- 0:22Speaker 1: Do It Live, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome to
- 0:28Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered, a special edition. As you just heard our
- 0:32Speaker 1: producer Matt Morrell say, we are live from Mini Camp
- 0:35Speaker 1: here at Jillette Stadium, high above Mini Camp, and as
- 0:39Speaker 1: we speak, Patriots are filtering onto the field getting ready
- 0:43Speaker 1: for the first part of their practice. I'm here Fred
- 0:45Speaker 1: Kursh with Paul Parolo, Mike Dussa, and Tamara Brown who
- 0:50Speaker 1: just joined us, and we'll be here until the end
- 0:53Speaker 1: of practice. Now, just so you know the rules, we'll
- 0:56Speaker 1: have live video on the field for certain portions of
- 1:01Speaker 1: the practice, but at twelve to twenty we're just gonna
- 1:04Speaker 1: go to audio because per rules, no cameras allowed after
- 1:08Speaker 1: twelve twenty. So up until that point you will be
- 1:11Speaker 1: able to cease things that are going on on the
- 1:14Speaker 1: field and you'll hear our commentary throughout, but we will
- 1:18Speaker 1: be with you until the end of practice. After twelve
- 1:21Speaker 1: twenty audio only, but still giving you what we see.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So guys, you know, Mike, Paul Tomorrow, what are you
- 1:28Speaker 1: looking for today? I'd like to see a little bit
- 1:30Speaker 1: of competitive period. We saw some OTA's last couple of weeks,
- 1:34Speaker 1: but not not a lot going on in those. But
- 1:38Speaker 1: these ones, I think they can maybe open up a
- 1:39Speaker 1: little seven on seven, a little at eleven on eleven. Maybe,
- 1:42Speaker 1: if we're lucky, see a little bit expanded. I mean,
- 1:45Speaker 1: if you're not gonna see tackling or anything like that,
- 1:47Speaker 1: but but but some competitive portions, I hope. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm looking, you know, and this sounds kind of silly,
- 1:52Speaker 1: but I'm looking at a tenants, Fred, I'm looking at
- 1:54Speaker 1: some of the guys that we haven't seen in the
- 1:56Speaker 1: first two times that we're out here for OTAs. It's
- 1:58Speaker 1: mandatory many camp and I'm already h you know, I
- 2:01Speaker 1: got eyeballs on a few of those guys. Isaiah Wynns one,
- 2:05Speaker 1: Matthew Judon is another. You know. Still, you know, as
- 2:08Speaker 1: you said, Fred, players still filtering onto the field. So,
- 2:11Speaker 1: by no means are we official with our attendance, but
- 2:15Speaker 1: looks like some of the players that we haven't seen
- 2:17Speaker 1: previously this spring are out there on the field, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: you know, just for uh, you know, people's education. This
- 2:23Speaker 1: is a mandatory mini camp as opposed to the OTAs
- 2:26Speaker 1: that we had in the past. What's the difference voluntary,
- 2:32Speaker 1: voluntary and mandatory? And in terms of what they're doing
- 2:35Speaker 1: on the field, there will not be any differences, you know.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I think if you go back to two weeks ago,
- 2:41Speaker 1: on the Monday that we were out there to watch,
- 2:44Speaker 1: there was plenty of seven on seven and eleven on
- 2:46Speaker 1: eleven work. I thought the second time, Mike last week
- 2:49Speaker 1: on the Tuesday, I thought it looked like a little
- 2:52Speaker 1: bit more of an installation, kind of a day, more
- 2:54Speaker 1: of a walkthrough tempo. But you're not gonna get I mean,
- 2:57Speaker 1: obviously Mike painted the picture. You're not going to get
- 2:59Speaker 1: pass out here. They're still in helmets and shorts. Watching
- 3:04Speaker 1: from a layman perspective, which is what we are. You're
- 3:06Speaker 1: not going to see a whole lot of difference tomorrow.
- 3:08Speaker 1: What are you looking for today? I was kind of
- 3:10Speaker 1: with Paul, you know, yesterday I had Fantasy Camp, so
- 3:13Speaker 1: I was able to see a lot of the players
- 3:14Speaker 1: that we see out of here today that we're missing
- 3:17Speaker 1: show up. We just saw Actually, Nikkil Harry just walked
- 3:20Speaker 1: out on the field, which is another one that's been
- 3:23Speaker 1: missing obviously from OTA. So I was looking forward to
- 3:26Speaker 1: seeing some of the guys that we're missing available here today.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And so we've seen a couple of them straggle out here,
- 3:31Speaker 1: which I was pretty shocked to see. By the way.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Love those glasses. Thank those are something. Thank you I've
- 3:38Speaker 1: to be able to see. Let's check those out. Let's
- 3:41Speaker 1: check those out for a while. Yeah, it's very nice.
- 3:43Speaker 1: That's very nice chess for video, dress for video. And
- 3:47Speaker 1: I have my nice little binoculars out here too, so
- 3:50Speaker 1: I really feel like I have your prepared six eyes. Okay, yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: well if you got the binoculars. I mean, I think
- 3:54Speaker 1: we're in a pretty good position. You look now where
- 3:56Speaker 1: the media, you know, you kind of down ground level,
- 4:00Speaker 1: hard to really get a bird's eye view. So I mean,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I think we aren't close to the action, but I
- 4:03Speaker 1: think we've got pretty good seats to see, especially if
- 4:05Speaker 1: they get into some seven on seven eleven eleven, you
- 4:08Speaker 1: can see things play. Maybe we could call this the
- 4:10Speaker 1: all eighty five view, particularly if they do it at
- 4:13Speaker 1: our end in our end zone here, which they probably won't,
- 4:16Speaker 1: but you know, we can we can dream, we can
- 4:18Speaker 1: hope because I agree it's Mike, it's better to have
- 4:20Speaker 1: this high advantage point, I think to sort of see
- 4:23Speaker 1: what's going on as opposed to being at field level,
- 4:26Speaker 1: which is where because we should point out we're not
- 4:29Speaker 1: on the normal practice fields that you see a training camp.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Are on a lower field today, yeah, for mini camp
- 4:34Speaker 1: this week, So it's a little bit of a different
- 4:36Speaker 1: look for the media. We usually used to being up
- 4:39Speaker 1: on top of the hill to look down, and right
- 4:42Speaker 1: now all the media down, all those peasants down there
- 4:44Speaker 1: for field level. So around eleven fifty five we're going
- 4:48Speaker 1: to be able to turn our cameras onto the field
- 4:50Speaker 1: so people will be able to see what we're talking about.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But there are three outdoor practice fields here at behind
- 4:56Speaker 1: Gillette Stadium. In there's two and what they call the
- 4:59Speaker 1: upper level, and then there's one on the lower level.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Today we're on the lower level practice field, so everybody's
- 5:05Speaker 1: on one field and you're gonna be able to see
- 5:07Speaker 1: that at about eleven fifty five. So in about six
- 5:10Speaker 1: more minutes um, we're able to put our cameras on
- 5:13Speaker 1: the field and we'll be we'll have them on until
- 5:17Speaker 1: about twelve to twenty today. Uh, and then it'll be
- 5:19Speaker 1: just audio only, UM, so you'll be able to see
- 5:22Speaker 1: what we're talking about. So Freddie, I have a mole
- 5:24Speaker 1: down on the field who I'm I'm asking to relay
- 5:27Speaker 1: some pertinent information up to us. And and Andy hard
- 5:29Speaker 1: has just texted me fifty nine and Blew is massive.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You're welcome, said he was, and he just absolutely destroyed
- 5:39Speaker 1: at his college level. Um, you know that, that's the
- 5:42Speaker 1: kind of player. You gotta wait till Pad's come on
- 5:44Speaker 1: to really get a sense if he's able to translate
- 5:46Speaker 1: that to the NFL level. But he's one of the
- 5:49Speaker 1: guys I wrote my profile on UM just dominant at
- 5:52Speaker 1: that level, pushing guys back left and right. So we'll
- 5:54Speaker 1: see how he stacks up in the NFL game here,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but probably not today. Not hard hard to get a
- 5:59Speaker 1: sense of the O line D line, other than who's
- 6:02Speaker 1: really involved consistently. I think that's what you can take
- 6:04Speaker 1: from today of you get a clear sense of, all, right,
- 6:07Speaker 1: this is kind of the group of guys that know
- 6:09Speaker 1: what they're doing, and this other group is the guys
- 6:11Speaker 1: that are still learning what they're doing. A lot of
- 6:13Speaker 1: times that includes all the rookies and you know sometimes
- 6:15Speaker 1: some of the guys coming off injuries. So I'm gonna
- 6:18Speaker 1: test Paul's memory banks here. Who's Who's a guy from
- 6:23Speaker 1: your experience in mini camp that was new that you said, wow,
- 6:27Speaker 1: he looks good and it was true. You're like, oh
- 6:30Speaker 1: that was true? Yeah, that I don't know that he no,
- 6:33Speaker 1: he looked. I'll give you one welcome Malcolm Butler. Yeah, okay,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler was one that this is where he kind
- 6:39Speaker 1: of cut everybody's eye. My biggest miss is Chad Jackson.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Chad Jackson look great in shorts in a helmet, yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 1: until the pads went on. But Malcolm Butler is a
- 6:48Speaker 1: guy that you know, we didn't know anything about. He
- 6:50Speaker 1: was an undrafted you know, he came in originally on
- 6:53Speaker 1: a tryout. He wasn't even originally signed as a UDFA,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and he came out um and made a bunch of
- 6:58Speaker 1: plays in the spring and that wherever he got our
- 7:00Speaker 1: everyone's radar. Yeah, I think a good comparison this summer
- 7:03Speaker 1: will just to be to get a look at Bailey's
- 7:05Speaker 1: appy having gotten a look at Mac Jones last years
- 7:08Speaker 1: as a rookie quarterback who you know, by contrast, I
- 7:11Speaker 1: mean watching Stidham a couple of years ago as a rookie,
- 7:13Speaker 1: seeing what he did in mini camp and then seeing
- 7:16Speaker 1: or actually I mean I guess I saw him in
- 7:17Speaker 1: training camp, but then seeing what Mac did in mini camp,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and you know, I thought he looked, you know, fairly,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I don't want to say comfortable, but you could tell
- 7:24Speaker 1: that there was something there. He wasn't overwhelmed immediately, but
- 7:28Speaker 1: I think, like you know, Paul kind of hinted at
- 7:30Speaker 1: a cornerback able to get some hands on balls when
- 7:32Speaker 1: you're playing seven on seven, eleven on eleven. I think cornerback, receiver, quarterback,
- 7:36Speaker 1: those are the positions that you know could really stand
- 7:38Speaker 1: out today. Yeah, right now they were working on some
- 7:42Speaker 1: special teams drills. But I know what's on a lot
- 7:45Speaker 1: of people's mind is you know which coaches are spending
- 7:48Speaker 1: what you know, how much time, which which groups and
- 7:51Speaker 1: we'll let we'll let you know that you know from
- 7:53Speaker 1: what we can tell, you know, where's Matt Patricia, Where's
- 7:56Speaker 1: Joe Judge? M fred I was just about to bring
- 7:59Speaker 1: that up, actually, I was like, are we going to
- 8:01Speaker 1: see Bill Belichick with mainly the offense again? Yea. And
- 8:05Speaker 1: I will say, in addition to that, Tamara, Matt Patricia
- 8:08Speaker 1: just basically broke the huddle with this first play that
- 8:10Speaker 1: they're running in there. This is sort of like a
- 8:13Speaker 1: walkthrough portion at the start. This is the plays they're
- 8:15Speaker 1: going to be running later on. Right now, you have
- 8:18Speaker 1: a lot of scout team offense going, like the backup
- 8:21Speaker 1: offensive players are serving as defenders. But Matt Patricia is
- 8:24Speaker 1: with Mac Jones for the first play, and now Joe
- 8:28Speaker 1: Judge is right behind the offense. Is that Hoyer that
- 8:32Speaker 1: he's with their finger? So you know you're going to
- 8:35Speaker 1: see a continuation of the same stuff that we've been
- 8:38Speaker 1: talking about for months now. Yeah. Now, I don't know
- 8:41Speaker 1: if it means anything, but the only person, only coach
- 8:45Speaker 1: down there with a black pullover is Judge, you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and sometimes they have somebody who needs to be spotted
- 8:54Speaker 1: quickly by players in a different color than the other coaches.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So it could be just what he picked up out
- 9:00Speaker 1: of his locker, you know, it could be as simple
- 9:03Speaker 1: as that. But I did notice he's got a black
- 9:05Speaker 1: pull over while everybody else you know has blue, So
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, you would think, oh, if he really needs
- 9:11Speaker 1: to be seen to be in red, so it could
- 9:12Speaker 1: be just what he picked out of his locker, but
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know it's it's an observation and I thought i'd
- 9:17Speaker 1: throw it out there. You know, I think I got
- 9:19Speaker 1: an obsciation right now. It's uh, Bill Belichick through one
- 9:22Speaker 1: of the little helmet pennies that he's wearing that on
- 9:25Speaker 1: top of his head right now. Hopefully somebody's getting a
- 9:28Speaker 1: picture of that down there. But it seems like right
- 9:30Speaker 1: now Bill is down with Steve and what would appear
- 9:33Speaker 1: to be kind of the defensive group. So you know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: make make of it at what you will. We'll have
- 9:38Speaker 1: our Belichick trackers throughout practice. I think he's lining up
- 9:41Speaker 1: as an outside linebacker. Look at it. Yeah there is Yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: he's getting he's getting really involved. But the penny's hilarious. Yeah,
- 9:47Speaker 1: he looks like it's one of the like the caps
- 9:50Speaker 1: on the Yeah, he's got one on his head right now.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And this just reminds me of what Malcolm Butler said
- 9:55Speaker 1: that last week. I think in his press conference he
- 9:57Speaker 1: was like someone asked him what the difference between Bill
- 10:01Speaker 1: before and Bill now? And he's like, nothing, nothing's changed
- 10:04Speaker 1: for his age, Like he's still the same, right and
- 10:06Speaker 1: he's still just as active as he was when Malcolm
- 10:09Speaker 1: Butler was on the team before. Yeah, okay, so now
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm told that cameras are live now on the field,
- 10:17Speaker 1: so now you can see what we're talking about, and
- 10:20Speaker 1: you're you're taking a look at the defense right now,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and you can see Bill with the red helmet cap.
- 10:28Speaker 1: And usually this is like a little stretchy thing and
- 10:31Speaker 1: and it looks like a shower cap. And what they
- 10:34Speaker 1: use that for is like on special teams, if an
- 10:36Speaker 1: offensive players out there, you know, and guys are in
- 10:40Speaker 1: this different colored shirts. They wear the caps to signify
- 10:43Speaker 1: which side of the ball they're on, but they also
- 10:45Speaker 1: use it during these types of drills to identify certain players.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So Bill is representing something that he wants everybody to
- 10:53Speaker 1: keep their eye on, you know. So who knows what
- 10:57Speaker 1: that is. But I've never seen that BEFO for from
- 11:00Speaker 1: Bill um. But uh, there's always something different every year. Uh,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and this year Bill is actually you know, playing the
- 11:08Speaker 1: part of some player or position that he wants everyone
- 11:12Speaker 1: to keep their eye on. I've seen him take like
- 11:14Speaker 1: three past drops already this spring. I've never seen anything
- 11:17Speaker 1: like it before. What do we think about nikkil Harry
- 11:20Speaker 1: being involved in the offense right now. Uh, he's supposed
- 11:24Speaker 1: to be here, and he's here, and I think he's
- 11:26Speaker 1: gonna participate, but I think he's got a real uphill climb. Yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I mean, I don't really have any hope that he
- 11:33Speaker 1: that he's gonna suddenly blossom to a new level this year.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And you know, between Parker coming in and the drafting
- 11:38Speaker 1: of Thornton, right, um, I would agree with you know.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean, I guess the only thing he's kind of
- 11:42Speaker 1: got going for him is that he does still have
- 11:45Speaker 1: some unique size within the group. Um, you know, maybe
- 11:49Speaker 1: they find a use for that. But I think it's
- 11:52Speaker 1: it's a tough it's a tough grind for him unless
- 11:54Speaker 1: unless a couple of guys and the thing is, I mean,
- 11:56Speaker 1: if if this wasn't mandatory, he probably wouldn't be here.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I mean, he's gonna get fined if he's not right
- 12:01Speaker 1: and without you know, without permission. So yeah, I mean,
- 12:05Speaker 1: it's it's interesting, you know, to see how far some
- 12:09Speaker 1: of these guys, you know, to find Gilmore chose to
- 12:10Speaker 1: stay away, um you know, last year and ended up
- 12:14Speaker 1: working it out with the situation with his health that
- 12:17Speaker 1: he wasn't subjected to find. But it's interesting how different
- 12:20Speaker 1: guys take different approaches when it comes to getting what
- 12:24Speaker 1: they want. Well, I mean, Isaiah Wynn, same thing, right. Well,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I don't know why he wasn't here in the spring, Yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 1: like I know, Harry's not happy. Yeah, I mean, but
- 12:32Speaker 1: I don't know why Winn wasn't here in the last two,
- 12:35Speaker 1: you know, the two sessions of OTAs that we were at.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I don't know if he's looking for more money or
- 12:40Speaker 1: an extension or what. But he is out here, um,
- 12:43Speaker 1: you know, and he's I mean, it's working right in
- 12:46Speaker 1: with the regular group right now. You know, I don't
- 12:49Speaker 1: know if we have do we have any pictures of
- 12:50Speaker 1: the offense yet? We haven't. We haven't seen that because
- 12:53Speaker 1: they're running some plays down here in front of us.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So you got, you know, Parker on the outside as
- 12:58Speaker 1: you'd expect, you know, nothing really out of the ordinary
- 13:02Speaker 1: too too much. As you see your boy Hunter Henry
- 13:07Speaker 1: coming across the middle. My boy, Yeah, I declared him,
- 13:11Speaker 1: your boy Mike. I'll take them. I'll take them. I
- 13:13Speaker 1: like Hunter Henry, all right. So they're switching up now,
- 13:15Speaker 1: which probably means they're gonna stretch. They've done their installment,
- 13:20Speaker 1: so they've kind of gone over things they're gonna work
- 13:22Speaker 1: on later. And now they're splitting up offense to defense,
- 13:26Speaker 1: and they'll they'll stretch through some of their their type
- 13:31Speaker 1: of warm up stuff led by Moses Cabrera. S. Yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I wonder why how they decide when to use this field,
- 13:43Speaker 1: because you know, my first couple of years, as the
- 13:45Speaker 1: weather got a little colder in the fall, they would
- 13:48Speaker 1: always move down here and this is where all practices were.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And last year they never really did. I think they
- 13:51Speaker 1: maybe have one or two practices down on this lower
- 13:54Speaker 1: field all year. The double practice fields great for COVID
- 13:57Speaker 1: they could spread out and all that. So, uh, I'm
- 14:00Speaker 1: really sure what the method behind the madness you get down.
- 14:03Speaker 1: That's the thing we look for like these, you know,
- 14:06Speaker 1: complex answers to these questions, and they could be just simply, Hey,
- 14:10Speaker 1: they just put new seed down and they want to
- 14:12Speaker 1: give it a little Oh. I do think that's why
- 14:14Speaker 1: they're here now. But like Mike is right, generally during
- 14:17Speaker 1: the season, once you get about halfway through, Mike, would
- 14:20Speaker 1: you say sometimes even earlier they've moved down to this
- 14:24Speaker 1: lower field and they didn't do that last year? Yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 1: which are you know? I thought even I mean, I
- 14:28Speaker 1: asked the only guy who might know when that was
- 14:30Speaker 1: Mike Reese. Well, I guess he's the only guy in
- 14:31Speaker 1: the outside that might know. But but even Mike Reese
- 14:33Speaker 1: was a little bit perplexed us to you know, why
- 14:36Speaker 1: the switch last. But my guess right now why they're
- 14:38Speaker 1: on the lower field is exactly what you said, yeah, Fred,
- 14:41Speaker 1: because they're getting out those fields ready for the summer, right,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you know. Um, And then you know, with with ninety guys,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, it's always good to be on two fields.
- 14:49Speaker 1: You can spread out a little bit, right you know. Well,
- 14:51Speaker 1: that's how I takes a good sign that, you know,
- 14:53Speaker 1: maybe they're gonna be working together a lot more. There's
- 14:55Speaker 1: gonna be not so much of the spread out, all right,
- 14:58Speaker 1: the offensive linemen or down there and and Dante's Inferno
- 15:01Speaker 1: working I'll bind themselves, like you know, you're gonna you're
- 15:03Speaker 1: gonna have everything happening right here in front of our faces. Yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 1: so you're looking at warm ups, there's uh, who's that
- 15:13Speaker 1: is that? Um? John O Smith right there? Eighty one? Yeah, Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: it looks like we gotta you know, Joe Joe, Judge,
- 15:20Speaker 1: Matt Patricia, they're they're chatting it up right now, maybe
- 15:24Speaker 1: going through some paper so we'll see, uh yeah, how
- 15:28Speaker 1: it goes. Bill's got the Hunter heading off too on
- 15:30Speaker 1: the screen. So I gotta say though, I mean, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 1: without getting into too many details, I mean, overall, I
- 15:38Speaker 1: think that they're you know, pretty pretty good health wise,
- 15:41Speaker 1: you know, shape, and not a lot of guys that
- 15:43Speaker 1: are you know, absent because of injury issues are still
- 15:47Speaker 1: rehabbing it. It It seems like, you know, just about everybody's
- 15:49Speaker 1: here or some of the people that aren't here we've
- 15:52Speaker 1: seen previously. Think James White's availability, he's gonna be for
- 15:55Speaker 1: training camp. Is he gonna start a pup? You think?
- 15:58Speaker 1: Great question. I don't know. I don't know. I mean,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I think it's a good sign that we've seen him
- 16:02Speaker 1: out here in uniform. I've only seen him do much
- 16:05Speaker 1: a couple of times. He hasn't done much, but he's
- 16:07Speaker 1: been out here, which I would think if he's really
- 16:10Speaker 1: far away, and I don't know why he'd be doing that,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but you know, I don't know. I'm my guess is
- 16:15Speaker 1: probably yes. Fred taking a look at Matt Patricia right
- 16:18Speaker 1: now Mattie. Jeff Howe had a story that came out
- 16:25Speaker 1: I think last night about how Matt Patricia is going
- 16:29Speaker 1: to be the play caller. I don't know where he
- 16:31Speaker 1: gets that information. I can't verify it. I would guess
- 16:34Speaker 1: Mike Greece because he's been writing it for about a
- 16:36Speaker 1: month and a half. But that's just me being Caddy
- 16:39Speaker 1: in the meeting. I'm not sold yet. I don't I
- 16:42Speaker 1: don't know if that's that's going to be the case. Yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 1: but I'm not sold yet either. Yeah, I'm with you,
- 16:48Speaker 1: especially because we've seen, you know, Joe Judge kind of
- 16:50Speaker 1: lead the charge a couple of the practices that we
- 16:52Speaker 1: were at and then it switched to Matt Patricia. So
- 16:55Speaker 1: I feel like it's still up in there. Yeah, and
- 16:57Speaker 1: I think Paul has brought this of like multiple times
- 17:00Speaker 1: as well. We don't know what's happening on the days
- 17:02Speaker 1: that we are not at practice and when we don't
- 17:04Speaker 1: have access, so right, it's hard to tell, yep. I mean,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I know, you know, you can say Joe Judge called
- 17:11Speaker 1: special teams plays, but I meant Matt Patricia does have
- 17:14Speaker 1: the experience of calling defensive plays at least I mean
- 17:17Speaker 1: that I'd give him a small bit of, you know,
- 17:21Speaker 1: a little bit of an advantage just in terms of
- 17:23Speaker 1: being able to you know, process things quickly, get the
- 17:26Speaker 1: plays in. Know. I mean it's you know, definitely a
- 17:28Speaker 1: different whole playbook obviously, but he has been kind of
- 17:32Speaker 1: in the in the fire of the play calling so well.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I mean, he's I'm gonna think about it. It It is
- 17:36Speaker 1: true though, I mean, you know, Judge called him. I
- 17:38Speaker 1: think at the last half of last year, after Garrett,
- 17:42Speaker 1: you got rid of Garrett for the Giants. But there's
- 17:46Speaker 1: no one on the team right now that has extensive
- 17:49Speaker 1: experience calling offensive plays, you know. No, that's true, and
- 17:53Speaker 1: that's probably a little different than calling defensive plays, you know,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I would imagine, yeah, a lot, you know. So, do
- 18:01Speaker 1: you think there's a chance that the season comes and
- 18:03Speaker 1: we're like three four weeks in and we're still talking like,
- 18:06Speaker 1: who do you think is calling the plays? Yes? I do.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I do too, because I think that, you know, in
- 18:10Speaker 1: training camp, I think there's gonna be a lot of
- 18:12Speaker 1: people with headsets on, a lot of people would play
- 18:15Speaker 1: sheets and we're just not gonna know. And I, like
- 18:19Speaker 1: I said before, I think bills the wild card. I
- 18:22Speaker 1: think he probably doesn't even need a play sheet, but
- 18:24Speaker 1: he could still call plays, so he could very well
- 18:27Speaker 1: be calling plays without a sheet. So I think it's
- 18:32Speaker 1: we're gonna have to probably wait until week one. And yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but I'm saying, like we're in like the middle of
- 18:39Speaker 1: October and we don't know, Like I, I can't tell
- 18:41Speaker 1: you who the defensive coordinator is now with any degree
- 18:44Speaker 1: of certainty if and this is two years now, Like
- 18:46Speaker 1: I know, everybody thinks they know. I don't, Like I
- 18:49Speaker 1: don't just look on the field and tell you, oh,
- 18:50Speaker 1: that's guy's the defensive card. Yeah, I gotta imagine that
- 18:54Speaker 1: once the broadcast comes on, we're gonna know who's calling
- 18:57Speaker 1: into plays. It could be Matt but you're you're from
- 19:00Speaker 1: the booth. But I think we'll know. The cameras are
- 19:03Speaker 1: going to pick up who's calling the play, don't we
- 19:05Speaker 1: think I don't because I don't think they've picked up
- 19:07Speaker 1: who calls the defensive place in two years. I think
- 19:12Speaker 1: there's some days that everybody's convinced that Steve Belichick, and
- 19:14Speaker 1: there's other days people are convinced that Gard Mayo, Like
- 19:18Speaker 1: I don't, I don't the answer to that is probably yes,
- 19:21Speaker 1: but I don't know for sure. Okay, yeah, I don't
- 19:24Speaker 1: know what's in it to disguise it. If you're the Patriots,
- 19:27Speaker 1: like you know, like, what's the advantage of not making
- 19:30Speaker 1: it clear who's calling the plays once the games start? Yeah, well,
- 19:35Speaker 1: there's no advantage ever to not know who the who's
- 19:37Speaker 1: calling the plays. Yeah, that's why I think they know
- 19:39Speaker 1: who's calling the plays. That's why I've been sort of
- 19:42Speaker 1: against that that rationale. But you know, I agree with Paul.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I think that you know, as long as the team
- 19:48Speaker 1: knows who's calling the plays, like we like, the outsiders
- 19:51Speaker 1: don't need to know. The Peanut gallery doesn't need to
- 19:52Speaker 1: know as long as they know, right, And and I
- 19:55Speaker 1: think they know right yeah, yeah, okay, all right, Not
- 20:00Speaker 1: just I've just been keeping an eye on the running
- 20:02Speaker 1: back group. Really interesting kind of combination of guys in
- 20:05Speaker 1: that group. And I you know, Pierre strong to me,
- 20:08Speaker 1: looks looks tall and kind of lean, almost almost a
- 20:12Speaker 1: little bit high cut. Just an interesting everybody's kind of
- 20:15Speaker 1: got different body types throughout that group. Really curious how
- 20:20Speaker 1: that all comes together. I mean, and you know, I
- 20:22Speaker 1: thought Stevenson was big last year, but you look at
- 20:25Speaker 1: him standing next to Kevin Harris and the almost almost
- 20:27Speaker 1: looks a little small. Uh, just some different options there
- 20:32Speaker 1: at the at the running back position. I think, Mike,
- 20:35Speaker 1: to your point, I think it's interesting kind of to
- 20:37Speaker 1: see the versatility of sizes and that group, and the
- 20:40Speaker 1: wide receiver group as well. They gotta they kind of
- 20:43Speaker 1: have the spectrum covered. It's it's it's between J. J.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Taylor then to you know, Pierre Strong up hye to
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know, the thickness of of Stevenson and also of
- 20:54Speaker 1: Kevin Harris, and then you know overliable James White and
- 20:56Speaker 1: Damian Harris right there in the middle of it. It's
- 20:59Speaker 1: it's an interesting group and I mean one that obviously
- 21:01Speaker 1: in the summer you get a tonnel look at running
- 21:04Speaker 1: backs in the preseason. I mean, they're gonna get plenty
- 21:06Speaker 1: of chances in those games to carry the ball. I
- 21:08Speaker 1: would assume we don't see, you know, much of Damien Harris,
- 21:11Speaker 1: James White, maybe even Stevenson. So yeah, then we'll get
- 21:13Speaker 1: a sense of those getta running backs. Um. They had
- 21:15Speaker 1: broken the offense up in the two groups whilere leading
- 21:18Speaker 1: one mac leading the other and working on some run game. Um,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you know, stuff stuff to the outside and that type
- 21:27Speaker 1: of thing. And then you've got the defense, uh pretty
- 21:30Speaker 1: much more doing bag drills and not so much uh,
- 21:33Speaker 1: you know, working against each other. You know, there's there's
- 21:37Speaker 1: only so much defense can do without pads. But offense
- 21:41Speaker 1: is working more on on plays right now, or at
- 21:44Speaker 1: least running schemes, blocking schemes, that type of thing. Get
- 21:53Speaker 1: somebody in motion. I'm not gonna make your point, yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 1: fred um, sure, she just broke the huddle with Mac
- 21:59Speaker 1: okay in company, so so all right, yeah, definitely, it
- 22:05Speaker 1: definitely seems like Patricia's with the with the MAC group,
- 22:08Speaker 1: Joe Judge is with the hoyer. Yes, listen, it's an
- 22:11Speaker 1: observation right now. Tomorrow it could be the other way,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you know, it could be the other way. But is
- 22:18Speaker 1: that good? Like if you're Mac Jones, do you want
- 22:23Speaker 1: like one day Matt Patricia, the next day Joe Judge
- 22:26Speaker 1: or does it matter? Like I would say, if wouldn't
- 22:28Speaker 1: it be better to have the same person every day?
- 22:30Speaker 1: I would think so, I would think so. But I
- 22:32Speaker 1: mean I also think that if the information is the
- 22:34Speaker 1: same and it's being distributed in a similar fashion, you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I just think I mean, I do think mac is
- 22:41Speaker 1: is the most important part of this, and ultimately, no
- 22:43Speaker 1: matter who's calling the plays or whatever, it's gonna come
- 22:45Speaker 1: down to him and the offense executing what they're doing.
- 22:48Speaker 1: They've always had a small staff. I think this is
- 22:51Speaker 1: just going to be the ultimate test of you know,
- 22:53Speaker 1: can can that work? I mean, I think everybody's so
- 22:55Speaker 1: attached to the head coach, offensive coordinators and position coaches
- 23:00Speaker 1: and that kind of dynamic that but they don't have
- 23:02Speaker 1: any fewer coaches than they normally do. They just don't
- 23:05Speaker 1: have a title, right like they've always had guys in
- 23:08Speaker 1: my roles, So we just don't know what who's calling
- 23:11Speaker 1: the place. And so that's what my point is though,
- 23:13Speaker 1: is that, you know, does does the message stay the
- 23:16Speaker 1: same when it's when it's a small coaches stap? They
- 23:17Speaker 1: used to have a small staff, they kind of have
- 23:19Speaker 1: the same size now is it? Can they still do
- 23:20Speaker 1: it even though they don't have an official I have
- 23:22Speaker 1: no idea if if if the message is the same.
- 23:24Speaker 1: It certainly seems from talking to players the message hasn't
- 23:27Speaker 1: been the same on defense well, and that's what I
- 23:29Speaker 1: worry about. But let's stick to offense. For a second,
- 23:31Speaker 1: regardless of whether the message is the same, I can't
- 23:34Speaker 1: imagine that delivery is the same if it's two different people.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You know, Joe Judge is going to deliver the message
- 23:41Speaker 1: differently than Matt Patrician, and I think that makes a
- 23:43Speaker 1: difference too. You know, I agree with you, Freddie, I like, listen,
- 23:48Speaker 1: it's not the end of the world. I know we've
- 23:49Speaker 1: made more out of it than probably needs to be,
- 23:51Speaker 1: and I know Mike gets really tired the fact that
- 23:54Speaker 1: we make more out of it than we need to be.
- 23:55Speaker 1: But I agree with Mike on that. But it's an issue.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I mean, it's there's a reason no one's ever done
- 24:01Speaker 1: it like that before, because it's not the best way
- 24:03Speaker 1: to do it right. It's adding complexity where you don't
- 24:07Speaker 1: need to, you know, right, you want to keep things
- 24:10Speaker 1: simple wherever you can. So, fred are you saying, for example,
- 24:14Speaker 1: teachers may teach calculus differently. Yea, yeah, absolutely. And that's
- 24:20Speaker 1: a great example to Marra because how many times have
- 24:22Speaker 1: you had a teacher and you said, this one was
- 24:25Speaker 1: able to get the same information you know, across to
- 24:28Speaker 1: me and this one couldn't. Yeah, yeah, I mean they
- 24:31Speaker 1: obviously both know the subject matter. Yep. But there's different styles,
- 24:35Speaker 1: there's different ways to deliver the message, and you know it.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I just think that it's good to be consistent, you know.
- 24:44Speaker 1: So general question though, how are we going to know
- 24:47Speaker 1: why not if it doesn't work, whether it's Mac's fault,
- 24:50Speaker 1: it's the coach's fault. And this is why I made
- 24:52Speaker 1: that comment, or vice versa. I made the comment a
- 24:55Speaker 1: few weeks ago that you know, in a warped way,
- 24:58Speaker 1: this kind of benefits Mac because he's not gonna if
- 25:02Speaker 1: he could if he has a bad if he has
- 25:04Speaker 1: takes a step back from what people thought, no one's
- 25:07Speaker 1: gonna put it on him. It's all going to be
- 25:09Speaker 1: put on the way that the coaches were set up,
- 25:12Speaker 1: right well, especially we're not gonna knows, We're not gonna
- 25:16Speaker 1: how do you gonna know if it? Well, chiefs, they
- 25:17Speaker 1: had everything in place, everything was there. He just didn't
- 25:20Speaker 1: make the right read and made a bad throw. Often
- 25:21Speaker 1: do we hear about young quarterbacks, Oh we had three
- 25:24Speaker 1: coordinators and three years, yeah, three head coaches or to
- 25:27Speaker 1: this or to that, and they always shift the blame
- 25:30Speaker 1: to the instability of the coaching staff. Right well, Fred,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think he also had a few coordinators at Alabama.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But do you think that it was Saban primarily leading
- 25:40Speaker 1: the charge there? I think, yeah, I think he's the
- 25:42Speaker 1: constant fourth there. But he also only played one year.
- 25:45Speaker 1: He only played one year, and he had really I
- 25:47Speaker 1: mean talk about the best players. Yeah, you know, it's
- 25:50Speaker 1: like if you're if you're a competent quarterback, it's hard
- 25:53Speaker 1: not to do well at Alabama, you know. Um, So
- 25:57Speaker 1: it's I don't know if it's an apples to apples comparison,
- 25:59Speaker 1: but it can't be good for a young guy trying
- 26:03Speaker 1: to learn to have to be hearing different voices and
- 26:07Speaker 1: and I'm not saying that right now, there's it's a problem.
- 26:09Speaker 1: It's just an observation. And for all we know, it's
- 26:12Speaker 1: going to be Joe, uh, Matt Patricia throughout, you know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: like like like we said, we don't know, but they
- 26:20Speaker 1: probably do. Uh and that's all that counts. So what
- 26:25Speaker 1: are we looking at now? We're looking at we got
- 26:27Speaker 1: some punt team going on and a little bit of
- 26:30Speaker 1: position drill on the screen. We're looking at some defensive
- 26:34Speaker 1: high point drill, you know, locating the ball at its
- 26:37Speaker 1: highest point and going up and making the interception or
- 26:41Speaker 1: you know whatever. So we're looking at that on the screen.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Now we're looking at Matt Jones doing some quick drops
- 26:50Speaker 1: passes out to the flank. Yeah, Billy's appy. That's that's
- 26:56Speaker 1: a little bit of a I mean, I assume he'll
- 27:00Speaker 1: you know, be the third quarterback this year, but I
- 27:02Speaker 1: think that's a little side story that'll be interesting to watch.
- 27:05Speaker 1: As I said earlier, just in comparison to have him
- 27:07Speaker 1: watched a rookie quarterback kind of go through it last year,
- 27:10Speaker 1: give a little bit more of a sense of, you know,
- 27:13Speaker 1: how hard it is to pick up things. And Zappy
- 27:15Speaker 1: just threw a ball. Okay, so knee jerk um looked
- 27:20Speaker 1: like it had a pretty good zip coming out of
- 27:22Speaker 1: his arm. I think he has a decent arm. Yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 1: he's a little small. He's small. I think he's stocky.
- 27:27Speaker 1: You know, it seems like he's got some power. Fred
- 27:30Speaker 1: I couldn't tell if you were trying to be like
- 27:32Speaker 1: Eric and be a little bit puney there with that
- 27:34Speaker 1: one zip for Zappy. Yes, a little a little alliteration.
- 27:41Speaker 1: They're happy, was Zappy? Hey, dud, stop, don't intrude on
- 27:47Speaker 1: my headlines. At this point of the season. We're just
- 27:50Speaker 1: looking for anything. But like you know, he does look
- 27:53Speaker 1: like the ball comes out of his arm hand pretty quickly.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Damn Billy Yates very much running the uh the offensive
- 28:00Speaker 1: line right now? Socus Patricia has to run the offense.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Go two people talking at once. What are we gonna do?
- 28:11Speaker 1: Who do I listen to? Well, I'm gonna just keep
- 28:16Speaker 1: saying it. That's what the different defensive players claimed. Who
- 28:19Speaker 1: do I listen to? That was a problem last year.
- 28:24Speaker 1: That we're gonna try it on the offensive side now right,
- 28:26Speaker 1: it works so well, we're gonna try it again. See
- 28:28Speaker 1: if we can make someone punting and then see if
- 28:30Speaker 1: we can do something other than punt. Can we can
- 28:32Speaker 1: we just bury that Buffalo game. I feel like we
- 28:34Speaker 1: need which Warrior football game? Which one? Oh any of them? Because,
- 28:38Speaker 1: as Fred likes to point out, there was two games
- 28:40Speaker 1: that they didn't for. I'll even bury the stupid one
- 28:43Speaker 1: in the weather too. I don't care receivers doing some drills,
- 28:51Speaker 1: some bag drills, and so I do think too. You
- 28:54Speaker 1: know one point, I mean we don't. I don't know
- 28:55Speaker 1: who number two is. Um this, yeah, that it looks
- 28:59Speaker 1: like there's a kick on the field. That's not Quinn
- 29:02Speaker 1: Nordine nor Nick Fulcan Nordine are not here. So we've
- 29:07Speaker 1: seen they got somebody in here just to be able
- 29:09Speaker 1: to kick during the camp. And there were reports that
- 29:17Speaker 1: three kickers were in for looks yesterday, tryouts yesterday, and
- 29:20Speaker 1: one of them was a guy who some NFL experience,
- 29:24Speaker 1: This Guyano, Right yeah, he was with the Chargers for
- 29:28Speaker 1: a little bit. I think he if I'm not mistaken,
- 29:30Speaker 1: he might have kicked against the Patriots a couple of
- 29:32Speaker 1: years ago and missed a couple Was he the one
- 29:34Speaker 1: that had the one blocks that McCardy returned? Might be
- 29:37Speaker 1: a different year, but he has some NFL experience. He
- 29:40Speaker 1: was one of the three kickers that was reportedly in
- 29:43Speaker 1: Foxboro yesterday for tryouts. I don't know if that's the
- 29:46Speaker 1: one that's on the field now. As we see a
- 29:48Speaker 1: group go up to the other fields by the conditioning
- 29:51Speaker 1: hills on the side, looked like a group of younger
- 29:54Speaker 1: players and some specialists. Right yeah, yeah, that's the specialist.
- 29:58Speaker 1: You can call her email the show if you want
- 30:00Speaker 1: to ask a question, get involved. Eight five five past
- 30:03Speaker 1: five hundred is the ACE ticket hut line, or you
- 30:06Speaker 1: can email us at web radio at Patriots dot Com. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 1: where are you at? Where's the uh where's the comments? Uh?
- 30:13Speaker 1: Well they're here, they're here. All right, let's go Jonathan
- 30:16Speaker 1: or actually this is Rusty in Arland. He says, I
- 30:19Speaker 1: feel like the defense is flying under the radar as
- 30:21Speaker 1: a story so far this offseason, considering how last year
- 30:24Speaker 1: ended this time last year, corner was probably the strongest position,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and now it's one of the biggest question marks. Who
- 30:30Speaker 1: do you project as the starters and how do you
- 30:33Speaker 1: feel about them? Ah? Well, I think you're right. I mean,
- 30:37Speaker 1: you know, I think that's the point we've we've brought up,
- 30:40Speaker 1: we brought up on regular pu of you know, Fred
- 30:42Speaker 1: and I think are probably a little bit more into
- 30:45Speaker 1: the defense right now than than you know, the whole
- 30:47Speaker 1: offensive coordinator part of it. But I don't know. I mean,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I think Butler and Mitchell are definitely going to be
- 30:52Speaker 1: in the mix up at the top. Um. You got
- 30:55Speaker 1: can't ignore Jalen Mills after you know, coming in last
- 30:58Speaker 1: year and play most of the season. Talk about an
- 31:00Speaker 1: unfortunate in there in the Buffalo game, he wasn't able
- 31:02Speaker 1: to go. But I think I think Mitchell and Butler
- 31:05Speaker 1: are very much going to be in the mix at
- 31:06Speaker 1: least to start, and you know, we'll see how things
- 31:08Speaker 1: play out. We did see Jack Jones get a little
- 31:10Speaker 1: bit of a little bit of action there during OTAs,
- 31:13Speaker 1: but again, what is it, what does it mean exactly
- 31:16Speaker 1: right now? You know, guys just aren't here yet. Guys
- 31:18Speaker 1: aren't one hundred percent. So you know, we'll see how
- 31:21Speaker 1: that all plays out. Those veterans. But I don't I
- 31:23Speaker 1: think there's a ton of questions on defense. I think
- 31:25Speaker 1: there's questions about the linebacker position. I think there's questions
- 31:27Speaker 1: about the cornerback position. I think there's questions on one
- 31:30Speaker 1: of the edges sides of you know, opposite Matthew Judeon.
- 31:34Speaker 1: So I'm with you. I think after the safety group,
- 31:37Speaker 1: I think there there are a ton of questions on defense.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Don't you feel like in cornerback, like the two that
- 31:43Speaker 1: they drafted this year kind of have to contribute a
- 31:46Speaker 1: certain to a certain point because I think we're not
- 31:49Speaker 1: sure about Malcolm Butler. Right, Yeah, Well, I mean, you know,
- 31:53Speaker 1: it just goes back to draft night, where you know,
- 31:54Speaker 1: they've got Jonathan Jones, they've got Miles Brian, a couple
- 31:57Speaker 1: versatile inside corner type guys, and both both of the
- 32:01Speaker 1: Joneses that they drafted are inside cornerback types. Even you know, Jack,
- 32:05Speaker 1: I think we're maybe projecting out a little bit more
- 32:07Speaker 1: just in the pros. He did play outside corner, you know,
- 32:10Speaker 1: at Arizona State and at USC. So for me, Marcus
- 32:14Speaker 1: Jones coming in as a returner, I think that that
- 32:16Speaker 1: that has to happen. He has to come in and
- 32:18Speaker 1: be the instant punt returner and you know, hopefully he
- 32:21Speaker 1: can build on you know what Gunarol Chefs he did
- 32:24Speaker 1: the last couple of seasons. But I think Jack Jones
- 32:26Speaker 1: a little bit of wild card at that at that
- 32:27Speaker 1: corner position, and maybe seeing him beat out one of
- 32:30Speaker 1: those veterans, maybe that could be, uh something that's on
- 32:32Speaker 1: the table. We'll see. Like Paul pointed out with Malcolm
- 32:34Speaker 1: Butler when he first got here, Jack Jones is that
- 32:37Speaker 1: kind of player, hands on a lot of balls, very scrappy,
- 32:40Speaker 1: very competitive, doesn't have the best size, but you know,
- 32:44Speaker 1: if he's out here getting his hands on balls and
- 32:46Speaker 1: making interceptions, breaking up passes, I think that'll be a
- 32:49Speaker 1: big takeaway. Yeah, he's a guy I'm looking at because
- 32:51Speaker 1: he did kind of flash a little bit with his
- 32:53Speaker 1: athleticism in one of the OTAs that we got a
- 32:56Speaker 1: chance to watch. And if Mike is right, if if
- 32:58Speaker 1: we get a chance to see some of that competitive
- 33:01Speaker 1: portion and he's getting a chance to be as a
- 33:04Speaker 1: part of the defensive backfield and getting a chance to
- 33:07Speaker 1: make some plays, I think he could emerge. I would
- 33:09Speaker 1: agree with Mike's assessment strongly of the cornerback position and
- 33:14Speaker 1: what you expect if those If either of those two
- 33:16Speaker 1: rookies contributes significantly on defense, I'd be a little surprised.
- 33:21Speaker 1: But if one of the two I would I would
- 33:23Speaker 1: go with Jack Jones. Marcus I think is more of
- 33:26Speaker 1: a returner right now. Jack Jones I think might be
- 33:29Speaker 1: able to play inside or out, And if he can,
- 33:33Speaker 1: I think that would give them a layer of insurance,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know, on the outside, because it's Terrence Mitchell and
- 33:39Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler, Like I don't think you want Jalen Mills outside.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I think he's better as sort of a versatile kind
- 33:44Speaker 1: of a piece that you can move. So I'm not
- 33:46Speaker 1: exactly sure how that's gonna unfold well at all those
- 33:49Speaker 1: reasons and why for me, I'm more you know, worried
- 33:53Speaker 1: about defense going into this year than I am offense,
- 33:56Speaker 1: And that includes the front seven. When you get to
- 33:59Speaker 1: the outside in the line backers, who's going to emerge?
- 34:02Speaker 1: Who are these young players are you know, going to
- 34:05Speaker 1: end up being the nucleus of the team going forward
- 34:08Speaker 1: if they are, if any at all? You know, So
- 34:11Speaker 1: there's a lot of questions on defense going into this
- 34:14Speaker 1: season that remained to be answered. Yeah, I would just say,
- 34:18Speaker 1: you know, keep an eye on names like Mac Wilson,
- 34:21Speaker 1: Ray Kwon McMillan, the two cornerbacks I mentioned, those veterans.
- 34:25Speaker 1: I mean, those guys are definitely in the mix. But
- 34:27Speaker 1: then it's it comes down to Ronnie Perkins, Josh Uch,
- 34:30Speaker 1: Anthony Jennings. You know, these guys over the last few
- 34:33Speaker 1: years that have been a little bit buried on the
- 34:34Speaker 1: depth chart based on the veterans. Caml Grown another great example. Uh.
- 34:39Speaker 1: You know, I just think for this team to really
- 34:41Speaker 1: be playoff contenders and make a push, you know, for nine,
- 34:44Speaker 1: ten eleven wins in that area, some of these guys
- 34:48Speaker 1: have to absolutely emerge and not just like come in
- 34:50Speaker 1: and be salt like. They have to be plus playmakers.
- 34:53Speaker 1: You need at least one or two guys. All right,
- 34:55Speaker 1: so we're gonna have to say goodbye to the video
- 34:59Speaker 1: portion of this show. Um as rules at twelve twenty,
- 35:03Speaker 1: we've got to turn them and uh, we're gonna be
- 35:05Speaker 1: turning them off completely and we're just gonna be going
- 35:08Speaker 1: to audio for the rest of the show because I
- 35:10Speaker 1: don't really think there's a reason to be watching us
- 35:13Speaker 1: until the end of practice. I would agree, but we
- 35:15Speaker 1: also have the right Jus is a good looking guy,
- 35:20Speaker 1: wonderful picture. Samario's glasses will making a strong foot. You
- 35:25Speaker 1: can have lunch on those glasses. We get lunch today,
- 35:31Speaker 1: all right. So we're audio only now, so we're gonna
- 35:33Speaker 1: have to be a little bit more descriptive of what's
- 35:36Speaker 1: going on and right now that Mac is working with
- 35:39Speaker 1: the receivers, and uh, if we can get any indication
- 35:44Speaker 1: of fifty one speed, let's yell at out. That was
- 35:47Speaker 1: my actual next question, Fred, I know that's everyone's question,
- 35:51Speaker 1: like how fast does he look out there? I think
- 35:53Speaker 1: that we might be able to see a little bit
- 35:56Speaker 1: more of that than what we saws. Right we're talking
- 35:58Speaker 1: about Thornton. Of course, right now they're looking at you know,
- 36:01Speaker 1: short passes coming out of the backfield and that type
- 36:04Speaker 1: of thing. But you know, if they ever stretch the field,
- 36:07Speaker 1: it'll be interesting to see how Thornton is. And of
- 36:10Speaker 1: course the rookies aren't wearing the numbers they're gonna wear
- 36:13Speaker 1: once the season starts. They wear the fifties in the
- 36:17Speaker 1: order that they were drafted. So for example, cold Strange
- 36:20Speaker 1: is wearing number fifty and Thornton, who was the second pick,
- 36:24Speaker 1: is wearing number fifty one, and then it goes down
- 36:26Speaker 1: the line. It's brilliant. Don't touch fifty six or fifty
- 36:31Speaker 1: seven though. Yeah, I don't know how they won all
- 36:34Speaker 1: those Super Bowls before they started doing that stuff. Paul,
- 36:38Speaker 1: not into, not into that, No, you know what I'm
- 36:41Speaker 1: not into. I have to be honest with you. I
- 36:42Speaker 1: really have no problem with it overall. I'm not into
- 36:45Speaker 1: the narrative that it's significant in any way, like you
- 36:50Speaker 1: have to earn your number like that kind of I'm
- 36:53Speaker 1: not into like that kind of nonsense, the symbolism of it,
- 36:57Speaker 1: which some people are, well, what about just earning your
- 36:59Speaker 1: spot on the roster. That's what I'm saying. I'm not into.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I mean, everybody has to come out here and spot
- 37:03Speaker 1: on the roster. I don't care if you have a
- 37:05Speaker 1: normal number or not no one. I mean, there are
- 37:07Speaker 1: very few guys out there guaranteed a job. Well along
- 37:10Speaker 1: that line. Along that line, how do you feel about
- 37:12Speaker 1: no logos on the helmets yet? See, I assume that
- 37:15Speaker 1: was more of a it's like a maintenance thing. It
- 37:17Speaker 1: kind of reminds me of Notre Dame. There's no names
- 37:20Speaker 1: on the back of jerseys until you make it to
- 37:23Speaker 1: a bowl game. The postseason is when you get your
- 37:25Speaker 1: name on the back of it, right they wait that long? Yeah?
- 37:28Speaker 1: Like if like they just don't have so let me
- 37:30Speaker 1: ask you a question. Then you know you worked at
- 37:32Speaker 1: Notre Dame. Huh why put it on even for the playoffs?
- 37:35Speaker 1: Why not just not have names all the time? I
- 37:37Speaker 1: guess it's in the same sense of Bill Belichick here,
- 37:40Speaker 1: you've earned it. Yeah. I wonder also if it might
- 37:43Speaker 1: be a rule, you know, might be an NCAA rule,
- 37:46Speaker 1: but in the playoffs, doesn't Notre Dame is the only
- 37:50Speaker 1: person that doesn't have their last name on the back
- 37:52Speaker 1: of their jerseys. But until no, that's what I'm saying.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Maybe in the playoffs every team has to have the name.
- 37:58Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, when was the last time her
- 38:00Speaker 1: name on a playoff game? Yeah? Um, I joke, I could.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I usually like that stuff with like the helmet stickers
- 38:10Speaker 1: and you know the offseason. Oh I like the stickers
- 38:12Speaker 1: in terms of when you make play, like you like
- 38:14Speaker 1: the Buckeye lead, even though I hate Ohio State, but
- 38:17Speaker 1: that's one of the more famous one. I kind of
- 38:19Speaker 1: like those the bones Georgia has. Did the BU baseball
- 38:22Speaker 1: team do it like the BU hockey team? No, but
- 38:23Speaker 1: we we did it in football like that. Yeah, if
- 38:26Speaker 1: you if you made plays, you got different stickers for
- 38:29Speaker 1: different things. We all know it's not the name of
- 38:30Speaker 1: the jersey. It's the name on the front of the
- 38:33Speaker 1: jersey that matters. Is that guy usually? Like? Can you
- 38:36Speaker 1: say that? That's brilliant? I never even I never thought
- 38:39Speaker 1: of that. Paul Iron sharpers Iron, that's a really that's
- 38:42Speaker 1: a you should think about, like coming up with those
- 38:44Speaker 1: kinds of slogans. I think you have a future. I
- 38:46Speaker 1: think I could have a book about it's not about
- 38:50Speaker 1: the name in the front of the jersey. How many times?
- 38:53Speaker 1: How many times have you seen a coach at his
- 38:56Speaker 1: introductory press conference say something like that and immediately think
- 38:58Speaker 1: to yourself, that guy has doomed right right, that guy
- 39:02Speaker 1: will be out within two years. If we're falling, you know,
- 39:05Speaker 1: back to cliches on day one, then we're in trouble.
- 39:08Speaker 1: We're gonna be a tough football team, you know, in
- 39:10Speaker 1: the mold of our city, and we're gonna take on
- 39:13Speaker 1: the characteristics of this tough blue call a tone. And
- 39:17Speaker 1: I meanly think to myself, that guy's gone into you.
- 39:19Speaker 1: We're gonna be a tough team. Sounds like Dan Campbell,
- 39:22Speaker 1: That sounds like Joe Judge. That's exactly what he said
- 39:25Speaker 1: in New York. Yeah, let's see emails. Um, this is
- 39:31Speaker 1: v from Pittsburgh. Just looking down at the field, does
- 39:34Speaker 1: anyone stand out as being different? Including Vets. Have you
- 39:38Speaker 1: had a chance to look up a grown in action
- 39:40Speaker 1: different now? I mean you were talking about Sam Roberts early. Yeah,
- 39:44Speaker 1: Well he's big, Yeah, Harris's standing out. I mean Taykawon
- 39:49Speaker 1: Thornton just you know, he stands out just because he's
- 39:51Speaker 1: tall and skinny. He's running down the field right now,
- 39:55Speaker 1: but they're at like thirty percent speed right now. Yeah.
- 39:59Speaker 1: But in Parker too, I mean I think Parker, uh,
- 40:01Speaker 1: I think Parker looks fluid. Yeah, he looks like a
- 40:04Speaker 1: he looks like an NFL wide receiver. Like I kind
- 40:06Speaker 1: of expected him to kind of look like, you know,
- 40:10Speaker 1: some wear and terror on him, you know, but he
- 40:12Speaker 1: looks fresh and fluid. Limping around out there, Yeah, I mean,
- 40:14Speaker 1: I don't know about limping, but you know what I mean.
- 40:17Speaker 1: You like you look at him and say, guy's been
- 40:18Speaker 1: through some NFL wars, remember like alge Crumpler Fred Yeah, yeah,
- 40:22Speaker 1: you know it looked like he was gonna fall apart
- 40:24Speaker 1: like at any any moment. Yeah, But Parker, he doesn't
- 40:27Speaker 1: look like that. He looks he looks very fresh. Well
- 40:30Speaker 1: it is uh, Trent Brown. I hadn't seen him earlier,
- 40:32Speaker 1: but he's out. Trent Brown his back out all right?
- 40:35Speaker 1: Uh jacket an aaba. We know who the starting offensive
- 40:38Speaker 1: lineman are expected to be. Who is lining up with
- 40:40Speaker 1: the second string offensive line? I can give you some
- 40:44Speaker 1: of those right now if you want some of the
- 40:46Speaker 1: One of the groups that I saw working had justin
- 40:49Speaker 1: harn Uh. Let's see Juw Deja James parents and Will
- 40:57Speaker 1: Sherman and y'a Sa Durant. Yeah, that's from left to
- 41:02Speaker 1: right on your radio dial. Do we know totally though,
- 41:05Speaker 1: who the starting offensive line's going to be. I think
- 41:08Speaker 1: I know the five guys, I don't know exactly where
- 41:10Speaker 1: they're all going to be. I would I would assume
- 41:12Speaker 1: it's going to be some combination of Brown Win, Uh,
- 41:16Speaker 1: Cole Strange, David Andrews, and Michael when you Yeah. Now,
- 41:20Speaker 1: I think there's definitely um open to debate as to
- 41:24Speaker 1: which Brown a Win plays what what side based on
- 41:28Speaker 1: what we've seen so far in the spring, and it
- 41:31Speaker 1: looks like Strange is more on the left and a
- 41:33Speaker 1: when You's on the right. And that's um in line
- 41:35Speaker 1: with where they both played in college. Right, Mike, ye,
- 41:38Speaker 1: when you played mostly right guard at Michigan. Correct. I
- 41:42Speaker 1: leave the offensive line details to you, and then, uh,
- 41:45Speaker 1: you know, justin hern are kind of the next next
- 41:47Speaker 1: guy's up at tackle? Yeah, and uh and Will Sherman
- 41:51Speaker 1: probably probably the next guy up on the inside. I
- 41:53Speaker 1: would concur Mike's having a strong show. He's saying a
- 41:56Speaker 1: lot of things. That's all. I just all I care
- 41:58Speaker 1: about my This is what I do. I just stare
- 42:00Speaker 1: at the depth chart and try to figure out who's what.
- 42:03Speaker 1: So we haven't talked about High Tower today. Yet, UM's
- 42:08Speaker 1: just gonna talk about the players. Yeah, we talk about
- 42:10Speaker 1: our players that they here tomorrow. Since he's not here. Well,
- 42:14Speaker 1: there was a report this weekend that that the team
- 42:16Speaker 1: would be open to it. I think Jeff Howell reported
- 42:18Speaker 1: that that's the team would be. They would be sorry
- 42:21Speaker 1: to it with open arms, I think was the quote. Yeah,
- 42:23Speaker 1: that was from Bill Belichick's price conference last week. But um,
- 42:26Speaker 1: he's not here today, so we think, well, he's not
- 42:30Speaker 1: on the contract, is he. No? No, no, no, he's
- 42:32Speaker 1: free age. He's a free agent. Yeah, And uh, I
- 42:36Speaker 1: don't know. Maybe he just wants to skip this stuff
- 42:38Speaker 1: and then maybe I'll say, let's, uh, let's play ball
- 42:40Speaker 1: this summer. Yeah, I don't know. I'm kind of on
- 42:43Speaker 1: the fence, like I'm one way. I want to just
- 42:45Speaker 1: tear the band aid off and go with the youth,
- 42:47Speaker 1: but it's time. I don't want to get on the
- 42:49Speaker 1: field and see a team that can't sent the edge,
- 42:50Speaker 1: and I would just at least take him. Yeah, I
- 42:52Speaker 1: mean there's a chance that that could happen. You're right,
- 42:54Speaker 1: I just don't think. I don't think there's much left there,
- 42:57Speaker 1: and I don't think he has much desire to play.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I'm going off what I saw last year. If we
- 43:01Speaker 1: can't do better than that, then you know, what are
- 43:04Speaker 1: we doing? Yeah, I mean I think you gotta get
- 43:06Speaker 1: away and I don't I don't know if they had
- 43:08Speaker 1: this mindset, but the mindset of that, Oh, the guys
- 43:12Speaker 1: with all the Super Bowl rings are gonna step up
- 43:13Speaker 1: and make the plays, you know. And again I don't
- 43:16Speaker 1: want to say that that's what it is, but I
- 43:18Speaker 1: think at a certain point you need to realize some
- 43:20Speaker 1: of these young guys that someone else isn't gonna do it.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Ronnie Perkins, you need to step up. These need to
- 43:25Speaker 1: be the guys who are stepping up and making plays.
- 43:27Speaker 1: And you know, so from that regard, if you want
- 43:30Speaker 1: to kind of sunset High Tower, I I mean you
- 43:32Speaker 1: said it sunset them, huh, look at you. You said
- 43:35Speaker 1: it dud, you know, tearing off the band aid. That's
- 43:37Speaker 1: what I look at that at this as you know,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I think that you just got we just got to
- 43:42Speaker 1: pull the plug this year and do it and just
- 43:45Speaker 1: get those young guys out there and see see, yeah,
- 43:47Speaker 1: we've got It's just the only thing I struggle with is,
- 43:49Speaker 1: you know, if you get out there and Ronnie and
- 43:51Speaker 1: Josh Jay can't set the edge and you're just getting
- 43:54Speaker 1: run over the left and right, and it's like, well,
- 43:56Speaker 1: I do want to prove a point, but I also
- 43:58Speaker 1: would just love to stick an old vet in there
- 44:00Speaker 1: who can just put it but you know, put his
- 44:01Speaker 1: feet in the dirt and said, there's a chance that
- 44:03Speaker 1: you're that that nightmare scenario one folds and these guys
- 44:07Speaker 1: are just not ready. I just feel like you'll be
- 44:09Speaker 1: better off in the long run. Yeah, fining, you know,
- 44:11Speaker 1: they're not ready and you gotta go get one. I
- 44:13Speaker 1: don't think that Ronnie Perkins and Josh Ucha right now
- 44:15Speaker 1: were as good as Dante High Tower was last year.
- 44:17Speaker 1: I don't. But I think that you'll be better off
- 44:20Speaker 1: by letting them play and get some experience and figuring
- 44:22Speaker 1: out what the future with that position is, rather than
- 44:25Speaker 1: just saying, you know, can we keep Bersion running Marshen
- 44:28Speaker 1: together for one more year and just see if it works?
- 44:30Speaker 1: You know, can maybe even bring Crechie back too? Yeah,
- 44:32Speaker 1: let's see if we can bring Crechie. I think that
- 44:35Speaker 1: I think they fire the coach. I'm sorry to me though,
- 44:37Speaker 1: that was the mindset last year. That's what I'm saying
- 44:42Speaker 1: and at what costs? Like, yeah, I think that you
- 44:45Speaker 1: were better last year. You probably made the playoffs last
- 44:47Speaker 1: year because you did that, right, Yeah, but is there
- 44:49Speaker 1: a difference? Right? So I'm I was all for it
- 44:52Speaker 1: last year. That was it. But you also couldn't play
- 44:55Speaker 1: McMillan because he was hurt. Oh no, that Yeah, McMillan's different.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I'm talking about I'm talking about the draft pick. Yeah,
- 45:00Speaker 1: Perkins never played, really never played. Anthony Jennings was hurt.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I get to see him. Yeah, um, you know, like
- 45:08Speaker 1: playing high Tower and Van Noy and Jamie Collins. I was.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I was fine with that because I thought maybe they
- 45:14Speaker 1: got a shot. Maybe you know that. I think Bill
- 45:17Speaker 1: agreed with you, you know, but but now I of us,
- 45:20Speaker 1: you know, had some foresight. Now I'm convinced it's time
- 45:23Speaker 1: to move on. It's time to move on. You know,
- 45:26Speaker 1: Let's see what they got. Cole writes in I rode
- 45:29Speaker 1: in after they signed Parker and said, I was disappointed
- 45:32Speaker 1: because I thought that the Patriots wouldn't draft a receiver
- 45:35Speaker 1: till the fourth I was wrong, but maybe it would
- 45:37Speaker 1: have been better if I was right, since apparently we
- 45:40Speaker 1: drafted a fourth round wide receiver in the second round.
- 45:43Speaker 1: A little bit of all. That's a little bit of
- 45:45Speaker 1: a factual statement. Chase Claypool was drafted similarly in twenty
- 45:49Speaker 1: twenty and had sixty catches as a rookie. Elijah Moore
- 45:52Speaker 1: was drafted higher than both and had forty. Do you
- 45:55Speaker 1: think Taekwon will have more or less than thirty five
- 45:59Speaker 1: catches and would be disappointed if he had less? No,
- 46:02Speaker 1: I think he'll have less and I wouldn't be disappointed. Yeah,
- 46:05Speaker 1: I think he's not. I mean, I don't think he's
- 46:06Speaker 1: going to ever be a high volume catch guy. I mean,
- 46:09Speaker 1: I think it's more about can he give you ten
- 46:13Speaker 1: explosive places year. I mean, I'm saying twenty thirty catches,
- 46:16Speaker 1: but you know, ten explosive down the field impacts. I
- 46:20Speaker 1: mean I think that would be you know, satisfying. And
- 46:22Speaker 1: then maybe next year he takes over Prop Parker or
- 46:25Speaker 1: at least gives you another option on the albisde Chase
- 46:28Speaker 1: Claypool and tap like you cannot compare Chase Claypool probably
- 46:33Speaker 1: twice the way he's almost like the size of a
- 46:35Speaker 1: tight end. Yeah, you know, Notre Dame started talking, Notre Dame. Yes,
- 46:40Speaker 1: I'm just I can't. You can't compare those two. Um,
- 46:46Speaker 1: they're just completely incomparable personally, Like I know Shady and UK.
- 46:57Speaker 1: It's firing Bruce Cassidy one of the dumbest decisions in
- 47:00Speaker 1: Austin sporting history. Say what you want about the Patriots GM,
- 47:03Speaker 1: at least he doesn't fire a coach who's taking them
- 47:05Speaker 1: to the playoffs regularly and maximizing the time away. That's funny. Um.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I know Paul are on the same page with this one,
- 47:15Speaker 1: but yeah, you know, look, I think two things. I
- 47:17Speaker 1: always thought Cassidy, no matter how many injuries they seem
- 47:20Speaker 1: to have, they seem to always kind of be competitive
- 47:23Speaker 1: and in the thick of it. Now that said, I
- 47:25Speaker 1: also think they haven't really developed anybody. So I don't
- 47:27Speaker 1: know if that's his fault or who's players. That's the
- 47:30Speaker 1: one criticism I would say of Cassidy is I think
- 47:32Speaker 1: he's inpatient with young guys, and I think that I
- 47:37Speaker 1: don't think they've really gotten burned by it, but they've
- 47:40Speaker 1: sort of moved on quickly from some young players. They've
- 47:42Speaker 1: been able to just lean on Marsh. I mean, that's
- 47:44Speaker 1: been the team, you know, And then as long as
- 47:46Speaker 1: those guys produced, they've been pretty good. But even still
- 47:49Speaker 1: when they've lost some of those guys during the regular
- 47:51Speaker 1: season for links of time, I feel like they were
- 47:54Speaker 1: always surprising and how competitive they were able to do.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I think, you know, it's a I just think it's
- 48:01Speaker 1: close to a ground zero Rico And maybe he, you know,
- 48:05Speaker 1: wasn't the guy they felt was the best suited for that,
- 48:07Speaker 1: and that's why they made the move. But it didn't
- 48:09Speaker 1: make a lot of sense to me. But you look
- 48:11Speaker 1: at guys like like Ryan Donado and Danton had and like,
- 48:16Speaker 1: I know, some of these guys, even Frank Vatrano, you know,
- 48:19Speaker 1: going back a little bit, some of these guys have
- 48:21Speaker 1: carved out decent careers for themselves. But I don't think
- 48:24Speaker 1: they've really missed like a Nola Chari or any of
- 48:26Speaker 1: these young guys. Sean Corrally like they were always buried
- 48:31Speaker 1: bottom six guys here and it looks like Cassidy was
- 48:35Speaker 1: never really willing to embrace them. But I don't really
- 48:38Speaker 1: think they've missed them either. No, you just you needed
- 48:41Speaker 1: somebody like debrus to develop into the next you know,
- 48:43Speaker 1: marshand into a consistent on his own goal scorer, and
- 48:47Speaker 1: all right, all away from the Bruins, but that was
- 48:51Speaker 1: our take. It is. I mean, it's topical. I mean,
- 48:54Speaker 1: it's not not often that a guy that's won sixty
- 48:56Speaker 1: five percent of his games gets fired. That's true. Let's
- 48:58Speaker 1: catch people up with what's going out on the field. Sure,
- 49:01Speaker 1: a little. Uh, it's just small shell of seven on seven.
- 49:04Speaker 1: It's the offense running some routes with five five man routes,
- 49:08Speaker 1: but no defense involved. So probably ramping up here in
- 49:11Speaker 1: a minute, probably I would think, I think we're getting
- 49:13Speaker 1: ready for a little of that. I agree with you, dudes,
- 49:15Speaker 1: because the defense is doing the same thing down the
- 49:17Speaker 1: other end. Um, I think you'll see some of the
- 49:22Speaker 1: offense defense work together, which is when you can sort
- 49:25Speaker 1: of see a little like I'm not going to say competitive,
- 49:27Speaker 1: but seven on seven, Yeah, you see a little you
- 49:29Speaker 1: see a little situation where you get a place you
- 49:33Speaker 1: can see a little separation separates. Was the ball out
- 49:36Speaker 1: on time by the quarterback? You know? Was it accurate?
- 49:39Speaker 1: Because these plays right now they're just running. Every ball
- 49:41Speaker 1: is getting completed. There's no defense all right. Um, even
- 49:45Speaker 1: Nakill Harry's open Russell and Arkansas writes in on the
- 49:48Speaker 1: coaching topic Darius Butler said on the Pat McAfee show
- 49:51Speaker 1: a few weeks back that it's always been like this
- 49:54Speaker 1: in New England. One coach has a title, but a
- 49:57Speaker 1: different coach is doing the actual coaching. I guess Dar
- 50:00Speaker 1: once got asked in a press conference if he was
- 50:02Speaker 1: learning a lot from his position coach, and he said, nah,
- 50:05Speaker 1: he ain't my coach. I thought it was interesting. Paul
- 50:08Speaker 1: probably won't also, I know it's no. I think that's
- 50:11Speaker 1: the way it works. I know, to the contrary, I
- 50:13Speaker 1: think that's exactly the way it works. I know it's
- 50:15Speaker 1: also been asked a hundred times, but is it at
- 50:17Speaker 1: all possible that Harry switches to tight end, especially since
- 50:22Speaker 1: Asiasi and Keene haven't been healthy or played since they
- 50:25Speaker 1: were drafted. Asiasi was healthy all last year. Yeah, he
- 50:31Speaker 1: was the third tight end all year. Keene has not
- 50:34Speaker 1: been healthy at all and he even looked like he
- 50:36Speaker 1: was banged up in said Mike said he suffered a setback,
- 50:40Speaker 1: but he is. I mean he was out there today.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Um yeah, I means right there, just caught a pass
- 50:47Speaker 1: um nikkil Harry to tight end. I think is one
- 50:51Speaker 1: final straw. I saw Mike reas wrote about this over
- 50:53Speaker 1: the weekend. We've been writing about it in our mail
- 50:55Speaker 1: bag seemingly for two years. Mike, would you say, um,
- 50:59Speaker 1: I think might be one of those situations where the
- 51:01Speaker 1: Patriots just saying, what can we do anything to possibly
- 51:06Speaker 1: increase his trade value and make someone interested. Oh, he
- 51:09Speaker 1: could play tight end too, He's got some versatility to
- 51:11Speaker 1: his game. Yeah, maybe maybe that helps some team. I
- 51:14Speaker 1: did see, and now the name is going to escape me.
- 51:18Speaker 1: I did see a rumor of a backup defensive lineman
- 51:21Speaker 1: from Dallas. There was a rumor that Harry for this
- 51:25Speaker 1: backup defensive lineman for Dallas swap that I saw over
- 51:28Speaker 1: the weekend on my Twitter feed, and it's a former
- 51:31Speaker 1: second round pick who, similar to Harry, is not really
- 51:35Speaker 1: amounted too much with the Cowboys. In three years. I
- 51:37Speaker 1: think he had like twenty five tackles, so he's been
- 51:41Speaker 1: a disappointment as a second round pick. Maybe those those
- 51:45Speaker 1: two guys, change teams, change the scenery, one of those
- 51:47Speaker 1: kind of moves. Hey, earlier we had a spotting of
- 51:51Speaker 1: old friend Ernie Adams on the field, So yes, he
- 51:56Speaker 1: has retired, but he was out here today, so just
- 52:01Speaker 1: kind of watching probably, But you know. It's funny because
- 52:03Speaker 1: when Matt Smith and I talked to him on our
- 52:06Speaker 1: Pats from the Past podcast a couple of weeks ago,
- 52:08Speaker 1: East was like, nah, yeah, I know, I don't miss
- 52:10Speaker 1: it at all. Yeah, and here he is out here watching. Yeah.
- 52:13Speaker 1: We got mister Kraft down there talking to Matt grow
- 52:16Speaker 1: grow Yeah. And uh. I also got to give a
- 52:18Speaker 1: shout out to Holy Cross head coach Bob Chesney, who
- 52:21Speaker 1: was down there taking in practice today. Is it Bob Chesney?
- 52:24Speaker 1: Bob Chesney? Is it conventional spelling? You just save me
- 52:28Speaker 1: a look up on that, correct, as well as his
- 52:30Speaker 1: wide receiver coach Drew Canan. They were wonderful to me
- 52:33Speaker 1: when I went out to their pro day out there
- 52:35Speaker 1: at my own the Mater, and it's cool to see them,
- 52:37Speaker 1: and they're always down there. They're always get to us
- 52:39Speaker 1: in the high school coaching clinic that we have for
- 52:42Speaker 1: the coaches there, they always speak and give presentations and
- 52:47Speaker 1: Holy Cross always one of the better groups putting on
- 52:51Speaker 1: clinics here at the stadium. See. Now, you know, we
- 52:54Speaker 1: were talking about the logistical problems of having eighty five
- 52:57Speaker 1: guys work out on one field, and you see this
- 52:59Speaker 1: a little but now the offense is sort of in
- 53:02Speaker 1: between the hill that separates the training camp fields to
- 53:07Speaker 1: the lower field, kind of running through some place U,
- 53:11Speaker 1: you know, against I don't know a show of the
- 53:13Speaker 1: defense anyway. Is it like a nine on seven kind
- 53:16Speaker 1: of a thing, Mike, Yeah, So it seems like, you know,
- 53:18Speaker 1: while there's special teamwork going on the main field, and
- 53:23Speaker 1: and Belichick is with that group. By the way, the
- 53:26Speaker 1: special teams no with that group on the side of
- 53:30Speaker 1: the field. So, um, let's see. Eric writes in he
- 53:37Speaker 1: says it's his birthday, so happy birthday. Hoping you guys
- 53:40Speaker 1: will answer a few questions. M No playing the middle
- 53:44Speaker 1: on these answers, he says, I make no promises. First one,
- 53:48Speaker 1: I waffle what's more important today's football youth and speed
- 53:51Speaker 1: or as Brady says, knowing all the answers, but a
- 53:54Speaker 1: half step slower depends on the position, right, Yeah, no,
- 53:59Speaker 1: waffle on. Yeah, if your quarterback, I'd take the ladder,
- 54:02Speaker 1: But if anybody else, I'd probably, you know, any other position,
- 54:05Speaker 1: but quarterback, I would say youth and speed. Like the answers,
- 54:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna take um A note from Devin mccordy's book, Um,
- 54:14Speaker 1: someone actually asked him, Um, he noticed that the Patriots
- 54:18Speaker 1: were everyonell not the Patriot, the Patriots, but everyone was
- 54:20Speaker 1: drafting faster on the defense and the importance of that.
- 54:23Speaker 1: And he's like, well, how much does speed really matter?
- 54:25Speaker 1: When you don't know the playbook or when you aren't productive,
- 54:28Speaker 1: you can be super fast. But it's easily for him
- 54:30Speaker 1: to say he's super fast, and so did you just say, still,
- 54:36Speaker 1: mccordy is one of the faster guys the Patriots of Oh,
- 54:39Speaker 1: I would guarantee he's one of the faster Patriots. So
- 54:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna say you could take that either way. You
- 54:44Speaker 1: know me, it's more important to be productive than to
- 54:47Speaker 1: be fast, because what if you're super fast but you're
- 54:49Speaker 1: not productive. But then I don't think that we were
- 54:51Speaker 1: deciding between productive and fast, were we. I thought it
- 54:55Speaker 1: was a step slow but having all the answers, Yeah, well,
- 54:57Speaker 1: I would say slow and having the answers being productive.
- 55:02Speaker 1: M I can give you a lot of guys that
- 55:04Speaker 1: are slow and have the answers that arm. How about this,
- 55:07Speaker 1: give me some fast guys and we'll give them the answers.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Coach him up. Second question. Parker and Myers were born
- 55:14Speaker 1: in Thornton as your top two Parker Myers or Bornton
- 55:20Speaker 1: Parker Myers. I don't know if it means can I
- 55:23Speaker 1: go Born and Myers? Yeah? Like I know, can I
- 55:25Speaker 1: go Born and Myers? Is that considered being in the middle? Probably?
- 55:29Speaker 1: But yeah I would go. I don't. I don't know
- 55:31Speaker 1: if he means we think will be or who do
- 55:33Speaker 1: we want to be? But is not going to be? Yeah?
- 55:38Speaker 1: If I if I had a pick too that I
- 55:39Speaker 1: think it's going to be. I think it'd be Parker
- 55:41Speaker 1: and Myers. Yeah, I agree, Freddy three would the would
- 55:45Speaker 1: the team be better if the same team is today,
- 55:48Speaker 1: but swap Lamar Jackson for Mac or adding Debo and
- 55:52Speaker 1: Marlon Humphrey and giving up Butler and Myers. No, but
- 55:58Speaker 1: in Marlin Humphrey and you give up Butler and Myers.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Oh I would do that. Yeah, yeah, I would do
- 56:04Speaker 1: the second absolutely, second one, Deebo Samuel, But you're you're
- 56:07Speaker 1: taking you're taking away like middling players for stars, right, Like, yes,
- 56:11Speaker 1: I'll do that. And then like and I mean the
- 56:14Speaker 1: Lamar experience would be feaster famine. I feel yeah, I
- 56:18Speaker 1: mean Lamar would be fine, but like you'd still have
- 56:20Speaker 1: your team Yeah, like you you're taking Marlon Humphrey would
- 56:24Speaker 1: be a number one corner and Deebo Samuel will be
- 56:26Speaker 1: a number one weapon on offense. Yeah, I'll take that. Yeah,
- 56:32Speaker 1: I would answer a lot of the questions that we have. Yeah,
- 56:34Speaker 1: I don't think we were on the defense too much. Right,
- 56:37Speaker 1: all right, here they come. It's like we're about to
- 56:39Speaker 1: get after it. All right, so uh morn blows, right,
- 56:43Speaker 1: Can I say that relatively mini camp get after it,
- 56:45Speaker 1: not training camp get out? Looks like we might see
- 56:47Speaker 1: a little seven on seven. I see blues and whites
- 56:50Speaker 1: going to the same part of the field, so that's
- 56:52Speaker 1: usually a sign we're gonna see some Yeah, and the
- 56:56Speaker 1: offensive line. You know, it's interesting. We don't ever get
- 56:58Speaker 1: to see like the Dante's Inferno work of the offensive line,
- 57:01Speaker 1: but they do it right right in front of us
- 57:03Speaker 1: on this one. So you can tell how excited I
- 57:06Speaker 1: am to be able to watch the offensive line. Plus, okay,
- 57:08Speaker 1: they seem excited about you know, a new picture for
- 57:11Speaker 1: everyone that's listening. We now see Joe Judge with Mac
- 57:15Speaker 1: not Matt Patricia, passing game coordinator, running game. Yeah, track
- 57:21Speaker 1: them right, all right, get your stats ready? Yeah, I
- 57:25Speaker 1: will not be. But we do have a little seven
- 57:27Speaker 1: on seven shaping up, which is nice. Yeah. Me got
- 57:32Speaker 1: some music that will probably be scrubbed later from this program. Yes,
- 57:35Speaker 1: you you won't hear it when you hear the podcast.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Don't mention what it is, all right? Mac with his
- 57:43Speaker 1: first play, dump off to Montgomery Tiline pass with gravy brain. Yes,
- 57:48Speaker 1: seven on seven. Ye, And it's just like we were
- 57:53Speaker 1: here last year. A lot of little swing pass in
- 57:55Speaker 1: the backfield to our running back. Well, listen, if you
- 57:59Speaker 1: know where is Patricia right now? He's with the offensive lineman. Okay, Yeah,
- 58:11Speaker 1: So Bill Belichick is behind the defense deep deep deep
- 58:15Speaker 1: behind Devin mccordy. Now that's typically where you see Bill Belichick.
- 58:21Speaker 1: So it's interesting. So if you know, I know he
- 58:24Speaker 1: doesn't have the title, but if Joe Judge is the
- 58:26Speaker 1: passing game coordinator, it would make sense for him to
- 58:30Speaker 1: be where he is right now, you know. And and
- 58:33Speaker 1: I do think there's some truth to that. Yeah, Like
- 58:35Speaker 1: that's like media speculation that I actually think might have
- 58:38Speaker 1: some merit, right, you know. And then Patricia, since there's
- 58:42Speaker 1: no lineman involved here, this is Patricia's he's with the line. Yeah,
- 58:46Speaker 1: he's with the lineman getting his time in with them.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Hi himbilliates. So this doesn't mean like, oh Joe Judge
- 58:55Speaker 1: is gonna call the place. It just means that in
- 58:58Speaker 1: this particular drill people tray Tray Nixon nice frock down Wow,
- 59:06Speaker 1: very nice cat. Ye put it over the outside shoulder nicely. Yeah.
- 59:12Speaker 1: And that was what like about a forty five yard pass.
- 59:15Speaker 1: So yeah, and I think he might have beat j
- 59:19Speaker 1: Jones on that one. A little bit of wind going
- 59:22Speaker 1: from right to left. Maybe we'll see one like that
- 59:26Speaker 1: with Thornton later. Yeah. Yeah, that's uh, well, that's what
- 59:31Speaker 1: we want now on the field. Yeah, he's lining up
- 59:34Speaker 1: kind of in the little outside. Who we talking about?
- 59:40Speaker 1: Oh he just stopped? Come on, what is this? No hitches?
- 59:45Speaker 1: He's got to learn those. That's the only routes today runs.
- 59:48Speaker 1: It's it's good to see, you know what. You know,
- 59:50Speaker 1: if you look at the scouting report, one of the
- 59:52Speaker 1: things that is a knock on him is he's not
- 59:55Speaker 1: really quick in small spaces, but getting to a space
- 59:59Speaker 1: could be an advantage there. And we saw that. We
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: saw him get to a space, stop and then be
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: available for the past. You know, that's exactly what that
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: play was, so maybe he can be have a role
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: inside on those type of patterns. Yeah, I got some
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: love from Mac who ran up to him and pumped
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: him up. Yeah. I just you know, I know, I know,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: we talk all about the quality of the weaponry, and
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: you know, is there a Deebo Samuel and the team know? Um,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: but there's a lot of really solid guys. I just
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: don't know how it's all gonna play out between the
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: receiver group, the running back group, and even the tight
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: end group. You know, what, what five guys you put
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: on the fields. I like the look of our deficit,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: I really do. I do. I mean, I just I
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: wonder how it's gonna come together and if you can
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: settle on a group of guys that you really like,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: or if it's gonna be a lot of feeling out
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: and you know, guys running in, running out, or are
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: they gonna have kind of a core group that they
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: find that they can lean on, or is it gonna
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: be all right one week at Stevens and one week
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: it's uh, you know, Damian Harris and and Hunter Henry
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: and you know now it's Johnny, you know, I mean,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: it sounds great on paper, but I also just think
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: there's something to Hey, this is who we are, this
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: is the guys we know we're at our best with.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Let's lean into this rather than you know, being a
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: state of constantly trying to figure it out. Five five
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: past five hundred is the eighth ticket, half line. Let's
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: go to that right now, Todd and North Carolina is
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: on the line. Hey Todd, Hey guys, it's nice to
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: see all there. My first question is I noticed a
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: lot of the bigger guys have leg races on. Is
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: that just what they do for training camp or is
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: that a standard practice thing just to prevent injuries or yeah,
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: I'm not sure it's mandatory, but it is highly encouraged
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: that um lineman offense and defense where braces during practice. Yeah,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: because my fear is you can get black pretty good
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: with a brace if you uh, you know, you're bump
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: into somebody here something. Guy. I know one of my
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: friends had his kneecap taken off by a guy wearing
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: a knee brace when they were both in co Wow. Well,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: you know, we don't want that to happen. But they're
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: going at like less than half speed now, So I mean,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: I would say there's a much higher yeah, degree of
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: probability of tearing an ecl without a brace on out
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: here than someone banging knees with someone with a brace on. Yeah,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: So get they're pretty spread out here, there's not a
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: lot of there's no you know, contact really whatsoever. So
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I wouldn't worry about that nice little dump off there
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: to JJ Taylor, who you know, just continues to be
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: a quick, little elusive water bug, that Darren Sprowls type player.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I just I know, we had that fumble last year
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: against the Bucks and we never saw him. We never
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: saw him again. Yeah, You've always been a big JJ Taylor.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: It's just he always pops off the field, especially in
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: these situations of seven on seven stuff where he's just
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: so quick. Yeah. But you know, but but but it's
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: going back to what we were just saying though. I mean,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: they've just between the two guys they drafted this year,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Stevenson last year. I mean, Harris I'll be entering the
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: last year of his deal. It's just it's just tough
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: for him, you think that. I mean, in a perfect world,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: he would have slid in for James White last year
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: and really sees that role. But you know, went to
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Brandon Bolden. Okay, let's see, so we got Harry Thornton
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: and Malcolm Perry at receiver now. Oliver writes in loving
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: the coverage watching from the United Kingdom and enjoying seeing
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: the minting camp work as someone who's had less experience
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: with the sport than most. What is it that catch
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: that coaches will be hoping to see from players at
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: this stage of the preseason. Can the rookie players impress already?
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Or is it too early? Yeah? You know what you're doing,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Know what you're doing. I mean, even though it's a
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: reduced speed and there's no hitting play call comes in,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: you know you're in the right spot, You're making the
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: right decision. I mean, it's you know, these rookies, it's
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: it's all coming at him now. It's been coming at
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: him for the last two months since they got here,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I'm sure. But you know, just I think knowing what
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: to do and mentally being on the same page and
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: not making and you're gonna make mistakes, but not continuing
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: to make the same mistakes. The word error repeater, right,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: But the phrase error repeater gets brought up a lot here.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Would would you say at this point in this season,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: it's easier to hurt yourself or help yourself with what
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: you do in the field. I might say hurt yourself.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: I would probably say hurt yourself too. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: just just because if you if you're there and you
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: know what to do when you're in the right spot,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: it's not really okay, that's that's the basic. But yeah,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: if you're totally clueless, then I mean yeah, and I
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: think it would have to be really egregious both ways
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: for it to be an impactful, Like, yeah, we can't
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: use this guy. He can't play like he like. It's
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: like Mike said, like, you know, the most basic things
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: that you've been going over for a month, they're still
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: screwing up. But then you get a you know, a
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: catchlight we saw with Trey Nixon that can't hurt him.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: You know, the fact that he caught it and he
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: outran Jay Jones. I mean, that's this fast guy on
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: the roster that they're probably is he. I mean that's
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: a catch Yeah, I mean that catch has got to
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: be made. I mean, it certainly doesn't help if he
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: drops it. But I agree with Mike. I think the
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: fact that he got behind Jonathan Jones is probably a
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: much better barometer of that play than anything else. He
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: he was open and Mac got it to him. Yeah, um,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: you know, another one like these. What are you looking for?
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: What are you trying to see? And I always tell
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: you I look at new guys to see what they
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: can do, what kind of skill set they might have.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Kevin Harris looks pretty comfortable to me coming out of
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: the backfield night. Yeah, have you noticed that a little
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: bit like I mean a couple four or five plays ago,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: he caught a little swing from Mac, you know, in stride,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: you know, smooth didn't fight the ball at all. And
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: again this is they are going against the defense. But
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: this is by no means, you know, overly competitive right here. Um,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: But I just he looked like a guy who's come
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: out of the backfield to catch a pass before. And sometimes,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: you know, we all know that some of these guys
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: don't look like that. Yep, Jeff and Boston writes, and
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: he wants to know how John Smith looks. I think
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: if he makes a big leap and becomes what we
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: thought here was going to get from him last year,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: could really change the overall explosiveness in the offense and
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: open things up for guys like Parker or Born. That said,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: who do you guys think is the most important player
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: on offense besides Mac that will be key for the
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: offense being successful this year. That's a good question. I
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: think it's Parker. Yeah, that was That was one of
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: the first ones I was thinking of. You brought him
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: in for a reason, right, Yeah, yeah, Parker was the
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: first thing I thought of too. I'll go with Bourn
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: just because I think he's the best receiver they have
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: and the most consistent. And by the way, we should
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: say we haven't seen him today. Yeah, you know, Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: But I mean, I understand your argument for Parker. I
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: just I guess I'm not as confident that he's going
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: to be able to play the whole season. There's another
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: catch for Taekwon coming a little underneath from Zach. It's
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: almost like they don't want to show us have him run,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: just gonna have him run two yard routes. Yeah, we's
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I know you can run fast straight up, you know,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: but let's see what I want to see it. I
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: want to see, if you know, when he runs fast,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: see takeoff. Yeah, yeah, I think that's a good point though, Paul,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: because my my hesitation with Parker is just that how
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: much of an impact is he really going to have?
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: And I think game in, game out, you need somebody
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: like Born who's going to be the consistent chain mover,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: big play kind of guy. And more than likely the
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: boring answer is probably the right one is there's the
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: running backs, Stevenson, Stevenson and Harris. Yeah, and there's Montgomery
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: with another catch. I mean there's another guy with you know,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I ran through the whole running back group, didn't really
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: mention him. I mean, he's been a little bit more
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: with the receivers, but that's just that one was out,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: one was out of the backfield, and mostly with the
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: with the uh, with the receivers. You're right, Mike, But
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: you're right, Mike. But he's in that mix of of
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: you know, how do those rules all get get divvied up? It's, uh,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: You've got a lot of guys who can do a
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: lot of different things. Samara's gonna have to jump, she's
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: got to get ready for an interview with Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Oh that's where he is. Yeah. Oh, so he's getting
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: ready for an interview with you instead of practicing. I
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: get it. I get it. Uh, let's see, Pete writes
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: in uh, give me your best thought on the outside
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: chance to make the roster somebody with a with like
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: a dark horse kind of Oh he doesn't give us anything.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Oh jeez, yeah, no, no multiple choice here. You know,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: this is I this is probably not a great one.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: But we haven't even seen him yet and he's not
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: out here today as Andrew Stubert. But that was somebody
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: that you know Andy talking to Andy as well. Heart
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: he's kind of on him too, like, you know, just
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: a random low level offensive lineman that maybe comes in
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: and is you know, instantly the third guy. Uh that
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: that that's the first one that kind of jumped to mind.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I don't think it's a great one, um, just because
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: he hasn't really been around and I have no reason
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: other than just to say he looks like a big
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: mean dude that that played at Michigan. But um, yeah,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: I mean it's hard. It's because there's a lot of
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: B level guys that they do. Yeah, Matt, but do
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: you know who's a surprise? You know what I mean? Like,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: who's an outside Like I think that's a hard one
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: without guys to sort of pick from him. Okay, here's one.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna happen. But to me, an
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: outside guy to make the roster would be nikkil Harry Huh, Yeah,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I don't agree with you. I don't
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: think he's gonna be on the roster, but if he
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: made it, that would be an outside Yeah, you know,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: but I don't. I don't. That's not my pick. That's
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: not my choice. I get what you're doing. Yeah, so
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't. I don't know. It's it's
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: so wide open, you know. Uh, after mini camp, maybe
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: even after the we have another OTA next week that
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: we're scheduled to do, I'll probably put together a roster
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: one point zero because just because it's fun. Yeah, it
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: is fun. It's fun. Just a fact you guys probably
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: wouldn't like it because you two don't like fun, just
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: as long as it's not team pictures after touchdowns. That's
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Caberras from Toledo and Morocco. And he's really not happy.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Oh I'm sorry, he says, I am so pessimistic this
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: upcoming NFL year. I am predicting a record of seven
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: and ten at best. Belichick coaching philosophy is prehistoric. From
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: watching his press conference, the guy still thinks that he
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: has the goat at quarterback and players willing to do
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: what it takes to win. This generation of players live
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: off their brand in social media and will not answer
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: to an old man. Tom was driving force in the
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Patriots dynasty. Just watch all the Super Bowls. Every single
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: one of them was a defensive failure by a defensive genius.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: The fourteen and eighteen were mainly victories because of other
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: coaches peeing their pants. I don't know, man, that's pretty harsh.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: That that that's way harsh. Plus I don't really care
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: if like they won the soup like the actual Super
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Bowl game for one of those reasons. You're telling me
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: that they won, you know, seventeen eighteen, nineteen games to
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: get there because the other you know what I mean, right, Like, yeah,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Pete Carroll pete his pants with the game on the line,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: he made a god awful decision. But you're telling me
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: the fourteen team wasn't worthy of being where they were. Now,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: what he's saying about the modern athlete being a little
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: bit different, Yeah, I think this truth that there is truth,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: And I think Bill has said that, and I think
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Bill has also adjusted somewhat to that. Could you imagine
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: fifteen years ago Bill being is embracing of social media
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: with these guys as he is, right right, Like I don't.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I haven't heard of situations with these guys have like
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: lost their privileges to be on social media. I think
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: he's he's adapted. Does he like it? Probably not? I
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: got a dumb thought. This occurred to me, and you
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: can tell me if I'm anywhere close. But watching the Celtics.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: You've been watching the Celtics in the playoffs, and I mean,
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: obviously their their team, their core. I'm proud of you that.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I'm proud of you that you've watched a couple of games.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Is that generation, but they feel so mercurial from game
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: to game, and you can't. I mean some of it
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: was like they're either blowing guys out or they're not
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: blowing guys out. Some of it. I wonder if you
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: know some of what the guy was writing in about it,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: just you know, this generation, it's just so mentally, it seems. Yeah,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: it's tough. It's tough to find that like consistent killer
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: mentality at least. I mean, that's just my bad example,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: look at watching the Celtics periment. But it's true. Why
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: are they sometimes so good and other times they look
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: like they're not even here tonight. That's the word mercurial.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: If they're hot and cold, they're they're all over the map.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: And with that particular team, I'm not we already spent
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: enough time in the Bruins. We don't need to do
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: in the Celtics too. But I do think that they're
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: very young. Yeah, there's a young team. They have one,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: they have one, they have one veteran now and now
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: half it, as Mark Jackson would say, um, but the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: rest of them, you know, they're twenty four, twenty five
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: years old and they're they're finding their way. Yep. So
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: a little bit more uh now full team drills, working
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: on the running game. So we got a eleven on
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: eleven now right, Yeah, eleven on eleven, some significant MAC
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: doing a while to watching the rotation going on. Yeah,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: so Bradley, what's his name is Zappy? Is that his
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: first name? Bradley Bailey? Bailey? Y you just confuse me.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: We have a Bradley on the on the Yeah, Bradley's
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: at the department now he's probably happy. He's pretty happy
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: with Zappy. Yeah, he's a happy guy in general. He's
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: no slappy. He's zappy. Oh boy, going at shotgun now.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Zappy is Mac on the center. I like what I
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: see out of Zappy. Would he be m a dark
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: horse to make the squad? I think Zappy should. Uh
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: he'll probably be on the practice squad. Huh, I mean
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: I think he could. Yeah, I mean I could see
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: either way if they didn't think that he would be
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: able to to stay on the practice squad. But yeah,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: I mean I think practice squad makes sense. He's looked
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: pretty good. I mean it's just limited stuff, but but
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: I think he's got some nice little zip on the ball.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Seemed like he's pretty decisive where he's going with it
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: and stuff. Yeah, I mean he doesn't very very He
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: doesn't look like he's overwhelmed or anything like that. Um.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: But I mean I said a lot of these things
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: last year about Mac Jones. He looks like most of
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the other rookie quarterbacks that they've had in camp. Um,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: you know, and at this stage, I'm saying, like you
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: can't really tell until they got It's like you can
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: look okay, it's easy to look really bad. It's hard
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: to look excellent right now. Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I think it's easier to look really bad. I think
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: I see Ivan Fears in the end zone nearest to
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: us walking across. Is that Let's see that would be
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Ian Fear. Yeah, so, uh, all the old guys talking
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: about sunsetting people. There you go, Ernie's here, Ivan's here,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: They're all in the offensive huddle. What is going on?
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Where's Dante? Dante coming out here? He's probably up at
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: the infernal So now the plays coming toward us? Actor
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Trey Nixon again. Yeah, the Ernie Adams pick there you go. Well,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: that's a good I mean, that'd be a good pick
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: for an outside, right outside job, right spot to make
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: the roster. You know we talked about, um, you know,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: the number of wide receivers they have. That would be
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: a long shot for him to make it. Tim from
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Hubbardston Mass writes in with Romeo, we just mentioned some
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: of the old guys. With Romeo Cornell announcing his retirement,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: do you guys think he belongs in the Patriots Hall
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: of Fame someday? Do you think coordinators who helped us
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: win titles like Cronell Weiss and McDaniels should eventually get in.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I don't. I don't either, So there, and you're not
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: going to find anyone who likes Romeo Cornell more than
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: I do. Right, It's one of the nicest men that
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: we've ever had here UM. But I mean, I think
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: he was a really good assistant coach. I think Dante
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: Scarnekia is an institution. Yeah right, and he would I
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: would make an exception for that based on longevity, the
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: amount of different errors he was a part of UM
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: and all the different things that he did along the way.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: But I mean, I think they've had a lot of
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: good assistant coaches over the years. I think Romeo is
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: one of them. I think that's that's enough. What do
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: you guys? I mean, you guys agree. I agree, especially
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: on Scarnekio, which uh I know. I brought it up
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: a couple of times in high school. I worked a
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: game in nineteen ninety two against the Saints, and digging
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: that up on YouTube, I didn't even realize Dante Scarnekia
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: had been the coach for that game. He was the Yeah,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: he was the head coach after McPherson got sick, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: so there he was on the sideline. So I mean,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: he's just been around forever, he's done at all. Yeah,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: that was one of those players they just ran um
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: but kind of a quick slant of Thornton in traffic,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: and that's one of those kind of plays that his size.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: I wonder if he has the frame to withstand. You know,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: there was three guys that were converging and he would
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: have taken a big hit on that had been you know,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: actual football. Well, and that's like, that's kind of like
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: what we saw from Harry some of those plays. And
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: even with Harry's size, he had trouble right, you know,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: with some of the catch point and are both last
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: year took some big hits on some of those plays.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I know it's kind of hard to keep track of everything,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: but have we noticed the usage of win yet? H Yeah,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: are we allowed to notice the usage? Has he been
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: out there? He has been out there's been he's been
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: at tackle. He's been at tackle. Okay, so it's not
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: like he's he's being ostracized because of you know, no
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: him not being here, no, no, but uh, but maybe
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: some some slight adjustments into into how they're looking at
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: him Okay, all right, good enough. I mean, right now,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Trent Brown is at left tackle and Isaiah Wins at
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: right tackle. I mean we're just looking right at them.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: And I don't know if that's like any kind of
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: a permanent fix or what they're gonna do, but that's
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: where they'll lined up. Yep. This is mostly inside inside
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: run game work. It seems a little play acts and stuff.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: But yeah, and it's further lending credence to that Matt
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Patricia theory because he was heavily involved with the play
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: calling on both sides. Yeah, with all the running that
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: they just exactly because now now it's a mix of
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: run in pass with the line out there. So this
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: is more like, you know, a game situation. So is
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: that is that McMillan inside with Bentley down there? Deuce? Yep?
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Can you give me any other details to the defense
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: because I've been neglecting that Ronnie Ronnie off the edge
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: right now a little bit of So Ronnie is with
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: that a little bod Yeah, not right now, Judeon's off.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: I mean they've been they've been kind of mixing and matching.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Uch was out there earlier across from Judean and Um
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: so there's been there's been some rotation going on. I mean,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Joan Williams was out there with you know, the quote
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: unquote starters. I guess you could call it. I mean
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: it's just, you know, there's always got like one or
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: two guys out there that maybe don't quite fit what
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: you're what you think you're looking at. So who's sixty
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: seven and blue? That's the guy from Texas? Right? Okay, No,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: I'm hold on, I'll look it up. Hold on, he's
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: got long hair. He looks like that's the guy. That's
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: the guy who was thinking of Yeah, yeah, special Teams, Nightmare,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Wye Nightmare. Oh. I don't know. He's just he's he's
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: one of those like super special teamers with like long hair. Yeah,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: he just he's just embodies that those guys teams Paul's favorite.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: H let's see. Matt writes in from the UK and
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Devin uk Uh. He says, I've been a bit behind
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: on the show for the past few weeks and it
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: just called up and heard the news about Eric. Everyone
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: was being so nice about him in his final week.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I'm wondering when the true feelings will come out. My
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: biggest question is who is going to sit quietly at
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: the back, too scared to say anything now. Yeah, I
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: would say a couple of weeks you might hear a
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: little bit more truth to start. Yeah, just trashing what
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: with mini camp and things that we actually have to cover.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Eric was a great guy. I don't think if there's
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: anything you can say now you wouldn't say in front
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: of his face to make fun of about him that
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: I was certainly the case for man, It's like, what
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: could you say to him that you haven't said to him? Right? Also,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: I just want to I just want to put Paul's
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: mind to rest regarding Mac Wilson. I've been playing one
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: of the Madden games recently, and Mac develops into a
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: star player, So don't worry. In all seriousness, I know
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: Paul likes people to say what they think out loud
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: before it happens. So I just wanted to say that
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: I'm really excited about having Mac Wilson on our team,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: and I believe that he will be a major player
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: for us and develop into a really solid NFL player.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: All Right, he can run well all the beginning part
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: of that is gonna be true. He's going to be
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: a major player. I don't know how good he is,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: but he's going to play. Yeah. So now that we're
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: doing some special teams. Yeah, and this is my my
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: annual Why would they practice punting if they didn't because
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: they have to punt rum. But anyway, my annual teas
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: is taking place today with Kyle Dugger getting a lot
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: of pun return rests um. Unfortunately we don't generally get
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: to see it when it counts. But Jonathan Jones has
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: been fielding some. Jack Jones too. Jack Jones has been
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: fielding some. We've seen that all spring so far, and
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I think Miles Bryant was getting some earlier. Yep. Yeah,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: I don't know if he's still out there, but we
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: haven't seen. Marcus Jones is in a red jersey. Yeah,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: double shoulder surgery this offseason. So Alex and Pentucket love
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: to see the video content. That was great. Seems like
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Mike and Paul have been agreeing so much that they
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: agreed to dress the similar today blue. Yeah. Yeah, unlike
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: me and Fred on the Draft show, we had the
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: same shirt on teens. I will agree with Mike and
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Fred that the defense is more of my worry for
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: this season. Again, I'm hoping the youth can step up
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: and take their chances. When I see mini camp, I
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: sometimes get lost with what I should be taking away
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: from this since there's no pads and minimal real football.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: So my question is, what is something that you guys
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: each take away from a mini camp that gives you
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: hope for the season? If anything, you ask me after Thursday, yeah,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: we're gonna have three days of this, So I have
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: to be honest, like, there's really nothing for me, Yeah,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: because I just think this is all installation stuff. This
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: is that you have to get the system down, and
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: that's that's first and foremost. I don't think you see
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: a lot of physical stuff that you can get wowed
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: by here. Yeah. I would just say last year was
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: probably the exception, just because I saw Mack and he
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: looked like he kind of knew what he was doing,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: and that was at least, you know, for a teena
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: didn't have a quarterback and didn't know what direction they
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: were going for. That was That was it for me.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: But I mean, for all the questions that I have
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: about this team, there's not really much that can happen
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: over the next few days that would really put my
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: mind at ease in terms of setting the edge or
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: you know, being able to cover some of the best
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: weapons in the league, and you know, the pure football perspective.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: I agree with Mike. Now just regular I like to see,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: you know, like key guys that might be battling injuries,
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: they look healthy. Stuff like that. Like I said, like
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I said, attendance, Mike, I think you made the comment
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: that you know, from a from a health standpoint, it
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: looks like virtually everybody is out here you know that
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: we know of that's you know, coming off injuries. So
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: that's a good sign. You don't want to have key
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: players that are going to be missed this, like like
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna have to miss the whole offseason.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: You don't want a situation where, right, like Savante Parker
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: was banged up hitting into this didn't he can't get
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: to do any of it. Right. Those are things that
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: can give you some you know, optimism coming out of
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: mini camps while they're doing special teams a good time
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: for some trip. Excellent about this is from Enrique and Monterey. Um,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: what is the only team to miss making the playoffs
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: for six consecutive seasons after winning the Super Bowl? Huh?
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: After winning the Super Bowl. Six seasons after that they
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: didn't make the playoffs. It's Denver is correct. They haven't
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: reached the playoffs since winning Who was the only player
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: in NFL history to win three consecutive consecutive Super Bowls? Uh?
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: And he did it with two teams? Oh well, obviously,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Well he could have done it with three teams. That's true.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: That's a good job putting me in my place. Fred,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: You don't do that enough, is it? Leagaric Blunt? Nope,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: Charles Haley noe. But you're close with one of the teams. No,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: Ken Norton Junior ninety two and ninety three with Dallas
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: in ninety four with San Francisco. There's a lot of
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: cross pollination with those two teams. That was. What is
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: the only team that hasn't won eleven or more games
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: in the last thirty years? Jets? Oh No, they did
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: eleven or more games in the last thirty years. Detroit Washington.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: They won fourteen games in ninety one and haven't won
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: eleven games or more since. Commanders two more. Only one
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: oh and four team has ever made the playoffs. Which
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: team did it? Chargers, Yes, in ninety two and Finally,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: what team has the least playoff wins since the nineteen
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: seventy merger has only won one playoff game? Detroit? Detroit
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: is correct? And do you for the bonus? Do you
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: know when they won that game? Ninety one or two?
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Any one is correct against Dallas? Good? Paul, all right,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: he knows his Detroit Lions trivia. That's from Hardy. Oh yeah,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: we die, We die with Hardy every week. Yeah, all right,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: So special teams practice is over since we can go
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: away from the trivia, right, and so was the trivia.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: Offense and defense are both back on the field. Looks
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: like seven and seven to start. Bill is in the
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: backfield of the offense to start, which was the judge
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: Parker a galore with Trey Nixon inside? And is that
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Jonah and Jonah bloods on Johanna? Oh that's a rocket
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: yeah behind him behind it on his ear? Good? Yeah? Yeah?
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: So what do we give me some defense here? Sure
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: you got uh Dougger, mccordy and bloods Our cornerbacks are
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: Jalen Mills and Terrence what is it? Terrence Mitchell? Mitchell
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: j Jones in the middle and uh yeah McMillan as
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: the as the soul inside linebacker of the coverage. A
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: little bit different ass in there. Sorry about that. There's
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: no cough button with these train Nixon back out too.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: We have new microphones. I know they're excellent though. Yeah,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: very fancy. Matt Morrel, no cost spirit toing downfield Parker
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: contest test to catch against Mills up the right sideline,
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: and that's what I think. Are you looking for for Parker?
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: That's what he does. And he's hurt Nor Josh Kiddingding
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: that was for Paul he was down. Uh. Yeah, they're
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: kind of sticking with this group. I have noticed Joshua
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: bloodso has uh you know, you talk about guys that
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: are that that's kind of sniff. That surprised me a
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: little bit. That's that has surprised me. I wonder if
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: it's got to do with the state of health of
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: some of the guys, like a Peppers as as an example. Yeah,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: but he has been out there a little bit now,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: Phillips out there, Jesus Harry ran right by Mills there.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: I don't like to see that little dump off up.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Just wonder about the effort here, you know, like, well, yeah,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: you're right, Fred, because the defense is really at it.
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: I mean seven on seven in full pads, the defense
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: has had a disadvantage. But when you can't hit right,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: like at least when they're in full pads in training camp,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: they can try to give a semblance of a press
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: at the line. These guys are getting run right by
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: off the line yet so he gets a Malcolm Butler,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Jack Jones getting a chance now at corner. See Howyer
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: has jumped over Zappie in the depth chart over. Well,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: he's a coach. I think he should to send those
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: funky little hats. You know, he should have shot the helmet,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: just wear his little hat out. He should shoe it
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: his shoe. I like that. You like that? No, it's
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: Richard since like the nineteen twenties newsman. Yeah, sure, Sam
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: like Adam on the run. So would you say Jack
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Jones and Malcolm Butler and Myles Bryant. Yeah, rotating guys
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: in and uh yeah, I mean it definitely had Mack Wilson, Yes,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: so yeah again mack Wilson, Ray Kwa, McMillan definitely in
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: the mix. Adrian Phillips, Bilkerson, Oh not good, drop by
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: I felt my guy that looks really comfortable Harris, it's
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: very comfortable dropping the ball. Didn't look comfortable on that one.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: I didn't see. It doesn't count. Yeah, Alex has some
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: criticism for Duce. He's in stowed in um stowed in Fred.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Have you given any thought to the future and how
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: to spice up the show? I see you replace Scalovino
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: with a feminine female side of thought with Tamarrow, which
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: should work. But unfortunately Deuce doesn't have that inner andy
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: where he gets angry during arguments. It seems like Deuce
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: gets more upset than angry. It's more of an exasperation
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: when people call him out. Would love if he had
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: some passion and bristled back at you guys and callers
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: with some genuine anger. Jack Jones had to work on that.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Jack Jones is very aggressive. Yeah, can I just say that? Okay?
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: He just tackled Christian Wilkerson on a short drag across Earlier.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: He had a nice pass break up on Tie Montgomery
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: where he showed some aggressiveness, kind of the Malcolm Butler
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: thing we talked about earlier. He's just like, he's kind
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: of around a lot. He's active. Jalen Mills playing back
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: in this second group here. Have you noticed that they
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: move them over now he's at safety. It's just they're
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: moving guys around. That's probably the stuff we're supposed to
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: stay away from, Fred. But I mean, I feel like
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: each time you say something, though, it adds another like
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: random layer to it. If you know. It's just everybody's
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: kind of playing everywhere. It is well, and it is,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: and that's why I'm trying to downplay and that's why
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: i made a joke out of it. Yeah, this is
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: not like Fred, I think you made about ten minutes
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: ago the comment about you know, you don't know how
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: intense this is, how you know how how much full
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: speed it is. I think this is almost entirely about
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: installation and comfort, comfort level. Yeah yeah, but there's been
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: plenty of there's things to people that have speculated that
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: that mills could maybe be a long term replacement and
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: free safety or for DMC, because you know what, we
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: don't have safeties. I felt, right, we do. We got
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: a lot of them. Yea. And who we got alright,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: Agalore Mac Time Montgomery, who's eleven eleven? Is Parker? Well
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: that's Parker. Okay. I feel like my mic is going
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: in and all I kind of don't feel like that
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: ball was intended for him. That was not really You see,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Time Montgomery's got his hands out like as if to say,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: what will happen? I was mine? But JJ Taylor ended
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: up catching it and coming up with a big play.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: But there were two guys very similarly situated in that route,
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: in Montgomery and Taylor. Judging on the body language of Montgomery,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: I think Montgomery made a mistake. I don't think he
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: was supposed to be. Patricia was talking to him and
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Joe Judge was talking to the other guy, so they
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: both told him they got up. You see, this is
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: what's going to happen. You can't you can't analyze because
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: he takes his ball and goes home. Just like the email,
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: Will just said, let me ask you a question. Who
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: will have more production Brandon Bolden last year or Time
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Montgomery this year? Brandon Bolden, Okay, that's a good question.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: I think that you know, again goes back to how
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: does it all shake out? Mac? Oh, beautiful past, beautiful,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: beautiful pass. That's what we need. John Us Smith John Smith.
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: John Smith was double covered h heading towards the sideline
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: and Mac threw it over both defenders right to the
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: outside where only Smith could come up with it, and
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: Smith came up with it. Uh, just just really nice
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: and both ends there. Yeah, not exactly one of those
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: seam throws that that was out by the outside, kind
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: of in the zip code. That's why I made mention
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: of the previous play to Taylor, which was down the scene.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: But I'm not sure that was all executed properly. I
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: was a little on the ball. I'll say that it
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: was a little bit like that play against the Brown's
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: last year to Hunter. All right, Zappy's in. I guess yes,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: just yes, Mike, I'm gonna I want to see ZAPPI
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: are you happy with and press with Zappy here? I
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: don't know false started left to take a Lappie. I
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: don't want to fall into any Trappie. But I like
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: Zappy on the mark over the middle. Yeah. Yeah, you'll
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: be hearing about that connection a lot this year. Zappy
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: to Thornton. I mean, if you're if you're looking for accuracy,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: you saw it right there, right, I mean it looked,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: it looked on time. I mean it was good in stride,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: it was good. It's a good throw. No, it was
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: a good throw. I just like, I'm laughing at how
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: excited you can't. I just you know, the bar is
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: with the rookies. You just don't want to see the no, no,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: yeah no, it's not like last year where Mac was
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: throw a ball and yeah I would catch it, and
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: you too would act like pulling the ball down on
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: seven and seven in shorts. You know that's not good. Yeah,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: you're not looking for that now. But if the coverage
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: is there, The coverage is there, if it's in time,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: and he seems like he's going through it, yeah, you know,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: no one where to go with it? One too, man,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: We'll check down and love it. He does have a
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: better rom than Mac. You're right, I'm dead serious. I
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: think he throws a good ball. He does, but he's
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: too small, Yeah, thick from the waist end. Yeah, he's
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: a well no, but you want me to give you
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: a minute, TI. He doesn't have that quarterback lower half
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: you know, right, it looks like, you know, could be
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: a wrestler or something. Yeah, rassle, all right, what's Bill doing?
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: All right? So now we're moving on here with the
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: offense right now. Yeah, we got everybody. It seems like
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: this is uh building to a crescendo, perhaps talking to
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: Troy Brown, who is still jacked as hell. I know, well, yeah,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: he just beat the crap out of Deuce. Yeah. We
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: had a tough loss this weekend, the Troy Brown's team.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, fittingly, we gave up to kickoff return touchdown,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: so I you know, if you're gonna lose to Troy Brown,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: special teams played a big role. But uh, he was
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: complimentary my son Campbell's quarterback play. So that was all.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: That was all we needed to hear in a minute. Now,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: you didn't tell me all about this. Yeah, so this
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: is flag football. Ye, Troy Brown's son. Your son was
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: the opposing quarterback. So the funny part is, so you know, Troy,
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: we beaaten his team a couple of times. He hasn't.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: I think he's been there maybe once, but he was
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: diagram in plays up and you know, I just let
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: Campbell run it. I'm like yeah, yeah, So it was.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: It was a good game. The only time. The only
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: reason we kind of stuck arect because Comble was hitting
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: some deep passes with his h with his own so
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: that that caught Troy's notice. But he was great. He
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: talked to all the family afterwards signed a bunch of Yeah,
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Mike is going in and out. Yeah, just check your
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: connection there. Sure, Yeah, it's been kind of happening a
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, So it was a good day. It
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: was a good day, even though even though we lost,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: they ended up taking the championship game after he was
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: given out, although his son took a little bit of
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: a collided on a play and went down for a
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: little bit. I think he was okay though, concussion. We're
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: a little worried about it for a second, a little
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: worry about it. Yeah, all right, actual eleven on eleven
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: coming back toward us here, Mac taking the shotgun snap.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Trey nixons right now. We always talk about, you know,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: guys that you know who jumps in when there's someone missing.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: Now there's no born today, and Nixon's gotten a lot
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: of a lot of work, so you're looking for things
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: that you can take away, fred Yep. Trey Nixon, Ye,
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: you know, got a lot of work. And you know,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: I haven't seen him do anything that I think would
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: lead the coaches to say he wasn't ready for that,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: you know, added opportunity. Yep, he's been he's been active,
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: he's been involved and he's caught the ball when it's
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: thrown his way. And and you mentioned Blitzo on the
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: other side, yep, deuce yep. Although this is a lot
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: of a lot of secondary players now, but on defense, yeah,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: there's definitely some confusion. On offense. This is the second
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: time in three plays that it looks like they did
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: not come out in the right formation. But they got
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: it straightened out. They got the pass off and another
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: catch for Trey Nixon outside the number. So you're saying
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: these would be Kendrick Borne. I am not telling you
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: that my life would depend on it. But Kendrick Bourne's
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: not here, and suddenly Trey Nixon's out there with DeVante Parker,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: and you know, guys like that, you know, opportunity knocks,
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: Opportunity knocks. I mean, it is one of the things
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: I take from this is just like I said, you
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: can tell the guys that are in the mix getting
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: a look with the starters and guys who are just
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: kind of learning, you know, like right now there's a
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: whole offensive line conversation going and off gone off to
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: the side, and a defensive line. I mean, those guys
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: are working on something totally different right now. Now, interestingly,
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: Patricia is talking into some type of walkie talkie. So
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: I don't know if that is actually into you know,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Mac Jones's helmet, but he's talking into a walkie small
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: walkie talkie in his hand. Joe Judge is not. I
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: think that's a good observation, friend, Joe Judge is not.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: So yeah, they're standing together behind Mac right now, kind
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: of overseeing it. There's another one that that could have
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: been ugly with pads on. So Paul, if you if
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: you know, it's like, okay, So Matricia's walking along and
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: in his right hand, he's got a little black walkie talking.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: I can see something in his hand. Yeah. So now
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: he's looking down and now he's talking into it. Yeah.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: I mean it could be as simple as he's relaying place. Yeah.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: And so if he is in fact going to be
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: the play caller. I like what they're doing because it
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: gets Mac or all the quarterbacks used to hearing Patricia's
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: voice in their helmet, and why not start doing that now?
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: So all right, yeah, it does it does? It does?
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: Sure look like it. And this was Hoyer. You could
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: see Patricia talking to it, and then you sell Hoyer
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: kind of relay the call. Everybody breaks the huddle. I
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: buy it. It looked like that. It's exactly now. Now
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: the thing is tomorrow and Thursday we'll be out here.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: We won't have a show tomorrow, but we will on Thursday,
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: same as today. Let's see what he does tomorrow. Let's
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: let's see if this is consistent. Right, right, that's three
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: days we need. A small walkie talkie could fit in
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: the palm of a hand, not be seen now. It
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: could be a chocolate Eclaire too. I'm not you know,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: you see, I'm not gonna lie those those kinds of
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: smart ass comments were coming to my mind, but I
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: left him out. You can't do it. There we go
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: just four to me, a lot of walkie talkies and
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: Stranger Things too, So I'm I'm very on brand. This
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: week I saw the first two episodes. I'll say the
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: fourth episode of this season was one of the best
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: episodes of Stranger Things that really I've ever seen. How many?
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: I know, ya Majie is back there saying six, but
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: they released seven, and then I think there's a few
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: more coming in first month, but uh, will will cut
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: the rest of the season. And he came out he
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: was gushing with TJ because TJ had already seen it.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: He goes, now, I know what you're talking about. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: it's uh and I like the last two seasons, but
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: this one's just intense. It's different. Who's fifty two on offense?
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: No defense? Defense? Is? Uh? That's that's Marcus Jones. Huh
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: is there a big fifty two out there? Oh wait,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: that looks like Harvey LONGI yeah, that's not yeah LONGI
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: that's Long. Yeah yeah. Okay. So now mac Jones is
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: right next to Patricia. They're going over some things. Long
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: he just knocked down a pass, but he was much
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: too big to be Yacus Jones. Plus, the last time
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: I saw Marcus Jones he had a red shirt on.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Seeing this speaks to why it's annoying, like trying to
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: keep track of I mean, do you have like multiple
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: guys with the same shirt on it? Like it's just
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it's meant to confuse us
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: more than anything else. Oh, you're probably right paranoid and
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: really James James James White, we haven't seen him do
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: anything right, I mean just the drills at the beginning
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: of practice him. That to me seems like a pup. Yeah,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: Harris back there now, Yeah, I would say Fred's probably
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: right pup to start camp, all right, Mac back to pass,
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: Oh tough pass. But Harris came up with it, had
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: to turn his body around. Yeah that was that. That
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: that live noise you heard was Deuced saying, yeah, that
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: was that was Harris up to seem with mcgron on him,
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: and uh, it seemed like a little bit underthrown by Max.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: So here's the thing with Mac that's his that if
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: he had a weakness in a one area of the field,
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: you would say it was down the middle, wouldn't you. Yeah, up,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: it seems for sure, which is uh, you know, it's
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: unfortunate because you feel like you should be able to
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: do some things with John H. Smith and Hunter Henry
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: up up the seams and you know, stretched the field
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: a little bit, and you know he had trouble locating
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: the defense when he went up the scene. A lot
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: of balls that were you know, almost intercepted and guys
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: reading it and getting hands on it. So that's and
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: mentally he's probably overthinking that. And it looked apparent on
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: that pass where he just didn't put enough on it
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: and he put it behind Harris, So I'd be working
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: on that this soft season if I was him and
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: he has to pull it down first time. I mean,
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: that was tremendous pass protection too. Nothing, no one was
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: it was, it was it. I mean they don't have
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: pats on. I missed the snark on that one. No,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: the coverage obviously was good because he had to. Yeah,
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: he had plenty of time to find somebody and he
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: had to. You know, it's just another example everybody wants
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: to pump up Cameron mcgron is, like, you know, he's
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: out here now with kind of the B level book groups.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: You know, he's got a ways to go, singletary if
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: you think he's gonna be now whatever happened on that
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: last play, Jones and Patricia were laughing about it, so
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: I thought you said run, oh okay, he said, Hans
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: he forgot over. He didn't say over more. Let's walk
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: you talking wow at bad check with me, Stephen sending
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: the back. I'll see, I'll see. I wonder there's a
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: lot of passes that guys are catching as they're spinning around,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: and a lot of times that's by design. So I
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: don't want to say that he's up, yes, like he's
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: not leading him into contact. So I don't know if
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: that is a past that's behind him, or if that's
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: a past design to keep him out of harm's way.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: But I have noticed that. You know, we talked about
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the one with Harris Stephen, you know behind mcgrown own. Yeah,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: you know, it might be anticipating a safety coming over
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: the top there and you're trying to you know, protect
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: your your receiver. Probably winding down here. I'm gonna head
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna head down a little early to go get
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: some of these interviews that will be going on immediately
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: following practice. Who's sixty four blue? Sixty four Blue? Uh, yeah,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: DeMarcus Mitchell. He's he's an undrafted rookie. Interesting combination and
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: he's got the short short game pants cut off and
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: knees socks. He looks uh, he really stands out there
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: for his uh clothing selection. Yeah. I mean, you know
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: we talk about they didn't draft any edge guys. I mean,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: he's he's somebody that maybe maybe could find himself, you
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: don't on the practice squad, just the least to provide
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: some depth. Maybe I think there's an opportunity maybe for
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: him oh, and now we seem like we're getting white
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: on one sideline and blue on the other sideline. So
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: I wish wait for the telltale base to come in
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: and they start playing the music, and then you know,
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: all right, now we're actually gonna do something. So now
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: it's situational. Now it's like, okay, first and ten, Now
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: they're gonna actually, you know, do the real in game
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: type of stuff, substitutions the whole thing. But yeah, Trey
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: Nixon and this uh up with this top group right now.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: But it's a lot of mixing and matching Harris in
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: the backfield. Yeah, and Mac has to pull it down
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: again speed wow, look at the speed as lamar as
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Dietrich wise runs them down on the flatfay long legs. Uh.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: And just in full disclosure, I do not want Mac
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: Jones trying to like burst to the sideline in mini camp.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: That's fine with me right there. What just happened. Wouldn't
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: you prefer to getting a nagging like hamstring injury. He
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: needs to learn to throw the football down and discussed.
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: So then I all think it wasn't you know, it
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: was all they messed up. They messed up, wasn't they
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: don't do it right. Come on, it's unbelievable. You see
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: him in this underwear yesterday, the guy who brought Brady,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: the guy who brought you so much joy you do
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: nothing but have disdain for You're thinking about that kiss again, Fred.
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: I just wonder if it's real, right or a prosthetic?
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: Was it was something inflated? Maybe? Um, I don't know,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: maybe like Jake steele h a little confusion. I have
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: noticed that a little bit offensively, whether they're coming out.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: You know, you see a receiver maybe start out to
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: the right and then immediately, like you know, circle back
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: and get to the left. You got yourself a John
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: w lap going on right now. So that might have
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: been that might have been one of the problems. Yep,
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: Patricia talking into that wakie talkie so that he is
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: calling the plays. Belichick in the backfield of the offense.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: Fred Kersh is reporting or I'm a violent switch on
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: the defensive line. Normally reserve for first and goal from
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: the inside. The one does not work. However, Mac under
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: center handoff Harris and he couldn't gone. He's gone. He
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: would have been tackled for two yards. Uh yeah, come on,
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: can we throw the ball a little bit here, we'll
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: wrap it up. Any of these run plays, call it
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: a day. Yeah, I'm about ready anyway, setting up there. Yeah,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: I think i'm gonna I'm gonna head after this play. Yeah,
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: why didn't you take off, Paul and I'll finish it.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: We'll go until they do field goals. If they do
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: those today, they have a kicker out there they do,
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: My guess is they they've done those in another field.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: Oh okay, but you just ruined my my little buzz here.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I was thinking, there's almost time to eat. I will
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: there be today given? I hope. So I need some
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: Papa ginos. Oh Max sack and on that note, Matthew
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: jude On would be sack in Christian ball defense celebrating Wow,
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: yeah much. This was the case last year at this time.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: It's really unfair for the offensive mine to try to
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: create some time for the quarterback to throw. Well, there
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: should be at least three Mississippi. Don't you think they
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: should do something? Because I do think plays break down
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: quicker than normal when there's no pads on. Patriots quickly
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: out of the huddle with Brian Hoyer. He is a coach,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: after all, hands to Stevenson and he gone. He insists,
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: I'm wearing that little hood under his jersey. I don't
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: care for that. Doesn't care for it all right, So
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: Deuce has gone down. They have just so let the
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: listeners know. They have three backdrops set set up down
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: in the far end zone and that's where some players
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: will be made available today. I know josh Ucha is
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: one of them that is expected to be made available.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: Uh give you Damian Harris, Kyle Dugger, Michael when you,
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: Ronnie Perkins, Romandre Stevenson, and josh Uch some of the
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: players that are anticipated to speak. Okay, so we'll have
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: that for you on Patriots dot Com later today. Turn
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: those around. Oh boy, are too high. I'm gonna get
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: somebody hurt. Would that that pass? It's about a twenty
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: twenty five yard pass that Hoyer just kind of rocketed
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: over whoever the receiver was. I couldn't make that out,
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: but not an accurate ball. The warrior still in there,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Savante Parker out there with Aghalore. Not the starting offensive
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: line out there, I can tell you that much. Yeah,
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: this is I think is the two. I think this
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: is the two offensive Stevenson in the backfield Jessa Durant
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: will Sherman nice played by Jalen Mills. Yeah, although I
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: don't think the ball got there in time, but yep,
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Jaylen Mills got a hand in there and knocked it away.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: Was that Smith? That was the intended receipt? Oh, Harry,
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: Oh all right? Mac Jones now back in the huddle,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: not getting zappy skipping over zappy here. I don't like it. Yeah.
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: The the I would say the defensive backs as a
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: in general have been pretty scrappy and competitive. Yeah. Um,
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: they've given up some plays, but they've made some too, Um,
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: like the one you just mentioned with Uh with Mills,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: it's been I think it's been pretty competitive. There's Smith,
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: mat it was. By the way, he has a last
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: sleeve on his right calf, yeah, i'd say, which is
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: uh notable because he hasn't had anything on, yeah, in
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: the times that we've been out here. Yeah. I remember
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: he did have the knee injury last year, right, and
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: he had a brace on every day and he hasn't
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: had a brace on. But this is a lower calf. Now.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: I don't know if that's just like he has it down,
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: or if it's just a sleeve on the calf. Yeah right,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: it could be just he pulled it down. Who knows,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: but it looks like it's just on his calf. Yeah.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: How long are we going here? Fred? Jeez? Yeah, Oh
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: that's a bad throat. Well that's a bad something, you know.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: Like I said, I hesitate to say bad throw. Now,
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: judging by max body language, I'm going to say it
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: was a bad Aglo was wide open, right, and the
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: throw was it fifteen? Who's fifteen? Okay? Yeah, I couldn't
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: tell if it was nineteen or fifteen. He's wide open
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: and the past was loaded the outside ball four. Yeah.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: Now Max seemed to be pretty upset with himself, so
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: I think he probably, yeah, misfired a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: he pulled that. See what they do in this play?
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: J J Taylor in the backfields that forty two? Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: Well he pulls it down again and runs and look
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: at the look at the improvisational skills, ends up hitting
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: JJ Taylor. But that was not the intended play or receiver.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: But he did, you know, he pumped, faked, pulled it
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: down and quickly found an outlet. It wasn't you know, Yeah,
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: it wasn't a terrible play, all right, now we get
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: to see some Zappi. Yeah. I hope he doesn't screw
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: up and have to take a lappy good Jack Jackie
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: for Zappi. Yeah, all pumped in Jack, don't play crappy,
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: my boy. All right, I'm just center Harris in the
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: backfield the rook snop. That's a run play. Do that
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: on your own time, I agree, Fred right, hey SRP,
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: all right, another stupid running player. You're gonna have Zappi
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: out there. You gotta throw the ball here Zappi. Yeah, oh,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: let's see. Yeah, this is an extended practice. Media has
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: moved over to the pods to get in position for
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: or some of the media, I should say, not all.
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: Probably camera guys are over getting in position. Is that
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: be gonna throw here? Bang shoots one to Christian Wilkerson underneath. Yeah,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: I mean I would agree with Mike's assessment overall. Like,
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: the only thing I would say is, I really haven't
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: seen quarterbacks not look to have the ability to do
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: this right, you know in my time. You know, if
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: you can't do that, you gotta go like and I'm
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: not even talking about from a physical I'm talking about
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: the mental. Like you know, you look like you have
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: an idea of what the offense is supposed to be.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: You're calling the plays, you're getting out of the huddle,
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: you're getting into whatever you're supposed to do. I don't
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: really recall too many times where I looked I said,
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: this guy just doesn't know what he's doing, right, you know? Yep,
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: zappy again this time and shotgun. It's going large to
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: Harry off the mark a little bit too far to
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: the outside. Yeah, no chance for Harry. But see if
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: that's Parker, I think he has a chance. Yeah, because
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: I think Parker makes a play on the ball and
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: Harry doesn't. Yeah, but it wasn't a good pass wiping
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: off some of the pollen I know was that Mills
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: and coverage? Oh god, I have no idea. Well, thanks right.
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: Not the best play by play guy in the business
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: for not them mac back and at quarterback. This practice
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: seemingly won't end. Yep. I think Bill might have indicated
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: three more plays, but I'm not sure. But I think
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: we did learn something here with the Patricia Waukie talkie thing.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: Lends a little credence to Jeff Howe's report that Patricia
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: will be calling the plays at least today he did.
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: We'll see what happens tomorrow will be I think the
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: Waukeie talkie thing is definitely a takeaway. Be curious to
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: see how many of the media people saw it. Minicamp
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: continues tomorrow. We'll be out here, not with a show,
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: but Paul and Mike Tomorrow will be out here and
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: Paul will have his blobservations tomorrow after practice and then Thursday.
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: Oh nice catch by Agawa. Oh when he dropped it,
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: I got a fumble. Yeah, I do too, A little
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: aggressive out there, That's what I said. I think it's
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: been pretty competitive, especially here like the last like half
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: hour or so. I think is ramped up a little
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: bit Thursday, and I like it. I like it Fred. Thursday,
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: we'll be back out here at eleven forty five with
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: video just like we did it today. So on Thursday
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: we'll do the same thing we did today. Tomorrow is
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: just a straight mini camp practice. We'll have reports from
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: the practice, and that's the horn which signifies the end
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: of that eleven and eleven session, don't Yeah, So now
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: they're pretty much going over to the hills to condition,
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: all right. So that's gonna be it for this edition
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: of Patriots Unfiltered live from Minicamp. Remember tomorrow checkout patriots
