- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Dearren.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right here on the onelog Up Network. A flood
- 0:09Speaker 2: of emotions today, and firstly, remembering Commissioner Bernie Carrick, who
- 0:14Speaker 2: suddenly passed away at the age of sixty nine. We're
- 0:17Speaker 2: all taken aback, and I know Lou Turmanello Terminello's take.
- 0:22Speaker 2: He was a great friend to nineteen seventy while you
- 0:24Speaker 2: were here and over that really span of three four years.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Here, Alex, thanks for having me. Yes, I did not
- 0:33Speaker 3: know that the Commissioner was ill. That came as a
- 0:39Speaker 3: shock to me when I saw the news last night. Yes,
- 0:43Speaker 3: he was a big part of the A nine seventy
- 0:48Speaker 3: era in the days that in our early days, and
- 0:52Speaker 3: did remotes with us, and he was in studio with us,
- 0:55Speaker 3: and he was just you know, just a First of all,
- 0:58Speaker 3: he was America's cop during one of the tough times
- 1:00Speaker 3: in American reaching American history during nine to eleven. And
- 1:04Speaker 3: he was a great friend to all New Yorkers. So
- 1:08Speaker 3: God rest his soul. It's a sad day for sure, and.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That Jay was America's cop. At me, I remember him
- 1:15Speaker 2: Pataki and Rudy leading us through and boy was he
- 1:18Speaker 2: the right commissioner for that time.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Absolutely, Then the other flood.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Of emotions today is twelve years ago I graduated college,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and that means it's about twelve years ago this August
- 1:29Speaker 2: you and I got to know each other. The anniversary
- 1:31Speaker 2: is the times flying.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Lou Yes, I believe it was August sixth that we
- 1:37Speaker 3: both start on the same day. Little did I know
- 1:41Speaker 3: that Alex was going to not only graduate from college
- 1:47Speaker 3: and congratulations on your anniversary, but achieve what he's achieved
- 1:52Speaker 3: so much in the podcasting world and at the radio station.
- 1:56Speaker 3: You're the heartbeat. You're the heartbeat of Salem, New York,
- 2:00Speaker 3: and you're a big.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Part of the reason why I keep going. You're like
- 2:02Speaker 2: one of the best friends and mentors I've had here.
- 2:04Speaker 3: So thank you for that, Louis, Oh, thank you, thank you.
- 2:08Speaker 3: It is my pleasure. And thank you for being so
- 2:10Speaker 3: kind with those with those with those words. Thank you.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And one of the best things we ever did in
- 2:14Speaker 2: this office is chopping about sports. That's why I created
- 2:17Speaker 2: this podcast, Turmanellos Take because we just get to talk
- 2:19Speaker 2: chop it up every week. So let's do it. Let's
- 2:21Speaker 2: chop it up about what's been going on in the Garden,
- 2:25Speaker 2: big comeback last night, Nicks now pushing the series to Indy.
- 2:29Speaker 2: What were the keys of success, lou.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Key to success? Last night? The Knicks came out with
- 2:35Speaker 3: a purpose. They uh pushed the They really pushed the pace.
- 2:41Speaker 3: And they don't play fast, we know that, but they push.
- 2:44Speaker 3: They pushed their will on Indiana last night. Brunson got
- 2:48Speaker 3: off to a fast start. Obviously, Jalen Brunton is the
- 2:51Speaker 3: best player in the series and uh he wasn't going
- 2:55Speaker 3: to let them lose last night on their home court.
- 2:58Speaker 3: He set the pace. The Knicks took Tyreef Halliburton at
- 3:02Speaker 3: a game, and kudos to the much maligned mckel bridges,
- 3:08Speaker 3: who's been taking a lot of shots from Knicks fans
- 3:12Speaker 3: and the media. But he wherever Halliburton went, he went.
- 3:19Speaker 3: He fought through screens. And Halliburton only took seven shots
- 3:24Speaker 3: in the game, only five in the first half, which
- 3:26Speaker 3: is almost remarkable. After his historic game on in Game
- 3:32Speaker 3: four when he had the thirty two points to fifteen assists,
- 3:34Speaker 3: to twelve rebounds and no turnovers. I don't think that's
- 3:38Speaker 3: ever happened in an NBA playoff game before. But last night,
- 3:43Speaker 3: only seven shots eight points, six assists, no turnovers. So
- 3:48Speaker 3: he's gone two games in a row with no turnovers.
- 3:50Speaker 3: But he didn't impose his will, he didn't make his
- 3:53Speaker 3: presence felt. And if they're going to win Tomorrow night
- 3:56Speaker 3: and Alex Garrett, the pressure Tomorrow night is all on Indiana.
- 4:01Speaker 3: They lose Tomorrow night, I think I think they're done
- 4:06Speaker 3: and I can't see them winning Game seven two years
- 4:10Speaker 3: in a row at the Garden. Can they year? They can?
- 4:15Speaker 2: But this team feels different for the Knicks. I mean
- 4:17Speaker 2: they have a better supporting cast around Brunson than last year.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, I would say so, without without a doubt.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And so it'll be another interesting game la Row Night.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And after this series is over, whoever wins it. Let's
- 4:33Speaker 3: look at the Knicks first. If the Knicks lose this series,
- 4:37Speaker 3: they're going to all summer, when they're on the beach,
- 4:40Speaker 3: when they're on their sun decks, wherever they are, they're
- 4:44Speaker 3: going to say we blew that series when we blew
- 4:47Speaker 3: Game one. The Pacers. If they lose, and we don't
- 4:51Speaker 3: know what's going to happen Tomorrow night or in Game seven,
- 4:53Speaker 3: but if they lose, they're going to say we were
- 4:56Speaker 3: up two games to none, we had our foot on
- 4:58Speaker 3: the Knick's throat and games three and they became very passive,
- 5:03Speaker 3: especially Halliburton. I think Game three's loss was on Halliburton
- 5:08Speaker 3: and coach Carlisle, who I have great respect for as
- 5:11Speaker 3: a coach. He should have been able to coach them
- 5:14Speaker 3: over the finish line with just one or two, just
- 5:16Speaker 3: one or two little adjustments in that game. But Haliburton
- 5:20Speaker 3: has came up empty in game in Game three, and
- 5:24Speaker 3: if they were up three games to none, the Knicks
- 5:26Speaker 3: weren't going to win four in a row. They weren't
- 5:28Speaker 3: going to do two times in Indiana and two times
- 5:30Speaker 3: at the Garden. Now they just have to win one
- 5:33Speaker 3: time in Indiana. When you're down three to one. The
- 5:35Speaker 3: difference being down three to one and three to three
- 5:38Speaker 3: to zero is such a different mental mindset. First of all,
- 5:41Speaker 3: nobody's come back from three to zero in the history
- 5:45Speaker 3: of the NBA playoffs. Yeah, it's happened in the in
- 5:47Speaker 3: the NHL four times. It's happened in baseball once, but
- 5:54Speaker 3: in three to down three to one, we've seen it.
- 5:56Speaker 3: We've seen comebacks in baseball all the time. We've seen
- 6:00Speaker 3: backs in basketball thirteen times, so you know, so it's
- 6:05Speaker 3: different and it's happened in hockey also, so the pressures
- 6:11Speaker 3: on the paces tomorrow night, my friend and Nick's I'm
- 6:13Speaker 3: not saying Nix are playing with house money because if
- 6:15Speaker 3: they lose, their season's over. So the Knicks have to play,
- 6:18Speaker 3: pay attention to their responsibilities on the court. Teams played
- 6:23Speaker 3: different at home and the road. I think we'll know
- 6:26Speaker 3: early on, especially Halliburn, if if he's succumbing to the pressure.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Now remember if you go back to the Cleveland series,
- 6:34Speaker 3: Halliburn had a couple of terrible games, the one game
- 6:37Speaker 3: that they lost, and even he followed up that game
- 6:40Speaker 3: that they lost, they won the next game in Game
- 6:42Speaker 3: four against Cleveland, but he wasn't the main factor at all.
- 6:46Speaker 3: So he's the key, There's no doubt about it. He's
- 6:49Speaker 3: he's the key. And if Bridges could shut him down
- 6:55Speaker 3: like he did last night, and I think when you
- 6:57Speaker 3: shut him down, he becomes frustrated when you try, when
- 7:00Speaker 3: they tru when uh Brunson is having a bad night,
- 7:04Speaker 3: like even the other night when he shot six or eighteen,
- 7:06Speaker 3: he just keeps on going. And I love that in
- 7:09Speaker 3: a player. He doesn't care that. Uh, he's had an
- 7:13Speaker 3: off night. He just keeps on going. That's what That's
- 7:15Speaker 3: what puts Brunson ahead of a guy like Haliburton. Am.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I gives him one leg up over Haliburt.
- 7:21Speaker 3: In other words, he gives him one leg up over Halliburt.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And that's that's that's Ryana Alex all Right.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I will make this comparison because Game five backs against
- 7:31Speaker 2: the Ropes. Uh, I don't know, I do feel like
- 7:35Speaker 2: and you may hate me for this comparison, but I
- 7:37Speaker 2: could not help but make that a vision of Judge
- 7:39Speaker 2: and Brunson the clutchess here. And you know, it just
- 7:43Speaker 2: seems like Brunson's ruling New York right now. Is that
- 7:45Speaker 2: controversial to say?
- 7:48Speaker 3: Well, Brunton has performed much better in the clutch than
- 7:52Speaker 3: Aaron Judge. We've talked about Aaron Judge. I mean, Aaron
- 7:55Speaker 3: Judges had two hundred and sixty two played appearances in
- 7:57Speaker 3: postseason and had a two five postseason batting average. I mean,
- 8:02Speaker 3: and you can't equate. Brunton is nowhere near a two
- 8:06Speaker 3: h five batting average. Brunton has been a star in
- 8:10Speaker 3: the playoffs this year and last year. So you know,
- 8:16Speaker 3: Brunton is ahead of Judge in the postseason. The postseason
- 8:20Speaker 3: performance not even close.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That's what I feel too, and we got to see
- 8:25Speaker 2: him do it again. Now. Is it gonna be up
- 8:26Speaker 2: to Tim to carry this team tomorrow? Or can he
- 8:28Speaker 2: rely on you know, a talents who's still low banged
- 8:31Speaker 2: up and a heart who has been I guess cold,
- 8:34Speaker 2: but he's also been banged up too.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Don't forget Obi well all he has last night he
- 8:40Speaker 3: shot three for fourteen, and then a nob has to
- 8:43Speaker 3: he has to he has to perform better uh than
- 8:46Speaker 3: he did last night offensively, and uh, you know, they
- 8:51Speaker 3: also need Bridges to give them more consistent offense. I
- 8:56Speaker 3: think it was six or twelve last night, and which
- 8:59Speaker 3: is which is fine. Anybody played great defense and that
- 9:02Speaker 3: and you're talking about the kel Bridges who was a
- 9:04Speaker 3: former All uh a All first team defensive player. So
- 9:09Speaker 3: they're gonna need they're gonna need that tomorrow night. And
- 9:12Speaker 3: Netsmith Andrew Netsmith, who's been a thrown in the neck side.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I don't know if it's not how badly his ankle is,
- 9:19Speaker 3: but he shot one for eight last night. They can't
- 9:21Speaker 3: he can't shoot one for eight tomorrow night at home,
- 9:24Speaker 3: or they'll be coming to the garden, and uh, that
- 9:27Speaker 3: might be the end of the Indiana Pacers if they
- 9:30Speaker 3: come back Monday night, if they lose tomorrow night, Alex,
- 9:33Speaker 3: I don't know. I it's you know, anything can happen
- 9:36Speaker 3: in game seven, but I wouldn't like the Pacers chances.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Let's just put it that way.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I keep telling people with a lot of ten times
- 9:43Speaker 2: that shot does not go in by Halliburton in game one.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I mean, what was the magnetic force there? I still
- 9:48Speaker 2: can't figure out the physicals of that shot.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he got, he got, he got the charity hop,
- 9:52Speaker 3: he got the big bounce that went in and forced
- 9:54Speaker 3: it to overtime.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And of course I had to hit the backboard.
- 9:57Speaker 3: It wouldn't have been in that position. Excuse me.
- 10:00Speaker 2: If it had hit the backboard, it wouldn't have counted.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I don't think even hit the backboard.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it hit the back iron, went up in the
- 10:07Speaker 3: air and dropped through. But the Knicks were up by
- 10:11Speaker 3: nine with forty seconds to go, and it shouldn't have
- 10:15Speaker 3: come down to that shot, you know.
- 10:19Speaker 2: So I also feel like, you know, it's amazing this
- 10:22Speaker 2: team has not been concerned being down twenty. They seem
- 10:25Speaker 2: to thrive. I don't know how they get there, but
- 10:27Speaker 2: they can't go down twenty tomorrow. In fact, you would
- 10:29Speaker 2: say they got to shut down the crowd the Pacers
- 10:32Speaker 2: very early on right.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yes, And believe me, the crowd knows. The media knows
- 10:39Speaker 3: that the Pacers have to win Tomorrow night if they
- 10:41Speaker 3: want to get to the final. They know that Tomorrow
- 10:45Speaker 3: Night's Tomorrow Night's the game. Everybody knows it. Coach Carlisle
- 10:49Speaker 3: knows it, the pace of players know it. I even
- 10:52Speaker 3: think the Knicks players know it. The Knicks players know
- 10:55Speaker 3: if they win Tomorrow night that they'll have a great
- 10:59Speaker 3: strangle hold on winning Game seven. That being said, that's
- 11:03Speaker 3: why they play the game. And Tomorrow night could be
- 11:05Speaker 3: a game where brunch And shoots six for eighteen again.
- 11:08Speaker 3: But again, Brunton's so good offensively. If he shout shoots
- 11:12Speaker 3: six for eighteen or six for twenty or seven for
- 11:14Speaker 3: twenty one, he's going to get to the foul line
- 11:16Speaker 3: about ten times so and his mindset is, in my opinion,
- 11:22Speaker 3: so much superior to Halliburton. Haliburton. Instead of running away
- 11:27Speaker 3: like Haliburton does, Brunton's just forges ahead. And you got
- 11:31Speaker 3: to love that in the player.
- 11:33Speaker 2: What are your thoughts on Thibbs. I feel like he's
- 11:36Speaker 2: got to keep it a little more consistent if they
- 11:38Speaker 2: want to win Game six. It feels like he makes
- 11:39Speaker 2: all these changes, scrambles the whole thing around. Sometimes.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Well, he's gone deeper into his bench in this series
- 11:49Speaker 3: than he did in the past. I mean, I never
- 11:52Speaker 3: thought we'd see the lawn Wright or Landry Shammitt, and
- 11:59Speaker 3: you know they they produced. Obviously, Miles McBride, you knew
- 12:02Speaker 3: was going to come off the bench, and you know,
- 12:05Speaker 3: now Heart's coming off the bench. And I guess it
- 12:07Speaker 3: doesn't matter who starts, who plays the majority the majority
- 12:10Speaker 3: of the minutes. I still would have started Heart. But again,
- 12:13Speaker 3: it doesn't really matter because when as good a defender
- 12:17Speaker 3: as Mitchell Robinson is offensively, the Knicks are playing four
- 12:22Speaker 3: against five when he's on the court. I mean, besides
- 12:26Speaker 3: wide open dunks, he can't really do anything offensively, but
- 12:32Speaker 3: he has been He has made an input and an
- 12:35Speaker 3: impact on this series. I mean, I can't really question
- 12:40Speaker 3: Thibodeau at all. You know, in this series, with the
- 12:46Speaker 3: exception he kept Karl Anthony Towns. I know because in
- 12:49Speaker 3: Game two, he kept him on the bench because of
- 12:52Speaker 3: his defensive in effectiveness, but still he got put the
- 12:56Speaker 3: ball in the basket. He still got a score. And
- 12:58Speaker 3: Karl Anthony Towns would score as it as anybody in
- 13:01Speaker 3: the NBA, whether it's taking the shot from way beyond
- 13:04Speaker 3: a three point line, or putting it on the floor
- 13:07Speaker 3: and getting to the rim, or getting fouled, and he's
- 13:10Speaker 3: he's a terrific foul shooter. So but I if anybody,
- 13:15Speaker 3: if the Knicks lose tomorrow night or lose Game seven
- 13:17Speaker 3: and they start calling out Timbs, that.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Would be wrong. I think that's not wrong.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, So we'll see. But the winner of this
- 13:30Speaker 3: series is going to play the Oklahoma City Thunder, easily
- 13:33Speaker 3: the best team and the best roster in the NBA,
- 13:36Speaker 3: with all kinds of talent and obviously in Shakes, Alexander
- 13:43Speaker 3: the MVP, who is an incredible all round player, Ken
- 13:48Speaker 3: Holmgren who blocked shots, he can hit the three. He
- 13:54Speaker 3: doesn't look to score, but he's he's just terrific. As
- 13:59Speaker 3: they are a terrific defensive team. Lou dort All First
- 14:03Speaker 3: Team NBA Defense, Alex Caruso a great defensive player. They're
- 14:08Speaker 3: going to be tough to beat four out of seven.
- 14:10Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say it can't happen if the Pacers
- 14:13Speaker 3: or Knicks play them, but it would be. It would
- 14:18Speaker 3: be whoever whoever wins this series this next place. The
- 14:21Speaker 3: series is going to be huge underdogs, I think on
- 14:26Speaker 3: all the and all the betting books and in Vegas,
- 14:29Speaker 3: I mean, big time underdogs.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I think you're right, especially considering the fact that you know,
- 14:33Speaker 2: they blew out Memphis in Game one by like twenty
- 14:36Speaker 2: points in the you know, in the in the first half,
- 14:38Speaker 2: in the first quarter, that the scoring there was unbelievable.
- 14:41Speaker 2: But yeah, me, now I want to switch gears real
- 14:44Speaker 2: quick because I asked you a year ago, Louis, I
- 14:47Speaker 2: asked you about Conor McDavid. Can we see him get
- 14:50Speaker 2: back here? Well, he's back here, He's back in the final.
- 14:53Speaker 2: A year later.
- 14:55Speaker 3: He sure is, Alex, He's sure is. And I watched
- 14:59Speaker 3: that series closely, and Dallas is very fortunate that they
- 15:04Speaker 3: didn't get swept Edmonton, with the exception of the third
- 15:08Speaker 3: period where they committed some penalties and Dallas cashed in
- 15:12Speaker 3: and scored those three power play goals to tie up
- 15:15Speaker 3: the series set at one to one. Edmonton at outplayed
- 15:20Speaker 3: not Alex They outplayed them by miles over the five games.
- 15:24Speaker 3: And we talked about this last week and I'm going
- 15:29Speaker 3: to say it again. The difference maker on the Edmonton Oilers. Yes,
- 15:34Speaker 3: it's they have Conor McDavid. Yes they have Leon dry Seidel,
- 15:38Speaker 3: Yes they have Evan Bouchard. But the difference maker is
- 15:44Speaker 3: Chris Knobloch, the head coach. Remember when when he came
- 15:48Speaker 3: in last year from the Hartford the ould Pack of
- 15:50Speaker 3: the American Hockey League. He took over team that was
- 15:53Speaker 3: three twelve and one and pretty quickly got them to
- 15:58Speaker 3: concentrate on defense more and they got to the Stanley
- 16:01Speaker 3: Cup Final. Uh, he got they were winning games that
- 16:04Speaker 3: normally they they they would never win. But non block
- 16:10Speaker 3: has done has been the number one difference maker for
- 16:13Speaker 3: the Oilers. He has totally changed the way the Oilers play.
- 16:17Speaker 3: They have structure. No more run and gun with the
- 16:20Speaker 3: Oilers offensively, if we outscore you, we win and we'll
- 16:24Speaker 3: we'll keep it that way. They they had no regard
- 16:29Speaker 3: for defense. Uh now they have. Now they defend with
- 16:33Speaker 3: a with a one goal third period lead. Uh, they
- 16:36Speaker 3: play with defensive structure in their own end. They frustrate
- 16:40Speaker 3: their opponents really playing paying attention to defensive detail and
- 16:46Speaker 3: that helps their their goalfenders who are so so they're
- 16:49Speaker 3: not They're not getting a lot of high level shots
- 16:52Speaker 3: against them, whether it's a Calvin Prickett or Stuart Skinner,
- 16:57Speaker 3: who has you know, done a great job for them,
- 17:02Speaker 3: alex you know me and Florida Panthers are a fantastic team.
- 17:09Speaker 3: They smother you of getting Brad Marshall at a trade
- 17:12Speaker 3: deadline was brilliant. They have the better goaltender in Sergey
- 17:17Speaker 3: get Brabrowski. Bbrowski is just a tremendous future Hall of
- 17:21Speaker 3: Fame goaltender. Matthew kuchuk As I've told you a thousand
- 17:24Speaker 3: times to play for my team any day. Alexander Barkov,
- 17:30Speaker 3: just a tremendous all around center. Made a fantastic play
- 17:33Speaker 3: in the clinching game to help win that game. Card
- 17:37Speaker 3: of the Hagee. They have great, great players, but alex
- 17:41Speaker 3: this sometimes it's just a team's time, and I think
- 17:46Speaker 3: this might be the Edmonton Oilers time. These are the
- 17:49Speaker 3: two best teams in the league, and the Oilers have
- 17:53Speaker 3: won twelve out of the fourteen games Alex forget, don't forget.
- 17:56Speaker 3: In game one they were down two oh to the Kings,
- 17:59Speaker 3: and I thought the Kings were going to beat him
- 18:01Speaker 3: when they were down to zero and they come back.
- 18:03Speaker 3: The Oilers didn't won the next tour, and uh, I
- 18:09Speaker 3: think I think this could be the Oilers time, Alex,
- 18:12Speaker 3: and and that.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Would be a nice little foreshadow, because you know, when
- 18:16Speaker 2: the Oilers were winning, the Rangers were winning a couple
- 18:18Speaker 2: of years later, so you never know. Maybe it's all
- 18:20Speaker 2: bubbling back up to thirty something years ago. But I
- 18:25Speaker 2: would love to I don't know. I've advocating that I'd
- 18:27Speaker 2: loved to see Connor win the ring and win the Cup.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And I think any Ranger fan would want to see that,
- 18:32Speaker 2: especially because we have that history with Chris Nablock. I mean,
- 18:35Speaker 2: people forget he helped the wolf Pack win a championship
- 18:38Speaker 2: in the AHL.
- 18:41Speaker 3: But Ranger fans should be saying, we hire all these
- 18:45Speaker 3: high profive coaches, Gordon Gallant, Pete la Volette, now Mike Sullivan,
- 18:51Speaker 3: and we had Chris Knoblock right under our nose and
- 18:53Speaker 3: we let him go.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Trust me. If Ranger fans are saying that too.
- 18:59Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying range of that's what Ranger fans
- 19:01Speaker 3: should be saying. They should be saying that absolutely.
- 19:05Speaker 2: So I'll have to see and I don't know. I
- 19:07Speaker 2: feel like Skinner is crisper this year in net than
- 19:11Speaker 2: he was last year.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Well again, he's facing less high level shots than he
- 19:16Speaker 3: did last year. And I agree with you, he looks
- 19:18Speaker 3: like a different goaltender. But that's a product of the
- 19:22Speaker 3: new Edmonton Oilers system. I mean, in the third period
- 19:26Speaker 3: last night, there were really no high level scoring chances
- 19:31Speaker 3: after they made it four to three, you know, in
- 19:34Speaker 3: the first ninety seconds of the third period. They really
- 19:38Speaker 3: shut down the Oilers after that. And you know, Conor McDavid,
- 19:46Speaker 3: I just can't see conomiccdavid in dry Sattle you're talking about.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I mean, they have two or the top five players
- 19:51Speaker 3: in the league offensively.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and this like the Leaf's time, is the Oilers time,
- 19:55Speaker 2: because that aial will not last forever.
- 19:59Speaker 3: No, No, there's you know, there's talk about that that
- 20:04Speaker 3: they're not going to resign monitor or they are sign
- 20:06Speaker 3: and trade for manor are they're not going to signed
- 20:10Speaker 3: to Faris in Toronto? You know, So so this is
- 20:12Speaker 3: the and again they're come and it's in all sports,
- 20:15Speaker 3: whether it's football, whether it's basketball, baseball, hockey. This could
- 20:21Speaker 3: be their time, Edmonton's time that to overcome all that frustration.
- 20:27Speaker 3: And remember the Oilers frustration is not like the Leafs
- 20:30Speaker 3: frustration because the Leafs had really had chances, they didn't.
- 20:38Speaker 3: They only won two playoffs series. I know Edmonton's gone farther,
- 20:42Speaker 3: but it was maybe because it's it's Toronto, the Toronto
- 20:45Speaker 3: media market that I they had a number one team
- 20:48Speaker 3: in Canada as far as attention from fans and media,
- 20:51Speaker 3: But it seems like Toronto's frustration was greater than Edmonton's frustration,
- 20:56Speaker 3: probably because Edmonton in the playoffs and any anytime there
- 21:00Speaker 3: was key spots, their defense let them down as much
- 21:03Speaker 3: as some of their offensive plays. Now they're going to
- 21:06Speaker 3: play in the finals without Zach Hyman doesn't look like
- 21:09Speaker 3: he's coming back. He has some kind of upper body
- 21:11Speaker 3: injury he was operate on earlier this week, so it
- 21:15Speaker 3: looks like he's going to miss the final unless it
- 21:19Speaker 3: goes maybe six or seven. Of course, we don't know
- 21:22Speaker 3: how badly he's injured because in the NHL they never
- 21:25Speaker 3: tell us how badly these guys are injured. But Alex,
- 21:30Speaker 3: I really like Edmonton's chances in what should be a
- 21:34Speaker 3: fantastic series between two fantastic teams.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And here's another series that had the potential goes seven again, right.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yes, and no question, this could be seven. All right.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I gotta touch on this before I let you go,
- 21:47Speaker 2: because we're gonna have a more in depth conversation once
- 21:50Speaker 2: the series. We'll see where the Knick series goes, of course,
- 21:54Speaker 2: but it is Yankees Dodgers, and I do feel the
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yanks have a bit of an edge. You know, they
- 21:59Speaker 2: just swept the Angels. They've been on fire a little,
- 22:02Speaker 2: but even with their one nothing wins, they've been doing
- 22:05Speaker 2: the gritty work. They've been winning the gritty games that
- 22:07Speaker 2: will help them in Dodger Town. I mean, this rematch
- 22:10Speaker 2: is going to be hyped up and work the hype.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, Obviously it's a it's a rematch from last
- 22:17Speaker 3: year's World Series. And you know, obviously, after Freddie Freeman
- 22:23Speaker 3: turned the series around with that Grand Slam, if the
- 22:25Speaker 3: Yankees had won that game, the whole series could have
- 22:27Speaker 3: been different. But that that won a Grand Slam, you know,
- 22:32Speaker 3: did the Yankees in and change the outlook of the
- 22:35Speaker 3: whole series, and the Yankees had that on their mind
- 22:38Speaker 3: for sure. Now, if the Yankees sweep them, what does
- 22:42Speaker 3: it mean? Doesn't mean as far as last October, it
- 22:45Speaker 3: means nothing. Just means the Yankees won three more games
- 22:48Speaker 3: in the division that they've that they've already clinched. Nobody's
- 22:52Speaker 3: catching them. The Yankees knew three weeks ago, that four
- 22:55Speaker 3: weeks ago, five weeks ago, that nobody's going to catch
- 22:58Speaker 3: them to win the division. And the Yankees have played
- 23:02Speaker 3: very well, They've pitched very well, They've hidden in a
- 23:06Speaker 3: lot of clutch situations. Bellain just hitting now. Goldschmidt, who
- 23:11Speaker 3: I didn't think was washed up at all, is proving
- 23:14Speaker 3: to be even better than that. And the Yankees are
- 23:19Speaker 3: in very good shape. They're in there, they're in very
- 23:22Speaker 3: for May thirtieth, they're in They're in very good shape.
- 23:26Speaker 3: And the only thing about with this situation is, Okay,
- 23:30Speaker 3: this is what people who have cable TV. All right,
- 23:33Speaker 3: we pay our case, we pay our cable bill, we
- 23:36Speaker 3: pay our cable bill, and we pay so much. We
- 23:39Speaker 3: get charged so much for s n Y, we get
- 23:41Speaker 3: charged so much for Yes. Last week, the Mets played
- 23:43Speaker 3: the Dodgers Friday, night Apple TV, and I don't have
- 23:47Speaker 3: Apple TV, and I wasn't going to get it, you know,
- 23:49Speaker 3: for the three months free trial to watch game one
- 23:55Speaker 3: Saturday night it was on Fox. Sunday night, it was
- 23:58Speaker 3: on ESPN, And the Yankees have the same scenario this week,
- 24:02Speaker 3: Apple TV to night, Fox Tomorrow night, ESPN on Sunday night.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I mean, if I'm if I'm in one of these
- 24:09Speaker 3: regional sports networks, and I know the future of re
- 24:12Speaker 3: regional sports networks are going to change, I wouldn't be
- 24:15Speaker 3: very happy. And if I'm a fan paying that monthly
- 24:18Speaker 3: freight and it's not it's included in the charge, you know,
- 24:22Speaker 3: that sports package that you pay for. You know, come on,
- 24:26Speaker 3: we're gonna get We're gonna get a break on the
- 24:28Speaker 3: next bill. We're not. It's just just food for thought,
- 24:32Speaker 3: just to bring that to everybody's attention, you know.
- 24:36Speaker 2: So well, then y MLB collaboration is interesting, but it's expensive.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, I mean, and now it'sist. Unfortunately, this
- 24:46Speaker 3: is the way of the future. But the thing is,
- 24:48Speaker 3: Gary Keith and Ron didn't do one Dodger a met
- 24:51Speaker 3: game on SNY from City Field. They were off the
- 24:55Speaker 3: whole weekend you know, and ironically, after the Yankees leave
- 25:05Speaker 3: Dodger State in Mexico went for four games against them,
- 25:07Speaker 3: and you know, I beat him two out of three
- 25:09Speaker 3: last last weekend. And but the Dodgers are tough, and
- 25:13Speaker 3: I and I and Alex, I think the Dodgers are
- 25:16Speaker 3: playing a little possum. I really do. I think they're
- 25:19Speaker 3: playing a little possum. They're gliding through the season. Yes,
- 25:21Speaker 3: they play in a tough division.
- 25:24Speaker 2: But well they glided through Game four of the World
- 25:27Speaker 2: Series last year. And then remember how you know, you
- 25:29Speaker 2: could talk about all the errors that the Eggs committed
- 25:31Speaker 2: in that fifth inning, but then Roberts really tighted up
- 25:34Speaker 2: the bullpen the rest of that game.
- 25:36Speaker 3: You know he did. I mean, and he that first
- 25:39Speaker 3: of all, he had the advantage that he was, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 3: he was up three games to one. And yeah, I
- 25:46Speaker 3: think the Dodgers know exactly what they're doing. I mean,
- 25:48Speaker 3: I mean, I got Glass now, Tyler Glassnew's on the
- 25:51Speaker 3: table list, and you know, and Snell is not going
- 25:54Speaker 3: to come back for I think it like another month.
- 25:56Speaker 3: He's got and Snell and Glass now I've just been
- 25:59Speaker 3: fragile Major leaguers. But the Dodgers can handle fragile Major leaguers.
- 26:06Speaker 3: As far as a competitive standpoint and as far as
- 26:10Speaker 3: a financial standpoint, they're paying hm, what are they playing
- 26:12Speaker 3: glass now? Thirty million, thirty five million? What are they
- 26:15Speaker 3: getting out of them? How many innings are they getting
- 26:17Speaker 3: out of him over the two years that he's been there.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I mean, it's crazy.
- 26:21Speaker 2: You know, the Dodgers have the arms coming back, and
- 26:23Speaker 2: of course they have the lineup. It's it's just amazing. Now,
- 26:27Speaker 2: a couple of other storylines I wanted to get your
- 26:29Speaker 2: thoughts on in the NL East actually is well, so
- 26:33Speaker 2: no rebound from his funky seems to be in And
- 26:36Speaker 2: also a Kunya Junior what a return for him?
- 26:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's been impressive. His cats is a
- 26:46Speaker 3: second D operation that he's had, second N injury.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And.
- 26:52Speaker 3: It's quite impressive. It was quite impressive comeback for him.
- 26:59Speaker 3: He's hitting the ball with authority. His bat speed. I
- 27:02Speaker 3: watched the game the other day. They when they're playing
- 27:04Speaker 3: the fields, and his bat speed looks like he hasn't
- 27:06Speaker 3: missed a beat, unlike Soto, who's that speed is not
- 27:11Speaker 3: to where it's been his in his past years. So again,
- 27:17Speaker 3: I don't know if this is just something he's going
- 27:19Speaker 3: through or not. I'm sure. Obviously they're working with him.
- 27:23Speaker 3: He's feeling the pressure, there's no question about it. But
- 27:27Speaker 3: the thing is the metsa still winning. That's the only
- 27:29Speaker 3: good thing. And the Mets hitting woes are not only
- 27:32Speaker 3: with Juan Soto. They've hit inconsistently. I mean they really have,
- 27:38Speaker 3: so that that's something that we have to take a
- 27:40Speaker 3: look at as we go through the rest of the season. Obviously,
- 27:45Speaker 3: they got to get Juan Soto, being as close to
- 27:47Speaker 3: one Soto as he can be. Ironically, the year that
- 27:50Speaker 3: they got trade at the deadline with two and a
- 27:52Speaker 3: half years to go on his contract from Washington to
- 27:56Speaker 3: San Diego combined that year he batted around. So it's
- 28:01Speaker 3: happened before. It just is different now because he's in
- 28:05Speaker 3: New York and he's the richest player ever in North
- 28:10Speaker 3: American sports, so and that carries a burden, and that's
- 28:15Speaker 3: part of being great. How you handle that burden. So far,
- 28:20Speaker 3: I don't know if that's the reason why he's gone
- 28:22Speaker 3: off to a bad start, but something to keep an
- 28:26Speaker 3: eye on.
- 28:27Speaker 1: All right.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Mentioning emotional days by the way, as we wrap up here,
- 28:31Speaker 2: I gotta give it a shout out. Do you know, Lou,
- 28:34Speaker 2: you might remember when I was young and I used
- 28:36Speaker 2: to compete in the Games for physically challenge while at
- 28:39Speaker 2: nine to seventy, I tink a day. Often still compete
- 28:41Speaker 2: until I was twenty one or so and go back
- 28:44Speaker 2: and volunteer. I'm sorry you remember those days. Well, it's
- 28:48Speaker 2: their fortieth year, thirty ninth year of games, but fortieth
- 28:51Speaker 2: year overall. And got to be at the opening ceremony
- 28:54Speaker 2: today to watch him open up the fortieth year of
- 28:58Speaker 2: the NASA County Victory Challenge formerly the Empires eight Games
- 29:00Speaker 2: Physically Challenged and UH, very honored to be out there
- 29:04Speaker 2: and always special because that's like a family.
- 29:06Speaker 3: To me, right and it's it is special. And uh,
- 29:11Speaker 3: I know you were telling me about about your your coach,
- 29:13Speaker 3: and that's a great that's a great lady. She's your
- 29:17Speaker 3: track and field coach. And all these people who who
- 29:20Speaker 3: coach and give time to UH support the handicap and
- 29:25Speaker 3: get them involved in any kind of athletic activity, UH
- 29:31Speaker 3: are should be commended. They really these people you talk about, UH,
- 29:36Speaker 3: just wonderful people. That's that's what that's that's what they are.
- 29:40Speaker 3: You can't you can't give them enough accolades.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to compile my interviews over the last
- 29:46Speaker 2: few years with some of these great people, including the
- 29:48Speaker 2: founder of the game, Suegour and Ryan and uh, maybe
- 29:52Speaker 2: whip up a podcast about that, because that deserves its
- 29:54Speaker 2: own recognition.
- 29:56Speaker 3: There no question about your one hundred percent correct on.
- 30:00Speaker 2: This Terminelo's take. Thanks for a brief breakdown. We're gonna
- 30:03Speaker 2: get into it more as the week goes on, but
- 30:05Speaker 2: I can't believe we're in the end of May early June.
- 30:08Speaker 2: And hey, the Knicks could be playing basketball in June
- 30:11Speaker 2: if things fall right tomorrow.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I can get right and I think they have
- 30:17Speaker 3: as good a chance as anybody.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And of course thank you to Luke Turmanella for his take.
- 30:21Speaker 2: We don't often do this, but this is a back
- 30:23Speaker 2: to back episode because on a night when the Yanks
- 30:28Speaker 2: take on the Dodgers. I was so honored that Joan
- 30:31Speaker 2: Pelzer filling in fornight on Arthur Idylla Power Hour tonight,
- 30:36Speaker 2: welcome me on the airways to talk with Dom Scala.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yes you've heard Tom on this podcast before and on
- 30:41Speaker 2: the author Idolla Power Hour. Well, we chopped it up
- 30:44Speaker 2: a little bit about what to expect tonight at Chavez
- 30:47Speaker 2: Ravine Dodgers Stadium. Yankees Dodgers the rematch. What will happen? Well, Dom,
- 30:54Speaker 2: Joan and I get into it on AM nine seventy
- 30:57Speaker 2: the answer Earlier tonight.
- 30:59Speaker 4: We're back to the Arthur Idylla Power Hour with New
- 31:02Speaker 4: York City's preeminent trial attorney and quintessential New Yorker attorney,
- 31:06Speaker 4: Arthur Idalla.
- 31:11Speaker 5: Oh, this is fun, Alex.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Because the Yanks are going back to La and the
- 31:16Speaker 2: Knicks are going back to Indiana, and we got to
- 31:19Speaker 2: stand our ground if we're New York.
- 31:20Speaker 5: You know, I like this.
- 31:22Speaker 6: Keep playing this song, Alex. All right, hopefully we'll pump
- 31:26Speaker 6: people up. I was a little bit pumped up last night.
- 31:29Speaker 6: I did go to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It
- 31:33Speaker 6: did not rain, and I got to see Beyonce live,
- 31:36Speaker 6: which was really really cool, very very different and creative.
- 31:41Speaker 5: She run the world? Do you bet she was? She
- 31:44Speaker 5: was really dynamic.
- 31:45Speaker 6: And you want to know something I I kind of
- 31:47Speaker 6: judged saying, how is she country? And I know many
- 31:51Speaker 6: people judged she was like something was a video she
- 31:54Speaker 6: had done was taken down by the Country Music Awards
- 31:57Speaker 6: or something like that. There was a whole big controversy
- 32:01Speaker 6: when her whole cowboy Carter and all that came out.
- 32:03Speaker 6: But let me tell you, she did her research, and
- 32:06Speaker 6: I did my research. She was actually born in Texas.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Did you even know that that I did not know?
- 32:14Speaker 6: Well, not only was she born in Texas, but by
- 32:16Speaker 6: the way, she actually avoided doing interviews when she was
- 32:21Speaker 6: first doing music because she had an accent the twang
- 32:25Speaker 6: and she didn't want to be judged in the media
- 32:28Speaker 6: about that.
- 32:29Speaker 5: And when she decided to go into this.
- 32:31Speaker 6: Country route, she did her homework and researched how country
- 32:37Speaker 6: music came about, and some of country music as we
- 32:40Speaker 6: know it is not.
- 32:41Speaker 5: Really what it was and how it formed, you know
- 32:45Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 32:46Speaker 6: So it's you know, we gotta sometimes hold judgment until
- 32:50Speaker 6: we do all our homework and all our research.
- 32:52Speaker 5: And you know who I learned that from.
- 32:54Speaker 6: Who's that someone who is going to be our guest
- 32:57Speaker 6: host on Monday, mister Frank Morano.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Research is key.
- 33:02Speaker 6: You got to know, you got to do your research,
- 33:05Speaker 6: and you got to know what you're talking about before
- 33:07Speaker 6: you talk about it.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Well, and I love that he does live research for
- 33:10Speaker 2: the show. He texts you and Arthur through the show.
- 33:12Speaker 6: It's funny he does sometimes his fingers are faster than mine,
- 33:14Speaker 6: and Arthur kind of puts us in competition, who can
- 33:16Speaker 6: get the answer?
- 33:17Speaker 2: Quicker got love some competition exactly.
- 33:21Speaker 5: All right.
- 33:21Speaker 6: So you opened up with talk about the Yankee So
- 33:24Speaker 6: last year there was a real controversy Yankees against Dodgers.
- 33:28Speaker 6: People are still sore about the Dodgers leaving New York
- 33:32Speaker 6: to begin with, and Yankees lost to the Dodgers. So
- 33:35Speaker 6: this weekend they're in LA. They're gonna have a head
- 33:38Speaker 6: to head. It's gonna be two powerhouse teams, Dodgers Yankees, Los.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Angeles, New York.
- 33:43Speaker 6: They're gonna meet for the first time since the World Series.
- 33:47Speaker 5: So who do we talk to about this?
- 33:50Speaker 6: None other than our resonance scholar of baseball, mister Dom Scala,
- 33:54Speaker 6: baseball player, coach and scout, New York Yankee World Championship
- 34:00Speaker 6: Ship team nineteen seventy eight.
- 34:03Speaker 5: And it's Dom Scala.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Hi, how are you? I'll tell you what you did
- 34:08Speaker 1: your research on Beyonce. That's pretty damn good.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Thank you, Thank you. Jan I actually really enjoyed it
- 34:15Speaker 5: last night too.
- 34:16Speaker 1: That's great. And I do all my research too, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 1: when we talk and I give you some things that
- 34:21Speaker 1: we can talk about, I try to do research on
- 34:24Speaker 1: what's happening lately, you know, in the major leagues. And
- 34:27Speaker 1: of course tonight's contest between and the series between the
- 34:32Speaker 1: Yankees and Dodgers. There's nothing better playing in Chavez Ravine,
- 34:38Speaker 1: which what I called it back in the day. And
- 34:41Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, It's going to be a great,
- 34:44Speaker 1: great series. I mean, the Yankees, you know, and the
- 34:47Speaker 1: Dodgers are pretty pretty evenly matched as far as offensively
- 34:53Speaker 1: is concerned. However, and this is something that we may
- 34:57Speaker 1: not have we may not have I thought about this
- 35:02Speaker 1: or predicted this. The Yankees actually have the edge in
- 35:06Speaker 1: pitching right now. Okay, the Yankees earned run average is
- 35:12Speaker 1: over one and a half points better than the Dodgers
- 35:17Speaker 1: is at this point during the year. And the Yankees
- 35:20Speaker 1: are batting average against and walked per game are all
- 35:25Speaker 1: are all below first or second in the league. It's unbelievable.
- 35:32Speaker 1: You know, Max Freed and Rodina doing great. Magie Again,
- 35:35Speaker 1: we talked about this. Imagine if they had Cole here
- 35:38Speaker 1: this this this series, you.
- 35:40Speaker 5: Know, wow, that would be interesting.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a very interesting you know, listen,
- 35:47Speaker 1: you know the Dodgers, you know they have Moxie and
- 35:51Speaker 1: the Dodgers they played together as a team. So I
- 35:55Speaker 1: gotta give the edge to the Dodgers in that capacity.
- 35:58Speaker 1: But but I think the Yankees are gonna come out
- 36:02Speaker 1: on top. As you know, the Yankees right now are
- 36:05Speaker 1: sixteen out of their last twenty games they have won,
- 36:09Speaker 1: and the Dodgers are only twelve and thirteen in their
- 36:13Speaker 1: last twenty type games. So the Yankees are hot, the
- 36:17Speaker 1: Dodgers are not. So I'm hoping, Alex, what are your doors?
- 36:20Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 36:21Speaker 3: Buddy?
- 36:21Speaker 2: Well, when I see that Max Freed is opening up
- 36:24Speaker 2: with a seven to zero record tonight, I am gonna
- 36:27Speaker 2: boldly say this, it might be a sweep for the Yankees.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I just feel that momentum dom Call me crazy, but
- 36:33Speaker 2: I feel like the Yanks. If you can win a
- 36:35Speaker 2: one nothing game against the Angels like they did the
- 36:37Speaker 2: other night, you can maybe go into La Dodger Town
- 36:40Speaker 2: and sweep the Dodgers. And if I don't, I'll eat
- 36:42Speaker 2: my crow on Monday. But for now, I'm saying sweep.
- 36:46Speaker 1: I like that. I like that. I'll take two out
- 36:49Speaker 1: of three because they're because the Dodgers are home. I
- 36:53Speaker 1: think they gotta win one. But I'm gonna say the
- 36:55Speaker 1: Yankees are gonna take at least two out of three
- 36:58Speaker 1: win another series. That'll be the two out of three
- 37:01Speaker 1: series that they have won in the last eight in
- 37:05Speaker 1: the last eight series. So I think. I think the
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yankees are playing very good baseball, but they got to
- 37:13Speaker 1: stay away from o Tani in big spots. I think
- 37:16Speaker 1: although last year they handled them in the World Series.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Am I right out?
- 37:19Speaker 2: No, You're not wrong. Now, let me ask you this though,
- 37:22Speaker 2: Why is there such a different feeling We had you
- 37:24Speaker 2: on the whole postseason run and it didn't feel this
- 37:26Speaker 2: electric going into the World Series, didn't feel as hopeful
- 37:29Speaker 2: as this regular season series. Am I right?
- 37:32Speaker 1: Well? I think I think many Yankee fans are feeling
- 37:36Speaker 1: the you know, the electricity because they're playing better baseball
- 37:39Speaker 1: than they did back then, even though they were in
- 37:41Speaker 1: the World Series. They're playing very good baseball, and you know,
- 37:46Speaker 1: this is a this is a series they listen. Man.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I remember back in the day when I was there,
- 37:51Speaker 1: Yankees and Dodgers twice in the World Series. They beat
- 37:54Speaker 1: us once, we beat them once. It's just a great,
- 37:59Speaker 1: great right bull ring Yankees.
- 38:01Speaker 6: Dodgers absolutely, so wait, they're going to be in LA for.
- 38:06Speaker 5: How many games?
- 38:07Speaker 1: Three games?
- 38:08Speaker 6: Three games, and then they come back to New York
- 38:12Speaker 6: and they play in New York next week. Yes, do
- 38:16Speaker 6: they normally do better when they're away or when they're home.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Well, their home record right now is better than their
- 38:25Speaker 1: away record, but they're definitely over five hundred away also,
- 38:30Speaker 1: so they're playing good baseball. I mean, they're they're up
- 38:33Speaker 1: seven game, seven games up Alex in the last.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I long to that now, Yeah, you're right, and they're
- 38:38Speaker 2: six and a half of total seven in the lost columns,
- 38:40Speaker 2: so they're they're really you gotta look.
- 38:42Speaker 1: At the lost column because you can't make those games up,
- 38:46Speaker 1: and that's a big thing right now. Who would have
- 38:49Speaker 1: thought they'd be seven games up there at this point
- 38:52Speaker 1: in the season with no coal. But Rodin has been
- 38:55Speaker 1: very very good, Warren has been very very good, Schmid
- 39:00Speaker 1: has been very very good. And the kid Ya Borrow
- 39:03Speaker 1: has given them good stoughts. He's going to be pitching
- 39:05Speaker 1: this series, the kid Yard Borrow Lusty.
- 39:07Speaker 2: You know, Jony Dom has caught so many legends, but
- 39:11Speaker 2: I got to ask about the emotional say of these pitchers,
- 39:13Speaker 2: because we know ro Don can get emotional on the mound.
- 39:15Speaker 2: If you were a catcher in this era with these guys,
- 39:18Speaker 2: what would you tell them? What would you tell Rodald
- 39:20Speaker 2: when he gets in trouble, Hey, just calm it down
- 39:22Speaker 2: a little bit, right.
- 39:23Speaker 1: And I'm sure that Wells does that. I'm sure that
- 39:26Speaker 1: Wells does that. And I'm going to tell you something.
- 39:29Speaker 1: He's been much better the last I don't know, seven games.
- 39:33Speaker 1: He's got an era of under two, okay, and he's
- 39:38Speaker 1: won four games added o seven and he kept them
- 39:41Speaker 1: in the other two. They actually won six out of
- 39:44Speaker 1: the seven game last seven games that he's pitched.
- 39:47Speaker 2: And Jon you know, he had ten strikeouts Carlos were
- 39:49Speaker 2: on the other night against.
- 39:50Speaker 5: So I want to ask you a question.
- 39:52Speaker 6: Dom you you've been a player and you've been a coach.
- 39:56Speaker 6: What must these guys, including Aaron je be feeling right
- 40:02Speaker 6: now before they go into this game?
- 40:04Speaker 1: Well, you know, you know, you're you're excited, you're excided.
- 40:09Speaker 1: But when you're a pro, you have to keep your
- 40:11Speaker 1: emotions in check. You know, you have to make sure
- 40:15Speaker 1: that you take each pitch is different, each player is different.
- 40:19Speaker 1: You never know what it's gonna be your turn to
- 40:22Speaker 1: come up there in a big spot and win the game.
- 40:25Speaker 1: So your emotion's got to be in check. You can't
- 40:28Speaker 1: get too high, you can't get too low. You got
- 40:30Speaker 1: to be what we called what we call even keel. Okay,
- 40:35Speaker 1: even keel. That's why you say even tell them like
- 40:38Speaker 1: college guys, you can't you know, you can't listen. You're
- 40:42Speaker 1: gonna fail. You're gonna fail more than you succeed in
- 40:46Speaker 1: this game. Alex, you know this. If you make out
- 40:51Speaker 1: seven out of ten times, okay, you're still hitting three hundred,
- 40:54Speaker 1: You're gonna make a lot of money in the pros absolutely,
- 40:57Speaker 1: So that means you've only succeeded three times ten and
- 41:01Speaker 1: you fail seven times, but you still have a three
- 41:03Speaker 1: hundred batting average, and that means you're gonna make a
- 41:06Speaker 1: lot of money in the game and you're gonna be successful.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Now. One guy who's been hitting a lot more since
- 41:12Speaker 2: we last talked on the Arthur at Al Power Hour
- 41:15Speaker 2: is Anthony Volpe. What does he do he make adjustments
- 41:18Speaker 2: in the batter's box. I mean he looks better now.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I don't know if he's making adjustments. I think he's
- 41:23Speaker 1: seeing the ball a lot better. I think he's making
- 41:26Speaker 1: his pitch selection is better. And you know, when you're
- 41:30Speaker 1: going good, when you're going good, things just happen.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Good.
- 41:35Speaker 1: You're getting good counts, you will miss the pitch you're
- 41:39Speaker 1: supposed to hit. And that's what he's doing right now.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Okay, all right, So they're getting ready, they're excited. Is
- 41:46Speaker 6: there anything else they can do to prepare themselves for
- 41:50Speaker 6: tonight before they start?
- 41:52Speaker 1: Well, no, that's when the advanced scouts come in. That's
- 41:55Speaker 1: the job that I had when I was at Pittsburgh.
- 41:57Speaker 1: You know, you go scout these teams about a week before,
- 42:00Speaker 1: we get a half before, and you know, you know,
- 42:03Speaker 1: you give your manager the information that he may need, like,
- 42:08Speaker 1: you know, you know, what are these guys hitting? You
- 42:11Speaker 1: know who's stealing bases? You know you're prepared. You always
- 42:16Speaker 1: hear him talk about it in the postgame show that
- 42:19Speaker 1: we prepare before. In other words, they get in the
- 42:22Speaker 1: scouting report now on the pictures that they're facing and
- 42:27Speaker 1: also the hitters that they're facing, and it's up to
- 42:30Speaker 1: them to understand that the scouts have been watching these
- 42:34Speaker 1: guys and this is what you need to do. You
- 42:36Speaker 1: need to be patient at the plate, or maybe the
- 42:40Speaker 1: particular picture flows strikes. Maybe he's a seventy percent strike
- 42:44Speaker 1: forward or what does that mean? You don't want to
- 42:47Speaker 1: get behind in the count, so now you've got to
- 42:49Speaker 1: swing early in the count. You got that?
- 42:53Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, good.
- 42:55Speaker 6: I clearly have never played baseball necessarily, but I've played
- 43:00Speaker 6: around and I've done I do pretty good. When I
- 43:03Speaker 6: throw in catch. I do it with my nephew. I
- 43:05Speaker 6: used to do it with my nephew he got older.
- 43:07Speaker 6: I do it with my friend's son who used to
- 43:09Speaker 6: play baseball.
- 43:10Speaker 5: So I like it. I think it's a fun thing.
- 43:13Speaker 3: You know.
- 43:13Speaker 6: We were in Central Park on Monday for Memorial Day
- 43:16Speaker 6: and there were all sorts of teams playing, from young
- 43:19Speaker 6: young kids to older people.
- 43:20Speaker 5: It's just something fun to go out and do.
- 43:23Speaker 6: My friend's son Liam, I always get him with the
- 43:26Speaker 6: ball sets because I love to have him, you know,
- 43:29Speaker 6: hit the ball, or I love to have him try
- 43:30Speaker 6: and catch me hitting the ball. So it's kind of
- 43:33Speaker 6: fun something. Unfortunately, we broke every whiffleball we had.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Uh hah. That's a drill that we do it in
- 43:38Speaker 1: my camp. I throw whiffleballs. See, it's because why the
- 43:42Speaker 1: whiffle ball moves right when you throw it, it gets
- 43:45Speaker 1: the air, gets inside the you know, gets inside the holes,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and it moves different ways. And if you home keep
- 43:51Speaker 1: your head on the ball to hit it, you're not
- 43:54Speaker 1: gonna hit it. So that's what we use as well
- 43:57Speaker 1: as as a drill. We have we have little baseballs,
- 44:01Speaker 1: and we have whiffle bawls.
- 44:03Speaker 6: I bet you broke every whiffle ball? Did you break? Everyone?
- 44:07Speaker 1: No, we don't break them because you know, we have
- 44:09Speaker 1: zemble and hopefully do you know?
- 44:13Speaker 6: You know it's actually hard to find with the ball sets.
- 44:17Speaker 5: I actually my dad.
- 44:18Speaker 6: I had my dad searching for them for Liam a
- 44:22Speaker 6: couple of different times, and then all of a sudden
- 44:23Speaker 6: he was able to find a couple at once.
- 44:25Speaker 5: But it was hard sometimes. I guess they just sell
- 44:28Speaker 5: out quickly.
- 44:29Speaker 6: And I wonder if they are made overseas, because maybe
- 44:32Speaker 6: we'll start having a more costly wiffle ball sets where
- 44:35Speaker 6: they used to be kind of inexpensive.
- 44:37Speaker 2: And you know, they've become tournament friendly, right, So a
- 44:39Speaker 2: lot of these riffleball leagues have developed over the last
- 44:42Speaker 2: few years or something.
- 44:43Speaker 5: I did not know that. That's kind of.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Cool, amazing, that's amazing.
- 44:49Speaker 6: Don dom Scala, you are a treasure tell us where
- 44:52Speaker 6: people can find you because I know you have an
- 44:54Speaker 6: amazing baseball camp for kids.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we have a camp coming up probably in thirty days.
- 45:00Speaker 1: We saw our first one in Garden City Community Park.
- 45:04Speaker 1: We're almost sold out, and I'm going to ask the
- 45:07Speaker 1: people if they want a great camp where they're going
- 45:09Speaker 1: to learn the fundamentals in a game and have fun
- 45:12Speaker 1: doing it. Go to Domscala baseball dot com and you
- 45:16Speaker 1: can read all about us. There's our registration forms on there,
- 45:19Speaker 1: there's the schedule on there, there's pictures of the camp.
- 45:24Speaker 1: All I can tell you is that I've been doing
- 45:27Speaker 1: this for twenty four years. Wow, I still see kids.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I still see kids that are older now, that are
- 45:35Speaker 1: like twenty five to thirty years old, and when they
- 45:38Speaker 1: see me, they say, dom Scala, I still have your
- 45:41Speaker 1: I still have your trophies in our room when I won.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Because we do. You know, we do special awards for
- 45:49Speaker 1: the kids, you know, most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player,
- 45:52Speaker 1: All Star Player.
- 45:56Speaker 6: You're helping them, You're helping their life, You're helping you know,
- 46:00Speaker 6: make enrich their lives and give them something to look
- 46:04Speaker 6: forward to.
- 46:04Speaker 5: So thank you. You're a treasure.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Thank you very much for having me. Thank you. We'll
- 46:09Speaker 1: talk to you again.
- 46:10Speaker 6: Absolutely, we'll talk to you again for an update. All right,
- 46:13Speaker 6: Alex Carrott, let's switch to basketball, different ball, different game.
- 46:18Speaker 6: How our Knick's doing. I know, I know Lino in
- 46:21Speaker 6: her office is so happy. He was so angry when
- 46:25Speaker 6: they lost and very upset about it. But now I'm
- 46:27Speaker 6: sure he's happy that they won. Did you go and
- 46:30Speaker 6: watch outside to do the watch party?
- 46:32Speaker 2: No, it's so funny. Where I was at a party.
- 46:35Speaker 5: You shouldn't go, because when you don't go, they win.
- 46:37Speaker 2: After our show, I stayed in place in our studios,
- 46:40Speaker 2: you know the studios you're in nine to seventy, and
- 46:42Speaker 2: did not move a muscle. You can ask multiple witnesses.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I stayed here at one eleven Broadway, and they won.
- 46:48Speaker 2: So I don't know about meant to stay here again
- 46:50Speaker 2: for game six, but just know I stayed in place,
- 46:53Speaker 2: and it's funny. I was watching for updates. I didn't
- 46:55Speaker 2: want to watch the game. I was a little nervous
- 46:57Speaker 2: about that, so I just watched updates on my phone.
- 47:00Speaker 6: All right, so what do we expect to happen. When's
- 47:02Speaker 6: the next game?
- 47:03Speaker 2: Well, everybody, it's tomorrow night at eight pm in Indiana.
- 47:08Speaker 2: That's why we got to go back and get that
- 47:10Speaker 2: game in India.
- 47:11Speaker 5: Party again, we watching party.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Well it'll be at the Garden, but we'll be at
- 47:14Speaker 2: City Field.
- 47:15Speaker 6: So they also have a watch party downtown somewhere.
- 47:18Speaker 5: Yes, that's a trade center.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Right yeah, right outside the Oculus, which is a pretty
- 47:22Speaker 2: great scene too. So there's so many places to watch.
- 47:25Speaker 2: As we talked about the other night, watch parties were
- 47:27Speaker 2: not a thing twenty five years ago. So everybody's soaking
- 47:29Speaker 2: this in now.
- 47:30Speaker 6: Well, you know, people want to get together. They don't
- 47:32Speaker 6: want to watch by themselves. It's more fun when you're
- 47:35Speaker 6: with people. That's why people go to stadiums. They go,
- 47:37Speaker 6: you know, Beyonce. It's different listening to Beyonce or watching
- 47:41Speaker 6: her on TV at home as opposed to being in
- 47:43Speaker 6: a stadium filled with thousands of people. And we all
- 47:47Speaker 6: had wrist bands that you know, changed, the light on
- 47:50Speaker 6: the wristband changed. They had them timed. It was incredible.
- 47:54Speaker 6: Doing that is more exciting than doing it by yourself.
- 47:57Speaker 6: It's fun to be part of a crowd.
- 48:00Speaker 2: No, and I felt like everybody was so focused on
- 48:02Speaker 2: voicing their thoughts on Twitter. We finally get to see
- 48:04Speaker 2: each other now.
- 48:04Speaker 6: How cool is exactly exactly? Well, thank you for being
- 48:08Speaker 6: my sidekick tonight. Hopefully our dear San Bellino is feeling
- 48:11Speaker 6: better this week and we'll have Arthur at some point
- 48:15Speaker 6: next week. I can't promise the beginning of the week,
- 48:17Speaker 6: we are going to have Frank Morano as the guest
- 48:19Speaker 6: host on Monday Live and Local the Arthur Idella Power Our.
- 48:23Speaker 6: Have a great weekend, everyone, I hope it doesn't rain.
