- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Taylor, put it on the poll please.
- 0:21Speaker 1: At Stugatz 790 on X, is it odd to say
- 0:24Speaker 1: it's opening day in the NBA?
- 0:27Speaker 3: It really is.
- 0:30Speaker 1: That was the update from Dan Beyer. It is odd
- 0:33Speaker 1: to have a game in the NBA season kicking off
- 0:36Speaker 1: as we start our radio show. I don't think I've
- 0:39Speaker 1: ever done a show in which they were playing an
- 0:41Speaker 1: NBA game.
- 0:44Speaker 4: It's a good point, yeah, because the playoffs, it's evenings, right,
- 0:46Speaker 4: in the middle of the week. You don't do shows
- 0:49Speaker 4: on Sundays.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean, there are day games, right, Saturdays and Sundays
- 0:53Speaker 1: for the playoffs, and I guess for the regular season
- 0:55Speaker 1: as well. Israel Gutierrez is with us in studio. He's
- 0:59Speaker 1: an NBA expert, dare I say, an NBA Hall of Famer.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Definitely not at the moment. But it's a special day.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's opening day. It's a special day for you. If
- 1:11Speaker 1: you have questions about the NBA, about your favorite basketball team,
- 1:17Speaker 1: 877-99 on Fox, I give you an NBA borderline Hall
- 1:22Speaker 1: of Famer. for the next 90 minutes or so before
- 1:24Speaker 1: Tom Habistro joins us to talk NBA.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Ask any NBA questions you have.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Again, 877-99 on Fox.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I'm wondering....
- 1:34Speaker 1: Who's more emotional today, you because the season's starting or
- 1:37Speaker 1: Taylor because the Knicks are raising a banner tonight at
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Mecca?
- 1:41Speaker 4: It's got to be Taylor because, I mean, while the
- 1:43Speaker 4: season is starting today, it's only three games. And unless
- 1:46Speaker 4: you're just like, I mean, these are three really good games.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Great games.
- 1:50Speaker 4: You know, I'm probably a bigger Pistons fan than any
- 1:52Speaker 4: of you guys. So this first game is interesting to me.
- 1:54Speaker 4: But it's got to be Taylor like this is. This
- 1:57Speaker 4: very well could be a once-in-a-lifetime situation for him.
- 2:01Speaker 5: I don't like how you just said once-in-a-lifetime. I said
- 2:04Speaker 5: could be. Because I'm thinking we're going back-to-back this year. Now,
- 2:08Speaker 5: people are saying, oh, what about Carl Anthony Towns' contract
- 2:11Speaker 5: extension and Josh Hart's contract extension? I think the Knicks
- 2:14Speaker 5: are going to put all their differences aside this season, say,
- 2:17Speaker 5: we are in our title window right now. Let's run
- 2:19Speaker 5: it back. But, yes, this is an emotional day for me.
- 2:21Speaker 5: This Celtics-Pistons game might as well not even be happening
- 2:26Speaker 5: today for me. I've got the Liverpool Champions League game
- 2:28Speaker 5: on instead. That's on my radar before Brian Scalabrini talking
- 2:33Speaker 5: behind this Celtics bench ever would come.
- 2:35Speaker 3: On my TV screen.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Is that why you're wearing the long sleeve soccer jersey?
- 2:39Speaker 4: I'm not going to lie. It's a really good look.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Yeah. This is last year's Liverpool kit. Kit, not jersey.
- 2:45Speaker 4: No, I know, but you're just wearing the shirt, right?
- 2:46Speaker 4: You're the jersey. You're not wearing the full kit.
- 2:48Speaker 5: So I think they just call the entire, like if
- 2:51Speaker 5: you're wearing the jersey, I think they just call the
- 2:53Speaker 5: jersey the kit.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Okay. They do. Confirmed.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yes.
- 2:57Speaker 4: My concern with the Knicks, Taylor, and this is something
- 2:59Speaker 4: you can't really predict other than maybe having some sort
- 3:03Speaker 4: of history or track record of this, but their main
- 3:07Speaker 4: four guys have played a lot of games the last
- 3:10Speaker 4: three years.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yes. A lot of games.
- 3:13Speaker 4: And again, not that you can predict injury, but when
- 3:15Speaker 4: you combine the fact that both Josh Hart and Carl
- 3:18Speaker 4: Anthony Towns are basically potentially going into lame duck seasons
- 3:24Speaker 4: and going to be free agents next year, maybe aren't
- 3:26Speaker 4: really thrilled with the organization. If they have even the
- 3:30Speaker 4: slightest of injury, they're probably not going to play through it.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Not for the organization that won't give them the extensions
- 3:36Speaker 4: that they want and keep a good thing going. And
- 3:38Speaker 4: so you might have some guys missing a decent amount
- 3:42Speaker 4: of games. Now, that could be BS. It could just
- 3:45Speaker 4: be all in good health. And then sort of that
- 3:48Speaker 4: chemistry and that championship dynamic that they have will continue
- 3:52Speaker 4: throughout the regular season. And obviously, Jalen Brunson can carry
- 3:55Speaker 4: the team to a win in any fourth quarter. But
- 3:57Speaker 4: I just have a feeling that some of those guys
- 4:00Speaker 4: won't be as available as they have been. And that's
- 4:02Speaker 4: just going to mess with your chemistry. And if it's
- 4:05Speaker 4: Jalen Brunson who somehow gets, you know, some sort of
- 4:07Speaker 4: injury that leaves him out for an extended period of time,
- 4:10Speaker 4: then you're looking at a team that might be in shambles.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 5: If you could just avoid the catastrophic injury. I think
- 4:14Speaker 5: when you win the title, Mike Brown has has earned
- 4:18Speaker 5: even more grace now to play some of the, these
- 4:21Speaker 5: other bench guys where, you know, the, the, the theory
- 4:24Speaker 5: of this Knicks team is if you get to the
- 4:27Speaker 5: playoffs right now, you should have a title contending team
- 4:30Speaker 5: because last season they proved it. You bring back nine
- 4:32Speaker 5: of the top 10 guys in the rotation. So if it,
- 4:35Speaker 5: if it takes, you know, pack home Dottie playing more
- 4:37Speaker 5: minutes in the regular season, In the preseason, have you
- 4:40Speaker 5: watched James Wiseman?
- 4:41Speaker 4: I've watched James Wiseman.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Oh, my God. He's excited about it.
- 4:44Speaker 7: That's the guy you're excited about? I thought Andre Drummond
- 4:47Speaker 7: would do it for you. So I do like the
- 4:49Speaker 7: idea of Andre Drummond. The problem with Andre Drummond, I
- 4:51Speaker 7: think Andre Drummond's the oldest guy on this Knicks team
- 4:54Speaker 7: at 33. James Wiseman, we're like a couple of years
- 4:58Speaker 7: removed from him being a top five pick. James Wiseman's
- 5:01Speaker 7: only 25. I could talk myself into James Wiseman being
- 5:05Speaker 7: 10 times the player Mitchell Robinson was last season.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Very easily.
- 5:09Speaker 1: This is a guy coming off a championship season, man.
- 5:11Speaker 1: He is talking about James Wiseman and thinking anyone's going
- 5:14Speaker 1: to be great in that system.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Congratulations, Taylor. You are one of many who have fallen
- 5:18Speaker 4: for the James Wiseman trick over the years. That's why
- 5:22Speaker 4: he was the number two pick in the draft is
- 5:24Speaker 4: because everybody sees them. And when, you know, when it's
- 5:27Speaker 4: a preseason game, when it's a workout, when it's a
- 5:29Speaker 4: college game, He's going to look pretty great. But I
- 5:32Speaker 4: said top four guys. I meant top five guys, all
- 5:34Speaker 4: five of those guys, especially, man, Mikael Bridges has to
- 5:38Speaker 4: have some sort of injury at some point, right? Like
- 5:41Speaker 4: that guy plays every single game. The last four seasons,
- 5:45Speaker 4: he's played 82 games, no playoffs, 100 games, 101 games,
- 5:47Speaker 4: and 94 games. That's a lot of games.
- 5:51Speaker 1: There's also the possibility that none of them get hurt.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I mean, I understand what it is you're saying. It
- 5:56Speaker 1: seems like you're wishing injury upon our Knicks.
- 5:58Speaker 4: No, it's just that seems to happen, like wear and tear,
- 6:01Speaker 4: especially in the NBA for the teams that go deep
- 6:04Speaker 4: into the playoffs consistently. It's just more of a compliment
- 6:06Speaker 4: to the Knicks, really, because they have been in there,
- 6:09Speaker 4: as Taylor said, a championship window. And sometimes the window
- 6:13Speaker 4: slams right on your knee. And then you just never
- 6:17Speaker 4: know what's going to happen. That would hurt.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Maybe a bad omen for the night. Liverpool just conceded
- 6:20Speaker 5: a goal.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Should have gone short sleeves.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I like what Taylor's doing here. This year doesn't really matter.
- 6:27Speaker 1: They won the title last year. Even if they have
- 6:29Speaker 1: a bad regular season, stumble into the playoffs. Perhaps they
- 6:33Speaker 1: win it.
- 6:33Speaker 3: They make a run. They get healthy at the right time.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But this year is all about developing James Wiseman, about
- 6:38Speaker 1: the young guys.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Tyler Kolek, Mo Diawara.
- 6:43Speaker 4: What does Tyler Kolek have to do so that people
- 6:46Speaker 4: know he's on the team as opposed to the way
- 6:49Speaker 4: the police responded during the championship parade?
- 6:51Speaker 5: Well, Tyler Kolek has the unfortunate. look of he kind
- 6:55Speaker 5: of just looks like timothy chalamet like if you told
- 6:57Speaker 5: me this guy's an a-list actor i would believe it
- 7:01Speaker 5: more than i would believe you saying this guy's on
- 7:02Speaker 5: the knicks.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Uh izzy we are coming off we'll get back to
- 7:06Speaker 1: the nba here uh we are coming off perhaps the
- 7:09Speaker 1: greatest college football saturday of all time and a pretty
- 7:13Speaker 1: decent sunday of football as well we discussed a lot
- 7:16Speaker 1: of it yesterday Do you have any thoughts from the
- 7:18Speaker 1: football weekend here?
- 7:20Speaker 4: I was locked in on this Saturday like that was
- 7:23Speaker 4: a phenomenal. I couldn't decide whether I wanted the Hurricanes
- 7:28Speaker 4: to win and pull that out and really sort of
- 7:31Speaker 4: extend this, this, you know, whatever you want to call it,
- 7:35Speaker 4: this championship chase, because, you know, they've been on the
- 7:38Speaker 4: verge of being back for so long. They obviously lost
- 7:41Speaker 4: in the championship game. Last year, I thought it would
- 7:44Speaker 4: have been kind of a real stinker for them to
- 7:46Speaker 4: lose that game and then just be back in that
- 7:48Speaker 4: same place where I was, oh, we'll prove it to
- 7:50Speaker 4: you guys. We can recover from this. But I'm sure
- 7:54Speaker 4: you guys talked a ton about this. But that ending
- 7:57Speaker 4: drove me absolutely insane.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Same, yes.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Like, absolutely insane. The craziest part to me. is when
- 8:03Speaker 4: you're listening to the ACC, I think it was ACC, right?
- 8:06Speaker 4: Replay officials. And one of the guys in there adamantly says,
- 8:12Speaker 4: I see right there the defensive player has control. And
- 8:16Speaker 4: it's just like, where? What kind of eyes do you
- 8:19Speaker 4: have that you see the defensive player having control of
- 8:23Speaker 4: that football? And that was after the fact that they...
- 8:26Speaker 4: I mean, it was one of the worst holding calls
- 8:28Speaker 4: in a key spot that I have ever seen.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Terrible.
- 8:30Speaker 4: And they had back-to-back what looked like potential catches, Hail
- 8:34Speaker 4: Mary completions in the end zone, in which they still
- 8:37Speaker 4: needed to convert a two-point conversion. So it's not like
- 8:40Speaker 4: you're going to go into a third overtime then. Like,
- 8:43Speaker 4: to me, all that stuff made it maddening, but it
- 8:46Speaker 4: also felt like it was what, for the course of
- 8:50Speaker 4: the college football season, the correct result was.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Gino Toretto was on with us yesterday, won a Heisman Trophy,
- 8:56Speaker 1: won two national championships at UM. He's a UM legend,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and he thought Florida State got robbed. The idea that
- 9:02Speaker 1: the refs get together, they're going up to New York,
- 9:07Speaker 1: they're discussing it, and there's never even a mention. that
- 9:10Speaker 1: the Florida State kid may have had control of the ball,
- 9:13Speaker 1: to me is mesmerizing.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It really is. What are we doing?
- 9:17Speaker 5: Izzy, I almost don't even like that now we have
- 9:19Speaker 5: the transparency of hearing what they're saying in the replay center.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I don't want to know.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Yes, right. Because the replay center, it sounds like once
- 9:26Speaker 5: they go to it, they're just confirming what they want
- 9:29Speaker 5: to hear. respect to the sec because i love how
- 9:33Speaker 5: everybody is like we're gonna let people listen in to
- 9:35Speaker 5: our replay center and the sec was like absolutely not
- 9:38Speaker 5: no you're not gonna hear yes how we're fixing these
- 9:40Speaker 5: games i don't want to know.
- 9:41Speaker 1: How the hot dogs are made man just give me
- 9:43Speaker 1: a hot dog with mustard and a little kraut how.
- 9:46Speaker 8: About that uh transparency sure not too much transparency i
- 9:50Speaker 8: don't and yeah that it's it sounds like a mess
- 9:53Speaker 8: by the way it sounds like it's chaotic it sounds
- 9:55Speaker 8: like a household with seven children or everybody's trying to
- 9:58Speaker 8: chime in at one time and i'm just like, who is,
- 10:01Speaker 8: who is.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Saying anything to not a single soul in there saying
- 10:04Speaker 4: anything to the contrary.
- 10:05Speaker 3: It's like, Oh yes, sir. I agree with you.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Yep.
- 10:06Speaker 6: Yep.
- 10:06Speaker 3: There's it.
- 10:07Speaker 4: And it's just, it's re it was really annoying to watch.
- 10:09Speaker 4: So I think that caught watch.
- 10:11Speaker 1: So I think that conversation, um, I think the conversation
- 10:14Speaker 1: is based, what they're saying there is based off the
- 10:16Speaker 1: call on the field, right?
- 10:18Speaker 3: Um, But that's ridiculous.
- 10:20Speaker 1: If we're going to go to replay and we want
- 10:22Speaker 1: to get it right, why not talk about the entire
- 10:25Speaker 1: scope of the play and every single possibility that could
- 10:29Speaker 1: have happened at the end.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Of that play?
- 10:31Speaker 4: Even the call on the play, Stu, did you see
- 10:34Speaker 4: how long it took for the ref to make the call?
- 10:37Speaker 4: He's looking, he's kind of peeking in under the bunch
- 10:40Speaker 4: of people and it's just like, what are you looking
- 10:42Speaker 4: for exactly? Because Possession could have changed five times underneath
- 10:46Speaker 4: that huddle, that pile of people, and you're just waiting until, what,
- 10:50Speaker 4: after the play to figure out who has the football?
- 10:52Speaker 4: You've got to make the call once you see the
- 10:55Speaker 4: ball come down.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yes, at times it seems like they're guessing.
- 10:57Speaker 1: They know they have to make a call so they
- 10:59Speaker 1: can establish the call, then go to the replay booth,
- 11:02Speaker 1: who's only going to discuss the call that they made
- 11:04Speaker 1: on the field, which is vastly important when you make
- 11:07Speaker 1: the wrong call.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Because you're not discussing other options. It's a mess.
- 11:11Speaker 5: If we get to a situation where it's clear that
- 11:13Speaker 5: we don't have a clear definitive side either way, what
- 11:17Speaker 5: I am proposing, if I was college football's commissioner, one
- 11:21Speaker 5: of my favorite shows growing up was Who Wants to
- 11:23Speaker 5: Be a Millionaire? We asked the audience. And then the
- 11:26Speaker 5: audience gets to decide.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:28Speaker 5: It's a touchdown. It's not a touchdown. A lot of
- 11:30Speaker 5: people in that situation would just factor in that. Completing
- 11:34Speaker 5: two Hail Marys is kind of cool for Florida State.
- 11:37Speaker 5: We want this game to continue. It's almost like that
- 11:39Speaker 5: Buffalo Wild Wings commercial where you could extend the game.
- 11:42Speaker 5: But we put out, because the replays already take like
- 11:44Speaker 5: three minutes. What if there was a QR code that
- 11:47Speaker 5: you scan on your screen and then it pops up?
- 11:49Speaker 5: catch not a catch.
- 11:50Speaker 1: That wouldn't take long i mean it would take the
- 11:53Speaker 1: same amount of time i guess you're right.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Yes the tv executives would love that because hey you
- 11:58Speaker 4: want your team to win you better be locked in
- 12:00Speaker 4: because at any given point wow i could go yeah
- 12:03Speaker 4: i mean imagine like who's what who's watching the game
- 12:06Speaker 4: more uh florida state fans or um fans in that
- 12:09Speaker 4: situation you'll get that answer.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Um don't we need to like i understand what you're
- 12:13Speaker 1: saying i like the idea it's a good idea ask
- 12:15Speaker 1: the audience But we can't just ask the entire audience, right?
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's got to be like a specialized 25, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: a group of 25 fans, 12 Florida State, 12 Miami,
- 12:27Speaker 1: one Rogue.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Something like that. This is all willy-nilly. I don't like that.
- 12:32Speaker 5: One of my other favorite shows growing up, American Idol.
- 12:36Speaker 5: We had a situation like this, I believe, in season
- 12:38Speaker 5: six where the voting got taken over, where they were
- 12:43Speaker 5: just voting for the worst and people were like, how
- 12:45Speaker 5: is Sanjaya going through all these rounds? He's very clearly
- 12:48Speaker 5: the worst one. And it was like, no, America just
- 12:50Speaker 5: took over. So in these situations, I think you just
- 12:53Speaker 5: have to live with the rogue. possibility of if app
- 12:57Speaker 5: state gets a couple calls their way against alabama the
- 13:00Speaker 5: country might just want to vote for app state just
- 13:01Speaker 5: because they're going up against alabama they will though sorry
- 13:04Speaker 5: caitlin deborah.
- 13:05Speaker 4: The other part about the weekend specifically on saturday that
- 13:09Speaker 4: uh still lingers with me is okay we're done with
- 13:12Speaker 4: uh this arch manning being the number one overall pick
- 13:14Speaker 4: and being the dolphins uh franchise.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Quarterback we're debating whether or not he gets chosen in
- 13:18Speaker 1: the first round right we're transfers i i i.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Have fallen in love stew I haven't watched this many
- 13:25Speaker 4: highlight videos of a college football player since maybe Percy Harvin.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Drew Mestemaker.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Wow.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Oh, my God. Yeah. He is the guy.
- 13:35Speaker 9: Yes.
- 13:36Speaker 4: He is the guy that everybody needs to keep losing for.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Thank you, Titans defense and special teams, for winning that
- 13:41Speaker 4: game against the Colts, even though I had a little
- 13:43Speaker 4: bit of money on the Colts in that one. Thank
- 13:45Speaker 4: you for helping. And who else? Somebody else doesn't have
- 13:48Speaker 4: a win other than the Dolphins, but... If the Dolphins
- 13:51Speaker 4: end up with the number one pick, Drew Mestemaker feels
- 13:54Speaker 4: like the quarterback I have been waiting my entire adult
- 13:58Speaker 4: life for to replace Dan Marino.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Izzy, I hate to pour cold water on you right here,
- 14:03Speaker 5: but he's about to.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Yes.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Last season, I said Fernando Mendoza was my was my
- 14:08Speaker 5: quarterback to watch when he transferred to Indiana and then
- 14:11Speaker 5: halfway through the season. Like the Captain Phillips, you kind
- 14:14Speaker 5: of got on my boat and took it over.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I'm the captain now?
- 14:17Speaker 5: Yeah. Izzy, I'm the captain now-ed me with his Fernando
- 14:20Speaker 5: Mendoza love. And then before this season, Izzy, Stu Gott said,
- 14:24Speaker 5: try to guess it again. Who's going to be the
- 14:26Speaker 5: breakout star? And I said Mestemaker.
- 14:29Speaker 4: You could pour cold water on me all day. As
- 14:32Speaker 4: long as the Dolphins get to draft him number one.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I don't care who's called it first.
- 14:36Speaker 5: The problem was I said Mestemaker, and I said this
- 14:39Speaker 5: Oklahoma State team could surprise a lot of people. And
- 14:41Speaker 5: then they lost to Tulsa, and I sold all my stocks.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Oh, no. You got to get those back.
- 14:47Speaker 5: I don't have any shares right now of Messmaker, unfortunately.
- 14:50Speaker 1: That other winless team you were fishing for before.
- 14:53Speaker 3: The Chargers.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Ah, yes. They got to win something.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Do they?
- 14:58Speaker 4: They have?
- 14:59Speaker 3: I mean, they might win Mastomaker.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 15:01Speaker 10: No, no, no, no, no.
- 15:02Speaker 4: I got you, Mark. Please, no.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Jeremiah Smith and Justin Herbert. At that point, even I
- 15:07Speaker 5: can't make excuses for Justin Herbert.
- 15:09Speaker 3: How do you know Jeremiah Smith wants to go to
- 15:11Speaker 3: Justin Herbert?
- 15:12Speaker 4: He might pull an Eli.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 15:18Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific
- 15:23Speaker 2: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Listen, I told.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Israel Gutierrez, okay, borderline NBA Hall of Famer, loves the NBA.
- 15:34Speaker 1: It's a big day for him. I said, hey, come
- 15:36Speaker 1: in today. It's opening day. And I said, the phone
- 15:41Speaker 1: lines are.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Going to be lit.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And here we are, 26 minutes into the show, and
- 15:47Speaker 1: we don't have a single call in the NBA. And
- 15:50Speaker 1: so I am outraged. I am talking to you, the audience.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I told Izzy, and he came in here to do this.
- 15:55Speaker 1: He trusted me. that he would have a full board
- 15:58Speaker 1: of calls about the NBA, and we have none. So
- 16:01Speaker 1: your penalty, until you call in at 877-99 on Fox,
- 16:05Speaker 1: your penalty is us talking baseball.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Oh, man, my baseball tics are kind of on fire, too.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Give them to us.
- 16:13Speaker 4: All right, here, it's a uniform thing. If Tampa is
- 16:20Speaker 4: going to wear the Devil Rage throwbacks... then they can't
- 16:23Speaker 4: get mad when people call them the Devil Rays.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Like, I've gotten yelled at. Not really yelled at, but
- 16:29Speaker 4: I've gotten scolded a couple of times. And, pal, they're
- 16:32Speaker 4: not the Devil Rays anymore. They're the Rays. Then you
- 16:34Speaker 4: can't wear these anymore. You can't wear the old Devil
- 16:37Speaker 4: Rays uniforms.
- 16:38Speaker 3: You're right. Yes, I agree with that.
- 16:40Speaker 1: If you're going to wear the Tampa Bay Devil Ray
- 16:42Speaker 1: uniforms or really any retro uniforms, they haven't worn them
- 16:45Speaker 1: all season, though, have they?
- 16:46Speaker 4: I'm sure you're asking the wrong person. Taylor, did they
- 16:50Speaker 4: wear them against the Yankees at all?
- 16:53Speaker 5: That's a great question. I don't really think about the
- 16:57Speaker 5: Rays uniforms. I don't really love these uniforms.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I don't like them either.
- 17:01Speaker 1: No, but when they wear those uniforms, it makes you
- 17:04Speaker 1: think Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yes.
- 17:06Speaker 3: And so if you call them that, I'm good with it.
- 17:08Speaker 4: All right.
- 17:08Speaker 5: I liked when they had the green uniforms the best
- 17:11Speaker 5: and like the sleeves.
- 17:12Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 4: I do remember those.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Those look nice.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Although I just don't know a whole lot about Tampa.
- 17:16Speaker 5: It makes me think of like Johnny Gomes and like
- 17:18Speaker 5: Scott Casimir.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I'm not certain there's anyone on the planet who dislikes
- 17:23Speaker 1: Tampa more than Israel Gutierrez.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Sorry, Tampa. That Tampa doesn't know that we have. My
- 17:29Speaker 4: other take was about this Junior Caminero spin around the bases,
- 17:33Speaker 4: his little stroll around the bases that included a shout-out.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Were they ever teammates, him and Randy? They were, right?
- 17:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Okay. Including that shout-out to him before he touched home plate. That,
- 17:43Speaker 4: to me, was not even the most annoyingly long celebration
- 17:48Speaker 4: of the last 48 hours.
- 17:48Speaker 9: Really?
- 17:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Did you watch Houston Jacksonville in London Sunday morning?
- 17:55Speaker 3: I watched parts of it. Yes, I did. Like maybe
- 17:58Speaker 3: the second half towards the end.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Of the game.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So if you were watching when Travis Hunter scored his touchdown.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Good Lord.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Did he put on an entire song and dance that
- 18:08Speaker 4: probably lasted for the probably the length of Junior Caminero's
- 18:13Speaker 4: trip around the bases to the point where and I
- 18:15Speaker 4: don't know, maybe they expected this because, you know, like
- 18:20Speaker 4: I'm guessing NFL players practice their celebrations. There was a
- 18:23Speaker 4: tight end. I think it was number 85. I don't
- 18:25Speaker 4: know who's on the Jaguars. He came in to celebrate,
- 18:28Speaker 4: noticed that Travis was probably not even halfway through his celebration.
- 18:32Speaker 4: And then it was like, yeah, I'm good. He turned
- 18:34Speaker 4: around and started going back to the bench. The rest
- 18:36Speaker 4: of the offensive line was just sitting there behind him. Like,
- 18:38Speaker 4: come on, man. Can we get this over with? And
- 18:41Speaker 4: just when you think it's done, he's.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Got a little bit more. That's exactly the point. The
- 18:45Speaker 5: second it felt like the dance was going to end,
- 18:48Speaker 5: he started doing a different dance. None of the dances
- 18:52Speaker 5: really flowed into each other. So it felt like, okay,
- 18:55Speaker 5: this routine's over.
- 18:56Speaker 11: Right.
- 18:56Speaker 5: Time to go into the next dance.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Was it Brandon Strange? That guy?
- 19:00Speaker 4: Is he number 85?
- 19:01Speaker 5: Yes.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Probably.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Probably him. Now he had a smile on his face.
- 19:04Speaker 4: He didn't like roll his eyes and say whatever, but
- 19:07Speaker 4: it was just, he knew this was going to take
- 19:09Speaker 4: a while and credit to Travis Hunter because like, and
- 19:12Speaker 4: I've done choreographed performances before, and to just have all
- 19:17Speaker 4: of that ready right off the rip and just go
- 19:20Speaker 4: through the entirety of it immediately on national television, camera
- 19:25Speaker 4: in your face, credit to that guy, but that was
- 19:27Speaker 4: way too long.
- 19:28Speaker 3: 15 yards.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Give me a penalty.
- 19:30Speaker 5: Izzy, this stat comes from Sarah Langs. Junior Caminero took
- 19:34Speaker 5: 38.66 seconds to round the bases. It's the second slowest
- 19:39Speaker 5: time in the stat cast era ever. on an undisputed
- 19:42Speaker 5: home run.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Who was first, do they say?
- 19:44Speaker 5: That's a good question.
- 19:45Speaker 3: The slowest?
- 19:45Speaker 5: No, they don't have the first.
- 19:46Speaker 4: I can't believe they keep that stat. Stat cast.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:50Speaker 4: A crazy stat to keep.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I wish it was longer. Oh, yeah.
- 19:55Speaker 5: If I hit that, like, I'm doing the same exact thing.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Were people outraged by it, though? Like, hey, just get
- 20:00Speaker 1: to home plate, step on it, and get in the dugout?
- 20:02Speaker 5: So I have the answer for what the slowest is.
- 20:04Speaker 11: Yes.
- 20:04Speaker 4: What is it?
- 20:05Speaker 5: It was Junior Cameron Arrow.
- 20:06Speaker 10: Oh, no.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Oh, really? Really? 40.65 seconds, September 15th.
- 20:12Speaker 5: In a regular season game against the A's, it was
- 20:15Speaker 5: a walk-off home run.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Against the A's.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Okay, a walk-off. Walk-off, you can take your time, right?
- 20:19Speaker 3: The game's over.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, yes. That was strange. There was two innings left,
- 20:23Speaker 4: and this guy's parading around the bases like he's already
- 20:25Speaker 4: in the World Series.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's exactly what I would do in that
- 20:27Speaker 5: situation where I'm watching Yandy Diaz's home run where he
- 20:30Speaker 5: hits the insurance runs in the ninth inning or the
- 20:34Speaker 5: eighth inning.
- 20:34Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 20:35Speaker 5: My favorite part about that was they asked Cade Smith,
- 20:38Speaker 5: who was the pitcher who gave up the home run
- 20:39Speaker 5: to Junior Caminero, like, what did you think about him showboating?
- 20:43Speaker 5: He said, it's not my style, but I guess if
- 20:45Speaker 5: I don't like it, I shouldn't be giving up the
- 20:47Speaker 5: home runs. That's the only answer you could give in
- 20:49Speaker 5: that situation.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So I think we have stumbled upon a way to
- 20:52Speaker 1: get phone calls on this show. It's by talking baseball.
- 21:00Speaker 1: 877-99 on Fox. That is 877-99 on Fox. Let's go
- 21:04Speaker 1: to Derek, who's in Vermont today.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Derek, go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 21:08Speaker 11: Hey, guys.
- 21:09Speaker 10: I couldn't listen to baseball anymore, so.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I don't blame you.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:15Speaker 10: My question for Izzy is who he thinks is going
- 21:18Speaker 10: to be a dark horse this year in the NBA.
- 21:21Speaker 10: I think Toronto's got a good chance to make a
- 21:22Speaker 10: run in the East, but I just wanted to hear
- 21:25Speaker 10: what you had to say. I'll hang up and listen.
- 21:27Speaker 11: Thanks.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Thank you, Derek.
- 21:28Speaker 4: You know, it's interesting with Toronto, and I don't know
- 21:31Speaker 4: if I would even call them a dark horse because
- 21:33Speaker 4: I think people think at their ceiling they're going to
- 21:37Speaker 4: be contenders, right? It's just a matter of whether— Kawhi
- 21:41Speaker 4: is going to play enough games, create any sort of chemistry.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Do he and Scottie Barnes vibe well together? You know,
- 21:47Speaker 4: what is Scottie like deep into the playoffs and a run?
- 21:50Speaker 4: Is he that reliable? I think they are, you know,
- 21:53Speaker 4: amongst the darker horses. Yeah, weird sentence.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It is.
- 21:56Speaker 3: They were the five seed in the East last year, right?
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, they were there. And they, you know, the
- 22:01Speaker 4: other team, I believe they played Cleveland in the first round, right?
- 22:03Speaker 4: Because that is the other team. Now, it's hard to
- 22:06Speaker 4: call Cleveland a dark horse, right? A couple years ago,
- 22:09Speaker 4: I think they were a 60-win team. Last year, they
- 22:11Speaker 4: dropped off a little bit, but still, you know, got
- 22:13Speaker 4: deep into the playoffs. I think Cleveland got better. I
- 22:17Speaker 4: think so. My answer to you is a couple of
- 22:19Speaker 4: teams that maybe people expect to drop off, maybe like
- 22:23Speaker 4: a Cleveland, maybe like a Detroit. I think both of
- 22:26Speaker 4: those teams are going to be actually better than a
- 22:29Speaker 4: lot of people expected. Like, I would not be shocked.
- 22:31Speaker 4: And I know a lot of people would be, but
- 22:33Speaker 4: I would not be shocked if that's one, two in
- 22:35Speaker 4: the Eastern Conference, Cleveland and Detroit.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Wow.
- 22:37Speaker 4: You've got Cleveland with the continuity that they have, and
- 22:40Speaker 4: they add Peyton Watson, and I think he is just
- 22:42Speaker 4: a perfect fit for what they need at that small
- 22:45Speaker 4: forward spot, going to be better than Dean Wade was
- 22:48Speaker 4: for them, going to create a lot of fast-break opportunities,
- 22:51Speaker 4: going to really— as long as James Harden allows them to
- 22:55Speaker 4: be a fast-break team and allows them to be a
- 22:57Speaker 4: good defensive team— That's a big if, yes. Yeah, it's
- 23:00Speaker 4: a huge if. He's got to be able to know
- 23:01Speaker 4: when to stop calling his own number.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Then I think Cleveland's going to be really, really good.
- 23:06Speaker 4: And then I just think the Detroit Pistons, since they
- 23:08Speaker 4: happen to be on right now, I think even though
- 23:10Speaker 4: they've lost some people, right? Tobias Harris was a good
- 23:13Speaker 4: sort of steadying guy in the half court for them some.
- 23:16Speaker 4: I think they might be better than they were last year. Look,
- 23:20Speaker 4: I know everybody knows I'm a bit of an Assart-Thompson
- 23:23Speaker 4: twins homer. Right.
- 23:25Speaker 3: No one's ever loved them more.
- 23:27Speaker 4: But, I mean, with good reason. I mean, they're very,
- 23:29Speaker 4: very good. But I do think that he is going
- 23:32Speaker 4: to have a big leap in terms of offensive production
- 23:36Speaker 4: this season. If there's anything I learned from hanging out
- 23:38Speaker 4: with him a lot for the couple years before they
- 23:40Speaker 4: got drafted is that Assart doesn't– concede anything to his brother.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Everybody else thinks, oh, a man's going to be clearly
- 23:48Speaker 4: the better player. I don't think he's just saying that
- 23:50Speaker 4: that's going to be true. I think Asar, with more
- 23:54Speaker 4: responsibility offensively, will show that he is the better offensive
- 24:00Speaker 4: player of the two because growing up and all the
- 24:03Speaker 4: way up until they were drafted, Asar, from basically the
- 24:06Speaker 4: foul line down, was the better offensive player and from
- 24:10Speaker 4: the three-point area was the better shooter. And so the
- 24:13Speaker 4: issue with him the first three seasons was he had
- 24:17Speaker 4: no consistency of when he was getting the ball, when
- 24:20Speaker 4: he was able to sort of create a look for
- 24:22Speaker 4: himself or for his teammates. And so he always looked rushed.
- 24:26Speaker 4: He always looked a little nervous, and he always didn't
- 24:28Speaker 4: really have a go-to, whether it be move, area on
- 24:32Speaker 4: the floor to go to. And so it looked super erratic,
- 24:34Speaker 4: and so you're not going to keep going to him. Now,
- 24:36Speaker 4: not only has he gotten better, has he worked hard
- 24:38Speaker 4: on the offseason, But he will be given those responsibilities
- 24:42Speaker 4: because they paid him. They gave him a big contract extension.
- 24:45Speaker 4: And so I think Detroit and Cleveland, if I'm going
- 24:48Speaker 4: to pick a couple of quote unquote surprises, those are
- 24:51Speaker 4: probably my two.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Izzy, I have a question. The first quarter in this
- 24:54Speaker 5: Celtics game just ended. I'll steal the shine from Dan Beyer.
- 24:58Speaker 5: It's 28-27 Boston Celtics. Jason Tatum with seven points. I'm
- 25:02Speaker 5: more confused about this Boston Celtics team after watching the
- 25:05Speaker 5: first quarter because I'm looking at the box score. Hugo
- 25:08Speaker 5: Gonzalez didn't play in the first quarter.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Is that the case, huh?
- 25:11Speaker 5: This is the guy that they wouldn't trade for Jalen Brown,
- 25:13Speaker 5: and he can't even get off the bench before Sam
- 25:16Speaker 5: Houser and Jordan Walsh is in their starting lineup.
- 25:18Speaker 3: If you're going to keep him, you have to start him.
- 25:20Speaker 5: What is going on?
- 25:21Speaker 4: I'm not sure if there's an injury involved there or
- 25:23Speaker 4: if Missoula's trying to make a point because when I
- 25:26Speaker 4: watched him in the preseason, I thought he was very,
- 25:28Speaker 4: very good. But my issue with the Celtics is just
- 25:32Speaker 4: in the big picture. Like, I don't know what they
- 25:35Speaker 4: think that they lost in Jalen Brown, but he is
- 25:37Speaker 4: an all NBA player and you're not going to be
- 25:40Speaker 4: able to replace him with Paul George and a couple
- 25:43Speaker 4: of people hoping to make a leap, right? Paul George's
- 25:46Speaker 4: usage rate the last two seasons in Philly were the
- 25:48Speaker 4: lowest they've been since 2012-13, which was his breakthrough season
- 25:52Speaker 4: when he won the most improved player. But in that season,
- 25:55Speaker 4: he led the league in defensive win shares, meaning obviously
- 25:58Speaker 4: his impact was great on both sides of the floor. Now,
- 26:01Speaker 4: his defensive numbers are nowhere near that. Someone even, I mean,
- 26:05Speaker 4: unless he just happens to be feeling good that day,
- 26:07Speaker 4: might even be something of a defensive liability at this age.
- 26:11Speaker 4: And Last two seasons in Philly, he's played 41 games
- 26:14Speaker 4: and 37 games, respectively, and that included a 25-game suspension, Stu,
- 26:19Speaker 4: for PED use that he said was a mental health situation,
- 26:22Speaker 4: and it's just like, okay, you're going to go into
- 26:25Speaker 4: Boston now and try to recover and be what you
- 26:28Speaker 4: were four years ago after all of this? I just
- 26:32Speaker 4: don't see it, especially not to Jalen Brown's level on
- 26:35Speaker 4: both sides of the floor. So then you're absolutely relying
- 26:39Speaker 4: on on everybody else around you to just make shots, right?
- 26:43Speaker 4: Jalen Brown, I believe, led the league last season in
- 26:46Speaker 4: two-point attempts. This year, without him, Paul George isn't going
- 26:51Speaker 4: to recreate that. And so, it's going to be more
- 26:54Speaker 4: of a let-it-fly season, like live-and-die-by-the-three than ever for the Celtics. Now,
- 26:59Speaker 4: they do have a good situation in the middle. Their centers,
- 27:02Speaker 4: if they stay healthy, Keita and Robinson, are going to
- 27:05Speaker 4: give you very productive minutes, a lot of extra possessions,
- 27:08Speaker 4: but You got to hope Mitchell Robinson stays healthy and
- 27:10Speaker 4: you got to hope those guys are still shooting the
- 27:12Speaker 4: threes at a high clip. And I just don't see
- 27:15Speaker 4: that over 82 games where like how much can you
- 27:18Speaker 4: really expect from Jason Tatum as the clear and away
- 27:21Speaker 4: number one guy? And he hasn't had to be that
- 27:23Speaker 4: basically his entire time next to Jalen Brown.
- 27:26Speaker 1: How about this you go situation, though? I mean, seriously,
- 27:29Speaker 1: how about you go in the game already? Let's go
- 27:34Speaker 1: out to Austin, who's in Phoenix today.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Austin, go ahead.
- 27:37Speaker 3: You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 27:39Speaker 2: What's up, guys?
- 27:40Speaker 4: Love the show.
- 27:40Speaker 10: I'm a Phoenix Dunn fan, so I just wanted to
- 27:43Speaker 10: get your guys' take on.
- 27:44Speaker 11: That and also what you guys think of the Devin
- 27:46Speaker 11: Booker situation, if he should stay at the point.
- 27:48Speaker 10: Or if he should go back to his old position.
- 27:50Speaker 6: Thanks, guys.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Oh, man. The Devin Booker situation is interesting because I
- 27:54Speaker 4: think what happened on that Olympic team was he just
- 27:57Speaker 4: sort of realized that, hey, I'm really good as the
- 28:01Speaker 4: guy who will just do whatever the team needs, right?
- 28:03Speaker 4: Like I can be, you know, Not the best way
- 28:07Speaker 4: to put this, but, you know, a great role player.
- 28:10Speaker 4: And I'm with you. I forget the caller's name already. Austin,
- 28:14Speaker 4: I'm with you, Austin. I believe I think he needs
- 28:17Speaker 4: to be that scorer first and foremost. I think he
- 28:20Speaker 4: needs to be the threat that other teams absolutely prepare
- 28:24Speaker 4: for and have to worry about every time down the floor.
- 28:27Speaker 4: and aim to be a 30-point-a-game guy. Now, I do
- 28:31Speaker 4: think they're going to be, you know, sneaky decent again,
- 28:34Speaker 4: especially in a Western conference. It's not as deep as
- 28:37Speaker 4: it always was. You know, Miles Bridges, Dylan Brooks, those guys.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Colin Gillespie, I think, has been sort of a revelation
- 28:44Speaker 4: over there. I think they're going to be a fun team,
- 28:47Speaker 4: but they need to sort of be centralized. They need
- 28:50Speaker 4: to be around Devin Booker, not just as the playmaker,
- 28:53Speaker 4: but as the scorer. And, I mean, I love that
- 28:56Speaker 4: dude's mid-range game. I love how high he gets on
- 28:58Speaker 4: his jumper, how difficult it is to defend him when
- 29:01Speaker 4: he's feeling it and just coming off one, two dribbles
- 29:04Speaker 4: and pulling up. And so, you know, they got Luke
- 29:05Speaker 4: Kennard over there now. So I think they could be
- 29:09Speaker 4: not quite a Celtics of the Western Conference, but I
- 29:11Speaker 4: think they can be a surprise team in the West.
- 29:14Speaker 5: Izzy has the nuance when it comes to the NBA.
- 29:16Speaker 5: My only thoughts with this Phoenix Suns team, Austin. I
- 29:19Speaker 5: don't like the fact that Devin Booker changed his number
- 29:21Speaker 5: from 1 to 15. That's going to take some time
- 29:24Speaker 5: to get used to. I know he's doing it to
- 29:27Speaker 5: honor his dad who played at Missouri and his dad
- 29:29Speaker 5: was number 15.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I would have no idea that he changed it, to
- 29:32Speaker 1: be honest with you.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Devin Booker makes $ 57 million a year. I think every
- 29:37Speaker 5: fan who has a Devin Booker number one jersey that
- 29:40Speaker 5: money should come out of Devin Booker's.
- 29:42Speaker 7: Paycheck to get a new jersey.
- 29:46Speaker 3: The old bait and switch. Let's go to James, who's
- 29:50Speaker 3: in Vegas today. James, go ahead. Before we break here,
- 29:53Speaker 3: go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Jimmy?
- 29:55Speaker 6: Yes.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Jimmy, go ahead.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Go ahead, Jimmy.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Yeah, go.
- 29:57Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, you were talking about the showboating Travis Hunter.
- 30:00Speaker 5: Yes.
- 30:00Speaker 10: So I don't know if you guys saw last week,
- 30:05Speaker 10: you saw the interception against T.
- 30:06Speaker 11: Higgins, and he broke his ankles after he got the interception.
- 30:10Speaker 9: Right.
- 30:11Speaker 6: Well, online, somebody made a meme of him doing that
- 30:15Speaker 6: dance in front of T.
- 30:16Speaker 11: Higgins, and it was the funniest meme of the week.
- 30:18Speaker 3: So he was just copying that meme.
- 30:20Speaker 6: Now, that meme is annoying and played out now, but
- 30:23Speaker 6: that dance was very topical, actually.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Okay. I did not know that. I did not know.
- 30:29Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, I'm guessing you're a little bit.
- 30:32Speaker 10: And does that dance in front of him.
- 30:34Speaker 4: All right.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Thank you, James. I'm guessing you're far younger than me,
- 30:36Speaker 4: and that's why you're so online and recognize that. But
- 30:41Speaker 4: everything that I said remains true. It was way too long,
- 30:44Speaker 4: and it was crazy impressive at the same time.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 30:50Speaker 2: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Hugo's in the game now, is he?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Hey.
- 30:59Speaker 6: Yep.
- 31:00Speaker 3: He listened to me. You go in the game already.
- 31:03Speaker 5: I think he started the second quarter.
- 31:04Speaker 3: There you go. Luke Garza is also in.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Well, when I looked, I saw Luke Garza on the screen,
- 31:13Speaker 4: and I was like, wait, that's not Hugo. But, you know,
- 31:16Speaker 4: could have fooled me.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Minus five to start his tenure here.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Sorry, Dan Beyer. It's 36-35. Pistons right now.
- 31:22Speaker 1: The Celtics, I can't do play-by-play.
- 31:25Speaker 3: They're trailing by four. 39-35 right now.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Uh 877 99 on fox that is 877 uh 99
- 31:32Speaker 1: on fox uh don't tempt me to go back to
- 31:35Speaker 1: baseball okay because i will uh to all the listeners
- 31:39Speaker 1: out there i'll talk baseball until you call in about
- 31:41Speaker 1: basketball how about.
- 31:42Speaker 5: That even worse i could talk liverpool they just equalize
- 31:44Speaker 5: this game two two.
- 31:45Speaker 1: The equalizer two two at half yeah uh taylor i'm
- 31:48Speaker 1: starting to come around on day basketball here i gotta
- 31:50Speaker 1: be honest with you i.
- 31:51Speaker 5: Like it nice to have something on in the background
- 31:53Speaker 5: especially when it's not like a Ricardo watching like a
- 31:57Speaker 5: Pirates-Reds game.
- 31:59Speaker 4: I am so glad the baseball season's almost over.
- 32:02Speaker 3: And baseball got the exact World Series they wanted.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Two best teams in the league.
- 32:07Speaker 5: Yeah, the two worst markets. No, I have such a
- 32:11Speaker 5: problem with this.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Collars, be ready.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Because every time we get a World Series like Brewers-Rays,
- 32:19Speaker 5: people like Stugatz immediately start talking about how bad the
- 32:23Speaker 5: ratings are going to be. cares how bad the ratings
- 32:26Speaker 5: are going to be like as he said these are
- 32:28Speaker 5: the two best teams in baseball excuse me for not
- 32:31Speaker 5: caring about television ratings like the advertising revenue is coming
- 32:35Speaker 5: out of my pocket i'm a baseball fan i'm not
- 32:38Speaker 5: a television network shareholder.
- 32:39Speaker 1: You're a baseball fan who doesn't know if the rays
- 32:41Speaker 1: were wearing those uniforms the entire year i mean and
- 32:44Speaker 1: i'll tell you who cares baseball Major League Baseball cares.
- 32:49Speaker 1: They would prefer to have the Yankees and the Mets
- 32:52Speaker 1: in the World Series or the Dodgers every single year.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's not going to be a good
- 32:56Speaker 1: World Series. I'm rooting for Milwaukee. I'd like to see
- 32:59Speaker 1: them get it done. Me, like Izzy, I don't like Tampa.
- 33:06Speaker 5: The consolation prize of getting two small markets, we got
- 33:09Speaker 5: the two best teams in baseball.
- 33:11Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 33:11Speaker 4: I don't think people necessarily even just watch for uniforms
- 33:16Speaker 4: anymore or for big markets. Like, you're not drawing the
- 33:19Speaker 4: Midwest just because the Dodgers are playing. It's because it
- 33:22Speaker 4: would have been Shohei Otani. It's because they have so
- 33:24Speaker 4: many stars on that team that you want to see
- 33:26Speaker 4: what they can do. I think the Brewers obviously have Mizorowski.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Mizorowski.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Say it with some confidence.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Say it with your chest.
- 33:32Speaker 5: You got it right.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Mizorowski.
- 33:34Speaker 4: NL Cy Young. And, I mean, I think he is
- 33:36Speaker 4: a phenomenal watch because it's just what?
- 33:38Speaker 6: What?
- 33:39Speaker 4: Because he's, you know, I don't understand how he gets
- 33:41Speaker 4: so much on that when he's such a thin frame.
- 33:43Speaker 4: That one's really weird for me. But he's great to watch.
- 33:45Speaker 4: I don't know who on the raise is really the draw, however, individually.
- 33:50Speaker 5: If you wanted somebody to get excited about on the raise,
- 33:52Speaker 5: it would be Freddy Peralta, who's had an incredible turnaround
- 33:57Speaker 5: where on the Mets, he had a 4-9 ERA. in
- 34:00Speaker 5: 22 starts before they traded him. And then on August 22nd,
- 34:04Speaker 5: he had the worst qualified ERA in all of baseball.
- 34:07Speaker 5: He goes to the Rays. They fix a couple of
- 34:09Speaker 5: his mechanics. Mechanics at the Mets say, hey, we were
- 34:11Speaker 5: aware of these. We tried to get him to fix it.
- 34:13Speaker 5: He wouldn't fix it when he was in New York.
- 34:15Speaker 5: And then he goes to the Rays, and he's 2-0
- 34:17Speaker 5: in the ALCS with a. 75 ERA. He wins MVP there.
- 34:22Speaker 5: And now it's a full circle moment for him because
- 34:24Speaker 5: he gets traded from the Brewers to the Mets and
- 34:26Speaker 5: then from the Mets to the Rays. and now he's
- 34:28Speaker 5: going back to Milwaukee to face his former team in
- 34:32Speaker 5: the World Series.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Eric in Phoenix is tired of us talking baseball. Eric
- 34:35Speaker 1: in Phoenix, go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 34:40Speaker 11: Hello, gentlemen.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Love your show.
- 34:41Speaker 11: Hey, I just wanted to know if you think LeBron
- 34:44Speaker 11: is going to hang it up after this year, or
- 34:45Speaker 11: do you think he's going to go for 25 in
- 34:48Speaker 11: that championship? I can love my Lakers again now because
- 34:51Speaker 11: he's gone, but I'm done with him. I just want
- 34:54Speaker 11: to know how you guys feel. Hey, enjoy it.
- 34:56Speaker 5: Have a good one. Yes.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I think he signed the two-year deal, right?
- 34:59Speaker 2: He did.
- 34:59Speaker 3: He did.
- 34:59Speaker 4: I think he will fulfill the contract largely because I
- 35:03Speaker 4: don't think they win a championship this year. I am
- 35:06Speaker 4: intrigued by if they somehow do pull it off and
- 35:09Speaker 4: win the championship this year, would he be the type
- 35:12Speaker 4: to go out on top? And it does feel like
- 35:15Speaker 4: a LeBron thing to do, right? But he also could be, hey,
- 35:19Speaker 4: what if I go out with two more championships? Because
- 35:22Speaker 4: I just don't think if he gets number, what is this?
- 35:24Speaker 4: This would be number five, right? You really think he's
- 35:26Speaker 4: going to miss out on a chance to hit six
- 35:28Speaker 4: and match Michael?
- 35:29Speaker 3: Ending on five is good, though. I mean, but think
- 35:31Speaker 3: about what... Ending on six is better.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Think about what a special kind of pain in the
- 35:35Speaker 1: ass LeBron James has to be. He won a championship
- 35:38Speaker 1: at LA.
- 35:38Speaker 3: And that guy.
- 35:39Speaker 5: They never accepted him.
- 35:42Speaker 3: And the guy's like, he's happy he's gone. He won
- 35:45Speaker 3: him a championship.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Not only.
- 35:47Speaker 4: I mean, it's just... I don't think they could have
- 35:49Speaker 4: picked a worse star to put beside him than Luka.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Because you take the ball out of Luka's hands, he
- 35:58Speaker 4: is a non-effective player. Like, he has to have the
- 36:01Speaker 4: ball in his hands. Once you do put the ball
- 36:02Speaker 4: in his hands, he's an MVP. And so it just really— now,
- 36:06Speaker 4: it obviously didn't limit LeBron. He still did a lot
- 36:08Speaker 4: of things. But in terms of, you know, long-term effectiveness, like,
- 36:11Speaker 4: it just wasn't the right fit for him anymore. And
- 36:14Speaker 4: nobody's going to turn down Luka Doncic in his prime.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Truka.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Is— Izzy, the way that Laker fans feel about LeBron
- 36:22Speaker 5: James is how LeBron James feels about the city of Philadelphia.
- 36:25Speaker 5: He wants nothing to do with the.
- 36:27Speaker 3: City of Philadelphia. He hates it. He just wants to
- 36:28Speaker 3: play 41 games there and get the hell out.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Slow down. Maybe 30. 30 home games.
- 36:35Speaker 3: I've gone too far.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But that's a good question. No, I
- 36:40Speaker 4: don't think LeBron hangs it up this year. I just think,
- 36:43Speaker 4: you know, unless something catastrophic happens health-wise... he's going to
- 36:48Speaker 4: feel like he's got another year under his belt. The
- 36:51Speaker 4: drop-off has been obvious because he was probably the best
- 36:55Speaker 4: player we've ever seen. But in terms of him being
- 36:58Speaker 4: able to contribute to a championship contender, especially one as
- 37:02Speaker 4: top-heavy as the Sixers are and assume they're going to
- 37:05Speaker 4: be for the next couple of years, I think that's
- 37:08Speaker 4: probably why he made the decision that he made because
- 37:11Speaker 4: he could maybe have missed 20 games and still be
- 37:14Speaker 4: on a team that's really, really good.
- 37:16Speaker 1: 877-99 on Fox. That is 877-99 on Fox. Tom Haberstroh
- 37:22Speaker 1: going to join us in about 20 minutes here. Get
- 37:26Speaker 1: you ready for the NBA season. Israel's here getting you
- 37:28Speaker 1: ready for the NBA season. And if you don't call,
- 37:31Speaker 1: we'll talk baseball. Let's go out to Kelly, who is
- 37:34Speaker 1: in the state of Washington today.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Kelly, go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio. What up, Steve?
- 37:41Speaker 4: Enjoy your show.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Thank you. How are you?
- 37:44Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 37:45Speaker 10: Well, you know, the sun is shining.
- 37:47Speaker 3: The fall colors are beautiful.
- 37:49Speaker 10: Other than that, my question for.
- 37:52Speaker 11: Is, is do you think for real that the Sonics
- 37:57Speaker 11: will ever come back to Seattle?
- 37:58Speaker 3: Because honestly, I.
- 37:59Speaker 10: Really don't pay attention to the NBA anymore because my
- 38:02Speaker 10: team got stolen.
- 38:03Speaker 4: So fair, fair question.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 38:06Speaker 4: Do I think they will be back?
- 38:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 4: It's interesting. I've been reading some stuff that makes it
- 38:12Speaker 4: seem a little questionable whether they'll be back or not.
- 38:15Speaker 4: I know the league likes the idea of having them back,
- 38:19Speaker 4: but they're obviously making sure that it's got to be
- 38:22Speaker 4: more than just nostalgia. There's got to be money there.
- 38:26Speaker 4: There's got to be an obvious.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Arena that they can fill up every single night. And so, yeah,
- 38:32Speaker 4: I mean, I love to live in a world where
- 38:34Speaker 4: they're definitely going to be back. But I think, you know,
- 38:36Speaker 4: the latest I've heard is that it's not a certainly
- 38:39Speaker 4: a sure thing. So, you know, that's not my favorite
- 38:43Speaker 4: discussion is the business of, you know, potential new franchises.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 38:47Speaker 4: But I mean, for the sake of the NBA, I
- 38:50Speaker 4: hope they are.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Guys, we have found ourselves in quite the pickle here.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Because we are threatening people to call in by threatening
- 38:59Speaker 1: that we'll talk baseball.
- 39:00Speaker 3: And we have a call on the board, and he
- 39:01Speaker 3: wants to talk about baseball.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 39:03Speaker 3: So what do we do? Let's do it. He's fighting
- 39:06Speaker 3: fire with fire.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Let's do it. I think this caller is helping us
- 39:09Speaker 4: draw in more callers.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Let's go to John, who's in Michigan. John, go ahead.
- 39:13Speaker 3: You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 39:15Speaker 6: Hey, Stuga.
- 39:16Speaker 10: How are you doing today?
- 39:17Speaker 3: Hey, what's up, man?
- 39:22Speaker 10: Does the Fox Sports Channel have brief counseling for their announcers?
- 39:27Speaker 11: Because after the Dodgers lost.
- 39:30Speaker 10: The pennant to the.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Brewers, all I could picture was all the announcers getting
- 39:35Speaker 2: in their cars, driving up Highway 1 and driving off
- 39:38Speaker 2: a cliff like a bunch of lemmings.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Charlie Steiner. Yes, I think Dodger announcers are probably happy
- 39:50Speaker 3: they get out early this year. You know, I don't know.
- 39:52Speaker 4: They need a break.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Yes. Less work. Right. Who doesn't want less work? Izzy,
- 40:00Speaker 3: we were laughing earlier. 877-99 on Fox.
- 40:03Speaker 1: We were laughing earlier, me and Taylor, during one of
- 40:06Speaker 1: the podcasts that we did before the show. about Dan
- 40:09Speaker 1: Quinn and Jaden Daniels, that if you were a comedian,
- 40:12Speaker 1: you could not write it up any better than what
- 40:14Speaker 1: happened last night with Dan Quinn not knowing. A week
- 40:18Speaker 1: removed from that debacle against the New York Giants where
- 40:22Speaker 1: a tie felt like a loss and Jaden Daniels looked
- 40:24Speaker 1: lost and the entire coaching staff looked terrible, okay? And
- 40:28Speaker 1: then six days later, They're in a showcase game, Monday
- 40:32Speaker 1: Night Football, and Dan Quinn has no idea what down
- 40:36Speaker 1: it is. They went for it on fourth. He wanted
- 40:38Speaker 1: to kick a field goal on fifth down. Jaden Daniels
- 40:41Speaker 1: had to remind him, hey, we just went for it
- 40:43Speaker 1: on fourth.
- 40:44Speaker 5: And I threw it out of bounds on fourth down.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Well, help me out here, Taylor, because was there an
- 40:49Speaker 4: illegal shift there on that play? Because he's sort of
- 40:52Speaker 4: justifying it, saying he thought maybe they could go for
- 40:55Speaker 4: a field goal after a penalty or something like that.
- 40:58Speaker 4: I could— You know, I'm not a thousand percent sure. Look,
- 41:01Speaker 4: if there's any real truth to that, that he didn't
- 41:04Speaker 4: know what down it was, I feel like people in
- 41:06Speaker 4: that team would, would know that. And I feel like
- 41:10Speaker 4: you lose all respect for your coach in that situation.
- 41:12Speaker 5: The problem though, with giving Dan Quinn, the benefit of
- 41:15Speaker 5: the doubt is we're coming off one of the most
- 41:18Speaker 5: inexcusable endings to a game where, where they let the
- 41:22Speaker 5: clock run out against the giants, where Dan, This was just,
- 41:27Speaker 5: it's just such a bad look for Jaden Daniels. Like
- 41:30Speaker 5: it wasn't a legal shift, but the second that play
- 41:33Speaker 5: ends in a negative result for the commanders, the 49ers
- 41:37Speaker 5: are just going to decline the penalty and say, we're
- 41:39Speaker 5: taking the ball. Now, if you want to make the
- 41:42Speaker 5: excuse for Jaden Daniels, why Jaden Daniels throws the ball
- 41:45Speaker 5: away on fourth down, instead of letting his receiver have
- 41:47Speaker 5: a chance to make a play on the ball. Maybe
- 41:50Speaker 5: I'm willing to hear that where he thinks the flag
- 41:53Speaker 5: might be off sides. It's a free play. They're going
- 41:55Speaker 5: to get a first down anyways. Even then, like if
- 41:58Speaker 5: it's a free play, still just throw the ball up
- 42:01Speaker 5: to one of your receivers. And best case scenario, you
- 42:04Speaker 5: come down with a touchdown. Worst case scenario, you just
- 42:06Speaker 5: have to replay the down.
- 42:08Speaker 3: They're thinking too much out there.
- 42:09Speaker 1: We have sound of Dan Quinn being asked about that play.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Let's play it.
- 42:12Speaker 9: No, I definitely knew it was fourth down.
- 42:13Speaker 4: We were going for it.
- 42:14Speaker 9: And I think what I'm referring to, I'm probably saying, like,
- 42:17Speaker 9: with the illegal shift, there's not a penalty to go
- 42:19Speaker 9: for a field goal. Like, it doesn't go, like, it's
- 42:21Speaker 9: the turn on downs. Like, I think somebody asked me,
- 42:24Speaker 9: can we kick a field goal? So, no, we were
- 42:26Speaker 9: going for it. We knew we had to go for
- 42:27Speaker 9: some fourth downs to be bold in the game. I
- 42:29Speaker 9: didn't think it was going to be a 17-14 game.
- 42:31Speaker 9: I probably thought it was going to need 28-30 to score,
- 42:35Speaker 9: you know, to go win it. And so it was
- 42:37Speaker 9: by design that we were going to go.
- 42:38Speaker 3: But I knew what happened.
- 42:39Speaker 9: I think I was probably just commenting that I remember,
- 42:41Speaker 9: at least on the headset, somebody asked me after an
- 42:43Speaker 9: illegal shift, like it was turnover on downs.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Jaden saw the foul, too.
- 42:47Speaker 9: I think he also came out and saw the penalty.
- 42:50Speaker 4: I think somebody asked me, can we kick a field goal?
- 42:54Speaker 4: So he's not the idiot. He's just surrounded by idiots
- 42:56Speaker 4: is what he's saying. Oh, can we can we kick
- 42:58Speaker 4: a field goal here? Are they going to accept that penalty?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 43:01Speaker 3: We did say earlier, if they were making the movie
- 43:03Speaker 3: Dumb and Dumber based.
- 43:04Speaker 1: On two NFL figures, it would be Dan Quinn and
- 43:08Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels.
- 43:09Speaker 4: What drives me crazy when you I mean, Taylor, is
- 43:13Speaker 4: Jaden Daniels a mobile quarterback?
- 43:15Speaker 5: Yes.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Okay.
- 43:16Speaker 4: So why don't they put him in position more often
- 43:19Speaker 4: to have a run option?
- 43:21Speaker 3: Elbow.
- 43:22Speaker 5: They're afraid his arm is going to break.
- 43:24Speaker 3: They are. They are afraid. He can slide.
- 43:26Speaker 4: He can go out of bounds. But even that last
- 43:28Speaker 4: fourth down at the end of the game where he
- 43:30Speaker 4: chucked it to Stefan Diggs in the corner of the
- 43:32Speaker 4: end zone or the front of the end zone. why
- 43:34Speaker 4: don't you have an opportunity to pick up that first
- 43:38Speaker 4: down with your legs? Like he is supposed to be,
- 43:40Speaker 4: you know, Lamar Jackson-esque, and he does not look at
- 43:45Speaker 4: all like a player who has that ability this year,
- 43:48Speaker 4: nor has he seemingly been put in positions in big
- 43:51Speaker 4: spots to be able.
- 43:52Speaker 3: To do that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: It's just remarkable to me that Dan Quinn, a lifelong
- 43:56Speaker 1: football guy, has put himself in the position where after
- 44:00Speaker 1: the game, people are asking him about elementary things.
- 44:03Speaker 3: Did you know what down it was? But he did
- 44:05Speaker 3: this to himself.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Honestly, his answer makes me think he's lying just because
- 44:11Speaker 4: under normal circumstances there, I don't care who you are,
- 44:13Speaker 4: you would absolutely get super defensive there and just say,
- 44:16Speaker 4: that's a ridiculous question. Of course I knew what down
- 44:18Speaker 4: it was. I don't care what people think, what I
- 44:20Speaker 4: said at the moment, lip readers, etc., Because his answer
- 44:23Speaker 4: was terrible.
- 44:24Speaker 11: Yes.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Let's go out to Davey, who's in Virginia today, wants
- 44:27Speaker 1: to talk Laker basketball.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Davey, go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Izzy, what do.
- 44:34Speaker 10: You think about the snow show in L.A.? Oh, man.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Is that what it's going to be? It's going to
- 44:41Speaker 4: be a race thing with the Lakers all year long?
- 44:44Speaker 4: I guarantee you.
- 44:45Speaker 6: You know it's going to be like that all year long.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I think they're going to be really good.
- 44:53Speaker 4: If it's not Wemby, it's Luka. If both of those
- 44:55Speaker 4: guys play 65 plus games, it's going to be a
- 44:58Speaker 4: race to the MVP between those two. I think skinny
- 45:00Speaker 4: Luka is going to be even better than he was
- 45:03Speaker 4: last year. I think Walker Kessler. I mean, I fell
- 45:06Speaker 4: in love with Walker Kessler in Utah and think he's
- 45:09Speaker 4: going to be sort of the perfect pairing with Luka.
- 45:12Speaker 4: If he can stay healthy, especially defensively, he can really
- 45:15Speaker 4: protect the rim. I just think they're going to be excellent.
- 45:17Speaker 4: I think, you know, he's got everything he needs around him. Um, obviously,
- 45:22Speaker 4: you know, with, uh, why is his name is Austin
- 45:25Speaker 4: Reeves with Austin Reeves there. If he can play all
- 45:28Speaker 4: star level basketball for the course of the season, I
- 45:31Speaker 4: think the Lakers are, you know, again, in a not
- 45:33Speaker 4: so deep Western conference, we'll almost guaranteed a top three seed,
- 45:39Speaker 4: but could they sneak into that top two? I mean,
- 45:40Speaker 4: if Luca's healthy enough, possibly.
- 45:43Speaker 5: Kevin Herter's a Piston?
- 45:44Speaker 3: Red Velvet.
- 45:46Speaker 6: He was a.
- 45:46Speaker 4: Piston last year. He just ended the season injured.
- 45:48Speaker 5: He just ended this half with a buzzer beater.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Yes, now they're going to take it away here. I
- 45:53Speaker 3: think they are. Or maybe they're not.
- 45:55Speaker 1: It's 58-48 going to halftime in Detroit. Celtics lead the Pistons.
- 45:59Speaker 1: And through one half, Izzy's wrong.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Through one half, my Celtics aren't going to be very good.
- 46:07Speaker 4: Does not look like a great prediction. However, not only
- 46:10Speaker 4: is it an 82-game season, if Paul George was ever
- 46:14Speaker 4: going to show up, it's going to be in the
- 46:16Speaker 4: first couple of games.
- 46:16Speaker 5: Yes.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Let's go to, oh, this is in our wheelhouse, Taylor,
- 46:20Speaker 1: because we want to be the Carolina Panther experts.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Eli in North Carolina, go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 46:27Speaker 6: Hey, what's up again, guys? How are you?
- 46:29Speaker 3: What's up, man?
- 46:30Speaker 6: Listen, man, I mean, what a week. What a week, right?
- 46:34Speaker 3: Every week, yes.
- 46:36Speaker 6: I know Jalen Hurts, you know, I hope he gets
- 46:39Speaker 6: better soon, rest up soon, buddy. But, I mean, that
- 46:42Speaker 6: defense was still great, right? I mean, did Bryson look
- 46:44Speaker 6: wonderful or not against them? And how about them Oklahoma
- 46:47Speaker 6: City Thunder? I mean, games back on tonight, 9.30 Eastern time.
- 46:50Speaker 6: Let's get it, baby. Going to knock down them Spurs. SGA,
- 46:55Speaker 6: three MVPs coming soon, maybe?
- 46:59Speaker 4: I don't know about another MVP. That's a lot to
- 47:01Speaker 4: ask for. However, what I do think about the Thunder
- 47:04Speaker 4: is they are, You know, as long as they have
- 47:07Speaker 4: this group, as long as they have him leading the way,
- 47:10Speaker 4: they're going to be a monster regular season team all
- 47:12Speaker 4: the time. Whether they can, you know, complete the task
- 47:15Speaker 4: and beat the best of the best in every seven-game
- 47:18Speaker 4: series they play, that's a whole different question. And I
- 47:21Speaker 4: know there's questions about his eligibility. I don't know if
- 47:23Speaker 4: that's been updated yet, but Mara, the rookie from Michigan,
- 47:27Speaker 4: if he can actually play for this team— They're going
- 47:31Speaker 4: to be even better because, I mean, he looked so
- 47:34Speaker 4: good in the preseason. And we all know Chet Holmgren
- 47:36Speaker 4: probably needs a bit of a boost because I think
- 47:39Speaker 4: his soul was taken last playoffs against Wemby. But, yeah,
- 47:43Speaker 4: I think that team with Jay Williams healthy again and
- 47:46Speaker 4: everything that they've added. I mean, even Jared McCain for
- 47:49Speaker 4: a full season and everything he brings to that team.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Bennett Sturtz, if he can crack the rotation, seems to
- 47:54Speaker 4: be another great shooter to put around SGA. I think
- 47:57Speaker 4: they're going to be, you know, as good as everybody expects.
- 48:00Speaker 3: Taylor, what happened there?
- 48:01Speaker 1: I feel like we were duped because he called in.
- 48:03Speaker 1: He wanted to talk Carolina Panthers.
- 48:04Speaker 3: It's our wheelhouse.
- 48:05Speaker 5: On the call screen, it said Carolina Panthers.
- 48:07Speaker 3: No one talks more Bryce Young and Jalen Coker than us.
- 48:10Speaker 3: I mean, nobody.
- 48:11Speaker 5: I only want to talk about Tedaroa McMillan. So, Izzy,
- 48:15Speaker 5: we have been trying to become the Carolina Panthers show.
- 48:18Speaker 5: I think we are.
- 48:19Speaker 3: We are.
- 48:20Speaker 5: We are huge in Charlotte. And one of the listeners
- 48:23Speaker 5: wrote in saying that we should try to get Jake
- 48:26Speaker 5: DeLome on the show and Jake DeLome should be our
- 48:28Speaker 5: way in. because Jake Delome does game day broadcast for the,
- 48:32Speaker 5: for the Panthers. And the listener suggested that we do
- 48:34Speaker 5: a segment with Jake Delome, a pick segment where he
- 48:37Speaker 5: has to pick between the Jake Delome team or the
- 48:39Speaker 5: Jake Deloway team.
- 48:44Speaker 3: That can't happen soon enough.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Oh, man, I love that. You should just be the
- 48:50Speaker 4: show that just represents Charlotte all together because weren't we
- 48:53Speaker 4: the first ones or maybe you, Taylor? They were going
- 48:55Speaker 4: for it, yeah. Yeah, Charlotte was going for it last year.
- 48:58Speaker 5: Well, that's how I know the Hornets are going for
- 49:00Speaker 5: it because I am so plugged in on what's going
- 49:02Speaker 5: on in the Queen City.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Unfortunately, I think they're going to have a significant drop-off
- 49:06Speaker 4: this year. I know LaMelo Ball, some people thought he
- 49:09Speaker 4: was an issue. But, no, he was definitely an engine.
- 49:12Speaker 4: And I just don't know if this deep Eastern Conference,
- 49:15Speaker 4: if the Hornets are going to be going for.
- 49:16Speaker 3: It I'm glad you brought him up. Do you think
- 49:18Speaker 3: that's going to work, him and Anthony Edwards together?
- 49:21Speaker 4: I think it's going to work for the ratings. I
- 49:22Speaker 4: think it's going to work for fun. I mean, even
- 49:25Speaker 4: Anthony Edwards is the most interesting personality in the NBA since,
- 49:29Speaker 4: I don't know what, Allen Iverson, maybe? Like, he's just
- 49:32Speaker 4: so much fun. And when he said recently that, you know,
- 49:35Speaker 4: be ready when the Minnesota Timberwolves come into your town
- 49:37Speaker 4: because they're going to be on some BS. The entire season,
- 49:40Speaker 4: they're going to be coming in with some hard fouls
- 49:42Speaker 4: and everything else. It's just like it's a great personality
- 49:45Speaker 4: pairing and a style of play. And what people don't
- 49:47Speaker 4: really understand is LaMelo Ball's got a great basketball IQ
- 49:51Speaker 4: for a point guard.
- 49:51Speaker 5: Right.
- 49:52Speaker 4: He might be a little janky. He might be a
- 49:53Speaker 4: little tough to reel in as a head coach, but
- 49:55Speaker 4: he's got a great IQ. You pair him with a
- 49:57Speaker 4: guy MVP caliber player like Anthony Edwards. I think they're
- 50:01Speaker 4: going to be really good.
- 50:02Speaker 1: We're going to have Tom Haberstroh in a second. I
- 50:05Speaker 1: do not have enough time. We'll do it later in
- 50:07Speaker 1: the week.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Tracy Wolfson and Josh Allen.
- 50:10Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Izzy.
- 50:11Speaker 1: And we didn't get to the biggest baseball story of
- 50:13Speaker 1: the day while we were trying to piss off the audience. Taylor,
- 50:16Speaker 1: what is the biggest baseball story of the day here?
- 50:19Speaker 5: Aaron Boone is returning for a 10th season. it's just
- 50:24Speaker 5: beating me down to a point where i really don't
- 50:26Speaker 5: even care like the running back yankees were a joke
- 50:28Speaker 5: aaron boone's 27 and 30 right in the postseason as
- 50:31Speaker 5: yankee manager we know how next season's gonna end we're
- 50:33Speaker 5: gonna win 90 plus games we'll probably come in second
- 50:36Speaker 5: in the division to somebody and then we'll get embarrassed
- 50:39Speaker 5: on our.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Way out of the playoffs and he'll be back but
- 50:41Speaker 1: I have good news, okay? Put a smile on your face.
- 50:43Speaker 1: The Knicks are raising a banner tonight.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Also, let's go Liverpool.
- 50:47Speaker 5: Only thing I have going for me. If you missed

- 51:10Speaker 1: Mike Golick Jr. and Joel Anderson on the pods today.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Our thanks to Tom Haberstroh for joining us in that
- 51:15Speaker 1: last segment. It seems, Taylor, like we have conflicting opinions
- 51:18Speaker 1: here on what the Celtics are going to do this year.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Izzy has them at best as a play-in team. Tom
- 51:24Speaker 1: thinks they might win an NBA championship.
- 51:26Speaker 4: I'm going to be more right. No offense to our buddy, Tom.
- 51:30Speaker 1: Who do you side with? We have to keep track
- 51:31Speaker 1: of this the entire year. I don't know why, but
- 51:34Speaker 1: we have to. Taylor, who do you side with? Who
- 51:36Speaker 1: do you think is going to be closer to being right?
- 51:38Speaker 5: I am going to side with the side of the
- 51:40Speaker 5: Boston Celtics are going to be good this season.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Okay.
- 51:43Speaker 5: Because they banked on Hugo Gonzalez taking a leap and
- 51:47Speaker 5: they put a ton of pressure on Hugo Gonzalez, where
- 51:49Speaker 5: the only reason LeBron James is in Philadelphia seemingly is
- 51:52Speaker 5: because the Celtics wouldn't give up Hugo Gonzalez. So I'm
- 51:56Speaker 5: banking on Hugo Gonzalez taking the leap because I don't
- 51:58Speaker 5: want to see him fail.
- 51:59Speaker 4: But, Tom, you can be right and I can be
- 52:01Speaker 4: right because I think Hugo Gonzalez will make the leap
- 52:04Speaker 4: to the point where he's going to be top three
- 52:05Speaker 4: for most improved player. But that doesn't mean the entire
- 52:08Speaker 4: team is going to be good enough to be top six.
- 52:10Speaker 3: A couple of people being right, cutting it up.
- 52:12Speaker 4: I mean.
- 52:13Speaker 5: How many steps would you say is equivalent to a leap?
- 52:15Speaker 5: Like if I said Hugo Gonzalez takes a step.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 52:18Speaker 5: It's not as good as saying Hugo Gonzalez takes a leap.
- 52:21Speaker 4: No, you're right.
- 52:21Speaker 5: But if I say Hugo Gonzalez took 10 steps this year.
- 52:24Speaker 5: Does 10 steps.
- 52:26Speaker 4: Surpass a leap? I just think you need three steps
- 52:28Speaker 4: equal one leap.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Right. Well, no, three big steps, though. Yeah, giant steps.
- 52:33Speaker 4: You need a little bit of a running start, so
- 52:35Speaker 4: one step, two steps. Like the triple jump. The triple jump,
- 52:38Speaker 4: there you go.
- 52:40Speaker 3: What was your question? Is 10 steps a leap?
- 52:42Speaker 4: 10 steps is too many.
- 52:43Speaker 3: 10 steps is smaller than a leap.
- 52:45Speaker 7: Right.
- 52:45Speaker 5: Or bigger than a leap, I mean.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Well, no, but it's 10 small steps. I think Izzy
- 52:49Speaker 1: is saying three big steps with a jump.
- 52:51Speaker 6: In the end.
- 52:51Speaker 5: I never said they were small steps.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Oh, okay, just 10 steps.
- 52:54Speaker 5: Just 10 steps.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Okay, put it on the poll. Does 10 steps equal
- 52:58Speaker 3: a leap? Ridiculous question.
- 53:01Speaker 1: There are so many great sports documentaries on right now
- 53:04Speaker 1: that I want to see that I haven't had the
- 53:06Speaker 1: chance to see because I'm watching games all the time.
- 53:09Speaker 1: The college football Saturday was as good as it gets.
- 53:12Speaker 1: I want to watch Saban. and I want to see
- 53:14Speaker 1: the Tyson documentary. Have you seen either, Izzy?
- 53:18Speaker 4: I have no interest in watching the Saban one. The
- 53:20Speaker 4: commercials make me want to change a channel. But the
- 53:23Speaker 4: Tyson one, I am, you know, two and a half
- 53:26Speaker 4: episodes in. I keep watching them at night and falling asleep.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Not that it's not good. It's very good. And one
- 53:31Speaker 4: of the things about... I don't know if this is
- 53:32Speaker 4: why you're asking, but I'm going to say it anyway.
- 53:34Speaker 4: One of the things that make me... I just yelled
- 53:38Speaker 4: out loud to my TV, because I didn't know this.
- 53:40Speaker 4: I don't know if everybody knew this, but... When Mike
- 53:43Speaker 4: Tyson lost to Buster Douglas in Tokyo, the night before
- 53:48Speaker 4: the fight, Bobby Brown, Mike Tyson's friend, had a concert.
- 53:54Speaker 6: Right.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Bobby Brown and Mike Tyson partied, according to Bobby Brown,
- 53:58Speaker 4: like maniacs the night before because Mike Tyson didn't think
- 54:01Speaker 4: he would even have a chance at losing to Buster Douglas.
- 54:04Speaker 7: Right.
- 54:04Speaker 4: And, of course, famously, he did lose to Buster Douglas,
- 54:07Speaker 4: his first loss.
- 54:08Speaker 6: Shocking.
- 54:08Speaker 4: Keep Bobby Brown the hell away from our famous people,
- 54:12Speaker 4: the people we love.
- 54:13Speaker 3: He's clear.
- 54:14Speaker 4: I mean, a lot of people blamed him for Whitney
- 54:16Speaker 4: Houston's demise.
- 54:17Speaker 3: Just about everyone.
- 54:18Speaker 4: Yeah. And we saw so unfortunately what happened to her.
- 54:22Speaker 4: And then, you know, the Buster Douglas loss. You could
- 54:25Speaker 4: argue that Mike Tyson was on his way to a
- 54:27Speaker 4: downfall regardless because he was a little bit too inflated.
- 54:30Speaker 4: Of an ego. But man, that is far too much
- 54:34Speaker 4: of a coincidence.
- 54:34Speaker 10: Yes.
- 54:35Speaker 4: I keep Bobby Brown the heck away from our biggest
- 54:38Speaker 4: stars because nothing good is ever going to happen.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the poll. Do we need to
- 54:42Speaker 1: keep Bobby Brown away from our biggest stars?
- 54:46Speaker 3: Like multiple arms distance. Keep that guy away.
- 54:49Speaker 6: Yes.
- 54:49Speaker 1: I remember that it was so it was jarring. because Tyson,
- 54:53Speaker 1: I don't care how late he was out. I don't
- 54:54Speaker 1: care if he didn't sleep for seven days. I still
- 54:56Speaker 1: expected him to beat Buster Douglas and do it rather quickly,
- 54:59Speaker 1: and we woke up in the morning to find out
- 55:02Speaker 1: that Mike Tyson, who was deemed as unbeatable at the time,
- 55:06Speaker 1: was beaten by an inferior opponent, and James Buster, well,
- 55:09Speaker 1: I guess he was defeated by Bobby Brown.
- 55:12Speaker 4: He was. The interesting part, too, that I didn't remember
- 55:15Speaker 4: this either was that Buster Douglas' mom had passed away
- 55:18Speaker 4: maybe a week or two before the fight. So you have, like,
- 55:21Speaker 4: completely dueling levels of motivation. One is just like, I
- 55:24Speaker 4: don't care, I'm doing a bunch of drugs and hanging
- 55:26Speaker 4: out with Bobby Brown. And the other one wanting to
- 55:28Speaker 4: do it for his deceased mother. And so, you know,
- 55:31Speaker 4: that outcome seemed like it was the fitting one. But
- 55:34Speaker 4: in terms of the documentary overall, it really is fantastic
- 55:37Speaker 4: because you see Mike Tyson for who he is today
- 55:40Speaker 4: and right now, and he's just so... sort of introspective.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Yes.
- 55:44Speaker 4: Like his emotions come out when he doesn't want them
- 55:46Speaker 4: to even. And he's asking, you know, the cameraman to
- 55:48Speaker 4: stop the camera. And it's like a good documentary. And
- 55:50Speaker 4: he did not stop the camera. And you see a
- 55:52Speaker 4: lot of things just coming out of Mike that you
- 55:54Speaker 4: never would have expected to see. And again, I'm not
- 55:57Speaker 4: even all the way through this thing. And it's just,
- 55:59Speaker 4: it's really, really good.
- 56:00Speaker 3: Taylor, put it on the poll. Who beat Mike Tyson
- 56:02Speaker 3: that night?
- 56:02Speaker 1: Buster Douglas or Bobby Brown?
- 56:07Speaker 4: You could just see it in that fight, man.
- 56:08Speaker 5: Bobby Brown might be undefeated.
- 56:10Speaker 4: He is.
- 56:12Speaker 3: But keep him away. I'm with Izzy. Far, far away.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Before we get out of here, a bit of fun show. Izzy,
- 56:19Speaker 3: thanks for coming in again. Working more. Weekend's getting shorter.
- 56:22Speaker 3: We appreciate it. But quickly here.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Because Izzy's been walking around muttering during commercial breaks about
- 56:28Speaker 1: Mario Cristobal and his four fingers.
- 56:31Speaker 4: Nothing that drives me crazier than this dude putting up
- 56:35Speaker 4: the fourth. And now he does it with both hands.
- 56:37Speaker 4: So is it the eighth quarter? And what happens when
- 56:39Speaker 4: you win in overtime? Do the fourth quarter things no
- 56:41Speaker 4: longer matter? Like, come on, dude. There's got to be
- 56:45Speaker 4: a lot more for you to do heading into the
- 56:47Speaker 4: fourth quarter than staring into the crowd holding four fingers
- 56:50Speaker 4: on each hand like.
- 56:51Speaker 1: You're... Especially in a close game, you have to have
- 56:54Speaker 1: more to be thinking about than, hey, I got to
- 56:56Speaker 1: put my fingers up because it's the fourth.
- 56:58Speaker 3: We all know it's the fourth quarter. Coach!
- 57:01Speaker 5: Izzy, I say this as a Miami hater. chris the
- 57:04Speaker 5: ball has completely won me over same here it's it's
- 57:08Speaker 5: sad to even say those words coming out of my
- 57:11Speaker 5: mouth don't even feel right it feels like i'm cursing
- 57:14Speaker 5: at my mother saying those.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Words what happened they got to a championship game you
- 57:17Speaker 1: saw how serious he was when he was on the
