- 1:23Instead, you will be peaceful and settled. Join us in this program, Peace is Yours,
- 1:29as Kim Miller of Woman at the Well Ministries takes us through 2 Timothy 1.7,
- 1:34which says, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power,
- 1:40and of love, and of a sound mind.
- 1:42Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries,
- 1:46and I love the scripture.
- 1:47It is a truth and it is a fact it
- 1:50says for god hath not given us the spirit of fear and when you think about all
- 1:55that god has given us and he turns in this is scripture and he says but of power
- 2:01that's power to defeat the devil that's power to defeat the fear which comes
- 2:06from the devil that's power to defeat the enemy.
- 2:10And of love. That power of love and that spirit of love is what enables us to
- 2:18walk day to day with people who don't treat us fairly,
- 2:22to be able to look beyond someone's faults and see their needs.
- 2:27It's that spirit of love that God puts in us that allows us to be his witness
- 2:33in a crowd of people that perhaps, given our own way of thinking.
- 2:39We wouldn't even give the time of day.
- 2:42But when we think about all that God has done for us and the way that we sin
- 2:47against him and the way that we don't heed his promises and the way that we
- 2:52don't heed his commandments and the way that we let ourselves get in the way
- 2:56when God is almighty and all-powerful,
- 2:59yet we somehow think that what we think is best and what we think is the right
- 3:03way, when we think about how God constantly deals with us with love and mercy and grace,
- 3:11then that's easy for us to call upon that Spirit of God in us,
- 3:16that Holy Spirit that dwells in each and every believer, to be able to love those around us.
- 3:22And so when we look at this verse, we're reminded that we are given that spirit of love.
- 3:28And so the way we interact and the way we deal with others and the way we respond
- 3:34to how others treat us should be the way the Spirit of God within us would have us to do.
- 3:42And if we learn to listen to the Holy Spirit who leads us and guides us,
- 3:47as well as comforts us, if we learn to listen to the Holy Spirit.
- 3:53Then we will be able to walk in his ways because clearly he has given us power
- 3:58and a spirit of love, and he's given us a spirit of a sound mind.
- 4:05And I love that because when we look at this scripture, what it tells us is this.
- 4:10We have a way to be peaceful in the midst of the storm.
- 4:15We have a way to think clearly, though chaos surrounds us.
- 4:22We have a way to be able
- 4:24to do what is right in the
- 4:27midst of everyone else doing what is wrong because we
- 4:31have the ability to have a sound mind a mind that thinks clearly a mind that
- 4:37thinks correctly a mind that is peaceful a mind that can rationalize and be
- 4:43able to sift through all that's going around us,
- 4:47but it takes us being yielding to the Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit that is within us.
- 4:54You see, we have all that we need.
- 4:57To live successfully in this world.
- 5:01And to allow God to work through us is the key to being a successful Christian
- 5:09and a successful person in this world.
- 5:12It's the key to being able to be peaceful in the midst of the storm.
- 5:16It's interesting to me when you think about all those anxious feelings,
- 5:22the nervous stomachs, and the stress that we have is coming from the devil.
- 5:29Yet the Bible says greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world.
- 5:33Yet many of us frequently suffer from those things.
- 5:37We say we love the Lord, and I'm as guilty as the next person,
- 5:42because if things don't happen in the timetable that I think they should or I want them to happen,
- 5:48and I have to hold on for any length of time to that faith that God has everything
- 5:54under control when it doesn't seem to me like anything is getting better,
- 5:59then just like you, I find myself fretting and I find myself anxious and perhaps
- 6:07even losing a little sleep or feeling a little nauseous.
- 6:11And none of those feelings matches with the statement that I believe God is in control.
- 6:21None of those feelings has anything to do with what God has given me.
- 6:27And God has given me the power to defeat the devil.
- 6:32God offers me faith if I but take it.
- 6:36God will give me wisdom to know how to hold on while I wait for his hand at work.
- 6:43And I think so often, myself included, we as Christians suffer so much more than we need to.
- 6:55There are sufferings in this world.
- 6:58There are certainly things that happen that are going to be egregious to our hearts.
- 7:03But we should never be stressed
- 7:07about our well-being the bible
- 7:10says that we're to be anxious for nothing but with everything with.
- 7:13Prayer and supplication let our requests be made known
- 7:16unto god and the peace of god the peace of god shall fill our hearts and minds
- 7:21through christ jesus we have peace in christ and as christians we've placed
- 7:27our faith in him But I think sometimes we forget that that counts for the day-to-day stuff,
- 7:34that he's interested in what's happening.
- 7:37He's interested in the conflict you may face at work. He's interested in the
- 7:43conflict you may be having in your family.
- 7:45He's interested in the conflict that you have with your neighbors.
- 7:49He understands and he can see ahead. And our job is to keep the faith.
- 7:55Our job is to be the witness that he would have us to be. Perhaps that's why
- 8:00we're in this situation.
- 8:02Perhaps we're sitting in a situation so that we can glorify God and he can be
- 8:07seen through our actions, through our response, through our faith,
- 8:12through our confidence in him.
- 8:14And without the situation that you're facing, Perhaps he would not be seen by that individual.
- 8:22You see, everything isn't about us, but all things are about him.
- 8:29You see, sometimes we go through things that he might be glorified.
- 8:35And we're so egocentric that we think everything's about us.
- 8:38We either think it's an opportunity for a blessing, or somebody's persecuting
- 8:43us, or something bad is happening, and we're the center of it all.
- 8:48When Jesus said, if I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.
- 8:56And perhaps what we need to do is to take a look at our situations and see where
- 9:02it is that we can lift God up.
- 9:05And maybe the situation that you're in, the conflict at work,
- 9:09the conflict with the neighbor, the conflict in your family,
- 9:12Maybe it isn't even about the people who are in the conflict.
- 9:16Maybe it's the people on the sidelines who are watching.
- 9:20And they're looking at how you, a child of the Most High God,
- 9:25a forgiven and redeemed individual,
- 9:29who has received the ransom of Christ to pay the penalty for your sins, who is forgiven.
- 9:39By the actions of Christ, who is loved beyond measure and who claims to understand that.
- 9:45Maybe they're looking to see how you are living out your faith.
- 9:52And you say, well, I didn't sign up for that. That's not what I want to do.
- 9:56And I'm only human. Yep, you're only human.
- 9:59And so am I. And the Bible says that if we confess our sins,
- 10:03he's faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 10:08But yeah, you signed up because he said, ye are the light of the world.
- 10:15But he didn't ask you to go find your light and then shine it.
- 10:20He put his light in you that you may shine it to others.
- 10:25He didn't ask you to come up with the strength and the courage to live a Christian life.
- 10:32No, he placed the Holy Spirit within you to love you and to comfort you and
- 10:37to guide you and to lead you so that
- 10:39you could live that life that he asks through his power and his might.
- 10:46He didn't ask you to find the way. He said follow because he's the way, the truth, and the life.
- 10:54You see, we have peace in the midst of the storm because we always have Jesus.
- 11:01Jesus is no more valuable or no more powerful on the good days than he is on
- 11:06the days that you're walking through the valley.
- 11:08In fact, I would submit to you, I'd rather have him in the valley than I'd rather
- 11:12have him on the mountains.
- 11:14I need to live a life that is completely submitted to him, where I yield to his will and his way.
- 11:23And then I'm not going to find myself overwhelmed because I'm going to understand
- 11:28that he has all things under control.
- 11:32The Bible says that all things are under his feet.
- 11:35You know that he's in the big things because he created the heavens and the earth.
- 11:40You know that he's in the small things because of
- 11:43all the miles of blood vessels
- 11:46you have in your body so if he's in the big things and he's in the little things
- 11:51he's in all things that concerns me and you and we have peace in knowing that
- 11:58he never wanted us to be fearful but he wanted us to live a life of peace.
- 12:05There is peace in knowing the Lord, but there's true peace in living a true.
- 12:15Walking, working relationship with him, where you talk with him and you walk
- 12:20with him and you read his word and you pray,
- 12:22where you have a relationship that is strong and you're no secret to the prayer
- 12:29room, and his scripture isn't foreign to you, but you're living your life in his will and in his way.
- 12:37And then you won't be overwhelmed, because you understand that anything that
- 12:41isn't of love and peace is not of him, and you just turn it over to him,
- 12:46and he will take care of it.
- 12:48He'll make your burden light, but you have to choose the peace that comes only from him.
