- 0:00Back with Gino here on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show for a Friday night.
- 0:05Maggie Vanani of the CT Insider dot combo joined us in the last two
- 0:09segments the Hall of Fame Women's Showcase, first time ever. It's a triple
- 0:14header at mohegan Son second ranked UCLA Florida State Open, South Carolina Utah that's
- 0:21one versus eleven, and then North Carolina Yukon. That's a pretty darn good
- 0:25triple header. That's like a regional somewhere. Yeah, that sure is.
- 0:30I mean, I thought the Hall of Fame, Uh, you know,
- 0:36the people there did a fabulous job of getting those those quality teams to come
- 0:48out and you know, having in Connecticut where people really appreciate the game and
- 0:53the fans are knowledgeable enough, I know it's going to be an exciting event
- 1:00for our fans. And every game, every game is is high level and
- 1:11you get to see teams you don't normally see here. You know, you
- 1:15don't you know, you don't normally see a Utah. You know, you
- 1:19haven't seen a u c A team out out here, you know, in
- 1:23December. So all these are are really really, really good and they're they're
- 1:30great for the game and they're great for us, do you know, I
- 1:34know you have a great relationship with Corey. Speaking of u c l A,
- 1:37Corey close to head coach Kiki right is legit. You've seen some really
- 1:42good point guards this year Rice Ronnie Harmon was really good at Texas. But
- 1:47your your relationship with Corey, that would be a great you know, regular
- 1:52team on the schedule U c l A. It used to be like yukon
- 1:56Stanford. It's fun to play the Bruins. And Corey's a really good coach
- 2:00and I know she's senior team practiced many many times back in the past.
- 2:07Yeah, yeah, you know, we're always looking to see what the next
- 2:14series is going to be, which means that some people will probably have to
- 2:19drop all that sang in order to add a new one. And and certainly
- 2:30you know u c l A is one that we we would look you know,
- 2:35and you would go out there probably and play two games instead of just
- 2:38one, as I'm sure they would you know coming out here. So yeah,
- 2:46you we have the usual suspects you know of people that we play,
- 2:53and then you try to mix the match going forward. Uh, drop this
- 2:58series for a while add this series, and that's that's what makes it exciting.
- 3:04Is it easier said than done to put all that together? Schedule wise?
- 3:07What's it like every year? Is it harder than it's ever been or
- 3:10a little easier? Well, I think going forward, it's going to depend
- 3:16on all the conferences that these people are in and how many conference games,
- 3:21how many conference games they have. You know, in the Big East,
- 3:25we went from you know, eighteen or twenty to eighteen I believe, which
- 3:39added to two more spots that we could play non conference games. So I
- 3:45don't know, you know, UCLA going to the Big Ten, how many
- 3:47games are they going to have to play in the regular season in a conference?
- 3:53And that's going to be, you know, probably a big determining factor
- 3:59on who you can a and who you can't because then they'll have to drop
- 4:01somebody that they've been playing. So it's a it's a Mary go around and
- 4:05and you you just try to do the best you can. And I think
- 4:11people look judging by what now people are lined up from here to Chicago to
- 4:17playoffs. Used to be hard. Now I think it's a little bit easier.
- 4:20No, I understand that too, and It's a shame because all this
- 4:25is football driven. It's not even basketball driven or any other sport. It's
- 4:30all about football. Yeah yeah, Now nothing makes any sense anymore. You
- 4:38know where this is going. Uh, it isn't good for schools like Connecticut
- 4:45or schools in our situation, and and unfortunately there's nothing you can do about
- 4:53it. You know, people initially thought that, you know, they can
- 5:00legislate you out of existence, but that's not what's going to happen. What's
- 5:05going to happen is they're going to bankrupt you. They're going to financially drive
- 5:10you out of existence. You know, if you have sixty sixty five schools
- 5:15that can afford these new these new things that are being implemented, that leaves
- 5:21everybody else out, you know, to a certain extent, and everybody's going
- 5:28to have to deal with it. Everybody's going to have to figure out where
- 5:31do I fit in? And I hope that it doesn't happen where the the
- 5:40basketball tournament becomes the same as the you know, the college football bowl series.
- 5:46That you've got this group here, and you've got this group over here,
- 5:49and they have their own tournament, and everybody else has their own tournament.
- 5:55Hopefully that never gets to that point. But you know, there's so
- 6:01much money in the football thing that the amount of money that's available to these
- 6:11schools, they they will do anything to get a piece of it. The
- 6:16one nice thing is that that the men's basketball tournament makes more money than football
- 6:21will ever make. So that's still out there that hopefully you don't want to
- 6:29mess with. Great final segment with Gino and the Wells Fargo. You kind
- 6:32of women's basketball coaches show coming up in a minute here on their fields.
