- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Vegas Reveal presented by Level Up Law starts now.
- 0:35Dayna Roselli: All right, it's a different skyline just like that.
- 0:38Dayna Roselli: I mean, the Tropicana went up in 1957.
- 0:41Sean McAllister: And it came down in about 30 seconds.
- 1:14Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I mean, we had a lot to do because we had to get up and do our um segment for Los Angeles today.
- 1:19Dayna Roselli: So we just got off that.
- 1:21Dayna Roselli: We do a segment on KCal every other Thursday, but they asked us, hey, are you guys going to be out at the Trop Implosion?
- 1:26Dayna Roselli: Will you do a morning talk back with us?
- 1:29Dayna Roselli: So we did that.
- 1:30Dayna Roselli: And the takeaway, real quick there, Sean, is people are interested in this.
- 1:35Dayna Roselli: The anchors that we talk with, Sheba and Jamie, were so like just fascinated with the whole implosion thing.
- 1:43Sean McAllister: Oh, well, it's because implosions in and of themselves are not a uniquely vegas thing, but the way that Vegas does implosions is a very uniquely vegas thing.
- 1:55Sean McAllister: I mean, this has turned into a production, a show, a spectacle as we bid farewell to uh properties that have graced the Las Vegas Strip and elsewhere in Las Vegas for decades.
- 2:11Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 2:11Dayna Roselli: I mean, the Tropicana opened in 1957.
- 2:13Dayna Roselli: I think a lot of people feel it probably was time to close, but that doesn't take away all the memories and, you know, all the shows and all the staff that worked there, um, you know, and how much it really added to what Las Vegas is today.
- 2:34Sean McAllister: Yeah, and I know we are gonna get into uh everything that that we experienced out there, saw, heard, felt.
- 2:42Sean McAllister: Um, but just to set the scene, we were out at uh it was a a private party that was hosted by the A's, the Major League Baseball team, and Bally's Corporation, uh, who owns the Tropicana, and that site, they're working uh Bally's is working with the A's um to build a Major League Baseball Stadium on that site.
- 3:06Sean McAllister: But it was in a uh parking lot directly across the street from the Tropicana, and we had a a I mean a dead-on view of everything that was going on there.
- 3:18Dayna Roselli: It was good.
- 3:18Dayna Roselli: When I was looking at the map, I was like, oh, we're gonna be really close.
- 3:21Dayna Roselli: And we were, but we were a good distance away to be able to watch it from afar to see both towers actually fall on the show.
- 3:29Dayna Roselli: It was just perfect placement.
- 3:30Dayna Roselli: We're so thankful for being able to get there and get that access.
- 3:34Sean McAllister: Yeah, for sure.
- 3:34Sean McAllister: So there was a uh VIP party that was set up, and then there was a separate area where all of the media, really from across the country, there were national media outlets there, every, you know, local TV station, obviously.
- 3:49Sean McAllister: Vegas Revealed was out there uh with a front row seat to all the festivities.
- 3:55Dayna Roselli: It was very organized and enjoyed being out there.
- 3:58Dayna Roselli: Um, got to see a lot of the A's management on site at the party.
- 4:03Dayna Roselli: Uh, they were mingling, enjoying meeting everyone.
- 4:06Dayna Roselli: So that was nice.
- 4:07Dayna Roselli: And like you said, Bally's was there as well.
- 4:09Dayna Roselli: We saw Steve Hill from the LVC VA, who we're also gonna talk to here in a minute.
- 4:14Dayna Roselli: Um, but it just was nice to see everyone out there shaking hands and taking the time to be up at two in the morning and celebrate, you know, and commemorate this implosion.
- 4:27Dayna Roselli: So um the fireworks show was incredible.
- 4:31Dayna Roselli: And then the drone show, they use 555 drones with I love how they paid uh respect to the old Tropicana sign.
- 4:39Dayna Roselli: Yes, they made that, you know, with the drones, and then it there was a lot of A's logos in the drone show.
- 4:45Dayna Roselli: There certainly were a lot of branding all over at the party.
- 4:48Dayna Roselli: Uh, we received a hat, a baseball, commemorative baseball.
- 4:52Dayna Roselli: There were lit up A's signs that you could take pictures with.
- 4:55Dayna Roselli: So to us, you know, it's like there's gonna be a stadium and the Oakland A's are coming to Las Vegas and it's gonna be the Las Vegas A's, even though it's not, you know, there's like 0.01% still left to do.
- 5:07Sean McAllister: Right.
- 5:07Sean McAllister: There's some, you know, I's to dot, T's to cross.
- 5:11Sean McAllister: Um, but we are told that it we are getting a baseball team here in Las Vegas.
- 5:19Sean McAllister: But before we go any further, let's go ahead and uh take you out to the uh the sounds of the Tropicana implosion.
- 6:03Sean McAllister: Standing out there is how much the ground shook and how much like my organs, I felt them shaking when those blasts of of dynamite went off inside those hotel towers.
- 6:17Dayna Roselli: I don't know if I did, to be honest.
- 6:20Dayna Roselli: Really?
- 6:20Dayna Roselli: Yeah, no.
- 6:21Dayna Roselli: I mean, I don't know.
- 6:22Dayna Roselli: I didn't pick up on that.
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: I was so amazed at how quick it went down.
- 6:28Dayna Roselli: In front of I was just like, in one second, I was trying to like get a shot of it, and I was focused on the drone sign, the sign of the Tropicana, and then all of a sudden it was going down and it the one tower was gone.
- 6:39Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 6:39Dayna Roselli: And I was like, wow.
- 6:41Dayna Roselli: Um, yeah, and then the other one, obviously, that that was a bigger rumble, I feel like tower number two.
- 6:47Sean McAllister: Tower number two, that's yes, and that's the rumble that I'm talking about.
- 6:51Sean McAllister: Because that was a closer tower to us, but it was uh almost 2,000 pounds of explosives that were used to bring those towers down.
- 7:01Sean McAllister: Uh I think something like 22,000 uh linear feet of detonation cable was strung throughout that site.
- 7:11Sean McAllister: And if you took that amount of cable and ran it around the A's uh ballpark that's going to be built here, you know, run it around the bases, it would go around the bases more than 61 times.
- 7:26Dayna Roselli: Really?
- 7:26Sean McAllister: That's how much detonate detonation cable was used.
- 7:30Dayna Roselli: Well, remember after the dust settled for a minute, we were all waiting to get out, we looked at the pile.
- 7:34Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 7:35Dayna Roselli: That was kind of creepy.
- 7:36Dayna Roselli: And it was still smoking and there was just like all the I was just like, it was a very eerie look, yes.
- 7:43Dayna Roselli: I don't know if I liked that.
- 7:44Dayna Roselli: That made creep me out a little.
- 7:45Sean McAllister: Well, even when I got back home, like ghosts are rising at this moment.
- 7:50Sean McAllister: No kidding.
- 7:50Sean McAllister: There's we're probably a lot, there was a lot of Tropicana history that was involved in that dust that filled the sky.
- 7:58Sean McAllister: But even an hour after uh the implosion, when I was getting back home, I live about four miles from the Tropicana, and the dust had drifted over to the area where I live.
- 8:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 8:10Sean McAllister: And it was weird.
- 8:12Sean McAllister: You could see it in the street lights.
- 8:14Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because it definitely went east, because where I live north of there, we had nothing.
- 8:18Dayna Roselli: It was totally clear.
- 8:19Dayna Roselli: So I was like, oh, I was surprised.
- 8:21Dayna Roselli: I didn't really see much in the air, you know.
- 8:23Dayna Roselli: But so yeah, it definitely went east.
- 8:25Dayna Roselli: It we it was literally like not even a slight breeze.
- 8:29Dayna Roselli: So whatever little push we had, it was going east.
- 8:34Dayna Roselli: And it was what a warm night.
- 8:36Dayna Roselli: Perfect.
- 8:37Dayna Roselli: I'm I'm all for the the warm night implosions.
- 8:39Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we could have been out there freezing, you know.
- 8:42Sean McAllister: I mean, it was it ended up being an ideal evening to or morning to uh bring down a a couple towers.
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 8:51Dayna Roselli: Um, listen, before we get into a little bit more, why don't we do our interview with Steve Hill from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority?
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: We talked to him a little bit about implosions, their significance here in Las Vegas, why we do them, and then also the future of this site as a baseball stadium.
- 9:10Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 9:11Dayna Roselli: Um, well, let's just talk about what a momentous occasion this is.
- 9:14Dayna Roselli: Obviously, I mean this this casino and hotel has been here since 1957.
- 9:18Dayna Roselli: Kind of hard to believe.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it really is.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Um, it even predates me.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: So um it has been uh an iconic part of Las Vegas for decades.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Um it was, you know, in its early years, a part of what made Las Vegas what it what we are now.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Um and we're here partly tonight to honor that and then to look forward to what's what's to come.
- 9:42Dayna Roselli: Do you feel like in Las Vegas, like, emotions are a thing?
- 9:45Dayna Roselli: It's like what it's all about.
- 9:47Dayna Roselli: People think it's weird, but we think it's normal.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Well, it it is normal here.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: And uh so many people um have a connection to the property here.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: They're so recognizable.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: So many people have stayed in these rooms that come here to have fun.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, in other cities, if they have a building come down, nobody's got, you know, very few people have a connection to it.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Here, that Tropicana has had millions of people come through it.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: And so it it it it feels something.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, and that's different than other cities, and it's what makes these implosions such a special guy.
- 10:23Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we're so different.
- 10:24Dayna Roselli: So many people ask us what's next.
- 10:26Dayna Roselli: Are the A's really coming here?
- 10:27Dayna Roselli: Just can you just give me a quick little synopsis on, you know, where we stand with that?
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Yes, the A's are coming.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Um they have the money to do it, they've committed, uh, they're in the process of making it happen.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Uh the agreements with the stadium authority are nearing completion.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Um, they're on track.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: And the chatter you hear around and the questions and the skepticism, um, I just tell folks wait a few years and uh you're gonna see a baseball stadium up here.
- 10:57Dayna Roselli: I got an A's baseball hat in my little bag, so I'm ready to wear it and represent.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: All right, that's great.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: We're looking forward to it.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Thanks, thank you.
- 11:04Dayna Roselli: Okay, you heard it from him, and I think we'll have a better idea of everything, the situation.
- 11:09Dayna Roselli: Um, just in a few months, I think we needed to get the implosion done, you know, and um get that site cleaned up and then we'll rock and roll.
- 11:19Sean McAllister: Yeah, and if you go to our uh Vegas Revealed YouTube channel, we have uh there's a live stream that we had going on uh throughout the entire implosion.
- 11:30Sean McAllister: So you can go check that out.
- 11:31Sean McAllister: Um, we also have some video that um we'll be posting in our one of our upcoming TV episodes that shows those piles of rubble, and it could take uh a couple months uh to get that all cleared away.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:48Sean McAllister: Because uh the crews had cleared out all of the the lower level buildings, the the buildings that were only a couple stories high.
- 11:57Sean McAllister: That was all cleared out.
- 11:58Sean McAllister: The rest of the site was uh clear of everything, so it was only those two towers remaining, and now they're just crumpled piles of steel and cement.
- 12:11Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I know.
- 12:12Dayna Roselli: Gosh, we were just there for a holiday show that you did, you know, with the the fundraiser that you do every year.
- 12:18Dayna Roselli: I know it feels like yesterday, and now it's just completely gone.
- 12:21Sean McAllister: Christmas time, and then we were over there the the last night that the Tropicana was open in April and the doors closed, and here we are, Trop No More.
- 12:29Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 12:30Dayna Roselli: I'm not gonna lie, I really like my commemorative baseball that they gave us.
- 12:33Sean McAllister: It was it's pretty cool.
- 12:34Dayna Roselli: I have it like because we get a lot of little things that go along with events, and I have areas for them, but this one I kind of displayed nicely in a cabinet.
- 12:45Dayna Roselli: I like it.
- 12:45Sean McAllister: I know, need to get one of those baseball holders, yeah.
- 12:49Sean McAllister: Those acrylic baseball trophy holders.
- 12:52Dayna Roselli: And it was nice to see a lot of the uh OG media out there too, the long time Las Vegas media.
- 12:58Dayna Roselli: I think you know, there's something to be said.
- 13:00Dayna Roselli: Um, I'll just gonna tap us, you know, give us a little pat on the back.
- 13:04Dayna Roselli: I mean, there's something to be said living here and working in Las Vegas in the media a long time to really get these things, then it's also fun for the younger, you know, crews coming in and this being their first time seeing something like that.
- 13:17Sean McAllister: So right.
- 13:18Sean McAllister: Um Yeah, I mean, dating back to, you know, you came out to Vegas 2004.
- 13:24Sean McAllister: I was right after you in 2005.
- 13:26Sean McAllister: Yeah, so we've seen many implosions.
- 13:30Dayna Roselli: Stardust, Frontier 20 years, yeah, that's gone by.
- 13:34Dayna Roselli: That's a lot.
- 13:35Dayna Roselli: Jeez.
- 13:36Dayna Roselli: We're getting old.
- 13:37Dayna Roselli: Man.
- 13:38Dayna Roselli: Hey, can we talk about those uh bathrooms they had there at the uh site, by the way?
- 13:43Sean McAllister: I I saw the trailers, but I didn't go in.
- 13:45Dayna Roselli: It this was like bat, like I don't even it portable bathroom to the stars or something.
- 13:51Dayna Roselli: This was the nicest portable bathroom I've ever been in.
- 13:54Sean McAllister: Like luxury restroom.
- 13:56Dayna Roselli: It was like, yeah, and I forget what it was called, like the something valet or up.
- 14:00Dayna Roselli: I don't know.
- 14:01Dayna Roselli: It was called something.
- 14:01Dayna Roselli: Anyway, yeah, they were it was really nice.
- 14:03Dayna Roselli: Ooh, yeah, it was super nice.
- 14:07Dayna Roselli: I was shocked.
- 14:08Dayna Roselli: I've never been in a nicer portable bathroom.
- 14:10Dayna Roselli: Anyway.
- 14:12Sean McAllister: So go to a Vegas implosion and you'll be impressed by the bathroom.
- 14:16Dayna Roselli: Since we don't have tips today, that's my tip.
- 14:18Dayna Roselli: Find out who the who do who the mobile company was there and then uh go get them for your next event.
- 14:24Sean McAllister: Johnny on the spot's a thing of the past.
- 14:26Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh, for sure.
- 14:28Dayna Roselli: It was some good stuff.
- 14:29Dayna Roselli: Um, and we all got out.
- 14:31Dayna Roselli: It was very orderly.
- 14:32Dayna Roselli: I like that.
- 14:32Dayna Roselli: Um so again, uh apparently uh state-of-the-art ballpark is coming, a world-class entertainment resort destination by Baileys Corporation.
- 14:41Dayna Roselli: So a lot of big plans for that site.
- 14:44Dayna Roselli: Um you know, and however you feel about it, I mean, we're moving on.
- 14:48Dayna Roselli: It's it's the next step.
- 14:49Dayna Roselli: We'll see what what happens.
- 14:51Sean McAllister: And I mean, if if the Vegas Golden Knights, if the Raiders, if the Las Vegas Aces are any indication of uh how fans in Las Vegas will come out and support a team here, I mean uh those games are just about always uh full.
- 15:15Dayna Roselli: Yeah, always.
- 15:16Dayna Roselli: I mean, and it's another thing, and it's gonna be a beautiful you know, if and when it happens, which you know it's supposedly happening.
- 15:22Dayna Roselli: I still am always just like, you know, longtime journalism backgrounds.
- 15:27Dayna Roselli: I don't want to say yes, it's happening, and then it's out of the way.
- 15:30Dayna Roselli: You said it was yes, and you don't know what you're talking about, fake news, you know, that whole new generation.
- 15:35Dayna Roselli: Anyway, um, I don't want to be that.
- 15:37Dayna Roselli: So yeah, but um it's gonna be beautiful the way it looks.
- 15:41Sean McAllister: It looks like yeah, it looks like it's a great corner.
- 15:44Sean McAllister: The latest renderings look like uh almost reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House.
- 15:49Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that looks really nice.
- 15:50Dayna Roselli: So I'm all for it.
- 15:52Dayna Roselli: I like new things.
- 15:53Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 15:53Dayna Roselli: That's why I live here.
- 15:55Sean McAllister: Uh something else, uh our uh colleague Johnny Katz, who's uh uh columnist with the Las Vegas Review Journal here, our newspaper, um, he was putting out some tweets.
- 16:07Sean McAllister: I guess uh somebody was asking about the the stained glass ceiling that used to be at the Tropicana.
- 16:13Sean McAllister: And um I think somebody asked whether that would be incorporated into any venues at the the baseball stadium.
- 16:21Sean McAllister: And um nothing definitive yet, but that stained glass ceiling is in storage right now.
- 16:28Sean McAllister: That was not demolished, that was saved and will likely pop up uh somewhere else uh in the future, along with you know some of the other uh artifacts that were saved from the Tropicana.
- 16:41Sean McAllister: So I think the legacy of that property is going to live on in the next iteration of that property.
- 16:49Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I'm sure it will.
- 16:50Dayna Roselli: Um and they did uh give one of the signs or maybe a few of the signs to the Neon Museum.
- 16:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 16:55Dayna Roselli: They did that shortly after they closed the door.
- 16:57Dayna Roselli: So if you want to see the Tropicana Las Vegas sign, it's over there at the Neon Museum.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 17:03Dayna Roselli: So um we're good at preserving all those, you know, historic signs here.
- 17:07Dayna Roselli: So we are.
- 17:08Dayna Roselli: Uh I think that's all I have to say today.
- 17:10Dayna Roselli: You?
- 17:10Sean McAllister: Yeah, no, I was just gonna say, I know it's it's been a long uh couple days with very little sleep.
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:18Sean McAllister: But um, if you are feeling nostalgic about the Tropicana and the fact that it's no longer here, uh, and we have a couple uh TV episodes on our Vegas Revealed YouTube channel where we have gone down memory lane and shown some pictures throughout the years and some video throughout the years.
- 17:38Sean McAllister: So um it will live on on our Vegas Revealed YouTube channel.
- 17:42Sean McAllister: If you ever feel sad about the trap not being here anymore, just go and revisit those episodes.
- 17:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 17:48Dayna Roselli: And you know, if you like looking at the videos, they're all over our socials.
- 17:51Dayna Roselli: I posted like a two-minute one on our TikTok.
- 17:54Dayna Roselli: Uh, we've got the live stream on the YouTube.
- 17:56Dayna Roselli: I just put a short up.
- 17:58Dayna Roselli: Got things on our Facebook, Vegas Revealed Facebook, my personal Facebook, our Instagram.
- 18:02Dayna Roselli: So if you want to go look at it and you haven't seen it yet, uh that's where you will find it on all our social media.
- 18:08Dayna Roselli: So um then we are what else are we doing coming up?
- 18:13Dayna Roselli: I'm trying to think of.
- 18:14Dayna Roselli: Oh, we're going to Dita Von Tees.
- 18:15Sean McAllister: We're going to Dita Von Tees over at Voltaire.
- 18:17Sean McAllister: Right.
- 18:18Sean McAllister: Uh she's opened a new show, a burlesque show, but with a heavy, heavy uh vintage showgirl influence on that production.
- 18:28Sean McAllister: So we're excited to get over there and and see that.
- 18:31Sean McAllister: It looks like a lot of the costumes from Jubilee, one of the long-running uh showgirl shows here on the Las Vegas strip.
- 18:39Sean McAllister: It looks like some of those costumes might be involved in the show as well.
- 18:43Sean McAllister: So that'll be good to see.
- 18:44Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because she got them for the other show, and then now she moved to Voltaire.
- 18:48Dayna Roselli: So when this is a little bit more of an intimate space, I think it'll be good for her.
- 18:51Dayna Roselli: Uh we're also going to uh to a dinner over at Giada next week.
- 18:55Dayna Roselli: Um we know the uh PBR's in town next week.
- 18:58Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 18:59Dayna Roselli: The professional bull riding yeah, professional bull riders, professional bull riders, PBR.
- 19:05Dayna Roselli: Oh, professional bull riders.
- 19:08Dayna Roselli: Okay, god, I was like, wait, isn't that one word?
- 19:12Dayna Roselli: See, this is literally butter and jelly and and relish.
- 19:17Dayna Roselli: No, we're going on like three hours of sleep.
- 19:22Sean McAllister: Yeah, I was gonna say three is generous, but um, yeah, so our brains aren't firing on all cylinders right now.
- 19:28Sean McAllister: I know, but yeah, PBR is coming to town.
- 19:30Sean McAllister: That's always a big deal.
- 19:32Sean McAllister: Uh and then followed by National Finals Rodeo coming up in December.
- 19:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 19:38Dayna Roselli: It's busy here.
- 19:40Dayna Roselli: We've got F1 coming up, Formula One, all sorts of stuff.
- 19:43Dayna Roselli: And like we mentioned last week, this is the time to come.
- 19:46Dayna Roselli: Our weather is perfect.
- 19:47Dayna Roselli: We're in the 90s now.
- 19:48Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh.
- 19:48Sean McAllister: And then the the extended outlook.
- 19:51Sean McAllister: We have highs in the the mid-80s coming our way.
- 19:56Sean McAllister: So this really is an ideal time.
- 20:00Sean McAllister: Finally, we've been waiting for those hundreds to go away and knock on wood.
- 20:06Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 20:07Dayna Roselli: Spread the word about our podcast on threads.
- 20:09Dayna Roselli: I don't know what threads like, the algorithm there is so Vegas, and it must know, like it really knows you, right?
- 20:16Dayna Roselli: When you everyone tweets about Vegas, and so many people are either A moving here, or I've seen so many people say they're coming to Vegas, um, they have a day alone because maybe they're coming with husband, their husband, and they're at a conference.
- 20:30Dayna Roselli: So many.
