Wisconsin’s first Black-owned commercial complex, Central City Plaza, is getting a major national preservation boost after narrowly avoiding demolition. Built in 1973 by Alonzo Robinson, Milwaukee’s first Black architect, and developed by Felmers Chaney, the plaza is now one of five sites nationwide receiving funding through the Conserving Black Modernism initiative.
