- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: A fine good.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now we need current good because there's levels, right?
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: I need current good.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm good, man.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: I'm good.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: That we don't need your hugs today.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: No hugs today.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I can always use a hug, but not that kind of hug.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, before we dive into the show, I know in the last episode you mentioned about that employee of yours that was injured.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we've been praying for him.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of our folks are asking us stuff.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: We just wanted to brief update there.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's appreciate it, man.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_03]: He's good.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: He's still in the hospital.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_03]: They fixed his sternum, so he can breathe on his own now.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: He's off the ventilator.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: He might have a broken vertebrae because he didn't have some feeling in his legs and stuff.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_03]: So they're doing an MRI on that today.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, those recover is going to be as long as, you know, you can imagine, but he's going to make it, which is great news.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I appreciate you asking.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, we'll appreciate the update.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, boys, we have the tradition of kicking off the episode with the old roundtable, yield roundtable of CEOs.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, Bubba, you're in a slot number one.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, go ahead and fire away, which would have been up to.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Man, if I only got back to a like sea level here from being an elevation last week, the prior week and elk country.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: So, back to normal, again, on the card front, have kind of slowed down.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Just kind of letting the whole
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: Pocies and play out here.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: I was lucky enough though to I say lucky enough got a smart enough.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I don't know one of the two to buy some tray a savage.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'll perform this playoff run.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm hoping it's Jacob, Mr. Alsky times two is what I'm hoping for.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: So we're about to find out.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: I know current dipped his toe a little bit in that as well.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: But man, what you savage did the other night.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: Man, coming out 11 gays and
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: cam slitter.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's some bit some young guys out there balling out.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: So the cam slitter market is just on fireman.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's like got that got that harpric written.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I mean, the guys, the guy came out and beast mode like no doubt, right, but like is
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: If these rookie pitchers, man, are getting just the issue of some outside crazy.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: I love when they get that height, though.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's fun to see the market go crazy.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: Have you all seen the video of your savage, his release point compared to like Trevor Rodgers or Tyler Rodgers down.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's weighed out in here and he's up here like Tom Hawking out of all, but dude, that dude's a beast.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: But interesting to see, man, we talked about the playoffs.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think we got a lot of it, right?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: And even some of the players, we talked about who we have in a big playoffs with the big hit the other night.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: Knock it in, Cal Rally, Cherio coming out, doing so.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: I've been tuning in on that.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: Was it big into football mode?
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: I hear as well.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, my dogs lost to Alabama with the previous weekend, but we got it right this weekend.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: It gets the big tough Kentucky Wildcats.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: But other than that, just finally looking back to like a normal phase of life for me sports for the kids.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: We are last football game tonight for the kids.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: We've got one more travel baseball tournament here coming up in a week and and then we're we're off to the off season here for us.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of excited about that and I'm looking to stockpile some cards when I can't.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: So how about you, ham?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we've actually got away this weekend.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Ocean Isle Beach is
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: I will call it our Hampton's current.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be our version of the Hampton.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's very different than the Hampton's.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: But it's our version.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's like an hour away.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: We snuck away.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: My wife's family has a place down there.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it took the kiddos down to the beach this weekend and I can promise you this.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Anytime you take five kids anywhere, it is not restful.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: It might be memorable, but it is not restful.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I told my wife between, I cooked breakfast lunch and dinner on Saturday, and then loaded the car up on Sunday and I told her I was like, I'm tired.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, why are you tired?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, did you see we did this weekend?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: It was crazy.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: So we had a good time though, got down to the beach, a little bit of a reprieve and a breather.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: On the card front, man, I'm having to like keep little mat.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I have to do it like check-ins on him.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: I might have brought you okay.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: You hadn't bought a card, you hadn't sold it like are you okay because he's like so frustrated with just the state of the market right now in the hobby He hadn't really had a lot of purchases come through just not a lot of opportunity for us and kind of what we've been seeing We did have a PSA order pop the other day straight nines across the board.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: So no luck.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: PSA yet no gems.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: So that makes it tough, but this weekend
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: Which a lot of folks are saying they're going to go so we feel like the turnout's going to be pretty good So hopefully it'll be a good opportunity to get around some folks and get some new inventory in the mix.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: So that's Before we get to Kurn here on the Kurn's going to go next.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: I got a question the grading for I've been joking and I kind of went joking about the BGS butcher But I just got two orders back as well.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: I got a PSA order back then I got a BGS order back.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's literally the Bowman butcher.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: He's
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: Does it butcher anything, but but he hates Bowman.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: I really think the guy owns a lot of Bowman.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't want anybody else to get good grades.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: Because all the good grades did I'm literally open the pack and I opened the box and like, okay, you know, maybe I'll get a nine five, BGS six, BGS seven, seven and a half, BGS six and a half.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, literally the highest grade I got was an 8.5.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: There was 20 carbs in there.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in a never sub through public don't do BGS PSA a little bit or lot, but BGS no.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, we're going to get some sports card CEO 10 foil hats and it's just going to say the BGS butcher the Bowman butcher the Bowman butcher.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: I love it to car with some of you, buddy.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: And that whole lot of men, I've been swamped at work years.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: Me and the card front, been a little light.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: I got the H on Friday to do some ripping.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: So I got a case, a couple loose boxes, I scunked men.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: I did a headache.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: I've never seen this before.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like I know we've seen bad cases, bad boxes, but 24 drafts.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_03]: I had one of the super jumbles I had, the boxes.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_03]: I had five base autos in that super jumble.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_03]: You think I know super jumbo has like, you know, tendency to be a lot of base autos, but five base autos.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: And like, and not good guys, like, it's not ideal.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_03]: When you're when your best card is like, a countergriff and refractor non-auto, like it's a bad news in a $1200 box, you know?
- 7:29[SPEAKER_03]: You didn't cope by going out and buying a bunch of pookie monitoring.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: Did you?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: Not, didn't do that.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't do that.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_03]: I cope by going to buy something else.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_03]: And it just makes you feel worse.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: She like, go down that rabbit hole.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I keep chasing her.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_03]: But personally, I've just been I've been watching some post season baseball, drowning my sorrows in the mats.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, I've been wondering, you know, like, there's all the baseball going on.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, I can't help but think I'm like, what is my buddy?
- 7:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what is my trout up to?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, what does he do?
- 7:59[SPEAKER_06]: Yo, what's our kid?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_06]: I'm having a great time.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: What are you doing for?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, what's up, man?
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm golfers.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the sports card CEO podcast, none other than Mike Trout.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, what's up, man?
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: How you guys doing?
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: That really is good over here.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Can't beat this weather.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's so good to have you on, but look at that.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_03]: A trout national, huh?
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_03]: Finished up around.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like clay golf at your own course.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's got to be something special.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be honest.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and all the first round was kind of surreal.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a long time coming to see and everything come together and finally, you know, seeing grass and being able to hit a golf ball.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's, uh, it's been amazing.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_03]: Are you, are you always out in, um, in Jersey in the off season?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I jumped back and forth, but mainly, mainly Jersey.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: We got a bunch of family back here.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's always good to come back and see the people that I don't see during the years.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_03]: I really appreciate you coming on.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_03]: We all appreciate you coming on the show.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: You and I, first met, we actually did a deal together.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I came out to LA and you took me for every penny.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_03]: I was worth.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, this guy, this guy, this guy, this guy, Billy connected us and Billy's I called my Kurt saying I called Kurt's dude, that's what I was going to say Billy Billy big on, he's like, he wants Kurt's and I'm like, why is he want Kurt's?
- 9:16[SPEAKER_03]: So as like, whoever his guy warrants, I don't trust him.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's going on here.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, I want the Kurt's that I gave him.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_03]: One of the cards I gave him was in the deal was a Kurt's orange.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: And he was like, this was before his, this was anyway, it's called up.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_03]: And you were saying you just loved him.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_03]: You loved him as a prospect, right?
- 9:35[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you call it out.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think, you know, angels had a top pick at that year.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I every year, we're doing a draft.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of, the top, like, you know, 25 guys, I kind of dive into and I really like his swing.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a approach.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not like looking at, I knew it played.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: I know it played and you seen it this year.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: He was, he was fun to watch.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: What did he end up with?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think I over 30 and he was a thousand OPS.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's ridiculous.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's impressive.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you'll see that from, you know, a young guy like that.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_03]: These younger guys who have come up in struggle, he came up just.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if you if you watch some of his homers, I mean, the balls he hits the other way is just that's impressive of me, you know, and I'm going to say 99% of the guys in that that play I can pull the baseball, but, you know, if you can go the other way with that with that kind of power, I think I watched him hit a change up like down in a way, under the buildings and left center against us, and I'm, you know, just the way his swing stays in his own for such a long time, you know, he's going to have a lot of success like that over the years.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_03]: So you get to Nick Kurtz cards.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: So Mike, we're going to kind of just go round table here.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: The boys are on different questions, that's you.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, current, you'll go ahead and lead off a little bit here with the card side.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_03]: I usually like to lead off with the card side and, um,
- 11:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think most of the the baseball world and the world knows that you you collect your own cards or a lot of your own cards because you've been on like tops and, you know, they should, you know, tops list to do those deals that you traded this and that and the other, but if you don't mind like sharing a little bit about your collection.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: you know what you enjoy to collect and why I think our listeners would love to hear that.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean is your just your own cards or is it everything?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's mainly everything.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think you know having kids are going to five year old now, Beckham and one year old.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: It all started when I got the the pedigree for PSA, you know, trough family collections so I get them all out of cards and we know the pedigree.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, just a other reaction like, you know, ripping with my boys.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, my my young.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: You see does it really know what's going on.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: He starts shooting the cars, but it all started when I when I pulled that that rookie Bowman video and like people asked me like, hey, that's a set up.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: I like to be honest.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I ordered I bought three different boxes two were from like Louisiana and one was from Ohio and I literally was
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: going to keep, I told myself, I'll go back.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: I bought one for my boy back then.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: I said, all right, when he turns 18, he can open every like a nice gift for him or he can do whatever he wants with it.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: No, I had another son.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: And when I found a, to find another one, I was like, you know what, I want to rip one.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I bought two more and so I got one from my youngest.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I had him out on the table on every day.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, me and my boy would walk by this.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: We had a little, um, as well, like, sort of side table in the basement in the game room and we walked by it and he'd like that.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: Let's rip, let's rip.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, now, they're for you later in your life, you know, when you get older and you appreciate it and he's like, finally to a point I was like, you know what, let's just rip one.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: You got, I got to, we'll put two away, let's just rip one.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: The, it was like, it was unbelievable how, you know, first box.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like I let him pick, there was three, let him pick.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was first box, first pack.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: No, it was first pack.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: It had to.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: First pack.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: I simply can't make this up.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then, it all went down.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: It went down, it went down, it was like.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: he wants to just find you know angels players like he's on he was on the rock he's for a little bit in uh in his little league team so now like when I pull rocky players you're oh let me keep that in the event so um you know up still the main collection is me uh for them guys but uh you know courage got me in the bone with a lot and I really wasn't into it that much until
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: I was ripping and you know, when you pull a big card, I mean, it's just like, there's no better feeling of, you know, chasing a super or, you know, pulling a red or orange.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Bowman Bowman, I go through, like, these stretches where it's like, when I first started getting in the cards during COVID, I was chasing, um,
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: I was doing prison football like Jalen's year.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: It was like love, her burrow.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, that was fun to be.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then I was like, I did not like dabbled into some basketballs, but my main collection right now is probably myself and that's a meagall's guys.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: So an X teammates, I've had some, I've got teammates over the years now.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's been fun.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of just, what I'm feeling that day, you know, we're that week, and then go from there.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_03]: It was going to say, I've seen some pretty nice cards of an old teammate.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got some pretty good old times.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: I was fortunate to play with them.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: So it was fun.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I get some quite out like pre, I didn't really even get, uh, you know, into the cards and didn't really know how to get into.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then once I got them, uh, go and they're pretty pretty cool to have.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're like me in that in that you love to rip.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like you have that, you get that it, right?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's no better feeling than
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: I love buying like it's cool to win auctions on, you know, different, you know, sites, natics and then eBay.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty cool.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: I like, you know, sometimes going, you know, whatnot and mess around and stuff, when you're bored at night, it's tough because, you know, when we come back for a game, it's like, ah, what do you want to do?
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can go to the
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: play some call duty or, you know, sitting after don't playing, you know, war zone, it's like, all right, let's turn on the, no fanatics or, or whatnot, so it's, it's, it's, you can go down that rabbit hole quick.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll never, I'll never forget that that one time of whatnot, I get it call for Mike.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, I'm at, I'm at like one of my son's friends birthday parties and I was like, all right, he must have hit some big.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, like, what's up?
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, he's like, he's like, he's leshing.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_03]: Like do it like it's like get the hell out of you do it only you.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I think and I think that's the The thing that gets me like opening packs and pulling that big card or like even like when I pulled my cut my my bone and the team My kids reaction.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, even if it's like like right now like when I you know open
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, just a basic set, and I get like a, like one of my cars, it's like a basic card and my kid loves it.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, that cross, he's like that sign.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think I pull a net.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, that's taking to the field and that was sign.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the whole team.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's why I like about it.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: But there's nothing better to me than ripping up.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: rippin' a car like I got I got cases of the moment to house and I mean I ripped one the light two days ago one case and I got like uh I think the case it was like uh oh yeah and uh it was a them pale things uh the cab and gpk
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, GPK of who was a can of Smith, it was like a base.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I still got a couple more cases back there, but you also hit another monster.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_03]: You hit a Josh Wargon's all was black.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, you can't.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: That was a see the new the new the new boom, and I'm not really familiar with like the guys.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you know, you told me some guys that the chase, but yeah hit that black at a 10 and it came back 10 10.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 17:07[SPEAKER_03]: So I'll be coming.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: I guess I didn't go with who was a who was the guy he doesn't send it to PSA that he you guys It wasn't getting right Gary said in the beginning.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: Are you talking about when you submit the card when you submit the cards
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Mike's obviously Mike Troutney's a source of them at all our cards because everybody's like because like I'll send current's all the good ones and then he's like he's like man he didn't even a lot of good grades.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like you don't see half of it.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Why would I say it like a, you know, because I go minimum nine if it's other nine's like, I don't know what I mean.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, wait, first of all, we forgot.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_03]: Congratulations.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm from 400.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Bravo.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_03]: So I got, I got you a little gift here from us.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: My God, the baseball artist made a, a 400 home rubble.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to send your way.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's images from that at that.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: If you can see here.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to send this your way.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's really really cool looking card.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_03]: You did a good job on this one.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to send this your way in a case, but what am I still man, what am I still now, that must have been a nice monkey off your back.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, it was, you know, going over the year it was kind of.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was battling like, uh, I just created a bad habit and it might have been just because I wasn't even been banged up the last, you know, a couple of years.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: I've been playing a lot and I've been fighting just being able to just, uh,
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't really getting in my load and I was crashing forward and I was, you know, the ball was moving on me and I was, I joked around in my guys at my pitching or not pitching my hitting guys at like, I'm going up there in the ball.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: There's like a tick attack coming in and that's not, that's not a good feeling, you know, with that and, you know, chasing 400.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: The big, another thing that was tough for me was they changed the balls every time.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like I would walk it like I'm trying not to think about it.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm walking up to the plate and they're like switching balls.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: So like, oh, you know, obviously there's switching balls.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going through 400, you know, the last two weeks, the season.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: I found something in the case that was, I felt like my old MVP self.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: And got results I wanted, went on a little, a little strong finish.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I hope I could take that in the next year.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, getting 400 and it was definitely a relief.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I hit a couple balls that, you know, the night before that, you know, 105 and like a 37 and that's Colorado's.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they had a chance.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_03]: I thought you had one of those.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but no, when I did hit it, it was, I knew that was going.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't miss out with self.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: So Mike, a little side note here.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: My son and I went to New York City when you guys were playing the Yankees earlier this season.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's right when you'd come back.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we actually had, we got off the airplane.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so we had all of our cards with us.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yankees Stadium, because we were going to a card show.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: And we had your rookie refractor auto.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: And we literally took a picture at Yankees Stadium with it with y'all on the field or whatever.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's it, I've got three.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: The one that you met earlier is 15.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he didn't have the cards.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: I bet you got to that's not cheap.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: I know you guys are asking me questions, but I want to ask you guys something, because I think the way the card has it always been this expensive, because I'm looking at it up.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, because I'm like, we talk about paying it, okay?
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm looking at his numbers, I said, like numbers are great, unbelievable.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: But he doesn't even have a bat in the states yet, doesn't he?
- 21:11[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you're talking about, yeah, not even in a bad in the state.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: But that's what's crazy to me.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, guys, they're going for so much.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: I see that I see the whole potential don't get me wrong.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: They're unbelievable players.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we'll have to build more like my day and, you know, when we change, when we're chasing Griffin, we still are.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you could just tell like, you know, they're going to do it.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like, these guys have a stuff floating in the big leagues.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's pretty crazy.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: And these guys are going for like more than, you know, what?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, if you want MVP's, you know, it's pretty, it's pretty crazy to see that and I didn't know if that's like a new thing or I know it's Yeah, it's a great, great topic.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dive into that for a second.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody kind of go round table.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you have, I know you have some thoughts here, Gary.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_03]: You're the market guy.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think they've been, it look, prices of always in my opinion have been expensive, not like this though, not like this.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like the hype or more so than ever is through the roof, every release now.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_03]: And Bowman Chrome, the guy, William Payne, you know, like you mentioned is in, is the most, is the risk is product.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_03]: It's 38% of the checklist, the auto checklist, our DSL guys that have never played in the States, hadn't that that in the States, right?
- 22:17[SPEAKER_03]: But the, but the price is keep on getting higher and higher, which is wild.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_03]: And as that's happened,
- 22:25[SPEAKER_03]: You know, more risk-averse and step away from that, just because the longer you're in cards, the more you're going to get burned with stuff like that, and I think Bowman Curl.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so much like you buy these cases, and if you just wait, and it's, let's some like pull, I mean, as much as that, as much you're spending on cases, you can use buy the card.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_03]: Well, again, I'm a suspect.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's 100% the way to go.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_03]: If you have the, if you have the will power to stay away, that's 100% the way to go.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_03]: But like the hobby will just never make sense when you have a guy like, when you have
- 22:55[SPEAKER_03]: Junior Caminarro who had a, you know, monster season 40 plus home runs, right, and his oranges are selling for, you know, I don't even want to use Connor Griffin as an example, but because he's a, he's a, you know, a level of himself with a prospect, but like let's be honest, he hasn't stepped foot in a major league field when his prices are double Junior Caminarro, there's something.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I've been thinking about that for like a while now.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: I wish I was having collected.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, it's almost like if you pull a big card, you tell it or it get rid of it.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't like, if you don't like the guy, I'd like to see the future of the value of that.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: But because the prices are so high now.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: And then once it comes down, it'll be real low.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're going to get way more value.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, Gary, go ahead.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm just going to say that I think I was just looking at a spreadsheet earlier today when I was buying Conner Griffin Blacks for $2,500, right?
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the story is different for every player every single release.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this release was specifically looking at it so thin that you're going to open for the few guys that are there.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: right where with Connor, he was kind of overshadowed with some of the other folks there when the whole time, you and I were talking, I was like, look, dude, this is one of the guys has power speed.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: He has it all, you know, I mean, he's one of his being overshadowed by Jack.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: So we're here.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: We were targeting Connor and targeting some of these other guys on like weather whole, some of these other guys.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: We never bought a single jackcard.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: And we had Jack on the show and I love Jack.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_02]: But his prices were way too high for the type of player he was.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's by release in my opinion every, you know, and you look at a guy like Connor Griffin.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's one of the few guys right now that current in our talking about the other day.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like,
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: do we even sell this guy because he's that damn good in our opinion like when it comes to Connor right now what he could do.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: So it's hard.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it's situation must situation.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, a guy like that like Connor and to be honest, I think the people that are holding him.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: No joke, they're holding him or paying high prices thinking that he's going to go up and that he's going to be the next Mike trout.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's where their mind is, you know, and the guy in Bowman chrome that they're buying is he going to be the next one soto, you know, from
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things I was going to say Mike is like, you're kind of a blame for this honestly.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, seriously though, like, and not in a negative way, but like, you're super-fract your soul for $4 million.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you had red sales if your first boom and red do a million a couple of times.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so anytime somebody comes in, like you are going to be the standard by which people start to go, okay, could this guy be that?
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: And it's fun hearing it from you because like you lived it,
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: as a free time MVP and you're like, dude, this is like ridiculous, the level of competition and all this kind of stuff.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: So it's interesting here you're perspective on it with that correlation.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I just, you know, I remember you guys talking about the, you know, the pictures.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, every time I talk to currencies like, I don't really, you know, collect that many pictures because they're like the value isn't there, but I think, you know, going back to, you know,
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're talking about like how my cards are so I think people look at like the skin stuff like they see value like with the young guys, I like, okay, this got to be, you know, the next skins, you know, or and just they're trying to get ahead of it and, you know, they can, you know, put, put up at them big prices and it's, it's crazy how like they had, you have one good game or,
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a couple of good games were just like the prices skyrocket, you know, like the guy for the blueprints, uh, tray of savage.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: You savage.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: I bet to his cards doubled or tripled in the last, you know, three days, um, which is fun.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, you take chances on guys, like, if you guys strong, like, if you feel strong, they're about somebody, like, going before the season, I mean, I was talking to curtains.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, bro, Conner's a guy, like,
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: This is a guy we got to go after, like, he is the real deal, you know, and you see it.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this was, this was pre-season, like before, like, bring training, like before anything.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then you see what he, what he did out in the field.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: And like here, and, you know, I'm around a lot of baseball people, obviously.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Just like people coming in and out, like seeing, mildly guys play, you know, he just, he just stands out, you know, more than, you know, everybody.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: it's funny we had Connor on the show and we asked him straight up who's the filthiest guy that you ever faced his answer was trade savage and so again if somebody would have been listening to our podcast and would have gone in on Connor's hot take on your savage they would have easily tripled up right now wouldn't you think I'm out in the time frame up same to the same with the guy from New York you know 110 pitches you know
- 27:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's in 20.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's in Bowman Chrome the new year.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the one that's out now.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: And and and then I think that hasn't that's something to do with the cases going out to like they have good games.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to go up, you know, because oh, he could be in there.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because another.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: But keeping the rhythm going here with the kind of questions, but would you have some stuff for Mike?
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I do, but I want to kind of finish the thought we were talking about, because it's kind of unique when you look at this.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: You look at the last five, six, seven years.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: You look at Ellie, Corbin, Carol, Julio, Gunner all came together in a class.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: You had a CUNY a soda of LAD, all come together, Tetice.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Then you have Connor, Weatherhold, Maganagul.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: We have these waves.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: you know every and that's what you're looking for right who's going to be in that waves you know you look at chario and you look at caminero and you look at this next newest wave that's kind of hit James Wood PCA you know guys like that are hitting I mean that's what's fun about Bowman you know there's somebody's going to be in that waves
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know, just who is it going to be, you know, that's, that's what's fun about the hunt.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: So, um, but yeah, that's what we love doing this, but I'll get, you know, most of my questions Mike are going to be baseball questions.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a baseball guy, three boys, 12 years old, 10 years old, nine years old.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: So, where we live a baseball life, we go all over the southeast playing baseball.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: So, most of my questions are going to be,
- 29:09[SPEAKER_02]: about what you were talking about earlier when you said like crashing on your load, I'm sitting there thinking like you're talking about my 12 year old right now.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like started, I mean literally like that's he he wants to crush your baseball, but he thinks forward is and you know that's what he's trying to get.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's the kind of stuff I love talking about.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll start off with kind of a a softball question to you here.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: Who are the three toughest pitchers?
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: in your career that you feel in any time you feel like you faced who are the three toughest guys you're like you know what I hated face and they could be in the league now they could be retired who are the three guys to stand out to you like man I want to step it against this guy first off was it's got to be
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: Scherzer when when I faced him in Detroit, it seemed like every seemed like every day I would face him in like a day game in Detroit, early game, and you know, he would throw them up too fast while that 100.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was tough.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd say Scherzer's up there.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: Berlin, there is always.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: Berliners, he's good for reading because I mean, obviously throws really hard and can he can locate anything.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: I funny story about her landerings.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think my first, I think it's
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: I hit a homer off a slider and this was like first two years in the big leagues and every time I faced them sense and I have never seen another slider really So I thought that was pretty cool because like, all right, well, you know, it's a he got me out a lot he punch me a lot because, you know, he's he's a guy that's like, he'll be 93 94
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, early in the count, and then you know, when you get two strikes, dial it up, just dial it up and you can locate.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think nowadays it's people are pushing for VLO and stuff and less location when it needs to be, you know, when you see the good good pitchers, they can locate with all their pitches.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think for me that's the toughest because, you know, guys that throw harder, you know, that can't really locate, they're going to give you something to hit.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, Berlin was up there.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: to good questions, who would be my third, third toughest to mean everybody's throwing a hundred out.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, did you ever get to face DeGrom at his peak back when he was like one thing?
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: You got him in the whole star game, dude.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got him in the all star game.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of things up.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: That was in Washington.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: That was in Washington.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: That was in Washington.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: DeGrom, yeah, DeGrom's up there because he can just throw
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: five or six fastballs or three fastballs, three sliders in the same exact spot.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like I mean, if he just put a target on the out, you know, the outside, you know, quarter of the plate, he's hitting it every single time.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: And like if you chase, like he'll go, like it's like an answer to farther.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: And, uh,
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for him, like, he never really comes inside.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's just all the way.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just a smooth, like, okay, here comes delivering and then it's like a low BB.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was, he's a tough guy.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: But like, that's like that, like, I love facing because like, they're competing and I'm competing, you know, you know, he's gonna get me.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna get him, like, there's gonna be cool moments.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like facing guys like that, it's always, it's always been fun.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: I had, I was gonna go, about facing show, hey.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: Show, hey, yeah.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was kind of a weird moment, but like that was like, yeah, I think I was kind of battling the whole, you know, swing thing at the time, uh, as in the ball wasn't looking like a baseball, so if you add that to what show a throws, not a good combination, so yeah.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's funny because people are like, oh, you know, you have you've seen them or face them, that's the first time I've ever seen them, you know, face them.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, he, he's definitely tough, just because you get through all the pitches hard, I know how, you know, he worked when he was with us and he was just, you know, he competes, you know, and I think, you know, seeing that competitiveness and end.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's a tough tough battles back.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm the test your memory here on yourself.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember who you got your first hit off of Well, first hit it was against the Mariners.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was a sack bond.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's a trivia question.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: Jack font.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: He did out.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was Pinier to me.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, there you go.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like the first home on the first home on the everybody asked me to use your first home run off of it.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like I know was a sub mariner and it wasn't there.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't a day for the orals.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: It was another sub look there.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'll give you a hint if you want one.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah people he asked me it's all the time.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just His initials are mw you.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: I still I don't even think I can give it to you then.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he is Mark Whirl sub mariner Yep, and you know Automar to lie 24th 11 11.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, man.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm up from double that.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, my little backyard
- 33:53[SPEAKER_03]: Do you remember your, your stat line on your debut?
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: I was over three.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, over three.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then it was funny, too, because the next day, I literally didn't get, I landed at like, I got the call.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then I flew in overnight.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: I landed like 530 in the morning, barely slept.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it was the most extreme and most exciting.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: I've ever had in the baseball game.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like I was playing video games.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was wild.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_03]: unbelievable.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_03]: Who are the guys in the league that you see as, I mean, we spoke about Nick Kurtz, but like who are the guys in the league now that you see a star or feature stars on that stand out to you that you've seen and played against or maybe not even played against, but you just watch.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think like going back to a whole collect an abomin, you know, just being when the angels, you know, have
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, first round, you know, top 15 picks.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think being able to study the guys and see the guys and it's cool to be able to see them, then they get drafted and then see them have success in the mirror leagues.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think stars, you know, there's, you know, you play against our Kurt's junior.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was, he was unbelievable.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think the guys, I mean, you already know this, but the guy that, you know, been hyping up the most is kind of, I mean, just, you know, the swings
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's fun to fun to be able to look at a guy and like all that place, you know, and it's cool when you send me some names, you send me some names and I just YouTube Google and just say like, all right, yeah, I like this swing.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: You give the eye test.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, yeah, you know, hope, the lefty swing.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he had a couple of balls I watched this year on the top of the roof.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oppo was just in front of him.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's a monster.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: And you're seeing like you're saying, you're seeing a lot of young pictures coming
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's coming up just dealing so it's a good state for the game when you have guys like that come up a succeed You know, like Jack, you know, he come came had an unbelievable mind like career this crush it and then, you know, Jack came up and grinded a little bit struggle.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's it's very rare.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: You see a guy come up and just absolutely dominate.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: They need to get your feet wet a little bit and
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the first, you know, 100, 200 at a bat, it's like you're trying to hit the ball 500 feet or you're trying to hit a full, uh, a grand slam with a known on base.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: Just stuff like that, the pressure that's only especially for him.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, you know, you know, I love watching him play and, uh, you know, he'll be, uh, I went through it.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was the best thing for me when I got caught up.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: built, got sent back down, knew what to expect when I came back up and tried to adjust from there.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's, that was the biggest thing for me.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think if you just go up, you know, we're seeing it now where you got some guys coming up and they have a hot start and they don't fail.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: And in the mirror leagues, they've been, you know, been the best at their position and best on the field, their whole career.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then when they get to the big leagues, they fail a little bit.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're, you're on the spot
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: How you can just, how you handle that and get out of that is, is key.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: I just tell you, you kind of remind me of Chipper Jones in your student of the game mentality.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's such a student of the game as a hitter.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he with the braves now anytime anybody struggling, they're bringing Chipper in.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's looking at their swing.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's kind of like the coach of the inning.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: When you're looking at something like that, or heard you talking about keeping the barrel in the zone.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and keeping it in a long time, when you see a guy like Kevin McGonagal, okay, who's got the number one rated hit tool in the whole class coming up the highest, I think you can even get like what what what what how do you think they're getting there with that is that because the barrels in the zone like what you're looking at a swing like when you say that plays what are you looking for.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think, you know, just the swing in general, you could tell like, well, I can tell like, if you're looking at a swing and just how quick they are, and it's not real long, not a lot of things happening and not a lot of things, not a lot of things have to line up to be a, you know, have a good swing.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've seen a, I saw McGonagall hit a 98 minor fast while like up and in and he pulled it down a line this year.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think current G7, you know, like last month of the season,
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the longer you have your barrel through the zone instead of up and out like I'd done with a this year You know, I was up and out and it's not a good feeling.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a good feeling and like I said the longer you got the the barrel in the zone, and The more room for air you got So is that teamwork is that mostly teamwork is that flips you're trying to hit it in the net Which way what do you when you're trying to break that?
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, my trout doing
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, like, if I can just really feel it when I hit off the tee, you know, if I'm hitting stuff, you know, if I'm cutting across things instead of like hitting the ball, you know, driving it up the middle or, you know, like a low line drive, I can feel it like feel myself go like straight.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: out, and like extension, opposed a real quick and like quick left, you know, for me, it's when I just crash and then all my all the force that like I'm getting is just falling backwards and it's making me fall back and it's just straight up and left, opposed to like being in your legs and like being athletic and having that length in your swing to be able to adjust.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you're if your swing is in his own,
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: not that long I mean it's hard to stay and adjust on you know breaking balls or even like hitting the ball like I'm breaking ball down in a way it's hard to if you're not really staying in their zone long and you have that you know that lag and you're swinging it's tough to you know have good results.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I asked Connor the same question about curb bolts in Jack Kaguayani asked him the same question.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: When did you start feeling like you could recognize curveballs?
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: What at what age?
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: And like not like what Kaggle what Kaggle was saying is you see he's looking for the bump.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: He's seeing the bump of a curveball coming up.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like when do you feel like you really kind of nailed that and you're in your wet what age?
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's definitely different nowadays because I mean, I'd go to like a little late game and you got nine and 10 year olds.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I can even go younger, you know, seven eight year olds throwing breaking balls.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, what is going on?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, no, I think for me, I'm always looking fast while the break likes like let me get their Roman cards.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for me, it's like I'm I'm always looking fast while and just telling myself and just preparing my mind and my brain to like see a pop up and then I'm prepared when it happens you know always.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: always liked when guys you know through through all their pitches like my first of that.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I see them like I can visualize them.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_00]: I know what they're they're doing and they're spending.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: I talk a lot of pictures about this.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like why would like if it's like a one-count or a count and there's no one on base why do you get thrown this dude your best pitch like.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: Make them get yourself out and save that for like if there's a big situation.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: You show me your best pitch like I see it.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: I know what it is like I see it so like it's going to get me way more advantage when that big situation comes up because I seen it for you.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of people just go off the analytics and in the cards that they
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: You know, a new rookie picture or anything because you want to be able to have, you know, you want to be able to see as many pictures of your guys.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: See as many pictures or no, I mean, I don't really care where I hit the line.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I like to be more than one.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't mind three, but, you know, I think the benefit of being in the lead off spot.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're going to get five of that.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you got to take advantage of that.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: I like that gives you more chance at the plate.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: But like me, I don't really swing at the first pitch that much.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I like seeing a lot of pitches and just getting, you know, just building up like inflow throughout the whole game.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, big thing is like seeing a lot of pitches and then coming back and like telling your teammates, talking to your teammates of like, okay, this is what it's doing.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is what I've seen, you know, because they might pitch me differently than Joe Deau or, you know, something like that.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: So being able to, you know, suck, like be a sponge and like get all that information.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, as much as you can.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: If they leave on hang and like over to play, you're going to hit it.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like you want to hit it, but yeah, Mike related to just kind of sports in general.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Did you play other sports in high school?
- 42:11[SPEAKER_01]: Was you just baseball focused?
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry if I took your question, Gary.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was just kind of curious as he's talking about that.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: I played all three sports.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: I played football to get stronger.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: I played basketball to just get quicker and stay in shape for baseball season.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: on the outplay off the reports.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was great for me.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: It was a good reset.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was good, uh, good to get my mind off the game a little bit.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it's not saying like I didn't still hit and stuff.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing football season or anything for basketball season that is, but I thought it was a good reset for for me at the time.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like at the time, I didn't think of any of the other, but now looking back, it was it was good for, I think my baseball because I see a lot of a lot of people now, it's like they're playing baseball every single weekend
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's one weekend after another, after another, after another, after another, and it kind of just waters down a little bit.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think you get the competition of both sports, you know, basketball football, whatever it is.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: It just there's benefits to playing football, you know, for toughness and a lot of different variations for that sport, opposed to what you're doing baseball.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the way I looked at it.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: Love that.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: a two other questions for you real quick on the first pitch thing.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's in I mean, I'm I'm like you right now.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the sponge trying to suck all this information in for my kids on editing.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_02]: So first pitch.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if you are swinging at the first pitch, is it just an ambush?
- 43:28[SPEAKER_02]: You've already come in and said, hey, if he throws me a fastball here in this spot, I'm going to take his head off.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: Is that kind of a mentality when you are swinging first pitch?
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: What's the what's the chance?
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, so yeah, so that's what that's what gets me in trouble.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why a reason why I don't do it.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: because I get too big and I either chase or, you know, I try to hit the ball so far when I don't need to.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: I get out of my approach, funny story, bring it up, about the first pitch.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't, I didn't throughout the Myrlics to about double a, I think.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: I took a strike every bad.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that,
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Over the time helped me with my approach and my plate discipline because I saw a lot of pitches and it was just weird like I got to a point where I was like two O pitch and like it was uncomfortable for me to swing because I was so like comfortable with hitting with two strikes or like big situations I got way better results And this is just me.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: I got better results was like two on where it was like all right I got a strike on me, but I'm like I stay within my approach.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: She's I get out of my approach.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's over for me
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I tried to hit a home or I'm out on that note though.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: This is the part where I'm out with my boys now, especially my two older ones and I feel like I'm more of a psychologist.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: I am a baseball coach when it comes to swinging in such a game of failure and I've actually showed them a video that you made.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember what company it was or if it was just your own video, but it's you talking about failure and about the game of failure and how if you walk
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: And you're, and you're already thinking, Oh, no, man, I got out last time.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: What's going to happen.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: You're already done.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: You're already out.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's already over and so how do you like for the all these kids that are listening anybody that's playing competitive sports like this baseball specifically, how do you I know mind sets you have to work on it just like your swing.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: What do you do?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: What do you tell in yourself?
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like what is that?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: How do you keep yourself strong mentally in baseball?
- 45:25[SPEAKER_02]: Mike, Mike, my trout.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think, I mean, you're spot on with that.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: For me, it's the snowball effect.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you don't want one at bat going into another at bat.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: Then you're sitting there, you know, four or five games later.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, 17, 18 at bats.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: Because you're worrying about the bat before.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: I've always, you know it's tough.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough to do it.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: You want to get, you want to do so good.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_00]: You want to get it hit every time.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: But like you said, the game is about failure.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: And you can't take, you're at bat in the defense.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: And you can't take your mistakes on defense into your bets.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: And for me, it was more like telling myself,
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm competing the whole time, I'm not worrying about.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, by swing or like, what you get in that box, you got to look for your fastball and put a good swing on it or have your approach or whatever works for you.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're up there thinking about anything, it's just gonna get make you that much slower and get you off that pitch and get you thinking even more.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: So to be able to mentally clear your mind and get positive thoughts, I mean, just with anything, not just hitting, I mean anything, any sport, I mean, if you,
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: if you look at basketball, if you're about to take a jump shot, you're like, oh, they're saying going in, it's probably ain't going in.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: Same with the same with the same with being at the plate.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: You got to be positive.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: You got to let y'all, I'm hitting, I'm getting a fastball here.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: I ain't missing it.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to keep repeating that repeat and that repeat and that.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think you do all your work in the cage and you work on the stuff on the drills and the cage, whatever, whatever works for you.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then once you go in the game, you got to compete.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you don't want to see the pit, you don't want to let the pitcher know that you're grinding into your struggling, you know?
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: You want to be like, yeah, this is me versus you.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm about to put you on a street.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you gotta have that confidence.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: Cause if you don't, if you don't, it's like your job, you're defeated before you can get in the bus, you know?
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: and you're worrying about other stuff when you should be worrying about hitting a fastball, you know, and that's when one guy being in trouble.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I was just, I was just, for me, I always try to put positive thoughts and, you know, read positive things and just get the mental, the mental state of the game and it's huge because if you have any doubt, it's probably going to not go your way.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: Guys I just I'm gonna say this out loud like we're literally like Mike I can't tell you how appreciative we are in our audience too Like we're literally talking baseball Mike's right.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm having to go like this is just a super surreal moment
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: for our listeners and for us, super appreciative, man.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: I have a couple of questions and they're not related to the game, they're kind of whatever, and this will kind of be getting closer wrapping us up.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: So, when you look back at high school, you're talking about three sport athlete or whatever, I've got a freshman in high school, and I've got two eighth graders.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: I had a buddy of mine who's actually an agent, he played at University North Carolina, he's very involved in the league, and I was telling him to be coming on, and I said, what would you ask a guy like Mike Trout?
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to hear what Mike would have to say, if he ran into his high school self on an elevator ride.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: And he had an opportunity to look at himself as a high school kid and prepare him for the approach that he should have over the next 20 years or whatever it is, you know, 15 years of his life.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: What would you, what kind of thoughts would you have?
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: Toof.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: This is, this is deep here.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't know if I would, I mean, I wouldn't be, I don't know.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's some, there's some stretches where like, I wish I would have did stuff differently, but you know, married two kids.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: I've been having a great career so far.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how much I would tell.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, Gly, to be honest, just say on the second man.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_03]: There's nothing at you.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm sorry.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm a first dollar old favorite about the process.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything about the process that was like unexpected that you didn't necessarily know was coming?
- 49:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the biggest thing in my career that was tough for me was I was homesick.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: When I left my family, my girlfriend now, my wife now, but it was leaving them.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I went from having somebody cook me dinner, do my laundry to just,
- 49:53[SPEAKER_00]: you're on your own buddy and it got it got tough like a month and two two three three weeks in like two a point where I was like man is this is this for me you know now look back and I'm like what was I thinking like I mean you know it all worked out obviously but I think that was that was the toughest thing for me as a high school kid 17 years old being away from my family friends and you know on your own and I just got thrown into the real world real quick so that was yeah that's cool yeah the other question I have
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the other question I have is in relation to what is behind you, which is trout national.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_01]: You've been working on this golf club for a long time.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: I know you got to be super proud of it.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's a big part of, you know, your passion project or whatever.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: But my question is this, if you had to get a force them together, and this is just you, you can bring anybody along to go play around the golf with it could be, you know, celebrities, non celebrities, golfers, non golfers, athletes, whatever.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: What would your, your ideal force and look like?
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: The force cars.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah,
- 50:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go my deal for some would be me, tiger.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty nice nice.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, that was a power version right there.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if that ever happened, just text current and we'll all catty.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to have to go with that with that one.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: Damn.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: That is a problem.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_02]: Put that one on a baseball card fanatics.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_02]: That'd be pretty sweet.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: anybody anybody got anything else.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: I ask it.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: I ask this question to every single guest.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: We have a lot of kids at listen to the show.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a lot of dads at coach kids.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_02]: If you could give young baseball players one piece of advice eight nine 10 11 12 13 14 years old.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_02]: What would you give it to them about baseball and the game of baseball?
- 51:39[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, they're at that age to play in the game.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: They love it.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: They got a dream to be right where you're sitting.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: What would be your advice?
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_00]: I would say just have fun.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think I know it seems simple, but nowadays you see a lot of you're seeing a lot of people and parents that are like pushing their kids to be something they want them to be and not letting the kid grow up to how they should be.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's for me is that you got to be able to go out there and enjoy playing the game and it goes by
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: years go by so quick and just enjoy every minute of it because it's going to be a blanket with I when you're you're just going to be, you know, hopefully make it to the big leagues and another another thing of advice is just first of all for me, like I got I was raised by two teachers, you know, Google and school and work hard.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you if you put that mindset into into that and believe in yourself, a lot of people,
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: doubted me, you know, being from the East Coast, you know, not seeing the best competition, I believe in yourself.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's that's my advice that I'm young kids.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome.
