- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody, welcome into the Irish Theaters podcast, looking back on
- 0:11Speaker 1: Week eleven of the season and getting set for week
- 0:13Speaker 1: twelve in a short week for the Steelers. Michael mcquid,
- 0:16Speaker 1: Jimmy English, Davog McKee here on Ireland's podcast for the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers, eminating not just across the island of Ireland,
- 0:24Speaker 1: but across the world as well. And you're all very
- 0:26Speaker 1: very welcome as we sit here and talk about the
- 0:28Speaker 1: Steelers team on fire after defeating the Baltimore Ravens to
- 0:33Speaker 1: move to eaton two in the season. Jimmy, it's time
- 0:36Speaker 1: for Thursday night football. Man.
- 0:37Speaker 2: How are you doing.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm good, Nick, I'm good.
- 0:39Speaker 4: This distress level so just about were turned to normal
- 0:42Speaker 4: after that Steelers and Ravens game.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I always said I was.
- 0:45Speaker 4: One nervous boy the entire way throughout waiting for Lamar
- 0:49Speaker 4: Jackson could put off America. But no good win for
- 0:52Speaker 4: the Steelers. We're sitting attop now the ASC North eight
- 0:54Speaker 4: and two. I'm honestly I think we can. I think
- 0:58Speaker 4: we can run the the scout at this stage. The
- 1:00Speaker 4: way they're playing absolutely balling out. And look, it wasn't
- 1:04Speaker 4: the perfect game by any means it was a classic
- 1:07Speaker 4: AFC North, you know, defensive battle, not a lot on
- 1:11Speaker 4: offense from our steeters, but look will take the win.
- 1:13Speaker 4: We're sitting pretty now eating two and we could be
- 1:17Speaker 4: a dark horse for the for the super Bowl.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Get those flights.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I literally tax these boys and Sunday and said, get
- 1:24Speaker 1: the flights book today.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Looking forward to Thursday night.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Obviously we'll talk about Browns gaming a few months and Jimmy,
- 1:29Speaker 1: it's it's good to hear from me as well man
- 1:30Speaker 1: doing November. Shout out to everybody doing November here dog,
- 1:36Speaker 1: I feel like we almost need to jump over and
- 1:38Speaker 1: meet each other because with a little bit ten and
- 1:39Speaker 1: i's got to watch this Thursday night game. This season,
- 1:41Speaker 1: as Jimmy says, is getting better and better each week
- 1:43Speaker 1: and he hitting two teams. And we sort of said
- 1:45Speaker 1: last week in the podcast, behind important the walls, just
- 1:47Speaker 1: to get over the edge against the Threevens teams who
- 1:49Speaker 1: looked really, really good, didn't happen to them last week.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Great to see though, just for our sort of viewpoint,
- 1:55Speaker 1: how are you doing? Have you been living a highlight
- 1:57Speaker 1: for the last seventy two hours after that after that game,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I have.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Been Mecca just sort of like Jimmy said there, I
- 2:03Speaker 5: barely have any fingers, neil fingernails left after that one.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It was incredible, but no extremes.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Such an extremely valuable win, you know, gives us a
- 2:11Speaker 5: two game cushing in the FC North. You know, Steelers
- 2:14Speaker 5: Ravens football. It's a absolute finals, low scoring, biting the
- 2:17Speaker 5: finger nails, toughest team wins the game. At the end
- 2:19Speaker 5: of the day, I think there was nineteen penalties. I
- 2:21Speaker 5: felt like a lot of times the raft were losing
- 2:23Speaker 5: the troubler of the game. There was that many scuffles.
- 2:24Speaker 5: But a great weekend to be a Steeler fan. Not
- 2:27Speaker 5: only were the Ravens losing to us, but also the
- 2:29Speaker 5: Browns lost, the Bengals lost. It leaves us, you know,
- 2:32Speaker 5: seton Cushie at the top of the f C North.
- 2:34Speaker 5: So I'm couldn't be a happier And as Jimmy said there,
- 2:37Speaker 5: I think we are a good dark horse win the
- 2:39Speaker 5: super Bowl now. But yeah, really happy living the high life.
- 2:43Speaker 5: And yeah, I'm not going to book the flightstar of
- 2:45Speaker 5: the New Orleans just yet, but we'll see how it
- 2:48Speaker 5: goes in the next couple of weeks.
- 2:51Speaker 4: The weeks against an Airbnb by the way, I'm looking
- 2:55Speaker 4: at options now at the minute. Do you get in
- 2:57Speaker 4: get into those DM that it's pricey for new So
- 3:01Speaker 4: I'd love the black and goal to get there.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Bush.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I don't know. It could be an interesting one if
- 3:05Speaker 3: we have to make that trip across.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Early days and yet the first and night against Cleveland
- 3:11Speaker 1: and then Cincinnati who aren't doing too great themselves for
- 3:13Speaker 1: different reasons, but still playing well on offense to an extent,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and Cleveland with home again and then Philly, Baltimore, Kansas
- 3:20Speaker 1: City and Cincinnati. I just had that very can't. Oh yeah,
- 3:22Speaker 1: all those games, A lot of the FC North games
- 3:25Speaker 1: coming up, and Jimmy, I guess before we talk about
- 3:26Speaker 1: this game coming up this week, just for you, are
- 3:29Speaker 1: you more of a sort of guy that loves old
- 3:31Speaker 1: school football like that was? That was old school football
- 3:33Speaker 1: and something and I'm not gonna lie. I loved it.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And I look, I love high scoring games like I
- 3:39Speaker 1: love watching college football. There's fifty sixty points in the game.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But he was just so nervy and it was that
- 3:45Speaker 1: like yinser sort of you know strategy where it was
- 3:48Speaker 1: it was pongee football, nosebleeds sort of football. I loved it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: It doesn't really like I wouldn't say I'm overly concerned
- 3:57Speaker 1: the fact that the Seders in passing touchdown in the game.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Sort of I knew it was going to be tight.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And that's where you know, you expect your special teams
- 4:04Speaker 1: to really pick up and to really perform on the
- 4:06Speaker 1: day because you need that. You know, you need guys
- 4:10Speaker 1: like Chris Boswell, and we know how good he is
- 4:13Speaker 1: a long from fifty seven on the day and when
- 4:16Speaker 1: it's hard, especially on the field and in an AFC
- 4:20Speaker 1: North matchup like that, when it's starting to get cold,
- 4:23Speaker 1: it's so so important to have those guys there. So
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm not too concerned about that. But are you a
- 4:27Speaker 1: point sky, are you a nerve guy or a bit
- 4:30Speaker 1: of both.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I think I'm definitely a points guy.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I make I'm definitely an offensively minded former player, an
- 4:38Speaker 4: offensive love.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I love the high scoring games. I love the big.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Explosive plays, and they were a few and far between
- 4:44Speaker 4: in the game against the Ravens and someday. Look, all
- 4:47Speaker 4: I'll say is in Buzz we trust Bozo Manick whenever
- 4:51Speaker 4: SUPERTEDI if you want to get out there, he was
- 4:53Speaker 4: absolutely on fire and in games like this and the girl.
- 4:57Speaker 4: I've been watching the steal it in Ravens now for years,
- 5:00Speaker 4: years and they're always tight, can't get tightly contested battles.
- 5:04Speaker 3: And it was a game of five margins as well.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Right, I mean, Justin Tucker had two crucial missed field
- 5:09Speaker 4: goals which could have been the difference at the end
- 5:11Speaker 4: of the day with the with how title was in
- 5:14Speaker 4: the end, you know, coming down to only a couple
- 5:16Speaker 4: of points different. Also, like it got real real nervy
- 5:21Speaker 4: towards the end when the Ravens were driving down and
- 5:23Speaker 4: they got that touchdown and then elected to go for
- 5:25Speaker 4: two as we all knew they would, and then Lamar
- 5:28Speaker 4: Jackson got swarmed by a load of black and gold jerseys.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So you love to see that.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I do love the chippiness as well.
- 5:34Speaker 4: I mean, like I said, it was a classic Steeters
- 5:36Speaker 4: Ravens at North smash Mount football. Just at several points
- 5:42Speaker 4: there was there was a combination of handbags and at
- 5:45Speaker 4: the odds shmuzzle as well, So I think it was
- 5:47Speaker 4: that boiling point for for most of the fixture and
- 5:50Speaker 4: you just you just love it. But I had a
- 5:52Speaker 4: hard time sleeping afterwards, especially with the games that they
- 5:56Speaker 4: came on afterwards. But it was like a great game
- 6:00Speaker 4: and hopefully we can we can carry the momentum in
- 6:03Speaker 4: there to the rest of the schedule, because are some
- 6:06Speaker 4: of our toughest tests are now behind this. We have
- 6:08Speaker 4: passed them, but then.
- 6:10Speaker 3: We're not in the clear by any means, I don't
- 6:12Speaker 3: think quite yet.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that that fifteenth, twenty first, twenty fifth on TBD
- 6:18Speaker 1: probably just early in the year that that just looks
- 6:21Speaker 1: so vital now, but it's been getting from then to
- 6:23Speaker 1: now and then maybe being able to afford a loss
- 6:25Speaker 1: for two and see in the crack dovug and you know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: going up against the Ravens offense that many people and
- 6:31Speaker 1: look I still do it's for me. It's top two,
- 6:33Speaker 1: top three offense in football. This defense had them. They
- 6:37Speaker 1: held them to minus zero point thirteen EPA per play,
- 6:42Speaker 1: forty percent success rate, and force free turnovers on the day. Now, look,
- 6:46Speaker 1: Pittsburgh themselves had a thirty two percent success rate and
- 6:49Speaker 1: both offenses didn't do well. But at the end of
- 6:51Speaker 1: the day, the defense to this job and limited the
- 6:53Speaker 1: team that we're doing very very well at sixteen points.
- 6:55Speaker 1: There's that, but Also we got to talk about Arthur
- 6:58Speaker 1: Smith's main moment where he lost the head, and I
- 7:02Speaker 1: think at the point, like if we haven't lost the game,
- 7:04Speaker 1: it probably wouldn't have been the thing we could have
- 7:05Speaker 1: talked about bags. What's funny shows how investity is in
- 7:08Speaker 1: his team, Like Dovid.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you know when when rushed through that
- 7:13Speaker 5: interception in the end zone, I think that was the
- 7:15Speaker 5: reaction of Avery Steelers on Planet Earth.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It was just what are you doing?
- 7:20Speaker 5: But you know it's something you know you mentioned there
- 7:24Speaker 5: about you know, the Ravens offense. I'm actually gonna defend
- 7:26Speaker 5: Lamar Jackson because I myself have been very critical of
- 7:29Speaker 5: him and I see a lot of people that have
- 7:30Speaker 5: been missing him, you know, saying about his record against
- 7:33Speaker 5: Steelers and the Chiefs, and people need to remember that,
- 7:35Speaker 5: you know, his just as Jimmy said there as checker
- 7:38Speaker 5: missed two field goals madwhile ours was a perfect six
- 7:41Speaker 5: of six. You know, we have the best checker in
- 7:42Speaker 5: the league there, do not? I know, Justin Tucker, He's
- 7:45Speaker 5: been regarded for many years as the best chicker. He
- 7:48Speaker 5: seems like he's lost it this year. He's been very
- 7:50Speaker 5: poor and we won the turnover bottle three to one,
- 7:52Speaker 5: those of you know, two of those not being his fault,
- 7:55Speaker 5: two of those great players by our defense. You know,
- 7:57Speaker 5: potterck Queens specifically had an amazing game against his old team,
- 8:01Speaker 5: and you know, the offense, of course there were nowhere
- 8:03Speaker 5: near as good as they had been previously. Russell Wilson
- 8:06Speaker 5: as it was just a minute, probably his worst game
- 8:09Speaker 5: under center as a Steeler, you know, got pick in
- 8:10Speaker 5: the end zone was just I think even Russ would
- 8:12Speaker 5: have met himself. It's just something you can't do with
- 8:14Speaker 5: that Stagson the game where it could put us up
- 8:16Speaker 5: by you know, by yet points at the time, although
- 8:19Speaker 5: we did end up going up because of bos Well,
- 8:21Speaker 5: but you know, it was just a costing mistake at
- 8:23Speaker 5: that time. But thankfully it didn't come back to beout us.
- 8:25Speaker 5: And I just feel like, you know, our ability to
- 8:27Speaker 5: lean on that league's best defense, it's just a luxury
- 8:30Speaker 5: most teams don't have. You know, the Rams are number
- 8:32Speaker 5: one on offense in the league. We reduced you know
- 8:35Speaker 5: them the sixteen points, reduced the MVPID and nothing basically
- 8:38Speaker 5: and of course probably the best running back in the
- 8:40Speaker 5: league as well. You know, under seventy yards. I think
- 8:43Speaker 5: he was didn't get a touch in the fourth quarter.
- 8:45Speaker 5: You know, every single amount of that defense, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 5: can hold their heads up high and you know played
- 8:49Speaker 5: with great passion. You know, didn't give up a single yard.
- 8:52Speaker 5: And so overall it was a coaching Martis class across
- 8:54Speaker 5: the board, really really proud, and yeah, couldn't be happier
- 8:58Speaker 5: with the performance overall, just to jump.
- 9:00Speaker 2: In there and make quickly.
- 9:02Speaker 4: In Russell Wilson's defense, it wasn't entirely his fault. I
- 9:05Speaker 4: don't think the performance he had in most cases, he
- 9:08Speaker 4: had no time to actually settle and find receivers he
- 9:11Speaker 4: was being the offensive line gave up so much pressure.
- 9:15Speaker 4: So I think that's something that needs to be addressed
- 9:17Speaker 4: big time ahead of the Browns and their pass rus
- 9:19Speaker 4: this Sunday.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Also, I would like.
- 9:21Speaker 4: To see the receivers from the art downfield break off
- 9:25Speaker 4: their roots to get into the good old scramble drill.
- 9:28Speaker 4: If you do see your quarterback running for his life,
- 9:30Speaker 4: break off your route and get open. That's that's something
- 9:32Speaker 4: you're thought at, you know, when you're a young wide receiver,
- 9:36Speaker 4: is to help your quarterback out. So I think that
- 9:39Speaker 4: there was a couple of factors there that might have
- 9:41Speaker 4: mitigated his his overall poor performance on the day.
- 9:46Speaker 3: And you know, you know, I don't fault them with
- 9:48Speaker 3: that interception.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Okay, he might have been better off throwing it out
- 9:53Speaker 4: of bounds, throwing it away, but I think Darnell Washington
- 9:55Speaker 4: should have had the awareness to get his head around
- 9:57Speaker 4: and make a play even if he was triple coverage.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I mean, the man at six five, six six, he's
- 10:02Speaker 4: he could have boxed at any any defender on that
- 10:04Speaker 4: on that field, I'm made to play on that ball.
- 10:07Speaker 3: So for a change, I'm.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Sticking up for Russell Wilson looks the Again, it comes
- 10:13Speaker 4: down to the scenario and the environment, and it was
- 10:16Speaker 4: just one of those days we got to win, but
- 10:18Speaker 4: definitely a lot of things to be cleaned up before
- 10:20Speaker 4: the Browns this Thursday night.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'm really enjoying, like just to odd the way you're saying,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'm really enjoying the personal relation that Wilson seems to
- 10:28Speaker 1: have his offense, in the way that he spoke so
- 10:30Speaker 1: highly of of Justin Fields as well. There just seems
- 10:33Speaker 1: to be a good vibe. Yes, they're grinding on that
- 10:35Speaker 1: results and look sometimes she did a bit of look
- 10:36Speaker 1: as well. But there's seems to be a really really
- 10:38Speaker 1: good vibe in that locker room right now, it which
- 10:40Speaker 1: is great. And we're gonna look ahead of this first
- 10:42Speaker 1: night football game very quickly before we do that. It's
- 10:44Speaker 1: a short week this week usually coach Tomlin's press conference
- 10:47Speaker 1: of the Tuesday it took place on the Monday. Let's
- 10:49Speaker 1: hear what he had to say ahead of this game
- 10:50Speaker 1: against the Browns on Thursday night football.
- 10:54Speaker 6: What can we perform on a limited amount of physical repetitions?
- 10:58Speaker 6: What do we need to, you know, take a calculated
- 11:01Speaker 6: risk in terms of running on a limited amount of
- 11:05Speaker 6: physical repetitions. I just think that that's always the case
- 11:09Speaker 6: on Thursday. We don't default to, you know, based menus
- 11:15Speaker 6: and things of that nature. Particularly when you plan someone
- 11:19Speaker 6: that is familiar with you, as Cleveland is with us.
- 11:23Speaker 6: It is worth the trouble to ponder what's appropriate to
- 11:26Speaker 6: run and what's not. How innovative can we be, how
- 11:30Speaker 6: expansive can our menus be impress the envelope in that direction?
- 11:34Speaker 6: And so we got some hardcore decisions there. You also
- 11:37Speaker 6: got some hardcore decisions about how you work. What's the
- 11:41Speaker 6: nature of your work. Are they walk throughs? Are they
- 11:44Speaker 6: run throughs on a limited amount of preparation time on
- 11:48Speaker 6: a short week? What does that look like? And you know,
- 11:52Speaker 6: you manage the balancing the act of getting them in
- 11:55Speaker 6: the stadium physically prepared while at the same time preserving
- 11:58Speaker 6: them acknowledging that they We're in a significant physical football
- 12:01Speaker 6: game yesterday, and so we got that decision to make,
- 12:05Speaker 6: and then how to best utilize the last twenty four hours.
- 12:09Speaker 6: You know, we go to Cleveland on Wednesday. Oftentimes when
- 12:12Speaker 6: you travel on the road, that last twenty four hours
- 12:15Speaker 6: is loosely organized, not necessarily so on a short week,
- 12:20Speaker 6: how we organize that time, How we utilize that time
- 12:23Speaker 6: players and coaches, I think will be significant in terms
- 12:26Speaker 6: of determining our readiness. And so those are some of
- 12:29Speaker 6: the things that had my attention as I quickly transition
- 12:32Speaker 6: to this prep on an injury note. Hadn't checked in
- 12:38Speaker 6: on Alex Highsmith in terms of seeing what his availability
- 12:43Speaker 6: might look like. If you press me, I'd probably say
- 12:47Speaker 6: he's more out than in. But we'll see where this
- 12:50Speaker 6: short week leads us. Like the trajectory of some others,
- 12:55Speaker 6: prou it Ben went down in game but appears to
- 13:00Speaker 6: be a non issue from yesterday. All the guys that
- 13:03Speaker 6: sustained something in game doesn't appear to be an issue
- 13:06Speaker 6: moving forward, and so that's exciting. We open the window
- 13:11Speaker 6: for Corey Trice, as you guys know, last week, and
- 13:14Speaker 6: he had a good week's work and maybe available to us,
- 13:16Speaker 6: and so we'll see where that leads us as well.
- 13:20Speaker 6: And so we'll manage some of these player availability things
- 13:23Speaker 6: and divisional labor things, particularly on a short week. How
- 13:28Speaker 6: you distribute carries, how you distribute reps in terms of defenders,
- 13:33Speaker 6: and an effort to keep everyone fresh, I think is
- 13:36Speaker 6: critical strategic decisions that have to happen on a short week.
- 13:40Speaker 6: I'm not complaining about it by any stretch. Cleveland has
- 13:43Speaker 6: to make the same decisions, and so from that standpoint
- 13:47Speaker 6: is very fair. I'll turn my attention now to Cleveland
- 13:51Speaker 6: and talk about some of the challenges of preparing for them,
- 13:54Speaker 6: starting first and foremost with their offense. Man, I'm really
- 13:57Speaker 6: just trying to get a sense of what does Ken
- 14:00Speaker 6: Dorsey as the primary play caller mean, How is it different,
- 14:06Speaker 6: What are the challenges for us relative to what we're
- 14:10Speaker 6: used to regarding Cleveland, And so that's gonna be a challenge.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Obviously we've seen Ken in the past from his time
- 14:17Speaker 6: in Buffalo, but these last three games way a heck
- 14:21Speaker 6: of a lot more than the ones that proceed because
- 14:25Speaker 6: of the significance of him as a central play caller.
- 14:28Speaker 6: It coupled with that, obviously is winstand in that quarterback,
- 14:32Speaker 6: and so we gotta familiarize ourselves with with that tandem
- 14:36Speaker 6: and how they work and what does that mean to
- 14:39Speaker 6: their schematics and personality on offense. Obviously, they got some
- 14:44Speaker 6: known people that we have to deal with. Mister Chubb
- 14:47Speaker 6: first and foremost, just got so much respect for his
- 14:51Speaker 6: game and his body of work and his capabilities. From
- 14:56Speaker 6: an appreciator of football standpoint, man, it's really good to
- 14:58Speaker 6: see him back. But from a guy that competes against
- 15:02Speaker 6: him this week, obviously he has our attention. Jerome Ford
- 15:06Speaker 6: I thought stood in for him in a real solid
- 15:11Speaker 6: way a year ago and continues to do those things. Man,
- 15:15Speaker 6: he's a home run hitter. He's a guy that's capable
- 15:17Speaker 6: of breaking big runs. He broke a big run on
- 15:19Speaker 6: us last year, his last year at Cincinnati. We did
- 15:22Speaker 6: a lot of work on him in draft prep. I
- 15:24Speaker 6: think He had more explosion runs than anybody in that
- 15:27Speaker 6: draft pool, and so his big play capabilities have our attention.
- 15:32Speaker 6: They got some turnover at the receiver position, but it's
- 15:35Speaker 6: not lack of talent there. Judy is new to them,
- 15:38Speaker 6: but he's not new to the NFL. Man. He's coming
- 15:40Speaker 6: off of a really big game. Uh. They're acquired more
- 15:44Speaker 6: from the Jets last year, and he's a top notch
- 15:47Speaker 6: slot receiver. There's been some strong development in Tillman on
- 15:52Speaker 6: the outside, and I think his growth and development is
- 15:55Speaker 6: probably the central reason why they were comfortable moving on
- 15:58Speaker 6: from Cooper at the trade deadline. Watching his play and
- 16:02Speaker 6: looking at his statistics and particularly of late, you see
- 16:06Speaker 6: that growth in production, in the cohesion that he's gaining
- 16:09Speaker 6: in terms of his professional career. We got some work
- 16:12Speaker 6: to do there. And then last week it was the
- 16:15Speaker 6: first time they activated Tony and they had some packages
- 16:19Speaker 6: for him. You couple all of those eligibles that I
- 16:23Speaker 6: mentioned with Nijoku at tight end, and obviously we're highly
- 16:26Speaker 6: familiar with him. He is a challenge.
- 16:29Speaker 5: It's been ratings weekends, and as with a victory, do
- 16:32Speaker 5: you feel more sense of relief or a more sense.
- 16:34Speaker 6: Of relation really, I'm just on to Cleveland. Maybe it's
- 16:38Speaker 6: just a nature that this is a Thursday night, but
- 16:41Speaker 6: by the time my car leaves that parking lot, I'm
- 16:44Speaker 6: on the move. I've been in it too long to
- 16:46Speaker 6: bathe in it, to be quite honest.
- 16:48Speaker 1: With you, Thursday Night Football, big week for the theaters.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Week twelve of the NFL season on. It's hard to
- 16:57Speaker 1: believe that we're only a matter of weeks away from
- 16:59Speaker 1: the regular season ending, and as it stands, we are
- 17:01Speaker 1: looking at a Steelers team touch wood, please God, gonna
- 17:05Speaker 1: make it into the playoffs. And it's great to hear
- 17:06Speaker 1: there from coach Tumblin on the Irish Steelers podcast. And
- 17:10Speaker 1: I guess just looking forward to this game on Thursday
- 17:12Speaker 1: Night Football. Look, I'm not lie. It's coffee for me,
- 17:16Speaker 1: but I'm gonna say up and I keep going. I
- 17:18Speaker 1: told myself actually in August that this is the one
- 17:21Speaker 1: THURSDA night football game itself for actuallyself, for a couple
- 17:23Speaker 1: of self, for player four. But I'm up, I'm pumped,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I'm ready to go. So looking forward to hearing everybody
- 17:27Speaker 1: on Thursday Night Live. The chance, I think for me,
- 17:30Speaker 1: the chance to go nine and two is just huge
- 17:32Speaker 1: and to go nine and two. Please God, if it
- 17:35Speaker 1: happens so worthy in the week, Jimmy is great before
- 17:38Speaker 1: the rest of the NFL players, So touchwood it happens.
- 17:40Speaker 1: On the other hand as well, if that wasn't the
- 17:42Speaker 1: case and we were the fall, especially a team that's
- 17:44Speaker 1: this two and eight, it would be disappointing. So that's
- 17:46Speaker 1: why it's such a make a break game for me.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It doesn't matter how many wins you've got. Every game.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Every week you start owing oh again. And that's the
- 17:52Speaker 1: way that I see it. And the Browns, obviously, as
- 17:54Speaker 1: I said that, are two and eight following their week
- 17:55Speaker 1: eleven loss against the New Orleans scenes with a bit
- 17:58Speaker 1: of rizzy ball going to and out on the season.
- 18:00Speaker 1: It's been a rough season for Cleveland, and look, there
- 18:02Speaker 1: are many questions about the future of the Cleveland Browns.
- 18:05Speaker 1: We're not going to do an autopsy on the Browns,
- 18:07Speaker 1: but the Browns clearly need to figure out what they're
- 18:09Speaker 1: going to do in that quarterback room. I guess one
- 18:11Speaker 1: of the biggest things to me as well is as
- 18:13Speaker 1: we look at the Browns, this is the team where
- 18:16Speaker 1: a lot of people expected them to do a lot
- 18:18Speaker 1: better and we said ourselves coming into this season, I
- 18:21Speaker 1: fully expected the Browns to be challenged for the AFC
- 18:24Speaker 1: North and it hasn't happened. You know, they're preparing for
- 18:26Speaker 1: this week obviously against the Stelers. They've put offensive tackle
- 18:29Speaker 1: for people listening, Darwin Jones on IR He's suffer season
- 18:33Speaker 1: ending leg injury last week as well and made a
- 18:36Speaker 1: couple of changes there and then just quickly as well,
- 18:39Speaker 1: obviously coach Tomlin saying there and saying this week in
- 18:41Speaker 1: this press conference, Keanuck Benton. His injury is a non issue,
- 18:45Speaker 1: but they are expecting as of right now we're recording
- 18:48Speaker 1: on Tuesday afternoon suresy Tuesday evening time, they're expecting Alex
- 18:52Speaker 1: high Smith, who is likely to miss this Browns game. Jimmy,
- 18:56Speaker 1: I usually say that you know the keys of the
- 18:58Speaker 1: game from me here in the run game here, I think
- 19:01Speaker 1: after the week that we had last week with the
- 19:05Speaker 1: Ravens and the lack of offensive scoring, especially with touchdowns,
- 19:08Speaker 1: past touchdowns and passing yards, for me, it's get that
- 19:11Speaker 1: ball on the field and hopefully we see Russell mcturishly
- 19:14Speaker 1: touchdown passes on primetime television, and that's my key to
- 19:17Speaker 1: the game. What's your faults on the Browns overall, and
- 19:20Speaker 1: do you have a key to the game also wing
- 19:21Speaker 1: up against them?
- 19:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I'm approaching this one with quind of
- 19:25Speaker 4: kind of quiet, cautious optimism. And you know, Stee Simon
- 19:30Speaker 4: have been watching the team long enough, we'll know meck
- 19:32Speaker 4: that they we have a tendency to play down to
- 19:35Speaker 4: teams that are not doing quite well. We've seen that
- 19:38Speaker 4: throughout the years, and historically I think the Browns have
- 19:41Speaker 4: been especially when they're not playing well, they have been
- 19:44Speaker 4: a track team. So I am cautious that we might
- 19:47Speaker 4: you know, be riding a bit high and be full
- 19:50Speaker 4: of maybe overblown confidence after that close winning against the
- 19:53Speaker 4: Ravens and not come in fully prepared.
- 19:56Speaker 3: So I think that's one just to be cautious of.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Although we have seen the Browns are.
- 19:59Speaker 4: In full on meltdown mode right now, so that's definitely
- 20:03Speaker 4: gonna be in our to our advantage. I think for me,
- 20:05Speaker 4: the key to the game is just get more sacks.
- 20:08Speaker 4: We've had a couple of sackless games down in a row,
- 20:10Speaker 4: I think. And while you know TJ One and the
- 20:13Speaker 4: guys along the line, they're playing fantastic.
- 20:15Speaker 3: They completely discombobulated Lamara Jackson. Last weekend. We shut down
- 20:19Speaker 3: Derrick Henry.
- 20:22Speaker 4: We we had we sorry, we did have one sack
- 20:24Speaker 4: that was that was disallowed due to I think it
- 20:26Speaker 4: was a defensive holding at one stage. So definitely need
- 20:30Speaker 4: to get after, need to get after the Browns starting
- 20:34Speaker 4: quarterback Jameis Winston a little bit more.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Put some pressure on him. That's the biggest thing for me,
- 20:40Speaker 3: is just more pressure off the edge, more sacks, more
- 20:42Speaker 3: QB hurries. And then again and just to echo what
- 20:45Speaker 3: you said, offensively, we need touchdowns. We can't be relying
- 20:48Speaker 3: on the golden boot of Chris Boswell for the rest
- 20:51Speaker 3: of the season. We need to get those sixes on
- 20:53Speaker 3: the board.
- 20:54Speaker 4: And just overall, and I've been saying it for the
- 20:56Speaker 4: past couple of weeks, it's just cleaning up small things.
- 20:59Speaker 4: We are getting the wins and there's no denying that
- 21:01Speaker 4: it that this particular brand of football is working. But
- 21:07Speaker 4: the offense just needs to step up and get points
- 21:09Speaker 4: on the board big time. And I think we look
- 21:11Speaker 4: the Saints are by no means a good team right now.
- 21:15Speaker 4: They have bounced back a little bit and they completely
- 21:17Speaker 4: blew the brands out of the park last weekend thirty
- 21:20Speaker 4: five to fourteen. So there's no reason that the steeters
- 21:23Speaker 4: when our offense can't go in and do the same,
- 21:25Speaker 4: if not more damage.
- 21:26Speaker 3: So we will wait and see.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Fully agree with divog and not no picks yet. It
- 21:34Speaker 1: don't be making a lodgement just yet. But key to
- 21:36Speaker 1: the game. It's hard against this bronze team because Jimmy's
- 21:39Speaker 1: want to said it there, it's a bit like soccer
- 21:41Speaker 1: when it's a cup or a cup final, team's rolls
- 21:44Speaker 1: up for playing certain teams.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I feel were.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Football, maybe nobody cares that's a two win bronze team.
- 21:49Speaker 1: This is their cup final this weekend.
- 21:51Speaker 5: No, you're you're just right. And Jimmy's even mentioned that,
- 21:55Speaker 5: you know, when you come off such a high emotional
- 21:57Speaker 5: victory in the NFL, it's difficult to back it up
- 21:59Speaker 5: with any great you know.
- 22:01Speaker 2: This is why maybe we wouldn't.
- 22:03Speaker 5: Have wanted the whole FC nor schedule to be at
- 22:06Speaker 5: this side, because there's so many emotional games and you're
- 22:08Speaker 5: coming up against players that you've been playing only a
- 22:10Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago as well. So it's certainly a
- 22:12Speaker 5: game we need to be worry of mac. Divisional games
- 22:14Speaker 5: are always close. You know, this team beat the Ravens
- 22:17Speaker 5: only a few weeks ago as well. Albeit you know
- 22:19Speaker 5: they're not the best team in the NFL. We know that,
- 22:21Speaker 5: and we still need to be cautious. You know, the
- 22:23Speaker 5: thirty FoST and points scored, twenty seventh from total offense.
- 22:26Speaker 5: You know, they don't really do a lot of offensively.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Defensively thirtieth and takeaways just proven that they don't force turnovers,
- 22:33Speaker 5: so they're also lost in the league as well. And
- 22:35Speaker 5: the third time percentage made, meaning the defense shouldn't have
- 22:39Speaker 5: a hard time of getting off the failing this one.
- 22:40Speaker 5: So I think keys to the game. Really, it's very
- 22:43Speaker 5: similar to the game against the Chants a few weeks ago.
- 22:45Speaker 5: We're clearly a better team. Let's just go out and
- 22:47Speaker 5: play like it's don't turn the ball over, no hard,
- 22:50Speaker 5: heartbreaking interceptions, plays in the end zone, and let's just
- 22:54Speaker 5: go out and execute. You know, if we do that,
- 22:56Speaker 5: we really shouldn't have any issues. You know, I'll be
- 22:58Speaker 5: standing upward. I've got a Wadden and Friday on Friday
- 23:01Speaker 5: morning and Jarn Friday morning, but the Steelers are taken priority.
- 23:05Speaker 2: So yeah, I'll be standing up. Don't you worry about that, Dave.
- 23:09Speaker 4: If you're down in my neck of the woods, make
- 23:10Speaker 4: sure you drop in for a for a cup of
- 23:12Speaker 4: tea curly for twenty about twenty minutes and drata.
- 23:14Speaker 3: You're more than Malcolm to come down if you're if
- 23:16Speaker 3: you're still alive.
- 23:20Speaker 1: It sounds like it's the first nine football part of
- 23:21Speaker 1: Jimmy and leave it at that game picks. It is
- 23:25Speaker 1: a Pittsburgh Statters podcast, but you know we have to
- 23:28Speaker 1: be subjected. This is a two of the football team
- 23:31Speaker 1: of Steelers are on on an edge right now in
- 23:33Speaker 1: a good way. Like lads, I look when you look
- 23:36Speaker 1: at this schedule and you've got Cleveland, Like the lack
- 23:39Speaker 1: of home games between now and December is huge. I
- 23:42Speaker 1: think you go to Cleveland, you beat Cleveland this week,
- 23:45Speaker 1: and you go to Cincinnati and new end of season,
- 23:47Speaker 1: especially what happened after Monday night. That is the way
- 23:50Speaker 1: the next two weeks ago. For me, I have the
- 23:52Speaker 1: Steelers team spoiler for next week. I've just seen Staiers
- 23:55Speaker 1: going ten and two already strait up. They're beating the
- 23:58Speaker 1: Browns thirty. The ten as a big statement from a
- 24:03Speaker 1: team that didn't get all that it's a touchdown last week.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I know, but I believe Jimmy see in Carlingford on
- 24:08Speaker 1: Thursday night. What's your game, Packer.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, look, I do think that we can
- 24:15Speaker 4: fix the issues along the line and give Russell Wilson
- 24:17Speaker 4: a bit more time. Hopefully Mike Tomlin will give his
- 24:19Speaker 4: receivers a bit of a kick and tell them to
- 24:22Speaker 4: break break their roots when necessary and get open for
- 24:25Speaker 4: Russell Wilson.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna be slightly more conservative.
- 24:27Speaker 4: I'm gonna say that we're gonna get four touchdowns and
- 24:30Speaker 4: possibly a few field goals. So I'm gonna go Steelers
- 24:35Speaker 4: thirty four, Browns fifteen, and we're gonna We're gonna ride
- 24:40Speaker 4: the AFC North victory until Christmas Day and then we'll
- 24:43Speaker 4: see what happens. We'll see what happens against the Chiefs.
- 24:46Speaker 4: The Chiefs, the chief are. They're not immortal anymore. You know,
- 24:50Speaker 4: Josh Allen can do it. Russell Wilson can do it
- 24:52Speaker 4: as well, So let's let's keep riding that.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Russell says, as somebody who's going to New York for Christmas,
- 24:58Speaker 1: don't tell my wife that she's not listening it's a
- 25:00Speaker 1: big surprise and maybe going to that game, it could
- 25:03Speaker 1: be my effect if we don't win it, So don't
- 25:05Speaker 1: be We'll just wait to them. Dobogg Are you gonna
- 25:08Speaker 1: take it to the banker? What was the plan this week?
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm making another lodgement this week.
- 25:13Speaker 5: Make a missed out there when you said it last week,
- 25:15Speaker 5: I was like, that took me a bit of time
- 25:17Speaker 5: to actually realize.
- 25:18Speaker 2: What you were saying. But no, yeah, I'm the exact same.
- 25:23Speaker 5: I don't see how the Browns are gonna put it
- 25:25Speaker 5: as much pressure. I mean, even the past rush you
- 25:27Speaker 5: know mas Yard, you know the second best pass rusher
- 25:30Speaker 5: in the league Mayd and could be a difficult one.
- 25:33Speaker 5: I don't know if he's even going to be playing,
- 25:34Speaker 5: to be fair, But uh yeah, I don't see how
- 25:37Speaker 5: this branch team is gonna put much of a fight
- 25:38Speaker 5: up against us. So I'm going thirty Steelers thirty Browns eighteen.
- 25:43Speaker 5: That's a bit generous maybe if you look at it,
- 25:45Speaker 5: but again, I'm not taking anything you likely and nine
- 25:48Speaker 5: and two. Nice mini Bay week as well. When you
- 25:50Speaker 5: play on the Thursday, it'll give you the expectations of
- 25:53Speaker 5: the next Sunday it's a bit of a mini bay.
- 25:54Speaker 1: So especially when the Bengals of a week off.
- 25:57Speaker 5: Oh yeah, perfect, I just completely forgot Brenniant but a head,
- 26:01Speaker 5: no exactly.
- 26:02Speaker 2: That's that's that comes at a good time.
- 26:04Speaker 5: So roll on Escenci in the first week of December
- 26:07Speaker 5: and I'll say, like I always said, you can kick
- 26:09Speaker 5: that to the bank.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Lads.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You can have a week bag week here as well.
- 26:14Speaker 1: We'll be back on Monday and we'll break this down
- 26:17Speaker 1: ahead of the game the following week against the Bengals.
- 26:19Speaker 1: For everyone watching Thursday Night football, the game is on
- 26:22Speaker 1: sky Sports NFL, but it's also on game Pass because
- 26:25Speaker 1: it's not blacked out in that window. It's also on
- 26:27Speaker 1: OTB Sports Radio. We will see you soon. Here we go,
- 26:30Speaker 1: let's move to nine and two, lads,
