- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, this is Annie and Samantha and welcome to stuff
- 0:08Speaker 1: I never told your production by Heart Radio, and welcome
- 0:17Speaker 1: to another sub sub sub segment of fictional women around
- 0:21Speaker 1: the world. Today we are talking about the mysterious Ada
- 0:25Speaker 1: Long and the reason she was on my mind is
- 0:30Speaker 1: because this is a character from Resident Evil and the
- 0:34Speaker 1: new Resident Evil trailer came out. It's by the same
- 0:38Speaker 1: person who did Barbarian and Weapons, and it looks very
- 0:46Speaker 1: different than Resident Evil does.
- 0:48Speaker 2: But I'm excited. I'm not.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I know that some people are already mad because they
- 0:54Speaker 1: think it doesn't look like the game. I will open mind.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's where I am. That's where I am perfect. I'm
- 1:01Speaker 1: gonna say I don't think Ada is going to show
- 1:03Speaker 1: up in it. Oh, I don't think it's that type
- 1:05Speaker 1: of movie. Maybe it could. If it goes a completely
- 1:12Speaker 1: different way than I think it will, then maybe she will.
- 1:15Speaker 1: So I have talked about this before. I have played
- 1:19Speaker 1: a lot of the Resident Evil games. I have seen
- 1:23Speaker 1: most of the movies.
- 1:24Speaker 2: They are generally bad.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But sometimes fun, sometimes fun. This is a huge franchise
- 1:31Speaker 1: with movies, video games, comic books. I think it's usually
- 1:35Speaker 1: called like the what made Survival Horror? Games into what
- 1:38Speaker 1: they are now. It had very new camera angles for
- 1:45Speaker 1: a video game. When the first Resident Evil came out.
- 1:48Speaker 1: That made it really scary because like you would turn
- 1:50Speaker 1: a hole in the camera angle change you turn them
- 1:53Speaker 1: down a hallway. But anyway, yes, huge franchise. Aida first
- 1:58Speaker 1: appeared in the game Resident Evil Too, which is my
- 2:01Speaker 1: personal Resident Evil too Residu Evil four my favorites. Four
- 2:07Speaker 1: often gets credited with turning Survival Horror into more action
- 2:11Speaker 1: based games. But anyway, she was mentioned and Resident Evil won.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Though you can you find a note about her and
- 2:21Speaker 1: her name is the code you use. Residentt Evil has
- 2:25Speaker 1: the strangest like you have to go to this statue
- 2:30Speaker 1: and move it for spaces and then look in the
- 2:34Speaker 1: eye of it and then like it's got the weirdest puzzles.
- 2:39Speaker 1: One was figuring out who Ada was and she was
- 2:42Speaker 1: in a romantic relationship with this researcher guy, which we're
- 2:46Speaker 1: gonna talk about more in a second. As with most
- 2:50Speaker 1: franchises we talk about here, Ada's character has a lot
- 2:53Speaker 1: of conflicting details in her backstory, a lot of red
- 2:58Speaker 1: cons which is when they go back change something. In
- 3:02Speaker 1: this case, in her backstory, I mentioned this both because
- 3:06Speaker 1: this makes condensing her character story into something cohesive very difficult,
- 3:12Speaker 1: but also because I chose her in part because of
- 3:16Speaker 1: AAPI heritage month and depending on the version of her
- 3:20Speaker 1: your reading, it is unconfirmed but implied. She's Asian, specifically Chinese,
- 3:26Speaker 1: but in one particular arc someone thinks she's either an
- 3:31Speaker 1: American or USSR agent, so your mileage may vary with
- 3:39Speaker 1: how she is actually depicted. Also, she's like a very
- 3:44Speaker 1: scantily clad fem fatale type of course, just to put
- 3:48Speaker 1: your mind at where she is. Of course that's her role. Okay,
- 3:53Speaker 1: So very brief rundown of the resident Evil franchise as
- 3:58Speaker 1: it pertains to Adas specific because there are a lot
- 4:01Speaker 1: of other shenanigans that happens outside of parameters of her story,
- 4:06Speaker 1: is that essentially a corporation called the Umbrella Corporation created
- 4:09Speaker 1: the T virus and a bunch of other viruses honestly
- 4:13Speaker 1: or yeah, like similar bioagents that cause people exposed to
- 4:18Speaker 1: it to turn into zombies or worse. On top of that,
- 4:22Speaker 1: there are engineered bioweapons like liquors, which are humanoids with
- 4:26Speaker 1: long lethal tongues that they created. Liquors are bad news.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Some metha no good. These outbreaks involve a lot of
- 4:35Speaker 1: government and corporate cover ups. It's a zombie outbreak story
- 4:39Speaker 1: with a lot of shadowy espionage stuff happening, and that
- 4:43Speaker 1: is where Ada comes in, the shadowy espionage stuff. So
- 4:47Speaker 1: one of the things that makes telling Ada story difficult
- 4:50Speaker 1: is she is an assassin slashed by that uses a pseudonym.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Like you don't know anything about her.
- 4:57Speaker 1: That's kind of the point. She is really talented at
- 5:00Speaker 1: her job and is a go to option for corporations
- 5:03Speaker 1: to handle sensitive matters like needing to cover up being
- 5:07Speaker 1: the cause of a zombie outbreak. She was frequently enlisted
- 5:11Speaker 1: to gather intel during a biohazard event and as I
- 5:15Speaker 1: said in a previous episode about another character in Resident Evil,
- 5:19Speaker 1: Resident Evil was originally called biohazard and she just generally
- 5:23Speaker 1: would clean up after them. However, she will portray organizations
- 5:28Speaker 1: or companies if what they demand of her goes against
- 5:31Speaker 1: her true purpose and true purposes and quotes because of
- 5:36Speaker 1: her profession, we don't know a lot about her past
- 5:40Speaker 1: or how she got into espionage. We do know at
- 5:43Speaker 1: one point villain Albert Wesker, who is quite the character.
- 5:49Speaker 1: He's like cartoonishly villainous, like over the top cartoonishly villainous,
- 5:55Speaker 1: recruits her away from a rival company to well, he
- 6:00Speaker 1: tries too, he doesn't really succeed. So they sort of
- 6:02Speaker 1: worked together on and off for this rival company, and
- 6:06Speaker 1: sometimes it appears she also worked for an Umbrella. But anyway,
- 6:10Speaker 1: she made connections with a corrupt government official and secret
- 6:15Speaker 1: frat bro like one of those scary controls everything frats like,
- 6:19Speaker 1: one of the really dangerous ones. She was assigned to
- 6:23Speaker 1: infiltrate Umbrella to gather intel on the bioweapons they were developing.
- 6:28Speaker 1: One of the researchers working there started up a romantic
- 6:31Speaker 1: relationship with her, which Ada used to get access to
- 6:35Speaker 1: the information her client company wanted.
- 6:38Speaker 2: He seemed really inter though, and.
- 6:40Speaker 1: As I said, he used her name as a password
- 6:43Speaker 1: part of his password. The company employing her then sent
- 6:47Speaker 1: her to obtain a sample of another virus Umbrella was developing.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Wesker was leading this mission when Ada made her way
- 6:56Speaker 1: to the Raccoon City Police station as part of the mission,
- 6:59Speaker 1: she found that it was overrun by zombies, dead bodies,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and one rookie police officer, Leon Kennedy.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Which, by the way, Leon Kennedy.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Usually fan casting is Jensen acles it looks kind of
- 7:16Speaker 1: like him anyway. To cover while she was there, she
- 7:20Speaker 1: pretended she was looking for her boyfriend. She decided to
- 7:24Speaker 1: work alongside Leon to get the information she needed under
- 7:28Speaker 1: the guise of escaping the city. Eventually, she found the
- 7:31Speaker 1: lab she was looking for, but was injured. You can
- 7:34Speaker 1: get a couple different versions of how this happens, but
- 7:37Speaker 1: either she was shot or she was thrown into a
- 7:41Speaker 1: shaft by a super mutant zombie.
- 7:44Speaker 2: It was very scary, by the way.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Whatever happened, she managed to escape and saved Leon along
- 7:52Speaker 1: the way. While she didn't get the virus sample, she
- 7:55Speaker 1: did manage to get a sample from someone who was infected. However,
- 8:00Speaker 1: her original client had died by suicide and Aida was
- 8:04Speaker 1: confronted by Wesker. He was willing to let her die,
- 8:08Speaker 1: but she had the tissue, which saved her because he
- 8:10Speaker 1: wanted it. Thanks to Wesker's information, Ada was able to
- 8:16Speaker 1: escape the city before it was bombed. In the remake,
- 8:20Speaker 1: which I have but haven't played, and also have really
- 8:23Speaker 1: enjoyed online videos of how they people have made Tyrant
- 8:28Speaker 1: or Nemesis look like Pennywise. The clown or something. In
- 8:32Speaker 1: the remake, Aida poses as an FBI agent, so this
- 8:36Speaker 1: is all different. But anyway, after this event, while Aida
- 8:41Speaker 1: was excelling at her job, she was struggling in the aftermath,
- 8:44Speaker 1: including her feelings not necessarily romantic, towards Leon. She tried
- 8:50Speaker 1: to paint them as the feelings of her character, as
- 8:53Speaker 1: in the character she was playing when she was with
- 8:56Speaker 1: him had these feelings and not her specifically. When she
- 9:00Speaker 1: learned that the current strategy of her employer was to
- 9:03Speaker 1: pretty much wipe out everyone who lived in Raccoon City,
- 9:06Speaker 1: which is where Umbrella was largely based, to erase what
- 9:10Speaker 1: had happened.
- 9:11Speaker 2: She left. She followed those true values.
- 9:14Speaker 1: She did continue to work with Umbrella's rival company, sometimes
- 9:19Speaker 1: alongside or against Wesker through her suspicions about him. She
- 9:25Speaker 1: learned that there was a dangerous R and D project
- 9:27Speaker 1: being conducted by Los Illuminatos in Spain, and this is
- 9:32Speaker 1: residievil four. This is the events of Residue bel four.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Ado was sent to obtain a sample and guess who
- 9:39Speaker 1: was there, Leon, who is there to rescue the US
- 9:44Speaker 1: President's daughter. Aida saves Leon, but is captured in the
- 9:49Speaker 1: process and wakes to find out her captors intend to
- 9:52Speaker 1: use her as a ritual sacrifice. She manages to escape
- 9:56Speaker 1: and finds her target, but he does not have the
- 10:00Speaker 1: sample she was sent to retrieve. It's pretty cool because
- 10:04Speaker 1: the game is from Leon's perspective, but you can play
- 10:08Speaker 1: her side of it and the downloadable content a DLC.
- 10:11Speaker 1: It turns out that she's a double agent, also working
- 10:14Speaker 1: for the organization, which we know nothing about. After she
- 10:18Speaker 1: learns of Wesker's plan and that it will kill millions
- 10:21Speaker 1: of people, she refuses to hand him the sample. But
- 10:24Speaker 1: it is really fun. She has like a like a
- 10:27Speaker 1: grappling hook thing that's really fun to play with. Anyway,
- 10:32Speaker 1: Ada runs into Leon and they have a very flirty
- 10:35Speaker 1: charge spar slash interrogation thing where Leon demands info about
- 10:42Speaker 1: her relationship with Wesker and she refuses to tell him.
- 10:46Speaker 1: After they part ways, Ada gets ordered to assassinate Leon
- 10:51Speaker 1: from Wesker because Leon is an obstacle and a distraction.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Aida ignores these orders and a Wesker temporary relents. However,
- 11:01Speaker 1: she then found out from Wesker someone else was sent
- 11:04Speaker 1: to kill Leon. Ada safe Leon again from the would
- 11:09Speaker 1: be assassin, who is later defeated by Leon that survived.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Wesker transferred the order to kill Leon back to Ada,
- 11:19Speaker 1: but with the understanding that collecting the sample came first,
- 11:23Speaker 1: so she should put her priorities there. She runs into
- 11:27Speaker 1: Leon again, who is now infected with the parasite and
- 11:32Speaker 1: tries to choke her to death. Immediately he stops, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: she is adamant that they get the parasite out of him.
- 11:39Speaker 1: He disagrees, claiming that he has to save the President's
- 11:42Speaker 1: daughter first, so she continues on her mission and kills
- 11:47Speaker 1: the assassin that was sent after Leon along the way.
- 11:52Speaker 1: When she finds the sample, She also finds Leon and
- 11:55Speaker 1: his charge, the President's daughter, and she helps them escape.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Then she was captured again and rescued by Leon again.
- 12:07Speaker 1: They work together to defeat their enemies, but then Ada
- 12:12Speaker 1: demands that Leon hand over the sample she's been seeking,
- 12:15Speaker 1: and she does this at gunpoint, so he gives it
- 12:17Speaker 1: to her. She makes it to her rendezvous point, but
- 12:22Speaker 1: not before making sure Leon had a chance to escape,
- 12:24Speaker 1: so the whole place was going to blow. She gave
- 12:27Speaker 1: him the keys to like a jet ski so he
- 12:30Speaker 1: could get out. Ada continues to participate in corporate espionage
- 12:34Speaker 1: and even international conflicts. She continues to run into Leon.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Someone makes a doppelganger of her at one point, so
- 12:44Speaker 1: much more stuff. She is a fan fave, I would say,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and she's really interesting because the way she's sometimes an ally,
- 12:52Speaker 1: sometimes an adversary, but always seems to do things on
- 12:57Speaker 1: her own terms.
- 12:58Speaker 2: That's what we could count on.
- 13:02Speaker 1: But when she shows up in the game and Reside
- 13:04Speaker 1: Evil four especially, it's like, it's fun because you don't
- 13:08Speaker 1: know what her giral is, but you do know that
- 13:13Speaker 1: she's gonna help you. Maybe it's just like an exciting mystery. Yes,
- 13:19Speaker 1: so I did really like when they released the DLC
- 13:21Speaker 1: and you played her side of it.
- 13:23Speaker 2: It was really fun.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I don't think the new Residevil movie is going to
- 13:27Speaker 1: lean into the based on the trailer, the corporate espionage
- 13:32Speaker 1: part of it so much, so, I don't think she'll
- 13:35Speaker 1: be there, but I could be wrong.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It'd be like a surprise appearance and then just so
- 13:43Speaker 1: quick it could be. I honestly think they're not going
- 13:46Speaker 1: to include any characters. I don't think they're gonna. I
- 13:50Speaker 1: think it's its own thing. I don't think they're gonna
- 13:52Speaker 1: so they're creating their own stuff. I think. I'm pretty
- 13:55Speaker 1: sure it happens. It happens during Resident Evil two, but
- 14:00Speaker 1: it's not related to the events in Resident Evil Too. Well,
- 14:04Speaker 1: it's not like related to the characters in Resident Evil Too.
- 14:06Speaker 1: It's like a side story that's happening alongside it, but
- 14:09Speaker 1: it's not so I don't think any of them are
- 14:11Speaker 1: going to show up, which is fine with me. That's
- 14:13Speaker 1: what they did with the first movie, because the director
- 14:16Speaker 1: of that one said everyone will know how it ends
- 14:18Speaker 1: and all the suspense will be gone if we do it.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I was same, Yeah, maybe it's better you have different expectations.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Maybe I think that's a double edged short. But yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I personally am not mad about it, but I know
- 14:33Speaker 1: some people very.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Mad, So we shall see.
- 14:38Speaker 1: We shall see. But Ada had a really cool She
- 14:41Speaker 1: had a lot of cool interests. Like I said, she
- 14:44Speaker 1: was a fem fatale, like very much in that role.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I did think she was flirting with Lyon though as
- 14:53Speaker 1: part of it, and he was flying back.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It was in my opinion of the mutual but so
- 14:59Speaker 2: take that. Take that as you will.
- 15:01Speaker 1: But she did have a lot of cool interests, all right, Yes,
- 15:06Speaker 1: good to know, Uh huh, yeah, Well, listeners let us
- 15:11Speaker 1: know what you think. If you have any suggestions thoughts
