- 0:00Speaker 1: It's to.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome everybody. Welcome to this week's edition a snow Real
- 0:20Speaker 2: Dot Show Episoumber seven and sixty three, ver September twenty six,
- 0:24Speaker 2: twenty twenty four. Welcome to this week's edition of ass
- 0:28Speaker 2: r T You. I am one After the show, I
- 0:31Speaker 2: am Jeff Peck joined every single week from my host
- 0:34Speaker 2: one only about Troy Franklin, Doctor Trey. There cinematic segments
- 0:38Speaker 2: here to stay my friend.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Oh god, I I really do. Like I call me crazy,
- 0:45Speaker 1: but that was one of my favorite things during the
- 0:48Speaker 1: pandemic and to kind of bring them back, and you know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: nobody produces those things like like WWE, so I really
- 0:58Speaker 1: really enjoy them. And uh, heck, I learned this week
- 1:02Speaker 1: that Cody Rhodes moved to California at eighteen and took
- 1:05Speaker 1: acting lessons, So hey, gotta get your money, your money's
- 1:09Speaker 1: worth out of that stuff somehow.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, let's get right into it. So the SmackDown segment,
- 1:15Speaker 2: the face to face confrontation between Roman Rains and Cody
- 1:18Speaker 2: Rhodes at Georgia Tech University, which was tipped off earlier
- 1:21Speaker 2: that day by wrestle votes on Twitter, said that they
- 1:25Speaker 2: had filmed a segment. He didn't or she didn't. I
- 1:27Speaker 2: believe he's a he wrest of bolts now he's doing
- 1:29Speaker 2: radio with Bill after. But he didn't say like it
- 1:34Speaker 2: was gonna air on SmackDown that night or whatever. But
- 1:36Speaker 2: I had already been tipped off on him. And they
- 1:38Speaker 2: aired the segment on SmackDown, and I watched it and
- 1:41Speaker 2: I was riveted. I was entertained. I thoroughly enjoyed it,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and of course all things that is social media nowadays,
- 1:50Speaker 2: you saw a lot of people that loved it. You
- 1:52Speaker 2: saw people that disliked it, and I was like, man,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I really like this, So let's talk about on this week.
- 1:57Speaker 2: This is a show. I want to hear what doctor
- 1:59Speaker 2: Treace say about open it up with the show. It
- 2:01Speaker 2: seems like you were on the same plane field as
- 2:04Speaker 2: I am on this one, Doctor Trey. I love the
- 2:07Speaker 2: segment and I thought it was awesome. I love that
- 2:12Speaker 2: they are doing these NXT styled segments now on the
- 2:17Speaker 2: main roster of Ron SmackDown. What I mean by that
- 2:20Speaker 2: is Jeremy Borash, who was one of the people responsible
- 2:23Speaker 2: for directing producing this segment between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes,
- 2:28Speaker 2: would do it all the time down in NXT, especially
- 2:30Speaker 2: over the last like three or four years, you've seen
- 2:32Speaker 2: it like Legato del fount Tasma, we do a bunch
- 2:35Speaker 2: of stuff that was cinematic. The DiAngelo family does a
- 2:39Speaker 2: bunch of stuff that's cinematic. It was things that you
- 2:42Speaker 2: typically see from NXT that's now carried itself up over
- 2:45Speaker 2: to the main roster. And I loved it. So this
- 2:48Speaker 2: is nothing that has been kind of new, but new
- 2:51Speaker 2: to the ron SmackDown audiences for those that watch NXT.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I thoroughly enjoyed it, Doctor Trey. I was heavily entertained.
- 2:59Speaker 2: They don't need to do this all the time. They
- 3:02Speaker 2: need to do it when it's right and justified. And
- 3:04Speaker 2: I thought this was one of those situations where it
- 3:06Speaker 2: was Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I thought it made a lot of sense because, I mean,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you have your arguably your two faces of your company
- 3:14Speaker 1: that were involved in a two year long rivalry culminating
- 3:18Speaker 1: a WrestleMania and now they're teaming up against their common
- 3:22Speaker 1: enemy and we needed some questions answered. I thought this
- 3:25Speaker 1: was a very logical way to do it, because it's
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's gonna be impassioned. And as much as you and
- 3:31Speaker 1: I both love live television. Doing stuff like this allows
- 3:37Speaker 1: you to get your point across clearly and concisely, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: you can articulate it to the audience that you know
- 3:45Speaker 1: exactly the way you want it done. You know, you
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I do this podcast and we do a live
- 3:51Speaker 1: We don't do multiple takes, we don't do a whole
- 3:53Speaker 1: lot of editing. It is literally what we say comes
- 3:57Speaker 1: out boom, goes right to the audience. You know, there
- 4:00Speaker 1: are times that I wish I'm like, man, I wish
- 4:02Speaker 1: I could go back and tweak that or change that,
- 4:04Speaker 1: or I wish I didn't say that. This is just
- 4:07Speaker 1: that way for the audience to actually understand why Cody's
- 4:13Speaker 1: doing this, why Rome is doing this, and that makes
- 4:15Speaker 1: a lot of sense. And you know, Jeremy Borash maybe
- 4:18Speaker 1: one of the most underrated wrestling minds. I mean, you
- 4:21Speaker 1: go back to stuff. I mean, he was one of
- 4:23Speaker 1: the focal points during you know, the Hardy deletion campaign
- 4:27Speaker 1: in TNA. You know, it was him and Matt Hardy
- 4:30Speaker 1: that put a lot of that stuff together. And when
- 4:33Speaker 1: he came to WWE, I was hoping he would be
- 4:36Speaker 1: utilized in the right way, and it seems like he's
- 4:38Speaker 1: found his niche and is able to, you know, kind
- 4:42Speaker 1: of take what he took in TNA and bring it
- 4:44Speaker 1: to a stage like w W. It's being really well done.
- 4:47Speaker 2: P w Insider reported via Wrestling Purists on Twitter quote
- 4:52Speaker 2: Jermy Borash produced the Roman Rings Cody Rhodes face off
- 4:54Speaker 2: that aired on last night SmackDown. This was written on
- 4:56Speaker 2: Saturday Morning. WA's director of character development, Rob Fee was
- 5:00Speaker 2: also on the scene for the segment. Is He and
- 5:01Speaker 2: Borash have been collaborating on projects and segments like this
- 5:05Speaker 2: as of late. In addition to Jeremy Borash and Rob,
- 5:08Speaker 2: Paul Hayman was involved in the face to face segment
- 5:11Speaker 2: between Rains and Roads on last Night SmackDown and personally
- 5:14Speaker 2: directed the talent for the scene. Again, I loved it.
- 5:19Speaker 2: For those who did not enjoy it or don't want
- 5:22Speaker 2: it in their wrestling, I simply ask why if you're
- 5:25Speaker 2: one of those people hit us up on X at
- 5:27Speaker 2: SRT you podcast, because I'm genuinely confused as to why
- 5:30Speaker 2: people would not be interested in this type of entertainment
- 5:34Speaker 2: or way to explain a storyline or further a storyline,
- 5:39Speaker 2: because it's what you see on television. It's a dramatized scene.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It's cinematic, it's different, it's outside the box. It checked
- 5:48Speaker 2: all the boxes and it answered questions that we were
- 5:51Speaker 2: looking for as to why they would do this is
- 5:54Speaker 2: their apprehension there is there is still disdain for one another,
- 5:58Speaker 2: but they see a common enemy. And the enemy of
- 6:02Speaker 2: the enemy of my enemy is my friend is playing
- 6:05Speaker 2: out on our screen right now, and it's it was great.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I mean, if there was one little tweak I would
- 6:10Speaker 2: say about the entire thing, Doctor Trey is. I wasn't
- 6:14Speaker 2: the biggest fan of the music involved, like front and
- 6:18Speaker 2: back of it, probably could have done without, but I
- 6:22Speaker 2: understand why they do it. But I may have tweaked
- 6:26Speaker 2: that one thing. But from start to finish thoroughly entertain
- 6:30Speaker 2: it checked all the boxes for me, and I enjoyed
- 6:32Speaker 2: it as if you were watching from home, and I
- 6:33Speaker 2: want to see more of it going forward.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there's only so many Creed songs we
- 6:38Speaker 1: can use in.
- 6:39Speaker 2: WWE WWE desire please bring it.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Back, like I'll get here, I'll get here, as like
- 6:45Speaker 1: Jeff pet going God. I wish they'd use my sacrifice.
- 6:49Speaker 3: You are with me, you know, But I like, yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 3: like the music I mean, I mean since Jim Johnson left,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I mean, the music for WW hasn't been up to
- 7:00Speaker 3: I don't think the music's gotten better since Jim Johnson left.
- 7:03Speaker 1: The company or they let him go. But yeah, I
- 7:06Speaker 1: mean there's always little small tweaks and things like that.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Like for one, here's the one thing I like. I
- 7:10Speaker 1: like that they alluded to Roman Reigns as college football career.
- 7:14Speaker 1: That's something we've never touched on really in the development
- 7:18Speaker 1: of Roman Reigns as a character over the last ten
- 7:20Speaker 1: years on TV. Was his football career, and that was
- 7:23Speaker 1: something that they went to right away and it made
- 7:26Speaker 1: a lot of sense. And I love that Paul Hayman's
- 7:28Speaker 1: there because nobody knows the history of Paul Haym but
- 7:32Speaker 1: those history of wrestling as well as Paul Hayman, especially
- 7:34Speaker 1: when it comes to the Samoans and the Rhodes family, Like,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I mean, he can nail this stuff. I mean, as
- 7:41Speaker 1: much as you know Roman and Cody our second borderline,
- 7:45Speaker 1: third generation superstars, like they don't know everything their dads did,
- 7:51Speaker 1: but you know, Paul Hammond's been around for a lot
- 7:53Speaker 1: of their father's careers as well. He can tie it
- 7:55Speaker 1: all up. Make it look pretty and then you got
- 7:58Speaker 1: you know, like Jeremy Boresh there, who's done a lot
- 8:00Speaker 1: of crazy stuff in wrestling. When it comes to the
- 8:02Speaker 1: cinematic stuff, I thought it was really well done. The
- 8:05Speaker 1: music is when it is because it's just like what
- 8:08Speaker 1: we haven't had a really good theme song since Bobby Route,
- 8:10Speaker 1: so you know it is.
- 8:11Speaker 2: What it is true. That is for true. Though, I
- 8:13Speaker 2: would say the new Intercontinental Champion, who we will talk
- 8:16Speaker 2: about here next, Jayuso, has a very catchy tune. So
- 8:19Speaker 2: Doctor Trey and I both like the cinematic segments here
- 8:23Speaker 2: want to see more of it. When it's done appropriately,
- 8:26Speaker 2: it can really transcend very well with the viewer at home,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and I enjoyed it. Again, if you're someone that did
- 8:32Speaker 2: not hit us up on Twitter at SORG podcast, because
- 8:35Speaker 2: I have no idea why someone would not like that,
- 8:38Speaker 2: I mean I literally saw which it is, it's X,
- 8:41Speaker 2: it's Twitter. It makes sense. People were like this was garbage,
- 8:43Speaker 2: and I was like what really, I didn't get that
- 8:46Speaker 2: at all. So we have a new Intercontinental Champion, Doctor
- 8:50Speaker 2: Treys jay Usso, which I will say surprisingly defeated bron
- 8:53Speaker 2: Breaker this past Monday night, and I say surprisingly personally,
- 8:56Speaker 2: because I thought bron Breaker was going to get a
- 8:58Speaker 2: decent run with a championship. Well, I think it was
- 9:00Speaker 2: a little over fifty days. But when you think about things,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you take a step back. Jayus So being crowned the
- 9:05Speaker 2: un You Account champion makes a ton of sense. He's
- 9:07Speaker 2: one of the top merchandise sellers with the company right now.
- 9:10Speaker 2: He is certainly on a swing to go upwards on
- 9:12Speaker 2: this trajectory, and they needed to do something. They needed
- 9:15Speaker 2: to put some sort of championship on him. It's reminiscent
- 9:17Speaker 2: of La Night on the SmackDown Sign, who has a
- 9:19Speaker 2: ton of popularity, and that's how you're seeing it play
- 9:22Speaker 2: out on the raw side. But when I take a
- 9:24Speaker 2: further step back dout to Trey, I tend to think
- 9:27Speaker 2: about where we were four years ago, twenty twenty pandemic,
- 9:31Speaker 2: great times, awesome year. People loved it, couldn't do jack
- 9:35Speaker 2: shit and just stay at home because of a near
- 9:38Speaker 2: flu like symptoms. Nonetheless, you've got jay Uso. He gets
- 9:44Speaker 2: a title shot, a random title shot for the Hell
- 9:46Speaker 2: in a Cell pay per view in October. I think
- 9:49Speaker 2: he won a Battle royal to win that, right, or
- 9:52Speaker 2: it was like a six pack challenge. I couldn't remember
- 9:54Speaker 2: what it was. Nonetheless, he goes from somebody that wasn't
- 9:58Speaker 2: utilized on television for the last like four or five
- 10:00Speaker 2: months because Jimmy Uso was out from injury. He got
- 10:03Speaker 2: injured during the russell Mania thirty six Triple Threat Ladder
- 10:06Speaker 2: match for the tag team titles that did not involve
- 10:10Speaker 2: any tag teams for those that are historians, and jay
- 10:14Speaker 2: Usa was like regulated to background scenes. I remember they
- 10:18Speaker 2: were doing like the Intercontinental Title Tournament which Daniel Bryan
- 10:21Speaker 2: aj Styles were in the finals on that one, and
- 10:23Speaker 2: like jay us was in the background. We're in like
- 10:25Speaker 2: an USO's hat and he wasn't showcased on television, but
- 10:28Speaker 2: out of nowhere, he is now the number one contender
- 10:30Speaker 2: for the w Championship against Roman Reigns at Helen a
- 10:33Speaker 2: Cell And it did not make sense. But as at
- 10:37Speaker 2: the time, and then as time went on, you saw
- 10:40Speaker 2: the character development of jay Uso really take off. You
- 10:43Speaker 2: saw jay Uso become more confident. The inn ring skills
- 10:46Speaker 2: were always there, the personality was always there, but you
- 10:49Speaker 2: got to see that showcase through really really well, and
- 10:53Speaker 2: over the last year and a half, when he turned
- 10:55Speaker 2: on the blood Line, left the blood Line, became his
- 10:57Speaker 2: own man main Evan jay Uso on the Monday Night
- 10:59Speaker 2: Rod Brand. He's really taken off. He is very super
- 11:03Speaker 2: over with the fans. He is extremely popular. He is
- 11:07Speaker 2: very confident in the ring, He is very confident in
- 11:09Speaker 2: the microphone. He is very confident in his character. And
- 11:13Speaker 2: I watched that segment crowd reaction. It isn't Mick Foley
- 11:19Speaker 2: winning the WE Championship in nineteen ninety nine surprisingly over
- 11:22Speaker 2: the Rock on Raw, but it was up there. I
- 11:25Speaker 2: mean that crowd reaction was great. I got goosebumps, which
- 11:28Speaker 2: is rare for me to get nowadays in professional wrestling.
- 11:31Speaker 2: It was an emotional moment. It was a very cool moment.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I love the stuff they aired on social media post
- 11:36Speaker 2: Raw because they were running up against the block there
- 11:38Speaker 2: because they need to get to Law and Order SVU
- 11:40Speaker 2: very very quickly, and you can just see it was
- 11:43Speaker 2: all genuine and heartfelt, and to me, it was watching
- 11:47Speaker 2: the end of this four year climbing away where jay
- 11:50Speaker 2: Usa went from low mid carter tag team wrestler. So
- 11:53Speaker 2: what I never looked at is that could be more,
- 11:55Speaker 2: anything more than a tag team star Doctor Trey to
- 11:59Speaker 2: one of the most over popular stars in all of
- 12:02Speaker 2: professional wrestling. How do you look back at these last
- 12:04Speaker 2: four years of jay Uzo now that he's our Intercontinental Champion.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's it's a pretty incredible run. Because
- 12:13Speaker 1: when you're part of a tag team, it's it's really hard,
- 12:15Speaker 1: especially if we've been in a highly successful arguably the
- 12:19Speaker 1: greatest tag team of the modern era for WWE, especially
- 12:23Speaker 1: when your partner's your twin brother, to break out, it's
- 12:28Speaker 1: not really breaking out of your out of the partner's shadow,
- 12:32Speaker 1: like you have to get the fans to separate you
- 12:35Speaker 1: from your brother. I mean, the one thing with the
- 12:37Speaker 1: usas you and I talked about this for a long time,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I had a hard time telling them apart for years
- 12:43Speaker 1: because they dressed the same, they had the same hairstyles,
- 12:46Speaker 1: the whole thing. You saw them gradually start to form
- 12:50Speaker 1: their own characters. And then you know, Jimmy and Jay
- 12:53Speaker 1: have both had their issues. You know, one might it
- 12:55Speaker 1: might get arrested, one's injured, you know, and then they
- 12:58Speaker 1: just didn't wwe didn't to do with him without the
- 13:01Speaker 1: other one. And it kind of took that match with
- 13:05Speaker 1: Roman to kind of define who jay Uso can be.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And he's been very very smart about this because he's
- 13:15Speaker 1: taken different elements. And you know, I've alluded this to
- 13:18Speaker 1: this with Cody Rose and some other guys over over
- 13:19Speaker 1: the last few years, is take some elements from people
- 13:22Speaker 1: who were highly successful and make it your own. Like
- 13:24Speaker 1: I see a lot of macho man Randy Savage in
- 13:29Speaker 1: this jay Uso, and the crowd response is natural. He's
- 13:34Speaker 1: a great ring worker, his charismas come out. I mean,
- 13:39Speaker 1: the only thing I hate is the nickname. I hate
- 13:41Speaker 1: saying main event jay Huso because it's just kind of
- 13:43Speaker 1: a cheesy nickname. But outside of that, this run has
- 13:45Speaker 1: been fantastic and this match was like you've been Like
- 13:49Speaker 1: you mentioned the Elia Night thing. It was one of
- 13:50Speaker 1: those things where like if they don't pull the trigger now,
- 13:54Speaker 1: and they brought up several times during the match, which
- 13:56Speaker 1: kind of foreshadowed the conclusion for me. But this was
- 13:59Speaker 1: like a six title shot, you know, at a singles
- 14:02Speaker 1: titling add one one yet like if you weren't going
- 14:04Speaker 1: to pull the trigger now, when were you going to
- 14:06Speaker 1: do it? But the crowd reaction was great, The whole
- 14:09Speaker 1: night was great, just a really really cool moment for
- 14:12Speaker 1: somebody who's basically gone out of their way to bust
- 14:16Speaker 1: their ass and get on this grind and do something
- 14:18Speaker 1: uncomfortable and make their own mark in the world of
- 14:22Speaker 1: professional wrestling.
- 14:24Speaker 2: What do you think is the long term here for
- 14:26Speaker 2: what is the ceiling for jay Uso? Is he future
- 14:29Speaker 2: world champion material? Because I think he is, But I'm
- 14:34Speaker 2: also concerned, like did we potentially reach the ceiling because
- 14:37Speaker 2: I look back at these last four years and the
- 14:39Speaker 2: growth and development of him as a star, as a wrestler,
- 14:42Speaker 2: as a character has been amazing. But it's the same
- 14:45Speaker 2: thing I think about with La Night. It's like, I
- 14:47Speaker 2: look at those two guys and I go, can I
- 14:48Speaker 2: ever see them as a world champion? And I think
- 14:51Speaker 2: in most years I would say yes, I do. But
- 14:56Speaker 2: I also think that the depth of the roster is
- 14:58Speaker 2: so strong right now that it is not a slam
- 15:01Speaker 2: dunk short of thing that Jay Usso or even l
- 15:03Speaker 2: A Knight, who is you know, very interestingly here just
- 15:07Speaker 2: kind of morphed into this conversation as well, because I
- 15:09Speaker 2: do feel like they're the same person on different brands,
- 15:12Speaker 2: could be a world champion at some point.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I think both these guys, and you know, we've always
- 15:20Speaker 1: regarded the you know, the Intercanyle title, the US title
- 15:23Speaker 1: is like stepping stones, like, hey, if you can have
- 15:25Speaker 1: a successful run here, it shows that you can be
- 15:29Speaker 1: a potential world champion. I think sometimes it takes, you know,
- 15:34Speaker 1: luck of the draw, like you might get a run
- 15:36Speaker 1: where hey, all of a sudden, like a couple guys
- 15:38Speaker 1: are injured, the positions have kind of switched around the
- 15:42Speaker 1: pecking order, so to speak, to switched around, and all
- 15:44Speaker 1: of a sudden, you're elevated into that main event spot
- 15:47Speaker 1: and you get that opportunity to be world champion. I mean,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I don't think you and I can ever say that
- 15:52Speaker 1: they ever thought that Daniel Briant could be a world
- 15:54Speaker 1: champion back when he came to WWE, you know, and
- 15:57Speaker 1: he got his opportunity see him punk to a degree,
- 15:59Speaker 1: Jeff already to a degree. But they were able to
- 16:02Speaker 1: capitalize on their moments and the crowd reaction. The crowd
- 16:05Speaker 1: got behind them and they became undeniable that they got
- 16:09Speaker 1: that spot. And I think Jay and even l Knight
- 16:11Speaker 1: to a degree or in that where it's like, could
- 16:14Speaker 1: I see them as a world champion yes, would it
- 16:16Speaker 1: take some unfortunate situations for them to get put into
- 16:22Speaker 1: that spot. Probably it may be a little bit of
- 16:25Speaker 1: you know, just bad luck for some other guys for
- 16:28Speaker 1: them to get that opportunity. But both guys are are
- 16:32Speaker 1: well liked by the crowd. La Knight looks like your
- 16:36Speaker 1: prototypical world champion. Jay USO's a little bit that, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: kind of like out there outside the box mentality. But
- 16:43Speaker 1: I do think both guys could be a world champion,
- 16:47Speaker 1: But I just don't think like that's in their cards.
- 16:49Speaker 1: If you laid them out, if WW said, hey, who
- 16:53Speaker 1: hasn't been a world champion that we think we can
- 16:56Speaker 1: put the belt on, I don't know if they're at
- 16:58Speaker 1: the top of that list, but they're at least on
- 17:00Speaker 1: the list now.
- 17:01Speaker 2: It's very cool to see the old school fan of me.
- 17:04Speaker 2: The Intercontinental Championship was typically reserved for, you know, the
- 17:07Speaker 2: workhorse title which you always hear and Dad Biwie videos, whatever,
- 17:12Speaker 2: but it was also a stepping zone. It was an
- 17:15Speaker 2: opportunity to see if somebody could run as a world champion,
- 17:18Speaker 2: and people that had this upward momentum you would see
- 17:21Speaker 2: all the time have that championship whether it be Brett Hart,
- 17:24Speaker 2: Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Steve Austin as and and you're
- 17:28Speaker 2: starting to see that return here with Gunther and Sammy
- 17:31Speaker 2: Zain recently hold the Intercontinental Championship. Obviously, Gunther is the
- 17:35Speaker 2: world champion. I think Sammy Zein is a world champion material.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I think with the Intercontinental title, in the United States Championship,
- 17:41Speaker 2: I think l A. Knight and Jay Usso if they
- 17:43Speaker 2: are able to succeed with these championships, these secondary titles,
- 17:47Speaker 2: this could be a true test if they can run
- 17:48Speaker 2: with the World Championship and continue to build a popularity
- 17:51Speaker 2: as well, which is an old school style of booking,
- 17:52Speaker 2: which is very fun to see during Triple H's time
- 17:56Speaker 2: now as the head of creative for World Rest Entertainment,
- 17:58Speaker 2: because I feel like that is something that has been
- 18:00Speaker 2: kind of lost over the last fifteen twenty years. Obviously,
- 18:02Speaker 2: there's been times where that has happened, Doctor Trey pointing
- 18:05Speaker 2: out some really good examples like Jeff Hardy holding the championship.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I think of CM Punk hold the Intercontinental Championship one
- 18:11Speaker 2: time as well. You know, these are people that use
- 18:14Speaker 2: those opportunities as stepping zones. Chris Jericho when he held
- 18:17Speaker 2: the Intercontinental Championship a little bit later on in the
- 18:20Speaker 2: two thousands, that was the use as a stepping zone.
- 18:22Speaker 2: So I like that it's back. It could be utilized
- 18:25Speaker 2: as that stepping stone championship or as an opportunity to
- 18:27Speaker 2: help elevate a star as someone that is one to
- 18:32Speaker 2: keep an eye on, like a bron breaker. But I'm very,
- 18:34Speaker 2: very happy for Juso. His four year clim has been
- 18:37Speaker 2: incredible and I don't think I've seen someone develop so
- 18:41Speaker 2: well in professional wrestling over the last four years like
- 18:44Speaker 2: jay Uso truly has. So congratulations to him for overcoming
- 18:48Speaker 2: the last obstacle or the most recent obstacle in being
- 18:51Speaker 2: crowned Intercontinental Champion. Keeping with wwee here Doctor Trey, as
- 18:58Speaker 2: we see a new error big again with Jusos Intercontinental Champion.
- 19:02Speaker 2: We saw an error close this past Tuesday night as
- 19:05Speaker 2: NXT on USA ended. NXT goes to the CW starting
- 19:10Speaker 2: this Tuesday. They'll be in Chicago seeing punks that I
- 19:13Speaker 2: don't know if anybody has heard about that yet, but
- 19:16Speaker 2: you know, I was watching NXC this past week. I
- 19:18Speaker 2: saw the video they did to recap the last five
- 19:21Speaker 2: years on the USA Network, and I was like, man,
- 19:24Speaker 2: this is such a big deal that they're this error
- 19:28Speaker 2: is coming to a close, because from fourteen to nineteen,
- 19:33Speaker 2: twenty fourteen to twenty nineteen, NXT was just a one
- 19:37Speaker 2: hour show on the WA network that got a cult
- 19:40Speaker 2: like following. It got moved to two hours and on
- 19:43Speaker 2: the USA Network to compete with AW a month prior
- 19:46Speaker 2: to AW Dynamite launching, which we'll talk about their five
- 19:49Speaker 2: year anniversary ad next week's show, and that was set
- 19:52Speaker 2: to compete for the Wednesday Night Wars. They ended up
- 19:54Speaker 2: losing that they got moved to Tuesday nights. We had
- 19:57Speaker 2: Triple H have health issues. The two point zero era began,
- 20:01Speaker 2: uh Triple H return, Black and Gold was back, and
- 20:05Speaker 2: it had its a lot of ups, it had a
- 20:07Speaker 2: lot of downs, and it was starting to ride and
- 20:10Speaker 2: it is riding a really good wave of momentum that
- 20:13Speaker 2: is reminiscent of the days of NXT that I truly
- 20:16Speaker 2: enjoyed during that twenty fourteen to twenty nineteen stretch. When
- 20:20Speaker 2: you look back at the last five years, Doctor Trey,
- 20:23Speaker 2: what do you think about when it comes to the
- 20:25Speaker 2: NXT brand? Ultimately, was this the right move. I feel
- 20:28Speaker 2: like this was the right proper step for the brand
- 20:30Speaker 2: to continue to grow. Was there more ups than downs?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Was there more downs than ups? How do you look
- 20:37Speaker 2: back at these last five years as they shift from
- 20:39Speaker 2: the USA network to the CW network.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I mean, it was the right move for the growth
- 20:44Speaker 1: of NXT. I mean, obviously, you've got an extra hour
- 20:47Speaker 1: of television, You've got a little bit broader audience. You know,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you got to kind of experience for those for those
- 20:55Speaker 1: younger talents, a little bit of what you would experience
- 20:58Speaker 1: on you know, on raw or backdown, and it was
- 21:01Speaker 1: kind of you started seeing more of the main roster
- 21:04Speaker 1: people matriculate back to NXT during that time because you're
- 21:09Speaker 1: in a competition with another company, where when it was
- 21:13Speaker 1: just on the network, they weren't really competing with anybody else. Overall, though,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I still think it's there's more downs than there were
- 21:22Speaker 1: ups in comparison to their time on the network, because
- 21:25Speaker 1: I felt like when they were just on the W network,
- 21:28Speaker 1: it was just incremental growth the entire time. There weren't
- 21:31Speaker 1: really any I mean, obviously there's gonna be slight bumps
- 21:35Speaker 1: in the road, but you know, the triple h you know,
- 21:39Speaker 1: health issue and then the rebranding, you know that that
- 21:44Speaker 1: kind of messed the show up for a while. It
- 21:46Speaker 1: took quite a while for some of the fans, Like
- 21:50Speaker 1: I'm one of them. I dipped out of the show
- 21:52Speaker 1: for like a year because it was so bad. And
- 21:56Speaker 1: over the last you know, six months, year, year and
- 21:59Speaker 1: a half, it's slowly gotten better in it's and you're right,
- 22:03Speaker 1: it's getting closer to that premiere black and Gold era
- 22:07Speaker 1: that we saw like on the network and then when
- 22:09Speaker 1: it first came over to USA. But you know, for
- 22:12Speaker 1: the most part, like to me, I still think of
- 22:16Speaker 1: NXT being a WW network show because of how bad
- 22:22Speaker 1: that two point zero re rebranding was when it was
- 22:25Speaker 1: under the Vince and Bruce Pritcher control there, you know,
- 22:28Speaker 1: right around twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Those early shows on the USA network from like September
- 22:36Speaker 2: to I want to say, like well just before the
- 22:39Speaker 2: Pandemic movie March. But there was strekes there from like
- 22:41Speaker 2: September December where it was like really really fun and
- 22:44Speaker 2: cool and I had a really good vibe to it.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I miss mar Ronaldo, I missed Beth Phoenix, I missed
- 22:49Speaker 2: Nigel McGinnis. I think Vic Joseph and Booker t have
- 22:52Speaker 2: done a good job, but I feel like that Free
- 22:54Speaker 2: Person booth was one of the best in all of
- 22:56Speaker 2: professional wrestling, and we clearly see that with Nigel McGuinness
- 22:59Speaker 2: now in aw you in so many ways, both on
- 23:01Speaker 2: the microphone and now back in the Squared Circle as well.
- 23:03Speaker 2: That was a ton of fun. And what's crazy is
- 23:09Speaker 2: I think there was one period of time where it
- 23:11Speaker 2: was like in twenty nineteen you had there was like
- 23:15Speaker 2: a segment where it had all the Undisputed era William
- 23:18Speaker 2: Regal and Keith Lee in a shot. And then two
- 23:22Speaker 2: years later, fast forward to Dynamite and they did this
- 23:25Speaker 2: backstage segment where you had all the Undisputed era William
- 23:29Speaker 2: Regal and Keith Lee and it was just mind blowing
- 23:32Speaker 2: to see that because it felt like WW retreated so
- 23:36Speaker 2: much and there was so much damage done to the
- 23:38Speaker 2: NXT brand at that point that it was hard to
- 23:41Speaker 2: process and hard to continue to move forward. As an
- 23:45Speaker 2: NXT fan. I remember that last show just before the
- 23:50Speaker 2: World shut Down on Wednesday night they aired in the PC,
- 23:53Speaker 2: and remember Charlotte fair Flair showed up to take out
- 23:57Speaker 2: Ria Ripley or whatever, and it was a really cool
- 23:58Speaker 2: crowd in the PC, a lot of fun. It's a
- 24:01Speaker 2: really good show. And then after that thing's changed, things
- 24:04Speaker 2: definitely got weird during the pandemic for professional wrestling as
- 24:07Speaker 2: a whole when they returned and then they were trying
- 24:10Speaker 2: to find their footing as two point zero. I mean it,
- 24:14Speaker 2: it was tough. That was a tough watch for a
- 24:16Speaker 2: period of time. It certainly felt like it was a
- 24:19Speaker 2: Vince Rickman driven w which is something at that point
- 24:23Speaker 2: I think we've all learned, I think a majority of
- 24:26Speaker 2: us have learned is outdated at this point and not
- 24:29Speaker 2: something that fans wanted. And NXT prior to that was
- 24:32Speaker 2: everything that fans wanted. NXT losing the fan base during
- 24:36Speaker 2: the pandemic definitely hit hard for them. I think was
- 24:39Speaker 2: hard to fur their storylines. I think it was hard
- 24:41Speaker 2: to gain the same excitement for the matches and the
- 24:45Speaker 2: segments and the storylines that you had in the past.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But overall, they've they've really done a good good job
- 24:52Speaker 2: over the last year and a half, the last year
- 24:54Speaker 2: especially to really find that voice, to find that confidence
- 24:58Speaker 2: again as a brand, as a standalone brand, and I'm
- 25:01Speaker 2: excited for them to move to the CW. But this
- 25:04Speaker 2: I think if I looked back at the last five years,
- 25:06Speaker 2: doctor Trey, and it's like, Okay, how do you summarize
- 25:08Speaker 2: these last five years NXC on USA, I would say
- 25:12Speaker 2: it was just growth. There was good growth, there was
- 25:15Speaker 2: really bad growth. There was substantial growth, there was growth
- 25:18Speaker 2: that went backwards, there was growth that really went forwards.
- 25:21Speaker 2: But that's the word that I would use, is just
- 25:24Speaker 2: growth for the NXT brand. And I'm excited to see
- 25:27Speaker 2: where things go now with CW. There's been reports out
- 25:30Speaker 2: there to that WA wants to put a little bit
- 25:33Speaker 2: more focused on the NXT brand, but we've heard that before,
- 25:35Speaker 2: so hopefully that happens again and actually stays this time.
- 25:39Speaker 2: But overall, what would be your way that you summarize
- 25:43Speaker 2: if you had to pick a word for the last
- 25:44Speaker 2: five years in the USA network for NXT.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I like growth because in my head I was
- 25:53Speaker 1: thinking of like if you've ever planted a vine and
- 25:59Speaker 1: you watch the buy and grow, you don't really control
- 26:03Speaker 1: where it goes. It can go up, it can go left, right,
- 26:06Speaker 1: it can go but you can get into some bad
- 26:08Speaker 1: stuff and you gotta trim it and that's how I
- 26:10Speaker 1: kind of figured, that's how I kind of look at
- 26:12Speaker 1: NXT on USA. There was a lot of growth, but
- 26:14Speaker 1: like you said, some of it was bad growth. Some
- 26:16Speaker 1: of it was you know, this thing's getting into my
- 26:19Speaker 1: sewage line, this thing is getting this thing's going all
- 26:21Speaker 1: over the place. I gotta trim this back. And I
- 26:23Speaker 1: immediately go to Tony D'Angelo because when Tony d first
- 26:27Speaker 1: came on the scene doing the whole you know, it
- 26:29Speaker 1: was much more of an Italian monster g but it
- 26:31Speaker 1: was so prototypical, so gimmicky and bad. Like I remember
- 26:36Speaker 1: you and I talked about off air. I'm like, this
- 26:38Speaker 1: character is horrible, But you've seen the growth of Tony
- 26:42Speaker 1: D over this time and now you're like, yeah, I
- 26:45Speaker 1: buy into Tony d. I buy into the family. I
- 26:48Speaker 1: like the whole thing. So it is one of those
- 26:50Speaker 1: things where like some growth is growth for the sake
- 26:53Speaker 1: of growth is not always good because it can be
- 26:57Speaker 1: like mold, it'll just be bad. But overall, I think
- 27:02Speaker 1: that they've grown the product, they've grown the brand, and
- 27:04Speaker 1: now when people come up to the main roster, they
- 27:07Speaker 1: have a little bit more of a following than they did.
- 27:10Speaker 1: You know, maybe just on the network era.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that is true. I mean ultimately it helped further
- 27:15Speaker 2: the NXT brand and for those who weren't watching the
- 27:18Speaker 2: WA network if they were subscribers or not, and then
- 27:21Speaker 2: they got an opportunity to see in the USA network.
- 27:22Speaker 2: It allowed us an opportunity to see a lot of
- 27:24Speaker 2: stars grow there's that word again and carry it over
- 27:29Speaker 2: to the main roster. I mean. One of those very
- 27:32Speaker 2: early episodes on NXC and USA end of December, Riada
- 27:35Speaker 2: Ripley defeating SHANEA Basler, which is a very memorable moment
- 27:39Speaker 2: from this era where she's being hoisted up on the
- 27:41Speaker 2: on people's shoulders that are on the ring, celebrating. And
- 27:44Speaker 2: then look at where Rita Ripley is today and she
- 27:46Speaker 2: is one of the most over and maybe the most
- 27:49Speaker 2: over professional wrestling star in the entire industry today, which
- 27:52Speaker 2: is really really exciting to see. She got to start
- 27:55Speaker 2: at NXT and helped elevate the brand with the NXC
- 27:58Speaker 2: on USA era. So that comes to that has come
- 28:00Speaker 2: to a close as of this past Tuesday, they moved
- 28:04Speaker 2: to the CW starting this upcoming Tuesday, again seeing Punk
- 28:08Speaker 2: guest referee for the trick Williams Ethan Page Match, and
- 28:11Speaker 2: you've also got Roxane Perez taking on Julia All on
- 28:15Speaker 2: a very pay per view heavy edition of NXT on
- 28:18Speaker 2: the CW network. Keeping with the USA network Dot Trey.
- 28:22Speaker 2: One of the shows for WWE that recently moved over
- 28:24Speaker 2: there was Friday Night SmackDown. A report came out coming
- 28:28Speaker 2: to us from Wrestle Votes that w will look to
- 28:31Speaker 2: add a third hour to w SmackDown at the start
- 28:33Speaker 2: of the new year. USA Network will broadcast the new
- 28:36Speaker 2: three hour version of SmackDown beginning on Friday, January third.
- 28:41Speaker 2: This would be more in line with what we saw
- 28:43Speaker 2: with the w RAW early thoughts here at Doctor Trey
- 28:47Speaker 2: on SmackDown potentially and I'm just gonna throw well, I'll say,
- 28:51Speaker 2: reportedly moving to three hours starting on starting in January
- 28:55Speaker 2: twenty twenty five.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I mean, it makes sense from a revenue standpoint, because
- 28:59Speaker 1: you're losing an hour of advertising revenue by only doing
- 29:03Speaker 1: a two hour shows compared to Robbie and three and
- 29:07Speaker 1: USA you know, they know they're getting in bed with
- 29:10Speaker 1: I mean, this is not foreign concept to them. They're like, hey,
- 29:13Speaker 1: we know what we can draw with a three hour show.
- 29:15Speaker 1: We may not know what that those ratings will be
- 29:18Speaker 1: on a Friday night as opposed to Monday nights, but
- 29:21Speaker 1: we do know what we can charge for, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 1: for advertising, so it makes sense on that end. I'm
- 29:27Speaker 1: also happy about it because one of the concerns we
- 29:31Speaker 1: had when they when we first announced that Raw was
- 29:33Speaker 1: going to go to two hours was, Hey, there's a
- 29:35Speaker 1: lot of guys that you know, have been built up
- 29:38Speaker 1: because of that extra hour. Hey, at least now we
- 29:41Speaker 1: know that they may have to shift some people around
- 29:43Speaker 1: on the rosters to fill that extra hour over on
- 29:46Speaker 1: the SmackDown, But that's the show that kind of needs
- 29:49Speaker 1: some extra fill in, like you and I have been
- 29:52Speaker 1: complaining about the Cody Rhads title run because they haven't
- 29:55Speaker 1: built anybody else up to really challenge them with that
- 29:58Speaker 1: extra hour of programming. Now you can kind of build
- 30:01Speaker 1: up some new stars on SmackDown and maybe get some
- 30:04Speaker 1: more a little bit more compelling television, because I think
- 30:05Speaker 1: SmackDown may be the weakest of the three shows over
- 30:09Speaker 1: the past six months.
- 30:11Speaker 2: It's amazing how much I have flipped on this entire thing.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I mean, back in the day when they moved to
- 30:16Speaker 2: three hours, I absolutely hated it. You hated it, I
- 30:19Speaker 2: hated it. It did not make any sense. The way
- 30:21Speaker 2: that Vince handled those three hours, or creative under Vince
- 30:24Speaker 2: for three hours was like a mixed mosh. It was
- 30:27Speaker 2: like no further character development stuff that again wand and
- 30:30Speaker 2: carry forward. But under the Triple H creative regime, Doctor Trey,
- 30:34Speaker 2: it has made a ton of sense. The stuff on Raw, Like,
- 30:36Speaker 2: think about all the wrestlers who have been able to
- 30:39Speaker 2: get more TV time that we may not have seen
- 30:41Speaker 2: if it was for two hours. Bronson Reid comes to mind,
- 30:45Speaker 2: American made comes to mind. It's phenomenal to see this.
- 30:50Speaker 2: And then I watch Raw and I watched SmackDown. I'm like, man,
- 30:53Speaker 2: two hours. There are stars that I want to see
- 30:56Speaker 2: more of. I want to see more of Logato del Phantasma.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I want to see more of Carmelo Hayes, I want
- 31:01Speaker 2: to see more of Diy. I want to see the
- 31:03Speaker 2: tag team division on SmackDown developed more. And that's where
- 31:07Speaker 2: we're at. And WWA has won me over that if
- 31:09Speaker 2: they could put on three hours of programming and make
- 31:11Speaker 2: it make sense and make it worth my time, that
- 31:13Speaker 2: it is worth my time, and that is what they've accomplished.
- 31:16Speaker 2: So I'm excited for the two hour to three hour move,
- 31:19Speaker 2: you have to figure. I know there's reports out there
- 31:21Speaker 2: with the move to Netflix on January the sixth, twenty
- 31:24Speaker 2: twenty five, that WWA won't be holded to doing a
- 31:29Speaker 2: two hour show or three hour show. There's going to
- 31:31Speaker 2: be the reports are right now that if it's two
- 31:33Speaker 2: hours and twenty five minutes, it's two hours and twenty
- 31:34Speaker 2: five minutes. If it's three hours, it's three hours. If
- 31:37Speaker 2: it's three hours and eight minutes, it's three hours and
- 31:39Speaker 2: eight minutes. That they have basically free rain when they
- 31:41Speaker 2: air live on Netflix. And that's exciting because it's it's
- 31:47Speaker 2: got to allow them to put together a well organized
- 31:50Speaker 2: show with really no time constraints per se. I mean,
- 31:53Speaker 2: I guess they're going to pick and choose their commercials.
- 31:54Speaker 2: We'll learn more about that as we get closer. But
- 31:57Speaker 2: the character development this all, and that's kind of been
- 31:59Speaker 2: the theme here, going back to the cinematic matches with
- 32:02Speaker 2: or the cinematic segment with the Rains and Roads on
- 32:04Speaker 2: the show and jay usso an annixc on USA era.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Here we are again with the character development, and that's
- 32:10Speaker 2: what matters a lot to me as a fan is.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I could watch in ring stuff all day long. I
- 32:15Speaker 2: could watch a great match, but if I don't give
- 32:17Speaker 2: a shit about the wrestlers in the ring or their
- 32:20Speaker 2: development or how they've come to this point, or why
- 32:22Speaker 2: they've come to this point, why this match is taking place,
- 32:25Speaker 2: then it doesn't hit the same when you watch the
- 32:27Speaker 2: entire five course meal take place all at once, where
- 32:31Speaker 2: there's a few there's a story, there's a care, there's
- 32:34Speaker 2: some depth, and there's a great in ring work all
- 32:36Speaker 2: taking place at the same time. So I'm excited about
- 32:39Speaker 2: to move doctor Trey, and I never thought I would
- 32:41Speaker 2: get there, but here we are.
- 32:42Speaker 1: My friend, Yeah, I'm excited about it too, And I'm
- 32:46Speaker 1: really intrigued by the whole raw Netflix deal because, like
- 32:50Speaker 1: you said, like you know, the window is two hours.
- 32:54Speaker 1: If it goes to ten, two, five, three hours, it
- 32:58Speaker 1: is it is. I am just waiting for the first
- 33:00Speaker 1: time they run short, and they run an hour and
- 33:03Speaker 1: fifty minutes, and you see the backlash, you know on
- 33:07Speaker 1: social media, like oh they shortest ten minutes. It's like yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 1: but they went over fifteen twenty minutes to previous four
- 33:13Speaker 1: or five shows. So just take it as you just
- 33:16Speaker 1: know the first time they run one hour and fifty
- 33:18Speaker 1: five minutes, there's gonna be a backlash on it. But
- 33:21Speaker 1: you know, I'm excited about about both shows because it's
- 33:24Speaker 1: new territory for both entities. So anything's good for character
- 33:29Speaker 1: development because I like the I don't know about I
- 33:33Speaker 1: don't know how it is in Northeast, but right now
- 33:35Speaker 1: it's fair season and circus season kicking off in the South,
- 33:39Speaker 1: and like like I, like you said, I can watch
- 33:42Speaker 1: great wrestling every single day, just like I could go
- 33:47Speaker 1: to a circus and enjoy the hell of a circus.
- 33:50Speaker 1: But I'm not gonna follow the circus every single week
- 33:54Speaker 1: just because of the performances. I need to know why
- 33:57Speaker 1: people are doing stuff, or I need to know some
- 33:59Speaker 1: background story, or I need to care about the performers
- 34:04Speaker 1: for me to follow them. And that's why I think,
- 34:06Speaker 1: you know, sometimes we miss an other, you know, programming
- 34:10Speaker 1: is we don't. I don't know why I care. I
- 34:12Speaker 1: don't know why these guys were bitter rivals and now
- 34:15Speaker 1: they're shaking hand. I don't. I don't understand this stuff.
- 34:18Speaker 1: You kind of have to explain to me, like I'm
- 34:19Speaker 1: a four year old at times for me to go
- 34:22Speaker 1: Oh that makes sense. Now I know why they're doing this,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and that goes ties into the cinematic stuff we were
- 34:28Speaker 1: talking about when we can start the show. It ties
- 34:30Speaker 1: into why are Butcher and Shamus fighting? In like why
- 34:34Speaker 1: is Butch jumping Shamous again? Why is Braun? Why are
- 34:37Speaker 1: Bronson and Braun? I mean, are they fighting over the
- 34:40Speaker 1: name Braun? And why is Braun breaker not involved in
- 34:43Speaker 1: Bronton Reid and Braun Stroman and just have it all
- 34:46Speaker 1: out broad for all. I don't know I need, but
- 34:50Speaker 1: do you tell me why? And I go, Okay, this
- 34:52Speaker 1: makes sense, and now I'm gonna watch it, Like I'm
- 34:55Speaker 1: excited for Bronton, Reid and Braun Strowman in a last
- 34:58Speaker 1: man standing match because of all the stuff they've done
- 35:01Speaker 1: over the last few weeks, which I don't think I
- 35:03Speaker 1: would have given a crap about two years ago. It's
- 35:06Speaker 1: just they've developed these characters, so now I care that
- 35:10Speaker 1: they're fighting and they're brawling all over the place. I'm
- 35:12Speaker 1: excited for it, and I think that just shows the
- 35:15Speaker 1: difference between what we were getting under Vince and what
- 35:18Speaker 1: we're getting on Trileh.
- 35:19Speaker 2: And now I say it all the time when it
- 35:21Speaker 2: comes to WAE when it comes to aw when it
- 35:22Speaker 2: comes to professional wrestling as a whole. At the end
- 35:25Speaker 2: of the day, all I want as a fan make
- 35:27Speaker 2: it make sense to me, and that's what I want,
- 35:30Speaker 2: and that's what WWE has been doing. And I'm excited
- 35:32Speaker 2: for the jump for two to three hours if they
- 35:34Speaker 2: continue to make it make sense, and I feel like
- 35:37Speaker 2: I have confidence in this group that they continue will
- 35:39Speaker 2: they will continue to do that as time goes on.
- 35:43Speaker 2: When SmackDown makes that move potentially or reportedly to two
- 35:48Speaker 2: to three hours in January, there's one huge name on
- 35:51Speaker 2: the SmackDown roster right now that may or may not
- 35:54Speaker 2: be part of those three hours, and that is one
- 35:56Speaker 2: of our favorite wrestlers that we've ever covered in the
- 35:58Speaker 2: history of this entire podcast, and that is one Kevin Owens.
- 36:03Speaker 2: According to Fight Full Select via Wrestling wrestle Peris on Twitter,
- 36:07Speaker 2: Kevin Owens has been approached about regarding a new WE contract.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Aw IS expected to make Owens a big offer becomes available.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Kevin Owens has not yet re signed with w WEE
- 36:16Speaker 2: with his deal expected to expire at the end of
- 36:18Speaker 2: this year. Again, aw IS long held a major interest
- 36:22Speaker 2: in Owens doctor Trey. We're gonna do a little bit
- 36:26Speaker 2: of a contract round up here because there's the names
- 36:28Speaker 2: that I want to cover, Luca Bros, Daniel Garcia, Miro
- 36:31Speaker 2: and with w wee's methodology raise right now when it
- 36:34Speaker 2: comes to contracts. But starting with Kevin Owens, your thoughts
- 36:38Speaker 2: on the latest reports and where you think he ends
- 36:40Speaker 2: up in twenty twenty five.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Yeah, this one, it's a little tricky at times because
- 36:45Speaker 1: his to his best friends are wrestlers, ones in AW
- 36:50Speaker 1: one's in WWE. I mean, Adam Cole and Kevin Owens
- 36:53Speaker 1: are best friends, and so is Kevin and Sammy's ain't
- 36:56Speaker 1: Normally that would make it a little trickier for me
- 36:59Speaker 1: to pay. But I just can't see Owens looking at
- 37:02Speaker 1: adw and looking at all this stuff going on and going,
- 37:05Speaker 1: you know what, I'm better off there. I mean, we've
- 37:08Speaker 1: we've talked about it now with you know, it's a
- 37:11Speaker 1: lighter road schedule for WWE. It's really good pay for WWE.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Your best friends there, The guy running the company is
- 37:20Speaker 1: the guy that's handpicked you to be world champion in
- 37:23Speaker 1: two different brands. To me, as much of as people
- 37:28Speaker 1: want to make up about how much AW wants Kevin Owins.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I just don't see Owens leaving WWE, so I think
- 37:33Speaker 1: he stays.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he stays as well. I think one
- 37:36Speaker 2: of the reasons why is it's a good time to
- 37:39Speaker 2: be a WWE superstar, right, I mean, if you're to
- 37:42Speaker 2: jump to AW, we'll get to Grant Slam here in
- 37:45Speaker 2: a little bit. There are some red flags about all
- 37:47Speaker 2: elite wrestling that are concerning if I was a professional wrestler,
- 37:51Speaker 2: I totally understand if you're like Mercedes Monein and you're
- 37:54Speaker 2: Ricochet and you want to get that opportunity to get
- 37:56Speaker 2: out of the WE fold and feel like what AW
- 37:58Speaker 2: is doing is better for you. And most certainly I
- 38:01Speaker 2: don't think AW is going to be in this hole
- 38:03Speaker 2: for the entire eternity as a brand. I think there's
- 38:07Speaker 2: obviously plenty of room to grow for it to succeed.
- 38:10Speaker 2: But if I'm Kevin Owens and I'm making a business,
- 38:12Speaker 2: I'm making a family decision. And we talked about the
- 38:15Speaker 2: reports O the last several weeks that the house show schedule,
- 38:18Speaker 2: the house show loops are going to be reduced. I
- 38:20Speaker 2: think staying in w W is the decision I would
- 38:22Speaker 2: want to see and as a fan of Kevin Owens,
- 38:24Speaker 2: I want to see him remain in W as well,
- 38:26Speaker 2: Doctor Trey.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I think the Kevin Owens now, if you had asked
- 38:31Speaker 1: me years ago, if AW was around, when you know,
- 38:35Speaker 1: his Ring of Honor contract was up, I would have
- 38:38Speaker 1: said Kevin Owh was a probably a better fit for
- 38:39Speaker 1: AW than WW. But the Kevin Owans we have now,
- 38:43Speaker 1: the different you know, the talker, the wrestler, the performer,
- 38:46Speaker 1: everything that goes into what Kevin Owens is, I think
- 38:49Speaker 1: he's better suited for WW than AW. Not to mention,
- 38:54Speaker 1: Triple H has selected him the NC champion. Triple H
- 38:58Speaker 1: pushed for him to be heavyweight champion, Like you got
- 39:02Speaker 1: to have more faith in your guy, Triple H than
- 39:05Speaker 1: Tony Kahn because the argument you can say Tony Cohn's
- 39:09Speaker 1: dropped the ball with several of your friends when they
- 39:12Speaker 1: made the move from WWAWS. I just think for Kevin
- 39:15Speaker 1: it just makes more sense to stay where he's at.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's never a slam dunk going AW. Now, then
- 39:20Speaker 2: you're gonna see like this massive character development. So I
- 39:23Speaker 2: think creatively they are very much slacking, and I would
- 39:26Speaker 2: want to see Kevin Owen's remain in w W versus
- 39:29Speaker 2: going to el Elite Wrestling talk about W ANDAW. There
- 39:33Speaker 2: were some reports out there early last week or late
- 39:35Speaker 2: last week that the Lucher Bros Had signed Penta and
- 39:39Speaker 2: Ray Phoenix had signed with W and we was starting
- 39:41Speaker 2: to work on merchandise for them. Those reports were refuted.
- 39:45Speaker 2: They are still under contract with AW, but the expectation
- 39:48Speaker 2: is is that they end up in WWE. This is
- 39:51Speaker 2: something that we talked about a couple of weeks ago,
- 39:52Speaker 2: Doctor Trey. That is the latest movement with the Lucher Bros.
- 39:56Speaker 2: I'm excited to see them come to w and see
- 39:58Speaker 2: how w utilizes them.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm excited for them because I do I think,
- 40:03Speaker 1: you know, it's one of the things that we've talked about.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I mean, God, we've been doing the show forever. You know,
- 40:09Speaker 1: who's the next Ray Mysterio, Who's the next Luchen Door
- 40:11Speaker 1: that they can really market and they can really push
- 40:14Speaker 1: And you know, they've they've literally thrown every lucidor at
- 40:18Speaker 1: us over the last decade to try and somehow fill
- 40:21Speaker 1: that that Ray Mysterio role. And correct me if I'm wrong,
- 40:26Speaker 1: But isn't Dragon Lee related to Ray Phoenix, and I
- 40:30Speaker 1: thought he was like brothers Rush okay, but you know,
- 40:36Speaker 1: he was tagging with Ray Phoenix at one point in
- 40:40Speaker 1: Triple A for a while because I think they won
- 40:42Speaker 1: the belt, and then they immediately had to strip him
- 40:44Speaker 1: of the belt because Dragon has signed with w W.
- 40:46Speaker 1: It's it's it's a weird thing, but you know, you
- 40:49Speaker 1: get something like like Penta who is charismatic as hell
- 40:53Speaker 1: and never really says a word except for his one
- 40:55Speaker 1: little catchphrase, Ray Phoenix one of the best high flyers
- 40:59Speaker 1: in the world. Like that's something that ww can really
- 41:02Speaker 1: market and really make exciting for their Latin American fan base.
- 41:09Speaker 1: I just wonder, you know, I are they gonna get
- 41:11Speaker 1: paired with somebody to kind of do the talking for them?
- 41:15Speaker 1: Are they gonna get you know, are they gonna get
- 41:16Speaker 1: paired with Santos? Are they gonna get thrown in to
- 41:18Speaker 1: the LWL? Are they gonna get thrown in some mixed
- 41:20Speaker 1: mash thing? But that's the only thing I think they
- 41:23Speaker 1: may need when they come to WWE. Outside of that,
- 41:25Speaker 1: like in ring work, character merchandise, I think they get
- 41:29Speaker 1: the fall package for WWE.
- 41:32Speaker 2: There's some concern right now in regards to Daniel garcia
- 41:35Speaker 2: status with AW. This comes to us from Dave Meltzer
- 41:38Speaker 2: via wrestler Wressell Peuris on Twitter. Quote confidence that Daniel
- 41:42Speaker 2: Garcia is going to resign with AW reportedly not as
- 41:45Speaker 2: strong as a month ago. Meltzer says, as far as
- 41:48Speaker 2: what's going to happen with him Daniel Garcia, I would
- 41:50Speaker 2: say this. I would say that this that the almost
- 41:53Speaker 2: serviety of the confidence, strong confidence that he was signing.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I wouldn't say that it's as strong. I wouldn't say
- 41:58Speaker 2: that he's leaving either, but it's not as strong as
- 42:00Speaker 2: it was a month ago, Doctor Trey. Daniel Garcia's status
- 42:05Speaker 2: is an interesting case because I thought he would return
- 42:08Speaker 2: AW based on everything that I've seen on television and
- 42:10Speaker 2: just I figured that AW looked at him as you know,
- 42:14Speaker 2: a long term investment. It seems that he is at
- 42:17Speaker 2: least interested. Talked to we as of right now as
- 42:21Speaker 2: we record this show, your thoughts here on where Daniel
- 42:24Speaker 2: Garcia potentially ends up and where do you want to
- 42:26Speaker 2: see him end up?
- 42:28Speaker 1: I think right now, if you're a young person in
- 42:30Speaker 1: AAW and you look around the wrestling world, you're like, Okay,
- 42:34Speaker 1: Am I really going to progress here and move up
- 42:36Speaker 1: the ladder? Or is ww either right fit for me?
- 42:40Speaker 1: The Ethan Page stuff has probably thrown a huge wrench
- 42:45Speaker 1: into a lot of aw's plans. And because you got
- 42:47Speaker 1: a guy like Ethan Page, who I'm not gonna say
- 42:50Speaker 1: he was underutilized in AEW, but you know he wasn't
- 42:53Speaker 1: featured very much. You know, he had some opportunities, but
- 42:56Speaker 1: then just kind of got pushed the side oft times.
- 42:59Speaker 1: And then now he goes to NXT and blows up.
- 43:02Speaker 1: If you're a Daniel Garcia and you look at that
- 43:05Speaker 1: and go I could do the same thing. So that's
- 43:08Speaker 1: got to throw a little bit of a wrench into
- 43:09Speaker 1: aw's plans because if I'm Garcia, I have to take
- 43:12Speaker 1: a look at that and then does my style fit
- 43:16Speaker 1: in what WWE does or am I better suited for AW.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I think they protected themselves with that booking of the
- 43:23Speaker 1: MJF match because MGF gets the win, Garcia kind of
- 43:26Speaker 1: wins the battle or the war, so to speak. Because
- 43:29Speaker 1: if Garcia leaves, hey, MJF still you know, beat the guy.
- 43:32Speaker 1: But if he comes back, hey, I'm the one who
- 43:33Speaker 1: put MJF on the shelf. I still think Garcia is
- 43:38Speaker 1: probably better suited for AEW, but you know, I wouldn't
- 43:43Speaker 1: be shocked if he bet on himself and went to WWE.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it's surprising that he and AW haven't
- 43:52Speaker 2: come in agreement yet because I would have figured coming
- 43:54Speaker 2: out of all Out on this angle that they aired
- 43:56Speaker 2: with M Jeff that he would have capitalized on. But
- 43:58Speaker 2: he has not been seen since all Out, which leads
- 44:02Speaker 2: me to believe that there is a decent chance that
- 44:04Speaker 2: he ends up in WA. It's surprising, it really is,
- 44:09Speaker 2: because I think AW has done Daniel Garcia very well,
- 44:12Speaker 2: and I think that they would continue to do him
- 44:14Speaker 2: very well in the future. I think they again look
- 44:17Speaker 2: at him as long term investments. So this is one
- 44:20Speaker 2: of those instances where you know, I think most of
- 44:24Speaker 2: the time I probably would lean towards you, Dan Garcia,
- 44:27Speaker 2: and WWE would make a lot of sense. I actually
- 44:28Speaker 2: think Dan Garcia remaining in AW makes a ton of sense.
- 44:32Speaker 2: So I'm surprised that he isn't staying with AW as
- 44:37Speaker 2: of right now. And I think there's again red flags
- 44:39Speaker 2: there because what are we three weeks removed from all Out,
- 44:42Speaker 2: and again they have not capitalized on that storyline. They
- 44:45Speaker 2: have not even furthered it on dynamite collision or rampage,
- 44:48Speaker 2: which leads me to believe that maybe he is in
- 44:50Speaker 2: fact WWE bown. I think his contract comes up at
- 44:53Speaker 2: the end of October. News on the AW front. According
- 44:57Speaker 2: to fight Full Select Occurtesy of Wressell Puris on X,
- 45:03Speaker 2: Miro has requested his release from AAW. Miro has not
- 45:08Speaker 2: been used since the end of December of twenty twenty three,
- 45:11Speaker 2: I want to say at the World's End pay per view.
- 45:13Speaker 2: More on the report from fight Full Select, stating there
- 45:17Speaker 2: was some consideration internally to use Miro in the AW
- 45:19Speaker 2: All in Casino Gauntlet, and he had pitched working with
- 45:22Speaker 2: John Moxley earlier this year. Miro and AW were unable
- 45:25Speaker 2: to get on the same page creatively, something that became
- 45:28Speaker 2: a common occurrence for the two sides in recent years.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Miro came to All Lead Wrestling. Doctor Trey is somebody
- 45:34Speaker 2: that was being underutilized in WE as Russev. When he
- 45:38Speaker 2: came to AW, I really thought that this is someone
- 45:41Speaker 2: that would hold the AW World Championship at some point,
- 45:43Speaker 2: and it certainly seemed like he was being booked that
- 45:45Speaker 2: way and then he basically fell off the face of
- 45:48Speaker 2: the earth. I think he had like four matches in
- 45:50Speaker 2: two thousand and two. Twenty two he had just a
- 45:54Speaker 2: couple of matches. He had returned one collision launch in
- 45:56Speaker 2: twenty twenty three, and he's been nowhere to be found
- 45:59Speaker 2: into the twenty four I think he is under contract
- 46:02Speaker 2: until I think he's had like a five year extension,
- 46:05Speaker 2: which takes it to about twenty twenty eight or so
- 46:07Speaker 2: according to reports. I think it makes sense for both
- 46:11Speaker 2: to part at this point because it's not working for
- 46:15Speaker 2: either side. But when you look back at his run
- 46:18Speaker 2: and all elite wrestling, should it be coming to an
- 46:20Speaker 2: end and he becomes a free agent, this may be
- 46:23Speaker 2: the most disappointing of them all.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Yeah, as you're saying that, I was trying to think
- 46:29Speaker 1: of anybody else that's made the jump that's been this
- 46:33Speaker 1: disappointing in the sense of, you know, we all know
- 46:36Speaker 1: Miro Keilee, Yeah, Keith Lee probably, but like, I mean,
- 46:40Speaker 1: he's one of the most talented guys you know around
- 46:43Speaker 1: Like he's a big man that can move, he can wrestle,
- 46:47Speaker 1: you know, he's got some charisma. I mean, you go
- 46:49Speaker 1: back to when I was in New Orleans for WrestleMania
- 46:51Speaker 1: back in twenty nineteen. RUCEV Day was everywhere, like they
- 46:57Speaker 1: were chanting it in the streets of New or Lens
- 47:00Speaker 1: for WrestleMania, and you know, WW never capitalized on it,
- 47:03Speaker 1: and he made the move to AW and like you said,
- 47:05Speaker 1: we all thought he'd be, you know, a huge star,
- 47:07Speaker 1: a huge push, and then he comes in as the
- 47:10Speaker 1: best Man, which was the weirdest gimmick for a while.
- 47:15Speaker 1: But then I thought he had kind of found a
- 47:18Speaker 1: niche with the Redeemer gimmick. But I mean, the guy
- 47:21Speaker 1: hasn't wrestled a match for you in ten months. I mean,
- 47:24Speaker 1: and he's not injured, and you know, obviously he's not
- 47:28Speaker 1: in the best headspace because he's going he went through
- 47:29Speaker 1: a divorce recently. I mean, he's you gotta either just
- 47:33Speaker 1: go you know what, let's just cut bait. You go
- 47:35Speaker 1: your way, we'll go our way, and that way we
- 47:37Speaker 1: stop paying you. But you know, everybody expects it. If
- 47:41Speaker 1: he does get released it he might just jump right
- 47:43Speaker 1: to WW. That might snatch him up. But that may
- 47:46Speaker 1: not happen either. So I mean, he may have to
- 47:48Speaker 1: go the independent route for a little bit, and you know,
- 47:52Speaker 1: kind of you know, refined himself before he gets that
- 47:55Speaker 1: call from from Triple Hing Company.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and who knows where this goes from here. There's
- 48:00Speaker 2: I think he's been working on television shows. I think
- 48:02Speaker 2: he was on like some sort of CBS trauma. I
- 48:05Speaker 2: want to say Blue Bloods, but it's like one of
- 48:07Speaker 2: those cop shows that he was doing. There as like
- 48:12Speaker 2: a like a minor character here and there. I think
- 48:15Speaker 2: he did a couple episodes. I don't know if he
- 48:17Speaker 2: necessarily has the interest or the itch to continue in
- 48:20Speaker 2: professional wrestling, and if he goes back to w WEE
- 48:25Speaker 2: is is I mean, I could see him not going
- 48:28Speaker 2: back to w W. I could see him going to
- 48:29Speaker 2: DNA or something. It's been extremely disappointing all in all.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I mean, his booking the Creative, there's obviously something there
- 48:38Speaker 2: that he and AW don't get along when it comes
- 48:40Speaker 2: to the Creative and it's on It's unsure why, because
- 48:45Speaker 2: I think he had the opportunity to when he came
- 48:47Speaker 2: in the company to be an AW world champion and
- 48:49Speaker 2: he just is not capitalized and he's been one of
- 48:51Speaker 2: the most disappointing. Keith Lee has been one of the
- 48:54Speaker 2: most disappointing, but I think that has a lot to
- 48:55Speaker 2: do more with with injuries than anything, and we'll see
- 49:00Speaker 2: where things end up here. Obviously, there's been no granted
- 49:03Speaker 2: release from Only Wrestling to Miro since this story broke
- 49:07Speaker 2: late last week. The last bit of contract news, I
- 49:10Speaker 2: want to discuss your Doctor before we get into a
- 49:12Speaker 2: quick review of aw Grand Slam that took place last
- 49:15Speaker 2: night on the TBS network. According to Wrestling Observer newsletter
- 49:19Speaker 2: via Wrestle Purists on Twitter, w has started to work
- 49:22Speaker 2: on at least fifteen new deals for talent whose contracts
- 49:25Speaker 2: would be up over the next several months. That is
- 49:27Speaker 2: a change in contrast where a lot of contracts were
- 49:30Speaker 2: nearly coming up or came up, and WWE was like
- 49:34Speaker 2: trying to sign people very very quickly, whether it be
- 49:36Speaker 2: Becky Lynch or Chad Gable that came to mind. Now
- 49:39Speaker 2: they're trying to get ahead of it, and I think
- 49:41Speaker 2: some of the names I saw was like Rhea Ripley,
- 49:43Speaker 2: Kevin Owens obviously being one of them. This is the
- 49:46Speaker 2: right way of business, doctor track. I want to see
- 49:49Speaker 2: this roster stay intact. This has been a really good
- 49:51Speaker 2: roster and I can't think of anybody who's being underutilized
- 49:54Speaker 2: and should get that move to AW. So hopefully Dowey
- 49:59Speaker 2: is able to lock up some of these talents that
- 50:00Speaker 2: we've been enjoining watching on w DOETV as a plate.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I never understood WWE's contract negotiation strategy in the past,
- 50:09Speaker 1: where it's like you literally hear people say like, oh no,
- 50:12Speaker 1: my contract's up in a month and I haven't heard
- 50:14Speaker 1: from them. Like that to me is a little kind
- 50:18Speaker 1: of shady and underhand, like you're trying to make the
- 50:21Speaker 1: talent nervous that they might not get renewed and so
- 50:24Speaker 1: that way you think they'll take the whatever deal you
- 50:26Speaker 1: throw at them. It does. That's not how you negotiate
- 50:30Speaker 1: things in modern times, and especially when you have direct
- 50:34Speaker 1: competition that can pay as well as you do. I mean,
- 50:39Speaker 1: if if the new TV deal comes out for AW,
- 50:42Speaker 1: they're gonna have a little more influx of cash so
- 50:44Speaker 1: they can pay as much as the competition, if not more,
- 50:47Speaker 1: you know, and you still have TNA that doesn't mind
- 50:50Speaker 1: throwing a little bit of money around if it makes
- 50:52Speaker 1: sense as well. I mean, just it's it's it's negotiating
- 50:55Speaker 1: in good faith, like hey, we like you we know
- 50:58Speaker 1: your contracts coming up in six months, you know, start
- 51:00Speaker 1: thinking of in the parameters of what you want, and
- 51:03Speaker 1: we'll start doing the same thing, and we'll see we can't,
- 51:05Speaker 1: you know, head this off of the path. I mean
- 51:07Speaker 1: to have some be like Becky Lynch who's having a
- 51:09Speaker 1: match at WrestleMania, who's contracts up right after it and
- 51:14Speaker 1: you hadn't reached out. I mean, that's kind of shady
- 51:17Speaker 1: for somebody that's meant so much for your company. So
- 51:21Speaker 1: if they're trying to be more proactive about it going forward,
- 51:23Speaker 1: I think that's a good move for the company standpoint,
- 51:26Speaker 1: and you don't ever make somebody feel like they're unwanted,
- 51:30Speaker 1: at least heading into that negotiation period.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a lot of influence, I think from
- 51:35Speaker 2: AW being a very strong second to them in the
- 51:40Speaker 2: United States for wrestling promotions, where you know, Tody, we
- 51:45Speaker 2: would be very lazy, not give a shit about renewals,
- 51:51Speaker 2: and you would hear that often from wrestlers where it
- 51:53Speaker 2: would be coming up towards the end and they're like, oh, yeah,
- 51:55Speaker 2: we got to talk about that contract and then no
- 51:56Speaker 2: contract came through or somebody wasn't doing their job and
- 51:59Speaker 2: tell relations. We should not let anybody walk to free
- 52:04Speaker 2: agency without giving them an offer and starting contract negotiations.
- 52:08Speaker 2: If as a company they want to keep those folks
- 52:10Speaker 2: under the wa M Brella, then they should be doing
- 52:12Speaker 2: everything they possibly can to keep them under that umbrella.
- 52:16Speaker 2: One of those names was Ricochet. Ricochet was negotiate with WE.
- 52:20Speaker 2: He told him that he wanted to see what a
- 52:22Speaker 2: free agency world was going to be like, and they
- 52:25Speaker 2: let him go in their merry way. So they even
- 52:27Speaker 2: started a little bit earlier and kind of learned from
- 52:29Speaker 2: the mistakes with Chad Gable, Becky Lynch and anybody else
- 52:33Speaker 2: in the past. Remember like seeing Punk when he was
- 52:35Speaker 2: on the ass with w WE for ten years, he
- 52:37Speaker 2: talked about a time where he would like go up
- 52:39Speaker 2: to Vince and asked about his contract and It's was like, oh, yeah,
- 52:42Speaker 2: we got to talk about that, And then they never
- 52:43Speaker 2: talked about it, and we would get closer and closer
- 52:45Speaker 2: to the date where his contract was coming up, and
- 52:48Speaker 2: then it would be rushed and then they would resign.
- 52:50Speaker 2: I think that had a lot to do with the
- 52:51Speaker 2: lack of competition. And now there's competition and the ball
- 52:54Speaker 2: is in the workers court, it's in the court of
- 52:57Speaker 2: the wrestler where it should be and give them an
- 52:58Speaker 2: opportunity to max their earnings potential with a renegotiated or
- 53:04Speaker 2: an extension or a new contract depending on how they
- 53:07Speaker 2: are coming to a arresting promotion or staying with arrestling
- 53:09Speaker 2: promotion in the future. So it's nice to see w
- 53:12Speaker 2: trying to keep people under the w umbrella. Last thing
- 53:17Speaker 2: I want to discuss here on this week's This to
- 53:18Speaker 2: the Show, Doctor Trey is Last night was AW Grand
- 53:21Speaker 2: Slam from Arthur Ashy Arena in Queens, New York. A
- 53:27Speaker 2: couple of notes on that one. Danielson and Nigel go
- 53:30Speaker 2: back into time and a very fun opener. Hook retires
- 53:33Speaker 2: the FTW Championship. Finally, the Young Bucks, will Os Brain
- 53:38Speaker 2: Kyle Fletcher put on a tag team clinic. MVP Monteal
- 53:42Speaker 2: Montel Vontavius Porter is all Elite that John Moxley defeats
- 53:47Speaker 2: Darby Allen for an AW World Championship Championship shot at
- 53:50Speaker 2: Russell Dream he will take on Brian Danielson. Those were coming.
- 53:53Speaker 2: The couple of the news and notes from that one,
- 53:56Speaker 2: Doctor Trey Murah main Yukaza Kazaki did not have a
- 53:59Speaker 2: great match that was not a fun segment overall. Did
- 54:02Speaker 2: you get into opportunity to watch Grant Slam and what
- 54:04Speaker 2: were some of your takeaways?
- 54:05Speaker 1: Yeah? I watched a lot of it, you know obviously,
- 54:08Speaker 1: and you know this now and having when you have
- 54:10Speaker 1: a small child or my kids and toddler running around
- 54:13Speaker 1: the house and does kind of throw up things out
- 54:15Speaker 1: of whack and inside out too. Came out on Disney Plus,
- 54:18Speaker 1: so I had to battle Sammy Franklin on what we
- 54:21Speaker 1: were actually gonna watch last night. They still did not
- 54:25Speaker 1: really sell me on why Brian Daniels and wrestle Look
- 54:29Speaker 1: Brian answer Nigel Againess, that was great. I loved it.
- 54:31Speaker 1: It was very throwback for me, very nostalgic, and it
- 54:35Speaker 1: showed Nigel could still go great. Still did explain to
- 54:39Speaker 1: me why Brian Danielson is okay to wrestle Nigel but
- 54:41Speaker 1: couldn't wrestle Darby still have explained that to me. But
- 54:44Speaker 1: it is what it is. We're getting Brian and and
- 54:47Speaker 1: Moxley of all the people to come out for the
- 54:51Speaker 1: save though, to kind of help help hold off the
- 54:54Speaker 1: BCC it's private party and Commander to come out to
- 54:59Speaker 1: take on Pop and Claudio and mocks like. I was like, really,
- 55:02Speaker 1: that's that's the best baby Faces. We got to kind
- 55:05Speaker 1: of stand down the BCC and their terror that they've
- 55:08Speaker 1: been running ramp it through. Okay, seems kind of weak
- 55:11Speaker 1: to me, but uh, the matches themselves. All the matches
- 55:14Speaker 1: were pretty great, except for the Maria may match, Like
- 55:16Speaker 1: that's yeah, that or not the work, yeah that, It
- 55:20Speaker 1: just wasn't good. Overall. It was a fun show, But
- 55:23Speaker 1: this is what we talk about. There's there's loose ends
- 55:26Speaker 1: that don't make sense to me that they don't explain,
- 55:29Speaker 1: Like why did Rodert Strong shake Hook's hand after the match?
- 55:34Speaker 1: I don't get those things. They don't make sense to me,
- 55:38Speaker 1: and that's why I get frustrated with the show. Time.
- 55:40Speaker 1: The n ring work you can watch all day long.
- 55:43Speaker 1: But if you're constantly attacking somebody in jumping and being
- 55:48Speaker 1: really shade and underhanded and then you shake his hand
- 55:51Speaker 1: after the match, I don't get that stuff. It just
- 55:54Speaker 1: it boggles my mind. Shake his hand backstage with nobody's looking,
- 55:58Speaker 1: but otherwise roll out of the rings, slink to the back,
- 56:02Speaker 1: let Hook retire the FTW title to his dad. That
- 56:05Speaker 1: was a great little moment. Some of the stuff they
- 56:08Speaker 1: do just doesn't make sense to me, and then I
- 56:10Speaker 1: get frustrated. So Bell de Bell hardly any big and
- 56:14Speaker 1: touch aw, it's just the little stuff that I watched
- 56:18Speaker 1: that just drives me nuts.
- 56:19Speaker 2: So I will defend the Private Party Commander stuff because
- 56:23Speaker 2: there is an angle that led to that. Right, they
- 56:25Speaker 2: were attacked and then they took out Isaiah Cassidy's hand.
- 56:28Speaker 2: But I'm with you, is there not a bigger group,
- 56:31Speaker 2: maybe the Bang Bang Gang House of Black that they
- 56:34Speaker 2: could have gone to rather than Private Party and Commander.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I get that there was a storyline there
- 56:39Speaker 1: at least, but Private Party hasn't won, has won like
- 56:43Speaker 1: what three matches in the last two years.
- 56:46Speaker 2: They're a great tack team.
- 56:48Speaker 1: They are fun tag team watch. I mean I've watched
- 56:51Speaker 1: them since they were in cz I saw them live
- 56:53Speaker 1: in CZW against Santana and Ortiz like eight years ago.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Like they're great talents. They just the book poorly. Commander's
- 57:02Speaker 1: been lost for like four months. I mean they have him. Hell,
- 57:05Speaker 1: they beat up Alex Abraham or Alex I can't pronounce. Yes,
- 57:10Speaker 1: they beat him up a couple weeks ago, and it's
- 57:13Speaker 1: like cool, I get you're trying to get revenge, but
- 57:15Speaker 1: you guys got the ever loving crap beat out of you,
- 57:20Speaker 1: and you're the ones who jumped the BCC before you
- 57:25Speaker 1: got beat up, So to come out to try to
- 57:28Speaker 1: run them off makes zero sense to me, because why
- 57:31Speaker 1: would the BCC be afraid of Private Party and commander
- 57:35Speaker 1: in that moment we just beat the crap out of
- 57:37Speaker 1: them after they jumped us. Yeah, it doesn't make sense
- 57:42Speaker 1: in that situation to have them come in for the
- 57:46Speaker 1: backup to Danielson. So it's the little stuff like that
- 57:52Speaker 1: that as a longtime wrestling fan just irks me that
- 57:56Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, in that moment, great, I get it.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I mean, and they're and they're you know, Private Party's
- 58:02Speaker 1: New York kids, so in you know, in Long Island,
- 58:05Speaker 1: I get the moment. But use House of Black, or
- 58:10Speaker 1: use somebody else that has a little bit of interaction
- 58:12Speaker 1: with BCC or has had some kind of rivalry at
- 58:15Speaker 1: times with them that maybe is higher on that pecking
- 58:18Speaker 1: order to make sense, and then have Private Party upset
- 58:22Speaker 1: BCC on Dynamite to get a little credibility too. Then
- 58:26Speaker 1: if you want to circle back to it, then it works.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder if that's like Tony complaining to the
- 58:31Speaker 2: hometown crowd, since Private Party is is the local crew
- 58:37Speaker 2: the roder Strong hook stuff. I'm I can totally understand
- 58:42Speaker 2: that based on the history of Aw's booking. I'm wondering
- 58:44Speaker 2: if that is the beginning of something rather than the
- 58:47Speaker 2: end of something. If that makes sense, Doctor Trey from
- 58:50Speaker 2: a storyline standpoint, is.
- 58:52Speaker 1: The Undisputed Kingdom finally broken up? I mean the knee entry,
- 58:58Speaker 1: Tavin and Bennett just lost in to Guevara and Rhodes.
- 59:03Speaker 1: It's just once again like you've been a shitty heel
- 59:06Speaker 1: for a year, You've been doing shitty things to Hook
- 59:10Speaker 1: and then you shake his hand after the match. Are
- 59:11Speaker 1: you just giving up on being shitty? Are you? Are
- 59:13Speaker 1: you mad that your wife's in a better spot right
- 59:15Speaker 1: now that you want.
- 59:17Speaker 2: I'm upset with Grand Slam where they dumped out of
- 59:21Speaker 2: Nigel saying thank you to Brian Danielson, which even on
- 59:25Speaker 2: I thought there was gonna be a replay of it
- 59:27Speaker 2: on social media, maybe on the YouTube. I have not
- 59:30Speaker 2: checked out the YouTube, but even on a replay on
- 59:32Speaker 2: social media, I saw that they dumped out of that.
- 59:34Speaker 2: So the person that with the dump button must have
- 59:36Speaker 2: thought he was saying fuck you to Brian Dad like
- 59:39Speaker 2: completely the whole point of that segment got dumped out.
- 59:43Speaker 2: I mean, that is awful. Thank god. The commentators like,
- 59:46Speaker 2: I can't you know he said thank you? I have
- 59:48Speaker 2: no idea if they even know it got dumped out.
- 59:51Speaker 2: That really sucked from that standpoint, but man Nigel could
- 59:55Speaker 2: still go that was really cool. The big thing here,
- 59:57Speaker 2: Doctor Trey, that I noticed, and this goes back to
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: a conversation on last week's show AW. Grand Slam's attendance
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: was significantly and noticeably down from previous editions of Grand Slam.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: In twenty twenty one, they had twenty thousand, one hundred
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: and seventy seven, which I believe is still it may
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: have been broke broken by the first dance when Sampunk
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: went on rampage. I still think that's like the one
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: of the highest attended television shows, if not the highest
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: television attended show for a dynamite collision, rampage whatever in
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: history of AW. In twenty twenty two, it dropt from
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: one hundred and seventy seven twenty one to twenty two.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: It was the thirteen thousand, eight hundred, so pretty strong.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Last year eleven thousand. Even I guess there was no
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: eleven thousand and one or two. That's what the tracking
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: that I found this year. According to Russell Tics, on
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: X eight thousand, one hundred and ninety one attended a
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Grand Slam, so it's been a drop of twelve thousand.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Aw Grand Slam was always noticeably one of the highest
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: viewer shows attended by All Elite Wrestling, but it was
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: very easy to tell that they blacked out a lot
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: of that arena. They had the normal Dynamite set. They
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: didn't even have the set where it has like the
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: entrance way where it's also an LED screen, which they
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: would do for some big shows that they would do
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: for Dynamite. You know, go back to when Adam Cole
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: would jumped off the stage and broke his freaking ankle
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: and he's been out for an entire year. It was
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: just really noticeable that it was not the crowd that
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: we're accustomed to for that show, and that made me sad.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: I didn't take a victory lab for All Elait Wrestling.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: It just made me sad. And that's something I noticed
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: the entire time. I was like, Man, I wonder how
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: the show's got to come off and look, and it
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: was like, oh, man, this is there are some attendance concerns,
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: and eight thousand is still very strong for a show,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: but man, when you were packing in twenty thousand people
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: three years years ago, thirteen thousand two years ago, eleven
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: thousand a year ago, it's like, Ugh, this decline is concerning.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: And I believe they sold like two thousand tickets over
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: the last week or so, so they were looking at
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: potentially six thousand people up until about a week ago,
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Doctor Trey, Did you notice those attendants issues that I
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: pointed out as well?
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and also just the energy from the
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: crowd hasn't been where it's been the last couple of years.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: I mean even last year eleven thousand, the crowd seemed
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: pretty hot. This year, the crowd just kind of seemed like,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I don't want to say polite, but it's almost like
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: watching a tennis show in Arthur, Ash. It was like, yeah,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: it was nice, Yeah, it was good. Yeah, it was
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: like it was almost like polite at times, but just
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: the energy wasn't there. And sometimes you can watch a
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: show and kind of get a vibe, not just from
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: the crowd, but from the performers as well as like
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I don't want to say they were going through the motions,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: but you don't feel that same energy on a dynamite
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: that maybe you did two years ago, three years ago,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Like it just isn't there right now, and and part
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: of that is that crowd energy is not there, so
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: that crowd makes you more amped up. Like look, I
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: I literally did a show Friday night. By by the
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: time we were in the main event, twenty five people
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: were left, but it was allowed twenty five people, so
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: we were amped up for it. And I've been in
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: shows where it's three hundred in a small venue and
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: they're just like sitting on their hands, and you're just like, man,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: I just I don't feel the energy is hard to
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: get amped up for it, So you know, it does
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: kind of the energy does sell through television, and just
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: right now, it just kind of feels like, I don't know,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: like they're treading water or they're not like somebody's like
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: just got diagnosed with a bad illness. Like it just
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: feels kind of eh and blaw at times. Like I said,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: the matches are great, like Bell, the Bell is grave.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: It's just the energy of the shows right now just
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: kind of feels blah across the board for AW.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: It's so inconsistent. There's no consistency from like year to year.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Here great stretch from March to going into All Out
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: in London and then All In was thrown together, and
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: I just feel like the last five weeks have been
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: kind of meh outside the Moxley stuff, So it's concerning.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: It was very noticeable and I was hoping for a
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: bigger craft for AW. Grand Slam eight thousand still something
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: that's very, very good. But I want to go back
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: to those days where it was twenty thousand people packing
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Arthur to Ashley for Grand Slam because that was a
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: really really fun show, great crowd, great energy, and overall
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: fun times for all lead wrestling. That'll do it for
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: this week's edition of the podcast. Let's get a couple
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: of plugs and sponsors. Either way, you could down the
