Transcript
- 0:00Alright, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Take Two pod
- 0:04with Mom and Dad. We are back for episode 9.
- 0:08I'm Dad. And I'm mom.
- 0:11We are now exhausted, Kids are down.
- 0:15There's been some positive things, though.
- 0:19As we've made quite some headway with our potty training, yes, I
- 0:25don't think you guys understand. We have been potty training for
- 0:28nine months. Yeah, three day fucking potty
- 0:31training Bonanza my ass. Yeah, it's bullshit.
- 0:34We have. We've made like no headway.
- 0:36He just doesn't go. He doesn't do it.
- 0:39But the last two nights. She's pooping in the toilet.
- 0:43He's pooping in the toilet. Oh my.
- 0:45God, I can't. I fucking didn't believe.
- 0:47I didn't actually believe this day was gonna come.
- 0:50I'm just too tired. I'm I'm too tired to even be
- 0:53happy about it unfortunately. I'm really happy about it.
- 0:57We are back, everybody. We were away for a little bit at
- 1:01this point. It's been 10 days since we
- 1:02posted by the time this goes. Up, God forbid.
- 1:06That time this goes over, it'll probably be more like 12 days.
- 1:09We had some family come in town. We were very busy, so we were
- 1:12unable to post. But we're really, really happy
- 1:14to be back and we're doing one of our favorite movies of all
- 1:16time today. So I say let's get into it.
- 1:20OK, drumroll Mom. Mama always said life was like a
- 1:30box of chocolates. That's right everybody.
- 1:34This week we are doing Forrest Gump, released in 1994, directed
- 1:39by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright and Gary
- 1:44Sinise. Gary Sinise.
- 1:47I thought it was sinus before we started so I'm glad I clarified
- 1:50this. Alright, the synopsis for
- 1:53Forrest Gump, a heartwarming drama about a kind hearted
- 1:57Alabama man with a low IQ who, despite his limitations,
- 2:01witnesses and influences pivotal 20th century American historical
- 2:05events. And that's pretty, pretty
- 2:08accurate. Nailed it.
- 2:10That's boring. I mean, it's yeah, it's
- 2:13synopsis. Synopsis are not always the most
- 2:16synopsize, you know, taglines are what catches you to watch
- 2:19the movie. Yeah, you know, but.
- 2:22What's the tagline on this? The tagline is Life is like a
- 2:27box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna
- 2:29get. Yeah.
- 2:32All right. That'll grab you.
- 2:34That'll grab you. So the budget for this movie was
- 2:3655,000,000 came out in 94 and it did a box office of 700 million
- 2:43worldwide. Adjusted for inflation, that's
- 2:45like $1.4 billion. So this movie made a lot of cash
- 2:49at the theatre. It's a pretty epic movie, so
- 2:52that doesn't surprise me. Yeah, this movie is very epic.
- 2:55Forrest Gump is known to be like one of the greatest films ever,
- 2:59even though if you really sit down and break it down, it's
- 3:02kind of ridiculous, but in a good way.
- 3:05Yeah, we're going to get into that.
- 3:07All right, when was the first time you watched this?
- 3:09Surprise surprise, Mom does not know the.
- 3:12First time I ask you anymore. You can still ask me because
- 3:14there are movies I do remember, but Forrest Gump, for a lot of
- 3:18people born in the 90s, it was just a movie that was always
- 3:21around. It's like it is the movie that's
- 3:23on on Sundays that you'll see on TV all the time.
- 3:26Still, still it's like that, Yeah.
- 3:29So I think the first time that I saw it, my parents were watching
- 3:34it. It was on.
- 3:35I know we never rented it. You didn't ever have to rent
- 3:38Forrest Gump. It's just on like cable TV.
- 3:40Is on hold. Everybody knows this movie.
- 3:42Everybody has seen this movie 100 times.
- 3:44Yes, they have. So no, no recollection was the
- 3:47first time like do you remember watching it like fully?
- 3:50Honestly, probably not until I was an adult.
- 3:54Just only in pieces. Yeah, because I saw pieces of it
- 3:57so many times. Like I think the first time I
- 3:59sat down and watched it and it's an entirety.
- 4:01I was probably like, oh, maybe a teenager.
- 4:03Yeah, this movie, like Forrest Gump, I don't recall personally
- 4:07for myself, I don't remember the first time I watched it all.
- 4:10I remember it was always around, it was always on.
- 4:13And it was the movie where all you remember is run, Forrest run
- 4:19as a kid, like that's all you remember.
- 4:20And then people used to say it at school just, yeah, because it
- 4:24was one of those things. Yeah, it's very quotable, and
- 4:27it's also intentionally and unintentionally funny, which is
- 4:30rare. I think it's rare that something
- 4:32is trying to be funny and also accidentally is hilarious.
- 4:36Yeah, it's it gives me Cohen Brothers vibes where there's
- 4:39some dark comedy where you shouldn't be laughing, but you
- 4:43you're supposed to be funny. And then this one's not super
- 4:45dark, but even the really sad moments, you kind of sometimes
- 4:50you're just like, oh, you crack, you laugh a little bit.
- 4:53Yeah, there's some darkness, but I feel like Forrest optimism
- 4:56really brings a lot of levity to this movie because like the
- 5:00Vietnam scene could be 20 times more fucked up than it is, but
- 5:04it's not that fucked up because he like runs in and saves
- 5:06everybody. Like it just, it makes it kind
- 5:09of a little bit silly. It's because, well, I mean, he's
- 5:13narrating, right? So he could be technically an
- 5:16unreliable narrator or he's telling us his point of view.
- 5:19Whereas really horrible. And he's just like, dude, you
- 5:24know, he's going through it like Homer Simpson.
- 5:26Yeah, well, it's also the way it's shot, though.
- 5:28It's not shot like Saving Private Ryan.
- 5:29Like we don't see people walking around holding their limbs, it's
- 5:33like. That probably happened, but he's
- 5:34like they did it. It's more of like a family
- 5:37friendly version of like war and all these horrible things.
- 5:41Even like her drug addiction, we don't see her sticking a needle
- 5:44in her arm or anything really, really dark.
- 5:46That's true. OK, so why do you love it or
- 5:50hate it so much? Um, so I love this movie so
- 5:54much. Like I said, it was, it's, it's
- 5:56been around almost my entire life.
- 5:59It came out two years after I was born, so it's very familiar.
- 6:03Tom Hanks at this point, Tom Hanks's family, we all know him.
- 6:07We all know his face. He's like, he's like that
- 6:09friendly uncle. He's the goat.
- 6:11He's the goat. You see him and you have like a
- 6:13warmth spread through you. I don't know anybody who doesn't
- 6:16like Tom Hanks. Regardless of your political
- 6:18views, regardless of the type of movies you like to watch,
- 6:22everybody likes him. Why do you like it or hate it so
- 6:25much? So I love this movie for a lot
- 6:28of reasons. One of the main reasons being
- 6:31it's a very nice cohesive story. It's almost like a fairy tale
- 6:37because he's narrating it. And I love movies with
- 6:40narration. As you know, Goodfellas is one
- 6:43of my favorite movies, the favorite movie of mine, and it's
- 6:46narrated. Shawshank Redemption narrated,
- 6:50Blow narrated, you know, you get the point.
- 6:54Movies with narration. People say that movies with
- 6:56narration it's it's a lazy way of storytelling because it fills
- 7:00in gaps without you actually having.
- 7:01To, you know, think about what you're saying is being Dicks
- 7:04because a lot of movies with narration fucking slap.
- 7:08I agree, I like a lot of movies with narration too but there is
- 7:11like people that are really into like introspective stories you
- 7:15have to dissect. They're like, Oh well, narrated
- 7:19stories are for the dumb public because it tells you exactly
- 7:22what they want you to think rather than letting you think of
- 7:24yourself. I guess, but you still have to
- 7:26tell the story. You can't just narrate garbage
- 7:28either. So anyway, yeah, so narration.
- 7:33Love this movie because of that and just the story, the
- 7:36characters and fuck man this movie watching at this time as a
- 7:40parent Oh my God. You were in shambles.
- 7:44Listen, I love this movie because it takes force through
- 7:48critical moments in his life, and the audience can always
- 7:52relate. You know, being a kid, growing
- 7:55up, trauma, having loss in your life, the unknown, the fear of
- 8:00the unknown. And then at the end of the
- 8:01movie, you're left with a feeling of hope that at the end
- 8:05of the day, everything's gonna just work out.
- 8:09Well, everything works out for for us at least.
- 8:11No, I know, but you just feel like that's the feeling it
- 8:15leaves you with. You could say this movie is kind
- 8:17of manipulate, manipulating the audience.
- 8:20But this last viewing I bawled my eyes out like fucking 6
- 8:24times. This movie just wrecked me.
- 8:27Just absolutely wrecked me as a parent.
- 8:29So we'll get into the hitting different as a parent, but holy
- 8:33shit, how about? You.
- 8:35Well, yeah, like I said, I. Didn't cry as much as me.
- 8:39No. Cold hearted monster.
- 8:42To be honest, if it's a movie that I've seen a lot, it's
- 8:46probably not going to make me cry.
- 8:47Like Titanic also didn't make me cry, even though it can be
- 8:50really sad. Yeah, what usually gets me is
- 8:53movies I don't know that well. Like when we watched what was it
- 8:56called the counselor or something or the The Courier?
- 8:59Was the. Courier.
- 9:00Yeah, the Courier, remember? I bawled.
- 9:02That was inconsolable. After that movie I didn't cry.
- 9:04It was weird. And I still love Benedict
- 9:06Cumberbatch to this day because that movie.
- 9:07But yeah, it's it has to catch me off guard to make me cry, I
- 9:10find. Really.
- 9:11Yeah, yeah, yeah. This movie The like Forrest
- 9:13Gump, the soundtrack. Anyway, it's just a huge
- 9:16tearjerker, but unless you're cold hearted like mom over here.
- 9:20OK, so let's get in this segments cringiest moment.
- 9:23This is going to be fun. Go ahead.
- 9:26Well, for me, it's not a very cringey movie.
- 9:29I actually had a really hard time with this area, which I
- 9:32usually don't. It's usually very easy for me to
- 9:34find something that I was like you.
- 9:35That's gross for me. I really only have two.
- 9:40So one of them is when when that guy with the yellow T-shirt
- 9:44gives Forest his the shirt to wipe his face off.
- 9:48When he's running. And yeah, and he accidentally. 3
- 9:50fucking years he's running. Well, we'll get.
- 9:53Into yeah, three years. Get the fuck out of here.
- 9:56Bro anyway he hands on the yellow shirt and he accidentally
- 9:59makes the :) on the shirt his face and he gives it back to the
- 10:04guy. The guy holds up the shirt and
- 10:05looks at it and there's muddle over his face and he sticks his
- 10:08tongue out and licks the mud off his face.
- 10:11What the fuck are you? Do you?
- 10:13I must have drank about 15 Nacho Peppers.
- 10:16No, you're, you're, you're anyway.
- 10:18So I, I hated that cause he licked mud off his face, which
- 10:20was disgusting. And then the other one I have, I
- 10:23don't know if the word for it is cringy.
- 10:26OK, but when Jenny is playing the guitar naked on stage and
- 10:31like all those men are just like being assholes, like somebody is
- 10:35singing a song. And her name is Bobby Dylan.
- 10:38Let her sing her song you assholes.
- 10:40That was a cringy part. Or her being naked singing.
- 10:43Her being naked, singing, and then like refusing to sit there
- 10:46for a single song while she sings because they want to see
- 10:49some titties. Like, are you fucking kidding?
- 10:50Me strip joint and. Her voice was.
- 10:52Weird strip joint. It.
- 10:54Was it's like a talent show? Yeah, it was like a burlesque
- 10:57show. But I don't know, I really hated
- 11:00that scene because it it seemed like she was either naive to go
- 11:03out there like that or the men watching her just assholes, or
- 11:06both. Listen, we'll get into Jenny
- 11:07later, but you, you said two cringey moments, so you broke
- 11:11the rules. For me, it's the principle, AKA
- 11:14Bernard from Lost having sex with Forrest Mom.
- 11:17That was the cringiest shit I've ever seen.
- 11:21And no matter how many times I've seen it, it doesn't get any
- 11:24easier to watch. Yeah, why does he sound like a
- 11:26baby lamb? Who?
- 11:28The principal is like. That's gross.
- 11:32I'll get into that later. I have a question about that
- 11:34whole situation, but it's a really Hoey scene.
- 11:39It kind of felt really out of place.
- 11:40Like he's talking. Let's not judge for his mom.
- 11:44What she was trimming. Yeah.
- 11:46She was doing the best she could for her son.
- 11:48She's a single mom. We're not.
- 11:49We're not slut shaming Sally Fields.
- 11:53But I am it's really uncomfortable seeing really
- 11:56messed up just immediately goes to he's on vacation.
- 12:02Like, I'm sorry, what kind of what kind of role model is this
- 12:06person? Well, back then, you couldn't
- 12:08like being divorced was very, very not risque.
- 12:11What's the word I'm looking for? Taboo.
- 12:13So if you were divorced, you would have a line like that.
- 12:16He's on vacation. Doesn't anyway, that doesn't
- 12:19validate what she did. OK, so anyways, cringey moment,
- 12:22really awkward. And then him coming out and
- 12:24saying your Mama really does love you boy.
- 12:26And then for us again, it's so uncomfortable, Yeah.
- 12:31Him saying that to a kid like I just fucked your mom real good
- 12:35dude. Like Iowa?
- 12:42Your momma show does care about your school and son.
- 12:52You don't say much, do you? Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
- 13:01Yeah, really uncomfortable. Yeah, that is like.
- 13:03Close the fucking window, put some loud music or something or
- 13:07you're. I feel bad for Forrest when he's
- 13:09on that little. Exactly.
- 13:10And that's happening. It is.
- 13:12It is just. Our bad parenting bad.
- 13:14OK, Most iconic moment or quote? Why don't you go first for this
- 13:18one? Oh my God, I might run through
- 13:20all the quotes here so. We'll do a couple moments. 1st I
- 13:24have some moments as well. For me, the most epic iconic
- 13:28moment for this movie. There's several, there's tons of
- 13:30them, but for me, the one that hits the hardest every single
- 13:34time with the music and the the the slow motion forest running
- 13:40and breaking out of his leg braces is so fucking inspiring
- 13:46it and it literally you throat swells up because you feel for
- 13:51the kid and Jenny's like. Run for forest.
- 13:54Room and he's just like running and then out of nowhere the the
- 14:00leg braces start breaking off and hit the kid turns into
- 14:02lightning fast. The mute, the music for that
- 14:06moment is really good too. It's it's really triumphant.
- 14:08But did you know that that moment has actually been
- 14:10cancelled? Why?
- 14:12Because it's ableist. Oh fuck off Ablist.
- 14:16It's supposed to be inspirational.
- 14:17The rules. There's a lot of people that are
- 14:19in physical rehab, they are down and out and they need something
- 14:24to motivate them to push through, to try to rehabilitate
- 14:28themselves. I.
- 14:28Agree, I love that. Not everybody can, but those
- 14:31people who say it's ablest, they're fucked.
- 14:34I'm sorry. No I agree, I love that scene
- 14:36and I think it is showing him overcoming one of many hurdles
- 14:40in. His life, it's not just about
- 14:41running. It's it's a, it's a metaphor for
- 14:44struggle. And triumph and working through
- 14:48them breaking free. Yeah, I don't.
- 14:51I don't, I don't actually feel that it's ablest, but I it, it
- 14:54has been cancelled for that fucking society, man.
- 14:56I know. Everything is a problem.
- 14:57Though I know OK, so for me, one of the most iconic moments for
- 15:03me, I really like the character of Lieutenant Dan.
- 15:07I think he has one of the best character arcs of of anyone in
- 15:10the movie. So when Lieutenant Dan, thanks
- 15:14for us for saving his life and then and then jumps into the
- 15:17water to take a swim, so good. It's it's really and Jen for us
- 15:21is like, I think he made peace. God, it really is.
- 15:24It's an arc. It's inspirational too, isn't?
- 15:27It it is inspirational. Exactly.
- 15:29He was he was mad at the world, he was mad at forest, he did not
- 15:32want to survive in Nam and he was finally allowing himself to
- 15:36live his life and enjoy his life again.
- 15:45I never thanked you for saving my life.
- 15:49Yeah, he he understood that that was his destiny was to live the
- 15:53rest of his life. And that motherfucker did not
- 15:56let being disabled slow him down.
- 15:58He's on a boat. He's like, he was on like the
- 16:01top of the sale shouting at the storm.
- 16:04He was an inspirational. Character and then he gets his
- 16:07magic legs at the end. Yeah, he does.
- 16:10Yeah, that's a great scene. Like I said, this movie has a
- 16:12lot of moments, like really amazing ones.
- 16:15Even the one where the one of my favorites is when he's in Nam
- 16:20and they all get attacked and he's like running into the
- 16:24towards the gunfire and the Rockets to save all his crew.
- 16:28Yeah, he really is fearless in that scene.
- 16:30Yeah, it's really like a gut wrenching, thrilling moment in
- 16:34the movie. I agree.
- 16:37I also really like the scene where Forrest and Jenny find
- 16:39each other in Washington. Oh yes.
- 16:41He gives his speech and she's like forest and she goes into
- 16:45that water and you know. Monument you get.
- 16:48Well, it's just like he sees his favorite person in the world.
- 16:50Yeah. Like no way my favorite person
- 16:52in the world is here. You cannot help but get choked
- 16:54up. Yeah, that's that's that's
- 16:56really amazing moment. Those are the only scenes I
- 16:58have. I have quotes.
- 16:59Other than that, you have any more scenes?
- 17:01No, no, no, I say. Let's, let's go through the
- 17:03quotes. You you want to go first.
- 17:05Yeah, because I think probably some of yours are going to step
- 17:07on some of mine. OK, you'll do them and then I'll
- 17:10do them again with the voices if you want.
- 17:12OK, could go. What's normal anyways?
- 17:16His mom always says that when people ask like is he normal or
- 17:19what? Like you know what's normal?
- 17:20Because she is very protective of her son and she loves him
- 17:24regardless. Like what is normal?
- 17:26Is anybody really normal? You want to take turns.
- 17:29Yeah, you got. Tanks.
- 17:31If God had intended for everyone to be in the same, he would have
- 17:34given everyone braces on their legs.
- 17:37Pulled from her. Yeah, no, she has really good
- 17:41moments. That's why I don't understand
- 17:43the the scene where she's banging Bernard from Lost like.
- 17:46Fuck, I think it's showing that she will not let anything get in
- 17:49her son's way she wants him to have.
- 17:50Every opportunity but they it's just weird.
- 17:53It's a weird, out of place moment in the movie for me.
- 17:56Well, people also. It's such a happy go lucky movie
- 17:59and he just, you know, OK, next one.
- 18:02Go ahead. I can run like the wind blows.
- 18:05Baby's crying Go. Sorry folks, I had to go give
- 18:11our baby her Passy back. She has yet to learn how to find
- 18:15it and put it in her mouth in the dark.
- 18:16Well, yeah. And then she, yeah, we could
- 18:19barely hear her. And I just my Spidey sense, my
- 18:21daddy's sense was tingling so. Yeah, anyway, so the quote I had
- 18:26said was I can run like the wind blows.
- 18:29Hell yeah. It's such a good, such a good
- 18:32quote and it just, it really it's a big piece of of his
- 18:37personality throughout the movie.
- 18:39I'll say the one I said to open the show.
- 18:41Laugh is lack a box of chocolates.
- 18:44Fucking iconic. It's everywhere.
- 18:47It's it's cliche now. It's also true, yeah, everybody
- 18:51has bitten into a piece of chocolate and it's like a
- 18:52Raspberry cream and it's disgusting.
- 18:54But the box of chocolates part is a little misleading.
- 18:58Like there's a fucking key on every box you fucking idiot.
- 19:02Like, yeah, but sometimes you're just gonna, you're gonna blind,
- 19:04you're gonna blindly go in. No, never.
- 19:07That's how people fucking have allergic reactions.
- 19:09They have a key for a reason. OHP If you're allergic to
- 19:12something, you're not gonna reach into a box of chocolates
- 19:14blindly. You will if you're a kid or a
- 19:16fucking idiots. That's that's true.
- 19:20Emma drank me about 15 doctor Peppers.
- 19:23Almost dragged me about 15 Doctor Pepples.
- 19:26You're better at the voice than me.
- 19:27What else you got? I think you should go back to
- 19:31Greenbow Alabama. The audio didn't peak.
- 19:36I'm sorry. Greenbow, Alabama.
- 19:39Such a good line I was running. It's the hard G, yeah.
- 19:47I gotta find Bubba. Also heartbreaking.
- 19:53They decided the best way for me to beat the communist was to
- 19:55play ping pong. Beat the Communists.
- 20:00There's an awful lot you can tell about a person, about their
- 20:02shoes, where they've been, where they're gone.
- 20:07And that's a fact because I have a habit now, personal habit.
- 20:11I look at people's shoes not because I wanna know where
- 20:14they've been and where they're going, but it tells me a lot
- 20:17about their personality. You're also a sneaker head
- 20:19though. Yeah, but think about it, you
- 20:21can tell a lot about people's shoe, about the person by what
- 20:24they wear on their feet because like if they are at work and
- 20:28they were, you know, let's say they have a corporate office job
- 20:30and they wear, you know, dad shoes, dad sneakers, you know,
- 20:34they depends like those those year round shoes that people buy
- 20:39at sport check. Like you can tell this person's
- 20:42utilitarian. They're not worried about
- 20:44fashion. They go to dinner with stretchy
- 20:46pants on, you know what I mean? Like that type of person.
- 20:49And then you see a person with fresh nice white sneakers,
- 20:53you're like, OK, this person cares about their self-image.
- 20:57You know, they're trying to depending where they're going,
- 20:59obviously. Or like if you go to the grocery
- 21:02store to grab something quick, you wear flip flops or
- 21:04something. But yeah, you can tell a lot.
- 21:06It's true. Because how funky, how much, how
- 21:09fashionable this person. Is no how comfortable a pair of
- 21:11shoes is. It'll tell you everything you
- 21:13need to know. There are some women that will
- 21:16wear the most horrendously uncomfortable shoes.
- 21:19To look good, That's true, that's true and then vice versa.
- 21:22When you get to a certain age, you're just like fuck everything
- 21:24and you just wear the same. You know what shoes like really
- 21:27popular and I fucking hate the Hakkas, those really thick ass
- 21:32like the soul is like 3 souls. It's a running shoe.
- 21:36It looks awful, but it's like it's the trend.
- 21:39I think it looks terrible. I think it's like popular
- 21:42amongst boomers. Haka, it's called.
- 21:44No Skechers popular amongst boomers or boomers.
- 21:47No, but Hakkas like the the high end boomer sketches like the.
- 21:52The Lululemon. Most the one above payless kind
- 21:54of vibe. Fair enough.
- 21:56Yeah, the little lemon boomers are wearing haka.
- 21:58What else you got? I have stupid is as stupid does.
- 22:02Yep, so many times that gets pulled out.
- 22:05You're smart man, but I know what love is.
- 22:09You say that at home, sometimes for no reason.
- 22:12Yeah, because you, if you question me and I'll be like, I
- 22:16may not be a smart man, but I know where I put that thing
- 22:20last. I remember.
- 22:24So I have Lieutenant Dan says. Have you found Jesus yet?
- 22:27Gump and Forrest, Gump says. I didn't know I was supposed to
- 22:31be looking for him, Sir. It's such a good one.
- 22:34Oh, yeah. So when Forrest comes back from
- 22:36Vietnam and he goes to Washington and there's that
- 22:40whole, you know, anti war group and there's a stage, they pull
- 22:44him onto the stage, right, to talk about the war.
- 22:47And the forest says that thing. He says what he says.
- 22:52But one guy pulls all the microphones out.
- 22:55So nobody hears what Forrest says until he plugs in and he
- 22:58says that's all I have to say about that.
- 23:01And then the other guy goes Forrest Gump.
- 23:05I love that line. Forrest Gump.
- 23:07That's how you say the title of this movie.
- 23:08Always go Forrest. Gump because it's so, it's so
- 23:11epic, how the guys. Yeah, but we don't say it,
- 23:13right. When I heard it in the recent
- 23:14watching, I was like, that's not how we say it.
- 23:17With like way more of an accent than that guy actually had.
- 23:19I disagree, I just have one more.
- 23:25Sometimes there just aren't enough rocks, which is a really
- 23:29sad scene. It's when it's when Jenny's
- 23:32throwing the rocks at her. Ohe yeah, that's well you
- 23:34because she really sad. She's throwing rocks at like a
- 23:38memory that there's nothing you can do about it and she's just
- 23:40trying to click cause harm to a building as retribution for what
- 23:46happened to her. It's really sad.
- 23:48I know I got a couple more here. Oh, my God.
- 23:50I don't know how you didn't say this one, Lieutenant Dan.
- 23:54Ice cream. I have that later, but that's a
- 23:57classic. You better tuck that in.
- 24:00Don't want to get a car or a tripwire?
- 24:02Bubba. Bubba's fucking lip.
- 24:04We both died laughing when he said.
- 24:06That one hit hard this time. I was laughing so hard, but I
- 24:09tucked that shit in like it's a shirt.
- 24:12This is a fucking lip. What's wrong with your lip?
- 24:18I was born with big guns That. Well you better talk that in
- 24:22going to get that caught on a tripwire.
- 24:26Why are you boys running the world, Alabama?
- 24:30Caught over Tripwire. He was.
- 24:33I was born with big gums. Yeah, it's such a savage roast.
- 24:40Alright, is this movie a classic in 2026 or is it cancelled?
- 24:46Do you wanna go first? Because I have some stuff to
- 24:48say. I got some.
- 24:50I gotta, I gotta, I got a hot take here.
- 24:52So I'm gonna say this movie is fully cancelled in 2026.
- 24:57And not because I think it, but because society, if I take what
- 25:00society looks at now, this movie like it would never get made.
- 25:05And if it did get made, it would be totally, totally like redone.
- 25:09Because this movie is a story of a guy who's a descendant of the
- 25:15founder of the KKK, who is named after the KKK leader, and he
- 25:20punches a guy at a Black Panther Party.
- 25:23He throws a woman off his lap. He starts fights with almost
- 25:27everyone he sees or hangs out. Every time he runs into Jenny,
- 25:30he throws a punch at somebody. He doesn't mean to though.
- 25:33He's protected. I'm not done.
- 25:35He moons the president in front of people gay shows him his ass.
- 25:42Like you're fucking cancelled bro.
- 25:45He's like 17 HMR violations right now.
- 25:48He takes money from the peak communist China for ping pong
- 25:52for for ping pong battle it takes money.
- 25:54She was employed by the US military when.
- 25:56He did that takes money, his sponsorship from Communist
- 25:59China. I'm talking about like how
- 26:01people. Just look at those.
- 26:02Just the yeah. Yeah, it's a bad look.
- 26:04Yeah, a little bit. And also Tom Hanks is playing a
- 26:07developmentally delayed person. Also public urination.
- 26:11He's like in Vietnam. He's just like, if we had to go,
- 26:14we went like you just fucking shitting and pissing everywhere.
- 26:18There's just pee and shit everywhere.
- 26:19Like, come on, man. What are you supposed to do?
- 26:21Hold it? You have to.
- 26:24Well, he's canceled guy. Public urination is not a cool
- 26:26thing. Oh my God, I did not think you
- 26:29were gonna go there with that. But just to play on the Tom
- 26:32Hanks playing a disabled person. There were several movies that
- 26:35came out in the 90s where a non disabled person, Cuba Gooding
- 26:39Junior, played radio. Yeah.
- 26:43Who played Rain Man? Dennis Hoffman, Dustin Hoffman,
- 26:45Dustin Dennis, Dustin Hoffman played Rain Man, several others.
- 26:51At that time it was fine like that was the they wouldn't
- 26:54expect you to get somebody like with ASD to play somebody who
- 26:59has ASD. Well, that's the least of my
- 27:02thing, honestly. I'm just talking about Forrest
- 27:04Gump as the character. We're talking about a story of a
- 27:07guy who supposed to feel bad for, but all these things that
- 27:09he does, like he's named after a KKK leader.
- 27:12Like nobody would be like, oh, this is a great movie.
- 27:15They'd be like what the fuck? I don't think we're supposed to
- 27:17like the fact that he's named for a KKK.
- 27:19I think that's a slight on his mother, that she's a.
- 27:22Little so much shit. Like he pushes people, he
- 27:25punches people. Oh yeah, everybody's fucking
- 27:27ship goes down during a hurricane and he gets all the
- 27:30shrimp. All those poor shrimp.
- 27:33Boat captains lose all their fucking livelihood and he just
- 27:36makes. A hurricane that's his fault.
- 27:38But do you think he fucking handed out to Maybe he hired
- 27:41some people and helped them? Out.
- 27:42I'm sure he did. He had like 17.
- 27:43Geno. On the water, I'm sure he.
- 27:45Hired some of them. If he did, I don't know if he
- 27:47he, he paid back, you know? I'm sure he does he so my my
- 27:53cancelled item is a little heavy.
- 27:56Jenny has been cancelled. Seemingly frustrating for us
- 28:00along and not giving him a chance.
- 28:02Sure, until she's dying of AIDS and basically wants to be cared
- 28:06for and wants somebody to look after her kid.
- 28:08So a lot of people called Jenny a villain, and there actually
- 28:13isn't a villain in this movie. So it is kind of easy to pin the
- 28:17villain narrative on her, but Jenny has trauma from her
- 28:22childhood. Yeah, I don't, I don't, I don't
- 28:24agree with people that throw her into.
- 28:26That No, it's ridiculous. Yeah.
- 28:27She does not believe that she deserves love because she was
- 28:31molested by her father, the person who's supposed to love
- 28:33and protect her. This is why Jenny.
- 28:35She has all those shitty boyfriends.
- 28:37Yes, This is why Jenny pushes Forest way she doesn't believe
- 28:40she deserves that pure form of love and she also does not want
- 28:43to take advantage of an innocent the way she was taking advantage
- 28:47of in her innocence. The scene in her dorm room where
- 28:50she is helping Forest dry off. She.
- 28:53She shows him her tits. That's hilarious.
- 28:56He comes right away and he's, he's like.
- 28:58Ohhhhh he dumps. Yeah, and he seemed, he seems
- 29:02upset and then like a little bit scared and she, she feels like
- 29:07she just violated someone the way she.
- 29:11No, I'm just saying the way she was violated, which This is why
- 29:14she doesn't end up with him until the end.
- 29:16She had to do some serious healing before she could accept
- 29:19that pure form of love, and before she could understand that
- 29:22Forrest did in fact, want to be with her sexually once he once
- 29:26he had grown up a little bit. Sure, but I don't think that's
- 29:28what she felt. I think she would just like all
- 29:30this poor guy. He's never been with a girl and
- 29:33he's like ooh I'm dizzy like that seems really funny.
- 29:37And then the poor roommates fucking blanket.
- 29:39I think it is that she didn't want to take advantage of
- 29:41someone the way she was. Taking over the poor roommate
- 29:43blanket like fuck. Off it was her robe.
- 29:46That's even worse. I know I'd be pissed if it was
- 29:49me, but I I just, I had to say that about Jenny because she's
- 29:52been vilified and whoever vilifies or does not understand
- 29:57the extent of childhood trauma, especially severe trauma, yes,
- 30:00it affects everything you do. She has problems.
- 30:02She has problems and the she has, other than Lieutenant
- 30:05Dance, she has the most impressive character arc because
- 30:07she really does grow and develop in this story.
- 30:10She's not a villain, she's a human.
- 30:13I agree. A human who's damaged.
- 30:16She's got some cars. Everybody has scars.
- 30:19Yeah, she's got some deep scars. OK, does your category.
- 30:24It's 2026, so we touched on this a little bit already, but if
- 30:29this movie came out today, it would be explicitly stated that
- 30:33Forrest Gump has ASD, which is Autism spectrum disorder.
- 30:37He was actually more of a savant in the book, like he was a
- 30:41genius, but they chose to steer away from that narrative in the
- 30:45movie to avoid comparisons to Rain Man.
- 30:47They didn't want to make him like basically somebody with
- 30:50with Asperger's or like a high functioning autistic.
- 30:53Person OK but they don't really say, they just use low IQ.
- 30:56Yeah, yeah. Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 30:57But if it came out today, they would have like a.
- 30:59Diagnosis. Oh, I see.
- 31:01They that's what they would give him.
- 31:02OK, yeah, cause they like, it's the only thing they really say
- 31:05is that he's slow or that he has a lower IQ.
- 31:07They don't, actually. He's just a little bit
- 31:09challenged. Yeah.
- 31:10And in the era that he was born, like in the 50's, the 40s or
- 31:12whatever, when he was born, he wouldn't have been diagnosed.
- 31:15So it does fit the timing. OK, OK.
- 31:19Jenny would be put in therapy like they just take her out of
- 31:23her rapist dad's house and send her to live with her grandma.
- 31:26Like if that came out today or if that happened today, the
- 31:28child would be put like in therapy with social service or
- 31:33with social services to like help her.
- 31:35Maybe, Yeah, maybe. I mean, I don't know what it
- 31:38would be like depending on the scenario.
- 31:40I mean, it is Alabama, so I don't know what the system is
- 31:46like there in terms of helping out.
- 31:48I think it's mandatory if someone has been sexually abused
- 31:51that they have to go to therapy. Yeah, like I said, I don't know
- 31:54the details on that, but yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 31:57So that would happen and then Jenny would have died from a
- 32:01fentanyl overdose instead of AIDS.
- 32:04That's fucked up. Well cause no aids.
- 32:06Is very laughing bro. Cause AIDS AIDS is very 80s and
- 32:09she died in the 80s. From I don't think it was AIDS.
- 32:11They never say it's AIDS. They never say it's AIDS, but
- 32:13it's implied it. Could have been cancer.
- 32:15It No it's not. It's implied to be AIDS because
- 32:18she used intravenous drugs. Yeah, but it could have been
- 32:21cancer. It could have been the form of
- 32:22hepatitis. It could have been but they
- 32:26don't really say. But no I'm saying it was aids
- 32:28cause it's implied to be aids. But if it was today she would
- 32:30have died from fentanyl because nobody really gets AIDS anymore.
- 32:36Why are you laughing? I don't know.
- 32:37I'm sick. I'm comfortable.
- 32:41It is kind of yeah, it it would be, it would be a designer drug
- 32:44if it was today, like she's doing coke and stuff.
- 32:47That's what I'm saying. Like it would have been.
- 32:49Yeah, yeah, it would have been a great feel.
- 32:51Weird. Fucking horrible.
- 32:54Place just laughed about it because the face you made like I
- 32:56don't think. AIDS.
- 32:57I didn't expect you to say that. You were saying all this nice
- 32:59shit about Jenny a minute ago. She's traumatized.
- 33:02She's got childhood trauma. Yeah, she would have died from
- 33:04fentanyl instead of AIDS. Yeah, but she's snorting coke
- 33:07like it's going out of style. Like she wouldn't, she would
- 33:09have tried fentanyl 100%. Did you have anything for this?
- 33:14Category yeah, the CGI, it would have been way worse if it was
- 33:19made today because. It is good that.
- 33:23People doing the ping pong. Great CGI.
- 33:25The ping pong playing is none of it's real.
- 33:26It's all CGI ping pongs. It's it's great.
- 33:29If it was made today it would have been shit.
- 33:32That's what I'm saying. The feather at the beginning is
- 33:33not great. It's pretty good, you can tell.
- 33:36You fucking asked me if it was a real feather, so don't you dare.
- 33:40You ask at the very beginning it looks really good and then when
- 33:43it gets near shoe it looks. It looks like a freaking cartoon
- 33:47burst out laughing. I don't want to make you feel
- 33:48bad. We're gonna roast your ass here
- 33:50on the pod. How the fuck would they have a
- 33:52camera that high to follow a feather?
- 33:56OK, I. Couldn't 1990?
- 33:59Four, I couldn't leave you. And yes, the CGI is very good.
- 34:02The only time. But when it gets by his shoe, it
- 34:04looks like a cartoon feather. Looks like a video game feather.
- 34:07No the the part that's crazy is they cut from the fake feather
- 34:11to a real 1 and he puts it in the book.
- 34:13That's fucking cool. Yeah, but that's when it looked
- 34:15like. Right before it becomes real is
- 34:16when it looks the most fake. Well, you couldn't tell before
- 34:19because it wasn't like in 4K, but that.
- 34:21Is it's it is a good feather at the beginning, but they got lazy
- 34:25right before. It touched his shit that easy.
- 34:27It was. The technical spent less time on
- 34:29that. No less movie Jurassic Park.
- 34:31They're fucking CGI is unbelievable for the time.
- 34:34It completely holds up. Yeah, and also the only time
- 34:37like all the scenes where he's in real life situations, like
- 34:41when they're doing, when he's in the the Oval Office with the
- 34:44presidents, like you got Kennedy there.
- 34:47You've got. Fucking yeah.
- 34:48They used real footage and they put him inside real footage
- 34:52which. Was crazy.
- 34:53Exactly. That's epic.
- 34:55That's a flex. Also CGI would have been shit
- 34:59unless David Fincher did it because David Fincher is psycho
- 35:02and he would have made it look really good in Zodiac he redid
- 35:06all of like San Francisco from the 70s and 60s with CGI and
- 35:11people were like is this real? It's unbelievable.
- 35:14Next time you watch Zodiac look at it.
- 35:16People to this day, they can't tell if it's real or not, but
- 35:19it's all CGI. OK, now with the David Fincher
- 35:21praise. We're not even doing it with
- 35:22Fincher movie. OK.
- 35:23Who plays Forrest if it comes out today?
- 35:26If it comes out today, yeah. Tom Holland.
- 35:29Tom. Holland Yeah, it has to be a
- 35:32beloved actor. What the fuck is Tom Holland
- 35:35gonna play Forrest Gump for? If it came out today or the guy
- 35:40you know who actually the guy who baby driver, who's that guy?
- 35:44That guy would. Play.
- 35:45I can't remember his name. Driver.
- 35:47Oh. Yeah, Baby Driver could do it
- 35:48because he's like tall and handsome and sweet.
- 35:50And they think he's Kevin, Spacey says.
- 35:53He's slow, remember? Is that why the movie?
- 35:57They think he's slow. Oh no, that's not why.
- 35:59But it I mean, he could. No, I could change.
- 36:03My pick was Adam Driver. You are.
- 36:07What do you mean he's big bulky guy.
- 36:10He could. He kind of looks like he could
- 36:12make a doofus face to be. Somebody who loved he has to be
- 36:16like, why sweet? Why would he have to be sweet?
- 36:18I don't drivers like. Nobody cared about Tom Hanks
- 36:22until later. He's he's Darth Vader.
- 36:24I don't want him. He's not Darth Vader.
- 36:27What's his name? And then I don't even know.
- 36:30I don't know either. Darth.
- 36:34He's he's, I don't know, he's a Darth, Yeah.
- 36:36Sure, the fucking. Read the remakes of the Star
- 36:41Wars was so bad. We didn't even watch the last
- 36:43one, we watched the 1st 2:00. First one was good because it
- 36:46was the episode 4 again. But yeah, the second one was
- 36:49trash. He likes the rogue one.
- 36:53Was it called Rogue? One Rogue One.
- 36:54Yeah, it was good. The Rogue One.
- 36:56The Rogue One. OK, so who plays Jenny 2026?
- 37:06Ah, that's that's hard. You know what?
- 37:08You know what's weird? I have a non actress I want
- 37:10Taylor Swift play Jenny. People will fucking hate her
- 37:14even more for screwing Jenny Force over.
- 37:17No, no. For Swifties, be like you bitch.
- 37:20Taylor Swift is very beloved. I think she could.
- 37:22Get away with it. Emma Stone as Jen A I don't know
- 37:27if she's. Not soft enough, You have to be
- 37:29soft. Soft.
- 37:30She's soft. Robin right, isn't soft.
- 37:33You know, Jennifer Lawrence could be Jenny.
- 37:35She could do it, yeah. She's dots.
- 37:36Off. She's soft.
- 37:38What do you mean soft? Like like has a like feminine
- 37:42sweet like Emma Stones. Like.
- 37:44Emma Stones looks and voice. Nothing is soft like Jennifer
- 37:48Lawrence looks very soft. No, but Jayla would just come
- 37:51off as a bitch by saying you know, you don't know what love
- 37:54is like, I think. She just think she could.
- 37:57I think she could do it anyway. You're underestimating her.
- 38:01No, I think she's great. I think she's wrong for the
- 38:03role. OK, can you watch this with your
- 38:06parents? Yes, it's actually a great
- 38:09family movie. It's pretty wholesome and
- 38:11there's very limited nudity and sexuality.
- 38:13I mean, there's a couple of scenes, but.
- 38:15Yeah, I said yes, but the premature ejack scene is a it's
- 38:19pretty suss. Yeah, but it's brief and it's
- 38:22not it's, they don't explicitly say that he jacked off.
- 38:25Like if a kid was watching that, they wouldn't really know what.
- 38:27Happened. Did Jack off He came.
- 38:28Or came sorry. Yeah, but it's, it's, it's
- 38:32uncomfortable to watch that scene with your parents.
- 38:36I'm dizzy. Oh, see, that's why she felt
- 38:40bad. He's like a child.
- 38:42Why would a child say that? Why would you even think that?
- 38:46He's just slow. I know, but I don't know if that
- 38:50scene makes me feel sad. If it was a child, she shouldn't
- 38:53feel bad, it should be in jail. It's not actually a child is an
- 38:57adult with like a child like sensibility anyway.
- 39:01He gumps that's. A.
- 39:02So so you're agree you can watch it with parents?
- 39:04Yeah, yeah, it's got a Forward to Bernard part where he's
- 39:08banging his mom. What's your favorite and least
- 39:11favorite supporting character? I kind of already gave this
- 39:14away, but Lieutenant Dan, like, like I said, him and him and
- 39:18Jenny have the most. Yeah, him and Jenny have the
- 39:20most meaningful character arcs in the movie.
- 39:23He starts out as a hard ass army Lieutenant.
- 39:26He becomes a bitter cripple and then I'm an angry first mate on
- 39:30gum shrimp boat and finally becomes a healed person who's
- 39:34found someone to love and found meaning in his life.
- 39:36When he comes to the to the wedding, we really see a new man
- 39:41with a with a fiance. I've got a really deep cut.
- 39:46I was gonna say Bubba, but he's not really in it that much.
- 39:49Yeah, they don't delve into Bubba very much.
- 39:51Yeah, so I I picked honestly, I picked someone that I noticed
- 39:54more this time the drill Sergeant when he goes to the
- 39:57Army. I liked him.
- 39:58Into a female Omilami this guy is fucking like he's epic he's
- 40:04like you are God damn genius Gump.
- 40:06You're going to be the president.
- 40:07You're going to be a general one day, Gump.
- 40:09Like he's. Just you must have a high IQ of
- 40:11160 Gump. Yeah, he's fucking awesome.
- 40:14And he's coming for the crown, for Full Metal Jacket Drill
- 40:18Sergeant. Like he's coming for him.
- 40:20Like he's really good. Yeah, he is good.
- 40:22You know, I like him too. What's your sole purpose in this
- 40:26Army? To do whatever you tell my drill
- 40:29Sergeant. Go.
- 40:30Damn it come your God damn thing.
- 40:33Yes, that's the most outstanding answer I've ever heard.
- 40:36You must have a God damn IQ of 160.
- 40:38You are God damn gifted, Private Gump.
- 40:41Why did you put that gun together so quickly?
- 40:43Because you asked me, drill Sergeant.
- 40:45You God damn genius, Gump. Like, I love that.
- 40:48It's so good. I liked him too.
- 40:50I really noticed him this time too and he's only in two scenes,
- 40:53but he he does make an. Impact really stands out.
- 40:56All right, OK, who's your least favorite character?
- 40:59So listen, when I was looking, there's not that many people in
- 41:04this movie. No, it's not.
- 41:05That make like there's like 6 people in this movie.
- 41:08Yeah. So I I did a deep cut for my
- 41:10least favorite. It's it's Jenny's abusive
- 41:12boyfriend. Which one?
- 41:15The abusive one in Washington. OK, the hippie.
- 41:18Yeah, she it's just showing like her, her abysmal taste in men.
- 41:23This is the only relationship of hers we get more than a glimpse
- 41:26of cause we see other men that are clearly being abusive and
- 41:29shitty and throwing her out of cars and, you know, leaving her
- 41:33with black eyes and so on and so forth.
- 41:35But we get we get to see him for a for a minute.
- 41:38He slaps her in the face in the Black Panther Party and she
- 41:40immediately starts making excuses for him when she's
- 41:43talking to Forest. Sorry I broke up your Black
- 41:45Panther Party. Yeah but afterwards when she's
- 41:48walking with her she's like, he just gets this way cause he's
- 41:50upset about the war. It's like no no he slapped the
- 41:53fuck out of you in public. Maybe don't make excuses for
- 41:55him. So I just really hated it.
- 41:57And then she goes back with him to Berkeley.
- 41:59Like it just. It's.
- 42:00Yeah. It's like watching someone drink
- 42:02poison. Well, you know it's not going to
- 42:04end well. That's what it is right abusive
- 42:05relationships like that and being a parent.
- 42:07Sometimes you toddlers are are like that they fucking treat you
- 42:10like garbage. They throw your food at you and
- 42:14we something really sweet, you know, like ohhhhh ohhhhh and you
- 42:20forgive everything and then they fucking treat you like garbage
- 42:23again. Yeah, really toxic.
- 42:25We joke that our toddlers and abusive husband because like he
- 42:27has, he's effed both of us up intentionally and
- 42:31unintentionally. And they'll make him like a
- 42:33really nice meal and he'll throw half of it on the floor.
- 42:35He'll take him to do something really fun and then he'll come
- 42:38home and act like. An ass, mind you, he's only done
- 42:40that very few times. He's a really sweet kid.
- 42:43Oht he's the best. I love him but he can be a Dick
- 42:47sometimes. Yeah, abusive.
- 42:51Alright, what about you? Who's your least favorite?
- 42:53Least favorite for me, I'm gonna have to go with that fat guy on
- 42:59the bench when he's talking about like he runs Bubba Gump
- 43:04shrimp and this and that and that guy walks off the bench,
- 43:07starts laughing at fucking Forest.
- 43:09OK just mocking the guy like we were sitting next to a
- 43:14millionaire and fucks off. Because you wouldn't believe it
- 43:18if a guy was like, I'm Jeff Bezos.
- 43:19You'd be like, no, you're not. No, you just listen to the guy's
- 43:23story and then Forrest opens his suitcase and he's got a fucking,
- 43:27you know, Fortune magazine there with him and Gary Sinise on
- 43:32there with Lieutenant Dan. Yeah, I really like that picture
- 43:35of him and Lieutenant Dan. I was gonna say Bernard from
- 43:38lost the principal cause he's a dirtbag.
- 43:40Yeah, you kinda like that scumbag vibes.
- 43:43It was. So it was a tough call, but I
- 43:46mean, he did let him in the school after.
- 43:48So I have to give him that. He did sleep with his mom.
- 43:51He did. He did hold up his end of the.
- 43:53Bargain. And he got to have a normal
- 43:54education because of that. Yes.
- 43:57So. OK, cultural impact.
- 44:00Um, so Forrest Gump is heavily quoted and widely known as one
- 44:04of the best American movies of all time.
- 44:07It explores the AIDS epidemic, the Vietnam War.
- 44:10It tackles cultural issues like those living with developmental
- 44:14disabilities as well as physical disabilities.
- 44:17In the case of Lieutenant Dan Classroom, the movie has been
- 44:22judged for being too conservative and showing an
- 44:25image of America that is perhaps less than truthful and more so
- 44:29idealistic. However, we do see some very
- 44:34real struggles that people go through like Jenny suffering
- 44:38from sexual abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, becoming a
- 44:42hippie, protesting the Vietnam War.
- 44:45Like it does delve into some very real issues.
- 44:48So I I wouldn't call it super idealistic because we do see
- 44:52some some darkness in it, but we're we are more seeing the
- 44:56world through a more innocent lens in forest character.
- 45:00So I think that's why it comes off that way.
- 45:01It's it's like you said, we're seeing he's the one telling the
- 45:04story. Yeah.
- 45:05So that's why it's like that. Yeah, I agree.
- 45:08It's like I said, it's the unreliable narrator, right?
- 45:12It's his point of view. It's not necessarily what
- 45:14happened. Maybe half the shit he said
- 45:16happened didn't even happen. That's the thing.
- 45:19He's just from his point of view No, no, but some of the details,
- 45:24you know, like he explains that oht it was raining up, it was
- 45:28raining down it was raining sideways it was raining from
- 45:31bottom up, but it was just bouncing off the water you.
- 45:34Know, so we don't know what else he misinterpreted.
- 45:37Exactly. Yeah, you're right.
- 45:39Another interesting thing about this movie is Tom Hanks actually
- 45:43didn't receive an upfront salary, but instead he took a
- 45:46percentage of the profits. So he actually ended up making
- 45:49like $40 million off this movie cause he, he believed in it.
- 45:54And there's, there's lots of stories like that, like Toby
- 45:56McGuire had a similar deal with Spiderman.
- 45:59Yeah, where people just believe in movies.
- 46:01They take a portion of the profits and they get like wildly
- 46:03rich. Toby McGuire did that.
- 46:06Toby McGuire did that I think with the second Spiderman and he
- 46:08like he has, he has like a billion dollars.
- 46:11He doesn't have to work. I don't really know why he works
- 46:13because he made so much money off of Spiderman.
- 46:16Because he got money to blow. And my last point on cultural
- 46:20impact is the Bubba Gump restaurant.
- 46:23The film was so popular that it inspired the real life
- 46:26restaurant chain of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, which was founded in
- 46:301996. That's lit as fuck.
- 46:32I remember the first time I went to Manhattan, I saw the bubble
- 46:35gum sign and I looked at my mom and I was like, oh, from Forrest
- 46:38Gump. And she's like, no, that's a
- 46:39real restaurant. And I was like, are you, are you
- 46:41shitting me? It is from Forrest Gump.
- 46:44But they made it a real thing. Yeah.
- 46:45That's that's cool. That's power.
- 46:47That's how far this reach. Like, that's how well known it
- 46:49is. Yeah.
- 46:51So yeah, those are my points. What do you have for for
- 46:53cultural? Impact cultural impact, like
- 46:55you're talking about Bubba Gump. I I put that too.
- 46:57And part of me is like, why didn't they go, you know, full
- 47:02send on the marketing for this movie?
- 47:04So for example, um, run Forest run, everybody says it.
- 47:10Why hasn't Nike? They have the shoe, the Nike
- 47:13Cortez. They have the Forrest Gump
- 47:15edition, which is the white with the red check and then the blue
- 47:20stripe on the sole. Like, why haven't they done a
- 47:23Tom Hanks commercial for the Super Bowl for that shoe or a
- 47:26special edition of the shoe where you know Tom Hanks is
- 47:30wearing it and it's like they make multiple versions of it.
- 47:34You know, they make the Jenny, they make the Baba.
- 47:36Like that would be so cool. They would fucking sell out like
- 47:39crazy. Like Nike, he's never done
- 47:41anything like that before. I know.
- 47:43No, they have. What do you mean?
- 47:44They have done it with other artists.
- 47:46They've done it with so many different people.
- 47:47Yeah, but not with movie like with multiple movie characters
- 47:50or with a movie. They've done it with Singer
- 47:52should and should Fletes. And what Nike, if you're hearing
- 47:55this when you do it, I want some percentage points on that on the
- 47:58back end. Because cut that out podcast, we
- 48:01can't be giving away these $1,000,000 ideas.
- 48:03For free. It's in the podcast, so they'll
- 48:05give me my peace. Patent pending.
- 48:07Yeah, no, seriously. Like, you guys, you have all
- 48:10this opportunity to make so much more money and just, like, use
- 48:14the cachet from Forrest Gump and Tom Hanks to make something
- 48:20really cool happen. You know?
- 48:21I don't understand why, but now there's a lot of cultural impact
- 48:25for this movie. The quotes, like I said, life
- 48:27cycle, Box of chocolates, Run Forest, run.
- 48:31The shoes. I mean, I bought the shoes
- 48:33because they're wicked. Yeah, you say.
- 48:36You've said before that they're. The most comfortable shoes I've
- 48:38ever worn. And the fact that yeah, he ran
- 48:40three years. Little bit unreasonable, but you
- 48:45could probably run three years in those shoes.
- 48:47I well, when Jenny gets them for him, he says he got, she got me
- 48:51the best gift you could ever get.
- 48:52Anyone. I I went to New York like 2-3
- 48:55years ago for work and I was wearing those shoes and I walked
- 48:59about 75,000 steps in about 48 hours.
- 49:05You did. Yeah, 48 maybe.
- 49:06No, no, sorry. 72 hours in three days.
- 49:09I I I walked about 75,000 steps and my feet were feeling great.
- 49:16So those shoes are fire. You just bought me a pair of
- 49:21those too. I did.
- 49:22I bought you the big. Pink Blend, yeah, which I'm
- 49:24excited to wear once, once it stops being so disgusting
- 49:27outside. Yeah.
- 49:29So yeah, that's my cultural impact.
- 49:31What about the soundtrack? What are you saying?
- 49:34So we talked about this moment before, but like the triumph,
- 49:38the triumphant Symphony, when Forrest runs away from the
- 49:40bullies for the first time and breaks out of his braces, It
- 49:44just it it like makes the emotions happen.
- 49:47Like, it just strikes something in you.
- 49:49Yeah. So I I love that.
- 49:51And, and I just love how the music takes us through the
- 49:54decades and history. And we get Hound Dog with Forest
- 49:58Dancing with Elvis. Yeah, we get Blowing in the Wind
- 50:04sung by Jenny. It's a beautiful song.
- 50:06I mean, that scene is upsetting, but this song is beautiful and
- 50:08her voice is actually very beautiful.
- 50:10We get Fortunate Son playing when Forrest and Bubba arrive in
- 50:13Vietnam and that song has just become like a Vietnam.
- 50:17Song. Now everybody uses it.
- 50:19Because it's such a perfect choice that this movie made.
- 50:23And of course, Sweet Home Alabama plays when Forrest and
- 50:25Jenny dance at home because they're if they're in Alabama.
- 50:29Yeah, don't forget running on empty when he's running for
- 50:32three years. Yeah, there's so many good song
- 50:35choices. The soundtrack is amazing, yeah,
- 50:38and it gives the movie a lot of life and emotion.
- 50:41Yeah, I, I said this. The needle drops for this movie
- 50:44rivals Scorsese. Scorsese will pick songs that go
- 50:48with the scene, but they don't really like the lyrics.
- 50:52Don't like, you know, give me shelter Layla.
- 50:57He uses them in weird parts. They don't really go with the
- 51:01scene, but they fit really well. But this guy Zemeckis is like
- 51:06running on empty for the three-year running song.
- 51:09Like it's very on the nose, but it works.
- 51:11It's very on the nose, but it. Works.
- 51:13I know that you would appreciate that because Dad actually makes
- 51:16a lot of compilations of of our kids to music and you love to
- 51:21have. You just got to have the right
- 51:24songs. You like to have the part of the
- 51:26song which is saying with the person's doing so kind of hard
- 51:29to explain, but there's one song he did that goes Walk with me,
- 51:33Susie Lee, through there and then through and in that part of
- 51:36the song, it shows our son walking.
- 51:38Yeah. And you do that a lot.
- 51:40You'll like have it like. I don't know how you make it hit
- 51:43so perfectly, but that's I I know that you appreciate that
- 51:46because that's kind of editing you use.
- 51:48It's very. The literal, yes.
- 51:52If there's something about eating, you'll show our son
- 51:54eating. If there's something about
- 51:55running, you'll show a part where he's running.
- 51:56Yeah. And it, it, it fits so well.
- 51:59And it I think it's really impressive that you're able to
- 52:01do that. Listen, my brain works in a
- 52:03weird way. So we'll have like a bunch of
- 52:06videos of the kids or whatever, you know, a trip and I'll look
- 52:10at the clips and then my brain will just play back music in my
- 52:15head that goes with the clips and I, I can't, it's just like,
- 52:18it's weird. Call it a sixth sense or
- 52:23something. It's just some, it's like a, I
- 52:25don't know. You can't.
- 52:26You picked some some bangers. But anyway, I was just
- 52:28complimenting Dad's editing. But I appreciate it in the same
- 52:31way that this movie uses very literal parts of songs to
- 52:36express what's happening in the movie, but it also hits you in
- 52:39the emotions. It gets you feeling a certain
- 52:41way based based on the. Music being played?
- 52:43Yeah, the the soundtrack and the score, it's all done by Alan
- 52:46Silvestri. He also did Predator, so the
- 52:48guys got some range because Predator score is amazing.
- 52:52That's crazy. No, no, no.
- 52:55So good. But yeah, I said this.
- 52:57This. The main theme of this movie is
- 52:59emotional, emotional damage. Emotional damage.
- 53:03It's also happy like like the Sweet Home Alabama where he's
- 53:06dancing with Jenny in the living room.
- 53:08Like I know, but I'm talking, I'm not that that's a song.
- 53:10I'm talking about the the the main theme.
- 53:13Ohe actual theme, Yeah. Theme is because they have
- 53:15different variations of it, the triumphant one, the sad one, the
- 53:18opening sequence. It's really emotional damage.
- 53:23And it's so 90s, it's so nostalgic.
- 53:26It is because. They don't do that.
- 53:27Anymore, it hasn't aged a day. It hasn't.
- 53:30It hasn't. It still hits.
- 53:32It still fits. Perfectly and it works so well.
- 53:34Yeah, I agree. OK, who gets a spin off if
- 53:37anyone? You go first.
- 53:39What do you want for a spin off? You might be mad because it
- 53:42might be a very similar 1. So I got the the Lieutenant Dan
- 53:46movie, The prequel. About him being in Vietnam.
- 53:51Well, Lieutenant Dan is a very complex character.
- 53:54He is, because we see what happens to him.
- 53:56He runs into him in New York after he's on that talk show
- 54:01with John Lennon, and he's got it.
- 54:04He's in a wheelchair. Like we see all that part and
- 54:07then we don't see him As for a bit and then he comes back and
- 54:11he becomes forest first mate and then he leaves again when he
- 54:15says that, um, you know, I, I thank you for saving my life.
- 54:20And then we see him at the end of the movie when he met that
- 54:23that. Does he leave though or is he
- 54:24working on the shrimp boats that whole time?
- 54:26Does he stay and? Work on the shrimp so he leaves
- 54:28out of our sight. Yeah, we don't really.
- 54:30Know what he's doing? I wanna see the Lieutenant Dan
- 54:32before he gets to Vietnam. I wanna see him as a kid.
- 54:36Like I want to see the Lieutenant Dan Forrest Gump
- 54:39movie where this kid how? You have some lost years where
- 54:43he's just an alcoholic and a New York apartment.
- 54:46I wanna see that, it would make for interesting movie.
- 54:49I guess I mean, I, I think what we see of Lieutenant, Lieutenant
- 54:52Dan is what we was, what we need to see.
- 54:53I think would get a little depressing if we saw it all.
- 54:55Hey, there's some sad ass movies out there, but they're good.
- 55:00My spin-off actually thought a little bit outside the box.
- 55:03OK, so I want a TV show about Forrest Mom running her boarding
- 55:08house. Because there would be new
- 55:10characters and stories in each episode, new people coming
- 55:13through. You could have storylines based
- 55:15on them. You could have them interacting
- 55:17with their regular characters. But is it like PG or do you want
- 55:20the X-rated version? No, no, it could.
- 55:23Cause she's sleeping everybody. She's not sleeping with
- 55:25everybody, she slept with one person.
- 55:27No, it would be like a period piece about the 1950s.
- 55:31That would be cool to see that. And there could be.
- 55:33There could be people from all over, there could be all kinds
- 55:35of different storylines, all the crazy stuff happen.
- 55:38The movie tells us that they had Elvis stay with them and Forrest
- 55:42taught him how to do the what's that called the song?
- 55:46I don't know what the dance move is called.
- 55:49Well, that's the yeah, the move is called the dog.
- 55:52But yeah, like, that's just one small story.
- 55:55Like there could be all kinds of people from all kinds of
- 55:57different walks of life staying with them, and they could have
- 55:59all kinds of different storylines revolving around
- 56:01that. I think it would be really
- 56:02interesting. It would have to be super high
- 56:04budget though because it would be a period piece.
- 56:07Uh, yeah. I mean, it's not.
- 56:09That as a show or. A mini series, 1800s.
- 56:11It's just some old timey clothes, those houses.
- 56:14There's a dime a dozen in the US, so it should be easy.
- 56:17I think I think it could be a cool show would be alright.
- 56:20What's your double feature? You go first for this one.
- 56:23So I have two. One of them is Molly's Game has
- 56:28a similar feeling of someone narrating their life and then
- 56:32focusing in on the present era. Narration also banger movie.
- 56:36Yeah, it is a banger movie, but it's the same thing.
- 56:38She's telling what happened to her and then it it it comes out
- 56:42and braids into her current life.
- 56:44And that stop is the Forrest Gump.
- 56:46He tells his life story and then he goes and meets Jenny, and
- 56:48then it becomes his current life.
- 56:50OK, so I Yeah. So I like that.
- 56:52So I think that they're. Kind of very similar movies
- 56:54though. Yeah, they're similar in the way
- 56:56it's being told, but they stories are completely, wildly
- 56:59different. So you get, you know, a little
- 57:00bit of everything. And then also the burbs.
- 57:03Just because I love me. Sometimes you should.
- 57:04Yeah, the burbs. I would do some more.
- 57:06That's a great movie. Great movie.
- 57:09So I got double feature. Well, triple feature really.
- 57:12So Castaway right after this, OK, because of that thing, that
- 57:17quote you said, have you seen castaway?
- 57:20It's like Forrest Gump on an island.
- 57:23That's from Bridesmaids. That's not mine.
- 57:25OK, it's really funny because it's true.
- 57:27Same. Direction Castaway just came in
- 57:29on the Netflix. It's great.
- 57:30Have you seen it? It's like Forrest Gump on an
- 57:32island. It's the same director.
- 57:35Oh my God. Is it?
- 57:36Yeah. You didn't know.
- 57:37That I think you actually have told.
- 57:38Me that but also low key double feeds for this Forrest Gump and
- 57:43Waterboy they both play. Football fucked.
- 57:46Up. They're both from the South and
- 57:49they're both fucking stupid. OHS you take that back?
- 57:52Why Boris is not stupid? Stupid is stupid is as stupid
- 57:56does. He's got IQ fucking 75.
- 58:00OK, calm down. Wow.
- 58:02Anyways, that's my double feature.
- 58:04That's that's ridiculous. What you don't like?
- 58:07It you said triple feature. Yeah, Yeah, OK.
- 58:11I'd start with Waterboy, then I would go to Forrest Gump, then I
- 58:15would go to Castaway. Castaway is actually kind of
- 58:18locus lap like or Loki. Slap and they both said.
- 58:21Mom said. Mom said like mom said this.
- 58:23Mom said that. Yeah, Before Stump is a far
- 58:25better movie. Waterboy is fucking good.
- 58:29No, it's not. It's not.
- 58:32It's not love Spyder, OK, It's really.
- 58:34Good. Yeah, Rob Schneider also did the
- 58:36animal, so let's just move on. Fair enough.
- 58:41OK, laughing at a funeral. This is the segment where it's a
- 58:45scene that isn't supposed to be funny, but you can't help but
- 58:48laugh and it's kind of uncomfortable sometimes.
- 58:51So I have like, like, like I was saying earlier, yeah, this movie
- 58:56is intentionally and unintentionally funny.
- 58:58Yeah. So there are parts that are
- 59:00supposed to be funny, but these are parts that weren't
- 59:02necessarily supposed to be funny.
- 59:03OK. So I love Lieutenant Diane Asque
- 59:06Mean when he brings his ice cream, then he puts it directly
- 59:09into the bedpan. He's eating two of them.
- 59:11No, he's eating one of. Them.
- 59:13Yeah, there was really two. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:15Well, because he said the best part about being in the informer
- 59:17was all the ice cream you could eat.
- 59:19The only good thing about being wounded in the buttocks is it
- 59:23ice cream. They gave me all the ice cream I
- 59:26could eat and guess what? A good friend of mine was in the
- 59:30bed right next door. Did it die?
- 59:35I got you some ice cream, Diane. Ice cream.
- 59:48Yeah, and then also she tastes like cigarettes.
- 59:52Oht long legs, Lenore. Yeah, and cunning Carla.
- 59:56Yeah, and there's so mean. The hookers.
- 59:59Yeah. Are they hookers?
- 1:00:00They're hookers, Yeah. I don't think they're hookers.
- 1:00:02I think they're. Like they're hookers.
- 1:00:05There he was, paying them to be. There 100% of their hookers,
- 1:00:07huh? Yeah.
- 1:00:08I don't. OK, Well, anyway, she tastes
- 1:00:11like cigarettes. Yeah.
- 1:00:13You you do it. I can't do it as Good to see
- 1:00:14you. She tastes like cigarettes.
- 1:00:18You go ahead. OK, so I mean, the main main
- 1:00:22scene for me is forest bus nut on the roommates robe.
- 1:00:26That scene supposed to be a little bit funny.
- 1:00:30It's a little bit sad. It's a little bit, you know.
- 1:00:32Uncomfortable. But I think it's really funny
- 1:00:36because of the way he like he, he's kind of looking away and
- 1:00:40then she takes her bra off and he he puts, she puts his hand on
- 1:00:45her boob. And then he said, oh, just the
- 1:00:48noise that Tom Hanks makes is really funny.
- 1:00:50And he's like, dizzy, like, OK. And then anyway, it's just, I
- 1:00:57think it's really funny. Yeah.
- 1:00:59Unintentional comedy just anytime for us just starts
- 1:01:03swinging at people like throwing punches.
- 1:01:06It's really funny cause he really does hate makers like he
- 1:01:10he, you know what haymaker is? Is that when you take someone
- 1:01:12right? In the face when you crank the
- 1:01:14punch really far back and if you miss like you're going to break
- 1:01:17your hand. But he just like throwing
- 1:01:20punches like super hard. The scene where you know, the
- 1:01:25doctors, you know, telling him that his backs is crooked as a
- 1:01:29politician. It's it's not, I don't know if
- 1:01:33it's supposed to be funny, but it.
- 1:01:34Feels like sad scenes though. That scene but sad.
- 1:01:37It's unintentional and also like the KKK thing, I can't tell if
- 1:01:41that's supposed to be funny. It is just see like Tom Hanks
- 1:01:43dressed as a click on. Cause he doesn't understand.
- 1:01:45He said they were acting like ghosts or Spooks or something.
- 1:01:48He doesn't understand what they were.
- 1:01:49And is he saying it to a black? Can't tell if it's supposed to
- 1:01:52be intentional. It is.
- 1:01:53It's. Supposed to.
- 1:01:54And then at the end of the movie where he meets Little Forest is
- 1:01:58that he's got a dad named Forrest too.
- 1:02:01You know, like that part, It's really funny.
- 1:02:03Like, are you fucking serious, guy?
- 1:02:05You don't get it. You gotta dad in Empires too.
- 1:02:08Well, the the movie is like a bit of a comedy in in some ways.
- 1:02:11But yeah, there are those moments like when Lieutenant
- 1:02:13Dans wheelchair slides backwards into traffic and force like
- 1:02:17Lieutenant Dan and runs after him.
- 1:02:19Like there's just like those moments that it's like, am I
- 1:02:21supposed to laugh? Is that funny?
- 1:02:24Or yeah, it kind of makes you question it.
- 1:02:27There's a lot of that in this movie.
- 1:02:28Yeah, there's honestly, it's a laundry list.
- 1:02:31I I can't think of all the funny ones, but it's it's really good.
- 1:02:34Even the part where he goes above his mom and gives her a
- 1:02:37check for the for the Bubba Gump business, his share, Bubba
- 1:02:41share. And she's like, are you you,
- 1:02:43you, you stupid or something? No, she says are you stupid or
- 1:02:46something when it comes and tells her he's buying a shrimp
- 1:02:48boat he mails. Her a check and she passes out.
- 1:02:53Stupid is as stupid does. Yeah, well, you call me stupid,
- 1:02:57OK, Lazy Sunday vibes. Absolutely.
- 1:03:00Yeah, I I said yes. It's a super chill movie to
- 1:03:03watch on the laziest of Sundays. Yeah, and it's so familiar and
- 1:03:08comforting, like, and I like, I don't know if this is just me.
- 1:03:11I feel like everyone feels that way about this movie because
- 1:03:13it's so well known. I haven't met anybody who
- 1:03:17dislikes this movie. And and so much like most people
- 1:03:20have seen it so many times that it's familiar and comforting.
- 1:03:22It's the perfect movie have on on the background because you
- 1:03:26don't pay attention. You've seen it a million times
- 1:03:28and you sit and watch a few of the scenes.
- 1:03:30Yeah, I agree. And we have our our darling Tom
- 1:03:32Hanks, who's just so comforting and familiar.
- 1:03:35The one thing about this movie now though, and I'll talk about
- 1:03:39it later, it's just it fucking is something different now for
- 1:03:43me. It's a very hard watch for me
- 1:03:46now. Yeah, we're.
- 1:03:47Gonna not in a bad way, not in a bad way, just anyway.
- 1:03:51Movie Alias. So I have three.
- 1:03:54OK, I have green bow. Oh, just call it green bow
- 1:04:00because, you know, really know that could be anything.
- 1:04:02Sure, box of chocolates. OK, that's just the name of the
- 1:04:08movie. Just box of chocolates.
- 1:04:09Yeah, because you never know what you're gonna get, OK?
- 1:04:12And then also peas and carrots, because several times throughout
- 1:04:16the movie said we was like peas and carrots again.
- 1:04:18Yeah, that's a great, that's a, that's a great quote.
- 1:04:20Why didn't you? Why don't we put that in?
- 1:04:22I don't know I should have. But it's a great one.
- 1:04:24But yeah, they're always like peas and carrots, so I thought
- 1:04:26that would be like a cute name for the movie.
- 1:04:28But honestly, Forrest Gump is the most it makes the most
- 1:04:30sense. Yeah, it's about him.
- 1:04:32That's his point of view. I got Gump.
- 1:04:36OK, shortening. 2 Pump Gump. Ohm my.
- 1:04:40God. Gump and dump.
- 1:04:48Dumb and dumb the also I wrote bloomers the documentary because
- 1:05:01he falls back ass backwards into money and other bullshit.
- 1:05:04My God, yeah. This is like a boomers wet
- 1:05:08dream. Yeah, it's bullshit.
- 1:05:10This guy, this guy has an IQ of 75 and he's a fucking
- 1:05:13millionaire. Fuck off.
- 1:05:14Lieutenant Dan invests for. Investing in a fruit company?
- 1:05:19Yeah, and he's like he invested all money into some fruit
- 1:05:22company or something. Now we don't have to worry about
- 1:05:25money no more. I wrote Serendipity because
- 1:05:31that's what fucking this movie. This movie.
- 1:05:33Is that actually works? That's what this There's another
- 1:05:36movie with John Cusack called Serendipity.
- 1:05:38But this movie is Serendipity. Everything about it.
- 1:05:40Yeah. There's just a bunch of happy
- 1:05:42accidents. It is.
- 1:05:43There's some sad moments, there's some tragic moments, but
- 1:05:47it's a lot of happy. Accidents, yeah, but you're
- 1:05:49you're happy for Forest though, because we want good things for
- 1:05:51him. Yes, he's, he's a, he's a very
- 1:05:53lovable main character. Agreed.
- 1:05:56OK, let's get into our favorite segment.
- 1:05:58Shower thoughts. How long is this motherfucker
- 1:06:01sitting on this bench? They have time to tell his whole
- 1:06:03God damn life story waiting for a fucking bus?
- 1:06:06Are you kidding me? Is he on that bench for hours?
- 1:06:11Sits with like 5 different people.
- 1:06:14I think he just is, he's, he says he's lost, right?
- 1:06:18He doesn't know how to get to Jennys.
- 1:06:19No, he's waiting for a specific bus and the the bus he's waiting
- 1:06:22for isn't coming well. So I think maybe he's sitting on
- 1:06:25the wrong bench or something. But like, are you sitting there
- 1:06:27for hours? Depends.
- 1:06:28I mean, if you tell like it depends how he's telling the
- 1:06:31story. If he's telling you that in
- 1:06:32super detail, he's been there for a few hours, but you know he
- 1:06:37he's a dumb ass. Like what do you want?
- 1:06:39It's funny that you mentioned that, because actually nobody
- 1:06:42drops in our bomb in this movie. Yeah, well, it's not Tropic
- 1:06:46Thunder. Like they're not going to just
- 1:06:49throw our bombs everywhere. Oh my God, that's a good point.
- 1:06:54And it's for it's Nam, too. Yeah, and they mentioned Forrest
- 1:06:57Gump in that movie. Yeah, they do.
- 1:06:59Like Tom Hanks. Yeah, they do.
- 1:07:01He didn't go full. He's like, you went full.
- 1:07:04That's true. Simple Jack or whatever.
- 1:07:06That's what it's. Called.
- 1:07:07Yeah, simple Jack. Our son had a bad haircut at one
- 1:07:10point. I used to call it a simple Jack
- 1:07:12haircut. You're a Dick.
- 1:07:14That's so mean. That was the one that you cut
- 1:07:18for him? It looked a little janky.
- 1:07:20No, that was the that was called the World War Two.
- 1:07:24I'm going to war cut over the fighting the Third Reich.
- 1:07:28Yeah, so imagine when he runs into Lieutenant Dan at his
- 1:07:34wedding when he shows up with the magic legs.
- 1:07:36Hmm imagine he cause it's it's forest he just runs up to him
- 1:07:40and picks him up and just hugs him and spins around and the
- 1:07:44legs detach. OK, but that's like Scary Movie.
- 1:07:48No, but it's something for us would do 100%.
- 1:07:51I don't think he ever tried to pick Lieutenant Dan up when he
- 1:07:53was. He didn't, he just saw him and
- 1:07:55he was excited. But imagine he ran towards
- 1:07:57Lieutenant Dan and then he grabs him cause he fucking sees
- 1:08:00Lieutenant Dan starts waving at him, jumps off the shrimp boat,
- 1:08:05lets it crash and destroy a dock just because he's excited to see
- 1:08:09him. So I expect his similar
- 1:08:11reaction. And he's got the magic leg, so
- 1:08:14you just pick him up, hug him, and don't realize the legs have
- 1:08:17detached and he's just flying around with like, you know, his
- 1:08:21suit pants. Also, he ran for two years,
- 1:08:25three years, two months. Like the fuck?
- 1:08:28Yeah, that's that's a little crazy that he ran for that long.
- 1:08:32Nobody's running like that. No, but he did say he slept when
- 1:08:36he needed to. He ate when he needed to.
- 1:08:39I guess he stayed at motel. Didn't rotate rest days when he
- 1:08:43needed to. Like yeah, run everyday.
- 1:08:47I'll be yours. Why are you running?
- 1:08:50Are you doing this for World Peace?
- 1:08:52Are you doing this for the homeless?
- 1:08:53Are you running for women's rights?
- 1:08:55Or for the environment, or for animals.
- 1:08:57They just couldn't believe that somebody would do all that
- 1:09:00running for no particular reason.
- 1:09:02Why are you doing this? Felt like.
- 1:09:05Running, I guess he ran across the country numerous times so.
- 1:09:09Yeah, well, maybe he took some breaks and then they didn't talk
- 1:09:11about, but it kind of just seems like he straight up ran for that
- 1:09:14that long, that many. Years.
- 1:09:15Somebody did that I recently in real life.
- 1:09:18The actual like similar path that.
- 1:09:20Force guess they did a similar path.
- 1:09:23I think they wore the Cortez and the guy was dressed like forests
- 1:09:28to start and then he started growing his hair out.
- 1:09:31He had a bubble gum hat on. Did he get a following?
- 1:09:34I don't know cause I just kind of heard about it as I was like
- 1:09:39looking up things about this movie so.
- 1:09:42I guess I didn't know that I have something else about
- 1:09:45Lieutenant Dan. It's it's ironic that Lieutenant
- 1:09:47Dan cares so much about proper foot care in the war and ends up
- 1:09:50losing both of his feet because they get there and he's like,
- 1:09:52change your socks as often as possible.
- 1:09:54Keep your feet dry when you can. It's foreshadowing.
- 1:09:58Maybe. Maybe I never thought of that.
- 1:10:00Yeah, but he loses his legs, not his feet.
- 1:10:02Yeah, but his feet are part of it.
- 1:10:03He fair enough. Like he's so concerned about
- 1:10:05proper foot care because you can get like trench foot and stuff
- 1:10:08if you don't change your socks enough.
- 1:10:09Gangrene. And stuff.
- 1:10:10Yeah, and he ends up losing his feet, which is pretty fucked up.
- 1:10:14What do you think the feather means?
- 1:10:16I think the feather is like it's blowing around, just showing
- 1:10:19that life goes in all kinds of different directions.
- 1:10:22Like like your life could be like a feather.
- 1:10:23Like it's taking swirls, it's going here, it's going there,
- 1:10:25it's going up, it's going down, and then finally it settles
- 1:10:28somewhere. I like that.
- 1:10:30I, I just thought it was just telling us the movie, The fairy
- 1:10:34tale, you know, because you know, fairies fly around and
- 1:10:38whatever and like fairy tale movies.
- 1:10:40Oh, I thought it was kind of a metaphor for his life.
- 1:10:42I thought it was just the movies of fairy tale, you know, you
- 1:10:46said like, it's a very idealistic version of life in
- 1:10:49America. Yeah.
- 1:10:51So I'm like, it's a fairy tale. Like all these crazy things
- 1:10:54happen. It kind of is a fairy tale in
- 1:10:56some ways. Yeah.
- 1:10:58Well, the interesting thing that's interesting, say, for a
- 1:11:01fairy tale, Forrest Gump is based on a book written in in
- 1:11:041986. Yeah, but the book is far more
- 1:11:08satirical and more bizarre than the actual film.
- 1:11:11Believe it or not, a few of the things that happened in the book
- 1:11:15that don't happen in the movie are Forest becomes a a NASA
- 1:11:20astronaut goes to space. Well, that's basically Homer
- 1:11:25Simpson. He becomes a professional
- 1:11:27wrestler and his name as the wrestler is the dunce.
- 1:11:30Oh my God. He becomes a chess master and a
- 1:11:34musician. What instrument?
- 1:11:37I didn't find that, but the key difference is include for us
- 1:11:42being an astronaut with an ape named Sue being captured by
- 1:11:45cannibals. Oh my God.
- 1:11:46And Jenny in the book does not die of AIDS, but she actually
- 1:11:49leaves Fair Forest, takes his son and goes to be with another
- 1:11:54man. So I'm glad that, yeah, I'm glad
- 1:11:57that wasn't the movie, that. Quite a difference.
- 1:11:59But for. His son though, like they they
- 1:12:02matched the book OK. The forest in the book is like a
- 1:12:05savant. He's very smart.
- 1:12:08He doesn't have an IQ of 75. It was it was a little bit of a
- 1:12:11different person. They totally changed the story.
- 1:12:13Then they did, they changed the story pretty drastically.
- 1:12:15But the book, he's like a six foot six 240 LB like jacked
- 1:12:21savant who becomes an astronaut. Oh OK, so he has actually even
- 1:12:25more adventures. I think they what they did with
- 1:12:28the movie is very good because he's a way more relatable
- 1:12:31character. I agree.
- 1:12:34I agree. Why is Forest Mom single?
- 1:12:38I mean, she gives the principle the business like she's
- 1:12:42obviously. On vacation.
- 1:12:45What do you mean vacation? He wasn't on vacation.
- 1:12:49He's on vacation quotes. What does that mean?
- 1:12:53Why? Why are you doing?
- 1:12:54That maybe he abandoned them. Why?
- 1:12:56You know, I'm saying, why is she single?
- 1:12:58Why is any single mom single? It's hard.
- 1:13:02It's hard to find a man. When you I'm saying she gave the
- 1:13:04principle of the business, she can find a man, she knows what
- 1:13:07she's doing in the sack. I don't know if back then, if
- 1:13:11you had a kid, I don't know if anybody would have you.
- 1:13:14The Alabama. Like maybe my joke.
- 1:13:17Sorry to literally sorry. No, she's freaking.
- 1:13:20She's given the business. Yeah, she's a guy.
- 1:13:22He's screaming. He comes out sweating bullets.
- 1:13:25No, it's just cause he's a loser and because she's that good in
- 1:13:27the sack. We don't know.
- 1:13:30No, I would assume I actually found an interesting little
- 1:13:35tidbit. I know what he was going to say
- 1:13:38in the Vietnam rally speech I found.
- 1:13:41It online do. You want to know what it?
- 1:13:43Is. He said sometimes when people go
- 1:13:46to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs.
- 1:13:51Sometimes they don't go home at all.
- 1:13:53That's a bad thing, and that's all I have to say about that.
- 1:13:57OHC. Because he's talking about his
- 1:13:58experience, basically. Like the fact that Bubble
- 1:14:00couldn't do harm, and the fact that Lieutenant Dan went home,
- 1:14:03but he didn't have any legs. Forrest Gump.
- 1:14:05Forrest Gump because they were all like emotional after he said
- 1:14:08that because he he pulled from his real life.
- 1:14:10Experience. I didn't know that there was a
- 1:14:13real. Speech.
- 1:14:14How much? How much Apple stock do you
- 1:14:16think he had? How many shares?
- 1:14:20I I can't even begin to imagine because I don't know what they
- 1:14:24were worth nor what they eventually shot up to be worth.
- 1:14:27Yeah, I don't know what that point in in the company.
- 1:14:31I did look into it, it said based on a guess of what he
- 1:14:36could have bought with the money he got from Bubba Gump, if he
- 1:14:39was an Angel investor or something, his shares would have
- 1:14:44been worth 90 billion today. See, that is some boomer luck.
- 1:14:51Well, that's what it says. Boomers the documentary.
- 1:14:54Life, although in in our lifetime there was the Bitcoin
- 1:14:57moment where you could have that one guy became a billionaire.
- 1:15:00Very different thing. Yeah, but he got, he, he, he had
- 1:15:03$5 billion and he donated 4 billion of it.
- 1:15:08Can you believe? That Bitcoin is a different
- 1:15:10thing. Yeah, but I'm I'm saying it's a
- 1:15:12similar thing where you got rich overnight because that guy was
- 1:15:14not. Rich.
- 1:15:15Originally. So there's a theory online about
- 1:15:19Bubba Gump. So apparently when Bubba dies,
- 1:15:24it's there's the voodoo theory. So his spirit was angry and that
- 1:15:29he didn't make it back alive. So his spear did magic to to
- 1:15:33cause a hurricane and destroy all the other shrimp boats so
- 1:15:37Forest could make all that money and then help Bubba's family.
- 1:15:40That's the theory online. I don't hate it.
- 1:15:43Yeah. I mean, it's kind of, it's kind
- 1:15:45of weird. But shows his wrath.
- 1:15:48Yeah. Do you know who was supposed to
- 1:15:49audition for Bubba? Or who did audition for Bubba
- 1:15:53but they didn't get the part Tupac.
- 1:15:55No way. Can you imagine this?
- 1:15:58They're totally different character, right?
- 1:16:00Yeah. Tupac.
- 1:16:02What? Was Tupac kind of small?
- 1:16:03Wasn't he a small man? Yeah, he wasn't huge, but yeah.
- 1:16:07But I mean, Bob was. They make him look big.
- 1:16:10Bubba. Yeah, Bubba looked to be at
- 1:16:11least at least 6 foot or. Taller but yeah Tupac would been
- 1:16:15a different characters. Like ain't nothing but a shrimp
- 1:16:18boat party. Is that supposed to be Tupac?
- 1:16:21Tupac song Gangsta Party hit him up.
- 1:16:25You're a big Tupac fan, will love that.
- 1:16:28Wow, Tupac is the fucking best. Also, Joe Pesci was supposed to
- 1:16:32play Lieutenant Dan. No way.
- 1:16:36Can you? Could not have done it.
- 1:16:38Would not have. Done it justice, no, it would
- 1:16:39have been a different vibe though He.
- 1:16:41Would have been too angry. No, but it would have been good.
- 1:16:44Joe Pesci is. Lieutenant, I don't want any
- 1:16:47part of it. Or he's just swearing all the
- 1:16:49time. I don't want any part of it.
- 1:16:50I think Lieutenant Dan was perfectly cast.
- 1:16:52You stupid fuck, you supposed to leave me in the fucking my dear
- 1:16:56guy, you killed my destiny. You know, apparently the voice
- 1:17:00of Elvis was done by Kurt Russell, but it's unaccredited
- 1:17:04and unconfirmed, but it's widely believed to be Kurt Russell.
- 1:17:09Ohi didn't. It doesn't sound like, I mean,
- 1:17:11this sounds like Elvis. Apparently Kurt Russell does a
- 1:17:13really good Elvis. I could.
- 1:17:15Just believed to be. Him could see that.
- 1:17:17But of course it's uncredited and it's it's not confirmed.
- 1:17:20OK, so I gotta thing here, how many times did you cry in this
- 1:17:23movie? I wrote a bunch of times here
- 1:17:27and I can go down the list. OK, so.
- 1:17:31Because mine was 0. #1 Forrest and Jenny sitting on their tree
- 1:17:36as kids, where he tells us that she teaches him to read and he
- 1:17:41teaches her how to hang upside down.
- 1:17:44Now he teaches her how to dangle.
- 1:17:46Yeah, she taught me how to read. I taught her how to dangle. #2
- 1:17:50Jenny sees for us at the Washington Monument after his
- 1:17:55speech. You cried from.
- 1:17:56That I got choked up. Yeah, it's.
- 1:17:59A really just got little like it's so sweet.
- 1:18:03It's so girl. They both run into the friggin
- 1:18:06water and hug each other. Yeah, that's a really great
- 1:18:08moment. That's true friendship.
- 1:18:11Forest Mom telling Forest that she's sick.
- 1:18:15That seems. Really sad that scene broke my
- 1:18:17heart. Yeah, he he finds out she's sick
- 1:18:19and he like books at home. But if you watch the movie and
- 1:18:23you think about the scene in the beginning with the principle,
- 1:18:26it's a little. Just so bringing up the scene.
- 1:18:30But yeah, that seems really the whole sequence is sad because
- 1:18:33she's like, dying is a part of life and it's really, it's very
- 1:18:37sad. Yeah #4 Jenny coming home and
- 1:18:41being happy with Forest and he tells Jenny.
- 1:18:44Why won't you marry me, Jenny? Like they're dancing, He teaches
- 1:18:49her. She teaches him out of.
- 1:18:50Dance. Be a good husband.
- 1:18:52Yeah, that, that part really fucking sad.
- 1:18:56Yeah, well, it. Really shows but it really like
- 1:18:59you get like choked up because you're happy for him and then it
- 1:19:02doesn't turn out the way you want it to it's really sad well
- 1:19:05just. Shows how damaged she is because
- 1:19:07she could. She really couldn't accept his
- 1:19:08love. Bubba telling for us he wants to
- 1:19:12go home as he's dying in Vietnam.
- 1:19:14Oh, that's a fucking that'll that'll wreck you.
- 1:19:17Yeah, that part. You didn't cry from that fan.
- 1:19:22You too. You need some help.
- 1:19:23Bro, can I say a scene that wrecked me a little bit?
- 1:19:26Sure. So when Forrest asks if his son
- 1:19:32is smart or is he like me, that line specifically destroyed me
- 1:19:37because it's the first time in the film that Forest
- 1:19:40acknowledges that he is quote UN quote, slow.
- 1:19:45Mama, Mama. His name's Forrest.
- 1:19:53Like me. I named him after his daddy.
- 1:19:59He got a dad he didn't force too.
- 1:20:02You're his daddy for. First look at me.
- 1:20:11Look at me, Forest. There's nothing you need to do,
- 1:20:16OK? You didn't do anything wrong,
- 1:20:20OK? Isn't he beautiful?
- 1:20:28She most beautiful thing I've ever seen about is is he's
- 1:20:41smart. He's very smart.
- 1:20:45He's one of the smartest in his class.
- 1:20:47Yeah, I got that here. He does not bring it up at any
- 1:20:50other time. He he just mentions it at that
- 1:20:52time because he doesn't want his son to have to live through the
- 1:20:56struggles that he has. Experienced.
- 1:20:57Nobody does. And that's really sad and and
- 1:21:00like loving towards a kid he doesn't even know yet.
- 1:21:03Yeah, I got that here. It's a number.
- 1:21:06Sorry. It's #9 actually forest meets
- 1:21:08Little Forest. Fuck me up, fam.
- 1:21:11That whole part. The part that you just mentioned
- 1:21:14about, you know, asking is he like me when he puts his hand on
- 1:21:19his his chest, like his stomach and asks Jenny, Yeah, just that
- 1:21:23hand motion. Fuck Tom Hanks.
- 1:21:25You, you magician, you genius like.
- 1:21:28I know he really makes the emotions come.
- 1:21:31Out. I was like bawling my eyes out
- 1:21:33at that scene this time. And like I said, as a parent
- 1:21:38it's different. Fucking movie #7 Four is talking
- 1:21:42to Jenny at her grave and then he puts his sons letter on the
- 1:21:47tombstone. Get the fuck outta here.
- 1:21:54You're doing just fine. About to start school again
- 1:21:59soon. I make his breakfast, lunch and
- 1:22:04dinner every day. I'll make sure he Combs his
- 1:22:11hair, brushes his teeth every day.
- 1:22:16Kitchen. How to play ping pong?
- 1:22:20OK, he's really good. You go.
- 1:22:29We fish a lot. Every night we read a book which
- 1:22:35is so smart. Jenny, you've been so proud of
- 1:22:41you. I am here wrote you a letter and
- 1:22:51he says I can't read it. Not supposed to, so I just leave
- 1:22:55it here for you. That scene, Oh my God, it's like
- 1:23:00written mom on these tiny little, like cute little Kitty
- 1:23:04letters. Yeah, little kid left and he
- 1:23:06didn't open it because his son said he didn't want him to read.
- 1:23:09It, he said I'm not allowed to read.
- 1:23:11It Yeah, no, he's like Private. Dad's a dumbass.
- 1:23:14Like why did you leave me with this guy?
- 1:23:16It's private. It's really fucking sad.
- 1:23:20And then at the end, um, you know, the tree that they have
- 1:23:24the tree, the birds that fly away because Jenny always wished
- 1:23:30and prayed that she'd become a bird so she could fly away.
- 1:23:33Like I'd never noticed the birds until I remember the line.
- 1:23:37And then I saw the birds by other tree this time and I was
- 1:23:40like, Oh my God, this fucking movie.
- 1:23:42Just Water Works. I'm such a bitch.
- 1:23:45This movie turned me into such. A bitch when have you emotional
- 1:23:48because that's like kind of what we usually do in different as a
- 1:23:51parent segment. Well, this movie fucking from
- 1:23:53the get go. I don't know what it is.
- 1:23:56I mean, I know what it is, but it it's it's different.
- 1:24:00So let's get to it. Does this movie hit different as
- 1:24:03apparently? Before we get into that I just
- 1:24:05wanted to say one more thing about in shower thoughts and
- 1:24:07this isn't really a shower thought this is just I thought
- 1:24:10was it was interesting because my dad actually brought it up
- 1:24:12when we told him we were doing this. 1.
- 1:24:14The people that turned down the role for Forest?
- 1:24:18John Travolta. That would have been crazy.
- 1:24:22That would have been different. Bill Murray.
- 1:24:26Of yeah, it would have been big, big flop.
- 1:24:29Here's another flop Chevy Chase. Ah yeah, maybe.
- 1:24:34He can't play serious roles, maybe.
- 1:24:36And Bill Paxton were all considered for the role of
- 1:24:40forests, which ultimately went to Hanks.
- 1:24:41Biloxi could have done it. Yeah, I think he's.
- 1:24:43The only one on that list. John Travolta would have done it
- 1:24:46too. No, that guy.
- 1:24:47But it would have been maybe a little bit.
- 1:24:48Camp. No, he's got range.
- 1:24:50It's like looking at a mirror. Only not the next 100 years.
- 1:24:57If anybody gets that, just know you're.
- 1:25:00Gonna have episodes coming. That episode is definitely
- 1:25:02coming. Yeah.
- 1:25:05OK, um, so ask me the question again.
- 1:25:08Does this movie hit different as a parent?
- 1:25:11Do you wanna go first? You want me to go first?
- 1:25:13I'll go first. Definitely, definitely his
- 1:25:17different as a parent. This scene where Forest is
- 1:25:20getting the braces on his legs really affected me watching this
- 1:25:24because you never want your kid to be different.
- 1:25:26And it's hard going through something like that as a parent,
- 1:25:29especially a medical issue. Like once you have a kid,
- 1:25:32anytime you take them to the doctor or you get them checked
- 1:25:35or like they hit a milestone early or late, you find yourself
- 1:25:39in this position of being like, is my kid normal?
- 1:25:42Is my kid OK? Is my kid going to make it?
- 1:25:44Yeah. And you see Sally Fields
- 1:25:46character going through that and it's really fucking sad because
- 1:25:49she's watching potentially her kid not being able to walk
- 1:25:52properly. Yeah.
- 1:25:53That's devastating. Go run or do physical activities
- 1:25:57as a young boy. Yeah, so, so I felt for her.
- 1:26:00Her character in general is she's a great mother.
- 1:26:03She loves her son unconditionally and she doesn't
- 1:26:04want to be held back in life for any reason.
- 1:26:07She wants him to have the same opportunities as everybody else
- 1:26:10and he ends up having a spectacular life because she was
- 1:26:13so supportive and loving. Because especially back in the
- 1:26:16day, like if you had a kid that was special needs, a lot of
- 1:26:20times they didn't get the love and support that they needed.
- 1:26:23So that that really hit me different.
- 1:26:25And then for us discovering he has a son, this actually upset
- 1:26:31me. He missed out on his child being
- 1:26:33a baby. Yeah, he sees this 3 or 4 year
- 1:26:36old in front of him because he's been running for three years.
- 1:26:39I would be devastated to miss those early days with my kids.
- 1:26:44Yeah. My, my mat leave with our son
- 1:26:46was the best year of my life. Like hands down, yeah, the best
- 1:26:50year of my life to this day. That's very sweet.
- 1:26:53I had such an amazing time with him, such an amazing connection
- 1:26:56to my first baby. Like that's my little ride or
- 1:26:58die. He is my he.
- 1:26:59He and I have an unbreakable bond.
- 1:27:02Imagine missing those days with your kid.
- 1:27:06Like, no, that that really upset me.
- 1:27:08So I know that the Jenny character had to do some healing
- 1:27:13before she could let Forest back into her life and to be the
- 1:27:15father to her son, but she really robbed him of some really
- 1:27:19special times. Yeah.
- 1:27:21I mean, it's she may have tried to bring him, introduce him
- 1:27:25sooner, but like you said, he was running for three years so
- 1:27:29you couldn't really reach him. I'm I'm hoping that that's why
- 1:27:32it took so. Long.
- 1:27:32I think that's why. Cause cause he he lost out on
- 1:27:35some really. Beautiful because she left.
- 1:27:37There's no way that she knew she was pregnant right away.
- 1:27:40And then she's probably like in turmoil.
- 1:27:42Do I keep it? Do I not?
- 1:27:43And then she keeps it. And then she's probably going
- 1:27:46through a whole bunch of soul searching like she's, you know.
- 1:27:50I think the love of her child and her being able to love to
- 1:27:54love an innocent child and and and raise them as a loving
- 1:27:57mother healed the trauma inside her.
- 1:28:00I agree. And she couldn't be with Forest
- 1:28:02until that was healed. Yeah.
- 1:28:05I agree but she cause she's she's a she's a different person
- 1:28:08when he sees her again but she could she could have let him in
- 1:28:12sooner to see that child as a baby.
- 1:28:16That's destiny, right? Yeah.
- 1:28:19What do you have? OK, so like I said at the
- 1:28:22beginning of this podcast, this movie, um, I was basically
- 1:28:27sobbing in a lot of the scenes and it's this movie hits
- 1:28:31different as a parent. It is a completely different
- 1:28:34movie once you have kids. Every little moment from the
- 1:28:38beginning to the end when he gets his braces on his legs,
- 1:28:43Yeah, he doesn't get a seat on the bus.
- 1:28:46Um, you know, those kids are chasing him and bullying him.
- 1:28:49The braces, he breaks out of them, you know, all these little
- 1:28:54moments of him, you know, hanging out with Jenny, having
- 1:28:58his best friend, all these little things as when you're a
- 1:29:03parent, you're like, how do I protect my kid from all the
- 1:29:07horrible, horrible things that this world has and horrible
- 1:29:12people? Because life is hard.
- 1:29:15And then there's people that make it 10 times harder.
- 1:29:18And when you become a parent, the the first thing you realize
- 1:29:24right away is that your vulnerability is now.
- 1:29:28It's always skyrocketing and it does not let up and it's
- 1:29:33terrifying. Yeah, you're on alert.
- 1:29:36You're on alert. Your kid comes out of the womb
- 1:29:38and you're like, how many fingers do they have?
- 1:29:41How many toes do they have? You know, Can they?
- 1:29:44Breathe. Are they breathing?
- 1:29:45Are they breathing? Are they peeing?
- 1:29:46Are they pooping? Yeah, do they?
- 1:29:48Can they hear? Can they see?
- 1:29:51Can they eat? Properly and then as they get
- 1:29:53older, you're like, OK, we're past that stage now.
- 1:29:56It's something else. It's, you know, oh, are they
- 1:30:00reaching this milestone? Are they walking?
- 1:30:02Can they walk? Is this gonna be something, you
- 1:30:05know, you're terrified. Is this child gonna have mental
- 1:30:07disabilities, physical disabilities?
- 1:30:10And you're just like spiraling. You can spiral.
- 1:30:12And the sad part is you can't enjoy your kid because you're
- 1:30:16worried. And you every doctor
- 1:30:19appointment, like you said, you take your kid and you're like,
- 1:30:21you're praying that they don't say anything.
- 1:30:24That's going to fucking scare the living shit out of you.
- 1:30:27Yeah, from the minute you get pregnant it's like that.
- 1:30:30Cause every ultrasound you're like, is there a heartbeat?
- 1:30:32Are they normal? Is everything OK?
- 1:30:34Yeah, it's the scariest thing ever, but it's also the most
- 1:30:38beautiful thing ever. And then as they get older,
- 1:30:42you're because little forests. And I'm like thinking about like
- 1:30:45him. And even when Forrest Gump, like
- 1:30:48Tom Hanks character as a kid, I'm like you.
- 1:30:50You don't just love your kid because it's your your your kid
- 1:30:53anymore. It's you start to love their
- 1:30:54personality. There's little quirks, their
- 1:30:56habits, the little things they do, and then they start to talk
- 1:31:01and then they start to say things and you start to love how
- 1:31:05they say things and you just become even more vulnerable.
- 1:31:10It's really, really crazy feeling.
- 1:31:14And this movie shows it. You know, you see the struggles
- 1:31:17that Forrest Gumps having as a kid and he gets older and his
- 1:31:22mom's a single mom and you know, you, you feel for her.
- 1:31:25You feel for him. And then he gets older and then
- 1:31:30his mom is sick. And the, you know, the scene
- 1:31:33where he finds out that she's sick is, I don't know, it's just
- 1:31:38anybody who loves their parents like that.
- 1:31:42And I assume most people do if you have a good relationship
- 1:31:46with your parent. But he fucking jumps off the
- 1:31:48ship, off the boat, the shrimp boat, and swims to shore to go
- 1:31:53see his mom. And then he fucking runs to the
- 1:31:56house, drenched in sweat. And then she tells them that
- 1:32:00she's dying and you start to think about, you know, you have
- 1:32:03kids, you start thinking about your parents mortality.
- 1:32:06And that's fucking scary because you start to see your parents
- 1:32:09get older and they don't do things that they can do, you
- 1:32:12know? And it's really, really, you're
- 1:32:16super vulnerable. So yeah, it fucking hits
- 1:32:21different as a parent. Yeah, that took you on.
- 1:32:24Just an emotional roller coaster there.
- 1:32:26It does, and if you look at it through that lens, I think
- 1:32:29anybody with a kid is going to feel that 01 more thing.
- 1:32:33Sorry, the scene that really broke me in half.
- 1:32:38It's not even the scene where he meets Little Forest.
- 1:32:40That part is really sad and cute and like everything all at.
- 1:32:44Once so when they watch partner and together.
- 1:32:47The scene where he goes to Jenny's gravestone and he's
- 1:32:52talking to her is really, really heartbreaking because the whole
- 1:32:57time this guy has been trying to, you know, he loves Jenny.
- 1:33:02He wants to be with her. He wants to marry her and be
- 1:33:05happy with her. And he only gets her for a very
- 1:33:08short period of time and then she's gone.
- 1:33:12And then he's now a single parent and he's crying to her
- 1:33:18and he's saying that he's the smartest kid in the class.
- 1:33:20And that part fucking killed me. And then he puts the little
- 1:33:23envelope on her tombstone from her son's letter to his mom.
- 1:33:29You know, you think about yourself, you go, you imagine
- 1:33:32yourself as a single parent or you imagine your partner if
- 1:33:35something happened to you as a single parent.
- 1:33:38It's super heartbreaking. Yeah, we've all, we've all gone
- 1:33:41to that dark place, you know. Yeah, and my intrusive thoughts
- 1:33:44were on fucking full tap. Yeah, and it was high octane.
- 1:33:48It was not the regular. It was fucking premium.
- 1:33:51Premium intrusive. Thought you loved the intrusive
- 1:33:54thoughts? When it was 94 octane it was
- 1:33:56like she needs premium dude. Premium, dude.
- 1:34:04So yeah, if you're a parent, if you haven't seen Forrest Gump in
- 1:34:08a while, watch it as a parent and bring your Kleenex box with
- 1:34:12you. Yeah, It's really crazy how
- 1:34:14drastically movies change. And just the things that you
- 1:34:17never thought of or really are never noticed in movies just
- 1:34:20become such a moment that emotionally rocks you.
- 1:34:24Like that beginning scene with Forrest getting the braces on
- 1:34:27his legs. Like, it was always just kind of
- 1:34:28like, funny, you know? And then watching as a parent,
- 1:34:31you just, you think of any time you've taken your kid to the
- 1:34:33doctor anytime you're concerned about them.
- 1:34:35Like, you know that feeling you have a pit in your stomach?
- 1:34:37Yeah. And it's like, or if somebody's
- 1:34:39ever said anything about your kid, like they had enough
- 1:34:42starvation and you're just like, huh, You know, like, yeah, it's,
- 1:34:48I don't know. Being a parent is is fucking
- 1:34:51terrifying. It's a trip.
- 1:34:52It's a trip. It's it's, it's beautiful, but
- 1:34:55it's also the scariest shit ever.
- 1:34:57And all you can try to do is just enjoy the ride.
- 1:35:03Yeah, and enjoy your kids as much as possible.
- 1:35:06And I think that is a a beautiful thing about Forest is
- 1:35:08he actually is. He's enjoying his son.
- 1:35:12Yeah. And he it it.
- 1:35:14He doesn't need to be as concerned as his mom was about
- 1:35:19him. Yeah.
- 1:35:20But because he he's, he doesn't necessarily, I don't want to say
- 1:35:25he doesn't have the capacity to concern.
- 1:35:26Of course he does. But I think he is a little bit
- 1:35:29more carefree as a character which make which makes this ride
- 1:35:34with him so unique. I think so, but you know that
- 1:35:36scene where he's waiting for the bus at the end to for Little
- 1:35:39Forest to go to school for the first time?
- 1:35:41Yeah. Like our little man is going to
- 1:35:43be going to school this fall and I'm going to be a train wreck.
- 1:35:46Yeah, I've, I've, I'm specifically not going back to
- 1:35:49work until after he's in school for a couple weeks because I'm
- 1:35:52going to be, I don't even know I'm going to handle it.
- 1:35:54That's what I mean. Like this parenthood and this
- 1:35:56movie. This should, this movie
- 1:35:58shouldn't be called. No, it shouldn't be Forrest
- 1:36:00Gump. It should just be called
- 1:36:02vulnerability. Emotional damage.
- 1:36:05Emotional damage. You've just called vulnerable.
- 1:36:09Vulnerability. It should be called that.
- 1:36:11Yeah. Because everybody's vulnerable
- 1:36:12in this movie. Bubba's vulnerable.
- 1:36:14Lieutenant Dans emotionally vulnerable.
- 1:36:16Jenny's vulnerable. His mom is vulnerable.
- 1:36:20Forrest. Forrest is vulnerable.
- 1:36:22Everybody is. Yeah.
- 1:36:24So with that in mind, let's let's rate this.
- 1:36:28Movie OK what are we rating this?
- 1:36:29OK, so how many Doctor Peppers out of 10 are you giving this
- 1:36:35are you can also give it 15 Doctor Pepper if you want.
- 1:36:38I have about 15 doctor Peppers. Um, I'm going to give it 9.5
- 1:36:43doctor Peppers out of 10. It's, it's almost perfect, but
- 1:36:47there are just a couple things that that make it a little bit
- 1:36:51less than perfect for me. And that's why I'm going to give
- 1:36:54it 9.5, yeah. I have a couple of issues with
- 1:36:58obviously the story, but it's a beautiful movie.
- 1:37:03I I can't, I can't give it a perfect one.
- 1:37:06I want to so badly. I'm gonna.
- 1:37:08Yeah, I don't know why I can't I. 9.8 it's getting a 9.89.8
- 1:37:13it's right up there with Goodfellas in terms of overall
- 1:37:17movie from A-Z. Classic.
- 1:37:20It's familiar. It's Tom Hanks at his best.
- 1:37:22Yeah, it's a great movie. It's fucking wicked and Robert
- 1:37:26Zemeckis is just everything about this.
- 1:37:28Like you got Gary Sinise. This movie made Gary Sinise into
- 1:37:31a household name in my opinion. Well, not for me, because I
- 1:37:35thought it was named Jerry the penis.
- 1:37:39Dairy Sinus seen as the penis. But yeah 9.8 I give it a 9.8 I I
- 1:37:46fucking love this movie even more so as a parent.
- 1:37:51And if you, you know, sometimes people just need a good cry.
- 1:37:54If you need a good cry, just throw this on.
- 1:37:57It'll give you a good laugh, but it'll give you a good cries too.
- 1:38:00Yeah, if you're put. No, I'm just kidding.
- 1:38:03Yo, you'll lower your fucking voice.
