- 0:05Welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin. This is Ariel Santana.
- 0:10Can you believe I'm seven years old already? I'm old enough now to introduce my dad.
- 0:15Ladies and gentlemen, your host, my dad, Angel Santana.
- 0:22Two thousand came and the spark was lit. A testimony raw, it wouldn't quit.
- 0:27His mother's voice, a guiding sound.
- 0:54Good morning, everybody, and welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin. My name is Angel.
- 0:59And when this day begins, you
- 1:02know, the Lord has blessed us with so many different things in this world.
- 1:07I am currently working, so every once in a while, I'm going to have to hit pause
- 1:11to take certain things. And I apologize for that, but that was the only way
- 1:14that I can get this episode out.
- 1:16So let me ask you something this morning.
- 1:19When did it become so easy to stop loving somebody because we disagree with them.
- 1:24Think about it. Somebody says something we don't like, we're done with them.
- 1:28Somebody makes a mistake, we remember it forever.
- 1:32Somebody hurts our feelings, and suddenly, everything good they've ever done
- 1:37gets forgotten because of one bad moment.
- 1:40And don't even get me started on social media. We have a block,
- 1:44we have a delete, and we have an unfollow.
- 1:47Sometimes I think we're better at removing people from our lives than we are
- 1:51trying to understand them.
- 1:53But what if today we gave each other a little more grace?
- 1:57Forgiveness isn't easy. Forgiveness is one of those words that really easy to
- 2:02say when you're not the person who got hurt.
- 2:05You just have to forgive them. Okay.
- 2:09You weren't there. You didn't hear what they said. You didn't experience what they did.
- 2:14You didn't carry the hurt afterward. So I don't want to sit here this morning
- 2:19and pretend forgiveness is easy because it's not.
- 2:23And forgiveness doesn't mean what happened was okay. It doesn't mean trust automatically returns.
- 2:29It doesn't mean every relationship has to go back to the way it was.
- 2:34Sometimes healthy boundaries are necessary, But forgiveness,
- 2:38oh, forgiveness can begin when we decide.
- 2:41I'm not going to go and start saying one thing or the other,
- 2:44but think about this. When forgiveness begins, we have to decide.
- 2:48We have to say, I'm not going to allow what happened yesterday to control who
- 2:53I become tomorrow. That's different.
- 2:56Love one another. Jesus gives us a pretty straightforward command in John 13,
- 3:02verse 34. Love one another.
- 3:05Not only the people who agree with us Not only the people who vote like us Not
- 3:10only the people who worship exactly like us And not only people who never irritate us,
- 3:16love one another. And.
- 3:22That's where our faith gets difficult, our Christianity gets difficult.
- 3:26Our background of our religion gets difficult, because it's really easy for
- 3:30me to talk about God's love when I'm surrounded by people that I already love.
- 3:35The challenge is carrying that love into that place where it's difficult.
- 3:40Can I still treat someone with dignity when we disagree? Can I listen before I respond?
- 3:45Can I apologize when I'm the one who got it wrong? Oh, we don't like that one.
- 3:52Because sometimes we're praying, Lord, please change that person.
- 3:56And God's looking at us like, angel, we might need to work on you first.
- 4:02Maybe we need more grace. Imagine
- 4:04what would happen if we started giving people a little bit more grace.
- 4:08Because everybody you meet is carrying something.
- 4:12The person who snapped at you this morning, you don't know what happened before
- 4:16they walked through the door.
- 4:18No, that person who didn't return your call, maybe they're overwhelmed.
- 4:23The person who seemed distant, maybe they're hurting.
- 4:26That doesn't excuse bad behavior, but it might change the way we respond to it.
- 4:31And sometimes the most Christ-like thing we can do isn't winning an argument.
- 4:35It's saying, I don't completely understand what you're going through,
- 4:39but I'm willing to listen. So here's the challenge.
- 4:42Think of one person. Maybe it's somebody you need to forgive.
- 4:46Maybe it's somebody you need to apologize to. And maybe it's someone you've
- 4:50judged without knowing their entire story.
- 4:54Doesn't that ring a bell for some of us? Or maybe it's simply somebody who needs
- 4:58to hear, hey, I love you, and I'm thinking about you.
- 5:01Take one more step. Send a text. Make the phone call. Say the prayer.
- 5:07Offer the apology. And if reconciliation isn't healthy or possible,
- 5:12you can still pray, God, help me release the anger I am carrying.
- 5:17Because sometimes forgiveness isn't reopening a door. Sometimes forgiveness,
- 5:22is finally putting down the weight you've been carrying through it.
- 5:26So let's end down a prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for another day and another
- 5:30opportunity to become more like people. And you've called us to be.
- 5:35Lord, teach us to forgive. Teach me to forgive, Lord, because God knows I need to do that as well.
- 5:41Teach us to love. Teach us to listen before we judge and offer grace before we assume the worst.
- 5:46For anyone listening who has been deeply hurt, we ask you to meet them in that pain.
- 5:51We're not asking them to forget what happened or return to situations that are unhealthy.
- 5:56We ask you to begin healing what has been wounded.
- 6:00And so again, for anyone listening who has been deeply hurt,
- 6:04We ask you to meet them in that pain.
- 6:06We're not asking them to forget what happened or return the situations that are unhealthy.
- 6:11We ask you to begin healing that has been wounded. And Father,
- 6:15show us where we need forgiveness to.
- 6:18Give us the humility to apologize when we're wrong, the courage to forgive when
- 6:23we're ready, and the wisdom to know when boundaries are necessary.
- 6:27Most importantly, remind us that every person we encounter is someone you love.
- 6:31Let our words reflect that. Let our actions reflect that, and let our lives
- 6:36reflect that. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
- 6:39Before we close out today, and before you go today, remember this.
- 6:42You don't have to fix every relationship. You don't have to agree with everybody.
- 6:47And forgiveness doesn't always happen in a single moment.
- 6:51But today, yes, today, we can choose love over hate, grace over judgment,
- 6:56and forgiveness over carrying yesterday's anger into tomorrow.
- 6:59And maybe that's one more step today.
- 7:02I'm Angel Santana, and this is Have Faith, Let It Begin. A real people,
- 7:06real stories, real faith.
- 7:09A little faith can change your entire day. So have faith, let it begin.
