- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, a controversial
- 0:14Speaker 1: Aussie fashion brand has been accused of painting over an
- 0:17Speaker 1: Australian artist's work. The influx of influencer baby news and
- 0:21Speaker 1: our Friday debrief. But first, as we predicted, Indie Clinton
- 0:26Speaker 1: doesn't have an office job. It was all an elaborate
- 0:29Speaker 1: publicity stunt to announce her as the ambassador of a
- 0:32Speaker 1: new hair care brand Kate, a lot of people tweaked
- 0:35Speaker 1: it was a marketing tactic, but it seems to have
- 0:37Speaker 1: done the trick for them. Yeah, it really did generate
- 0:39Speaker 1: a buzz for the hair care brand. It got a
- 0:41Speaker 1: lot of people talking, including us. So hats off to
- 0:43Speaker 1: the marketing team. We have spoken about it on the
- 0:46Speaker 1: podcast several times before, but as a refresher for those
- 0:49Speaker 1: who may have missed it, about a month ago, a
- 0:52Speaker 1: video of Indy Clinton working in an office job went viral.
- 0:55Speaker 1: That video was supposedly captured by a co-worker and shared
- 0:59Speaker 1: to TikTok anonymously. And while a lot of people took
- 1:02Speaker 1: the bait and thought Indy genuinely had a career change,
- 1:06Speaker 1: a lot of people were skeptical it was a PR stunt.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And on Monday, Indy revealed it was in fact a
- 1:11Speaker 1: marketing tactic to promote a new hair care company called Boof.
- 1:15Speaker 1: As we guessed last week, the company has been launched
- 1:18Speaker 1: by TBH skincare owner Rachel Wild. But there has been
- 1:22Speaker 1: a bit of confusion about what exactly Indy's role in
- 1:25Speaker 1: the brand is because A lot of people wondered if
- 1:27Speaker 1: she maybe had bought into the company due to this
- 1:30Speaker 1: whole stunt around her being a worker there. Particularly also
- 1:33Speaker 1: because of the language she used in one of her
- 1:35Speaker 1: TikTok videos because she shared her using the product for
- 1:39Speaker 1: a couple of months and said, if this is really good,
- 1:41Speaker 1: we're going to launch it. So she obviously feels very
- 1:44Speaker 1: much a part of the team. But in a media
- 1:46Speaker 1: release that we received from the brand, they said she
- 1:49Speaker 1: is just an ambassador. That is the messaging that has
- 1:51Speaker 1: gone out on social media as well. I wouldn't be
- 1:54Speaker 1: surprised if maybe she had a bit of a stake
- 1:56Speaker 1: in the company. Now, I have to talk about the
- 1:58Speaker 1: fact that on Friday morning after our segment on Indy
- 2:02Speaker 1: Clinton and bouff hair aired, I got a LinkedIn request
- 2:06Speaker 1: from Indy. So did you. So did Amy. I laughed
- 2:09Speaker 1: so much and thought, what a sense of humor. I
- 2:11Speaker 1: had a laugh because her job was listed as social
- 2:13Speaker 1: and growth specialist. Now, the product that they have launched
- 2:17Speaker 1: is a hair growth serum. So it seems like they
- 2:18Speaker 1: were having a bit of fun with that one. Yeah. Now,
- 2:20Speaker 1: there has been a lot of praise for this marketing stunt,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but what seems to have confused a lot of people
- 2:25Speaker 1: is the promotional video that they released this week featuring
- 2:29Speaker 1: Indie Clinton. As you touched on, Kate, they are selling
- 2:32Speaker 1: a new hair growth serum, which is being targeted at
- 2:34Speaker 1: postpartum women. So with Indie being such a prolific mummy blogger,
- 2:39Speaker 1: it makes sense for her to be the face of
- 2:40Speaker 1: this campaign because she has spoken about her postpartum hair
- 2:43Speaker 1: loss before. However, in the video, it didn't make sense
- 2:47Speaker 1: because she was wearing all of these elaborate wigs and
- 2:50Speaker 1: hair extensions. Yeah, for those who haven't seen the video,
- 2:53Speaker 1: she's dressed up in a range of retro outfits and
- 2:55Speaker 1: she's performing a lot of household tasks. So she's dancing
- 2:58Speaker 1: in the kitchen. She's also doing a workout. But yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 1: as you said, she's wearing these ridiculously long wigs. And
- 3:05Speaker 1: one follower wrote, don't get me wrong, this is cool,
- 3:07Speaker 1: but also I'm not drawn to buying hair care when
- 3:09Speaker 1: the model has fake hair slash extensions. It's just hard
- 3:12Speaker 1: to see how a product can be effective when we
- 3:15Speaker 1: aren't shown the real results. Someone also wrote to Indie
- 3:18Speaker 1: on TikTok, your hair looks fantastic, but whoever's idea it
- 3:22Speaker 1: was to wear wigs for hair growth promotion should rethink
- 3:25Speaker 1: that idea. Now, Indie replied saying it's a hair campaign
- 3:28Speaker 1: inspired by the 60s. It's meant to be big and
- 3:30Speaker 1: goofy like the results you get from the product. It's
- 3:33Speaker 1: tongue in cheek and fun. Emphasis on a fun campaign
- 3:36Speaker 1: brought to life. Do you think that their decision to
- 3:39Speaker 1: incorporate wigs into this campaign is going to affect whether
- 3:42Speaker 1: people buy this product or not? Do you think people
- 3:44Speaker 1: won't believe in the product because of it? Well, Indie
- 3:47Speaker 1: actually went on to share her results on her TikTok
- 3:50Speaker 1: and she shared that she's been using the product since January.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And this actually further disillusioned people because people were like,
- 3:57Speaker 1: hang on, you've gone back to your natural hair color.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You used to be blonde. Your baby isn't even that
- 4:02Speaker 1: young anymore. So your hair's probably just grown back. So
- 4:06Speaker 1: it didn't seem like anyone was happy with anything this
- 4:09Speaker 1: brand was putting out. Anyone who has thin hair knows
- 4:12Speaker 1: that it takes a lot longer than a year to
- 4:14Speaker 1: get your hair back into some sort of condition, to
- 4:16Speaker 1: be fair to Indy. Well, my son Jack is nearly
- 4:19Speaker 1: one years old and my hair is looking so bad.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Like it started to regrow back. If anything, a couple
- 4:25Speaker 1: of months after you give birth, your hair is actually
- 4:27Speaker 1: looking pretty good. It takes a little while for that
- 4:29Speaker 1: hair loss to actually happen.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I mean, at the end of the day, I actually
- 4:33Speaker 1: don't think that that's going to impact the sales anyway,
- 4:35Speaker 1: because it's had so much traction, so much engagement. So
- 4:38Speaker 1: many people know about it now. So I think the
- 4:40Speaker 1: people that want to give it a try will give
- 4:43Speaker 1: it a try. I think with hair growth serums and
- 4:45Speaker 1: those types of products, people are always a little bit
- 4:48Speaker 1: dubious and they're happy to see if it works for them.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think it will depend on the price point as well.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Knowing TBH and how strong they are at marketing, particularly
- 4:55Speaker 1: on TikTok, they are going to be sending this product
- 4:59Speaker 1: to a lot of postpartum women and getting potentially micro
- 5:04Speaker 1: influences to do very, realistic before and afters, which is
- 5:09Speaker 1: really what drives people at the moment. I feel like
- 5:11Speaker 1: when you see everyday people testing out a product and
- 5:14Speaker 1: giving their real and honest opinion, that's what makes me
- 5:18Speaker 1: want to buy something.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Before we wrap things up, it was quite funny in
- 5:22Speaker 1: Indy's comment section, there were a lot of American fans
- 5:25Speaker 1: that were surprised by the brand's name. So someone says,
- 5:28Speaker 1: does Boof not mean the same thing in Australia as
- 5:30Speaker 1: it does in America? So Sophie, do you know what
- 5:33Speaker 1: Boof means in America? No, I have absolutely no idea.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So boof or boofing, spelt with a double O, is
- 5:39Speaker 1: a slang term for inserting drugs or alcohol into your
- 5:43Speaker 1: anus to produce a more immediate high. Oh, can you
- 5:47Speaker 1: imagine them in the TBH office realising this? Like, fuck,
- 5:50Speaker 1: first the wigs, now this drugs and the anus thing. Yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure the Australian term is for bouffant, which
- 5:56Speaker 1: is a style of hair in the 60s. I think
- 5:58Speaker 1: that's what they were going for. Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Morning. I know I'm wearing a very controversial top today,
- 6:04Speaker 2: but it's only to get your attention because I'm looking
- 6:08Speaker 2: for recommendations on something that I can buy in replace
- 6:12Speaker 2: of this sabi tee.
- 6:14Speaker 1: The owner of a controversial Australian fashion brand has been
- 6:17Speaker 1: accused of painting over Australian artist Tani Kaelin's work and
- 6:21Speaker 1: uploading the results to Instagram. The heartbroken artist believes the
- 6:25Speaker 1: brazen act was a form of retaliation after she recently
- 6:28Speaker 1: started selling oversized t-shirts with her artwork on it. The
- 6:32Speaker 1: fashion brand in question has carved out a name for
- 6:34Speaker 1: itself for marketing oversized tees with positive affirmations. So if
- 6:38Speaker 1: this story is erupting on TikTok, how did it all
- 6:41Speaker 1: come about? Well, it all kicked off when Tani made
- 6:43Speaker 1: the revelation during a Q & A on Instagram. Now,
- 6:46Speaker 1: she is a painter and a muralist based in her
- 6:49Speaker 1: hometown of Mandurah in WA. And she jumped on her
- 6:53Speaker 1: stories to explain that she was initially hesitant to open
- 6:56Speaker 1: up about the incident and spent weeks considering what to do. Now,
- 7:00Speaker 1: she finally decided that staying silent was not an option
- 7:04Speaker 1: and she was ready to speak out. So Tani alleges
- 7:07Speaker 1: that an Australian fashion brand purchased one of her paintings
- 7:10Speaker 1: last year for $ 3, 000. That piece in question was one
- 7:15Speaker 1: of her favorite originals called Get Out of Your Own Way.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I'm sure a lot of our listeners have seen this
- 7:20Speaker 1: painting popping up on TikTok this week. It's a really
- 7:24Speaker 1: cool piece. It has two mermaids each on the back
- 7:26Speaker 1: of a horse with cowboy hats on. It's an original piece.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And like a lot of Tani's work, there's a lot
- 7:32Speaker 1: of textures on the canvas. Now, Tani alleges that the
- 7:36Speaker 1: local fashion brand in question, who she chose not to name,
- 7:39Speaker 1: is painted over her artwork and posted them doing so online. Now, understandably,
- 7:45Speaker 1: she got very emotional over this and wrote, it's like
- 7:48Speaker 1: watching someone hurt someone you love and saying nothing. It's
- 7:51Speaker 1: painful to see any of my work erased, but especially
- 7:54Speaker 1: this one. It held a lot of meaning for me.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I wish they'd simply passed it on, not covered it up.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Artists are sensitive, emotional beings. When we create with meaning,
- 8:03Speaker 1: we're offering up a part of ourselves. It's vulnerable. It's honest.
- 8:07Speaker 1: It's real. I'm sharing this because artists deserve better. Our
- 8:11Speaker 1: work isn't disposable. It's a piece of our heart and soul.
- 8:14Speaker 1: And when it's treated that way, it hurts more than
- 8:16Speaker 1: people realize. It's just incomprehensible to me that someone would
- 8:20Speaker 1: paint over an artist's work. And what's even more unbelievable
- 8:24Speaker 1: is that they would brazenly share themselves doing it online.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It just seems like the ultimate act of disrespect and
- 8:30Speaker 1: almost like This individual was waving a flag in the
- 8:33Speaker 1: artist's face, wanting some form of reaction from them. Now,
- 8:36Speaker 1: despite Tani not naming the fashion brand, it wasn't long
- 8:39Speaker 1: before her followers started connecting the dots and realized that
- 8:43Speaker 1: she was talking about the controversial clothing brand Sabi. Now,
- 8:47Speaker 1: the brand is known for selling oversized t-shirts, ironically, with
- 8:51Speaker 1: positive affirmations across them. It is owned by husband and
- 8:54Speaker 1: wife team Jace McDonald and Ash Tardrew, who live in Queensland. Now,
- 8:59Speaker 1: those names may sound familiar to listeners as back in March,
- 9:02Speaker 1: we covered the internet bloodbath that broke out between Sabi
- 9:05Speaker 1: and author turned TikToker Kate Forster. So some of Kate's
- 9:09Speaker 1: followers had noticed a growing number of mummy influencers sharing
- 9:13Speaker 1: far right views wearing Sabi shirts. And this led Kate
- 9:17Speaker 1: to do some research into the brand. And she quickly
- 9:20Speaker 1: discovered that one of the owners, Jace, was following Donald
- 9:23Speaker 1: Trump on his personal account. The response was pretty mixed online.
- 9:27Speaker 1: There were some followers who started threatening to boycott Sabi,
- 9:31Speaker 1: whilst others sent an influx of hate towards Kate Forster.
- 9:34Speaker 1: In fact, her TikTok actually ended up getting mass reported,
- 9:38Speaker 1: which then triggered every single one of her videos to
- 9:41Speaker 1: be removed. So it impacted her greatly. In response, Sabi
- 9:45Speaker 1: put out a lengthy written statement, but didn't address the
- 9:47Speaker 1: elephant in the room. whether or not they politically support
- 9:51Speaker 1: or align with Donald Trump. They said they didn't want
- 9:53Speaker 1: to talk about political views because they're not political, but
- 9:56Speaker 1: went on to clarify that Jason followed Trump to keep
- 9:59Speaker 1: an eye on Congress. importation tariffs. Now, I want to
- 10:02Speaker 1: get into the reason why people are convinced that Tani
- 10:05Speaker 1: is talking about Sabi, and that is because a few
- 10:09Speaker 1: weeks prior, the owner, Ash, uploaded a video of her
- 10:13Speaker 1: painting a canvas. Now, the canvas in question was to
- 10:16Speaker 1: go over her bed, and in true Sabi style, had
- 10:19Speaker 1: a massive positive affirmation, which she painted across it. So
- 10:23Speaker 1: in the reel, you can see that Ash has painted
- 10:26Speaker 1: the background of this really large canvas, a mixture of yellows, oranges,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and pinks. She then added very messy writing across it,
- 10:34Speaker 1: which took up the entire canvas and read, Dear me,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you are not perfect, but you are enough. Don't believe
- 10:41Speaker 1: the lies you tell yourself. You have a magic inside
- 10:44Speaker 1: you that no one else on this planet has. And
- 10:46Speaker 1: just because you can't see it all the time doesn't
- 10:48Speaker 1: mean it isn't there. Take a breath, you are doing
- 10:51Speaker 1: the best you can and that is enough. Now the
- 10:54Speaker 1: comment section was flooded by customers admiring her work with
- 10:57Speaker 1: one going as far as saying they wish they could
- 10:59Speaker 1: commission a piece from her. Now I want to put
- 11:02Speaker 1: it out there for those of you who haven't seen
- 11:04Speaker 1: this canvas yet but after Ash was finished with it,
- 11:08Speaker 1: it literally looked like a dog's breakfast. I can't believe
- 11:10Speaker 1: that anyone was saying that they wanted this on their wall.
- 11:14Speaker 1: The background was so messy and sloppy. It was not
- 11:18Speaker 1: a work of art by any means. And whilst these
- 11:21Speaker 1: are allegations at this stage, I want to say if
- 11:24Speaker 1: Ash has painted over Tani's work with this absolute abomination,
- 11:28Speaker 1: it is the most disgusting and disrespectful thing I've seen
- 11:31Speaker 1: in such a long time. I mean, not only does
- 11:33Speaker 1: it look completely amateur, but the nerve to cover someone's
- 11:36Speaker 1: artwork that they've put their blood, sweat and tears into
- 11:39Speaker 1: with essentially a love letter to yourself about how wonderful
- 11:42Speaker 1: you are. It's beyond belief. It's just crazy, isn't it?
- 11:47Speaker 1: A lot of people have been rightly questioning though, how
- 11:50Speaker 1: can you tell the original artwork has been painted over?
- 11:53Speaker 1: Because in this video, she didn't start off with Tani's
- 11:56Speaker 1: work and show herself covering it. So a lot of
- 11:59Speaker 1: TikTokers have been doing God's work for us. As you
- 12:01Speaker 1: touched on earlier, Kate, Tani's style of painting uses a
- 12:04Speaker 1: lot of different textures and they are very evident in
- 12:08Speaker 1: the original artwork. So a number of TikTokers have zoomed in.
- 12:12Speaker 1: on both of the artworks to point out many of
- 12:15Speaker 1: the clear texture lines that are visible in both of
- 12:18Speaker 1: the pieces. And other TikTokers are also convinced that you
- 12:22Speaker 1: can see a faint outline of the horses and mermaids
- 12:25Speaker 1: in the background of Ash's print. The prints are also
- 12:28Speaker 1: the exact same size. So there are a few telltale
- 12:31Speaker 1: signs that this potentially is the same artwork. I think
- 12:34Speaker 1: it's important to point out that We don't know this
- 12:37Speaker 1: as fact. They are just allegations at this stage. Sabi
- 12:40Speaker 1: has since removed the reel of Ash's painting, but they
- 12:43Speaker 1: are yet to put out a statement or comment publicly
- 12:46Speaker 1: on the fallout. If Tani's claims are true, the burning
- 12:49Speaker 1: question is why? Why would you cover up and erase
- 12:53Speaker 1: an artist's work? Well, Tani thinks she knows the answer.
- 12:56Speaker 1: So in the same Q & A, she alleged that
- 12:59Speaker 1: one of Sabi's staff members accused her of copying Sabi's design.
- 13:04Speaker 1: So as well as selling original artworks, Tani has also
- 13:07Speaker 1: been selling oversized t-shirts for the past year, which have
- 13:11Speaker 1: her artwork on it. They're really cool. And she alleges
- 13:14Speaker 1: that the Sabi worker accused her of copying their iconic
- 13:18Speaker 1: flame design and using it on one of her t-shirts.
- 13:21Speaker 1: She wrote, I'm assuming that maybe that's what their issue is,
- 13:24Speaker 1: but that's only an assumption. I have no idea the
- 13:26Speaker 1: real reason, and I'm sure I'll never find out. It
- 13:30Speaker 1: does lead you to question if Ash did paint over
- 13:32Speaker 1: this artwork. Did she purposely do this as retribution? I mean,
- 13:37Speaker 1: the fact that she filmed it would suggest potentially she did. Yeah, well,
- 13:42Speaker 1: it seems like there has been a bit of competition
- 13:43Speaker 1: between these two t-shirt brands because a follower also wrote
- 13:47Speaker 1: to Tani, did you notice Sabi do drops two hours
- 13:49Speaker 1: before every drop you have? To which Tani replied, no,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I didn't notice this, but a few other people messaged
- 13:55Speaker 1: me last night telling me this. Not sure if it's true,
- 13:58Speaker 1: but if it is true, there's 8 billion people in
- 14:00Speaker 1: the world. I think there's room for everyone. This is
- 14:02Speaker 1: all so weird. Now, there has been a massive response
- 14:05Speaker 1: online to this unfolding story with the internet collectively turning
- 14:09Speaker 1: on Sabi and calling to cancel the Aussie brand. Many
- 14:13Speaker 1: women have shared TikToks about how they're now embarrassed to
- 14:15Speaker 1: wear their Sabi shirts in public, which is a shame
- 14:17Speaker 1: because they're quite expensive t-shirts. They're bloody ugly though. I
- 14:20Speaker 1: have to put it out there. Someone else shared this
- 14:23Speaker 1: sentiment online. Let's throw to what they said.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I made a TikTok probably a year ago about this
- 14:28Speaker 3: exact subject and I posted it for all of three
- 14:31Speaker 3: seconds and then I was like.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Because it was such an unpopular opinion at the time
- 14:36Speaker 3: because it was peak cult.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Peak cult. Peak fucking uniform.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Savvy shirts are fucking ugly. That's my opinion.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Okay?
- 14:44Speaker 3: And I wish I said something about it sooner because now...
- 14:47Speaker 3: Now it's like come to light that they're not fucking
- 14:50Speaker 3: great people. Savvy lovers are going to come after me
- 14:52Speaker 3: in the comments. That's fine. Your shirt's fucking ugly. I'd
- 14:55Speaker 3: be pretty disappointed if I spent fucking 80 bucks on
- 14:57Speaker 3: a shirt and it faded to the shit as well
- 14:59Speaker 3: and just turned into a fucking white Anko shirt.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I don't like to badmouth Australian brands, but in my
- 15:05Speaker 1: personal opinion, I would not wear a loud t-shirt like this,
- 15:07Speaker 1: particularly after all these allegations have come out. Another TikTok
- 15:11Speaker 1: user summed it up well, creating a video saying, what
- 15:13Speaker 1: are we all doing with our Sabi shirts after what
- 15:16Speaker 1: happened with Tani Keelan's work? And one user suggested in
- 15:19Speaker 1: the comment section that they should send all of them
- 15:21Speaker 1: to Tani to paint over. There has been a camp
- 15:24Speaker 1: of people who I'm guessing don't work in a creative
- 15:26Speaker 1: field who have said, well, what's the big deal? The
- 15:29Speaker 1: brand in question bought the artwork. They can essentially now
- 15:31Speaker 1: do whatever they want with it. However, that is actually
- 15:33Speaker 1: not true. Tani and her work are protected under Australia's
- 15:37Speaker 1: Copyright Act for moral rights. So Under Australian copyright law,
- 15:41Speaker 1: buying a physical artwork like a painting or sculpture does
- 15:45Speaker 1: not necessarily give you the legal right to deface, modify
- 15:49Speaker 1: or destroy it, particularly if the artist still holds moral rights.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So when you buy a piece of art, you own
- 15:55Speaker 1: the physical object, but copyright and moral rights often remain
- 15:59Speaker 1: with the artist unless they've been explicitly wavered or assigned.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So essentially under this moral right act, the artist still
- 16:07Speaker 1: has the right of integrity, which In this case, it
- 16:11Speaker 1: has not been kept. I mean, you can't just simply
- 16:13Speaker 1: do whatever you want with an artist's painting, particularly when
- 16:17Speaker 1: you are then going to post about it on social
- 16:19Speaker 1: media or display the new artwork in public. I never
- 16:22Speaker 1: really thought about it before, but it makes a lot
- 16:24Speaker 1: of sense because you think about all of the beautiful
- 16:27Speaker 1: historic artwork that hangs in galleries. I mean, I'd never
- 16:31Speaker 1: really considered that someone rich could buy it and destroy
- 16:34Speaker 1: it all, but I'm glad to hear that it's actually
- 16:36Speaker 1: protected by law. Well, this isn't Australian law, but I'm
- 16:38Speaker 1: sure other countries have something similar. I mean, people have
- 16:41Speaker 1: been pointing out, look, this wasn't a Kmart reprint of
- 16:44Speaker 1: a canvas that you can take home and essentially do
- 16:47Speaker 1: as you please. This is an Australian artist's original artwork
- 16:50Speaker 1: that has been destroyed. It's disgusting. I mean, just go
- 16:52Speaker 1: buy a blank canvas. Are you going to tell everyone
- 16:56Speaker 1: if you're having a baby brother or a baby sister?
- 16:58Speaker 1: He can't talk yet. No, he can't. So that's why
- 17:01Speaker 1: we have said it on the pod today. Now, Tuesday
- 17:06Speaker 1: was a very big day for influencer babies. Two Aussie
- 17:09Speaker 1: influencers announced they were pregnant while another gave birth. The
- 17:13Speaker 1: one that shocked me the most was Jade Tunchi. So
- 17:16Speaker 1: she announced on Tuesday that she's joining the Two Under
- 17:20Speaker 1: Two Club. So she shared a carousel of professional photos
- 17:24Speaker 1: from a family photo shoot and wrote, Locke, Fletcher and
- 17:27Speaker 1: I are overjoyed to share that our little family will
- 17:29Speaker 1: be growing this December. I immediately screenshot this as soon
- 17:34Speaker 1: as I saw it and sent it to you, Kate,
- 17:36Speaker 1: because I knew that you would have a big reaction
- 17:38Speaker 1: to this because you had your son, Jack, around a
- 17:41Speaker 1: very similar time to Jade had Fletcher. And I know
- 17:44Speaker 1: that you just couldn't wrap your head around the fact
- 17:46Speaker 1: that she's having another one so soon. Oh, I had
- 17:48Speaker 1: to do a double take because, hang on, this can't
- 17:50Speaker 1: be correct because, yeah, Fletcher is four days younger than Jack.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And I'm currently... Getting ready for Jack's birthday party and
- 17:57Speaker 1: the thought of being pregnant with a second one. I mean,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I send my love to Jade Tunchi. That would be
- 18:02Speaker 1: so difficult. She's had such a big transformation since becoming
- 18:06Speaker 1: a mom. I think before motherhood, people found her content
- 18:10Speaker 1: quite confusing because she was trying to be comedic about stuff,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but then she wasn't that relatable. So people didn't get it.
- 18:17Speaker 1: But now that she's a mom and she's been sharing
- 18:19Speaker 1: the reality of motherhood, people are like, I get you now. Yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: she's actually very funny. I mean, I was one of
- 18:24Speaker 1: those people that didn't really like her content and now
- 18:26Speaker 1: I really enjoy it. And she has been really vulnerable
- 18:30Speaker 1: in sharing everything that she's been going through. I mean,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I was glued to her Instagram story when she was
- 18:35Speaker 1: trying to get Fletcher to sleep in his own cot. Well,
- 18:38Speaker 1: because they're still struggling with his sleep at the moment,
- 18:40Speaker 1: which is why I'm like, oh my God, those poor
- 18:42Speaker 1: people adding a newborn baby into the mix as well. Well,
- 18:45Speaker 1: it's funny looking at TikTok and Instagram's reaction because on Instagram-
- 18:49Speaker 1: She shared these beautiful family photos and people were so
- 18:52Speaker 1: excited and sharing their love. However, she shared a different
- 18:55Speaker 1: announcement on TikTok. It was a video of her walking
- 18:57Speaker 1: along the beach and she turned around to show off
- 18:59Speaker 1: her baby bump. She's currently on this holiday at the
- 19:02Speaker 1: Great Barrier Reef and I think that's where she shot
- 19:03Speaker 1: the video. And people's reactions were so different on TikTok.
- 19:07Speaker 1: A lot of people were like, oh my God, what
- 19:10Speaker 1: are you doing? Someone wrote, congratulations. I have two under two.
- 19:14Speaker 1: It's beautiful, but please prepare yourself mentally. I have a
- 19:16Speaker 1: village of support and still cry weakly. People don't need this.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Another said two under two is rough. Good luck. Fortunately
- 19:24Speaker 1: for Jade, a lot of moms chimed in saying the
- 19:26Speaker 1: opposite and that they love the experience of having two
- 19:29Speaker 1: under two. I have to admit though, my TikTok algorithm
- 19:32Speaker 1: at the moment is people talking about how hellish two
- 19:35Speaker 1: under two are. Just in case Jade's listening. Oh, I
- 19:39Speaker 1: don't want to say it to her. I mean, I'm
- 19:40Speaker 1: sure it's a beautiful experience, but A lot of people
- 19:42Speaker 1: are saying one is an accessory and two is a lifestyle.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I just have no idea how our mom had three
- 19:49Speaker 1: at the same time. Like I just have so much respect. Well,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it's funny you say that because Jade's sister actually commented
- 19:56Speaker 1: saying three babies at Christmas. And a lot of people
- 19:59Speaker 1: didn't realize that Jade's sister is 38 weeks pregnant. So
- 20:01Speaker 1: she's talking about Jade's two and her one. But it
- 20:04Speaker 1: threw people saying, oh, my God, have you just announced
- 20:07Speaker 1: that Jade is having twins? In saying that, Jade has
- 20:10Speaker 1: revealed on her podcast that she is having another boy.
- 20:14Speaker 1: So she said that she and Locke were hoping maybe
- 20:16Speaker 1: it was a girl, but they're really happy to have
- 20:18Speaker 1: a brother for Fletcher. Now, Ella Ding also announced that
- 20:22Speaker 1: she was pregnant on Tuesday, but in a rather unorthodox way.
- 20:26Speaker 1: So the former maths contestant broke the news with a
- 20:29Speaker 1: sponsored post for Clear Blue. So the pregnancy test was
- 20:33Speaker 1: front and center in the photo that she shared of
- 20:35Speaker 1: her and her husband. And she wrote on Instagram, somewhere
- 20:38Speaker 1: between healing and hustling, the next chapter quietly chose us.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Baby Palermo, you've already made our story sweeter and given
- 20:46Speaker 1: us the best news of 2025 yet. She then finished
- 20:49Speaker 1: the caption with the hashtags ad and clear blue confirmed.
- 20:53Speaker 1: I love that she references hustling in this because this
- 20:55Speaker 1: is the ultimate hustle to have your pregnancy announcement sponsored.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I mean, what do you do? Do you know that
- 21:02Speaker 1: you're pregnant and then go around to brands saying, hey,
- 21:04Speaker 1: would you like to sponsor this post? I would be
- 21:07Speaker 1: fascinated to know how this all came about. Yeah, well,
- 21:10Speaker 1: her former best friend and maths alumni, Dom, was quick
- 21:13Speaker 1: to call out the sponsorship deal. So under a post
- 21:16Speaker 1: that Influencer Updates AU shared about the news, she wrote,
- 21:20Speaker 1: even has to monetize her pregnancy announcement. Some people will
- 21:23Speaker 1: never change. Wow. It's interesting to point out that Dom
- 21:27Speaker 1: is also pregnant at the moment. So she announced just
- 21:30Speaker 1: two months ago, that she was expecting a baby with
- 21:32Speaker 1: her partner, Jared. A couple of days after the announcement, though,
- 21:36Speaker 1: she revealed she'd broken up with Jared and would be
- 21:38Speaker 1: raising the baby as a single mum. I mean, things
- 21:41Speaker 1: have not been good between Dom and Ella ever since
- 21:43Speaker 1: they announced that they were pulling the pin on their podcast,
- 21:46Speaker 1: Sit With Us, back in August 2024. Maybe they'll get
- 21:48Speaker 1: the band back together to do a mothering podcast or something.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I could see that happening. No, that is definitely not happening.
- 21:54Speaker 1: They're not even on talking terms at the moment. Yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but motherhood seems to change people. Maybe they'll have this
- 21:58Speaker 1: epiphany and be like, we should– come together and forgive.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Maybe in the newborn phase, but not when they've got
- 22:04Speaker 1: pregnancy hormonal rage going on. That could make things worse.
- 22:07Speaker 1: That could make the feud even deeper.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Well, Dom actually spoke about this feud on her podcast
- 22:12Speaker 1: or her new podcast called Mad Woman recently. And at
- 22:15Speaker 1: the time, there was a lot of speculation that their
- 22:18Speaker 1: podcast ended because they had a falling out. She confirmed
- 22:20Speaker 1: that that was the case. No way. And it all
- 22:23Speaker 1: stemmed from the backlash they received after interviewing Math's 2024 villain,
- 22:26Speaker 1: Jack Dunkley. So at the time, if you recall, they
- 22:30Speaker 1: were slammed by Abby Chatfield for platforming him. And it
- 22:34Speaker 1: turns out that Dom and Ella had very differing opinions
- 22:37Speaker 1: on how to handle the situation, which led to the
- 22:39Speaker 1: friendship breakdown. Now on Tuesday, again, it seemed to be
- 22:42Speaker 1: a very special day. Christy Swadling gave birth to her
- 22:45Speaker 1: first son, Rocco. And she has been very open about
- 22:49Speaker 1: her fertility struggles. She shared her journey to conceive with
- 22:52Speaker 1: her followers, including undergoing IVF. So it was really lovely
- 22:56Speaker 1: to see her finally have her baby boy. So if
- 22:58Speaker 1: we usually dissect the baby name, all I could think
- 23:00Speaker 1: about was that ABC kids show, Rocco's Modern Life. I've
- 23:04Speaker 1: actually got the theme song stuck in my head at
- 23:05Speaker 1: the moment. What a blast from the past. I forgot
- 23:07Speaker 1: about that show. Look, I'm holding back on my comments
- 23:10Speaker 1: about baby names, seeing as mine's going to be coming
- 23:12Speaker 1: out in a few weeks. I don't want to be
- 23:14Speaker 1: too harsh to anyone there. Yeah. Well, Christy kept her
- 23:17Speaker 1: followers updated on her Instagram story throughout the day of
- 23:20Speaker 1: the birth. So she actually started experiencing contractions on the
- 23:24Speaker 1: Sunday and ended up being induced on Tuesday. And she
- 23:27Speaker 1: revealed if she didn't go into labor that night, she
- 23:29Speaker 1: would have had to have her waters broken the following day. Fortunately,
- 23:33Speaker 1: she gave birth that night and wrote on her Instagram story,
- 23:36Speaker 1: that escalated so quickly and I had a fully unmedicated birth.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I wasn't planning to laugh out loud. Birth story is
- 23:43Speaker 1: wild and keen to share. Now, as for Steph Claire Smith,
- 23:47Speaker 1: at the time of recording, we are still on Baby
- 23:49Speaker 1: Watch and On her TikTok, she was doing a little
- 23:52Speaker 1: sort of segment where each day she'd film a TikTok
- 23:55Speaker 1: where she was dancing until the baby was there. Boogieing. Boogieing, sorry.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But she abruptly stopped that because I think she realized, oh, fuck,
- 24:01Speaker 1: that means everyone will know when I go into labor.
- 24:04Speaker 1: So she did go quiet. on social media over the weekend,
- 24:08Speaker 1: which did prompt fans to speculate perhaps she'd given birth.
- 24:11Speaker 1: She was back, though, with a fresh bump photo shoot.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I thought we'd seen the last of those. Oh, my God.
- 24:16Speaker 1: If I see this– I know this sounds terrible. If
- 24:17Speaker 1: I see that bump one more time, like, I literally
- 24:20Speaker 1: feel like I've seen her own bump more than my
- 24:21Speaker 1: own bump. Like, fucking hell. You know the people that
- 24:24Speaker 1: feel like they've been pregnant forever? Anna McAvoy is on
- 24:27Speaker 1: that level for me as well, where I feel like
- 24:29Speaker 1: those two women have both been pregnant for the longest time.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Anna actually had Steph on her podcast recently. She's got
- 24:35Speaker 1: a pregnancy podcast out and I didn't realize they're actually
- 24:38Speaker 1: go back a while. They modeled together. Well, they were
- 24:41Speaker 1: both poop airing it in the studio. They both had
- 24:43Speaker 1: their bumps out and it just looked hilarious because I'm
- 24:45Speaker 1: used to seeing maybe one woman being edgy with a
- 24:48Speaker 1: pregnant bump out, but it just looked funny. Look, they
- 24:52Speaker 1: both have beautiful pregnancy bumps. They do. I I'm very
- 24:55Speaker 1: envious of their shape. I have to put it out there.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I've been wanting to speak about this for a while
- 24:59Speaker 1: and I'm sure some will tell me if you can relate.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I feel like I have a bee belly bump. Maybe
- 25:04Speaker 1: that's why I'm feeling sensitive. You need to explain because
- 25:06Speaker 1: you keep using this word bee belly and you don't
- 25:08Speaker 1: give it any context. What does that even mean? So
- 25:11Speaker 1: basically there are two pregnancy shapes. One looks like a D.
- 25:16Speaker 1: So if you're thinking of a D, so it's like
- 25:17Speaker 1: a round, a beautiful round belly. Mine looks like it's
- 25:21Speaker 1: got two bumps, like a B. So capital B. Like
- 25:23Speaker 1: a capital B. Do you know what? I'm very sensitive
- 25:26Speaker 1: over it. Maybe that's why I'm not getting mine out.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I just thought of something to make you feel better.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Didn't Molly Mae have that as well? Did she? Yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: she complained that she didn't have the bump that she wanted.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure she, now that you have explained it,
- 25:36Speaker 1: had a B belly as well. Oh, okay. Well, I'm
- 25:38Speaker 1: in good company there anyway. I have totally hijacked this story.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Well, back to Steph. So as you said, we are
- 25:44Speaker 1: on Pregnancy Watch, but on Thursday– She and Laura decided
- 25:48Speaker 1: to use her impending birth to tease a new update
- 25:51Speaker 1: for their fitness app, Kick. Let's throw to the clip. Hello.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Have you had your baby yet? Are you in labour?
- 25:59Speaker 3: No.
- 26:00Speaker 2: No.
- 26:02Speaker 3: They're very comfortable in there, obviously, but no, they are
- 26:05Speaker 3: coming any day now.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And it got me thinking, we haven't had an update
- 26:09Speaker 1: on that thing yet. Have you guys decided when we're
- 26:12Speaker 1: doing that thing? So we are launching.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Sunday.
- 26:17Speaker 1: But don't worry, it's all sorted and it's going to
- 26:19Speaker 1: be amazing. I really hope that it's more exciting than
- 26:23Speaker 1: their last marketing campaign, which was a bit of a
- 26:25Speaker 1: flop over that whole Pilates hotline where people could ring
- 26:28Speaker 1: in and ask about personalized Pilates plans because they really
- 26:31Speaker 1: did hype that up. Yeah, I'm intrigued to see what
- 26:34Speaker 1: it is. I have been using Kik, I think now
- 26:36Speaker 1: for six or seven years. So I've always been a
- 26:39Speaker 1: fan of the app. Yeah, it is a great app.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I mean, I just think some of their marketing promotions
- 26:44Speaker 1: have been interesting of late. Laura Henshaw's husband, who owns
- 26:48Speaker 1: Bullfrog Media, has been responsible for a lot of those campaigns.
- 26:51Speaker 1: So there's probably a bit of pressure on him now
- 26:52Speaker 1: to put out something that really resonates with their audience.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Let's get into our Friday debrief. And I have had
- 27:00Speaker 1: quite an interesting morning. So those of you who know Archie,
- 27:04Speaker 1: who is not the name of my unborn son, that
- 27:06Speaker 1: is in fact my caucus manual, just a fun fact there. Yeah,
- 27:09Speaker 1: we actually had a few confused listeners because you were
- 27:12Speaker 1: talking about the card Brandon gave you for Mother's Day
- 27:15Speaker 1: and you said, He signed it off from your unborn child,
- 27:18Speaker 1: Archie and him. You didn't pause. You meant to say
- 27:21Speaker 1: your unborn child, your dog Archie and Brandon. I thought
- 27:24Speaker 1: it was obvious. But anyway, no. So Archie is not
- 27:28Speaker 1: my baby name. But anyway, people who have been listening
- 27:31Speaker 1: to the podcast for a long time know that Archie
- 27:33Speaker 1: is basically our child as well. He's a golden cocker spaniel.
- 27:37Speaker 1: He has around 37,000 followers on Instagram. He's known as
- 27:41Speaker 1: being a bit of a pupfluencer. And He actually has
- 27:44Speaker 1: a manager, a dog manager who gets any sort of
- 27:49Speaker 1: promotional work for him. They reached out to me. He's
- 27:52Speaker 1: on their website. I thought, why not? Anyway, so we
- 27:55Speaker 1: don't really get that many jobs from him. I think
- 27:57Speaker 1: this is the first one this year and it's for
- 28:01Speaker 1: a vet clinic or a vet company, specialist vets. And basically,
- 28:06Speaker 1: My husband and I had to go down and film
- 28:08Speaker 1: a little video with him. And we were just laughing
- 28:11Speaker 1: because I was showing you back some of the vision.
- 28:12Speaker 1: And it just cracked us up that these vets, they're
- 28:15Speaker 1: posing with Archie as if he's some sort of little
- 28:17Speaker 1: celebrity that's gone into the vet clinic. Yeah, we were
- 28:20Speaker 1: just laughing about how funny it is that this vet
- 28:22Speaker 1: would have got this call briefing him about how this
- 28:25Speaker 1: pup fluence is coming in and he has to film
- 28:27Speaker 1: with him. Like, so funny. I know I'm biased, but
- 28:30Speaker 1: he is just such a good little model for things.
- 28:33Speaker 1: He poses... perfectly for photos he takes such good direction
- 28:37Speaker 1: whenever he's helped us out with any of our sponsors
- 28:40Speaker 1: stuff for the podcast like how well behaved is he
- 28:42Speaker 1: i'm not just oh he's i mean he's putting my
- 28:44Speaker 1: dog to shame i had an absolute nightmare yesterday because
- 28:47Speaker 1: my dog sunny decided to eat one of jack's little
- 28:51Speaker 1: smocks that he wears which a lovely local brand reached
- 28:55Speaker 1: out and gifted those to you kate don't worry i've
- 28:58Speaker 1: got two left but Yeah, Sunny stole one of them
- 29:01Speaker 1: when I wasn't looking. She took it up. We've got
- 29:03Speaker 1: like a three-tiered backyard. So she was on the top level.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I couldn't even see her. I went up there. I'm like,
- 29:07Speaker 1: what are you doing? She'd eaten literally half of the smock.
- 29:10Speaker 1: It's quite a thick material. Had to get my in-laws down.
- 29:13Speaker 1: They were so kind and took Sunny down to the vet.
- 29:16Speaker 1: There's a silver lining though, because it seems like Sunny
- 29:19Speaker 1: has this thing called picker, which is where dogs just
- 29:22Speaker 1: eat anything. So it's not just food. It's like other
- 29:25Speaker 1: objects that they shouldn't be eating. And the vet has
- 29:27Speaker 1: mentioned that maybe we can put her on Prozac. Which
- 29:30Speaker 1: will help. I Googled that. I couldn't actually see whether
- 29:33Speaker 1: that was a real condition or not. PICA?
- 29:35Speaker 2: Yeah. It is.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It's P-I-C-A. Oh, okay. I did spell it incorrectly. No,
- 29:40Speaker 1: it is legitimate condition. If anyone has a dog that
- 29:43Speaker 1: has PICA and has had any results with Prozac, I
- 29:45Speaker 1: would love to know. My Friday debrief is a little
- 29:48Speaker 1: bit different. I've got a recommendation. So Reese and I
- 29:51Speaker 1: are currently off chocolate. We just finished off our Easter
- 29:54Speaker 1: egg haul, which took over a month. That's how much
- 29:56Speaker 1: chocolate there was. And God, I have been indulging and
- 29:59Speaker 1: we're like, we need to start eating healthy because we cook, Jack,
- 30:01Speaker 1: all these beautiful, healthy meals. And we're like, we don't
- 30:04Speaker 1: even eat this nice stuff. So I have a recipe
- 30:07Speaker 1: to share because I always have to have a sweet
- 30:10Speaker 1: treat before I go to bed. And I just Googled
- 30:12Speaker 1: sweet treat on TikTok. And I think these have been
- 30:14Speaker 1: doing the rounds for, I don't know, probably a couple
- 30:17Speaker 1: of years now, but I wanted to endorse them. It's
- 30:19Speaker 1: literally a pitted date. You put peanut butter on it.
- 30:22Speaker 1: We didn't have any, but you can put sprinkled peanuts.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And then you drizzle a bit of dark chocolate. I
- 30:28Speaker 1: know I said it was off chocolate. But you weren't
- 30:30Speaker 1: having chocolate. It was like 70 or 80% dark chocolate.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I don't count that as chocolate. Have you got some
- 30:34Speaker 1: sort of pregnancy algorithm going? Because I've seen these as
- 30:37Speaker 1: something that pregnant women should eat a couple of weeks
- 30:39Speaker 1: before they're giving birth. Oh, that's to soften your cervix
- 30:41Speaker 1: or something? Yeah, because you're apparently supposed to have like
- 30:43Speaker 1: eight dates a day, which. Oh, well, no, this is
- 30:46Speaker 1: not that at all. I feel like it's the exact
- 30:48Speaker 1: same recipe that I've seen. Well, why would I be
- 30:52Speaker 1: trying to soften my cervix? I'm not saying you are.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I'm saying that I feel like this recipe has popped
- 30:56Speaker 1: up for you probably because we keep sending you pregnancy stuff.
- 30:58Speaker 2: No, no.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I Googled it. I Googled sweet treat. Okay. Anyway, highly recommend.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Maybe you have to make some for me then next
- 31:04Speaker 1: couple of weeks. I've got a bat in the fridge
- 31:05Speaker 1: if you want some. All right. I mean, to be honest,
- 31:08Speaker 1: dates sound bloody awful.
- 31:09Speaker 3: They're nice.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Look, in winter– It's getting cold. I think you've got
- 31:12Speaker 1: to have a bit of chocolate. Think of sticky date pudding,
- 31:14Speaker 1: how nice that is. Yeah, well. It hasn't got me
- 31:17Speaker 1: over the edge. Maybe we'll make you a sticky date
- 31:19Speaker 1: pudding in your last week of pregnancy. All right, I'd
- 31:21Speaker 1: rather have that. Well, that is all we have time
- 31:23Speaker 1: for today. Thank you so much for joining us for
- 31:25Speaker 1: this episode. If you have enjoyed it, could you please
