Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So we've got the job seeker numbers were up yesterday,
- 0:03Speaker 1: not good for the government's target, up eight thousand people
- 0:07Speaker 1: on the job seeker over the last quarter, a total
- 0:09Speaker 1: now two hundred thousand. The target for the government, remember,
- 0:13Speaker 1: is fifty thousand by twenty thirty. But a question arose
- 0:17Speaker 1: at Postcab yesterday should you be forced to move for
- 0:20Speaker 1: a job and should you be punished if you don't
- 0:23Speaker 1: move for that job? The Minister Louise ups and insisting
- 0:26Speaker 1: that the sanctions are just for those who are looking
- 0:30Speaker 1: for work and are not complying with those requirements.
- 0:34Speaker 2: They're not being punished if they can't find a job.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It's about the common sense steps that they need to
- 0:39Speaker 2: take and look for some people, they'll have a house,
- 0:42Speaker 2: they'll have kids in school, they'll bet a whole bunch
- 0:44Speaker 2: of life circumstances they have to deal with any mesd
- 0:48Speaker 2: you take that into consideration.
- 0:50Speaker 1: They're to a pay who district's being hammered by job
- 0:52Speaker 1: cuts recently, Western curtains the Marry's with us this morning.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Good morning Western, Yes, good morning Ryan, Good to have
- 0:57Speaker 1: you on the show. Tell me how are you guys
- 0:59Speaker 1: getting on one hundred and thirty job cuts from Windstone,
- 1:01Speaker 1: Pope are where is everyone?
- 1:06Speaker 3: Well, I'm moving around, Ryan, that's obviously You've got only
- 1:09Speaker 3: a limited number of opportunities in our district. So we
- 1:11Speaker 3: do have one or two businesses in the seasonal basis
- 1:14Speaker 3: that take people, and we traditionally have a high unemployment
- 1:18Speaker 3: rate in our area anyway. But to have two thirty jobs,
- 1:22Speaker 3: you know, taken away from us is a huge impact
- 1:25Speaker 3: in the economy, and we are losing these people primarily overseas.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Some of those go overseas with their skill sets, but
- 1:35Speaker 3: the mill impact is huge to us. But we're doing
- 1:38Speaker 3: our best as a council and as a community to
- 1:42Speaker 3: keep those people in our towns. And there's a huge
- 1:46Speaker 3: impact to us, you know, the families that have to
- 1:48Speaker 3: move away. Is this to me?
- 1:49Speaker 1: No, it's massive. Is anyone being forced to move or
- 1:53Speaker 1: is MSD saying we will pay you the job, seek
- 1:56Speaker 1: your benefit so long as you keep up with your
- 1:58Speaker 1: requirements until you find a job in the district.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Well, I're simply not there, Ryan. The jobs that these
- 2:06Speaker 3: people are accustomed to just simply not there. So you
- 2:09Speaker 3: can't just force people into other work that not skill
- 2:12Speaker 3: haven't got the skill sets a lot of the people
- 2:14Speaker 3: that the government is trying to focus on, as I understand,
- 2:17Speaker 3: the people that hadn't had jobs for some time, so
- 2:20Speaker 3: those jobs seekers, they don't have licenses, and it's just
- 2:23Speaker 3: unfortunate that, you know, we do see cuts in areas
- 2:27Speaker 3: like licensing for example. We understand next year the people
- 2:32Speaker 3: that deliver on licensing for example, are going to lose
- 2:35Speaker 3: their funding. For people that vulnerable people that need a license,
- 2:41Speaker 3: they sometimes can't afford to, you know, come in there
- 2:45Speaker 3: and go through the process for a car license, but
- 2:47Speaker 3: that funding is cutting, has been cut. So it's unfortunate
- 2:51Speaker 3: that on one hand, you know, we're trying to get
- 2:53Speaker 3: people into work, and then the other is that we
- 2:55Speaker 3: hear that they're funding going to be cut, so we're
- 2:59Speaker 3: trying to deal with with em Steve to try and
- 3:01Speaker 3: get that reinstated. So that's problem. I think.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that the hard Leg and a whole
- 3:05Speaker 1: bunch of others do great work with those with licensing
- 3:08Speaker 1: and Westin thank you very much for that. Sounds like
- 3:10Speaker 1: there's not much of an issue, more of a storm
- 3:12Speaker 1: and a teacup when it comes to claims that MISD
- 3:15Speaker 1: would force you to move and get out of town. Basically,
- 3:20Speaker 1: if you wanted to get yourself a benefit.
