- 0:24Well, hey guys, it is John C.

- 0:51make this a daily part of their lives.
- 0:55So yes, we have a very, very good
- 0:57show for you guys.
- 0:58We always have a good show.
- 0:59You know that.
- 1:00And I think that's something that a lot
- 1:01of people, you know, they don't really understand.
- 1:04Just fixing my headset here a second.
- 1:07I think a lot of people, when they
- 1:09hear, you know, motivation, they sometimes get stuck,
- 1:13right?
- 1:13They don't necessarily know, like, what it is,
- 1:16why something's working a certain way.
- 1:19And I think that comes down to, you
- 1:21know, us living and being a certain way,
- 1:24right?
- 1:25So I want to tell you that motivation
- 1:28is not something you just do one day.
- 1:30You have to do it.
- 1:30Keep doing it until it becomes autonomous.
- 1:34If you have not checked out BelieveMeAchieved.com,
- 1:36do that after the show is over.
- 1:37You can do that 24 hours a day,
- 1:39long-form content, short-form content, reels and
- 1:42so much more.
- 1:42So check that out.
- 1:44I have a nice, delicious Swiss Miss hot
- 1:46cocoa here.
- 1:49Still nice and hot.
- 1:51Really good.
- 1:52My nice little thermos.
- 1:54So again, it is great to have you
- 1:55here on the show.
- 1:57So welcome everyone to, yes, Inspirations for Your
- 2:00Life.
- 2:00Who am I?
- 2:01I'm John C.
- 2:02Morley.
- 2:03I'm a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 2:06producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student,
- 2:10and a lifelong passionate learner.
- 2:12And pretty soon I will be, yes, an
- 2:15author, as my book is coming out probably
- 2:17in late May or June.
- 2:19Today's episode is titled Inner Standards, Creating Freedom.
- 2:23We live in a world of constant distraction,
- 2:26comparison, and pressure to perform.
- 2:28In this episode, I'm going to explore how
- 2:31creating inner standards, personal rules, and self-discipline
- 2:35gives you the clarity, the calmness, and the
- 2:37sustainability for momentum.
- 2:39Now, these are practical strategies for intentional living,
- 2:43building self-trust, and gaining freedom from reactive
- 2:46behavior.
- 2:48You know, the best way I could tell
- 2:50you reactive if you've ever been a board
- 2:51before, and maybe that board, somebody didn't like
- 2:54your post.
- 2:55But you know what?
- 2:57It's always a couple people that are not
- 2:58going to like the party, right?
- 3:00But it's funny, you're getting all that attention,
- 3:02and people are actually jealous that you're getting
- 3:04that attention.
- 3:05Well, number one, guys, protect your energy.
- 3:08Protect your energy.
- 3:09Standards protect energy, focus is a resource, guard
- 3:13it wisely.
- 3:14I think too many people are frivolous with
- 3:16their resources, and then they wonder, oh my
- 3:18gosh, why can't I get anywhere?
- 3:20Well, it's because you're frivolous with your resources.
- 3:22Number two, guys, I got to have some
- 3:24more of this hot cocoa.
- 3:25This hot cocoa was like really the bomb
- 3:26tonight.
- 3:30Still deliciously hot.
- 3:32It took us a few extra seconds to
- 3:33get keyed up tonight because Focusrite decided just
- 3:36out of the blue that they were going
- 3:38to launch a brand new firmware update.
- 3:41Well, whenever they do that, there's always settings
- 3:42that get changed.
- 3:43That took me a minute or two to
- 3:44get that calibrated so that we could get
- 3:46back on the air with you guys.
- 3:47But they don't push out updates very often,
- 3:50so I am happy about that.
- 3:51And it was also a firmware update, so
- 3:53they had to update the device as well.
- 3:56Number two, inner rules reduce chaos.
- 4:00Structure brings clarity.
- 4:01A lot of people don't realize that structure's
- 4:05not to penalize us, it's to give us
- 4:07clarity.
- 4:10And that's important.
- 4:11Number three, guys, discipline creates choice.
- 4:15Freedom comes from consistency.
- 4:18And it looks like we're starting to get
- 4:19some bad connections here from Atom and Altice.
- 4:23We've been having lots of issues with them
- 4:25off on, off on, telling me my internet's
- 4:28no good.
- 4:29My internet is fine.
- 4:30I mean, it's just Optimum sucks.
- 4:31I just got to be pretty honest with
- 4:33you.
- 4:33So discipline creates choice.
- 4:35Freedom comes from consistency.
- 4:36Optimum, why can't you get your stuff together
- 4:38and figure out how to maintain internet connections?
- 4:42I honestly wish you guys wouldn't be in
- 4:43business because it's like, you're just terrible.
- 4:46You're absolutely terrible.
- 4:47So discipline creates choice, freedom, and it comes
- 4:49from consistency.
- 4:50I hope we don't get knocked off the
- 4:51air.
- 4:52It says we're unstable.
- 4:54I know we're not unstable.
- 4:56But again, this is getting really, really crazy.
- 6:02All right, guys, we are back.
- 6:03Like I said, Optimum's been doing some really,
- 6:05really crazy stuff here.
- 6:08And unfortunately, they suck.
- 6:10I mean, that's just the best way to
- 6:11put it.
- 6:13Unfortunately, you know, we put all this money
- 6:15and resources into internet.
- 6:17But when companies like Optimum show up and
- 6:20Altice that are from another country like France,
- 6:23well, let's just say they can't even shine
- 6:24our shoes.
- 6:25I mean, the fact that they have all
- 6:26these connection things, I mean, their service just
- 6:29sucks.
- 6:30I mean, that's just the best way to
- 6:31say it.
- 6:31So I apologize for the interruptions.
- 6:34But unfortunately, Optimum does suck.
- 6:38And as I was saying to you about
- 6:40the standards, what I was saying about the
- 6:42disciplines and things like that, these are important
- 6:44things for us to understand and also to
- 6:49be part of.
- 6:50But I think a lot of times when
- 6:53we think about inner standards, right, and we
- 6:55think about, you know, what all this means,
- 6:57and we think about the fact that, you
- 6:58know, we don't expect a lot, but we
- 7:00do expect that people are going to be
- 7:02at least accountable.
- 7:04And as I said, we're talking about inner
- 7:06standards.
- 7:07Maybe Optimum should actually come up with some
- 7:09of their own that actually work.
- 7:12Freedom, right?
- 7:13I talked about comparison.
- 7:14I talked about distraction.
- 7:15And then we got rudely interrupted there for
- 7:17a few seconds.
- 7:19So these are all practical, as I said
- 7:22to you, right?
- 7:22And so when we think about building, it's
- 7:27hard for a lot of people to digest
- 7:28that concept.
- 7:29But it is very, very important.
- 7:33Now we were talking about number three before
- 7:35we rudely got interrupted.
- 7:36Discipline creates choice.
- 7:37Freedom comes from consistency.
- 7:39Boundaries prevent burnout.
- 7:41Energy is finite.
- 7:43So we have to protect it, guys.
- 7:47Clear limits.
- 7:49Sharpen focus.
- 7:52Knowing what improves results.
- 7:55Knowing what improves results.
- 7:58So number six, self-discipline, guys, builds confidence.
- 8:03Action creates belief in yourself.
- 8:05And I think when we can take one
- 8:07action and we can move forward, well, guys,
- 8:09that's what sets the magic in motion, right?
- 8:14Number nine, standards simplify decisions.
- 8:18Fewer options, faster action, number seven.
- 8:20And number eight, inner structure creates a calmness
- 8:23order inside and it leads us to clarity
- 8:26outside our bodies.
- 8:27Number nine, discipline is the key, guys.
- 8:30And it creates mental control.
- 8:33Number 10, standards prevent regret.
- 8:37Conscious choices reduce second-guessing.
- 8:41That is delicious, guys.
- 8:43So build clarity and alignment.
- 8:47Number 11, self-control creates clarity and a
- 8:50focused mind makes better decisions.
- 8:52Number 12, inner order creates stability.
- 8:55Consistent structures strengthen resilience.
- 8:58Number 13, discipline trains trust.
- 9:01Reliability builds credibility and self-respect.
- 9:03And getting back on the Optimum and Altice
- 9:06bandwagon, I have to tell you that they
- 9:09have been so unreliable this entire week.
- 9:13They've had some kind of nonsense.
- 9:15Every day, I've been kind of knocked off
- 9:17the air for a couple seconds, even before
- 9:20I streamed.
- 9:21And I don't know, it's like, I just
- 9:23wish there would be a service that actually
- 9:25could, like, stand up to, like, reliability and
- 9:27integrity.
- 9:28It's not Optimum, it's not Altice, I'll tell
- 9:30you that.
- 9:31So number 13, discipline trains trust.
- 9:33Reliability builds credibility and self-respect.
- 9:36That's important, guys.
- 9:37If you're thinking about self-respect as something
- 9:41you just get at the grocery store, well,
- 9:42you don't really understand self-respect.
- 9:46You're maybe enticed with the concept of it,
- 9:49but you don't really know what it's standing
- 9:51for.
- 9:55Number 14, standards reduce emotional swings.
- 9:59Stability creates peace of mind.
- 10:01I've got to have more of this hot
- 10:02cocoa, it's really, really good, guys.
- 10:06It looks like Optimum has gotten that air
- 10:09out of their system.
- 10:10Well, they don't have air in the system,
- 10:11but you get my point.
- 10:12Whatever issue they were having, I don't know,
- 10:14they're just so horrible, their service.
- 10:16Number 15, consistency builds credibility.
- 10:19Small repeat actions compound influence day in and
- 10:22day out.
- 10:23Number 16, guys, discipline protects momentum, and it
- 10:27keeps us moving forward with steady habits.
- 10:29See, that's the key.
- 10:31It's steady habits.
- 10:32It's not something that's just happening once.
- 10:34It's happening consistency in our life.
- 10:37When something happens consistency, it's like, oh, wow,
- 10:40that's now starting to hit home with us,
- 10:44starting to hit home with us.
- 10:47Number 16, discipline protects momentum.
- 10:52We keep moving forward with the steady habits.
- 10:55It's our discipline that keeps the engine going,
- 10:58keeps that momentum on track.
- 11:01Even when you might say, gee, I don't
- 11:03know where to get discipline from.
- 11:05You can get it.
- 11:08Discipline protects the momentum.
- 11:09As I said, it keeps moving forward us
- 11:12in the direction so that we have steady
- 11:15habits.
- 11:17Number 17, guys, standards reduce distraction.
- 11:20Attention is your most powerful tool.
- 11:24Number 18, self-mastery creates peace.
- 11:28Control over yourself translates to calmness and action
- 11:32of the calmness.
- 11:35This isn't about something you do one time,
- 11:37guys.
- 11:37It's something you do over and over and
- 11:39over again every single day.
- 11:44That's important to definitely understand.
- 11:48Number 19, boundaries preserve focus, and they protect
- 11:54what truly matters to us and those we
- 11:56care so much about.
- 12:00Number 20, guys, discipline builds identity.
- 12:04Who you are is reinforced by your consistent
- 12:06actions, not the actions you take on one
- 12:11day, the actions that you take every single
- 12:14day of your life.
- 12:15And let's face it, actions sometimes scare us
- 12:19because we don't necessarily know what's going to
- 12:21happen.
- 12:23I think the biggest fear people have is
- 12:25that when they have an action and they
- 12:26elicit it, they're like, oh my gosh, is
- 12:28it going to be comfortable or is it
- 12:30going to be uncomfortable?
- 12:31And how am I going to respond?
- 12:34It's like they're trying to figure out what
- 12:38it's going to be like before they've even
- 12:40done it.
- 12:41And it just creates this big hype, right?
- 12:44Number 20, guys, discipline builds identity.
- 12:47Who you are is reinforced by your consistent
- 12:50actions.
- 12:51As I said, it's not by what you
- 12:53do one time, it's what you do consistency
- 12:56and consistently in your life.
- 13:01Alignment and freedom is our next peg post.
- 13:04And we're on to number 21, standards create
- 13:08alignment.
- 13:09Your values and actions start to match naturally.
- 13:12You don't need to force them, just like
- 13:14when two people become great friends, you know
- 13:16what happens?
- 13:17Well, they get to bond with each other
- 13:20because they're in tandem, they're in movement, right?
- 13:25And they bond and they start to mirror
- 13:28each other, not because they want to, it
- 13:31just sort of happens.
- 13:33And I think that's a really important thing.
- 13:35Again, standards create alignment.
- 13:38Your values and your actions start to match
- 13:40it naturally.
- 13:41And so you don't need to try to
- 13:43mirror somebody.
- 13:44When you're truly in alignment with them, you
- 13:46will mirror that.
- 13:48Number 22, guys, inner limits create freedom.
- 13:54Saying no empowers saying yes to what matters.
- 13:59Saying no empowers saying yes to what matters.
- 14:02And that could be giving yourself choices, it
- 14:07could be giving yourself freedom, okay?
- 14:11Number 23, self-discipline grows confidence.
- 14:16Repeat action builds self-trust.
- 14:19Notice I said repeat action, I did not
- 14:21say one-time action, I said repeated action,
- 14:25okay?
- 14:27That's important to understand, very important to understand.
- 14:37And you might be wondering why, but that's
- 14:40the key.
- 14:47And I know a lot of you are
- 14:48probably saying, well, this is kind of crazy,
- 14:51but it's not.
- 14:53When we think about where we are, when
- 14:56we think about what we're doing, we can
- 14:57think about the key.
- 14:59And we can think about the fact that
- 15:01we're intentional beings.
- 15:03And if we're intentional, then people will notice
- 15:11us.
- 15:11Now, you might say, why do I want
- 15:13people to notice us?
- 15:15When somebody notices you, okay, they become aware
- 15:23of not so much what you're doing, but
- 15:28the who you are.
- 15:30And the who you are can open doors
- 15:32for you, it can create friendships and more,
- 15:38but it could come from a sense that's
- 15:40inside the person.
- 15:44Number 23, self-discipline grows confidence, as I
- 15:48said.
- 15:49But the thing about self-confidence is that
- 15:51it comes from the inner core of our
- 15:54being.
- 15:57It doesn't come from some sign we see,
- 15:59it doesn't come from a friend of ours,
- 16:01it comes from our true core in our
- 16:04being.
- 16:06That's a key, comes from that core inside
- 16:12us.
- 16:13And that core allows us to see how
- 16:23it makes a difference and that will resonate
- 16:25with us.
- 16:26When something resonates with us, it's like we
- 16:30get fuel to go forward.
- 16:33Number 24, guys, standards.
- 16:37Standards prevent impulse damage.
- 16:41Rules protect your long-term goals.
- 16:44Yep, rules protect your goals.
- 16:47Now, I'm not saying to stay in a
- 16:49bubble, but I am saying to have some
- 16:51structure, okay?
- 17:02And I will tell you that it is
- 17:04so important that you recognize these little nuances.
- 17:13And the nuances that you notice will give
- 17:16you something called awareness.
- 17:19And just being subtly aware of something can
- 17:24dramatically affect our perspective.
- 17:27And thus, the choices, decisions, and actions that
- 17:32we elicit in the world.
- 17:34Number 25, discipline stabilizes emotions.
- 17:40Consistent habits reduce reactive behavior.
- 17:46So when we're consistent, we reduce the reactive
- 17:51and we become more proactive, all right?
- 18:00Being proactive is important.
- 18:04And understanding being proactive is something that a
- 18:08lot of people want to do.
- 18:14But whatever reason, they make all kinds of
- 18:16excuses as to why they're not proactive.
- 18:18They become reactive and say, well, you know
- 18:20what?
- 18:20I'll do it next time.
- 18:22Next time, I'll be proactive.
- 18:25But let me just be reactive this one
- 18:27time.
- 18:28And you know what happens?
- 18:30They never, ever become proactive.
- 18:31They just keep being reactive and it just
- 18:33keeps reinforcing.
- 18:34And they keep being reactive, reactive, reactive, reactive,
- 18:36and they never change.
- 18:38And then they wonder why they're tired.
- 18:41They wonder why they're not getting to the
- 18:44milestones they want.
- 18:46Oh, you don't have to wonder anymore.
- 18:48Start being proactive and you'll get there.
- 18:50Number 26, guys, structure supports growth.
- 18:55Systems enable progress consistently.
- 18:59Sometimes we can't get where we want to
- 19:01go.
- 19:01But when we build a system, we can
- 19:03get there.
- 19:04Systems have a way of making things happen,
- 19:07okay?
- 19:12They have a way of making things happen.
- 19:16And so when we think about how that
- 19:20can help us, okay, we can see that
- 19:24there's a potential.
- 19:31And that potential, again, can change your perspective.
- 19:44Perspectives are like putting a pair of glasses
- 19:50on or looking through a different window.
- 19:53You don't need to have any instructions on
- 19:56how to do it.
- 19:56It's just there.
- 19:59If I give you a red window, everything
- 20:00through the window is red.
- 20:03If I give you a green window, everything
- 20:05through the window is green.
- 20:06Yellow, et cetera.
- 20:07You get my point.
- 20:09If I give you a clear window, everything
- 20:10through the window is as clear as your
- 20:11eyes can see clear.
- 20:16So if something is that easy, why is
- 20:18it people don't do it?
- 20:22I'll tell you why.
- 20:25They see it and then they're like, oh,
- 20:27wait a minute.
- 20:27I don't want to be part of that.
- 20:29I don't want to be part of that.
- 20:32That's a problem, guys.
- 20:39So number 27, inner order improves execution clarity.
- 20:42Inside leads to effective output.
- 20:45Just like computers and technology, we put in
- 20:48good input, we get out good output.
- 20:52We give bad input, well, we're probably going
- 20:55to get bad output.
- 20:57It's nobody's fault.
- 20:59It's the input that's in is bad.
- 21:00Is it a person?
- 21:01Is it data?
- 21:02What is it?
- 21:08Number 28, guys.
- 21:11Discipline reduces overthinking habits, and it prevents mental
- 21:18exhaustion.
- 21:19Discipline.
- 21:23Discipline is making sure you get done what
- 21:25you need to do.
- 21:26Discipline is making sure that you do what
- 21:30you have to do and then play.
- 21:36Okay?
- 21:37Then play.
- 21:39Are you responsible to yourself or no?
- 21:45I don't know.
- 21:47I'm asking you a question.
- 21:51Are you responsible?
- 21:54Are you accountable?
- 21:58Are you?
- 22:04Do you know what the value of something
- 22:07is?
- 22:09Or do you figure out the value after
- 22:12you've done it?
- 22:15We should know our value before we start.
- 22:19We should know what we want to invest
- 22:20in before we put time, money, or effort
- 22:22into it.
- 22:25We should spend a little bit of time
- 22:27researching, but we also should not spend 100
- 22:31% of time doing that.
- 22:35Number 29, guys.
- 22:37Standards simplify life.
- 22:39Fewer choices, clearer paths forward.
- 22:44Self-control creates power.
- 22:47Control yourself.
- 22:49Control your outcomes.
- 22:51I think that's a very important thing for
- 22:55a lot of us to maybe realize or
- 22:58maybe understand.
- 23:01That an outcome that we get today may
- 23:04change tomorrow.
- 23:07It may change tomorrow.
- 23:09Do you know why?
- 23:11Because our belief changes.
- 23:19Because our belief changes.
- 23:24That's something I think a lot of people…
- 23:27I don't think people get that.
- 23:30That change is constant.
- 23:37Change is constant.
- 23:42And if change is constant, then that means
- 23:46we've always got to be moving toward a
- 23:49different way.
- 23:51We might be on the same path to
- 23:53the goal, but we might need to take
- 23:55a different route sometimes.
- 23:57Maybe a road's blocked.
- 23:59Maybe there's an accident.
- 24:00You get my point.
- 24:02We've got to be vigilant in a way
- 24:05that's playful to allow us to get to
- 24:07our destination.
- 24:09To be aware of the pitfalls.
- 24:13To have a plan B.
- 24:14To have a plan C.
- 24:15But do it in a playful way, not
- 24:17a way that's going to drain our energy.
- 24:22Today, we've talked about a lot when it
- 24:24comes to inner standards.
- 24:26There's so many different standards in our life.
- 24:29We have standards for academic excellence.
- 24:33We have standards for so many things.
- 24:39We have standards for hotels, for restaurants.
- 24:46We have standards for health.
- 24:52We have standards for everything.
- 25:01And although these standards are present, what I
- 25:04want you to understand is that they shouldn't
- 25:07trip you up.
- 25:07They should get you to have fun.
- 25:11They should get you to creatively play to
- 25:14achieve these standards and more.
- 25:18The key takeaway is very simple today, guys.
- 25:22Your life is built by choice, not by
- 25:29accident, not by some chance.
- 25:37And every decision that you choose to make
- 25:41matters.
- 25:43Everyone.
- 25:45By choosing to create inner standards, you're protecting
- 25:51your energy.
- 25:54Our energy, guys, is one of the most
- 25:56expensive things we have that we need to
- 25:59protect, our energy.
- 26:02And if we'll do this and act with
- 26:06self-discipline, you will gain clarity.
- 26:11You'll get calmer.
- 26:13You'll be intentional, and you'll have the momentum
- 26:16to move forward in a way you didn't
- 26:17even think was possible.
- 26:20Living with these rules, guys, these guidelines, these
- 26:25strong suggestions, will transform your life from somebody
- 26:31who is reactive on hyper autopilot to a
- 26:36person that executes with deliberate, empowered action.
- 26:45Now, you're not going to become somebody who
- 26:48is a deliberate action taker overnight.
- 26:52If you're stuck in the backseat with being
- 26:56one that's on autopilot, it's going to be
- 26:59a hard time to get your autopilot to
- 27:02turn off.
- 27:02I'm just going to let you know that.
- 27:04But you can with practice.
- 27:05Remember, guys, small, consistent choices will always compound
- 27:11over time.
- 27:14Let me say that again.
- 27:16Small, consistent choices compound over time.
- 27:20Integrity and discipline build self-trust, peace, and
- 27:25resilience.
- 27:26Your focus, energy, and attention are precious.
- 27:29Guard them with purpose and align them with
- 27:31what truly matters.
