- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, it is the last break of the day
- 0:03Speaker 1: on this what it's Thursday?
- 0:05Speaker 2: Thursday? Yeah, went with.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Five pretty fast tonight. Mm hmm NBA Finals y'all watching
- 0:14Speaker 1: the game. Junior talked about that earlier. Okay, all right,
- 0:19Speaker 1: we got an email. Lady wants some advice from social media.
- 0:23Speaker 1: She wrote us on Steve Harvey FM. Her name is Nicole.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Nicole says, my sister graduated from high school last year
- 0:30Speaker 1: and did a year of community college, but decided it
- 0:34Speaker 1: wasn't for her and quit after two semesters.
- 0:38Speaker 2: She wanted to get out of.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Our hometown, so I let her move in with me
- 0:42Speaker 1: and my boyfriend. She has gotten a job, but it's
- 0:45Speaker 1: going nowhere, and she has no ambition or desire to
- 0:49Speaker 1: better herself. I know she's only nineteen, but I feel
- 0:53Speaker 1: like she's wasting her life away. I want her to
- 0:56Speaker 1: do something that she can feel passionate about.
- 1:00Speaker 2: How can I help.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Her to start thinking about the future and finding something
- 1:05Speaker 1: fulfilling to do.
- 1:06Speaker 2: What advice do you have?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Well, in order to do something that you're passionate about,
- 1:12Speaker 3: in order to do something that you wake up excited
- 1:15Speaker 3: to doing, you're gonna have to perform in some capacity
- 1:18Speaker 3: that pertains directly to your gift.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That's it.
- 1:25Speaker 3: If you're doing what you're gifted to do, you will
- 1:28Speaker 3: be passionate about that. I think what happens to young
- 1:32Speaker 3: people is you go to college and decide you want
- 1:35Speaker 3: to do this and that. But you're asking these young
- 1:37Speaker 3: people to make a decision about their life when they
- 1:40Speaker 3: don't have the skill set yet.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I don't know a whole lot.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Of people who go to college to get a degree
- 1:46Speaker 3: that end up working in the degree. Now, degrees are
- 1:49Speaker 3: helpful and useful, they really really are. Education is paramount
- 1:54Speaker 3: to a lot of people's success. That's important. Every successful
- 2:00Speaker 3: person is not tied to a degree. You know, it's
- 2:06Speaker 3: nothing I could have gotten a degree in that would
- 2:08Speaker 3: have turned me into who I am today. But you
- 2:12Speaker 3: have to sit young people down and talk about their
- 2:14Speaker 3: dreams and visions. That's the only thing that will spur
- 2:18Speaker 3: them to greatness is the pursuit of your dreams, goals,
- 2:22Speaker 3: aspirations and visions. That is what spurs you on to greatness.
- 2:26Speaker 3: If you tell a person just do something, go get
- 2:29Speaker 3: you a job, Go get you a job, what you're
- 2:33Speaker 3: telling them to do is just go get you and
- 2:35Speaker 3: make yourself some money where you can survive on it.
- 2:38Speaker 3: But people don't want to survive. People want to thrive.
- 2:43Speaker 3: People don't want to exist. People want to live. Look, man,
- 2:48Speaker 3: I don't want to just wake up every day and
- 2:51Speaker 3: be miserable. I want to wake up excited about today, man.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And you know it changes the dynamics when the word
- 3:00Speaker 3: say come out your mouth change. I have to go
- 3:02Speaker 3: to work today. I have to go down here with
- 3:05Speaker 3: these people. I have to pay these bills. I have
- 3:09Speaker 3: to go down here and try to get this car fixed.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I have to when you are doing something you're passionate about.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I wake up and say, I get to.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Do radio today.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I get to go and be on TV today. I'm
- 3:27Speaker 3: going to get a chance to go down here and
- 3:29Speaker 3: get me a car today. I get a chance to
- 3:33Speaker 3: come and work with some really cool people man, that
- 3:35Speaker 3: I absolutely like, and it ain't hard to be around them.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I get to do that because I am living in
- 3:42Speaker 3: my gift and my passion. If you own a job
- 3:46Speaker 3: that you don't like, it's hard to be passionate about it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: If you go to work and the work ain't what
- 3:54Speaker 3: you really want, hard to be passionate about it, hard
- 3:58Speaker 3: to be passionate about it something you ain't getting paid
- 4:01Speaker 3: your value for. Hard to be passionate about a check
- 4:04Speaker 3: that's only gonna get you live.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Let you live good enough to make it to the
- 4:08Speaker 2: next check.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Take your system, Sit her down and ask her what
- 4:14Speaker 3: are her dreams and aspirations.
- 4:16Speaker 2: See, we don't do that with our young people enough.
- 4:20Speaker 3: And even if you, as a parent haven't really fulfilled
- 4:24Speaker 3: your mission in life or your dreams or your visions,
- 4:28Speaker 3: that don't mean your children have to follow in your footsteps.
- 4:32Speaker 2: You can break the cycle in your family.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You can assure that one of them finally does what
- 4:39Speaker 3: they really want to do with their life. And it's
- 4:42Speaker 3: okay that they don't make a million dollars, but you
- 4:46Speaker 3: want them to be excited about something. You want them
- 4:50Speaker 3: to feel good about themselves when they wake up in
- 4:52Speaker 3: the morning to go do work. That's what you want
- 4:56Speaker 3: to do. So I would sit her down and talk
- 4:59Speaker 3: to her about that. It's not that she's lazy and
- 5:04Speaker 3: she's unmotivated because she hasn't found the thing that will
- 5:08Speaker 3: motivate her. But the one thing that will motivate you,
- 5:11Speaker 3: no matter who you are and how old you are,
- 5:15Speaker 3: start start chasing your dreams. Start start chasing what you
- 5:21Speaker 3: gifted at. If you chase your dreams and your gift,
- 5:26Speaker 3: and you become passionate about those two things, the future
- 5:33Speaker 3: is yours to hold.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Now, Listen to me. Don't get this confused.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Don't chase something you passionate about and that's not your gift.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I had a lady in family feud, raised her hand
- 5:46Speaker 3: and said, I've always wanted to be a singer, and
- 5:49Speaker 3: I heard one of your motivational speeches, and I'm gonna
- 5:53Speaker 3: go be a singer. But I'm forty nine years old,
- 5:55Speaker 3: and I don't know where to start. Listen to me.
- 5:59Speaker 3: If ain't no, nobody asked you to sing nowhere and
- 6:02Speaker 3: you forty nine, you're not a singer. If you ain't done.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I actually, as last said, have you done anywhere and now?
- 6:10Speaker 3: But I just want to be a singer. I say,
- 6:12Speaker 3: have you ever sang anywhere?
- 6:13Speaker 1: No?
- 6:15Speaker 3: Then you're not a singer. But I'm passionate about it.
- 6:18Speaker 3: You're not gifted at it. The Bible says your gift
- 6:23Speaker 3: will make room for you and put you in the
- 6:25Speaker 3: presence of great men. That's what your gift will do,
- 6:28Speaker 3: all right, follow them, dreams, follow your guilt to come passionate.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Those are my clothing locks again. I hope you'll have
- 6:37Speaker 3: the creat day today. Talk to God, he'd absolutely love
- 6:39Speaker 3: to hear from you.
