- 3:02Speaker 4: make a reservation. Let's see what we got here. Stephen
- 3:09Speaker 4: in Nashville says, how can you not mention Jerome the
- 3:13Speaker 4: bus Bettis? It was a miss for me. I mean
- 3:18Speaker 4: I called Walter Peyton juice. He's sweetness, OJ was jews.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Somebody's really mad at me on the text line over that. Sorry,
- 3:27Speaker 4: you were only thinking about nine hundred miles per hour.
- 3:30Speaker 3: But I do apologize.
- 3:31Speaker 4: I loved Walter Payton as a kid and always tried
- 3:34Speaker 4: to find him in the off season.
- 3:35Speaker 3: It Veterans Memorial.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Stadium because yeah, yeah, had plenty of He had plenty
- 3:40Speaker 4: of jews and he was electric in all caps. But
- 3:44Speaker 4: I would always try to We would all we try
- 3:47Speaker 4: to find him. We would ride our bikes over to
- 3:49Speaker 4: Memorial Stadium and try to find sweetness in the off season.
- 3:53Speaker 4: I don't think anybody ran more of the stays in
- 3:57Speaker 4: Memorial Stadium than Walter Payton. What do we have here, Oh,
- 4:04Speaker 4: Jim Brown. Jim Brown ran angry. There's no doubt show
- 4:09Speaker 4: did Adrian Peterson. In fact, to me, he was the
- 4:12Speaker 4: modern day Jim Brown with the way he was a
- 4:16Speaker 4: violent runner, just like Jim Brown was a violent runner.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I think that's a good one from Alan g on
- 4:23Speaker 4: the Dancing Rabbit golf text line.
- 4:26Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 4:28Speaker 4: And and look the Steve Smith's coming in. That dude
- 4:31Speaker 4: was was a boxer out there.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I mean he.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Very few wide receivers lock in to block and make
- 4:43Speaker 4: it happen what he did, and he did.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Julio Jones did too. He learned that from Nick Saban me.
- 4:49Speaker 4: He could have called, you know, another one hundred and
- 4:51Speaker 4: fifty balls somewhere else over the minimum over the course
- 4:55Speaker 4: of his career and majority of the snaps he fired
- 4:59Speaker 4: off the ball and somebody in college Julio would probably
- 5:02Speaker 4: be really high up on this list. Had he ever
- 5:04Speaker 4: spoken a word in public, Ain't never said anything, never
- 5:07Speaker 4: said anything. If he was, I ran into him and
- 5:09Speaker 4: who was It was Drake Hillpatrick? No, it was the
- 5:14Speaker 4: two kids. We were at the I've talked about this.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I was at SEC media days right when Saban got there.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Will you look up what Bear Bryn's favorite restaurant was.
- 5:29Speaker 4: It was outside of Tuscaloosa, and so this group felt
- 5:32Speaker 4: like they had to take me to it. One night
- 5:35Speaker 4: and we were there. That was back when you went
- 5:37Speaker 4: to SEC media days. All God helped me. I thought
- 5:41Speaker 4: it was called something else. I thought it was some star,
- 5:44Speaker 4: but the Bright Star Invessemer, that's it, okay. So we
- 5:48Speaker 4: went to the Bright Star and they were there. They
- 5:51Speaker 4: were both top recruits in Saban's first or second class,
- 5:56Speaker 4: and it was Julio and a dB so I can't remember.
- 6:02Speaker 3: What his name was.
- 6:03Speaker 4: From the mobile kind of Bay Area. Maybe both of them,
- 6:09Speaker 4: but I remember we walked in the lobby on whatever night.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I mean, God, we were there four nights. That was
- 6:14Speaker 3: in major.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Apple White lived right beside my buddy where we were.
- 6:18Speaker 4: He had a condo and apple White had one. And
- 6:21Speaker 4: it was apple White's first year to be the offensive
- 6:24Speaker 4: coordinator for Nick Saban. And I told this story a
- 6:27Speaker 4: million times. We were sitting outside one night drinking a
- 6:30Speaker 4: cold beer and it was like, I don't know, nine
- 6:34Speaker 4: o'clock at night, and he comes up and we start
- 6:37Speaker 4: talking to him, and he's like somebody who's seen a ghost.
- 6:40Speaker 3: And he's like, you don't understand. This guy's a maniac.
- 6:44Speaker 4: And he was referencing Nick Saban and he had already
- 6:48Speaker 4: worked for Mac Brown which I think was much more
- 6:50Speaker 4: of a country club schedule. And well, that's always had
- 6:56Speaker 4: an impact on me watching Major apple White's face because
- 7:02Speaker 4: he looked like he was seventeen years old. We knew
- 7:04Speaker 4: who he was, and the guy that had the condo,
- 7:08Speaker 4: Scott knew him, but that that really resonated with me.
- 7:15Speaker 4: And he was like, no, no, you don't understand this guy is.
- 7:19Speaker 4: And it was like July. They hadn't even started camp
- 7:24Speaker 4: and they were he was coming home at nine or
- 7:26Speaker 4: ten at night. This is pre this is SEC media Day,
- 7:30Speaker 4: so it's pre camp and apple White lasted one year
- 7:34Speaker 4: on year, I think I don't think it was two, yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 4: because I think the next one was was actually Jim mcawain,
- 7:42Speaker 4: but there may have been one in between Major apple
- 7:47Speaker 4: White and mcalwayne. But I think mcawayne may have been
- 7:50Speaker 4: the next o C Jay Meadows. But apple White looked
- 7:55Speaker 4: like he had seen a ghost and he'd only been there.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I mean that he was about on his seventh month
- 8:00Speaker 4: when SEC Media Days rolled around. Holy Mary, what was
- 8:03Speaker 4: the name of that restaurant again in Bessemer? Bright Star,
- 8:07Speaker 4: right Star. Yeah, So they had a way around back
- 8:11Speaker 4: for Bear Bryant to come in and he sat in
- 8:13Speaker 4: the back. It's kind of a maze restaurant where you
- 8:17Speaker 4: got to kind of work yourself, yea. And they had
- 8:20Speaker 4: him all the way in a booth in the back
- 8:23Speaker 4: where he could somewhat be left alone.
- 8:25Speaker 3: In the seventies.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I mean, he could have gone a lot in the sixties,
- 8:29Speaker 4: but definitely seventies, you know, because he stepped down by
- 8:31Speaker 4: eighty two and passed away thirty days later, roughly. But
- 8:35Speaker 4: the owner was still alive and kicking at this time.
- 8:40Speaker 4: And I think he was heavily evolved in Alabama football,
- 8:42Speaker 4: which is why Julio and what's his name? Did you
- 8:45Speaker 4: get the dB? I think it's Mark barn No. You
- 8:49Speaker 4: may be right, but I don't think so.
- 8:50Speaker 3: That was the big one of that class, was Julio
- 8:55Speaker 3: in that class? Was there another dB that's jumping out
- 8:58Speaker 3: at you in that class that would?
- 9:00Speaker 4: Okay, all right, well, maybe maybe I got that mix up.
- 9:04Speaker 4: I feel like that was a long time ago. That
- 9:06Speaker 4: was what was Savans first year of seven back from
- 9:09Speaker 4: the Dolphins or something.
- 9:10Speaker 3: This is eight. This is the eight recruiting class. Dante
- 9:14Speaker 3: hot Towers in that class. Okay, dang, what a career
- 9:17Speaker 3: with the Patriots. Terrence Cody was in that class.
- 9:20Speaker 4: I remember he blocked the kick against Lane Kiffin's Tennessee balls.
- 9:23Speaker 3: He did mount Cody.
- 9:25Speaker 4: It was a nine to six game and Tuscaloosa Lane
- 9:27Speaker 4: thought he could pull the upset. As the game went
- 9:30Speaker 4: on and on and on, nobody could score. Nobody really
- 9:33Speaker 4: wanted to get it past them. The other's forty that day.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Mark Ingram was in that class. Oh Mark Mark was
- 9:39Speaker 4: a phenomenal college a nice NFL player, a phenomenal college
- 9:43Speaker 4: football player, of course, behind a great offensive line. Mike
- 9:47Speaker 4: Detillier straight out in New Orleans at eight.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Thirty, they break you and then being job and spank
- 10:30Speaker 5: your butt.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Mike Detilier will join us on the Out of Bounds
- 10:35Speaker 4: Show ESPN one oh five nine The Zone at eight thirty.
- 10:39Speaker 4: We want to say good morning, welcome into you. Lunch
- 10:43Speaker 4: today brought to you by the Ribs. That's the blue
- 10:45Speaker 4: plate Martin's and Livingston Ribs. Ribs Ribs. They've been smoking
- 10:49Speaker 4: them since four four thirty this morning. The ribs at
- 10:52Speaker 4: Martin's in Livingston is the blue plate. Or you can
- 10:55Speaker 4: go frieda oyster, poe boy, whatever direction you want to
- 10:58Speaker 4: go there they're here for it, Martin's and Livingston Ribs
- 11:03Speaker 4: is the blue plate today, bo bound straight funk with you,
- 11:06Speaker 4: all right. Zach Arnett's back his defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.
- 11:09Speaker 4: He was interviewed yesterday for the first time since getting
- 11:13Speaker 4: the job again. He was the DC as y'all know
- 11:16Speaker 4: in twenty twenty one and twenty two. This is Arnette
- 11:19Speaker 4: talking about being back in Starbuck to return.
- 11:22Speaker 1: In the city state.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Am I like coaching defense right in? This place has
- 11:28Speaker 6: a long history of really good defense. I was very privileged, fortunate,
- 11:35Speaker 6: honored last time here. Had a lot of really good players.
- 11:37Speaker 6: You know, quite a few of them are playing on Sundays.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So just have a.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Fun place in my heart for this institution. And it's
- 11:47Speaker 6: a great place to coach defense at. And if you
- 11:49Speaker 6: like coaching defense, you jump at that opportunity.
- 11:52Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:53Speaker 4: That was Zach Arnett and you know he did a
- 11:57Speaker 4: good job under Leech. Remember one of his year was
- 12:00Speaker 4: an all conference schedule, which was his best year. Bar
- 12:04Speaker 4: two is with us two weeks ago, and I think
- 12:07Speaker 4: he said Arnett was number forty fifth in the country
- 12:10Speaker 4: in defensive scoring efficiency in year one on a ten
- 12:13Speaker 4: game conference schedule at where they lost, you know, their
- 12:17Speaker 4: starting quarterback and had to play a true freshman and
- 12:20Speaker 4: there was a lot going on, as everybody knows. And
- 12:23Speaker 4: then he was solid to good the next two years.
- 12:26Speaker 4: So again, of course he's a massive upgrade. Those were
- 12:30Speaker 4: the worst two defenses in the history of the school
- 12:33Speaker 4: the last two years. So Zach Barnett is back. The
- 12:36Speaker 4: question is what does he have upfront? What does he
- 12:40Speaker 4: have upfront? And can if anybody can do it. Arnett's
- 12:44Speaker 4: a guy that's capable, But can he find some edge rushers,
- 12:48Speaker 4: some guys to apply pressure in the pocket. You haven't sniffed.
- 12:52Speaker 4: You have not sniffed disrupting the pocket the last two years,
- 12:56Speaker 4: which I don't know a lot about football, but I
- 12:58Speaker 4: think it's pretty good when you have play that can
- 13:00Speaker 4: make the quarterback uncomfortable and even if you don't get
- 13:03Speaker 4: to him, he gets out of his rhythm or he
- 13:07Speaker 4: doesn't go through his progressions.
- 13:09Speaker 3: And so many of them, especially at the.
- 13:11Speaker 4: College level, don't have the ability of pocket awareness.
- 13:15Speaker 7: Right.
- 13:15Speaker 4: We've heard Brady and Manning talk about it all the time.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Where they stay in the pocket, they just create space
- 13:20Speaker 4: in the pocket. Sounds easy, doesn't until somebody who's two
- 13:23Speaker 4: hundred and fifty pounds coming off the edge is trying
- 13:26Speaker 4: to take you out. So the question with Arnett is
- 13:29Speaker 4: can they apply pressure to the quarterback this year? I mean, yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 4: you got to stop the run too, no question, but
- 13:36Speaker 4: can they apply pressure to the quarterback? You aren't even
- 13:39Speaker 4: lined up right the last two years. I mean, there
- 13:43Speaker 4: were sec analysts that would slow mow your defense and
- 13:48Speaker 4: you weren't a lot. I mean, I can you know,
- 13:51Speaker 4: what was it the Florida game two years ago? You
- 13:53Speaker 4: didn't have anybody on the right side, well, the right
- 13:56Speaker 4: side of the Florida offensive line, the left side of
- 13:59Speaker 4: your defensive line, you had nobody there.
- 14:01Speaker 3: That's a new thing for me.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Okay, I did play a little defense, but I always
- 14:06Speaker 4: thought that you needed players everywhere. You know.
- 14:09Speaker 3: It's not like a shift in baseball, where.
- 14:11Speaker 4: You you with intent you're like, hey, I need aybody
- 14:15Speaker 4: to go over here to the right side. Zach Arnett
- 14:18Speaker 4: is back in starbull had you had our net level
- 14:21Speaker 4: defensive coordinator, and I'm not claiming that he's you know,
- 14:24Speaker 4: some of these other guys in the league, but he's
- 14:27Speaker 4: pretty damn good. If you would have had our net
- 14:29Speaker 4: level defense last two years, Jeff Levy wouldn't be close
- 14:32Speaker 4: to the hot seat. He'd be he'd gone thirteen and twelve,
- 14:37Speaker 4: you know, maybe even one more game, maybe fourteen and eleven,
- 14:41Speaker 4: and people would be okay, he would have won some
- 14:44Speaker 4: conference games other than you know, at Arkansas, and I'm
- 14:50Speaker 4: telling you, people would be, you know, pretty pretty excited
- 14:54Speaker 4: and locked in. So what, But I don't know how
- 14:57Speaker 4: to tell you. I'm sure there are people who think
- 15:00Speaker 4: they do, but with the portal, it's hard. It's really
- 15:03Speaker 4: hard to quantify, like what kind of talent you have
- 15:06Speaker 4: on the defensive side of the football. I mean, you've
- 15:09Speaker 4: got some pieces with Kelly Jones and Isaac Smith. They're
- 15:11Speaker 4: talking about the Florida State edge rusher, and that's fine.
- 15:14Speaker 4: He was with Arnett last year, and Arnett was an analyst.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Arnett was an analyst under Pete Golding. I would have
- 15:20Speaker 4: to believe that he learned a lot from Pete. And
- 15:23Speaker 4: if anybody can take what they do have, which may
- 15:26Speaker 4: be some more than solid talent, by the way, because
- 15:29Speaker 4: everybody's watered down. I mean, we saw the league last
- 15:32Speaker 4: year totally splintered, fractured and watered down, you know, they
- 15:36Speaker 4: should be. They've spent a running ton of money. They
- 15:38Speaker 4: should have been able to find some dudes that can
- 15:40Speaker 4: run and hit. It's that simple. But what do you
- 15:44Speaker 4: have up front? And what do you have coming off
- 15:47Speaker 4: the edge. You're gonna You're not gonna You're not gonna
- 15:50Speaker 4: look like a Coleman Hutzler defense.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Will they'll be.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Will there be some tough saturdays, sure, but you're not.
- 15:58Speaker 4: You're not gonna look like a Coleman Hudtler defense. And
- 16:02Speaker 4: Arnette's gonna know, he already knows he's He's called a
- 16:06Speaker 4: bunch of games as DC in twenty twenty one and
- 16:08Speaker 4: twenty two, and.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Look they want to.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I mean he and leached their last year, won nine
- 16:14Speaker 4: games together and and beat five Power four teams, so
- 16:21Speaker 4: uh or six?
- 16:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's pretty impressive. You know.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I guess if you count the bowl game against Brent
- 16:31Speaker 4: Belama in Illinois, do you want to drop the Kevin
- 16:35Speaker 4: Johns All Right, So Arnett is back as defensive coordinator,
- 16:38Speaker 4: which is kind of weird but also exciting.
- 16:40Speaker 3: He's been the DC for three years.
- 16:42Speaker 4: The interim coach never really had a chance to be
- 16:44Speaker 4: successful on that that was to dip your toe in
- 16:47Speaker 4: the pull type deal that doesn't work in this league.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Kind of like a Coleman hudsler hustler higher doesn't work
- 16:52Speaker 4: in this league. This is Kevin Johns. He's got a
- 16:57Speaker 4: pretty good resume and uh he's I guess the QB
- 17:01Speaker 4: coach along with Levy. And this is Kevin Johns, Mississippi
- 17:04Speaker 4: State offensive assistant talking about Kamaro Taylor.
- 17:07Speaker 1: The number one quarterback.
- 17:08Speaker 8: Now, is he a guy who can shut out the noise?
- 17:11Speaker 8: Because that is the guy who, being at media day
- 17:14Speaker 8: is talking to other people. I don't remember this much
- 17:16Speaker 8: amount of hype for quarterback because they're only going to
- 17:18Speaker 8: be making his.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Third start ever week one.
- 17:20Speaker 8: You know, I guess that's to be seen if he
- 17:23Speaker 8: can block out the noise. But if anyone can do
- 17:25Speaker 8: a Camrio can. I think he's an extremely mature young
- 17:28Speaker 8: man and I've been blown away since I had the
- 17:30Speaker 8: opportunity to start working with him just in all areas,
- 17:34Speaker 8: very very special guy. But I'm certainly yes, I know
- 17:37Speaker 8: he'll block it out and stay focused on what he
- 17:39Speaker 8: needs to do.
- 17:41Speaker 3: All right.
- 17:41Speaker 4: That was Kevin Johns offensive assistant who's working with KT
- 17:45Speaker 4: Kamario Taylor boy, does he need to have a big
- 17:48Speaker 4: year for you?
- 17:49Speaker 3: And what will that look like?
- 17:51Speaker 4: I know that you're you're looking for a lot of
- 17:55Speaker 4: fans are glass half full?
- 17:57Speaker 3: You got to be to stay sane. Now.
- 18:02Speaker 4: I don't know how many of your glass half full
- 18:04Speaker 4: right now in the Mississippi State football fan base, but
- 18:07Speaker 4: I do know that everybody is excited about Kamorio Taylor.
- 18:11Speaker 4: What we keep going over is what is the passing
- 18:14Speaker 4: game going to look like for him? Like Todate, what's
- 18:17Speaker 4: he comfortable with as he starts practice and knowing that
- 18:21Speaker 4: he's got about twenty eight practices before they get ready
- 18:23Speaker 4: for Lob and Row, But more importantly at Minnesota in
- 18:26Speaker 4: Game two, which could be a great opportunity for Levy.
- 18:30Speaker 4: You know, it's kind of a fifty to fifty game
- 18:32Speaker 4: for you. You have more talent, they have a better
- 18:36Speaker 4: head coach who's been around a decade or so. And
- 18:41Speaker 4: how comfortable will Kamario Taylor be on the short and
- 18:49Speaker 4: intermediate passing game when there's traffic and there's a lot
- 18:54Speaker 4: going on all right, and you got to make the read,
- 18:58Speaker 4: but you also have to have the touch and it's
- 19:01Speaker 4: real busy and jammed up. How comfortable will he be
- 19:08Speaker 4: and how much will he kind of go through one
- 19:10Speaker 4: progression and you say I'm bringing the ball down and
- 19:13Speaker 4: I'm going and that may work too. Kind of like
- 19:17Speaker 4: Lenoris from two years ago, you know, because he got
- 19:22Speaker 4: really really bank well. He's been banged up the last
- 19:24Speaker 4: two years, but he stayed a little more healthy two
- 19:26Speaker 4: years ago.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Is that fair? I think so. We are the out

- 20:53Speaker 4: We talked extensively last week with Mike on Drew Brees
- 20:57Speaker 4: going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That will
- 20:59Speaker 4: be this weekend weekend, and it'll be awesome and there
- 21:04Speaker 4: will be plenty of Saints fans with water in their
- 21:06Speaker 4: eyes as Sean Payton will be the presenter and Drew
- 21:10Speaker 4: Brees is going in as first ballot Hall of Famer
- 21:13Speaker 4: as QB one for the New Orleans Saints and the
- 21:15Speaker 4: greatest player to ever play in the organization. But I'm
- 21:18Speaker 4: gonna start off with a little bit different angle here today, Mike,
- 21:23Speaker 4: who has a better chance of going to the playoffs
- 21:26Speaker 4: LSU or the New Orleans Saints with the week NFC South.
- 21:33Speaker 8: Uh?
- 21:34Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a good question. I would lean toward LSU
- 21:39Speaker 7: me too, only because I mean, you know, the talent
- 21:42Speaker 7: of accumulated would certainly give them an opportunity. You have
- 21:49Speaker 7: approven quarterback and Sam Levitt. You've redone your offensive line.
- 21:56Speaker 7: We'll see how quickly all that comes together up front
- 22:00Speaker 7: it defensively, You've got some pieces in place there, especially
- 22:05Speaker 7: in the secondary, where I think that they can make
- 22:11Speaker 7: it work. But it's a rough early schedule when you
- 22:15Speaker 7: talk about starting off against Clemson and then having Ole
- 22:21Speaker 7: Miss and Texas A and M back to back weeks
- 22:24Speaker 7: the end September. So I would lean toward LSU. I
- 22:30Speaker 7: just think the Saints are one year away, and we
- 22:36Speaker 7: see it in the practices which you know started last Wednesday,
- 22:40Speaker 7: and that, you know, the defenses that sort of had
- 22:43Speaker 7: the upper hand across the board. And that's not a
- 22:48Speaker 7: surprise to me because you know, basically eight of the
- 22:54Speaker 7: eleven starters from a year ago on defense are back
- 22:58Speaker 7: and some of the key role players are back on offense. Hand,
- 23:04Speaker 7: you know, you got new receivers, new tight ends, David Edwards,
- 23:10Speaker 7: Travis ah Chan, and still a young quarterback in this league.
- 23:14Speaker 7: So I think it's it's a dead heat to see
- 23:18Speaker 7: who can hit the tape first, uh in the NFC South.
- 23:22Speaker 7: But I would certainly lean toward l s U.
- 23:25Speaker 4: Mike de Tillier, LSU Saints and Shadder on the Farm
- 23:29Speaker 4: Bureau Insurance guest line, Mike, could you make a I
- 23:35Speaker 4: think you can make a strong argument that LSU has
- 23:37Speaker 4: the best tight end duo in the country.
- 23:42Speaker 7: They have the best tight end and Trede s Green.
- 23:45Speaker 7: I know that, uh huh. I don't know about duel,
- 23:49Speaker 7: but they got one who's who's a cut above. And
- 23:54Speaker 7: we have heard Lane Kiffin talk about this in some
- 23:58Speaker 7: of his pressers on Tuesday, that he would give about
- 24:03Speaker 7: you know, his unique talent and that he's gonna use
- 24:08Speaker 7: him different ways. I don't think you're going to see
- 24:12Speaker 7: him use like a traditional in line tight end. They're
- 24:18Speaker 7: gonna flank him out. And I think he wants to
- 24:23Speaker 7: cause some issues of downfield from a coverage standpoint. Freda
- 24:30Speaker 7: has a six foot seven and a little change. There's
- 24:35Speaker 7: nobody that's going to match up with him likewise, I
- 24:38Speaker 7: know that. And athletically, you know, he's a cut above.
- 24:42Speaker 7: Is a guy that literally could have played college basketball
- 24:46Speaker 7: if that was what he really tried to pursue. But man,
- 24:52Speaker 7: he has some talented and last year and remember and
- 24:57Speaker 7: we've got it on tape. You know, we had Brian
- 25:00Speaker 7: Kelly on and I asked him about feeding the football,
- 25:04Speaker 7: you know, more to Trade as Green his dealer is.
- 25:07Speaker 7: You know, you know, we think Trade is a great talent,
- 25:10Speaker 7: all this and that, but you know, we want to
- 25:12Speaker 7: distribute it to everybody. Keep everybody healthy, Okay happy. My
- 25:16Speaker 7: thing is, man, the hell with that. I want to win.
- 25:22Speaker 7: And he and he's my biggest weapon and feed it
- 25:26Speaker 7: to him. And you know he talked about Barry and Brown,
- 25:29Speaker 7: but you know, they didn't feed the football of him
- 25:32Speaker 7: at all after they brought him in from Kentucky. So
- 25:36Speaker 7: I don't know what was in his head about what
- 25:39Speaker 7: offensively he wanted to do last year, but you can
- 25:43Speaker 7: bank it trade as is healthy. He gonna see a
- 25:47Speaker 7: lot of footballs going his way. Man, if I was kipping, okay,
- 25:55Speaker 7: we ain't reinventing the wheel here. Six foot seven plus
- 26:00Speaker 7: tight end flanked out, you're gonna get a lot of
- 26:03Speaker 7: football thrown your way.
- 26:05Speaker 2: A lot.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Man.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Can you imagine in the college game, six foot seven
- 26:10Speaker 4: in the red zone? I mean, Mike, that's that's tough
- 26:16Speaker 4: to defend and stop. I mean, it's tough in the NFL,
- 26:18Speaker 4: But they can do it in the college game. I'm
- 26:21Speaker 4: not sure that you can.
- 26:24Speaker 7: Well, especially the way Kiffin's gonna you know, because he
- 26:29Speaker 7: tries to have you guard every inch of grass out
- 26:33Speaker 7: on that field, and he's going to create some things.
- 26:38Speaker 7: That is going to give trede As a better opportunity
- 26:43Speaker 7: to make more plays downfield, not only red zone and
- 26:48Speaker 7: short yardage, but also over the middle. Which you know,
- 26:52Speaker 7: my thing is in when you watch film today of
- 26:57Speaker 7: college football, the biggest openings, you have a right smack
- 27:02Speaker 7: dab right down the middle because everybody's trying to cover
- 27:07Speaker 7: the edges, they're trying to cover the chalk, you know,
- 27:10Speaker 7: and so you got some big holes in the middle
- 27:13Speaker 7: of the field. And that's I think part of you know,
- 27:18Speaker 7: Lane's madness and how he coaches and how he tries
- 27:22Speaker 7: to get these mismatches downfield with players and in situational football.
- 27:30Speaker 7: So yeah, I think trade As is going to have
- 27:34Speaker 7: a super year. He was one of three guys that
- 27:38Speaker 7: he would constantly talk about. Well, one thing with coach Giffen,
- 27:42Speaker 7: he's not one to throw a lot of bouquets out
- 27:46Speaker 7: to players, but trade As was one of three he
- 27:51Speaker 7: would consistently talk about how good they were.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Mike Ntilier WWL Radio New Orleans on the Out of
- 28:00Speaker 4: Bound show ESPN one five nine to the Zone your
- 28:04Speaker 4: next video wall for your business or church Powered by
- 28:06Speaker 4: Sound and Communications. All right, Mike, what is the what's
- 28:11Speaker 4: the best most talented unit on this twenty twenty six
- 28:16Speaker 4: LSU football team as they get ready to host game
- 28:19Speaker 4: day in Clemson.
- 28:21Speaker 7: I think it's head linebacker with a healthy with Weeks
- 28:26Speaker 7: and TJ. Dobbery at linebacker and you know you got
- 28:32Speaker 7: Woodweeks's brother backing it up. I think that's that to
- 28:37Speaker 7: me is a very good unit at the linebacker position.
- 28:42Speaker 7: We saw last year once Wit went down and he
- 28:48Speaker 7: actually hurt that ankle in a in the game that
- 28:56Speaker 7: they played. He broke it late last year and it
- 29:02Speaker 7: was in one of the bowl games. It was in
- 29:04Speaker 7: the bowl game that LSU played and he went down
- 29:09Speaker 7: and they were limiting him in practice, and I get
- 29:14Speaker 7: what Kelly was doing. He was trying to save him
- 29:16Speaker 7: for games, but he didn't quite look the same. But
- 29:20Speaker 7: even if he was seventy five percent, he was so good,
- 29:25Speaker 7: you know, he was better than anything else they had.
- 29:28Speaker 7: And he's healthy now ready to roll. We saw Dotttery
- 29:33Speaker 7: and what he did at Old Miss the last couple
- 29:35Speaker 7: of years, where you know he was a good football
- 29:38Speaker 7: player for him. So I think the linebacker position is
- 29:43Speaker 7: probably the strongest spot for them. The crazy thing I
- 29:50Speaker 7: think on offense maybe at halfback because of Harlem Burry returning,
- 29:56Speaker 7: Cayden Durham returning, and young Man that if I would
- 30:02Speaker 7: to tell you this when they signed him. Most people
- 30:04Speaker 7: wouldn't have believed it, but you know it was thinking.
- 30:07Speaker 7: A lot of the reps late in the spring was
- 30:11Speaker 7: Dylan Jones at running back, who they got from Wisconsin.
- 30:15Speaker 7: He's built totally different than Harlem or Cayden. He's a
- 30:20Speaker 7: big thunder back. And you know, I do know one
- 30:24Speaker 7: thing Kivin liked that he likes the guy that can
- 30:27Speaker 7: run hard between the tackles. Harlem tremendous foot speed, quickness,
- 30:33Speaker 7: sees the whole gets through it. Cayden Durham has been
- 30:36Speaker 7: a good player on this team. I'm shocked both of
- 30:39Speaker 7: them return to LSU. I thought they would lose at
- 30:43Speaker 7: least one, but both of them returned. And then Dylan's
- 30:47Speaker 7: really really played well in the spring, got a lot
- 30:50Speaker 7: of accolades, and that's not coming from the press. That's
- 30:54Speaker 7: coming from guys that are on the team and having
- 30:58Speaker 7: an opportunity to talk to him, they were like, man,
- 31:00Speaker 7: we don't know who this Dylan Jones was, but we
- 31:02Speaker 7: sure know now uh and he gives us another dimension.
- 31:07Speaker 7: So the running back corps of those three I think
- 31:11Speaker 7: is uh is a nice strength for this L s
- 31:13Speaker 7: U team. Man, they got a ton of receivers. How
- 31:16Speaker 7: that all shakes out remains to be seen and will
- 31:20Speaker 7: it be kind of down in distance on how it
- 31:24Speaker 7: works out. You know, one thing with l s U,
- 31:26Speaker 7: they produced receivers a ton of them throughout the years,
- 31:31Speaker 7: and I think that eventually may end up being the
- 31:37Speaker 7: strength of this team. But that that's got that still
- 31:43Speaker 7: a little bit of a work in progress because we
- 31:45Speaker 7: haven't really seen him work out with Sam Levitt practice wise.
- 31:53Speaker 7: Now they've done a lot of stuff on their own
- 31:55Speaker 7: and Saam has sort of orchestrated that of working out
- 32:00Speaker 7: out on their own and uh, they you know, they've
- 32:03Speaker 7: even traveled on the road where uh, I think it
- 32:07Speaker 7: was seven or eight receivers along with Levitt that you know,
- 32:11Speaker 7: they went out of state and worked for three days together.
- 32:15Speaker 7: So it's going to be an interesting offense on how
- 32:20Speaker 7: all this comes together and how quickly it comes together.
- 32:23Speaker 7: The key there certainly is Levitt. But so to answer
- 32:27Speaker 7: your question, I think right now would be running back linebacker,
- 32:31Speaker 7: but eventually I think it'll end up being wide receiver.
- 32:34Speaker 4: All right, So Mike Ntilier on the Out of Bounds Show,
- 32:38Speaker 4: LSU host Game Day and Clemson and Dabo and Clemson's
- 32:44Speaker 4: coming off a really rough year where Dabo called out
- 32:47Speaker 4: his fan base and was like fire me and had
- 32:50Speaker 4: to recite his resume throughout the season and all kinds
- 32:54Speaker 4: of It's like crazy pills over in Clemson. So we'll
- 32:56Speaker 4: see what's happening here. Uh, Mike, do you think this
- 32:59Speaker 4: is a uh a pretty pretty big mismatch here as
- 33:03Speaker 4: far as uh L s U and and and Clemson
- 33:08Speaker 4: Labor Day weekend?
- 33:10Speaker 7: No, I don't think it's a mismatch. Clemson's still got
- 33:14Speaker 7: talent on that team. Uh. Last year I thought they
- 33:19Speaker 7: were they were a bit dishoveled. Uh sometimes in crucial
- 33:24Speaker 7: points of games that that there was a little kind
- 33:29Speaker 7: of misdirection and not knowing exactly what to do there.
- 33:36Speaker 7: I can't say that I've seen a lot of that
- 33:39Speaker 7: before at Clemson, but they seemed a little bit disheveled
- 33:44Speaker 7: about how to handle some situations. And you know, you
- 33:49Speaker 7: had a veteran quarterback and you had some pieces of
- 33:52Speaker 7: the puzzle there. They they just didn't seem to be
- 33:57Speaker 7: all on the same page. And a defense that was
- 34:02Speaker 7: really heralded before the season started adn't played very good
- 34:07Speaker 7: at times. And you're talking about you know, they got
- 34:11Speaker 7: two guys up front that you know ended up being
- 34:14Speaker 7: really high. You have choices, you know, in Peter Woods
- 34:17Speaker 7: and TJ. Parker, and what happened there. It really never
- 34:23Speaker 7: came together for them, and losing some of the games
- 34:27Speaker 7: that they did, it was head scratching a little bit
- 34:31Speaker 7: about how did this all fall apart? For Clemson. So
- 34:37Speaker 7: it's certainly a critical year because the fan base. Man,
- 34:43Speaker 7: if there's some unhappy people there, it's in Clemson because
- 34:47Speaker 7: you know, you got them used to winning and winning
- 34:49Speaker 7: big and I'm not just talking about no conference championship.
- 34:52Speaker 7: I'm talking about national championship. And they're not real happy,
- 34:58Speaker 7: and they're not real happy about lashed out at by
- 35:01Speaker 7: the head coach. And remember Brian Kelly started doing the
- 35:06Speaker 7: exact same thing here at LSU lashing out at media,
- 35:12Speaker 7: lashing out at fans, everything else. Man, when that starts
- 35:17Speaker 7: to happen to a coach, I want to be honest
- 35:19Speaker 7: with you. You you can hear the saying falling out
- 35:22Speaker 7: of the hour going no doubt.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Left out Mike Detillier on ESPN one oh five nine
- 35:30Speaker 4: to the Zone. LSU will host Game Day and Clemson
- 35:34Speaker 4: every day weekend. Then they'll basically take a week off
- 35:38Speaker 4: and beat somebody fifty six to zero La Tech, and
- 35:41Speaker 4: then they go to Ole Miss and Old Miss will
- 35:43Speaker 4: host game Day. This could be crazy, the spotlight and
- 35:46Speaker 4: the uh you know, media around Kiffen. You mentioned Kelly
- 35:52Speaker 4: didn't do a good job. I mean he caught out
- 35:55Speaker 4: the fan base kind of challenge. That's not what you do.
- 35:58Speaker 4: I think Kiffen has handled it really well, Mike D
- 36:00Speaker 4: the last seven months or so being in bat Rouge,
- 36:04Speaker 4: and that he knows the expectations are sky high. They
- 36:07Speaker 4: went out landed a really good transfer class and high
- 36:11Speaker 4: school class and love it and so on. But he
- 36:14Speaker 4: understands people think they're going to go twelve and zero
- 36:17Speaker 4: and they're not. But I think he's been able to
- 36:20Speaker 4: handle it well in his media hits.
- 36:22Speaker 3: How do you see it, Mike D.
- 36:24Speaker 7: Yeah, for the most part, he's done pretty well with it.
- 36:27Speaker 7: He's played he is saying to their tune, okay, and
- 36:33Speaker 7: when you're getting paid the amount of money he's getting paid, man,
- 36:36Speaker 7: you learn how to sing it real quick. And so yeah,
- 36:41Speaker 7: I think he's done a good job of playing to
- 36:43Speaker 7: the to the fan base. He knows expectations here and
- 36:49Speaker 7: even he talked about, you know, when he first went
- 36:52Speaker 7: to Ole Miss and there's no comparing what happened when
- 36:57Speaker 7: he first hit Oxford and then him coming to Baton
- 37:01Speaker 7: Rouge Man rebuild what I mean, Uh, I don't want
- 37:06Speaker 7: to hear that. You know, we're paying you all this money.
- 37:10Speaker 7: We want you to do one thing, win and we
- 37:15Speaker 7: no other stuff around it.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Just win.
- 37:19Speaker 7: And so it's it's gonna be a lot of expectations
- 37:23Speaker 7: on him and and how things go. But I think
- 37:27Speaker 7: overall what he's been able to do in getting players
- 37:32Speaker 7: high school wise from the state of Louisiana to buy
- 37:35Speaker 7: in and in the transfer portal that was his wheelhouse.
- 37:42Speaker 7: I think most people thought that's where he would do
- 37:45Speaker 7: very well. And I think, you know, we haven't seen
- 37:48Speaker 7: it on the field yet, but you know, overall from
- 37:52Speaker 7: the players he's been able to bring in, uh that
- 37:56Speaker 7: that's going to be a strong point of his team. Uh.
- 37:59Speaker 7: When you know, again, I brought up trade as the
- 38:02Speaker 7: other two guys he he really talked tremendous amount about.
- 38:06Speaker 7: One was Jordan Seaton, uh, the tackle from Colorado. The
- 38:11Speaker 7: other one was type infield from Boise State. Uh, the safety.
- 38:17Speaker 7: He has spoken glowingly about both of those guys, So
- 38:23Speaker 7: you can you get it that that was gonna be
- 38:26Speaker 7: the strength of that football team. And uh, man, you know,
- 38:32Speaker 7: I just can't wait to see how it all pieces together.
- 38:37Speaker 7: And the one thing with Lane, we all know, if
- 38:41Speaker 7: he gets a chance to pounge you, he's gonna load
- 38:46Speaker 7: the boot up. He's gonna load it and palunge you
- 38:51Speaker 7: as much as he can, uh, to prove a point
- 38:55Speaker 7: that hey, I'm not just here for the for the
- 38:59Speaker 7: ball cross and the barbecue.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Shrip had Mike Detillier w WL Radio.
- 39:08Speaker 4: We got time for one more, Mike d Have you
- 39:11Speaker 4: had Eddie O on in the last week or two
- 39:15Speaker 4: or so?
- 39:17Speaker 7: No, shure, haven't. He's been. He's been busy with stuff.
- 39:21Speaker 7: I think the last time was probably three weeks ago. Okay,
- 39:24Speaker 7: we had him on and he you know, he's all
- 39:27Speaker 7: fired up about coaching again. Man. He you know, I
- 39:31Speaker 7: know from all the conversations we've had since uh he
- 39:36Speaker 7: got fired at LSU. He talked about getting back and
- 39:40Speaker 7: coach again. He had some opportunities a couple of north
- 39:46Speaker 7: and hey, my blood's to fin get up there. No
- 39:50Speaker 7: multi boy, you know, so uh, but yeah, uh, man,
- 39:55Speaker 7: he's all fired up about it doing it in Louisiana,
- 39:59Speaker 7: coming back and working with the defensive line. That's this
- 40:03Speaker 7: wheelhouse is a guy was recruited and coached thirteen NFL
- 40:10Speaker 7: first round picks, and he thinks he's got a couple
- 40:14Speaker 7: more on this football team, younger guys. And I think
- 40:18Speaker 7: that that was a big part of it too, that
- 40:22Speaker 7: him being able to help playing Kip and navigate through
- 40:26Speaker 7: some things here. You know, at LSU, you know, and
- 40:31Speaker 7: Lane's always talked about it's different here, and yet it is.
- 40:34Speaker 7: It is different here, and I think it's been able
- 40:37Speaker 7: to kind of help out in that manner and being
- 40:40Speaker 7: able to he knows every high school coach around.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Man.
- 40:44Speaker 7: We stood on the sidelines for one of the championship games,
- 40:48Speaker 7: and man, he was a magnet for it. I mean,
- 40:53Speaker 7: all the coaches coming around. And I told us to
- 40:57Speaker 7: coach will Haul. At Tulane, they had a junior day
- 41:02Speaker 7: where they brought in a whole bunch of juniors to
- 41:05Speaker 7: tour the campus at Tulane and everything else. And you know,
- 41:09Speaker 7: his son is the tight ends coach at Tulane, Edson
- 41:13Speaker 7: and Tyler, and I never saw one picture of somebody
- 41:19Speaker 7: take a picture with Will Hall that I saw posting online.
- 41:23Speaker 7: But I must have seen about thirty of them with
