- Lucas: Ciao again, and welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Today we're going shopping, right Lucas? Lucas: Exactly! We're heading to a clothing store — a great real-world scenario for building vocabulary. Today we'll learn the Italian words for some common clothing items. Luna: Ooh, I love shopping. Let's start with something simple: a shirt. How do you say 'a shirt' in Italian? Lucas: A shirt is 'una camicia'. Let's say it together: una camicia. Luna: Una camicia. Lucas: Great, perfect! Now, if you want a pair of pants, you'd say 'dei pantaloni'. Luna: Dei pantaloni. That sounds a bit like 'pants' but with an Italian twist. Lucas: Yes, very similar! Now a dress: 'un vestito'. Luna: Un vestito. That's easy to remember. Lucas: And shoes: 'delle scarpe'. Luna: Delle scarpe. So 'scarpe' is shoes. Got it. Lucas: Now, when you're shopping, you'll often need to ask for a size. The word for size is 'taglia'. Luna: Taglia. So if I want a shirt in medium, I'd say 'una camicia in taglia M'? Lucas: Exactly! 'Vorrei una camicia in taglia M.' That means 'I would like a shirt in size M.' Let's practice that whole sentence: 'Vorrei una camicia in taglia M.' Luna: Vorrei una camicia in taglia M. That sounds like something I'd actually say while shopping. Lucas: Let's do a little scene. Imagine we're in a store. You say to the clerk: 'Vorrei una camicia in taglia M.' Luna: Vorrei una camicia in taglia M. Lucas: And I, as the clerk, might say: 'Ecco una camicia in taglia M.' — 'Here is a shirt in size M.' Luna: Oh, that's helpful. So 'ecco' is 'here is'. Lucas: Yes! Now let's review all the new words quickly: una camicia, dei pantaloni, un vestito, delle scarpe, una taglia. Luna: Una camicia, dei pantaloni, un vestito, delle scarpe, una taglia. Lucas: Perfect! You're ready for your shopping trip. Luna: I think I'll start with a dress. 'Vorrei un vestito in taglia S.' For a small. Lucas: That's exactly right! S stands for 'small' — 'taglia piccola'. Luna: Oh, 'piccola' means small. So 'taglia piccola'. Lucas: Exactly. And large would be 'taglia grande'. Luna: Okay, good to know. Lucas: You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Italian, a small gesture can keep these episodes going. A couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep the show ad-free and focused on teaching. We appreciate every bit of support. Lucas: All right, back to shopping! So, Luna, what else would you buy? Luna: I think I'd also get some shoes. 'Vorrei delle scarpe in taglia 38.' Lucas: Perfect! That's 'I would like shoes in size 38.' In Italy, shoe sizes are usually in European sizes, so 38 is a common women's size. Luna: Great. So today we learned clothing words and how to ask for a size. I feel ready for a shopping trip in Italy. Lucas: And you should be! Practice these words: una camicia, dei pantaloni, un vestito, delle scarpe, una taglia. And the phrase 'Vorrei... in taglia...'. Luna: Practice makes perfect. Thanks, Lucas! And thanks to all our listeners. Arrivederci! Lucas: Arrivederci! And don't forget to practice until next time.
