- 0:34Speaker 2: Doesn't matter. Just buy it at home. You know, just
- 0:35Speaker 2: buy it even if there isn't. Just buy it even
- 0:38Speaker 2: if you don't have anyone to buy it for. Just
- 0:40Speaker 2: sit it in the kitchen and wait for a friend.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah, wait to make a friend. Okay.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Buy it and then wait to make a friend and
- 0:47Speaker 2: just put it there. Yeah, sure. Anyway, well, yeah. Anyway,

- 1:13Speaker 1: a friend.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Phil's laughing now.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Yes, I am.
- 1:16Speaker 1: It's at philhenryshow.com. Our archives, our merch, the greatest value
- 1:22Speaker 1: online other than porn. Welcome to today's Featured Archive Hour,
- 1:26Speaker 1: our Featured Radio Archive Hour from the Hall of Fame
- 1:28Speaker 1: Phil Hendry Show and philhendryshow.com. This is from March of 2005.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Bob Green, who's actually named after one of the greatest
- 1:36Speaker 1: general managers I ever worked for in the radio business,
- 1:38Speaker 1: Bob Green at WIOD in Miami. He is the CEO
- 1:41Speaker 1: of Fraser Foods, and he's on to talk about his
- 1:43Speaker 1: unhappiness with the delivery times he's getting out of his
- 1:45Speaker 1: drivers that his grocery store has guaranteed. Sure, one of
- 1:49Speaker 1: his drivers killed a family of three, but he got
- 1:52Speaker 1: the deli platter there on time. That's essentially Bob's philosophy,
- 1:56Speaker 1: and he talks to cops. He talks to all kinds
- 1:57Speaker 1: of people in this segment, and you'll hear his philosophy.
- 2:02Speaker 1: It's all about the delivery time, and, you know, everybody else,
- 2:06Speaker 1: get out of the way.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Here's Bob. Your workers are trying to organize Mr. Green
- 2:10Speaker 2: for more insurance.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so they're trying to organize in an effort to
- 2:15Speaker 3: increase their insurance benefits. I'm not saying we're not looking
- 2:18Speaker 3: at the problem, but we have to see, I think,
- 2:20Speaker 3: better effort out of them productivity-wise, especially on a day
- 2:24Speaker 3: like today where you did have a lot of rain,
- 2:27Speaker 3: and a lot of drivers are going to use that
- 2:29Speaker 3: as an excuse not to get the job done that
- 2:32Speaker 3: we've asked them to do.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I know.
- 2:34Speaker 2: What part of the business specifically are you talking so
- 2:35Speaker 2: that our listeners know?
- 2:37Speaker 3: Well, we're a full-service grocery chain. We do a delivery
- 2:42Speaker 3: service for deli items, party items, as well as grocery items,
- 2:45Speaker 3: and it's a very competitive field. So we offer our
- 2:48Speaker 3: customers what we think is a very unique guarantee. We'll
- 2:51Speaker 3: deliver in 30 minutes or less, or they're given their
- 2:55Speaker 3: items for free, and it's part of our customer service
- 2:57Speaker 3: that brings these people back. It also demands a high
- 3:01Speaker 3: level of professionalism and performance from our delivery people.
- 3:04Speaker 2: How many delivery guys do you have per store?
- 3:07Speaker 3: Phil, we run anywhere from two or three per store.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And their work has been, I mean, let's talk straight.
- 3:13Speaker 1: You were saying their work is substandard.
- 3:16Speaker 3: That is our contention, yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Why?
- 3:19Speaker 3: Well, that's where we're contending with the people repping them.
- 3:22Speaker 3: You know, nowadays when it comes to personnel in general,
- 3:25Speaker 3: you do have a traceable productivity drop-off. But in the
- 3:29Speaker 3: delivery field, you know, again, let's take today for an example.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I've got people, my drivers are calling, and now they're
- 3:36Speaker 3: using the weather as an excuse, you know, the wet streets.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Well, but to let people know who are listening around
- 3:42Speaker 1: the country, it's been a very rainy day here in
- 3:43Speaker 1: Los Angeles. The weather has been very wet and very rainy,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and you're talking about guys that are delivering with a
- 3:50Speaker 1: 30-minute or less guarantee.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Well, let me, if I could, Joe, because I've got
- 3:54Speaker 3: 17 years of experience. with these kinds of people and
- 3:58Speaker 3: these kinds of issues. I think it's the instinct of anyone,
- 4:01Speaker 3: such as yourself or anyone, to say, oh, well, they've
- 4:03Speaker 3: got a good excuse, it's raining. It is raining. It's
- 4:06Speaker 3: also a fact that I have a guaranteed delivery in
- 4:08Speaker 3: 30 minutes or we take a loss on the items.
- 4:11Speaker 3: That's also a fact. All right, so.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You're telling your drivers you've got to get there, even
- 4:17Speaker 1: though today has been a particularly rough day in terms
- 4:20Speaker 1: of weather, you know.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Because I came down the freeway.
- 4:24Speaker 3: There's a lot of different kinds of days where it's rough.
- 4:27Speaker 3: When you have a choice between a paying customer and
- 4:30Speaker 3: an individual who is really kind of indicative of the
- 4:33Speaker 3: kind of worker you have today complaining about the rain.
- 4:37Speaker 3: In other words, you're telling me I'm supposed to pay
- 4:39Speaker 3: that person $ 5 an hour to sit with the windshield
- 4:41Speaker 3: wipers on in traffic smoking a cigarette while a customer
- 4:44Speaker 3: waits for a service.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Well, if the traffic is jammed up and if it's raining...
- 4:51Speaker 1: And he has to make a really, he's got to
- 4:53Speaker 1: make a fast delivery.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but these people don't use what I call a
- 4:57Speaker 3: scanning set. Even in heavy traffic, spaces open up between cars.
- 5:00Speaker 3: If you're smart, you can move into those spaces. You
- 5:02Speaker 3: zigzag your way up the freeway. You get up there
- 5:04Speaker 3: much faster.
- 5:07Speaker 2: But again, in the rain?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Well, you know, you keep bringing up the rain. All right.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know your business, sir, and I'm
- 5:14Speaker 2: not trying to tell you your business.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Well, you keep bringing up the rain. Let me explain.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I have a customer that I have told I will
- 5:19Speaker 3: get their items to them in 30 minutes or less.
- 5:22Speaker 3: The driver is going to have to find a way
- 5:24Speaker 3: to do that. This is, you know, it's money that
- 5:27Speaker 3: I'm bleeding. And I mean literally bleeding.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But, you know, you make the kind of guarantee... In
- 5:36Speaker 1: the rain, the driver runs the risk of an accident
- 5:38Speaker 1: is all I'm saying. That's why they want more insurance coverage.
- 5:40Speaker 3: That's correct. But in order for that to happen, I'm
- 5:43Speaker 3: going to have to see some what I call old-school driving.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Let me tell you a story. We had a driver once.
- 5:49Speaker 3: His name was Isaac Taylor, and he did what he
- 5:51Speaker 3: had to do.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Like what?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Well, he did what he had to do. Give me
- 5:56Speaker 3: an example. Well, I mean, he would go down a
- 5:58Speaker 3: one-way street if it was a few hundred yards. He
- 6:00Speaker 3: cared about the employer. He cared about what we did.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Right up here on Ortega Highway, he was delivering deli items.
- 6:07Speaker 3: We have a guarantee. And he respected that. And he
- 6:11Speaker 3: got caught by the CHP. He was waving through traffic.
- 6:14Speaker 3: We paid for the ticket. And I'll tell you something else.
- 6:16Speaker 3: This guy could make 56 deliveries to every two or
- 6:19Speaker 3: three these guys make nowadays.
- 6:21Speaker 1: All right, but you also said that safety is an issue.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Safety is an issue. It's a paramount issue. But I've
- 6:26Speaker 3: got to get these deliveries. I don't care if it's raining.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I don't care if it's a sleet storm or whatever.
- 6:31Speaker 3: If there's black ice, you better find a way to
- 6:33Speaker 3: get it delivered, or you don't work for Fraser Foods.
- 6:38Speaker 6: All right?
- 6:38Speaker 3: And I told these drivers, I will pay you what
- 6:41Speaker 3: you're worth, but if you don't get it to where
- 6:44Speaker 3: it's supposed to be, I'm going to leave you where
- 6:45Speaker 3: I find you. Now, we have people, and I've got
- 6:47Speaker 3: drivers who've got, you know, if they had some guts,
- 6:52Speaker 3: and you keep bringing up the rain, the rain is bad,
- 6:55Speaker 3: but it's also bad when I am.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Bleeding from a certain part of the body and if
- 7:03Speaker 3: you want to work for Fraser Foods I want to
- 7:05Speaker 3: see some deliveries and I want to see some delivery
- 7:06Speaker 3: times that's why we're having a problem with the issue
- 7:09Speaker 3: with insurance and for me Phil I go between being
- 7:15Speaker 3: very religious and being an atheist and one of the
- 7:18Speaker 3: reasons why I have settled on being an atheist is
- 7:21Speaker 3: I ask myself what kind of a God would make
- 7:24Speaker 3: it rain on a day like today when I need
- 7:27Speaker 3: to get deliveries out And the answer to that question
- 7:31Speaker 3: is it must be a pretty vicious, brutal, and uncaring God.
- 7:34Speaker 3: So I don't choose to believe in God. That's my
- 7:37Speaker 3: own personal choice. But when these guys start crying about
- 7:40Speaker 3: the rain, I remember Isaac Taylor. This guy could make
- 7:43Speaker 3: the deliveries.
- 7:44Speaker 2: All right, I'm going to give our phone number, and
- 7:45Speaker 2: I know that you have issues that I don't understand.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I'm not in the grocery business. 1-800-449-8686. Mr. Robert Green
- 7:53Speaker 2: is with us from Fraser Foods, and he's talking about,
- 7:57Speaker 2: the deliveries being slow and not as good as they
- 8:00Speaker 2: used to be and the guys using the weather as
- 8:02Speaker 2: an excuse the guys using the traffic as an excuse
- 8:05Speaker 2: the guys using the unsafe streets as an excuse or
- 8:07Speaker 2: what they call unsafe.
- 8:09Speaker 3: They get you and other people to believe the streets
- 8:11Speaker 3: are unsafe the streets are not unsafe the streets are
- 8:15Speaker 3: wet it's water get in the car make the delivery
- 8:20Speaker 3: or you don't work for fraser foods you want more
- 8:22Speaker 3: insurance you can get more insurance But I want to
- 8:26Speaker 3: see productivity. This is the problem that every employer is
- 8:29Speaker 3: having today in America. Phil, if I may speak out
- 8:32Speaker 3: of turn for just a moment.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Well, I want to keep this pretty much on your business.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But let me tell you what every employer in America
- 8:38Speaker 3: is up against. We've got workers out there that are,
- 8:43Speaker 3: for want of a better word, they're a little tender.
- 8:46Speaker 3: They're a little frightened of their own shadows. They don't
- 8:49Speaker 3: want to make a move here. They don't want to
- 8:50Speaker 3: go there. I've got a guy who said, make a delivery.
- 8:54Speaker 3: or I'm going to leave you where I find you.
- 8:55Speaker 3: And he says, well, it's raining today. I said to him,
- 8:58Speaker 3: I understand it's raining, and I'm paying you to, I'm
- 9:02Speaker 3: not paying you five bucks an hour to sit in
- 9:03Speaker 3: traffic with a windshield wiper on so you can listen
- 9:05Speaker 3: to your CD player, the deal that they put on
- 9:08Speaker 3: their head. And a lot of these guys wear their
- 9:10Speaker 3: headphones so you can't even call them on a cell phone.
- 9:13Speaker 3: So you can sit there and watch windshield wipers go
- 9:15Speaker 3: back and forth.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But, all right, you're right, you know your business.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Um, You're paying these guys $ 5 an hour. They're asking
- 9:25Speaker 1: for an increase in their insurance. You guys are talking
- 9:28Speaker 1: about this. You're negotiating it.
- 9:30Speaker 3: That is right, Phil. And as I said, when I
- 9:32Speaker 3: start to see a little bit more productivity out of
- 9:34Speaker 3: these guys, we can start talking about it.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Okay. You don't feel that they are being compromised in
- 9:40Speaker 2: terms of their safety?
- 9:41Speaker 3: Not at all. No, not at all.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Okay.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Even if you say, well, you've got to get it
- 9:43Speaker 2: there in 30 minutes or less, or, quote, I'm going
- 9:46Speaker 2: to leave you where I find you, what does that mean,
- 9:47Speaker 2: I'm going to leave you where I find you?
- 9:49Speaker 3: That means you're not going to work for Fraser Foods anymore.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I mean, it's as simple as that. I don't pay
- 9:54Speaker 3: these guys, and I don't offer a guarantee of 30
- 9:57Speaker 3: minutes or less so that I can start bleeding... from
- 10:00Speaker 3: a private area of my body so that these guys
- 10:04Speaker 3: can get their insurance, and then I'm still taking a
- 10:07Speaker 3: broom handle. This is not what I call good business.
- 10:12Speaker 2: All right, 1-800-449-8686. We'll take a call here from Angela. Hello, Angela.
- 10:16Speaker 2: You're on the Phil Hendry Show with Robert Green.
- 10:18Speaker 7: Hi there.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Hi.
- 10:20Speaker 7: I want to disagree with your caller. I think that
- 10:23Speaker 7: if the only way that he can profitably stay in
- 10:26Speaker 7: business is by asking his drivers to engage in completely
- 10:29Speaker 7: unsafe behavior, that he doesn't deserve to be in business.
- 10:32Speaker 3: No, wait. I don't know why you get the idea
- 10:35Speaker 3: of completely unsafe behavior.
- 10:37Speaker 7: Well, I think that careening through wet streets, changing lanes,
- 10:40Speaker 7: going the wrong way on one-way streets is absolutely unsafe behavior.
- 10:45Speaker 7: I really would like to know exactly which retail outlets
- 10:47Speaker 7: in the area are yours so that I can make
- 10:49Speaker 7: it a point not to patronize them. I don't want
- 10:51Speaker 7: your drivers anywhere near my neighborhood.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I can understand, ma'am, that you don't understand my business.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I guarantee you that I've been in business for a
- 10:58Speaker 3: long time, and one of the reasons is I care
- 11:00Speaker 3: about you. When you say to me, Mr. Green, I've
- 11:03Speaker 3: got a function today, I need deli items delivered, I
- 11:06Speaker 3: need food delivered, And I've had a problem. Our other
- 11:10Speaker 3: service didn't come through. You know what I'm going to
- 11:12Speaker 3: do for you, Angela? I'm going to get it to you.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I'm going to get it to you.
- 11:16Speaker 7: I'm going to be commuting to work today, and I
- 11:18Speaker 7: want to make it there alive.
- 11:21Speaker 3: What's that got to do with me? I don't understand
- 11:23Speaker 3: her question.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Well, I think she's concerned about this.
- 11:25Speaker 7: Drivers are all over the streets, and they have to
- 11:29Speaker 7: get there in 30 minutes or less, even though streets
- 11:32Speaker 7: are wet.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Let me ask you something. You don't care about my business,
- 11:34Speaker 3: in other words? So if I've got a driver... who
- 11:37Speaker 3: is desperately trying to make a delivery so I don't
- 11:39Speaker 3: start bleeding money. Well, he's desperately trying to.
- 11:42Speaker 7: Make a delivery because of the poor, unrealistic... No, ma'am, I...
- 11:45Speaker 7: So you don't... I care about the economy, but I
- 11:48Speaker 7: care about people's lives more.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I didn't hear what the lady said.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Could you say that again, Angela? You dropped out a
- 11:53Speaker 2: little bit.
- 11:54Speaker 7: I care about your business, I care about the economy,
- 11:56Speaker 7: but I care about people's lives more.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Well, what you're doing then is you're saying, why don't
- 12:01Speaker 3: I just purposefully get in the way of this driver
- 12:03Speaker 3: and slow him down so Bob Green starts to bleed
- 12:06Speaker 3: some more money? Oh, I'm not.
- 12:08Speaker 2: No, she didn't say.
- 12:09Speaker 6: I don't want to.
- 12:10Speaker 3: If I was catering, look, if I was catering your
- 12:13Speaker 3: wedding and you wanted the, and you want your pigs
- 12:17Speaker 3: in a blanket there on time. So in other words,
- 12:19Speaker 3: what do you want me to say to you? Well, gee, Angela,
- 12:21Speaker 3: I couldn't get it there because there was a little
- 12:24Speaker 3: old lady and she was going three miles an hour.
- 12:27Speaker 3: So I decided to just sit behind her. Is that it?
- 12:30Speaker 7: I would want you to leave more than 30 minutes
- 12:32Speaker 7: before my wedding, and I wouldn't order pigs in a blanket.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I'm sorry?
- 12:36Speaker 7: I wouldn't order pigs in a blanket, and I would
- 12:39Speaker 7: want you to allow more than 30 minutes to get there.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Well, whatever it is that you order, suppose you call
- 12:44Speaker 3: me with 30 minutes before the wedding starts because you
- 12:47Speaker 3: went with an inferior catering service, which some people do.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Now you expect a miracle out of me. You want
- 12:53Speaker 3: me to miracle my rear end over to your wedding,
- 12:55Speaker 3: but you don't want me to kill anyone.
- 12:57Speaker 2: And of course she doesn't want you to kill anyone.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Of course.
- 13:00Speaker 3: That's ridiculous. Look, I'm not saying I'm going to kill anybody,
- 13:03Speaker 3: but if I've got to drive on a sidewalk and
- 13:06Speaker 3: it doesn't hurt anyone, how does it hurt you?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Are you telling your drivers to drive up on sidewalks?
- 13:12Speaker 3: I'm telling them whenever it's safe, yes, you can go
- 13:15Speaker 3: down a one-way street, go on a sidewalk.
- 13:17Speaker 7: Driving on the sidewalk and driving the wrong way on
- 13:19Speaker 7: the one-way street is illegal because of public safety.
- 13:23Speaker 3: But if there's no one on the street, and it's
- 13:25Speaker 3: a one-way street, there's nobody there. That's what I'm saying.
- 13:27Speaker 1: All right, Angela, thank you for your call. All right,
- 13:29Speaker 1: thank you. 1-800-449-8686, the number here. We're talking with Robert
- 13:32Speaker 1: Green of Fraser Foods. And your contention basically being that
- 13:36Speaker 1: your workers, your drivers, are not doing the job, and
- 13:38Speaker 1: they're not going to get their insurance.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Phil, they're insured.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I know, but they're not going to get the increase
- 13:43Speaker 2: in coverage they're asking for.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Not until I start seeing what I call some old-school driving,
- 13:50Speaker 3: where that lady, a very nice lady... She all of
- 13:53Speaker 3: a sudden realizes she needs whatever it is she wants,
- 13:56Speaker 3: chips and salsa for her card game, and it's got
- 14:00Speaker 3: to get there. I tell my driver, you better get
- 14:02Speaker 3: it there, or I'm going to leave you where I
- 14:05Speaker 3: find you, and you'll never work for Fraser Foods again.
- 14:07Speaker 3: You want to work for Fraser Foods, you get it there.
- 14:09Speaker 3: You don't want to work for Fraser Foods, go to
- 14:11Speaker 3: work for Vons, go to work for Kroger's, where they
- 14:15Speaker 3: hold your hand and they pat you on the head,
- 14:18Speaker 3: and their service doesn't come anywhere near you. what I
- 14:22Speaker 3: call the quality breakneck and, yes, at times life-threatening service
- 14:26Speaker 3: of Fraser Foods.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Robert Green of Fraser Foods in a dispute with his
- 14:30Speaker 1: drivers that you've probably been reading about in the paper.
- 14:33Speaker 1: They want more insurance coverage because they're asked to make
- 14:35Speaker 1: these deliveries fast, even on a day like today in
- 14:38Speaker 1: the Los Angeles area where it is wet and it's
- 14:42Speaker 1: slick and it's dangerous.
- 14:43Speaker 2: The world-famous Phil Hendry Show will be right back.
- 14:52Speaker 4: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Isaac Taylor was a driver for you, Mr. Green, back
- 14:58Speaker 2: in 1995 when eventually his car and the car of
- 15:04Speaker 2: a family of three people went off of Ortega Highway
- 15:08Speaker 2: and down an embankment. Do you recall that?
- 15:10Speaker 3: I do recall that, Phil. We did settle that case.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And Isaac is being taken care of now by our company.
- 15:19Speaker 3: And that family was in the wrong. California Highway Patrol
- 15:23Speaker 3: determined that.
- 15:24Speaker 1: But he was a driver for you when he and
- 15:27Speaker 1: this family got involved in this accident, which cost the
- 15:30Speaker 1: lives of three people.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I understand that, and I don't believe it's proper of you.
- 15:36Speaker 3: I don't think it's proper of you in the context
- 15:38Speaker 3: of this conversation to even bring that up because, as
- 15:41Speaker 3: I said, the California Highway Patrol thoroughly investigated that. It
- 15:45Speaker 3: was not the fault of our driver. That was determined
- 15:49Speaker 3: not only in a criminal investigation. It was determined during
- 15:53Speaker 3: the civil litigation that that family, while, yes, our driver
- 15:58Speaker 3: was traveling at an excessive rate of speed.
- 16:00Speaker 2: CHP had him at 97 miles an hour.
- 16:03Speaker 3: And you're bringing that up. The Dorff family, by the way,
- 16:09Speaker 3: had a trailer that they were hauling illegally. They had
- 16:13Speaker 3: not put chains on their tires. The fact was that
- 16:16Speaker 3: their automobile had not passed its emission test.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Well, see, here's all this stuff.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You see, doesn't it sound to me like your driver
- 16:22Speaker 1: got out of that because of a technicality on the
- 16:25Speaker 1: emission test and chains on wheels?
- 16:27Speaker 2: He ran them off the road. Isn't that correct?
- 16:29Speaker 3: No, that is not correct. And I would ask you
- 16:31Speaker 3: to cease your conversation about this because you are getting
- 16:34Speaker 3: into an area that we consider libelous.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Talking here with Robert Green of Fraser Foods. about how
- 16:41Speaker 1: they guarantee 30 minutes or less delivery even when it's raining.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And the drivers are asking for more insurance, and you
- 16:49Speaker 1: are saying you're not seeing the kind of driving out
- 16:51Speaker 1: of them that you want to see.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You want to see a little bit more of daring driving,
- 16:55Speaker 2: I guess.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Look, I want to see if there's nobody coming down
- 16:59Speaker 3: a one-way street, it's not dangerous. If there's no one
- 17:01Speaker 3: on the sidewalk, it's not dangerous. If you can safely
- 17:05Speaker 3: negotiate your way across a railroad track, if you can
- 17:08Speaker 3: safely negotiate your way driving through a, for instance, a
- 17:13Speaker 3: warehouse or something, then yes, we ask that they make
- 17:17Speaker 3: those considerations for our customers because they're number one.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Driving through a warehouse, driving through a private piece of property.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Boy, I'll tell you, you really don't get my business,
- 17:28Speaker 3: do you?
- 17:29Speaker 2: All right, hold on. 1-800-449-8686. The world famous Phil Henry Show. Julie,
- 17:35Speaker 2: go ahead. You're on the Phil Henry Show.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Hello?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Hi, Julie, go ahead.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Hi.
- 17:40Speaker 8: I'm really fascinated with this guy. I think it's interesting.
- 17:44Speaker 8: I mean, his arguments are interesting, but when you peel
- 17:48Speaker 8: away all the layers and all of his excuses and
- 17:50Speaker 8: all the mumbo-jumbo, he's asking his employees to do something illegal,
- 17:56Speaker 8: and he's requiring it of them.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Well, you break the speed limit every day, Julie, and
- 18:01Speaker 3: yet nobody's coming to your house and breaking your you-know-what's
- 18:04Speaker 3: over it. No, but you're requiring.
- 18:07Speaker 8: In order for these people to keep their job, that's
- 18:09Speaker 8: what you're requiring them to do.
- 18:10Speaker 3: In order for you to keep your job, you have
- 18:12Speaker 3: to break the speed limit, I'm sure, on many days. No,
- 18:15Speaker 3: I plan ahead. I got you. I got you. See? No, really.
- 18:20Speaker 8: If I get to work late, I say, guys, I'm sorry,
- 18:22Speaker 8: I got to work late, and that's it.
- 18:23Speaker 3: You break the speed limit every single day of your life. Gotcha.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Well, what do you mean, gotcha?
- 18:28Speaker 3: No, not to make money. I got her. I got her.
- 18:31Speaker 8: Oh, you don't have me.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I do.
- 18:33Speaker 3: You break the speed limit every day of your life.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I don't really appreciate people laughing at me. I'm an employer.
- 18:40Speaker 8: Well, you're interrupting me, and you're treating me like a jackass.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Well, you are a little bit of a jackass, or
- 18:46Speaker 3: a Jill-ass, if you will. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Is that laugh real?
- 18:50Speaker 5: Yeah, it is.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Okay, all right, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 18:53Speaker 3: You're hysterical.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on, hold on. Let's talk here. Your
- 18:58Speaker 2: point is what, Julie? Because I'm not really sure what
- 19:00Speaker 2: it is. And then I'll ask you, Bob.
- 19:02Speaker 3: That's the first smart thing you've said, Mr. Andrews. She
- 19:04Speaker 3: doesn't have a point.
- 19:05Speaker 2: And I don't like being said I've only said one
- 19:07Speaker 2: smart thing. I don't like that. Go ahead, Julie.
- 19:10Speaker 8: Well, my point is he's blatantly clear about his employees
- 19:16Speaker 8: doing illegal things, and he supports it, and he requires
- 19:19Speaker 8: it of them.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Your employer requires you. Hold on.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Let her finish.
- 19:23Speaker 8: That in itself is against the law. And you're way
- 19:27Speaker 8: out of bounds, no matter which way you slice it.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Hey, your employer requires you to break the speed limit
- 19:34Speaker 3: in order to get to work every day. No, they don't.
- 19:37Speaker 8: And even if they did, they would never be stupid
- 19:40Speaker 8: enough to say that.
- 19:41Speaker 7: No, they don't.
- 19:43Speaker 8: They require me to get there when I get there.
- 19:46Speaker 8: That means I have to wake up at 7 o'clock
- 19:48Speaker 8: and get ready and take insurance. account traffic and all
- 19:51Speaker 8: that stuff.
- 19:52Speaker 7: I have to plan.
- 19:53Speaker 3: You're waking up at 7 o'clock? I'm at the job.
- 19:56Speaker 3: At 7 o'clock. Thank you.
- 19:57Speaker 8: That's your job.
- 19:58Speaker 9: How do you like me now?
- 20:00Speaker 6: That's not mine.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I'm a pharmacist.
- 20:02Speaker 8: I don't have to be there until 9. It takes
- 20:04Speaker 8: me 20 minutes to get there. I plan for it
- 20:06Speaker 8: every day.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that's great. By the way, please try not to
- 20:10Speaker 3: put any wrong medication in those bottles again, Julie. Jesus.
- 20:13Speaker 9: I don't.
- 20:15Speaker 6: You know, I don't know.
- 20:16Speaker 8: I don't live anywhere near you.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I've got to get to another call.
- 20:19Speaker 3: She says she's a pharmacist. Have you ever waited for
- 20:21Speaker 3: medication in a pharmacy where those people take their sweet time?
- 20:24Speaker 3: Not us. We don't do that.
- 20:26Speaker 6: Somebody's waiting for life-threatening medication that.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Would help them from a psychotic reaction. And she sits there,
- 20:32Speaker 3: taking her time, counting out the pills. You're wrong, and.
- 20:35Speaker 8: You know it, and you've got a lawsuit on your hands.
- 20:38Speaker 6: You're screwed, pal.
- 20:38Speaker 5: No, I'm not wrong.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I got you. I got you. I got you, too. No,
- 20:41Speaker 3: I got you, because you're the one that's counting out
- 20:43Speaker 3: the anti-psychotic pills, and some guy's about ready to slit
- 20:46Speaker 3: an old lady's throat, and you're taking your time counting
- 20:48Speaker 3: out the pills. Way to go. Oh, man.
- 20:50Speaker 2: All right, look.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Mr.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Henry, I would ask you not to put anyone like
- 20:55Speaker 3: that on the phone with me again. I don't like
- 20:57Speaker 3: women laughing at me. All right.
- 21:01Speaker 1: She said something very good. She said the employer doesn't
- 21:05Speaker 1: ask her to break the speed limit.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Well, that is, it doesn't matter. Every employer expects their
- 21:12Speaker 3: people to break the speed limit.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Robert Green is my guest. He operates, among other things,
- 21:18Speaker 2: a delivery service from his grocery chain where he expects
- 21:20Speaker 2: the delivery to be made 30 minutes or less Even
- 21:23Speaker 2: in the rain, his employees want more insurance money. He's
- 21:26Speaker 2: not giving it until he sees some better drivings.
- 21:28Speaker 4: The Phil Henry Show. Talk radio's speed trap. The Phil
- 21:33Speaker 4: Henry Show is back. 1-800-449-8686.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Tell the story to my audience if you believe it's
- 21:39Speaker 2: that significant. We have Robert Green, the CEO of Fraser Foods,
- 21:42Speaker 2: on with us, talking about his drivers wanting more insurance
- 21:45Speaker 2: coverage for delivering. He guarantees a 30-minute delivery even if
- 21:49Speaker 2: it's raining, even if, as you said, even if there's
- 21:51Speaker 2: black eyes.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you about Isaac Taylor, Phil, before
- 21:55Speaker 3: I forget. You're right. Isaac was involved in a very
- 21:59Speaker 3: tragic accident on Ortega Highway. A family of three did
- 22:02Speaker 3: lose their lives. Isaac is the kind of guy who
- 22:08Speaker 3: keeps his eye on the goal. And I don't know
- 22:11Speaker 3: if this is right or wrong. I can't tell you
- 22:13Speaker 3: if this is right or wrong, but this is one
- 22:14Speaker 3: of the reasons why we valued him. He made that delivery.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Even though there was an automobile at the bottom of
- 22:21Speaker 3: that canyon with a gasoline fire.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Well, did he call the police? Did he call an
- 22:29Speaker 2: emergency services? What did he do? In other words, I
- 22:32Speaker 2: can understand if he's going to make the delivery.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I don't know what he did. I just know he
- 22:37Speaker 3: made that delivery. And then he came back, and when
- 22:39Speaker 3: the police arrived, he was there. He was looking at it.
- 22:43Speaker 3: But I feel that while I said to him, you
- 22:46Speaker 3: shouldn't have done that. You should have immediately called the police.
- 22:48Speaker 3: He said, well, Mr. Green, I'm just, and he said
- 22:51Speaker 3: it in a way that, you know, the old black
- 22:53Speaker 3: guys do. He said, Mr. Green, I'm just, you know,
- 22:55Speaker 3: very grateful for the job.
- 22:58Speaker 2: The way the old black guys do.
- 23:00Speaker 3: No, what I mean is he was very, you know, grateful.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Boy, I'll tell you something. There's a car at the
- 23:08Speaker 2: bottom of a canyon on fire, and he doesn't even,
- 23:11Speaker 2: were there cell phones then?
- 23:13Speaker 3: I don't know. He had one of the old brick
- 23:15Speaker 3: phones that we would contact him on, but I'm sure
- 23:18Speaker 3: back then you couldn't get 911. I don't think they
- 23:20Speaker 3: had operators or anything.
- 23:23Speaker 2: All right, 1-800-449-8686. Brian, go ahead. You're on the Phil
- 23:28Speaker 2: Henry Show with Robert Green.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Hi, Robert.
- 23:31Speaker 10: I'm a truck driver.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I'm going to put you on hold. Your cell phone's
- 23:37Speaker 1: breaking up, dude.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Hold on for a minute. Let's go over to Nick.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Hello, Nick.
- 23:40Speaker 2: You're on the Phil Henry Show.
- 23:41Speaker 9: Hello, Robert. I'm a college student with a business major.
- 23:44Speaker 9: I'm just wanting to say that people, I'm pro-big business,
- 23:47Speaker 9: but people like you give a bad name to everybody
- 23:51Speaker 9: else because I'm taking ethics classes right now. What you're
- 23:53Speaker 9: saying is what, for you to make an extra dollar,
- 23:56Speaker 9: it's not your problem that you're putting everybody else in danger.
- 23:59Speaker 9: Don't take yourself out of existence because if I was
- 24:02Speaker 9: speeding to work, okay, trying to get to work, you
- 24:04Speaker 9: don't care that I get to work 10 minutes late,
- 24:06Speaker 9: but if I kill your family, your kids, Okay? You
- 24:09Speaker 9: would care. You don't care because you're saying it's not
- 24:12Speaker 9: your problem.
- 24:13Speaker 3: No, wait a minute. I'm saying my family and my children,
- 24:16Speaker 3: my wife, know when a man's on his way to work, brother,
- 24:19Speaker 3: you get out of his way. We value the working
- 24:22Speaker 3: man in our family. And I tell my wife that
- 24:24Speaker 3: if you get into an automobile accident with a trucker,
- 24:27Speaker 3: let's take truckers. These guys work for a living and
- 24:29Speaker 3: they're hardworking guys. I tell her, you know what? He
- 24:31Speaker 3: was doing his job. You get into a... What are
- 24:34Speaker 3: you going to do?
- 24:35Speaker 9: You're going to... You can't... You're not bringing the food
- 24:39Speaker 9: to yourself. You don't understand how it would feel like
- 24:41Speaker 9: to lose somebody. Three people lost their lives, probably because
- 24:45Speaker 9: of your driver and his speed limit.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Wait a minute. That was cleared.
- 24:49Speaker 9: Look, I can't. I don't know why you run your company,
- 24:52Speaker 9: but it's unethical. For you to make an extra $ 10,
- 24:56Speaker 9: I'd rather your drivers drive safe. Personally, my driving record's
- 25:00Speaker 9: not the best. But that's not, you know.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Let me ask him. Let me ask him. As a
- 25:05Speaker 3: business major and as a young man who will be
- 25:07Speaker 3: going into the business world, and I've been in the
- 25:08Speaker 3: business world for 23 years, don't you feel that that
- 25:13Speaker 3: is a laudable thing that our driver at least made
- 25:15Speaker 3: the delivery? He got the stuff. Yeah. Three people died. Yes.
- 25:20Speaker 6: What's more valuable, your stupid food or their lives?
- 25:24Speaker 3: My stupid food is my stupid business, Mr. Business Major.
- 25:28Speaker 3: And now I know what you think of business.
- 25:30Speaker 9: You're saying it's not your business what other people... how
- 25:34Speaker 9: your employees act. Why don't you drive the food?
- 25:38Speaker 3: Sir, I have a big business. I can't just drive
- 25:41Speaker 3: the food myself. I've got three drivers in the store.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I'm not saying it was a good thing that the
- 25:45Speaker 3: Dorff family lost their lives. I'm saying the good news came.
- 25:49Speaker 3: At least there's one piece of good news out of
- 25:51Speaker 3: the whole thing. He delivered the deli platter.
- 25:53Speaker 6: It's irrelevant.
- 25:54Speaker 9: The people lost their lives. Your delivery becomes irrelevant. You're
- 25:57Speaker 9: not putting it in perspective to everything else.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Absolutely. The delivery no longer has any meaning. in the
- 26:04Speaker 2: deaths of three people.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Well, I don't look at things that way, and that's
- 26:07Speaker 3: why I'm a successful businessman, and that's why I think
- 26:09Speaker 3: this young man needs to understand it. What would you prefer?
- 26:13Speaker 3: Let me ask you something, son. What do you prefer?
- 26:15Speaker 3: Fresh fruit or fruit that's been thrown around in a
- 26:19Speaker 3: vacant lot? You want fresh fruit.
- 26:22Speaker 9: And having ten people lose their lives for that fresh
- 26:25Speaker 9: fruit to get there.
- 26:26Speaker 3: No, it wasn't ten. It wasn't ten. It was three
- 26:29Speaker 3: people that died. Well, no, but you're... Well, I.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Mean, come on, three people, ten people. My God, it
- 26:35Speaker 2: was an entire family wiped out, a husband, a wife,
- 26:38Speaker 2: and a kid.
- 26:39Speaker 9: Have you ever heard that if a thousand people lose
- 26:42Speaker 9: their lives, it's a statistic? If one person loses their life,
- 26:45Speaker 9: it's a tragedy? Have you ever heard of that?
- 26:47Speaker 3: Well, Nick, that's one of the things. Coming out of college,
- 26:49Speaker 3: you've got a lot of slogans. Get into business, and
- 26:51Speaker 3: you'll have a lot of experience.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I know it's a cultural world.
- 26:54Speaker 9: All right, that's not the point, but I don't condone
- 26:56Speaker 9: unethical actions to make a couple extra dollars.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Well, unethical I think is pretty rough. I think it's
- 27:02Speaker 3: pretty rough. I think you're putting it to me pretty
- 27:05Speaker 3: hard without any real tenderness to say that it's unethical.
- 27:11Speaker 9: Unethical is being nice.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Well, I don't think you're being tender.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Well, what does tenderness have to do with it when
- 27:16Speaker 2: three people are dead? Nick, thank you for your call.
- 27:18Speaker 5: 1-800-449-8686.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Doris, you're on the line with Robert Green of Fraser Foods.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Well, good evening.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Yes, ma'am.
- 27:27Speaker 5: I'm so disgusted with this businessman.
- 27:31Speaker 3: I tell my drivers you.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Won't want to prefer your food. I want to suggest
- 27:36Speaker 5: to everyone listening that they do not, not go into
- 27:41Speaker 5: his stores and certainly not buy his service in any way, size, shape,
- 27:46Speaker 5: or form. He is endangering so many lives. How dare
- 27:51Speaker 5: he do this to his driver?
- 27:53Speaker 3: Why do you put on that phony accent? What's with
- 27:55Speaker 3: the phony accent? I.
- 27:57Speaker 2: What do you mean the phony accent?
- 27:58Speaker 3: Now, come on. Don't do not. What are you, Mrs.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Howell on the Gilligan's Island deal?
- 28:04Speaker 5: You are the most disgusting creature on God's earth.
- 28:09Speaker 3: And you need to... Hold on, hold on.
- 28:11Speaker 5: No, your business needs to be shut down. And it
- 28:14Speaker 5: needs to be coming from your customers.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Ma'am, I'm an American businessman. American businessmen are successful today
- 28:23Speaker 6: because we full steam ahead. We don't do what the
- 28:28Speaker 6: British do, which is to sit around and get permission.
- 28:32Speaker 6: We don't get permission to do business in this.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Country, ma'am. We go right out and do it. Well,
- 28:36Speaker 3: you're not going to put me out of business.
- 28:37Speaker 5: You are not a human being.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I'm not a human being?
- 28:39Speaker 8: In any way.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Well, if I'm not, I'm a rich non-human being, I'll
- 28:42Speaker 3: tell you that.
- 28:42Speaker 5: There you go. You're a rich non-human being. That's what
- 28:45Speaker 5: you put. That's the value you put on your drivers
- 28:48Speaker 5: and your customers.
- 28:49Speaker 9: Hey, why do.
- 28:51Speaker 3: You think America's number one in business today? Because we
- 28:53Speaker 3: didn't sit around like you British waiting for permission to
- 28:56Speaker 3: do stuff. We go ahead, full steam ahead, and we
- 28:59Speaker 3: get it done. Three people die. It's a tragedy. I'm sorry.
- 29:03Speaker 3: What do you want me to do?
- 29:04Speaker 5: I am going to suggest again.
- 29:06Speaker 3: That everyone who puts.
- 29:09Speaker 5: You out of business, and I'm going to, any time
- 29:11Speaker 5: I see one of your vans creating an infraction of
- 29:15Speaker 5: any size, shape, or form, the cops are going to know.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Doris, this is Phil Hendry. Now, hold on.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Now, she is saying there's going to be a, she
- 29:22Speaker 1: would organize a customer boycott.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Well, number one, our vans are not marked, so she
- 29:26Speaker 3: won't know it's us.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Wait a minute.
- 29:30Speaker 5: You think that all the listeners are stupid?
- 29:33Speaker 3: Well, apparently, no, just you. You're the only one that's stupid.
- 29:36Speaker 5: You know, this man is beyond it, Bill. This man
- 29:39Speaker 5: is totally beyond it. it.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Well, what do you mean if you see our vans?
- 29:42Speaker 5: I'm going to organize a boycott of your stores and
- 29:46Speaker 5: all your services.
- 29:47Speaker 3: First, you ought to be able to organize a ball movement.
- 29:50Speaker 2: All right, that is unnecessary.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Hey, look, ain't it tea time or something?
- 29:55Speaker 2: Look, you know, yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am.
- 29:57Speaker 5: I'm not going to be insulted anymore.
- 29:58Speaker 2: I understand.
- 29:59Speaker 5: I think this man is not a human being. He's
- 30:02Speaker 5: the slime of the earth.
- 30:04Speaker 6: But thank you for listening.
- 30:04Speaker 3: I think it's an example of why we let people
- 30:08Speaker 3: into this country.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Look, this is not an immigration question, sir. The lady
- 30:12Speaker 2: had a point she wanted to make, all right?
- 30:14Speaker 3: She wants her bangers and mash fresh. She had better
- 30:18Speaker 3: understand that Fraser Foods delivers in 30 minutes or less
- 30:22Speaker 3: or I start bleeding. Like I took a broom handle.
- 30:25Speaker 2: I hear you.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Robert Green of Frazier Foods locked in a dispute with
- 30:31Speaker 1: his drivers. He does not want to pay the extra
- 30:32Speaker 1: insurance until he starts seeing some more faster delivery times,
- 30:37Speaker 1: even on a day like today in Los Angeles when
- 30:39Speaker 1: it's been just pouring rain.
- 30:42Speaker 4: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 30:45Speaker 2: You got to make a delivery?
- 30:46Speaker 3: Well, that's what I'm talking about. One of my drivers
- 30:48Speaker 3: didn't show up, so we've got to get out and
- 30:49Speaker 3: get a delivery made.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I've got to tell you, I've got two police officers
- 30:53Speaker 2: hanging on the line here. I'm going to go to
- 30:54Speaker 2: Paul here. Paul is a 23-year Los Angeles Police Department veteran. Paul,
- 30:59Speaker 2: welcome to our program. Paul, you there?
- 31:02Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm here.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Okay. You're the police officer, sir?
- 31:06Speaker 10: Right, actually, I just retired. I've got twice as much
- 31:09Speaker 10: time on the job as this guy's got in business,
- 31:11Speaker 10: 34 years.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:13Speaker 10: Wait a minute.
- 31:15Speaker 3: What's a cop got to do with what I do
- 31:17Speaker 3: for a living?
- 31:18Speaker 10: Oh, buddy, I've got everything to do. Just hang on
- 31:20Speaker 10: and listen to my story for a second, if you
- 31:21Speaker 10: can keep your mouth shut, just for five seconds.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you're a cop.
- 31:26Speaker 10: First of all, what you've done, sir, on this program,
- 31:28Speaker 10: and I want to thank you for it, is you
- 31:30Speaker 10: have created a lawsuit waiting to happen. When, and I
- 31:35Speaker 10: don't say if, but when one of your drivers, due
- 31:39Speaker 10: to some unsafe driving tactics that he's been hammered into
- 31:44Speaker 10: his head that he must do to get there, creates
- 31:47Speaker 10: a traffic accident that causes one, two, or three of
- 31:50Speaker 10: these deaths that you don't seem to be too concerned.
- 31:54Speaker 3: About, You're going to make somebody very, very rich.
- 31:57Speaker 10: They're going to make somebody very, very rich. They are
- 32:01Speaker 10: going to own whatever the company it is you own.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Well, that's why you're a cop. You don't know anything
- 32:05Speaker 3: about the law. Well, what is that.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Supposed to mean? He knows about the law.
- 32:09Speaker 10: First of all, what you don't want to do is
- 32:10Speaker 10: get into a debate with me about the law.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Well, the simple thing is this. The simple thing is this.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Every person has an obligation. My drivers are sworn.
- 32:19Speaker 10: All right, hold on, gentlemen.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Just hold on for a minute, gentlemen. Hold on, this
- 32:24Speaker 2: is a police officer talking. What do you mean about
- 32:25Speaker 2: the law?
- 32:26Speaker 3: I mean civil law. I mean when it comes to
- 32:28Speaker 3: going into a civil claims court, he's out of his league.
- 32:32Speaker 2: All right, let the gentleman finish his comments, Mr. Green,
- 32:35Speaker 2: because we've given you almost an hour.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Okay, but if you want to sit here and, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 3: make me just sit here and have to bite a
- 32:41Speaker 3: towel while these people beat me up. No, no, no.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Go ahead, go ahead.
- 32:43Speaker 10: Let me ask you something, sir. Have you heard of
- 32:45Speaker 10: a company called Domino's Pizza?
- 32:48Speaker 3: Domino's Pizza?
- 32:48Speaker 10: Have you ever heard of Domino's Pizza? Have you ever
- 32:50Speaker 10: heard of them, sir? Have you ever heard of Domino's Pizza?
- 32:55Speaker 10: It's a simple question.
- 32:58Speaker 3: It's a pizza company. Is that correct? Excuse me.
- 33:00Speaker 10: I just asked for a yes or no answer.
- 33:02Speaker 3: You want to know the law?
- 33:03Speaker 10: Just pretend like I'm a lawyer. Yes or no, sir.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Have you heard of Domino's Pizza? You pretend like I'm
- 33:08Speaker 3: Marilyn Monroe. I'll tell you what.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Answer the man's question. Have you heard of Domino's Pizza?
- 33:15Speaker 3: Have I heard of Domino's Pizza? Is that his question? Yes, sir.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I'm racking my brain, obviously. I'm racking my brain.
- 33:27Speaker 2: You've never heard of Domino's?
- 33:30Speaker 10: Do you remember Domino's Pizza? Their famous thing was what?
- 33:34Speaker 10: 30 minutes or less.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Is that not correct?
- 33:38Speaker 10: You don't know.
- 33:38Speaker 3: You're asking me. I don't know the company. You don't know.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I came up with the 30-minute or less guarantee. I
- 33:43Speaker 3: know that.
- 33:43Speaker 10: Oh, excuse me, sir. You were way behind Domino's Pizza
- 33:46Speaker 10: when it came up to 30 minutes or less.
- 33:47Speaker 3: I just don't know that Domino's Pizza.
- 33:49Speaker 10: Anyway, sir, excuse me.
- 33:50Speaker 3: I wouldn't know Domino's Pizza from a boil on my
- 33:53Speaker 3: rear end, okay? I came up with the 30 minutes
- 33:55Speaker 3: or less guarantee. All right, let's just say... Let me
- 33:57Speaker 3: tell you something.
- 33:58Speaker 10: Domino's Pizza is a billion-dollar corporation, and yours is probably
- 34:03Speaker 10: a $ 2 organization the way you run it. But what
- 34:05Speaker 10: I'm trying to tell you is, sir, they were sued
- 34:08Speaker 10: for exactly what you're doing, telling their drivers they must
- 34:12Speaker 10: be there in 30 minutes or less. It costs them
- 34:15Speaker 10: so much in litigation fees. Win or lose the litigation.
- 34:19Speaker 3: I'd like to see your source material on that.
- 34:21Speaker 10: The source material, sir, it's mitigated law. You don't have
- 34:26Speaker 10: to be a brain surgeon.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Did this make the news?
- 34:29Speaker 10: Excuse me?
- 34:29Speaker 3: Did this make the news?
- 34:31Speaker 10: Make the news?
- 34:33Speaker 3: Please.
- 34:34Speaker 10: You're kidding.
- 34:35Speaker 2: You've never heard of Domino's Pizza, Mr.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Green.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Domino's Pizza is an enormous chain pizza delivery company, not unlike,
- 34:41Speaker 2: you know, the others. And they were sued, and they lost. And,
- 34:46Speaker 2: you know.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Well, how many pies were they delivering? Because I bet
- 34:49Speaker 3: you we got them beat. How many pies did they
- 34:50Speaker 3: do a day?
- 34:52Speaker 2: How many pies did they do a day? We're talking
- 34:54Speaker 2: all over America.
- 34:55Speaker 4: All over.
- 34:56Speaker 10: I cannot believe, sir, that you've not heard of Domino's Pizza.
- 34:59Speaker 3: I just can't... Look, I can't... I never heard of
- 35:02Speaker 3: you either, so what difference does it make?
- 35:05Speaker 10: Okay, let me just tell you one other thing. One
- 35:07Speaker 10: of these pizza companies, and it was not Domino's Pizza,
- 35:10Speaker 10: thank God, was doing such a rush because everybody, there's
- 35:14Speaker 10: a tremendous competition. When I was working acid investigation back
- 35:17Speaker 10: in the early 70s.
- 35:18Speaker 3: I like this guy telling me the restaurant business. I
- 35:20Speaker 3: just love it.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Will you let the man finish, please?
- 35:23Speaker 10: You know, you're about a rude individual, sir.
- 35:25Speaker 3: No, I just want to, was it Fincross?
- 35:27Speaker 10: I'm just trying to tell you something from my experience....
- 35:32Speaker 3: As a pizza delivery guy or as a cop?
- 35:34Speaker 2: As a police officer.
- 35:37Speaker 10: Boy, this guy is really rude.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Let me ask you a question. Are they the guys
- 35:39Speaker 3: that do the four cheese? That's all I want to know.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Are they the guys that do the four cheese? Because
- 35:42Speaker 3: then I've heard of them if they do the four cheese.
- 35:45Speaker 7: Who?
- 35:45Speaker 3: Domino's. Do they do the four cheese?
- 35:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:48Speaker 10: I don't know. I don't eat pizza very much. Just
- 35:50Speaker 10: listen to what I'm telling you. A pizza delivery, and
- 35:52Speaker 10: it wasn't Domino's, but a pizza delivery kid that was
- 35:55Speaker 10: trying to beat The Domino's 30-minute thing, because that's what
- 35:59Speaker 10: Domino's kind of set the standard at that time. He
- 36:02Speaker 10: ran across a railroad crossing, threw, and tried to beat
- 36:07Speaker 10: a red light.
- 36:08Speaker 3: I'd hire that kid. Okay.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Fine.
- 36:10Speaker 10: You don't have to hire him anymore, sir, because he
- 36:13Speaker 10: burned up in his vehicle. Another car.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Excuse me, sir. You know what? Then I wouldn't hire
- 36:19Speaker 3: him because he could.
- 36:20Speaker 10: Excuse me, sir. Let me explain something to you. Not
- 36:22Speaker 10: only did this.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Young man die... Will you.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Let this guy finish?
- 36:26Speaker 3: Jesus. You know what?
- 36:28Speaker 10: Not only did this young man die, three other people
- 36:32Speaker 10: died in two other cars because this young man had
- 36:35Speaker 10: to make his delivery as quickly as possible.
- 36:38Speaker 3: And you can't see where that young man... At least
- 36:41Speaker 3: he burned with dignity. Oh, my God.
- 36:43Speaker 6: All right.
- 36:44Speaker 10: Let me tell you something.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Paul, I've got to break. I've got to break.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Well, this guy, you know, if he wants to tell
- 36:48Speaker 3: me about Winchell's, maybe I'll listen.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Just hold on.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Phil Henry Shell.
- 36:52Speaker 3: When was your last pork chop inhalation? These are the
- 36:55Speaker 3: questions I ask myself.
- 36:57Speaker 4: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 36:59Speaker 3: 1-800-449-8686.
- 37:00Speaker 4: All right, Robert Green.
- 37:03Speaker 2: You still with me?
- 37:04Speaker 3: Phil, right now I am traveling at a very high
- 37:08Speaker 3: rate of speed. We're trying to get pizzas delivered because I...
- 37:10Speaker 3: Not pizzas, but I have to ask that cop about pizzas.
- 37:14Speaker 3: But I'm traveling at an extremely high rate of speed
- 37:17Speaker 3: to get our deli platter out because I had a
- 37:19Speaker 3: driver call up and say, I'm afraid to drive.
- 37:22Speaker 6: It's raining.
- 37:24Speaker 3: See, this is the kind of candy, Ash, that I
- 37:27Speaker 3: will not abide. I can tell you right now, Phil,
- 37:29Speaker 3: for all of my money and for all the things.
- 37:34Speaker 4: That I've done down in the years, I... 1-800-449-8686 The
