Every March, one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in North America takes place along a relatively short stretch of Nebraska’s Platte River.
Roughly a million Sandhill Cranes migrate north each spring, and an estimated 80 percent of them funnel through the Platte—a remarkable migration bottleneck where enormous numbers of these ancient birds gather to rest and refuel before continuing toward their breeding grounds.
