• 0:35
  Speaker 2: Let's Talk.
• 0:36
Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Carl Lee with Let's Talk.
• 0:39
Speaker 3: And I have in the building both of my co-hosts,
• 0:41
  Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis.
• 0:43
Speaker 4: Hello. And the football queen, Lisa Odie.
• 0:46
Speaker 5: Just trying to destroy things over here before the show,
• 0:48
  Speaker 5: but that's okay.
• 0:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, she is tearing stuff up before the show got started.
• 0:52
  Speaker 2: But.
• 0:54
Speaker 3: We're going to open up with our, I'm going to
• 0:56
Speaker 3: say our local, somewhat local, major colleges, WVU and Marshall.
• 1:02
Speaker 4: And Lisa, I think you said that you had some
• 1:04
Speaker 4: stats about both games.
• 1:07
Speaker 5: I sure do. And they were opposite, complete opposite games
• 1:10
Speaker 5: to a degree, at least the score goes. Let's just
• 1:14
Speaker 5: say there was happiness there. In Morgantown and not so
• 1:18
Speaker 5: much happiness in Beaver Stadium. But we'll start with WVU.
• 1:23
Speaker 5: Of course, we know they defeated Coastal Carolina on Saturday, 31-24.
• 1:29
Speaker 5: It was the all-white game. So they had a pretty
• 1:31
Speaker 5: good attendance, you know, considering sometimes the opening game being
• 1:35
Speaker 5: Labor Day weekend, the end of summer, and, you know,
• 1:37
Speaker 5: sort of a money game that we're going to talk
• 1:39
Speaker 5: about here in a minute. Doesn't always get the best numbers,
• 1:42
Speaker 5: but it looked like a good crowd. They retired Pat
• 1:44
Speaker 5: White's jersey number. And they recognized the 2007 Gator Bowl
• 1:49
Speaker 5: championship team. So had a good crowd. But, of course,
• 1:53
Speaker 5: they played. Depends on which half of football you want
• 1:57
Speaker 5: to you want to consider. But, you know, even head
• 2:00
Speaker 5: coach Rich Rod said after the game that, you know,
• 2:03
Speaker 5: he felt like WVU played sharp, clean football in the
• 2:05
Speaker 5: first half. and then performing an execution drop significantly in
• 2:10
Speaker 5: the second half. So what do you guys think? I mean,
• 2:13
Speaker 5: is this an acceptable way to open the season? You know,
• 2:16
Speaker 5: they still have UT Martin next week at home, so
• 2:20
Speaker 5: that's kind of another, you know, smaller team coming in
• 2:23
Speaker 5: to play. And then they face, I think, No. 25
• 2:26
Speaker 5: Virginia the week after that. So, I mean, do you
• 2:28
Speaker 5: think that they've got time to fix some things that
• 2:31
Speaker 5: they might need to fix or– What's your opinion?
• 2:36
  Speaker 4: I'll say this.
• 2:37
Speaker 3: I think that's one of the reasons why the teams
• 2:41
Speaker 3: that you pick early in the season are, quote, a
• 2:45
Speaker 3: lesser team. And the other side of that, lesser teams
• 2:49
Speaker 3: don't mind playing a game like that because they're going
• 2:52
Speaker 3: to get paid for that game. So if you're looking
• 2:56
Speaker 3: at the WVU side of that, I think you're okay–
• 3:02
Speaker 3: with some of the mistakes, but I don't think that
• 3:05
Speaker 3: you're happy with it because what you wanted, you wanted your.
• 3:08
Speaker 4: First group, first team group to play as well as possible.
• 3:13
Speaker 3: And then maybe some of those mistakes also may have
• 3:15
Speaker 3: came from some of the backups if they, if they
• 3:17
Speaker 3: did some substitutions and all those kinds of things. But
• 3:21
Speaker 3: I think for the first game, I think you have,
• 3:24
Speaker 3: and I don't know how he's judged it as far
• 3:27
Speaker 3: as how they played, but I think you're really looking
• 3:30
Speaker 3: just to kind of judge how your team played and
• 3:33
Speaker 3: what mistakes that you have to correct.
• 3:35
Speaker 4: What do you think about that, Hollis?
• 3:37
Speaker 6: I think, and Rich Rod kind of alluded to the
• 3:39
Speaker 6: fact that he got ultra conservative in the second half.
• 3:42
Speaker 6: And I think, you know, that can be a coaching mistake. Again,
• 3:45
Speaker 6: you You have a lead, you're holding on to the lead.
• 3:47
Speaker 6: Maybe in his mind, you just want to get guys
• 3:49
  Speaker 6: out healthy.
• 3:49
Speaker 4: You're not really trying to pad on.
• 3:51
  Speaker 5: Good point.
• 3:51
Speaker 6: But I think, you know, for the fan base, obviously
• 3:54
Speaker 6: we want to see, you know, big blowout games like that.
• 3:57
  Speaker 3: Right, right.
• 3:57
Speaker 6: So I think it's one of them situations where you
• 4:01
Speaker 6: have to ask yourself, like, you know, as far as
• 4:06
Speaker 6: like moral victories and moral losses, right? So is this
• 4:09
Speaker 6: a situation in which you won the game but kind
• 4:11
Speaker 6: of still lost a little bit?
• 4:13
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 4:13
Speaker 6: Or like I know West Virginia State, we played Robert
• 4:16
Speaker 6: Morris this past weekend. We lost the game, but we
• 4:18
Speaker 6: still kind of won in a lot of ways. So again,
• 4:21
Speaker 6: I think it's one of them things in which you
• 4:23
Speaker 6: got some tape now. You can go in, you can
• 4:26
Speaker 6: make those corrections. And what you want to see next
• 4:28
Speaker 6: week with UT Martin, you want to see that big explosion.
• 4:31
Speaker 6: You want to see offensive defense just be totally dominated defensively.
• 4:34
Speaker 6: and get them out by the third quarter with a
• 4:37
  Speaker 6: sizable lead.
• 4:38
Speaker 3: Tell me a little bit, I didn't see much on
• 4:41
Speaker 3: the West Virginia State. Give me a little bit of
• 4:45
Speaker 3: conversation about how they looked.
• 4:48
  Speaker 4: They looked decent.
• 4:49
Speaker 6: I mean, like I said, he played Robert Morris, which
• 4:52
Speaker 6: was a Division I program at FCS. State actually handled
• 4:55
Speaker 6: him pretty well. Physicality was about even throughout the whole
• 4:58
  Speaker 6: entire game.
• 4:58
  Speaker 8: Really?
• 5:00
Speaker 6: You know, State was down eight to nothing going into
• 5:03
Speaker 6: the second quarter on a two-yard line. Ended up getting
• 5:06
Speaker 6: a false start penalty, which put them back. They kicked
• 5:08
Speaker 6: the field goal. And again, if you look at first
• 5:12
Speaker 6: half statistics, State really handled it. Although, you know, they
• 5:16
Speaker 6: were down 15. Well, was it at that point, you know,
• 5:19
Speaker 6: 15 to three? Excuse me. No, it was nine to
• 5:23
Speaker 6: 15 going into halftime. And then from there, they just
• 5:26
Speaker 6: never really could get offensively on track. Defense played spectacular. But,
• 5:30
Speaker 6: you know, defense was on the field for the whole
• 5:32
Speaker 6: second half. So, again, it's one of them situations in
• 5:34
Speaker 6: which you're stepping up in competition. You pretty much played
• 5:37
Speaker 6: an even game outside of that third quarter. So they're
• 5:42
Speaker 6: going into this bye week and then going on, you know,
• 5:45
Speaker 6: onto the season. You're looking at that game like, yeah,
• 5:47
Speaker 6: we was competitive physically. So, again, you lost the game.
• 5:50
Speaker 6: But it's a positive outcome. You only lost 29 to 9.
• 5:54
Speaker 5: And it depends on which side of the money game
• 5:56
Speaker 5: you're on. I mean, if you lose, you try to
• 5:59
Speaker 5: take the positives out of it because you kind of
• 6:02
Speaker 5: expected that loss. But then you try to find, you know,
• 6:05
Speaker 5: some good things to come out of the loss. Also,
• 6:09
Speaker 5: I just want to throw out the stats from the
• 6:11
Speaker 5: game that WVU, they had a pretty strong rushing attack
• 6:15
Speaker 5: against– Coastal Carolina, they had 281 rushing yards, and they
• 6:21
Speaker 5: held Coastal to 52 rushing yards. So those are pretty good.
• 6:24
  Speaker 4: That's huge.
• 6:25
Speaker 5: That's pretty good stats. I think the crowd was a
• 6:28
Speaker 5: little– the score was a little closer than they'd like
• 6:31
Speaker 5: for it to be, of course. But like you said,
• 6:34
Speaker 5: fans want to blow out every game, so we can't
• 6:37
Speaker 5: put much stock in that. Okay, so let's look at
• 6:40
Speaker 5: what happened with the Penn State Nittany Lions versus the
• 6:43
Speaker 5: Marshall University Thundering Herd. The final score was PSU 45
• 6:49
Speaker 5: and MU 0. Goose egg. Goose egg. Penn State just
• 6:54
Speaker 5: totally dominated the game. They shut out the herd. They
• 6:57
Speaker 5: gained 487 total yards of offense compared to just 147
• 7:02
Speaker 5: total yards for Marshall.
• 7:05
Speaker 3: Let me just say this. And then, Hollis, before I
• 7:08
Speaker 3: go any further, I want to see what you're saying,
• 7:10
Speaker 3: and then I'll follow you. But when I was at
• 7:14
Speaker 3: Marshall– My rookie season or freshman season, we played Mississippi State.
• 7:21
Speaker 3: And Mississippi State had just beaten Alabama. And we were
• 7:27
Speaker 3: going down there and playing them there.
• 7:32
  Speaker 8: And of.
• 7:35
Speaker 3: Any of my college games, I remember that one. so
• 7:41
Speaker 3: much better than any other game because it literally felt
• 7:47
Speaker 3: like when you're on that side of the ball to
• 7:51
  Speaker 3: where it's a game, because I didn't know anything about
• 7:55
Speaker 3: what was happening. We were going to get some money
• 7:57
Speaker 3: for this game and that's going to help the program.
• 8:00
  Speaker 3: I'm thinking it's this game, it's us against them. We're
• 8:04
Speaker 3: going to win and let's just go play. I'm a freshman.
• 8:08
Speaker 3: I don't know anything about any of that. And I mean,
• 8:14
Speaker 3: it was the first time ever in my football career
• 8:18
Speaker 3: that I really could actually see We have no chance
• 8:22
  Speaker 3: in this.
• 8:24
Speaker 4: Like, we're, you know, we're not.
• 8:28
Speaker 5: That was a rude awakening for you as a freshman,
• 8:30
  Speaker 5: wasn't it?
• 8:31
  Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
• 8:31
  Speaker 4: I'm like thinking.
• 8:32
Speaker 5: These guys are huge, right?
• 8:33
Speaker 8: Why are we here?
• 8:35
Speaker 4: Why are we here?
• 8:36
Speaker 5: Who got this game?
• 8:38
Speaker 4: They're not in our conference. And, you know, and I'm
• 8:41
Speaker 4: out and, you know, and I'm playing safeties and I'm
• 8:44
Speaker 4: making a A ton of tackles. And I'm like thinking,
• 8:48
Speaker 4: what is happening? What is happening?
• 8:51
Speaker 3: And it took me years to actually be able to
• 8:55
Speaker 3: understand what happened in those early weeks of the season.
• 9:00
Speaker 4: Teams are playing teams that they know they can beat.
• 9:04
Speaker 3: And if they took it easy on us, I have
• 9:07
Speaker 3: no idea because I know that I made a ton
• 9:11
Speaker 3: of tackles and it was just, and I really tried
• 9:18
Speaker 3: my best learning that process and playing some of those
• 9:23
Speaker 3: games at State. You know, we played Marshall, but Coach
• 9:28
Speaker 3: Pruitt was the head coach. Sure. So I wasn't going
• 9:33
Speaker 3: to really– I knew we weren't going to really– he
• 9:35
Speaker 3: wasn't going to do anything damaging to us, you know,
• 9:38
Speaker 3: and he would sub as quick as possible. And that's why,
• 9:46
Speaker 3: you know, we went down to Marshall to play.
• 9:51
Speaker 4: The herd because it was the only way to– To
• 9:55
  Speaker 4: do that.
• 9:56
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 9:56
Speaker 4: You know, so... And how.
• 10:01
Speaker 3: Hollis, do you, I don't even know if we can
• 10:04
Speaker 3: even talk about what it's like and really be able
• 10:09
Speaker 3: to explain it on the field about it. You know,
• 10:15
Speaker 3: like how do you even explain that experience when you're
• 10:18
Speaker 3: on the, on the field of what it really is.
• 10:22
Speaker 5: Oh, my goodness. I mean, I don't know. Hollis, can
• 10:24
Speaker 5: you explain what that's like? I mean, have you been
• 10:26
  Speaker 5: in that situation?
• 10:27
  Speaker 6: I mean, it's kind of a– it's not a good feeling,
• 10:30
Speaker 6: you know, when you're just getting, you know, bashed in.
• 10:33
Speaker 6: But I think with Marshall, I mean, it's one of
• 10:35
Speaker 6: them situations kind of– Marshall's a tricky one because they've
• 10:39
Speaker 6: gone into these environments and they've actually beaten these teams.
• 10:42
Speaker 6: You know, they've beaten Virginia Tech. They've beaten Notre Dame recently.
• 10:46
Speaker 6: So for them– I could see how this could be
• 10:49
Speaker 6: a letdown. And I think that, you know, you want
• 10:52
Speaker 6: to be able offensively just to pit up some points.
• 10:55
Speaker 5: In a game like this. That's the thing I think
• 10:56
  Speaker 5: is bothering people.
• 10:57
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 10:57
Speaker 6: So maybe you don't, you know, maybe you get beat,
• 11:00
Speaker 6: but maybe you could pit up two, three touchdowns.
• 11:03
Speaker 5: Or even a field goal would have been acceptable.
• 11:07
Speaker 4: Do we, do we, do we, is somebody questioning the coaching? Nah.
• 11:12
Speaker 4: Because I don't think you throw away the game.
• 11:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, there's one thing that is concerning that I'm going
• 11:17
Speaker 5: to throw out there because we knew it was a
• 11:18
Speaker 5: David and Goliath type of situation. We knew that going in.
• 11:21
Speaker 5: But there is one statistic that's kind of concerning, knowing
• 11:25
Speaker 5: that we're going next week, you know, facing Middle Tennessee
• 11:28
Speaker 5: State at home, which I'm planning on going to that game.
• 11:30
Speaker 5: I'm kind of excited. But they struggled with the third
• 11:33
Speaker 5: down and they only converted one out of 12 attempts
• 11:38
Speaker 5: on third down. So, you know, quarterback Carlos Del Rio Wilson,
• 11:43
Speaker 5: he was under constant pressure by the Nittany line defense. So,
• 11:48
Speaker 5: you know, is the blame more on the quarterback or
• 11:50
Speaker 5: the offensive line? Probably the offensive line was overpowered.
• 11:54
Speaker 4: Yes, I was going to say that.
• 11:58
Speaker 5: But still, that's quite a few third downs that you
• 12:02
  Speaker 5: did not make.
• 12:02
  Speaker 3: And I think it's– I know for a fact that
• 12:06
Speaker 3: it's challenging to make calls– whether they're offense or defense,
• 12:13
Speaker 3: and you can't win up front.
• 12:15
Speaker 5: But if you're making second down, you're making it to
• 12:19
Speaker 5: third down, you're obviously getting at least 10 yards to get,
• 12:22
Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying? And then you get to
• 12:24
Speaker 5: third down and you can't convert it to first downs.
• 12:30
  Speaker 4: That's a problem.
• 12:32
Speaker 3: It is, but I think if we're looking at the opponent,
• 12:37
Speaker 3: the opponent may be, the major issue behind that. I don't,
• 12:45
Speaker 3: and I'm sure a hundred percent sure that this, this
• 12:48
Speaker 3: is simply because of a team that just was bigger, stronger, faster.
• 12:53
Speaker 5: And really the next week we'll tell the story when
• 12:56
Speaker 5: they're playing a team that's closer to their, their level,
• 12:59
Speaker 5: their NIL levels, their talent levels. You know, then if
• 13:03
Speaker 5: this is, if this happens again, if there's a repeat
• 13:06
Speaker 5: of the, this not being able to convert to first
• 13:08
Speaker 5: downs on third and, then you know that it's a
• 13:10
  Speaker 5: legitimate issue.
• 13:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you just throw this tape away.
• 13:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with you, Hollis, because I think there is
• 13:21
Speaker 3: a benefit for playing that game.
• 13:25
  Speaker 5: Sure.
• 13:25
Speaker 4: You got that benefit. Yeah, and that is the money.
• 13:28
Speaker 4: That's about it. And the other thing, if no one
• 13:32
Speaker 4: got hurt, that's even better.
• 13:35
Speaker 5: Not to my knowledge.
• 13:36
Speaker 4: So that was the perfect game. for them as far
• 13:41
  Speaker 4: as an opener.
• 13:42
Speaker 3: Yeah. So, do we want to get in any kind
• 13:49
Speaker 3: of detail actually with WVU?
• 13:52
Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, like I said, we just talked about
• 13:54
Speaker 5: that with Coastal Carolina and that they're going to play
• 13:57
Speaker 5: UT Martin at home. I think that their biggest challenge
• 14:00
Speaker 5: coming up is going to be going into Charlotte, neutral territory,
• 14:04
Speaker 5: and playing Virginia, number 25 Virginia. I think that's going
• 14:07
Speaker 5: to be a big marker for them because the following
• 14:11
Speaker 5: week they will play Oklahoma State. They will open Big
• 14:15
Speaker 5: 12 play. So that's going to be kind of the
• 14:21
Speaker 5: determining factor, I think, for fans is how well they
• 14:25
Speaker 5: show up to play the Cavaliers in Charlotte and what
• 14:28
Speaker 5: kind of game it turns out to be.
• 14:30
Speaker 4: Do we think it's competitive? Do we think it could
• 14:34
  Speaker 4: be competitive?
• 14:34
Speaker 5: I mean, it just depends. I mean, you know.
• 14:40
  Speaker 5: I don't know. I mean, we'll see how they play
• 14:42
Speaker 5: this week, too, against UT Martin. If they blow out
• 14:44
Speaker 5: UT Martin, then, you know, then we know they got
• 14:46
Speaker 5: a legitimate shot against Virginia. But I don't know.
• 14:49
Speaker 4: It'll be hard to tell.
• 14:50
Speaker 6: Like I said, even next week, I don't know if
• 14:53
Speaker 6: we'll have a real grasp on, you know, who they
• 14:55
Speaker 6: are and kind of what they got. It's really going
• 14:57
Speaker 6: to be dictated by that Virginia game. And once we
• 15:00
Speaker 6: get to that Virginia game, I think that first half
• 15:02
Speaker 6: will tell us probably more about who they are than
• 15:05
Speaker 6: these first two games even will.
• 15:07
  Speaker 2: Sure.
• 15:07
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 15:08
Speaker 3: Okay, so I'm going to switch really quick here. There's
• 15:13
Speaker 3: been a whole lot of conversation about referees and all
• 15:19
Speaker 3: of this kind of stuff that, you know, they're making
• 15:27
Speaker 3: these bad calls. And I'm trying to figure out, like,
• 15:32
Speaker 3: what prompts you to say, okay, there's one second left.
• 15:37
  Speaker 8: In a game.
• 15:38
Speaker 4: Like, where does that... So everybody is looking at the clock.
• 15:43
  Speaker 4: It's zero.
• 15:45
Speaker 3: And you blow the whistle and say, wait a minute,
• 15:50
Speaker 3: there's one second left.
• 15:54
Speaker 5: Did you watch it?
• 15:55
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 15:56
  Speaker 8: Oh.
• 15:57
Speaker 5: My husband went to bed. He thought that Western Michigan
• 16:00
Speaker 5: had upset Michigan, and then they added that second. I've
• 16:03
Speaker 5: got a little background. If you want me to give
• 16:04
Speaker 5: it on what happened, okay? Supposedly, this is the background. So,
• 16:09
Speaker 5: of course, we know that trailing late, Michigan threw a
• 16:11
Speaker 5: Hail Mary, right? It fell incomplete. There's something called a
• 16:17
Speaker 5: broadcast clock, and then there's also an embedded internal clock feed.
• 16:25
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 16:26
Speaker 5: That's that, that the referees use. So there's two different,
• 16:28
Speaker 5: according to what they're saying, there's two different clocks. So
• 16:31
Speaker 5: the ones that we, the one that we saw hit zero,
• 16:34
Speaker 5: the big 10 officials reviewed the play and they added
• 16:36
Speaker 5: one second back on the clock because, uh, the Michigan
• 16:41
Speaker 5: defender touched the ball out of bounds. So then of
• 16:45
Speaker 5: course they get the second put back on the clock.
• 16:47
Speaker 5: And then the second Hail Mary, you know, happened to it,
• 16:50
Speaker 5: it was successful. So the reason the big 10, you know,
• 16:53
Speaker 5: that the officials, uh, They made this they didn't say
• 16:57
Speaker 5: it was a mistake because they they rejected overturning the
• 17:02
Speaker 5: outcome of the game. Right. The Mac appealed it. But
• 17:05
Speaker 5: they said that from now on that, you know, we
• 17:10
Speaker 5: have to go by the broadcast clock. There was a
• 17:12
Speaker 5: precedent set now with the NCAA. You can't have this internal,
• 17:18
Speaker 5: you know, television or internal kind of clock to use
• 17:21
Speaker 5: during reviews. You have to base it on what is
• 17:23
  Speaker 5: on the field.
• 17:24
Speaker 6: Okay, so we have to go by the broadcast clock
• 17:26
Speaker 6: or the internal clock?
• 17:27
Speaker 5: No, you have to go by the broadcast clock. Let
• 17:29
Speaker 5: me see. It said, from now on, all future, the
• 17:32
Speaker 5: adjustments on replays to rely on the broadcast program feeds clock.
• 17:36
Speaker 5: There's no more internal. I didn't even know there was
• 17:39
Speaker 5: such a thing, guys.
• 17:40
  Speaker 4: I've been a player for a long time. Hollis, you've
• 17:42
Speaker 4: been a player for a long time? It sounds weak.
• 17:45
Speaker 3: Never heard of anything like that. I know there's a
• 17:48
Speaker 3: lot of people keeping the– there's a clock running– Here, there,
• 17:52
Speaker 3: multiple places. But I always thought the game clock was
• 17:56
  Speaker 3: the clock.
• 17:57
Speaker 6: But I also will say, like, there are situations in which, again,
• 18:01
Speaker 6: and again, I'm not sure which clock they're looking at
• 18:04
Speaker 6: in this situation, but there are situations in just normal
• 18:06
  Speaker 6: replay where they'll.
• 18:08
Speaker 4: Pit more time or take time off, things of that nature.
• 18:11
Speaker 4: So that, so that does happen. Yes.
• 18:13
Speaker 6: But they never articulated whether that's game clock or broadcast
• 18:17
  Speaker 6: clock or.
• 18:18
  Speaker 4: Watch or whatever.
• 18:19
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 18:19
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 18:19
Speaker 4: That's never, that's never come out of the title of
• 18:22
Speaker 4: the clock. Yeah. Now, which makes me say, Oh.
• 18:27
Speaker 3: Which makes me say is I'm thinking that's ugly. I mean,
• 18:33
Speaker 3: you're never going to convince me that there was a
• 18:36
Speaker 3: justifiable reason to put a second on the clock.
• 18:40
Speaker 5: I didn't even understand the penalty. Help me understand that.
• 18:43
  Speaker 4: I don't think there was a penalty.
• 18:45
Speaker 5: Well, they said the defender, the Western Michigan defender, touched
• 18:49
Speaker 5: the ball out of bounds.
• 18:52
Speaker 6: Did he go out of bounds and then he touched
• 18:54
Speaker 6: the ball? Because you can't do that. That's what they're saying.
• 18:58
Speaker 6: So if you step out of bounds and then you
• 19:00
Speaker 6: come back and touch the ball. That was the call.
• 19:02
Speaker 6: Whatever you call that.
• 19:03
Speaker 5: You can't do that.
• 19:04
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 19:04
Speaker 5: But the problem is.
• 19:06
Speaker 4: Even offense player can't do that.
• 19:07
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 19:07
Speaker 5: Well, okay. But even if that happened, if the clock
• 19:11
Speaker 5: had run out of time, then it wouldn't have mattered, right?
• 19:14
  Speaker 8: Right.
• 19:15
  Speaker 4: It shouldn't even be a quote. Well, it's a penalty.
• 19:17
Speaker 3: So there was a discrepancy. You can't end the game
• 19:19
Speaker 3: on a penalty. Well, you cannot end the game on
• 19:20
  Speaker 3: a penalty.
• 19:21
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 19:22
Speaker 5: I agree with that. But still, I mean, all the
• 19:24
Speaker 5: news outlets, everybody's at the consensus that Western Michigan was robbed.
• 19:29
Speaker 5: So I don't know about, you know, maybe this penalty.
• 19:32
Speaker 5: Maybe they're saying— The time had run out already.
• 19:35
Speaker 4: Already. Before it occurred.
• 19:38
Speaker 5: So that doesn't count.
• 19:39
Speaker 4: So it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
• 19:40
  Speaker 8: Right, right.
• 19:41
  Speaker 4: So I think that's what they're saying.
• 19:42
  Speaker 5: That's the problem.
• 19:43
Speaker 4: So it's not whether, because obviously that is a penalty
• 19:45
  Speaker 4: you cannot.
• 19:46
Speaker 5: But according to the referees, it happened with one second.
• 19:48
  Speaker 4: With one second.
• 19:49
Speaker 5: And that's why they took it. the second on the clock.
• 19:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the dispute. Which, I mean... And when you
• 19:54
Speaker 4: say the officials have the last call.
• 20:03
Speaker 4: Could somebody have overturned that? But let's take it from this, though.
• 20:07
  Speaker 5: It's the clock. It's clocking.
• 20:09
  Speaker 4: It's clocking.
• 20:10
  Speaker 5: I'm telling you.
• 20:11
Speaker 6: I think we got to look at it like this.
• 20:13
Speaker 6: Western Michigan beating Michigan is not good for college football.
• 20:20
Speaker 5: I want to go down this rabbit hole with Hollis
• 20:22
Speaker 5: because I'm listening. I am listening. I am with him totally.
• 20:28
Speaker 4: I am with him. You cannot have that be an
• 20:33
Speaker 4: opening game. Not at a program.
• 20:36
Speaker 5: Not at the big house. No.
• 20:37
Speaker 4: Not at all. They just won a championship, what, two
• 20:39
  Speaker 4: years ago?
• 20:40
  Speaker 3: Yep.
• 20:40
  Speaker 4: Right?
• 20:41
Speaker 6: And then you're going to have, again, because remember, they
• 20:44
Speaker 6: lost to App State back in the day.
• 20:45
Speaker 4: We remember that. Yeah. So, again, these things happen.
• 20:49
Speaker 3: But when you have an in-state school like, you know,
• 20:54
Speaker 3: a Western Michigan beating a powerhouse like Michigan– That just
• 20:58
Speaker 3: may not be like, look, this ain't good for us.
• 21:01
Speaker 5: But this isn't a good look for college football either.
• 21:04
Speaker 4: But this ain't either. So you're right. Which is worse?
• 21:07
Speaker 3: The look from the public or the internal?
• 21:13
Speaker 5: I mean, for me, I think the scrutiny that they're
• 21:16
Speaker 5: under right now is worse because they're already being accused
• 21:19
Speaker 5: of so many different things. things with the nio and
• 21:23
Speaker 5: the transfer portal and how you know how dirty that
• 21:26
Speaker 5: collegiate sports has become and then this just adds another
• 21:28
Speaker 5: this just adds a black eye to it and.
• 21:30
Speaker 6: Then it almost admitted their fault because now they're saying
• 21:34
Speaker 6: well we're not going by that internal clock so it's
• 21:36
Speaker 6: like you're almost kind of admitting there's something.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: What is it something shady happened yeah.
• 21:43
Speaker 5: Yeah i mean for them to say that right you
• 21:45
Speaker 5: say that well I'll tell you what happened this past–
• 21:47
Speaker 5: I think whenever they released the college coaches' football poll,
• 21:51
Speaker 5: they dropped completely out of the top 25. They were
• 21:55
Speaker 5: ranked– what was they, 17?
• 21:57
  Speaker 3: 16.
• 21:58
Speaker 5: They were ranked 16, and they're done.
• 22:00
Speaker 4: You're going to have to fight your way back if
• 22:02
  Speaker 4: you're Michigan.
• 22:03
Speaker 5: But that's a big drop, isn't it? And they won.
• 22:05
  Speaker 4: That's a big drop.
• 22:07
Speaker 5: Well, yeah. But, I mean, even– you give grace the
• 22:11
Speaker 5: first game, but I think people realize, the coaches realize
• 22:15
Speaker 5: there was– something not right with that game. The whole
• 22:19
Speaker 5: clock thing just made no sense.
• 22:21
Speaker 8: Is this one of the issues of bringing in more
• 22:24
Speaker 8: technology to the game where now we're using a chip
• 22:28
Speaker 8: in the football to measure the first down marker as
• 22:31
Speaker 8: opposed to the old chain method where you bring the
• 22:33
  Speaker 8: chain gang out?
• 22:34
Speaker 4: See, I'm scared. I'm scared of all that kind of stuff.
• 22:39
  Speaker 4: Me too.
• 22:40
Speaker 3: Because I know... Let's say it's not flawed, okay? Which
• 22:47
Speaker 3: I can't imagine nothing being not flawed. I would much
• 22:52
Speaker 3: rather have something on the field, somebody call it on
• 22:58
Speaker 3: the field, an official call it on the field, than
• 23:01
Speaker 3: I would go into some.
• 23:05
Speaker 4: Other source. I'm just too old school.
• 23:08
Speaker 8: This is one of my issues. I'm real mixed on this.
• 23:12
Speaker 8: Major League Baseball, for example, you can challenge an umpire's
• 23:16
Speaker 8: call on a strike or a ball. The catcher can
• 23:20
Speaker 8: call it. The batter can call it. If you don't
• 23:23
Speaker 8: like that call, you can challenge it, and you can
• 23:25
Speaker 8: either win or lose.
• 23:26
Speaker 4: You get two a game.
• 23:27
Speaker 8: On the one hand, I think that's good because it
• 23:29
Speaker 8: holds the umpires accountable. It makes them call a good game,
• 23:33
Speaker 8: or it shows how bad they are at it. But
• 23:36
Speaker 8: on the other side, it's just like that human element.
• 23:40
Speaker 8: I mean, that has been a widely accepted part of
• 23:42
Speaker 8: the game for decades. Same here in football. It's just like.
• 23:45
  Speaker 4: I agree 100%.
• 23:47
Speaker 8: You're using manual ways of measurement. Just stick to that.
• 23:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, we don't need more than one clock. I mean,
• 23:55
Speaker 5: I don't understand why you would have a different clock
• 23:57
Speaker 5: than the one everyone's watching. You know what I mean?
• 24:00
  Speaker 5: That's just a problem.
• 24:02
Speaker 8: Broadcast clock used to be there was one camera in
• 24:05
Speaker 8: the stadium that was fixed on the physical clock, and
• 24:07
Speaker 8: you would have that bug in the bottom, and it
• 24:09
Speaker 8: was just a camera feed of the actual clock in
• 24:12
Speaker 8: the stadium. Now it's probably a digital system where the
• 24:15
Speaker 8: broadcast is plugged into the guy running the score up
• 24:20
Speaker 8: in the press box. So that should still be in sync.
• 24:24
Speaker 8: But if they've got like a whole separate official's clock,
• 24:28
  Speaker 8: who's doing that?
• 24:29
Speaker 5: And how long has that been happening?
• 24:31
  Speaker 8: Well, that's a great question.
• 24:32
Speaker 5: You know, I mean, I think that deserves an answer.
• 24:35
Speaker 5: How long have they had a separate clock like this?
• 24:37
Speaker 5: Because it just stands to reason if, you know, if
• 24:41
Speaker 5: we've got different clocks going, they're going to get out
• 24:43
Speaker 5: of sync from time to time.
• 24:44
  Speaker 4: 100%.
• 24:45
Speaker 5: So what's been going on? There's been problems before. I
• 24:48
Speaker 5: guarantee it if this has been.
• 24:49
Speaker 3: And isn't it crazy that nobody in this room... in
• 24:53
Speaker 3: both rooms, even knew that there was another clock.
• 24:57
  Speaker 8: No.
• 24:58
Speaker 3: I always assumed that the scoreboard was the clock.
• 25:05
  Speaker 5: Right.
• 25:05
Speaker 3: And I assumed that the officials' clocks were locked to that.
• 25:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, personally, I don't know if there was another clock.
• 25:14
Speaker 4: I'm team Hollis. They had to find a way out
• 25:16
Speaker 4: of that. They had to. So you're going all the
• 25:19
Speaker 4: way to hard quarter.
• 25:20
Speaker 6: They just making it up. I don't know about that
• 25:22
Speaker 6: other clock. I mean, again, I've been watching football for
• 25:24
Speaker 6: 30-plus years. We got a lot of football watching, playing
• 25:28
Speaker 6: experience in these two rooms, and ain't.
• 25:31
Speaker 4: Nobody ever heard of that. I mean, again, we heard
• 25:33
Speaker 4: of picking time back on the clock for sure. Yes, yes, yes.
• 25:36
Speaker 6: We've heard of that. Right, but ain't nobody ever heard
• 25:39
Speaker 6: of three different, five different clocks. The only other clock
• 25:42
Speaker 6: you really heard of is that you have the scoreboard
• 25:44
Speaker 6: clock and then the officials will keep time on a
• 25:46
Speaker 6: watch just in case something happens with the play clock.
• 25:49
Speaker 5: And don't they sometimes stop and say, we got to
• 25:51
Speaker 5: adjust to make sure that they're in sync, like something happens.
• 25:54
Speaker 4: So let's assume, why didn't they do that?
• 25:57
Speaker 6: And again, and again, and I'll say this though, there
• 25:59
Speaker 6: could be something as far as broadcasting and all that
• 26:02
Speaker 6: sort of thing, clocks and all that. But what I'm
• 26:05
Speaker 6: saying is that I think if you poll anybody who's
• 26:08
Speaker 6: watched football for 20 plus years or more at all levels,
• 26:11
Speaker 6: we ain't never heard of that.
• 26:12
Speaker 4: So there you go.
• 26:14
Speaker 5: And, you know, the other side of it, too, guys,
• 26:15
Speaker 5: I want to get your opinion on this. Really, the
• 26:18
Speaker 5: NCAA did not have a choice on overturning the win
• 26:22
Speaker 5: because think of the president.
• 26:24
Speaker 4: They had to keep it.
• 26:25
Speaker 5: They have to keep it like it is. I mean,
• 26:27
Speaker 5: even though it's blatantly wrong. They can't have these teams
• 26:31
Speaker 5: doing this, you know, on a regular basis.
• 26:33
Speaker 6: I don't think we'll see Western Michigan and Michigan playing
• 26:36
  Speaker 6: anytime soon.
• 26:37
Speaker 5: I would think not.
• 26:38
Speaker 4: I think that's serious. Well, let me– okay. That's over.
• 26:42
Speaker 4: I want to know why you say that. I ain't
• 26:44
  Speaker 4: doing that.
• 26:45
Speaker 6: I mean, you can't have an in-state school– Like I said,
• 26:48
Speaker 6: you just can't do that if you're Michigan.
• 26:51
Speaker 3: Imagine Marshall and WVU playing and that happening in their game.
• 26:55
  Speaker 6: That's a different– because I think I would say Marshall
• 26:57
Speaker 6: and WVU are a little bit more closely probably on talent,
• 27:01
Speaker 6: and that's a little bit different. But I think when
• 27:04
Speaker 6: you have a clear power for a clear Michigan and
• 27:07
Speaker 6: you're playing a clear lesser opponent, you cannot have that
• 27:11
  Speaker 6: point blank.
• 27:12
Speaker 3: So you think it's worse if it's against an opponent
• 27:17
Speaker 3: that– May not be at your level.
• 27:21
Speaker 6: Marshall has some name branding. Marshall is an established university
• 27:26
Speaker 6: as far as football and athletics is concerned. They've done
• 27:29
Speaker 6: things at a national level. Western Michigan isn't. Not to
• 27:33
Speaker 6: hate on Western Michigan, but they're not. So you can't have,
• 27:37
Speaker 6: if you're Michigan, you can't have your premier university.
• 27:40
Speaker 5: Lose to Western Michigan, a Mac, a Mac school, a
• 27:45
Speaker 5: mid American conference school, just not happening, not happening. So
• 27:49
Speaker 5: moving on, I guess.
• 27:50
Speaker 4: Well, yeah, they're, they're really aware of the clocks. Yes.
• 27:55
Speaker 3: And, and, and I'll say this, I believe there's going
• 27:59
Speaker 3: to be more conversation about this coming up.
• 28:03
  Speaker 4: I don't think it's going to, I don't, I don't
• 28:05
  Speaker 4: see this.
• 28:06
Speaker 3: I don't, I could see why they would want to
• 28:08
Speaker 3: kill it and stop talking about it.
• 28:11
Speaker 5: I think this time of year they'll move on to
• 28:12
Speaker 5: the next controversy because there's going to be plenty. It's
• 28:15
Speaker 5: NCAA football, you know. I mean, something else will take
• 28:18
  Speaker 5: its place.
• 28:19
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 28:23
Speaker 3: Well, so this is kind of an odd topic here,
• 28:25
Speaker 3: and I'm going to throw this out there. Because I
• 28:30
Speaker 3: guess somebody in the group, I guess, we got on
• 28:34
Speaker 3: this conversation about– The Super Bowl.
• 28:39
Speaker 4: And taxes that they take.
• 28:42
Speaker 3: And what people don't understand is, like, trust me, as
• 28:47
Speaker 3: a football player, former football player who's not making anywhere
• 28:50
Speaker 3: close to what they're making now, taxes were, like, it
• 28:57
Speaker 3: was unbelievable. Like, you get $ 20. Your checks for $ 20,
• 29:01
Speaker 3: you're taking home five. Like, everything else is like taxes.
• 29:06
Speaker 3: It's like, what is going on? I'm trying to figure
• 29:09
Speaker 3: out what, like, and I don't even know if I
• 29:14
Speaker 3: ever thought about taxes in those games because you get
• 29:17
Speaker 3: paid for every playoff game, you know, a certain amount.
• 29:20
Speaker 3: Each playoff game you win, you get whatever amount of money.
• 29:23
Speaker 3: I don't know what that is now. And then so
• 29:26
Speaker 3: the Super Bowl, you get– You get that amount. I
• 29:30
Speaker 3: don't know if I ever really thought about the taxes
• 29:32
Speaker 3: in that. But now, if you're now going to say.
• 29:39
Speaker 5: Okay, so everything. if you're Sam Darnold, you do.
• 29:42
Speaker 3: Everywhere you– and I've known that for a while. Wherever
• 29:47
Speaker 3: you play your away games, they have taxes. So jock tax. Yes.
• 29:53
Speaker 3: So Texas obviously is one of those places that– can
• 30:00
Speaker 3: hit you pretty deep in your pocket.
• 30:04
Speaker 5: California is the worst, right?
• 30:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, Texas doesn't have state tax.
• 30:07
  Speaker 5: Do they not?
• 30:08
Speaker 4: Okay, so yeah, California, I'm sorry.
• 30:11
Speaker 3: So when you play out there, that's a problem. I mean,
• 30:18
Speaker 3: how would you like to win the NFC championship game?
• 30:23
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 30:23
  Speaker 4: Playing in California.
• 30:24
  Speaker 5: I know.
• 30:25
Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden when you get that check,
• 30:27
Speaker 3: you thought it was going to– because it says winning
• 30:30
Speaker 3: this game is this amount of money, blah, blah, blah, blah.
• 30:32
Speaker 4: You ain't getting none of that.
• 30:33
Speaker 5: I know, right? So this is what happened to Seahawks
• 30:36
Speaker 5: quarterback Sam Darnold. I looked up the numbers today. He
• 30:40
Speaker 5: goes to the Super Bowl last year in California, and
• 30:43
Speaker 5: after winning the Super Bowl, his bonus is $ 178, 000, right,
• 30:48
Speaker 5: from the NFL. So because out-of-state players accumulate, it's called
• 30:53
Speaker 5: incremental duty days. So let's say you get there a
• 30:57
Speaker 5: week out from the Super Bowl. Then the state tax bill,
• 31:01
Speaker 5: you know, starts– Accumulating then, okay, from the very first
• 31:05
Speaker 5: day you arrive to play the game. It doesn't just
• 31:07
Speaker 5: count on game day.
• 31:08
Speaker 4: Which could be a week or two weeks.
• 31:10
Speaker 5: Probably a week, at least a week.
• 31:11
Speaker 4: It could be two weeks.
• 31:12
Speaker 5: It could be two, right? So Sam Darnall receives his
• 31:15
Speaker 5: bonus of $ 178, 000, and then he's told by the state
• 31:16
Speaker 5: of California that his estimated tax is.
• 31:22
Speaker 5: Income tax is going to be one hundred and ninety
• 31:24
Speaker 5: eight to two hundred and forty nine thousand dollars estimated.
• 31:29
Speaker 5: So it's twenty thousand dollars taxes more than what he
• 31:33
Speaker 5: was paid. That's crazy.
• 31:35
Speaker 6: And I think the conversation is like from the. player
• 31:39
Speaker 6: standpoint at what point do you tell like the nfl
• 31:42
Speaker 6: like look we don't want to do this exactly in
• 31:44
Speaker 6: california or states that are taxed this heavily because this
• 31:48
Speaker 6: doesn't this isn't necessarily like the mode of operandus for
• 31:51
Speaker 6: all states like if you go to florida if you
• 31:53
Speaker 6: go to vegas if you go to texas they don't
• 31:55
Speaker 6: necessarily have this or at least to this level so
• 31:59
Speaker 6: again i'm and again when you're playing in the super
• 32:01
Speaker 6: bowl privilege and i'm sure there's other benefits that come
• 32:04
Speaker 6: with it so i'm sure he kind of cleared a
• 32:06
Speaker 6: check somewhere oh i'm sure but At the same time,
• 32:09
Speaker 6: as far as that game check is concerned, I wouldn't
• 32:12
Speaker 6: want to necessarily look up and then owe them money
• 32:15
  Speaker 6: for playing it.
• 32:15
Speaker 4: That's kind of ridiculous. I mean, even if you like
• 32:19
  Speaker 4: even by.
• 32:20
Speaker 6: Kind of understanding the jocks tax from, you know, an
• 32:23
Speaker 6: ancillary view, the way in which they get taxed is
• 32:27
Speaker 6: kind of crazy because you get taxed. Your home state,
• 32:30
Speaker 6: you get taxed from where you play the games at.
• 32:32
Speaker 6: It's just kind of like I think maybe they need
• 32:34
Speaker 6: to do something. Again, we ain't crying for millionaires, obviously,
• 32:39
Speaker 6: but it seems like it's just a lot of taxing
• 32:42
  Speaker 6: going on.
• 32:43
Speaker 5: Well, if California wants to– and they've traditionally hosted a
• 32:47
Speaker 5: lot of Super Bowls in the past. If they want
• 32:49
Speaker 5: to continue that, maybe they need to look at an
• 32:51
Speaker 5: exemption for some of these players or lower it a
• 32:53
  Speaker 5: little bit.
• 32:54
Speaker 3: Well, what's going to happen is they're going to either–
• 32:57
Speaker 3: Going to be forced into that or those games won't
• 33:00
  Speaker 3: be played there.
• 33:01
  Speaker 5: That's what I would think.
• 33:02
Speaker 4: Yeah. And here's the thing.
• 33:05
Speaker 3: If Hollis is in, quote, administrative part of the NFL,
• 33:10
Speaker 3: he can't be mad at me and other players because
• 33:12
Speaker 3: we don't want to play in California because we don't
• 33:14
Speaker 3: want to be taxed that way.
• 33:16
Speaker 4: We can go somewhere else. It's only fair.
• 33:19
Speaker 6: He ain't going to fight that. But you ain't going
• 33:21
Speaker 6: to also fight not playing. You're going to play in
• 33:23
  Speaker 6: the Super Bowl.
• 33:23
Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. I mean, it's not going to deter you
• 33:25
  Speaker 5: from it.
• 33:25
Speaker 6: So if they want it in California, it's going to
• 33:27
Speaker 6: be in California. Because you ain't protesting the Super Bowl.
• 33:30
Speaker 6: You're not going to not play. Okay, I'm going to
• 33:34
  Speaker 6: say this.
• 33:36
Speaker 3: We'll hear a change about it before there'll be another
• 33:40
  Speaker 3: Super Bowl game.
• 33:42
  Speaker 1: There.
• 33:43
Speaker 6: I mean, I think we, like I said, it's on the,
• 33:45
Speaker 6: you know, it's kind of out there now. So, I mean, again,
• 33:48
Speaker 6: I just think it's, you know, again, we're not crying
• 33:50
Speaker 6: for millionaires, you know, but at the same time.
• 33:53
Speaker 5: It doesn't seem right, though.
• 33:53
Speaker 6: Yeah, nobody wants to be, like, the biggest game of
• 33:57
Speaker 6: your life, and now you owe money. You got to
• 33:59
  Speaker 6: pay to play.
• 33:59
Speaker 8: Shouldn't this be a role for the Players Association when
• 34:02
  Speaker 8: they negotiate?
• 34:03
  Speaker 4: I don't know what they're doing.
• 34:04
Speaker 8: How do you have a net negative tax policy? That's
• 34:07
  Speaker 8: just crazy.
• 34:08
  Speaker 4: That's insane. Yeah.
• 34:10
  Speaker 3: And.
• 34:12
Speaker 3: For the Players Association, I'm not sure personally. Like, there
• 34:18
Speaker 3: has been some great things that have been accomplished over
• 34:23
Speaker 3: the time of getting into football to today.
• 34:27
Speaker 4: But there are some really important things.
• 34:32
Speaker 3: I don't want to call them small, but important things
• 34:34
Speaker 3: to current players and former players that we would love
• 34:38
Speaker 3: to have happen. Those conversations are not taking place. To me,
• 34:47
Speaker 3: there's not enough conversation about former injured players.
• 34:52
Speaker 4: There's just not enough.
• 34:54
Speaker 8: You're talking about like head injuries.
• 34:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, like head injuries. Anything that could make you be–
• 35:02
  Speaker 4: You can't walk.
• 35:03
Speaker 3: You can't do these types of things because it's not
• 35:06
Speaker 3: all– because we're caught up in CTE right now, but
• 35:10
Speaker 3: there are other players who are struggling not.
• 35:13
Speaker 4: Because of CTE but because of just a physical injury.
• 35:16
Speaker 5: Once you retire from the league, Carl, do you have to, like,
• 35:20
Speaker 5: leave the Players Association or is that something you're in
• 35:22
  Speaker 5: for a lifetime?
• 35:23
Speaker 3: You're in it, but there are very few– actually, the
• 35:28
Speaker 3: guy who– John Randall is– is a rep, he's a
• 35:34
  Speaker 3: Viking rep.
• 35:36
  Speaker 5: For the players?
• 35:37
Speaker 3: To the Players Association for us.
• 35:40
  Speaker 5: For retired players?
• 35:41
Speaker 4: For retired players, for the Vikings.
• 35:44
  Speaker 5: Right, right.
• 35:44
  Speaker 8: Okay?
• 35:45
Speaker 3: Now, there's two things that I would say to that.
• 35:50
Speaker 3: I would like to think he understands the fight. You know,
• 35:54
Speaker 3: I would like to think he understands the fight. But
• 35:57
Speaker 3: the other piece of it is I don't know if
• 35:59
Speaker 3: he knows the urgency of the fight because of his situation.
• 36:04
Speaker 3: And again, you're talking about a walk-on guy who ends
• 36:07
Speaker 3: up becoming a Hall of Famer and one of the
• 36:10
  Speaker 3: greatest players ever.
• 36:11
  Speaker 5: Right.
• 36:14
Speaker 4: I don't know if he still remembers the lower end
• 36:17
  Speaker 4: of that.
• 36:19
Speaker 5: Well, and he also is an employee of the Players Association. Exactly.
• 36:22
Speaker 5: So that's who he needs to, you know.
• 36:25
  Speaker 4: Think about.
• 36:26
Speaker 3: But you've got to hear players' stories. You've got to hear.
• 36:31
Speaker 3: You have to. I'm looking for a guy who is
• 36:35
Speaker 3: going to be willing to. Let's say we have a
• 36:37
Speaker 3: Viking event and a bunch of guys come up. I
• 36:41
Speaker 3: want that guy to be able to come and sit.
• 36:43
Speaker 3: And say, hey, guys, let's get together and have a conversation.
• 36:45
Speaker 3: Let's talk about what you need, what you want, some of.
• 36:48
Speaker 4: Those kind of things.
• 36:49
Speaker 6: I think the players' associations have got to remember who
• 36:51
Speaker 6: they work for. They don't work for the NFL anymore.
• 36:54
Speaker 6: They work for the players. And the players' association, in
• 36:57
Speaker 6: my purview, does not do a good job enough advocating
• 37:01
  Speaker 6: strongly for.
• 37:02
Speaker 4: The union in which they represent.
• 37:04
Speaker 6: Too often, I think they feel like they still– because
• 37:10
Speaker 6: it just feels like they think they still work for
• 37:13
Speaker 6: the league. That's not the job. The job is to
• 37:16
Speaker 6: advocate for the players. So that means you've got to
• 37:19
Speaker 6: advocate for big things. You've got to advocate for the
• 37:21
  Speaker 6: little BS things.
• 37:22
Speaker 4: That might be a waste of time.
• 37:23
Speaker 3: And part of that, too, though, is– A lot of
• 37:28
Speaker 3: those guys are, quote, former big-time players.
• 37:32
Speaker 6: And that's what I'm saying. You don't necessarily need those
• 37:35
Speaker 6: guys to run the ship all the time. You need
• 37:37
Speaker 6: the smartest guys to do that.
• 37:39
Speaker 3: What happens, though, is those guys are the ones who,
• 37:43
Speaker 3: for whatever reason, run. And when you have that name
• 37:48
Speaker 3: that's there— oh, okay, yeah, he ought to be able to.
• 37:52
Speaker 4: Do, you know, he should do some good stuff for it,
• 37:54
Speaker 4: but it don't work that way.
• 37:55
Speaker 5: So has the Players Association ever been challenged by, like,
• 37:58
Speaker 5: another type of union? Like, has there ever been, like,
• 38:01
Speaker 5: another organization come in and try to, like, recruit players
• 38:05
Speaker 5: to come to them and say, hey, we'll do a
• 38:06
Speaker 5: better job? You know, because it seems like in most
• 38:10
Speaker 5: worlds of work, you know, there's more than one union
• 38:13
Speaker 5: out there competing to get, You know, people to join. And,
• 38:17
Speaker 5: you know, even I've not known.
• 38:19
Speaker 4: I've not known of any.
• 38:21
Speaker 5: It's not really considered a union. It's an association.
• 38:25
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 38:27
  Speaker 5: Or is it?
• 38:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's a union and quote an association
• 38:31
  Speaker 4: as well.
• 38:32
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 38:32
  Speaker 3: But.
• 38:34
Speaker 4: I don't know of any other source.
• 38:36
Speaker 5: Because once you get a monopoly like that, they get
• 38:39
Speaker 5: kind of comfortable. You know what I mean? Like we're
• 38:40
Speaker 5: the only game in town, so we can do whatever
• 38:43
  Speaker 5: we want.
• 38:43
  Speaker 3: And I think that's been what's happening. Whether it's things
• 38:48
Speaker 3: that we want to do as former players with our team.
• 38:53
Speaker 3: We think that there should be something going on. They
• 38:55
Speaker 3: should be doing this. I come to you and I
• 38:58
Speaker 3: tell you that. If you say to me, well, you know, Carl,
• 39:04
Speaker 3: I don't really think that they're going to be interested
• 39:06
Speaker 3: in doing something like that.
• 39:08
Speaker 4: Well, wait a minute.
• 39:09
Speaker 3: If I'm trying to say something for them to do,
• 39:12
Speaker 3: it's likely it's for players. Yes.
• 39:14
Speaker 4: It's not just for me.
• 39:15
Speaker 5: Not just me. Yeah.
• 39:16
Speaker 4: It's for other players who are likely.
• 39:18
Speaker 5: It's for the good of the group.
• 39:20
Speaker 3: You're going to shoot it down before you are willing
• 39:24
Speaker 3: to say, well, we need to let's talk about this
• 39:26
Speaker 3: so we can find the.
• 39:28
Speaker 4: Best way to go about it. and approach it. Don't
• 39:32
  Speaker 4: tell me no.
• 39:33
Speaker 6: And the thing is, looking at the website, this is
• 39:35
Speaker 6: what does the union do, talking about the NFLPA. The
• 39:39
Speaker 6: first thing listed on here is represent all players and
• 39:43
Speaker 6: matters concerning wages, hours, working conditions, protects their rights as
• 39:49
Speaker 6: professional football players. So, again, that's the first thing listed.
• 39:52
  Speaker 5: Wages.
• 39:53
  Speaker 4: Wages on there.
• 39:54
Speaker 5: Well, that was a big fail at the Super Bowl.
• 39:57
Speaker 3: Okay, my thing would be to the wages. How are
• 40:02
Speaker 3: you going to help me with my contracts up? How
• 40:05
Speaker 3: are you going to, like, if they're low-balling me, are
• 40:08
Speaker 3: you coming in? Are you going to come in and
• 40:10
Speaker 3: sit down with the GM? He ain't even going to
• 40:12
Speaker 3: talk to you. The only person he going to talk.
• 40:15
Speaker 5: To is going to be my agent. Is it mandatory
• 40:16
Speaker 5: to join? Is it a mandatory?
• 40:18
Speaker 6: I think it's mandatory to join any union per se.
• 40:22
Speaker 6: But you want to, though.
• 40:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think everybody will do it, like it or not,
• 40:27
Speaker 3: or enjoy it or not, or even, for that matter,
• 40:30
Speaker 3: respected enough to do it.
• 40:32
Speaker 6: But you'll do it. But let me ask you this
• 40:34
Speaker 6: before we move on to the next subject. We're talking
• 40:36
Speaker 6: about NFL. And I don't think we touched on this.
• 40:39
Speaker 6: You being a former Pro Bowler, they got rid of
• 40:41
Speaker 6: the Pro Bowl game.
• 40:42
  Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
• 40:42
Speaker 4: So, I mean, what are your just general thoughts on it?
• 40:45
Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, I forgot about that.
• 40:47
  Speaker 4: It was time.
• 40:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, because just to set the audience up, it was
• 40:51
Speaker 6: a game, obviously, that he played. It was a competitive
• 40:54
Speaker 6: game at one time. Then they moved to, like, these
• 40:56
Speaker 6: little flag football and, like, these little. It started as
• 41:00
Speaker 6: an all-star game. Yeah, now it's just done. So now
• 41:02
Speaker 6: it's just a list of guys. It's still, like, technically
• 41:05
Speaker 6: a Pro Bowl list. But it's no more games, no
• 41:07
Speaker 6: more activity. It's just nothing. It's just a list.
• 41:09
Speaker 4: So what do you think about it?
• 41:10
Speaker 3: I think that it probably needed to go to this
• 41:18
Speaker 3: level sooner than later. The game, guys are making too
• 41:24
Speaker 3: much money to go play in the all-star game. I'll
• 41:31
Speaker 3: call it an all-star game. Because you're going to– they're
• 41:35
Speaker 3: paying all your expenses. They'll, you know, feed you, do
• 41:39
  Speaker 3: all that kind of stuff. You could make, I don't know, $ 10, 000, $ 20, 000
• 41:46
Speaker 3: to be able to play in the game. You know, so,
• 41:49
Speaker 3: you know, you got a week work. You got a
• 41:50
Speaker 3: week of practice. You play the game a week or two.
• 41:53
Speaker 3: But you played an actual game. But you're playing an
• 41:56
Speaker 3: actual game. And the actual game, it's fun first quarter.
• 42:02
Speaker 3: second quarter, third quarter. You get into the fourth quarter,
• 42:07
Speaker 3: the winning team gets more money than the losing team.
• 42:10
Speaker 3: So if that game is close, now it's a game.
• 42:14
Speaker 3: Because you want to get as much money out of
• 42:17
Speaker 3: this trip as you possibly can. And I just don't
• 42:20
Speaker 3: think that they treated the game, they treated the They
• 42:23
Speaker 3: didn't treat the game and what you called an all-star
• 42:28
Speaker 3: game of your greatest or the best players in that
• 42:32
Speaker 3: season are all playing in this game.
• 42:35
Speaker 4: And you're going to pay them.
• 42:37
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 42:37
Speaker 4: I think it's time for all all-star games to go.
• 42:40
  Speaker 8: Hmm.
• 42:41
Speaker 4: Because they're making too much money. Even the NBA?
• 42:43
  Speaker 7: Yes.
• 42:43
Speaker 4: Get rid of it. It's horrible to watch. It's not fun.
• 42:46
Speaker 6: I think the only one– I think– Because, again, even
• 42:50
Speaker 6: a slam dunk contest is not really fun anymore because,
• 42:53
Speaker 6: you know, like LeBron, the top guys aren't doing it.
• 42:56
  Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
• 42:56
Speaker 6: The MLB baseball, like, home run derby, still kind of fun,
• 43:00
Speaker 6: I guess you could say. But I would say at
• 43:01
Speaker 6: this point, just name the all-star team, give those– you
• 43:05
Speaker 6: got the weekend off, and that's it. I'd just say
• 43:07
Speaker 6: get rid of all of it. It's just not what
• 43:10
Speaker 6: it was, and it's never going back to that.
• 43:12
  Speaker 5: I mean, you're probably– I mean, I think you're right
• 43:14
Speaker 5: about the quality of what you're witnessing. But I think
• 43:17
Speaker 5: that the media– I mean, I think they enjoy having,
• 43:20
Speaker 5: you know, those weekends whenever– Especially when– especially you think
• 43:24
Speaker 5: about baseball when the sports season is slow and they
• 43:26
Speaker 5: can make a big deal of the Major League Baseball
• 43:28
Speaker 5: All-Stars and NBA is what, in February? So it's during
• 43:31
Speaker 5: the break. So, I mean, it's the only game in town.
• 43:34
Speaker 5: A lot of people tune in just because of that
• 43:36
Speaker 5: reason because it's kind of in between, you know, the
• 43:39
Speaker 5: beginning and the end of the seasons.
• 43:41
Speaker 6: Yeah, but I think if you look at– I think
• 43:42
Speaker 6: the numbers on– I know the NBA All-Star, I think
• 43:44
Speaker 6: they were talking about the numbers were really way down.
• 43:47
  Speaker 4: And I just– I don't know.
• 43:48
Speaker 3: It's just if you're not– if it's not going to
• 43:49
Speaker 3: be competitive– Just get rid of it.
• 43:51
Speaker 4: I mean, you don't even. That's a good point. Go ahead.
• 43:54
Speaker 6: No, I'm just saying, like, even watching the old NFL, like,
• 43:57
Speaker 6: where they would do, like, the 40-yard dash races and
• 44:00
Speaker 6: they would do, like, the quarterback throwing contest and all
• 44:02
Speaker 6: the little things that they used to do.
• 44:04
Speaker 4: Even that stuff's not competitive.
• 44:06
Speaker 6: And even looking at, like, the NBA challenges where they do, like,
• 44:09
Speaker 6: the shooting and passing drills. They're like, you know, they're
• 44:12
Speaker 6: hamming that. So it's just like, yeah, just.
• 44:16
  Speaker 4: Let it go.
• 44:18
Speaker 3: I'm really with you, Hollis, on it, because I think
• 44:23
Speaker 3: when you look at when you look at, let's just say,
• 44:25
  Speaker 3: I don't know, somebody's yearly salary that they're making in
• 44:32
Speaker 3: a season. And I don't know if the Pro Bowl
• 44:37
Speaker 3: game has raised the money, but even if they have
• 44:40
  Speaker 3: not raised it.
• 44:42
Speaker 4: It ain't enough for me to want to play it.
• 44:44
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 44:45
Speaker 5: And so if I go— And the risk of injury.
• 44:48
Speaker 4: The risk of injury. That's it right there. And I
• 44:52
Speaker 4: don't even know. Is it still— it' s not in Hawaii anymore,
• 44:54
  Speaker 4: is it?
• 44:55
Speaker 6: I think they have moved. They play with it like
• 44:56
Speaker 6: it was in Vegas, California. They have played with it,
• 44:58
  Speaker 6: so it's not— See, so if I— I'm happy. You're
• 45:02
Speaker 6: going to fly me to Hawaii.
• 45:03
Speaker 4: I'm happy. You're flying me to Vegas. Nah, man.
• 45:06
Speaker 6: I think maybe what they should do is like for
• 45:09
Speaker 6: like the NBA, instead of having like the NBA dudes
• 45:11
Speaker 6: do it, like have the G League, like have those
• 45:14
Speaker 6: guys do it, like prospect all-star. If you're going to
• 45:17
Speaker 6: have like football, have like the USFL, the XFL, or
• 45:20
Speaker 6: the Arena League guys, pick from those guys and have a,
• 45:24
Speaker 6: and do a run with them, they'll play hard.
• 45:26
  Speaker 4: Oh, for sure.
• 45:26
Speaker 5: Give them a chance to showcase their skill.
• 45:28
Speaker 4: For sure. Have like the best triple-A prospects for baseball.
• 45:32
  Speaker 4: They'll go hard.
• 45:33
Speaker 3: And basically what you can do is you can, like
• 45:35
Speaker 3: you said earlier, you can name.
• 45:39
  Speaker 4: Your player names.
• 45:41
Speaker 3: Let's just say every player of the year by position,
• 45:46
Speaker 3: you know, in any conference, you can do that.
• 45:48
Speaker 6: And they have those guys coach. Have those guys coach.
• 45:53
Speaker 5: Oh. That would be– People would tune into that.
• 45:57
  Speaker 8: I think.
• 45:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think the players would enjoy that.
• 45:59
Speaker 5: How hard would that be, though, to organize, you think?
• 46:02
Speaker 5: Would that be a hard endeavor?
• 46:03
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 46:05
Speaker 3: I hate to say this because I'm giving Hollis some
• 46:09
  Speaker 3: props a little bit. I don't think they're smart enough
• 46:12
Speaker 3: to even come up with that. I just don't think
• 46:16
Speaker 3: that they're smart enough to come up with something like that.
• 46:17
Speaker 2: This is the problem.
• 46:18
Speaker 8: This is a bigger problem with professional sports as a
• 46:21
Speaker 8: whole right now. You've got the NBA and tanking. Same
• 46:25
Speaker 8: thing with just kind of hamming it in the All-Star game.
• 46:29
Speaker 8: What used to be almost sort of like they owe
• 46:34
Speaker 8: the fans to go out there and play every single game.
• 46:37
Speaker 8: I don't think the athletes have that mindset anymore.
• 46:39
Speaker 4: Same thing with the NFL.
• 46:41
Speaker 8: It's like if it's not a regular season game, somehow
• 46:43
Speaker 8: it's not worth anything, so they don't play.
• 46:46
Speaker 3: If you're making $ 40, 000 on your contract and you can
• 46:47
  Speaker 3: make another $ 20, 000.
• 46:53
Speaker 4: In the Pro Bowl? You're playing the Pro Bowl. Why not?
• 46:56
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 46:57
Speaker 4: You're playing the Pro Bowl.
• 46:59
  Speaker 3: You're making $ 500, 000, $ 800, 000, a million something, and you're going
• 47:02
Speaker 3: to get another 50 to go and play in the
• 47:05
  Speaker 3: Pro Bowl? No.
• 47:07
Speaker 4: Is that going to draw you?
• 47:08
Speaker 5: Not with the risk of injury.
• 47:12
Speaker 4: The risk of injury or your drive.
• 47:15
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 47:15
Speaker 3: Like, the moment I heard that I was– I made
• 47:21
Speaker 3: the Pro Bowl. I was like, oh, man, I can't wait.
• 47:24
Speaker 3: You know, this is going to be great. And I'm
• 47:27
Speaker 3: thinking about going and playing and playing hard. I got
• 47:30
Speaker 3: there and I understood, okay, now it's a little different tempo.
• 47:33
Speaker 3: But we played and all of that kind of stuff.
• 47:36
Speaker 4: But now... And it.
• 47:39
Speaker 5: Was in Hawaii every year, right? I mean, I'm sure
• 47:42
Speaker 5: that was an experience in itself. That was a great experience.
• 47:44
Speaker 8: It's about everybody's bottom line now. They don't care for
• 47:49
Speaker 8: the fans. They don't care about the fans.
• 47:52
Speaker 4: And they don't have to.
• 47:52
Speaker 5: Matt Murphy speaks wisdom also.
• 47:55
Speaker 3: And they don't have to care about money. So if you, Matt,
• 48:00
Speaker 3: if you don't have no impact on my money.
• 48:03
  Speaker 4: If Lisa doesn't.
• 48:03
Speaker 8: Have any impact on my money, why am I worried
• 48:07
  Speaker 8: about y'all?
• 48:07
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 48:08
Speaker 4: Good point. That's the bottom line.
• 48:11
Speaker 6: And that's the bottom line, Stone Cold Steve would say.
• 48:16
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 48:16
  Speaker 3: I mean, that's just a fact. I mean, I think
• 48:18
Speaker 3: today's athletes are more athletic, better than players before. But
• 48:31
Speaker 3: I think because of what they get paid, they can
• 48:35
Speaker 3: afford to care less about fan base. What you call me,
• 48:42
Speaker 3: what you think I am, if I win an award,
• 48:46
  Speaker 3: I'm making.
• 48:47
Speaker 4: This money over here.
• 48:49
Speaker 3: Whether I make the North, South, or any kind of
• 48:53
  Speaker 3: all-star thing, I don't care.
• 48:55
Speaker 5: Amen. And you know what? That's permeated into the NCAA
• 48:58
Speaker 5: football world now. I mean, it used to be we
• 49:00
Speaker 5: had legacies and we had loyalty. We don't have that anymore.
• 49:04
Speaker 4: Loyalty is– That's gone.
• 49:06
Speaker 3: That is– The critical piece, there is no more of that.
• 49:12
Speaker 3: I mean, there just really isn't. If Hollis is going
• 49:15
Speaker 3: to offer me more, Lisa, it was nice.
• 49:18
Speaker 6: But let's remember where it started. Again, I understand when
• 49:21
Speaker 6: it comes to the NFL and all that stuff, but
• 49:24
Speaker 6: the coaches started this. The coaches started that. Because let's remember,
• 49:29
Speaker 6: it was the coaches who would quit on their team
• 49:33
  Speaker 6: pre-bowl game.
• 49:35
Speaker 4: I do remember that. They still do. I do remember that.
• 49:38
Speaker 3: So the coaches don't take response because we like to
• 49:41
Speaker 3: bang on the players.
• 49:42
Speaker 6: The coaches started that. So I don't want to hear
• 49:44
Speaker 6: about no loyalty. The coaches threw that out the window.
• 49:48
Speaker 5: Well, even if, okay, maybe the coaches started it. I'm
• 49:50
Speaker 5: going to get on this bandwagon. I'm coming after you.
• 49:53
Speaker 5: They may have started it, but you know what? We're
• 49:55
Speaker 5: still humans, and we still have integrity and honor. And
• 49:59
Speaker 5: I think somewhere in a big part of sports is
• 50:02
Speaker 5: integrity and honor. And I know the coaches may have
• 50:04
Speaker 5: started it, but that doesn't mean that we have to
• 50:06
Speaker 5: let it permeate through the whole system and just ruin
• 50:10
Speaker 5: it for fans. Because eventually what's going to happen when maybe,
• 50:14
Speaker 5: I don't know, this is just my theory, fans are
• 50:17
Speaker 5: going to get sick of this.
• 50:18
  Speaker 4: They're almost there.
• 50:19
Speaker 5: They're almost there. And they're going to quit following college sports.
• 50:24
Speaker 5: And as much as they did, I hear people complain
• 50:27
Speaker 5: all the time about it, you know, that have season tickets.
• 50:29
Speaker 5: People aren't getting season tickets anymore. You know why? Because
• 50:32
Speaker 5: they say, I don't even know who's on the field.
• 50:33
Speaker 5: I don't know what kind of, you know, we don't
• 50:34
Speaker 5: know from year to year who's even on our team.
• 50:37
Speaker 5: I mean, it's kind of sad that it's come to this.
• 50:39
Speaker 6: Because I think, again, and I agree with you on
• 50:41
Speaker 6: that point, because I think what's going to happen, you're
• 50:43
Speaker 6: just going to have to sign multi-year deals. So it's
• 50:46
Speaker 6: going to be a salary cap. Everybody's going to be
• 50:50
Speaker 6: allotted the same money per level that they're on.
• 50:53
Speaker 4: And you're going to.
• 50:54
Speaker 6: Have to know there's the days of you transferring five
• 50:57
Speaker 6: and six different schools. I think it's coming to an
• 50:59
Speaker 6: end and you're going to have to sign two and
• 51:01
Speaker 6: three year deals. And that's what it is, what it is.
• 51:03
Speaker 6: And I think at the very least, you're going to
• 51:05
Speaker 6: have to sign two years deals if you're taking money.
• 51:07
Speaker 6: So I think that's coming. But I would also say, too,
• 51:10
Speaker 6: if we're going to do that, then that means the coach,
• 51:12
Speaker 6: you need to coach the season. You don't get to
• 51:15
Speaker 6: leave prior to. That means if you've got a ball
• 51:17
Speaker 6: game going up, you fulfill the contract. So we're going
• 51:20
Speaker 6: to have to make sure we have that.
• 51:23
  Speaker 4: On all fronts.
• 51:24
Speaker 5: I agree with that.
• 51:25
Speaker 3: I think there needs to be a dollar amount of
• 51:27
Speaker 3: where a head coach gets X dollars. This amount, you
• 51:34
Speaker 3: play this whole contract out.
• 51:36
Speaker 4: I ain't going to say that.
• 51:38
Speaker 6: You ain't got to play the whole contract out, but
• 51:39
Speaker 6: I think you have to play the season out.
• 51:42
Speaker 3: See, I think if I come to a school and
• 51:48
Speaker 3: I'm there for– you're paying me yearly. I could leave
• 51:53
Speaker 3: at any given time where you know, like I know,
• 51:58
Speaker 3: it's going to take a while to build a program.
• 52:00
Speaker 4: So why aren't you– signing that coach for four years.
• 52:06
Speaker 3: And he's committed to those four years to stay there
• 52:09
Speaker 3: to see if he can turn it around. Yeah, but
• 52:11
Speaker 3: I'm– And if he gets cold feet in year two,
• 52:16
Speaker 3: he got to buy himself out.
• 52:17
Speaker 6: I ain't going to say that. I mean, business is business.
• 52:21
Speaker 6: But in the contract– The only place it's not is
• 52:27
Speaker 6: in sports. Sports is the only place.
• 52:30
Speaker 4: That a contract is not a contract.
• 52:31
Speaker 6: But, I mean, like if you do a really good
• 52:33
Speaker 6: job and you get a bigger job, you shouldn't be
• 52:36
Speaker 6: limited or not turn down a job.
• 52:37
Speaker 4: But here's the thing.
• 52:38
Speaker 3: If I become great as a coach in two years
• 52:41
Speaker 3: and I want to lead to go to the best
• 52:43
Speaker 3: team in my third year, if I signed a three-year
• 52:46
Speaker 3: or four-year deal, I got to put that time in.
• 52:49
Speaker 4: I'm still getting money. Your coaches ain't going for that, bro. Yeah.
• 52:52
Speaker 4: That ain't happening. That shouldn't even be their decision. Yeah,
• 52:55
Speaker 4: that ain't happening. That shouldn't be their decision.
• 52:57
  Speaker 5: Oh, my goodness.
• 52:58
  Speaker 8: All right, well.
• 53:00
Speaker 4: Ladies and gentlemen, we close this one out.
• 53:03
Speaker 5: Everybody's mad at each other. Everybody's mad.
• 53:06
Speaker 4: I fired Hollis today. Not speaking. Yeah, he's not coming
• 53:10
  Speaker 4: back next week.
• 53:12
Speaker 5: I'll be back. I'll be back.
• 53:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, Lisa's back, but Hollis is gone. All right, ladies
• 53:16
Speaker 4: and gentlemen, we'll be back again next week.
• 53:19
  Speaker 5: Close it out.
• 53:20
Speaker 7: You gotta work, grind, shine, it's mine. Gotta show everybody
• 53:24
Speaker 7: it's my time. Getting it, you gotta work, grind, shine.
• 53:28
Speaker 7: Never mind who talking down, cause they lying. Don't talk,
• 53:31
Speaker 7: you gotta work. You gotta work. You gotta work. You
• 53:39
  Speaker 7: got to work.
• 53:40
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 53:40
Speaker 4: You got to work.
• 53:41
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 53:42
Speaker 4: You got to work.
• 53:42
Speaker 7: I'm going hard like Kobe inside the gym.
• 53:45
Speaker 4: I'm a diamond in dirt. I hit in gym.
• 53:48
  Speaker 5: Going for greatness.
• 53:49
Speaker 7: I got to win by any means because I don't
• 53:51
Speaker 7: know when I'll be back again.
• 53:53
  Speaker 2: Going hard.
• 53:53
Speaker 4: I got to get it, man.
• 53:54
  Speaker 2: I can't even lie.
• 53:55
Speaker 7: I put in so much sweat. My body running dry.
• 53:58
Speaker 7: I shed so many tears. Now I don't want to cry.
• 54:01
Speaker 7: Now it's coming easy to me. All I had to
• 54:03
  Speaker 7: do was try.
• 54:03
Speaker 4: I had to work. Push myself through.
• 54:05
Speaker 7: It even though I knew it hurt. Long as you
• 54:07
Speaker 7: do it right, it don't matter who do it first.
• 54:09
Speaker 7: Never say yourself short, know your worth. I knew I
• 54:12
Speaker 7: wasn't one to sense birth.
• 54:14
Speaker 5: I had to work.
• 54:15
Speaker 4: Grind, shine, it's mine.
• 54:17
Speaker 7: Gotta show everybody it's my time. Get in here, you
• 54:20
Speaker 7: gotta work. Grind, shine, never mind who talking down. Cause
• 54:24
Speaker 7: they lying, don't talk, you gotta work. You gotta work.
• 54:30
Speaker 7: You gotta work. You got to work.
• 54:34
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 54:34
Speaker 4: You got to work. Yeah. You got to work.
• 54:36
  Speaker 7: I knew I'd be a legend if I put in
• 54:38
Speaker 7: the time. Never quit, never give up if you falling behind.
• 54:41
Speaker 7: Anything you work for comes to you by design. Obstacles
• 54:44
Speaker 7: will never stop you because it's all in your mind.
• 54:47
Speaker 7: If you fall, dust it off and get back up
• 54:48
Speaker 7: on your feet. Anything could be a win, yup, even defeat.
• 54:52
Speaker 7: They say sugar bad for you, wise, victory sweet. Couldn't
• 54:55
  Speaker 7: play with bitch.
• 54:55
Speaker 5: Kids I had to sit in the.
• 54:57
Speaker 7: Street and watch from a distance but over time I
• 54:59
Speaker 7: grew if I put in the work in no time
• 55:02
Speaker 7: I'm due everything that I worked and prayed I'm okay
• 55:05
Speaker 7: if you ask me how did I do it I'm
• 55:07
Speaker 7: gonna say you gotta work grind shine it's mine gotta
• 55:11
Speaker 7: show everybody it's my time getting in you gotta work
• 55:14
Speaker 7: grind shine never mind who talking down cause they lying
• 55:18
Speaker 7: don't talk you gotta work you gotta work you gotta
• 55:25
Speaker 7: work You gotta work. You gotta work.
• 55:29
  Speaker 4: You gotta work.
