- 0:22SPEAKER_00: If you've ever been hiking on a trail in the woods, you've probably seen those markers that show your distance and keep you headed in the right direction.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: The purpose of those signs is to keep you from getting lost and to give you some guidance along the way.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Well, I believe there are similar signs in the writer's life, and these markers indicate our direction, but they're not always obvious as trail markers.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: One of the signs is fear.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: What are you afraid to do?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Is it outlining that book?
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Is it contacting that author who you want to meet?
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's setting up your website or sharing your writing with beta readers.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Your biggest writing-related fear is a huge indicator of the direction that you should go.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Your fear is often a sign pointing you to what you should be focusing on.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Ralph Waldo Emerson put it simply.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: He said this always do what you are afraid to do.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Most of us do the exact opposite.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: We let fear push us away from the very thing we should be doing.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: So you don't need to be afraid of fear.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Fear can actually be your best friend, a friend that gently guides you toward a creative calling that'll bring you greater success and fulfillment.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
