- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. And it's Yvonne.
- 0:15And it is a Friday. And it's not only a Friday, it's
- 0:18Friday the 13th. It has felt like the week has
- 0:21gone fast this time, just rolling around and.
- 0:24Friday the 13th I'm not at all superstitious like I'm the anti
- 0:29superstitious person. I will welcome black hats.
- 0:31I will walk under ladders on purpose.
- 0:34Oh, this is true. So bring on today and the
- 0:36glorious things that are going to come, right?
- 0:38This is going to be an excellent day.
- 0:41Fridays are very happy days. 13th or no.
- 0:45And another reason why it's a happy day is we are opening up a
- 0:48fresh chapter of Proverbs. And this is one that
- 0:53surprisingly, halfway through, the chapter stops and there's a
- 0:56heading that says Sayings of the wise, just in case we were
- 1:00wondering what we were doing reading through the Proverbs.
- 1:04Well, we're not up to that today.
- 1:05We get to save that for a few weeks time.
- 1:07Yeah, yeah, very fun. But so today instead, we will
- 1:09just read sayings of the wise, yeah.
- 1:12From the beginning, yeah, Yeah. All right, let's dive in, shall
- 1:16we, friends? Oh Holy Spirit, open up our
- 1:18hearts and teach us your ways and your truth and your
- 1:22character as we read these together.
- 1:26All right, let's dive in reading Proverbs chapter 22 one to
- 1:31seven. Choose a good reputation over
- 1:44riches. Being held in high esteem is
- 1:46better than silver or gold. The rich and poor have this in
- 1:53common. The Lord made them both a.
- 1:58Prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
- 2:02The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
- 2:07True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honour and
- 2:12long life. Corrupt people walk a thorny,
- 2:17treacherous Rd Whoever values life will avoid it.
- 2:23Direct your children onto the right path and when they are
- 2:27older they will not leave it. Just as the rich rule the poor,
- 2:34so the borrower is servant to the lender.
- 2:40And again. Choose a good reputation over
- 2:44great riches. Being held in high esteem is
- 2:48better than silver or gold. The rich and poor have this in
- 2:53common. The Lord made them both.
- 2:58A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
- 3:03The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
- 3:09True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honour and
- 3:14long life. Corrupt people walk a thorny,
- 3:19treacherous Rd Whoever values life will avoid it.
- 3:26Direct your children onto the right path and when they are
- 3:29older they will not leave it. Just as the rich rule the poor,
- 3:35so the borrower is servant to the lender.
- 3:50Well, that second last 1 is often referred to, isn't it?
- 3:53Direct your children onto the right path and when they're
- 3:55older, they won't leave it. Yeah, it's, I've seen it.
- 3:58There's plenty of fridge magnets with that printed on it.
- 4:02Yeah. And I think that the thing that
- 4:05gets us unstuck is particularly ones like that where so many
- 4:10people just wish that for their children, and they claim these
- 4:14as promises of truth rather than observations about the the
- 4:18world. I suppose it's something that we
- 4:22all want and want for our children, but this verse isn't a
- 4:26guarantee. Yeah.
- 4:27It's a call to continued prayer, isn't?
- 4:30It absolutely. And the first two really struck
- 4:33me today that they talk about reputation over riches, and rich
- 4:37or poor doesn't matter. God made everyone just the same.
- 4:41You know, it's this ongoing reminder that it's not about
- 4:44riches, it's not about what we possess, but it's about our
- 4:48character. It's about our motives.
- 4:50And that God is sovereign over all.
- 4:53And yeah, he's made us all. Our Lord, you are indeed
- 5:01sovereign, and you are the God of everything, the God of those
- 5:05who love you and the God of those who ignore you.
- 5:08You are the God of the heavens and the God of the world around
- 5:11us, and you rule supreme and Lord in your rule.
- 5:18You want our hearts transformed and turned to you so that we're
- 5:24not chasing transient things around us, but we are chasing
- 5:30wisdom, which is acknowledgement and love of you.
- 5:34That's where all that wisdom comes from.
- 5:37So Lord, I pray that you continue this work of
- 5:40transformation. And we just thank you that in
- 5:43your incredible sovereignty, you still choose to love us and be
- 5:48present in our daily walk. You are truly beyond our
- 5:53comprehension and close enough for us to touch and to hold
- 5:59close and to be held by. We love you and we are grateful
- 6:03for all that you are for us. And we pray this in the name of
- 6:06Jesus, Amen. Amen.
