- 0:45Grab a plate, tune in now,
- 0:47you part of the fam.
- 0:52It's lunch time.
- 0:55What's going on, everybody?
- 0:57Welcome.
- 0:58lunch with the clydesdale and the cowboy
- 1:01we are back after a day off what's
- 1:05crazy to me is we are to a
- 1:06spot in this pod that we miss a
- 1:10day and i get bombarded with dms where
- 1:16are you what's going on you okay is
- 1:18everything all right what's happening why
- 1:19are you why would you want today i
- 1:20mean she didn't miss the lunch today hey
- 1:22man like stuff happens
- 1:25then the people who listened on monday and
- 1:27i said i got tests i have to
- 1:29go through i'm getting dms texts saying
- 1:32hey hope everything goes well all that
- 1:35kind of stuff and it is it is
- 1:39awesome that people reach out like that i
- 1:41just i love that you guys care that
- 1:44much um that you miss us when we're
- 1:47gone and that you wish us well when
- 1:50we're going through stuff
- 1:52uh when we pick up broccoli salad and
- 1:55throw out our back people send well wishes
- 1:58i got so many dude is your back
- 2:01okay what happened to your back are you
- 2:02he's back all right you okay
- 2:04I was like, yeah, I'm way better now.
- 2:06I appreciate, though.
- 2:07I mean, I laugh about it, you know,
- 2:09mostly at myself.
- 2:10But, yeah, I'm good.
- 2:11I appreciate it.
- 2:13It's just funny that you have to tighten
- 2:15the weight belt before you pick up the
- 2:18broccoli slaw now.
- 2:19Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 2:21I actually have.
- 2:24I'm actually using my weight belt now.
- 2:26I snatched yesterday and went and grabbed
- 2:28my old Rogue one just to put it
- 2:29on because my son has my one from
- 2:31MFC, my two-poo belt somewhere in his car.
- 2:34I got to go get it from him.
- 2:36Well, I never used a belt ever, ever,
- 2:40ever, ever.
- 2:42And then the twelve back procedures later,
- 2:45yeah, I started using a belt.
- 2:46Yeah.
- 2:49It is still not comfortable for me to
- 2:53snatch or clean in a belt.
- 2:55No, not at all.
- 2:57Here's the thing.
- 2:58I haven't used one for so long that
- 3:01yesterday,
- 3:02especially that Rogue belt's a little bit
- 3:04wider than the Tupu.
- 3:06Tupu's a lot thinner.
- 3:08So
- 3:11um ramirez i'm actually might buy a herd
- 3:13belt that's entirely possible since my son
- 3:15has my one that i got at mfc
- 3:17anyway yeah belted up got it as tight
- 3:21as i as i could and then was
- 3:23like sitting there trying to get it in
- 3:24the right spot so that when i squat
- 3:27snatch it's not like digging into my back
- 3:30digging into my back or digging into my
- 3:32stomach and hurting in either one of those
- 3:34spots so
- 3:36It's going to take some getting used to.
- 3:38Hopefully,
- 3:39I just have it until I get comfortable
- 3:40with not having it mentally again for that
- 3:45extra support because I actually feel a
- 3:47hell of a lot better.
- 3:47My physical therapist is a genius.
- 3:53So I have a,
- 3:54I have a Clydesdale media to food belt.
- 3:57Um,
- 3:58that's it's old and it's just comfortable.
- 4:01Um, but it,
- 4:02it always like dug into my stomach when
- 4:05I was lifting.
- 4:06Yeah.
- 4:07I've lost a little bit of weight.
- 4:09And so it doesn't do that anymore,
- 4:10which is a lot of weight.
- 4:15It's really, really, um,
- 4:18a good feeling to not have that digging
- 4:21in anymore.
- 4:23I can't even imagine, dude.
- 4:25No, but I want, I want to get,
- 4:26like I said,
- 4:27I've been toying with the idea of buying
- 4:29a belt.
- 4:37I think you could have held that on
- 4:38for another five seconds.
- 4:39I probably could have,
- 4:40but I'm also trying to adjust my pants.
- 4:43So speaking of holding on, well, first,
- 4:46um,
- 4:47Craig Pasley with the great job last night
- 4:49on the sports show.
- 4:50Um, I had such a ball,
- 4:52such a blast.
- 4:54It's nice getting out of like this niche
- 4:56of not that we're in a niche anymore.
- 4:59Like we are totally,
- 5:01totally off the rails,
- 5:02but it's nice getting away from like the
- 5:05CrossFit stuff.
- 5:06Oh yeah.
- 5:07Just talking about all my other sports
- 5:09passions, which are a lot.
- 5:11Yeah.
- 5:12Yeah.
- 5:13Like I said,
- 5:13I was telling you before we went on,
- 5:15I wish I could have jumped on because,
- 5:17you know,
- 5:19the Drew Brees thing that I sent you
- 5:21and then some of the stuff y'all talking
- 5:22about,
- 5:22like I had other stuff to say regarding
- 5:25it because y'all were talking about like
- 5:26my era of baseball when we were talking
- 5:28about
- 5:29The Bash Brothers,
- 5:32which I didn't bring up,
- 5:33but I was going to talk about Ricky
- 5:34Henderson because that was one of my
- 5:36favorite players growing up.
- 5:38You mentioned Ozzie Smith last night.
- 5:40That was my favorite shortstop for the
- 5:42longest time that dude was.
- 5:44He was an acrobat for all intents and
- 5:46purposes.
- 5:46It was some of the catches he made
- 5:49were absolutely just,
- 5:51they didn't make sense.
- 5:52Yeah.
- 5:54He did the round off back flip to
- 5:56start the season when he took position at
- 5:59shortstop.
- 6:00Yeah, dude.
- 6:00And you look forward to it every single
- 6:02year.
- 6:03A hundred percent.
- 6:06You know, stolen base King, Mr.
- 6:08Ricky Henderson.
- 6:09So here's a fun fact that people, Ricky,
- 6:12like Ricky loves Ricky.
- 6:14Ricky talked in a third person.
- 6:15Yeah.
- 6:19ricky gone um here's the thing fun fun
- 6:23fact about ricky is that um he's so
- 6:27far ahead as far as the stolen base
- 6:30count is concerned that like any one of
- 6:32the players i was playing today who might
- 6:34be no you know known for stealing bases
- 6:36would have to steal i forget it's like
- 6:39an absurd amount of bases for the next
- 6:43twenty years to be able to catch him
- 6:46Patrick Clark is talking about Ricky being
- 6:48his favorite player in the wraparound
- 6:49Oakleys.
- 6:50How much money do you think Oakley made
- 6:52because of Ricky Henderson?
- 6:54Oh, a lot.
- 6:56A whole lot.
- 6:57Nobody made those wraparound Oakleys look
- 7:00as good as Ricky Henderson.
- 7:03Absolutely.
- 7:05Absolutely.
- 7:05Ricky, go on.
- 7:09If you go look, dude,
- 7:10like if you talk about it in front
- 7:11of your phone,
- 7:12mention Ricky Henderson and your algorithm
- 7:14is paying attention,
- 7:15they will start feeding you stories told
- 7:18by other people about Ricky Henderson.
- 7:21And I guarantee you're going to have a
- 7:23good time.
- 7:26He was as talented as it comes and
- 7:31as quirky as it comes.
- 7:32Yeah, yeah.
- 7:35The A's had,
- 7:37at the end of a year,
- 7:38they had an accounting anomaly come up
- 7:41where they had too much money in the
- 7:42bank.
- 7:43It's because they paid Ricky a check for
- 7:45a million dollars and he framed it and
- 7:47put it on the wall and never cashed
- 7:49it.
- 7:53If I only had that kind of jack
- 7:57to be able to just frame my million
- 8:00dollar check.
- 8:00Yeah.
- 8:01Yeah.
- 8:02And called him and be like, Ricky,
- 8:05did you ever cash that check?
- 8:08no we can't have cash it's like grandma
- 8:10that sends you the five dollar check for
- 8:12your birthday and you just forget like i
- 8:14can see that yeah the million dollar check
- 8:19you weren't worried about it uh ricky i
- 8:21was just going through my checkbook and i
- 8:24can't get it to to balance not balancing
- 8:27out
- 8:32oh it's bananas dude it's bananas but yeah
- 8:36that um i enjoyed it i got what
- 8:38i got to listen to dude fantastic yeah
- 8:42i um see i love that's there that's
- 8:47what i miss about baseball like i i
- 8:49love baseball i love watching baseball i
- 8:51said it last night i watch every pirates
- 8:53game because i have a second tv in
- 8:56my living room like and then football
- 8:58season it football's on both tvs and
- 9:02We go to town,
- 9:03but I miss the storytelling.
- 9:06The announcers back in the day,
- 9:08like in the eighties and nineties,
- 9:10would tell all those Ricky Henderson
- 9:12stories while the game's going on.
- 9:15And that's what made watching baseball
- 9:17awesome.
- 9:18It was like just listening to your dad
- 9:22tell stories while you're watching a game.
- 9:30um barry bond's all-time record of of
- 9:34career home runs the active career home
- 9:36run leader is giancarlo stanton with four
- 9:39fifty six and he old yeah
- 9:43So he only needs, what is that,
- 9:46three hundred and six,
- 9:50three hundred and sixteen more?
- 9:51Yeah, shouldn't be a big deal.
- 9:52I don't see what the problem is.
- 9:53In addition to that, Joseph,
- 9:54Barry Bonds' hat size of nine and a
- 9:57quarter is still unmatched.
- 10:00I think the current active biggest head in
- 10:04baseball is an eight and a quarter.
- 10:05Yeah, dude had him a big old head.
- 10:09Well, it wasn't always big.
- 10:11It just mysteriously became big in the
- 10:14latter half of his career.
- 10:16At some point,
- 10:19it just blew up for some reason.
- 10:22Totally unrelated to anything else he was
- 10:24doing.
- 10:25Yeah.
- 10:27Take your shots at what it could have
- 10:29been.
- 10:32Throw out your guesses, folks.
- 10:32Throw out your guesses.
- 10:38It was the carnivore diet.
- 10:40Yeah, that's probably what it was.
- 10:41Yeah.
- 10:42I think Joseph is on to something there.
- 10:44Yeah.
- 10:47Ed was a Griffey Big Hurt kind of
- 10:48guy.
- 10:49Ken Griffey Jr.
- 10:49was one.
- 10:51When I was in.
- 10:52Let me Ken Griffey it up.
- 10:53There you go.
- 10:55I would watch the kid all the time.
- 10:58Every time he was on ESPN,
- 10:59I would tune in to watch Ken Griffey.
- 11:02And I was in Toronto for something,
- 11:05and the Mariners had come to town.
- 11:06I instantly went down, scalped tickets,
- 11:09got my ass into Sky Dome to watch
- 11:11Ken Griffey Jr.
- 11:12play.
- 11:13I would imagine so.
- 11:13Yeah.
- 11:16but yeah, that's the area,
- 11:18the areas y'all were talking about
- 11:19yesterday, right.
- 11:20When I was, uh,
- 11:21as I was getting dressed and get out
- 11:22of my work clothes,
- 11:23getting in my gym clothes, I was like,
- 11:25man,
- 11:26y'all talking about my stuff right now,
- 11:27right then.
- 11:28Cause like modern football,
- 11:30once you get past, you know,
- 11:34two thousand and probably thirteen or
- 11:37fourteen i just stopped paying attention
- 11:39to the nfl college football i'm all in
- 11:42like i know i know way more than
- 11:43i probably should have but uh having said
- 11:46that that's the other thing i was gonna
- 11:47bring up yesterday if i was able to
- 11:48hop on was that i am probably going
- 11:51to at least keep up with a lot
- 11:53more um with the saints this year and
- 11:55just nfl football in general um just
- 11:58because this new quarterback that we have
- 12:00mr shuck
- 12:01seems to be the real deal after the
- 12:03second half of the season like he was
- 12:04out there doing it and he seems to
- 12:07actually care about the city um and the
- 12:10people in there and whatnot and he and
- 12:12if you're if you're from if you're in
- 12:14new orleans and you play for the saints
- 12:16and you even give off an aura of
- 12:19i actually give a shit about this town
- 12:21the people embrace you and if the people
- 12:23embrace you you're going to be there for
- 12:24a long time especially you know if you're
- 12:25good or not so good stuff
- 12:30so i was watching get up this morning
- 12:33they actually featured the saints in one
- 12:35of the uh quick rundowns that adam
- 12:38schefter was doing yeah and the reports
- 12:41are that the new receiver they got um
- 12:46his name escapes me right now uh is
- 12:49killing people in practice yeah
- 12:56Receiver core has never really been a
- 12:57problem.
- 12:57Running back hasn't been a problem the
- 12:59last five, seven years or whatnot.
- 13:03We need some defense,
- 13:05and an offensive line would be fantastic,
- 13:07just in case you were wondering.
- 13:08You got a good quarterback,
- 13:11you're going to want to protect him.
- 13:13Yeah,
- 13:13the same thing that Cincinnati has going
- 13:15on.
- 13:17Mr. Joe Burrow up there,
- 13:19you can be the best quarterback in the
- 13:21world,
- 13:21but if you're running for your life every
- 13:22single play,
- 13:23it makes it really hard to do your
- 13:24job.
- 13:27So I wanted to,
- 13:30before we dive into some other stuff,
- 13:33I had my appointment yesterday.
- 13:34Yep.
- 13:36And I don't know if you guys heard,
- 13:37I don't know how much national weather
- 13:39this may national news,
- 13:40the weather in Ohio made yesterday,
- 13:43but we got thumped on.
- 13:46Yeah.
- 13:47And I am going to share my screen
- 13:52and show you just how bad it was.
- 13:58So this is video from a traffic cam.
- 14:03Oh, wow.
- 14:04Okay.
- 14:04So it's just starting to rain.
- 14:05And all of a sudden,
- 14:06about a third of the way through this,
- 14:07you'll see the rain pick up,
- 14:09the wind pick up.
- 14:14Because there it goes.
- 14:16See that?
- 14:17Jeez, and here it goes.
- 14:18Now, in the far right lane,
- 14:19watch the taillights of a car here, right?
- 14:24It's coming up.
- 14:25It's getting bad.
- 14:29You see the hazards?
- 14:30Yeah.
- 14:31Now, watch right here.
- 14:34This car gets picked up and flipped and
- 14:41goes two lanes and lands on its wheels.
- 14:46Full flip in the air.
- 14:49That's insane.
- 14:52That's what we had yesterday here in Ohio.
- 14:56While you're on your way to the doctor.
- 14:57While I was on my way to my
- 14:58appointment.
- 15:01Yes, yes.
- 15:05It was it was crazy, man.
- 15:10Here, I'm gonna shrink this down.
- 15:12I sent Vicki another one I'm going to
- 15:13try to pull up.
- 15:15This is another view of it.
- 15:20This was in Dublin,
- 15:21Ohio and neighboring area.
- 15:25Now this is like hurricane shit.
- 15:29It does look like...
- 15:31We're not near an ocean or a gulf.
- 15:33Nope.
- 15:35Oh, that poor tree.
- 15:37Yeah, it just snapped in half.
- 15:42I like that comment right there.
- 15:43The tree is gone.
- 15:44The whole south side was up in it.
- 15:46We're looking at a skinny tree.
- 15:50Yeah.
- 15:51Yeah.
- 15:53And someone posted a picture of a skinny
- 15:55tree getting snapped.
- 15:58That is funny.
- 15:59That's hilarious.
- 16:03But what a what a crazy day yesterday.
- 16:07and it was just hot down here so
- 16:11noon i went up to uh get my
- 16:14test started i was there till five had
- 16:17chest ct um had i had to sit
- 16:21in a glass box and breathe through a
- 16:23tube um and if you remember like six
- 16:27months ago they thought i might have
- 16:29sarcoidosis there were masses in my lungs
- 16:32those masses are starting to clear
- 16:35And all the interference in the CT is
- 16:39disappearing.
- 16:41So everything is going well.
- 16:44But they found a pocket of pneumonia.
- 16:46Of course they did.
- 16:48So I have walking pneumonia.
- 16:50And the boogie woogie flu.
- 16:51Yeah.
- 16:53And so starting antibiotics tonight,
- 16:56now that the pharmacy has just filled my
- 16:58antibiotics about twenty minutes ago.
- 17:00Well,
- 17:00they were probably trying to find a treat
- 17:01at broken half.
- 17:02So, yeah, I guess I can forgive them.
- 17:05It was a little bit windy yesterday.
- 17:08It's a little bit of stuff going on
- 17:10like that.
- 17:12Well, good, dude.
- 17:12That is outstanding news.
- 17:15It is.
- 17:16And look,
- 17:17do you feel bad from the pneumonia?
- 17:19Like,
- 17:19did you feel like something was going on?
- 17:21I can tell when I sleep on that
- 17:23side.
- 17:24That there's something, yeah,
- 17:25something's not right.
- 17:26Yeah.
- 17:27But other than that, I'm saying like,
- 17:28you know, walking around, whatever.
- 17:31The improvement of my lungs is greater
- 17:34than the detriment of the pneumonia.
- 17:37Yes.
- 17:39So I'm excited that if I clear off
- 17:41this pneumonia,
- 17:42like how much better will I feel?
- 17:44Better it's going to actually be.
- 17:45Yeah, dude, that's awesome.
- 17:46That's awesome.
- 17:47That is nothing but good news right there.
- 17:49I'm a big fan of that.
- 17:50Yeah.
- 17:51So...
- 17:56We just, yeah.
- 17:58So it's funny you should mention that,
- 17:59Mark.
- 18:01Because I had some right before the show.
- 18:06Scott had pocket jerky right as I got.
- 18:10I logged on.
- 18:11Scott was already on and showing off he
- 18:12was eating pocket jerky right whenever I
- 18:14got there.
- 18:15That is outstanding.
- 18:19My MD said walking pneumonia, not bad,
- 18:22relatively speaking.
- 18:24Dr. Shannon Bunce.
- 18:26yeah so um really good um speaking of
- 18:30and i'm not i'm still very very grateful
- 18:33to shannon for sending me her jersey that
- 18:36i still have not gotten yet so i
- 18:38don't know if it's coming you know they're
- 18:42actually delivering it like on a pack mule
- 18:45with somebody named cookie and whatnot.
- 18:49But like,
- 18:49I've been checking my mail pretty
- 18:50regularly.
- 18:52Like I got home yesterday and there was
- 18:53a package sitting on my,
- 18:55on my counter and I was like, Ooh,
- 18:57that for me.
- 18:58And Jennifer was like, yeah.
- 18:59And it was something I'd ordered from
- 19:00Amazon.
- 19:00So I was like, Oh, nevermind.
- 19:04No ma'am.
- 19:04It has not arrived yet.
- 19:08Ken Walters,
- 19:09I just finished watching Bailey Martin's
- 19:10recap why he didn't finish top ten.
- 19:12Hard things happen.
- 19:13Didn't they have to pass physicals this
- 19:15year?
- 19:16They sure did have to pass physicals.
- 19:18Here's the thing, though.
- 19:20It was by their own doctor.
- 19:23Whatever, whoever they're they're they're.
- 19:27primary care physician is whatever they
- 19:29could just it's basically we could have
- 19:32got shanna like if scott's going to the
- 19:34games he could have got shanna to write
- 19:36him a note saying hey he took this
- 19:37physical and he's good to go boom can
- 19:41i can i say that after going through
- 19:45afib and kind of the heart thing watching
- 19:48him i i feared that yeah the way
- 19:52he reacted to things i feared that damn
- 19:58I didn't,
- 19:58so I didn't even know that was a
- 19:59thing.
- 20:00So he was, he,
- 20:01he's thinking he had some like a murmur
- 20:03or something or.
- 20:04So if you remember Torian two years ago,
- 20:07he had to withdraw because of a heart
- 20:10thing.
- 20:10Yep.
- 20:11I think he had an ablation after that.
- 20:15So yeah.
- 20:17Wow.
- 20:19If he had heart things again,
- 20:22it's going to,
- 20:25where do you go from there?
- 20:27No clue.
- 20:32Gosh, I'm jumping all over the map today.
- 20:34You have a map?
- 20:41Someone said to me today,
- 20:43we were trying to figure out who did
- 20:45what at CrossFit HQ.
- 20:46Right.
- 20:47And I said,
- 20:48their org chart must look like a ball
- 20:51of yarn that has gotten loose.
- 20:52Yeah.
- 20:55hundred percent and and sometimes their
- 20:58yarn goes over the same person like
- 20:59multiple times and then it scoots over
- 21:02here and it looks like that thing from
- 21:04uh with charlie day where he's sitting in
- 21:06front and he's got a map with all
- 21:08the one of those type deals um i
- 21:16got a
- 21:21Shannon says he had an anomaly to an
- 21:24artery feeding his heart, I believe.
- 21:27Jeez.
- 21:30That can't be fixed without surgery.
- 21:34It doesn't sound like it could be surgery.
- 21:39Wow.
- 21:40Okay.
- 21:42I'm not even going to speak on that
- 21:43because I know nothing in that realm.
- 21:46And I don't know way out of my
- 21:48depth.
- 21:49I'm already out of my depth,
- 21:50and that's just going to make it worse.
- 21:55I found out why the money is missing.
- 21:59Oh.
- 22:01I am.
- 22:02I'm here for this.
- 22:03Please, let's do this.
- 22:05So,
- 22:06this is a thing that is very frustrating
- 22:09for me and CrossFit HQ.
- 22:12This is a very, very simple explanation,
- 22:14in my opinion,
- 22:16that if they just said it ahead of
- 22:18time,
- 22:19Oh, you ask it a lot now.
- 22:23So, apparently,
- 22:27and it is not everybody in the world
- 22:31pays twenty dollars for the open.
- 22:35There are regions of the world with
- 22:37certain economies that they get a reduced
- 22:39rate on the open.
- 22:45i have heard that like i even heard
- 22:46that that they get like a reduced
- 22:48affiliate fee they get reduced like
- 22:51different costs around the world for lower
- 22:58income third world countries that are
- 23:00participating i live in louisiana we about
- 23:03as low income as you come and i
- 23:04gotta pay twenty dollars every year what
- 23:06the hell dude come on twenty bucks
- 23:11i'm shocked uh james said hq told him
- 23:14that they did give away free registrations
- 23:16and discounted registrations that is what
- 23:19i got as well is okay in addition
- 23:23to that i did also hear that in
- 23:26some areas they had to pay credit card
- 23:28fees for the um the payments but
- 23:36And I get all that.
- 23:38If you just say that up front,
- 23:39that the prize purse will be this minus
- 23:43our discounted registrations,
- 23:45our free registrations,
- 23:47and credit card fees,
- 23:48now all of a sudden it's not a
- 23:49big deal.
- 23:52So what you're suggesting is clarity from
- 23:57HQ?
- 23:57Come on, Scott.
- 23:59But what they did instead was they said,
- 24:02instead of the two hundred and fifty four
- 24:04thousand people that signed up for the
- 24:06open,
- 24:06we're basing this on two hundred and forty
- 24:08two thousand people signing up for the
- 24:10open.
- 24:14So that doesn't that doesn't mesh.
- 24:18Not at all.
- 24:19The two things did not go together.
- 24:23So,
- 24:24but I do understand the explanation and it
- 24:26does make sense.
- 24:28Just what the hell?
- 24:33Again, just, just explain it.
- 24:34Just put it in the rule book,
- 24:36put it in writing.
- 24:36So we know it.
- 24:41That ain't going to happen.
- 24:42You know, that ain't going to happen.
- 24:43I know that ain't going to happen.
- 24:44Vicky knows it's not going to happen.
- 24:45Everybody in the chat knows that's not
- 24:47going to happen.
- 24:49Yeah, thank you, Aaron.
- 24:50Transparency and CrossFit HQ do not go
- 24:52together.
- 24:52It's not a thing.
- 24:55So we talked about this last night about
- 24:56the WNBA and the commissioner not being
- 24:59equipped with the capabilities to govern
- 25:02that sport as it grows.
- 25:05Like she was great for them when they
- 25:06were a smaller league,
- 25:08and as they have grown in popularity,
- 25:10she is now out of her depth.
- 25:13Quite.
- 25:14I fear that that's where we are with
- 25:17CrossFit HQ.
- 25:19There's good people there that are good at
- 25:22certain aspects of their job.
- 25:24But as CrossFit grew,
- 25:26they were then out of their depth on
- 25:28how to sustain and grow the business.
- 25:34Yeah,
- 25:34you're applying the same principles you
- 25:39were using to run a hundred person company
- 25:43and trying to use them to run a
- 25:45ten thousand person company.
- 25:46It just doesn't work the same.
- 25:50Yeah.
- 25:51I mean, in this country,
- 25:53it's really easy to run a small business,
- 25:57but a lot of medium-sized businesses die
- 25:59because the people aren't equipped to run
- 26:03that size of a business.
- 26:04Yeah.
- 26:07Right.
- 26:07I've heard story after story after story
- 26:09of people who were very successful as a
- 26:11small business owner.
- 26:12And when they tried to expand up,
- 26:14all of a sudden they lost everything.
- 26:19And weren't able to recover.
- 26:22And they were not able to recover.
- 26:26The shit started getting sideways on them.
- 26:27Didn't know what to do with themselves.
- 26:30Got into basically the deep end of the
- 26:32pool with no idea how to swim.
- 26:35And yeah, it got away from them.
- 26:38I can understand that.
- 26:43The other thing I wanted to...
- 26:45bring up is Jason Hopper did a debrief
- 26:48while he was sitting on a plane.
- 26:52And if Vicky has it and can pull
- 26:56it up, that'd be awesome.
- 26:58But it's a multi-slide kind of espousing
- 27:02about the mentality of being a champion
- 27:04and always wanting to win and learning
- 27:07that maybe that isn't what's going to make
- 27:09him happy in life.
- 27:11And what I find fascinating about it is
- 27:16Jason Hopper is kind of known as the
- 27:17big do-do-do-do guy, right?
- 27:21I always say I would love to see
- 27:22him do a spelling bee.
- 27:24Yes.
- 27:25This is very deep thinking, Jason Hopper.
- 27:29It's very adult Jason Hopper.
- 27:33Um, it's definitely worth a, uh,
- 27:38this is not it, Vicki.
- 27:42It is the white screen though.
- 27:44Yeah.
- 27:46Yeah.
- 27:46She was on, she was on the wrong.
- 27:48Yeah.
- 27:48It should be right there.
- 27:51You should be able to advance.
- 27:52There you go.
- 27:57Yeah.
- 27:58Um, so it's, it's really well,
- 27:59well worth the read, uh,
- 28:03Um, it's probably, you know,
- 28:04cause I don't read books.
- 28:05It took me about five minutes to go
- 28:07through all the, the, the carousel.
- 28:09If it had been,
- 28:11if it had been in,
- 28:12if it had been written in print,
- 28:14I just wouldn't have read it at all.
- 28:15We wouldn't even be talking about it
- 28:16today.
- 28:17Um, but it, it,
- 28:19it's really an interesting look at his,
- 28:22his, him growing up.
- 28:24He always wanted to win everything.
- 28:26Winning was everything.
- 28:27And then he won and it didn't really
- 28:29give him, um,
- 28:31the satisfaction he thought it would,
- 28:34it immediately became,
- 28:35I've got to win again.
- 28:39And how do you like get the joy
- 28:43back in life?
- 28:43And as a Christian man,
- 28:45how does he take that view of doing
- 28:50things for Jesus and this view of trying
- 28:53to win everything and how do they coexist?
- 28:57I would direct him towards one Richard
- 29:00Froning Jr.
- 29:02because he's one of the people who seems
- 29:04to have that figured out.
- 29:08So Rich's thing was like when it all
- 29:12clicked for him,
- 29:13if you've seen any one of the times
- 29:14that he's been asked to speak anywhere or
- 29:16when he's talked about it on his,
- 29:18you know,
- 29:19on the Fittest in History documentary and
- 29:21whatnot is that when he figured out that
- 29:24it's not about me.
- 29:26it's about you know showing these
- 29:30god-given abilities to to praise the lord
- 29:34the bet in the best way he can
- 29:36and then like if i'm not doing it
- 29:38for the glory of me i'm doing it
- 29:39for the glory of god it all kind
- 29:41of settled into place for it now granted
- 29:44rich was still winning every single thing
- 29:47right but that's what it took almost
- 29:52everything yeah look at the pictures when
- 29:55he didn't win
- 29:56Oh, yeah.
- 29:57He is very much... I get it.
- 30:02And as a Christian man, we're all flawed.
- 30:05We all have flaws.
- 30:06We all are sinners.
- 30:07All of that stuff.
- 30:09When he lost the Invitational,
- 30:15his death stare was...
- 30:18remarkable when they lost to the team to
- 30:24that's the only medal that he hung up
- 30:26in the barn was the second place one
- 30:30so that he could stare at it and
- 30:31remember how it felt yeah
- 30:35I did the same thing.
- 30:38I got second place at a comp,
- 30:40like one of the biggest comps over here
- 30:41in my age group,
- 30:43and my medal is still hanging in the
- 30:44gym where I can see it every single
- 30:46day because it pissed me off.
- 30:50For Rich, it was maturing,
- 30:51having a family, kids,
- 30:53that he learned that.
- 30:57Yeah.
- 30:58I think that's about when the shift really
- 31:00happened for him.
- 31:01When the true shift happened.
- 31:03Yeah.
- 31:03I would say so.
- 31:04It was starting in the development of it,
- 31:06I think was before that,
- 31:07but the real shift happened then.
- 31:08Yeah.
- 31:09So speaking on Jason's thing,
- 31:12or go ahead and beat that one.
- 31:14Uh, props to Jason for putting this,
- 31:16that out in public.
- 31:16Many athletes would not be that open and
- 31:19vulnerable,
- 31:19especially knowing how the CrossFit
- 31:20community can pile on people.
- 31:22Yeah.
- 31:23I actually wanted to bring this up and
- 31:24I didn't know when I was going to
- 31:26do it.
- 31:26Um,
- 31:27Vicki wrote an essay about Christianity in
- 31:30CrossFit.
- 31:30Yep.
- 31:32And I think this is a really good,
- 31:35why is someone like, so Jason,
- 31:38Jason talks about his faith a lot.
- 31:40Sure.
- 31:40Right.
- 31:41Right.
- 31:44he does not take the pile on like
- 31:48james sprague does when he talks about his
- 31:50faith no rich never took that on why
- 31:58is it that james is sectioned off and
- 32:03hit harder with that than other athletes
- 32:06colton's talked about his faith jason
- 32:09talks about his faith
- 32:11There's a lot of people in this community
- 32:13that have talked about their faith and
- 32:15nobody takes the heat like James Sprague
- 32:17has.
- 32:19Blows my mind completely.
- 32:22And here's the thing.
- 32:22James has led with that.
- 32:25Forever for as long as he's been around.
- 32:27So it's not like it's a secret and
- 32:28all of a sudden one day he was
- 32:30like this, you know,
- 32:31plastic Christian or whatever you want to
- 32:33call it.
- 32:34Like the dude's been talking about it
- 32:36forever and he still gets, like you said,
- 32:39piled on for it.
- 32:40I don't,
- 32:40I will never understand that in a million
- 32:43years.
- 32:43It blows my mind completely.
- 32:47Um,
- 32:50Trent says he's much more vocal about it
- 32:52and it has been and also not everyone
- 32:57likes his personality.
- 32:59I don't get that because,
- 33:01and I've been saying this for quite some
- 33:03time as well,
- 33:03you either love James Spring or you're
- 33:05wrong.
- 33:07He's a giant puppy dog for all intents
- 33:10and purposes.
- 33:10He is a Labrador retriever.
- 33:12He has the same syndrome as Noah.
- 33:17Nobody believes that they're that nice.
- 33:20Everybody believes it's fake.
- 33:23Here's the difference.
- 33:26I understand a thing about Noah because
- 33:28for the longest time,
- 33:29it just seemed fake to me when it
- 33:32came out of Noah's mouth.
- 33:33It just did.
- 33:34I don't know why.
- 33:35Just a feeling that I had.
- 33:37Nothing personal against him.
- 33:39I just didn't believe it.
- 33:41With James, it just feels better to me.
- 33:44It feels normal.
- 33:45It feels like that's how that dude is
- 33:46all the time.
- 33:47So I don't understand it.
- 33:52Every event I've ever been to with either
- 33:56James or Noah.
- 33:59Noah is always the last person off the
- 34:01floor because he's taking pictures.
- 34:03He's doing all the things.
- 34:06And I've seen it behind the scenes.
- 34:08It is as genuine as you have ever
- 34:11seen.
- 34:14It is...
- 34:16And James is the same way.
- 34:18Every time I've been around James,
- 34:19he is the same individual you see in
- 34:22public.
- 34:25They are two of the most authentic people
- 34:27I've seen in the sport.
- 34:28Yeah, I can see that.
- 34:32Like I said,
- 34:32I don't – and I try to reserve
- 34:35judgment on stuff like that because I know
- 34:37how I feel,
- 34:38and I've never actually met Noah.
- 34:42So it might be, you know, like,
- 34:45like exactly like you said,
- 34:45like I might actually meet him in person
- 34:47and go, oh yeah, no,
- 34:48he's just like that all the time.
- 34:49Okay, cool.
- 34:49So I, I can admit,
- 34:51I was just like you,
- 34:52I was not a Noah fan.
- 34:53Noah was, you know,
- 34:54I heard one thing that he said about,
- 34:56he was gonna be take the mantle from
- 34:58Rich in and I never let him live
- 35:01it down.
- 35:02And then I met him in person.
- 35:03Then I did an interview with him on
- 35:05this show and I fell in love with
- 35:07that dude.
- 35:08Yeah.
- 35:10Like, he is such a great dude.
- 35:17I don't think James tries to be perfect.
- 35:20I really don't.
- 35:23I think people expect or think that he's
- 35:25trying to be some sort of way,
- 35:27and he's really, really not.
- 35:30He almost legitimately got in an actual
- 35:33fight with Jason when they were messing
- 35:37around that day.
- 35:40That's a thing that actually happened.
- 35:42You could see that dude was not okay.
- 35:46And that's part of being...
- 35:47That's one of the few times which I
- 35:50think more people should see that because
- 35:52that's human.
- 35:54He lost his temper.
- 35:56And I think he's got a lot of
- 35:56temper to lose because it almost happened
- 35:58again.
- 35:59He said it himself right then and there.
- 36:02He said, no, no, no.
- 36:03That bird, that was real.
- 36:04He said, that was me being like...
- 36:07I felt like he threw it at me.
- 36:08I didn't like that.
- 36:09So I flipped him off.
- 36:12Yeah, I...
- 36:15So I think this is the thing,
- 36:18and Trent says people like to see that
- 36:19versus the curated life.
- 36:21I don't think it's a curated life.
- 36:23I think genuinely James is trying to learn
- 36:27how to live the best life he can
- 36:29to glorify God.
- 36:31Yeah, I think so too.
- 36:32Right?
- 36:33And if you deem that as curated,
- 36:36that's on you.
- 36:38Like he's doing that for himself because
- 36:41even though we flipped off Ricky,
- 36:42he did also say that I should learn
- 36:45from that and I should try to be
- 36:47better about that.
- 36:49Yeah.
- 36:49He's also what?
- 36:50Twenty three.
- 36:54So like,
- 36:55I wish I had that conviction when I
- 36:56was twenty three.
- 36:58That's what I was fixing to say.
- 36:59Like for him to him to even had
- 37:00that conviction or to be that self-aware
- 37:02to say something happened.
- 37:05I reacted to it.
- 37:06I reacted badly or I feel I reacted
- 37:08badly.
- 37:09Right.
- 37:10And to say that maybe I should I
- 37:12should be better about that at twenty
- 37:14three.
- 37:16If you threw something at me while I
- 37:17was doing something,
- 37:18when I was twenty three,
- 37:19you'd be lucky to get just a finger
- 37:21because I'd probably like it probably
- 37:23would have been a whole lot worse because
- 37:25I had I had my temper was out
- 37:27of control back then.
- 37:29Now, whatever I, you know,
- 37:31let it let it fly off the handle.
- 37:33But at twenty three for him,
- 37:34that had that kind of just be able
- 37:35to self reflect like that.
- 37:38That's outstanding.
- 37:40If you think about the stuff that James
- 37:42went through as a child,
- 37:44his dad was an alcoholic.
- 37:45He was a child of divorce.
- 37:48Chan is right.
- 37:48He was also overweight,
- 37:49probably teased all of that to come out.
- 37:53And at twenty three, know who you are.
- 37:56It's wild.
- 37:59And because he knows who he is,
- 38:01he is the most dangerous male athlete in
- 38:03the CrossFit space.
- 38:07Absolutely.
- 38:09You have to have the self-reflection post
- 38:11that Jason did because he already knows
- 38:14who he is.
- 38:16Yeah.
- 38:16Does he want to be better?
- 38:18Yes.
- 38:18But he knows one hundred percent without a
- 38:21doubt who he is.
- 38:28Jason posted that thing and then it made
- 38:31me think about some stuff that I had
- 38:33been I've been working on here lately as
- 38:35well is
- 38:37And then a couple of the, you know,
- 38:39semifinals and games level type athletes
- 38:42that I know that also talked about it
- 38:43is if that's been your thing,
- 38:47like you just want to win,
- 38:48you just want to win,
- 38:49you just want to win,
- 38:49you just want to win, right?
- 38:51Or you set these goals and you hit
- 38:52them.
- 38:52You set these goals and you hit them.
- 38:53You set these goals and you hit them.
- 38:55After a while,
- 38:56it feels almost like it's routine.
- 38:59And so you get to a point where
- 39:01you go –
- 39:02I don't even know how I feel about
- 39:04this because I I've never done anything
- 39:06else.
- 39:07Right now, Jason's one he's lost, right?
- 39:10He was terrible.
- 39:10His first couple of games,
- 39:11everybody knows that it's no secret.
- 39:13Then he came around and won and whatnot,
- 39:15but to have that kind of,
- 39:17for him to even have the self-reflection
- 39:19enough to say,
- 39:21is it just about winning?
- 39:22Is it just about being as good as
- 39:24I possibly can be?
- 39:25And maybe winning is the side effect or
- 39:28possibly not because maybe my good enough
- 39:30isn't good enough, you know,
- 39:34for him again,
- 39:36because we all know that for whatever
- 39:37reason,
- 39:38Jason gets the big dumb animal tag
- 39:41attached,
- 39:42attached to him on a regular basis.
- 39:44And clearly he's not right.
- 39:46The dude's not, I mean, he's not,
- 39:48you know,
- 39:49sending rocket ships out into space by any
- 39:51stretch of the imagination,
- 39:52but he's also not an idiot by any
- 39:55stretch of the imagination.
- 39:57Finding out what they were going through
- 39:58right before he got to the games,
- 40:01so he's got all that stuff on his
- 40:02mind, still going through it and whatnot,
- 40:04and it probably put a whole lot of
- 40:06stuff in perspective for him.
- 40:09What does this actually mean?
- 40:11Is this all there is to it?
- 40:13You're looking forward to this thing,
- 40:15and now all of a sudden it's gone,
- 40:17snatched out of your hands.
- 40:19That's a lot, dude.
- 40:21I just think it was a cool peek
- 40:23into what his mindset has been.
- 40:26And he was welcoming people's thoughts,
- 40:29which is really interesting.
- 40:33Barry is really wanting us to talk about
- 40:36Xenon and Reebok.
- 40:39I believe that they had Reebok in Texas
- 40:42as well.
- 40:45I have no idea.
- 40:46I wouldn't have.
- 40:47I believe Reebok has been a sponsor all
- 40:49along.
- 40:49Oh, it just hasn't been like a...
- 40:54I think it came back into...
- 40:57I think they were a late sponsor into
- 41:00the game with Xenon.
- 41:00Okay.
- 41:02But now they are everywhere.
- 41:04I believe that Volunteer's got Reebok
- 41:06shoes and all of that stuff.
- 41:09Reebok getting back into CrossFit with
- 41:11Xenon is huge.
- 41:11Wonder why they are working with Xenon and
- 41:14not CrossFit.
- 41:16what I think Barry,
- 41:17you have to understand is a lot of
- 41:19the people behind Xenon are CrossFit
- 41:21people.
- 41:24It is a CrossFit sanctioned event.
- 41:27CrossFit is an official partner of Xenon.
- 41:30Yeah.
- 41:31As Bert said, they got, uh,
- 41:33they got Reebok shoes.
- 41:36Um, and Patrick says they were also, uh,
- 41:40sponsored the French throwdown.
- 41:42Reebok has never left CrossFit in Europe.
- 41:44Um,
- 41:46They have a lot of European athletes still
- 41:48on their roster.
- 41:49Yep.
- 41:52And I still, you know,
- 41:54all the flashy new shoes that come around,
- 41:56like the Strike Movements and the Adidas
- 41:59and all those,
- 42:02Reebok still puts out some really nice
- 42:04looking shoes.
- 42:05They really do.
- 42:06I will say that.
- 42:07If nothing else,
- 42:10they've never gotten like, I say never,
- 42:13they've mostly never gotten crazy with
- 42:14their designs or anything like that.
- 42:16You can still see a Nano is a
- 42:18Nano.
- 42:19You can tell from whoever's doing their
- 42:22designs,
- 42:22it's not a wild leap from year to
- 42:24year.
- 42:29It's a lot more of an evolution.
- 42:30I like that.
- 42:33Ortega,
- 42:34that is way oversimplifying what happened
- 42:36with Reebok.
- 42:40There were lawsuits between CrossFit and
- 42:42Reebok before it ended.
- 42:43Yeah, it's pretty bad.
- 42:47And because of that,
- 42:49that's why the relationship ended.
- 42:52There were questions as to whether Reebok
- 42:55was short-cutting the money that they owed
- 42:57CrossFit using the Reebok store as the
- 43:00CrossFit store.
- 43:03Greg Glassman said things about Reebok and
- 43:06their shoes that were not kind.
- 43:11Yes, Reebok brought in a lot of money.
- 43:13Yes, Reebok dumped a ton into the sport.
- 43:17It was not a great relationship at all
- 43:19times.
- 43:20No.
- 43:25And I believe that because of that
- 43:27relationship,
- 43:28when CrossFit saw an opportunity to jump
- 43:31at Noble,
- 43:33they just ditched Reebok and went to Noble
- 43:38in hopes of a better relationship.
- 43:42And we saw how that turned out.
- 43:46I will throw shade at Noble any chance
- 43:48I get because they make the worst shoes
- 43:49on the face of the planet.
- 43:51And I will die on that hill.
- 43:54I hope what Patrick's saying is correct,
- 43:57that they're slowly trying to integrate
- 43:59again instead of just, hey,
- 44:01here's a gazillion dollars, go with it.
- 44:04Because that makes a lot more sense.
- 44:06It's better for them, and honestly,
- 44:07it's better for us.
- 44:08Do we need money in the sport?
- 44:10The sport side, not the training side?
- 44:12Yeah, absolutely.
- 44:14But we saw what happened.
- 44:18It blew up.
- 44:20right games are on espn blah blah blah
- 44:22and as soon as that money dried up
- 44:25got sideways and it happened quickly and
- 44:28it i mean we've been we've been struggling
- 44:30for sponsors we've been struggling for
- 44:31this we've been struggling for that like
- 44:33it's been an entire thing so i think
- 44:35it's a lot better if it's okay we
- 44:37slowly reintegrate ourselves and now we
- 44:40can do this and then now we can
- 44:41do that and then now we can do
- 44:43that until it builds up into a thing
- 44:46Here's the deal.
- 44:47Reebok doesn't make money at the games.
- 44:49They make money at the affiliate.
- 44:53Affiliate numbers are down.
- 44:58You're not just sponsoring the games.
- 45:01You're sponsoring the games to get into
- 45:03the affiliate.
- 45:05Those are the numbers you're looking to
- 45:08capture when you're sponsoring the games.
- 45:12We need to grow the affiliates to get
- 45:14the sponsor back for the games.
- 45:17The numbers are way too low of number
- 45:20of affiliates in the world for a major
- 45:23sponsor to jump back in.
- 45:26Yep.
- 45:30That's the issue.
- 45:35Did you see Tears jumping back into
- 45:37Wadapalooza a little bit as the shoe
- 45:39sponsor?
- 45:40I did not, but...
- 45:42Care got a lot of money.
- 45:43Good.
- 45:45Well, they were the main sponsor.
- 45:46Now they're just the shoe sponsor.
- 45:48Jim Reapers is the main sponsor.
- 45:50Yeah.
- 45:52Jim Reapers seems to be kind of...
- 45:55I won't say stacking their chips,
- 45:57but they definitely are pushing in the
- 45:59right direction as far as I'm concerned.
- 46:01Getting into the space, they said, hey,
- 46:03we see an opportunity here.
- 46:06When they first started,
- 46:08I'll say moving away because I'm sure they
- 46:10still do their bodybuilding type clothes
- 46:13and whatnot,
- 46:13but moving more towards the CrossFit side
- 46:17of things seems to be working out for
- 46:19them, so good on them.
- 46:23Ken Walters,
- 46:24you're giving nobles way more credit than
- 46:25I can.
- 46:26I can't even wear them in my own
- 46:28house to get from my desk to the
- 46:31sink.
- 46:33They hurt my feet so bad.
- 46:37I've never even put a pair on,
- 46:39if I'm being completely honest.
- 46:40But I've grabbed a couple to check them
- 46:43out.
- 46:43Like, hey,
- 46:44let me look at this and whatnot.
- 46:45And as soon as I picked it up,
- 46:46I was like, mm-mm.
- 46:49You might as well pick up a Dutch
- 46:52clog.
- 46:53Yeah.
- 46:55Only less flexible.
- 47:01Yes.
- 47:01Like running on two by fours.
- 47:03Yeah.
- 47:04No, thank you.
- 47:06No, thank you.
- 47:12I had friends give me their nobles when
- 47:14they hated them.
- 47:16Yeah.
- 47:16I actually had someone send me hand
- 47:18painted nobles with my logo on them.
- 47:22and I've worn them two times.
- 47:27Bert said the clogs are more comfortable.
- 47:33telling you amanda amanda i've said this a
- 47:35couple of different times i'm sure one
- 47:37here but like my wife really thought she
- 47:39liked nobles she really really did and
- 47:42then would complain that her back hurt and
- 47:44her feet hurt and she didn't understand
- 47:45why and finally one day i just bought
- 47:47her a pair of nanos didn't tell her
- 47:50didn't warn her did anything they came in
- 47:52i was like here she came back from
- 47:55the gym the next morning and i was
- 47:58like how's your feet and she said they
- 47:59don't hurt and i was like i imagine
- 48:00that
- 48:04This is my one surprise face.
- 48:10I probably should just hang the logoed
- 48:13ones on my wall back there because they're
- 48:15never going on my feet again.
- 48:18We lost Vicky because her power went out.
- 48:20Apparently the storms that raced through
- 48:22Columbus have now headed south to
- 48:25Tennessee.
- 48:26Damn!
- 48:33Yep.
- 48:34What else?
- 48:35I don't even I the only other things
- 48:37I have on here like way off the
- 48:38rails.
- 48:41I'm going to end with this.
- 48:42So my wife and I watch America's Got
- 48:45Talent as just a show to like,
- 48:49turn your brain off and watch.
- 48:50Yes, yes, exactly.
- 48:52Sure.
- 48:52So there was there was a girl on
- 48:54there.
- 48:54Amazing voice and she sang an Evanescence
- 48:57song.
- 48:57Okay.
- 49:00Can I tell you that Evanescence is the
- 49:02most frustrating band I've ever listened
- 49:05to in my life?
- 49:06Yeah, I can believe that.
- 49:09And I know I'm not a songwriter,
- 49:13but the music never matches the amazing
- 49:18voice that she has.
- 49:22And it's Amy Lee.
- 49:26One of the greatest voices in rock
- 49:28history.
- 49:29Agreed.
- 49:32and the bring me back to life is
- 49:37that the name of the song bring me
- 49:39to life bring me to life yeah love
- 49:41that song but the angst and the emotion
- 49:45that she puts in her voice is not
- 49:47matched by the band at all no the
- 49:50music is kind of mediocre and the vocals
- 49:53her vocals make that song by far i
- 49:56want it to build and it never does
- 49:58and it's like that with every one of
- 50:00their songs
- 50:03And so, yeah.
- 50:05I don't know why I wanted to say
- 50:06that.
- 50:07Tessa wants to know, do I like Seether?
- 50:09I love Seether.
- 50:12Saw them in concert.
- 50:14They were freaking amazing.
- 50:15It's a good band.
- 50:17Let me say something.
- 50:19Don't have to worry about the band kicking
- 50:20it up with that group.
- 50:22No.
- 50:27Yeah, I went to...
- 50:29It used to be called Rock on the
- 50:30Range here in Columbus.
- 50:32Saw...
- 50:35cedar shine down slash did you know from
- 50:41south africa what's that cedar or a south
- 50:46african rock man really everything on
- 50:52everything on uh the the google here i'll
- 50:59be damn i did not know that
- 51:02yeah so i saw see their theory of
- 51:04a dead man shine down slash oh and
- 51:10uh yeah yeah you had me at shine
- 51:11down rob zombie and limp biscuit all in
- 51:14the same day you had me at shine
- 51:20down love love love love shine down in
- 51:22my top ten bands of all time yeah
- 51:26So you say divorce dad rock, Daniel,
- 51:30but there's actually another word,
- 51:32another term for that,
- 51:34that people have been using.
- 51:35And so it's the, it's all the,
- 51:39like that kind of voice rock.
- 51:41And they call it butt rock.
- 51:44And the reason they called it butt rock
- 51:46is because like in the early two
- 51:47thousands, right?
- 51:48Late nineties to early mid two thousands,
- 51:50it was the rock stations would come on
- 51:52and most of them would like, you know,
- 51:54they all had the,
- 51:55they were all corporate owned at that
- 51:56point and it was nothing but rock.
- 51:59And so they just kind of shortened that
- 52:01to butt rock and then just kind of
- 52:03lumped all those bands together.
- 52:04And like,
- 52:05who's your favorite butt rock artist?
- 52:10I, uh,
- 52:12So I think we've talked about it on
- 52:13the show.
- 52:14I was in Tallahassee when Creed went big.
- 52:17Creed was from Tallahassee.
- 52:19Saw them at local bars.
- 52:22all that kind of stuff.
- 52:23And, uh,
- 52:25that they were the starters of butt rock,
- 52:27apparently a hundred percent.
- 52:28Oh, they're, they're, it's one of the,
- 52:30it's one of the biggest ones is them.
- 52:33I mean, that's, it's, that's how he's,
- 52:34that's how Scott's thing.
- 52:35Yeah.
- 52:36Like all the time.
- 52:40Exactly.
- 52:41Exactly that.
- 52:43Um, so anyway, there it is.
- 52:46I'll leave you with this.
- 52:47Um, do you know who Tyrus is?
- 52:50i don't think so it sounds like i
- 52:52should so he was a wrestler he was
- 52:54a football player he's been on fox news
- 52:57um but he was snoop dogg's bodyguard okay
- 53:02so he has a podcast i've never watched
- 53:05it before this morning and he had kennedy
- 53:07from mtv on oh and they were talking
- 53:10about people they've met that was such a
- 53:12letdown oh i'm sure
- 53:16And Tyrus tells a story of a young
- 53:18artist that Snoop said, hey,
- 53:19keep an eye on this guy.
- 53:21Take him to this club.
- 53:23The kid, it was Grammy week.
- 53:25He had one big hit song.
- 53:27He was up for best new artist.
- 53:29Walks into the club.
- 53:30Nobody recognizes him.
- 53:34And he's like,
- 53:35you don't know who I am?
- 53:35And they're like, no,
- 53:36we don't know who you are.
- 53:37Sorry.
- 53:39So this young artist looks at Tyrus and
- 53:41his buddy Tiny and says, hey,
- 53:42we need to go outside and regroup.
- 53:44And they're like, what?
- 53:45And so they walk outside and the guy's
- 53:49like, hey,
- 53:50you need to go in there and tell
- 53:51them who I am and that I'm up
- 53:53for a Grammy and I deserve a table.
- 53:57And so Tiny goes in,
- 53:58he comes back out and they're like,
- 54:00they still don't know who you are.
- 54:01yeah sorry not sorry so tyrus goes in
- 54:04and says hey this is who he is
- 54:06have you this is the song that's made
- 54:09him somewhat big and um and the woman's
- 54:14like listen i got robert ory i've got
- 54:18penny marshall i've got and she just lists
- 54:21off all these people that have tables yeah
- 54:24she's like it's gonna be fifteen grand and
- 54:26i need his credit card right now and
- 54:29it was chris brown
- 54:32chris breezy that's fantastic that's
- 54:38fantastic that's what you get i'm gonna
- 54:41say this that's what you get for being
- 54:43that dude yep that do you know who
- 54:46i am dude no nobody knows who you
- 54:48are they listed off people that did of
- 54:51people they ran into that were just awful
- 54:54yeah it was hilarious it is it's a
- 54:57clip from the main podcast that you can
- 54:59get separately it's only like seven
- 55:01minutes long
- 55:03funniest thing is kennedy tells the story
- 55:05of warren g hitting on her oh and
- 55:08she's like i don't know why he was
- 55:10infatuated with me i don't know why he
- 55:12wanted to get with me and tyrus goes
- 55:15that's because he's a regulator and he
- 55:16wanted to mount up he's trying to mount
- 55:19up regulator that is fantastic i think i
- 55:27spit my coffee out when he said that
- 55:28but yeah i probably would have to oh
- 55:32that's um
- 55:38Terry D, I never knew that about Creed.
- 55:40My son goes to school there.
- 55:42I'm often in Talley.
- 55:44What school?
- 55:46Florida State?
- 55:48Florida A&M?
- 55:53I loved my time in Tallahassee.
- 55:55It was a different culture.
- 55:56It was a different world.
- 55:58I'm glad I only did it for four
- 56:00years, but while I was there,
- 56:01I had fun.
- 56:03Florida is a thing of and unto itself.
- 56:08So let's go ahead and get that out
- 56:09of the way.
- 56:10FSU is such a beautiful campus.
- 56:14Dude, have you ever been to Auburn?
- 56:16I know.
- 56:18So a couple years ago, we went to,
- 56:21brought the kids to,
- 56:23it's an indoor water park,
- 56:25right basically on the state line between
- 56:28Alabama and Georgia.
- 56:32And we went,
- 56:33we were having to be right by Auburn.
- 56:34And I was like,
- 56:34I want to go see it.
- 56:35I've never been, whatever.
- 56:37It's the most beautiful campus I've ever
- 56:38seen.
- 56:40it's incredible it's a small school it's a
- 56:42much smaller school than i than i
- 56:44anticipated apparently the entire town is
- 56:46named auburn which i also did not know
- 56:51it's like we got there and like you
- 56:53know the the ways or navigation whatever
- 56:55was like yeah you're in auburn now i'm
- 56:56like are we though apparently the whole
- 56:59town is named auburn but
- 57:02manicured like the, it was incredible.
- 57:07It was, the place was beautiful.
- 57:09I've never seen a college campus look
- 57:10anywhere near that.
- 57:11And I, and LSU is pretty nice.
- 57:14So I,
- 57:15we went up to visit Jamie and she
- 57:16lives in Lansing, Michigan,
- 57:19and that's the home of Michigan state
- 57:21university.
- 57:21So I thought, Hey, we're here, Julie,
- 57:23let's go over, check out Michigan state.
- 57:25I cannot say that I had the same
- 57:27experience you had at Auburn.
- 57:35Here's this.
- 57:36I'm going to hear about it this afternoon.
- 57:38Yeah, absolutely.
- 57:40No, I can.
- 57:44It was not manicured.
- 57:47The whole place was all outstanding.
- 57:49I said, and like winter saying LSU campus,
- 57:52LSU campus is really, really nice.
- 57:54It's in a super like nice neighbor,
- 57:57you know, nice part of Baton Rouge.
- 57:58Well,
- 57:58depending on what side of it you're on.
- 58:00um but i got we got to auburn
- 58:03and i it was a whole different it
- 58:05was a whole different thing like it took
- 58:08what i was used to and went well
- 58:10past that it was amazing dancing is toilet
- 58:13water well one of my best friends in
- 58:18the world lives there so it can't be
- 58:20all bad but yeah
- 58:25Beaver Stadium at Penn State is pretty
- 58:26good.
- 58:27Amen, Joseph.
- 58:28That's God's country right there.
- 58:30If you go to Happy Valley, Pennsylvania,
- 58:32that is pure God country right there.
- 58:36You're in a valley surrounded by
- 58:39mountains.
- 58:39It is gorgeous.
- 58:45And Joseph and I will take anyone on
- 58:46that wants to fight us on that.
- 58:49Um,
- 58:51so Daniel asked me who my favorite emo
- 58:52band is.
- 58:54I am too old for the term emo.
- 58:56I don't even understand what that means.
- 59:01Like my daughter kept trying to tell me
- 59:02emo and it sounded like what we called
- 59:05alternative, which is, and honestly,
- 59:08it's not,
- 59:09it might be like the newer version of
- 59:10that.
- 59:12right an alternative was alternative music
- 59:15was what we could was what grunge
- 59:17basically turned into right like it's all
- 59:19the same it's all played on the same
- 59:21alternative is like depeche mode erasure
- 59:23gene loves jezebel new order new order
- 59:27bizarre love triangle like emotional rock
- 59:35it isn't all music emotional of some sort
- 59:39i would hope it is
- 59:42if it's not honestly i just don't even
- 59:46know how to answer your question because i
- 59:47don't know what that genre is if you
- 59:50could explain it to me i will tell
- 59:51you who i like from that genre because
- 59:53i know there is someone so throw out
- 59:55some names and we could probably go from
- 59:57there i mean emotional rock to me is
- 1:00:01celine dion like she cries in every song
- 1:00:03i don't think i would qualify her as
- 1:00:06rock but yeah okay
- 1:00:12Scott throwing me back to my club days.
- 1:00:14I was big into all music in the
- 1:00:17eighties.
- 1:00:17Like all those bands I listened to,
- 1:00:19listen to all the time.
- 1:00:21Every time I see you falling,
- 1:00:24I get down on my knees and pray.
- 1:00:29Don't start with me.
- 1:00:30We've had this, we've had this discussion.
- 1:00:35It's a blessing and a curse.
- 1:00:37If I listen to a song and I
- 1:00:38like it, it takes me about two, two,
- 1:00:40two times through.
- 1:00:44That's for me.
- 1:00:49Oh my God.
- 1:00:52Uh, T money.
- 1:00:52I bet you were the,
- 1:00:54the fun one in the clubs.
- 1:00:56So I spent my nineties in clubs doing
- 1:00:58this cause I was bouncing.
- 1:01:02Yeah.
- 1:01:03That's unsurprising.
- 1:01:04Uh, get that drink off the dance floor.
- 1:01:06Yeah.
- 1:01:07Get out of here with that.
- 1:01:08Don't make me kick your ass.
- 1:01:13trained adam from tbs i don't even know
- 1:01:16what that means all right with that i
- 1:01:23don't know never heard of this never heard
- 1:01:26of that so i guess i don't know
- 1:01:32emo

- 1:01:37Phillips.
- 1:01:37Emo Phillips.
- 1:01:39That dude was so weird.
- 1:01:41He was so weird.
- 1:01:42Oh, my God.
- 1:01:44I thought about that dude.
- 1:01:46Oh, Lord.

- 1:01:49I'm going to be original.
- 1:01:50You ain't ever going to be that.
- 1:01:53You probably don't want to be either,
- 1:01:55if we're being completely honest.
- 1:01:57He was popular about the same time
- 1:01:59Gallagher was popular, right?
- 1:02:01I would say that's pretty much
- 1:02:03contemporary history.
