Speaker 4: We're going to talk to the new executive director Festival,
• 2:04
Speaker 4: Zach Harrold, on the show today, and of course he's
• 2:06
Speaker 4: been on the show in the past, but when we
• 2:07
Speaker 4: first talked to him, he had just taken the role
• 2:10
Speaker 4: and was just kind of, you know, getting his feet wet.
• 2:12
Speaker 4: A matter of fact, I don't think he had even
• 2:14
Speaker 4: walked through the door of the office yet. I think
• 2:15
Speaker 4: he was just hired. So now that he's you know,
• 2:18
Speaker 4: he's been in the position for a while, a couple
• 2:20
Speaker 4: of months or so, we're getting ready for a big
• 2:22

• 2:43
Speaker 4: Danny Jones, he's going to reopen his restaurant on Courier
• 2:46
Speaker 4: Street in Charleston, and the gentleman who's going to be
• 2:49
Speaker 4: taking over, and now let me just state this and
• 2:52
Speaker 4: we'll let him talk about it in detail. Danny is
• 2:54
Speaker 4: still going to be a big part of the restaurant,
• 2:56
Speaker 4: but there's a new guy that it's going to be
• 2:58
Speaker 4: taking it over. And he joins this small the Jerick
• 3:00
Speaker 4: Construction studios. His name is Ben Noel and he goes
• 3:03
Speaker 4: by Bjay and he's here with us now, Ben Bjay,
• 3:07
Speaker 4: Benjamin you you over there? How you doing, man, Welcome
• 3:10
  Speaker 4: to the show.
• 3:10
Speaker 5: Great to be here, Dave, how are you today?
• 3:12
Speaker 4: So you're rocking the Kansas City Chiefs shirt.
• 3:15
Speaker 5: So that strike one Andy Reid fans?
• 3:16
Speaker 4: Stract Well, okay, all right. I like Andy Reid's Okay,
• 3:20
Speaker 4: I like the rest of them. And Andy is a
• 3:23
  Speaker 4: pretty cool coach.
• 3:24
Speaker 5: Course our tight ends getting married.
• 3:25
Speaker 4: I don't know if you've heard, really really they got
• 3:28
Speaker 4: They should really put that out there more often. Yeah,
• 3:31
Speaker 4: they really should. But appreciate you being here.
• 3:34
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 3:34
Speaker 4: We'll mention that Danny had planned to be here with
• 3:36
Speaker 4: us today, but Danny's got a minor medical procedure, a
• 3:40
Speaker 4: dental procedure going on right now. He's fine, he's going
• 3:43
Speaker 4: to be there for I guess opening day is tomorrow,
• 3:45
Speaker 4: rask tomorrow. It is tomorrow, all right. So I want
• 3:47
Speaker 4: to before we get into talking about the restaurant and
• 3:50
Speaker 4: how you bringing this thing back, we'll talk about you now.
• 3:53
Speaker 4: You've been in the restaurant business for a while, right
• 3:55
Speaker 4: about four years now, Okay, and tell us about your
• 3:58
  Speaker 4: other ventures.
• 3:59
Speaker 5: So I lived and worked in the valley, Kanaw Valley
• 4:02
Speaker 5: for twelve years. I was going back home in seventeen
• 4:05
Speaker 5: and there was a place in Kanas City that I
• 4:09
Speaker 5: grew up a little south of Beckley Poker Daniel's area,
• 4:12
Speaker 5: Plade Springs. Gotcha. Yeah, yeah, So I was going back
• 4:14
Speaker 5: home and you know, underserved area. Eminem Mark in Kanas
• 4:19
Speaker 5: City was an inspiration for us. We wanted to slice
• 4:22
Speaker 5: meat fresh and sell it by the pounds, so we
• 4:24
Speaker 5: started that way, but over time it just kind of
• 4:27
Speaker 5: organically went into the hot sandwiches. So we have become
• 4:30
Speaker 5: merchants Deli Grill, and we're opening Beaver right now. We're
• 4:33
Speaker 5: down there in the Kroger shopping Plaza, been open and
• 4:36
Speaker 5: going on four years in December. But it's been wonderful.
• 4:41
Speaker 5: Met a lot of nice people, and you know, I
• 4:45
Speaker 5: would talk to Danny along the way. I met Danny
• 4:47
Speaker 5: when I was up here. Can I tell you a
• 4:49
Speaker 5: quick story, Yeah, you do whatever you want. And I
• 4:52
Speaker 5: was here. I broke my foot one summer, so I
• 4:54
Speaker 5: go over to Saint Francis to get wrapped up and
• 4:56
Speaker 5: everything and put me on crutches and all I could
• 4:58
Speaker 5: think about was getting to the mall, on getting my coffee,
• 5:01
Speaker 5: my Starbucks. So, you know, I get my cab from
• 5:03
Speaker 5: Saint Francis to the mall, I get the Starbucks, I
• 5:06
Speaker 5: get my coffee, and I realize I'm on crutches and
• 5:08
Speaker 5: I'm holding this cup, and I'm like, man, you should
• 5:10
Speaker 5: have thought this through. And I look up and there's
• 5:12
Speaker 5: Danny and he said, can I help you? Can I
• 5:15
Speaker 5: help you? And that was the most sincere and I said, yeah, man,
• 5:18
Speaker 5: I'm just trying to get to the other end of
• 5:20
Speaker 5: the mall. I got my taxi waiting on me. He said,
• 5:22
Speaker 5: no problem, I'll walk you down there. So he walked
• 5:24
Speaker 5: me from it. And what time frame what was this?
• 5:26
Speaker 5: This was probably ten eleven, okay, so he was Yeah,
• 5:30
Speaker 5: he was still pinstripe suit and his all his glory.
• 5:33
Speaker 5: I'd seen him on TV a few times, and you know,
• 5:34
Speaker 5: I'd passed him in the mall, but just what a
• 5:36
Speaker 5: nice guy did not have to do that. So he
• 5:38
Speaker 5: walks me to the tidewater end of the mall and
• 5:40
Speaker 5: and help me get in the cab. And then the
• 5:42
Speaker 5: driver's like, is that Danny Jones. I'm like, yeah, man,
• 5:44
Speaker 5: so you know I would I would, Like I said,
• 5:46
Speaker 5: I lived like Bradford and Boulevard, so it was like
• 5:49
Speaker 5: three four o'clocks in the mall. I would go get
• 5:51
Speaker 5: my coffee in the mornings and he would be down
• 5:53
Speaker 5: there with some of the guys, and I would joke around,
• 5:55
Speaker 5: say he would be down there holding for and you
• 5:58
Speaker 5: know I would. I would set with those some mornings,
• 6:00
Speaker 5: and like I said, we became friends. I ended up
• 6:03
Speaker 5: moving back home and we would keep up. You know,
• 6:04
Speaker 5: I follow him on Facebook and stuff, but I think
• 6:08
Speaker 5: I texted him a month or so ago, and and
• 6:10
Speaker 5: you know, he used to say, I'm gonna come down
• 6:12
Speaker 5: there and show you guys how to make barbecue. And
• 6:13
Speaker 5: I joked around, said, man, when are you going to
• 6:15
Speaker 5: show us barbecue? He said, why don't you come up here?
• 6:18
Speaker 5: And you know I wasn't doing anything that weekend, so
• 6:21
Speaker 5: we we we set it up for a Sunday morning,
• 6:23
Speaker 5: and you know, I wanted to come up here and
• 6:24
Speaker 5: just see him. It's been a while. And man, I
• 6:27
Speaker 5: walked through the door and he said this could be yours.
• 6:31
Speaker 5: H So you know, didn't anticipate that, but you know,
• 6:34
Speaker 5: we kept having conversations and it's led up to this point.
• 6:39
  Speaker 5: It's it's you know, it's a great business. Like if
• 6:41
Speaker 5: you look at the reviews and the Facebook stuff, there
• 6:44
Speaker 5: was great fanfare, great product. You know, the business has
• 6:49
Speaker 5: a soul, it has a personality. It's him, right, you know,
• 6:51
Speaker 5: you go in, you see all that stuff on the wall,
• 6:53
Speaker 5: the lives he's lived.
• 6:55
Speaker 4: I told this story the last time we had Danny
• 6:57
Speaker 4: on the show. And I was down there having lunch,
• 7:00
Speaker 4: and there were some people that were just passing through
• 7:03
Speaker 4: the area and had gone on one of the Yelper,
• 7:07
Speaker 4: Google reviews or whatever, and they had they discovered Danny's
• 7:12
Speaker 4: and so they came down to the barbecue stand on Courrier.
• 7:17
Speaker 4: They had no idea who Danny Jones was. And they
• 7:20
Speaker 4: see this guy back there, you know, as you said,
• 7:23
Speaker 4: holding court even when he's you know, he's behind the register.
• 7:26
Speaker 4: He didn't carry that worked with him. And and he's
• 7:29
Speaker 4: back there and it's a room full of people, people
• 7:31
Speaker 4: waiting for a place to sit, and they just started
• 7:33
Speaker 4: looking at it, all the history and all the pictures
• 7:36
Speaker 4: that Danny has in his place down there. And of
• 7:38
Speaker 4: course these people don't have any ties to West Virginia.
• 7:40
Speaker 4: They don't they don't know this was what this street
• 7:42
Speaker 4: used to look like in eighteen fifty seven or whatever.
• 7:44
Speaker 4: Danny's got hanging up down there, and they were they
• 7:47
Speaker 4: were fascinated by the whole thing. And they didn't even
• 7:49
Speaker 4: have any ties to this area. And that's the allure
• 7:52
Speaker 4: of a place like that. I think a.
• 7:54
Speaker 5: Couple of guys tried the door yesterday and yeah, I
• 7:56
Speaker 5: went out and spoke to him there from down near Blacksburg,
• 7:58
Speaker 5: and I think they were on their way to Ohio
• 8:00
Speaker 5: to do I think he said bow hunting or something, right,
• 8:03
Speaker 5: you know, this was their annual trip, and they stopped
• 8:05
Speaker 5: by to see Dandy and get some good barbecue. And
• 8:07
Speaker 5: you know, I'll let them know they were a day early,
• 8:09
Speaker 5: but hopefully maybe we'll catch them on the way, grab
• 8:11
Speaker 5: a hotel room we come back tomorrow. That's exactly how
• 8:13
Speaker 5: it works. So you know the old way was, you know,
• 8:18
Speaker 5: Now people will pass through town and they'll look at
• 8:21
Speaker 5: you know, Apple Maps or Google Maps or you know,
• 8:23
Speaker 5: and they'll look for something unique to the area. And
• 8:25
Speaker 5: then you know, if the reviews are strong, and then
• 8:27
Speaker 5: you know, it tells a little bit of story and
• 8:29
Speaker 5: they'll want to stop by. They'll want something unique to
• 8:31
Speaker 5: the area, and hopefully we'll get some more of that
• 8:33
Speaker 5: in the future. Really just now concentrating on the operation.
• 8:38
Speaker 5: We're running the same exact play that he used to,
• 8:40
Speaker 5: same recipes, same stuff on the wall.
• 8:43
Speaker 4: How difficult was it to learn how to make barbecue
• 8:46
Speaker 4: as Danny does? Because Danny tells the story about how
• 8:50
Speaker 4: he learned it, and whenever he tells the story, and
• 8:53
Speaker 4: God bless Danny, I have to kind of keep my
• 8:55
Speaker 4: finger on the button over here. He's not going to
• 8:57
Speaker 4: say something he shouldn't say because it's as Danny Jones
• 9:00
Speaker 4: we're talking about. But he's told the story man about
• 9:03
Speaker 4: how the people that taught him how to do barbecue.
• 9:05
Speaker 4: How difficult was it for you to learn his process?
• 9:09
Speaker 5: He's made it very easy and very digestible. It's, uh,
• 9:12
Speaker 5: you know, I'm still in that learning process right now.
• 9:15
Speaker 5: He's uh describes himself as the consigliarity. He's our advisor
• 9:20
Speaker 5: of this organization, so you know he's there. Uh, he's
• 9:22
Speaker 5: leading the charge. We're just trying to absorb everything. You know.
• 9:26
Speaker 5: The neat thing is as you're learning, he'll he'll just
• 9:29
Speaker 5: start talking about something or just start telling a story
• 9:32
Speaker 5: or maybe give you a little little piece of the
• 9:34
Speaker 5: book you know that's coming out. But it's it's been easy.
• 9:36
  Speaker 5: It's it's uh, it's a lot different from what we've
• 9:39
Speaker 5: we've been doing, but at the same time, it's a
• 9:41
Speaker 5: it's a simple process, you know, and we're just trying
• 9:44
Speaker 5: to kind of stay consistent and make sure that no
• 9:47
Speaker 5: matter what time you come in there, you still get
• 9:49
  Speaker 5: that same.
• 9:49
Speaker 4: Man and you are going to offer the same menu. Correct,
• 9:52
Speaker 4: as you said, are there any changes at all? So,
• 9:55
Speaker 4: and the thing about Danny's was it it was a
• 9:57
Speaker 4: simple menu. I mean, it wasn't loader forward. I mean,
• 10:00
Speaker 4: you had the barbecue, and you had the chicken. The
• 10:03
Speaker 4: sides were always good. Occasionally he would do a soup,
• 10:07
Speaker 4: not every day. He would do some salads. I don't
• 10:08
Speaker 4: know whether he's gonna do salad. You guy's gonna do salads? Yes, yes, okay,
• 10:11
Speaker 4: God he was kind of Danny's not a big salad
• 10:14
Speaker 4: fan because of the time it takes to to prep it.
• 10:18
Speaker 4: But he would put the smoke chicken on it. And
• 10:20
Speaker 4: that's what I mean. And that's pretty much other than
• 10:22
Speaker 4: a bag of chips in a soda, that's pretty much
• 10:24
Speaker 4: the entire menu. Right, Well, did I leave anything out?
• 10:27
Speaker 5: You've nailed it. Pulled pork is outstanding, and the ribs
• 10:30
Speaker 5: of course correct. So we'll we'll we'll start with that.
• 10:34
  Speaker 5: And like I said, we're in a we're at a
• 10:35
Speaker 5: point now where we just want to make sure that
• 10:37
Speaker 5: we absorb everything and we can we can do this
• 10:39
Speaker 5: every day consistently, and you know, we'll treat people great. Uh,
• 10:43
Speaker 5: you'll be able to come in and spend some time
• 10:45
Speaker 5: with him and get some of this really good barbecue.
• 10:47
Speaker 4: And and and Danny is going to he's playing on
• 10:50
  Speaker 4: being there.
• 10:51
Speaker 5: He's going to be there. He's going to be there.
• 10:53
Speaker 4: He drifts in and out from Timetown, but primarily and
• 10:55
Speaker 4: I could use a busy guy still. Well yeah, and
• 10:58
Speaker 4: I think, uh, I think you are going to see that.
• 11:00
Speaker 4: The Danny is going to be a part of this.
• 11:02
Speaker 4: And the thing that I always thought was interesting about
• 11:06
Speaker 4: going down there for lunch was that if they weren't
• 11:09
Speaker 4: terribly busy, Danny would come from behind the counter and
• 11:12
Speaker 4: he would he would sit down there, you know, with
• 11:14
Speaker 4: and then a customer would come in and Danny, Danny
• 11:17
Speaker 4: would just be I gotta go wait on somebody. I
• 11:19
Speaker 4: hold that thought and he would go back turn this.
• 11:21
Speaker 4: Maybe this is give him a little bit more time
• 11:23
Speaker 4: to to to fellowship with the with with his people.
• 11:26
Speaker 5: He can't help himself, he can't help it. He works
• 11:28
Speaker 5: wherever he's that he works. That's going.

• 12:03
Speaker 5: through Friday. As we get used to the flow of everything.

• 12:42
  Speaker 4: a little bit.
• 12:42
Speaker 5: So like I said, we're going to come up here,
• 12:44
  Speaker 5: We're going to learn Danny's uh, Danny's way, and we're
• 12:47
Speaker 5: going to run that play. Wouldn't have it any other.
• 12:49
Speaker 4: Now, are you prepared for and I know you've already

Speaker 5: you know, because I know where it's coming from. He's
• 13:04
Speaker 5: nothing if not direct. I'll say that about it. Just
• 13:06
Speaker 5: tell me what I need to know.
• 13:07
Speaker 4: And he'll tell you.
• 13:08
Speaker 5: We'll go from there.
• 13:09
Speaker 4: He'll tell you for sure. Now I was looking last night.
• 13:11
Speaker 4: I know he was. Danny's quite active on social media
• 13:14
Speaker 4: and there and there. There hadn't been anything on the
• 13:16
Speaker 4: Danny's Barbecue Stand page since he closed, and we of
• 13:19
Speaker 4: course broadcast live you know, the day that he could
• 13:21
Speaker 4: close down there had to quite a tribute, quite a
• 13:24
Speaker 4: picture the walls of the We had a great time
• 13:27
Speaker 4: down there. So are you going to continue to have
• 13:30
Speaker 4: the social media presents?
• 13:31
Speaker 5: That's the goal. That's a big pin of it, just
• 13:33
Speaker 5: to just stay in the front of everyone's mind. But yeah,
• 13:35
Speaker 5: that's something that we hope to get back.
• 13:37
Speaker 4: And all right, I got a text here for you. Okay,
• 13:40
Speaker 4: any plans for football tailgate meal menus or watch.
• 13:43
Speaker 5: Parties near future? Near future watch parties might be a
• 13:46
Speaker 5: little difficult. It's not a lot a lot of room.
• 13:49
Speaker 4: To watch and look, you know what the again and
• 13:51
Speaker 4: for those of you that never went to Danny's, I
• 13:53
  Speaker 4: mean it's it's it's very small.
• 13:56
Speaker 5: Stand for a reason.
• 13:57
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 13:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was called a standard different from the house.
• 14:00
Speaker 4: And what I would find is is if you would
• 14:02
Speaker 4: go in and maybe you just go in by yourself.
• 14:05
Speaker 4: People would just say, hey, would you like to sit
• 14:07
Speaker 4: with me? I saw a lot of conversations, and I
• 14:10
Speaker 4: saw a lot of discussions, political discussions that we can
• 14:14
Speaker 4: still have discussions. By the way, I never saw any
• 14:15
Speaker 4: of them get out of hand with people that would
• 14:19
Speaker 4: just because it kind of it kind of forces closeness. Okay,
• 14:22
Speaker 4: you know, if there's only one seed available and we've
• 14:24
Speaker 4: got an extra seat, that okay, we don't know you,
• 14:26
Speaker 4: but come over and say with us. I saw a
• 14:28
  Speaker 4: lot of that.
• 14:29
Speaker 5: Like the old days. Yeah, you know, you get to
• 14:31
  Speaker 5: know people, and.
• 14:32
Speaker 4: And the sides. I mentioned the sides, and I was
• 14:34
Speaker 4: a big fan of the sides. I was your favorite
• 14:36
Speaker 4: of the potato salad?
• 14:37
  Speaker 5: Really?
• 14:38
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 14:38
Speaker 4: I like the beans, Yeah, the beans were good. The
• 14:42
Speaker 4: only knock and Danny and I had a disagreement about
• 14:44
Speaker 4: this one time. The only knock I had on is
• 14:46
Speaker 4: I'm a spicy guy, and Danny I would get here,
• 14:50
Speaker 4: which kept I think was Frank's red hot was what
• 14:52
Speaker 4: was the sauce he had?
• 14:53
  Speaker 5: I think?
• 14:53
Speaker 4: And when I would order the barbecue or the baked beans,
• 14:57
Speaker 4: he would see me take that and put it on it,
• 14:59
Speaker 4: and he would just.
• 15:00
Speaker 5: When you make that face he just shake his head.
• 15:01
Speaker 4: It's like I said, sorry, man, every everything, nearly, if
• 15:05
Speaker 4: other than cereal, nearly everything I eat is spicy. I've
• 15:08
Speaker 4: always done that way. My dad was that way. I
• 15:10
Speaker 4: like spice, and so I'm gonna put Sorry, Danny, I'm
• 15:13
Speaker 4: gonna put to I'm gonna put a little little hot
• 15:15
Speaker 4: sauce on it. Not because I just like a little kick.
• 15:17
Speaker 5: But that just I don't normally go past like Texas peak.
• 15:20
Speaker 4: Frank you now, maybe well maybe a little higher. But
• 15:24
  Speaker 4: I'm not a I'm not a Carolina reap.
• 15:26
Speaker 5: You still want to enjoy your line, I don't.
• 15:27
Speaker 4: I don't want to die in the process. I like
• 15:30
Speaker 4: some spice, all right, So you're gonna open tomorrow and
• 15:33
Speaker 4: everything's good to go tomorrow, you think, I believe so,
• 15:35
Speaker 4: and you'll be down there today is still whipping the
• 15:37
Speaker 4: stuff up. How much prep goes into that ahead of
• 15:40
Speaker 4: time that you don't people don't see because that this
• 15:43
Speaker 4: kind of stuff is you know, it does take a
• 15:45
Speaker 4: little I mean, everything's made fresh, but there is a
• 15:47
Speaker 4: certain amount of we got to get this ready to
• 15:49
  Speaker 4: go for tomorrow.
• 15:50
Speaker 5: Good amount, and in my opinion, it's the most important
• 15:53
Speaker 5: part of the whole operation, right, But yeah, a little bit,
• 15:56
Speaker 5: not not too bad. Uh, A lot of that stuff
• 15:59
Speaker 5: can he done morning of Yeah, you know what I mean.
• 16:02
Speaker 5: So you want to try to keep that balance of
• 16:04
Speaker 5: peak freshness, but at the same time have it ready
• 16:07
Speaker 5: for you know, potential rush. But a lot of that.
• 16:09
Speaker 4: Are you prepared for tomorrow? Because I mean, we've been
• 16:11
Speaker 4: talking about this for about.
• 16:12
Speaker 5: A month, so I to hold onto my seat.
• 16:14
  Speaker 8: I think.
• 16:14
Speaker 4: I think the Food Guide, you know, did a piece
• 16:16
Speaker 4: in the gazette about it too. So there's gonna be
• 16:18
Speaker 4: a lot of people down We're mighty do you need help?
• 16:20
Speaker 4: As far as you are you hiring people down there,
• 16:22
Speaker 4: You've got you get your staff.
• 16:24
Speaker 5: As of now, I think I'm good. I feel like
• 16:26
Speaker 5: in the next few weeks that's gonna that's going to
• 16:30
Speaker 5: be a need. So you know, if anybody may be interested,
• 16:33
Speaker 5: stop buying meet us. We'd be happy to meet you
• 16:35
Speaker 5: and take it from there.
• 16:37
Speaker 4: And the place when it comes in is going to
• 16:38
Speaker 4: look exactly the same. The picture's still on the wall
• 16:40
  Speaker 4: and everything right.
• 16:41
Speaker 5: I wouldn't have it any other way.
• 16:42
Speaker 4: All right, Well, here's another text. Will you take menu
• 16:46
Speaker 4: item suggestions for the future?
• 16:47

• 16:48

• 16:51
Speaker 4: the best of a low Thank you. We're we're regular then,
• 16:54

• 16:59
Speaker 4: may have to say I may have to call down
• 17:01
Speaker 4: there and say, can you send delivery boy Danny up
• 17:03
Speaker 4: here to bring me some lunch.
• 17:04
Speaker 5: I would bring it myself. We're there till six thirty,
• 17:09
Speaker 5: so you know a little later then, okay, previously, and
• 17:11
Speaker 5: I should make it a little easier.
• 17:12
Speaker 4: My wife and I were having this discussion last night
• 17:14
Speaker 4: because I used to get things. I live in Putnam
• 17:16
Speaker 4: County and I used to pick things up on the way.
• 17:17
Speaker 4: I said, well, I could see maybe a night or

• 20:46

• 20:47
Speaker 4: gonna be able to come down tomorrow because I've got
• 20:50

• 20:52
Speaker 4: I'm going to be jetting tomorrow the head out of town.
• 20:55
Speaker 4: But I'll be back, you know, late tomorrow night. But
• 20:58
Speaker 4: I plan on being there on Friday. I won't be
• 21:00
Speaker 4: their opening day, but I will be there on Friday.
• 21:02
Speaker 12: So I think I will be too.
• 21:05
Speaker 4: So this is the first time we've had you in
• 21:07
Speaker 4: the studio. We had you on when you first took
• 21:09
Speaker 4: the job. Now you're ready to rock and roll, man,
• 21:11
Speaker 4: you're ready to go.
• 21:11
Speaker 12: Yeah, it's been a busy first couple of weeks on
• 21:13
Speaker 12: the job where we've got our schedule locked down for
• 21:16
Speaker 12: our fall event and we're ready to go.
• 21:19
Speaker 4: Explain the concept of Festive Fall for people that don't
• 21:22
  Speaker 4: know them well.
• 21:23
Speaker 12: Fest of All started as a summertime event arts, dance, music, culture,
• 21:29
Speaker 12: and it was just it was such a success that
• 21:31
Speaker 12: the organization eventually decided to st start an autumn event
• 21:35
Speaker 12: as well, and that has just grown over the years.
• 21:39
  Speaker 11: I mean it's and it's you know.
• 21:41
Speaker 12: As as with anything back in the early days, it's
• 21:43
Speaker 12: probably ten plus years ago. Started pretty small, but now
• 21:45
Speaker 12: we're firing on all cylinders, have a lot of great
• 21:48
  Speaker 12: stuff on offer.
• 21:49
Speaker 4: All right, well, let's run it all down. I'll let you.
• 21:51
Speaker 4: You've got the schedule, so I'll let you just take
• 21:54
Speaker 4: it from here and tell Yeah. So the wats and
• 21:55
Speaker 4: the winds and the times and whatnot.
• 21:57
Speaker 12: Well, so Festive Fall start arts on October eighth and
• 22:01
Speaker 12: runs until the twelfth. I'll hit the high spots because
• 22:04
Speaker 12: we got so much stuff going on. If people want
• 22:06
Speaker 12: to see the full schedule, they can go to Festival
• 22:08
Speaker 12: that's Festival with two l's Festival Charleston dot com. But
• 22:14
Speaker 12: we're gonna kick things off with a full moon drum
• 22:18
Speaker 12: circle on what we're calling Festifall Eve on Tuesday, October
• 22:22
Speaker 12: the seventh. Bring a drum and bang it under the
• 22:26
Speaker 12: full moon. We get going in ernest though, the next night,
• 22:29
Speaker 12: on Wednesday, October the eighth, with Jeff Shirley's Three Things
• 22:34
Speaker 12: the show. This time he's gonna have Bob Thompson, the
• 22:37
Speaker 12: pianist for Mountain Stage, the Clay Centers astrophysicist Shannon Silverman.
• 22:43
Speaker 11: Did you know the Clay Center had an astrophysicist?
• 22:45
Speaker 4: Actually I did, Oh you did, Okay, but I I've
• 22:49
Speaker 4: never met the person, but actually yeah, I did.
• 22:51
Speaker 12: And community organizer Mavery Davis. They're going to be his
• 22:55
Speaker 12: guests on that show and talking about where they got started.
• 22:58
Speaker 4: Well, and I'll tell you them and just jump in
• 23:00
Speaker 4: on thus three things if you've never If you've never
• 23:02
Speaker 4: seen it, Jeff surely had me do it. I guess
• 23:05
Speaker 4: about a year or so ago. And it's really fascinating
• 23:08
Speaker 4: to learn people's stories. And I was I was vaguely
• 23:11
Speaker 4: familiar with the concept. I had never attended one, though,
• 23:14
Speaker 4: I just knew people that had done it, and it
• 23:16
Speaker 4: was it was great. You know, they ask you about
• 23:18
Speaker 4: your I mean, at least they did with us. It
• 23:20
Speaker 4: was like your first your favorites and what was the
• 23:22
Speaker 4: future first favorite in future and and it's difficult, you know,
• 23:28
Speaker 4: sometimes believe it or not. And you always get these
• 23:31
Speaker 4: type a personalities like a Bob Thompson and any of
• 23:33
Speaker 4: the others that you mentioned, but sometimes it's difficult to
• 23:35
Speaker 4: talk about yourself. Oh yeah, And as somebody who spends
• 23:38
Speaker 4: now four hours or more a day of talking. I
• 23:42
Speaker 4: had to really think about, you know, because I wanted
• 23:44
Speaker 4: to choose my words wisely when I did that.
• 23:46
Speaker 12: What's really interesting is how people interpret that too. Yeah, first,
• 23:49
Speaker 12: your favorite, your future, every speaker. And you know, something
• 23:53
Speaker 12: I really appreciate about three things is there's no archive.
• 23:59
Speaker 12: You can't go on the internet and listen to the
• 24:01
Speaker 12: past episodes. It's a moment and Jeff very much wants
• 24:04
Speaker 12: to make it. If you weren't there, you missed, you
• 24:06
Speaker 12: missed it. And it's such a way to learn the stories.
• 24:10
Speaker 12: I mean, you just learned so much about these figures
• 24:13
Speaker 12: in town that you think you know, and you just
• 24:17
Speaker 12: get an inside look into folks that that you don't
• 24:19
Speaker 12: otherwise get a chance. And yeah, I'm sure it is
• 24:21
Speaker 12: really strange to be that person opening up, but it's
• 24:25
  Speaker 12: for the audience.
• 24:26
  Speaker 11: It's a really great experience.
• 24:27
Speaker 12: So that's a Wednesday night at seven pm. Thursday, we
• 24:32
Speaker 12: have an evening with the West Virginia Dance Company at
• 24:35
Speaker 12: the Culture Center Theater that starts at seven point thirty
• 24:38
Speaker 12: on Friday. The big ticket event that night is Magnolia Boulevard.
• 24:45
Speaker 12: They're a band from Kentucky. They play this mix of
• 24:48
Speaker 12: like Southern rock, Del Delta blues, Mayrkana. So if you
• 24:52
Speaker 12: like the Tudashi Trucks band.
• 24:55
Speaker 4: Or like, yeah, that's my music.
• 24:57
Speaker 12: Right three concert, Yeah that's my City Center start at
• 25:00
Speaker 12: seven point thirty. We also have that night on October
• 25:04
Speaker 12: tenth and evening with the poets. The state poet Lauriate
• 25:08
Speaker 12: Mark Harshman's going to be over at Taylor Books with
• 25:10
Speaker 12: the poet Jesse Graves and some others. Saturday kicks off
• 25:15
Speaker 12: probably the most popular event for festival, which is the
• 25:19
Speaker 12: Harvest Art Fair that happens at the Capital Market. And
• 25:23
Speaker 12: we've got loads of vendors over there, artisans selling their wares.
• 25:27
Speaker 12: We've also got live entertainment over there, kids' activities that'll
• 25:30
Speaker 12: run from ten am to six pm on Saturday and
• 25:33
Speaker 12: then twelve to five pm on Sunday over at the
• 25:36
Speaker 12: Capital Market. On Saturday, I'm really excited for this. Actually,
• 25:40
Speaker 12: we have both a walking and a bike tour downtown.
• 25:44
Speaker 12: They meet at the Lee Street Triangle there just to
• 25:48
Speaker 12: check out some public art, some architecture around Charleston. It's funny,
• 25:52
Speaker 12: I've lived here just about all my life and you
• 25:54
Speaker 12: take a tour like that and you're like, how have
• 25:57
Speaker 12: I never noticed this time?
• 26:00
  Speaker 11: Yep.
• 26:01
Speaker 12: And then that night City Center Dead, which is a
• 26:04
Speaker 12: Grateful Dead tribute show happening at City Center at six
• 26:08
Speaker 12: pm with John Ingram's band Dead Center.
• 26:11
Speaker 4: And I got to tell you, I was listening to
• 26:12
Speaker 4: Hotline yesterday and they had John Ingram and Larry Gross
• 26:16
Speaker 4: on talking about that. Yesterday afternoon. I was driving as
• 26:19
Speaker 4: I was driving home, as I was one of the
• 26:21
Speaker 4: people that was stuck in traffic because of that vehicle
• 26:23
Speaker 4: fire on I sixty four. I had a lot of
• 26:25
Speaker 4: time on my hands yesterday, but but I listened to
• 26:27
Speaker 4: to John Ingram and Larry Gross on Hotline with Weekly
• 26:30
Speaker 4: and Coop yesterday talking about this particular event. And you know,
• 26:34
  Speaker 4: I'm I'm not a huge Grateful Dead fan. I'm kind
• 26:38
Speaker 4: of a casual fan.
• 26:39
Speaker 12: I think there's about two albums I know.
• 26:41
Speaker 4: That I know the big ones, But you know, you
• 26:43
Speaker 4: got me excited to listen to of course, anything you
• 26:45
Speaker 4: know that that you have when you have John Ingram
• 26:48
Speaker 4: and Larry do you have all those guys together, very talentul.
• 26:51
Speaker 12: Larry of course founded best of all back in Theday
• 26:54
Speaker 12: John's on our board. I asked John if he needed
• 26:56
Speaker 12: a mandolin player for co.
• 26:59
Speaker 11: End of the day.
• 27:01
Speaker 12: I think you might cut me in. So moving on
• 27:04
Speaker 12: to Sunday then, as I said, we had the Harvest
• 27:07
Speaker 12: Art Fair from twelve to five pm. Over at the
• 27:10
Speaker 12: Carriage Trail. We have our Carriage Trail leaf Walk. There's
• 27:13
Speaker 12: going to be live performances there, activities for the kids.
• 27:16
Speaker 12: That's always really nice. People like to get out and
• 27:18
Speaker 12: enjoy the fall foliage. There is a living history display
• 27:25
Speaker 12: up at spring Hill Cemetery from one to four that
• 27:27
Speaker 12: day as well, where you have reenactors portraying notable Charlestonians
• 27:34
Speaker 12: who are buried up there.
• 27:35
  Speaker 11: That's pretty cool.
• 27:36
Speaker 12: And they're we're going to end it with Mountain Stage
• 27:39
Speaker 12: at seven pm. And that Mountain Stage performance is going
• 27:42
Speaker 12: to be a good one, of course. David Mayfield demand
• 27:49
  Speaker 12: of forgiveness.
• 27:50
  Speaker 4: I'm just so.
• 27:51
Speaker 12: I'm excited about East Nash Grass.
• 27:53
  Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm a bluegrass fan.
• 27:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, there's there's gonna be a lot of good stuff.
• 27:56
Speaker 4: He Now, if you didn't catch all that, as I said,
• 27:58
Speaker 4: I completely understand. And we're playing on having you back
• 28:00
Speaker 4: on as we get closer, you know, maybe the day
• 28:03
Speaker 4: or so before, maybe not day of maybe they or
• 28:05
Speaker 4: so before some people can make their plans. Give us
• 28:07
Speaker 4: that website social mediums.
• 28:09
Speaker 12: Of all the festival too, els Festival Charleston dot com
• 28:13
Speaker 12: and also all of these events are on our Facebook
• 28:16
  Speaker 12: page as well.
• 28:17
  Speaker 11: Facebook.
• 28:17
Speaker 4: And and this is really, as you said, by this
• 28:20
Speaker 4: time of year, everybody's already rushing into pumpkin spice weather
• 28:24
Speaker 4: right now. Okay, well it's in the mid eighties here
• 28:25
Speaker 4: in Charleston today. Fall doesn't officially start this year until
• 28:30
Speaker 4: September to the twenty second, so by this time we
• 28:33
Speaker 4: we might be in the fall. We'll just have to
• 28:35
Speaker 4: kind of wait and see. But regardless, that's you'll see
• 28:37
Speaker 4: the pumpkin decorations and all the stuff out there. So
• 28:40
  Speaker 4: it'd be a good time.
• 28:41
Speaker 12: I would saying yesterday that you know, West Virginia's beautiful
• 28:43
Speaker 12: in all seasons, but I really think autumn is when
• 28:46
Speaker 12: she shines. And I was going to say festival is
• 28:48
Speaker 12: icing on the cake, but it's really the whipped cream
• 28:50
Speaker 12: on the pumpkins spice Lottel.
• 28:51
Speaker 4: There you go, There you go. Percent I tell you,
• 28:56
Speaker 4: you know, I am I'm really excited about this, and
• 28:58
Speaker 4: I'm really excited about and this thing has been great
• 29:01
Speaker 4: from day one. But I'm really excited about the energy
• 29:04
Speaker 4: that you're bringing to this because I had you on
• 29:06
Speaker 4: the show, and again I was telling them, folks earlier,
• 29:08
Speaker 4: I think you had just maybe been higher, like a
• 29:11
Speaker 4: day or so, it was the day before and yeah,
• 29:15
Speaker 4: and so you really hadn't gotten in there yet. You
• 29:17
Speaker 4: didn't know where the restrooms were, in the paper towels
• 29:19
Speaker 4: were captas. Yeah, but now you've gotten into and so
• 29:21
Speaker 4: much work. You talked about your board earlier, Zach, So
• 29:25
Speaker 4: much work goes into this.
• 29:26
  Speaker 11: Oh my goodness.
• 29:27
Speaker 12: We have such an incredible group of people. I'm just
• 29:31
Speaker 12: the executive director, and we have a marketing coordinator who's
• 29:35
Speaker 12: fantastically talented. We have a dedicated board, and it's not
• 29:38
Speaker 12: just people who like to get together once a month
• 29:40
Speaker 12: and sent in a meeting, like working every day to
• 29:42
Speaker 12: try to raise money and develop programming and make sure
• 29:45
Speaker 12: this organization continues into the next generation here in Charleston.
• 29:50
Speaker 12: Because you just think about all the things that festival
• 29:53
Speaker 12: has brought to this town over the last twenty years.
• 29:57
Speaker 12: It's hard to believe it's been twenty years. But like
• 30:00
Speaker 12: things that I've seen in Charleston that like Shakespeare plays
• 30:04
Speaker 12: and musical performances and dance performances and art installations. It's
• 30:08
Speaker 12: just a little town like Charleston, West Virginia. You know,
• 30:11
Speaker 12: I'm been a fan of art since since I was
• 30:15
Speaker 12: a little kid. And you think about like Paris in
• 30:18
Speaker 12: the twenties with hemingwy Fitzgerald, and you think about like
• 30:21
Speaker 12: New York in the eighties with the art scene there.
• 30:23
Speaker 12: They all had the same thing in common. There was
• 30:26
Speaker 12: it was cheap cost of living, a passionate group of
• 30:28
Speaker 12: creative people and people who are willing to support that creativity.
• 30:31
  Speaker 11: Charleston has that.
• 30:33
Speaker 12: Like we are right for the one of those kind
• 30:36
Speaker 12: of movements. I firmly believe that we just got to
• 30:38
Speaker 12: let people know about it.
• 30:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, you're doing a great job, man, and I think
• 30:42
Speaker 4: you and your board, I think you guys are going
• 30:44
Speaker 4: to turn this thing out and it's going to be
• 30:45
Speaker 4: her way to texture somebody. So we should have called
• 30:47
Speaker 4: it festival. That is what it's called. It's just when
• 30:50
Speaker 4: we're on the radio, it doesn't translate that. Well, it's festive.
• 30:53
Speaker 4: The entire thing's fest of all, but this particular event
• 30:56
  Speaker 4: is first.
• 30:57
Speaker 12: To fall well What's funny is I was working the
• 31:00
Speaker 12: Charleston Daily Mail when this event, the Fall event happened,
• 31:03
Speaker 12: and it originally was called Festival Fall, and I remember
• 31:08
Speaker 12: sitting in the newsroom and we were all going, why
• 31:10
Speaker 12: didn't they just call it Festivall And then like, I
• 31:12
Speaker 12: think the next year, I think that organizing I didn't
• 31:15
Speaker 12: have any input the organization at all that I think
• 31:17
Speaker 12: the next year they were like, we should just call
• 31:19
Speaker 12: this Festive Fall. So, yeah, that is. It's kind of
• 31:22
Speaker 12: a tongue twister, but that is. That is what the
• 31:23
Speaker 12: event is called Festive Fall.
• 31:25
Speaker 4: And it's but the main website though is Festive All,
• 31:29
Speaker 4: Festival All Festival Charleston dot com and you're all over
• 31:32
Speaker 4: the social media as well as Zach. It's been a
• 31:34
Speaker 4: pleasure having a show today. Man, I'm excited about this thing.
• 31:36
Speaker 4: October the eighth through the twelfth and Charleston again. These
• 31:38
Speaker 4: things are going to be all over town, just like
• 31:40
Speaker 4: Festival is. So you need to follow the social media
• 31:43
Speaker 4: the website to see specifically where each event is going
• 31:46
Speaker 4: to be. But it's it's going to be four days
• 31:48
Speaker 4: or so of big doings here in the.
• 31:50
Speaker 12: City, five days and a lot of that stuff is walkable,
• 31:54
Speaker 12: so you can do one thing at the carriage Trail
• 31:56
  Speaker 12: and walk down.
• 31:56
Speaker 11: We're even going to have KRT shuttles.
• 31:58
Speaker 12: Going from the Carriage Trail over to spring Hill Cemetery.
• 32:03
  Speaker 12: I mean, it's it's just completely accessible. A lot of
• 32:05
Speaker 12: the stuff is free, which I love about Festival. Just
• 32:09
Speaker 12: you know, it's expensive to go out and do stuff
• 32:12
Speaker 12: with your family, but not when it comes to our stuff.
• 32:15
Speaker 12: We're trying to give it to as many people as possible.
• 32:18
Speaker 4: All right, Zach, I appreciate you being on the show.
• 32:20
Speaker 4: The executive director of Festive All and Festive Fall October eighth,
• 32:25

Speaker 4: no offense to anyone, But Bob Thompson is an icon
• 35:10
Speaker 4: much more than just a pianist for Mountain Stage. That's
• 35:12
Speaker 4: just one of the things that Bob Thompson. And I'm
• 35:14
Speaker 4: sure the Zach didn't mean anything by that. It's I mean,
• 35:17
Speaker 4: we all recognize the genius that is Bob Thompson. I
• 35:21
Speaker 4: mean we have Bob Thompson on the show. I think
• 35:25
Speaker 4: he's been on the show twice and maybe once on
• 35:27
Speaker 4: the network show, maybe once on a local show once before.
• 35:29
Speaker 4: And I'm gonna tell you, the guy just has such
• 35:32
Speaker 4: a presence. And I know somebody see around Charleston all
• 35:36
Speaker 4: the time. Very few people I'm kind of in awe
• 35:39
Speaker 4: of when I'm around them, but Bob Thompson is one.
• 35:41
  Speaker 4: Maybe it's because I'm a frustrated musician that doesn't have
• 35:43
Speaker 4: a lick of actual musical ability. I've tried, tried to
• 35:48
Speaker 4: be a piano player, tried to be a guitar player
• 35:51
Speaker 4: like my dad wasn't happening, And I'm just in awe
• 35:56
Speaker 4: of people like that, so that maybe that's why I
• 35:58
Speaker 4: get into radio so I can hang out with people that.
• 36:00
Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, that's one of the things Bob
• 36:02
Speaker 4: Thompson is known for. Uh and uh, but yeah, he's
• 36:05
Speaker 4: definitely an icon and Charleston, you are one correct about that.
• 36:09
Speaker 4: Coming up on tomorrow's show, can Not Candy, commission President
• 36:12
Speaker 4: Ben Selango's here along with the Vice Mayor of the
• 36:15
Speaker 4: City of Saint Alban's Jared Page. We got some exciting
• 36:18
Speaker 4: things going on in Saint Albans that mister Page is
• 36:23
Speaker 4: going to talk about. Plus Solango and I are planning
• 36:27
Speaker 4: on double teaming Jared Page tomorrow because tomorrow begins the
• 36:31
Speaker 4: NFL season and the favorite NFL team of may you
• 36:37
Speaker 4: know that of me as the Dallas Cowboys. It's also
• 36:40
Speaker 4: the favorite NFL team of Commissioner Solango. So we're gonna
• 36:44
Speaker 4: take on uh, mister Page's team, the defending Super Bowl
• 36:49
Speaker 4: champion in Philadelphia Eagles. All right on Thursday Night football.
• 36:54
Speaker 4: And I mentioned this earlier. I'm going to be m
• 36:57
Speaker 4: seeing an event tomorrow night. I'll I mean, I think
• 37:00
Speaker 4: I mentioned on the air once before, but my alma mater,
• 37:04
Speaker 4: Logan High School has their annual Hall of Fame game
• 37:07
Speaker 4: on Friday night, and on the Thursday night before the
• 37:10
Speaker 4: Friday night game, they induct people into the Hall of Fame. No,
• 37:14
Speaker 4: I'm not being inducted, but I am going to serve
• 37:17
Speaker 4: as an MC and so it's an event I've done
• 37:19
Speaker 4: for well over ten years and they bring me back
• 37:22
Speaker 4: to the hometown. Actually the event is not held in Logan.
• 37:25
Speaker 4: It's held at the Logan Country Club, which oddly enough,
• 37:28
Speaker 4: is in Chappinville. As soon as I get off the
• 37:31
Speaker 4: air tomorrow, I'll be heading down there help and wrap
• 37:34
Speaker 4: up the golf tournament, and then I'll be doing the
• 37:35
Speaker 4: dinner and seeing the dinner tomorrow night. But with all
• 37:38
Speaker 4: due respect to I think there's four people going in
• 37:42
Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame down there this year. I am
• 37:44
Speaker 4: going to make this the quickest speech ever because I
• 37:46
Speaker 4: got to get back in the vehicle so I can
• 37:48
Speaker 4: listen to the Cowboys game all right on my way
• 37:52
Speaker 4: back home to Tady's Valley. But anyway, so yeah, we'll
• 37:55
Speaker 4: have a Commissioner Selango, and the vice the vice vice
• 37:59
Speaker 4: president of and I'm sure he would have liked that.
• 38:01
Speaker 4: Though the Vice Mayor, Jared Page, will be on the
• 38:03
Speaker 4: show more. Also, Danny Boyd is going to join us tomorrow. Danny,
• 38:08
Speaker 4: of course, is a true Western treasure. He's out with
• 38:11
Speaker 4: a brand new book and we're gonna talk about that
• 38:14
Speaker 4: within tomorrow. Plus on tomorrows show, we're gonna have details
• 38:17
Speaker 4: on this Saturday's Chilling on the Elk, Chili Cookoff, craft
• 38:21
Speaker 4: beer wine events Saturday on Main Street and Clindennon. We'll

• 38:43
Speaker 4: West Virginia icon Homer Hickam is going to be on

Speaker 4: the show today. The announcement was made yesterday that the

• 38:58

• 39:01
Speaker 4: actually lives in Huntsville. So we're gonna talk to Homer

Speaker 4: hiccup about that and more. Also, I think Fred Persinger's

Speaker 4: show on Open Mind, West Virginia yesterday when somebody said
• 40:02
Speaker 4: something to the effect of I really hope that what
• 40:06
Speaker 4: was I think the exact wordy was. I hope that
• 40:08
Speaker 4: the media and you know, I love that term is
• 40:11
Speaker 4: as rough on Donald Trump as what they were on
• 40:14
Speaker 4: Joe Biden. Well, I mean, I don't know that it
• 40:17
Speaker 4: was being rough on Joe Biden, but it was pretty
• 40:19
Speaker 4: obvious that Joe Biden was in decline for a long time,
• 40:23
Speaker 4: well before the debate. I mean, the debate last summer
• 40:27
Speaker 4: was what really put it on full display that the
• 40:30
Speaker 4: Democrats had to move on. Somebody should have figured that
• 40:34
Speaker 4: out well before then. And look, if that becomes the
• 40:36
Speaker 4: case with Donald Trump, I would say the same thing.
• 40:38
Speaker 4: And you know me, I'm not a Trump supporter, Okay,
• 40:44
Speaker 4: I do think it was very interesting that we made
• 40:45
Speaker 4: such a big deal out of Joe Biden's age and
• 40:49
Speaker 4: not as much about Donald Trump's. But there was a
• 40:51
Speaker 4: lot of unbiased talk, okay, because there is unbiased stuff
• 40:56
Speaker 4: out there, you just got to look to find it.
• 40:58
Speaker 4: Not talking about CNN or MSNBC or even Fox News.
• 41:02
Speaker 4: I'm talking about actual unbiased chatter online from people and
• 41:07
Speaker 4: from news sources saying the president President Trump is is
• 41:12
Speaker 4: not looking well and acting well and sounding well. They
• 41:14
Speaker 4: say so anyway, that's neither here nor there. So I
• 41:17
Speaker 4: appreciate the appreciate the text. Text says you won't be
• 41:22
Speaker 4: inducted into the Hall of fame, but you could be indicted.
• 41:24
  Speaker 4: Well that's that's that's possible. Hopefully not, hopefully not. I'm
• 41:30
Speaker 4: too pretty to go to Jill.

Speaker 4: The memorial service for Tim Armstead held last night at
• 41:53
  Speaker 4: the Capitol.
• 41:54
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 41:54
Speaker 4: There were so many people there that they had to
• 41:57
Speaker 4: put TV monitors out in the hallways for the people
• 42:02
Speaker 4: that didn't go into the house chambers. It was a
• 42:07
Speaker 4: very very memorable event last night, and I had an
• 42:11
Speaker 4: opposition of the Morning News this morning. Jeff Jenkins and
• 42:14
Speaker 4: Chris Lawrence played some audio from it, the speeches that
• 42:16
Speaker 4: came out of it. And this has just been a
• 42:20
Speaker 4: I guess a week's worth of of folks and programming
• 42:24
Speaker 4: coming out just saying what an incredible human being that
• 42:27
Speaker 4: Tim Armstead was. And even when here's what I like
• 42:31
Speaker 4: about it. Even people who did not agree with him
• 42:34
Speaker 4: at all politically all said the same thing about what
• 42:37
Speaker 4: a decent human being that Tim Armstead was. And so
• 42:41
Speaker 4: it was a fitting service held in the House chambers
• 42:45
Speaker 4: last night, the public, the visitation, the viewing, and then
• 42:48

Speaker 4: yesterday about Girls Night Out, off again, on again, off again.
• 43:09
Speaker 4: Going back to July, the Charleston YWCA YWCA announced that
• 43:14
Speaker 4: they would be canceling the annual Girls' Night Out event,
• 43:16
Speaker 4: which is, you know, raised money for the Resolved Family
• 43:20
Speaker 4: Abuse program. The new CEO there had said then that
• 43:24
Speaker 4: the event was quote going back to its roots and
• 43:28
Speaker 4: remembering its mission end quote. And I read that to
• 43:31
Speaker 4: mean smaller gatherings and smaller events. At least it's the
• 43:35
Speaker 4: way I took it. The plan I was told was
• 43:38
Speaker 4: to have small gatherings the first Friday of every month,
• 43:40
Speaker 4: with the host of the event providing a tool that
• 43:43
Speaker 4: would include survivor stories, mission videos, conversation guides, fundraising materials, etc. Now,
• 43:49
Speaker 4: according to the story I'm thirteen, the first one has
• 43:52
Speaker 4: now been canceled because it didn't sell enough tickets. It
• 43:56
Speaker 4: was to have taken place this Friday night at the
• 43:58
Speaker 4: Hail Center Downtown. Social media posts that in part quote
• 44:02
Speaker 4: with heavy hearts, we are canceling Fridays Girls' Night Out
• 44:05
Speaker 4: for this Friday. Tickets didn't sell as needed and without sponsors,
• 44:09
Speaker 4: we can't solely carry the cost to put on the
• 44:11
Speaker 4: event end quote, and tickets will be refunded, according to
• 44:15
Speaker 4: the post, and for their part, the Hail Street Center
• 44:17
Speaker 4: told thirteen News it was including the story that they
• 44:21
Speaker 4: do not have any future events scheduled with them, talking
• 44:24
Speaker 4: about the Hale Street Center doesn't have any future event

• 44:29
Speaker 4: them now no comment from the folks with the YWCA

Speaker 4: every segment on the show this morning, not one had

Speaker 4: anything to do with Trump. A despicably insane texter whose
• 47:32
Speaker 4: daily focus is on nothing but blind hatred of him
• 47:35
Speaker 4: is exactly what Trump derangement syndrome sounds like. Boys and
• 47:39
Speaker 4: girls say's a texture tex says is obvious. Trump is
• 47:43
Speaker 4: a sex abuser in pedophile yet Republicans pretend he's not,
• 47:45
Speaker 4: and journalists don't care. Country's broken morals do not matter. Also,
• 47:49
Speaker 4: Republicans have no honor or integrity. If you didn't hear

Speaker 4: yesterday's local show, I'd urge you go back and listen,

• 48:04
Speaker 4: I had the chief of staff for Mayor Goodwin, Matt Sutton,
• 48:09
Speaker 4: on the show yesterday and a Texter had asked about
• 48:12
Speaker 4: the future of the Town Center, and Aaron Parker turned
• 48:14
Speaker 4: it into a story posted this morning wv Metronews dot com.
• 48:17
Speaker 4: Mister Sutton says, the city has been having good conversations
• 48:21
Speaker 4: with the whole group. Now that's the owners of the
• 48:23
Speaker 4: town Centers. And you know, if you think about it,
• 48:26
Speaker 4: when the whole group took over the mall in twenty
• 48:29
Speaker 4: twenty one, Sears and Macy's have been demolished. The final
• 48:32
Speaker 4: anchor of the mall, JC Pennies closed. We all know
• 48:34
Speaker 4: about tide water, so on and so forth, and look,
• 48:38
Speaker 4: you know first part. Matt Sutton on the show yesterday
• 48:41
Speaker 4: says the mall will never be what it was once
• 48:43
Speaker 4: and I agree. The future of the mall is not
• 48:47
Speaker 4: full on retail establishment. Of course, the sports center someone
• 48:50
Speaker 4: on Hold two. It's kind of the baby of County
• 48:52
Speaker 4: Commission President Ben Selango and others. So that Commissioner Selango again,
• 48:57
Speaker 4: We'll be on the local show tomorrow to talk about it.
• 49:00
Speaker 4: And Sutton said yesterday that the sports complex is tied
• 49:02
Speaker 4: directly to what's going on at the mall, and a
• 49:05
Speaker 4: quote from mister Sutton directly from yesterday's show, We're working
• 49:09
Speaker 4: through not only some additional funding opportunities that we have,
• 49:12
Speaker 4: but also what the future of the mall and the
• 49:14
Speaker 4: property is going to hold in quote interesting stuff. And
• 49:20
Speaker 4: while we all would like the mall to go back
• 49:24
Speaker 4: to its former glory, think Pica Day Christmas nineteen eighty
• 49:27
Speaker 4: seven is using that as an example. I mean, that
• 49:30
Speaker 4: is simply not going to happen. The city of Charleston
• 49:35
Speaker 4: knows that, and the whole group knows that. And I've
• 49:40
Speaker 4: said this for some time. One store one restaurant is
• 49:47
Speaker 4: not going to change that. And I'm sorry, with all
• 49:49
Speaker 4: due respect to my former producer Caitlin Murphy who was convinced,
• 49:53
Speaker 4: love to death that Dave and Busters would save the
• 49:55
Speaker 4: Town Center. It's not nor any other one or two businesses.
• 50:00
Speaker 4: And the text lines always light up when we talk
• 50:03
Speaker 4: about this, Well bring this in. Ain't nothing gonna work
• 50:07
Speaker 4: under the current model. One store one restaurant is not
• 50:11
Speaker 4: gonna work. And and I've said since day one, I
• 50:17
Speaker 4: am all on board with the Sports Complex, have been
• 50:21
Speaker 4: since day one. Pair it up with a few more
• 50:25
Speaker 4: smaller establishments, maybe a restaurant or to a simple food
• 50:30
Speaker 4: court kind of a place, a concert area, And of
• 50:35
Speaker 4: course we still had the desperty for more hotels. And
• 50:39
Speaker 4: I think you could have a winner, I really really do.
• 50:42
Speaker 4: But the future if you are holding your breath saying
• 50:46
Speaker 4: we're gonna open up X store. Everybody in this whole
• 50:48
Speaker 4: country's crazy about BUCkies now, and for the life of me,
• 50:51
  Speaker 4: I visited one a couple of weeks ago. I don't
• 50:52
Speaker 4: know why, but I'm glad i went. You know, I
• 50:55
Speaker 4: got the experience, you know, because there's nothing like camping
• 50:57
Speaker 4: fresh brisket at seven o'clock in the morning. You know,
• 51:02
Speaker 4: everybody's in love with it now. Even if you put
• 51:05
Speaker 4: one of those in there, which is not gonna happen,
• 51:08
Speaker 4: it's not gonna say not in its current set. That's
• 51:10
Speaker 4: that's the future of it. And I am glad I
• 51:14
Speaker 4: like the vision of the City of Charleston and the
• 51:16
Speaker 4: County Commission and others have for it right now, because
• 51:18
Speaker 4: I think that's what the future is. Tex says the
• 51:21
Speaker 4: only hold on to me.
• 51:23
  Speaker 5: Back up.
• 51:24
Speaker 4: I care about my country. That's why I text in
• 51:26
Speaker 4: Trump's failures so Dave can read them and maybe so
• 51:29
Speaker 4: they might sink into thick maga heads. Unlikely but wishful
• 51:32
Speaker 4: thinking to preserve what's great about our country. The only
• 51:35
Speaker 4: people who are deranged are people who support the fraudster,
• 51:38
Speaker 4: pedophile Donald Trump, TJ. Meadows. Neither of those things. That
• 51:45
Speaker 4: is what it's right now.
• 51:46
Speaker 17: They don't want to save them all. They want to
• 51:49
Speaker 17: redevelop the land. That's how they make money. That's what
• 51:50
Speaker 17: these groups do. They go in, they buy distressed assets
• 51:53
Speaker 17: and look at that. They keep one or two anchors
• 51:55
Speaker 17: until it's done. Look at the history. I mean, that's
• 51:57
Speaker 17: what this company does well. I mean, the company's all
• 51:58
Speaker 17: over amer can do it and make a lot of
• 52:00
Speaker 17: money doing it. So their deal is to bring something
• 52:03
Speaker 17: completely new, demolish the building that's there. It's the value
• 52:06
Speaker 17: is the land and they'll sell the land to somebody
• 52:08
Speaker 17: and they'll make their money.
• 52:09
  Speaker 4: I mean.
• 52:09
Speaker 17: So yeah, if you think the town center's coming back,
• 52:12
