- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Dirty Little Secrets.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Think on Nicks one or two point nine.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Good Morning Billy, a kid Canda, Slow Pets producer, Who's here?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Are your secrets? Your confessions?
- 0:11Speaker 3: Anytime you want, even if we're not doing Dirty Little
- 0:13Speaker 3: Secrets reach out. Sometimes people hit me up on the
- 0:16Speaker 3: Instagram at Billy on the radio and they're like, I
- 0:19Speaker 3: got a secret?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Can I tell this? Sometimes I'm like, no, that's too much.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Sometimes it's like involving people and other people. Yeah yeah,
- 0:26Speaker 3: and I'm like, okay, we can't do that. Well, thank
- 0:28Speaker 3: you so much. But others, ninety percent of the time,
- 0:30Speaker 3: I'm like, bring it on, Okay, you got one?
- 0:33Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 0:34Speaker 3: I do?
- 0:34Speaker 1: So I have a confession that happened years ago, but
- 0:39Speaker 1: I honestly carry I just carry the goat with me.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I just have ever since. Okay, So I used to
- 0:48Speaker 1: be in a high school teacher. I was a teacher,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but I won't say where, like what city, because I
- 0:54Speaker 1: don't I don't work for that district anymore, and I'm
- 0:56Speaker 1: really scared someone will recognize my boys. It was one
- 1:01Speaker 1: of those schools where a lot of famous people's kids,
- 1:05Speaker 1: when you know, like politicians or successful business owners and
- 1:10Speaker 1: professional athletes. And when I first started there it felt
- 1:14Speaker 1: so surreal, but then after a while they were just
- 1:17Speaker 1: students like everyone else.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I won't say any names, but I have an idea
- 1:21Speaker 3: of where it might be one, but I don't know
- 1:25Speaker 3: if that's it. I'm not gonna it could be, you know, honest,
- 1:28Speaker 3: it could be a lot of different cities around here.
- 1:30Speaker 2: But okay, it.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Could be a lot of cities. So there was this
- 1:34Speaker 1: one student in my class who was failing, not not.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Like barely failing.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I'm talking failing back. His dad was a very famous athlete.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But I can't give any hints because I do think
- 1:48Speaker 1: people would figure it out. So the semester it was
- 1:51Speaker 1: ending and I was pulled aside and told to make
- 1:54Speaker 1: sure that he passed by any means necessary. Really, So yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: And if you had asked me before that moment what
- 2:06Speaker 1: I would do, I would have said, absolutely not. I
- 2:09Speaker 1: would have my integrity is not for sale. But I caved.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I caved, and I passed him. Did you really, Yes? Yes,
- 2:20Speaker 1: there were reasons.
- 2:22Speaker 2: A lot of pressure. There's a lot of pressure, and
- 2:25Speaker 2: the part of it is who his father was.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And it didn't hurt that the student himself, was a
- 2:32Speaker 1: standout athlete himself.
- 2:35Speaker 2: None of that should have mattered.
- 2:37Speaker 1: It shouldn't have mattered, but in that moment it did. Yeah,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and it changed the grade and he passed.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He changed the Wow.
- 2:46Speaker 3: And I appreciate you being honest, and I know that
- 2:48Speaker 3: you're not proud of this situation that you were in.
- 2:51Speaker 3: But does this happen a lot? I feel like it does.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I don't want to say it because I love teachers.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but it's just not fair. They're put in
- 3:00Speaker 3: this position to have pressure put on you like that.
- 3:03Speaker 3: So it's not like you're the devil for doing this.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But I get why I would bother you.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yes, thank you. I know to some people this probably
- 3:11Speaker 1: doesn't sound like the biggest scandal in the world, but
- 3:13Speaker 1: it's still. It still bothers me, you know, like teachers,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I became one because I believe in fairness and accountability
- 3:23Speaker 1: and earning.
- 3:24Speaker 2: What you get.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And in that one moment, I compromise all of my values.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It really changed how I looked at myself, and honestly,
- 3:33Speaker 1: it played a big role and why I ended up
- 3:35Speaker 1: leaving the district. And I just promised myself that I
- 3:37Speaker 1: would never let anyone pressure me into something like that again,
- 3:41Speaker 1: And I don't care if it's the child of the
- 3:43Speaker 1: most famous person on the planet. If they don't earn
- 3:46Speaker 1: a grade, they don't earn the grade. Right, right, it's
- 3:51Speaker 1: a mistake I will always regret.
- 3:53Speaker 3: I could see why I would weigh on you, but
- 3:55Speaker 3: that would be tough, Like what do you do in
- 3:56Speaker 3: that situation?
- 3:57Speaker 1: Right?
- 3:58Speaker 3: I'm so curious as who the famous athlete is. But
- 4:01Speaker 3: you know, the fact of the matter is, there's so
- 4:03Speaker 3: many in this area. Like some cities, there's not a
- 4:06Speaker 3: lot of professional athletes that are that famous. There are
- 4:09Speaker 3: a lot here, so it could be anyone. I'm not
- 4:10Speaker 3: even going to go down that rabbit. It doesn't even matter.
- 4:13Speaker 3: My sister taught a couple of famous athletes. But did
- 4:16Speaker 3: she ever pass it?
- 4:17Speaker 2: No, she didn't. She wouldn't do it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: No, that's what I thought.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You never know, but you know what happened.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Do you know if she was approached and asked to
- 4:32Speaker 3: do that. No, she was never approached, but she did.
- 4:34Speaker 3: She did give him extra some extra credit. I do
- 4:38Speaker 3: know that, give some extra credit so he could bring
- 4:40Speaker 3: his grade up to a passing.
- 4:42Speaker 2: She tried to give him opportunity, opportunity.
- 4:45Speaker 3: She wouldn't she was never approached, as long as you'll
- 4:47Speaker 3: give those opportunities to other students. Yeah, and it's fair. Yeah, okay, wow,
- 4:52Speaker 3: Well that what a good confession.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Thank you. Hopefully you can move on and you're still
- 4:57Speaker 2: teaching though, right.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I am, but I'm not going to stay where.
- 5:00Speaker 2: No, don't anything.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Don't say where. But you know, good for you for
- 5:05Speaker 3: getting off your chest. And at least you do feel guilty.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I know some people wouldn't even care, right, they do
- 5:09Speaker 3: it again, so at least you learn from it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But thank you for that confession. We appreciate it.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Thank you all for letting me get it off my chest.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I mean, life's not fair, it's unfortunate, but it's you know,
- 5:20Speaker 3: these advantages happen to people in positions.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it sucks.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Though when you think about it, I wouldn't do it.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I'm like, no, I no, I don't think I would.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I don't.
- 5:28Speaker 3: But then again, right, what if it was your like
- 5:30Speaker 3: favorite favorite favorite player, right, or you have a family
- 5:33Speaker 3: and you have like I can't lose my job. Whether
- 5:35Speaker 3: it's right or not, I don't know. It's a lot
- 5:37Speaker 3: to think about, there, You go
