Transcript
- 0:01Hello and welcome to Off the Shelf with Phil and Dave, the
- 0:06movie talk show where each week one of us takes the movie off
- 0:08our show, presents it to the other, and discusses it at
- 0:11length. This week we've got coming off
- 0:21of Dave's Shelf 2005 Four Brothers directed by John
- 0:26Singleton, written by David Elliott and Paul Lovett,
- 0:29starring Dave favorite Mark Wahlberg.
- 0:32Not favorites Andre 3000, Garrett Hedlund, Tyrese Gibson,
- 0:37Terrence Howard, Josh Charles. I'm trying to match you from
- 0:40last week, but he star-studded, star-studded indeed got Oscar
- 0:45nominated director and other people.
- 0:49Four brothers. Count them up.
- 0:51Absolutely welcome back to the Couch.
- 0:52Thank you. Much appreciated you joining us
- 0:54once again. Happy to be here.
- 0:56Have to ask of course, how are you doing this week and why this
- 0:59movie? Why now you?
- 1:00Don't have to ask me how I am, I'm going anyway.
- 1:03Don't feel obligated, but I'm doing fine.
- 1:05Wonderful, wonderful. You got 6.
- 1:08Maybe a 7, maybe A7. Not feeling that picky today,
- 1:12I'll tell you that. Oh, that's conveniently.
- 1:14Yeah, it works out pretty well for.
- 1:15You. I've been stockpiling all.
- 1:18This ready to pick? Why this movie?
- 1:22Why now? Similar to your answer last
- 1:25week. Give me a little snow.
- 1:28Sure, that's enough. It takes all it takes.
- 1:31And this has always been, oddly enough, a bit of a favorite of
- 1:34mine. It is odd.
- 1:36It is a little bit. I've had it on DVD since.
- 1:40I don't know. 2006. That's a safe bet, Phillip.
- 1:43DVD years. Yeah, haven't gone around to
- 1:46upgrading it. I don't think it requires that.
- 1:48It still looked good on the big 65 inch.
- 1:52And this is probably since 2006 ish.
- 1:56Fifth time. Wow. 5th and 6th time.
- 1:59So I go back to it every few years.
- 2:00However, this, it's been at least 10 years since I've
- 2:03watched it last. OK.
- 2:05I would go as far as to say I loved it First time I watched
- 2:08it. Wow.
- 2:09OK. Yeah, I don't know something
- 2:11about it. There's definitely something
- 2:12about it. Something about it.
- 2:14So that's my history. It's a good one.
- 2:16Thank you. What's yours?
- 2:18It goes back about a week. I figured as much.
- 2:21Never saw it. I don't know how that's
- 2:23possible. Had no interest.
- 2:25I do remember the trailer and I do remember the box arts.
- 2:28Again, I'm working in the video store at this.
- 2:30Point prime time. Prime time Vancouver Kitsilano.
- 2:34There it is. But you're not recommending this
- 2:35to your custom. It is definitely not.
- 2:37I'm trying to probably bury it in the low FPS if I could.
- 2:40John Singleton is an interesting guy because he came out of the
- 2:44gate. He was 27 or so when Boys in the
- 2:47Hood came out. Oh, he's that young.
- 2:48I didn't. Like swept the world like it was
- 2:51huge, huge hit. Made stars out of everybody in
- 2:54it. Looking back, maybe a little bit
- 2:56melodramatic in the hindsight, but in the moment felt so real
- 3:01and visceral and was like, holy shit, a young black filmmaker
- 3:04telling stories of young black men and their experiences in
- 3:08California, in Compton and so forth.
- 3:10It was like a revelation to a suburban white kid, certainly.
- 3:14And that movie, like, just rocked me because it's just a
- 3:16world I had no idea about. Yeah, Yeah, of course.
- 3:19And subsequently made movies I could not care less about.
- 3:25You know, higher learning wasn't very good.
- 3:27I did watch that one. That's sort of a college campus.
- 3:29A lot of ideas in it, but doesn't really materialize.
- 3:32OK. He did Shaft in 2000 with Sammy
- 3:35Jay, Sammy J for to get things. You heard wrong.
- 3:39I watched that. It's OK.
- 3:41It just doesn't have any of the fun vibe of Shaft.
- 3:43It's sort of takes itself a little more serious than I
- 3:45thought it would or could or should even.
- 3:47So he's just a director with a lot of promise that never
- 3:51really, at least in the first couple of movies, we're really
- 3:54delivered. So he was a guy never went back
- 3:56to. Kind of like Grady, Trip had a
- 3:58had a big hit. Big hit and then.
- 3:59Probably get that next one. Until now.
- 4:01Until now, yeah. Till 2004.
- 4:03That's true, 2005. Sorry.
- 4:04So by the time this movie came out, I was kind of over him and
- 4:07he died in 2019, so a pretty young guy in the end.
- 4:10OK, you did more research than I.
- 4:12Did but never really had that strong follow up and this one
- 4:17had no interest that do not enjoy the Wahlberg.
- 4:19So you taking it off the shelf puts me in a position where I
- 4:22have to get a, I got a tick off a Singleton, I gotta take off a
- 4:27Wahlberg and I tick off an Andre 3000.
- 4:29And I wasn't sure that I was going to get an opportunity.
- 4:32Well, it's the best version of him, much better than Andre
- 4:342000. Sure.
- 4:35It's the upgrade, yeah. Absolutely, and he's fantastic.
- 4:38I will say, actually, coming out of the gate, I like him probably
- 4:41more than almost anybody else in this movie.
- 4:43OK? Jeremiah, Jerry, my hot take
- 4:46coming out of the gate is that he might be the best brother.
- 4:49OK? I was going to ask you that and
- 4:51I appreciate. You just wanted you to have an
- 4:52answer by the end, not just kind of like them all the same.
- 4:56This is sort of straight up the middle Dave answer.
- 4:58Yeah, well, I got some different thoughts this week.
- 5:00I'm gonna order them out for a one through 4 rank them.
- 5:03You can throw that throw the cops in there too if you.
- 5:06Like, oh, man. But yeah, so that's where I'm
- 5:07at. That's when I came into the
- 5:09movie with. Not a good footing.
- 5:11Not great footing, as you know, I want to walk like every movie
- 5:14you want to. But the reason why I haven't
- 5:16ever watched this is all those reasons coming in.
- 5:18So it had a little bit of an uphill.
- 5:19Battle I do recognize for you, and we joked about this
- 5:22periodically with a Wahlberg film or a Willis.
- 5:26If it's say a 6.8 IMDb, it is. I can expect a 4.8 kind of
- 5:32feeling around the movie, sure, because of the Wahlberg factor,
- 5:36the -2 of it all. It's how much they use them, how
- 5:39they utilize them, and how does he rise to the OK challenge, as
- 5:43it were. And he does.
- 5:44Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and we'll figure it out, figure out
- 5:47the movie. Here and some of his other
- 5:48movies he likes to play this role.
- 5:51This is right wheelhouse. Yeah, right.
- 5:53And you have to be willing to accept it.
- 5:56I generally am not. From the scowl look on his face
- 6:00to his on emotive face, to his inability to deliver a line with
- 6:04any enthusiasm or excitement, he's funny, anything.
- 6:09It's just like, it's really challenging.
- 6:11That's why I kind of equate he and Bruce together and that they
- 6:13really only have that one look now.
- 6:16Did they work together in a movie?
- 6:17Did they? I don't.
- 6:18Believe so. I don't think the screen could
- 6:19handle the smug implode. But before we get too far along,
- 6:25little faithful have to say about this bad boy here.
- 6:28I'm glad. Yeah, not bad boys.
- 6:30That was last week with Tea Leoni.
- 6:33That's right, this time. Her and her shoulder.
- 6:35Pads, right? What are we saying?
- 6:37Here we are saying the following When they're adoptive mother is
- 6:40gunned down in a store robbery, 4 brothers decide to investigate
- 6:44the murder and find the killers themselves.
- 6:47But not all is what it seems. That leaves a little to the
- 6:51imagination. I actually think you know what
- 6:54that is telling you what it is without getting too detailed,
- 6:57and there's enough interest in there that I might be willing to
- 6:59watch this movie. All right, there we go.
- 7:01That's a win then, yeah. I think that's the appropriate
- 7:04summation of this. Movie.
- 7:05Hope it's enough to bring you around.
- 7:06No, I did see the movie. That does tell me.
- 7:10Oh, this could be interesting. Yeah, that was the problem.
- 7:13That's the problem was actually to watch it.
- 7:14OK. Well, Phillip, I thought what
- 7:17would get you at least into it, the hook, as it were, would be
- 7:21the immediate snow. Absolutely.
- 7:23Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:24But you know, I love when the logos get tied into.
- 7:27The back, I love it. So I think that's my in.
- 7:30Yeah, no, that's a good. One to connect for you.
- 7:32Did it work? Well, I don't judge a movie
- 7:35within 3 seconds whether I like or dislike something, but I
- 7:39definitely was enjoying that particular moment.
- 7:41Yes, OK, wonderful. What are your thoughts around
- 7:45having the movie instantly go into what essentially triggers
- 7:50everything that happens? I was very surprised by how
- 7:53quickly she dies. Hmm.
- 7:55I mean, a movie has to have a reason for being right?
- 7:58So I get that the things are happening.
- 7:59And why beat around the? Bush.
- 8:00But if you think about last week, that was 15 minutes in or
- 8:03so by the time we're with Sarah and Grady in the bed talking
- 8:08about she's pregnant, like that's the real kind of hook of
- 8:10the movie. This is within 5 minutes.
- 8:12She's dead. Let's get it done.
- 8:14And I was impressed by that. OK, It's what happens next,
- 8:18unfortunately. That's what happens for the
- 8:19other. Hour 44, yeah, that doesn't
- 8:21really deliver or has a lot of questions and holes in it, but
- 8:24in terms of just opening with a bang, it definitely does.
- 8:26That it does that. Right.
- 8:28We set up her as a neighborhood guardian Angel, if you will.
- 8:32Yep. And then obviously we gotta kill
- 8:34her. She's gotta die, Yeah, I mean.
- 8:37Detroit. I don't know what that means.
- 8:39I don't have to get killed in. Detroit is one of the most
- 8:42violent cities in America, I think.
- 8:46I don't have any stats to back that up.
- 8:48That's the impression I get though.
- 8:50Detroit. Doesn't look like a very happy,
- 8:51hospitable place to live, at least in this.
- 8:53Movie. Yeah, Chicago would be another.
- 8:55One, maybe we should just send the National Guard and just take
- 8:58it over. There's a thought crime is a
- 8:59problem. Here's a thought sending
- 9:01military. Even, I mean, Al Capone ran
- 9:03Chicago. Was it?
- 9:04Yeah, in the in the 40s. Not that this has anything to do
- 9:06with Chicago, but Detroit and Chicago are known for this.
- 9:09Yeah, I felt the introduction music fitting to what I know is
- 9:15going to happen the next, you know, now and a half the
- 9:18soundtrack. Explain that to me.
- 9:19How Motown. OK, what does that tell you
- 9:22about what's going to happen next with the movie?
- 9:23Though the vibe OK I'm talking vibes buddy I.
- 9:26Like that soundtrack? Quite a.
- 9:27Bit I know you. Do this Motown vibe and that
- 9:29first song, very chill, very kind of smooth.
- 9:31I think it's good introduction to the movie.
- 9:33I like the font of the credits you have to find these things
- 9:38fill up. Well, I think that's maybe what
- 9:40I was missing. I should have paid more
- 9:42attention to the font because I was paying attention to the plot
- 9:44and the writing and the performances.
- 9:46Don't do that. Don't do that.
- 9:48It's the font. This is a very 2005 font.
- 9:51OK? Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:53Great stuff. I do like the vehicles though.
- 9:56He had Detroit known for their cars.
- 9:58That's very true. Very Motor City.
- 10:01Lot of Fords, Chevys. Not sure if it was a single
- 10:05brand of car that went Detroit but I'm sure they were flexible.
- 10:09Probably. I had a car similar.
- 10:11Had 86 Buick regal OK cutlass rims 305 four barrel.
- 10:17OK. V8 Fantastic.
- 10:19You don't know I'm talking. About vegetables, you know,
- 10:21tomatoes, celery, yeah. That's why I use for gas to fill
- 10:25it up. In the 80s, really ahead of
- 10:27their. Time.
- 10:28Yeah, yeah, we have Mark rolling into town.
- 10:31Looking so Wahlberg very. Wahlberg.
- 10:34Look on his face. The Oh yeah, the furrowed brow.
- 10:38So cool, so tough, such a fucking punk.
- 10:42I hate this. Guy, you put a picture of him
- 10:43beside nails and like you see the same thing because he's
- 10:47tough as them. Alright, same thing, but maybe
- 10:52you'll soften up out of the cemetery.
- 10:53A little bit. Probably not.
- 10:55He's incapable of playing soft. We do get a quick introduction
- 10:59of another character that we know from Hearts War.
- 11:03Oh yes, yes, yes, Howard. Yeah.
- 11:05Hustle and flow. Yeah, a preview actually of that
- 11:08movie came on before. I mean, I popped in the DVD.
- 11:13Going all the way I love. It the first thing that pops up,
- 11:15by the way, is the whole anti piracy thing.
- 11:18And like you're right, you're right.
- 11:20Would you steal a car? No, I wouldn't.
- 11:22Would you just steal a DVD? No, and I don't I don't I don't
- 11:27do what it's implying. Of course, stealing stuff off
- 11:29the Internet. No, of course.
- 11:30Not I don't do it. So I'm on board with this
- 11:32commercial. Not many people are the people
- 11:34needs to get to it doesn't get to.
- 11:36No, I mean just not convincing anybody with that.
- 11:38But I have some friends of mine that were film makers, are film
- 11:41makers. What happened for me in
- 11:42particular was the Internet was just becoming a thing in 2001.
- 11:45Hmm. And I had gone to see The Royal
- 11:47Tenenbaums and I loved it. I was such a fan and I couldn't
- 11:52wait to have it. And I saw it a couple times in
- 11:55the theatre and then in that gap between the movie and the video
- 11:58release. Limewire.
- 12:00Limewire. Kazaa.
- 12:01Right. Like all those things.
- 12:02I was like, I was so desperate to like, I just loved that movie
- 12:05so much. Sad.
- 12:06But then it came out of course, and I bought the DVD.
- 12:08It's still on the shelf, so I'll give you that.
- 12:10So there's that thing where it's like I will have occasioned to
- 12:14seek something out, but it's only often when it's unavailable
- 12:18elsewhere. If it's available elsewhere, I
- 12:21will own the disk as you. Know I'm looking in your room
- 12:23here. You're not the problem.
- 12:24Exactly. It's all but there have been
- 12:26times where it's like this movie is no longer available and it's
- 12:28even harder and harder and harder with the streaming world.
- 12:31You see what they want you. To see that's it.
- 12:33And so there's these top ten entire eras of film that are
- 12:37disappearing because nobody wants to watch black and white
- 12:39movies or the rights issue on some VHS copy of some movie from
- 12:431976 never got, you know? It's a good year, too.
- 12:46So it's a real challenge. So I'm very happy that I have
- 12:48the media that I have, but on occasion you gotta find it where
- 12:51you can. You gotta do what you gotta do,
- 12:53and what Terrence has to do here is give us some expositions.
- 12:56Right, he has a mission. Yeah.
- 12:58And I think this is a good opportunity, sitting in the car
- 13:01with Fowler. Yeah, going through their files
- 13:04of the Mercer boys, all adopted. Of course.
- 13:08Yeah, They kind of explained the whole plot, right?
- 13:10This is really this old lady picked them up.
- 13:12It fits, though. Yeah, I'm OK with this,
- 13:14actually. This didn't bother me.
- 13:15It was actually kind of satisfied with the way in which
- 13:19that exposition came out. Not ideal, like it's a bit
- 13:23heavy-handed, but. Jeremiah is straight.
- 13:26Yeah, Angel was a no show. Angel wasn't there.
- 13:29Bobby, he's the worst. He's the baddest guy on the
- 13:31planet. Jackie, he's a rock star.
- 13:34What the fuck does? That no, he was a first rate
- 13:36fuck up. That's why he said it.
- 13:38And a third rate Rockstar. Rockstar.
- 13:41That's right. There you go, buddy.
- 13:42Great quote. That's right.
- 13:43What I really liked about this, and it's such a small thing, the
- 13:46relationship Green, which is Howard's character, has with
- 13:51these kids as he pays his respects, sure comes to the
- 13:55backyard. Wahlberg has a fun moment with
- 13:57the kids I love. It Yeah.
- 13:59But they have this respect, but there's a limitation to that
- 14:03respect because they're on two different sides of the law.
- 14:05Obviously, I think this is where the problem right away is.
- 14:10Mark Wahlberg as an actor will never allow anybody else in a
- 14:16scene to be or have any value. So, tough guy, you're saying
- 14:21sincere relationship building between the two?
- 14:25It's brief. It's.
- 14:26Care though, but everything Wahlberg does or says to this
- 14:29guy who's supposedly this link between the two is is fucking
- 14:33jerk off. You don't know what the fuck is
- 14:36looking real nice on the other side of the street.
- 14:38You're doing a fine up job around here like always.
- 14:40Just like deriding him. Hey, look at.
- 14:42Detroit, they're not doing so great.
- 14:43I'm. Sure, but they want to present
- 14:44like these two are interconnected and I don't
- 14:47really feel that they are. It's just a second.
- 14:49It's there though I've check again, very brief.
- 14:52I don't disagree with you. Wahlberg, to a fault, does bring
- 14:57down quality. Of win every scene I think.
- 15:00Yeah, I think what saves that scene from the Walpurgis of it
- 15:06is is Terrence Howard seeing through his bullshit.
- 15:09Sure. And he's still able to have a
- 15:11moment with Jack. Shakes his hand.
- 15:13Give me some. Love.
- 15:14Yeah, it probably helps with this movie.
- 15:16Has four brothers to choose from with Green, as you're saying
- 15:18with that relationship because it doesn't The one-on-one with
- 15:21Wahlberg. Oh no, that's not gonna.
- 15:22That won't work well. But you're right, having him
- 15:24play with Jack or talk to Jerry like giving him some wiggle I
- 15:27think works. And Fowler too, yeah has another
- 15:30buffer to the whole situation. Fowler from.
- 15:32Our Things to do in Denver while You're Dead has more things to
- 15:36do in Detroit, apparently. He has more to.
- 15:39Do he's more to do he was just. Driving through Denver here, he
- 15:43gets to. Actually have a job and
- 15:45everything else and everything. Yeah.
- 15:46Speaking of houses, we fight, we Mosey on over to moms house.
- 15:52Yeah. And we find Angel waiting on the
- 15:56porch. Another porch, Another porch.
- 15:58Classic porch movie. This one more of a canopy.
- 16:02Yeah, has a canopy. Thank you.
- 16:03Thank you, Phillip. And what I enjoy about this
- 16:05movie and what I remember about enjoying it the first time I
- 16:08watched it and why I've gone back to it every few years.
- 16:11As much as this could be coined a revenge movie.
- 16:14Sure. It does allow some moments for
- 16:17some softness, some grieving. OK, have lost their mom,
- 16:21effectively, yeah. They're all in the house.
- 16:23The music changes and each of them has their own individual
- 16:27moment and how they're grieving, how they're mourning with the
- 16:31moment. Yeah, it's difficult to not
- 16:34allow. Wahlberg is going to probably
- 16:36come up a few times to over shadow the other characters in
- 16:39his moments. More important, like he's taking
- 16:42moms. Room.
- 16:43Yeah, even something like that. I'm like, you take your room,
- 16:46you take your room, I'm going to take Mom's room.
- 16:48I'm just like, who are you, man? He presumably you all have
- 16:51rooms. Yeah, he's obviously the alpha
- 16:53of their war. Yeah, and don't fight it.
- 16:57For sure, absolutely. And those aren't things that
- 16:59again, like Take Me Out or don't Take Me Out like that's fine.
- 17:01But there is moments of sort of, well, who?
- 17:04Who are you? Who are you who died?
- 17:06Mom did. Why do you get her room, you
- 17:09know? It's nice room.
- 17:10Too. It's a beautiful.
- 17:11Room all the rooms. Got a nice basket in there.
- 17:12It's got on sweet. I mean, my gosh.
- 17:15I could not help but think about Bruce Willis.
- 17:18Oh yes, in the moments that he's had to show emotion, even myself
- 17:24couldn't quite buy Mark Wahlberg crying.
- 17:27Yeah, he's not getting there. It doesn't last for too long.
- 17:31Yeah, I don't buy it for a second.
- 17:32Yeah, I buy that he's upset about.
- 17:34Sure, her getting shot. I think that normal human beings
- 17:37would be sad. I just don't think he is sad in
- 17:40this moment. You love a good tussle.
- 17:50Yeah. Angel versus Jerry, get him.
- 17:54Jerry, get him. It's a memorable line from this
- 17:57movie that every time I watch this, there's like four or five
- 17:59lines. Mostly it's around them.
- 18:02Making fun of Jack, sure, which I think is still funny, Totally.
- 18:05But I love Turkey tryptophan. They're all at the table.
- 18:08Another quiet moment where they all, not all, I don't know if
- 18:12you noticed this, Three of them. Look at the empty chair.
- 18:17See, Mom? close your mouth when you're
- 18:20chewing. Get your elbows off the table.
- 18:22It's OK that you have a tattoo, Jack.
- 18:26He's really intense performance wise.
- 18:29I don't know if it was a little too much, but he's really having
- 18:32a moment there. Struggling, yeah.
- 18:34There's a couple scenes where I think he maybe dollars up a
- 18:36little bit, but as a person that lost his mom at a pretty young
- 18:39age, it's easy to tap into that. So I'm willing to certainly give
- 18:42it some credit. I like this character over
- 18:44generally, yeah, I think. So I think generally he's maybe
- 18:47the most interesting. It's tough to say.
- 18:49As you know, Andre 3000. Jeremy is my guy.
- 18:52You did say that. I'm find myself a little
- 18:54challenged during this scene because it's these moments in
- 18:58these movies where you want to feel something, right?
- 19:00This is these four brothers. It's the first kind of quiet
- 19:03moment, like you're saying everybody's setting down.
- 19:06Kind of thinking in. Yeah, the revelation, you know,
- 19:09you've had some time to sit on it.
- 19:11And my thought was, and maybe this is just me being a little
- 19:14nitpicky, so take it with the grain, I will.
- 19:17But I think to myself, the fondest memories that they have
- 19:20of this woman, of her effectively just nagging them,
- 19:24the nice nag. It just feels like like if I was
- 19:27to think back of my dead mom, it wouldn't be.
- 19:30There wasn't. She wouldn't be get your feet
- 19:32off the table. So it strikes me as odd, and
- 19:35obviously the context is the context, but it just felt like
- 19:38the relationship between these guys and their mother because
- 19:42she dies so soon in the movie. We don't really know.
- 19:45If you're going to do this type of scene, to me it's like a
- 19:49positive scene. It's a happy scene.
- 19:50It's a memory of something that brings them together or
- 19:54something even like a flashback of her with them as young kids
- 19:58so that there's just a feeling of camaraderie.
- 20:00But we get introduced to the movie.
- 20:02Into the characters as badasses. Or very bad especially.
- 20:06Bobby and they kind of shoot their own shit at each other,
- 20:09which is human, right? So I like it, but it's like at
- 20:12some point do they even like each other, you know?
- 20:15So I don't feel that feeling. I don't feel that thing, I
- 20:19think. It's a sweet moment with the
- 20:21tattoo, sure. I think it's they know that.
- 20:24She had the hat, too. They do now.
- 20:27I thought you were going to throw Monk in my face with the
- 20:30fact that you're seeing somebody who has passed away as well.
- 20:33That's all. Died.
- 20:35Yes. Yes, good.
- 20:37So I think this movie wants that, for the record.
- 20:40I think that wants the emotion and I think it needs the emotion
- 20:42for the rest of it to mean anything.
- 20:44And because it's sort of stumbling and faltering early,
- 20:47some of the later stuff in the relationship to how passionate
- 20:51they are. The way I look at it is these
- 20:52guys want Bobby in particular, like wants to fight, wants to
- 20:56kill and wants to do bad things. And the excuse is moms dead.
- 21:01I got a carte blanche rather than something really traumatic
- 21:05happened. And the only way I know how to
- 21:07deal with it is this other thing.
- 21:08So it just feels like it's contrived.
- 21:10I don't know something about it. The scene triggers.
- 21:12It I think you're reading way too much into it.
- 21:14Probably OK, let's just go play some hockey.
- 21:16OK, let's get to the let's get it up.
- 21:19Let's get on the ice. Let's.
- 21:20Cool it. Down for a bit, I want quick
- 21:22sticks and tight passing. Again, just another throwaway
- 21:26line that I like because it's hockey related.
- 21:29Absolutely. #24 Detroit Red Wings, Yeah, Who is it?
- 21:34Well, it's not Eyes run 19 local boy, obviously.
- 21:37He's not knowing you and it's. Not better on Federov my boy.
- 21:41OK. It's not Chelios 27 or is it
- 21:45Chelios 20? 4 Two people.
- 21:47Paul Coffey. No you idiot, you 7 or 77.
- 21:51His old life you moron. Sorry, that came off a little
- 21:54harsh. Bob Probert.
- 21:57Oht Gosh. Oh yeah, Robert.
- 21:59Of course I saw it on the back of his.
- 22:00Jersey maybe my question was to you, did you see it because
- 22:03Chelios also wore 24, OK, but. The 27 on Montreal.
- 22:07That's why. Maybe, but there's also the A.
- 22:10Was Probert ever an assistant captain?
- 22:12I would hope not. I don't think he qualifies.
- 22:14But the back of that of Bobby Jersey red proper now that you
- 22:17mentioned it. But they did everything but
- 22:19quick sticks and tight passing. All they showed was the hits,
- 22:23just. It's just a bunch of
- 22:25roughhousing on the IT was a little.
- 22:28But I get what they're trying to do.
- 22:30Keep with that motif. Yes, it's just like a montage of
- 22:33beaten down ass. Doesn't make any.
- 22:35Sense and there's a quick moment after their hockey game, after
- 22:38breaking bones, that bothered me, and So what reason I'm going
- 22:42to bring it up. Please.
- 22:43The only thing in the movie I didn't.
- 22:44Like the one they talk about? IT threat Andre 3000.
- 22:48Your boy. My boy.
- 22:49I just found this out. Showing off his warehouse.
- 22:52Jack's taking a leak. I'm OK with that.
- 22:55No problem. OK.
- 22:56Inside the warehouse. Yeah, there could be a little
- 22:58disrespectful, but it basically has to be completely redone.
- 23:01Remodeled, I guess. But Bobby drinks half of a beer
- 23:06and just smashes it on the ground.
- 23:08This. Go get a real drink.
- 23:09Yeah, I don't argue. Let's go get a real drink.
- 23:11Here on board. At that time, 2500 hundred
- 23:16percent. But I hate broken glass.
- 23:20Totally disrespectful. Let's go to the other thing of
- 23:22like, do these people even like each other?
- 23:24It's obnoxious. Yeah, it's rude.
- 23:26That's the Wahlberg effect. Is that written or was that ad
- 23:29libbed? Let me do it, guys.
- 23:30Let me break the glass. It's like, I believe that it
- 23:32could be either. That's the attitude he's got in
- 23:34everything I've ever seen him in, or every interview I've ever
- 23:36had or anything. Apparently he's actually a
- 23:38really nice guy. He's always asking how your mom
- 23:40is, and that's a very nice thing to ask.
- 23:42How's your mother? How is mom?
- 23:47Very sweet guy, but they do go to the bar as promised.
- 23:53Yeah, have some. Stiff drinks.
- 23:55That's right, you go knock on a couple doors.
- 23:57Well, it's the least they could do, that's all.
- 23:59Bartender gives them some Intel. The one line I didn't like of
- 24:02this scene, it's not very long. It's just to give us an idea
- 24:05there might be more to the story.
- 24:06And they don't believe Green will do the job.
- 24:09Or Fowler for that matter, which I think is a little stupid, is
- 24:16are you going to go shoot up the town?
- 24:17And Angel says, why not? If you say that after, why not
- 24:23knock on some doors? Sure, sure.
- 24:26Why not shoot up the town? I don't know.
- 24:28It's Detroit. Let's not forget that, which
- 24:31Andre does make clear. And this leads us to a whole set
- 24:35of scenes which the boys, the brothers are investigating,
- 24:39trying to get to the. Real heart of the matter.
- 24:40Here, the real heart, the real heart of the matter.
- 24:43We talk, it's time. It's.
- 24:45That's right. And it turns out they're going
- 24:47to do the gas thing. Yeah, which everybody seems to
- 24:50understand. They get it.
- 24:51Listen, that delivery of Wahlberg making fun of Jack,
- 24:55which is a theme which I absolutely love throughout the
- 24:58whole movie. Whole movie?
- 24:59Yeah. Are we gonna do the dance thing?
- 25:02I just love that delivery. Sure.
- 25:04It's seeing Wahlberg for a split second, not really being
- 25:07Wahlberg. Or be so self serious that he
- 25:09allows himself to be a little, yeah, little whiny, but only.
- 25:13Yeah, I don't know. It's a sweet moment.
- 25:15Well, I don't know about that, but it's definitely a moment.
- 25:18Have you been to a gang hideout? That's my real question.
- 25:21I want to get to the root. Of no, I don't think so.
- 25:24I mean I could have been not unknowing maybe maybe, but there
- 25:29a lot of traveling I mean it's possible this is a big one.
- 25:31It is. It's.
- 25:31Huge gas smells, but diesel smells worse.
- 25:35Did you know that? I don't know if I've ever
- 25:37smelled. Diesel.
- 25:38I worked at a gas station, you know, that was one of the best
- 25:41gas jockeys, yeah, the world has ever seen.
- 25:43Yeah. Trophies.
- 25:44Yes, but for bowling. We'll get to that later, but I'd
- 25:49spilt some diesel on my boots and I was still going to school
- 25:52and I was on the bus. I'm like, Oh my God, this whole
- 25:55bus Bobby smells like diesel. Wow, it's me and the diesel.
- 25:59Diesel's brutal. I love the smell of gas when
- 26:01it's being pumped, like I love that.
- 26:04But once it gets on something, it's no good and also burns if
- 26:07you light it. And that seems to be their.
- 26:09Stick. That's their milieu, if you.
- 26:11Will so they get this guy that allegedly is involved or knows
- 26:15who might be involved and gives them a.
- 26:18Little bit of information. Yeah, information.
- 26:20Yes, he's got an alibi. Wasn't me.
- 26:22Because they said it's got to be a setup from the cops because
- 26:25that woman, she was killed at like 11:30 and those courts end
- 26:28at 10. That's right.
- 26:30And Wahlberg says what the fuck are you talking about?
- 26:34He looks at his watch first, though.
- 26:36Luckily it's around 10. Right, close by, let's go for a
- 26:38walk. You and me.
- 26:40And he takes them there. And this is actually a scene I
- 26:42don't mind. I actually like this scene, the
- 26:44way it plays. Just dive into it.
- 26:46There's not a lot to it. But I do like the effectiveness
- 26:49of the ticking clock. We know really what's going to
- 26:52happen. Of course.
- 26:53I thought it's laid out very well.
- 26:55The tension is there and allowing it to go 1001 or what
- 26:59have you before it drops. I actually feel the performances
- 27:02by the guy that's terrified. Yeah, but I don't like, of
- 27:06course. Is that right?
- 27:06After it's undercut, it immediately turns into vulgarity
- 27:10and like, go fuck yourselves and spitting on I'm gonna beat your
- 27:13mother and you know. All they just can't help it.
- 27:15Yeah, and I get it. That's the characters, that's
- 27:16the movie, that's the tone. So it's not really bothersome
- 27:19other than just like, here's a moment that I was kind of like,
- 27:21that's pretty good. Then it just goes right into
- 27:23I'll beat your ass Tarnished. Yeah, like a retread of that
- 27:26same tone. Yep, tone setter.
- 27:29Totally. So once we've established that
- 27:31it couldn't be the way that they think it is or they've been told
- 27:34it is, they gotta go back. They gotta talk to the store
- 27:38owner and they watch the footage.
- 27:40They do. And I don't know, and maybe it
- 27:43wasn't clear. I don't know if you can help me
- 27:45out. I'd love to, but I.
- 27:46Never really got the impression at this point why they were so
- 27:51set on the fact that this was a murder.
- 27:53I like a hit job like a specifically like.
- 27:56They are. Or after her.
- 27:58I don't see that at this point really kind of at all in the
- 28:02movie. Did you pick up on?
- 28:03That it is a little weak? Please.
- 28:05It is a little weak. My main gripe about it is if you
- 28:08recall the very opening scene, they rob the guy, shoot him,
- 28:14which causes her to make a little bit of a noise.
- 28:17That's right, She gasped. Or something.
- 28:19So, oh, there's somebody else in this room.
- 28:20Yeah, that's right. But they're after her.
- 28:23Theoretically. In theory, yeah.
- 28:26So their reaction felt so real and genuine in that very first
- 28:30scene. It's tricking the audience and I
- 28:33don't. Appreciate that.
- 28:34No, I don't mind that she is a target.
- 28:36Sure makes sense they're going after her, but the delivery of
- 28:39it is weak. I think that now you mentioned
- 28:43that I believe when they're watching the screen, Wahlberg of
- 28:46course is because he figures out everything he's the one that's
- 28:48looking at and he says it doesn't make any sense.
- 28:50They already have the money. Valid point.
- 28:52But not really, because in these, I mean, thousands of
- 28:55movies we've watched, the killers are killers.
- 28:58The killers are there. They're trying to rob the place.
- 29:00They didn't have to kill the guy they.
- 29:02Just want the money, but they killed the guy and then
- 29:04therefore that means somebody saw them kill the guy.
- 29:07So they have to kill the guy who saw them kill the guy, right?
- 29:09Or the girl. So frankly, that's real life.
- 29:12So it has nothing to do with any of the plot that the movie
- 29:15starts to pile on it from this move it forward.
- 29:18And he walks out. It's a set up, yeah.
- 29:20That's like this is set up why they go after mom.
- 29:22We got to tear this down. They do, but.
- 29:24Sure, and it turns out that she is set up.
- 29:26But none of that makes any real sense.
- 29:28It's a knock against it. Agreed, it's all we have to have
- 29:31a reason. Yeah, and that is a funny thing.
- 29:33We have these conversations and sometimes when you watched the
- 29:37movie back then, yeah, the same things that bother you then
- 29:40bother you now sometimes because you've watched it several times.
- 29:45We have the SBR effect where you do start to point out things
- 29:48like this didn't bother me the first time I watched it, but it
- 29:52does now. This always bothered me that we
- 29:56are misdirected as an audience. It's like a retcon its own
- 29:59movie. Like it's.
- 29:59Yeah, but the self retcon, Yeah, it bothersome.
- 30:02What I think is interesting about what you just said is it's
- 30:04also true the reverse, which is. Say like it never bothered me
- 30:07before and it never bothered me still, and you can go the other
- 30:10way. It starts to sour.
- 30:11Sometimes you sweeten, sometimes you sour a little bit.
- 30:13Regardless, we have to find a guy that's not wearing a jacket
- 30:16and sweatpants. That's the tip we get from the
- 30:19owner. That's what we get, yeah.
- 30:20To continue this investigation and I think that description.
- 30:24Is in that neighborhood. In that neighborhood you can
- 30:26locate that. Sure.
- 30:28And we, you and I Mosey on over to the gymnasium.
- 30:33This scene is fucking crazy. It's great.
- 30:36It's so fucking great so. Detroit, am I right?
- 30:39Have you ever been to No Great Airport?
- 30:42Yeah, I bet I. Say something nice about this
- 30:45scene because I can't. Wahlberg has fun with this.
- 30:48He's got the rock now. He's got the rock.
- 30:50The fuck? Something about him not giving a
- 30:53shit in this scene. Shooting guns isn't high school.
- 30:58Sure he didn't shoot it. It could be plastic, you don't
- 31:03know. Catherine.
- 31:05Could be Cap gun, I recognize the silliness of that, but
- 31:10because Wahlberg is just over the top and ends the scene with
- 31:14a sound like he's Muslim all of a sudden and the way he just
- 31:19throws the ball backwards, I get a kick out of it.
- 31:21Sure, you know, it's just the Wahlberg mystique.
- 31:25Embrace it is what I'm saying. Embrace it.
- 31:27Phil. I picked this movie before
- 31:30watching Wonder Boys. Course I have no idea.
- 31:33Planned out months ago. What's happening there?
- 31:37We get another dog. Biting scene.
- 31:41Yeah, same like might have been same like.
- 31:44What are the odds, Phillip? Never would have guessed.
- 31:46I do love the dog chewing the leg and trying to chew and the
- 31:51guys like. Don't shoot my dog, What do you
- 31:52expect? Yeah, exactly.
- 31:54It's pretty funny, playful. It's a little playful, but
- 31:58ultimately, of course, they catch up with.
- 32:00Him, yeah, ain't dead, just fucked up.
- 32:02Just fucked up. Cut the Rope, he falls down.
- 32:05They just know. Judging by the distance, yeah,
- 32:07they should know. They're thugs.
- 32:08That's right. This is what they know.
- 32:10This is. Their This is their.
- 32:10World, what's up? Enough information to keep this,
- 32:14to keep this eventually, to keep this investigation alive.
- 32:17Yeah, Moving on to the next tier of thugs.
- 32:21We're moving up the thug ladder. That's right, as it were.
- 32:23Which takes us to one of your favorite places.
- 32:25Casino Alright. I do love the casino, almost
- 32:29went the other day. Good for you, For, you know,
- 32:31seeing. Strong.
- 32:32Now that I've got the OG app, it's like I don't even need.
- 32:34To go Oh yeah, Luckily, much like the guy that doesn't wear a
- 32:38winter jacket, this guy has a very distinct beard.
- 32:42Look a little you know what I'm? Talking.
- 32:44I do, absolutely, you know, and listeners do.
- 32:46Yeah, So he could point him out in a room.
- 32:49Absolutely. Which leads us to a showcase
- 32:51scene. Phil, showcase.
- 32:53This is one of those examples of a scene I really liked the first
- 32:57time. But this time I'm like, they
- 33:00blow a tire. I don't think you're keeping up
- 33:03the speed. It's just too big of a scene.
- 33:06Yeah, because I like it. I actually enjoyed this.
- 33:08It shot well. It shot well.
- 33:10The snow adds the extra element. Good cutting, good editing.
- 33:13Yeah, like I was like, I'm into this, but same like you're just
- 33:15saying just like do you need to lose a car, lose a hood, lose a
- 33:18wheel, lose a roof, lose the windows and still come out
- 33:22ahead? At it becomes to the point where
- 33:24I don't. Believe almost comical by the
- 33:26time it's over. Which kind of takes away from
- 33:28what they were trying to do because I think doing it in the
- 33:30snow, totally slipping in a slide in.
- 33:33That's opportunity 100%, and I think that's ultimately some of
- 33:35the stuff in the movie which we'll get to.
- 33:37But throughout it's like, take something that is reasonable,
- 33:41let's say, and then just amp it up two notches and it becomes
- 33:45too much. Even 1 notch would be acceptable
- 33:48and Wahlberg is the same. It's like if he kept his stuff
- 33:51in check, yes, you'd be like, OK, you know, he's a little hype
- 33:54strong, but that one notch is enough to kind of he's the alpha
- 33:58again it. Show that vulnerability just for
- 34:00a moment. But he wants 3 notches at every
- 34:02scene and so it's like the car. And he is the car, yeah.
- 34:06But it just goes one step and those guys aren't going anymore
- 34:10steps. Because there are no, they're
- 34:12not going to talk. Yeah, not going to talk.
- 34:15Jack didn't like it. Nobody likes it.
- 34:16I think Mark likes it. He doesn't care.
- 34:18At the very least, he's indifferent.
- 34:20That's right, an Angel. You don't care.
- 34:22Sure, we'll shoot whoever. We're Andre 335 hundred.
- 34:26He's been upgraded and Jack were like, we're bad, but we're not
- 34:31killing. Bad.
- 34:31Yeah, we don't do that. Yeah, we don't do that.
- 34:33So I think that's evident through Jack's reaction.
- 34:43There's a bigger scene with a really badass character coming
- 34:46U, but I cannot skip the moment where we see Wahlberg in a rope.
- 34:53Oh, that's right, last week, Grady Trip writes in his.
- 34:57Robe frilly number. Yeah, what a coincidence.
- 35:01It's hilarious. It is a weird.
- 35:02Coincidence. That's the only reason I bring
- 35:04it up is back-to-back weeks with a dude wearing I think a
- 35:08feminine robe. I think.
- 35:10I think Wahlberg's robe is better.
- 35:11It is. I think it's sticker in here
- 35:13thicker. I don't think it's thicker, I
- 35:15know it feels like it's more of a.
- 35:16Cashier thing is definitely, definitely shinier, yeah.
- 35:19But I think the cotton, I think is what grade he's wearing.
- 35:22And the other part of that scene is just Fowler trying to do the
- 35:25old hair follicle trick. Oldest one in the.
- 35:27Books that am I right? Right, but he's on to it, so.
- 35:30I don't have a lot of follicles left.
- 35:33But let's take a trip. Let's go to the restaurant.
- 35:36I'm a little famished. You are famish.
- 35:37You look famished. Clearly you've had some issues
- 35:41with the film so far. Totally.
- 35:43Yeah, a little bit, yeah, not a lot, yeah.
- 35:45I'm thinking if anybody can turn it around a little bit and reel
- 35:49you back in, it's the performance of the actor playing
- 35:53Victor Sweet. I can't say the name Chiwetel
- 35:55Ejiofor. Thank you.
- 35:57I was scared shitless of this guy the first time I watched.
- 36:01This is the best. He's a very good bad guy.
- 36:02He's excellent actor generally. He's great in Dirty Pretty
- 36:05Things, which is his first movie.
- 36:07I saw him in Children of Men, which is excellent in He played
- 36:10Red Belt in the David Mamet movie.
- 36:12He's been around. He's in a bunch of things.
- 36:15I think this guy, to me, conveys so much more threat with, well,
- 36:20with what he's bringing to the table.
- 36:21You're like this guy. His demeanor, his guys gonna.
- 36:24Fuck you up, OK? And Wahlberg just wants everyone
- 36:26to know that he's gonna fuck you up.
- 36:27Wahlberg's gonna punch you. Yeah, hit you.
- 36:30This guy is going to feed. You.
- 36:32Yeah, to an animal. That's right.
- 36:34You know what I mean? Choppy and a little pieces.
- 36:36All those things. This guy and things to do in
- 36:38Denver when you're dead. This guy would fit in with the
- 36:41walk-in of it all. Yeah, sure.
- 36:43So much so that these are people that work for them.
- 36:46And he talks about how he wanted outside shooters, and that's a
- 36:49good request. 100% and he gets inside computers really pissed
- 36:52off. About it?
- 36:52Not good. And Evan's hungry as well.
- 36:56Yeah, pasta. Bad timing.
- 36:57Bad timing wins the award. Luckily, there is a rule.
- 37:03It's 5 seconds. Yeah, that's true.
- 37:05So if the food is on the floor, you're OK.
- 37:07He's OK. His wife.
- 37:10That's about 15 seconds. That's 15 seconds.
- 37:12And poor woman. Yeah.
- 37:14So it's humiliating and degrading and sad, but you're
- 37:18like, this guy means it. And he's the best performance in
- 37:21the movie. Other than Wahlberg, we can all,
- 37:23we can all agree to lighten things up a little bit if we
- 37:27want to go back a month or so. We did Varsity Blues Truth and
- 37:31Paul Walker, Ali Larter. That's right.
- 37:33And a dryer. Yes.
- 37:35That's right, now we get Tyrese Gibson.
- 37:37Yep, Sofia Vergara, La La la and the dryer.
- 37:43Of course I don't have the same dryer.
- 37:45She's saying I already said it to this.
- 37:48We go for 16 again. Yeah, yeah, she's raring.
- 37:51And like a bad commercial, we're interrupted by State Farm.
- 37:56And this puts a little suspicion on Jerry, your boy.
- 38:01Introduces this insurance. Yeah, that's a lot of money.
- 38:04Sure, but 400,000 bucks. So I understand the suspicion.
- 38:08See, this is the thing we talked about a couple of weeks ago,
- 38:10right? Which is like Batman or John
- 38:13McLean. It's like you've saved the world
- 38:16and now you're dead. To me.
- 38:18These guys presumably are brothers.
- 38:20They've forged in this family thing.
- 38:23They're whole demeanor is these are the four brothers.
- 38:26One guy makes one comment about one insurance claim and all of a
- 38:31sudden it's Jeremy's a bad apple.
- 38:35He's suspicious. I think he's on to something.
- 38:37He screwed something over. It's Jerry.
- 38:39Jerry or Jeremiah, not Jeremy. I said it's about 40 times
- 38:43guess, but hopefully the listeners have only heard three
- 38:46by this. Point.
- 38:47So you don't delete them. So you don't think that exchange
- 38:50is enough even to be a little suspicious because they don't go
- 38:52right to oh, he's the bad guy. Could ask the question, I
- 38:55suppose. Yeah, they're just a little
- 38:57suspicious. But I think that it's not
- 38:58something that is so on natural that there would be.
- 39:02That's a lot of money, man. Sure, but that's what insurance
- 39:05is. Yeah.
- 39:06Right. Like if I die tomorrow there's
- 39:08gonna be $550,000 or something. Yeah.
- 39:11But if recently your insurance changed and I get $400,000, all
- 39:15of a sudden that's a little. Suspicious.
- 39:18OK, I guess there's been some changes and they don't go, like,
- 39:22right to Jerry, we're going to kill you right away.
- 39:25They do their due diligence. It's just.
- 39:27Yeah, I guess it felt like the suspicion was too high too
- 39:30quickly, considering that's his. Brother, yeah, you're jumping
- 39:33the gun. They've jumped.
- 39:35I'm just you're jumping guns. It might be a triple action
- 39:38Beretta, which they find it's a hell of a hell of a gun.
- 39:42OK, Did you enjoy seeing that in?
- 39:45Beach, though, I always do. I know you always do.
- 39:47I love the beach. Flags of our fathers, Sure.
- 39:49When talkers. When Talkers Classic.
- 39:52All Canadian boy my. Movies, that's true yeah, I'll
- 39:55see you bringing out of beach off the.
- 39:56Beach fan than I am this. Is a small role for him though.
- 39:59Totally. You could literally got anybody
- 40:01to do this. Yeah, it's an odd choice.
- 40:03Maybe just wants to be. Yeah, maybe you just needed a
- 40:06job. Sure.
- 40:06Yeah. OK.
- 40:07I don't know when those two other movies came out, but I
- 40:09think earlier. Yeah, but.
- 40:10He he drops a name. Yes, he does.
- 40:12Douglas, Dougie. Dougray.
- 40:14Dugan, Dougie. Councilman, it's just Douglas,
- 40:18OK? All right?
- 40:19He looks like a dog as he does not look like a Dougie, right?
- 40:23And there's some dialogue here that I've not quite clicking
- 40:28with, like you're paying off somebody, you're shutting it
- 40:31down. He's in with the bad guys.
- 40:34I get it. I guess it's too much plotting
- 40:37to me a little bit. It starts to feel like we're
- 40:39getting a little convoluted for the type of movie this movie is
- 40:42it, and it's only $1.50. Like it's really not.
- 40:45When I watched the second time, it all made more sense.
- 40:48But the first few times I watched, like, I really don't
- 40:50know what Jerry's involved. With I don't think it's very
- 40:53clear, to be honest with you. I just don't think it matters.
- 40:55Is the problem. It's in the mix, but it's, to me
- 40:57just so convoluted, you know, I just watched a movie in the
- 41:00theatre. It was a mystery Monday.
- 41:02Oh, and so you don't know what it is.
- 41:04I've heard about. This and all I knew going in was
- 41:06it's in the thrills and chills categories and it is an 18 a
- 41:09movie and R rated You like that? I was like I'm in and it was a
- 41:13movie called Sisu Road to Revenge.
- 41:16Never heard of it. Me neither.
- 41:17But it's a finished movie and it's a sequel to another movie
- 41:21which I had never seen. But effectively, this guy gets
- 41:23wronged and he spends the rest of the movie on a revenge tour.
- 41:27So like a Charles Bronson film a little bit?
- 41:30And the simplicity of that, it was very violent.
- 41:32It was very gory. It was this, but specifically
- 41:34the simplicity of this story. Like John Wick?
- 41:36Very. Something like that.
- 41:38You can make that movie where you don't need the plot to be
- 41:42elaborate or to have these side tangents and stuff.
- 41:45So to me, this bit of business with Jerry.
- 41:49And. The insurance claim and the
- 41:52money and who's involved and when did this and is, he says
- 41:56all the suspicion stuff. I just don't like the movie
- 41:58needs it and it slows a movie down despite the fact that it's
- 42:02$1.50 and isn't paced poorly. It's just it's like this whole
- 42:05section, I'm like, I don't need any of this and it doesn't make
- 42:08much sense to. Me.
- 42:09I used to think that way. Grown up, came around.
- 42:12There's still hope for you. You need to watch this probably
- 42:14a couple more times. It could be you'll get it or pay
- 42:16more attention to that particular plot.
- 42:18It just felt like it wasn't delivering.
- 42:20I think he nodded. Off and I didn't know it off,
- 42:22but I didn't care. They gotta care.
- 42:24Do you care about the? Lawyer.
- 42:25I love the lawyer that's a Canadian guy.
- 42:27Is he? There he go.
- 42:29Couldn't tell his name but I know Canadian face when I see.
- 42:31It they found a camera, he's on it with Ellen.
- 42:36Her name eluded me the whole time.
- 42:38Missus Mercer. Mercer.
- 42:40So they're going to pay him a visit.
- 42:42This is the point of the movie where I have tagged Sophie as a
- 42:48femme Francis. That's she's deal.
- 42:51She's been annoying the whole time.
- 42:53I know it's her character, I know it's her role.
- 42:55Wahlberg's character doesn't help those scenes at all because
- 42:59he's being equally annoying. Truth.
- 43:01But she comes to the house. You're breaking in all this and
- 43:04just like, oh, shut up. She's, yeah, really naggy,
- 43:07really loud, really boisterous. Yeah, I agree.
- 43:10She's. Miserable.
- 43:10It's just really annoying and it's unnecessary for this scene.
- 43:14Well, hold that thought. Hold it.
- 43:18Anyways, the lawyer was just a little embarrassed.
- 43:20It's not much to that scene. No, it's a realization that
- 43:22they're together. Yeah, I don't think that scene
- 43:24needs to exist. What does need to exist in this
- 43:27movie is Bobby taking a shit. The worst in the.
- 43:30Movie best scene in the movie Oh, I don't know, it's just it's
- 43:35funny we have a guy who does not give a shit or is giving a shit
- 43:40but doesn't give a shit the fact that people see him, he's got no
- 43:44shame. Jackson, those shower.
- 43:46Yeah, which you do not shower someone taking a shit.
- 43:48That's a bad smell. This is what I'm.
- 43:50Talking about what are we talking?
- 43:51About yeah, Jack, bad timing. Maybe Jack was already in the
- 43:54shower and Wahlberg like I don't give a fuck, this is my house.
- 43:57Doesn't seem to care. Doesn't seem to care.
- 43:59Reading the newspaper. As you do back in 2005, 2005,
- 44:04now your Candy Crush. Tyrese and his escapades has him
- 44:07thinking something's wrong down there and another gay joke Jack.
- 44:12He looks at it. Just rugburn.
- 44:13Look allergist colleges. Exactly.
- 44:16I don't know, I just love the nonchalance of a guy on a
- 44:20shitter and doesn't care what people are there.
- 44:22Well, I mean, this shit doesn't say it's Tyrese's nonchalance
- 44:25that is the most interesting here.
- 44:27Just like, hey, check out my cock, guys.
- 44:29Yeah. Roses look like they're
- 44:31brothers. Sure.
- 44:32I think she don't stick the dumbest.
- 44:34I think that's the take away. That is the take away that is
- 44:37fair. Mark Wahlberg.
- 44:38Just don't say. It actually sounds very good.
- 44:40Yeah. I'm the king of finesse.
- 44:42Yeah, wait for me. Yeah, and he's got no toilet
- 44:45paper. Get me toilet paper.
- 44:46I don't know. It's just so organic.
- 44:51I'm glad you liked it. I'm glad you liked this movie.
- 44:53I'm sorry, did I feel this scene in particular?
- 44:55It was one that I was like, oh, this is too far.
- 44:57Yeah, you're not taking this out for the world.
- 44:59We're gonna go back to a classic, though.
- 45:01Of course. Please.
- 45:01The gasoline move old school. Yeah.
- 45:05And This is why I kind of pushed back to you on the Jerry
- 45:08suspicious stuff because Tyrese is playing it cool.
- 45:10Like, I'm going to continue to look into that.
- 45:12I'm not going to tell you because you're a hot head and
- 45:15I'm not convinced Jerry is bad. You go check out this Douglas
- 45:19guy, the Councilman, and they do the guests.
- 45:22The gas that did the gas thing, yeah.
- 45:25And what I love about this scene, Phil, you're, you're not
- 45:28gonna argue on this one is the way Douglas says gas, gas.
- 45:36I'm not doing it justice. Watch it again.
- 45:38It's a real treat. Guess yes.
- 45:41It's like, why does he smell gas?
- 45:42Well, we know why. Of course it's the gas thing.
- 45:44And he gives up Victor Sweet. So pretty quick, so fast.
- 45:49Not a good sign. No, not for him.
- 45:51Going to be a bit of an issue, Not gonna end well.
- 45:53Meanwhile, Jerry's cashing a check, we get Fowler on film,
- 45:57and we get to enjoy your favorite sport.
- 46:00What's my favorite? Sport 10 pin bowling.
- 46:02Oh shoot, that is my second. Favorite this is not only are
- 46:06our movies very different to what we like.
- 46:09I'm 5 pin, you're 10 pin. Sure.
- 46:12Yeah, yeah, I got bigger balls. I'd get that checked out if
- 46:16they're that big. I have trophies, yes.
- 46:20For five pin. Yeah, got some high scores in
- 46:22there. I'm still good.
- 46:23I like to play more. Hmm.
- 46:25I like small balls and I'm not ashamed of it.
- 46:28I don't think you should be. But they think Jerry should be
- 46:30ashamed for giving some money to Evan.
- 46:32That's really what I'm getting at.
- 46:33Yeah, again, whatever. Once you write it out on a piece
- 46:36of paper, which I recommend you doing afterwards, little
- 46:38homework for you, it all does make sense.
- 46:41OK, Just like Evan wearing a Dickerson jersey.
- 46:46Cool stickers. He's a Colts running back just
- 46:49before my time. OK.
- 46:50Which adds up because of Evan's age in 2005.
- 46:54Sure, I'm buying it. Is it because his name is
- 46:56Dickerson? No.
- 46:58You're so immature, Phil. Colts are having a great year.
- 47:02That's important to know. This year or this year?
- 47:05This year, Maybe in 2005, Douglas is about to have a bad
- 47:09year. Yeah, he's not having a good
- 47:12time. Have you ever sat at the kids
- 47:14table? I've asked you a question for a.
- 47:17While yeah, no. I would as an adult with lack of
- 47:20space cause I just get along with the kids I.
- 47:22Rather have those conversations. I agree.
- 47:24It's sometimes it's a little more fun.
- 47:26My nieces and nephews back in the day, like, yeah, absolutely.
- 47:28Young cousins for sure. Do you Would you have preferred
- 47:31Douglas to be killed on screen? Are you OK with this?
- 47:34I always want the applications on screen personally, but it's
- 47:38such a nothing character in the end.
- 47:39It's just there to name a name. Name name.
- 47:42Name, so it's fine. What I would have enjoyed a
- 47:45little bit more is we've already seen Chadwell be so.
- 47:49Bad. Like rude and mean spirited and
- 47:51angry that I would like to see the more like humiliating the
- 47:55two earlier I would have liked to see the violent side.
- 47:57Let's say sure, let's see how. Seem in action.
- 48:01Yeah, like cut to him in a dumpster or something.
- 48:05What? Before we exit that scene, one
- 48:07of his workers is getting hitched.
- 48:10Congratulations, she's Italian. This is, again, more verbal
- 48:14stuff. Totally.
- 48:15But, you know, maybe we can teach how to cook.
- 48:17But he's referring to teaching a few things in the sack, Sending
- 48:20him out of town. I'm gonna basically bang your
- 48:22wife. Yeah, over.
- 48:23And you have to share. Yeah, that's a little.
- 48:25Much. Yeah, Obviously that pays off
- 48:27later, but the implication is, yeah, this guy is just a
- 48:29monster, right? He just doesn't care.
- 48:31He wants everything. There's no end insight.
- 48:34Insatiable. That's right.
- 48:35It fits the character and I think the performance.
- 48:37You're like, I buy everything I feel.
- 48:39Those eyes totally Jesus. Jesus.
- 48:42When we go from Chadwell's eyes to Wahlberg's eyes, who's got
- 48:45that upset face all the time? But he's calm.
- 48:48But he says he's calm. We can watch.
- 48:50He's fidgeting. He's got his eyes in a frown.
- 48:53He's just ready to go and Tyrese is saying yo bro, chill.
- 48:56His family's in there, you know. Yeah, come on, take it easy.
- 48:59Cause he just wants to get Jerry.
- 49:00He just wants to have it out. He looked like a cucumber to me.
- 49:06OHP man. But we get now.
- 49:08Cue the exposition cause we have to tie a bow off this sort of
- 49:11bullshit plot line that's already been.
- 49:13Created Yeah, this is the next morning yeah, Jerry has agreed
- 49:16to come over and. Hash it out, I guess He doesn't
- 49:19know. He doesn't know.
- 49:20He just asked for him. He's not been around.
- 49:22Here he's the brother. And he tries to explain I paid
- 49:26her bills. That's very good, Andre. 3000
- 49:30sounds warm like 2500, but. I love him in this movie,
- 49:33actually think he's really good. Yeah, strangely not really good,
- 49:35but I think he's good. Solid.
- 49:37Yeah. More so than I would have
- 49:38expected a guy from Outkast, you know?
- 49:40But yeah, so that sequence where he explains his insurance thing
- 49:45and I paid her bills, it's all good and don't worry.
- 49:47About it, you gotta pay the tolls.
- 49:48That's the 20,000 with Devin. Explains the stuff with sweet.
- 49:52Basically catches everybody up to where we are.
- 49:56And meanwhile, yeah, exactly this meeting is cut short by, I
- 50:00guess, a Door Dash. It's all the thing on tik.
- 50:03T.O.K yeah. As actually resulted in the same
- 50:05thing. Yes.
- 50:06Actually quite the same thing. But don't do it.
- 50:09Don't do it. We have Jack, who, in the midst
- 50:13of all of this, thinks I need to leave.
- 50:16I need to chase after this kid. Yeah, that's the question is why
- 50:19do little too upset too. Upset, too eager to just run
- 50:23out. Especially Jack, because we've
- 50:25established at this point he is the chill, the chiller,
- 50:29childlike, docile young kid. So.
- 50:32Now, when it comes to snowballs. I guess so.
- 50:34The level by which she's aggravated is a little
- 50:38ridiculous and. Ultimately really doesn't pay
- 50:41off well for him now he gets shot.
- 50:43He does in the shoulder produce, specifically shoulder ish.
- 50:47What sort of the issue in there? Did you expect that to happen
- 50:50the first time? Like you, caught off guard.
- 50:52I was completely caught off guard.
- 50:54OK, yeah, tell me more. This is a pretty epic scene when
- 50:57I first watched it because we haven't really had a ton of
- 51:00action. We've had a car chase, but
- 51:02nothing's been intense. No gunfire since the opening,
- 51:04really. Yeah, just random shots in a
- 51:06gymnasium. It's no big deal.
- 51:08Don't. Call the cops.
- 51:09High school Jim. Yeah.
- 51:11Now watching it the 4th, 5th time, it goes on a little long.
- 51:14It's a little lengthy, yeah, so much.
- 51:16They really do a number on that brick wall, like there's a giant
- 51:18hole by the end. It's shot well though.
- 51:21Sure. Like yeah, it's good.
- 51:23Like the directions fine generally.
- 51:25Yeah, and I think Jack's performance as someone who's
- 51:29been shot yelling out for his brother is a really good.
- 51:33Performance. I think so too.
- 51:34Yeah, I was really impressed because he hasn't had a lot to
- 51:37do. Correct.
- 51:38Hey, you're dying now. Give us what you got.
- 51:40Yeah. And he rises above, I think.
- 51:42I agree. I think that ultimately he's
- 51:44bringing something to the table that thus far we have not really
- 51:46seen. Even though I like Andre
- 51:48performance generally, he's not doing this.
- 51:50And this is at least some level of emotion.
- 51:53Emotion and so forth. I also was very surprised in the
- 51:56back of my head, expected that one of them might die.
- 51:59Yeah, just because it makes sense.
- 52:00The type of movie and the scenarios and the scenes that
- 52:03we're kind of building around it's.
- 52:04Destroyed, I was going to say. That I kind of anticipated there
- 52:09would be something, but I didn't really know what for who or even
- 52:12when. So when this happens, you're
- 52:14like, OK. But even then I was still taken
- 52:18by surprise a little bit. So I was impressed by.
- 52:19That I was sad. Did you cry?
- 52:21I probably did like, not like. Mark did it surely in the movie,
- 52:26but I probably got a little wet in the eyes when you cut.
- 52:29Onions even wearing white. Yeah, even in a dream sequence.
- 52:34I'm glad he's dead, though. Wow.
- 52:35Yeah. Because otherwise it's just
- 52:37these four people running roughshod on this entire city.
- 52:39Yep. There's nothing that gets in
- 52:41their way, you know? What compounds that is a a scene
- 52:44where we have Green visiting Fowler now that he knows he's
- 52:48dirty. That's right cause he never fill
- 52:49out the police report. Exactly how do you know they've
- 52:51been there for an hour? Pool room.
- 52:53The queue is a little crooked. What a great way to say I know.
- 52:57Pretty good scene. And him just snapping the queue
- 53:00over him. And then, even more shockingly
- 53:03than Jack's death is how quickly Fowler just shoots them.
- 53:07And he's dead. Totally agree.
- 53:09I was equally as heartbroken cause I love Terrence Howard,
- 53:12sure. And I'm like, he's like the good
- 53:16guy. Sure, he's a good.
- 53:17Cop doing the doing the right things.
- 53:19And it gutted me. Yeah, I didn't feel the emotion
- 53:22side of it, but I definitely was shocked by how abrupt and how
- 53:27little jostling. Just straight up, he's dead.
- 53:30I really like that. The efficiency of that I thought
- 53:32was really. Good.
- 53:32Yeah, it's just coming off so quickly after Jack that I
- 53:35haven't even. Processed.
- 53:37Yeah, I was gonna say suggested, sure, but that works too.
- 53:40Yeah, you haven't looked in a mirror.
- 53:42Yet I tried not to look at a mirror at all.
- 53:43It's for the best test. It is efficient, like you said,
- 53:47because now we can have a dual cemetery scene.
- 53:50That's right, two birds with one stone.
- 53:52Buddy, save some money, save some time.
- 53:54There you go. So effective.
- 54:04What do you think about this plan?
- 54:05Let me tell you, please, when I first watched this movie, I
- 54:09loved the last 15 minutes of this movie.
- 54:11Really. They don't tell us what they're
- 54:13going to. Do no I like the guessing game.
- 54:15I like to be in the dark sometimes, obviously at night,
- 54:18usually just the TV. I'm similar to James Lear.
- 54:21Shut the lights off. Yeah, me too.
- 54:23I'll shower in the dark like my wife is like always turning on
- 54:25the lights. And ironically, she hates when I
- 54:28leave the light on when I'm not using it.
- 54:30Sure, but don't turn it on. I don't need it on.
- 54:32I can cook in the dark. Night vision like a cat.
- 54:34The light is on now only so I can look at my notes, but during
- 54:36the day everything is. Completely off.
- 54:38I hear you, buddy. Yeah, I love the sun.
- 54:40Go figure. You said this throughout the
- 54:42summer. You don't.
- 54:43Really like the sun? Well, sun doesn't like me.
- 54:45There's a difference, buddy. There it is.
- 54:48Anyways, I digress. I still love.
- 54:52It OK, so the breakdown, Tyrese and Sophie, all the things talk
- 54:55to. Me.
- 54:55Yeah, there's more questions, obviously, as I've watched it
- 54:58four or five times, the plausibility of everything, but
- 55:01I think it holds up enough where I can say this is a great way to
- 55:06to cap off this movie. OK, Cap off.
- 55:09Yeah. Gun.
- 55:10Yeah. So this being your first time
- 55:13watching it, we can break it up into a couple sections.
- 55:17We can do the Angel and Fowler, Yeah, side of things.
- 55:21Let's just begin with that. If yeah it had real recruit
- 55:24vibes. I wrote that down, Buckaroo.
- 55:28I didn't much care for it. I did like the plastic bag over
- 55:31his face. Good move.
- 55:32And then talks about how people always go for the belt when they
- 55:35should just go for the plastic. I thought was a clever,
- 55:37interesting thing. Yeah, there we go.
- 55:40But then it feels rushed that we've been building up to this
- 55:44thing and so quickly Fowlers like, yeah, but So what?
- 55:46It's like classic, like, James Bond thing, right?
- 55:48Or whatever. It's so easy to get the
- 55:51confession side of it. Yeah.
- 55:52So what if I did kill your brother on Tuesday?
- 55:55Yeah, sure, that could happen. It's just lucky that it did.
- 55:58Yeah, it just feels a little contrived.
- 55:59It's fine. It's performed well.
- 56:01The I have got a wire thing is pretty you're a cop like you
- 56:04should be checking these things a little bit.
- 56:06What's? Funny is he keeps trying that
- 56:08hair follicle trick and he falls for the fake wire.
- 56:11Oldest trick in the book. They're not even first time ever
- 56:15done. Oh, wow.
- 56:16Yeah, questionable OG. Yeah, you're stats are wrong.
- 56:19My issues with this movie have already pacified.
- 56:21Yeah, right. It doesn't really elevate or to
- 56:24tear it down. Doesn't make sense.
- 56:25It doesn't make it worse. It doesn't actually.
- 56:27I think it is fairly well executed.
- 56:28It just sort of is like, whatever.
- 56:31And then Sophie, I actually kind of thought, oh shit, she's
- 56:33blowing it. Yeah, yeah, that's the whole
- 56:35setup of her character. Really she's just ruining it
- 56:37again, like. Good pay off.
- 56:39But it pays off OK, so I don't mind that.
- 56:42Who's next? Yeah, sweet, sweet, yes.
- 56:45What a interesting, original way to have a final scene on the
- 56:51ice, more or less. Not the final scene of the
- 56:53movie, sure, but the final confrontation bringing down the
- 56:57bad. Guy on the ice you.
- 56:58Mean or just the way out in the ice, way out in the middle of
- 57:00nowhere. I think it's cool.
- 57:03I love it, guys. This is why we like these
- 57:05movies, right? We love the slowness of it, the
- 57:08iciness of it. So this is what we signed up
- 57:10for. Yeah, I love this bit.
- 57:12I like that. Finally, some of the
- 57:15conversation, some of the dialogue, some of the exposition
- 57:18starts to make some sense because Andre with his union
- 57:22thing and the idea that he thinks he's got people with him.
- 57:26So he does, and they all turn on him.
- 57:27All of them, yeah. As an audience, that's not
- 57:30revealed to us before. No.
- 57:31Not at all. Which is the right play?
- 57:33Totally. But is it conceivable?
- 57:35Yeah, I think so. The problem is that all the
- 57:37stuff with Jeremy doesn't Jerry. Jerry.
- 57:40All the stuff with Jerry is so mundane, like the presentation
- 57:44isn't interesting. All that insurance stuff, all
- 57:47that union stuff, all that conversation doesn't really hit,
- 57:51I don't think so that when you get to the end, you have to
- 57:54connect some dots. Oh yeah, He was saying that he
- 57:56was part of the. Before that happened I got 30
- 57:58more than 30 bucks an hour buddy.
- 58:00That's right. So I kind of like that it pays
- 58:02out that way. And why wouldn't you correct
- 58:05divvy up 400,000 a month these guys that you've clearly
- 58:08mistreated. That's right.
- 58:09And that's why you need that scene about the guys wife.
- 58:11Agreed. Agreed.
- 58:12Makes sense that they would turn on this fat ass.
- 58:14Yeah, they would. Absolutely.
- 58:15So I think it's good. The only problem with this whole
- 58:18scene. Don't say it.
- 58:19Is the Wahlberg effect I It doesn't make any fucking sense.
- 58:23You have to agree with that, OK. First of all, I want you to calm
- 58:26down, alright? Give me your calm look.
- 58:28I'm calm, right? That's a long walk.
- 58:31Yeah. From where?
- 58:32Like came from town. From the timing of it, like
- 58:35everything about this. Is the car is just out of the
- 58:38shot? Yeah.
- 58:40I agree it's ludicrous. But the payoff I allow.
- 58:44It the hero shot Wahlberg. Shot.
- 58:46Strutting his way up, I. Think the choice to end it with
- 58:52a fist fight is fresh and just a better way to end it than just
- 58:58shooting. I think certainly by comparison,
- 59:01there's no more bullets left in the city, I don't think.
- 59:03Exactly. Yeah, that's what I.
- 59:04Mean we had the car chase we've had the shootout so yeah let's
- 59:07go bare bones I. Mean the fight wasn't amazing.
- 59:09Couple jabs, hook was a kidney punch, though unfortunately
- 59:13that's against the. Rules it is.
- 59:15They're blocking like Rocky out there.
- 59:18But yeah, overall culmination, it makes some sense, but I
- 59:20wondered if you caught a little Batman Returns action.
- 59:23Here I did not. OK, well it's sweet, of course,
- 59:28being taken to his doom in the ice.
- 59:30Water as the end of the Penguins.
- 59:33Yeah, I didn't tear up at this. One, no, I don't think you did
- 59:37either. No, you're OK with this.
- 59:39But it probably would have ended the movie better than what
- 59:41happens next to me. Yeah, you're talking about the
- 59:44interrogation? Yeah, I suppose that.
- 59:46I mean, more specifically the real ending of the movie, which
- 59:49we'll get to. OK, Yeah, you would add in the
- 59:51movie. Here, basically, yeah, I don't
- 59:54care about the interrogation. There's nothing.
- 59:56Doesn't propel anything forward. It's just the boys being back to
- 59:59being the. Voice.
- 1:00:00Yeah, they never were. Not the boys.
- 1:00:01Yeah, it's just the way the music changes.
- 1:00:04OK? And it's like going back to what
- 1:00:05the things were. OK?
- 1:00:07I like the idea of it. Sure, they'll bang their moms.
- 1:00:10Yeah, that's it I guess. It's like we really are
- 1:00:12brothers. Beautiful, beautiful, but they
- 1:00:15don't wrap it up there either. No.
- 1:00:17Let's fix up the house, buddy. Yeah, need a chance to rebuild.
- 1:00:20The reason this needs to be done, and I'll tell you right
- 1:00:22now, I'll lay it out for you, please.
- 1:00:24Way back during Turkey time, they all had a vision of Ellen
- 1:00:29Mercer except for Wahlberg. Yeah, I don't really understand
- 1:00:32why, but yes, you're. Right.
- 1:00:33Why? This is why you at the very end
- 1:00:35gets to have the last hallucination.
- 1:00:39Being heard, banking it. Yeah, yeah, and has a nice
- 1:00:42moment with the. Kids, I guess.
- 1:00:43Keep it clean. Yeah.
- 1:00:45Tight, tight passes. The real problem I had with the
- 1:00:49scene and why I wish they didn't have it is wifes come out and
- 1:00:54say you're done working. Come on in right?
- 1:00:57It's the dead of winter. It gets dark at 5:00 at this
- 1:01:02point. It's like 1. 3130 you got
- 1:01:04another 3-4 hours of work to do here.
- 1:01:06You got a house to rebuild? Yeah.
- 1:01:08Gonna take some time. You're right.
- 1:01:09That is kind of ludicrous. I also just didn't like, didn't
- 1:01:11enjoy at all the stuff with his mom.
- 1:01:14Did you enjoy that? Exchange the conversation.
- 1:01:16It's a nothing. Burger I want that thing to be
- 1:01:19something, but the lines that are exchanged, not that
- 1:01:22interesting. You're gonna be around?
- 1:01:24I think so. And that face, whatever his face
- 1:01:26is doing in that moment, pisses me off even more than the angry
- 1:01:30face that he does throughout the rest of the movie.
- 1:01:32He just like his calm face. I don't know if I like any of
- 1:01:35his faces, but in particular smirky :) he makes at the end is
- 1:01:39just stupid. I just think like, you don't
- 1:01:41have to have a movie with like a heart punch at the end, right?
- 1:01:44I get it. But this whole movie has been
- 1:01:45about this relationship and I don't feel like it any of this
- 1:01:49relationship between any. Of them, no fellas.
- 1:01:50Flat is last week. Yeah.
- 1:01:52Wow. All right, David, this is it.
- 1:01:55Final thoughts on the movie, Keeping it on the shelf.
- 1:01:58Gonna watch it 10 more times. What's your story?
- 1:02:00OHT definitely staying on the shelf.
- 1:02:02I loved it the first time I watched it, liked it the second
- 1:02:04time, liked the third time, and still like it.
- 1:02:06Now, how many brothers do you want?
- 1:02:08You have one. You want three more.
- 1:02:11Two more anymore. When I want more, I watched this
- 1:02:13movie. OK, these are my brothers.
- 1:02:15I think the movie achieves what it wanted to do from a film
- 1:02:20addict. Like this is what he wants to
- 1:02:21do. Revenge movie, a little bit of
- 1:02:23emotions and it's solid. I think it delivers that.
- 1:02:27Is it an amazing movie? No it's not.
- 1:02:29I recognize that. But I enjoy it and that's why it
- 1:02:33has a place on my shelf. It's certainly not going
- 1:02:35anywhere. I don't think it needs an
- 1:02:36upgrade. Think of a 4K M out.
- 1:02:38Played well for me From a DVD perspective.
- 1:02:42I wouldn't invest in the movie more.
- 1:02:44Gotcha. I probably would watch it again
- 1:02:46in a few years. Like you, you would say it was
- 1:02:49about 10 years between. You would probably say you
- 1:02:51wouldn't wait another 10 to watch.
- 1:02:53It it's hard to say, of course, we'll circle back.
- 1:02:55Yeah, yeah, sure. More importantly, what are your
- 1:02:59final thoughts? I Is it going on you're?
- 1:03:01It's definitely not going on the shelf.
- 1:03:03What if I bring in and hide it somewhere?
- 1:03:05There were parts of the movie that I thought were better than
- 1:03:08I thought they would be. OK.
- 1:03:10And then there were parts where they were as bad as I thought
- 1:03:13they might be because Wahlberg, generally speaking.
- 1:03:16Yeah. And then there were parts that
- 1:03:17were worse than I thought they should be.
- 1:03:19Interesting. And that's kind of how I feel
- 1:03:21about it so much. It just never really hit a tone.
- 1:03:25It felt like it was a little jumbled together a tonally.
- 1:03:28The plot is a little bit iffy. And it started to get too
- 1:03:31convoluted, weird parts of the movie.
- 1:03:33It just was like, why are we stopping to do this or talk
- 1:03:35about this? Wahlberg is a degenerate.
- 1:03:38He's what you expected. Yeah, everybody in the
- 1:03:40supporting cast generally I liked, but the plot in the movie
- 1:03:45itself kind of doesn't do anybody any favors.
- 1:03:47Does a villain. Ohe Chewy.
- 1:03:48Yeah. Would he have you watching this
- 1:03:50movie ever again? Probably not because he's not in
- 1:03:52it enough. If they had done more with him
- 1:03:54and less of the chase sequence with the lower rung and then.
- 1:03:59Just get to him quicker. All the steps, there was just
- 1:04:01not enough scenes. You don't have to go through the
- 1:04:03steps. Though I guess that's how you're
- 1:04:05going to Syracuse movie The hierarchy, but the fact that
- 1:04:08there is such a hierarchy going up to the police officer as well
- 1:04:12for this little old lady feels like that's a much bigger deal
- 1:04:17than I think an old lady would. Be it's a weak plot, I sure like
- 1:04:21last week we didn't have one that's true, and now we have a
- 1:04:23week 1 so. Overall an hour 40 it didn't
- 1:04:26feel bad or having watched it but I will never.
- 1:04:28Watch it again, that's all I need to hear.
- 1:04:29You don't feel? Bad it wasn't like get me to the
- 1:04:32end. I hate every moment of this but
- 1:04:34by the end I was like I never want to see this again.
- 1:04:36Solid 6. This is easily like a maybe a
- 1:04:40403 actually. Probably.
- 1:04:43Oh wow, great. I appreciate your candor.
- 1:04:44Well, I appreciate you, David, and we appreciate the listeners.
- 1:04:47Thank you so much once again for joining us.

- 1:04:56with any brothers. You have sisters too?
- 1:04:58Absolutely. But if you find 4 brothers, let
- 1:05:01them know. They should make a version of
- 1:05:02this like they did with Ghostbusters for Sisters.
- 1:05:05That's right. There might be maybe around the
- 1:05:07corner. There you go.
- 1:05:07Keep an eye out folks.
