- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: hashtag no music no intro we are back the Saints block party podcast presented brought to you by precious works at low sea for any business website needs reach out to our guy of a john and we are a static to be recording this episode right now we didn't think he'd be back on so soon but
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks and white receiver things to talk about, and it makes me like, get in.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, we did it.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: uh, if you have been living under a rock in the draft couple of weeks ago, the Saints added Troy and Tyson right receiver from Arizona State at pick eight, then they came back in round four and added another right receiver in Bryce Lens from North Dakota State.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then in the later rounds, they added Barry and Brown, who's more of a return special.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: So they added legitimately three
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: when you I tell you Ryan and I were floating in New Orleans.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: We were floating in New Orleans when this happened.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: And like I know we're focused on our receivers, but still kind of part the whole equation that they added Oscar Dept, a tight end and round three, you are seeing truly like, Kella Moore is really building the offense in his vision and what he wants to see.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: Matt, thank you for coming and joining us so soon.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: Just let's just dive into it, man.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like a first initial thoughts when you saw the Jordan Tyson pick at eight because I just remember being it in the having the conversation if you in the lobby.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, man, I think they really like Jordan Tyson like I think they like who.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: And anyway, when you were on our episode, a couple of weeks before the draft, I said, well, think if they went through our receive route, it was between going to be lemon and Tyson, like I didn't think our note tape was going to be in that equation.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: And it didn't matter because you went for overall, but just your initial immediate reaction when that that pic was made.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, thought this was great news for Jordan Tyson specifically because there were a lot of landing spots where I would have been a little bit nervous about his deployment.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's always tough when you're and this is why I love doing the post draft and now analysis almost more than the pre draft because pre draft you're working in theories.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: You're trying to project for all 32 teams.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so when you sit down and you rank these guys going into the draft,
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: You do have to account for like some level of risk if they just go to and not not when I'm talking about landing spot like oh, they're they're with a bad quarterback or there's not that many targets available.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just a lot of guys you just get doomed because of the scheme that they fall into and kind of what
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: ends up being like they just get mis-evaluated as players.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: I always come back to a guy in Traylon Berks who I was lower than consensus on going into his NFL draft 2022.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, don't take this as a victory lap because I was higher than consensus on John Dodson and I did nage well either.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I mean, I'm just saying, but with with Burx was tough because I thought there was a path forward for him, but the thing that could not happen to him was that a team would look at him and say, okay, he's like six to plus 220 pounds plus
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: he's going to be our X receiver and that's exactly what happened with the Tennessee Titans.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: They took him to replace a guy in AJ Brown who he drew a lot of pre-draft comparisons to AJ Brown literally because their dimensions were the same and like that's it.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, well, I don't plan anything like AJ Brown.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, so what are we doing here and I just am always worried about certain particular guys going into going to the draft falling into the one of those spots.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: Tyson was one of those guys, now a better prospect in Berks and my opinion and didn't have necessarily some of the same red flags, but I did think there was a risk of something looking at him.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: at six to over 200 pounds and the really twitchy movements that he has within his route running and seeing him as an ex receiver as a guy that you're going to stick on the perimeter on ball and let him go against top corners against Pressman coverage and I think that there are weaknesses in Tyson's game when he's going against press coverage.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: His success rate versus press and reception perception is not very good, relative to some of the other prospects that went
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: That being said, he is the number one zone beater in the class among the players charted this year, and it's not even just number one in success rate versus zone coverage in this class.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's a top five mark since 2021.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: Among power five receivers, and I know like power five, the conferences are all weird now, but you generally get the the just I'm going for here.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: Among the 261 draft class, he's top five in that metric.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's up there with guys like Garrett Wilson, guys like Drake London, Travis Hunter, obviously was in this regard, even though he's a part-time receiver, part-time corner, when he was playing receiver, he was a great zone beater, and then there is the aforementioned John Dodson in there.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, it's not a full guarantee, but it's a pretty good impressive mark for him to be up there, especially when you consider some of the other parts of his profile.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: So, when I got on it, when I see a guy like that going to the draft,
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: I am just like, okay, it's going to take the right fist going to take the right scheme.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to take some where that sees him more as a movement Z receiver than an extra receiver.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm thinking that's probably going to be what he plays in this Saints offense because Kellon Moore and I think we talked about this in relation to like had they gone with McCye Lemon at the eighth overall pick.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: They were so good at moving guys around the formation last year.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: In this wide receiver room, took more than 65% of their snaps out wide last year.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: Crystal Lobby, the number one receiver, was 61% snaps out wide.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I think they're going to keep a lot of those principles because a lot of it comes from the fact that they were number one in pre-snap motion percentage on their dropbacks.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: And that's going to afford Jordan Tyson a lot of these free releases, getting them moving around, going against zone coverage as opposed to some of that perimeter accuracy or stuff.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: So my first thought was this is pretty good news for Jordan Tyson.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: And he's going to be a guy that when you're talking about like projecting his NFL career, I think it's he's a guy that's like a post draft riser in the rankings as opposed to what might
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: just him as a prospect man at him.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: We did a film study on him.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: He was like the first prospect man and him studied at all, 22, but we dove deep into him.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, there were a lot of things with Mike, and there was a lot of things that we just could just kind of on.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the injury stuff scared to shit out of both us, like this.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: flavors.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: But interestingly, like as you dig deeper, like maybe it's just because we drafted him and you start to try to kind of come up with excuses.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's like when you look at the context of it, like, okay, he had the ACL at Colorado.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like he just, like, walked wrong and got the ACL.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: He got like, harpoon from behind from a defender and towards ACL.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, his dad made the point to tell Luke Johnson who covers the Saints, to tell him that it was just the ACL.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't the ACL, PCL, MCL, that's been reported or whatever.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so he had that then the next year.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: He had the, um, the collarbone entry, which I watched the video of that.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: He literally got crushed by two defenders at the same like two huge defenders coming down on like an angle.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's a football entry.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like it was a football.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: What are you going to bang it?
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: What you're going to do.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then he had of course the
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: The hamstring thing, which he kind of made worse himself, even he admitted to us at the combine, like, look, I tried to play through it.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was kind of like a cramp.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Try playing through it, he did play through it, and he wanted to backer for you to make it worse.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: So when you kind of look at it and it's kind of like making excuses like yeah, maybe and I think that's what kind of the same thing.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: They were just kind of like this context to that.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like he's injury prone, even though he has been prone to injury.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just one of those things where you could you could come with a concept kind of like with Tyler's shop where the tons of injuries coming in.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: But they were all kind of separate in their own vacuum, their own injuries.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, outside of that, what were your thoughts on him just overall just as a
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's his ceiling in your opinion?
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like, as far as, like, okay, here's what he can be, start and off, but like, if he hits all the benchmarks and gets better at some of his weaknesses, what is his ceiling in your opinion?
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: Guys says, because I haven't had a chance to say this anywhere else.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: And just because you mentioned the fact of like, well, it's not interesting, but it's just like, gotta get something new.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: I just got to get off my chest because you said the thing about hell, you're like talking yourself into it, the injury part of it, and look, that's what we all do, and I do this.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: You tell yourself a story about something.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you guys have, hopefully you haven't kept up with almost like the weird internet culture war about Dijon's dribbling, the 49ers wide receiver.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: Gosh.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: Isn't it so funny to think about like if the 49ers haven't taken haven't didn't take just on struggling at 33 overall, like none of those 49ers beat writers who are just like going to or and like 49ers, you know, fan account says they would never tweet about this guy once in their entire life, but just because they're this team drafted the Emperor, like they got to go to war on the internet every day.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because it's a good fit, it like anyway, that's a completely different.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: I know, no, it is or it is a good fit and a lot of people just weren't paying attention to the fact that he was going to go on day two.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I mean, if I had heard it, everybody heard it, you know, you weren't locked in.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you weren't locked in another draft, you were just looking to like mock drafts and, and like the consensus, but you know people really like him.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: coaches really like them that was what I said on my shows like it's very obvious that he this is a coaches favorite wide receiver and that's why he's a late riser because coaches you guys know this come to the process last last and and and and that's why he's this like late riser because the coaches are just watching now and they're like oh yeah this guys awesome so yeah it's that felt very validated hearing those reports from the 49ers beat riders carrying water for the pick so that was nice
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: But anyways, my point, my point, I will get back to Jordan Tyson.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're exactly didn't have a point on that.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: I just had to get it off my chest.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't said it anywhere else.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: So you're welcome.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to win this game.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're just going to clip that for wasting everyone's time there.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: But no, when it comes to Jordan Tyson's ceiling wise, I actually think that, you know, sometimes comps are,
- 10:45[SPEAKER_02]: stupid and and like it doesn't really matter, but I actually think his player comparison for me really kind of paints the career that he can have.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a Mari Cooper.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think a Mari Cooper and him are very very similar in terms of size wise.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: They're in a similar bucket.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: They're very similar in ways that like if you lined up the 10 best routes of a Mari Cooper in any season, you'd be like, oh my god, this is the best route runner in the NFL.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: There was a lot of inconsistency in that within games within stretches of seasons.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: That was always borne out in his reception perception data and shoot.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like anybody who had a Mari Cooper in fantasy knew there was like up and down.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes that's not always the case like the player doesn't own the volatile production.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes it does and I thought that was the case with Cooper.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: But the best years of Cooper's career
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: You could argue as like the prime years of his career came in Dallas after at the very end of his Raiders career.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: He was and I know this because I've talked to people that were with Cooper on that staff.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: They viewed him and was like, oh, we took him in the fourth overall pick top five.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like he has to be our extra seever because this is back in 2015, 2016, what's like number one was your ex.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: So they put him in his role.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was very, very up and down right towards the end of his time and in Oakland Las Vegas.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like he, I believe actually never made it to Las Vegas.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: So at the end of his time in Oakland, they started putting him in Z.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: And then when that carried over in the Dallas, he had these awesome years as a guy that was off ball moving between the flanker slot position.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: And that kind of helps I think get some of the inconsistencies out of his game and like really let him rip it on routes in the intermediate area and I think Jordan Tyson can probably be that type of player too and like you look at a Mari Cooper's end of your stats at the end of his the end of his career because he's retired now.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, damn, yeah, I would take that break pretty much from a top 10 pick.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think you would take that every day of the week.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: I do just think there's going to be some ups and downs, some inconsistencies with the player like this, just because there are going to be moments where he gets pressed and can he get better at that Cooper definitely got better at that, honestly towards his time with Cleveland.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: He was really good as a pressman, beater, and finally was like,
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: kind of having his best seasons as an X receiver in the Browns.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we're nearly enough.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, him and Flacco, man, on those like big play action routes.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: And that's another thing too, where like, and I think this is true of a guy like Tyson too, where, and Jerry Judy, who's like the extreme version of this archetype, he's like the funhouse mirror as version of this at the very end, but.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Judy's another guy that he had a good year as the Z receiver in Cleveland because they kind of had a stop They didn't like enough already with the slot stuff where he's having these multiple breaking routes He's taken forever to get open.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's like congratulations.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_02]: That's great on TikTok your quarterback is sacked now So they had him just on these like one cut and go routes and I think that's something that Jordan Tyson can do as well So I think ceiling wise like yeah, he could be in a Mari Cooper type of player where he flirts with
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: number one wide receiver status or he's either like a really he's a good number one or he's like an awesome awesome awesome number two.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um and I think that fits with the current collection of the Saints receivers where you've got some you know useful players potentially down the depth chart to have a guy in Chris O'Lave they'd I think compliments Jordan Tyson really well Xi's an awesome press man beater in a very reliable route runner.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah I would say ceiling wise I'm going to marry Cooper type of players what he could be.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think that comp makes a lot of sense.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I remember you see, I remember you saying it on Twitter, maybe like a couple of weeks before the draft, and I was like, oh, like that's, that's good.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: You brought up Chris Olaave and I think the thing that just makes the Tyson pick so enticing, no pun intended is just the way that they'll be able to compil many each other and play all each other.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: When you're kind of visualizing it, how do you think in terms of like,
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: killing more of what he's wanting to do with Tyson with Olaave in terms of dictating to defences.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: That he wasn't able to do because Ryan was just looking up like all 22 of the Saints' last season and he was just like, he was doing it yesterday, I think.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: He was just like, Jesus Christ.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: There's like, it was like bracket Chris a lot of A and the you had like Mason tipped in just like tipped tipped it in and they didn't have been doing like the Lord the the motion goes or been motion thing.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, running out is like Oh, they'll love with a game route.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: So that was what Brandon cooks was doing at the beginning of the year.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: It sure was sure.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love it.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so that's that's Bryce Lents now for for the time being just you should speak.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: for real get your car to get your car to it, but actually think that that's what's really cool about now they can They can have two like real credible threats doing that stuff like I want to see actually what in like And this is a lot because Bryce Lance is a day through rookie.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: This might not be able to happen You know until Twenty twenty seven so you know we might and we might offend the valet bros when we say this, but like if if if if three we see I know will be careful if three receiver set
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: where you've got, you know, Bryce Lance is the isolated receiver on one side of the field.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: And he's that nominal on-ball X receiver.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then you've got either of Jordan Tyson or Chris Olave as the on-ball player.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: And then the other guy's cutting across on that full-speed motion, pre-sat motion, off the ball.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: And it just depends on when is the ball snap, is he in the slot or is he outside?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you can really, really just work those guys.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: In different matchups too, like is it a pre-stap, man-look if it's a pre-stap, man-look?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: We know Chris a lot there is one of the best man-covered receivers in the NFL.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: And it's first three seasons.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's been right around 75.8 to 76.3% success rate versus man coverage.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: It was first three seasons, not even just this past year, which was definitely the best year of his NFL career.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: So he's somebody because he was like a pro level route runner coming to the NFL also of very fast and explosive player.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like you can trust him to even though he's not, even though he's the smaller receiver, he's the better press man beater because he's gonna be able to reliably release
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: get open.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot there for him.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then for Tyson, if it's his own coverage, looking, you know, maybe he's your primary because as I mentioned, he's the best zone beater in this class.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I also think too, just working those guys on combination routes where one guy's breaking inside one guy's breaking outside.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: And this is the thing that we probably talked about this on the last episode that really struck me.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: about Tyler Schuck.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_02]: He was so good.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, stats wise was excellent on outbreaking routes last, on outrounds in particular last year, had like a 77% or 72% completion rate on outrounds, if I remember off the top of my head, around some flat routes.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: And that was Jordan Tyson's best routes too.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: So if you can get a lot of a breaking over the middle of field, and I think a Schuck in him had a lot of connection and chemistry on those in-breaking routes, like dig routes over the middle of the field.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: And then you think about Tyson working on combination
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: now we're talking about like a very, very interesting duo that is tough to cover when those guys are lined up on the same side of the field.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then you think about you know, shook was also really good in the intermediate middle of the field.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think I want to say you had like the fifth highest EPA in the league, you know, over his time that he played for
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Air yards between what nine and nineteen yards or whatever over the field was he was just really press it him and relay really cooking that area to just kind of over the middle on the sideline and stuff like that one area that shook really did these are improved that was downfield
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I've seen these improve.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't really like him, but it's just what we had.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm saying, like, we didn't really have the guys to get downfield.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now he played with Seed for like one.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he played like one game with Seed.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: And that was pretty much it.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you hit a couple shots to Chris O'Lavey a couple too for me, but they really couldn't really get the deep ball going.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm wondering, like, what's Tyson's deep ball game?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and obviously we're going to talk about price lanes.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: Also when it comes to the deep ball, what do you think they can bring to the, uh, their dimension, they can bring to the saints?
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so the stat I mentioned earlier, Tyler shook on outrouts and flat routes, 73% completion rate, 438 yards in his, you know, just very brief action last year.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that completion rate really shows you that he can drive and this is what I really like about it is he can drive the ball deep and outside the numbers.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: can throw from the far hash to the field accurately on time in rhythm.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: We just didn't have a lot of guys to work in that way last year.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think Tyson is a guy that you want to line up and run like go routes against pressman coverage.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think he struggles to release and stat guys.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we'll never know what his 40-time is, and that is always tough, right?
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you can say, like, I don't care.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: I seen it in the games, and for the most part, I don't really care.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: But then every now and again, I kind of wish I knew what Corey Davis's 40-time was.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we never got any pre-draft testing on him.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: And he was receiving from Western Michigan that went fifth overall.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I kind of wish I knew a modern Harrison Jr.'s 40-time was, even though I didn't think I would care about it.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: But like, you know, two years later,
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: I wish wish I knew, you know?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm so care what you carry during my small 40 time this next season.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: We'll never know.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: We're never going to find out.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll never find out.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: Never find out.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: You can't, you can't, I mean, they can't torture that information out of you.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: That is a state secret if it's unless it's like a four, three, three, I mean, then go out and run it and let us know, but yeah, if he doesn't run one,
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody will ever know, but anyways, yeah, so I think with a guy like Tyson, I will never know what his 40-time is, but I do think like straight line speed wise is not really his expertise.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: He's more of like a glider, which by the way is totally fine.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the top receivers in in area like the most productive receivers on 20 plus areas are throws last year Outside receivers guys who took 63 plus percent of their snaps outside their average 40 times like a 4.49 Like it doesn't really matter, but that's yeah
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's all about stacking and release the release and stacking and and deception within your route which I do think Tyson on a particular set of routes like there is definitely like we're slants and sometimes like stop routes and curls.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: He does a little bit too much dancing that again looks really good on social media, but it's like just get into it.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: But when you pull up his route chart, the out routes and the dig routes are to his two best routes.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: And that's because it's just
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: explode and JSN last year was so productive on those two routes because he is the best wide receiver and they have it like what average 40 times for him is probably like a four five two I think was that his project protee maybe if your generous four four eight
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: So again, in that same sort of range, but he's the best liar at the widest you were positioned in the NFL right now.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Just would tell you one thing with this head does another.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Tyson has the making of that.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: So when we're talking about explosive plays, we think about it as yeah, these go routes, which I don't think is like the strength necessarily.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's not bad, but I don't think it's like the strength of Tyson's game.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like you're looking at the chart here, it's like average.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: But where you can create a lot of explosive plays are on those deep out routes, dig routes, post routes,
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: over around.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: He can create a lot of those especially if he gets free releases.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yo, what up, Wolf?
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're looking at.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I'm checking out this website, this site is Cheats Brown.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: In the 21st century, how do you have a crappy website?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Couldn't be me?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: They need to hit a biograph visa with precious works.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: Precious works offers to not only build your website, that's tailored to you and your customer's needs, but also to continue to manage and maintain it, so you can focus on your business.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: Don't have much time.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: Pressure's works is just what you need.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: No out-of-the-box stuff like square space on wicks.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: Pressure's works will create a site for you.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: You won't have to worry about plugging updates, security, or things like that because pressures works will maintain all of that.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: And be available to you 24-7.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: These are on sets of set-up Saints Blockpointed Podcasts website for us a few years ago.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: and hit it out the park.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: He also keeps it up to date and helps us anytime we want to add something new like a farm or the prospect manager tool that we did for the NFL draft.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's like having your own personal developer just a text I'll call it away.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Pressure's work says work with everyone from small businesses to large firms.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: So no job is too big or too small.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in the need of a website or you currently have one, but you want to upgrade it, give B's on a high-led precious works.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: get with him at BCON at Precious Works, the IGO in at Precious.Works, or go to Precious.Works for his website.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Make sure to tell him things about 40 cents.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be it's going to be one interesting to see just how the all the pieces fit one of the things that I think right and I were just so happy about with the adding of Tyson and we'll get into Lance in a little bit is now like everyone kind of like and the why we see room kind of like falls into the role of where we should be like you have a lobby is obviously ingrained as like the one
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: Tyson comes in immediately.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's seen as like the two.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then like the lake and just be your Y receiver, your Y receiver three, which is that's how he kind of profiles.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: So he doesn't have to go out there and be like a Y receiver two for a season.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so it was just fascinating to see the Tyson pick happening around one.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: then they added a smaller from Georgia and round two.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: And Ryan and I were just like, okay, cool, like we got our juice were good.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: Then they would ask her death, which is completely blew us away, like, come in round three, we're like, what the hell?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then after that, they fall that the next day with Bryce Lance, like, it was the bismic man, just like, me, of just, just, you couldn't, it could just then make any systems.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Cause Lance is so,
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: fascinating from like an athletic profile.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I watched her piece, you did with James, like 12, 22 minute episode of what Lance is gonna be pigeoning in that fell.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: But for people who didn't dig into Bryce Lance is all 22 from North Dakota State, which we can't even like, we might have to ask you if you could help us again, because we were looking for, it doesn't exist.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: It does not exist, like it's not up there.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: But just what was just were impressions of just Lance of the prospect,
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: fits into this white receiver room that is now becoming pretty crowded.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I actually think the Oscar delpe pick is instructive here too and like worth bringing up in this because you mentioned it's like I think the delpe thing was pretty surprising because if you look at this team last year,
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: they were so almost over indexed on three receiver sets.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: They had three plus receivers on the field on 67.8% of their saps with the third most in the NFL.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: And they were one of the few teams that skewed the opposite way of the trend, whereas like the entire NFL is going towards more heavier personnel packages, you know, mostly two to three tight ends on the field.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: But even like a fullback stuff like that, they had a 34 percentage point increase in plays with three receivers plus on the field, which is, again, though it's the, I know I tweeted this out.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: I should have sent it to you guys before the show, but.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: It's like they they're so far on the other end of like teams that that skewed into those spread concepts and that's mostly because that is what Kellen more wants to do But also, you know, they had Kubiak the year before and he's more than heavy or personnel team But at the same time, I think you want to be able to go multiple and that's what's really cool about the delpe and the Lance pick Because last year they pretty much didn't have any they didn't have a tight end who allowed them to get into 12 personnel because you want all none
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that's another thing too, and I got radicalized in this when I was doing shows with Austin Eccler a Few years ago watching a lot of charges footballs watching all the charges football games and the thing that always stood out to me was like Yeah, Austin was this like incredible fantasy back was putting up monster numbers, but the run games sucked
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: like and it wasn't and he was a good he was a good back but they were like right again putting up monster numbers and then it's 30 second in rushing success rate which was just crazy to like kind of think think about that and watching that team I was like these tight ends
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: No disrespect.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, like this is bad stuff.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like they cannot block a soul.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like the Canary in the coal mine of their run game.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I think if you're the Saints, you know, you didn't have a consistently good ground game last year You you invested money in in Travis H and you drive that best money in the office of line like that's gonna help you be multiple In your run game, marry or run in your past game So I like that, but I also like them still saying it.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, when it comes time to spread the field and do all this cool whiteracy remotion stuff
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: We do need a body on the outside, you know, to maybe be sacrificial at times, you know, the sacrificial extracever open it up for your teammates, stretch the defense out, but when you want to throw a bucket to somebody on go routes like,
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of called him the arbitrage Chris Brasal in this draft in that both of these guys had you know some some red flags just on the kind of 30,000 foot view of their profile for Brasal and I'm talking about on field there are some there's some offield stuff with Brasal whatever but like
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: On the field, Brasals coming from this, you know, Lunitunes, Tennessee offense, you know, plays on one side of the field.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously for Bryce Lance, he's playing in order to go to state, you know, not a high level of competition there.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: And they, but they both like profiles so similarly from a reception perception standpoint, they're overall success rate metrics are like within striking distance of each other.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously one of them is playing in the SEC, one of them is playing in order to go to state.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_02]: But
- 29:09[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce Lieds definitely shows an ability to rip it down field.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you see it on the chart right now.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like his success rate on nine routes is very impressive post routes corner routes.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like he can he can absolutely get down field builds up strides.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's got to again, if you guys are able to watch him, I wonder if you see the same thing.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like a funny style of running routes where you
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: almost kind of wobbles into it and like leans into his routes at times.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he got better about that because he definitely tips off his routes when he's doing that stuff.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: You've got better about that throughout the course of his college career.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I really like bracelets.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: I would have said like late round three early round four type.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: So I like where they got him and he makes a lot of sense to kind of complete that room in a theoretical standpoint.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's, it's interesting, man.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then when you, when you, when you just start to look at everything, like the whole old season has a whole,
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: obviously killing more agree with us like he agree with me and Adam because we looked at the offense.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: The tight-end blocking was horrendous.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was awful in the run game.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was often in the past game.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: Joanna Johnson had almost a thousand yards as a past catcher, but he's a past catcher tight-end this is what he is.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's a tight as Nate Tyson has been calling it.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's a Tino, a tight-end and name only.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: He's not exactly.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, then they go, they sign, they sign, Travis E. Chan, they sign, North Fant, they sign David Edwards at guard, which was a usual at the left guard spot.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they go, they draft Tyson, they draft Lance, they address kick returner.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, killing more said, man, we need juice.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we need juice on this team, because honestly, the sense of just kind of a struggle to watch.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, unless you sickles like me and Adam,
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's a struggle to watch, you know, like they barely could score 20 points, you know, even in wins, they barely could get up to like 18 points.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: It was just, it was just, it was just, it was just, it was just, it was just, it was just hard.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: Offensive was so hard to make happen, like, this, this scoring points.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: I want to talk to you about red zone or where, where are you as far as, like, with red zone offense with, like, somebody like Tyson, Lance, they look at it, bring to the table, because I feel like that's somewhere in the Saints.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's the dimension that's still missing, you know.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, it's a good point, and I would just say, I enjoyed watching the Saints' offense on film because I'm like, because I'm a scheme sick of, you know, like, you are sick of, like, you're exactly, exactly, but anybody was like, honestly, became a running bit on my fantasy show where I was like, you know, like, the Saints' offense is kind of doing what they're kind of doing some cool stuff.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's actually fun to, like, my producer was like, you have to stop talking about this, nobody.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody is finding like this is a fantasy football show.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody is finding any value in the same softens.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody is listening to these segments.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: I like this was my audience.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: I like listening to like a grateful sale.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: You'd be on the like Ross Tucker podcast Um, and I think one of the episodes Ross Tucker was answering because they're all about the same.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, look Ross I did just I just haven't watched the things.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't watched the fucking speaker on my tail, man
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: You could tell it's like, I've watched, I'm watching more film than anybody, but I got a line somewhere.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's so funny.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, see, and this is also like, I get into this stuff when I'm like invested in a receiver and like, I love Chris a lot of it.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm like, I gotta check out what are they doing with a lot of it.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: And like, things are looking good.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: That was, but that was, you know what?
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: It ended up paying off because at the end of the year, Chris a lot of it was like, one of the fantasy league winners because this offense is creatively deploying their players.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he's going to let him make you lose for getting those contract negotiations good.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, let's get let's get Chris's money, but no, yeah, like I think that when you just look at this team.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think critical down in this in situations is where they do need to get better.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: So that's obviously third down in the red zone.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned this like in scoring areas.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I always think that we get into this thing was like, well, we need big receivers in the red zone.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: And that definitely helps.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: But again, you also need like guys who can win and tight can find spaces.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think being able to weaponize these two guys on the same side of the field a lot of the enticing, that will help.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: you know especially if we're talking about the inside outside in breaking out breaking combo routes you see this a lot like the best the best thing that can happen to a quarter back in uh the red zone is two guys go with the in-cut receiver and that you know outcut receivers is wide-ass open you know and you see that a lot of these well-designed offense I was watching uh
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: Um, the bears the other day for charting Luther burden and like they got to play like that for him, you know, and it's just like it's it's that that can that can happen and you have multiple credible past catchers who can operate on different route concepts.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: So that's part of it, too.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_02]: But also being able to get into these heavier personnel packages.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's when you really feel it, you know, like so being able to have a tight end like delpe on the field.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to help a lot there.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: So even beyond like the receivers and stuff.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: You do need to have your receivers be able to come in and like mix it up in the in the run blocking game.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that's where the valet bros maybe can step back in here and and remind us that he's an important player for the team.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like do you think if we're talking about like power slot work, he's probably the best candidate on the wrong.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I actually don't I mean, I I'm joking about the valet bros, but I mean, I really do appreciate a lot about valet.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's like power.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like we like we'll let you know.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: definitely.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was just like, you know, let's just, just calm it down a bit.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's just, it's the whole thing that we said before, like, let's not rely on like, what if this, what if that?
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: Because now you, now you look at this wide receiver and you're like, oh, man, like, how are we going to get snaps for everybody?
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I mean, that's what you want.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want that?
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: You want, like, oh, man.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: What if we get like, what if we get halfway through Bryce Lance's rookie year and he has like 10 targets because Vela has played so well.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: Or like, oh, he hasn't played so well.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: At least we have this fourth round rookie we could try out.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like, let's see you've Jalen Polka in the fishing, the fishing camps we carried over to the field.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see what happens.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: So that's what you want.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you want.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to like go into the season with hopes and wishes you want contingency plans.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: They do.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we might have to pour one out for Mason Tipton.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think his time with the team is probably ending very, very soon.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: But the Jalen Polk thing is still interesting because I Ryan alluded to this like that final spot on this team for right receivers going to be very interesting.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: Probably boils down to like special teams like that.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you like like Jalen Polk is like talented, you know,
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, has he worked out in the NFL?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: No, not yet.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: And that's some of that being situation and some of that being on him.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: But like you the second round, picking it's like, like there's something there.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: But now I just the fact that each receiver brings a little something different to the team and what their role is and they're kind of more defined and clarified.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's very important.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: Just came back to the last real quick.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about Ryan with this.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it was on the podcast or just in text about to just by just said,
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: kind of going back to Sean Peyton Saints, but still when they drafted Robert Meachum from Tennessee in 2007, he's surprised I'm sick.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: Some of what he started out to being is like he was extremely fast right receiver.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of started off like opening things up for the rest of the right receiver.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: Friend had a lot of like deep post routes and everything kind of opened up underneath that.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: I do wonder if that's potentially how they
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe start using Lance like initially and then kind of sprinkle in like actual like okay You're more than just like our are open up guy like you can actually do some things But that's kind of just like you know how I just initially like envisioned Lance's role Maybe initially because he is having a big jump in competition
- 37:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is the sacrificial X receiver theory right is like you get out there and and yeah you're going to open things up for your teammates or that big body guy and that's how we get to do because of the rules of the sport Two people have to be two eligible viewers have to be on ball at the beginning of us like snap so
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Jordan Tyson are lined up right next to each other and there's all this motion and who's the Z and who's the slot.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: At the snap of the ball, like he's one of these guys full speed motion, running that for the love of the game, but actually that's an eligible target because it's Jordan Tyson or Chris O'Lavey now in order to do all that.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: you do need a guy to line up on the boundary on ball and you know that that's a part of that and I think about a guy like Alec Pierce, I was like obsessed with talking about Pierce during this draft cycle because I think the thing that was so critically misunderstood about Pierce's game in his but both his prospect profile and his early career charting for reception perception the guy even though he was an incomplete player
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he only really ran like three routes, but he ran those three routes really well and he was just good enough against man press coverage to never lose his job.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: Even they drafted like 80 Mitchell probably to replace him and he kept that at bay, you know, Mitchell obviously made his own mistakes, of course, too.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: But quite literally made mistakes on the field.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: But Pierce is able to keep that a bay because he was a credible man, press beater to just stay on the field for four years.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then by his fourth year, he had added more to his plate.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: He was doing more than just running post-go and slant and like quick little outs and stuff like that.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Then he was running these more deeper in breaking intermediate routes.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: More of that full field stuff, more curls and stop routes and things of that nature.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think for these guys like Lance,
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, to a degree on guys that went on day two, you know, your Malachi fields or your Chris Bell, even Chris Brassel, like you got to be good enough early on to just hang on to the field and stay on the field, so that you're able to develop on the job because the best way to improve is to play the best way to just get those live reps and everything and.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think Lance against man coverage 67.4% it's not like an incredible mark, but it's solid enough and he's so good on those deep routes that yeah, but he can be the sacrificial receiver early on and hopefully go from there and be more of a full field threat by your three or four.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: Such an kind of off topic from the Saints.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: I was listening to one of the episodes you put out recently.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: You talked about the Panthers of a Chris Brasal and you were talking about how the Panthers
- 40:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I kind of built to go the other way, the way the league is going as far as spreading them out and kind of like attacking.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: And Adam brought up the same thing.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: We were talking to Cody Alexander a couple of days ago on the podcast on like, how will all fences kind of react to this trend?
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: How would defense this react, counter react to the trends?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it seems like the Panthers are built
- 40:28[SPEAKER_01]: Interestingly, you know, with these big wide receivers that you got bracelets, you just small, a guy that kind of excels in the spread, you know, with things all spread out, it may be wonder like, what are they cooking up?
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: Or is it just kind of like, this just happens to be how their team is built, you know, with no playing to it.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think there might, I mean, I'm guessing that there's a plan here because if you look at Bryce Young, like, back in 2024, when they were in Empty, so nobody else in backfield just full-spread it out, he was 11.2 yards per completion in 2024 out of Empty, 7.3 adjusted yards per attempt, and on all other formations, it's just not nearly as good.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like it was a very efficient play.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce Young being an empty.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's the most efficient stuff in his career that they did it did that in 2024 and he had 96 attempts out of empty in 2024.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: Remember he was benched during that season.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: He was benched during that year.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: Last season as a full year starter except for one game 88.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: past the temps out of empty.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: And the efficiency definitely went down.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot of reasons for the efficiency stuff, but just again, that's a true lack of volume of it.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_02]: They went away from it, even though it was so efficient in 2024, I think they're looking back to that and thinking like, can we get back to that?
- 41:46[SPEAKER_02]: Can we get back to more spread out?
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think that's probably the way Bryce Young plays, the best, from the gun, when it's spread out, and he can be kind of a point guard, like you don't necessarily have two.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: And he can see it, get some of the bodies out of the way.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, quite literally, like, I mean, he helps to have those big ass receivers down the field when you're a smaller guy, and they have a huge receiver room.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Tettoro McMillan, Jalen Coker, Coker's listed like six three over 215 pounds.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_02]: I've heard he's closer, more to like, six one, two, oh, that makes sense.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think he's quite that big.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: But he's like,
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: He's still a big guy.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's more built like Chris Godwin than his list of this is the player.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think he compares best to Xavier Leget is a massive guy.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: Chris Brassel's six four 200 pounds and then Little Jimmy Horn Jr completes the room.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: But you know what Jimmy Horan, Jr. was running a lot of those for the love of the game route slash was he's creating a lot of leverage for Teterone McMillan.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I do wonder if they end up becoming one of these offenses where they don't have like a true I think I think team hack and time he's not there yet, but I think in time he could be a one but they might have more of like a weeout.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: We spread and shred to all these eligible receivers they go away from this like heavy personnel package trend.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_02]: And it'll be interesting to see if that
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you have to take your handers is another guy that's like a light tight end.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: Tommy tremble is a smaller tight.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like you don't have really, Mitchell Evans is definitely their best like inline presence.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, they don't really have the tight end room to be one of these crazy 12 13 personnel package teams.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: So they might be a team that that was kind of my theory was that they're going to skew a little bit away from the trend and we'll see if that works out for them.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: Last one I had, this is kind of like off the wall and kind of just me just thinking hypothetical, but last year, had Tedaroid been there at nine, the things would have turned that pic in and he would have been the pic even over Kelvin Banks.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just wondering, just trying to see if there's a trend of how did McMillan's profile kind of look compared
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: They're both like super smooth players if I'm thinking about how they're similar But I do think they're really really different.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: Um, like a Teteromic mill and like who's gonna be better?
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you know, it's up for yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I know you're not asking that but it's like
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Just in terms of their optimal deployment, like I think T-Mac is a guy that you can go, this is quite literally what they did.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: Assume to go out and be like big boy X receiver, number one, right away.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: To mix results to be fair, I know he was just really, really, really good, super productive on a pair of bases and he won freaking offence of rookie the year as he should have.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, it's still like sometimes there were games where he would get routed out of it and whatever, but that's going to happen when you're rookie and you're playing
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: The good thing for I don't think Tyson could do that.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you will have to do that in this often.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that would have been like a really different outcome and a really different receiver room.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: Had they added teamack as opposed to Jordan Tyson because yeah, if you look at it, if you look at McMillan.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: last year, you know, he was right there like 70% 70.4% success rate versus me and 81% success rate versus own 73.1% against press.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_02]: And like that's the big difference between him and Tyson is that I think with you.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_02]: And showed you better like stuff against press coverage in tight coverage, but Tyson was a, is a significantly, I think more more comfortable zone beat or probably than T mac is at this point.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: Bearing fascinating.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: Bearing fascinating.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: I guess my last one is, I mean, how far do you think this Saints office can go?
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: If everything works out if, you know, Tyson stays healthy, somebody young guys come along, shut, is actually a good quarterback and he, you know, he continues to show growth.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, where do you think the offense can go?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not worried about wins and all that stuff, but just offensively can kill and kind of take it to another level, you know.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think they could push for a top 15 offense.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: I think right around there would be something good to shoot for, and maybe it feels again a little bit better by the end of the year.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, obviously this means that Chuck has taken another step.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he was really promising last year.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: We assumed he's taking another step this year.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: Dangerous assumption, but in this world, that's what we're assuming.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: We're assuming the run game is better because they're more multiple from personnel standpoint.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: The offensive line is better.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like everything looks better on paper.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously the top two receivers have to say healthy and it all has to come together, but I think they could push for a top fit.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think they could push for a top 15 offense this year.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_02]: If not one of those teams, it's like worse than the first half, better in the second half, which again, very similar to what they were last year.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: Hashtag on paper, we're back to there.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's a, like, that's Dawn paper.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: Back to on paper.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_00]: But at least the on paper is promising and exciting.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: And like I told Ryan, I said, it would be the most hilarious thing in saying things.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: Ever is like the draft that they added so much juice, like ends up being like one of the worst draft classes.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: But like in the moment, we were just, it's static about it, like, like wouldn't have been like this.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: We do.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: But all that said, at least at the very least,
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: at least offensively it looks like the office would be fun like I don't I don't know like what it what it's gonna mean in terms of wins and losses, but it hopefully it ends up being fun.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: And another thing that didn't feel like we did like I haven't even talked about until like recently is that with adding Oscar dub and adding no effect like one of the things that Kellen did
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: bring up and use later in the season with Chuck is that Chuck's running ability and like those quarterback powers and those like those kind of quarterback counters and things like that.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_00]: And it does when you have tight ins that can block and block well or willing to block at the very least really can help spring that up because that's another that's the thing that Kevin was utilizing towards the end of the season.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_00]: But all that to say.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: Matt.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: What a fantastic episode.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for coming on and joining us and we actually have like two white receivers to look for it to for like the the rookie at the end when you do your right up.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: What is right.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_02]: What is finally the same.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll get since 2022 or yeah right 2022 there'll be two players in the rookie report what.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: will see about price and speed plays.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, there will definitely be one provided he plays at least four games for Tyson will be charted for the reception.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: Mid season rookie reports.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: So thank God boys, like I said, we did it.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_02]: We made it.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: We
