• 2:43
  Speaker 4: Go away, grandma.
• 2:45
Speaker 3: Something like that. Okay, let's get into the Europe trip.
• 2:51
Speaker 4: Okay, I'll start. Firstly, it was a very nice trip. I mean, have to say it's always a privilege to go away and we were celebrating every year an anniversary, a big anniversary. So it was fun. We got on a plane.
• 3:07
I'm telling you now, this is a trip about trains, trains, and automobiles. It's Trains, very trains, and Planes, trains, automobiles.
• 3:15
Speaker 3: What is from, by the way? Because I always say, is it from a movie?
• 3:17
Speaker 4: I think was a movie. It was a movie. I think honestly, as you get older, it's so difficult to travel. Firstly, the flight going over to Europe was a plane that I think was built before I was born. So it was an old Delta flight.
• 3:34
  I don't
• 3:34
Speaker 3: You know, by the way, Zach showed me this, you can check how old your plane is on your phone.
• 3:39
Speaker 4: What are you gonna do when you get on the plane? You're gonna say, Oh, I'm sorry, I can't get on this plane. It's a very old plane. Technically. You mean when you book it?
• 3:46
Speaker 3: I don't know if it's when you book it or if it's like twenty four hours in advance or something like that, but you can see and if it's really old, you can switch it.
• 3:53
Speaker 4: Well, if you're if you're if you're lucky enough to get another flight. That's the other conversation we're gonna have on this this trip. So we got on the flight, everybody was very nice, we don't eat on the plane, it was Did bring food? No, we had something in the lounge and we're really not
• 4:09
Speaker 3: that Bob really looks forward to the lunch.
• 4:11
Speaker 4: He loves the lounges. He spends more time in lounge. We could have really just booked a trip in the lounges in In the airport lounge. And in the train. And we could just go sit in the train VIP.
• 4:20
  So,
• 4:21
Speaker 3: it's really nice now. Like, have you ever done the Delta One?
• 4:24
Speaker 4: Well, that was the whole situation. The Delta One was closed. Have you done that before?
• 4:29
Speaker 3: No. Apparently it's insane.
• 4:31
Speaker 4: They say it's gorgeous but it was closed so we just went to a regular, whatever Delta lounge. But that, we get on the plane, we basically go Wait, to sorry,
• 4:40
Speaker 3: one question. Did you fly Delta?
• 4:43
Speaker 4: Flew Delta over. If you Not coming back.
• 4:46
Speaker 3: If you did the Delta One experience, you should ask for, like, a credit if the lounge wasn't open because that's part of the whole experience.
• 4:52
Speaker 4: Oh, really? Alright. Well, alright. I'm not gonna get into that because So, it was we get on the plane and there's another couple. You know, they have these seats.
• 4:59
First of all, you feel like you're going, like I was going into the MRI machine. They're so low, they're so not And there was, I don't know how everyone goes right to sleep. And out of the MRI machine for squeezing the ball. Got out, that was a bad moment. Anyway, I finally got to the level that I liked, I put the covers on and I went to sleep.
• 5:25
I got up and there's a couple, they've got, you know, you're on a catty corner and I see another couple sitting across to me. That looked very nice. We were smiling at each other. That was that was the end of it. We get off the plane.
• 5:37
I'm gonna tell you what happened. We're gonna
• 5:38
Speaker 3: get to the hope there's a point We for
• 5:40
Speaker 4: go to this little boutique hotel, which by the way, I couldn't figure out who recommended this. This has been going on for two months.
• 5:48
Speaker 3: You were scared that you just saw a TikTok somewhere and thought That's what I thought. And like wrote it down and then thought that maybe it was a recommendation.
• 5:55
Speaker 4: Right. That's what I thought I had done.
• 5:57
Speaker 3: Which there's nothing wrong with looking at social media for recommendations. I do that all the time, but like not one video and then you just book it.
• 6:04
Speaker 4: Well, guess what? Whatever it was, we go into the hotel, it was wonderful. That was the best part of Paris actually. The hotel was a charming little boutique hotel. Do you wanna shout it out?
• 6:14
Le Burgundy. Showed pictures of it on Instagram. I loved it. Concierge was great, the manager was great, very small.
• 6:23
Speaker 3: By the way, everyone loved your Instagram story takeover, a lot of comments about
• 6:28
Speaker 4: Well, was trying your method. I was turning the camera, I was doing it, so I'm learning. But it was fun. I walk in, the minute we walk into the hotel, three couples from a club in Long Island recognized me and said, Oh, how are you? Blah, blah.
• 6:45
Turned out one of those girls I play bridge with at the same bridge club that I play in Manhattan. And she was the one who recommended the hotel. The mystery was solved. Mystery was solved.
• 6:57
Speaker 3: By the way, it's I think it was a Curb Your Enthusiasm joke or something, but when they were like, someone on vacation asked them to have dinner and they were like, I don't have dinner with you in New York. Why would I have dinner with you on vacation?
• 7:08
Speaker 4: This was the funniest thing because I haven't seen this woman, I don't think, since she recommended the hotel. And all of a sudden I said, Oh my gosh, that's where I heard about the hotel. So Paris was beautiful as usual. Now my big problem is, this is the problem, and I'm gonna discuss this because I love to travel and I've always traveled. Every year I've made several, trips overseas to different places.
• 7:31
I basically think Europe is having a downturn. The traffic if you think the traffic in the big cities and the states is bad, wait till you go overseas. First of all, there are no bike rules.
• 7:44
Speaker 3: Is it possible Yes. You're going to tourist y places?
• 7:48
Speaker 4: Absolutely. Well, Paris is the ultimate tourist place.
• 7:51
Speaker 3: It's the same way as New York is, but if you went to a random French town, you wouldn't
• 7:55
Speaker 4: have Oh, of course not. To like we're not doing that.
• 7:57
Speaker 3: There's no way to
• 7:59
Speaker 4: not tell people. I never saw traffic like it was this year. I was just there a year ago and the bikes are out of control. I think more and more people, because it's so expensive to get fuel diesel for their cars, are using bikes as means of transportation.
• 8:15
Speaker 3: It's fun in a new city sometimes to bike around.
• 8:17
Speaker 4: No, we weren't biking, the Parisians Oh. Were No, no, no. These are locals because they're all going to work and they're going in the morning and they're going Oh, late in the
• 8:27
Speaker 3: Remember in Emily in Paris, that guy in the office, like, with the crazy hair, he would always bike?
• 8:33
Speaker 4: Well, I'm telling you, this has become a whole thing there, and they don't have to observe the rules. They go in for the I said to the, the taxi drivers when we got in the car several times, he said this is worth worth your life here. If you don't pay attention, they come to the left, they come from the right. Anyway, so Paris was
• 8:50
Speaker 3: need to pick your battles because you complain about the bikes here too, but it's not changing.
• 8:56
Speaker 4: I know, but I think they have to have some kind of system that if you if they're on bikes, and I feel the same way in New York, that they have to follow the same rules. They can't just go through lights or make lefts when they're not supposed to be making lefts.
• 9:09
Speaker 3: It's another GrandmaGal for Mayor moment.
• 9:11
Speaker 4: Yeah. Oh, I definitely I definitely should be running now. I mean, there's no question that somebody should nominate me for the mayorship.
• 9:18
  Speaker 3: We are.
• 9:18
Speaker 4: I could do a better job.
• 9:19
Speaker 3: Every time we get in a taxi, I feel like you're you wanna discuss with the driver about the bike situation.
• 9:24
Speaker 4: Well, in this well, and they're very nervous about it. Yeah. They're not happy about it. They're not happy because, you know, if they if they unfortunately could hit these delivery people or just a regular biker, Just like a lot. It's a lot.
• 9:36
Okay. So now I don't know what possessed Poppy, but we figured out the restaurants we were going to before we made the trip because it's very hard to get into any of the restaurants in Europe. It's the same as in Where New
• 9:49
Speaker 3: York you getting more recommendations from?
• 9:51
Speaker 4: From friends who've been, and we love, by the way, we love the new restoration hardware restaurant. So we go to this wonderful, new building off the Champs Elysees, which all the restaurant, restoration furniture in it, which is a treat. But it's in a French building with the gold and bronze staircase. I feel
• 10:13
Speaker 3: like it's the opposite of the New
• 10:14
Speaker 4: York one, is really minimal. Low key. This is very This looks like you're in Versailles. Yeah. Or maybe in Marlocca.
• 10:21
Yeah. Very gold and beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. And then they have an atrium, all glass on the Top Floor where they have lunch or dinner or Like go in New York. But this is much prettier.
• 10:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, but they have the atrium with the glass
• 10:34
Speaker 4: in Yes, New this is so beautiful. We sit down, Poppy said it's the best thing he's had, it was our last day actually, in Paris and we had lunch and it was delicious. We had met the manager on the way in and she, I don't know, I think she recognized me which was very sweet. We had a lot of fans came, everybody wanted to know if you were coming. I said, No, you're home.
• 10:55
You're in Newport, you should have come with us. Because everybody wanted to know what you were doing. But anyway, we sit down, we have our lunch.
• 11:02
Speaker 3: Which by the way, every time people come up to me, and I love it, but they're like, Where's Grandma? And then every time people go up to you, they're like, Where's Kent?
• 11:11
Speaker 4: They must think that we don't have a life outside us or each other, which probably is Do we? I don't think we do. So now we're sitting here, Poppy pays the bill and we get up and all of a sudden all the alarms went off in the restaurant. Hundreds of people are now going to the exit. There's no way, you know, they have a glass elevator.
• 11:29
You can't go naturally, you can't go on the elevator. So now everybody's merging down the different flights of stairs. We go the manager meets us on the Bottom Floor. She was standing there. She said, well, how was your experience?
• 11:41
I said, it was fine up until now. What's happening? She said, we have an issue. There's a wire that we took over this building. They'd only opened eleven days ago.
• 11:49
So it was something it was, another, vendor in there before, but Restoration Hardware, we did it. Evidently, they can't find this loose wire that's somewhere connected in the kitchen. And when they have too many dishes in the kitchen, the alarm goes off. Well, all I could think about, we paid the bill, but if you were in the middle of lunch and they emptied you out, do you pay your bill? I don't think so.
• 12:13
I think all those people just had to leave. Fine and dash.
• 12:16
Speaker 3: I mean, wouldn't feel good about leaving and not paying.
• 12:19
Speaker 4: And not eating. Oh, they didn't eat? No, they weren't the Oh, no, what
• 12:24
Speaker 3: would you pay for?
• 12:24
Speaker 4: Well, you could pay for a first course, but let's say we're having a main I don't think We left, I don't know if they ever went back in.
• 12:31
Speaker 3: It makes sense, like if they told me it's gonna be resolved in ten minutes, I would wait. But if they were like, I don't know.
• 12:36
  Speaker 4: Oh, that's that's the
• 12:37
Speaker 3: whole I might be like, maybe I'll come back tomorrow and give you a tip. I mean, I don't know.
• 12:41
Speaker 4: I don't know. The whole thing was but the place is beautiful. They're gonna get ahold of that. So that was fine. That was Paris.
• 12:46
It was fine, there were no great art shows when we were there, so that's always a disappointment. We went to the Louvre, we did a little bit of that, which is This always
• 12:55
Speaker 3: was your, what year anniversary? '62. Sixty second anniversary, Paris is a romantic city. Did you and Poppy do anything romantic?
• 13:04
Speaker 4: We were in taxis all the time. Was that romantic? Went from one part of Paris That was the other thing I was gonna say. When you're planning this thing, which we didn't think about, the traffic is so terrible, you really should plan restaurants somewhat adjacent to your hotel. Planning can be romantic,
• 13:21
Speaker 3: but there was no hand holding. There was no He got you
• 13:25
Speaker 4: Oh, oh, We well, wait. Now wait. So now we go down that we the last day, now they're threatening a strike. This is what I was gonna say. Europe, I think the young people in all the Western countries are having issues right now.
• 13:40
They can't have they don't have jobs or they want more pay or they want more time off and the economy is not great. Europe's economy is not good at all, especially London and Paris. And I think Germany's right there with them. They're suffering. So they're striking all the time.
• 13:59
So when we got back to our hotel after that lunch, the concierge said to us, you know, mister Wedding, they're having they're scheduling a strike Thursday and I think your train goes in the morning. I think you should make an earlier train and get out because they could close the roads, which they do, and then you can't get out of the city. So now Poppy was hysterical as he when, you know, when things don't go exactly the way he wants it. So now we're packed up and he says, I'm ready to leave. I said, Oh, we can't leave today.
• 14:28
We're going tomorrow. So we got to the train station early, which was good because this is what I was gonna say. The crowds are so tremendous. Like you say, tourists are all over. And I think between Paris and London, those are people who work also early in the morning.
• 14:45
They go for the day I and go know.
• 14:47
Speaker 3: Zach and I took the train to Newport for my friend's wedding.
• 14:51
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 14:51
Speaker 3: And, I guess from Penn Station. Right, packed.
• 14:55
Speaker 4: Packed. Yeah, people are, no one's sitting home.
• 14:58
Speaker 3: No, like even he was like, I've never seen it this busy. And the line wrapped around to even get down to the train.
• 15:06
Speaker 4: Well, that was the same with us. So we got on the train, everything was fine. We arrive in London. We get to our hotel. Unfortunately, this is a tip I'm gonna send out to you.
• 15:17
There's no point getting to a hotel before 03:00 because they don't have your rooms ready. So, I mean, this was annoying. So, you know, I said, Let's not wait here. You know, we got there about 12:30. I said, Let's just go for lunch.
• 15:32
Speaker 3: And leave your bag in the lobby.
• 15:33
Speaker 4: Which is what we did. So we went out and we came home. We were meeting friends for dinner, which was really nice. We spent the weekend with another couple there and we had a good time. We get up after the first, or we're sleeping the first night, we get up and the phone rings at 05:30 in the morning.
• 15:51
I jumped out of the bed. I should have realized who would be calling me on a house phone because my children would never know the number of the hotel, they would be calling me on a cell. Right. But you know, when the phone rings and you're in a dense It's like rattled. You get very upset.
• 16:05
So, I pick up the phone, hello, hello, nobody's on the other end. But why wouldn't they say if it was a wake
• 16:12
Speaker 3: up call, why wouldn't they say, Hi, it's your wake up call?
• 16:15
Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe they realized halfway through the call that they rang the wrong room. So, I didn't go back to sleep, we got up, we had breakfast in the room early and then we were ready to leave at 07:30 in the morning, we had no place to go. But anyway, to make a long story short, the art, we saw some wonderful art in, the Royal Academy in London, that was the best. We saw an Ansel and Keefer show and they did a he had he had studied and looked at the, Van Gogh painting, so it was his interpretation of the, Starry Night, and it was wonderful. So that was a good thing.
• 16:50
Well, London had much more to do art wise than Paris. For whatever reason, Paris is sort of just getting revved up now for October.
• 16:58
Speaker 3: When you were walking around and stuff, was there something you packed that came really useful, like sneakers or a certain bag that you're happy you brought?
• 17:07
Speaker 4: No, because I really took my plastic Goyard bag, which puts everything in, and I really didn't even think about it because I wore the same black pants and the sweaters that I wear in the city. Yeah. And I even wore jeans, which I never would have worn or never taken a couple of years ago. I was wearing jeans and a sweater and the weather was beautiful in London. One day was 80 degrees, which was the day I televised on our Instagram, which was beautiful.
• 17:35
I mean, was like summer like.
• 17:36
Speaker 3: Also, you feel like you took more pictures this trip than previous trips, being now a content creator Well,
• 17:43
Speaker 4: thought about it more. Yeah. I thought about it more. I showed you the new, was the old American embassy and I took a tour of that and I thought I shot that over to you. I don't know.
• 17:53
Maybe you didn't put that. Don't know.
• 17:55
Speaker 3: Also, I feel like my generation, we basically sometimes travel just for the folks.
• 18:02
Speaker 4: I know, well I never did that.
• 18:03
Speaker 3: We are like picking all our outfits, thinking about, okay, I'm gonna take a picture in this at this place. Right. So we have a whole curation of things. It's basically, if you take the picture, did you really go? Right, well, you
• 18:16
Speaker 4: think You know I that's never did that. No, I only did this for you to really see where we were. So everything was great in London. We went to the countryside one day, we saw Waddesdon Manor, which is a beautiful old estate built in the late 1800s.
• 18:31
Speaker 3: Was it near Soho Farmhouse?
• 18:32
Speaker 4: No, that's the Cotswolds. This is the opposite. This is two hours like going out to the Hamptons from Manhattan, but it's a different direction and a beautiful grand estate. Left the way it's a foundation, it's left the way it was when it lived in. So they even have flowers on the table and it's beautiful and the grounds are magnificent.
• 18:52
We took a garden tour, which Poppy loved. It somehow doesn't look like our gardens, but it was really, really neat and a wonderful day. And then I go to sleep for the second night and the next morning, guess what? 05:00 the phone rings.
• 19:06
  Speaker 3: Yeah, it's terrible.
• 19:07
Speaker 4: Or now I'm mad. Now I'm mad.
• 19:08
Speaker 3: The reason I'm not reacting is because you've already told me this story. I,
• 19:11
Speaker 4: now I'm mad. I go downstairs. Now I have the manager, assistant manager, they're apologizing. So the last night, like you said, did they give us anything special? They put rose petals on our bed That's
• 19:25
Speaker 3: what and a the hotel did.
• 19:28
Speaker 4: No, to apologize. I know. Poppy didn't do anything. Poppy planned the trip. What are
• 19:34
Speaker 3: you gonna do with the rose petal?
• 19:35
Speaker 4: I threw them in the garbage. First of I was so annoyed. I was so annoyed. Now I gotta clean them off his side of the bed of
• 19:41
Speaker 3: my It's almost worse. Like now you're the housekeeper.
• 19:44
Speaker 4: Now I became the housekeeper. Honestly, they
• 19:47
Speaker 3: should pay you for staying.
• 19:47
Speaker 4: Well, it turned out we went down again the next, the last morning I said, that's it. And they, then they also, the worst insult was they charged us on our bill, somebody else's laundry. So much. And this was a first rate hotel.
• 20:01
  Speaker 3: It's a fancy hotel.
• 20:02
Speaker 4: Yes, was a fancy hotel, but I must say it took away two stars. But they took money off the bill, they They were trying. They were apologetic. Yeah. But two nights in a row for a wake up call.
• 20:16
  Speaker 3: It's no good.
• 20:16
Speaker 4: When I had no place to go.
• 20:17
  Speaker 3: It's no good.
• 20:18
Speaker 4: It was no good. Oh, and they were striking. So then they had an airline, hacking on between, I think it was Brussels, London and Germany. So all the computers were out. So they had got So now we were going back a different airline and they said we recommend you come not two hours but three hours early.
• 20:41
I said to Papi, let's just go. We'll just sit in the airport lounge because we didn't know what But the plane ended up taking off and it was a very nice flight home. Would I go back again to these
• 20:52
Speaker 3: Oh, cities where I didn't ask we're you that, but you could ask yourself a hypothetical question. I'm gonna ask it.
• 20:57
Speaker 4: I'm gonna say it. Think you're better off not. Go like you said, to a smaller city that is not as touristy, that doesn't have the same issues that all the big cities now are suffering do like
• 21:08
Speaker 3: a night in Paris and then go somewhere else?
• 21:10
Speaker 4: Well, that's a lot to go for a night.
• 21:12
Speaker 3: No, but I'm saying somewhere nearby.
• 21:14
Speaker 4: Okay, you'd have to go light to the chateau area, guess, or something. Anyway, that was our trip. We had a very good time. I'm not going back. I'm gonna be America now.
• 21:23
  Stay in America.
• 21:24
Speaker 3: Well, that's what I've been doing. I feel like I've American tour.
• 21:27
Speaker 4: I think I'd rather be on your tour.
• 21:29
Speaker 3: I'd rather be on your tour because I feel like there's so much culture in America like You went to Newport, which is magnificent. I went to Newport and I went to Aspen both for weddings. One was Zach's friend, one was my friend. Two totally different vibes, obviously. Okay.
• 21:46
Aspen, super out, like Western western. Well, certainly were Western.
• 21:52
Speaker 4: I dressed the part. Did anybody else dress like that?
• 21:55
Speaker 3: Walking around Aspen Town, was on the same ascended Same vibe as you. Everybody either wore denim, suede, fringe, a kimosabe hat.
• 22:09
Speaker 4: But you had all the stuff.
• 22:10
Speaker 3: I had all the things. I felt very but it was almost like people were it's funny because obviously no one probably dresses like that in their hometown. Right. And then you all bring it out, even some people on Instagram commented and they're like, do you think that, like, everybody dresses like cowboys here? No.
• 22:25
  But honestly, they were.
• 22:27
Speaker 4: Okay. So not cowboys, but like A western vibe. Vibe. Even the
• 22:33
Speaker 3: aesthetics in some of the stores there are gorgeous.
• 22:35
  Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sure.
• 22:36
Speaker 3: And even those kind of take on the western aesthetic and have like suede couches and things. And then the Newport vibe is very preppy, Even very in the fall, it definitely took on that like Sailing
• 22:56
Speaker 4: and outdoor the Kennedy image. Exactly. And both of the well, at least the Newport Wedding, I
• 23:04
Speaker 3: feel like really leaned into that, which is always nice. Like, if you're gonna do it in a place, like, embrace the themes of Right. The I mean, when you were planning weddings or going to weddings, like, when like your own wedding and your friend's weddings at the time, like, were there themes?
• 23:23
Speaker 4: Well, really, first of all, I don't know. Until recently, I always we always had weddings in our hometown. We never went to different places. So we did it. If you lived in New York, you did it in a hotel in New York.
• 23:34
If you lived in Connecticut, you might come to New York or you'd go to a hall in Yorktown. What would New York theme be? Well, they had winter weddings, we had winter weddings. A classic maybe? Well, yeah, mine was sort of a fall wedding with fall colors and beautiful flowers.
• 23:55
Speaker 3: So you're taking on the season more than the place maybe.
• 23:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you don't theme a wedding unless it's really a destination.
• 24:04
Speaker 3: Well, my friend, the wedding I went to in Newport, which was beautiful, she, I guess, is like part or her ancestors were Nordic.
• 24:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, she Nordic. Does she came from Denmark or Sweden or? I think so. Okay.
• 24:23
Speaker 3: And that was sort of the theme. Okay. Like, there was
• 24:28
Speaker 4: A lot of bowing. Wait, was
• 24:31
Speaker 3: it Nordic? What is it when you're like a Viking?
• 24:33
  Speaker 4: Yeah. Scandinavian.
• 24:35
Speaker 3: Yeah. Something like that. We like all read a Nordic prayer chant.
• 24:41
Speaker 4: That's very nice. All right. Well, maybe that's our family. That's a family tradition.
• 24:46
Speaker 3: Yeah. So I guess like you kinda can have
• 24:48
Speaker 4: Right. A Well, we would have to have a matzo ball theme or brisket. Could you imagine a brisket theme? Honestly, Poppy would've loved that. Yeah, and so would your father.
• 25:00
Yeah. And so would your brother. Yeah. A brisket theme, they could have on a sandwich dipping or whatever. Maybe, I don't know, for
• 25:06
Speaker 3: a wedding, maybe for something else. Was Poppy a good dancer as a He wedding
• 25:12
Speaker 4: a terrible dancer, then we went for dancing lessons just to do it together, I think once or twice. And he was terrible, had two left feet.
• 25:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, well the good thing now is it's not like we're doing choreographed dances at these other places.
• 25:26
Speaker 4: I forgot what you're doing. Jumping up and down. Yeah, kinda jumps takes.
• 25:30
Speaker 3: So they like mimic the words and Right,
• 25:33
Speaker 4: it's very different dancing. Not like Dancing With The Stars, that's for sure.
• 25:37
Speaker 3: No. But I feel like being a good dancer versus a bad dancer now is like whether you even wanna go on the dance floor and Oh, just have Or and some I don't know. Some people are like awkward and they don't really So want I feel like Zach's a good wedding date in that aspect is, like, we always wanna be on the dance floor dancing. Alright. But Does he know
• 25:59
Speaker 4: the different dances? No. But I'm thinking about all
• 26:01
  Speaker 3: different dances.
• 26:01
Speaker 4: Oh, there there are no different dances at all. Nobody does that.
• 26:04
Speaker 3: It just no. You just dance to the song.
• 26:06
Speaker 4: Okay. You just move.
• 26:08
Speaker 3: You just move and you, like, sing the lyrics. Okay. If you know the lyrics. Okay. Sorry.
• 26:14
And all the weddings have the same songs pretty much, so
• 26:16
Speaker 4: They must send it out, central casting, one one one tape.
• 26:20
Speaker 3: Yeah. Did you know when you were younger that you wanted a fall wedding?
• 26:28
Speaker 4: Well, it wasn't that, but you know, I got engaged on my birthday in April, the end of April, and then just, your grandfather was still in school and the minute I knew he was graduating, we were getting married. I mean, was no point, we didn't drag these things out and we didn't live together naturally. So, know, the time being just
• 26:50
Speaker 3: happened that four months later was fall. Yes. Yeah.
• 26:52
Speaker 4: It could have been any time.
• 26:53
Speaker 3: Whereas now people create like Pinterest boards
• 26:56
Speaker 4: I know, and they want it's overdone. It's overdone, overdone, overthought and you know what, I I can understand why brides have meltdowns because it's too much stress. I mean, it really is crazy and too much to think about, and especially when you're doing these destinations. Well, this one girl lived in lives in, Newport. Yeah.
• 27:14
So maybe that's a little less. She knows the vendors and things. But people make things up and they go to Aspen or they go to some place in Lake Como. I mean, that's major. I mean, you need people on the ground.
• 27:26
You need to be going over to check things.
• 27:28
Speaker 3: Usually, like, let's say I have some friends doing European weddings, and so their party planner will have experience I'm sure they must. London, even if it's in Italy, so they're like, they have a European market.
• 27:40
Speaker 4: I it's too much money spent on these things, to be very truthful.
• 27:44
  Speaker 3: I think it's cool.
• 27:45
Speaker 4: Well, know you think it's Everything you think is cool, but.
• 27:48
Speaker 3: Speaking of brisket, we just had the Jewish holidays and this episode comes out on Yom Kippur, so I hope we didn't make you too hungry if you are fasting today. So wishing you an easy fast. What did we do for Rosh Hashanah? We had Mommy made a delicious dinner,
• 28:04
Speaker 4: she she cooked the brisket the day before, which she doesn't normally do. She didn't tell us this till later when we had a conversation. She cooked it and she cooked it completely. And then the day of, the night of, she put it back in the oven for another hour and a half. So when she cut it, it just fell apart.
• 28:26
It was almost like eating pulled pork. I preferred that. Oh, you did? Oh, I like a whole piece. I don't like to.
• 28:31
Now it was a little, it was delicious. It tasted good, but she just cooked it about an hour too long. She had to under cook it by half an hour and then reheat it the day of and then it would be done. I don't know. Was I good don't though, but her table looked beautiful.
• 28:49
Brisket is very easy. Can, matter of fact, I just was watching Ina Gard make a brisket. It's the easiest thing because it's a one pot meal.
• 28:56
  Speaker 3: Guess so.
• 28:57
Speaker 4: It's not difficult. If you get a good piece of meat, just put the vegetables in and then your tomatoes and onions and carrots and you stick it in with a little water and canned tomatoes and you cook it for three and a half hours. It's like for a beginning cook to do brisket.
• 29:15
  Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
• 29:15
Speaker 4: She had very good, she stirred string beans and mashed potato and what else did mom have?
• 29:22
Speaker 3: Oh, she had Kugol but that she bought
• 29:25
Speaker 4: And that wasn't good. She bought it at Butterfield. Yeah, we didn't like that. Was something else. She makes better but she didn't feel like
• 29:33
Speaker 3: eating Oh, like, wait, I don't know, there was one more thing.
• 29:36
Speaker 4: Well, think she had a sweet potato for you.
• 29:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, there was something else though.
• 29:40
Speaker 4: And then she had that delicious dessert.
• 29:42
  Speaker 3: Yeah, the
• 29:42
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, that lady
• 29:44
  Speaker 3: Crispy in
• 29:45
Speaker 4: This flake is a lady in, I don't know, is she only in New York, Kim, the bakery? I don't know. I love the green tea one. There's definitely a couple layers of is very it crepe or phyllo dough or very, very thin something and then a cream, it's delicious. For those, you just go get a slice of it.
• 30:05
You can even buy it by the slice from the store, it's so good.
• 30:08
Speaker 3: Yeah. And then we went to Mark's Off Madison with more extended the next night. And I liked it. It was good.
• 30:16
  Speaker 4: I liked
• 30:16
Speaker 3: it. Liked the whole setup. I liked mom's situation better I think.
• 30:21
Speaker 4: Well mom's situation was small, we were you know,
• 30:24
Speaker 3: Well like only food and the table.
• 30:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, no, she did beautiful flowers. So it was a very nice, and we went to synagogue and we heard the sermons which were not inspiring in this day and age, they could have made a little more
• 30:37
Speaker 3: inspiring Well, a weren't there the night before.
• 30:40
Speaker 4: No, right. Well, watched on JBS which is broadcasting on TV and I find, which I did during COVID all the time, they do a wonderful production. I sent them actually money.
• 30:54
Speaker 3: Like it's so good.
• 30:54
Speaker 4: Because I think they're so good for people who can't go It's to the beautiful and they televise it in a reformed and conservative and orthodox different times.
• 31:03
Speaker 3: Well, we're like, our temple is very reformed, like all the songs sound like Disney songs. My favorite, like, I love just listening to their voices, Yes, it sounds like a Broadway
• 31:15
Speaker 4: they have beautiful voices.
• 31:15
Speaker 3: So that's great. Yes. And then, as I said today when people are listening is Yom Kippur, you're not planning on fasting. Well, I
• 31:24
Speaker 4: never fast. You're not supposed to fast if you physically can't. That's what they tell You definitely can, you just I don't know what can't, I'm too old. I can't. I make it through breakfast and then somewhere around 02:00 I start feeling faint.
• 31:39
That's terrible. So, but anyway, it is a day that I do like to listen to the songs and the prayers, it's my favorite day. And we had a good chauffeur, they blew the chauffeur beautifully at Rosh Hashanah, you did a great job. It makes me feel good. A new year, it's a new year.
• 31:56
And everybody, forget this stuff that happened in the old years, get rid of your old thoughts and just do good new thoughts.
• 32:04
Speaker 3: Mhmm. I used to fast, especially like right after college, and I also was really into fitness at the time. So I remember like I fasted, did a SoulCycle class, and walked eight miles in one day.
• 32:16
  Speaker 4: Oh my god.
• 32:17
Speaker 3: And now I won't work out, won't fast, and I'll still eat a ton at break fast like I did fast. Okay.
• 32:23
Speaker 4: I don't think you have to do the eight miles. That's too much anyway. Yeah. Was a lot anyway. That's pun that's a punishment onto itself.
• 32:28
Speaker 3: So, yeah, it feels like a perfect time to be talking about fresh starts and like family. It's a new season, the Jewish New Year, but also just like fall, kids going back to school, just that cultural reset. And so I asked our audience how everyone resets for a new season and what they recommend. Okay. A new scent or a new lipstick.
• 32:52
  Okay.
• 32:52
Speaker 4: I can't change the lipstick, but a new scent sounds good.
• 32:55
Speaker 3: Yeah. Feel like it gives you a different atmosphere,
• 32:58
  Speaker 4: Yes. Kind
• 33:00
Speaker 3: New wardrobe basics, I agree, like cleaning out the closet
• 33:05
Speaker 4: closet just refreshing. Needs to be refreshed.
• 33:10
Speaker 3: I liked this one, change three habits.
• 33:13
  Speaker 4: So
• 33:13
Speaker 3: like exercise different. Okay. If you read, listen to music. Okay. Get up early and walk, things like that.
• 33:20
Okay. A new hairstyle or color, like highlights or new haircut? Well, is if you're
• 33:32
Speaker 4: not happy with the old. You know, I don't think you have to throw out everything from last year, but the thing is to try to improve. So, yeah, I think if you don't do enough exercise, you know, put it down in your phone or on your calendar, I have to walk a little bit more today. I mean, you know, do something, but do it in moderation. Not like you did eight miles and then a Soul Cycle class and all, and fasted in one day.
• 33:55
  A gradual change is good.
• 33:57
  Speaker 3: I feel like it's just a refresh.
• 33:59
Speaker 4: Yeah, Just make yourself feel good for the new season.
• 34:03
Speaker 3: Someone said like you need visuals of what looks you're drawn to. So Oh, you mean for fashion? For fashion, like, I use Pinterest a lot and save a lot of outfits that then I can kind of copy with stuff that I have.
• 34:18
Speaker 4: I just go in my closet. Yeah, but you
• 34:20
Speaker 3: have a better eye. Like, some people need help. Right.
• 34:22
  Speaker 4: Alright. Okay.
• 34:24
Speaker 3: But someone said, You're too young to be a mini Grandma Gale.
• 34:27
Speaker 4: Uh-oh. No, I'm not. Well, I don't know if you're too young. You're not exactly a mini Gale. We like to share thoughts.
• 34:36
We like to share thoughts ideas. Don't take us literally on everything, please.
• 34:42
Speaker 3: Okay, so let's move on to the drama club. They announced the Super Bowl halftime performance.
• 34:52
  Speaker 4: I saw that.
• 34:53
Speaker 3: Bad Bunny. Right. Do you know who Bad Bunny is?
• 34:55
Speaker 4: I saw him on TV. I didn't realize he was he's from Puerto Rico. I didn't realize he was as popular as they say he's gonna be this gonna be the biggest thing that ever happened, the Super Bowl.
• 35:04
Speaker 3: He's very popular. Can you name one song?
• 35:07
  Speaker 4: Nope.
• 35:08
Speaker 3: Figured. I think it's a really good time or place, as they're saying, to showcase Latin music.
• 35:16
Speaker 4: Okay. Well, that's like the show you wanted to go see. Yeah. The one of the topics. Oh, one of these social media.
• 35:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's different kind of music, but like to What is your Latin feel? To this massive US audience. Okay. Who's been your favorite halftime performer ever?
• 35:34
Speaker 4: You know what, I never watch it. Really? Yeah, I don't watch it. I didn't even watch it when I went to the Super Bowl. Think I to the That's
• 35:42
Speaker 3: the only part I watch. No, I didn't. I could not care less about any of the sports.
• 35:46
Speaker 4: It's a very big hype thing and it's great for the audience to watch but it's not, I don't I don't know any of those stars anymore. They're not putting up people that I would enjoy listening to. Barry Manilow is singing at the halftime. So think I've sort of moved on and I let the young people hear who they like, which is fine.
• 36:05
Speaker 3: I just love how they go so over the top and it's like many dancers. It's so big and I think it's just such a spectacle. I liked Rihanna because I feel like she has so many hits. Who was
• 36:16
Speaker 4: the one that lost her bra? I was at that Super Bowl. Was that
• 36:19
  Speaker 3: J Lo?
• 36:20
Speaker 4: No, I don't think so. Has to Ask help I was at that Super Bowl when they lost the bra. Okay, wait. Which performer at
• 36:29
Speaker 3: the Super Bowl lost their bra?
• 36:31
Speaker 4: Well, well, their bust fell out. Let's see
• 36:35
Speaker 3: what it says. I think Janet Jackson? Yes.
• 36:40
Speaker 4: Yes. That's exactly correct. I was at that store.
• 36:42
Speaker 3: It was 2004. Okay. Part of her costume was torn off by Justin Timberlake exposing her right breast.
• 36:47
Speaker 4: Exactly. Crazy. I was there and I didn't see it. Well, you have
• 36:52
Speaker 3: to be so close probably.
• 36:52
  Speaker 4: Oh my god.
• 36:53
Speaker 3: But the cameras see it. Yeah. Crazy. They blur it, like, in real time?
• 36:58
Speaker 4: No, I don't think they did. I think everybody saw it.
• 37:00
Speaker 3: Wow. I'm sure now every thousand and four,
• 37:03
Speaker 4: oh, that's very interesting. Long, twenty one years ago.
• 37:07
Speaker 3: Rihanna also just had a baby. Did you see that? No. Oh yeah, it's exciting. Okay, next I wanted to say is The Golden Bachelor premiered, like a new season past week.
• 37:21
Speaker 4: I saw him. Wait, Mel Owens? I saw him, but I don't think he wants to date anybody 60. Okay, well that was a controversy. Yeah.
• 37:29
Speaker 3: Controversy before filming was a comment he made in a podcast that he said he wanted to exclude women 60 Right. With artificial hips and wigs, etcetera. And then he apologized on the show's premiere. Right. Like that's How old is he?
• 37:43
66, yeah. Okay. It's just like why are you going on a show for goldens if you don't want Have
• 37:50
Speaker 4: a gold if he
• 37:51
Speaker 3: wants a 30 year old. Right. But I think that he will redeem himself. Okay. Or they'll make him He
• 37:57
Speaker 4: seem nice. Seem capable and edit. Nice.
• 37:59
Speaker 3: Yeah. And I mean, what do you think the biggest red flag is in a man over 60?
• 38:06
Speaker 4: Well, think a man a man of that age, depending on what he it it basically wants unless I can't say it. I can't say it properly. I think most men 65 want a younger girl. They don't wanna have somebody that is their own age, unless it's a friend that they've known forever and perhaps always thought about in their dreams. Most of them want somebody younger.
• 38:31
They want somebody on their arm that makes people say, Oh, look what he got. So I don't know.
• 38:37
Speaker 3: I think maybe some people do want someone who has their own life
• 38:43
Speaker 4: and is settled and Well, we're not gonna a see, we're gonna see. What are the women? Are the women all gonna be like, are they all in their 60s or 50s?
• 38:53
  Speaker 3: I think a range of ages like 50 to 70s.
• 38:57
Speaker 4: Okay, so they all have to be over 50.
• 38:59
Speaker 3: I believe so, yeah. I don't know where the cutoff lies, but last thing is Selena Gomez had her wedding. I know, I saw that. To Benny Blanco in California. There were a lot of celebrities there obviously.
• 39:12
  Speaker 1: I'm Hollywood
• 39:13
Speaker 3: Swift, Paris Hilton, Steve Martin, Martin Short.
• 39:15
  Speaker 4: Well, of course.
• 39:16
Speaker 3: I wish they walked her down the aisle They should've. Because that would've been so That would've been so She wore custom Ralph Lauren, do you see the dresses?
• 39:24
  Speaker 4: I didn't see the dresses.
• 39:25
Speaker 3: I'll show you after this, we can do a video on it.
• 39:27
  Speaker 4: She's so cute.
• 39:28
Speaker 3: It was like halter neck style, floral accents and open back, and then she changed into a second dress, and her hair was like kinda old Hollywood bob. Okay. Did you expect her to get married this soon?
• 39:40
Speaker 4: Because they really only announced the engagement. But they've been going together for a while, so they figured, you know what, maybe their schedules were free. You know, a lot of those kind of people need to do it when they're not filming. So I'm sure that's
• 39:55
Speaker 3: the Or like season recording is or on or Exactly, whatever it
• 39:58
Speaker 4: exactly. They probably figured this was the perfect time for them.
• 40:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's probably true.
• 40:02
Speaker 4: They seem somewhat normal. Yeah. You know, who knows? I think
• 40:06
Speaker 3: they're so likable. Okay, let's do the grandma report. So grandma walked in here. The first thing she said is, there's a new LaBubu store opening in Times Square.
• 40:19
Speaker 4: I read it in the post this morning, and the
• 40:21
Speaker 3: post doesn't lie. Yes, sure. So, the store that the store will be Pop Mart, which is like the company behind LaBooBoo. Okay.
• 40:32
Speaker 4: It's gonna be crazy.
• 40:33
Speaker 3: It's like late next year, late twenty twenty seven.
• 40:35
Speaker 4: Well, maybe that fad is gonna be gone already. I mean, I don't know how long these fads go.
• 40:40
Speaker 3: Well, that's my question. Like they signed a ten year lease up
• 40:42
Speaker 4: Oh, wow. Well, they make other things. They do. Well, so then if they don't push the little boo boo, maybe the next doll or toy will come out. Like do we think
• 40:53
Speaker 3: it's the new Beanie Baby, Hello Kitty, like, or do you think it's a fad?
• 40:58
Speaker 4: Already think that less people are wearing. I don't know, I never You kept telling me mommy's wasn't real because the feet didn't move or something.
• 41:07
Speaker 3: Well, there's LaFufus, like the fake ones that people are making because it's so hard to get a
• 41:11
Speaker 4: I was just gonna say I wanted one and then you couldn't get it. Now I'm over it because I don't even know where I'd put the lube.
• 41:17
Speaker 3: That's so interesting, I feel like the reason people wanted them was the exclusivity that it was hard to get them.
• 41:22
  Speaker 4: Oh,
• 41:22
Speaker 3: really? Oh, that's why I wanted one.
• 41:24
Speaker 4: Mommy was like dressed hers up cute.
• 41:26
Speaker 3: So did I. You put Oh, Mine has a little Prada outfit.
• 41:29
Speaker 4: It's not real Prada. It's Amazon. It looks very cute.
• 41:33
Speaker 3: I also feel like Times Square
• 41:36
Speaker 4: is That's an interesting Well, that's the place to be because those The are where the tourists tourists comes like the M and M store or like any That's of these big the place to be. I have to tell you, we went to theater, just a little side thing. We went to see a show on Saturday.
• 41:52
Speaker 3: Jeff Ross' show was
• 41:53
Speaker 4: Correct. Who had been on our podcast and he's a wonderful man. And I laughed like the devil. Of course, Kimmy Seaton I three liked it. I mean, lot of it was very sad and I understood it, but he had some very, very clever jokes.
• 42:06
Love the thing with the humor. It's yeah. It was great. But that wasn't the thing. It'll be happening soon too.
• 42:13
Right. To go to Times Square at any time is a test of your stamina. Yeah. It's I almost, and I, you know, love the theater, but it's impossible. I got somebody got out of a cab as I was going as we were going home and I think I almost ran over the person to get in it.
• 42:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's You just one. Didn't I walked home because it was like there was There was nothing.
• 42:36
Speaker 4: So it's very difficult. You have to have patience now. This goes back to Paris, to London. You have to wear all these cities are just inundated with people.
• 42:46
Speaker 3: Yeah. I saw a show last night off Broadway in the West Village, Perfect location.
• 42:53
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well that's-
• 42:54
Speaker 3: That you could walk, it's in, I mean it's of course a small theater-
• 42:57
  Speaker 4: Oh It's
• 42:57
Speaker 3: not Broadway. It was Dylan Mulvaney's show who if people don't follow her online, I mean she's 9,000,000 plus followers, but- So at least 9,000,000 people. Incredible like story and so much fun. But, it's just such a different experience to do
• 43:11
Speaker 4: off Yeah, but I don't think all these tourists are going off Broadway. No.
• 43:16
Speaker 3: Okay, quickly the rewind. What are you watching on TV right now?
• 43:25
Speaker 4: What I was I'm watching Hidden Assets, which Poppy and I love. It's a Of course, a murder in that takes Belgium and Ireland. They're two sets of detectives and it's a long case with terrorism and all this stuff. We love it.
• 43:47
Speaker 3: Do you always watch those together? You don't have any of
• 43:49
Speaker 4: your own? Well, we usually watch those together because we both like them.
• 43:54
Speaker 3: Because in the morning you watch the news. Morning we So it's watch really just at night and then you'll watch together.
• 43:59
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. I mean, unless he's watching I mean, this weekend we were doing things because he was they were glued to the set, all the guys watching the Ryder Cup, which we eventually did a little better than, than we thought we were gonna do because Saturday it was almost a a route. By Sunday, the guys got a little closer. And a shout out to the European and the American teams. They both conducted themselves properly.
• 44:23
I think some of the crowd were a little obnoxious and that somehow that bothers me. Sportsmanship, you know, these guys are playing for their countries, they're all very successful.
• 44:35
Speaker 3: What were they doing, like booing?
• 44:37
Speaker 4: They were nasty, yeah.
• 44:38
  Speaker 3: I didn't know.
• 44:39
Speaker 4: And I don't think that's nice. There was an article in one of the papers this morning talking about it. If you go to one of these sports things, do it in the spirit that the sport is. You don't see the athletes acting like that and the fans shouldn't be either.
• 44:56
Speaker 3: Do you feel like when there are shows that everybody is talking about that you feel left out if you're not watching it? I don't really care what anybody else does, you know me.
• 45:05
Speaker 4: I danced to my own tune.
• 45:08
Speaker 3: Love being part of the cultural zeitgeist. Like if everyone at dinner's talking about something, I wanna pop in with my opinion. And like, so I watch everything. Okay. Right now, mainly
• 45:21
Speaker 4: Love Island games. Oh, get with that Love Island.
• 45:23
Speaker 3: Well, there's just so many seasons. Okay.
• 45:26
Speaker 4: Well, that's why they're doing it. It's People so like you and your friends are all watching it.
• 45:30
Speaker 3: Yeah. And with Love Island games, it's basically like they're playing, they're doing like challenges like what on, don't know, of those like,
• 45:44
Speaker 4: not Survivor, but Challenges of sports. Athletics sports, right.
• 45:51
Speaker 3: As well as coupling up and everything. That's awesome. And then still watching Only Murders in the Building, it's so hard because you can't binge it. I'm like week to week. Did you watch last week?
• 46:02
Speaker 4: No. I I watched them together, they're not Wait for it to miss. I wait for it to to get a whole season. Okay. But they're wonderful.
• 46:10
They're wonderful. I enjoy it. Yeah. It's so great.
• 46:14
Speaker 3: Okay. Let's do ask grandma anything.

• 47:24
Speaker 4: We're going over because nobody's gonna wanna listen to us so long. Okay.
• 47:27
Speaker 3: Okay. How do you feel about oh, we answered this. Okay, next question. When and where were you not able to stop laughing together? Who?
• 47:35
Us? You and I? When were we not able to stop laughing? Like, in a What are you
• 47:41
Speaker 4: confused about? I don't know what that's about.
• 47:45
Speaker 3: What what situation have we been in that we couldn't stop laughing? It was so funny.
• 47:49
Speaker 4: I I don't remember anything. When when couldn't we stop laughing? I haven't found anything that you thought was that funny.
• 47:57
Speaker 3: Maybe like, I feel like when we have to do some certain ads and stuff.
• 48:01
Speaker 4: Oh, well. And then it's It like gets so ridiculous.
• 48:04
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Well Sometimes it's like they want exact wording and you're like, can't get it right.
• 48:08
Speaker 4: We can't get it. We can't get it because we can't First of you can't read the script and then we start messing up the words.
• 48:14
Speaker 3: That's why I'm like, my favorite partnerships are the ones that like they let us take control.

• 48:20
Speaker 3: Yeah. Someone said, what can I do to feel and look more feminine?
• 48:26
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh. Don't worry. Please stop worrying. I'm sure you look beautiful. Put on, I don't know, maybe put on a ruffled blouse or, don't wear, you know, a dark t shirt.
• 48:39
Wear something like soft and pink or light blue. Don't worry about it. I mean, however you look, be comfortable in your own body and the way you look. Don't worry about four other girlfriends that are wearing certain things. It doesn't matter.
• 48:55
Speaker 3: Love that answer. How much has the popularity and recognition changed the two of you?
• 49:03
Speaker 4: I don't think it's changed us at all. No. I don't think it's changed us at all except that we're wearing, you know, today if anybody's looking, I've done a cataract procedure on and so I'm not wearing any eye makeup. Kim says nobody even notices it. I literally cannot tell.
• 49:16
If you notice it, that's why I'm not wearing eye makeup. And then next week I have to do it again. So it's an endless moment of doing drops.
• 49:24
Speaker 3: That's the only thing. But like take it.
• 49:26
Speaker 4: For all those out there who are gonna do it, it's a wonderful procedure. I'm now seeing terrifically out of the left eye, but you know, it is a thing about drops. I've never taken so many eye drops in my life.
• 49:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's funny because as I said, I don't think anyone really realizes you're not wearing eye makeup But I for thank you. But when we were walking around Soho yesterday, everyone was like stopping us and saying hi and you were like, I'm not wearing makeup. And they were like, I don't care. They didn't care.
• 49:50
Speaker 4: Can I don't know? They don't really care. I don't know why I've been fussing with all this Exactly.
