Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Dairy and zed State of the Dairy Nation Report twenty
- 0:03Speaker 1: four to twenty five season. They have produced the most
- 0:06Speaker 1: milk ever twenty one billion liters, export earnings highest ever
- 0:11Speaker 1: twenty seven billion. Karl Dene fed Farmer's dairy chair with
- 0:14Speaker 1: us this morning, Morning, Carl Morning, Ryan Worth celebrating.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Definitely worth celebrating. So that performance on dairy farms is
- 0:24Speaker 2: continuing to increase, and by the looks of the report,
- 0:27Speaker 2: also profitability which flows through to what this government needs,
- 0:32Speaker 2: which is tax revenue.
- 0:34Speaker 1: The increase the production per cow is interesting. Can you
- 0:39Speaker 1: explain how we're getting more out of them?
- 0:42Speaker 2: So every year we get slightly better production per cow
- 0:46Speaker 2: just through due to genetics and due to the fact
- 0:51Speaker 2: that farmers are constantly refining their practices and getting the
- 0:55Speaker 2: most that they can efficiency wise out of animals and
- 0:59Speaker 2: out of the well, making sure they're not using any
- 1:02Speaker 2: more input inputs.
- 1:04Speaker 1: So the herd testing, how important is that to making
- 1:07Speaker 1: sure that you know if you're testing the herd and
- 1:09Speaker 1: then you're mating with the right size.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So it's very important that farmers have the most data
- 1:16Speaker 2: possible to make those decisions. So the idea herd testing
- 1:20Speaker 2: is knowing exactly what the production of h cow is
- 1:23Speaker 2: and therefore being able to make that cow to the
- 1:26Speaker 2: best sire to make sure that you get the best offs.
- 1:29Speaker 1: One makes sense. So this is genetics, this is data.
- 1:33Speaker 1: How does our efficiency how does your output per cow
- 1:37Speaker 1: compare to the rest of the world.
- 1:39Speaker 2: So our output per cow doesn't look great compared to
- 1:44Speaker 2: the rest of the world because we are one of
- 1:46Speaker 2: the only countries in the world that are on a
- 1:48Speaker 2: pasture based system and our only carve once a year.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So for that sort of system, were doing very well.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But there's only about three countries in the world that
- 1:59Speaker 2: really do that well, and New Songs the leader of those.
- 2:03Speaker 1: That's also why I milk so good though, right it is.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Indeed why a milk is some of the best in
- 2:08Speaker 2: the world.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Car appreciate your time and congratulations. This morning Caldene fed
- 2:12Speaker 1: Farmer's Dry Cheer. For more from early edition with Ryan Bridge,
