- 0:00Speaker 1: We're back with Jim More on the Yukon Football Coaches
- 0:02Speaker 1: showed Donovan Branch coming up, Lou Hanson the tight end.
- 0:04Speaker 1: We'll talk to them as well about what's ahead for you,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Conn and that's where you got to look now, Jim.
- 0:11Speaker 1: You mentioned in your press conference Tuesday you've got to
- 0:13Speaker 1: play with intensity and intention and you got to leave
- 0:18Speaker 1: the victories behind after a little bit. And you've talked
- 0:20Speaker 1: about it all season, the twenty four hour rule. How
- 0:23Speaker 1: are you going to implement that this week? With air
- 0:26Speaker 1: Force coming up?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Same way we always do. You know, when it's when
- 0:30Speaker 2: we've finished evaluating the previous game, we apply those lessons
- 0:34Speaker 2: and we move on to the next task at hand,
- 0:37Speaker 2: and that's having a great practice on Tuesday and then
- 0:39Speaker 2: on Wednesday and on for Thursday, and then on Friday.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's about, you know, preparing for your opponent all weeks
- 0:45Speaker 2: so you understand their tendencies and what they like to
- 0:47Speaker 2: do and what they're good at. And then you know,
- 0:50Speaker 2: it's going out on Saturday and just kind of loose
- 0:53Speaker 2: and we're playing a team this week that you know
- 0:55Speaker 2: is averaging thirty three points a game, four hundred and
- 0:57Speaker 2: thirty eight yards of game. So their explosive as hell
- 1:00Speaker 2: on offense. Even though you wouldn't necessarily think so about
- 1:03Speaker 2: the style of offense they play, they're incredibly explosive. And
- 1:07Speaker 2: you know, if you look at their statistics for the year,
- 1:11Speaker 2: I don't know if you can appreciate exactly who they've
- 1:13Speaker 2: been the last three games where they're only giving up
- 1:15Speaker 2: twenty points a game. You know, so this is a
- 1:18Speaker 2: freaking really good football team. You know, the coach Calhoun
- 1:22Speaker 2: does an amazing job with him, and you know, you're
- 1:24Speaker 2: playing some of the best and the brightest and the toughest,
- 1:27Speaker 2: hard working, dedicated, committed young men in the United States
- 1:31Speaker 2: of America as they represent US as part of our
- 1:34Speaker 2: Air Force Academy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I love the fact that you've kind has been playing
- 1:38Speaker 1: Service academies here the last few years. Oh, they're so disciplined.
- 1:42Speaker 1: They're a team that features the run. But we saw
- 1:45Speaker 1: that with Rice a few weeks ago. They were a
- 1:47Speaker 1: run team first, but they ended up throwing a ball. So,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I mean, you've got to be prepared for anything with
- 1:52Speaker 1: Air Force, just.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Like every week. But Air Force is different than Rice.
- 1:56Speaker 2: You know, there's similarities, but they're different, and you know,
- 2:02Speaker 2: Air Force has been together a long time with coach Calhoun,
- 2:05Speaker 2: and that staff has continuity. They adjust extremely well to
- 2:09Speaker 2: what you're trying to do on defense. They have a
- 2:11Speaker 2: complete and total knowledge of who they are, what they
- 2:15Speaker 2: want to be, and how to adjust in a game
- 2:17Speaker 2: to take advantage of what you're trying to do to
- 2:19Speaker 2: stop them. So it is a real tough task defensively
- 2:25Speaker 2: for us. And as I said, you know, they've been
- 2:27Speaker 2: very stingy on defense the past three weeks. So we're
- 2:31Speaker 2: going to get their best and we've got to deliver
- 2:33Speaker 2: our best and then, you know, let's just go out
- 2:36Speaker 2: there and cut it loose and play as well as
- 2:37Speaker 2: we can and hope that we can we can find
- 2:40Speaker 2: a way to.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Win jama with us just a couple more minutes. How
- 2:44Speaker 1: much the teams that you're going to play learn from
- 2:47Speaker 1: the previous game? Do you think I'm just wondering, do
- 2:50Speaker 1: put pressure on Joe Finnano early? You know, and got
- 2:53Speaker 1: a couple of sacks, We'll air Force say, wow, look
- 2:56Speaker 1: at this, I think we can get after their quarterback.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Probably. Yeah. You know, when you see weakness on film,
- 3:03Speaker 2: you as a coach and you're evaluating your opponent the
- 3:06Speaker 2: very first thing you do is say how can I
- 3:08Speaker 2: how can I attack that weakness? You know, and if
- 3:11Speaker 2: teams are getting pressure on us, or teams are running
- 3:13Speaker 2: the ball on us, or they're having success in special teams,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and it's up to us, up to us to fix
- 3:21Speaker 2: the issue before the opponent can exploit it. And that's why,
- 3:26Speaker 2: you know, our film evaluation, our self scout, our ownership
- 3:31Speaker 2: of things that didn't go well are so important as
- 3:33Speaker 2: you move through a season, and we spend a lot
- 3:36Speaker 2: of time making sure that we've swept the corners.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Mike, Yeah, I love it, and quickly as we wrap
- 3:42Speaker 1: it up Air Force ukon midday, game noon, gonna be
- 3:47Speaker 1: cold out there, coach, how do you think that's going
- 3:49Speaker 1: to affect what happens? Because now you're getting into that
- 3:51Speaker 1: time of year where it's it's kind of like playoff
- 3:53Speaker 1: time in the Northeast.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It doesn't matter, we're both playing in it. We'll practice
- 4:00Speaker 2: outside tomorrow. It'll be in the thirties. That'll be fine.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It'll be forty three, forty six a kickoff. That's not
- 4:05Speaker 2: that cold. You know, we're a Northeast team. You know,
- 4:10Speaker 2: you haven't been out to practice in a while, but
- 4:12Speaker 2: we've been practicing outside and we practiced. You know, we're
- 4:15Speaker 2: on the field by seven forty five in the morning,
- 4:17Speaker 2: so it's not like it's real warm, and it's just
- 4:20Speaker 2: a it's something that we can't control, so we don't
- 4:22Speaker 2: worry about it. We prepare for it, we don't worry about.
- 4:25Speaker 1: It, all right, Coach, we appreciate it. Jim Moore, the
- 4:28Speaker 1: Huskies Air Force be there. We need you at the
- 4:31Speaker 1: rent on the weekend thanks to Jim coming up. Donovan
- 4:35Speaker 1: Branch Lou Hanson's would continue on the Yukon Football Coaches
