- 1:37Speaker 1: we're gonna skip around little, but we're going to in
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Mariners when they win. It's better to talk about
- 1:41Speaker 1: the Mariners, So we're gonna talk about why they won
- 1:44Speaker 1: last night. Encouraging signs from a bullpen that's really in disarray,
- 1:48Speaker 1: had a paternity leave with their best reliever last night.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Now away from the team for a week and a
- 1:53Speaker 1: half or so, and that's cool. I mean, baseball never
- 1:56Speaker 1: used to do that when I was covering as a
- 1:58Speaker 1: baseball beat writer. Chris Baby Yeah under the next.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Back to work with him.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Art Howe, manager of the A's that as I covered
- 2:07Speaker 1: for the Sacramento be in the early two thousands, talked
- 2:09Speaker 1: about how he missed the first berth, the birth of
- 2:12Speaker 1: his first child because the Pirates, who hometown team he
- 2:16Speaker 1: is playing for, they might have been the Astros. By
- 2:18Speaker 1: then said nope, I don't know even know if he
- 2:21Speaker 1: even bothered to ask. Back in the seventies. We've come
- 2:25Speaker 1: a little way as a society by then. But another
- 2:29Speaker 1: departure from the bullpen ferrarely is on portunity leave. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: then some dudes last night that weren't even in their
- 2:34Speaker 1: plans to start the season showed up big in a
- 2:37Speaker 1: high leverage situation. Of course, the trash Cans are in
- 2:40Speaker 1: last place. That helped too. We'll talk about that. The
- 2:43Speaker 1: Kyle Rawley situation continues, we'll talk about that. Ten forty five.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We're down to four possible opponents now for the Seahawks
- 2:51Speaker 1: in the opening game thanks to what the NFL and
- 2:54Speaker 1: ESPN announced this morning for a week ones Monday night game.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And now we'll run down all the known matchups that
- 3:01Speaker 1: have gone out so far, official, not rumored. There's some
- 3:05Speaker 1: rumors out there. We're gonna talk at eleven o'clock about
- 3:07Speaker 1: one of them with Mike Kadlick. He is the Patriots
- 3:10Speaker 1: and the NFL writer for Sports Illustrated based in New England.
- 3:14Speaker 1: We haven't heard much about the Patriots, have we Nothing's
- 3:16Speaker 1: been happening since the Super Bowl with them.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Orgization, Man, We're gonna.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Talk to Mike Kadock about that and a lot more.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He thinks the first game should be Patriots. That's Seahawks
- 3:26Speaker 1: in a Super Bowl rematch. I'm going to ask Mike
- 3:29Speaker 1: why he thinks that? Really? Yes, he does. Wow.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm gonna need a thesis. Yes, this is quite
- 3:36Speaker 3: the Why the Patriots?
- 3:38Speaker 2: What do they? I mean?
- 3:39Speaker 3: I guess I'd want to see Christian Gonzalez again, That's it.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I think the cachet is just a Super Bowl rematch, right,
- 3:46Speaker 1: you could get that in Week ten or something. That's
- 3:48Speaker 1: what a lot of people are saying. You want to
- 3:49Speaker 1: do that for your first game, the showcase first game. Yeah. No,
- 3:53Speaker 1: And most people, and now, of course, we in the
- 3:55Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest celebrated Super Bowl sixty like no other, like
- 3:58Speaker 1: maybe only what other super Bowl ever, But the rest
- 4:02Speaker 1: of the country thought that game was an absolute bore.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It was a punathon for the first three quarters. Remember,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the Seahawks only had like a nine point lead nine
- 4:09Speaker 1: to nothing or whatever it was into the third quarter,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and then the Patriots did absolutely nothing against Mike McDonald's
- 4:14Speaker 1: defense and just punted about ten times in the first
- 4:17Speaker 1: three quarters. So nationally that Super Bowl's like, nah, no
- 4:20Speaker 1: more of that. There are a lot of people say, nah,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I don't need Patriots Seahawks to kick off the NFL
- 4:25Speaker 1: season on a Wednesdayay, But Mike Cadolic thinks that's what
- 4:28Speaker 1: it should be. We're gonna talk to him at eleven
- 4:29Speaker 1: o'clock eleven thirty. We'll read back to your text four nine,
- 4:32Speaker 1: four to five one, as we do every day on
- 4:34Speaker 1: the Tacoma Dodge text line. First time, we'll just ask
- 4:39Speaker 1: who do you want, not who you think it'll be,
- 4:42Speaker 1: who would you like? I guess what's of what's left
- 4:45Speaker 1: in remaining for the Seahawks to play Week one Bears, Cardinals, Chargers, Patriots.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Those are the only remaining teams they could possibly play
- 4:55Speaker 1: Week one because everybody else is accounted for. After the
- 5:00Speaker 1: Chiefs Broncos announcement today that they're going to be the
- 5:04Speaker 1: first Monday night game, ESPN and ABC announced that so
- 5:09Speaker 1: no Chiefs, They're not going to roll the dice with
- 5:11Speaker 1: Patrick Hutt now Mahomes and Knicks. Bill Nicks is coming
- 5:14Speaker 1: off an ankle injury that he got in the postseason,
- 5:17Speaker 1: So those are two quarterbacks coming off somewhat substantial inter
- 5:21Speaker 1: of course, Mahomes's was much more significant in ACL but
- 5:25Speaker 1: apparently Chris Man, we talked about what they risk Mahomes
- 5:27Speaker 1: coming to Seattle showcase game would even be ready. Apparently
- 5:30Speaker 1: they're not worried about that for the first Monday night game.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah, because they're playing against the Broncos.
- 5:33Speaker 3: It was another nasty defense that's really talented, got a
- 5:38Speaker 3: good pass rush, good linebackers, and a great secondary.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So yeah, that's I guess they're not worried about it.
- 5:43Speaker 3: But hey, we'll see how it all unfolds during training
- 5:46Speaker 3: camp when Mahomes for the YouTube folks officially back. So yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 3: I'm excited to see that. I'm hoping the Seahawks face
- 5:54Speaker 3: the Bears charged with my second b I think the
- 5:57Speaker 3: Chargers when you I know, it's pretty harsh on them yesterday,
- 6:00Speaker 3: but looking back at it, that could be an intriguing matchup.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Felt bothered you.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a bad night looking at the soon, like, dang,
- 6:08Speaker 3: I just pooped all over the Chargers, like there are
- 6:10Speaker 3: just some four and thirteen team when they're actually not
- 6:14Speaker 3: that bad. They're they're okay, So that would be an
- 6:17Speaker 3: interesting matchup. So yeah, Bears one A, and then I
- 6:22Speaker 3: guess number two, I'd have to go Chargers. Everything after that,
- 6:26Speaker 3: I don't know. There there's no way that they can
- 6:29Speaker 3: have the Cardinals unless Jeremiah Love is running for two
- 6:32Speaker 3: hundred and fifty yards week one.
- 6:35Speaker 1: That is the only okay, But yes, of course he
- 6:38Speaker 1: wouldn't have run for that by the opener time, and
- 6:40Speaker 1: of course they have to decide that by tomorrow. So
- 6:44Speaker 1: I just don't see that happening.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So no Cardinals and Patriots, no chance in hell people
- 6:49Speaker 3: want to watch that in Seattle, and I don't want
- 6:51Speaker 3: to see that.
- 6:52Speaker 2: For what it's worth, a.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Lot of people in the country agree with you about
- 6:54Speaker 1: the Patriots.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Yeah it's cool, it's cool. And then you have the
- 6:57Speaker 3: whole Mike Vrabel thing, do you really who his ass?
- 7:00Speaker 3: And then hey man, sorry bud situation. I want, yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 3: give me the shot where Mike McDonald and Rabel embrace.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Does McDonald say, hey man, tough times, you're all one now?
- 7:11Speaker 3: Or like, what does that exchange? I would love to,
- 7:13Speaker 3: of course give it Mike Rabels offseason. Maybe you don't
- 7:15Speaker 3: want to embrace him at this point.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Just give him at a long extended farm if that's
- 7:21Speaker 1: the the season, but hopefully you make it through the seas.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Salute from across the season. Across the field. The Mariners
- 7:28Speaker 1: kyl Ray fourth again yesterday, second time in two games,
- 7:33Speaker 1: second time this season. He went over four with a strikeout.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He's again he didn't walk, so now that's oh for
- 7:39Speaker 1: his last forty played appearances, with only three walks in
- 7:41Speaker 1: that spam, he's over thirty four. It's the major's longest
- 7:45Speaker 1: hitless streak this season. His batting average is one fifty seven,
- 7:49Speaker 1: the second the runner, the close runner up to the
- 7:52Speaker 1: American League MVP is hitting one fifty seven last the
- 7:56Speaker 1: last season's MVP. That's the second worst and Major League
- 8:00Speaker 1: Baseball one fifty seven is only behind Tampa Bay, only
- 8:02Speaker 1: ahead of Tampa Bay's Cedric Mullins has hit one forty three,
- 8:06Speaker 1: has about twenty five thirty fewer plate appearances than does
- 8:09Speaker 1: Kyle Rawley. And that's part of the point. It's I
- 8:13Speaker 1: mentioned it yesterday. I don't know why they don't do
- 8:15Speaker 1: it other than they haven't gone to him and asked
- 8:17Speaker 1: him or told him. But they need to put him
- 8:19Speaker 1: on the ten day injured list for a break and
- 8:22Speaker 1: give his physical a physical break up, give his side
- 8:26Speaker 1: aching side that Ryan Divish on Sunday in Chicago reported
- 8:30Speaker 1: he's still getting daily treatment for but maybe more. Chris
- 8:33Speaker 1: is a mental break and just to be done with
- 8:37Speaker 1: trying to get his timing right. I saw Harold Reynold's
- 8:40Speaker 1: on Major League Baseball last night talking about he's just
- 8:42Speaker 1: a little late. A tick late, is what Reynolds said.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Former Mariner, of course, who believes Raley is not that
- 8:48Speaker 1: far away, but just a reset. I mean it's May twelfth.
- 8:52Speaker 1: You could reset for ten days and be back before
- 8:54Speaker 1: Memorial Day. We made this point yesterday. That's still one
- 8:57Speaker 1: hundred and ten plus games rainning in the season, and
- 8:59Speaker 1: the aos is not going anywhere. It's I don't know
- 9:03Speaker 1: why they're dragging him through this. Honestly, They're dragging him
- 9:08Speaker 1: through the pain of his side that he's getting treatment for,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and they're dragging him through having to see one fifty
- 9:14Speaker 1: seven up on the scoreboard every time he well, now
- 9:17Speaker 1: it's plummeting every time. I get it you defer to
- 9:22Speaker 1: the player, the veteran player face with the franchise you
- 9:25Speaker 1: want to go, You're okay, I'm gonna go. If you
- 9:28Speaker 1: ask a guy like Cal Rawley and that I've known
- 9:30Speaker 1: him and talk to him in the clubhouse, he's not
- 9:32Speaker 1: gonna say, yeah, I'll just take ten days off, Skip
- 9:35Speaker 1: me ten days off. Please me.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Ask you this, Greg, do you think Cal is pressing
- 9:44Speaker 3: because of last season when he had sixty home runs?
- 9:47Speaker 2: Did that raise.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Expectations to maybe something that could be impossible to reach again?
- 9:53Speaker 3: And he's just searching for that anomaly that he had.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Sure, I mean, once you reach that platfor so what's
- 10:00Speaker 1: next for the team? Of course the World Series? But
- 10:03Speaker 1: for him, sixty home run seasons won't just come around
- 10:07Speaker 1: and fall out of trees. That he will likely never
- 10:10Speaker 1: get sixty home runs again. So it's a it's an
- 10:13Speaker 1: expectation that's unattainable. But now he knows what he's capable
- 10:16Speaker 1: of doing. I mean, honestly, how do you find the balance? Though?
- 10:19Speaker 2: I guess the question how?
- 10:20Speaker 3: I think that's what the coaches got to be emphasizing, Hey,
- 10:23Speaker 3: we don't need you to do what you did last season.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Right at this point, need to do thirty or just
- 10:27Speaker 2: get on.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Base, j Jay Buner on especially if you're going to
- 10:30Speaker 1: beat at the top of the order, just get on base.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Walks be paid more patient, but pitchers are getting him
- 10:37Speaker 1: out with pitches that are not strikes, often blown away,
- 10:40Speaker 1: some off speed. But Jay Buner made the point last
- 10:45Speaker 1: night as the guest analyst with Dave Valley and Aaron
- 10:47Speaker 1: Goldsmith I'm Mariners TV during the broadcast about how he
- 10:50Speaker 1: talked to Kyle Rally before last night's game and said,
- 10:53Speaker 1: you're still on pace for thirty home runs. Bro, That's
- 10:56Speaker 1: how I'd take that. Everyone will take that. But that's
- 11:00Speaker 1: that's really not the point. Because the Mariners have home runs.
- 11:03Speaker 1: They won last night because Julio Rodriguez hit won on
- 11:05Speaker 1: the railroad tracks. That's how they win. They won tons
- 11:10Speaker 1: into the well next to that the last game before
- 11:13Speaker 1: the World Series last year because Raley hit so many
- 11:15Speaker 1: home runs. But with their pitching staff, they don't really
- 11:18Speaker 1: need another home run hitter. Honestly, they need cal Rawley
- 11:22Speaker 1: to drive in runs and get on base and be
- 11:24Speaker 1: a productive part of the order. So that Rodriguez, who
- 11:27Speaker 1: we're going to talk about in a little bit to start.
- 11:29Speaker 1: He's off to all of a sudden, you know, by
- 11:30Speaker 1: the way, we spent a lot of time in this
- 11:32Speaker 1: area and on this station ripping Julio Rodriguez for his starts.
- 11:37Speaker 1: He's off to the best start of his career. And
- 11:39Speaker 1: he started in the one to fifties with Cal Rawley
- 11:41Speaker 1: in April, and now he's got the best number. We're
- 11:45Speaker 1: going to talk about it a few minutes. He's got
- 11:46Speaker 1: the best numbers of his career so far into May
- 11:50Speaker 1: and this year. He's bat in three to fifty this
- 11:52Speaker 1: month with an ops of one point one five and
- 11:55Speaker 1: a seven to seven to five slugging as much time
- 11:58Speaker 1: as we spend ripping Julio Rodriguez pre praising him for
- 12:01Speaker 1: what he's doing because he is way above his career
- 12:03Speaker 1: average for the middle of May. But with Rodriguez hitting
- 12:08Speaker 1: behind him as he's hitting, they just need Raleigh on base, honestly.
- 12:13Speaker 1: But to your point, Chris, he's not thinking I just
- 12:16Speaker 1: need to get on base. Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if that's accurate, but I felt
- 12:20Speaker 2: watching him.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I feel like he's just trying to get back to
- 12:22Speaker 3: where he was, which not trying to say you can't
- 12:24Speaker 3: do it. But that's just if you're in the NBA
- 12:29Speaker 3: and you're averaging you know, one season you average like seventeen,
- 12:32Speaker 3: and then the following season you averaged twenty seven. That
- 12:34Speaker 3: third season, like, is everyone expecting you to average twenty seven?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Right?
- 12:37Speaker 3: Like I think if you can get twenty four, Like,
- 12:39Speaker 3: who's gonna be mad at that? It's not what you
- 12:42Speaker 3: did in year two? But damn, it's still really good.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I'm dating myself. But when I was first covering Major
- 12:47Speaker 1: League Baseball as a beat writer covering the A's and
- 12:49Speaker 1: Jason Giambi won the America League MVP in the early
- 12:51Speaker 1: two thousands. The next season after that, the pitchers did
- 12:55Speaker 1: not throw to him. They just off speed away some
- 12:58Speaker 1: of the stuff we see Kyle Rowley get. Yeah, but
- 13:00Speaker 1: they they did not come into the strike zone. You
- 13:03Speaker 1: know what happened in next year he led the league
- 13:04Speaker 1: in walks Giomby did, And we all made fun of
- 13:07Speaker 1: it on the beat. We talked about how he would
- 13:09Speaker 1: say after games, oh, I just took my walks and
- 13:13Speaker 1: like my dad always tells me, just be patient. He
- 13:14Speaker 1: would say that all the time. For like one hundred
- 13:16Speaker 1: and sixty two games. He led the league in walks.
- 13:18Speaker 1: The A's were one of the best teams and best
- 13:20Speaker 1: offenses in baseball went back to the playoffs, and that
- 13:24Speaker 1: was the adjustment Giomby made was, Okay, this isn't going
- 13:27Speaker 1: to be a forty to fifty home run season. This
- 13:29Speaker 1: is going to be on base and have Matt Stairs
- 13:32Speaker 1: and his brother Jeremy, and John John and all these
- 13:34Speaker 1: other dudes. Mariners had sluggers at the time they hit
- 13:38Speaker 1: the home runs, and that's what the Mariners are as
- 13:40Speaker 1: an offense. We deride them for just singles, strikeouts and
- 13:43Speaker 1: home runs, but it's who they are. They're not really
- 13:46Speaker 1: going to change, so they have other home run hitters.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Kyle Rowley doesn't need to be an even forty home
- 13:53Speaker 1: run guy on this team. We talked about this yesterday too,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and I know Ian did on his show after ours.
- 13:58Speaker 1: This team's gonna win a division if they have just
- 14:01Speaker 1: a modicum of offense with their pitching. Their bullpen has struggled,
- 14:05Speaker 1: but this division is so bad that the Mariners are
- 14:08Speaker 1: going to win the division. For Kyle Rawley to get
- 14:11Speaker 1: the Mariners to the World Series, I submit he doesn't
- 14:14Speaker 1: need to be a sixty home run a fifty home
- 14:15Speaker 1: run or even a forty home run guy. He needs
- 14:17Speaker 1: to be an on basement and drive in run machine,
- 14:20Speaker 1: a guy who hits singles, doubles and walks, and let
- 14:24Speaker 1: the rest of the lineup get the pitches the pitchers
- 14:26Speaker 1: will give them because Raley's on base. The name of
- 14:30Speaker 1: the game in baseball, get on base. So the hitters
- 14:32Speaker 1: behind you have to face strikes. You don't have to
- 14:35Speaker 1: face strikes from the bases are empty. And if Rawley's
- 14:39Speaker 1: getting a one to fifty seven batting average, Holy Rodriguez
- 14:42Speaker 1: and all the guys behind him are hitting with empty bases,
- 14:45Speaker 1: Raley on base, everyone else will hit their strikes, and
- 14:49Speaker 1: then you play offense. I'm simplifying this, I know to
- 14:52Speaker 1: a fault, but the bottom line is give him a
- 14:57Speaker 1: ten day break to rest that side, to rest his head.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And it's still only May twenty second or twenty third,
- 15:04Speaker 1: and you got a one hundred and ten games. Let's
- 15:07Speaker 1: see what a refreshed cal Rawley would be. They won't
- 15:10Speaker 1: do that because they will not go to him and
- 15:12Speaker 1: tell him that. At least, there's no precedent here that
- 15:14Speaker 1: says Hollander de Poto or Dan Wilson's gonna say we're
- 15:18Speaker 1: shutting you down. That would be a precedent. They have
- 15:20Speaker 1: yet to set on a major player like this, but
- 15:23Speaker 1: I think that's what should happen. I don't know other
- 15:25Speaker 1: than them just not wanting to cross that rubicon of
- 15:28Speaker 1: not having a player and telling him he's sitting. I
- 15:30Speaker 1: don't know the reason why you would not do that.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Four one, four to five one on the Takmodadge tech
- 15:35Speaker 1: line for your opinions about that possible solution to Kyle Rawley,
- 15:41Speaker 1: or maybe it just works itself out, Chris, because there's
- 15:44Speaker 1: still one hundred and twenty plus games left, I would think,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and that's what they it looks like they're banking on.
- 15:49Speaker 3: I would think that Cal could get out of his
- 15:51Speaker 3: own funk. As you mentioned, he talked a little bit
- 15:54Speaker 3: about it. It's up here in the head. He don't
- 15:56Speaker 3: say that Sunday based on that. Sure, I know he's
- 15:58Speaker 3: banged up, but I think he can play better with
- 16:02Speaker 3: being banged up.
- 16:03Speaker 2: That's just how I feel.
- 16:04Speaker 3: I believe that Kyle is not a bad player that
- 16:07Speaker 3: just had an outlier season and he won't be as
- 16:10Speaker 3: good ever again. I think he's just mentally trying to
- 16:16Speaker 3: figure out why he's playing so poorly and how he
- 16:19Speaker 3: can help his team, and as a team, they're not
- 16:21Speaker 3: playing well. So I think all of that is just
- 16:25Speaker 3: a challenge for him at this point in the season,
- 16:27Speaker 3: and maybe that ten day rest would benefit. But also
- 16:30Speaker 3: think if you take him out those ten days or
- 16:33Speaker 3: their possibility's even rusting now because he hasn't played in
- 16:36Speaker 3: any games. He's just been resting, which isn't a bad
- 16:38Speaker 3: thing because there's still time from the amp up get
- 16:41Speaker 3: back to just being a better overall player.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But that would be my one concern, Like damn, send
- 16:45Speaker 1: him to a rehab assignment and tookin for that.
- 16:47Speaker 2: That's true as well.
- 16:48Speaker 3: You can get me, could easily get him going sending
- 16:50Speaker 3: him up there popping some homers.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Okay, I feel great.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I'm ready to go back to it, so there's definitely
- 16:54Speaker 2: a way to do it.
- 16:55Speaker 3: But even then, I'm just like, eh, I think he's
- 16:58Speaker 3: capable of just playing through. I think that because they
- 17:01Speaker 3: need some adversity, and boy are they facing it right now.
- 17:04Speaker 3: But as you mentioned, the al is just not that good.
- 17:06Speaker 3: But even then, you're sitting at twenty and twenty two,
- 17:09Speaker 3: not great for your standards, and where you perceive your
- 17:12Speaker 3: team to be. But I think for Kyle that would
- 17:15Speaker 3: be a good test going through this fire of dealing
- 17:18Speaker 3: with pain, injury, whatever you want to call it, not
- 17:21Speaker 3: playing your best, still playing. You get into July, you're
- 17:26Speaker 3: as close to healthy as you can be. You're feeling good,
- 17:28Speaker 3: you're hitting better.
- 17:29Speaker 1: But if he's still getting treatment daily on his side
- 17:32Speaker 1: and it's May, how's that going to rest and get better?
- 17:36Speaker 2: You'd hope that over well, maybe it's an injury that
- 17:38Speaker 2: over time it's going.
- 17:39Speaker 1: To Yeah, that's what the manners are counting on. It appears.
- 17:41Speaker 1: So here's the thing. Roley's down, but Holio Rodrguez is
- 17:44Speaker 1: way up. Yeah, and again we need to spend some
- 17:47Speaker 1: time in Seattle talking about that. We love to bang
- 17:50Speaker 1: on him when he's hitting two hundred. Well, I mentioned
- 17:54Speaker 1: three point fifty this month after the home run last night.
- 17:56Speaker 1: He's sucking seven to seventy five in May. He has
- 17:58Speaker 1: an ops at one point one five this month. His
- 18:02Speaker 1: average in the two seventies here in mid May is
- 18:04Speaker 1: way way above what it usually is this time of year.
- 18:07Speaker 1: He's hitting two seventy four with a seven ninety ops.
- 18:11Speaker 1: The kids love the WRC plus. His WRC plus is
- 18:16Speaker 1: one twenty seven. Those are far and away his highest
- 18:18Speaker 1: numbers of his career through May eleventh. I mean, he's
- 18:23Speaker 1: thirty points twenty points higher than his rookie season. In
- 18:28Speaker 1: batting average let alone, he's one hundred and forty points
- 18:31Speaker 1: higher than his ops of his rookie season. Through May eleven,
- 18:35Speaker 1: he's thirty three points higher in WRC WRC plus by
- 18:41Speaker 1: every metric. He is way up hitting wise, and he's
- 18:45Speaker 1: still giving you the defense he gives you. Julio Rodriguez
- 18:49Speaker 1: is the guy we ought to be talking about a lot,
- 18:52Speaker 1: because we talk about him when he's down, and now
- 18:53Speaker 1: he's way way up. He hit the home run last
- 18:57Speaker 1: night and made it a three run lead for the Mariners.
- 18:59Speaker 1: They win three to one, and that's pretty much all
- 19:01Speaker 1: they got again, singles and home runs. The bullpen did
- 19:05Speaker 1: it last night. When we come back, we're going to
- 19:06Speaker 1: talk about a bullpen that has been in disarray. The
- 19:10Speaker 1: closer last night, Andres Munos also did something different. He
- 19:13Speaker 1: hasn't been doing that we've talked about on the show.
- 19:15Speaker 1: He needs to start doing. He did it last night.
- 19:17Speaker 1: We'll talk about that next on ninety three point three
- 19:19Speaker 1: kJ RFM won.
- 19:21Speaker 4: You'll trying to finish it off his tow two. Let's
- 19:26Speaker 4: strike up to end the game, and my Mariners take
- 19:29Speaker 4: game one Andres munyial strikes out.
- 19:33Speaker 1: You're don Alvarez to finish it off tonight.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Yes, the very aggressive Andres Munio is using that fastball
- 19:39Speaker 4: more than we've ever seen him use it. In an outing.
- 19:44Speaker 1: That was Dave vell at the very end on Aaron
- 19:46Speaker 1: Goldsmith played by play on Manors TV. Last night, when
- 19:49Speaker 1: the Mariners closed out the trash Cans with a three
- 19:51Speaker 1: to one win, Alvarez was up with the tying run
- 19:55Speaker 1: on first base after a two out single by Jose Altuve.
- 19:58Speaker 1: You heard the final out there, he did say. Dave
- 20:00Speaker 1: Valley made a good point, and during the inning itself,
- 20:04Speaker 1: how much more he was using the fastball last night, Chris,
- 20:06Speaker 1: How often have we talked about Andre's mune was getting
- 20:09Speaker 1: hit by this, his slider getting hit for game crushing
- 20:13Speaker 1: I mean home runs and game winning hits, and we
- 20:15Speaker 1: kept saying, go back to the fastball, go back to
- 20:17Speaker 1: the fastball. Last night he did. Yet that final pitch
- 20:20Speaker 1: was a change up, which he rarely throws. He's almost
- 20:23Speaker 1: fastball slider fastball slider, and he threw Albarez a change
- 20:27Speaker 1: up that he was waving out. That pitch was three
- 20:28Speaker 1: feet outside, and Albarez was so fooled by seeing a
- 20:32Speaker 1: pitch in the low nineties, not diving like a slider
- 20:35Speaker 1: does that he just waved at it. And it was
- 20:38Speaker 1: because he had used a fastball so much earlier in
- 20:42Speaker 1: the inning. The Altuve hit was a high and away
- 20:46Speaker 1: fastball one hundred miles an hour. And when Altive hit
- 20:49Speaker 1: that was like, well, there's only a few guys in
- 20:50Speaker 1: the league that could hit that pitch for a base
- 20:52Speaker 1: hit and elevate it like Altuve did. Okay, fine that
- 20:57Speaker 1: Albarez had to be thinking that, and then he gave
- 21:00Speaker 1: a few more fastballs. He threw a couple of sliders
- 21:02Speaker 1: to Alvarez, and then he got him with a change
- 21:03Speaker 1: up there in the game. I mean that was the
- 21:06Speaker 1: best Andres Munnos, that was all Star closer Andres Munnos,
- 21:12Speaker 1: and I mean, that was what he needs to do,
- 21:15Speaker 1: get back to the fastball. He told Adam Jude's Seattle
- 21:18Speaker 1: Times in the clubhouse in Houston after the game last night.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Munyos did quote a lot of emotions. I've been working
- 21:23Speaker 1: on a lot of stuff, and as soon as I
- 21:25Speaker 1: got in, I said, quote, I'm going to do my best,
- 21:28Speaker 1: and that's what I did. His best is the fastball.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It's one hundred plus and it's what everything else feeds
- 21:34Speaker 1: off of. And he was really slider dependent early and
- 21:38Speaker 1: he was getting torched and often. I mean, he had
- 21:40Speaker 1: many scoreless outings as well, but when he lost, he
- 21:43Speaker 1: lost big with the slider. Last night, he won big
- 21:46Speaker 1: with the fastball, and it and change up ended up
- 21:50Speaker 1: tying up jord On Alvarez. But that wasn't the only
- 21:54Speaker 1: guy that Alvarez out last night. I was really impressed
- 21:57Speaker 1: Chris after ninety nine pitches. You could see in third
- 22:01Speaker 1: inning Kirby was into the seventies and you could see,
- 22:04Speaker 1: oh here, this is gonna be a bullpen game on
- 22:06Speaker 1: a day that Jose Ferrer, the best reliever, most consistent reliever,
- 22:10Speaker 1: left on paternity leave. And that's on top of Matt
- 22:13Speaker 1: Brash of course, and Gabe Spier, the primary setup guys
- 22:17Speaker 1: on the injured list. So now the bullpens in shambles.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Three three key guys. The guy you traded for Harry
- 22:25Speaker 1: Ford for the veteran reliever Ferrara and then your two
- 22:28Speaker 1: primary setup guys are all gone. Nick, come on down.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Twenty seven years old. He was a non roster invited
- 22:38Speaker 1: to spring training. He had his twenty twenty fourth season
- 22:41Speaker 1: at Single A Everett interrupted by injury. Chris, do you
- 22:44Speaker 1: know where he began this season last month? Where who
- 22:46Speaker 1: was pitching for?
- 22:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't a double Ale Arkansas Travelers. Yeah, third
- 22:52Speaker 3: MLB appearance. That's right, high pressure six.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Inning, all on the road. And you know what he
- 22:57Speaker 2: did handle business?
- 22:58Speaker 3: That's he did the real story as you mentioned earlier,
- 23:01Speaker 3: like these guys stepped up. Not to mention everyone's favorite
- 23:03Speaker 3: Edward Bizardo. He bounced back after Sunday's mishap, but tossa
- 23:09Speaker 3: School was eighth inning. You needed that obviously. And then
- 23:13Speaker 3: I was pitching for I think the third time let
- 23:15Speaker 3: me see in four days. So yeah, shout out to
- 23:17Speaker 3: the bullpen for sure.
- 23:19Speaker 1: In the sixth inning, after ninety nine pitches in George Kirby,
- 23:22Speaker 1: who by the way, loaded the bases, had a couple
- 23:24Speaker 1: guys on a couple of innings. He got out of
- 23:26Speaker 1: a lot of jams with fortunate in some ways that
- 23:28Speaker 1: he gives up just one run, but that's what he
- 23:31Speaker 1: does against the trash Cans. His career eer a and
- 23:34Speaker 1: eleven outings is now down to two. He had one
- 23:37Speaker 1: bad game last year against Houston, gave up like five
- 23:40Speaker 1: runs in five innings four innings or something like that.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Other than that is Era's one against Houston, and he
- 23:46Speaker 1: gave up one run in five innings last night. Davila
- 23:49Speaker 1: comes in against six seven, eight nine against the trash Cans. Lineup,
- 23:52Speaker 1: got a ground out, a called strike out, a groundball
- 23:55Speaker 1: single in the line out to Rodriguez and it was
- 23:58Speaker 1: a bridge ending to get to the back of the
- 24:01Speaker 1: that may have earned him more opportunities. You're going to
- 24:03Speaker 1: see Doavil, I would think in leverage situations, especially as
- 24:07Speaker 1: long as Brash a spire out. And while Ferrara is
- 24:11Speaker 1: going to be a dad, he threw only fourteen pitches.
- 24:14Speaker 1: But here we go. The Mariners have their rules right,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you can't start a new inning. They don't want to
- 24:17Speaker 1: start a reliever starting a new inning. So out goes
- 24:20Speaker 1: Dad a little after just fourteen pitches, and here comes
- 24:22Speaker 1: Cooper Criswell, who was on with Chuck Powell about an
- 24:26Speaker 1: hour ago. Criswell comes into the game. He's been into Dodgers.
- 24:29Speaker 1: He was a starting pitcher for a while and he's
- 24:32Speaker 1: been in all kinds of roles around the major leagues.
- 24:34Speaker 1: They got him in the offseason. He comes in in
- 24:37Speaker 1: the seventh inning of a three to one game. He's
- 24:38Speaker 1: set down the top of the Cans order one, two, three,
- 24:41Speaker 1: Criswell struck out Jordan Novarez out an eighty seven mind
- 24:44Speaker 1: hour slider that completely fulled Avage because he didn't swing.
- 24:47Speaker 1: It was center cut down the middle, called strike three.
- 24:50Speaker 1: He just did not. He was completely fooled and didn't
- 24:52Speaker 1: expect a slider at eighty seven right down the middle
- 24:55Speaker 1: to end the inning. Thirteen pitches for Criswell. Well, what's
- 24:58Speaker 1: that mean? He's done? Can't start a new ending Marrier's rule.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Here comes Edward Bizardo, bottom of the eighth leadoff member.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Bizarto had given it up in Chicago the day before
- 25:09Speaker 1: with the two runs late in the game when they
- 25:11Speaker 1: lost two to one. He comes in, as met Chris
- 25:14Speaker 1: mentioned third time in four days, leadoff walk, really bad
- 25:17Speaker 1: mistake in a two run game. Then strikeout, strikeout, strikeout
- 25:21Speaker 1: two of them called. I loved how Bizardo stumped off
- 25:23Speaker 1: the mound after the ending end of two man he
- 25:25Speaker 1: was pretty pumped up. Still three one ams. Meanwhile, the
- 25:30Speaker 1: offense eighteen batters and nineteen played appearances made outs in
- 25:34Speaker 1: that stretch after the home run and the third inning,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I think it was by Rodriguez eighteen of nineteen retired
- 25:40Speaker 1: by Houston's really bad pitching staff, So the bullpen had
- 25:45Speaker 1: to do this. Then we talk about the bottom ninth
- 25:47Speaker 1: Unjos comes in. Okay, Anders, we're going to take a
- 25:51Speaker 1: poke at the new dad. He loves to talk about
- 25:53Speaker 1: how JP Crawford's defense is killing him. And sure enough,
- 25:58Speaker 1: the first run of the game last night, for the
- 25:59Speaker 1: track was off the backhand glove of JP Crawford. Although
- 26:04Speaker 1: I will tell you that hit scorched. There are very
- 26:07Speaker 1: few shortstops that would have picked that and kept it
- 26:10Speaker 1: from going into the outfield and prevented the run there.
- 26:13Speaker 1: But in a ninth inning, Chris out of you noticed it.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Fans may have noticed that play to start the inning
- 26:20Speaker 1: with the first out, charging hard and taking a short
- 26:24Speaker 1: hop cleanly into his glove and then throwing on the
- 26:26Speaker 1: run to get the first out of the ninth was splendid.
- 26:31Speaker 1: That is a hard, hard play to make. You have
- 26:33Speaker 1: to make a decision. As a short stop, you stay back.
- 26:35Speaker 1: And if I charge and commit, I got to commit
- 26:37Speaker 1: charging to this, meaning I can't wait for a hop.
- 26:40Speaker 1: If I'm going to charge this, I got a glove
- 26:42Speaker 1: it wherever it gloves. And if it's a short hop,
- 26:45Speaker 1: And that was a really short hop, like a couple inches,
- 26:47Speaker 1: and he got it and threw in one motion, that
- 26:51Speaker 1: changes the ending. Of course, there's all kinds of statistics
- 26:53Speaker 1: to tell you what happens when the leadoff man gets
- 26:55Speaker 1: on versus when he isn't, and whether a team scores
- 26:58Speaker 1: a run or not they needed to, of course, and
- 27:01Speaker 1: the rest was history. But yeah, we've also given JP
- 27:04Speaker 1: Crawford grief on this station for his defense time, to
- 27:07Speaker 1: give him some props for what he did in a night.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Thenny to get Andre s Munos off to the start
- 27:12Speaker 1: sweep coming. Here we go four ram series against the
- 27:15Speaker 1: last place team. You may be right, Chris, maybe Brian
- 27:21Speaker 1: was starting to night sweep coming Brian Woo started a night.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Bryce Miller makes his first appearance of the season tomorrow
- 27:29Speaker 1: off the injured list. He has never never, He has
- 27:32Speaker 1: not this spring thrown more than sixty one pitches in
- 27:35Speaker 1: the minor league rehab assignment, so it may be another
- 27:39Speaker 1: bullpen night tonight. It would behoove the Mariners to get
- 27:41Speaker 1: another Brian Wu esque start, and that he's usually a
- 27:44Speaker 1: seven inning plus guy. He's something of an anomaly in
- 27:47Speaker 1: Major League Baseball this year or this era. But if
- 27:50Speaker 1: Wu gives you a Wu type start, which he bounced
- 27:53Speaker 1: back last time and did, then you set your bullpen
- 27:56Speaker 1: up for what should be a bullpen day at least
- 27:59Speaker 1: half the game or a little more, a little less
- 28:01Speaker 1: than half the game tomorrow, when Bryce Miller's coming back
- 28:04Speaker 1: off the injured list, and then Louis Castillo in what
- 28:08Speaker 1: is mounting up to be a pretty important start on
- 28:11Speaker 1: the Thursday afternoon. Maybe it's morning our time. I think
- 28:13Speaker 1: it's eleven am Thursday morning series finale and road trip
- 28:17Speaker 1: finale in Houston, because they are doing this six man
- 28:19Speaker 1: rotation deal and they really are looking at, okay, what's
- 28:23Speaker 1: Louis Castillo look like in this six man rotation? Are
- 28:25Speaker 1: they going to piggyback starters? Are they going to stretch
- 28:28Speaker 1: everyone out with five days rest with a six man rotation?
- 28:32Speaker 1: How Castillo does Thursday in Houston will probably have a
- 28:35Speaker 1: long say about that. The other thing this six man
- 28:37Speaker 1: rotation does, of course, is it changes the dynamics of
- 28:39Speaker 1: the bullpen, and guys may not pitch as often as
- 28:42Speaker 1: they do, or they may have to pitch if the
- 28:44Speaker 1: guys get if starters don't take to this. Anyway, the
- 28:49Speaker 1: most encouraging thing last night to me was the bullpen
- 28:52Speaker 1: getting guys that they did not have in their plans
- 28:55Speaker 1: in high leverage situations and succeeding. We saw what happened
- 28:59Speaker 1: earlier in the season when guys had been forced into
- 29:02Speaker 1: high leverage situations that did not succeed. Casey Beans is gone,
- 29:06Speaker 1: Lagomina was dfaight after failing in those situations, but not
- 29:10Speaker 1: last night. Dodola and Chriswell nails. Of course, again, that's
- 29:15Speaker 1: a last place team. Into Cris's point, they need to
- 29:17Speaker 1: capitalize this and win four games. So and you're back
- 29:19Speaker 1: right in it, right, you're number one, like probably they
- 29:23Speaker 1: are two games back right now because the A's won
- 29:25Speaker 1: last night and we're not that we're watching the standings
- 29:28Speaker 1: May twelfth, But the point it's worth watching the standings.
- 29:31Speaker 1: The point is that the Al West is not going anywhere.
- 29:34Speaker 1: So the Mariners last night off to a good start
- 29:38Speaker 1: because of their bullpen, and how often have we said
- 29:40Speaker 1: that this season that has been the other way four nine,
- 29:42Speaker 1: four to five one. Your failings about the Mariners after
- 29:45Speaker 1: just one night, but the positive signs of the bullpen
- 29:48Speaker 1: and what they can continue to do. Your opinions were
- 29:52Speaker 1: already getting some on the text line about Kyle Raley,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and I submit again they should put him on the
- 29:58Speaker 1: injured list, give him a week and a half off,
- 30:00Speaker 1: a mental and physical break, and then he's still have
- 30:03Speaker 1: him for one hundred and ten games. And although there
- 30:05Speaker 1: is someone on the text line, I'm from the two
- 30:07Speaker 1: oh six, he was the two oh six who said
- 30:11Speaker 1: you need him for the pitchers, the two five three. Rather,
- 30:14Speaker 1: Kyle is valuable as a catcher to the pitchers, that
- 30:17Speaker 1: is true, and if you put him on an injured
- 30:21Speaker 1: list that you'd be missing that. Now, Garver has had
- 30:23Speaker 1: a pretty good season as far as he's really good
- 30:27Speaker 1: at challenges. By the way, but now that Garver's been
- 30:31Speaker 1: here for a year plus a couple of years, they
- 30:34Speaker 1: the pitching staff knows him and trust him more. I
- 30:37Speaker 1: would submit it would be worth losing Raleigh to the
- 30:41Speaker 1: pitching staff for ten days for what you get back
- 30:43Speaker 1: in a refreshed Raleigh and hopefully healed Raleigh and rested Raleigh.
- 30:47Speaker 1: So two oh six I did not see Alvarez marinerd
- 30:54Speaker 1: Munas through one fastball to Avarez. I don't know that
- 30:56Speaker 1: he threw one fastball to Alvarez. Maybe he did watch,
- 31:00Speaker 1: but maybe he did, but he The point was the
- 31:03Speaker 1: entire ending he was fastball and the change up after
- 31:07Speaker 1: an ending full of fastballs is what completely fooled Alvarez
- 31:10Speaker 1: with the game on the line. I mean, it's easy
- 31:13Speaker 1: to go back online and see what they he's missing.
- 31:16Speaker 1: The two zero six is missing the point here. The
- 31:18Speaker 1: point is that he went fastball to start that ending,
- 31:21Speaker 1: including the single to by al Tuve, far more than
- 31:25Speaker 1: he had all season, and that set up the game
- 31:28Speaker 1: ending change up that, of course he wasn't Alvarez was
- 31:31Speaker 1: not expecting. So thank you for the erada on that
- 31:35Speaker 1: Munos as. Munos is going to take this team a
- 31:38Speaker 1: lot further the way they play one run games with
- 31:41Speaker 1: the offense they have. We'll readback to texting the Tacoma
- 31:44Speaker 1: Dodge Tex line four nine four five to one up.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Next back to the NFL and back to the scheduling.
- 31:50Speaker 1: No Sports organization does scheduling like the NFL does trickling
- 31:54Speaker 1: it out. The Sporting NFL and ESPN announced the first
- 31:57Speaker 1: Monday Night game. How that affects the Seahawks for their
- 32:00Speaker 1: league opener Wednesday, September Night. We'll talk about that and
- 32:02Speaker 1: we'll give you all the known games so far on
- 32:04Speaker 1: the schedule. Tomorrow. Another announcement that affects the Seahawks potentially,
- 32:10Speaker 1: we'll talk about that next On ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kidd
- 32:21Speaker 1: on ninety three point three KJRFM. We'll be talking a
- 32:25Speaker 1: lot about the Mariners. They're bullpen rising up with some
- 32:27Speaker 1: unlikely heroes, Kyle Roley in his situation, and what we're
- 32:31Speaker 1: suggesting the Mariners can do about his hitless streak, which
- 32:35Speaker 1: is now the longest in the major leagues. This week
- 32:37Speaker 1: this season, oh for thirty four oh for forty plate appearances.
- 32:42Speaker 1: If you miss that, I can go to the iHeartRadio
- 32:43Speaker 1: app nine through three KJR or nine three three KJR
- 32:46Speaker 1: dot com. Go listen to our podcast post after the show.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Tomorrow is the next iteration of the NFL scheduled Drip
- 32:54Speaker 1: Drip Drip they're going to announce the international games early
- 32:57Speaker 1: tomorrow morning. There's a possibility the Seahawks. There are two
- 33:01Speaker 1: possibilities the Seahawks can play international games that are left
- 33:03Speaker 1: based on what's already been announced. They could potentially play
- 33:07Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers in Mexico City, though I'm not
- 33:11Speaker 1: sure that they'd give the forty nine ers a division
- 33:13Speaker 1: game in Australia against the Rams and then another division
- 33:16Speaker 1: game internationally in Mexico against the world champion Seahawks. And
- 33:21Speaker 1: the other possibility remains a Commander's game in London. The
- 33:25Speaker 1: Seahawks have a road date Penncil schedule. It will play
- 33:29Speaker 1: a road game against Washington and Washington as a home
- 33:31Speaker 1: team for one of the multiple London games the nfls
- 33:34Speaker 1: putting on. Of course, the Seahawks in twenty eighteen played
- 33:36Speaker 1: in Wembley in London. I was there, pitch side, outdoor
- 33:41Speaker 1: press boxes in Europe, Chris. They're great. The atmosphere loads
- 33:45Speaker 1: right on the field. It's pretty cool. Munich was the
- 33:48Speaker 1: same way, but Raiders Seahawks played in Wembley what's now
- 33:53Speaker 1: almost eight it was eight years ago. It was the
- 33:55Speaker 1: week Paul Allen died. That's The only other time the
- 33:59Speaker 1: Seahawks in England there are only other international game, of course,
- 34:02Speaker 1: was in Munich, as I said, against the Buccaneers a
- 34:05Speaker 1: couple of years after the London game. And that's it.
- 34:08Speaker 1: You would think the Super Bowl champions would be an
- 34:11Speaker 1: international attraction. They are, and the Seahawks have been expecting
- 34:15Speaker 1: to be an international game this coming season. But now
- 34:19Speaker 1: there's only two chances left. We'll find out tomorrow if
- 34:22Speaker 1: the Seahawks get in Mexico City against the forty nine
- 34:24Speaker 1: Ers or the Commanders in London. We also know that
- 34:29Speaker 1: the Seahawks are not going to play the Chiefs. It
- 34:30Speaker 1: was announced this morning. As we mentioned earlier, Chiefs Broncos,
- 34:33Speaker 1: the first Monday night game on ESPN ABC going to
- 34:37Speaker 1: be Week one. That's that matchup, So the Chiefs won't
- 34:40Speaker 1: be coming here. It's down to four possibilities for the
- 34:44Speaker 1: Seahawks to open the season the NFL season Wednesday, September
- 34:47Speaker 1: ninth at Lumenfield. It could be the Bears, it could
- 34:50Speaker 1: be the Cardinals, it could be the Patriots of the Chargers,
- 34:53Speaker 1: and we've talked about a couple of reasons why we
- 34:55Speaker 1: think it's going to be the Bears. Mike Katlike Sports
- 34:59Speaker 1: Illustrated Report for the New England Patriots and the NFL
- 35:03Speaker 1: at large. He's going to join us at eleven o'clock
- 35:05Speaker 1: in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. He thinks that it should
- 35:07Speaker 1: be Patriots Seahawks. I think that might be a little
- 35:09Speaker 1: bit of an Homer bias there from New England, but
- 35:11Speaker 1: he thinks it should be a Super Bowl rematch for
- 35:13Speaker 1: the Week one game. Here are what we know as
- 35:17Speaker 1: the known games. Forty nine ers rams in Australia, Thursday,
- 35:21Speaker 1: September tenth, the day after the Seahawks opened the NFL
- 35:25Speaker 1: season on the first Wednesday opener, Cowboys at Giants is
- 35:29Speaker 1: the week Wednesday night game. We talked about yesterday. Why
- 35:32Speaker 1: ridiculous that was? Ryan Dunleavy from the New York Post
- 35:36Speaker 1: even agreed that that was kind of ridiculous. The Giants
- 35:40Speaker 1: got the Sunday night game. Week one Chiefs Broncos is
- 35:43Speaker 1: the Week one Monday night game. Lions at Bills. That
- 35:46Speaker 1: is going to be the second week Thursday night game.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Week two. That is the Bills opening of their brand
- 35:52Speaker 1: new Palace Stadium. Lions at Bills on the second week
- 35:56Speaker 1: of the season Thursday night on Amazon Prime. That stadium,
- 35:59Speaker 1: by the way, is not in downtown Buffalo. It's way
- 36:02Speaker 1: out in Orchard Park, just like the currently it's built.
- 36:04Speaker 1: It's built in the parking lot of the current stadium
- 36:07Speaker 1: now the old stadium, so it's not any closer to
- 36:10Speaker 1: all the fans on the downtown Buffalo. On the east
- 36:13Speaker 1: side of Buffalo. It's a track. It's a half hour
- 36:16Speaker 1: or so and at the two lane road and usually snowing,
- 36:18Speaker 1: but once you're there, it's a great environment in western
- 36:21Speaker 1: New York. The two other known games involved Chris's dad's team,
- 36:25Speaker 1: the Cowboys. They have three known games already, all in oh.
- 36:29Speaker 2: All primetime.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Huh yeah, oh, look at that sucked but last year
- 36:33Speaker 3: but somehow I have three primetime games.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I love you, dad.
- 36:36Speaker 2: But the point still stands. They should have one.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Ravens Cowboys in Brazil in Week three, so the Cowboys
- 36:43Speaker 1: will be the feature game in the very first game
- 36:45Speaker 1: NFL regular season game in Brazil and Rio Dejian Arrow
- 36:49Speaker 1: against Baltimore. That maybe probably with that dun that's they
- 36:54Speaker 1: get to fix their defense. And then Thanksgiving they always
- 36:57Speaker 1: play on Thanksgiving. They're going to play at home in
- 37:00Speaker 1: their traditional game. But it's against the Eagles. We know
- 37:02Speaker 1: that now it's an Eagles had Cowboys Thanksgiving Week twelve,
- 37:08Speaker 1: and as I said, the international games to be announced tomorrow,
- 37:11Speaker 1: you would think the Seahawks are going to be in
- 37:13Speaker 1: a lot of primetime games, potential holiday games. They're going
- 37:17Speaker 1: to be up to three Christmas Day games. There's going
- 37:21Speaker 1: to be a primetime Thanksgiving game. I would think the
- 37:25Speaker 1: Seahawks are in play for all of that. Now that
- 37:27Speaker 1: they've won the Super Bowl, they should be getting max
- 37:30Speaker 1: primetime in spots, holiday spots. Christmas is on a Thursday
- 37:37Speaker 1: this year, is that right?
- 37:38Speaker 2: Ah, I believe you're correct. Yeah, let's just go with it.
- 37:42Speaker 2: You know the TEXTI will let us know.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it is on a Friday. So that's not as
- 37:48Speaker 1: bad as Wednesday at the Christmas was on a couple
- 37:51Speaker 1: years ago, but bad for the players that is it
- 37:54Speaker 1: was a short week, but Friday for Christmas games. The
- 37:57Speaker 1: Seahawks are definitely in play for that. And I will
- 38:00Speaker 1: tell you just anecdotally, the league loves for their primary games,
- 38:04Speaker 1: the crowd noise and the weather factor that is Seattle
- 38:08Speaker 1: and the later in the season potent. In particular, they
- 38:12Speaker 1: love to feature the Seahawks at home because of the environment,
- 38:16Speaker 1: how it plays out on television nationally, the noise and
- 38:19Speaker 1: all of it. So it wouldn't surprise me at all
- 38:21Speaker 1: if the Seahawks have a Christmas Day game a Friday
- 38:24Speaker 1: this year at home. I sure would love it to
- 38:27Speaker 1: be at home. Selfishly, I had to travel at Christmas
- 38:30Speaker 1: night to Chicago. Not that I'm complaining. I love my
- 38:32Speaker 1: job and I'm cherished in privileged to be there, but
- 38:35Speaker 1: I had to Getting on a plane Christmas Day is nothing.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Anyone would be upset that you didn't want to travel
- 38:40Speaker 3: on Christmas Day.
- 38:42Speaker 1: That plane was not full to Chicago. I was.
- 38:45Speaker 2: You were probably with people that weren't too excited either.
- 38:48Speaker 1: That hotel was not full in the Miracle Mile in Chicago.
- 38:51Speaker 3: You are on the list of people that are right
- 38:53Speaker 3: there with you Christmas Day and I got to do
- 38:55Speaker 3: something called work.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's tough. I'm not complaining. I once missed my
- 38:59Speaker 1: play in Dallas. They had a day before the day
- 39:03Speaker 1: that you remember when Earl Thomas after the game went
- 39:05Speaker 1: over to the Cowboys locker room and stud kidding me.
- 39:07Speaker 1: That game was December twenty fourth, and I stayed up
- 39:11Speaker 1: all night to write three days worth of story, so
- 39:14Speaker 1: I had nothing to write when I got home Christmas
- 39:16Speaker 1: Day for the kids and the family, and I met
- 39:18Speaker 1: the only time I've missed a plane in my career.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I got up. I don't know why. I just laid
- 39:24Speaker 1: down on my bed and got up. And my flight
- 39:26Speaker 1: was at six out of DFW and I woke up
- 39:28Speaker 1: at like five point twenty and I ran like crazy
- 39:32Speaker 1: to get driving. I think I left the rental car
- 39:34Speaker 1: running at the drop off place and I ran into
- 39:36Speaker 1: the airport and I got there as the gate was
- 39:38Speaker 1: closing Christmas morning six am. I said, come on, man, please,
- 39:44Speaker 1: I'm trying to go home to see my kids, my family. Sorry,
- 39:47Speaker 1: ten minutes before departure, and the plane just sat there
- 39:51Speaker 1: for like fifteen minutes, and I watched it just sit there.
- 39:54Speaker 1: And I spent half my Christmas Day in THEFW airport.
- 39:58Speaker 1: That was. That was I'd call in my stocking for
- 40:01Speaker 1: my wife when I got home from that up next.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Mike Katlig knows about the NFL and holiday games. He
- 40:06Speaker 1: covers the Patriots and the league for Sports Illustrated in
- 40:09Speaker 1: New England. He joined us on the Beacon Hotline Beacon
- 40:12Speaker 1: Plumbing Hotline next and eleven thirty where redback your text.
- 40:15Speaker 1: All that's coming up on ninety three point three KJRFM
