- 0:00It's the Urantia Radio podcast. Welcome in.
- 0:03I'm glad you're here. We're going to cover some
- 0:06interesting topics this hour from Paper 134.
- 0:11And this is just prior to when Jesus was about to begin his
- 0:15public ministry, and he happens upon a group in Lake Ermia where
- 0:22there's this sort of religious philosophy school.
- 0:25I'll read a little bit about it and it's in the Caspian Sea
- 0:29region. So from paper 134 we learned
- 0:33that on the way to the Caspian Sea, Jesus had stopped several
- 0:36days. Forrest and recuperation at the
- 0:40old Persian city of Ermia on the western shore of Lake Ermia, one
- 0:45of the largest group of islands. Situated a short distance near
- 0:49Ermia was a large building, a lecture amphitheater dedicated
- 0:53to the spirit of religion. And this structure was really a
- 0:57temple of philosophy of religions.
- 0:59Now this temple of religion had been built by a wealthy merchant
- 1:02citizen of Ermia and his three sons.
- 1:07This man's name was Symboyton and Cy MB OYTON and he is
- 1:14numbered among the ancestors of many diverse peoples.
- 1:17Now the lectures and discussions in this school of religion began
- 1:20at 10:00 every morning of the week.
- 1:23The afternoon session started at 3:00 and the evening debates
- 1:26opened at 8:00. Tim Boynton is one of or one of
- 1:31his three sons always presided at the sessions of teaching and
- 1:36they also had discussion and debate.
- 1:38The founder of this unique school of religions lived and
- 1:41died with ever without ever revealing his own personal
- 1:44religious beliefs. On several occasions Jesus
- 1:49participated in these discussions and before he left
- 1:52Ermia, Symboitan arranged with Jesus to sojourn with them for a
- 1:56few weeks on his return trip and and give 24 lectures on the
- 2:01brotherhood of man and do conduct 12 evening sessions of
- 2:06questions, discussions and debates on his lectures in
- 2:09particular and on the brotherhood of men in general.
- 2:13So Symboitan, who runs the school of philosophy, is so
- 2:17impressed by what Jesus teaches that he asks him, can you give a
- 2:22presentation? And he agrees.
- 2:25So Paper, Paper 134, Section 3, paragraph five.
- 2:29In accordance with this arrangement, Jesus stopped off
- 2:33on the return trip and delivered these lectures.
- 2:36This was the most systematic and formal of all of the Master's
- 2:40teachings on Urantia. Never before or after did he say
- 2:44so much on one subject as was contained in these lectures and
- 2:49discussions on the Brotherhood of Man.
- 2:53In reality, these lectures were on the Kingdom of God and the
- 2:56kingdoms of men. It also mentions that there were
- 3:01more than 30 religions and religious cults who were
- 3:04presented on this faculty of this temple of religious
- 3:07philosophy. These teachers were chosen,
- 3:10supported, and fully accredited by their respective religious
- 3:14groups. At this time there were about 75
- 3:17teachers on the faculty and they lived in cottages, each
- 3:21accommodating about a dozen people.
- 3:24Every new moon these groups were changed by the casting of lots.
- 3:28Intolerance, A contentious spirit, or any other disposition
- 3:32to interfere with the smooth running of the community would
- 3:35bring about the prompt and summary dismissal of the
- 3:38offender teacher. He would be unceremoniously
- 3:42dismissed and his alternative in waiting would be immediately
- 3:46installed in his place. This is this is very advanced
- 3:50when you consider that all of this was going on around 2526 AD
- 3:56and and it doesn't exist anymore.
- 3:58It it didn't last. Symboyton passed away and he was
- 4:02able to maintain a certain order that his sons did not possess
- 4:05and ultimately the school just fell apart.
- 4:08What ended up happening, ironically, is that they had
- 4:13brought in Abner. Abner was, of course, a
- 4:15follower, a disciple of John the Baptist.
- 4:18And this was years later, after Jesus had been crucified and so
- 4:21forth. And Symboitan and his sons
- 4:24actually reached out to Abner, who was in Philadelphia at that
- 4:28time, and said, would you like to run this philosophy of truth
- 4:34at Ermia, the philosophy school? And he did, but he brought in
- 4:39all of his newly anointed Christian fellows.
- 4:42And you know, it's not, it's a bit of a besmirchment really,
- 4:46because the early Christians as they were, because they had had
- 4:50first hand contact with the teachings of Christ, they
- 4:54actually started throwing their weight around and acting like
- 4:57they were the only ones that really had a good religion.
- 5:00And subsequently this school of religious philosophy went away,
- 5:04just crumbled. So the midwayers, the midwayers
- 5:08are the ones who sponsored this fourth section of the Urantia
- 5:12book on the life of teachings of Jesus.
- 5:14And they got into a little discussion, if you will, with
- 5:17the spiritual authorities about how to take these teachings,
- 5:21these 24 lessons, and present them so that they could apply to
- 5:26the modern day. And eventually the ruling
- 5:30Melchizedek, who as we know as Macheventa.
- 5:35I believe so because they're talking about the chairman of
- 5:37the revelatory Commission. And I'm not sure if they're tied
- 5:42to the four and 20 elders. This is also mentioned in
- 5:46Revelation, but also in the Urantia book.
- 5:49So I'm not if Mache Venta is the leading Melchizedek.
- 5:52However, it's sort of irrelevant.
- 5:55The point is that the midway has got the approval to take what
- 5:59Jesus taught and and convert it into modern language.
- 6:03And you say, well, why is that important?
- 6:05Well, if you think about all of the conflicts that are going on
- 6:09in the world today, we don't usually go to Jesus for
- 6:13political advice because he he spoke so little about it.
- 6:18I mean, there are rules that we as politicians or leaders, civic
- 6:22leaders should follow that could be based on the teachings of
- 6:25Jesus. But he never spoke directly or
- 6:27at least publicly about political life.
- 6:31He was not about reforming the the Roman Empire.
- 6:35His duty was spiritual, not material, that we know.
- 6:42But I want to read to you from the same paper from 1:34 because
- 6:47it is relevant to today. So much so.
- 6:51And it's from Section 5. And he's talking about political
- 6:57sovereignty and what needs to happen in order for our world to
- 7:03get to that point where there is true brotherly love.
- 7:09And he writes or speaks or conveys the following as part of
- 7:14his teaching. So these are transcribed the
- 7:18ideas that Jesus taught at this lecture about politics.
- 7:25And he says from Paper 134, war on earth will never end so long
- 7:30as nations cling to the elusive notions of unlimited national
- 7:35sovereignty. There are only 2 levels of
- 7:39relative sovereignty on an inhabited world, the spiritual
- 7:43free will of the individual mortal and the collective
- 7:47sovereignty of mankind as a whole between the level of
- 7:52individual human being and the level of total of all mankind.
- 7:57All groupings and associations are relative, transitory and of
- 8:01value only insofar as they enhance the welfare, well-being
- 8:07and progress of the individual and the planetary grand total,
- 8:11man and mankind. So it is interjecting here.
- 8:16It is a truth that you can measure any society in the world
- 8:20today, whether it's Canada, whether it's Saudi Arabia, using
- 8:25one measurement. What is the quality of life for
- 8:30the average person, the progress of the individual of that
- 8:35country? If you look at a country and
- 8:38there's murder, mayhem, criminality, oppression,
- 8:42whatever it is, that is a measurement.
- 8:45That's the only measurement that you can apply to determine
- 8:49whether it's a good society or a bad society.
- 8:54Jesus goes on to say that religious teachers must always
- 8:59remember that the spiritual sovereignty, sovereignty of God,
- 9:02overrides all intervening and intermediate spiritual
- 9:06loyalties. Someday civil rulers will learn
- 9:10that the Most Highs rule in the kingdoms of men.
- 9:14It is our spiritual nature that has brought us to this point,
- 9:18not necessarily just our intellectual nature.
- 9:22Religious teachers must always remember that the spiritual
- 9:26sovereignty of God is overrides everything else.
- 9:31Your customs, the way that you practice your faith, the name of
- 9:34your religion, it's all focused and centered on the fact and the
- 9:39truth of the sovereignty of one God known by many different
- 9:45names. Jesus says the this rule of the
- 9:48most highs in the kingdoms of men is not for the especial
- 9:52benefit of any especially favored group of mortals.
- 9:56There is no such thing as a chosen people.
- 10:00This is the words of Christ. There are there.
- 10:03You cannot and and we were talking about this weekend.
- 10:06When you think about all the conflicts that are going on,
- 10:09certain people, they, they call themselves the chosen people.
- 10:14According to Christ, we're all, we're all equally respected on
- 10:19the same wavelength when it comes to God.
- 10:21He is no respecter of persons or countries or races of men.
- 10:26Jesus goes on to say that the rule of the most highs, the over
- 10:29controllers of political evolution is a rule designed to
- 10:33foster the greatest good for the greatest number of all men and
- 10:38women and for the greatest length of time.
- 10:41That is the only measurement that you can apply to
- 10:46determining the growth and direction of a people.
- 10:49Sovereignty is power, and it grows by organization.
- 10:53This growth of the organization of political power is good and
- 10:56proper, for it tends to encompass ever widening segments
- 11:00of the total of mankind. But this same growth of
- 11:04political organizations creates a problem in every intervening
- 11:08stage between the initial and the natural organization of
- 11:12political power, the family, and the final consummation of
- 11:18political growth, the government of all mankind by all mankind
- 11:22and for all mankind. Starting out with the parental
- 11:27power in the family group, political sovereignty evolves by
- 11:31organizations as families overlap into consanguous clans,
- 11:37which become united for various reasons into tribal units, super
- 11:43consanguous political groupings, and then by trade, commerce, and
- 11:48conquest. Conquest tribes become unified
- 11:51as a nation, while nations themselves sometimes become
- 11:55unified by empire. He goes on to say that his
- 12:00sovereignty passes from smaller groups to larger groups.
- 12:04Wars are lessened, that is, minor wars between smaller
- 12:09nations are lessened, but the potential for greater wars is
- 12:13increased as the nation's wielding sovereignty become
- 12:16larger and larger. Presently, when all the world
- 12:20has been explored and occupied, when nations are few, strong and
- 12:24powerful, he's talking about today.
- 12:28When these great and supposedly sovereign nations come to touch
- 12:31borders when only ocean separate them, then will the stage be set
- 12:36for major wars worldwide conflicts so-called sovereign
- 12:43nations cannot rub elbows without generating conflicts and
- 12:47eventuating wars. From Paper 134, Section 5,
- 12:53paragraph 8. The difficulty in the evolution
- 12:56of political sovereignty from the family to all mankind lies
- 13:01in the inertia resistance exhibited on all intervening
- 13:05levels. Families have on occasion defied
- 13:09their clan, while clans and tribes have often been
- 13:13subversive of the sovereignty of the territorial state.
- 13:17Each new and forward evolution of political sovereignty is and
- 13:22always has been embarrassed and Hanford by the scaffolding
- 13:27stages of the previous developments in political
- 13:30organization. And this is true because human
- 13:34loyalties, once mobilized, are hard to change.
- 13:38The same loyalty which makes possible the evolution of the
- 13:41tribe makes difficult the evolution of the Super tribe.
- 13:46The territorial state. And the same loyal patriotism
- 13:50which makes possible the evolution of the territorial
- 13:54state vastly complicates the evolutionary development of the
- 13:59government of all mankind. Jesus goes on to say political
- 14:03sovereignty is created out of the surrender of self
- 14:07determinism, first by the individual within the family and
- 14:11then by the families and clans in relation to the tribes and
- 14:15larger groupings. This progressive transfer of
- 14:19self determination from the smaller to ever larger political
- 14:24organizations has generally proceeded unabated in the East
- 14:29since the establishment of the Ming and Moghul dynasties.
- 14:34In the West, it obtained for more than 1000 years right on
- 14:38down to the end of the World War, when an unfortunate
- 14:43retrograde retrograde movement temporarily reversed this normal
- 14:48trend by reestablishing the submerged political sovereignty
- 14:53of numerous small groups in Europe.
- 14:59Now it's interesting that this is pointed out because what do
- 15:02we see happening right now? Well, we have NATO, which is a,
- 15:06a sort of a mutual respect society for all the North
- 15:11Atlantic governments that evolved from World War Two.
- 15:16We have the UN and again the UNI think comes closer to what
- 15:21they're talking about, which is a certain level of, of give
- 15:27upmanship. I'll give you a good example.
- 15:31I asked myself if I was God and I was looking at Earth right
- 15:36now, which of these governments that are in existence right now?
- 15:40Which ones are more like what I think is best for humanity in
- 15:46the most highs? If they're observing how we are
- 15:49on our planet at this time, which countries are they looking
- 15:52at and saying, no, that's that's not good.
- 15:55Yes, that has potential. These, these people over here,
- 15:59they're still early on. They've got a few more
- 16:01centuries, but they've got the potential.
- 16:04I wonder sometimes how our unseen friends view us in this
- 16:07current age. Which of our governments do they
- 16:10favor and which of our governments do they hope will
- 16:14just sort of go away? Now, when they're talking about
- 16:18how political sovereignty works until it doesn't work, what
- 16:25they're talking about is that eventually all of the
- 16:27governments are going to have to acquiesce and and give up to a
- 16:31certain extent, their national sovereignty.
- 16:35That's the only way we're ever going to achieve World Peace.
- 16:40Now, it's not going to happen tomorrow.
- 16:41It's not going to happen in 20 years, but eventually that's
- 16:45what will happen. In paper 34 Section 5 paragraph
- 16:5010, it reads Urantia will not enjoy lasting peace until the
- 16:55so-called sovereign nations intelligently keyword there and
- 16:59fully surrender their sovereign powers into the hands of the
- 17:03brotherhood of men, mankind, government, Internationalism.
- 17:08Not globalism, internationalism, Globalism is different.
- 17:13Globalism is power concentrated into the hands of a few who want
- 17:18to micromanage because they have all the cards, they have all the
- 17:21money, they have all the resources, they have all the
- 17:24power, and they want to stay in power.
- 17:27That's the difference between what they're talking about and
- 17:30what what Jesus was talking about.
- 17:32True internationalism, true representation of the human
- 17:39being, so that the quality of life for everyone rises.
- 17:45They write that internationalism, as in the
- 17:47League of Nations, can never bring permanent peace to
- 17:50mankind. Worldwide confederations of
- 17:52nations will effectively prevent minor wars and acceptably
- 17:56control the smaller nations, but they will not prevent world
- 18:00wars, nor control the 3-4 or five most powerful governments.
- 18:07In the face of real conflicts, one of these world powers
- 18:10ultimately will withdraw from the League and declare war, it
- 18:16reads. You cannot prevent nations going
- 18:19to war as long as they remain infected with the delusional
- 18:23virus of national sovereignty. And that applies to Putin just
- 18:29as much as it applies to Xi Jinping, just as much as it
- 18:33applies to the UN and most likely the US.
- 18:39But there is a minor exception and it it's really actually kind
- 18:43of interesting. We're going to skip ahead a
- 18:46little bit. It says in in paper 134 to use
- 18:49an important 19th and 20th century illustration in using
- 18:53the example of how we can achieve peace and worldwide
- 18:59goodwill. They point out that the course
- 19:03this book was written in 34, so we didn't have 50 states at the
- 19:06time. But the in this context, they
- 19:12say that the 48 states of the American Federal Union have long
- 19:16enjoyed peace. They have no more wars among
- 19:19themselves. Well, so far, well, we had one.
- 19:24They have surrendered their sovereignty to the federal
- 19:27government, and through the arbitrary or arbitraryment of
- 19:31war, they have abandoned all claims to the delusion of self
- 19:36determination. While each state regulates its
- 19:39internal affairs, it is not concerned with Foreign
- 19:43Relations, tariffs, immigration, military affairs, or Interstate
- 19:47commerce. Neither do the individual states
- 19:50concern themselves with matters of citizenship.
- 19:53The 48 states suffer the ravages of war only when the federal
- 19:59government's sovereignty is in some way jeopardized.
- 20:04But they say these 48 states, having abandoned the.
- 20:07Twin sophistries of sovereignty and self determination enjoy
- 20:14Interstate peace and tranquility.
- 20:16So will the nations of our world begin to enjoy peace when they
- 20:21freely surrender their respective sovereignties into
- 20:24the hands of a global government, the sovereignty of
- 20:27the brotherhood of man. In this world state, the small
- 20:30nations will be as powerful as the great, even as the small
- 20:34state of Rhode Island has two senators in the American
- 20:38Congress, just as the same of the populous state of New York
- 20:42or the large state of Texas. Now here we see that the
- 20:47midwayers are taking a little bit of creative license because
- 20:51clearly Jesus didn't say these words.
- 20:53But what Jesus was saying is applicable to this illustration
- 20:59that they put forth to show that eventually national sovereignty
- 21:06must fall to a global government that truly serves mankind and
- 21:11not just, you know, power players from Paper 135.
- 21:16The limited state sovereignty of these 48 states was created by
- 21:19men and four men. And that's what we're
- 21:22celebrating this holiday, right? the Super state or national
- 21:27sovereignty of the American Federal Union was created by the
- 21:31original 13 of these states for their own benefit and for the
- 21:35benefit of men. Sometime the Super national
- 21:39sovereignty of the planetary government of mankind will be
- 21:42similarly created by nations for their own benefit and for the
- 21:46benefit of all men, Paper 135, Section 5, paragraph 16 reads.
- 21:55Citizens are not born for the benefit of governments.
- 21:58Governments are organizations created and devised for the
- 22:02benefit of men. There can be no end to the
- 22:06evolution of political sovereignty short of the
- 22:10appearance of the government of the sovereignty of all men.
- 22:15All other sovereignties are relative in value, intermediate
- 22:19in meaning, and subordinate in status.
- 22:24And then this section concludes with this.
- 22:27With scientific progress, wars are going to become more and
- 22:31more devastating until they become almost racially suicidal.
- 22:37How many world wars must be fought and how many leagues of
- 22:41nations must fail before men will be willing to establish the
- 22:46government of mankind and begin to enjoy the blessings of
- 22:50permanent peace and thrive on the tranquility of goodwill
- 22:55worldwide goodwill among men? And that's only one short.
- 23:01Remember, he gave 24 lessons and he talks about law, liberty, and
- 23:06sovereignty. Again, he reiterates, or at
- 23:10least the midwayers who sponsored this paper reiterate,
- 23:13the 48 American free states live together in peace.
- 23:16They are among the citizens of these 48 states, all of the
- 23:21various nationalities and races that live in ever warring
- 23:25nations of Europe. All these people, they come
- 23:28here. They're not fighting like they
- 23:30are there. The these Americans represent
- 23:34almost all the religions and religious sects and cults of the
- 23:38whole wide world. And yet here in North America
- 23:41they live together in peace so far.
- 23:46And all this is made possible because these 48 states have
- 23:50surrendered their sovereignty and have abandoned all notions
- 23:54of the supposed rights of self determination.
- 24:01They also say that war is not man's great and terrible
- 24:04disease. War is a symptom, a result.
- 24:06The real disease is the virus of national sovereignty.
- 24:12It's hard for me as an American and someone who believes that we
- 24:16have the best country on the planet, for me to conceive of a
- 24:21global government, but not one that is created by the people of
- 24:25the world. Not not these individuals who
- 24:29are doing it for selfish reasons.
- 24:32And they're just looking for more control.
- 24:34So we've got a long way to go, but they're giving us a road
- 24:38map. It is my hope and I think maybe
- 24:41a lot of people in the Arantia book, that smart people will
- 24:45start to read this book and start to gain the wisdom and
- 24:48that that that wisdom will have a positive impact in getting us
- 24:53farther ahead. But my, my worst fear is it it
- 24:57might be too late. It leads to offset some of the
- 25:00pain and suffering that I see just over the horizon if we're
- 25:05not somehow able to manage our global affairs.
- 25:13So it's worth sharing, it's worth talking about, and
- 25:16certainly worth reading. Paper 134, Jesus giving his
- 25:21wisdom on the politics of mankind.
- 25:26I hope you enjoyed it. We'll have more of these kinds
