- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Someone commented on one of my recent videos and asked me, what is my number one piece of advice for someone who wants to become a successful coach?
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I immediately knew my answer and probably isn't totally what you think.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: There's an exercise that we have taught at IGC coaching school for years, and let me just like run it back.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: If you're new here, my name's Liv Chapman.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the CEO of IGC Coaching School.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: We've been training and certifying coaches for over a decade.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: We've certified thousands of coaches.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: And on top of teaching ICF accredited coaching curriculum, we also teach how to start a coaching business.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I believe that like, why have the skill?
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to make it a, you know, purpose-filled career?
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway,
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: back to the regular scheduled programming.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: So this is an exercise.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to teach it to you today.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's something that our coaches, they're taught how to use, they use it with their clients.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully the domino effect of this practice just is carrying on beyond my wildest dreams.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I do see we say change lives that change other lives.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I guarantee you this exercise has changed a lot of lives.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it's going to change yours.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: today.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's also something I always come back personally typically when I'm not getting what I want or if I'm trying to create something new in my own life.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to lead you through five steps.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, see it.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: Two, feel it.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: Three, be it.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: Four, do it.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: Five, have it.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: see feel be do hack and the problem is that most people want to skip straight to the have who doesn't they want to do something so that they can have something like what should I post today so I can get a client what should I sell today so I can get money what should I charge what should I update on my website what certification should I get why should I quit my job how do I get clients like a lot of these things because people want to have something
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: But what I have found is that sometimes that work.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it is really like cause and effect, but often you don't get the result that you want fully until you identify those other aspects first.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like we're obsessed with like the do have, do have do have and we have been taught that like action creates results.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: And while all of that is true,
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think sometimes we see evidence of this all the time.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm creating a YouTube video right now as we speak.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe I'm getting a lot of clients or leads from YouTube and you make a YouTube video and you don't get that right away or you want to have a big following on social media and you're posting content and she's posting content and she's growing faster and like,
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of it is due and a lot of it is time in the game, but a lot of it is actually holding the vision for what you are building and being very connected to that.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: So, the strategy matters, but if you skip everything that comes before the due, you're usually going to find yourself doing a lot of things without actually becoming the person who can sustain the result or the person who can even get the result.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: result.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to walk you through a more thorough process for getting everything you want and becoming the person who has it, which is really what this is about.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And what is that's really what my number one piece of advice is.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like you don't just wake up one day and get a successful business.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: Most people have to work for things that they want.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: The goal of this exercise is to really collapse time for you to be able to go from like, I'd really want to start a coaching
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so let's walk through this.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: Enough context.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Step one is see it.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is so freaking obvious.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you don't know where you're going, how are you going to get there?
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to be very clear on what you actually want and I mean what you actually want.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: not what your parents want, now what your husband or your partner wants, now what your degree says you're qualified to do or what would look impressive and LinkedIn or what your resume says for the past 10 years and not put some woman or influence on Instagram told you you were supposed to want, what do you want?
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I've said this before, but especially ambitious women, we are sometimes notoriously bad at answering that question because we do care.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: about how we're perceived, we do care about being successful, all of those things matter, but like the vision has to come from you.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: You have to see it before you can create it.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: This is the foundation for the having.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: When I first hired my very first coach before I ever even wanted to get into this stuff, I
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: She asked me what I wanted and I immediately defaulted to whatever one else in my life wanted for me and I don't want you to do that.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to close your eyes if you're not driving or you can, you know, do this part when you can close your eyes.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: And this channel of course is geared towards people who want to become coaches and start professional coaching businesses.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: So like, what do you actually see?
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself coaching clients?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself working from home?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself working from
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: The beach somewhere.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself having more flexibility?
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself being able to do other hobbies?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself having significantly more money?
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: Do you see yourself speaking at a stage writing a book?
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I want you to even think, what are you wearing?
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: How are you walking?
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: Where are you?
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's where we're starting.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: that version of her, that version of you may not be the person that's watching this video right now and maybe like stopping and scrolling and being distracted like, who is this person?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I need you to see that and I need you to see it through the lens of what you want not whatever when I was once for you.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where this whole thing starts.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: First you see it.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: What
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: growth, flexibility, money, your vision is number one.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: You got to see it.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: The more detailed the vision, the better.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to go old school, kicking it old school life coaching style, put it on a vision board, which is now, I think most people are making it with Kimba, but I think we really
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe need to start cutting pictures on a magazine again.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay?
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: The next piece of this puzzle this exercise is to feel it and this is where I want you to ask yourself If I actually had the life that I want the one that we just visioned, what would it feel like?
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: What would it feel like to be you?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: freedom, peace, purpose, pride, security,
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: excitement, safety, impactful.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's just like waking up on a Monday morning and not thinking like, you know, I want to do this again for the next 30 years.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes misery is actually a pretty good jumping off point if I do say so myself.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: How does it feel to be the person that wakes up in that vision in the sea that we just described?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what's interesting, like a lot of the time too, like we think we want the business or the money or the clients or the title or being known as the person who did XYZ, but what we're actually chasing is what we believe will allow us to feel a certain way.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: So one of my favorite coaching questions is what do you believe that having that vision will allow you to feel?
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because now we're getting a little bit like underneath the surface level goal and this is where the visualization can actually be incredibly powerful.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Can you actually put yourself there?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: Can you see it?
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Can you feel it?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: What does it feel like to be her?
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: I have a feeling some people listening to this are watching this, if you really allow yourself to feel what it would be like, it's probably exciting.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably inspiring.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of like the hardest test, but it's like you have to feel that before the external results sometimes.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that's really hard, and that's why a lot of people quit.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: We forget to hold that feeling in that vision when we're not getting the immediate results that we want.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: And this is also where, like, I think a lot of manifestation content loses me because this is also the point where it's not enough.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: more spiritual people may push back on me on that.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't believe that seeing and feeling it are enough to manifest it.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like you can make the vision board, you can visualize it, you can put this feeling into your body every morning.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: And like the candle and have this whole morning routine.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I really do love things like that.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think they can absolutely compliment what you're creating.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: But at some point you do have to be and do.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the B step
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: is the one that people skip the most, and it's arguably the hardest step.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: So, who do you need to be?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: in order to have what you just said that you wanted and this is where we get into kind of the foundation of how we even teach coaching at IGC.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: So our methodology is heavily influenced by ontology or simply put like the study of how someone is being.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: So instead of looking at just what are you doing?
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: We're also interested in who are you being while you're doing it.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: it were kind of reminds me of like when we were little kids and like we got in trouble and our parents were like say you're sorry and I'd be like sorry and they'd be like that doesn't count because I was still being a brat.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: You can't expect to have everything you want in life while being an older version of yourself.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: If that version of yourself has never gotten that thing before, bear with me, we're getting really ontological and a little bit hetty here, but like who are you being?
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's men in different gender identities that watch this channel, but I'm just using woman because I'm speaking to the guy.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm just getting into all of you, but like, how can you become the woman that has those things?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: What would she do?
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: What would they do?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: What would he do?
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: How would they act?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: How would they respond to that message?
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: How would they get up every day?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: What attitude would they have towards the work that was in front of them?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: And this distinction is really important because you cannot just do your way through life and expect to get the same result as someone who's fully embodied, meaning someone who sees the vision, knows what they're working towards, feels what it's like to be in that energy and it acts like that person.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: I have been not the person I wanted to be before and I have not gotten the results that I have wanted.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Once you kind of realize that about yourself, I think it's easier to shift.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like how would she act?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: How would you show up to your coaching business if you were already making six figures in your business?
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: would she skip out on answering her emails because she's like I don't really even think it's like worth it.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Would she neglect going to a networking event?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: Would she be afraid to tell people what she was doing?
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Would she be afraid to introduce herself as a career coach or a life coach or a confidence coach or a health coach?
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Would she be afraid to sponsor an event or speak at a workshop?
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: would she hold back from posting things on social media because of fear of what other people would think?
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, so you need to be her now.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's how you get those things that she has.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: Ultimately, this is just one of those really powerful things that coaches do, where instead of just giving you advice or being a cheerleader, we are asking you who you are being in relation to what you say that you want.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: And let's just say, like, your vision is you want to start a successful coaching practice.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: The bottom line is like, who do you need to be to create that?
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: And you cannot skip that step.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: You can not just hit your to-do list every day like, t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm done.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's like the version of you that's, you know, an admin in your company, but it's not the version of you that's completely successful in living out that vision and sometimes when you're embodying this and you're being this person you also have to be willing to be a beginner you have to be willing to practice you have to be willing to keep commitments to yourself you have to be willing to be uncomfortable.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: and you have to be decisive.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be courageous.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be consistent.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: You have to be resourceful.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you have to be patient.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Notice none of that was about doing anything.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because you have to have the being in check first.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: Now let's get to the do.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now that you've got the identity shift, like envision her name her.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: What does Beyonce have Sasha fierce?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: You need to make your own version of that.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: Drop it in the comments if you're brave.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Once you have that, you can move into the doing, right?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: So this is where you actually take action.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: How can you put this into practice?
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: What is this woman person doing, right?
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Because once you start doing those aligned actions with who you're becoming, that is how you start having things.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: So we're doing C,
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: feel, be, do, and have, and once you are taking those aligned actions, the doing part, that is when you start getting to the have.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: So if what you're doing is not creating the things that you want to have in your life, you need to go back and do the C field B.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: That is my number one advice for getting everything that you want.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: What do you see for yourself?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: How does it feel to have it?
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you need to be in order to get it?
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: What do you need to do so that you can have it?
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: And if you decide, you would like to be a CEO.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: If you decide, you would like to be a professional coach.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: I highly, highly recommend that you book a call with one of our advisors.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because that woman who has it all is not sitting alone,
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: In her room hoping that something changes by doing nothing, she is taking action, she is getting supported.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: She is holding herself to a higher caliber than perhaps she ever has before.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I remember sitting in my bedroom in my shared apartment in DC in 2012, being like,
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: She could do something like that, but I couldn't mean while I was like tinkering away a googling like how to start a coaching business Like could I be a career coach could I do this and I was like shy a little lurker in my freaking bedroom Until I finally spoke up and said something to someone and they were like
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: do this is the most aligned thing you've ever said.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: So if you need someone to tell you that, get on the phone with us and we'll tell you if it's aligned for you or not.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: But you cannot just sit in your room and think that things are gonna happen.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: Also, I guarantee you.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Your vision board is not like you hiding in your, uh, I'll speak for myself, hiding in your storage closet at work with like a little dream that will never manifest because you're too afraid to like say it to someone who would actually help you bring it to life.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I hope this was helpful.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Feel free to name your alter ego.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: the person you're becoming in the comments, share this with someone who has this being hidden away and maybe needs an exercise to bring it out, bring it to the surface.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: If you're feeling like called out, just know you are not alone, every new version of me, every new version of every client I've worked with, has to go through this process of deciding to become the person on the vision board.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for being here.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you found this helpful, like and subscribe, and we'll see
