- 2:21Carmen Hecox: Hello and welcome Karen Church to Create The Best Me.
- 2:25Carmen Hecox: I am so glad to have you on the show.
- 2:27Karen Church: Thank you, Carmen.
- 2:28Karen Church: I am so pleased to be here today.
- 2:31Karen Church: Thanks for having me.
- 2:32Carmen Hecox: So, for some of the people that do not know who you are, can you start off by telling us a little bit about yourself?
- 2:39Karen Church: Sure.
- 2:39Karen Church: So I'm a holistic wellness coach, and I work with women 40 and over to design and create their best life.
- 2:47Karen Church: Looking at their health, their overall physical health, emotional wellbeing, and their spirit.
- 2:55Karen Church: What's gonna light them up to really create that well-rounded person?
- 3:00Carmen Hecox: Perfect.
- 3:01Carmen Hecox: And the reason why I asked you to come on the show is because you have a program that helps women in midlife that may struggle with weight loss issues.
- 3:12Karen Church: Yes, I do.
- 3:13Karen Church: Uh, you know, a lot of women, as we age, sometimes the things that we have been doing stop working, and a lot of what's out there is that it's your age.
- 3:24Karen Church: Well, I'm here to tell you, ladies, that is not true fact.
- 3:29Karen Church: I'm in my fifties, and I'm in the best shape of my life, much better than I was in my thirties and even in especially my early forties, mid-forties.
- 3:40Karen Church: And going through my journey, I just wanna help more women.
- 3:44Karen Church: It doesn't have to be the case.
- 3:47Karen Church: And you can really make significant changes and have that resiliency, that longevity, and that energy and be fit.
- 3:58Carmen Hecox: Perfect.
- 3:58Carmen Hecox: So, before we get into talking about your program, can you give us a little bit of background about what inspired you to design this program.
- 4:07Carmen Hecox: Tell us about your journey.
- 4:10Karen Church: Oh yes.
- 4:11Karen Church: My journey began about 30 years ago.
- 4:15Karen Church: And I just began to have one health issue after another.
- 4:19Karen Church: Started with just being easily getting sick to thyroid disease, to then becoming almost pre-diabetic.
- 4:28Karen Church: And I thought, wow, what is going on here?
- 4:32Karen Church: I'm in my thirties, and I'm completely falling apart.
- 4:37Karen Church: What's gonna happen when I hit 40, 50, 60?
- 4:41Karen Church: And that just kind of scared me.
- 4:43Karen Church: So I started doing a lot of research, working with a lot of different doctors, from specialists and endocrinology to holistic doctors, naturopathic doctors, nutritionists.
- 4:56Karen Church: I all over the place.
- 4:58Karen Church: And what I finally learned was it was a couple of things that were going on, and that was stressing my body.
- 5:06Karen Church: One was a food intolerance.
- 5:10Karen Church: Another was just chronic stress in my life that was just ongoing all the time.
- 5:18Karen Church: I'm a high achiever, so I tend to set the bar high for myself.
- 5:23Karen Church: And another was toxicity.
- 5:27Karen Church: And that's really big, especially as we age because our livers are so important at detoxing everything.
- 5:35Karen Church: And when we're fluctuating, and we're changing our hormones, that all has to be metabolized by the liver.
- 5:44Karen Church: So if we create this toxicity buildup in the body from environmental to food that we're eating to chronic stress, that will all impact being able to stay fit, healthy, and energized.
- 6:01Carmen Hecox: Just to give people a little bit of background, because they probably say, oh yeah, well, moms are always complaining that you're stressed.
- 6:07Carmen Hecox: At the time back then and still currently, you're an aero engineer.
- 6:11Carmen Hecox: Is that correct?
- 6:11Carmen Hecox: Aerospace?
- 6:13Karen Church: I'm an aerospace engineering.
- 6:15Karen Church: Yes.
- 6:15Carmen Hecox: That's a very stressful job.
- 6:17Karen Church: Yes, yes.
- 6:19Karen Church: I was, traveling, I had two kids at home traveling, working a full-time job trying to juggle it all.
- 6:27Karen Church: You know, I was still active, but it was a little too much.
- 6:31Karen Church: And there came to be one point where things just kind of cracked.
- 6:37Karen Church: I was working in senior management, and my vice president was completely, uh, very difficult to work with.
- 6:46Karen Church: And to say it bluntly, he was a bully.
- 6:51Karen Church: And so you can imagine going into work feeling like I might be attacked that day.
- 6:57Karen Church: That was extremely stressful.
- 6:59Karen Church: My son was in kindergarten at the time, and he has a severe peanut allergy.
- 7:04Karen Church: Well, he was given peanuts five times that year.
- 7:08Karen Church: So you can imagine I'm stressed out, going to work.
- 7:11Karen Church: I don't know when I'm going to receive a phone call from the school that there's been another episode.
- 7:16Karen Church: And this peanut allergy is serious.
- 7:18Karen Church: It's life and death.
- 7:19Karen Church: So I was under extreme stress all day long, every day.
- 7:26Karen Church: I lived for the weekends, just so that I could try to catch up on sleep and do all of the kid activities that I needed to do.
- 7:35Karen Church: And that was it.
- 7:36Karen Church: And it was just, it was crazy.
- 7:38Karen Church: It was never-ending.
- 7:40Karen Church: So that was not a sustainable lifestyle.
- 7:42Karen Church: That was not a lifestyle that was going to be healthy.
- 7:46Karen Church: And it wasn't until my doctor said to me one day you should think about changing your career.
- 7:53Karen Church: You would do something really well in the health and wellness industry.
- 7:57Karen Church: And I thought, boy, well, I don't wanna go back to school and become a doctor.
- 8:02Karen Church: And she's like, but you have so much knowledge, you could do many different things.
- 8:08Karen Church: My endocrinologist had told me years before that that I could pass the endocrinology boards.
- 8:14Karen Church: Cuz I did, I bought a book, and I read all about the body and the system.
- 8:19Karen Church: And I would go in and ask him questions like, why is my blood sugar rising?
- 8:23Karen Church: I see this?
- 8:24Karen Church: I see that.
- 8:25Karen Church: I can read my labs and understand them.
- 8:28Karen Church: Because I feel that knowledge is power.
- 8:31Karen Church: When we understand, we can be more educated, we can ask those questions, we can be partners with our doctors, and that's one of the things that I educate my clients with, is to become informed and educated so that they can then make the best decisions for themselves with the doctor they're working with.
- 8:50Carmen Hecox: Yeah.
- 8:50Carmen Hecox: Well, it's kind of like being your own advocate.
- 8:52Carmen Hecox: It's, taking responsibility and not relying on the expert to guide you and what you need to do.
- 9:00Carmen Hecox: I think it's part of your responsibility as a human to understand, get answers to the questions that you don't quite understand.
- 9:10Karen Church: Yes.
- 9:10Karen Church: Yes.
- 9:11Karen Church: And it does take a lot of time and effort, and there's a lot of misinformation out there.
- 9:16Karen Church: And so that's why I thought, well, I've spent 30 years learning and trying things.
- 9:23Karen Church: This doesn't work.
- 9:24Karen Church: This is what works.
- 9:26Karen Church: Why don't I decide to coach?
- 9:29Karen Church: Why don't I decide to teach?
- 9:31Karen Church: You know, I have this wealth of information.
- 9:34Karen Church: I can break it down easily for folks.
- 9:37Karen Church: And it all came to me one day when I realized that I love to teach.
- 9:42Karen Church: I used to also coach a girls' lacrosse team.
- 9:45Karen Church: I coached them to the championship game in Northern California.
- 9:50Karen Church: And I had a blast.
- 9:52Karen Church: I did this for four years as the head coach, and it was one of the most rewarding times of my life.
- 10:00Karen Church: So when I sat down after the, doctor had said that to me, I really thought about it.
- 10:05Karen Church: I said, what do I love to do?
- 10:07Karen Church: What's my passion?
- 10:08Karen Church: My passion is health and wellness.
- 10:11Karen Church: How can I teach others what I've learned so that they don't have to spend 30 years researching, trying, going to this doctor, that doctor, you know, I spent well over a hundred thousand dollars on my journey, and it's ridiculous.
- 10:28Karen Church: You don't; why should anyone have to do all of that?
- 10:31Karen Church: Just to figure out how to be healthy.
- 10:33Carmen Hecox: And let's back up a little bit.
- 10:34Carmen Hecox: I remember when we had previously spoke, you had explained to me that you questioned your labs but that you were also a very active woman, and you just explained that cuz you said that you coached the lacrosse team, but the weight wasn't coming off.
- 10:49Karen Church: Mm-hmm.
- 10:50Karen Church: Yes.
- 10:51Karen Church: I was even training for sprint and triathlons with my husband.
- 10:55Karen Church: And I look back at those pictures, and I'm like, wow, here I am swimming, biking, running, and I did the races right, but I was not as fit as what I am today, and I don't run anymore.
- 11:12Karen Church: Uh, you know, now that I'm in my fifties, I'm, I'm looking to, for longevity for my joints.
- 11:18Karen Church: So I don't wanna do that impact on them.
- 11:22Karen Church: And I don't need to.
- 11:24Karen Church: I don't need to do extreme exercise to maintain a healthy weight.
- 11:30Karen Church: Your body really has a set point.
- 11:34Karen Church: So if you have balance in the body from, the food that you're eating is nutritious for you.
- 11:40Karen Church: And that's different for everyone.
- 11:43Karen Church: So that's another point I wanted to make too, to your viewers, Carmen, is that.
- 11:48Karen Church: Avoid following anyone else's diet.
- 11:50Karen Church: People will ask me, well, what do you eat?
- 11:52Karen Church: And I said, that may or may not work for you.
- 11:55Karen Church: It's not about what I eat.
- 11:56Karen Church: It's about figuring out what your body, what fuels your body the best.
- 12:02Karen Church: And everyone I've worked with we have found a food or two that they don't digest properly.
- 12:11Karen Church: And when that happens, it creates toxemia in the body because that microbiome in the gut starts to change and create mycotoxins.
- 12:24Karen Church: A dysbiosis happens those toxins leak out into the bloodstream, and that creates inflammation in the body.
- 12:33Karen Church: How that shows up for someone, it really all depends on what their predisposition is.
- 12:41Karen Church: So I have clients that come in with high blood pressure or, like I was, with blood sugar problems.
- 12:49Karen Church: I have clients that come in with headaches or sinus pain.
- 12:55Karen Church: It all depends on what that person's predisposition is.
- 12:59Karen Church: We're all different, but as soon as we figure that out and remove that from what they've been eating and then heal the body, everything starts to come back online.
- 13:11Carmen Hecox: I actually listened to your masterclass, and you had talked about, you had a couple of clients that had testimonials, but I think the one that really resonated with me was there was a woman who you had been coaching, and she found herself, this catastrophe happened in Florida, which.
- 13:30Carmen Hecox: Any Floridian would've been extremely stressed.
- 13:34Carmen Hecox: And what is the natural thing that we do when we get stressed is we eat, unfortunately; that's kind of a way of, like a child sucks their thumb, it's a way that we kind of feel safe.
- 13:45Carmen Hecox: We start eating unhealthy things.
- 13:47Carmen Hecox: But this woman was able to continue to stress in a different way, per se, and the weight was still falling off even though she was dealing with this life-changing event that took place in Florida.
- 14:04Karen Church: Yes, my client, Regina, it was pretty devastating.
- 14:08Karen Church: Her neighborhood got completely demolished.
- 14:12Karen Church: I mean, there's so many homes destroyed.
- 14:15Karen Church: They had to completely evacuate to the other coast of Florida for a week.
- 14:21Karen Church: So you can imagine in a hotel with your pets, she has pets, her dog, her cat, her daughter that was in college.
- 14:31Karen Church: She picked her up, and unfortunately, her dad would not evacuate.
- 14:38Karen Church: And that was besides not knowing how your home is now, she has her father who stayed there, and the last conversation she was had with him is that there was water coming in through the ceiling.
- 14:56Karen Church: So she didn't know when she went back whether she was gonna find him alive or dead.
- 15:02Karen Church: It was cat five hurricane.
- 15:04Karen Church: Those that don't understand cat five, I mean, that's a very serious, serious storm.
- 15:10Karen Church: So extremely stressful time.
- 15:13Karen Church: And she said to me, if it wasn't for your program, Karen, and having set up her lifestyle that supports her, sustains her, and knowing what food to eat, knowing how to start her day so that she can release that stress, how to end the day.
- 15:35Karen Church: That was just golden.
- 15:37Karen Church: And, and like you said, she did keep losing weight, and a lot of people do tend to eat when they're stressed, and there's a very scientific reason why, and it all is how we developed as humans.
- 15:51Karen Church: When we become stressed, it creates the flight and fight response in the body.
- 15:57Karen Church: Just like what the caveman had to do when they had to run away from whatever threat was coming their way.
- 16:05Karen Church: Because of that, our brain then thinks that we've actually exerted energy when we're stressed.
- 16:13Karen Church: So then it sends the signal that you need to refuel.
- 16:17Karen Church: So what's that signal?
- 16:19Karen Church: I'm hungry.
- 16:20Karen Church: So that's why we're hungry when we're stressed.
- 16:24Karen Church: Cuz our brain and our body, that's how we evolved, is telling us it, it is trying to help us.
- 16:30Karen Church: Your body is always trying to help you.
- 16:33Karen Church: And that's what it's trying to do.
- 16:34Karen Church: It's saying, oh wow, you just went through this catastrophe event.
- 16:39Karen Church: You need to eat, you need that energy, you need that sustenance.
- 16:44Karen Church: But we actually didn't.
- 16:46Carmen Hecox: Can you talk about I know that I had read or listened to is that there are different phases in your Reboot and Rejuvenate program?
- 16:57Carmen Hecox: So can you talk about the phases?
- 17:00Carmen Hecox: Can you talk about each different phase?
- 17:01Carmen Hecox: What a person would expect out of each phase.
- 17:05Carmen Hecox: And how long the program lasts.
- 17:08Karen Church: Sure.
- 17:09Karen Church: So the program in its total is 18 weeks, and phase one is really doing that root cause investigation.
- 17:18Karen Church: I really want to drill down with each person cause we're all unique; we're all different.
- 17:24Karen Church: Everything's tailored in the work that I do.
- 17:27Karen Church: And understand what is causing and what I term root cause that comes from my engineering background.
- 17:37Karen Church: And so I go through into a root cause investigation.
- 17:40Karen Church: What are all of the things that we need to go address?
- 17:44Karen Church: Physically in the body.
- 17:46Karen Church: So we look at labs, we look at digestion, we look at liver function, a whole gamut of things.
- 17:55Karen Church: Make sure everything physically is functioning.
- 17:58Karen Church: If we find something that's not, what do we need to do to address those?
- 18:04Karen Church: We look at the mind.
- 18:07Karen Church: Is there anything there that's creating us to self-sabotage?
- 18:12Karen Church: That's pulling us back to our old habits.
- 18:14Karen Church: How can we do that and so that we can then start to create a systematic approach to our day and change how we're doing things.
- 18:29Karen Church: Little by little, we layer on those habits.
- 18:32Karen Church: So that's phase two is creating that sustainable lifestyle.
- 18:38Karen Church: And that's where Regina was, luckily, when the hurricane hit.
- 18:44Karen Church: So we had already identified things.
- 18:46Karen Church: We had created what she needed to do so she could still keep going.
- 18:52Karen Church: So then, in phase three, we go through what I love because it's really cleaning up the entire system, and we've identified all the causes.
- 19:02Karen Church: We've addressed each one there.
- 19:05Karen Church: We've gone through and set up the, created that lifestyle that's going to support them.
- 19:10Karen Church: So in phase three, it's all about detoxing and cleansing.
- 19:15Karen Church: You know, cuz now we're going to reignite that metabolism, and when we clean, just like we spring clean our houses.
- 19:25Karen Church: We need to spring clean that body, get everything out cuz you can't avoid everything in your life.
- 19:30Karen Church: I mean, welcome to Planet Earth.
- 19:35Karen Church: And there's also been a buildup over the years.
- 19:38Karen Church: So I teach how to do a mind and body cleanse.
- 19:42Karen Church: So there's the mental emotion part of the cleanse, and then there's the physical cleanse that they go through, that they learn, and then they can do.
- 19:51Karen Church: And then, once you have all of this information, it's yours.
- 19:55Karen Church: You don't ever lose the information.
- 19:58Karen Church: You have that content.
- 19:59Karen Church: And if I ever update anything, you always have, um, the latest, uh, courses and things in that container.
- 20:08Karen Church: And you can always and redo that.
- 20:12Karen Church: I do recommend occasionally having to do that, because just like we have to spring clean our house.
- 20:18Karen Church: You gotta clean everything back up.
- 20:21Carmen Hecox: So tell me, because I don't really know this stuff, but as we age, you know, you and I are around the same age.
- 20:29Carmen Hecox: As we get older, our hormones start to fluctuate.
- 20:32Carmen Hecox: They start to change.
- 20:33Carmen Hecox: Does that change the way the foods that we can eat as well?
- 20:39Carmen Hecox: So like, something I could have eaten this year, maybe three years down the road, I've suddenly become allergic to it, or my body can't handle it anymore.
- 20:49Karen Church: So what I've found, and this came back to actually my son and it has nothing to do with age.
- 20:57Karen Church: It has to do with the immune system becoming oversensitive when it comes to food sensitivities and allergies.
- 21:08Karen Church: And what happened with my son was he was becoming sensitive to everything.
- 21:14Karen Church: We were running all of the blood work with the allergist and the doctor.
- 21:19Karen Church: And you know, he is like, okay, he truly has these allergies to peanuts, and so stay away from all nuts.
- 21:26Karen Church: I noticed that when he had dairy, he would break out on his skin.
- 21:30Karen Church: So I'm like, okay, well, no dairy; I noticed, you know, different things.
- 21:36Karen Church: And then they said, a naturopathic doctor said, well, let's run a sensitivity test.
- 21:40Karen Church: Okay.
- 21:42Karen Church: There were 50 foods that came up on that test.
- 21:46Karen Church: And as a mom, I thought, what is this child going to eat?
- 21:51Karen Church: He can't eat anything.
- 21:53Karen Church: There was like, can you tell me?
- 21:55Karen Church: And so then they were like, well, just avoid the foods that have a number three, cuz they would say, is it a number three, a number two, or number one, because they knew it was impossible to eat.
- 22:09Karen Church: And my husband said, what do we, you know, let's put'em on the dirt and water diet.
- 22:15Karen Church: Cause my poor son at five heard this and started crying.
- 22:19Karen Church: And I said this is not a way to live.
- 22:22Karen Church: Well, it turned out my son was reacting to a lot of foods.
- 22:25Karen Church: His immune system was heightened because he had a food intolerance to potatoes.
- 22:33Karen Church: And when we took potatoes out of his diet, healed his gut, he was able to eat all these other foods that he had never eaten before, and he doesn't react to them.
- 22:46Karen Church: So what I've noticed, and I don't, I haven't seen this in the scientific literature out there, but what I've seen from experiences with my son, myself, and the education I've received from, naturopathic doctors, who this is a lot of them, this is where they focus, is that when we heal the gut, we don't have that toxicity leaking out.
- 23:15Karen Church: And so if things are leaking out from the gut, that's going to potentially create a heightened immune response.
- 23:27Karen Church: So other foods are coming through, those are going through and leaking out.
- 23:33Karen Church: So my thoughts are, the reason why you become more sensitive as you age is you build up more toxicity in that microbiome that creates that chain of reaction.
- 23:47Karen Church: And over time, depending on what your predisposition is, you become more sensitive.
- 23:53Karen Church: Like I grew up, I was highly allergic to pollen.
- 23:57Karen Church: Every tree out there, I was allergy tested.
- 24:00Karen Church: I'm allergic to grass, cats, dogs, horses, anything with fur.
- 24:06Karen Church: And I could not be in a room with a cat for more than 15 minutes.
- 24:10Karen Church: My throat would completely change.
- 24:13Karen Church: Now I can go to my sister's.
- 24:15Karen Church: She has cat, dog, all these animals.
- 24:21Karen Church: And my immune system does not react.
- 24:25Karen Church: It's just, you know, I would; I don't take allergy medicine anymore.
- 24:30Karen Church: It's just amazing that when you feed the body the right foods, you become right back into balance.
- 24:39Karen Church: You know, food is thy medicine.
- 24:41Carmen Hecox: As I was telling you, my son brought a cat over to my house, and I'm having problems right now with my throat.
- 24:47Carmen Hecox: When my kids were young, I had cats in my house all the time, and now I can't be around cats.
- 24:54Carmen Hecox: So that's interesting that it could be just the toxicity that I have in my body that is sending out those signals, as you described.
- 25:03Carmen Hecox: Because something needs to get balanced.
- 25:06Carmen Hecox: And I understand that you also work with doctors.
- 25:10Carmen Hecox: Is that correct?
- 25:11Karen Church: Yes.
- 25:13Karen Church: So I am partnered with a clinic, and that's for my clients that need to do that food intolerance test.
- 25:21Karen Church: I can get that order for them.
- 25:22Karen Church: And luckily, they get a discount on it.
- 25:25Karen Church: Cuz there are, they're a client of mine.
- 25:27Karen Church: And so, the clinic will run that, provide all the, the results, and then I go through the findings, the report and provide that all to my clients.
- 25:37Karen Church: And I meet with the doctor once a month.
- 25:41Karen Church: So that's where I get my updates, get the latest information.
- 25:45Karen Church: What they're finding cuz they're always out there testing food, looking at different things.
- 25:50Karen Church: And so that's how I get my information that I can then teach my clients.
- 25:55Karen Church: So, after the program, I offer a continuation service to be able to get the latest information.
- 26:03Karen Church: Cuz as anything, we're always learning new things.
- 26:06Karen Church: There's always new information to put out there.
- 26:10Karen Church: And then I have other doctors, like my own medical doctor, when she learned that I was coaching, she's like, oh my gosh, so many people need your help because they don't have the time.
- 26:21Karen Church: You know, they're so busy in their practices that they can tell people, you need to make these, some lifestyle changes to avoid going on, you know, blood pressure medication or blood sugar medication.
- 26:35Karen Church: And it's hard, it's hard to figure out how to do that, how to make those changes, what you need to do.
- 26:42Karen Church: And so, she's like, sometimes I get asked, is there a health coach I can work with?
- 26:48Karen Church: And so, she's like, your services are needed.
- 26:51Karen Church: Because she runs my labs every year, and she's like, this year, she's like, I'm so jealous.
- 26:56Karen Church: Your labs are, are, I mean, they're green across the board.
- 27:00Karen Church: She's like, oh my gosh.
- 27:02Karen Church: And she sees me once a year when I, you know, like everyone, I, I wanna know what my numbers are.
- 27:07Karen Church: I wanna make sure everythings still good.
- 27:10Karen Church: Even though I feel well, I, it's, you should always check.
- 27:14Karen Church: You should always, you know, all of my clients; the first thing I ask them for is, have they done their wellness labs?
- 27:19Karen Church: And if not, I, I tell them they need to go do that cuz we need, we need that reference, that starting point.
- 27:26Carmen Hecox: I know that if you're not considered obese, then nope, your insurance won't take care of you.
- 27:33Carmen Hecox: You're on your own.
- 27:34Carmen Hecox: Cuz, I remember I went to my doctor, and I said, I think I need to lose weight.
- 27:37Carmen Hecox: And he says, well, you'll have to go see a nutritionist, but it's just like, go see a nutritionist.
- 27:43Carmen Hecox: I don't know anything about finding a nutritionist.
- 27:45Carmen Hecox: I don't know who's reputable, and unless you're obese, your insurance isn't gonna cover it.
- 27:53Carmen Hecox: And so, you're kind of stuck.
- 27:55Carmen Hecox: And so the nutritionist, I don't think they know how to read the labs or understand what it is.
- 28:01Carmen Hecox: They just kind of say, here's your age.
- 28:04Carmen Hecox: Here's your body, the way you carry your weight in your body.
- 28:07Carmen Hecox: Here's what you should eat.
- 28:09Carmen Hecox: And what if I'm still hungry?
- 28:10Carmen Hecox: What do I do?
- 28:11Carmen Hecox: Drink tons of water until, until I can't swallow any more water.
- 28:18Karen Church: Right and that's the other thing.
- 28:20Karen Church: There's this misconception that you need to have deprivation and restriction in order to lose weight and really cut down on the calories.
- 28:31Karen Church: Well, you can do that, but as soon as you start eating like a normal person.
- 28:37Karen Church: I'll say the normal amount; it's all gonna come back.
- 28:41Karen Church: And then some is usually what happens.
- 28:43Karen Church: It's, and it's not healthy for the body.
- 28:45Karen Church: The way you lose the weight needs to be the way you keep it off.
- 28:50Karen Church: One, it's sustainable.
- 28:52Karen Church: And two, you know you're gonna have that weight loss for good permanently.
- 28:58Karen Church: And if not, you're just going and doing that yo-yo dieting that happens all the time because it's so much more than the nutrition.
- 29:08Karen Church: And I tell people things need to be tailored.
- 29:12Karen Church: You need a therapeutic diet, which means something that is strictly for you.
- 29:19Karen Church: What is it that you can eat?
- 29:21Karen Church: My client, Regina, it was we had to take dairy completely out of her diet.
- 29:27Karen Church: And there was a food combination that she had to take out of her diet.
- 29:32Karen Church: You know some, for some people, it's when you eat one food alongside another food within a certain amount of time with each other that they can't digest it properly.
- 29:42Karen Church: And so, once we figured that out and started cleaning things up, everything started to work.
- 29:49Carmen Hecox: And I wanna go back; this is something that I meant to ask you.
- 29:52Carmen Hecox: I know that you said you work with doctors, and they're able to run the labs.
- 29:56Carmen Hecox: Do you know, because you're in Florida, I'm in California, is that something that I would pay for out of my own pocket, or is that something that can be billed through my insurance?
- 30:06Carmen Hecox: Do you know that at all?
- 30:08Karen Church: So, it can't be done through, the insurance won't accept it, but if you have a HSA or FSA, those flex spending accounts, so I do accept those for any of my clients who work with me.
- 30:25Karen Church: I don't believe the clinic does for the lab test.
- 30:29Karen Church: I'd have to double-check with them on that.
- 30:31Karen Church: But like I said, the lab test itself is$250.
- 30:35Karen Church: It's not; it's not anything.
- 30:38Karen Church: For the clients that go through me, normally, it's a$400 test.
- 30:43Karen Church: So, I tell people$250 is nothing.
- 30:48Karen Church: It's, to me, it's peanuts.
- 30:49Karen Church: Knowing the amount of money, I spent and the amount of time.
- 30:55Carmen Hecox: Yeah, cuz my husband, he's allergic to everything under God's green earth.
- 30:59Carmen Hecox: I remember we were talking about my interview with you, and he told me, he says, you know, I just had an allergy test done every year.
- 31:06Carmen Hecox: And he said, I looked at the EOB, he says, that's very expensive.
- 31:11Carmen Hecox: He didn't tell me how much, but he just said it's very expensive to run a full labs on trying to figure out what you're allergic to.
- 31:20Karen Church: Yeah, those are expensive.
- 31:22Karen Church: And honestly, Carmen, that's looking at an immune response.
- 31:27Karen Church: And why is the body having that immune response?
- 31:31Karen Church: I'm still hoping one day that we can get my son to not respond to peanuts.
- 31:37Karen Church: But we'll see, we'll see if we can ever get there.
- 31:40Karen Church: He certainly has a much less of a response, immune response, which is good because that means the likelihood of him going into anaphylactic shock and throat closing up is much, much less.
- 31:54Karen Church: And that's, that's life-threatening is like, okay, you get some hives, those go away.
- 31:59Karen Church: Um, but you're okay.
- 32:01Karen Church: But the other, that's, as a mom, of course, that's what I worry about.
- 32:05Carmen Hecox: That's how I am with pineapple.
- 32:06Carmen Hecox: I can't have any pineapple cuz then my throat starts closing up, and I feel like my eyes are bulging cuz I can't breathe.
- 32:14Carmen Hecox: So, I know that kids with peanut allergies are worse than that.
- 32:19Carmen Hecox: Can you talk about any client transformation, particularly those that have managed to come off medications for maintaining cholesterol, diabetes, or anxiety?
- 32:29Carmen Hecox: I know you have one.
- 32:32Karen Church: So, I have a lot.
- 32:33Karen Church: I have several.
- 32:35Karen Church: So, we talked about my client, Regina.
- 32:37Karen Church: She did come off of all of her diabetes medication and doesn't need it.
- 32:43Karen Church: And this was in less than 18 weeks.
- 32:47Karen Church: And she had been on medication for years.
- 32:50Karen Church: Her doctor could not believe it.
- 32:52Karen Church: Her doctor, when she started with me, wanted to double her medication because things were getting so serious, and the medication was making her sick to her stomach.
- 33:03Karen Church: So, she said, I just started working with this new coach.
- 33:07Karen Church: Can you just give me some time and will rerun my labs.
- 33:14Karen Church: And she turned everything around.
- 33:17Karen Church: It was completely amazing.
- 33:19Karen Church: And she had also had thyroid cancer, so she had her thyroid removed.
- 33:24Karen Church: And those who don't know, thyroid plays a big component on your metabolism and being able to lose weight.
- 33:33Karen Church: So, her thyroid labs, even though she didn't have a thyroid anymore, the function was back up.
- 33:42Karen Church: So, her doctor was almost like, oh, do we need to bump down your thyroid medication?
- 33:48Karen Church: And, uh, you know, it's amazing how even when they remove an organ, there's always still something a little bit still there.
- 33:58Karen Church: There's memory in the body of things.
- 34:01Karen Church: So that's, that's the blood sugar.
- 34:03Karen Church: My client Jane she's working to slowly come off of her medication for depression and antidepressants, and that's something that you really need to work very closely with the doctor because you can't just come off cold turkey.
- 34:20Karen Church: So, she's been stepping down off of that and has done really, really well.
- 34:25Karen Church: My client, Angela, she suffered from anxiety many, many years, had been on and off medication, and she attributes her weight gain to the medication she's been on.
- 34:38Karen Church: So, for the first time ever in her life, she has avoided going back on any of the anxiety medication.
- 34:48Karen Church: And she was also borderline with her cholesterol, and once again, she told her doctor, give me some time; I'm making some changes.
- 34:56Karen Church: So, she avoided having to go on any cholesterol medications.
- 35:01Karen Church: So, a lot of really big wins in the health area there.
- 35:06Carmen Hecox: Major, major because no one wants to be tied to a pill bottle.
- 35:13Carmen Hecox: We wanna be able to live a life as clean as possible.
- 35:20Carmen Hecox: I wanted to bring this up.
- 35:21Carmen Hecox: I know that, when we had talked before, cuz I had asked you, I said, well, I think the best diet for me is one that I enjoy the food and I don't feel like I am in a jail or something.
- 35:34Carmen Hecox: Like, here's my life sentence.
- 35:35Carmen Hecox: If I wanna continue to stay thin, these are the only foods I can eat.
- 35:41Carmen Hecox: No one wants that restriction.
- 35:42Carmen Hecox: You wanna be able to have a life that you can enjoy and be vibrant and just not be restrained.
- 35:51Karen Church: Absolutely, and that's creating a sustainable lifestyle.
- 35:55Karen Church: You know, if your favorite thing in the whole world is chocolate, and I always talk about chocolate cause I love chocolate, and you could never have chocolate again.
- 36:05Karen Church: Or you could have, like, every time you ate it, you would gain like two pounds, and then you have to work for like three weeks to get those two pounds off.
- 36:17Karen Church: That's, that's crazy.
- 36:19Karen Church: Um, you know, it's, so it comes down to knowing how your body reacts to things and then finding those substitutes.
- 36:29Karen Church: And I always.
- 36:30Karen Church: Tell people it's usually not the chocolate.
- 36:33Karen Church: It's not the certain meal that you like.
- 36:36Karen Church: And if it is, some of my clients have to avoid cane sugar.
- 36:41Karen Church: Well, there's so many sweeteners out there.
- 36:43Karen Church: Coconut sugar is, is amazing, and there is the most amazing chocolates.
- 36:50Karen Church: Um, I have nothing to do with this company.
- 36:52Karen Church: It's called Lulus, but they make these truffles, hazelnut truffles, and they use coconut sugar instead.
- 37:01Karen Church: So, I sent that to a client of mine for her birthday, cuz one, and they're dairy free cuz she has to be dairy free.
- 37:08Karen Church: She couldn't do the cane sugar.
- 37:10Karen Church: She's like, I can never have chocolate again.
- 37:12Karen Church: Because she couldn't have dairy and she couldn't have cane sugar.
- 37:16Karen Church: And most of the chocolate out there has cane sugar in it.
- 37:21Karen Church: And then the ones that are alternatives she had tasted, she's like, oh, these taste terrible.
- 37:26Karen Church: I'm never gonna be able to eat chocolate again.
- 37:27Karen Church: I said I'm gonna send you something.
- 37:30Karen Church: So, I sent her for her birthday, the Lulu Truffles, and she was just like, oh my gosh.
- 37:37Karen Church: She told her family nobody touches these.
- 37:40Karen Church: They were amazing.
- 37:42Karen Church: I said that's what I do.
- 37:44Karen Church: I researched, and I look for the products that my clients will still love and can eat but are healthy for their body.
- 37:55Carmen Hecox: Yeah, and let me just add in here that I remember you shared this with me, that you're a picky eater.
- 38:01Carmen Hecox: So not only are you doing the research, your standard is higher than most people.
- 38:07Karen Church: It is I'm, I'm very picky.
- 38:09Karen Church: If I'm going to eat something, it has to be something I enjoy.
- 38:13Karen Church: If not, I'm not gonna waste my time.
- 38:15Karen Church: I'm busy.
- 38:16Karen Church: I got something to do.
- 38:18Karen Church: You know, if it's not if it doesn't taste good to me, I'm not enjoying it.
- 38:21Karen Church: I don't want it.
- 38:22Karen Church: That's not for me.
- 38:24Karen Church: Um, I've; I remember for me, I can't eat any eggs.
- 38:28Karen Church: So baking, I had to learn to bake without eggs.
- 38:32Karen Church: So how can I make cookies?
- 38:33Karen Church: How can I make cake when it comes to birthdays?
- 38:36Karen Church: And, just learning how to do all of that.
- 38:39Karen Church: And my son, the sweetest thing, he would eat anything, and I would be like, nope.
- 38:45Karen Church: That one didn't work.
- 38:46Karen Church: Like redo, try again.
- 38:50Karen Church: Like, I wouldn't serve this to guests coming over.
- 38:54Karen Church: No.
- 38:54Karen Church: And so, yes, I am super picky.
- 38:56Karen Church: So, when I put something out there, I know 99% they're gonna like this.
- 39:04Karen Church: There's always that 1% that may not, but that's it.
- 39:08Karen Church: I'm pretty, I'm pretty good, and everyone I've shared my recipes with and, and what used and how to substitute different things to make it taste the way they're used to.
- 39:22Karen Church: One of my clients, she has a teenager, and we all know how teenagers are.
- 39:27Karen Church: And she's like, what am I gonna do at Thanksgiving?
- 39:29Karen Church: How am I gonna make the pumpkin pie?
- 39:32Karen Church: How am I gonna make the sweet potato casserole?
- 39:35Karen Church: I said I've got you covered.
- 39:37Karen Church: I'm going to; this is how you're gonna make your pumpkin pie.
- 39:40Karen Church: These are the substitutes you can use.
- 39:43Karen Church: This is how you're going to do your sweet potato castles.
- 39:45Karen Church: This is how you're gonna do this.
- 39:47Karen Church: And it was, it was so interesting her daughter did not even know the difference.
- 39:54Karen Church: Another client of mine wanted to make chili and cornbread, and so, she took my cornbread recipe, and her husband said, this is the best cornbread I've ever had.
- 40:09Karen Church: So when other people are eating the food, and they're enjoying it, and they don't even know that you've swapped out things, then you know, you've struck gold.
- 40:19Carmen Hecox: And what I like about what you just said is that you are not feeling deprived.
- 40:24Carmen Hecox: You're still having what used to be your old lifestyle.
- 40:30Carmen Hecox: You're enjoying those foods.
- 40:31Carmen Hecox: And the best part about it is that it's okay with your body.
- 40:37Carmen Hecox: It's something that there's been a lot studying and a lot of fact-finding and scientific blood lab results that say, what you can't have and what you can't have, but you're allowing people to still have that.
- 40:51Carmen Hecox: And the other thing I remember you talked about is that you said no counting calories.
- 40:58Karen Church: Oh Yes.
- 40:59Carmen Hecox: And that's so big cuz I remember I; you know, I track with my phone.
- 41:03Carmen Hecox: I ate this, I ate that, and then I have my Samsung watch, and so it tracks my activity.
- 41:09Carmen Hecox: And so, I track my intake and my activity to try to see, okay, am I budging the needle here?
- 41:16Carmen Hecox: What's cool about the way your program Reboot and Rejuvenate the education system is that it allows me to I don't have to count calories.
- 41:25Carmen Hecox: I haven't tried it for anybody.
- 41:26Carmen Hecox: I haven't tried the program, but I'm, just based on what you're saying, you don't have to count calories, you don't have to feel like you're being deprived of anything.
- 41:37Carmen Hecox: And the good news is I'm going to lose weight and my numbers at the end of the year, when the end of the year, at the beginning of the year, whenever people usually run their numbers.
- 41:47Carmen Hecox: They're going to look amazing.
- 41:49Carmen Hecox: The doctor's gonna wonder, what on earth are you doing?
- 41:53Carmen Hecox: Or if you don't need that medication anymore.
- 41:55Carmen Hecox: I mean, that's amazing.
- 41:57Karen Church: It's, it's life-changing for people, you know?
- 42:01Karen Church: That's why I love what I do.
- 42:03Karen Church: When they come back and they said, oh my gosh, Karen, you completely changed my life.
- 42:09Karen Church: And in every aspect, I'm happier, I'm healthier.
- 42:15Karen Church: And most of the time, they first talk to me because they wanna lose weight.
- 42:19Karen Church: And then I have to ask them, how much weight have you lost?
- 42:23Karen Church: Because you look like you've lost some weight.
- 42:24Karen Church: They're like, oh yeah, that's now like a second, a backseat.
- 42:28Karen Church: Like, they're like, it's not about the weight loss anymore.
- 42:31Karen Church: And they just feel so much better.
- 42:36Karen Church: And my client, Tammy, said, I didn't know what normal felt like.
- 42:42Karen Church: And that was really key because when you're used to feeling a certain way, and she's like, she would describe herself as the turtle.
- 42:51Karen Church: She would just get up in the morning.
- 42:53Karen Church: She didn't have a lot of energy, but she would just, you know, going through because.
- 42:58Karen Church: She's a mom; she's a grandma.
- 43:00Karen Church: She owns her own business.
- 43:03Karen Church: You know, she has to get things done.
- 43:05Karen Church: So, she would just go at her pace because that's all she could do and get through her day.
- 43:13Karen Church: And now she wakes up, and she is energy through the roof, you know, feels great, can do all of these things.
- 43:21Karen Church: And she's like, wow, I feel so good.
- 43:24Karen Church: And I said this is what normal feels like.
- 43:26Karen Church: She was like, I didn't know what normal felt like cuz I had lived for so many years the other way.
- 43:32Carmen Hecox: You mentioned that I thought was really important, too, was eat when you're hungry.
- 43:38Carmen Hecox: I know I tried a plan where I order my meals, and they arrived home, and this was labeled breakfast, this was labeled lunch, and so forth.
- 43:47Carmen Hecox: And then it said, and you can add these foods, which were usually vegetables and some fruit.
- 43:52Carmen Hecox: Not a lot of fruit, but vegetables.
- 43:54Carmen Hecox: And I remember, I tell my husband, I'm like, I'm still hungry.
- 43:58Carmen Hecox: Now what?
- 43:59Carmen Hecox: And so, to hear you, when we had spoken previously, you said you eat when you're hungry.
- 44:04Carmen Hecox: And I thought, isn't that nice?
- 44:05Carmen Hecox: Isn't that liberating?
- 44:07Karen Church: Yeah, it is liberating, and it's learning to listen to you.
- 44:10Karen Church: Your body tells you when you're hungry.
- 44:12Karen Church: You know, it's, I mean, obviously, if I get super busy one day and I'm like, oh my gosh, I didn't have, I didn't slow down, and I waited too long to eat, then I'm starving happens to the best of us.
- 44:27Karen Church: But you know, it's really understanding the cues and signals and making that mind-body connection.
- 44:34Karen Church: And were fueling our body properly, we don't need to eat because that food creates the fuel our body needs, you know?
- 44:46Karen Church: And in order to lose weight, you need to burn off that glucose level so that you can go into fat burning.
- 44:56Karen Church: So, it's not about the calories cause a snicker bars has so much calories, and so does a plate of salmon with a salad.
- 45:06Karen Church: How your chemistry in your body reacts to a Snickers bar versus the salmon and salad is completely different, completely different.
- 45:18Karen Church: So it's, it's not about calories, it's about what food are you putting in your body and can your body use that as the fuel that it needs?
- 45:29Karen Church: If not, it's going to send you another signal; you need to feed me cuz it didn't get what it needs to keep going.
- 45:40Carmen Hecox: Yeah.
- 45:41Carmen Hecox: And so just to, there's three phases and phase, one is more of the getting to know the client.
- 45:49Carmen Hecox: We're getting to know the person's, what they're allergic to, or what they can have or what they can't have.
- 45:56Karen Church: So, it's not just about the food that you eat.
- 45:58Karen Church: We need to do an assessment of the whole person, from the food to is there any chronic stress going on?
- 46:08Karen Church: Do we need to implement some tools to initially be able to manage that, but then work through making the life changes that need to happen to get rid of that chronic stressor?
- 46:19Karen Church: Like for me, it was making a change out of the program that I was working on to a different program and then eventually moving into, uh, being a wellness coach that completely lifts my spirit and is aligned with what I enjoy doing most.
- 46:37Karen Church: So that's the first thing is to assess all of those areas.
- 46:40Karen Church: And is there anything in your spirit which brings that emotions, that joy, that happiness?
- 46:47Karen Church: Sometimes it's a relationship issue that needs to get addressed.
- 46:51Karen Church: Um, so really deep diving into the whole person and identifying all of the things that need to be addressed and coming up with a tailored approach to how they're going to start to make these changes in their lives that are gonna bring them that balance.
- 47:10Karen Church: So that's phase one is doing that identifying all of those things.
- 47:13Karen Church: Phase two is all about, okay, this is what we're gonna do.
- 47:18Karen Church: We're gonna hit the ground running.
- 47:19Karen Church: We're gonna, if you need to do that food analysis, we do that.
- 47:24Karen Church: I recommend what to do in the meantime so that they can start feeling better.
- 47:29Karen Church: Cause it's like, who wants to wait a couple of weeks to get those results back.
- 47:34Karen Church: I was like, well, we can start doing it now cuz there's a list of things that I can recommend.
- 47:39Karen Church: Take these out and see if this starts to make a difference.
- 47:42Karen Church: Cuz it's gonna be one or two of these things.
- 47:45Karen Church: And it's not a long list; it's a list of seven, so it's not 50 like my poor son.
- 47:50Karen Church: And then creating that lifestyle that supports them.
- 47:53Karen Church: It's really phase two.
- 47:55Karen Church: And then phase three is that mind and body cleanse, firing up back up all of the systems, cleaning out the liver, just getting everything back online and really igniting everything.
- 48:08Karen Church: So now you're a clean slate.
- 48:14Carmen Hecox: And when does the, getting active.
- 48:16Carmen Hecox: Does the active phase take part in phase one, phase two, or phase three, or when does that get introduced?
- 48:23Karen Church: Sure.
- 48:24Karen Church: So, I start in phase one, and I introduce some yoga cuz yoga is really great.
- 48:31Karen Church: Especially as we age.
- 48:33Karen Church: Some people have less portability, and it just gets you moving.
- 48:37Karen Church: You know, I always recommend movement every day, but it comes into more play into phase two, where we really create that routine that is best for you.
- 48:49Karen Church: You know, some of my clients, they're like, this really isn't working for me.
- 48:53Karen Church: Well, if the movement isn't something you enjoy cause everything comes back to joy and pleasure, then you're not gonna stick with it.
- 49:02Karen Church: You know, I had a client of mine, she's like, I can't do anything that I'm on my hands and knees there's just too much weight.
- 49:10Karen Church: And I said, okay, let's get you in the pool, with the water that takes the stress off her joints.
- 49:17Karen Church: So, she just started doing that every morning and was like, yes, this is working.
- 49:22Karen Church: And so now she's worked up to she just bought a Peloton bike, and she's amazing.
- 49:28Karen Church: She's lost 95 pounds.
- 49:33Karen Church: I told her we're gonna celebrate when she hits 100.
- 49:38Karen Church: And I said it's not far away.
- 49:40Karen Church: She's losing like two pounds a week.
- 49:42Karen Church: I mean, it's just incredible that this lady and she's just amazing.
- 49:48Karen Church: And she started with just doing 30 minutes of just moving in the pool.
- 49:52Karen Church: Not even, not even laps.
- 49:55Karen Church: Cuz her, she had a small pool, wasn't, she wasn't going to the pool.
- 49:58Karen Church: She just had a pool at her house, and she would just get in there and do some exercises, and this is where she is today.
- 50:06Karen Church: So, it doesn't have to be extreme.
- 50:09Karen Church: I always thought, oh, I have to do some really extreme hard workout in order to lose weight.
- 50:14Karen Church: No, I just need to move my body a little every day.
- 50:18Karen Church: And I need to fuel my body appropriately, and I need to keep my stress down, and I need to make sure I get good night's sleep.
- 50:27Karen Church: You know, sleep is really important.
- 50:29Karen Church: That's part of the investigation we do, is how well are they sleeping?
- 50:33Karen Church: Because if you're not sleeping, you're not resting, you're not going to that rest and repair state, and that really, that's another stressor on the body.
- 50:43Karen Church: So, we look for all of those stressors and start to work each one of those in phase two.
- 50:49Carmen Hecox: Then phase three is educating about the foods to eat and learning recipes that'll kind of give you what you missed out on or what you think you're missing out on.
- 50:59Carmen Hecox: Like, if I like carrot cake, teach me how to eat healthy carrot cake.
- 51:02Karen Church: That's all in phase two.
- 51:04Karen Church: That's all, yeah, that's all in phase two.
- 51:06Karen Church: Phase three is really the mind and body cleanse, so that's when we reignite the metabolism again.
- 51:13Karen Church: When you clean the body, everything tastes differently.
- 51:18Karen Church: Like I remember my client, Brandy, she did the cleanse, and one of the things during the cleanse is, you follow this program of what to eat, that's gonna help detoxify the liver.
- 51:32Karen Church: And then, the day that she brought in the blueberry smoothie and I told her, I said, wait till you try this blueberry smoothie.
- 51:39Karen Church: I was like, it's gonna be the best blueberry smoothie.
- 51:41Karen Church: You, you actually taste your food again.
- 51:45Karen Church: Our taste buds completely change, and they get clean, and it's like, wow, I can taste my food.
- 51:53Karen Church: I said, wait till you taste this carrot celery soup.
- 51:57Karen Church: You're gonna think it's the best.
- 52:00Karen Church: You know your family won't because they haven't done the cleanse, but you're gonna think this is amazing.
- 52:08Karen Church: And she's like, oh my gosh.
- 52:09Karen Church: She was so right.
- 52:10Karen Church: This is so good.
- 52:12Karen Church: When we clean out, it's like food actually tastes good again, and simple things taste good.
- 52:19Karen Church: You can taste your food.
- 52:21Carmen Hecox: Wow, that's amazing.
- 52:23Carmen Hecox: Well, I have a question to ask you when a person is going through the detox, cuz I mean, I've gone through different plans, and when I'm going through a detox, I just feel like I'm getting ready to have a colonoscopy.
- 52:33Carmen Hecox: I'm just so sorry about that to be so graphic.
- 52:36Carmen Hecox: But you know, you know how you just feel like I just need something to just.
- 52:42Carmen Hecox: Carrying me to the next day.
- 52:44Carmen Hecox: You just feel deprived.
- 52:45Carmen Hecox: Does the cleanse do that?
- 52:46Carmen Hecox: Does your cleanse do that?
- 52:47Carmen Hecox: Do people tend to feel a little like maybe headachy because you're letting out?
- 52:51Carmen Hecox: You're letting out these toxins, and unfortunately, toxins can create headaches or itchy skin, just different things cuz it's coming out.
- 53:01Karen Church: So, it can, honestly, the ladies who have done it haven't had any severe reactions.
- 53:07Karen Church: I know that when I did previous detoxes, I felt like I was having the flu; when I did the one that I do, I did not.
- 53:19Karen Church: Why?
- 53:21Karen Church: Because I had changed my diet.
- 53:23Karen Church: I was no longer eating the food that was making me toxic.
- 53:28Karen Church: Right?
- 53:28Karen Church: This is why I have a very specific order because if we start with that detox first, it's going to make you feel terrible.
- 53:39Karen Church: And there's no need to do that.
- 53:41Karen Church: We need to start at the right step to clean everything up.
- 53:46Karen Church: And I teach them how to, there's naturopathic medicine, therapies that will accelerate the healing process in the body.
- 53:57Karen Church: And we do all of that before doing the detox.
- 54:03Karen Church: So, it makes it so much smoother, so much easier.
- 54:07Karen Church: You don't have those experiences.
- 54:09Karen Church: I haven't seen them have any extreme effects that I went through when I tried doing them.
- 54:16Karen Church: So, it's, everyone's body is different, so I'm not gonna say you're not gonna have anything, but it depends on where you are when you start, but I know that with my system, it's much, much less when I do it now, I haven't had any of those symptoms.
- 54:35Karen Church: No headaches, no body aches, pains, none of that.
- 54:39Karen Church: And it's because your system is so much cleaner, to begin with.
- 54:43Karen Church: So, there's, there's not that much that needs to come out.
- 54:46Karen Church: And I also provide very natural remedies.
- 54:49Karen Church: So, like, if you have a headache, this is what you need to do.
- 54:52Karen Church: If this happens, you all you need to do is this that will alleviate any symptoms that may pop up.
- 55:00Karen Church: So, cuz the last thing you wanna do is feel miserable for a day or two.
- 55:07Carmen Hecox: I know, like a lot of times, I can't move forward with the cleanse for whatever the detox is supposed to be.
- 55:13Carmen Hecox: Like, it's, if the three day or four day I can't because I feel so horrible.
- 55:19Carmen Hecox: And I'm a mom, and I have people that I'm responsible for, and so it's just, I think the adverse effects are the reasons why it's just so difficult to go through it.
- 55:28Carmen Hecox: And so that's good that the way you've set your program up, it just makes it to where someone can successfully go through the detox process.
- 55:37Carmen Hecox: So, Karen, where can people hear more about you and your Reboot and Rejuvenate program?
- 55:45Karen Church: Well, I have a couple of places.
- 55:47Karen Church: I do have a reboot and rejuvenate page where they can learn all about the program, and if they're interested, they can book a call with me.
- 55:56Karen Church: Cuz, I do speak to every one of my clients personally before selling them the program.
- 56:04Karen Church: I need to make sure that I can actually help them and that it's a good fit.
- 56:08Karen Church: It this is what they this is what they need, and it's the right time for them to do this program.
- 56:15Karen Church: So that's, that's one.
- 56:17Karen Church: And if you're interested in learning more about any free trainings that I have, I have a Facebook group.
- 56:25Karen Church: It's a private Facebook group, but you're, it's doesn't cost anything, it's free, and you can request to join.
- 56:32Karen Church: It's 40 and Fabulous out there.
- 56:34Karen Church: And I think Carmen, you have the link to that as well.
- 56:37Karen Church: You can provide.
- 56:38Carmen Hecox: I do, and I will provide all your links, all your social links, and links to your Facebook group, your private Facebook group that they can request, and a link to get in contact with you to schedule an appointment to do that root assessment.
- 56:53Karen Church: And I really recommend, everyone start with, I have a masterclass out there that you really get a lot of a lot more detail on what Carmen and I talked about today.
- 57:06Karen Church: And it's a wealth of information.
- 57:08Karen Church: It's an education.
- 57:09Karen Church: So.
- 57:09Karen Church: It's really an introduction to what you would see, in my program, in my teaching, and that's absolutely free as well.
- 57:18Karen Church: Cause I wanna get the message out there to more amazing women.
- 57:23Karen Church: You know, women.
- 57:24Karen Church: And that's the other thing I find that women when we learn and get better, it's a cascading effect because it impacts our whole family.
- 57:38Karen Church: Everyone gets healthier because who's buying the groceries?
- 57:42Karen Church: Who's educating our children on nutrition and movement and how to live a happy life?
- 57:51Karen Church: It's the mom.
- 57:52Karen Church: It's the mom.
- 57:53Karen Church: So, I have a lot of ladies who start, and then their husbands do the program with them because they see.
- 58:01Karen Church: They're like, wow, I'm gonna try this.
- 58:04Karen Church: I wanna do this.
- 58:05Karen Church: And it just, now the whole family is healthier.
- 58:08Karen Church: I have ladies that the mom starts, the husband starts, and then the teenage daughter starts.
- 58:15Karen Church: And it's great.
- 58:16Karen Church: You know, and since it's the program that they've purchased, I'm like, Hey, it's for your family.
- 58:22Karen Church: Teach your immediate family how to live that healthy life and bring that through.
- 58:28Carmen Hecox: And that's very important because, unfortunately, a lot of us weren't.
- 58:32Carmen Hecox: I think that we have moms that you know, that brought us into this world, and we're busy moms, and they feed us, or they teach us what they learned, and maybe those habits weren't the best habits.
- 58:46Carmen Hecox: And what do we do?
- 58:47Carmen Hecox: We turn around, and we teach our kids those same unhealthy habits.
- 58:51Carmen Hecox: And so, your program's kind of a way of correcting that cycle.
- 58:55Karen Church: Absolutely, and I mean, I was very fortunate my mom is from Spain, and so I grew up on a Mediterranean diet, and you always hear about how healthy Mediterranean diet is, and it is, but the problem is I can't eat eggs.
- 59:15Karen Church: So even though egg is a healthy food, it's a healthy form of protein.
- 59:20Karen Church: If you can eat them, eat them.
- 59:22Karen Church: It was destroying my gut.
- 59:25Karen Church: So, you can eat a healthy diet, but if you're not eating, if you're eating something that's not healthy for your body, I always tell people I view eggs as my kryptonite.
- 59:35Karen Church: So, if I was super woman, superman, eggs are my kryptonite.
- 59:40Karen Church: I have to stay away from anything that contains an egg.
- 59:44Karen Church: And learning what your kryptonite is key cuz that's gonna make all the difference.
- 59:51Carmen Hecox: And it's going to solve the problem as to why your body's not responding like it should.
- 59:58Carmen Hecox: When I listened to your mastermind, you had talked about when your liver's working properly, your body's burning calories like it should.
- 1:00:05Karen Church: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:06Karen Church: Yep.
- 1:00:07Karen Church: Your liver is part of your metabolism, is part of your digestion.
- 1:00:11Karen Church: It's your detoxifying organ; it's a protein synthesis.
- 1:00:17Karen Church: It also stores your vitamins and minerals.
- 1:00:19Karen Church: So, all those amazing, wonderful supplements that you're taking, if your liver is full and toxic, you're flushing your money down the toilet.
- 1:00:29Karen Church: It's not getting stored.
- 1:00:30Karen Church: So, it's one of, it's an amazing organ and to make sure that that's functioning right.
- 1:00:38Karen Church: And, most people are like, oh, I wanna run out and get labs on my liver.
- 1:00:43Karen Church: Well, unfortunately, what doctors are looking for is disease, and you have to wait a long time.
- 1:00:50Karen Church: And maybe it'll never become disease, you know, cuz they're looking for a specific number.
- 1:00:56Karen Church: But optimal function is what I'm referring to here.
- 1:01:00Karen Church: You know, that's the difference.
- 1:01:01Carmen Hecox: Yeah, and the thing that I'll have to brag to people here is about what's unique about your program is that you have been trained to be an engineer, and so you have designed this program with the engineering mentality.
- 1:01:15Karen Church: Yes.
- 1:01:16Karen Church: Yes.
- 1:01:17Karen Church: So, the root cause investigation that I do is exactly what we do in engineering when there is a system failure.
- 1:01:28Karen Church: Because when we're not able to lose weight, or we're gaining weight, or we have headaches, or we have this, all of these things, that's a system failure in the body, in the person.
- 1:01:41Karen Church: And so, we need to look at the, what's going on in the body, what's going on in the mind, and what's going on with the spirit.
- 1:01:48Karen Church: So, it's a holistic approach and systematic integrative approach.
- 1:01:54Karen Church: And then, where do we start?
- 1:01:58Karen Church: How are we going to start so that we do things in the right order, uh, to get those optimal results and get the results that are going to last?
- 1:02:09Karen Church: That's the other thing that is super frustrating is, like, anyone can put you on a diet and you're gonna lose some weight, but is it gonna, are you going to reach your goal and is it sustainable and is it going to last?
- 1:02:24Carmen Hecox: Yeah, and that's the most important part is getting there and staying there, continuing to live a healthy life from that point forward.
- 1:02:34Karen Church: Right.
- 1:02:35Karen Church: I had my son at 39, so I wanna be around for my grandchildren.
- 1:02:41Karen Church: I'm gonna be, I'm already one of the older moms at the school, so I can imagine if he waits as long as I did to have kids.
- 1:02:49Karen Church: Oh boy.
- 1:02:52Carmen Hecox: Well, Karen, thank you so much for being on the show.
- 1:02:55Carmen Hecox: I look forward to having you on again.
- 1:02:59Karen Church: Well, thank you, Carmen.
- 1:03:00Karen Church: It's been my pleasure.
- 1:03:02Karen Church: I've loved chatting with you and thank you for having me.
- 1:03:06Carmen Hecox: Wow.
- 1:03:07Carmen Hecox: Karen is amazing.
- 1:03:10Carmen Hecox: I really love that Karen looks at each person as an individual and understands that we are all different and that what may work for you may not work for me.
- 1:03:22Carmen Hecox: I also appreciate that she uses science to help figure out what kind of warning signals the body could be sending us that something is wrong.
- 1:03:32Carmen Hecox: Understanding the science behind why the body is not responding to diet or exercise is essential, and Karen totally gets it.
- 1:03:42Carmen Hecox: Did I fail to mention she's an aerospace engineer as well?
- 1:03:46Carmen Hecox: Engineers are taught to look for possible fault codes when things are not working correctly.
- 1:03:53Carmen Hecox: Therefore, Karen's engineering training is the same approach she uses when working with people; she's looking at the whole body to figure out where's the fault code and what can be done to get your body working as it was intended to.
- 1:04:09Carmen Hecox: Karen is currently offering a free masterclass for those who are interested in knowing more about her and her program.
- 1:04:18Carmen Hecox: The link to Karen's masterclass and today's transcripts can be found at createthebestme.com/ep018.
