- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Schnook Cedery this episode 579, I'll be your host,
- 0:21Kyle Korn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:26Casey Harvey. Good man, I'm loving this World
- 0:32Series. I'll just come out and say it.
- 0:34Loving this World Series. It's it's going 7 isn't it?
- 0:40Probably. Probably there's punches being
- 0:43thrown back and forth. Got to assume it's got.
- 0:46I mean, there's just so much good, so much good happening.
- 0:53I mean, if nothing else, I'm just I'm thoroughly eating up
- 0:58the Dodger and Blue Jay fans going back and forth saying this
- 1:04series is now over, this series is ours.
- 1:08The amount of Blue Jays fans that I saw in the comments after
- 1:11game one saying that they were headed for a sweep is the
- 1:18numbers more than I would like to admit, given who they're
- 1:22going up against and vice versa. The the amount of Dodgers fans
- 1:27clapping back after Game 2 when just the night before, yeah, got
- 1:36taken out to the shed. So your memory, man, Your
- 1:44memory. Yeah.
- 1:45No, no, I you know, strong, strong response from the
- 1:49Dodgers. But all I'm saying is I'm just
- 1:51eating up the back and forth of of these fan bases that are both
- 1:54just, I think a little delirious at this point.
- 1:58I don't I don't think they entirely know really what's
- 2:01going on. They're just kind of responding
- 2:03to every pitch it seems. But that's that's the beauty of
- 2:06post season baseball and that's the beauty of the World Series.
- 2:09And we are now two games in series is nodded up 1 apiece.
- 2:14Did you think we'd be here? Did you think?
- 2:16I had a feeling Dodgers would take Game 2.
- 2:19OK. So you didn't, you didn't
- 2:21anticipate either team jumping out to A2, nothing lead.
- 2:24No, just didn't feel that way. I don't.
- 2:27I know we talked about like the predictions before, you know,
- 2:32Dodgers taking it. I think we both said 6, didn't
- 2:35we? Yeah, I was leaning 5, but I
- 2:40couldn't, I, I didn't have the, I didn't have the the the
- 2:44internal fortitude to commit to five.
- 2:46Yeah. Which is still, I mean, still a
- 2:51possibility. But yeah, man, it's I their
- 2:58pitching has just been unbelievable.
- 3:01Like the the Dodgers have truly figured it out on the on the
- 3:07mound. And even even this like the
- 3:11struggle with Snell, like it just didn't feel like it was oh,
- 3:17like, here's here's the Dodgers of the regular season.
- 3:20Like here's the pitching performances we're used to
- 3:23seeing. Like, you know, it's they've
- 3:26been well all post season. They've been doing well.
- 3:29So that is a good point. Punches are going to be coming
- 3:32back and forth. That's a good point.
- 3:34That's kind of honestly, it's kind of the way I felt watching
- 3:37Game one where I saw Snell have the, you know, we're watching
- 3:40Snell just sort of crumble and I'm going.
- 3:43Right away to in the stream. Kind of wild.
- 3:46Right away, Yeah, yeah, I just was yeah, struggle with command
- 3:50was not a sharp, but we're you know, we're watching that.
- 3:54Shout out to the people that join us for the stream, by the
- 3:56way, that was great. Had a great time.
- 3:59We like we're watching that and you're you truly felt like it
- 4:05was. I mean, it's it's unfortunate
- 4:07that it had to happen in game one of the World Series, but you
- 4:09truly felt like it was an outlier given how good he's been
- 4:13as of late. And like I said, it's
- 4:16unfortunate it had to happen given the circumstances, you
- 4:18know, for his sake and Dodgers fan's sake.
- 4:20But that's just to your point. Their their pitching has been
- 4:25phenomenal. And when Snell goes out and has
- 4:27that start, it's it was not like a well, I mean, this is kind of
- 4:32what we were expecting. It was like, no, this, the fact
- 4:35that the Blue Jays can not only did he just struggle, the Blue
- 4:38Jays came out and took command and did not look back
- 4:46offensively. And, and I know Game 2 obviously
- 4:48was a little different, but to come out and set the tone that
- 4:51the way that they did in game one at home, that's, I mean,
- 4:57that's every team's dream. The Blue Jays hat like the the
- 5:01whole, you know, offense is contagious thing.
- 5:04Hits are contagious. I don't know if I've seen a run
- 5:09like this in recent memory, You know, where it's just like
- 5:14they're not just putting up two or three and you know what I
- 5:19mean? Like, oh, we gave them an extra
- 5:2190 or, oh, we'd bobbled that potential double play and and
- 5:26gave an extra at bat like, and it's not just a run or two.
- 5:31It's like. Bunches.
- 5:32They pour it on this if, if they get an inch, they are taking
- 5:38absolutely a mile and and going for it.
- 5:41So it's like it's impressive to watch.
- 5:44It really is. And the Dodgers have to be
- 5:49flawless on that side to make sure that doesn't happen.
- 5:56And it's little stuff. And we would, you know, I'm not
- 5:58going to get negative because we always do.
- 6:01But like, you know, we talked about some some lack of baseball
- 6:05IQ plays and some just little, you know, maybe lack of like
- 6:11attention, you know, like focus at times across the league.
- 6:19But you see a couple slip UPS here and there from pretty much
- 6:22every team. And I don't know if there's a
- 6:26team more equipped to punish you the way the Blue Jays punish
- 6:32specifically offensively. That's a bar, my friend.
- 6:36Just relentless. That's a bar.
- 6:38Thanks. Now I'm with you and honestly,
- 6:43I, I knew, I knew the Dodgers were going to respond in game
- 6:47two. You just had to assume that was
- 6:49the case. And, and you heard them talking
- 6:50about it after game one. You heard broadcasters talking
- 6:53about it. There was articles being written
- 6:55about it about how Game 2 was a must win for the Dodgers because
- 6:58you go down. I mean, nobody's I would, I
- 7:03would venture to say majority of people would not be surprised,
- 7:06not just with this series, but with any seven game series.
- 7:09If you're the road team and you go down to games to an on to
- 7:13start a series, like nobody is like, whoa, how does it now if
- 7:16it the roles were reversed? If you're at home and you go
- 7:18down to games an on, obviously that's different.
- 7:21So with that said, I, I, I understood the sentiment that
- 7:28the Dodgers had to win Game 2 just because of how good the
- 7:31Blue Jays offense has been. And so I knew they were going to
- 7:35respond, but I did. I didn't foresee the Blue Jays
- 7:43rolling over might be a little strong, but I, I just thought
- 7:47even though Yamamoto was on the bump, I just thought we were
- 7:49going to get, we were going to see that continued offense pick
- 7:52up right where they left off in game one.
- 7:55But I mean, that just goes I mean, obviously we'll we'll get
- 7:58into Game 2, but that just goes to show how how dominant
- 8:02Yamamoto was, how much that how much that start was needed.
- 8:05The timing of that I don't think could have been better.
- 8:07I think having him follow up Snell's, you know, fart start
- 8:11little stinker there in game one, I think was huge really
- 8:16serving as a stopper in in Game 2 to to turn the turn the ties
- 8:21get things back to LA all evened up, I think was huge.
- 8:25But yeah, I mean take away from these first two games, like I
- 8:32know I already said it, but I this series has all the makings.
- 8:38This series is trending towards going all seven.
- 8:44I I just don't, I don't see any way other any other way around
- 8:48it because with the way that the Blue Jays came out and just put
- 8:53an absolute beat down and I cannot stress enough, it was a
- 8:57beat down. It was what game one was one of
- 9:00those like, OK, call off the dogs kind of games where it's
- 9:04like, and you and I are watching it and we're playing the chain
- 9:06name game in like the 7th inning, which is never a great
- 9:10sign. I mean, it's good for us.
- 9:11Who, who doesn't love a good, you know, chain name game?
- 9:15But the fact that we're doing that in like the bottom of the
- 9:18sixth, the 7th, because things were just so out of hand wasn't
- 9:24wasn't, you know, impressive on the Blue Jays front.
- 9:27However, going back to what I said, the fact that the Dodgers
- 9:30responded the way they did and to do it in such convincing
- 9:34fashion, yeah, I think is just all the evidence you need that
- 9:39this thing is, is probably going 7.
- 9:43Yeah, because they're also really good.
- 9:46It's there's a lot of names showing up, you know, like
- 9:50already you're seeing production from from so many different
- 9:54names and solid ball man. I mean the Addison Barger pinch
- 10:01hit Grand Slam is just sick. First first pinch hit Grand Slam
- 10:10in World Series history. I want to say it was the 3rd in
- 10:15post season history. The first time it's happened in
- 10:19the World Series, which I mean. Good moment, good moment for it.
- 10:23If they go on to win this thing, that's if I'm Madison Barger,
- 10:27I'm talking about that for the rest of my life.
- 10:29Yeah, dude. I mean, honestly, even if they
- 10:31lose it, that's still pretty sick to be able to have that
- 10:34under your belt. But you know, if you're a
- 10:36reason, like if you played that significant of a role to help
- 10:41set the tone in game one, Yeah, I'm I'm most definitely talk
- 10:46about that for the rest of my life.
- 10:47But. That also pinch hit success
- 10:50makes managers just look genius anytime a pinch hit goes well,
- 10:55you know, because they hardly ever go well and especially with
- 10:59like a obvious pop in Addison Borger not starting that game,
- 11:04you know what I mean? And Snell on the mound, like,
- 11:07you know, you can't really blame him, but I think I I think he's
- 11:14probably going to be getting ABS the rest of the series.
- 11:17Like, that's something that carries a lot of confidence the
- 11:21rest of the series, you know? Well, confidence too in knowing
- 11:25that even you know, if if he's not getting the number of ABS
- 11:30that he would hope for, at least if you're Schneider.
- 11:34And again, I know it's just one AB, but that that one AB and and
- 11:38doing what he did with a Grand Slam, that has to give both
- 11:43Schneider that. Well, I mean, that has to give
- 11:45the whole team confidence, especially Barger, that if he
- 11:47steps into the steps into the box in a similar situation later
- 11:50in the series, that recency tells you no problem, I can
- 11:56handle this. I've I've quite literally done
- 11:58this on the grandest stage and it was just a few games ago.
- 12:02So that's got to be huge for for a guy like like Barger and and
- 12:06honestly, anybody else that steps in the box late in a game
- 12:09where it's like, all right, we're we, we, we've done this
- 12:11before. We can handle this.
- 12:13Yeah, Anything else from game one?
- 12:17Anything else sticking out at you?
- 12:21Garbage time Homer from Otani. No joke jokes.
- 12:27Of course we, you know, we love Otani.
- 12:29We, we don't have to go down that, you know, go down that
- 12:32road again, but I don't. Need.
- 12:34I don't need the pitchforks coming out, man I.
- 12:36Did see however and I thought it was kind of crazy.
- 12:43I don't honestly I don't even remember which AB it was from.
- 12:45Was it game? I feel like it was Game 2, but I
- 12:49saw a tweet. I'm just going to have to, you
- 12:52know, put them on blast a little bit.
- 12:54It was from Fox Sports on MLB at at MLB or MLB on Fox, sorry.
- 13:00And it was a clip of Otani swinging and missing.
- 13:07And the tweet was Otani just tried to tie up the game with
- 13:11this swing. And the replies were as you
- 13:17would expected, they said. So we're posting swing and
- 13:20misses now and it goes back to what you said where it's like, I
- 13:25get the frustration with the like this is an example of what
- 13:28we're talking about where it's like does this, if this was in,
- 13:32if this were anybody else, is this getting posted?
- 13:36And that's kind of the things we're talking about.
- 13:38So we're not, we're not hopping camps, but we're just trying to
- 13:42highlight both sides of the argument here where it's like,
- 13:45no, we're talk. We yes, we are talking about one
- 13:48of the greatest players of all time, if not the greatest.
- 13:50When it's all said and done, who's really safe?
- 13:52Not our place. However, on the flip side, if
- 13:55you're posting swing and miss clips real time, that's that.
- 14:02We're going too far. That's the argument and that's
- 14:04like the battle because like what's the in between, right?
- 14:07We talked about like we need we need to expose these guys as
- 14:11much as we can. We need to get individual
- 14:14coverage as much as we can. And then we get this.
- 14:18And I think the problem is social media just ruins it.
- 14:24Like in a way it just, it ruins it because social media, I think
- 14:32there's ways that we look at certain posts as like, would
- 14:37this be like a newspaper headline back in the day?
- 14:40And then if not, don't post it. But if you're on the social
- 14:44media side, as you know, it's like you got to pump out
- 14:47content. And it is polarizing.
- 14:49And it does get people pissed off in the comments.
- 14:52So it's like, yeah, might as well take advantage of that.
- 14:55But what is it doing to like the story of it?
- 14:58And it's it is obnoxious. Well, it's it's unfair to people
- 15:02like show. I mean, sure, his name's getting
- 15:05getting promoted that much more, I guess with every angry, every
- 15:09angry reply that populates. But it's like, that's the kind
- 15:12of crap that I'm talking about where it's like this.
- 15:15This is unfairly pitting him against other people where he he
- 15:21was not even responsible for this.
- 15:22He was the guy at at at the plate for sure, but he's not the
- 15:26one posting clips of himself swinging and missing.
- 15:28So like This is why people are like, I'm over show.
- 15:30Hey, I'm over the GOAT argument. I'm I'm over this, I'm over
- 15:34that, whatever. And it's it's because of
- 15:37nonsense like this. Anyway, some notes from game
- 15:41one, though that wanted to mention.
- 15:44Obviously they've they've played two in the series, but with that
- 15:47game one win it's worth noting that teams to win game one of
- 15:54any best of seven postseason series have gone on to win that
- 15:57series 127 of the 196 times, which is a percentage of 64.8 in
- 16:05series with the current 232 format.
- 16:08Teams winning game one at home have gone on to take that series
- 16:1169 out of 102 times, which is a rate of 67.6%.
- 16:20Pretty good. So pretty great.
- 16:23At the same time, it's like if the Dodgers get game one and and
- 16:31the Blue Jays get Game 2. I don't know what.
- 16:36I don't know why it changes it like it's 11.
- 16:38The series is 11. I don't know why that feels so
- 16:42different than this. You know what I mean?
- 16:47Like, I don't know, I, I feel like if you're the Dodgers,
- 16:52you're like, I, we got to get one.
- 16:54You know, I feel like we're stealing one, right?
- 16:56If we get in there and, and take one of the two, we're stealing
- 16:59one, then you're at home for three.
- 17:02No. And then it's the same thing for
- 17:04the Blue Jays, right? Like going to LA, they're like,
- 17:06we need it, you know, obviously they need one or the otherwise
- 17:09it'd be over. But I it's, it's just, I don't
- 17:14know why it changes the narrative so much, but it does.
- 17:25Look, I get it when when I threw out the OR, you know, when I was
- 17:30I, I, it wasn't my stat. But when I was continuing the
- 17:32conversation regarding the historical context of teams that
- 17:36go all 7, they go the distance and they're LCS going up against
- 17:40the team that swept their way into World Series.
- 17:44People are like, well that's great, but none of those
- 17:47examples featured this Dodgers team.
- 17:49None of those teams had Otani. It's like, I get that.
- 17:53And that the same thing goes for the the stats.
- 17:55I just read off about the teams winning the first game of a best
- 17:59of seven series in the post season.
- 18:01I get it. That data is all things
- 18:05considered, irrelevant to this point in time to this particular
- 18:10matchup. However, historical context
- 18:14matters. Yeah.
- 18:16And like we like the example we brought up last time, the whole,
- 18:20if a team goes up three games to none, there's historical context
- 18:24there. And it it very strong, very much
- 18:29strongly favors one side versus the other.
- 18:32So it's like, it's not, it's not going to tell the full story.
- 18:34It can't, it can't accurately predict what's going to happen.
- 18:37But it is relevant because you know, there are trends in this
- 18:41game, There's trends in everything.
- 18:42There's, you know, there's ebbs, there's flows, there's
- 18:46likelihoods, there's percentages.
- 18:47We love stats as a sport. So that's all we're doing.
- 18:52Like when, when, whenever we're bringing up this, you know,
- 18:55this, this historical context, that's all we're doing.
- 18:58We're not trying to like predict what's going to happen.
- 19:00And we're, and we're certainly not looking at it through the
- 19:03lens of well, but how does Otani impact this?
- 19:06It's like, no, we're just giving you the percentages and and the
- 19:09odds of what's happened in this game leading up to this point
- 19:13and let the chips follow the same mate.
- 19:15That's all we're doing. My last note on game one was
- 19:23Emmett Sheehan coming in for Blake's Now and I think it that
- 19:30point, what was the score at that point?
- 19:32It wasn't horrendous. Was it Sheehan and then Anthony
- 19:38Banda? Yeah, because Sheehan did
- 19:43nothing. No disrespect but well, I'm
- 19:49trying to remember what the score was because it felt like.
- 19:53Banda gave up the two homers. Yeah, it just felt like, let's
- 20:02see. So Snell gave up five, but he
- 20:07was responsible for at least one.
- 20:10On base when she and came on, if not 2 she and only got one out,
- 20:18gave up two hits a walk 3 and runs it.
- 20:25I don't know why. I mean, the game at that point
- 20:27was, I don't know, maybe 44252 somewhere in that range, but it
- 20:42just felt like Dave Roberts just like punted in a way.
- 20:47It just it gave that I like I it's just an interesting because
- 20:52if you get out of that jam and it's 4/2 or 5/2 like that game
- 20:57still very much within reach. And I don't know, I mean, I
- 21:01don't know, that's just me kind of viewing it as an outsider.
- 21:04I don't, I don't think Emmett Sheehan is bad by any means, but
- 21:09like I haven't seen him being like, let's get out of the jam
- 21:14here. I don't know.
- 21:15It's early enough in the game too, you know where it's just
- 21:18like it. There's still enough outs to
- 21:20work with. Yeah, let's.
- 21:22Try to get out of this, but it felt a little punty to me.
- 21:26And it one I I know Dave Roberts likes using Vessio later in
- 21:32games and I know he's obviously dealing with that personal
- 21:35matter, but it and I even asked you on the stream.
- 21:37I was like, would this have been maybe it wasn't as late?
- 21:41Yeah, of a situation as he would normally come in, but it was
- 21:44high ish enough. I mean, they're down.
- 21:46So I mean it's you know, it's urgent for them either way, But
- 21:51it makes me wonder if, like he was with the team was that would
- 21:53that have been an instance where Bessie would have come in?
- 21:55I don't, I don't know. I don't know either, but I mean,
- 21:57you're talking game one, you're talking a fresh bullpen like
- 22:00it's, you know, everyone's available.
- 22:02You can press whatever button you want.
- 22:04It was just interesting to see that the Emmett Sheehan button
- 22:08was pressed in a game still within striking distance,
- 22:14especially with your lineup. Yeah, I would agree.
- 22:17However, the following night, Dave Roberts need not worry
- 22:22about pressing any buttons because Yoshinobu Yamamoto with
- 22:30his 2nd consecutive CG. That's gangster dude.
- 22:35That's so. That's all.
- 22:37It's cool. So sick that.
- 22:41That's unreal is what that is unreal to go 9 in the NLCS and
- 22:51then have a little bit of a breather because obviously your
- 22:54team sweeps their way through and then be like, thanks, this
- 23:00rest really benefited me. I can go out and help the
- 23:03bullpen yet again. Let me go all nine yet again.
- 23:09That's such a gangster thing like that.
- 23:11And going back to what I said earlier about the timing of
- 23:14Yamamoto start could not have worked out better for the
- 23:16Dodgers. Like if he's going to give you
- 23:18that, sure. I mean, sure, it's one thing to
- 23:20if he if he kicks off the the World Series with that start and
- 23:24go, wow, what a what a way to set the tone.
- 23:26However, it's my humble opinion that if you're going to get that
- 23:32either way, you know, if you're looking at it in a vacuum and
- 23:34it's like, OK, kind of rubbing the the crystal ball here,
- 23:39looking into the future, Yamamoto is going to give you
- 23:42another CG. Would you rather have it set the
- 23:46tone for you in game one and then you all get the doors blown
- 23:49off you in Game 2? Or would you rather drop game
- 23:53one in a on the road in a situation where people probably
- 23:57think the Blue Jays were going to come out swinging anyway and
- 24:00then have them go in Game 2 and put a stop to it, set the
- 24:05momentum in the right direction, head back home to LA for game
- 24:09three. To my humble opinion, I'm taking
- 24:12that in Game 2 because like who and and like it, it goes back to
- 24:17what you said. It's you kind of throw those
- 24:20weird like, well, who wins game one?
- 24:22What did they go on to do? You kind of throw those
- 24:24percentages out the window because at the end of the day,
- 24:27the series is tied 11. It didn't really matter, but who
- 24:30do you feel better about right now?
- 24:33I would probably say most people would say the Dodgers just
- 24:36because we're going off a game two in the way in the way that
- 24:38they they want it on the mound with Yamamoto.
- 24:41So I I think there's a lot to be said, especially for today being
- 24:45an off day as well. You kind of you're sitting with
- 24:48that for another day. The Dodgers are kind of resting
- 24:50on their, you know, resting on their accomplishments from Game
- 24:532. Vibes are still good today.
- 24:55Blue Jays have to sit in that. That's just me.
- 24:59I'll play a little devil's advocate with the Yamamoto thing
- 25:03in in say for those relievers that didn't pitch for the
- 25:08Dodgers in game one obviously weren't used in Game 2 either.
- 25:15Plus travel day, We're talking 8, what, 8 days?
- 25:23Nine days since they last pitched.
- 25:25Well, I mean, they're getting. There, that's interesting too.
- 25:28They're getting their mound days you would have to imagine like
- 25:32staying at least a little fresh. But to your point.
- 25:35Just I, I wouldn't be surprised, right?
- 25:38And that is something that has been one of those Achilles heels
- 25:43that like you're like, when, when is the when is it going to
- 25:46rear its ugly head, right? Like when is is the bullpen for
- 25:50the Dodgers has been spotty throughout the year.
- 25:53So it's just interesting to see, hey, is this extra, extra, extra
- 25:59rest going to be a positive thing or is there going to be
- 26:03Rust involved? I don't know.
- 26:09If I'm the Dodgers, not that you asked me, but I'm just going to
- 26:13give you my my answer, Go. Ahead, Dave answer the question
- 26:16that. Question if I'm the Dodgers, I'm
- 26:23just holding my nose this whole series and just hoping that I
- 26:27have to go to the pen as little as possible.
- 26:29Yeah. Not that you're not that you're
- 26:31getting ACG every time, but I'm I'm just letting it eat with my
- 26:37starters and just kind of forget about the fact that my my pen
- 26:42hasn't gotten maybe the innings that would benefit them.
- 26:45And just hope that you can figure out a way to bludgeon the
- 26:48Jays and not have to worry about it, because I I that is a risk I
- 26:53would not be willing to take. That pen has looked downright
- 26:57awful at times. Yeah, it can.
- 26:59So I'm just, I'm, I'm riding it out.
- 27:04You got glass outgoing Game 3. And Speaking of which, today's
- 27:09the 20. 26th And people be hearing this on the 27th, yeah.
- 27:17And Game 3 is on the 27th. 27th Monday, yeah.
- 27:22It's 11 days since Glass now last pitched.
- 27:29It's just interesting and and it is what it is.
- 27:33I'm not trying to like build in excuses.
- 27:35I'm not trying to say that like, oh, it's going to be bad, but it
- 27:40is it, it's very anti 98% of our season.
- 27:47You know what I mean? And that's why things are so
- 27:50different because like you don't play festive sevens throughout
- 27:54the year. You don't have random travel
- 27:57days in the middle of the series.
- 27:59You like, this is just, it's so different.
- 28:03It's so different. And I'm just curious to see like
- 28:06how it goes, which way does it go?
- 28:09And there's I, I don't know why I feel like there's specifically
- 28:14with like Japanese pitchers, there's an advantage with extra
- 28:19rest. I think it's because they go
- 28:22every 6th day instead of every fifth over there for most of
- 28:25their career. And like, I think there's just
- 28:27something about maybe their routine that helps them with
- 28:33that extra rest. Obviously we saw extra rest with
- 28:35Yamamoto. It came out throwing great like,
- 28:40but then you talk about some of the other guys like Glass now or
- 28:42or any other name like Snell in game one that had extra time
- 28:46like how does it affect them? That is a part of the equation.
- 28:51It is. So we'll see.
- 28:56I mean, best case from glass now you're probably getting best
- 29:02case in a World Series game, you're getting five.
- 29:07I was going to say 6 like absolute best case so.
- 29:15And you're and you're talking about like a a Blue Jays team
- 29:18that hits the fastball. They hit the fastball and we can
- 29:24see glass now get a little erratic at times too much like
- 29:27snow. So that's a team that you don't
- 29:32want a lot of ducks on the pond too often with on the other
- 29:37side. Sure's are going game three.
- 29:40Talk about a guy that I think would be the most equipped going
- 29:44into hostile environment. It's the first game in that
- 29:48hostile environment to be able to just kind of 0 in and and
- 29:55shut out the crowd in a way. Can we talk about that?
- 29:58I'm glad you brought that up. I know we've had more in depth
- 30:04conversations about post season atmospheres before and I know at
- 30:09times we've touched on Dodger Stadium and, and the running
- 30:13joke of, well, half the park is still sitting in traffic by
- 30:16first pitch. I I get all that not necessarily
- 30:21saying that's going to be the case for the World Series, but
- 30:25it is on a Monday. So I mean, do with that
- 30:28information what you will, but is it just me and.
- 30:36We're getting robbed a little bit with the, with the only
- 30:39having weekday games. That's interesting.
- 30:42That is a factor. No doubt, no doubt.
- 30:44But when it comes to post season atmospheres, are we really
- 30:48chalking up Dodger Stadium as a hostile environment?
- 30:53And I like I, I, I understand where you're coming from with
- 30:59your point as it relates to Scherzer being the first guy to
- 31:03go on the road. I get that.
- 31:04But when you look at it a little more closely, are we, I mean,
- 31:08like, how, how concerned are we about a Jays team who imagines
- 31:16being? Able to hostile isn't
- 31:18necessarily the best word for it, but hard to imagine brighter
- 31:25lights. Sure, sure.
- 31:28Like, and those are two different arguments because I
- 31:30get what you're saying. Like hostility is more so
- 31:34fandom, which I think they're more hostile towards the
- 31:41opposing fans than the opposing team.
- 31:43And even each other, right? So in certain pockets of the
- 31:47outfield. But as far as as bright lights,
- 31:50I mean, there's I don't, I don't know if if these guys lock in or
- 31:55pay attention, but like you're no disrespect.
- 31:58Outside of Drake sitting in a suite, there's not a ton of
- 32:01celebrities sitting at the Rogers Center.
- 32:03But in LA so. Forced, by the way.
- 32:05Like, come on, man. Did you see it real quick?
- 32:08Did you see the video of him and his crew when the Jays punched
- 32:12their ticket to the World Series?
- 32:15It's like, hold on, hold on. No, I got to you keep you get
- 32:20you keep going. I I got to I got to find this,
- 32:22this you talk about a forced fabricated, you know, movement
- 32:30here down the stretch for the Jays.
- 32:32I if I were the Jays, I would disown this guy so fast.
- 32:36Not, not, not from like the Canadian side of things, but
- 32:40just this like you stop you. You're not right with us.
- 32:44Who? Who?
- 32:44You yeah, it it, I get what you're saying, but I, I think
- 32:49it's more so just the the brightest stage, the brightest
- 32:53lights, right? Like you're and, and again,
- 32:56like, I don't know if certain players pay attention.
- 33:00I just think of like of the players that you would guess to
- 33:05be able to shut that stuff out. It's Max Scherzer, former Dodger
- 33:13as well, by the way. But you're looking around and
- 33:17that backstop's wide open, right?
- 33:18It's just net. And it's like the people were
- 33:21like that front row is almost like eye level with the dirt
- 33:23because it's kind of sunken down, which is really cool, by
- 33:26the way. I think.
- 33:26I don't know why more teams in stadiums.
- 33:29Yeah, big fan of that. Big fan of that.
- 33:32But you mean there's people. It's a who's who everywhere and
- 33:38it is peak LA Dodger time right now.
- 33:42They are the big bad Dodgers. It's just, it's just some
- 33:47something to pay attention to, that's all.
- 33:49Something to I think is a factor.
- 33:55There we go, there's a video. All right, let me let me pop
- 33:58this in. This is this is just too good.
- 34:03I'm like, who? What it he's calling it like the
- 34:05big dance or something. I'm like, Drake, what do you
- 34:09what do you talk about? This is this is Drake and his
- 34:11crew in game game seven of the ALCS.
- 34:15One strike away, one strike away.
- 34:20What do you mean we're here? It's already written.
- 34:23We're going to the big show. The big Show, get the boys, get
- 34:27the boys a pizza and some Cokes. We're going to the big show.
- 34:38Get the boys some pizzas and Cokes.
- 34:43We're going to the big show. We're going to the big show.
- 34:48Like shut up, dude. Unbelievable.
- 34:57No, but you're right. No disrespect.
- 34:58Not many, not many celebs walk in the Concours.
- 35:03You're the sweet, sweet level at Roger Center.
- 35:06But so I so that's a valid point.
- 35:08That's valid point. Brights are definitely lighter
- 35:10right the. There it is.
- 35:12The lights are definitely brighter.
- 35:14Brights are lighter as well. The.
- 35:15Brights are lighter, no doubt. But I, I mean, I'm a sucker for
- 35:20it. I'm always a sucker for it.
- 35:22Like when I'm watching the game and they kind of start panning
- 35:25around and they throw that little name tag up when they
- 35:27find somebody in the crowd. Oh, yeah, You're like, yeah, I
- 35:30eat that up, man. That's what's cool.
- 35:32And just as a baseball fan doesn't have a dog in the fight,
- 35:36like I love that aspect of what the Dodgers are doing right now,
- 35:41you know what I mean? Like they're bringing in people
- 35:44that. Why is Guy Fieri?
- 35:46Here, yeah dude, but I don't know Diners, Dragons and Dives.
- 35:50King needs to be at the stadium right now and I'm in.
- 35:54So oh man. Yeah, you're going to see.
- 35:58You're going to see Rob Lowe. You're going to see Matt
- 36:00Stafford in a backwards hat. Unless the Rams play tomorrow.
- 36:03I don't know, did they play today?
- 36:08Maybe they're not a buy, but you're going to see people.
- 36:12Like I just typed in, I just typed in celebrities at Dodgers
- 36:16games. We've seen what's his name?
- 36:19Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston. That his name?
- 36:23Yeah, yeah. Lil Wayne, Rob Lowe, Jimmy
- 36:28Kimmel, Kobe. Kobe Bryant, obviously.
- 36:33It's Jimmy Kimmel, yeah. It's like, what's?
- 36:41It's like, why are they? Why are all the Kardashians?
- 36:42Oh, I was thinking. I was thinking Jimmy Fallon.
- 36:44I'm sorry, 'cause I know Jimmy Fallon's a Yankee fan.
- 36:47Yeah, guy stinks, except in Fever pitch.
- 36:50Great film. It's like, it's like the
- 36:53Kardashians don't know anything about baseball.
- 36:55Why are they here? Like, oh, I didn't know John
- 36:59Legend was a big baseball guy. This is this is this is the
- 37:04experience when you're watching Dodger games.
- 37:05It's crazy. Oh, Speaking of celebrities, I
- 37:11didn't, I, I, I don't want to go into this.
- 37:17I I don't want people to hear this as me being against
- 37:24movements that inspire, that inspire action against finding
- 37:30cures for cancer, however. That's where I thought you were
- 37:33going. However, what are we doing
- 37:38having a Jonas Brothers halftime show in the middle of a game of
- 37:43a World Series game? Yeah.
- 37:47Shame, I mean, have some shame, have some shame.
- 37:56I mean, look, you want to take it a step further and I, I'll,
- 38:01I'll, I'll gladly say this, I'll proudly say this it and I would
- 38:05venture to say most people would agree with me.
- 38:06And if there's any like bootlickers out there, take a
- 38:10seat for this one because this is, this is not your time to
- 38:13talk. This is my time.
- 38:15Sit down, bootlicker. The MasterCard thing needs to
- 38:20chill if we're going to do this. And look, the people are on the
- 38:25fence about the stand up to cancer thing anyway.
- 38:27They're like, it's just feels like virtue signaling.
- 38:29It feels forced. It feels kind of awkward.
- 38:32I'm I, you know, we experienced it at the All Star game in
- 38:36Atlanta. You know, it's a powerful thing,
- 38:38like when you're in the park. I'm sure it's it.
- 38:41Well, I know for a fact it's it's a different experience when
- 38:43you're at home versus in the park.
- 38:46It's it to me, it's, you know, there's a lot more, lot more
- 38:49power in the moment when you're in there experiencing it.
- 38:51You're seeing all these people with, you know, signs written
- 38:54with names of loved ones and all that.
- 38:56Totally understand. So I'm not going to sit here and
- 38:58RIP it. It's the MasterCard thing.
- 39:02We got like. Everything has to be sponsored.
- 39:07It's not even everything has to be sponsored.
- 39:10It's this, it's this thing in particular where I'm like, like,
- 39:13if you go back and listen to the audio, it's like, and so our
- 39:17friends from MasterCard have teamed up with Major League
- 39:20Baseball to present MasterCard, Stand Up to Cancer, presented by
- 39:25MasterCard, Take it away, friends from MasterCard.
- 39:29It's like, OK, is this a, is this a motion?
- 39:32Is this a movement to, you know, come together as, you know,
- 39:38unify as baseball fans to be like, hey, let's just take a
- 39:41moment. Remember that there are things
- 39:43more important in baseball and really just, you know, set in
- 39:48this moment to be in this moment together.
- 39:51Or is this just one giant huge commercial for MasterCard?
- 39:55Yeah, it's a good point. It's a good argument.
- 39:58And I know that it it's been it's been around for some time.
- 40:01So it's not, it's not like this is new, but it going back to my
- 40:03original point of why I brought this up, inserting the Jonas
- 40:06Brothers concert in there. What are we doing?
- 40:11What are we doing? There's parts of it, just it's
- 40:16not baseball. It doesn't feel.
- 40:18Like it's so it's like just play the game and I know there's
- 40:24going to be those weirdos out there that are like, no, I loved
- 40:28it. It was great.
- 40:29I love the Jonas Brothers. It's like, OK, I don't
- 40:32particularly love the Jonas Brothers either, but if it was
- 40:34an artist that I enjoyed, I would I would prefer them in
- 40:38just another context, like, I don't know, maybe a concert and
- 40:42not a halftime show at a baseball game.
- 40:44It's just. Just last year, too, right?
- 40:47Like the Dodgers came out with Ice Cube, and I thought it was
- 40:51strange, but everyone loved it because he did well.
- 40:54And then the Yankees scrambled to find somebody and Fat Joe.
- 40:58Just fat. Joe.
- 40:59Freaking grenade dude. Just a dead dud performance and
- 41:04everyone's just like this is so stupid and I hate the precedent
- 41:10that's being set on like stop it.
- 41:13Doesn't need this, but even the ice cube thing, it's like it's,
- 41:16it's like pregame, it's kind of kicking things off like
- 41:19whatever. If you're if you just want to
- 41:20lump it in there with like the national anthem, so on and so
- 41:22forth, whatever. But to literally to just, we're
- 41:26going to cut to right field in the middle of the 5th and 6th
- 41:30innings or 6th and 7th innings and we're going to kick it off
- 41:35to the Jonas Brothers. Presented by MasterCard, A song
- 41:42dedicated to those standing up to cancer.
- 41:45Presented by MasterCard. It's like, I don't know, that's,
- 41:49that's right. Brothers new release, new hit
- 41:52song MasterCard. That's that's where I can get on
- 41:57board with the people being like this is nothing more than virtue
- 42:00signaling. Like that's where I can get on
- 42:01board with, with, with, with that crew.
- 42:03But otherwise, you know, I'm not, I don't want to make more
- 42:07of a fuss than I already have about it, but I I just hope
- 42:09there's more people out there that would agree with that
- 42:12sentiment that that was just a bit ridiculous and we'd we need
- 42:15not do that again. Thanks.
- 42:19Thanks, but no thanks. I don't know what it is about
- 42:25Ken Rosenthal's face during the Stand up to Cancer thing that
- 42:28bugs me the most. Yeah.
- 42:30Was the. Awkwardly staring.
- 42:34Was the the video or the photo guy that he bumped into back in
- 42:39Milwaukee? Was that the same guy that was
- 42:42holding the camera filming him for the stand up to cancer thing
- 42:45because he was giving the same look?
- 42:48Yeah, it's, that's what I'm saying.
- 42:50The look is always weird. You're like, he's like pissed.
- 42:55Like what did I do to you, Ken? Strange, strange.
- 43:00Silly man. Silly.
- 43:05But anyway, what else we got? Oh, another thing I wanted to
- 43:10get your thoughts on. I sent you the video because you
- 43:13can you explain again what happened for Game 2?
- 43:15Like you weren't able to get the video so you had.
- 43:19To I don't go strictly audio, I was going I was on my phone for
- 43:24a bit. We were we had known to my
- 43:26parents for dinner for my sister's birthday and I don't
- 43:31they it's like only like once or twice a year where I'm I go over
- 43:36there and I'm like, guys, I got to throw a game on.
- 43:39Like I'm sorry, I'm not going to sit here and watch, but like I
- 43:41at least have to have it on. And so I logged into my YouTube
- 43:46TV app and like the menu comes up for YouTube TV.
- 43:50Everything's working with the audio, but it's just black
- 43:52screen. You can pause it.
- 43:54You see the bar, but black screen change of channel, same
- 43:58thing. So I'm like having to like
- 44:00uninstall the app, reinstall the app.
- 44:03So I, I, I managed to get it back on in the 9th, I'm thinking
- 44:08the top of the ninth. And I was like, oh, all right,
- 44:10well, it's we're basically done here.
- 44:13Dude, you missed the Jonas Brothers concert.
- 44:15I did that was during that that was during that debacle.
- 44:19So I obviously watched the insanity in in in clips and
- 44:25highlights but. Well, OK, well, that's that's
- 44:29that makes sense because I sent you the video that I was I
- 44:32wanted to get your thoughts on of the Alejandro Kirk knee down
- 44:35situation. Yeah, come on.
- 44:39Strange like you got to be better hustle thing.
- 44:44I no, it wasn't the hustle. It was the.
- 44:46IT was the. IT was the receiving of watch.
- 44:50It again, I think it that was Freddie up, right?
- 44:55Yeah, top of the 8th. It's a two run game.
- 44:58So again, I think. It hit him, I think it hit
- 45:01Freddie. It didn't.
- 45:04Kurt goes to back end and it doesn't clank.
- 45:07It shows the side view, the profile side view, and it
- 45:11doesn't even get to Kirk and it goes that way.
- 45:13Skipped. Honestly, it might have just hit
- 45:15him on the foot toe, yeah. If you watch it again, I think
- 45:20it absolutely hit Freddie's toe, which would have been a dead
- 45:23ball, by the way. Sure, but bigger picture though,
- 45:26the reason I sent that to you is as the catching fan that you
- 45:29are. It sucks.
- 45:32We got to like you got to be better about being a defensive
- 45:41catcher with the runner on. I don't I'll die on this hill.
- 45:48I don't. I just, I can't see how stealing
- 45:52strikes in, specifically in those runners in scoring
- 45:57position moments, is considered more valuable than letting said
- 46:01runner score on a wild pitcher pass ball.
- 46:07It just doesn't make sense to me.
- 46:11There's so many free bases given up in baseball and it's very
- 46:17much very commonly attributed to this new I have to steal strikes
- 46:24all the time type baseball. I don't.
- 46:28It's, it's if you can't, the like the new philosophy with
- 46:33catching is like that's the only way to steal strikes.
- 46:36It's like you can still receive the ball well if you're in a
- 46:41more agile position. But anyway, I, I didn't want to,
- 46:45I didn't mean to make it like a whole gripe, but I, it was just
- 46:47a note from late in the game where I felt like the game was
- 46:50still in reach or still within reach.
- 46:53And you got Kirk back there just kicking the ball around or
- 46:55whatever, not receiving it, you know, as a catcher should with
- 46:58the runner on 3rd, which I thought was like a low key kind
- 47:02of pivotal moment there that I didn't feel like maybe got the
- 47:05attention that I thought it deserved.
- 47:07But. Cuz then it was wasn't a SAC fly
- 47:12after that or a knock that other runner scored didn't he?
- 47:20Someone moved up. Runner scored, but also someone
- 47:22moved. Up because the bases were loaded
- 47:25and I think in this instance right so runs scored, they move
- 47:28up I think and then yeah, it was AI think it's a.
- 47:31SAC fly and then a single. I think it was a Will Smith
- 47:36single. After that.
- 47:38I don't remember what Freddie did.
- 47:39I don't. Know what ended It ended up
- 47:41being 5 ones so the only two runs would have scored at that
- 47:43point because it was 31 but maybe.
- 47:45Freddie got out. I don't remember, but whatever.
- 47:48Silly. You can't all, you know, take
- 47:52away here. You can't in in, especially in
- 47:54the World Series, but especially with these two teams.
- 47:58They both have ways of making you pay and you can't make
- 48:01stupid mistakes because you're not going to get away with them.
- 48:06Correct, correct. It doesn't matter though,
- 48:13because it's still going 7, which was my point at the very
- 48:15beginning, so I still stand by that.
- 48:17So they can play all the stupid baseball they want.
- 48:19It's going 7 and I stand by that only based on what I've seen
- 48:26from these first few games. Going into it I said 6 but now
- 48:29I'm I'm. Fully bought into I got I got a
- 48:32friend's birthday party thing surprise thing on Saturday so
- 48:36I'm hoping hoping 6 what's in this thing on Halloween?
- 48:41You're going to be live streaming from the Surprise
- 48:46Party, I hope you know that. Yeah.
- 48:51Just have the phone on in your pocket you don't even have.
- 48:54Games Game seven, yeah. Just be on on the screen.
- 48:58It lines up for Saturday, doesn't it?
- 49:00Yeah, that'd be game seven. Game six will be Halloween.
- 49:04Halloweeny cool. Any other thoughts?
- 49:15I wouldn't be surprised to see Rokie Sasaki for multiple
- 49:18innings in Game 3. Don't know in what capacity.
- 49:26You didn't by chance see the picture our our guy friend of
- 49:29the pod Dodgers team photographer John SU who got of
- 49:33Yamamoto and Sasaki after Game 2, Did you?
- 49:36It's literally Sasaki, and I think there's like a couple
- 49:39other guys in the clubhouse like bowing down.
- 49:42They're literally on the floor like bowing down to Yamamoto.
- 49:45After game two I was like what a moment, what a moment.
- 49:49That's so cool. But yeah, no, I'm with you that
- 49:53I could. I could see it happening.
- 49:56Yeah. Could see it happening.
- 49:58Any other predictions for for these next next couple games?
- 50:03Who's a guy? Let me ask you this and then we
- 50:05can get out of here. Who's the guy maybe that hasn't
- 50:08had a moment yet that you could see having a moment on either
- 50:11side, or maybe not even a moment, but just stepping it up
- 50:21massively in these next couple games?
- 50:33I mean, I would, I guess I'll go my MVP pick.
- 50:36The Oscar really hasn't done much.
- 50:40So give me, I'm going to see I, I, I think he'll do something in
- 50:46LA. Don't know if it's specifically
- 50:50game three, but I think he's going to do something.
- 50:54I like that. I like that a guy I think I
- 50:57might go with who last I checked don't think it's done all that
- 51:08much. These first couple games I could
- 51:13see him having having a moment or two.
- 51:17Tommy Edmond. I knew you're going to say him.
- 51:20I don't know why I just. Knew it well, I was thinking
- 51:22about my MV pick. I went Mookie, but you just kind
- 51:27of get to a point in these series where it's like, I don't
- 51:30know, maybe he just doesn't have it this series.
- 51:32But then there's some guys were like even like Tommy Edmond, for
- 51:35example, he he's just had like he's had a, a couple, a couple
- 51:39good ABS where I'm like they're you're, I feel like you're right
- 51:43there. You're just you're, you're
- 51:44needing the right, the right chips to fall.
- 51:48And I think, I think going back home, I think he could have.
- 51:52And obviously he's, he's had big moments for his team in the post
- 51:55season before. So I think, I think that's a guy
- 51:59I'm rolling with. Yeah, kind of waiting for the
- 52:03Dodgers to really blow up offensively.
- 52:06It was a good game game, too. And you know, we talked about a
- 52:11pass ball, talked about a couple singles, couple single shot,
- 52:14like, you know, single run home runs.
- 52:16But like I'm curious to see if this if they just pop off, you
- 52:22know, I don't know. We'll see going to be a good
- 52:26game. Great series so far.
- 52:29I mean, for not having a dog in the fight.
- 52:32I think this is just highly competitive and that's what I
- 52:35like and I hope it stays that way.
- 52:39Frankly, I would love to see what we just saw in Toronto
- 52:44happen in Lai. Like I would love to see just
- 52:48for the sake of entertainment, I would love to see the Dodgers
- 52:50come out game three, absolutely blow the doors off the Blue Jays
- 52:55and then game 4 have the Blue Jays come out and have a
- 52:58statement win to even it back up at 2:00 and 2:00.
- 53:01I would love that. That would be that would just
- 53:03set up that would that would set the series up so nice for a last
- 53:09a last run down the stretch. That would be fantastic.
- 53:13Yeah, Truth. Would love that.
- 53:18Other than that, think that's all I got.
- 53:20So unless you got any other thoughts, this will do it for
- 53:23our little World Series check in.
- 53:25We'll play it by ear. Not sure when.
- 53:28I mean obviously we'll see how the series goes.
- 53:33Could be over as early as Wednesday if the Dodger or if
- 53:40any, if either team wins, wins three in a row.
- 53:42But otherwise, we'll probably drop in.
- 53:46We'll probably drop back in a couple couple days from now, but
- 53:49keep an eye out. We will try to do another live
- 53:51stream of another World Series games.
- 53:53Keep an eye out for that. But other than that, that's all
- 53:57I really got. I got to poop.
- 54:00No good chasing gear balls. I love you all and as always,
- 54:02looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 54:04Until next time, stay filthy.
