- 1:28So I have a question for you.
- 1:29What if the real secret to influence was
- 1:32not being louder, smarter, or faster, but actually
- 1:36being warmer?
- 1:39Hmm, there's a caveat.
- 1:40Well, welcome everyone to Inspirations for Your Life,
- 1:44where I turn everyday moments into powerful life
- 1:47lessons that help you grow, lead, and connect.
- 1:50Who am I?
- 1:51Sure, I'm John C.
- 1:52Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:56podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, passionate
- 2:00lifelong learner, and yes, so grateful now to
- 2:03be a published author.
- 2:06This is Sunday, as I said, May 24th,
- 2:082026, and I'm exploring one of the underrated
- 2:11forces in life and business.
- 2:13What is it?
- 2:14Warmth.
- 2:15Warmth makes people stay relaxed, trust, and even
- 2:20open up.
- 2:21In a world full of noise, the people
- 2:23who make others feel safe, seen, and valued
- 2:26are the ones who truly leave a mark.
- 2:30So if you're wondering, or you ever wanted
- 2:35a better set of conversations to happen, or
- 2:38maybe even have a stronger relationship and more
- 2:41human spaces, this episode is exactly for you.
- 2:45By the way, guys, this is series five.
- 2:48That means we are on the air in
- 2:49our fifth year.
- 2:50We've been on the air four months, and
- 2:52January, February, March, April, May, four months, four
- 2:55and a half, four years, and five months.
- 2:59It's Sunday, and it's all about understanding what
- 3:02warmth is and this week, we're not just
- 3:05talking about warmth, we're learning how to be
- 3:08it.
- 3:09Yeah, I know.
- 3:10Number one, guys, warmth makes people stay.
- 3:15When people feel welcomed, they naturally want to
- 3:18remain.
- 3:20A warm atmosphere creates a sense of, well,
- 3:22belonging.
- 3:23And I think we all wanna feel like
- 3:26we're part of something, right?
- 3:27I think that's a very important thing for
- 3:30a lot of people to actually understand because
- 3:34that's a key in life, guys.
- 3:36Number two, people relax when the room feels
- 3:40kind.
- 3:42Kindness lowers stress and tension right away.
- 3:45It helps people breathe easier and think more
- 3:49clearly, and it's where all the judgment is
- 3:51basically, well, let's say 86 or removed.
- 3:5686 comes from the restaurant industry where we
- 3:58say we're gonna 86 a sauce or 86
- 4:00a dressing or 86 onions or whatever it
- 4:03just means to remove.
- 4:05Number three, guys, warmth is the invisible social
- 4:09glue.
- 4:10It holds people together in a way that
- 4:12rules and titles can't.
- 4:16It makes connection feel natural instead of forced.
- 4:20Number four, guys, a calm tone builds trust
- 4:24fast.
- 4:25When your voice is steady and kind, people
- 4:28feel safe.
- 4:29Trust often begins with tone before words.
- 4:35Number five, warm people create safer spaces.
- 4:39Safety is not just physical, it is emotional
- 4:41too.
- 4:43Warmth helps others feel protected from any kind
- 4:46of judgment, all right?
- 4:48I think a lot of times people are
- 4:50scared because they don't know how people are
- 4:52gonna open up or what they're gonna say.
- 4:54And I can understand why people may be
- 4:57scared about basically being vulnerable.
- 5:01It's hard sometimes to open up because you
- 5:05don't know if you're gonna be judged or
- 5:07if you're gonna be excluded or exiled, right?
- 5:11Number six, kindness is not weakness.
- 5:14It takes strength to stay gentle in a
- 5:16harsh world.
- 5:18Real kindness shows confidence and control.
- 5:20And I say this phrase a lot to
- 5:22people when I'm doing something to somebody and
- 5:25I feel like they're trying to take advantage
- 5:26of me and I say, don't let my
- 5:33kindness, okay, come out as being a weakness.
- 5:42Don't take my kindness for being weak because
- 5:46I can be strong and I'm choosing to
- 5:49be kind.
- 5:50Don't abuse it.
- 5:51Real kindness shows confidence and control, right?
- 5:57Number seven, the tone in a room matters.
- 5:59People respond to energy before they respond to
- 6:02content.
- 6:05People respond to energy before they respond to
- 6:08content.
- 6:09The atmosphere shapes the conversations.
- 6:13I think a lot of people don't realize
- 6:14that and it's happening subconsciously.
- 6:18It's happening subconsciously.
- 6:22That's an important thing to know, guys.
- 6:26That's a very, very important thing to know,
- 6:31a very important thing to know.
- 6:33Number eight, guys, warmth makes honesty easier.
- 6:36When people feel accepted, they're more willing to
- 6:40tell the truth.
- 6:42Comfort opens the door to real authentic communication.
- 6:47People can just be who they are, not
- 6:49try to be someone else.
- 6:51Number nine, guys, you can feel when a
- 6:53space is cold.
- 6:55Coldness often creates distance without saying a word.
- 6:59People notice when warmth is missing and they
- 7:04either leave or they clam up and don't
- 7:09wanna say anything.
- 7:11So they'll still be polite, right?
- 7:15But they're not going to be more than
- 7:18that, okay?
- 7:20They're gonna be polite and courteous, but they're
- 7:21not gonna go beyond that threshold.
- 7:24And why should they?
- 7:26Number 10, warmth invites conversations.
- 7:30A friendly environment encourages people to speak up.
- 7:36Wow, that's pretty cool.
- 7:38It turns silence into magical rays of connections.
- 7:44Number 11, guys, the right energy lowers walls.
- 7:47People naturally guard themselves when they feel pressure,
- 7:51understandable.
- 7:53Warmth and the energy from being warm helps
- 7:56those defenses soften, helps people have an understanding,
- 8:04a sense of care, a sense of compassion,
- 8:08a sense of community, a sense of understanding.
- 8:13Number 12, people open up when they feel
- 8:16accepted.
- 8:17Acceptance gives others permission to be real.
- 8:21It builds deeper and more meaningful exchanges instead
- 8:26of the cursory things like people ghosting each
- 8:28other.
- 8:29And we're gonna do a whole show on
- 8:30ghosting, don't worry.
- 8:31Number 13, warmth turns strangers into regular people.
- 8:37When people feel good around you, they come
- 8:41back.
- 8:42You see, familiarity often starts with emotional comfort.
- 8:46It does, and that's kind of very special.
- 8:53Number 14, a sincere smile changes the dynamic
- 8:58in our world.
- 8:59A genuine smile can shift the entire mood
- 9:02of a room.
- 9:03It signals, hey, I'm open before words even
- 9:06come out of your mouth or my mouth.
- 9:09The subconscious makes a huge, huge difference.
- 9:14A huge, huge difference.
- 9:17I think that's important to know, guys.
- 9:19Very important to know.
- 9:20Number 15, comfort is a signal.
- 9:23When someone feels comfortable, they're telling you the
- 9:27space works for them.
- 9:29Comfort often leads to trust, trust.
- 9:35Number 16, guys, warmth gives people permission to
- 9:39be real, to be authentic, to be who
- 9:41they really are.
- 9:43No errors about who they are.
- 9:45People do not need perfection to connect.
- 9:49They need a place where they can be
- 9:51themselves.
- 9:52I was having a conversation with somebody the
- 9:53other day, and I think I slipped on
- 9:55a word, and the person had said to
- 9:58me, what did you mean?
- 9:59And they came back, and I was like,
- 10:00oh, I think I meant this.
- 10:01And it was just kind of funny, but
- 10:02it was like not a challenge.
- 10:05It was more like kind of being playful.
- 10:08Number 17, good energy is contagious, if you
- 10:11didn't know that already.
- 10:12Positive energy spreads quickly from person to person.
- 10:16So does negative energy, so we wanna keep
- 10:17it good.
- 10:18One warm person can change the entire dynamic
- 10:21of a room.
- 10:24That's like amazing how that can happen, how
- 10:29somebody's energy, how somebody's space, how you can
- 10:31feel somebody's space by just being a few
- 10:34feet away from you.
- 10:36We learned this, you know where?
- 10:38Horses.
- 10:40Horses.
- 10:41I had a gentleman on the show, I
- 10:43think it was last year, and he was
- 10:45talking about horses can sense your heartbeat from
- 10:51standing near.
- 10:57That's pretty amazing, guys.
- 11:00Any rider can have the experience.
- 11:03They can see something in the distance that
- 11:04will most definitely send your horse in a
- 11:08spiral, be it a deer on the trail,
- 11:11wayward tarp, or the world, let's say, shattering
- 11:14something going on, or maybe an open umbrella
- 11:19that kind of falls in the path.
- 11:21Unbeknownst to you, your heart starts to beat
- 11:23faster.
- 11:23As your brain prepares for the spook, and
- 11:27before your horse even sees the threat, he's
- 11:29tense too.
- 11:31In a situation, we've learned that a deep
- 11:34breath goes a long way, that horses can
- 11:36sense our fear, and by staying calm, our
- 11:40energy will transfer into them.
- 11:42But did you know that there's actual science
- 11:45behind horsemanship?
- 11:47That's what blew me away.
- 11:49Horses have incredible hearing with the ability to
- 11:51hear the heartbeat of a human from four
- 11:54feet away.
- 11:56In the wild, horses will synchronize their heartbeats
- 11:59to the other horses in the herd in
- 12:01order to sense danger more quickly.
- 12:04And recent studies have shown that they use
- 12:06their tactics in domesticated life as well.
- 12:10When horses interact with us, they tend to
- 12:12synchronize to our heartbeats as well, meaning they
- 12:15can sense slight adjustments in our mood.
- 12:18This means when a rider gets on, maybe
- 12:20nervous about something, this inadvertently translates fear into
- 12:25the horse, and anxieties onto the horse.
- 12:27And they pick this up, and guess what?
- 12:29They do respond.
- 12:31They do respond.
- 12:32Number 18, guys, a welcoming space changes posture.
- 12:37People sit differently.
- 12:38When they feel at ease, their bodies often
- 12:41relax before their words do.
- 12:44Maybe you're gonna sit back in the chair.
- 12:46Your arms are spread out.
- 12:48Number 19, people lean in when they feel
- 12:53cared for.
- 12:55Care creates attention.
- 12:57When people feel valued, they naturally engage more
- 13:00deeply.
- 13:02That's a mouthful.
- 13:04Number 20, guys, warmth is memorable.
- 13:06People may forget your exact words, but they
- 13:10will remember how you made them feel forever.
- 13:13That feeling stays with them.
- 13:16Number 21, emotional safety starts right here.
- 13:21Warmth is often the first step toward real
- 13:23safety.
- 13:24It tells people they do not need to
- 13:27hide.
- 13:28They don't have to be fearful.
- 13:30They can be who they are.
- 13:32Number 22, the best groups feel human.
- 13:35Human spaces allow laughter, honesty, and true empathy.
- 13:41Warmth makes groups feel alive instead of mechanical
- 13:45and rigid.
- 13:47That's important.
- 13:49Number 23, guys, warmth reduces performance pressure.
- 13:56People do better when they are not afraid
- 13:59of being judged.
- 14:01I'm sure you can relate to that.
- 14:03A warm environment allows more freedom to coexist.
- 14:10But I think sometimes people get scared because
- 14:14of what happened in the past.
- 14:16Maybe you were at a certain restaurant and
- 14:18maybe things didn't go well because you were
- 14:21with a new friend or even a significant
- 14:23other, and it just went downhill.
- 14:26And so you're fearful to go back to
- 14:29that place or sit at that certain table
- 14:31or maybe even order that food.
- 14:33You know, athletes are like this.
- 14:35They have this special ritual before they'll play
- 14:38the game or a certain old pair of
- 14:41dirty socks because it puts them into their
- 14:45zone.
- 14:47Without it, they feel all discombobulated.
- 14:51And that itself says something.
- 14:54We learned about that horse before.
- 14:55Four feet away, a horse can sense your
- 14:59heartbeat.
- 15:01So I have a question for you.
- 15:04Can humans sense others' heartbeats?
- 15:11And from how far away?
- 15:16Let's dissect that for a moment, okay?
- 15:21Not like horses, okay?
- 15:25Brains can sync.
- 15:28Humans cannot directly sense others' heartbeats, but they
- 15:31can perceive subtle cues.
- 15:33They can perceive subtle cues, okay?
- 15:42They perceive subtle cues.
- 15:46And I think that's an important thing for
- 15:49us to understand.
- 15:52Okay, I think that's an important thing for
- 15:54us to understand that humans cannot directly sense
- 15:58others' heartbeats, but they can perceive the subtle
- 16:01cues related to emotional states and psychological responses,
- 16:04such as the body's language and how it's
- 16:08positioning or the vocal tonality.
- 16:10The ability to detect these cues is influenced
- 16:14by proximity with closer distances allowing for better
- 16:20perception of such signals.
- 16:23So humans do not have the ability directly
- 16:25to sense the heartbeat of others.
- 16:27However, they can pick up on subtle cues,
- 16:29as I said, such as their emotional states
- 16:32and psychological responses.
- 16:34And the ability to detect these cues is
- 16:37influenced by several factors.
- 16:38Proximity, being closer to someone, enhances the ability
- 16:40to perceive their emotional or psychological signals.
- 16:46The context, the environment, and situation can always
- 16:49affect how well these cues are detected.
- 16:52While humans cannot directly sense heartbeats, they can
- 16:55interpret and they can feel the other person's
- 16:59energy.
- 17:02That's very, very powerful, guys.
- 17:05I'm extremely powerful.
- 17:07So energy is everywhere, guys.
- 17:10Energy is everywhere.
- 17:12So if you're getting on a horse, so
- 17:15before I jump to the horse again, I
- 17:17bet a question you're probably asking me, John,
- 17:19is can dogs sense our heartbeat?
- 17:24Can dogs sense our heartbeat as humans?
- 17:27Can they?
- 17:34So dogs can sense human heartbeats due to
- 17:37their superior sense of hearing, which allows them
- 17:40to detect sounds from a distance.
- 17:42They may seem to find comfort in the
- 17:44sound of a heartbeat, often cuddling close to
- 17:47their owners to listen.
- 17:49So they can feel how a human is,
- 17:56even though they may not be able to
- 17:57see them very well.
- 17:58Their sight is not as good as humans,
- 18:00obviously, right?
- 18:02But I think it's interesting to know that
- 18:05when we control our behaviors, it can affect
- 18:09our surroundings.
- 18:10It can affect the people in the environment.
- 18:13That's important.
- 18:15So when we think about our heartbeat, we
- 18:19think about our lives, we think about how
- 18:22I affect my output.
- 18:29I might not be able to directly influence
- 18:31someone, and I shouldn't, but if I change
- 18:33my output, it will directly affect somebody else.
- 18:41Being kind is something that's gonna change everybody.
- 18:46Maybe you have somebody that's being nasty, and
- 18:48you're just suddenly so kind.
- 18:52That's gonna change everything very positively.
- 18:56So if you've ever gotten on a horse
- 18:57before, you're gonna get on one in the
- 18:58future, make sure that you are very aware
- 19:05of that situation.
- 19:07Okay?
- 19:07Make sure you're aware of it.
- 19:09So the gentleman, just get back to my
- 19:11mind here, that was on our show.
- 19:13It was a while ago.
- 19:15His name, it just came to me a
- 19:18minute.
- 19:19His first name was Zach.
- 19:30And when he was on the show and
- 19:34hearing about horses and what he did, that's
- 19:38pretty amazing, okay?
- 19:42And so when you think about this, when
- 19:47you think about how this affects people, right?
- 19:52I think that's a pretty amazing thing, okay?
- 19:57I think it's an amazing thing.
- 20:03And so we heard a lot about horses
- 20:05from him.
- 20:06That was pretty amazing, right?
- 20:10For you guys to remember the show, it
- 20:11was a while back, but it was pretty
- 20:16amazing.
- 20:17So he actually runs a farm, a horse
- 20:21farm.
- 20:22And yeah, we learned a lot about horses
- 20:25from him.
- 20:26So if you're thinking that the horse doesn't
- 20:30know, well, guess what?
- 20:31The horse knows more than you think.
- 20:34The horse can sense your body.
- 20:39So the short tip is, be aware of
- 20:46your body.
- 20:47Be aware of its output because other creatures
- 20:51in nature can sense that.
- 20:53Even people can't, let's say, hear your heart,
- 20:59but they can sense you and your presence.
- 21:04I think that's something that a lot of
- 21:06people don't realize.
- 21:08Number 24, guys, a gentle room produces better
- 21:11conversation.
- 21:12Gentleness invites thoughtfulness and respect.
- 21:15It creates space for deeper exchanges.
- 21:19That's powerful, guys.
- 21:21That's priceless.
- 21:23Kindness scales.
- 21:24Number 25, one kind act can influence many
- 21:27people over time.
- 21:29Warmth grows as it's shared.
- 21:34I love that, guys.
- 21:35Number 26, the right atmosphere does part of
- 21:39the work.
- 21:41Part, not all of it.
- 21:42Environment shapes behavior more than many people realize.
- 21:45A warm setting supports better outcomes, right?
- 21:52Number 27, people return to warmth.
- 21:56We all seek spaces that make us feel
- 21:58good.
- 21:59Warmth creates loyalty without forcing it.
- 22:02It just becomes a natural occurrence.
- 22:05Number 28, guys, number 28, warmth makes connection
- 22:11easier.
- 22:12It removes friction from relationships.
- 22:15People bond faster when they feel comfortable.
- 22:21Number 29, guys, softness can be powerful.
- 22:25Gentle energy can carry great influence.
- 22:31Sometimes, guys, the quietest strength is the most
- 22:38effective one.
- 22:40Remember, I said you don't have to be
- 22:40loud.
- 22:42At number 30, a warm space changes the
- 22:46whole caveat, the whole experience.
- 22:48Warmth transforms ordinary moments into meaningful ones.
- 22:53It turns interaction into connection.
- 22:58It turns interaction into connection.
- 23:04And I think if we pause for a
- 23:07moment and ask ourself, the last time we
- 23:12were in a conversation, were we warm or
- 23:17were we cold?
- 23:19I don't care whether it was platonic or
- 23:21non-platonic.
- 23:22I care that you were a human being
- 23:26to that person.
- 23:27It was something you didn't wanna discuss.
- 23:29Were you kind and warm?
- 23:31You know, Mark, I appreciate that.
- 23:33And this is not something I wanna discuss.
- 23:39It's okay, still warm.
- 23:43And I'm happy to talk about any other
- 23:45area that you could bring up, just not
- 23:47this one, not today.
- 23:49I was kind, respectful.
- 23:53I set a boundary.
- 23:55Setting a boundary does not mean that you
- 23:57are unkind.
- 23:59Setting a boundary is you are basically putting
- 24:02something and expecting respect.
- 24:04You might find your friend or partner that
- 24:07has something and they wanna keep that off
- 24:10the table.
- 24:11That's respect.
- 24:14When people hear boundaries, a lot of times
- 24:16they chase, like, oh my gosh, what am
- 24:17I gonna do?
- 24:18What am I gonna do?
- 24:20But if we look at it from the

- 24:35I am gonna respect this boundary.

- 24:41but I'm not going to expect that or

- 24:47See, that's the difference of warmth.
- 24:51Warmth meets somebody where they are and where

- 24:55You don't have to go higher.
- 24:56You don't have to go lower.

- 25:10You don't have to do much to love
- 25:13your pet, do you?
- 25:15Your pet just naturally comes to you and

- 25:23to try to pet him or her again.
- 25:28But you don't have to do much for
- 25:31that.
- 25:34Of course, you take care of them.
- 25:35You walk them, things like that if you

- 25:50Ladies and gentlemen, today in closing, I wanna
- 25:54say something very, very important.
- 25:57We've been talking about warmth, in case you

- 25:59We weren't talking about the warmth from a

- 26:02We're talking about the warmth from people in

- 26:11Warmth is not, ladies and gentlemen, just a
- 26:14nice idea.
- 26:16It's a powerful way to lead, to communicate,
- 26:24and to build trust.
- 26:27It should not, let me say this again,
- 26:29it should not be rushed.
- 26:30It should not be rushed.
- 26:31It should not be rushed.
- 26:34It should be nurtured at whatever level that
- 26:37you're currently at at the present moment.
- 26:39That's what it's about.
- 26:43That's what it's about.
- 26:44And I think when we start to understand
- 26:47that we're happy at where we are, maybe
- 26:50we want it to go somewhere else, but
- 26:52we're happy where we are right now and
- 26:55we can appreciate and be grateful for the
- 26:58time we have together or the beginning starts
- 27:03of a relationship.
- 27:04That's pretty cool.
- 27:05So ladies and gentlemen, when you choose warmth,
- 27:09okay?
- 27:11You choose connection over distance.
- 27:20And care, ladies and gentlemen, over coldness.
- 27:27Think about that for a moment.

- 27:37back to you like a boomerang.
- 27:40And that is how you create relationships that

- 27:46Don't expect to be an expert at warmth.
