- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:09Speaker 1: original poet, Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered. Me and Evan were
- 0:19Speaker 1: about to have to run the show, but then our savior,
- 0:23Speaker 1: the old Man, came in. He's he's got the breadth
- 0:26Speaker 1: of knowledge that we need. Now, why do they want
- 0:27Speaker 1: to do that? What's the benefit? Why? Why is that
- 0:29Speaker 1: better than what they haven't out? Why does anyone want
- 0:31Speaker 1: to do anything? I like he's in game adjustments. I
- 0:33Speaker 1: like when he calls him out. Thank you. Jason Tatum
- 0:36Speaker 1: plays way too much. I wasn't an emay girl. I mean,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I mean he never hit on you. Well no oh.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Ju Drew posted a Valentine's Day card James Bradberry's face
- 0:49Speaker 1: on it. That's saying I just saw the ownership group,
- 0:53Speaker 1: who I don't have any left? One of them dressed
- 0:55Speaker 1: up like Krouella de Villa. Really, like, do you have
- 0:56Speaker 1: to dress the part of just like an evil rich villain?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Like I've never ever met anybody who despises a team
- 1:03Speaker 1: because of their ownership group. She has me too. Whenever
- 1:06Speaker 1: I see Gracie Hunt on Instagram like they're just like
- 1:08Speaker 1: everything's been hinted. I would have to know who Gracie
- 1:10Speaker 1: Hunt is to know where she's daughter. I'm reaching beautiful
- 1:13Speaker 1: and I'm gonna own the team someday. Suck it. Yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 1: this is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome
- 1:22Speaker 1: to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Jules Stadium,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and it's good to be back kinda you know, Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 1: it's good to be back. It's good to have you back. Yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 1: it's not as warm here. Yeah, it sounds like, yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 1: you guys held down the fort reliably last week. I
- 1:38Speaker 1: think I'll polis here. I don't know, Morrell. I mean
- 1:40Speaker 1: I thought we were getting that in post guy a podcast. Baby,
- 1:43Speaker 1: it's come on, bleep you did a bleep? Oh yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I pulled a duce. I didn't notice that during the show. Oh,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I set it right away. I go, wow, it's been
- 1:51Speaker 1: it's been at least ten years since I swore on
- 1:53Speaker 1: the radio. I was taken with When when did you
- 1:55Speaker 1: even start completing each other sentences? Yeah? Well we just
- 1:57Speaker 1: got each other. It's cute. It was funny because because
- 2:00Speaker 1: because Alex was like using the time out thing as
- 2:03Speaker 1: like a point, We're like, he kind of doesn't call him.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So I heard Evan this morning on the one of
- 2:12Speaker 1: Paul's stations, Yeah, Toucher and the Rich. I don't know
- 2:15Speaker 1: how it got up that early seven twenty. That That's
- 2:17Speaker 1: all I thought of. I was like, how is Evan
- 2:19Speaker 1: up this early? And from the sounds of it, it it
- 2:21Speaker 1: was a huge to do in the Lazar household, trying
- 2:23Speaker 1: to rally Evan for a seven twenty radio I got.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I've been getting flak for it all morning. Everybody in
- 2:29Speaker 1: the house is all thrown off the routine. You're up
- 2:32Speaker 1: before eight am. You're not getting on a plane and
- 2:34Speaker 1: you're up before eight am. What's going on here? So
- 2:37Speaker 1: it's just going to be a regular gig or just no,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I don't think so. But it was my first time
- 2:41Speaker 1: on on Toucher and Rich. I've been on well with
- 2:44Speaker 1: Jones until he t know, a bunch of times at night,
- 2:47Speaker 1: but first time during the day on the sports up that. Yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 1: So now you could do Jones' show with him on EA.
- 2:53Speaker 1: You could be like me, Da dabbles back and forth.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So I went on with who was it went on
- 3:01Speaker 1: with somebody over there, and I texted Barth and I
- 3:04Speaker 1: was like, I'm going I'm going on on the rival,
- 3:07Speaker 1: just an fyi and he was like, don't don't make
- 3:10Speaker 1: a habit of that. So I I don't. I don't.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I do. I do the podcast with Fitzi and Andy,
- 3:15Speaker 1: but so far no one's told me, yeah, you gotta
- 3:18Speaker 1: stop doing that. So I'm not gonna stop. Yeah, they
- 3:21Speaker 1: have no right to say that. You know, you don't
- 3:22Speaker 1: have a contract or anything. No, a non exclusive, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't compete. But they do pay me and the other
- 3:29Speaker 1: station doesn't. Well, so I gotta get one of those.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah money. I was on Sunday but Evan, you would
- 3:38Speaker 1: work for Jersey my gift cards? Right? Oh? Absolutely, that's
- 3:41Speaker 1: getting paid and my who wouldn't. Yeah, I mean I
- 3:47Speaker 1: heard you, Paul, and I thought the same thing. I'm like,
- 3:48Speaker 1: Sunday morning, what are you doing up this early? And
- 3:51Speaker 1: Ted was going on this long thing. He was teaing
- 3:53Speaker 1: up for a while at the open yeah, and I
- 3:55Speaker 1: was like, what is going I thought we're going to
- 3:56Speaker 1: hit the brake. The show started and he was like
- 4:00Speaker 1: setting the table and I had you know when someone's like,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know, sort of teeming you up and you start
- 4:05Speaker 1: thinking what you're gonna say. You know, I have four
- 4:10Speaker 1: different things I was gonna say to start before he
- 4:13Speaker 1: finally stopped, and I was like all over the place.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I was like, I thought we were going to hit
- 4:17Speaker 1: the break before he was done with his open Okay, Teddy.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Teddy likes to talk. He good guys, good guy, takes them,
- 4:24Speaker 1: says hello again. By the way, he loves you for
- 4:26Speaker 1: I need to talk to him. Prolo therapy, like, is
- 4:30Speaker 1: it really work? They that's something like insurance doesn't pay
- 4:34Speaker 1: for it yet, but it's like the new thing where
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know, like if you have arthritis pain or joint
- 4:40Speaker 1: pain without surgery, without steroids, like they use what's in
- 4:46Speaker 1: your body to heal item. Yeah, it's like that. Yeah. Um,
- 4:50Speaker 1: And I was talking to my time doesn't care for it.
- 4:52Speaker 1: He says, you know, it's on the stink face that
- 4:54Speaker 1: FA approved yet, but in two three years it could
- 4:57Speaker 1: be the thing. So I don't know. And Teddy's a
- 5:00Speaker 1: he's he's on cutting edge. All he does the commercial
- 5:02Speaker 1: does commercials for it. I don't. Yeah, that's why I
- 5:04Speaker 1: wanted it. I always wondered that because Hardy does the
- 5:06Speaker 1: the commercial for like the quick freeze, like the fat freeze,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and like the Hardy really get his fat frozen off
- 5:10Speaker 1: at him. Well, that's a whole different thing. Yeah, like
- 5:13Speaker 1: you always have to do that on radio show ads
- 5:14Speaker 1: we were like, go to my doctor, doctor Matthew lit' presty, Like,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I mean, I know that the hair replacement thing is,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I have a lot of fat. Talk to Hardy. I'm like,
- 5:21Speaker 1: where did they freeze it? Brother? Get an ice cube
- 5:24Speaker 1: whenever you hear awake in one eighty We're like, oh, Greg,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you know that's part with a belt of ice cold
- 5:30Speaker 1: mill of light cans around his stomach melting off. That'd
- 5:34Speaker 1: be good multi use. Yeah, there you go, cold beer
- 5:38Speaker 1: and then when you've done, you drink a beer, put
- 5:40Speaker 1: it right back on. Yeah. Perfect, All right, what are
- 5:42Speaker 1: we talking about today besides nonsense? Matthew Slaters bad extension? Yeah, um,
- 5:49Speaker 1: I had, I mean, we had a feeling that mccordy
- 5:52Speaker 1: wouldn't be back, but Slater good possibility he would be right.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And it seems like mccordy's still on the fence from
- 5:58Speaker 1: some of the stuff I saw this morning, still wavering.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It says it would probably make a decision by free agents.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Tough to give up that cash, it really is. It's
- 6:08Speaker 1: a lot of money to walk away from. But there's
- 6:09Speaker 1: also a lot of money in TV as well. Like
- 6:12Speaker 1: I think you don't get out yes and you don't
- 6:14Speaker 1: give me up. I think that him and his brother
- 6:16Speaker 1: are both great TV personalities, and I think that there's,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you know, the possibility for him still to make a
- 6:22Speaker 1: lot of money. I would love it if Jason like
- 6:24Speaker 1: worked to be a play by play guy and then
- 6:26Speaker 1: he could be in the booth with his brother. That
- 6:28Speaker 1: would be awesome. That would be pretty cool. Yeah, I'd
- 6:30Speaker 1: listened to that broadcast interest with the voices sound very similar,
- 6:34Speaker 1: so you kind of the same guy a little bit,
- 6:38Speaker 1: but like brothers doing play by play and call a commentary.
- 6:41Speaker 1: That would be kind of interesting. Yeah, kind of like
- 6:43Speaker 1: the Mannings, but they probably get into arguments and that'd
- 6:46Speaker 1: be cool. Oh sure, yeah, for sure. I mean I
- 6:48Speaker 1: love now that Jason. Anytime that Devin would either like
- 6:52Speaker 1: miss an interception, like it would touch his hands and
- 6:54Speaker 1: he would drop it. The next day on Good Morning Football,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you can bet that he was pulling up that play
- 6:59Speaker 1: talk about brothers of four man, I mean, don't let
- 7:01Speaker 1: you forget the mistakes, the bad ones. Yeah, by the way,
- 7:04Speaker 1: it's deuced, it's Tamara, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me,
- 7:07Speaker 1: it's Matt and the booth. Uh here for the next
- 7:10Speaker 1: two hours. Full house. Yeah, full house. I didn't I
- 7:12Speaker 1: didn't get to talk to you guys about the Super Bowl. Um,
- 7:15Speaker 1: no thoughts. Good game, Yeah, it was a good game. Um.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I was down at a Ruby watching it, and I
- 7:21Speaker 1: went to this outdoor party. They had a big shameless
- 7:24Speaker 1: plug after laid out, like I just I just want
- 7:28Speaker 1: to set the scene if they had to speak outdoor
- 7:30Speaker 1: screen and you pay tickets to get in, um, you know,
- 7:34Speaker 1: food and everything. So it was great. Uh, A lot
- 7:37Speaker 1: of Philly fans, like maybe one table of Kansas City fans,
- 7:42Speaker 1: Like if anyone else that were wearing colors, it was
- 7:45Speaker 1: Philly fans. So the call comes at the end, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: the call, and there was a Philly guy next to
- 7:51Speaker 1: me who was freaking livid. I mean, the F bomb
- 7:55Speaker 1: started coming out and BS call just walked into the ocean.
- 8:01Speaker 1: His wife is like getting like nervous, you know, But
- 8:04Speaker 1: I don't. I don't blame him. I mean, if I
- 8:06Speaker 1: was a Patriots. If that happened to the Patriots, I'd
- 8:08Speaker 1: have been lived too. I mean, I don't think that
- 8:11Speaker 1: call gets made first game or the regular season. It
- 8:15Speaker 1: was so so ticky tack and to wait until the
- 8:18Speaker 1: end of the game. I hated to make that call.
- 8:20Speaker 1: That was terrible. I hated it. It was the same
- 8:22Speaker 1: to me as the AFC Championship game. Yeah, I mean
- 8:25Speaker 1: I think I see it. It's a penalty. It happened,
- 8:28Speaker 1: but that keep the flag in your pocket. Just like
- 8:30Speaker 1: they hit out a bound. I think Kansas City wins anyway,
- 8:32Speaker 1: even without that, because they have a chance to tie it,
- 8:36Speaker 1: if you know. But they had a chance to win
- 8:38Speaker 1: in Yeah, Kansas cy is gonna kick a field goal,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you're down. They could out and score a time. I
- 8:42Speaker 1: don't think they would, Okay, yeah, I think they might. Yeah. No,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I was arguing with my wife. Yeah, I don't think
- 8:49Speaker 1: it would happen. Okay, you're right, honey. Yeah. Anyway, it
- 8:52Speaker 1: was an awful, awful call. Awful call. I watched a
- 8:55Speaker 1: little bit of the XFL over the weekend. Yeah, and
- 8:59Speaker 1: am I not surprised and they had actually with him?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Maybe not, because like you know, he has other unlike both.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Sorry Alex. Anyways, so they have this rule in the
- 9:13Speaker 1: XFL that they have what's called a super challenge for
- 9:17Speaker 1: the coach, and the coach can challenge anything. It's only
- 9:21Speaker 1: one challenge though, but you can challenge a penalty, you
- 9:24Speaker 1: can challenge a non penalty, you can challenge literally anything
- 9:28Speaker 1: that happens on the field once a game. And I
- 9:31Speaker 1: thought it was an interesting rule because in this case,
- 9:33Speaker 1: maybe they still uphold the holding penalty, but at least
- 9:36Speaker 1: they make the refs take a look at it and
- 9:38Speaker 1: have a conversation of whether or not that was really
- 9:40Speaker 1: a hold or not, and we give these coaches an
- 9:43Speaker 1: opportunity to to maybe sway them the other way. You know,
- 9:47Speaker 1: I think that would be an interesting rule. It's not
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's not making it unlimited challenges or anything. It's once
- 9:54Speaker 1: a game you have a super challenge. You have to
- 9:56Speaker 1: have a time out in order to use it, because
- 9:59Speaker 1: you have to burn the time out if you're if
- 10:01Speaker 1: you're wrong. But if the two minute rule would have
- 10:04Speaker 1: to be over ruled too, because under two minutes right,
- 10:08Speaker 1: just right. So I think that that's how it is
- 10:10Speaker 1: in that league. I think is that the two minute
- 10:14Speaker 1: within the two minutes. There's a couple of things with
- 10:17Speaker 1: with the XFL, and in all serious I caught probably
- 10:20Speaker 1: not as much as Evan did, but I caught, uh,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you know, a little stretch on Saturday of two different games,
- 10:28Speaker 1: and they have some things that the NFL should look at.
- 10:31Speaker 1: In terms of what Evan's talking about. I'm sure the
- 10:34Speaker 1: NFL is um, but you know, we can talk about,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know, some other things before we get to the
- 10:38Speaker 1: xf The XFL might be a little later in the show.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I think Bill Belichick has always been a proponent of
- 10:43Speaker 1: everything should be challenged. I'm really intrigued by the whole
- 10:45Speaker 1: kick Do you see what they do with the kickoffs?
- 10:47Speaker 1: I know it's not they did it the last time
- 10:49Speaker 1: they had the XFL, but I think this, I think
- 10:52Speaker 1: that's worth looking at. Their system on kickoffs is very interesting.
- 10:57Speaker 1: What is it to basically aligne everybody up? And I
- 11:00Speaker 1: think it's like a five or ten yard window. You
- 11:03Speaker 1: kickoff from the regular spot, like the thirty five or
- 11:05Speaker 1: whatever it is, and the receiving team has all their
- 11:11Speaker 1: guys is the other at the other thirty right. It
- 11:15Speaker 1: basically sets up like it's a line of screw, you know,
- 11:18Speaker 1: like on offense or defense and so that there's no
- 11:20Speaker 1: run up to the collision. It's more it's a it's
- 11:24Speaker 1: a very ten guys right lined up five yards apart.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So the kickoff team is at the thirty five, the
- 11:31Speaker 1: kick receiving team is at the thirty. There's a returner
- 11:34Speaker 1: back in the end zone and a kickoff guy that's
- 11:36Speaker 1: way back on the other side of the field. So
- 11:39Speaker 1: they kick it and no one's allowed to move until
- 11:41Speaker 1: the returner catches the ball. So it ends up being
- 11:45Speaker 1: you eliminate the long run ups to the collisions that
- 11:49Speaker 1: cause a lot of penalties, I mean injuries. But if
- 11:51Speaker 1: the kick doesn't make it to the line, if the
- 11:54Speaker 1: if the short kick, like to the thirty five. Yeah, oh,
- 12:00Speaker 1: so they're lined up where the kick is. No, but like,
- 12:04Speaker 1: when did you ever seen a kid you mean, like
- 12:05Speaker 1: if they squib it or something. I don't think you're
- 12:07Speaker 1: allowed to do that. Okay, but I don't you know,
- 12:09Speaker 1: what's a good question. I don't have to answer that,
- 12:11Speaker 1: d you. No, I don't think that they factored that in.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I don't think they did either. They get it. It's
- 12:18Speaker 1: a very fair it's the whole thing. But basically so
- 12:22Speaker 1: In other words, you're kicking off from back here everybodybody,
- 12:26Speaker 1: and then when the returner catches it and they've done.
- 12:28Speaker 1: And it's obviously a short sample because the XFL ran
- 12:32Speaker 1: for what half a year before the pandemic came in,
- 12:35Speaker 1: right and now, so it's it's not a lot of data.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But I think the average starting point is the thirty
- 12:42Speaker 1: one yard line, and the injuries are down, so break one.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I don't know about penalties, but the injuries are the
- 12:50Speaker 1: big thing. If you can knock special teams penalties down,
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm all for it. Oh, I agree, But I think
- 12:55Speaker 1: that what they want to really knock down a special
- 12:57Speaker 1: team's injuries. They claim that an ab normal percentage of
- 13:00Speaker 1: concussions occur on special teams, really, and I just have
- 13:04Speaker 1: to think that it's at least partially responsible as a
- 13:07Speaker 1: result of the long run ups. I just wonder what
- 13:10Speaker 1: the numbers are like for returners, you know, And what
- 13:12Speaker 1: does the potential to catch a crease when you don't
- 13:15Speaker 1: have everybody coming running down, you know, full speed, losing
- 13:18Speaker 1: their lanes. How much more likely is it? Yeah, I
- 13:20Speaker 1: think you're gonna you're gonna cash one. It plays out
- 13:23Speaker 1: similar to a handoff right Essentially, Yeah, it's get through
- 13:26Speaker 1: the line and you might make one. So I think
- 13:29Speaker 1: what's interesting from a strategic standpoint is do you put
- 13:33Speaker 1: it as the coverage team? Because if you put everybody
- 13:38Speaker 1: all eleven or ten of your guys because the kicker
- 13:40Speaker 1: all ten of your guys up on the line of scrimmage,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and they get through one guy, then all of a sudden,
- 13:46Speaker 1: it you know, there's nobody behind them. So how do
- 13:48Speaker 1: you kind of stagger your guys and and what gaps
- 13:51Speaker 1: do you cover on the line, and who you know
- 13:53Speaker 1: do you play guys off the line? Like how you
- 13:54Speaker 1: kind of plus like the scenario where like the kickers
- 13:57Speaker 1: coming late. So if a guy does kind of right
- 14:00Speaker 1: through that first level, I mean you have like a
- 14:02Speaker 1: one on one with a kicker kind of like I
- 14:03Speaker 1: mean not you know, VINETII running down herschel walker, but
- 14:06Speaker 1: like more of like one of those angling drills that
- 14:08Speaker 1: you see them do all the time of practice where
- 14:10Speaker 1: it's like open space one. You know, it's tough play
- 14:12Speaker 1: for the kicker, I can imagine, And the only thing
- 14:14Speaker 1: is like don't forget now that the returner is catching
- 14:17Speaker 1: the ball thirty yards behind everybody so he does have
- 14:20Speaker 1: a little bit of a run up by the time
- 14:22Speaker 1: he gets to the congestion. It's not just like, well,
- 14:26Speaker 1: if I can hit a scene here, there's nobody there.
- 14:28Speaker 1: They're all sort of you know, it's like electronic football.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Right once the play start, everybody's everywhere, you know, I
- 14:35Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, one of the most exciting plays
- 14:38Speaker 1: in football is the kickoff return. But I might be
- 14:40Speaker 1: in favor of eliminating the kickoff. You know. We're at
- 14:44Speaker 1: a point now where I think it's forty percent of
- 14:46Speaker 1: kickoffs or touchbacks to begin with. Ye, So to Paul's
- 14:51Speaker 1: point about injuries, if they don't make it a safer play,
- 14:54Speaker 1: then that's we're trending towards that because it's a non
- 14:57Speaker 1: competitive play for the most part anyways, at this point. Yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 1: so we're definitely this is a nice solution. I know
- 15:03Speaker 1: that they're working. The XFL has worked in conjunction with
- 15:07Speaker 1: the NFL on some of these rule changes to almost
- 15:10Speaker 1: test it out in the XFL to see how it
- 15:12Speaker 1: looks in real time, similar to how the minor league
- 15:15Speaker 1: Baseball system has the pitch clock, and they're looking at
- 15:19Speaker 1: it to see how it will work for the majors.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So I do think that there's some of that going
- 15:23Speaker 1: on with some of these rules that the NFL is like, oh,
- 15:26Speaker 1: we've been thinking about doing something like this. Why if
- 15:29Speaker 1: you guys do it, then we can see it in
- 15:31Speaker 1: practice and how it works out. That would have been
- 15:33Speaker 1: nice for the Patriots this year, especially with a lot
- 15:36Speaker 1: of us being returned for touchdowns. Yeah, so except for
- 15:38Speaker 1: the punt to Marcus Jones, we could keep it on
- 15:40Speaker 1: that side. Yeah yeah, yeah, except for the Jets game.
- 15:43Speaker 1: That could have been really helpful for the Patriots. I
- 15:45Speaker 1: really do wonder, like in the boardrooms of the NFL,
- 15:49Speaker 1: if they're secretly really hoping that the XFL does succeed,
- 15:54Speaker 1: because then you have that farm system and then you
- 15:57Speaker 1: then you can say forget about it. Double A rules,
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know about being three years in the NC double
- 16:04Speaker 1: A like, as long as you have two years in
- 16:07Speaker 1: a minor league, semipro or pro system, then you're eligible
- 16:12Speaker 1: for the draft and you don't have to go to
- 16:13Speaker 1: college in order to play in the NFL. You know. Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 1: I wonder if there's secretly hoping for that. I mean,
- 16:19Speaker 1: it works in the MLB obviously, so it's like why
- 16:21Speaker 1: couldn't it work in the MLB? It works on every
- 16:24Speaker 1: other sport. I mean I caught a tweet from Evan
- 16:26Speaker 1: which I don't know if this is what you guys
- 16:28Speaker 1: were talking about, but I think you're saying something the
- 16:29Speaker 1: effect of like letting guys like Train Nixon or practice
- 16:32Speaker 1: squad players. Was that what you were saying, which which
- 16:35Speaker 1: would be I mean, certainly would bring a lot more
- 16:37Speaker 1: attention to the league if you had guys that were
- 16:39Speaker 1: on your practice squads that are still under rights to
- 16:41Speaker 1: your team, you know, I mean ever said you would
- 16:43Speaker 1: be breaking down film probably, but it's true you would
- 16:46Speaker 1: bring the NFL fans. I'd have a lot more investment
- 16:48Speaker 1: in that league if there were players that you know,
- 16:50Speaker 1: could potentially I don't know if it would work that
- 16:52Speaker 1: way for it, if it would transform into a minor
- 16:54Speaker 1: league like that, because I think everybody that plays is
- 16:58Speaker 1: done with college and mostly but probably you have to
- 17:03Speaker 1: go you have to attend to college in order to
- 17:06Speaker 1: get in the NFL. Is that fair? Well, no, you don't.
- 17:09Speaker 1: You just have to be three years removed from your
- 17:11Speaker 1: high school graduate one one something like that. Yeah, that's
- 17:16Speaker 1: an age, but it's an age. But where do you
- 17:18Speaker 1: get to play, right, I guess. But what I'm saying
- 17:21Speaker 1: is there's nobody in the XFL or the USFL now
- 17:24Speaker 1: that didn't play in college, right, But because you wouldn't
- 17:27Speaker 1: make it, No, because they thought they had they had
- 17:29Speaker 1: to go to college in order to get to the NFL. Well,
- 17:32Speaker 1: because you wouldn't make it otherwise, what are you going
- 17:34Speaker 1: to play it for the mar as you would say
- 17:36Speaker 1: the Marboro or Shamrock. That's what I'm saying. So if
- 17:37Speaker 1: there is this legitimate minor league, you would have an alternative,
- 17:41Speaker 1: an alternate path. Yeah, I'm just not sure that they
- 17:43Speaker 1: would make it. I don't I'm not sure if some
- 17:45Speaker 1: high school kid who doesn't want to go to college
- 17:47Speaker 1: would make it in the XFL. Like I know it
- 17:49Speaker 1: sounds silly, but Evan will tell you he watched some
- 17:51Speaker 1: of these games. There's a lot of recognizable names. Yeah
- 17:54Speaker 1: that are playing. Ben di Nucci looked like Patrick Mahomes,
- 17:56Speaker 1: did he really? Oh yeah he was. He was throwing dimes.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Mccaron was one of the quarterbacks. I saw Geronimo Allison
- 18:02Speaker 1: playing Josh Gordon. Yeah. They went just funny. Like every
- 18:06Speaker 1: once in a while you would listen and watch the
- 18:08Speaker 1: game and you'd be like, oh, d Ford I think
- 18:10Speaker 1: was one of the running backs, Like, oh, I remember him,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I remember him. You know he was on the Packers.
- 18:15Speaker 1: This guy was. You know, there's a handful of a
- 18:19Speaker 1: two minute what's really like, So there's some rules, walking
- 18:23Speaker 1: rules about clock stoppages. Inside of two minutes, it stops
- 18:26Speaker 1: like it's college rules, So it stops at first downs
- 18:29Speaker 1: to try to incentivize comebacks like they want. They don't
- 18:31Speaker 1: like that, they want the exciting endings. So Denucci brought
- 18:35Speaker 1: them down to the goal line and he completed a
- 18:37Speaker 1: pass on fourth down to Josh Gordon where he literally
- 18:40Speaker 1: looked like Patrick Malomes. He's like running around and he
- 18:42Speaker 1: throws like an off platform dime to Josh Gordon to convert.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And then they get down to the goal line and
- 18:48Speaker 1: I think they were trying to run some sort of
- 18:50Speaker 1: zone read and he fumbled at like the one yard
- 18:53Speaker 1: line and they lost the game. Was that the game
- 18:56Speaker 1: that they had the they did the on site kick? No,
- 19:00Speaker 1: that was the last game of the weekend. So they
- 19:02Speaker 1: did have a game. Did they have an actual onsite
- 19:04Speaker 1: because there was a game. I don't like the I
- 19:09Speaker 1: think fifteen is too easy. I think it's too high
- 19:12Speaker 1: of a percentage compared to the recovering an onside kick.
- 19:15Speaker 1: So another thought for the XFL, if it did become
- 19:17Speaker 1: a minor league, situation would be like the situation this
- 19:21Speaker 1: year where multiple teams were kind of out of quarterbacks
- 19:24Speaker 1: and there was kind of like a scramble to find
- 19:25Speaker 1: a backup quarterback. I feel like it could potentially be
- 19:28Speaker 1: helpful to have that minor league, so to speak, to
- 19:31Speaker 1: pull from. Yeah, because there were a lot of teams
- 19:34Speaker 1: where it's like it happened with the Giants, obviously, happened
- 19:36Speaker 1: with the four or nine ers, happened with us like
- 19:38Speaker 1: where you're like when you find backup like now. So yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 1: that the problem there is the guys would have been sitting,
- 19:46Speaker 1: not playing since the spring. So maybe if they do
- 19:50Speaker 1: have a true minor league, it plays the same schedule
- 19:53Speaker 1: as the NFL, so you really do have that farm
- 19:56Speaker 1: system you can pull guys up from, like Providence Bruins
- 19:59Speaker 1: or whatever. I just think that. So the tweet that
- 20:01Speaker 1: I sent was about allowing futures I like practice squad
- 20:05Speaker 1: or future contract guys to play in the XFL for
- 20:08Speaker 1: exposure for development, because I think one of the biggest
- 20:11Speaker 1: problems that the NFL has is quarterback development. For guy,
- 20:15Speaker 1: your third string quarterbacks or you know, Bailey Zappie outside
- 20:18Speaker 1: of two games last year, is just sitting on the
- 20:20Speaker 1: bench for months and months and months. And then I
- 20:23Speaker 1: think the bigger problem is really lineman his offensive line play.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You know, guys are just they're just sitting there all
- 20:29Speaker 1: year long. And I know they practice and they're on
- 20:32Speaker 1: the scout team and things like that, but they're not
- 20:34Speaker 1: getting live, competitive in game reps. So they're not developing
- 20:38Speaker 1: depth as well as they used to. And I think
- 20:41Speaker 1: that a league like the XFL, if you loan a
- 20:45Speaker 1: Trey Nixon out to the XFL in the spring, allowed
- 20:48Speaker 1: Trey Nixon to play in the XFL. Now, maybe he
- 20:51Speaker 1: goes off in the XFL and that gives him some
- 20:54Speaker 1: more exposure and maybe he develops some of his skills
- 20:56Speaker 1: there and he comes back and in the summertime a
- 21:00Speaker 1: training camp and now he hits the ground running and
- 21:01Speaker 1: all of a sudden he's a player for the Patriots
- 21:03Speaker 1: or for somebody else in the league. I just think
- 21:06Speaker 1: that there's a void there for the NFL to maybe
- 21:08Speaker 1: have some sort of a developmental league, especially for more
- 21:12Speaker 1: challenging developmental positions like quarterback, like lineman, things like that.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That takes some time and actual in game reps. You
- 21:19Speaker 1: can't just rep in practice against dummies and expect tackles
- 21:23Speaker 1: to all of a sudden develop all these great skills
- 21:25Speaker 1: like so I think there's a way to do. Obviously,
- 21:28Speaker 1: injuries is the big issue. It's not like other sports
- 21:31Speaker 1: where injuries aren't as prevalent. So if a guy gets
- 21:35Speaker 1: if Trainixon gets hurt playing in the XFL and now
- 21:37Speaker 1: he's out for the year, for the Patriots season as well,
- 21:40Speaker 1: then he's got to be compensated for it, and the
- 21:42Speaker 1: Patriots have to somehow make make hole on that as well.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So that's going to be the bigger sticking point with that.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But I just think that that's that's needed, some sort
- 21:51Speaker 1: of developmental league. What's the time frame for the XFL.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I mean, obviously it just started this week. I mean
- 21:57Speaker 1: it goes to May. The Super Bowl is in May,
- 22:01Speaker 1: so I know that in Fred you'll remember this when
- 22:05Speaker 1: like around the time, you know, as we got through
- 22:07Speaker 1: the nineties into the Belichick arriving, the World League was
- 22:12Speaker 1: still going on. NFL Europe it ended up being and
- 22:15Speaker 1: they didn't like You know, they used to have the
- 22:19Speaker 1: teams that were required to send players. Remember that for
- 22:22Speaker 1: a short time. Belichick didn't like it because while they
- 22:27Speaker 1: got a chance to play, they weren't playing in their system.
- 22:30Speaker 1: They thought there was more value being here in the
- 22:33Speaker 1: Patriots offseason program. Maybe the XFL's time frame would be
- 22:38Speaker 1: a little bit more conducive because they're back in time
- 22:41Speaker 1: to really do OTAs. But to Evan's point about injuries,
- 22:44Speaker 1: even if you stay healthy, it's basically playing football for
- 22:47Speaker 1: twelve straight months a lot. That's a lot of football,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you know, Like a Trey Nixon who spent the entire
- 22:52Speaker 1: year on the Patriots practice squad would then go and
- 22:55Speaker 1: play a ten game schedule, I don't know ish for
- 22:59Speaker 1: the x O and then go right into OTAs and
- 23:01Speaker 1: do it all over again. That would be a lot
- 23:04Speaker 1: of wear and tear. Yeah. I think the one suggestion
- 23:06Speaker 1: somebody throwout him my mentions was to maybe have a
- 23:09Speaker 1: snap count or a game count of how many games
- 23:13Speaker 1: those guys could actually play in in the XFL or
- 23:16Speaker 1: something along to combat that. The year Rohan Davy played
- 23:20Speaker 1: over there, he was running around making plays. Was it?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Was it Davy? Was that the quarterback in the world. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: somebody asked him. I think it was Nick Folk, because
- 23:31Speaker 1: Nick Folk played in one of these leagues for a minute,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and he he got as ad a press conference if
- 23:36Speaker 1: they watched Nick Folks taping like the AAF or something,
- 23:39Speaker 1: and he he snorted right at that. He was like
- 23:43Speaker 1: talking about the world quick trivia question and if you
- 23:46Speaker 1: don't get it, you're really not a Patriots fan. Oh,
- 23:48Speaker 1: name the most famous Patriots player to play in the
- 23:51Speaker 1: World League. Adam Nary correct? What team did he play for?
- 23:56Speaker 1: The answer, damn Admirals. I think it was one of
- 23:59Speaker 1: the rain Fire Ran Fire. It might have been answered
- 24:03Speaker 1: in I don't know. I thought it was open to
- 24:05Speaker 1: the German Barcelona Dragons, Scottish Claymores. They were good. But yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: Adam Vinatarry played over there, Barcelona Dragons. Is that right? Yeah?
- 24:15Speaker 1: I gotta look this up here. I'm just gonna name
- 24:18Speaker 1: all the teams that I know. Did you say the
- 24:19Speaker 1: answerdam Admiral? I did? Is that right? You're right? Wow?
- 24:23Speaker 1: There you go. I did not know that. Yeah, good,
- 24:27Speaker 1: good job? All right? Five five past five hundred is
- 24:31Speaker 1: a stick on hot line, web radio at Patriots dot
- 24:33Speaker 1: com is email address. How's the quarterback situation going in
- 24:37Speaker 1: the NFL? I know that's the quarterback situation. I know.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I know Aaron Rodgers is gonna be great, wants to
- 24:43Speaker 1: do um. You know, Jimmy's still out there. Derek Carr
- 24:46Speaker 1: is still out there, like what what? Well he hasn't
- 24:50Speaker 1: started yet. Well it has for Derek Carr. Derek Carr
- 24:52Speaker 1: is available. Yes, I'm kind of like intrigued, only because
- 24:55Speaker 1: we saw like a huge shuffle situation last offseason and
- 24:59Speaker 1: then Russell Wilson and that ended up being a bust.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So I'm wondering if, like, you know, Derek Carr or
- 25:04Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers or whoever is going to go to a
- 25:06Speaker 1: new team and you think like, oh, this team is
- 25:08Speaker 1: gonna be so good and then you never know. Yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 1: like Derek Carr probably, I could imagine though, if Aaron
- 25:15Speaker 1: Rodgers goes to the Raiders, they're gonna be good. But
- 25:19Speaker 1: if it goes to the Jets, I think they're gonna
- 25:21Speaker 1: be a lot better too. I think I think Aaron
- 25:23Speaker 1: Rodgers is a step above Russell Wilson at this even
- 25:27Speaker 1: at this point in his career, I really do so
- 25:29Speaker 1: Green Pay saying they're done with him, right, So I
- 25:30Speaker 1: mean this seems like that way. Yeah. Yeah, I think
- 25:36Speaker 1: Derek Carr met with the Jets over the weekend. He
- 25:38Speaker 1: had a whole weekend with them, Robert Sala, the ownership, everything,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and everybody said it went really well. You know, everybody
- 25:44Speaker 1: always plays nice that when they say the video was
- 25:47Speaker 1: Salo like pulling up there. There's actually a picture of
- 25:50Speaker 1: them eating at a restaurant that some fan took that.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You know that the table is Sala and Derek Carr,
- 25:56Speaker 1: Derek Carr's wife, you know, the whole gang. I think
- 25:59Speaker 1: that the Jets, it definitely sounds like Aaron Rodgers is
- 26:02Speaker 1: their first choice. There's also been some rumors out there
- 26:05Speaker 1: that they would make a run out Lamar Jackson if
- 26:07Speaker 1: he became available, But I feel like they are going
- 26:09Speaker 1: to end up with Derek Carr. But it's kind of
- 26:12Speaker 1: a weird thing because Derek Carr wants to make a
- 26:15Speaker 1: decision before free agency probably starts if he can, so
- 26:18Speaker 1: that he's the top dog, and then they might not
- 26:21Speaker 1: want to make that decision that quickly depending on who
- 26:24Speaker 1: else comes available. So so what is it Derek Carr
- 26:28Speaker 1: was just not vibing with Josh. Was he just having
- 26:32Speaker 1: a bad year? Like what actually unfolded there? I don't know,
- 26:35Speaker 1: but I do think that they just don't think he's
- 26:37Speaker 1: that good. Okay, Yeah, I think, you know, at some
- 26:41Speaker 1: point in the season, they just said we can do better.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And it's interesting because, like, obviously they're his teammates and
- 26:48Speaker 1: so they're gonna have his back, but it felt like
- 26:51Speaker 1: they believed in him, I guess, and that's why I
- 26:53Speaker 1: was like, is it a coaching thing? Is it? I
- 26:56Speaker 1: don't know, it's just it's interesting. Yeah, I do wonder
- 26:58Speaker 1: what they're gonna do. I mean, I think, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: we talk about being in this position where you have
- 27:02Speaker 1: a serviceable quarterback. I feel like Derek Carr is serviceable,
- 27:06Speaker 1: but nobody's really excited about him. But it's just hard
- 27:08Speaker 1: to jump when you have a Derek Carr, and I
- 27:10Speaker 1: feel like this could be where the Patriots are at
- 27:12Speaker 1: in a couple of years. Like you have a guy
- 27:13Speaker 1: who's okay, I mean, you know, he's able to at
- 27:16Speaker 1: least play in the pros, but well, let's put it
- 27:18Speaker 1: this way, he got benched. So at some point Josh
- 27:22Speaker 1: McDaniel said, I've had it with you, and there was
- 27:24Speaker 1: no there was no like he might be better in
- 27:26Speaker 1: year two with the Josh McDaniels system that you know
- 27:28Speaker 1: is kind of known to be complicated. You know, there
- 27:30Speaker 1: was none of that. It was just they they instantly
- 27:32Speaker 1: within the season moved on. I mean, I give him
- 27:35Speaker 1: credit for doing it. I just I'm curious where it's
- 27:37Speaker 1: going to end up and are you going to end
- 27:39Speaker 1: up being a net positive or are they gonna have
- 27:41Speaker 1: to I mean, I think gonna be able to get
- 27:43Speaker 1: somebody in the draft. Is this I mean, are they
- 27:44Speaker 1: kind of free agent or bust? I also thought it
- 27:47Speaker 1: was interesting how you compare him to Mac where like
- 27:49Speaker 1: the Patriots fans boo Mac like they boo him at
- 27:52Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl when Derek Carr was announced. There was
- 27:56Speaker 1: a huge saw that and so it was just like, okay,
- 28:00Speaker 1: like the teammates still supported him, all of Las Vegas
- 28:04Speaker 1: is still like cheering for him. I just thought it
- 28:06Speaker 1: was very interesting. That's how I'm like what happened there. Yeah,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I just don't think he I don't think he can play.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I think everybody's coming to the realization. I don't think
- 28:14Speaker 1: he was a good fit with Josh. I think Josh
- 28:16Speaker 1: doesn't like quarterbacks in general. I don't think that's happened
- 28:19Speaker 1: a lot. Wow, that's happened a lot to him. That's
- 28:20Speaker 1: the first thing he did with Jay Cutler too, and
- 28:23Speaker 1: this one I think he went out. I don't think
- 28:24Speaker 1: he wanted card from the start. I think he bent
- 28:27Speaker 1: over Backwitch to be on board and give him that
- 28:29Speaker 1: extension because he didn't want to repeat of what happened. Yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 1: but I don't think this is his kind of guy.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I think he can play. I don't think he played
- 28:35Speaker 1: well this year. I think Josh was right this year.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I think that some of the reporting out in Vegas
- 28:42Speaker 1: is that he was playing a lot out of structure
- 28:45Speaker 1: of the system and he wasn't. You know. McDaniels, I
- 28:47Speaker 1: think is one of these guys that does want somebody's
- 28:49Speaker 1: just going to press the buttons on the controller, right,
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, this is the read, this is the coverage,
- 28:54Speaker 1: this is the throw you're supposed to make. And I
- 28:56Speaker 1: guess Derek Carr was was doing his own thing a
- 28:58Speaker 1: little bit at times. Unless you're like Patrick Mahomes and
- 29:02Speaker 1: you're doing your own thing and it's going for sixty
- 29:04Speaker 1: yard bombs like then it's you know, not as as
- 29:07Speaker 1: intriguing when it's somebody like Derek Carr. But to back
- 29:09Speaker 1: to your original point, it's going to be another I think,
- 29:13Speaker 1: um incredibly entertaining off season of quarterback movement. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 1: because I think it's you know, it's it's Rogers, it's
- 29:19Speaker 1: car it's Garoppolo. But there are other guys that, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 1: like what happens with Daniel Jones, what happens with Lamar Jackson,
- 29:26Speaker 1: Like there are guys that I think people assume will
- 29:29Speaker 1: be back with their teams, but there's no guarantee. Daniel
- 29:32Speaker 1: Jones changing his agency earlier this week, Um, I think
- 29:36Speaker 1: is an interesting thing to keep an eye on. I
- 29:38Speaker 1: think that's great for the league. The Ravens are in
- 29:40Speaker 1: a tough spot, you know, because Lamar Jackson will want,
- 29:44Speaker 1: wants and deserves top quarterback pay. But I think the
- 29:49Speaker 1: Ravens are like, do we want to like commit to
- 29:52Speaker 1: this guy long term? You know, when we know they're
- 29:55Speaker 1: absolutely nuts if they don't, well, well nuts. I was
- 29:58Speaker 1: thinking about this. What if the Ravens said to Lamar, listen,
- 30:03Speaker 1: we're gonna give you a one year deal fifty million
- 30:05Speaker 1: dollars guaranteed. No, but it's a one year deal and
- 30:09Speaker 1: we'll keep doing that. We'll just keep doing that. He
- 30:11Speaker 1: would say a second, Why because he's gonna get two
- 30:14Speaker 1: hundred and fifty million guaranteed. I mean what I mean
- 30:16Speaker 1: they could just franchise him, and like that's what's what's
- 30:19Speaker 1: the difference? Well, like he wants to get long term
- 30:22Speaker 1: two hundred plus million guarantees. Do you think he's gonna
- 30:25Speaker 1: get that? Yes, so some team is going to say
- 30:28Speaker 1: the Jets would give him a blank check tomorrow. He
- 30:31Speaker 1: said that they come quarterback. I mean, I think the
- 30:33Speaker 1: Saints would like. I think maybe Tampa would like. I
- 30:36Speaker 1: think there's a lot of teams Carol lineup. So there's
- 30:38Speaker 1: a lot of teams that are like starving for quarter
- 30:41Speaker 1: So then why hasn't the team that knows him best
- 30:44Speaker 1: already done it? They're trying? And what do we read
- 30:48Speaker 1: into the offensive coordinator change too? I mean, what is
- 30:51Speaker 1: that that was for him to? You know, like why
- 30:53Speaker 1: I don't know for sure, And it seems like Greg
- 30:55Speaker 1: Roman was so specifically designed for that. What Why why
- 30:57Speaker 1: are we moving on? Just why are they tacking? That's
- 30:59Speaker 1: just my question of what is the LSU guy you know,
- 31:02Speaker 1: gonna bring differently, Like, well, how is he going to approach? Like, yeah,
- 31:06Speaker 1: they're passing Lamar, like the tweetment not that Lamar was
- 31:10Speaker 1: like involved in the interview process, So I agree with
- 31:14Speaker 1: Paul that it was for him, Like could you imagine like, yeah,
- 31:17Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not there. I can't tell you that.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Could you imagine like Mac being involved in the interview process? No,
- 31:23Speaker 1: well not in not now, but like if he had
- 31:25Speaker 1: achieved what Lamar has, Yeah, let's see if he has
- 31:28Speaker 1: two good years and then he's going into his fifth
- 31:30Speaker 1: year and all that stuff, Yeah, I could if I'm
- 31:32Speaker 1: a Patriots fan, though, I'm looking really keep an eye
- 31:36Speaker 1: on Daniel Jones's contract, what he gets, and what his
- 31:39Speaker 1: situation is, because that's one that feels a lot like
- 31:43Speaker 1: what the Patriots are going to have to offer mac
- 31:45Speaker 1: Jones in a couple of years. And if he gets
- 31:47Speaker 1: the money that some of the rumors are suggesting he
- 31:49Speaker 1: might get from the Giants or on the open market,
- 31:52Speaker 1: like north of forty million a year for a Daniel Joe.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I don't think he'll get that, but whatever he gets,
- 31:58Speaker 1: to you a point, Evan mac Jones isn't going to
- 32:01Speaker 1: get less than that two years. That's the that's the
- 32:03Speaker 1: floor for mac Jones unless he the bottom completely comes
- 32:06Speaker 1: out of Mac next year. But I will say Daniel
- 32:08Speaker 1: Jones did play better this year, Oh did Yeah? Yeah,
- 32:10Speaker 1: but his this past year was comparable to Max's rookie
- 32:14Speaker 1: season statistically personally same. I don't think Daniel Jones is good,
- 32:19Speaker 1: but I think he had a better year this year. Yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 1: I mean he could run and Matt can't, right, But
- 32:27Speaker 1: I think Evan's right on, like whatever he gets in
- 32:31Speaker 1: two years, when you're having to pay mac Jones, he's
- 32:35Speaker 1: not going to get less than that. That's that's I mean,
- 32:38Speaker 1: Brian Dable, uh, how much personnel control does he have
- 32:42Speaker 1: at New Yorker? Is that? Well? Joe shown is the
- 32:46Speaker 1: They were in Buffalo together, so I'm sure that they
- 32:49Speaker 1: have a pretty good vision that But I think that's
- 32:52Speaker 1: a tough decision too. You know, there's gotta be a bridge,
- 32:56Speaker 1: there's gotta be a bridge contract for him that is
- 32:59Speaker 1: you know, agreeable. I mean, I'm not saying I'm not
- 33:01Speaker 1: suggesting you're gonna get him for twenty million, but like
- 33:04Speaker 1: if Evans saying, you know, he's holding out for over
- 33:07Speaker 1: forty million. Sorry, Dan, I gotta let you go like
- 33:09Speaker 1: you're not a four. You're not Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I can't give you a forty ninion. But if that,
- 33:14Speaker 1: but I can't give you thirty. Do the Giants all
- 33:17Speaker 1: of a sudden, are they in the running for Aaron
- 33:20Speaker 1: Rodgers and Lamar Jackson and Jimmy Garoppolo. That's what I'm saying, Like,
- 33:24Speaker 1: add Lar Jackson and Daniel Jones to the mix of
- 33:26Speaker 1: the guys that we are pretty sure are gonna be
- 33:28Speaker 1: I mean, we know Garoppolo and car are gonna be
- 33:31Speaker 1: on different teams, right, we think Aaron Rodgers is going
- 33:34Speaker 1: to be on a different team. You know, take it
- 33:37Speaker 1: even a step further, where does Baker Mayfield go? Yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 1: he's a guy who started in the league. Does someone
- 33:42Speaker 1: make a run at him? Yep? You know, like Evan
- 33:45Speaker 1: was sort of like joking around about the Jets, that's
- 33:47Speaker 1: where they'll end up with the Like every other quarterback
- 33:50Speaker 1: will pick somebody else and they're gonna convince themselves Baker Mayfield.
- 33:54Speaker 1: The Jets are totally Derek Carr. Like they're gonna they're
- 33:57Speaker 1: gonna try to swing bigger and they'll get left the
- 34:00Speaker 1: table with Derek Carr. But the Raiders are they pick
- 34:03Speaker 1: seventh overall in this draft. And the interesting thing I
- 34:07Speaker 1: find with that is that McDaniels, how much time does
- 34:10Speaker 1: he really have to work? Because the two guys that
- 34:13Speaker 1: are gonna be left are gonna be Will Levis and
- 34:15Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, who are both total projects. So if you're ownership,
- 34:20Speaker 1: if you're Josh McDaniels, and Dave's Eagler, you have to
- 34:22Speaker 1: go to ownership and say, if we take one of
- 34:24Speaker 1: these quarterbacks, work good with it from a football perspective,
- 34:27Speaker 1: but this is going to take two or three years.
- 34:29Speaker 1: And if you're gonna can as next offseason because we
- 34:31Speaker 1: you know, he didn't work out immediately as a rookie,
- 34:34Speaker 1: then we go the veteran route. If you're them, Well,
- 34:38Speaker 1: when when Lamar was in the draft, wasn't there stories
- 34:42Speaker 1: that somebody in the Patriots would really like Lamar Jacks?
- 34:46Speaker 1: McDaniel Josh right, right, So that's what I'm so, is
- 34:49Speaker 1: he in play for the Raiders? You know, if I
- 34:52Speaker 1: think Devin hit it ten minutes ago, I think there's
- 34:55Speaker 1: a number of teams that will be in play for
- 34:57Speaker 1: him if if he's really available, I guess is they'll
- 35:00Speaker 1: franchise him and look to trade him, which makes it.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I mean, he's different. He's an upgraded quarterback for twenty
- 35:05Speaker 1: five teams. Like it's say that's it. Don't say that
- 35:08Speaker 1: to him, Mike, Mike, Mike's not buying. Yeah, Mike doesn't
- 35:12Speaker 1: like production like playoff wins. So it's it's gonna be.
- 35:16Speaker 1: It's interesting. And that's what March fifteenth is when officially
- 35:20Speaker 1: the thirteenth is the legal tampering periods. That's the real start.
- 35:24Speaker 1: And today is the tag you can the first day
- 35:28Speaker 1: that you can use the tag tags. I should say,
- 35:31Speaker 1: um so it's all gonna start now. It's you know,
- 35:35Speaker 1: the pieces are gonna fall into place. Um But, like,
- 35:38Speaker 1: I don't know how you guys feel. I just think
- 35:41Speaker 1: it's been about ten years now. Like the high level
- 35:45Speaker 1: quarterback movement I think is awesome. You know, like in baseball,
- 35:49Speaker 1: you know, you get like Justin Verlanders, the best pitcher
- 35:51Speaker 1: in the league. He wins, wins the cy Young and
- 35:53Speaker 1: he can he can switch teams. Jacob deGrom, he can
- 35:56Speaker 1: switch teams. I think that's really you know, an interesting
- 35:59Speaker 1: part or most of the other sports that never happened
- 36:02Speaker 1: in football where the best players with changing teams in time. Yeah,
- 36:05Speaker 1: now it does. Yeah, you know, so well, if you're
- 36:09Speaker 1: one of those teams that doesn't have a quarterback and
- 36:11Speaker 1: can't figure out in the draft, at least there's another
- 36:15Speaker 1: avenue for you. Yeah, I think. You know, quarterbacks have
- 36:18Speaker 1: always changed. You know, almost every great quarterback didn't end
- 36:21Speaker 1: up on the team they started. But now I think
- 36:24Speaker 1: because of the size of these contracts, teams are you know,
- 36:28Speaker 1: skittish and so now in their prime or at least
- 36:32Speaker 1: you know, near the top of their game, they're they're
- 36:34Speaker 1: they're changing. So I think that's good for the league.
- 36:37Speaker 1: It makes you know, it's not good for the fan
- 36:41Speaker 1: who you know is the Brady fan and has the
- 36:44Speaker 1: number twelve and the shrine in their living room and
- 36:46Speaker 1: now all of a sudden he's not here anymore like me.
- 36:49Speaker 1: But you know, um, you know, it's it's good overall.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Let's league. You know, a month orm now, what does
- 36:54Speaker 1: the power structure in the league look like. I mean,
- 36:56Speaker 1: there's gonna be changes, you know, there's gonna be different
- 36:58Speaker 1: teams that you're not even really thinking right now that
- 37:00Speaker 1: that'll suddenly have buzz the baron Rodgers goes to the AFC,
- 37:05Speaker 1: that changes the landscape for a team, you know, like
- 37:08Speaker 1: because he's not going to go to a team that's
- 37:10Speaker 1: you know, above the Patriots in the playoff structure, He's
- 37:13Speaker 1: going to go to one that's behind him. Yeah, and remember,
- 37:16Speaker 1: like more than likely remember last year in that AFC West,
- 37:19Speaker 1: it was an arms race. I mean, there was a
- 37:22Speaker 1: lot of spending going on in the AFC West, and
- 37:25Speaker 1: some of it worked and some of it didn't. Right,
- 37:27Speaker 1: And now you've still won the division and won the
- 37:28Speaker 1: Super Bowl, right right, the chief the Chiefs still ended
- 37:32Speaker 1: up And that's why, like we were joking around, like
- 37:34Speaker 1: I don't know if you heard any of the toolbag
- 37:36Speaker 1: Travis Kelsey at the parade last week, Fred, if you
- 37:39Speaker 1: caught any of that, Like he he did his best
- 37:42Speaker 1: imitation to Rodney and Willie, you know, and everybody was
- 37:47Speaker 1: sort of really taken aback by that. But while I
- 37:50Speaker 1: thought he was really ridiculously moronic the way he went
- 37:54Speaker 1: about his business, and there was some truth to the
- 37:57Speaker 1: fact that a lot of people wrote kids a city,
- 37:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, last spring, Um, I don't know how
- 38:02Speaker 1: many people said that there's no way they can make
- 38:04Speaker 1: the playoffs. I didn't hear a lot of that, but
- 38:06Speaker 1: I did hear a lot of people say they're not
- 38:07Speaker 1: going to win the division this year. A lot of people, yeah, me, Well,
- 38:11Speaker 1: but you've been saying that for five years. So for you,
- 38:13Speaker 1: that's I say it every year you lost Tyreek Hill.
- 38:16Speaker 1: I mean, the team's all made upgrades and on paper
- 38:19Speaker 1: it looked like it it's gonna be let's face it,
- 38:20Speaker 1: they didn't. They started out a little slow and then
- 38:23Speaker 1: you know, they just changed gears and I mean that
- 38:28Speaker 1: was I mean, the end of it was. My big
- 38:29Speaker 1: takeaway in the Super Bowl was just that Patrick Mahomes
- 38:32Speaker 1: is the best quarterback in the league right now. That's
- 38:35Speaker 1: all there is to it, without a doubt, you know.
- 38:37Speaker 1: All right? Five five past five hundred is the eighth
- 38:39Speaker 1: ticket houtline, web radio at Patriots dot COM's email address.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It's all on the table. So let's start with Patty
- 38:46Speaker 1: and agawam. What's up, Patty? Hey, everyone's going on today?
- 38:52Speaker 1: The Chiefs are what the Patriot were um in the
- 38:55Speaker 1: twenty year run. You saw, you saw that happened to
- 38:58Speaker 1: the last off season. But I had a question of
- 39:01Speaker 1: regarding our top priorities the soft season, because I see
- 39:06Speaker 1: a lot of people I see a lot of like
- 39:08Speaker 1: mock drafts, cornerback the Patriots, and unless we shore up
- 39:13Speaker 1: the offensive tackle situation and free agency, I just don't
- 39:17Speaker 1: see him going a cornerback because there's there's not that
- 39:21Speaker 1: soft gardner Darrell Reeves in this draft, I don't think.
- 39:25Speaker 1: And I wanted to just get from the roundtable, what
- 39:28Speaker 1: how you guys would prioritize the top three needs. For me,
- 39:31Speaker 1: it's ot um playmaking, wide receiver and then a holler
- 39:37Speaker 1: bigger cornerback. Well yeah, that makes sense. But you know
- 39:41Speaker 1: the Patriots if if the cornerbacks there that they love
- 39:45Speaker 1: and the tackle they loved was gone, they'll take a cornerback.
- 39:49Speaker 1: They will. But I agree, I think it's ot it's
- 39:53Speaker 1: offensive tackle, it's wide receiver, and then after that it's
- 39:58Speaker 1: it's you know, best player available. I'm glad he brought
- 40:01Speaker 1: this up because this is something and as we get
- 40:02Speaker 1: into mock drafts, I've been surprised and I totally I'm
- 40:06Speaker 1: on board with draft in one of those top three tackles,
- 40:08Speaker 1: Like it's fine, is that really something the Patriots need?
- 40:12Speaker 1: Like like like, if we get Peter Skronski, he's the starting
- 40:16Speaker 1: left tackle week one, how much? How much does that
- 40:19Speaker 1: really move the needle for the Is that really going
- 40:20Speaker 1: to move the needle in this offense? Is that? Is that?
- 40:22Speaker 1: I mean? And I get that you need to tackle
- 40:24Speaker 1: and talk made the comparison before about them being wheels,
- 40:28Speaker 1: you gotta you gotta put tires on the car, but
- 40:31Speaker 1: just say you bring back Trump Brown and Connor McDermott.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Those are your guys next year with the new coaching
- 40:36Speaker 1: staff arrangement? Is that I mean? Is that already better?
- 40:39Speaker 1: Like I just people are coming at me like we
- 40:41Speaker 1: need to get the tackles fixed. And it's just a
- 40:43Speaker 1: little surprising to me because usually I'm just used to
- 40:45Speaker 1: hearing you need weapons and you need pass for no no.
- 40:49Speaker 1: And I want to bring this up, Paul, because I
- 40:51Speaker 1: know you. You you're the one who doesn't really value
- 40:53Speaker 1: offensive all that much, and you don't really love tramp
- 40:56Speaker 1: Brown all that much. So how do you feel not
- 40:58Speaker 1: loving him would be already kind way of saying what
- 41:01Speaker 1: I think of Trent? So do you think that let's
- 41:03Speaker 1: just say you take a weapon in the first round
- 41:06Speaker 1: and you bring back those two guys, is that better
- 41:07Speaker 1: than if you get scronted. You're not. You're not better
- 41:11Speaker 1: with McDermott and Brown, like you're going to be just
- 41:13Speaker 1: as bad as you were a last year, but better coaching.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I'm just saying coaching is is a little bit different.
- 41:17Speaker 1: That's one part of it that's different. You have a
- 41:19Speaker 1: professional offensive line coach coming in. You have a professional
- 41:22Speaker 1: offensive coordinator who knows what he wants. We'll see. That
- 41:24Speaker 1: remains to be seen. I didn't like I didn't like
- 41:27Speaker 1: his track record in Pittsburgh, but we'll see. But how
- 41:29Speaker 1: much of a priority would you put as someone who
- 41:30Speaker 1: doesn't put a lot of priority on offensive line? And
- 41:32Speaker 1: I get coming at me, we need offensive tackles like that'
- 41:35Speaker 1: and I people coming at you with suggestions. I'm not mad.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I didn't mean no, no, I just don't at me.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I think it's really it's just interesting to me because
- 41:45Speaker 1: for the longest time, and we've been doing mocked drafts
- 41:47Speaker 1: and big boards and all that stuff for a long time,
- 41:48Speaker 1: and it's hard to ever get past. They need a
- 41:50Speaker 1: weapon and they need a pass rusher. And I'm just
- 41:52Speaker 1: surprised now with how much everyone's like, we really need
- 41:55Speaker 1: a tackle, and I'm like, I think they do do
- 41:57Speaker 1: I think they really do need a tackle. But I
- 41:59Speaker 1: am not going to be upset at all if it's
- 42:00Speaker 1: a corner, because I think they really need a corner,
- 42:04Speaker 1: and I certainly wouldn't be upset anytime you want to
- 42:07Speaker 1: get a shiny new toy to play with. I mean,
- 42:09Speaker 1: if you get an elite wide receiver or a playmaking
- 42:12Speaker 1: type player, I have a hard time being upset at
- 42:16Speaker 1: that too. I mean, I think one of the benefits
- 42:20Speaker 1: there aren't a lot of benefits from being an eight
- 42:22Speaker 1: and nine team is that you have a lot of
- 42:24Speaker 1: directions that you can go, so you're not really beholden
- 42:27Speaker 1: to what happens in front of you. You You know, you're
- 42:30Speaker 1: not held to the board. You can go in a
- 42:32Speaker 1: number of different directions. And I think get a player
- 42:35Speaker 1: that should be able to immediately help your team, Like
- 42:38Speaker 1: even if it's Scarnsky, as you said, I think that
- 42:40Speaker 1: would help them. Like, I think that's better than the alternative.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I think from a GM's perspective, I think taking a
- 42:49Speaker 1: blue ship tackle high in the draft is safer than
- 42:55Speaker 1: taking you know, the best wide receiver. Why because it
- 43:00Speaker 1: just they pan out more often they do they do
- 43:02Speaker 1: you have data for that? Yeah? Yeah, because I would
- 43:05Speaker 1: tell you that it's just perception. Isaiah winn is not
- 43:08Speaker 1: considered nikkil Harry, but he wasn't saying the draft they
- 43:11Speaker 1: were in the same area, both first round picks in
- 43:14Speaker 1: the late twenties, early thirties or whatever. But now we're
- 43:17Speaker 1: picking at fourteen. I'm talking about like the Blue Chippers,
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know. But I'm just saying I think that you
- 43:22Speaker 1: you think that way because lineman on critiquedis are in
- 43:27Speaker 1: the last couple of years, but notoriously speaking, in the
- 43:30Speaker 1: history of the draft. Yeah, I think. I think there's
- 43:34Speaker 1: of the lineman being on your team for ten years
- 43:36Speaker 1: and being a foundational player on your team than the
- 43:38Speaker 1: wide receiver. I would rather see some research on that.
- 43:42Speaker 1: I would rather get a shiny toy in the first
- 43:45Speaker 1: round or a corner um simply because I felt like
- 43:49Speaker 1: the air we're not out of the room. When they
- 43:50Speaker 1: picked coal Strange in the first round last year, like
- 43:52Speaker 1: that was just like underwhelming one because we have absolutely
- 43:56Speaker 1: no we didn't know who coal Strange was. I mean,
- 43:57Speaker 1: we did, Booby didn't. We also didn't expect him to
- 43:59Speaker 1: go that so which is very underwhelming. Yeah, And two,
- 44:02Speaker 1: I think that you could get a seasoned young tackle
- 44:06Speaker 1: and free agency, like, go get Mike mcglinchy. And I'm
- 44:08Speaker 1: not just saying that because he went to Notre Dame,
- 44:11Speaker 1: but go get someone like Mike McGlinchey and like that
- 44:13Speaker 1: could help mac Jones, Like he needs a good offensive line, right,
- 44:17Speaker 1: And I think you can get one a free agency
- 44:19Speaker 1: and then get a shiny new toy in So this
- 44:21Speaker 1: is it's tough because it's always tough to have these
- 44:24Speaker 1: conversations before free agency because if they go and handle
- 44:26Speaker 1: Orlando Brown a bag, then we're forget what's talking about
- 44:30Speaker 1: Scronsky right where we're totally not talking about it. I
- 44:33Speaker 1: think the issue that I have is everybody wants this
- 44:36Speaker 1: shiny new toy at wide receiver in the first round.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I do too, Who is it? Because I look at
- 44:43Speaker 1: all these wide receivers in this draft class. All of
- 44:46Speaker 1: them don't don't love any of them, to be honest
- 44:49Speaker 1: with you, I think all of them have flaws, especially
- 44:52Speaker 1: at fourteen now, and I we can get into the
- 44:55Speaker 1: conversation of oh, well, maybe they trade down ten spots
- 44:59Speaker 1: and they take the guy they and they accumulate assets
- 45:01Speaker 1: and yeah, like I guess, but at fourteen, I think
- 45:05Speaker 1: that you're getting into a dangerous area where we're a
- 45:09Speaker 1: little early on most of the receivers that are in
- 45:11Speaker 1: this draft, right, And that's that's the other part of
- 45:14Speaker 1: it is like who are the actual players? Right? Like
- 45:16Speaker 1: I love so I had it exactly had when we
- 45:19Speaker 1: published that article after the season. I had it exactly
- 45:22Speaker 1: how Patty had it. Tackle receiver corner those are one, two,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and three. But wide receiver is in this draft? I mean,
- 45:33Speaker 1: I like Jordan Addison, but he's got flaws, Like he's
- 45:37Speaker 1: not a perfect prospect. This is not Davante Smith. Is
- 45:40Speaker 1: that the usc K? Yeah? I like Zay Flowersby's five nine?
- 45:43Speaker 1: Are you gonna draft a five foot nine receiver at fourteenth? Overall? Right,
- 45:47Speaker 1: Quentin Johnston is the type of guy that they cannot
- 45:50Speaker 1: hit on right, six foot four, big outside wide receiver.
- 45:53Speaker 1: It's Chad Jackson, it's nikkil Harry, Like, they can't. They
- 45:56Speaker 1: don't make those guys work. So who's their guy in
- 45:59Speaker 1: this draft? At spot is a tough one, Whereas at tackle,
- 46:03Speaker 1: there's a bunch of options that I think are great
- 46:05Speaker 1: options for them. At that spot that all would make
- 46:08Speaker 1: sense in their system in there and there the whole thing.
- 46:11Speaker 1: So it's just a cleaner projection for me to take
- 46:13Speaker 1: one of the tackles, take a tackle, but it'll be
- 46:15Speaker 1: from like Middle Tennessee. And that's where I'm with you,
- 46:17Speaker 1: Just not what Evan just talked about, like at the
- 46:22Speaker 1: very start of that, And this is where I'm with you.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Everybody wants to tell you what they need to do this.
- 46:27Speaker 1: They need to like there's two months worth of stuff
- 46:30Speaker 1: that hasn't happened yet that we don't know what it's
- 46:32Speaker 1: going to be. And to Evan's point, if they if
- 46:35Speaker 1: they signed Orlando Brown and you lock him in as
- 46:40Speaker 1: as you left tackle, we're not necessarily interested in the
- 46:43Speaker 1: tackle at fourteen, right, I wouldn't rule out. I mean,
- 46:47Speaker 1: and I hear everything Evan saying. I just like, like
- 46:49Speaker 1: you you wait overdrafted Cold Strange at a guard position
- 46:53Speaker 1: last year, Like are we gonna we're gonna overdraft Jordan
- 46:55Speaker 1: Addison by ten spots? Like that? That's too much. You
- 46:58Speaker 1: instantly get a guy who's explosive interior the field. Is
- 47:03Speaker 1: he really good? That's why I'm like that. That's to me.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I don't really care where. I mean, he's good. I
- 47:08Speaker 1: don't know four streets was drafted four rounds ahead of
- 47:10Speaker 1: where he's supposed to go, not four spots ahead of
- 47:12Speaker 1: where you're supposed to go. Like if Jordan Addison is
- 47:15Speaker 1: a really good player and he goes fourteen instead of
- 47:18Speaker 1: twenty four or whatever, I don't care now if I
- 47:22Speaker 1: could have gotten that guy in the third round, Not
- 47:24Speaker 1: like that's part of it. He's he's a he's a
- 47:27Speaker 1: top thirty two talent in the draft. And some people
- 47:30Speaker 1: are saying Zay Flowers now, and you know what I
- 47:32Speaker 1: feel about the little slot guys. But I saw someone
- 47:35Speaker 1: say they'd be surprised if he gets out of the
- 47:37Speaker 1: top fifteen, right, But I think the problem and I
- 47:40Speaker 1: don't want to take up a ton of time of
- 47:41Speaker 1: going over all the scouting reports on all these guys.
- 47:43Speaker 1: But Jordan Addison really really struggles playing through contact, any
- 47:48Speaker 1: sort of contact, and that's that's an issue for him.
- 47:51Speaker 1: He's not a true outside receiver. He's more of like
- 47:53Speaker 1: a z or a slot. Zay Flowers is more of
- 47:56Speaker 1: a slot Jackson Smith and Jigbuzz like Jacobe Myers, but
- 47:59Speaker 1: like name right, like so he's got some speed in explosiveness.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Concerns that people have if they go to the combine
- 48:06Speaker 1: and Jordan Addison runs a four to three five or
- 48:09Speaker 1: four four flat, like, I'll change my mind maybe a
- 48:12Speaker 1: little bit on his ability to play on the outside.
- 48:14Speaker 1: But you watch him on film and he tries to
- 48:17Speaker 1: get vertical on the outside and guys are all over
- 48:19Speaker 1: him like that. He can't separate over the top, and
- 48:21Speaker 1: I just I don't know if there's a complete receiver
- 48:23Speaker 1: at fourteen, and at fourteen I like to know the
- 48:26Speaker 1: second third round for that reason. If I'm if I'm
- 48:31Speaker 1: picking at fourteen and I'm picking a wide receiver, that
- 48:33Speaker 1: guy better be a complete animal, like he better be
- 48:36Speaker 1: able to do everything they like, inside, outside, press coverage,
- 48:40Speaker 1: like all of it. And I don't know if that
- 48:41Speaker 1: guy exists in this drive. I'm gonna make a draft
- 48:44Speaker 1: prediction right now. Bottom of the first round there's gonna
- 48:47Speaker 1: be a big run and wide receivers because people are
- 48:49Speaker 1: gonna get antsy, they're not gonna want to wait, and
- 48:51Speaker 1: you're gonna see them go into bottle. I think that's
- 48:54Speaker 1: exactly this. This draft from a wide receiver perspective reminds
- 48:57Speaker 1: me so much of the twenty nineteen draft of in
- 49:00Speaker 1: terms of how guys are going to come off the board.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Hollywood Brown was the first receiver drafted in twenty nineteen,
- 49:05Speaker 1: I think twenty fifth overall, the first receiver at twenty five,
- 49:08Speaker 1: and then Nikkill obviously at thirty two, and then Debo
- 49:11Speaker 1: and McLaurin and DK and all the rest of him
- 49:13Speaker 1: came off on Day two. That's exactly how I think
- 49:16Speaker 1: this draft is going to go. I think a guy
- 49:17Speaker 1: like Zay Flowers if he runs a four to three.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Hollywood went mid twenties, Brandon Cooks went mid twenties. Like
- 49:24Speaker 1: that's the type of guy that he is, so he'd
- 49:25Speaker 1: probably go somewhere in the twenties. Now. I was listening
- 49:28Speaker 1: to you guys last week while on the beach, and
- 49:31Speaker 1: would you say that Deebo Samuel could become available even
- 49:34Speaker 1: despite no, that was just some nonsense from there was
- 49:39Speaker 1: a radio I love I love me some Deebo Samuel.
- 49:42Speaker 1: I think he's one of the best football players in
- 49:44Speaker 1: the NFL. So don't look at his don't look at
- 49:46Speaker 1: his his off field transgressions. For a second. Look up
- 49:50Speaker 1: Keshawn Boutet from LSU. Okay, I call him Mini Debo.
- 49:54Speaker 1: He's he's got that that same body type. He's like
- 49:58Speaker 1: he's like a running back with the football in his hand. Okay, yeah,
- 50:00Speaker 1: he's very very similar. He ended the season on a
- 50:04Speaker 1: sour note at LSU, and I'll I don't like him.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I'll let you will say that. And I know everything
- 50:09Speaker 1: that Evan said is right that he was. He came
- 50:12Speaker 1: into last season as like the next big thing, and
- 50:14Speaker 1: I watched LSU several times. He never am and he
- 50:19Speaker 1: never stood out. He never stood out. So okay, what
- 50:23Speaker 1: about I'm not part of what you Have you seen
- 50:27Speaker 1: any of those? So I did some. I did the
- 50:29Speaker 1: tight ends yesterday. The top consensus, guys, Michael Mayer is
- 50:34Speaker 1: t J. Hawkinson. This is all she wants to hear.
- 50:36Speaker 1: This is great. He's t J Hawkinson. He's well rounded. Uh,
- 50:42Speaker 1: he can do everything. But I don't know if he's
- 50:46Speaker 1: exceptional at one thing. Like I He's not a great
- 50:50Speaker 1: athlete in the receiving game. He's not super explosive. He's
- 50:53Speaker 1: probably gonna run like a four seven, right, It's not
- 50:55Speaker 1: like he's going to jump off the film at you.
- 50:57Speaker 1: In terms of that, Dalin Kin Cade from Utah is
- 51:00Speaker 1: a jumbo wide receiver. That's what Bill Belichick would call him.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Bill Belichick would call him a receiver. He doesn't block
- 51:05Speaker 1: if he puts his hand in his dirt in the
- 51:07Speaker 1: dirt even in college, he gets blown up at the
- 51:09Speaker 1: point of attack as a blocker. But what an awesome
- 51:12Speaker 1: route runner in receiver. I mean, that guy is as
- 51:15Speaker 1: good a of a receiver as he can. He's just
- 51:17Speaker 1: learning how to play too. Yeah he's he's a little
- 51:19Speaker 1: bit raw, but had a lot of room to grow.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Super explosive receiver. Um Luke Musgrave doesn't do it for me.
- 51:26Speaker 1: He's he's big, he's he's fasten a straight line. Um,
- 51:30Speaker 1: but he doesn't play much. He's been injured a bunch
- 51:32Speaker 1: and I don't know, I'm not in love with that.
- 51:35Speaker 1: And uh Tarnel Washington from Georgia's just like a completely
- 51:38Speaker 1: different animal. Guy's six foot seven, two hundred and seventy pounds,
- 51:41Speaker 1: so he's basically a swing swing tackle. Yeah he's and
- 51:47Speaker 1: he blocks like one too. Um, but he can't he
- 51:49Speaker 1: can't catch the ball. You know, he's not a complete
- 51:51Speaker 1: but nothing. His numbers weren't eye popping, right. No, he's
- 51:55Speaker 1: had some they have another tight end, right, So brock
- 52:01Speaker 1: Bowers is that he's gonna be a top ten pick
- 52:03Speaker 1: next year in twenty twenty four. So I was watching
- 52:05Speaker 1: Darnell Washington, who Barth really likes, and I was texting
- 52:09Speaker 1: Barth and I was like, Okay, Darnell Washington's fine, Like
- 52:11Speaker 1: day two guy, He's fine. Who's this? Who's this guy? Like?
- 52:14Speaker 1: Who's the I would say, Ted's brock Bowers and he's
- 52:18Speaker 1: going top ten next year. So would you take one
- 52:20Speaker 1: of these Titans that you mentioned over the underwhelming group
- 52:23Speaker 1: of wide receivers in the first round. No, I think
- 52:27Speaker 1: Mayor has the chance. So the ceiling comparison that you
- 52:30Speaker 1: hear a lot with Mayor is like a Jason Witten type,
- 52:33Speaker 1: you know, just he's gonna be really really good for
- 52:37Speaker 1: a really long period of time. Um, that that's the
- 52:40Speaker 1: ceiling I think to be. I hate comparing guys to
- 52:43Speaker 1: guys like that, they're gonna be Hall of famers like
- 52:45Speaker 1: Jason Witten. So I've been comparing him to Hawkinson more.
- 52:49Speaker 1: But if you're gonna if he ends up being Witten,
- 52:52Speaker 1: then obviously that's an amazing pick. So I don't know,
- 52:55Speaker 1: but I don't see a guy that's overly dynamic, Like
- 52:59Speaker 1: I don't know if you're drafting Michael Mayer and then
- 53:02Speaker 1: every defense on Tuesday when they get into their meetings,
- 53:04Speaker 1: they're like, how are we going to cover Michael Mayer
- 53:07Speaker 1: this week? Like this is a problem, you know, Like
- 53:09Speaker 1: I don't think he's that type of guy. That's why
- 53:11Speaker 1: I'd rather take one of those like f guys lower
- 53:13Speaker 1: down in the draft. Like maybe you never have any
- 53:15Speaker 1: fooling that he's going to be a why blocking every
- 53:17Speaker 1: down guy, But if he's athletic and you know that
- 53:20Speaker 1: kind of thing, you might be able to plug him
- 53:21Speaker 1: in and get something model. Yeah, and a lot of
- 53:24Speaker 1: Michael have him, A lot of people have to Paton
- 53:27Speaker 1: Kincaid from Utah. Yeah, he's like that. I but he's
- 53:30Speaker 1: the first probably first round guy, right that I think
- 53:33Speaker 1: he's like a fringe, yeah, you know early maybe like
- 53:36Speaker 1: in the thirties somewhere, whether it's first round or ends
- 53:38Speaker 1: up being on early day too. Right, And that's another thing, Freddie,
- 53:42Speaker 1: are you going Okay? That's another one, Freddie. Though, depending
- 53:47Speaker 1: on what happens with free agency, Like a lot of
- 53:50Speaker 1: people have talked about Jonah Smith being expendable and you
- 53:54Speaker 1: know they could they could cut him, they could trade whatever,
- 53:56Speaker 1: you know, get that. Well, if that happens, then tight
- 54:00Speaker 1: moves up the list, like right now, Like not that
- 54:02Speaker 1: I'm thinking that you have this dynamic set of tight
- 54:05Speaker 1: ends with Henry and Smith, But you're going to use
- 54:08Speaker 1: a first round pick on a tight end when you
- 54:10Speaker 1: have Henry and Smith on your team, right, Like? Does
- 54:12Speaker 1: that make a lot of sense? So now we have
- 54:14Speaker 1: three unless the tight end is a blue ship and
- 54:17Speaker 1: then right which which is there isn't one? Right? You know?
- 54:20Speaker 1: I think most people think that Mayor has that kind
- 54:23Speaker 1: of potential. That's why he's a projected top twenty pick.
- 54:26Speaker 1: But it's I wish that he was a little bit
- 54:29Speaker 1: more dynamic in the passing game, like because that's where
- 54:32Speaker 1: sure he's gonna be a great bocker and a great receiver,
- 54:34Speaker 1: but he's gonna be elite at either one of them.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I don't know. It's kind of Henry, isn't it. I
- 54:38Speaker 1: mean that's kind of what it's like. Yeah, it's more
- 54:41Speaker 1: like prime hunter, That's what I see. Yeah, who also
- 54:44Speaker 1: was going into which is fine? Good like good play.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Like I saw someone say, can they get rid of
- 54:48Speaker 1: in a SPFW this week. I think I don't know
- 54:50Speaker 1: if you guys answered this because I didn't. I didn't
- 54:52Speaker 1: read it. I'm sorry, m but I do see all
- 54:55Speaker 1: the questions. And someone was like, you know what about
- 54:57Speaker 1: moving on from John hu Smith and signing Mike Say.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I'm like, great lateral move to Hunter Henry's like good
- 55:03Speaker 1: players like Mike Kasicki is a good player. I don't
- 55:06Speaker 1: think he stinks. I think Hunter Henry is a good
- 55:08Speaker 1: player too, but that's not gonna do it. And of
- 55:13Speaker 1: all the things that I'm I'm hopeful and optimistic about
- 55:15Speaker 1: with Bill O'Brien, it's that Hunter Henry's production will look
- 55:18Speaker 1: more like it did in twenty twenty one than it
- 55:21Speaker 1: did this year. I just at least the red zone
- 55:22Speaker 1: part of it, you know, a well designed offense that
- 55:25Speaker 1: puts him in position A. Yeah, I'm just looking at
- 55:27Speaker 1: those guys are forty fifty catch guys, and maybe if
- 55:31Speaker 1: you have a productive red zone guy, that's plenty, you know,
- 55:35Speaker 1: and Smith has been less than even that. Um, but
- 55:40Speaker 1: I'm with Fred. Like a couple of years ago, Kyle
- 55:42Speaker 1: Pitts came out and it's sort of been good for
- 55:45Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts, I would say, not great, but he's also
- 55:48Speaker 1: on a pretty bad team. That to me was a
- 55:51Speaker 1: guy that a lot of people thought was going to
- 55:53Speaker 1: be like generational kind of tight end. I could be
- 56:00Speaker 1: vinced on him. You know, if someone like that was
- 56:02Speaker 1: coming out at fourteen, and you wouldn't have gotten Kyle
- 56:05Speaker 1: Pits at fourteen, but you know what I mean, I
- 56:07Speaker 1: would have. I don't think the tight ends a big
- 56:09Speaker 1: enough need to take a guy who I do. I
- 56:12Speaker 1: do might be t J. Hawkinson. I do want to
- 56:14Speaker 1: welcome the train of thought though, that it doesn't have
- 56:17Speaker 1: to be or a certain type of like they just
- 56:21Speaker 1: needed number one something on their offense, right, So it
- 56:23Speaker 1: doesn't have to be It could be an inside receiver,
- 56:25Speaker 1: could be an outside receiver, it could be a tight end.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Like it's not I'm talking about passing games. I'm not
- 56:29Speaker 1: looking at running back right, Like it needs to be
- 56:33Speaker 1: preach it evan preach. It needs to be something, so
- 56:35Speaker 1: it should be something dynamic, right, So I don't think
- 56:38Speaker 1: Michael Mayer is necessarily dynamic. Um, but maybe they do.
- 56:42Speaker 1: And if they do, and they're right about it, then
- 56:44Speaker 1: what difference does it make that he plays tight end
- 56:46Speaker 1: versus playing why some pretty good offenses with Rob Gronkowski
- 56:49Speaker 1: being the dynamic Super Bowl champions have Travis Kelsey as
- 56:52Speaker 1: their number one options. And that's why, like, I just
- 56:54Speaker 1: I can't, I can't rule him out, like just how
- 56:57Speaker 1: they feel about tight ends they you know, I mean,
- 56:58Speaker 1: I know it's kind of a thing from three h
- 57:00Speaker 1: four that oh, he's always going to take a tight end.
- 57:02Speaker 1: But I couldn't rule that guy out as a potential option.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Melvin's a Tennessee what's up, Melvin? Hey? Hey, mom? Hey,
- 57:11Speaker 1: I just got a two general questions. One of them was, is, so,
- 57:15Speaker 1: if you're thinking about all the Great Coaches album had
- 57:18Speaker 1: obviously great players with him, from Bill to even basketball
- 57:21Speaker 1: with Pop and Jill Jackson, etc. So is is Tom
- 57:25Speaker 1: Coffler one of the ones to be one of the
- 57:28Speaker 1: greatest I'm say great coaches, but people really don't talk
- 57:31Speaker 1: about him. He's a great coach. He's a great NFL
- 57:34Speaker 1: coach and he and he was a good college coach
- 57:36Speaker 1: too by the way. But I mean he took a
- 57:38Speaker 1: Jaguars team to the AFC Conference like in their second
- 57:44Speaker 1: year of existence. Uh, and obviously he won two Super
- 57:47Speaker 1: Bowls with the Giants. He's a great coach. Yet he
- 57:50Speaker 1: was BC. Yeah, I mean he was pretty good, pretty
- 57:53Speaker 1: good coach Tom co Yeah. I mean when he went
- 57:55Speaker 1: to put together a couple of strong program programs. He
- 57:57Speaker 1: went to BC and installed a pro style offensive BC
- 58:00Speaker 1: and they were good. Yeah you know, so no he is,
- 58:04Speaker 1: he's up, he's up there. Just one of the true
- 58:06Speaker 1: old school coaches too of just infamous for just being
- 58:09Speaker 1: a total hard Oh oh yeah, it wasn't there, like
- 58:11Speaker 1: the if you're on time five minutes earlier later. But
- 58:15Speaker 1: I mean the whole Jacksonville thing, Fred you know, is right,
- 58:18Speaker 1: Like he takes over an expansion franchise and the second year, okay,
- 58:22Speaker 1: they overachieved and they pulled it upset, they got in
- 58:24Speaker 1: the conference championship. But I look more to what the
- 58:27Speaker 1: Jaguars were by the end of the decade. They were
- 58:30Speaker 1: the most talented, best team in the AFC. Now, they
- 58:34Speaker 1: lost in the conference championship game at home to the
- 58:36Speaker 1: Titans in ninety nine, but that's the team that he
- 58:40Speaker 1: built was really really good. Sometimes when you don't win,
- 58:44Speaker 1: you know, when I say win, you don't win at all,
- 58:46Speaker 1: you get overlooked like that. Um, the Vikings had a
- 58:50Speaker 1: team in that era that lost to the falcons um
- 58:53Speaker 1: in the in the conference shipship. That was a really,
- 58:56Speaker 1: really good team and no one really remembers them because
- 59:00Speaker 1: they didn't even get to the super Bowl, right, didn't
- 59:02Speaker 1: even when he came back in the late teens. Wasn't
- 59:04Speaker 1: he part of Jacksonville again? Here he was? He was
- 59:08Speaker 1: Bill Parcel. Yeah, Concigliari, Yeah yeah, no, it's a good call, Melbourne.
- 59:14Speaker 1: He's a good coach. Okay, one thing you under the
- 59:17Speaker 1: weather by the way, Yeah yeah, a little bit. Okay,
- 59:20Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on, but feel better, um
- 59:23Speaker 1: be better with uh. Shannon Sharp talk a lot about
- 59:28Speaker 1: his brother and stuff like that. I remember speak he said.
- 59:30Speaker 1: He said he was the second best football player in
- 59:33Speaker 1: his Stamiley, How good was Shannon Sharp's brother? I didn't
- 59:36Speaker 1: get a chance. He was really he was really good.
- 59:39Speaker 1: Yeah it was really good. Wide receiver, yeah, big strong guy.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Well yeah he was good. Yeah. Well Shannon Sharp was
- 59:46Speaker 1: also a wide receiver. So yeah, basically we are killing
- 59:50Speaker 1: the Patriots. Yester Sharp was really good. Yeah, all right,
- 59:53Speaker 1: thanks Melvin. Let's go to Todd in North Carolina. Hate Todd. Hey, guys,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: how are you doing good? Todd? So my quick question
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: is what do you want to see with respect to
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: the movement in this season for us to to say
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: it's a success with the coaching changes and stuff. Do
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: we have to get back to five hundred with MAC improving?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Do we have to get to the playoffs with Mac?
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: What do we need to see that make you guys say, hey,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: we just last year was an off year, was a
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: little bit of a you know, step sideways. But we're
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: back going forward and we can figure out what. I'll
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: know what when I say I would say, I mean
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: you could say MC, I just beat beat a good team.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Beat a good team. That's a low bar. Wow. How
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: about scoring some points? Yeah? Yeah? How about if the
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: other team gets twenty five games an NFL offense? I
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: think you got to ask me after the draft because
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I got to see you what what what moves do
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: they make? Like? That's the to me, that's the bigger thing.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I think the coaching on the field will be better
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: and all that type of stuff, But are they going
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: to change some of their ways with the with the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: personnel that they target this offseason? Are they actually going
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: to go out and get a real receiver, like not
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: no offense to the guys they have on the roster now,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: But like, are they going to go out there and
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: get Mac Jones a guy or whoever? Like, are they
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: gonna get him a guy? Are they gonna get a
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: little bit faster, more dynamic at linebacker and at some
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: of the others, Like are they not going to feel
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: corners that are all five foot eight? Like they gotta
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: go out there and make some moves. And until then,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I don't know how good their team is going to be.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: You would you guys agree that this is the if
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: if they don't do Whatevan's saying, this is the last
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: year of we're going to get the right guys instead
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: of the best guys, and if this is the last
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: if it does work, I just think you've been on
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: three years of saying that's what I mean. But as
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Bill staying, if it doesn't work, yeah, no, I'm saying,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: like that's the question. If it doesn't work, is he staying, Oh, okay,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: I think he does. I don't think he'll get fired. Yeah,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I don't know. I think that twenty twenty two was
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: a strike. And my earlier point, you've three years. You
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: can't really beat a good playoff team straight up think
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: he can't do it, And everything Evan said was completely valid.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, to me, until
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: you start beating good teams again, like you know, we
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: can talk about all the different things they can do,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: you guys are saying the same yeah, no, with a
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: focus on differently different area. Evans saying you need to
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: do it more athletic players, but like, like, okay, but
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: what if they don't do that and they win, They're
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: not gonna win. I can't have you cannot go to play.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: This is a chicken or the egg, right, Like, you
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: can't have it. You can't have it that both ways.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: You can't what you can have as a repeat of
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: the last two years, which I think are much more
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: similar than most people do. I know. But what if,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: like what if what if Mac is considerably better and
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: they do win some of these games they lost, so
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: they'll win ten eleven games, they'll make the wildcard round
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: and Buffalo blow them out again. Well, if did this,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: that's just one of those I need to see it.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Like you're saying, like Mac is really bad. If Mac
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: is much better and he becomes a different player than
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: we've seen the first two years. Yeah, that changes the equation.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Then maybe you don't need all of the bells and
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: whistles and you can just sort of, you know, augment
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: what you have. But I kind of tend to side
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: more Whatevan and Mike, Like I just made the comment like,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I don't think that the last two years were all
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: that different. I mean, obviously the coaching situation was a
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: train wreck, and for that reason it looked so different.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: But to me, the difference between eight and ten wins
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: was catching teams when they were completely banged up, or
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: you know, a bounce of the ball at the end
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: of a game, you know here or there, um two
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: years ago, you really caught a lot of teams at
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: the right time, you know, you really caught like Tennessee
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: really stands out to me. The Buffalo game in a
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: wind tunnel, like those are those are two games. I
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: don't think you would have won Baltimore in a rainstorm.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: That wasn't that? Why do I keep thinking that was?
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: But I'm just saying, like, the difference between eight and
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: ten is not that great. And I think if you
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: go ten, obviously ten and seven get you in the playoffs.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: But to Evan's point, it doesn't really get you closer
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: to winning a title, right, And that's and compare the
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Buffalo games, Like all the Buffalo games, of course, the
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: exception of the win game, it's all the same, right,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: every other one was double figures. Like, it's not like
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: you were on the precipice of beating them at any
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: time other than in a colossal windstorm. And that's why
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: I say, it's not just coaching, Like, that's why I
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: can't make that call. I can't answer that question until
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: I see the roster, because it's not just coaching. They
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: don't have a good enough team to go up against
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: the best of the best. But how are you going
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: to forget because they you just said that they're not
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: gonna be able to find the players they need to drop.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Are they going to be willing to in free agency
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: go out there and get them. That's kind of where
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I was going. They had to big spend, they didn't
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: really get anything under their big free agency spend on
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: opens So are they going to be willing to take
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: that shot again? And that's my concern because I don't
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: don't think they need to do it in the volume
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: that they did it in twenty one. I think they
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: need to go out and have a real, a real
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: big acquisition at a premium position. I would say either
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: corner or wide receiver. I think tackles and you can
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: get those in the draft, and they're pretty good at that,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: so I'll leave that up up to the draft. But
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: at wide receiver or corner, I need it. I'm sorry,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: I'm a sucker for the big names. There's a lot
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: of people are talking because Ramsey could be on the
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: eltse in LA, you know, with some of those past
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: dum bills that everybody talks about. Um. You know, I
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: don't know if that would be a big name, but
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the player that that's going
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: to give you the impact, but that's going to cost
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: you money. They Haven's point doesn't need to be the
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: volume of people, but that would be a big, you know,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: big name. I just look at the twenty one off season,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: and out of the last three off seasons, the twenty
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: one off season was the one time where they spent
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: money and the draft. They stuck to the brand names.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: In the draft. They drafted Mac Jones, Christian Barmore, or
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Mondre Stevenson from Alabama and Oklahoma and they were it
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: was all by by by the book, right, they didn't
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: go and stray away. And I think that that's what
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: annoyed me and frustrated so many people about the draft
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: last year. They got some nice players, like you know,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: they got some decent players, but they didn't have the
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: draft that they needed to have because they went they
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: went back, right, they they did their own things when
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: everyone was zagging again, I just think to Evans point like,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: and you're you're of course right, I mean, and we
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: talk about the draft before free agency, and I mean,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: all these things are going to happen, which might make
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: all of this discussion moved to some point. But if
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: we get to the end of the draft and we're
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: not legitimately thinking that they have a chance to at
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: least compete with Buffalo in the games, I'm gonna be pissed. Like,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: you know, like they have to how many different times
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: do you have to lose the Buffalo by double digits
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: and play them twice a year and you know what's coming, Like,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: at some point there has to be some kind of
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: steps made. And I know they did two years ago.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I don't know about last year, but we'll see where
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: they get to. I hope that they have they make
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: some some moves that give us some some hope and
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: some confidence that that's fine. I think this could be
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: a really fun and interesting off season because I think
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: they have a lot of avenues that they can explore. Yeah,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: I keep describing it as opportunistic. Where it was pushed,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: he push it. I like walked outside, looked at my phone.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I'm like, are you kidding? So I'm back. He's the
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: boss now, you know. He he gets a promotion and
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: he just moves means around. He had to move the
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: meeting back because he's listening to the show a right,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: apparently forgot about the show when he scheduled. Literally correct,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you know that's that's a story for another day. Okay.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Opportunistic is very pensive, thoughtful. He's like in the zone. Sorry,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I'm listening. Opportunistic. That's what I'm gonna call this off season. Um,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I just hope that they take advantage of the opportunity ahead.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: And like, I'm all about finding diamonds in the rough.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I get it. Marcus Jones. I would say he's a
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: diamond in the rough, but I am kind of over
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: that and I kind of want them to go spend
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: some money, Like, spend some money, don't be cheap. And
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I've said this multiple times, like no off brand guys,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Like to Evans point, I don't want an off brand
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: wide receiver for mac Jones, Like I want you to
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: go get the guy. Yeah. I just wonder like, who
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: was the heavy influence you know two years ago verse
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: last year? Right? If was this the same because it
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: felt like you were starting someone with like the MATC
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: grow moving in. So two years ago is Dave Ziegler Okay,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: so Dave Ziegler Belichick. I agree with Paul that it's
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: been billed the whole time. Well yeah, I mean i'll ultimately,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: but like it just seems like there was a different
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: mindset two years ago verse last year. Oh yeah, And
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I just to Tamara's point, there's going to be a
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: wide receiver and if it, if it, if he lives
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: up to the to the fourteenth overall pick in terms
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: of value, we'll see. But every offseason now, somebody moves
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: at that position every off season, and sometimes multiple like
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: last year's AJ Brown and Tyree Hill get traded. If
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: somebody of that tier becomes available, Yeah, DeVante Adams and
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins considered in that he's a little bit older,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: like in terms of age. So I don't know if
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: I'm giving up a first round pick for DeAndre Hopkins
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: at thirty one years old. But if somebody of that
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: elite tier comes available and they are the fourteenth overall
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: pick is not on the table for that receiver, then
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: that I'm gonna label that a big, big mistake, Like
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: this is you can't. You gotta stop messing around with this.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: You gotta stop because whether it's Mac or it's whoever,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: like like put whoever quarterback in, every single quarterback that
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: that is successful in the league has a guy you
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: just you can't look around the league like there's no
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: but there's no team that is making a conference championship games,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: that's making divisional rounds, it's making the super Bowl that
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: doesn't have an elite pass game. It's true. It's true.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: And it's like when you think of like our press
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: conferences and you're asking the asking the defense, like, hey,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: how are you gonna stop Terry Hill? Contain them? Whatever
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: you want to say. When you look at the Patriots
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: offense and you're asking an opposing team's defense about the
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Patriots offense, like there's nothing to ask. That's right, there's
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: nothing to ask. Oh, it all goes back to Patriots
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: are easy to do. So you know Tamara said the
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: comment about it, I'm not I'm done with the off
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: brand stuff. And Evan you you you're all in on
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: a trade for a wide receiver, like because they can't
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: draft the off brand. That was mean the off brand um.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Example of this would be in something I've seen a
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: little of Brandon Cook's coming back. Brandon Cook's a good
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: players still, he still produces. He he would make this
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: wide receiver record better. That's not like that's not enough
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: to me to bring a guy in that might have
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: another year or two. You know who knows? Three I
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: think that they need if they're gonna trade and make
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: a big swing, it's my guy. I know you don't
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: want it. Tie Higgins, you know I give up the
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: fourteenth over, I'll pick for teenyins. I would Mike won't
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: even trade up, won't even switch spots in the first round.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: He didn't hear that part of it. I don't know
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: if I don't think he's going to be I don't
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I don't think he's going anywhere Now, the more i'm
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: I'm reading out of Cincinnati. Although I did see a
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: thing today that had him getting traded one of the
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: offseason trades. I don't buy it. I think Evan's right Cincinnati.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Everything's come out of Cincinnati to me indicates this is
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: a team that's gonna do everything it can to keep
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: this Cord together for the here and now and take
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: another run or two. Now, at some point, pieces are
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: going to get lost because Burrow is going to get
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: it his contract. Well, that's the thing, you know, if
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: you're Cincinnati, you know there's all that thing. You'd wait
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: too long or you know, to make those changes. If
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I can give up like a top tier receiver, I
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: still have Ja Marcha. He's my number one. I give
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: up my number two. But then I get the fourteenth
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: pick in the draft, which right now I'm picking low.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I can keep bringing in that infusion of youth to
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: an already established But I think that's why I would
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: let Tyler Boyd go. Okay, But but he's not going
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: to get as much as t Higgins right, No, he's
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: not that he's not that help, but he's older, and
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: I would pulled on to Higgins and Chase with Borrow
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: and have that be the sort of the foundation of
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: my office. You want to keep that infusion of youth
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: coming even though you're an established team. I think the
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: the guys in Cincinnati that interests me that I think
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: are going to end up being cast officer, like the
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Jesse Bates Bates right, like he's going to be an
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: unrestricted free agent unless they tag him again. And that's
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: a guy that's going to get a double digit contract.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: But all right, you gonna pay it knowing that these
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: other bills are coming due down the line, Like he's
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: someone that could maybe fall through the cracks in Cincinnati
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: to be a good player for the Patriots to pick up.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: All right, let's see Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: That's how y'all doing it? Hi? Excuse me, I'm kind
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: of on the weather a little bit too. But I
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: like Tomorrow's like getting the tackle in free agency and me,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: me and everg gonna go out of eye. I still said,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Quentin is gonna be the gonna be the guy because,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: like I said, it's a bunch of Mark grafts him
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: and Addison is going either twelve or sixteen, and then
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: they got high at sometimes coming in their twelve. But
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: for those tackles that everybody won't most drafts, I see
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the gone in the in between one and eight. Those
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: three tackles are gone one and that including the Raiders
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: grabbing one, you know, so most of it. So I'm
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: like them, but I'd rather have a corner, which I
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: hate saying that, but that's that's that's that's why it's
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: not easy, Elder, because those are all very plausible scenarios
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: that unfold if three tackles go off the board in
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: the first date picks. I'm not sitting here banging the
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: table for attack at fourteen either. But that's the problem
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: that I think that they've ran into with Cole like
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: like Cole Strange, right, so they yes, they've made that
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: little small trade down, but they wanted a guard and
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: they ended up with the sixth best guard in the
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: first round or whatever it was, instead of, you know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: a premium player at the original pick, that they were
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: at a different position. I'm that that's my concern about
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: this draft too, that premium premium pum you yes, sir,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: let me cut you all, but you and Mike I
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: love y'all. I love y'all pre draft selection. Thank you.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: The other way, you haven't been in the room with
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Beale and just apparently they're they're they're listening and reading
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: everything we do, so you know, consider it whispered. Yeah, thanks, Ali,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: appreciate the call. Let's go to Williamett Philam, what's up William?
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: What's up for it? How are you doing? All right?
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: And also, uh, hi, everybody doing the prelum whatnot? Hi?
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: All right? Um, okay, So I'll just get right to it.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: So I'm gonna stick right off of what Tamara, Evan
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: and Eldred and Paul or whateverybody saying basically like you
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: got open up the checkbook and stop playing around. All right.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna be very seriously what I'm saying, enough is
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: enough and we pass the stage of what if this
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: and what if that? Or what if they'll do this?
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: What if mister Kraft do that? Like, just get it done,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: go get your offer like um, like Alex said, sign
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: one draft one. How about also you might want to
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: add so also add in trade one draft one two
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: by dread you know what I mean, I don't know
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: who it is what receiver or whatever. Just somebody that's explosive,
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: you know, takes takes the defense off the top. I
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: don't know who that is. And I understand the Quintin
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Johnson thing too, Evan, what you were saying. But because
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: of our our wide receiver coaches that can't build up
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: a receiver for whatever reason, I don't know, but I
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: do understand what you were saying. Even I'm with you
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: all the I would like, Quentin Johnson, but I do
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: understand your your cheminology of what you're saying. I'm definitely
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: what you so. Um, I'll just believe it that that.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I just hope we have a good draft and a
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: good free agency. Just get it done. That's all. Get
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: it done, Quentin Johnson's okay. Wait, I will say another
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: thing too. When they open the checkbook and get ready
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: to you know, sign and pay people, I need it
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: to be people worth the money, so like not Nelson Agilore,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: not Johnny Smith, like I need you to like actually,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: they need to be the guy and worth the money,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: not just like throwing money out to whoever you can
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: throw it too. Yeah, I think that that's that's a
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: big thing for me too, Is that like let's take
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: the consensus of Okay, this is a good free agency
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: class in this department, and this is a good draft
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: class in that department, and let's just pick from those pools.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Let's not go across the you know, against the grain
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: and say, oh, well, this is a really this is
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: a really bad valued Okay. So, for instance, I got
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: a perfect example. This is a not a good linebacker class.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: All right. I've watched like four or five linebackers so
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: far already, and none of them do it for me.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: It's not a great linebacker class. There's no linebacker that's
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: going to go in the top ten. I think the
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: first one is probably gonna go at the end of
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: the first round, Trent Trenton Simpson from Clemson. So don't
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: be the team that takes a linebacker, Okay, Like, don't
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: be the team that takes the linebacker because you, oh, well,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: we got linebacker one at twenty six. And you know,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: because this this year it's a week liass, you just
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: drafted a player from a week class. Like, that's not
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: a good thing too, that's not a you know. I
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: think they did this a couple of years ago when
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: they took Assi Assi and Dalton Keene. That was a
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: consensus bad tight end class, and they took two of
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: them from the bad tight end class that they felt
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: were the top guys in the draft in the third round.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: It's like, well, it was a bad class, so you
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: just took two bad players, like to the drafts. Yeah,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: so the draft this year has strengths, Free agency has strengths.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Stick to the strains. Is that that can't be that difficult? Yeah,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: all right, hard to argue, you know how much I
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: like speaking of the draft. I got this email that
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: I thought was interesting or funny. This is Mike and Baltimore.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: He says, it's the first annual draft with no Eric.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: We are having a party to commemorate our first draft
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: without Eric. The party would be held at the Providence
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Boys Club in the Buddy Siancy Room. Fifty dollars cover charge,

- 1:18:48Speaker 1: and Ball, The Basic American Loathing disorder and three Pistachio
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Animal Rescue. Come out and then watch the draft without
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: listening to Eric complain and help a great charity, the
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Walnut Chestnut Rescue. Ah, I thought that was a good
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: is good Mike in Baltimore, He just missed people are
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: passing around. Yeah, the high school kicker line was worth
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: the price admission. High school abstinence. That's that's that's a
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: good stuff. Yeah, it's a big membership. All right, we'll
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: take a break now because Paul's foods here. We'll be
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: right back after this. Verizon, the network America relies on,

- 1:29:34Speaker 1: I'm telling you an accurate story. But our first trip,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: so we traveled with the team on the team plane,
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: and our first trip was to lambeau Field, Oh, a
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: preseason game. I want to say, remember the game ninety so, like,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: right out of college, I think I had maybe taken
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: one family vacation as a kid, you know. So I'm
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: seeing a place. Hey, welcome to your new job. Let's
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: go to lambeau Field. Like what's not to love? Oh
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: my god. And I'll never forget. This was the before iPhones.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: So we were just getting into video on the web.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: So Fred was with me at the end of the
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: game and he had a little video camera and he goes,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: just get down on one knee and just say something
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: about the game and we'll post it on Patriots dot com.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: And you know, we're going to experiment with something called

- 1:30:30Speaker 1: you'd say, what did you expect? What does it feel like, Matt,
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: lambeau Field. You're paying me money to be here all
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: right back here in Patriots Unfiltered post break. Uh, it's
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: deuced Tamara, Evan, Paul, myself, Matt and the booth. We're
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: talking everything, mostly draft. It's early a little bit for draft.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: But I think people are excited. I did, you know,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: And they should be because we're in team building. Uh
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: you know mode here, you know, so we'll be going
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: to the combine next week. I mean that'll be a
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: big one. Lots from there. It's one of the themes
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: in the content department this year. We're going to be
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: doing ongoing stuff. Uh you know, we've already started doing it.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: From the Shrine Bowl. We had a lot of miked up,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: a lot of behind the scenes stuff. We're going to
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: continue that through the offseason at every stage of the
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: team building effort um trying to get as much access
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: as we can with cooperation from football to show you,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: you know, how this team is being built for twenty
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: twenty three. So it'll be pretty cool, I think. So, yeah,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: I hope. So I'm excited to get to the combine
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: coming this week. It'll be we'll be there the full time.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: Usually we were there for a couple of days and
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: then cut out for the But where do we leave
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: the dbs. We usually didn't see the dbs. But you know,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: with with the switching order of positions and uh, clearly
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: Friday I think as quarterbacks receivers, so we're there for
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: that and then Sunday or Saturday is the offensive line.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: So as we've been talking a great deal about out
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: those guys and I just go, yeah, I know Evan's
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: gonna be out there with his with his laser measure Peter.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: I just find though, and I've only gone twice. The
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: first year I went was was twenty twenty, right before
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: COVID with pollen and last year. But I just really
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: love you know, you watch these guys and you watched
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: their highlights in the film and all that stuff, but
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: just to get to hear them talk as people and
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: you just I don't know. There were a couple of
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: guys I came away with last year where I'm like,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: this guy just seems like he would fit and this
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: guy not so much. But um, I just like to
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: get to see these guys as actual people rather than
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: and plus when they just walk in and you're like,
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: oh my god, like they're just such That guy Robert Hunt,
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: I think was was maybe was that the guy that
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: blew us away Paul when we were there. It was
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: the giant, huge climan with just arms like that were
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: like my waist. So it was the other guy that
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: was a huge bust with the Titans. I think was
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: one of those. Yeah, Georgia his name, now, yeah, he's
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: already like he was a first round pick for the
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: for vrabel and he was gone like by the end
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: of the year. Yeah, he had some. He was enormous.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: Andrew Thomas, that was the guy. He was guy. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: no I give his name. We'll come back to it.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: But if only there was a way I could look
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: that out. Yeah, let's get to some of these emails
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: at web radio at Patriots dot com, Jack and and
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Aba writes in over under a Ruba edition, he has
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: Isaiah Wilson, the SPF raiding of Fred's suntan lotion and
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: a Ruba forty five. Oh, I'm playing the under on
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: that one. I mean, you're an oil guy. I would
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: guess you oil got to get the brown you a
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: brown up. He doesn't even look like he's been in
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: the sun. Right, there is an answer to this, So
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: what do you think? Over? Under? Over? I'm going under
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: because it looks like I actually heard the above, Like
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: I forgot what number. It doesn't actually it's fifty. Yeah,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: it's like you look like we should play the over.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: It's under SPF thirty thirty. Could you just spend no
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: time in the sun? No, it worked? Did you reapply
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: every two hours, every four hours? Whatever? Yeah? I did? Okay, Oh,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: because a Ruba as you know, Evan and me, and
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: it's friendship. It's it's very close to the equator. It's
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: close to the Venezuela, so like Venezuela. Like even if
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: you're in Florida, it's worse than that because you're so
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: close to the equator, so you really have to use sunscreen.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: We we've taken many ir relatives to the hospital in
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: a Ruba because of birds. Yeah, many irrelatives. I don't
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: think I could find it. I was. I was extra careful.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: Did you have a hat on? Oh? Absolutely? Oh yeah,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: you gotta go hat my bald head. My sister used
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: to wear. She was bad with the burns, so she
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: used to wear sleeves, like long sleeves in the sun.
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's bad. Yeah. Um the number of meals
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: at which FRED ate seafood, I'll go under on that one. Under.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: We talked about it because yeah, great, No, I didn't
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: even you know what, now that I think of it, Um,
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: I think I had a lot. I had surf and
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: turf one night, so I had some lobs Caribbean lobster.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: That sounds pretty good. But other than that, I it
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: was meat, meat, all meat, all the good. Where does
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: the Caribbean in lobster compare with New England lobster. Well,
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: Caribbean lobsters don't have claws. It's just the tail. So
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: it's just the tail. It's good. It's really real good,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: really good Mahi mahi. Yeah down there, and there's a
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: mako shark. There's one other thing forget to tell you.
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: We were at the beach the last day and a
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: hammer head shark came to shore. People were freaking out.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: It was like, you know, seven eight feet long. Yeah,
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: a hammer on my head. Hammer head specific or sharks generally, yeah,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: especially down there because the water so it was it
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: was like a scene from Jaws. Like everyone like like
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: like guys were like big fat guys on floats, like
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: scrambling trying to get out of the water and everything.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: It was wild. It was are you or an ocean
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: guy or a pool guy? I like? I like the ocean.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: I love the ocean, but I love the pool too,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: you know, lakes not so much lakes. Like we actually
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: left the beach that day and went to the pool.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: Sometimes you don't want to deal with animals. Waves. The
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: waves gets pretty rapped down there. Sometimes it's not as
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: much as I used to be back, but it can
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: get pretty choppy. Out there. Did you see that frozen shark? Fred?
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Down in a corporation? There was a there was a
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: video of a couple of weeks ago we had the
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: real bad cold. That was just a frozen shark there
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: on the beach. There kind of shark. It was one
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: I had never heard of before. It's smaller fresh books. No, no,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: it looked it looked pretty mean though it had some
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: good teeth on it. It wasn't a great white but
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: it was a little guy. But but now at least identified.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: I don't know what it was. Final over under the
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: number of drinks that Fred drank out of a coconut
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: shell and a rub that's not a big thing. Three
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: I'll go under due to a coconut. But if we
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: were just doing generally, how many drinks you had? Definitely
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: under in the coconut I didn't have any. Yeah, coconuts
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: not not the right island. One thing I will say
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: about a rubat I think overall they have weak pores
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: in their drinks. Oh yeah, I think they want to
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: keep it one happy island. I don't think they want
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: a bunch of drunks running around. So like I noticed,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: like last year I went to Saint Croix and I'd
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: have one drink on the beach and I'd be passed out.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: In Aruba, it wasn't that way. Well, you also have
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: to the sun makes you it hit harder. Well, but
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: that's why I also think it there. It's a weak
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: poor and usually be the They're pretty liberal with the
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: rum down in those places. Yeah, the rum drinks they flow,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: but beer wise, okay, um, let's see Dan writes in
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: Virginia and Michigan. Your discussion about the XFL as a
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: farm system prompted a couple of questions. Would the NFL
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: and XFL need to have a formal relationship in order
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: for the nfl PA to be the players union for
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: the XFL. Do you think the players would have divided
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: loyalties when faced with more playing time and perhaps more
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: opportunities to shine in the XFL compared to obscurity on
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: a practice squad. Yeah, I think all those things are
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: in play. I think there would have to be a
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: formal relationship. And I think Paul's thing about just playing
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: football constantly, like, I mean, I totally get the value
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: of it. Though. You think of a guy like Trey
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: Nixon who's been went around two three years now played
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: two games. I mean he's got to be chomping at
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: the bit to get out there and get some game
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: action or at least, you know, maybe finally decide, Look,
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: am I going to make a jump to being a
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: player in the league or you know, my head it
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: just to I'm gonna hang on a practice squad for
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: a couple of years and then be out. Love to
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: see some of those guys be able to have more experience. Also,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: he says, regarding the Jets and the possibility of Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: what caliber of quarterback would the Jets need to be
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: a serious contender in the AFCAST. Would it need to
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: be somewhat at Roger's level, or could a decent quarterback
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: change their fortunes. I mean, they're the Jets side. I
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: think it's got to be somebody like and even and
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: I even like as much I think Aaron Rodgers a
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: really good player. I wonder if he's gonna get to
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: the Jets and he's gonna get infected by the Jets
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: and not be the same. But I think they need
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: they need a bona fide superstar. They've got a lot
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: of talents. When the Jets is that they they are
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: totally talented it like pretty much every other position on
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: their roster except quarterback. But yeah, even if they get
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: a quarterback, you still feel like it's the Jets, right
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: Like you still feel like they're going to find a
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: way to screw it up. But I mean their rosters
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: loaded outside a quarterback. Now, I mean, if I remember correctly,
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: like like Farv went there in Oa, I remember that
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: game right after Brady got hurt and going there and
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: being like, oh boy, they're gonna get us, and the
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: Patriots pulled it out. But but I don't remember him
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: being that good that year. And then he went to
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: Minnesota and I think was like had him in like
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: the NFC Championship like the next game. Like it's weird
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: like that, Like you go to the Jets and even
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: even a guy like by far who maybe did have
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: something left, still couldn't do it. Yeah. Um, Andrew and
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: La says, Yes, I agree with Travis Kelsey. They were
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: a complete underdog story. They only opened up third in
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: the Super Bowl odds in the preseason and only opened
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: up his favorites in the spread when the betting started
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: for the Super Bowl. Truly a Cinderella story. Yeah, it's funny,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: it's just the cliche. At this point, you gotta I mean,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: I can't get two macaus. The Patriots did the same thing, right,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: eighteen Patriots, the two thousand and three or fourteen, whichever
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: one that was. I just think when you're a professional athlete,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: you're so tuned to hear things that you know will
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: motivate you, and so you glam onto those. And you know,
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: maybe some guys love to hear about positive Paul. Paul
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: hears certain things like he comes out with everyone's saying like,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: who where are you getting this? You know, the depths
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: of Twitter. Somebody tweeted something. Yeah, he's got like strong
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: man Twitter that he follows, you know. Joseph from Irvine, California.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: A couple of rules questions that maybe you can give
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: your input about. One, what's the point of the overtime
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: coin flip? Whoever gets the ball in the first half
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: first should automatically get the OT first. If this is
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: known the entire game, then teams can play called differently
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: their last offensive drive if they have zero confidence in
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: their defense. So whoever gets the ball in the first
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: half first should automatically get the OT first. But isn't
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: it like a choice? Yeah, but I think aren't you
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: aren't you deferring the choice? Like technically Like it's not
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: like so I think that there's some fine print in
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: that area that you would have to do another one
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: to see. The second one is the one point rule
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: where you can score or one point if you get
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: a safety on a two point conversion. Why is this
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: not worth like twenty points? Seems like it should be
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: worth a lot more than one point if you can
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: accomplish that. But you give him the ball back to
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: them too, so it's like two points plus yea to
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: lose the ball. It's so flukey though. Yeah, let's see
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: Alex from Raleigh. With the return of Slater and possibly
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: d mac leaving, there will be at least one opening
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: for a captain this upcoming season. Do you think it
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: would be time for Dugger to start becoming the voice
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: of the team in game? It seems like he helps
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: set the tone of the defense on the field with judeon.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: He's a hard hitting playmaker and I think he has
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: major upside potential. What would be your thoughts at him
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: finding a leadership voice for the team next year? I
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: like it in theory, and I mean I think he's
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: he should be a guy that as much as you
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: talk about the money going to free agency, like, I
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: wouldn't be opposed to, you know, signing him up early.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: What I mean, he's on the verge of potentially huge season,
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: internally developed guy what three pick three touchdowns last year.
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think that he is like the
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: next coming of Ed Reid just yet, but I think
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: that he's a good, really solid, kind of serious guy
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: that I'd love to keep that around. And I think
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: you have to start to build this new leadership. And
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: I mean, I have nothing against Slater coming back. I
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: just I do wonder at what point do you have
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: to turn the leadership over and instead of Matthew Slater,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Devin mccordy's saying, guys, this is what we used to do,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: this is how it has to be. Like maybe you
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: need to rip that band aid off at some point
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: and let this team with like a Kyle Dugger in
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: front of it, learn it from themselves and have to
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: be the team that has to you know, I pick
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: pick yourself up at your bootstraps, that kind of thing.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: How long is mccordy and Slater saying, you know, back
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: when we did like it does that's still ringing true.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: And at what point do you have new leadership that
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: comes in and forms a new core. That's just one
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: of the questions I have. Where as these guys continue
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: to play and play and play and kind of kick
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: the can down the road. It's my biggest question with
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: this team. That's not like about wide receivers and draft
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: talk and all that stuff, is who's going to really
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: take on that leadership void and when are they going
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: to rip the band aid and kind of pass that torch?
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: Like I love that Slater's coming back, and I hope
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: mccordy comes back too, honestly, But at some point you
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: have to turn it over to some other people. And
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: I think Slater talked about it, and you know Bruski
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: and Vrabel and those guys turning it over to him
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: and to Brady obviously, but you know some of the
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: newer guys drawn Mayo at the time. And when does
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: that transition start? Has that transition already started? I think
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: with Dugger in particular, I don't. He doesn't come across
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: to me. I think the differences is, you know, Devin
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: mccordy and Matthew Slater are commanding, raw ra type of guys,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Like they command a room. They walk in and they
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: speak and they're very motivational and very persuasive and how
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: they talk. I don't necessarily see Kyle Dugger that way,
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: but doesn't mean he can't be a leader, just a
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: different type of He's gonna be the quiet, serious type
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: that's gonna go knock somebody's head off. Yeah. I thought
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: they have a bunch of those that are like great guys,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: but just more on the quiet side. Yeah, Like Jacobe
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: is kind of like that. Well, let's talk about Mac
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: a little bit because last year he became a captain,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: but you know, he had his issues with the coaching.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: But despite throughout all the turmoil, at least the reports
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: told us that he still had the players with him,
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: Like he still had players on his side. So you think,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: like the fact that the team admitted that they, you know,
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: the experiment failed, they made a mistake, they moved on,
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: They brought in Bill O'Brien, is that going to help
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Mac in his standing with the player? Like does does
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: the actions kind of say Mac, you are right? And
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: does that help him in his standing as a leader?
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Around the team. I like, I like how you put that.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: I mean, I think, I mean, at least for the
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: way I look at it, not that you know, I
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: had a lot of doubts of what was going on,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: but I mean it does seem a little bit like
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: and I definitely have issues with what how Mac handled
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: certain things. But I think you're right. He was, you know,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: right to an extent. And you know what they went about.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: It wasn't a good plan. It didn't really work. So
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: I think he probably earned some respect. But I just
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: wonder what's Mac like this offseason with you know, maybe
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: his hands full with Bill O'Brien and everything that Bill
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: O'Brien's going to bring to the table. You know, how
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: much is Mac able to be a team leader whereas
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: he I think I just need Mac to get down
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: this offense and get down what Bill O'Brien is asking
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: him to do so that he can then make sure
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: his offense is on the same page before he starts
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: getting into like I'm the guy I'm gonna lead this
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: team to to the Promised Land? Is there unspoken role
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: of a quarterback has to be a captain? I think,
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: especially for not maybe not rookies. But yeah, I mean
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: this is always a big thing come draft season when
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: a guy isn't a captain for his college team, like
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: Zach Wilson not a captain in college, and that's always
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: a big deal to strike against you. Yeah, was Daniel
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Jones a captain of the Giants last year? Like, I mean,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: kind of keeping that going, Like I think, you know
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's such a unique position in team
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: sports where you know you've got the ball in your
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: hand on every play, you're calling plays in the huddle,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: Like you know, it's you have to kind of be
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: a leader. You have to lead. I feel like some
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: people like lead by example, like with how they play
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: on the field, but they're not necessarily like a Slater
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: or a McCarney in terms of like knowing what to
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: say and when to say it right. Some people are
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: like quiet leaders. There there moves on the field like
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: make them a leader. Like the way they command the
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: huddle makes them a leader, but they might not necessarily
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: be able to command the locker around. Yeah, like it.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: I think I think you need all types. And I
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: mean the two thousands Patriots, especially in defense, I think
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: illustrates you know, just that the variety of of guys.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Mike Rabel probably not a raw ra kind of guy,
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: but you knew he was going to bring it. Willie
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: probably a little bit more of the raw ra, you know,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: making sure guys are in line, that kind of thing.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: It's just I think that that was something within that
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: twenty years that they were so lucky to have so
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: many players that were great leaders, and when those players
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: started to fade, they found more players that were great leaders.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: And and I think, you know, to the point that
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: Evan and I have been making it feels a little
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: bit like we're who are those next guys? And here
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: we are twenty twenty three, kind of still a question
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: for me, who are those guys? Even with some of
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: the talented players you know that they have on the roster,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: Even looking at like last year's rookies, you know, like
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: even like Marcus Jones, who you know, it's just a
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: rookie and really didn't talk or ever have a press
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: conference last year, but still you get the vibe that
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: he's probably more on that dugger. Quiet, great guy, but
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: not gonna be the you know that that touch point
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: that every team I think needs, as as the emotional leader,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: and maybe that's why they're they're bet and over backwards,
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: not I don't want to say bet and over backwards,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: but maybe that's why part of the motivation to bring
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: Slater back. I would love to see Jacoby be a captain.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Like if it didn't have to be like an unspoken
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: rule that Mac had to be a quarterback, I would
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: love for that to be Jacoby if he's here, Jacoby
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: being a quarterback, I don't know, just the way he
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: handled just so many tests, and I mean he was
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: a quarterback. I mean, you know, I just I mean,
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: there's so many great guys in the locker room. It's
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: just a line between great guys and the quarterback. David
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Andrews always a captain, and then like James White was
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: a captain towards the end of his career. So they've
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: had three offensive captains for that. But I've had a
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: little bit of a gripe with a lot of the
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: reporting that's come out so far about Mac in the
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: way he handled the season and the coaching and all
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: all this stuff. I think Jeff Darlington had a report
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: that it and rubbed people in the league the wrong way.
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: Be careful with that though, because I saw him reply
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: to that Dove climbing guy and being like, you're taking
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: this out of context, so I don't know if you're
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: going off of that, but Mac responded no, no, no, uh.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: Dove Climbing took like an appearance Jeff Darland like Maide
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: and talked about Mac, and then Darlington went back at
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Dove and said, the way you're describing it in this
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: tweet is not the purpose of what I was saying, right.
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: I just think that I don't want to name names,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: but can we please think long and hard about who
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: has motivation to put this stuff out there? Because I've
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: think thought about it in a lot of different ways,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: and I don't know what the motivation is for for
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: the Patriots current Patriots coaching staff to put out there
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: that Mac Jones is some insubordinate, you know child, right
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: like they're if they're if they're don't believe in him
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: and they're trying to trade him, then why would they
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: train his tank his trade value? And if they do
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: believe in him and they are trying to put their
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: weight behind him as the quarterback in the franchise quarterback
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: of the team, then why would they be ragging on him,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: so obviously the people that are leaking to some media people,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: and Jeff Darlings is not the only one I know
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: that maybe he was taken out of context and everything,
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: But there's been a lot of chatter about that this offseason,
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: that you know about Mac and how he handled himself
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: and things like that. Just just be where Who do
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: you think would actually want to put that out there
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: to save their own asses? I think everybody can read
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: between the lines who I'm talking about? Who benefits from
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: the story, right, Paul, Did I miss any arguments? No? No,
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: But speaking of arguing, U, Ben writes in or is
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: this Ben? It's Burt. Last week when Fred was on vacation,
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: Colin from Kansas City called right after lunch on Thursday
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: talking about how the Chiefs fans have already designated Mahomes
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: as the goat over Tom. Colin mentioned that even if
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: Mahomes win seven rings, Tom still holds the tiebreaker over Mahomes.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: Now Here is where I need to defend Colin, because
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Paul immediately jumped to the AFC Championship game as the tiebreaker.
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: Now I know Paulli, Paul has a steel trap memory,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: but it seems to be rusty outside of the Patriots games,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: because he quickly seemed to forget that Tom beat Mahomes
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl with the Bucks. I think he
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: said both, So I did say that was the tiebreaker.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: Now when Paul gets defensive and does as usual, that's
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: not what I said routine. Nope, that is what I said.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: I ran the tape back and its exact words were,
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: so mahomes first year as a starter, he goes toe
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: to toe with the greatest player that's ever played and
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: loses an epic fashion without having an opportunity to touch
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: the ball in overtime, and that means Brady is better
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: than Mahomes. I also said that I believe that's word
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: for word what I said. I thought I thought for
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: sure that Evan or Deuce would mention the Bucks Super Bowl,
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: but no one may mention of it. Thankfully, we now
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: have our fearless leader back, because someone has to stand
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: up to the big intimidating PP in the room. Far
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: from intimidating, how dare anybody challenged Tom Brady? Wow, the
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: hatred now we have we have two now, the two
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: people that hate Brady. Oh did you see that he's
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: having a retirement party in Tampa. What, Oh, it's going
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: to pale in comparison to what we have here. Well,
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: who's putting in common? Is he? I think some brand
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: of his? Or but have we have we asked him
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: yet if he wants to come back, because I'm so
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: worried about it. I'm worried. I'm not involved in those
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: high level I'm not. That's why I'm asking the people
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: that are. That's right, that's right? So is that a yes? Bigger?
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Because nothing confirmed? Yeah, my heart needs to be put
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: back together. No, my wheels are in motions That emailer
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: was perfect like he was. That's exactly what he did.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: Not misquote me at all, um. But my point was
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: only that if Mahomes ends up accomplishing what Brady accomplished,
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: and I think we can argue he's more dynamic and
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: is asked to do more than Brady was most of
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: those years, like especially early, there's an argument to me
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: like that that That's all the point I was trying
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: to make, Like like the tiebreaker, Yeah, Brady has beating
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: him twice in the playoffs twice, so yeah, you could
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: use that as a tiebreaker. I just I'm not ready
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: to like deduct points from Patrick Mahomes when one of
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: those losses was, as I described his first year as
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: a starter, he puts thirty one points on the board
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: in the second half and never gets to touch the
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: ball in overtime. Like I have a hard time killing
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: the quarterback for that loss. No, I mean right now,
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: but like who knows, Like someday somebody will be better
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: and needed an It may not be Mahomes. It may
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: you know, like something, it's just the way the lead
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: is going with offense and everything like that, Like it
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: may not we not may be alive to see it,
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: but someday, just like Michael Jordan's someday and some people
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: say Lebron now is but someday somebody will be the
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: clear goat in the NBA who isn't alive right now,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: but you know, not Lebron. But like do you just
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: do you think that there's I mean, I think what
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: we get lost on is that Tom Brady is the
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: most accomplished quarterback and you know, it's it's just it's hard.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: I think that that's what's gonna get split. It's like
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: no one ever might get seven Super Bowls as a
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: quarterback again, that doesn't mean that Tom Brady is the
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: best quarterback that ever played, Like he's probably gonna be
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: the most accomplished, and certainly in the playoffs, but that
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: this is where that debate is. He is and he's
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: going to have all then, but he's also going to
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: have all the numbers too, Like he's gonna have, you know,
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: the most touchdown counting in the most yeah all you know,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: all the yards and whatever. But I agree with you.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: And that's when I and I think it might have
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: been in the same time last week. Well, I and
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: I know Fred loves this guy too. John Elway has
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: always been my guy, right, you know, he's not ever
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: going to be considered to be one, two three on
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: anybody's list, but if you ask me from watching him play,
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: he was the guy that stood out to me. But
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: if I'm building a team, I want the guy who's
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: gonna win for me, right, isn't At the bottom line,
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: I don't care about the guy who could throw the
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: ball the best. I want the winner, and Tom Brady's
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: the greatest that ever lived, period, end of story. End
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: of story. Can't argue with you can't argue with with that.
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: He just got seven, right, no one else is more
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: than four and he's responsible for them. It's not like
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: he was a passenger in twenty one. He is kind
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: of a passenger. I mean, um, maybe, but like, were
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: they gonna do it with Drew bledsoe he won the
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: AFC Championship game. Okay, but I would argue that they're
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: gonna do it with Drew? You know that there is
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: no give me the answer, there is no bigger don't
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: be a wise guys. That's a very endearing quality. Just
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: when you thought you had answers, he changed the question.
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: I like it. No, no bigger Drew guy than me. No,
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: My my answer is no. They would not have won
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: the super Bowl in two thousand. Brady made a difference,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: especially in that of the biggest game and difference. But
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: I threw his veins or whatever it was, and you know,
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: his first year as a starter, I mean what else.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Let me come on, fred, Fred, don't confuse that with
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: a couldn't you know like that he wasn't a passenger strong,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: but come on, yards okay. I also will say that
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: there are a bunch of people who don't like the
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: homes because of his family. I don't know if you guys,
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: y'all are in big social media use. I'm raising my hand,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: but I'm Jackson, both of them, both of them, and
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: I think that those two are like why people don't
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: like him too, because like they don't want to see
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: Patrick too well, because they don't want to deal with them.
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna step back there because I do like my Homes.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: I think he's great. I think that the baggage that
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: comes with her, Yeah, they are insufferable. I don't mind
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: him winning. I fred I don't just don't like them.
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: I think people can root against Kansas City because they
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: don't want to see that those two. I don't think
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: people don't like Mahomes because of that. Well, I think
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: I think, well, they don't want a lot of people. Yeah,
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: that's why I said it's different because she's pouring beer
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: on people and calling water on people, like being a
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: knocked Like she's just this this version. So she just
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: goes out and like dumps beers on people. I haven't
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: seen her lately. I haven't seen her at all. They've been,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: they've been this season. I think that they're sort of
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: they had a meeting, Yeah, they had a meeting. Yeah,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: they had there's also clips of them like at a
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: basketball game, like where like the cameras on them and
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: he's like, stop with your RBF face. Oh yeah, She's like,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: I don't have a resting and then it's like a
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: whole thing like someone caught on camera. But yeah, but
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: this year they had a come to Jesus meeting, I
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: think for sure, because they've been a lot better. Just
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: one more question on the baything though, like how unique
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: do you think it's going to be for his longevity
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: because that's a big part of what he did, and
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: you know, are can you do especially when you have
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: some mobile quarterbacks that you know. That's why I agree
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: with the way Fred said it, Like with with Jordan,
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: you know someone's gonna come along. I think right now
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: everybody says that will never happen again because people will
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: say no one will ever played till forty five. I
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: think that will happen repeatedly in the next two decades,
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: right even, I think that is going to continue. Mahomes
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: moves around and Alan moves around. Maybe not maybe no,
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: maybe not those two guys. What about guys will do
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: that because I think that you don't get hit anymore.
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: I think the nutrition and everything is always getting better
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: and better. I think they learn how to eat skinless
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: chicken better than they did in the past. I think
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: there were a lot of reasons why these guys will
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: play into their forties and the money is so now.
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: That can work both ways. Because you make so much money,
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: you don't have to stick around. But if you really
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: love it, the money, you know, I just got finished
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: talking to Matthew Slater. You know, money didn't come up.
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: But we're old, does Matthews. We're gonna make three million dollars,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: not as the you know what I mean. I'm not suggested.
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: Don't take that into me saying that he only came
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: back for the money. I'm just saying that has to
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: be part of your thought. Pride, of course it is.
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: You got a family in his thirties, yeah, like five kids.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: I'm obviously on the record of absolutely despising that Tom
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: Brady played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the fact
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: that he went to Tampa Bay and then won the
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl with another team in the first year that
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: he was there, right, And I just don't know if
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: anybody else. I wish that Evan was on the show
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: then to see what happened with Fred and Evan because
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: Fred was so giddy happy and you were so upset.
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: That could have been a couple of good shows. I'm
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: still upset about it, and and you know, like with
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: your unefficient and I'm not gonna say that every year
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: Tom was here, he was all bought in, because certainly
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: his last two years in Tampa was different. But that
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: first year he got there, it's it's documented that he
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: changed the culture. He came in and immediately the mindset
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: was different, the whole team. He was holding those illegal workouts. Yeah,
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: well whatever, but like everybody was bought in because of him.
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: Yet he's a true leader, you know. All right, Um,
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: that's it for this edition. I'm a little upset that
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: I missed the fights. There weren't any. You're gonna want
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: to watch the show on Thursday, because we're gonna have to.
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: We're in here. What we're gonna have something special that
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: we're gonna be away, Uh, something special that we're gonna
