- 0:00Speaker 1: We've all got quirks.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I've got them. You've got them, Dave. That's what makes
- 0:03Speaker 2: this character so, so compelling.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Thumbs up from me. Same here. This is Dean Cameron,
- 0:12Speaker 1: also known as Chainsaw, and you're listening to.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Moving Up Down.
- 0:19Speaker 4: It's showtime. The following feature has been rated R by
- 0:23Speaker 4: the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for
- 0:26Speaker 4: mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor
- 0:32Speaker 4: pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:01Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I'm Brian and this week I'll be joined by my
- 1:03Speaker 3: special guest co-host, comedian Kyle Kinane.
- 1:28Speaker 5: And actually, Kyle will also be joined by his special
- 1:31Speaker 5: guest co-host, comedian Joyelle Johnson, who coincidentally crossed over for
- 1:35Speaker 5: a day or so in the same town, so we
- 1:38Speaker 5: invited her to sit in with us. And what we
- 1:40Speaker 5: come up with is this crazy discussion that jumps from
- 1:43Speaker 5: comedy to movies to, well, let's just say it, bad impressions.
- 1:48Speaker 5: And a lot of strange love and appreciation for a
- 1:51Speaker 5: certain actor out there. Nah, but describing it here just
- 1:54Speaker 5: isn't going to do it justice. So let's just get
- 1:57Speaker 5: this show on the road and jump right into our
- 1:58Speaker 5: discussion with Kyle Kinane and Joyelle Johnson.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Look at.
- 2:06Speaker 6: You, such a gentleman.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to be nice. I'm on tour by myself,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of contact with people, so
- 2:17Speaker 1: I'm like... This is my whole life.
- 2:20Speaker 2: This is the only interaction with humans I have.
- 2:24Speaker 1: On the podcast. Are we firing?
- 2:27Speaker 2: I believe we are rolling. Firing as much as we're
- 2:31Speaker 2: going to. All right, let's get into it. How has
- 2:35Speaker 2: the tour been so far?
- 2:37Speaker 1: It's been pretty good. I started in Omaha, Nebraska, and
- 2:43Speaker 1: I've been making my way through the tornado states since
- 2:48Speaker 1: last Saturday.
- 2:50Speaker 2: No trailer unturned.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, no, there's some fun. Drove into some weather, driving
- 2:56Speaker 1: into just gray walls in the distance. Like, all right,
- 2:59Speaker 1: here we go.
- 3:00Speaker 2: That's reassuring.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Got the smallest rental car I could. And I'm like,
- 3:03Speaker 1: maybe something, maybe a larger sedan would have been nice.
- 3:07Speaker 1: But it's been good, man.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I usually start off when dealing with comedians, I'm asking
- 3:13Speaker 5: you about what it's like to do comedy.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm going to switch it up. This time, I'm going
- 3:17Speaker 2: to talk about the audience.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Well, it goes back to you, but I'm just, cause
- 3:21Speaker 5: the last few times I've talked to people, I'm like,
- 3:23Speaker 5: I think that's my problem is the audience sometimes. And like,
- 3:27Speaker 5: it's awesome that they come out and support you, but
- 3:28Speaker 5: sometimes I'm out there and I'm like, how do I
- 3:31Speaker 5: get next to the dumbest people? And then I'm like,
- 3:34Speaker 5: is everybody the dumbest? I mean like this for, for
- 3:38Speaker 5: anybody listening out there, don't be this audience member who
- 3:41Speaker 5: needs to follow up your punchline and with them repeating
- 3:45Speaker 5: the punchline.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I was next to him later that was just like, rodeo.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Every once in a while, they would have to punch
- 3:54Speaker 5: it with their repeating it.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Well, I get, Joyelle, I don't know about your particular
- 4:01Speaker 1: circumstances or audiences, but I get a lot of people
- 4:05Speaker 1: that will sometimes have too much before a show, And
- 4:11Speaker 1: not understand what rhetorical questions are. Or, yeah, just for
- 4:16Speaker 1: the sake of the other people to share. Like, what
- 4:18Speaker 1: if somebody missed the punchline? Oh, thank God you're sharing
- 4:21Speaker 1: it with the other people around there.
- 4:23Speaker 7: I don't know if that's... I think if you're finishing
- 4:26Speaker 7: a punchline, that's better than starting it before I say
- 4:29Speaker 7: the punchline or saying what you think my punchline should be.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Hi, I'm Joyelle, for the people that have absolutely.
- 4:35Speaker 1: No idea who this other man voice is. Kyle's been
- 4:39Speaker 1: taking care of his voice. It sounds so smooth and sultry.
- 4:43Speaker 1: He's a sexy black man. Finally. Your wishes have come true.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Do you know Joe Wengert? He's a hilarious comic, but
- 4:56Speaker 1: he's like, I only wish older, sassy black women knew
- 5:02Speaker 1: how much I impersonated them when I was in my
- 5:04Speaker 1: apartment by myself. Just wish they knew.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's a skill. Not many white people can do that.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But it expresses things so much better.
- 5:18Speaker 5: But, yeah, I mean, my favorite earlier was that same
- 5:22Speaker 5: person who said that also had to follow up with
- 5:26Speaker 5: explaining to his, I'm assuming, girlfriend, wife, I don't know,
- 5:30Speaker 5: what a Trader Joe's was.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Well, but that's, I took the chance of not knowing.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But we have them in this town. It's not like
- 5:37Speaker 2: it's a foreign concept. She's just dumb.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Oh, all right. Yeah, you know, that's all right. I
- 5:45Speaker 1: welcome all covers to the show. It's a real open
- 5:50Speaker 1: door policy.
- 5:51Speaker 5: I appreciate that people come out because it's hard to
- 5:53Speaker 5: get people to come out for anything in this town sometimes.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So I always appreciate when people come out. But yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 2: to me, I always feel for you guys of like,
- 6:02Speaker 2: you're fighting an uphill battle sometimes with audience.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Well, I had a show on this tour where the
- 6:07Speaker 1: whole show was just one woman in the front so
- 6:10Speaker 1: drunk and saying something after every sentence, commenting, and then
- 6:17Speaker 1: mimicking hand gestures I was making, like a toddler. Like
- 6:20Speaker 1: a toddler learning, yeah, learning how to be a person.
- 6:24Speaker 1: No dipping sauce. Just say it, and then if I
- 6:27Speaker 1: moved my hand, she then went to pick up, she'd
- 6:30Speaker 1: put one of her drinks inside her other drink, and
- 6:32Speaker 1: then with a drink, it just poured it on the
- 6:34Speaker 1: front of her shirt.
- 6:35Speaker 2: She's doing magic or something.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And was unaffected. Was unaffected. Just... Sat there with a
- 6:42Speaker 1: drink on her shirt, like, I'm not going anywhere. Like,
- 6:44Speaker 1: didn't even notice.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That puts in perspective how many of those she'd had
- 6:48Speaker 2: before that.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And it's like, I'm glad you're at the show. Like,
- 6:51Speaker 1: thank you for buying a ticket. I can't believe anybody
- 6:54Speaker 1: would buy a ticket for this bullshit I'm doing. But
- 6:56Speaker 1: then it's like, why you?
- 7:01Speaker 5: I will argue that a little. I think you've gotten
- 7:03Speaker 5: quite skilled over the years, I guess. Is that something
- 7:06Speaker 5: you feel like it is, just hammering it out? It
- 7:09Speaker 5: is just time spent on the stage, on the road,
- 7:12Speaker 5: just to kind of craft this?
- 7:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Well, yeah. I mean, but I've done enough drinking and
- 7:17Speaker 1: partying jokes that I know that's who I go, but
- 7:19Speaker 1: that's why I don't want to do drinking and partying
- 7:21Speaker 1: jokes so much anymore because I want to be able
- 7:23Speaker 1: to do my job as a comedian and tell the jokes.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I don't want to just be the host of some
- 7:30Speaker 1: collection of drunks, which is still what happens, but I
- 7:34Speaker 1: don't know.
- 7:36Speaker 2: It's good when you find an audience.
- 7:37Speaker 7: One of my favorite jokes. It wasn't a joke, but
- 7:40Speaker 7: it was just a reference. You said that you were
- 7:43Speaker 7: too drunk to sit on an airplane once.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I just remember.
- 7:48Speaker 7: I was too drunk to sit.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah, I know my history. Sorry to
- 7:55Speaker 1: remind you, but. But it's like, okay, I did the drink.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Now I'm trying to report it back in a sober fashion.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I can't do it if I'm drunk.
- 8:06Speaker 5: You've learned something. At least enough to give the stories.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Maybe whether or not you've learned enough to steer clear
- 8:12Speaker 5: of it.
- 8:13Speaker 2: It's a different thing.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah, still.
- 8:17Speaker 7: For the record, I offered him a drink and he declined.
- 8:19Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. From the perspective I have right.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Now, you're a good behavior. I really don't know why
- 8:24Speaker 1: I did that. I was like, I'm in Louisville at
- 8:27Speaker 1: a whiskey bar.
- 8:27Speaker 2: We don't know anything about bourbon here. I don't know
- 8:30Speaker 2: what you're talking about.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Oh, God, I don't know at all. I've been drinking tequila.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Because gout, I can't go online. So many Google searches
- 8:40Speaker 1: were just like, what's the best booze for gout? And
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's like, you shouldn't drink any alcohol. I'm like, that's
- 8:45Speaker 1: not the question I'm asking. I know I'm not. But
- 8:49Speaker 1: what's the safest alcohol? Forget all alcohol. That's just fucking
- 8:55Speaker 1: rate the booze. And then I just self-prescribe tequila. So
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, it's clear. Clear liquor is more refined
- 9:04Speaker 1: and distilled.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Tired Google history.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, just me arguing with the internet. No, just some person.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Give me one alcoholic doctor who'd be like, all right,
- 9:16Speaker 1: we know you're going to keep drinking, but this is
- 9:19Speaker 1: what you should drink. If you're going to drink, this
- 9:20Speaker 1: is what you should drink with. I just came up
- 9:25Speaker 1: with a necessary resource. Like, oh, I have a cold.
- 9:29Speaker 1: but I still want to party. Hot toddy. You know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: someone direct you in the right way. Like if you're
- 9:34Speaker 1: going to drink, drink this.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 7: What type of weed should I smoke? Like, should it
- 9:38Speaker 7: be a vape? Should usually a vape.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So, okay. Okay. So you would go with the weed,
- 9:43Speaker 1: the weed way of how you should ingest that. I
- 9:45Speaker 1: can't smoke weed at all. I'll do it, but I'm
- 9:48Speaker 1: just real quiet, real quiet. And as a comedian, we're like, oh,
- 9:53Speaker 1: but he's being funny. And I'll start saying something like, yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: it's like that. I'm like, just shut up right away.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Did it the other night. That's what happened the other
- 10:01Speaker 1: night to me.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I think I'm normally like that.
- 10:03Speaker 5: I don't need any help from that. Well, I did, again,
- 10:08Speaker 5: I noticed, and this happened recently. I had somebody and
- 10:11Speaker 5: I talked to him and we talked about movies nonstop.
- 10:13Speaker 5: And then they went and did their set and came
- 10:15Speaker 5: off later and came over and they were like, I
- 10:17Speaker 5: didn't realize how many movie references I had in my
- 10:20Speaker 5: act until we just went and sat on there and
- 10:23Speaker 5: had a whole big conversation about it.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I was self-aware.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, you worked a few in there.
- 10:28Speaker 2: There were some good subtle ones, too. So I was like, obviously,
- 10:31Speaker 2: it's something that kind of crosses over.
- 10:33Speaker 5: And that's kind of what I like doing with this
- 10:35Speaker 5: show is just sort of finding the way that film.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Crosses over into all the art forms. So I'm assuming
- 10:42Speaker 2: you've been a movie fan most of your life.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know anybody who's not.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I feel that way.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Who doesn't like movies.
- 10:49Speaker 5: And then I run into, I meet people and I'm like, wow,
- 10:53Speaker 5: you have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm like,
- 10:55Speaker 5: not just like hardcore geek references, but like, I will
- 10:58Speaker 5: actually like legitimately be talking about something and it'll just
- 11:01Speaker 5: be like, I don't know, I don't like it. And like,
- 11:03Speaker 5: I run into people like that.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Well, I realize, like I was thinking about the other day,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm not like a big fan of anything there's stuff
- 11:10Speaker 1: i like but i've never liked something so much or
- 11:13Speaker 1: like i need to know every single thing about this
- 11:16Speaker 1: i need to know the history of it i need
- 11:18Speaker 1: it and i was one i'm like oh it just
- 11:20Speaker 1: makes me kind of a like a shitty person like
- 11:23Speaker 1: like it's not just what not obsessive like most people
- 11:27Speaker 1: but it's not even obsessed but i don't even have
- 11:28Speaker 1: i don't even know my history with comedy and that's
- 11:31Speaker 1: what i do for a living but i don't even
- 11:33Speaker 1: know like have you heard George Carlin's album? Nope. No,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I haven't.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Nope. Never.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Nobody played it for me. I don't listen to comedy
- 11:40Speaker 1: albums at all now because part of me is paranoid
- 11:42Speaker 1: because I'm trying to make comedy. I want to preserve
- 11:46Speaker 1: the natural. Do you ever get, I don't know, if
- 11:49Speaker 1: you get the whole The Simpsons did it thing that
- 11:52Speaker 1: South Park did where every joke you try to write,
- 11:54Speaker 1: you just know who else wrote that joke ahead of time.
- 11:56Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, George Carlin wrote everything that we ever
- 12:00Speaker 7: thought to observe, so there's no point of doing observational comedy.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, all comedy has been done. But that's the same
- 12:07Speaker 1: thing with all movies and everything. Every idea has been done.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's like when you try to put a joke on Twitter. Boof,
- 12:12Speaker 1: you stole it. You fucking idiot. No. Sometimes people have
- 12:17Speaker 1: simultaneous ideas, or I don't know every single joke that's
- 12:22Speaker 1: ever been created on Earth.
- 12:25Speaker 2: That's why you have to be researching constantly.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I can't eat this peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Somebody
- 12:30Speaker 1: else already invented peanut butter and jelly. Shut the fuck
- 12:32Speaker 1: up and enjoy things.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So I, I think, I mean, I get that way too.
- 12:37Speaker 5: I'm super selective about shows that I listen to now,
- 12:41Speaker 5: mostly because I don't want anything too similar to what
- 12:43Speaker 5: I'm already doing.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm already doing that. I don't need to
- 12:44Speaker 2: hear that.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Like, so. Thank God you got the only movie podcast
- 12:48Speaker 1: on there.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Thank God. There are none.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Nobody's dipping into that action.
- 12:54Speaker 2: It's rare that I find one that's been doing it
- 12:56Speaker 2: as long as I have.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It's the sad thing. How long have you been at
- 12:59Speaker 1: the movie podcast?
- 13:00Speaker 2: It's about eight years. Really?
- 13:01Speaker 1: I don't think I knew what podcasts were eight years ago.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Most people did. Granted, most people don't now.
- 13:06Speaker 5: But the handful that do still, yeah, it's still a
- 13:09Speaker 5: fight now because everybody has one.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I tried to listen to True Crime once, and then
- 13:14Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I'm interested in this, and I'm dark.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And then someone was like, I can't. This is hurting
- 13:17Speaker 1: my heart. It hurts my heart too much. When I
- 13:22Speaker 1: started a day, I forget what it was. It was
- 13:27Speaker 1: in the hotel room, like, not today. Not today. I
- 13:30Speaker 1: was like, I'm going to have a good meal today,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and it's sunny out, and everything's great. And this guy's like,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and then the baby was found. And I'm like, no, no. Yeah. Why?
- 13:42Speaker 1: I like how sensitive you are. It's not, like... He
- 13:46Speaker 1: loves babies.
- 13:46Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with that. He doesn't want babies to die?
- 13:50Speaker 1: It was, yeah, it was something like murder stuff I
- 13:52Speaker 1: could listen to, but then if it's murder but not, like,
- 13:57Speaker 1: sex stuff, murder's, like, I'll listen to that. That's terrible.
- 14:04Speaker 1: To be like, murder? I mean, I'm all about it.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'm going to listen to that murder stuff, but when it's, like,
- 14:09Speaker 1: abuse or anything like that, I'm like, ugh.
- 14:11Speaker 5: It's a different level of creepy, which it seems like
- 14:13Speaker 5: it should all just be creepy, but like there is.
- 14:16Speaker 2: A little difference in our brain.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Well, it's okay. We'll go to the movie, the movie thing.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Like what, what is it about? Like I was listening,
- 14:25Speaker 1: listening to some podcasts. My girlfriend's just like, why, what
- 14:28Speaker 1: do you want to know? Why do you want to
- 14:31Speaker 1: know this?
- 14:32Speaker 3: What?
- 14:32Speaker 1: And I don't, I don't know. I'm not like, Oh, cool.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I'm not like a 15 year old metal head, but I, I'm,
- 14:41Speaker 1: fascinated with the capabilities of human beings whether positive or
- 14:46Speaker 1: negative like i i watch that i watch my 600
- 14:49Speaker 1: pound life i have every cable channel and i watch
- 14:53Speaker 1: nothing but horseshit tlc shows not horses but like and
- 14:58Speaker 1: not to make fun of it i'm just fascinated by
- 15:01Speaker 1: these people who in their light like could get To
- 15:06Speaker 1: a size, and not as a joke, but that is
- 15:08Speaker 1: almost just as amazing as somebody's going to wear a
- 15:10Speaker 1: wingsuit and jump off of a mountain and try and
- 15:13Speaker 1: fly like a bird. It's still this amazing thing that's
- 15:17Speaker 1: not in a celebratory way, but you did this.
- 15:21Speaker 2: You invest a lot more time than that wingsuit.
- 15:23Speaker 1: It's years to get to that point. But I'm not
- 15:25Speaker 1: making fun of it, but I'm fascinated with it. What
- 15:30Speaker 1: is your life like now that, and that's what the
- 15:33Speaker 1: show's about. Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I mean, there's a lot of those out there. I'm
- 15:38Speaker 2: overwhelmed by reality. I'm using quotes, reality television, because it's
- 15:42Speaker 2: far from reality. It's far.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And it's one of these people, like, wouldn't you, like,
- 15:47Speaker 1: is it only because it's the only way to get
- 15:48Speaker 1: help paid for if you volunteer for freak show television?
- 15:53Speaker 1: And so instead of being able to go through the
- 15:54Speaker 1: struggle privately, you have to have cameras filming you. going through.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I'm fascinated with it.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Since we're on this weird tangent anyway, have you seen...
- 16:06Speaker 5: This is one that hits really odd because they're also
- 16:09Speaker 5: shooting it near here. But there's one that they just
- 16:12Speaker 5: started that is people... They've never been arrested. They've never
- 16:17Speaker 5: been involved in crimes.
- 16:19Speaker 2: And they put them in a jail. They're shooting that
- 16:21Speaker 2: across the river here.
- 16:23Speaker 1: It's right over here.
- 16:25Speaker 5: And I'm just like, what in hell? What would possess
- 16:29Speaker 5: you to want to be on that show? You're probably
- 16:32Speaker 5: going to get knifed. Like, on a good day, you
- 16:36Speaker 5: don't die.
- 16:36Speaker 1: They had people, and then they explained their reasons for it. Like,
- 16:40Speaker 1: some were police officers, and they wanted to know, like,
- 16:42Speaker 1: why are people in prison? Like, there was a legitimate
- 16:45Speaker 1: sociological reason for some of the people in there. But
- 16:48Speaker 1: then you could tell the reality show would be, like,
- 16:49Speaker 1: the one nutty dude they put in there because I
- 16:52Speaker 1: looked into it. He was on some other TLC dingbat shows,
- 16:56Speaker 1: like Extreme Couponers or something. Like, this guy's got a
- 17:00Speaker 1: lot of loose wires crossed, and throw him in there
- 17:02Speaker 1: if he wants to do it. I just want to
- 17:04Speaker 1: be on TV. Quit like a weekend, yeah. That's all
- 17:06Speaker 1: I want is to be on TV. Yeah, we need something.
- 17:08Speaker 1: We need some watchability. I mean, these other people are
- 17:11Speaker 1: doing it for everybody. But to see police officers, like,
- 17:14Speaker 1: in the way they're breaking down, getting caught up in
- 17:16Speaker 1: just the microcosm, the psychological microcosm of being in a prison...
- 17:21Speaker 1: and caught up in the bullshit drama that wouldn't mean
- 17:23Speaker 1: anything anywhere else except you're inside of a closed space.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I remember just working in an office and like the
- 17:30Speaker 1: dumbest thing, but because the dumbest things would affect you.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Like I remember the woman who worked the front desk,
- 17:37Speaker 1: like she would also like be in charge of a
- 17:39Speaker 1: little cafeteria area and anybody that would finish the coffee
- 17:42Speaker 1: and then not turn off the burner and leave the
- 17:44Speaker 1: pot on. And then back in the like the data
- 17:48Speaker 1: entry part, everybody's like, oh, I guess I forgot. And
- 17:50Speaker 1: she'd come back like, I tell you over and over again.
- 17:54Speaker 1: You turn it off, you're going to ruin the pot,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and then nobody's going to have coffee. I'm like, boy,
- 17:58Speaker 1: she's real nuts. Oh, yeah, no, I get it. I
- 18:01Speaker 1: get it entirely. It's people who spend all this time
- 18:03Speaker 1: in an enclosed space, and somebody's laugh gets on your nerve,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and somebody's voice gets on your nerve. I forgot about that.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And then watching that prison show, right? I mean, I
- 18:11Speaker 1: don't know.
- 18:12Speaker 2: This is how you end up in prison.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 2: You kill that person with a laugh.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And then you're like, oh, yeah, it's the same place.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I remember that. I was one of those people. I'm
- 18:20Speaker 1: tightly wound. I go off on revenge fantasies if somebody
- 18:23Speaker 1: doesn't use their turn signal in front of me. And
- 18:26Speaker 1: it'd be like two hours later. I'm like, and then
- 18:29Speaker 1: they'll never find your body. Like I will plan out this.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I shouldn't confess. Cause nowadays, well, nowadays, like if you,
- 18:37Speaker 1: like you use people, we'll find people, find your old tweets.
- 18:42Speaker 2: You can use that again.
- 18:43Speaker 1: You called somebody fat once. I was just dropping, being
- 18:48Speaker 1: an ass.
- 18:48Speaker 5: We've all, The only thing more disturbing is when people
- 18:54Speaker 5: respond to things from that far back.
- 18:56Speaker 1: That's what I don't know about. I wrote something about
- 18:59Speaker 1: playing Kansas City. I'm like, not sure if it's Missouri
- 19:03Speaker 1: or Kansas. Use the thing you're reading, son. Look it up.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Somebody was like, you said the same thing last year
- 19:09Speaker 1: and just had the tweet. I'm like, how did you
- 19:10Speaker 1: find this? I don't even know how to find this.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Today, somebody commented on the show's Facebook page. It was
- 19:16Speaker 5: just like some two-word comment or something. From something in 2013,
- 19:21Speaker 5: I think.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I'm like, what are you doing?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm glad you're paying attention to me, but get
- 19:28Speaker 1: a life.
- 19:30Speaker 5: I don't even know who you are, so you're probably
- 19:31Speaker 5: not paying attention to me. What rabbit hole did you
- 19:33Speaker 5: fall down that you got to this page?
- 19:36Speaker 1: People that have free time. I fall for it. I
- 19:39Speaker 1: fall for trolls. I still fall.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:43Speaker 1: You go to them like you have 40,000 tweets and
- 19:46Speaker 1: 29 followers and you just saying stuff to nobody. But
- 19:52Speaker 1: because the way Twitter's designed, because you can read it,
- 19:55Speaker 1: you think everybody else can read it and it's not true.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And I fall for it. I get that.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 20:05Speaker 1: What's your favorite movie, Joelle? Gone with the Wind. Really?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Straight up? Real classic?
- 20:11Speaker 2: Straight up.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Never seen it.
- 20:12Speaker 4: I mean.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I've seen it.
- 20:15Speaker 1: That's again... I should know... I should know... I should
- 20:19Speaker 1: know that movie. That's the movie. Citizen Kane? Nope. Tried
- 20:24Speaker 1: to watch it on an airplane. Fell asleep 10 minutes in.
- 20:26Speaker 2: What's your oldest movie that you know?
- 20:29Speaker 1: The oldest movie I know?
- 20:30Speaker 7: That you love and have seen.
- 20:35Speaker 8: Oldest?
- 20:35Speaker 1: That's a good question. What's the oldest... I don't know
- 20:41Speaker 1: the date of.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I was trying to watch some classics. Classics meaning like
- 20:48Speaker 1: 70s and 60s stuff. So I was watching like Easy Rider.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And I didn't like it. I was like, this is... No!
- 20:57Speaker 1: Just these two fucking yutzes.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I think a lot of people come to that now.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Stone dudes made a movie. Great. You know who did
- 21:03Speaker 1: it better? Cheech and Chong. Fuck off.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I like the insanity of Dennis Hopper, but he gets
- 21:10Speaker 5: a little better the more he polishes up a few
- 21:12Speaker 5: years later.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I have bad taste. You want to know where I
- 21:15Speaker 1: like Dennis Hopper the best in? Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I will not argue that.
- 21:20Speaker 1: In my science project.
- 21:21Speaker 2: That you're forgetting King Koopa in Super Mario Brothers.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Never saw it.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Oh, my God. It's amazing. Was it Bob Hoopland? Bob Hoskins.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Bob Hoskins? John Liquisamo.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Couldn't get out of that cartoon world.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Samantha Mathis. Wait, what are your favorite movies? See, I'm
- 21:40Speaker 2: all over the place.
- 21:41Speaker 5: I mean, I can hit so many, but that, and
- 21:44Speaker 5: I think this goes back to what you were saying
- 21:45Speaker 5: before about like feeling like you don't know the history
- 21:47Speaker 5: of everything. Like, I try to look at it the
- 21:49Speaker 5: other way because there's so many movies out there and
- 21:53Speaker 5: I've just like scratched the surface and I feel like
- 21:56Speaker 5: I'm a geek and I've watched a lot of stuff
- 21:57Speaker 5: and then every once in a while I will listen
- 21:58Speaker 5: to like another movie podcast and they'll rattle off like
- 22:01Speaker 5: three or four that I'm like, shit.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Have I not even heard of those?
- 22:04Speaker 2: And they're like not current movie.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Like they're old movies.
- 22:07Speaker 2: I'm like, how have I not seen that yet? But
- 22:09Speaker 2: I kind of, I try to spin it the other way.
- 22:10Speaker 2: I'm like, well, good.
- 22:11Speaker 5: That means I'm never done. It's like, I don't finish
- 22:13Speaker 5: this interest of mine. So I'm like writing those down.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I'm like, now I got to track down this movie.
- 22:18Speaker 5: So I'm like, to me, it's like, I've always got
- 22:20Speaker 5: more to get to on this, this movie journey.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I would say like movies that like, like I could
- 22:27Speaker 1: just have on the back. Like I'm comfortable that they're around.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Like Raising Arizona and Big Trouble in Little China. Two
- 22:36Speaker 1: movies that I'm just like, oh, good. Glad that's there.
- 22:41Speaker 1: That's been great since I was a kid. But then
- 22:43Speaker 1: I like scary movies a whole bunch. I love that.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I think that's invigorating is to be afraid from scary
- 22:54Speaker 1: ghost stuff, not from real life terror. But scary... Yeah,
- 22:58Speaker 1: that's a different type of fear is that there'll be
- 23:02Speaker 1: a nuclear missile hitting us. But Ghosts and Goblins, I
- 23:06Speaker 1: love it. I will go in real life and try
- 23:08Speaker 1: and fight Ghosts and Goblins because I just... I was
- 23:10Speaker 1: in a cemetery last night in Indiana. Just having a
- 23:13Speaker 1: good time. Nice one up the street here. Yeah, that
- 23:16Speaker 1: stuff I love. And so scary movies. Oh, I just watched...
- 23:22Speaker 1: a couple good ones. And I can't remember the news.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Do you like the, cause there's a whole new wave
- 23:29Speaker 5: of new ghost slash demon movies in the last 10 years.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Annabelle, Annabelle got me.
- 23:34Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I watched Annabelle. You seen Annabelle? Yeah. Do you don't
- 23:38Speaker 1: watch any scary movies?
- 23:39Speaker 4: I don't. No.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I'm a sappy, like rom-com.
- 23:45Speaker 1: That's some of those.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I pick and choose on those, but every once in
- 23:49Speaker 2: a while, there's some good ones.
- 23:50Speaker 1: What was the one that, uh, Love Actually, that's another
- 23:53Speaker 1: one of those movies. If it's on, I'm like, yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 1: all right.
- 23:57Speaker 2: That's the fallback.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Usually if you ask, and I've seen this on many occasions,
- 24:02Speaker 5: if you ask a guy to pick a romantic comedy,
- 24:04Speaker 5: they kind of always.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Give them the Love Actually.
- 24:06Speaker 1: High fidelity.
- 24:08Speaker 5: That seems like more of a bitchy guy movie than
- 24:11Speaker 5: a real rom-com.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a dude.
- 24:15Speaker 2: It's a guy movie.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Romantic comedy. But yeah, like Annabelle, I watched Annabelle at
- 24:20Speaker 1: Home Alone. And like, if I can't sleep after, that's
- 24:23Speaker 1: a good movie. If I'm laying there like, son of
- 24:25Speaker 1: a bitch. Oh, damn it. Sixth Sense gave me creepiness.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Sixth Sense got you? Yeah, Sixth Sense was like, that
- 24:32Speaker 1: was the first one of everybody at the end. Like,
- 24:35Speaker 1: oh my God, it was, ah. Signs got me. Signs
- 24:40Speaker 1: was on, not, the end was stupid. But the lead
- 24:43Speaker 1: up of how- It's very tense. When they showed news
- 24:47Speaker 1: footage- of like, there's a newscast, there's creatures invading, and
- 24:54Speaker 1: they show a news clip of, it was a birthday
- 24:56Speaker 1: party in Central America or something, and you just see
- 24:59Speaker 1: it walk by in the background. That one got me good.
- 25:02Speaker 1: That was a movie I saw in the theaters with
- 25:05Speaker 1: a buddy who, it showed some scene where there's a
- 25:08Speaker 1: creature on the barn, and you just see the silhouette
- 25:11Speaker 1: of it, and nobody in the theater saw it but
- 25:13Speaker 1: me and my buddy, so he's like, did you just
- 25:16Speaker 1: see that? I was like, I saw it too. And
- 25:20Speaker 1: we were both, ooh, goddamn, this movie's got us. Like,
- 25:23Speaker 1: we're on board. And then the end was dumb as hell.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And the sign said, long-haired freaky people need not apply.
- 25:35Speaker 4: So I tucked.
- 25:36Speaker 6: My hair up under my hat and I went in
- 25:39Speaker 6: to ask him why. He said, you look like a fine,
- 25:44Speaker 6: upstanding young man.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I think you do.
- 25:47Speaker 6: So I took off my hat and said, imagine that, ha,
- 25:51Speaker 6: me working for you. Sign, sign, everywhere I sign.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Walking out the scene.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I be breaking my mind. Do this, don't do that.
- 26:01Speaker 6: Can't you read the sign?
- 26:11Speaker 4: It's intermission time. So how about taking a break? Get
- 26:14Speaker 4: out and stretch a little and relax before the show
- 26:17Speaker 4: begins again. And why not make it refreshment time, too?
- 26:21Speaker 4: We have lots of tasty, delicious treats waiting for you
- 26:25Speaker 4: at the refreshment center. Our courteous attendants are ready and

- 26:34Speaker 4: up and make yourself at home.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Nothing can stop it.
- 26:42Speaker 4: The Blob.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Starring Steve McQueen.
- 26:44Speaker 1: It creeps.
- 26:45Speaker 4: It crawls.
- 26:45Speaker 1: It's slithery. It's slimy.
- 26:47Speaker 4: The Blob.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Plus dinosaurs, both in shrieking color.

- 28:18Speaker 2: That's part of your problem, you know.
- 28:21Speaker 4: You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are
- 28:23Speaker 4: answered in the movies.
- 28:24Speaker 5: And now, on with the show.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Last night, he could not make it. He tried hard,
- 28:27Speaker 4: but he could not make it.
- 28:28Speaker 9: Last night, he could not make.
- 28:35Speaker 2: It.
- 28:49Speaker 6: So many miles looking for a place to stay near
- 28:53Speaker 6: some friendly star.
- 28:55Speaker 2: He found this moose and.
- 28:59Speaker 7: Now we wonder where we are.
- 29:01Speaker 9: How could this old grace.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Turn so shitty?
- 29:07Speaker 5: He ended up in army creeds and photographs and files.
- 29:34Speaker 2: It's one of those, yeah, it's just like such a
- 29:35Speaker 2: loophole in logic.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Even from the creature standpoint or the writing standpoint, I'm
- 29:41Speaker 5: not sure which is dumber, really, but it's the same
- 29:44Speaker 5: as War of the Worlds.
- 29:45Speaker 1: That one, I like the beginning of that.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Even the old version, the story itself.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I'm like, these aliens are kind of idiots if they
- 29:52Speaker 5: don't do a little investigation before they come down here.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Well, I mean, we're always trying to put aliens as
- 29:57Speaker 1: a higher form of intelligence, but what if the only
- 30:00Speaker 1: smart thing they did was figure out space travel?
- 30:04Speaker 2: That's one of the.
- 30:05Speaker 1: iPhones. Yeah, that's it.
- 30:07Speaker 2: So they're like us. They've got a lot of cool
- 30:09Speaker 2: technical stuff, but they're kind of dumb, really.
- 30:11Speaker 1: As a species. Yeah, they put their technology in a trap,
- 30:13Speaker 1: but they're like, no, culturally, we don't give a shit,
- 30:16Speaker 1: but we need to make this stuff. We need more
- 30:18Speaker 1: little robot things. That's what we need.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that was the.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Something like Independence Day. I'm like, those aliens seem about
- 30:25Speaker 5: as dumb as we do. We open a ship, we
- 30:28Speaker 5: punch them in the face. That's probably what they were
- 30:30Speaker 5: going to do to us.
- 30:31Speaker 2: We're both kind of the same level of dumb. They've
- 30:33Speaker 2: just got a little bit better technology.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I like how aliens are always of a comparative size. Like, okay,
- 30:40Speaker 1: I'm going to allow that I believe that beings can
- 30:42Speaker 1: exist elsewhere. Also, arms and legs. They got arms and legs. No,
- 30:46Speaker 1: they're not microscopic or they're not some nebula.
- 30:49Speaker 2: It's a blob. No, thank you.
- 30:50Speaker 1: It's not an idea of just energy that can form
- 30:53Speaker 1: and disform.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Easily punchable.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah, no. It's like maybe it's got three eyes or
- 30:58Speaker 1: one eyes or something. That's pretty weird, right?
- 31:00Speaker 2: The Star Trek, the rule is they got to have
- 31:02Speaker 2: some sort of nubs on their face. They like a
- 31:04Speaker 2: lot of nubs.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Yeah, just give them skin conditions.
- 31:06Speaker 2: They're still humanoid, but they got some sort of bumps somewhere.
- 31:08Speaker 2: That's all they need.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Well, that's just a makeup budget. Nowadays it's inexcusable, but
- 31:13Speaker 1: Star Trek, yeah, okay, I understand.
- 31:16Speaker 2: So you cross over into sci-fi, obviously.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know any of that stuff. That stuff
- 31:21Speaker 1: lost me early on, sci-fi.
- 31:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I think my dad took me to see Empire Strikes
- 31:27Speaker 1: Back in the theater, but I have no allegiance to
- 31:29Speaker 1: Star Wars. I don't care.
- 31:31Speaker 2: You might get kicked out of the country at this point.
- 31:35Speaker 4: No.
- 31:35Speaker 7: I've never seen.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Ooh, all right.
- 31:37Speaker 2: There you go. That's almost becoming hip at this point. Like,
- 31:40Speaker 2: I've met many persons like, Star Wars. See, yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 5: It just seems like you haven't seen it. But every
- 31:46Speaker 5: once in a while, I'll run into somebody who likes
- 31:48Speaker 5: to brag a little too much that they haven't seen
- 31:49Speaker 5: Star Wars. I'm like, well, now we're just going to
- 31:52Speaker 5: make you sit down and watch it. Like, you're getting
- 31:53Speaker 5: too much points out of this.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't... I envy you.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I envy.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I envy... Well, you know, no, not... Okay, it's just
- 32:03Speaker 1: that everything... Just the whole world gets butt-fucked as soon
- 32:09Speaker 1: as a new Star Wars movie comes out.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I mean, it does come to a screeching halt.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And it's just, yeah, just every collectible and every single
- 32:20Speaker 1: thing is Star Wars. It's like, oh, God, just how
- 32:23Speaker 1: much money do you need? How much money?
- 32:29Speaker 5: So much so that when George sold it off, he gave...
- 32:33Speaker 5: billion dollars to charity because he didn't need it he
- 32:36Speaker 5: had so much oh all right from the last.
- 32:38Speaker 1: So i'm the dickheads i don't care about the mcdonald's
- 32:41Speaker 1: cups that come out.
- 32:42Speaker 5: That's what i'm like when you get to the point
- 32:44Speaker 5: where you sell off one of the biggest money-making franchises
- 32:47Speaker 5: and then don't take a penny from it i'm like
- 32:50Speaker 5: that means you've spent the last since what 77 making
- 32:55Speaker 5: so much money off of merchandise that your children's children's
- 33:00Speaker 5: children will never, ever want for money again.
- 33:02Speaker 2: So you're just like, I don't know. Money doesn't even
- 33:04Speaker 2: mean anything anymore. Take it, do something good.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Does George Lucas have kids?
- 33:08Speaker 5: Yes.
- 33:09Speaker 7: He does, and he has a beautiful black wife who
- 33:11Speaker 7: is my hero.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Oh, really? Do you think she's never in Star Wars either,
- 33:15Speaker 1: and that's what makes it work? That's why I liked it.
- 33:17Speaker 2: She was the only other.
- 33:19Speaker 1: You know nothing about me? I'll marry you right now.
- 33:22Speaker 1: You don't know who I am? You just like my
- 33:25Speaker 1: weird chin beard?
- 33:27Speaker 2: My billions of dollars.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I have my own ranch.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Does that help? Just saw him at an IHOP getting down.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I like this guy. This guy's confident for being a
- 33:37Speaker 1: hotter looking fella.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Put away pancakes. Going home to a ranch. I'm sold.
- 33:43Speaker 1: She just comes home. You playing with your little toys
- 33:47Speaker 1: and aliens.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Again, George?
- 33:48Speaker 1: I don't. All right, listen. I know it puts food
- 33:51Speaker 1: on the table, but I don't need. Oh, look at that.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I was getting him.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Confused with a bigger person.
- 34:00Speaker 2: No, he's super small. It's all the neck. He just
- 34:03Speaker 2: got all neck.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Super black wife. He knows what he's doing.
- 34:08Speaker 2: He knows what he's doing.
- 34:10Speaker 1: So the ultimate nerd is way more down than everybody thinks.
- 34:14Speaker 2: It's always interesting.
- 34:16Speaker 1: That's all right. This is good to know. Now I
- 34:18Speaker 1: got a little more interest in the Star Wars franchise.
- 34:21Speaker 2: There you go. Well, that was my thing.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Some pasty loner just masturbating and playing with dolls the
- 34:26Speaker 1: whole time.
- 34:30Speaker 2: You just described all his fans. Yes, all his fans. George.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Okay, George. All right, G-Luke. All right.
- 34:42Speaker 2: You find out these personal facts about him.
- 34:45Speaker 5: The one time he's super reclusive, but I finally get
- 34:49Speaker 5: to see Robert De Niro out on the town.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I'm like, oh.
- 34:52Speaker 1: All right. Cool.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Didn't know that.
- 34:57Speaker 5: Seems to be his thing because he's got a couple
- 34:59Speaker 5: of different girlfriends now.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I'm like, all right.
- 35:01Speaker 1: That's fine in a woman who's not into any of
- 35:03Speaker 1: your shit. You just have the purest form of love.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Not tainted by it. You leave the work at the ranch, George.
- 35:12Speaker 1: You come home and we just handle things. My girlfriend
- 35:18Speaker 1: works in the business. We can't do that. What does
- 35:22Speaker 1: she do?
- 35:23Speaker 7: She's a financial CEO, finance.
- 35:27Speaker 1: She's just got her own money.
- 35:28Speaker 2: She doesn't even need it. Handle the money.
- 35:31Speaker 4: All right.
- 35:32Speaker 1: You know what? I'll watch that new Star Wars now.
- 35:33Speaker 2: It's not bad.
- 35:35Speaker 1: All right. You know what now?
- 35:37Speaker 5: Actually, if you haven't seen the other ones.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Soda's never seen any of the Star Wars. That's convinced
- 35:44Speaker 1: me I should really be paying attention to Star Wars.
- 35:46Speaker 5: If you haven't seen the other ones, it kind of
- 35:48Speaker 5: reboots it and gives you all the other ones rolled
- 35:50Speaker 5: into one movie anyway.
- 35:51Speaker 2: So you're good just starting at seven.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Does it? I remember I watched it as a little kid,
- 35:56Speaker 1: and then I remember I just thought Luke Skywalker was
- 36:01Speaker 1: just like a baby the whole time. Like, I'm a kid.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I'm like, I hate this dude. Even though he becomes
- 36:08Speaker 1: the hero, I still couldn't stand him. And then I
- 36:12Speaker 1: just stopped. And then I think I saw the one
- 36:15Speaker 1: with the Ewoks in the theater. And I was like, ah,
- 36:18Speaker 1: it's fun or whatever. But that's what I feel bad about.
- 36:22Speaker 1: What was I passionate about as a kid? That this
- 36:25Speaker 1: stuff carried over into people. They kept it through their
- 36:32Speaker 1: whole lives.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I was one of those. I won't pretend. I was
- 36:35Speaker 2: one of those.
- 36:36Speaker 1: I don't know anything. I could talk about professional BMX
- 36:39Speaker 1: riders for a very specific era of the 80s and
- 36:41Speaker 1: early 90s.
- 36:42Speaker 2: So you're like Rad.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Rad as a film. As a classic. But
- 36:46Speaker 1: even then, as kind of a cheesy movie.
- 36:49Speaker 2: BMX Bandits.
- 36:50Speaker 1: But BMX Bandits. First time you ever see Nicole Kidman
- 36:54Speaker 1: in a BMX Bandits movie. But more of a Gleaming
- 36:57Speaker 1: the Cube guy and thrashing some skateboard fans.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I own that at home.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 37:02Speaker 7: My blackness does not compute these phrases.
- 37:05Speaker 9: Skateboarding every once in a while there's skateboarders not so
- 37:10Speaker 9: much bmx's bmx was much more of the hillbilly cousin
- 37:14Speaker 9: of skateboarding skateboarding was cool.
- 37:17Speaker 2: That it's the whitest video game i've ever.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Seen that that was part of my early love for
- 37:26Speaker 1: california as a whole because like the license plate was
- 37:28Speaker 1: on the front it was the old life i'd see
- 37:30Speaker 1: that license plate in california i'm like I missed that
- 37:33Speaker 1: license plate because it had the sun in the middle
- 37:34Speaker 1: of it and you surfed and you skateboarded and there
- 37:38Speaker 1: was BMX and there was some other weird stuff at
- 37:41Speaker 1: the time. Yeah, yeah. And I was trying to get
- 37:44Speaker 1: my friend to play all the time. I was like,
- 37:45Speaker 1: this game's boring. I'm like, man, it's California.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Look at the digital sun.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Maybe that's what I think I was a nerd about
- 37:52Speaker 1: was being in the Midwest and just wanting to get
- 37:56Speaker 1: the fuck out for so long. Anything California, any BMX magazine,
- 38:01Speaker 1: I could just see them like, look at that Venice Beach.
- 38:04Speaker 2: They're just hanging out there.
- 38:05Speaker 1: They're just hanging out. Like, look at any TV show
- 38:10Speaker 1: where the lockers were outside. Lockers are just outside. Because outside,
- 38:14Speaker 1: you can just go outside the whole year. Like, you're
- 38:18Speaker 1: just eating lunch outside at school. You can just do
- 38:22Speaker 1: that in California.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Damn you, 90210 kids. Look at them.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Look at them just outside. I hate you so much.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I'm going to shovel snow by the time I get
- 38:29Speaker 1: to the other driveway. I'm going to shovel the driveway again.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Fuck this place. Nothing's rusted. I don't even know what
- 38:35Speaker 1: rust is.
- 38:36Speaker 2: You were Illinois, weren't you? Yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 1: There's no... I kicked a hole in my car once
- 38:42Speaker 1: trying to knock snow off the rocker panel under the
- 38:45Speaker 1: door because it collects when you drive and my foot
- 38:48Speaker 1: went through the rust in the side of my car
- 38:51Speaker 1: and I was like fuck this place I gotta get
- 38:55Speaker 1: out of here see I.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Had a little of that I remember being like totally
- 38:58Speaker 5: interested in the Hollywood part of it not realizing the
- 39:01Speaker 5: seedy underbelly.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Part of it but just the very like beach.
- 39:06Speaker 5: And bright lights and all of that nonsense and And
- 39:09Speaker 5: some of it translated into the movies because I had
- 39:12Speaker 5: that moment at some point.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I loved Summer School. Still do.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Another good one.
- 39:17Speaker 6: Still do.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Another good one.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Carl Reiner masterpiece.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Chainsaw.
- 39:21Speaker 5: I started talking to, I had somebody else who loved
- 39:25Speaker 5: it and I was like, oh, we should do a
- 39:25Speaker 5: whole episode on it.
- 39:26Speaker 2: And she was born and raised in California. And we
- 39:29Speaker 2: got Midway.
- 39:30Speaker 5: In i went and then i'm just like looking out
- 39:32Speaker 5: the window at the beach and then they just take
- 39:34Speaker 5: off in the middle of the day and they go
- 39:36Speaker 5: surf and they come and i'm like it's not.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Tell me it's not really like that she's like yeah
- 39:39Speaker 2: it kind of is i'm.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Like i fucking hate you it's totally like it's totally
- 39:44Speaker 1: like that yeah don't expect any kind of customer service
- 39:50Speaker 1: by the beach everybody is just heat stroke or taking
- 39:54Speaker 1: the day off doing shows trying to do a set
- 40:00Speaker 1: sucks beach trash burnt out don't care about anything you're
- 40:05Speaker 1: doing if I can't surf I'm just going to get
- 40:07Speaker 1: drunk and have fun which I would love to do
- 40:10Speaker 1: I just don't want to do comedy for those people
- 40:13Speaker 1: what were other good California California movies like just I
- 40:19Speaker 1: still love driving by and recognizing anything from a movie
- 40:25Speaker 1: like that always I like that when I was like
- 40:26Speaker 1: a little kid even like they filmed Lucas at the
- 40:29Speaker 1: high school that I like not the one I went
- 40:31Speaker 1: to but like the same district and that was anybody
- 40:34Speaker 1: like oh you went to Glen Bar North or something
- 40:36Speaker 1: like that's the one where they filmed Lucas did you
- 40:39Speaker 1: see Lucas was Lucas there when they were filming it.
- 40:41Speaker 7: My high school they filmed Howard Stern's movie So a
- 40:45Speaker 7: portion of his movie was from my high school.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Private parts all over your high school.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Was that when he was in the era with the
- 40:51Speaker 1: bad hair and just hitting on ladies the whole time?
- 40:55Speaker 1: You were in New Jersey. Chicago had the North Side
- 41:01Speaker 1: and everything, so all the John Hughes movies. That's a
- 41:04Speaker 1: fun thing to do is because all the houses look
- 41:05Speaker 1: the same. If you were just with somebody, you'd be like, oh,
- 41:07Speaker 1: that's the Home Alone house. And then a block later,
- 41:10Speaker 1: you'd see the same looking house. Oh, no, no, wait.
- 41:12Speaker 1: That's the Home Alone house. Oh, no, wait. That's the
- 41:14Speaker 1: Ferris Bueller's house. That's the high school from Breakfast Club.
- 41:18Speaker 2: We just have stripes.
- 41:20Speaker 1: There's stripes down here?
- 41:21Speaker 5: The very beginning where he's like the cab driver and
- 41:24Speaker 5: he goes on the bridge and like tosses the keys off,
- 41:27Speaker 5: that bridge is right on this river right here. It's
- 41:30Speaker 5: only about 15 minutes or so, the very first part.
- 41:34Speaker 5: As a kid, I was like, I know that!
- 41:37Speaker 2: The downtown scene where he's driving. I'm like, that's the street!
- 41:40Speaker 2: I've seen that street! We don't have much in this town.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I used to get so excited because I would watch
- 41:45Speaker 1: the beginning of Back to the Future and when he
- 41:47Speaker 1: skates away, like at the very beginning, he skates away
- 41:50Speaker 1: from Doc Brown's house past a Burger King. I'm like,
- 41:54Speaker 1: I eat at that Burger King! Look at this Burger King.
- 41:57Speaker 1: It's in San Francisco. Doc Brown's house isn't behind that
- 41:59Speaker 1: Burger King. Oh, movies.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Movie magic.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I was so delighted at editing.
- 42:05Speaker 2: If you ate at that Burger King, you could be
- 42:07Speaker 2: Marty McFly.
- 42:08Speaker 1: He's right there.
- 42:09Speaker 2: See, that was my plan. I just wanted to be
- 42:11Speaker 2: Marty McFly.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yeah, man. What about Eric Stoltz? You could have just
- 42:14Speaker 1: been Eric Stoltz.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Then I would have just got fired.
- 42:16Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I was being too arty and being a pain in
- 42:19Speaker 2: the ass.
- 42:19Speaker 1: He pulled it together.
- 42:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 2: He turned into a lot of good performances.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Spader? You want to go Spader?
- 42:24Speaker 4: Spader?
- 42:24Speaker 1: James Spader.
- 42:25Speaker 2: I just want to be a confident white man.
- 42:28Speaker 1: James Spader is doing a real good job of being
- 42:30Speaker 1: John Lithgow right now.
- 42:32Speaker 2: He graduated up to that point.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I didn't. I was like, John Lithgow looks good. Oh,
- 42:38Speaker 1: James Spader looks bad.
- 42:39Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 42:44Speaker 2: My question for you is.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Sorry, Jimmy Spader, if you're listening to the podcast. I
- 42:49Speaker 1: loved you in Pretty in Pink. You were such an asshole.
- 42:51Speaker 5: See, I was going to say, did you find him
- 42:54Speaker 5: super hot back then?
- 42:55Speaker 2: Like young James Spader?
- 42:58Speaker 7: It was like you're torn because it's like, okay, if
- 43:01Speaker 7: it was back in the day, he would have been
- 43:02Speaker 7: my master, but it's still sexy.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Not that far back.
- 43:06Speaker 4: Just the 80s.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I'm sorry I took it there. I mean, we weren't
- 43:10Speaker 2: that sophisticated in the 80s, but damn.
- 43:11Speaker 1: He seems like he would have been the most lackadaisical. Like, listen. Well,
- 43:22Speaker 1: I don't know how far I want to go with
- 43:24Speaker 1: this joke. Really? Okay. Of course he's wearing sunglasses because
- 43:29Speaker 1: you're outside.
- 43:30Speaker 2: In the field.
- 43:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Guys, look. I mean, we're working. I'm not going to
- 43:38Speaker 1: continue this impersonation of James Spader.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I was at least liking the impersonation. That was all right.
- 43:45Speaker 1: It's always the mean thing, and he's more of just
- 43:48Speaker 1: like sardonic.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I don't know. I was like, you know, come on.
- 43:54Speaker 2: I mean, it's a lot of work.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Get Molly Ringwald out of the sun.
- 44:00Speaker 5: She'll burn.
- 44:00Speaker 1: She'll burn.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Crazy ginger. Don't leave her out there.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Let's make a note that Joyelle is laughing at that.
- 44:12Speaker 7: James Spader as a slave master, ladies and gentlemen. If
- 44:15Speaker 7: anything came from this podcast.
- 44:17Speaker 2: We're going to start writing that screenplay is what we're
- 44:20Speaker 2: going to do.
- 44:21Speaker 1: He already was wearing white suits anyway, so he kind
- 44:24Speaker 1: of could transition from 80s dickhead into southern dickhead. 1880s
- 44:29Speaker 1: southern dickhead.
- 44:31Speaker 2: At some point, he still does a lot of coke.
- 44:34Speaker 5: He's still doing blow on a table somewhere.
- 44:38Speaker 2: In the middle of the movie.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Twirl in a julep.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Yeah. He gets in a sports car and drives. Convertible
- 44:49Speaker 2: because he's in California.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Motherfucker.
- 44:55Speaker 2: I didn't think it was going to go there.
- 44:57Speaker 1: We're in Kentucky. This is a little bit more sophisticated.
- 45:07Speaker 2: We like to tell ourselves. So, where do we go
- 45:14Speaker 2: from there?
- 45:14Speaker 1: I don't know. This is a pretty good closer. Let
- 45:18Speaker 1: the listeners put their own dialogue to James Spader's. He
- 45:22Speaker 1: swabbed it. You can't unthink it now. Now it's in
- 45:25Speaker 1: your head. Now who's bad? Who's the bad person? You're
- 45:29Speaker 1: thinking about it.
- 45:30Speaker 5: Usually I'll work in a hit. What have you seen lately?
- 45:33Speaker 5: So other than the horror.
- 45:35Speaker 2: What have you seen?
- 45:37Speaker 1: Mother's Day.
- 45:38Speaker 2: And loved it. The worst movie.
- 45:40Speaker 7: I've ever seen in my life. We accidentally tried to
- 45:44Speaker 7: go see Captain America, went into the wrong theater, so
- 45:46Speaker 7: the last 10 minutes was very confused. Asked for our
- 45:50Speaker 7: money back, and then we're like, let's go see Mother's Day,
- 45:52Speaker 7: and that was the biggest mistake of my life.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Did you see it for free then? No.
- 45:58Speaker 7: We gave our money back to the person mistakenly And
- 46:01Speaker 7: then we were the only two people in the theater.
- 46:03Speaker 7: And we screamed. I was as black as I could be.
- 46:08Speaker 7: I screamed at the screen.
- 46:12Speaker 1: How much of a movie do you watch? Because I'm like,
- 46:15Speaker 1: if I paid for it, I'm like, I'll watch this. Like,
- 46:19Speaker 1: I won't leave. Up to the end.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:21Speaker 1: But then at some point, I'm like, I'm. wasting my life.
- 46:25Speaker 1: This is time on Earth. This is time. When the
- 46:28Speaker 1: Reaper comes to get me, I should be like, well,
- 46:30Speaker 1: but I'm... I've watched Mother's Day. Can I get two
- 46:35Speaker 1: more hours?
- 46:35Speaker 2: I always think, what else.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Am I doing?
- 46:37Speaker 1: You're just going to talk about Mother's Day.
- 46:39Speaker 2: When I'm not watching movies, am I doing anything more useful?
- 46:42Speaker 2: Not really. At best, I'm editing this.
- 46:47Speaker 1: I can't think. What did I see in the theaters?
- 46:50Speaker 2: I saw....
- 46:54Speaker 1: Oh, the Cloverfield thing.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Oh, Cloverfield Lane.
- 46:58Speaker 1: The newer one. I liked that. I don't know.
- 47:00Speaker 2: What was your take on it?
- 47:01Speaker 1: It was real good. I dug it a lot. I
- 47:03Speaker 1: thought it was like a thriller inside of a sci-fi movie.
- 47:07Speaker 1: And it was just a tidy movie. It was a
- 47:08Speaker 1: solid movie. Good times, scary movie.
- 47:13Speaker 2: We did a whole thing on it.
- 47:14Speaker 5: Everybody else sitting there loved the whole first three fours
- 47:17Speaker 5: and didn't like the end.
- 47:18Speaker 2: I'm like, but you need the end. It doesn't work
- 47:21Speaker 2: without the end.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I thought everything was just a tidy little movie. That
- 47:24Speaker 1: and I saw Witch.
- 47:27Speaker 2: I have not seen Witch. What was the take on?
- 47:30Speaker 1: Witch was, it was a family that got cast out.
- 47:33Speaker 1: It was early settler time in America.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Starring James Spader.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I don't even think... Ah, there's some sort of witch.
- 47:43Speaker 1: They didn't even have... There wasn't slavery yet. It was pilgrims.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I don't feel like going to look for... Pilgrim spader.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I mean.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Just smoking at Indians. Like, all right. Corn and everything.
- 48:01Speaker 1: I mean... Let's burn her. Listen, I dig what you
- 48:06Speaker 1: guys are about with the feathers and all that, but... Listen,
- 48:12Speaker 1: how we live, you'll never understand. You'll never be one
- 48:17Speaker 1: of us.
- 48:18Speaker 2: If she drowns, she's innocent.
- 48:20Speaker 5: It's the only way to tell.
- 48:24Speaker 2: I don't make these rules. I just have to run
- 48:27Speaker 2: this town.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Oh, God. 80s Spader interjected to all of history. Oh, God.
- 48:36Speaker 2: I'm just picturing new eras. Gladiator, Spader.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Hitler, Spader. Hitler, Spader. I mean, guys, listen. These Jews,
- 48:47Speaker 1: I mean, they're just... What are we doing with them?
- 48:55Speaker 1: I'm holding a fake cigarette while I do this.
- 48:58Speaker 2: I could feel it.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Anyway, yeah, Witch was a pretty good movie. This is
- 49:02Speaker 1: about a witch.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Could have only been made better by the presence of
- 49:06Speaker 2: James Spader.
- 49:08Speaker 1: None of us have sounded like James Spader at all.
- 49:11Speaker 5: At any point. I'm just trying.
- 49:14Speaker 3: To get the.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Cadence down, really. Now you're you're on your own train
- 49:19Speaker 1: of thought with this one.
- 49:23Speaker 7: Shout out to me being the only black female in
- 49:25Speaker 7: your crowd tonight.
- 49:26Speaker 1: So the only one thank you so any other was
- 49:32Speaker 1: there any other black people.
- 49:33Speaker 7: There was one sort of questionable black person.
- 49:36Speaker 5: No, there's definitely a guy because he's of the little
- 49:39Speaker 5: comedy scene that we have.
- 49:40Speaker 2: He's at all the show. I'm always impressed. I'm like,
- 49:43Speaker 2: that dude is, yeah. Well, the one that I'm thinking of.
- 49:46Speaker 2: There might have been some other questionable.
- 49:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:49Speaker 2: No, this guy is not. He's definitely.
- 49:51Speaker 1: I know what I do.
- 49:52Speaker 2: He's hiding.
- 49:53Speaker 1: I know who I appeal to. I would like it
- 49:55Speaker 1: to be more diverse, but I don't know what. Sadly,
- 50:01Speaker 1: the comedy scene. They all look like you. Yep, they
- 50:05Speaker 1: sure do. I did it. That's what I wanted. Finally,
- 50:12Speaker 1: I broke through the door to my guys. I Hitler-spaded
- 50:16Speaker 1: my audience. Not Hitler.
- 50:18Speaker 2: He didn't want them to look like him.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Oh, that's true, yeah. He had a dark-haired Jew himself.
- 50:24Speaker 1: He wasn't too into it.
- 50:26Speaker 2: You did it, Kyle.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Oh, lucky me. Well, I think we need to go
- 50:34Speaker 1: drink whiskey now.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think at this point there's no way to
- 50:37Speaker 2: get out of this. Until Spader walks in the room
- 50:41Speaker 2: and rescues us all.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Spader.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Assuming that's not.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Going to happen. Are you watching The Blacklist then, Joy?
- 50:49Speaker 7: I'm not.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Okay. Your Spader love is fleeting.
- 50:54Speaker 7: It's a good title. I don't watch Black-ish either.
- 51:00Speaker 2: It's got some good episodes, though.
