- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: This is Alice Cooper, the original Techno Todd, and you're
- 0:06Speaker 1: listening to tech Talk Radio. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:11Speaker 1: tech Talk Radio.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Weird, and I'm Justin Lemey.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome. Well, it's good to have jo justin back. Oh
- 0:18Speaker 1: my gosh, god, I almost forgot how to do this. Yeah,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you can't forget.
- 0:22Speaker 3: How to do I forgot the Colorado existed.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, right, what really bothers me? As we were
- 0:29Speaker 1: talking pre show here and Justine says it's warm in Colorado, Like,
- 0:33Speaker 1: how how could it be warm in Colorado?
- 0:35Speaker 2: It's been like sixty degrees almost every single day since
- 0:39Speaker 2: the beginning of December. We had one minor storm come
- 0:42Speaker 2: through where the Denver metro area got maybe half an
- 0:48Speaker 2: inch in snow. Yeah, but the mountains got maybe like
- 0:50Speaker 2: six or seven inches. But it doesn't really affect us
- 0:53Speaker 2: down here. I've I've had to actually go out and
- 0:56Speaker 2: hook up my water spigot and water my plants and
- 1:00Speaker 2: trees three times since October. Late October when we first
- 1:04Speaker 2: turned off the sprinklers. I don't water the grass. The
- 1:06Speaker 2: grass you wanted just to stay dormant, but the trees
- 1:10Speaker 2: and the plants and stuff, I water them. It's gotten
- 1:13Speaker 2: so warm that we're actually having tulip buds out, and
- 1:18Speaker 2: I'm like, no, no, no, no, in the.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Winter to sleep, go back to sleep, please. How about you, Sean,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I mean, I know that you're in Indiana, so you
- 1:27Speaker 1: get like really weird weather there, don't you.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we've we've already received like sixty inches of snow
- 1:33Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:34Speaker 1: What wow? Sixty we had?
- 1:37Speaker 3: We had We had at least eighteen inches of snow
- 1:39Speaker 3: week the week before Thanksgiving. We got dumped on and
- 1:42Speaker 3: then it stayed and continued to snow, and then a
- 1:44Speaker 3: couple of weeks later we got another fourteen inches.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean, and it was.
- 1:49Speaker 3: The heavy, thick, wet snow, so it's like it was
- 1:53Speaker 3: icy and then it's just been icy and cold and
- 1:55Speaker 3: freezing rain. And then four days ago was sixty degrees
- 1:59Speaker 3: and then four hours later it was thirty eight degrees.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We got during the day, but then we'll get down
- 2:06Speaker 2: to like thirty or twenty five at night.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Right, Andy, here's a weather term. Have you ever heard
- 2:11Speaker 3: of freezing fog?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Oh?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it gets the ground temperature is still
- 2:17Speaker 3: warm enough that it creates a bunch of fog, and
- 2:20Speaker 3: then the air temperature drops and it freezes, and then
- 2:25Speaker 3: it freezes on the roads.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Wow, you could have been in Las Vegas last week
- 2:30Speaker 1: where it was. You know, well, if you would have
- 2:32Speaker 1: sent us there, Andy, next year, next year, next year,
- 2:36Speaker 1: we got to go. I mean when I was, I
- 2:39Speaker 1: was kind of wondering because you know, the CS is
- 2:41Speaker 1: wrapped up. It wrapped up last week. Everybody heads home.
- 2:45Speaker 1: They get to disseminate all of that info for the
- 2:48Speaker 1: different ideas, different products. I was surprised because Justin and
- 2:51Speaker 1: I talked about this last week. We were talking about
- 2:54Speaker 1: everything's AI. You know, everything is going to be integrated,
- 2:57Speaker 1: that is true AI into technology. But we saw some
- 3:00Speaker 1: things that were a little different. One of the things
- 3:04Speaker 1: that kind of made and we've talked televisions before, but
- 3:08Speaker 1: in OLED was the thing. Now it's this micro RGB
- 3:11Speaker 1: technology that everybody's talking about and I don't understand it.
- 3:16Speaker 1: They just say it's brighter, more clarity with text when
- 3:20Speaker 1: you're looking at a text on the screen. What did
- 3:21Speaker 1: you what did you call it? Micro RGB more clarity?
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't know, have you guys had a chance to
- 3:28Speaker 1: look into this at all.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I've not heard that, you know, not seeing the micro
- 3:32Speaker 2: RGB thing yet.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah, apparently Samsung announced a Giants one hundred and thirty
- 3:38Speaker 1: inch television using that technology, and there's no idea on
- 3:45Speaker 1: the pricing. But when they pull one out at one
- 3:47Speaker 1: hundred and fifteen inches last year, the price tag was
- 3:50Speaker 1: thirty thousand dollars. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 2: See, even if you look up micro RGB on the
- 3:56Speaker 2: internet right now, you're gonna see pictures. The pictures don't
- 3:59Speaker 2: do it justice. No, you're not going to be able
- 4:01Speaker 2: to understand the true scale of this unless you see
- 4:06Speaker 2: it in person.
- 4:08Speaker 1: That's why I think, you know, Best Buy was smart
- 4:11Speaker 1: to do their Magnolia Home theater so they could put
- 4:14Speaker 1: the technology because you can't I'm sorry, you cannot buy
- 4:18Speaker 1: a television online. People say, yeah, you can't, but honestly,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I think you have to go somewhere and see it.
- 4:25Speaker 1: And even then it's difficult because it's not going to
- 4:28Speaker 1: be in the same environment that maybe you have at
- 4:30Speaker 1: your home. You look at Sean, you look at having
- 4:33Speaker 1: a TV in there would be different if it was
- 4:36Speaker 1: injustice or if it was in mind you you have
- 4:39Speaker 1: different color settings, a different pattern, where the room is,
- 4:42Speaker 1: where it's going to fall. That that's why they do they.
- 4:46Speaker 2: You know, there's there's a small subset of specialists that
- 4:52Speaker 2: will actually come out to your house and they will
- 4:54Speaker 2: fine tune your television to your viewing environment.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Right if you will.
- 5:02Speaker 2: You basically meet with them. They'll say, okay, how do
- 5:05Speaker 2: you normally like the lights? You know, let's set the
- 5:07Speaker 2: lights at the right level, and then they use all
- 5:09Speaker 2: these like really fine tune tools. I guess you can
- 5:13Speaker 2: say to just fine tune the TV to make sure
- 5:16Speaker 2: that it has the perfect picture for that particular environment.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But you're also paying a lot of money for that.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I remember when the first one hundred inch television
- 5:27Speaker 1: came out. Me and Jim Barry mayhe rest in peace.
- 5:31Speaker 1: We were at CEES that year when they introduced that
- 5:33Speaker 1: one hundred inch television, and that was one of the
- 5:36Speaker 1: things you would have to pay. Somebody from I think
- 5:41Speaker 1: it might have been Sam Sung. They would come out
- 5:43Speaker 1: and they would install it. They would go ahead, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and they would set it for the room, the whole bit,
- 5:47Speaker 1: because they wanted you to be like a showroom for them.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Because people going to come over to your place and
- 5:52Speaker 1: see this TV that you've dropped a lot of money on,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and hopefully they'll end up wanting to buy one. The
- 5:58Speaker 1: same thing goes for audio.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I mean, you get a nice surround sound system, you
- 6:02Speaker 2: can actually pay somebody to come out and just place
- 6:05Speaker 2: those speakers perfectly.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And then even if you can't place the speak it
- 6:09Speaker 1: perfectly perfectly, they will.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Fine tune those speakers to where you can place them right.
- 6:15Speaker 2: But it also costs a lot of money.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Isn't there like when it comes to audio in like
- 6:21Speaker 1: television rooms and stuff. Isn't there audio now where it
- 6:24Speaker 1: can replicate the sound of a surround like a five,
- 6:27Speaker 1: you know, six speaker type of system or is that
- 6:31Speaker 1: just really that's really not going to do it a
- 6:33Speaker 1: little bit? I guess.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I mean yes, yes, the answer is yes, but it's
- 6:40Speaker 2: not going to be true. Like you, you're never going
- 6:43Speaker 2: to be able to replicate true surround sound with like
- 6:47Speaker 2: a soundbar. You can get close, right, but you're not
- 6:51Speaker 2: going to replicate it truthfully.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you may hear left and right, but the stuff
- 6:55Speaker 1: that's going.
- 6:56Speaker 2: On behind you even that you know, no, even that
- 7:00Speaker 2: you can replicate stuff behind you or on the sides, right,
- 7:03Speaker 2: But again it's it's not gonna be truthful to the
- 7:09Speaker 2: truth around sound.
- 7:10Speaker 1: If you can now sean, you have a home theater
- 7:12Speaker 1: where you're at, You've got a big screen that's to
- 7:15Speaker 1: your left that we kind of see a little taiale
- 7:18Speaker 1: of that in the background. What kind of sound did
- 7:19Speaker 1: you put in there? So when you watch in a
- 7:21Speaker 1: movie in this TV room, you've got you know, full sound.
- 7:26Speaker 3: So I have an Ankio receiver right have all my
- 7:29Speaker 3: device is going in and it's a five to one,
- 7:32Speaker 3: and so I've got the sub on the floor of
- 7:34Speaker 3: the center is just at the bottom of the screen.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I've got two satellites that are to the left and
- 7:41Speaker 3: the right of the screen. And I didn't I didn't
- 7:42Speaker 3: put any rare in, right, I just have it as
- 7:45Speaker 3: a four point one or a three point one right now?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Why why why did you not put rear speakers in?
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah, i'd have to run.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I just never got around to running.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Why not just use like rocket fish or something to
- 7:56Speaker 2: do wireless?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oh there you go.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Hm, never got around to it.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah, rocketfish that gives you the ability to expand that
- 8:04Speaker 1: almost like what it's like a Bluetooth connection. Eh. Yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I guess in a way he.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Uses Wi Fi, so it's a little bit a little
- 8:11Speaker 2: bit less latency because obviously, when you're talking about audio,
- 8:15Speaker 2: you don't want any latency at all.
- 8:17Speaker 1: So Rocketfish uses Wi Fi. I believe I could be
- 8:20Speaker 1: wrong for that, but but yeah, Rocketfish is a good
- 8:25Speaker 1: I used to use.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Rocketfish back in San Diego, Sean, when we had the
- 8:31Speaker 2: houses back in San Diego, I used Rocketfish for both
- 8:35Speaker 2: of those setups because in the apartment and in the
- 8:39Speaker 2: town home, I didn't want to run wires. I couldn't
- 8:41Speaker 2: run wires right right.
- 8:43Speaker 1: And I could.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I mean, I literally the wires are run. I just
- 8:46Speaker 3: never put the speakers in.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Oh no, okay, okay. So what you're saying is you're
- 8:49Speaker 1: just lazy, yes, or you gotta buy a ladder. That's
- 8:52Speaker 1: always my excuse.
- 8:53Speaker 2: You got a drop ceiling, don't you.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't want to.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Oh my god, you have no excuse, Sean, no excuse
- 9:03Speaker 2: that justin you've been out for almost five six weeks.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It's been a while. In the meantime, you did end
- 9:10Speaker 1: up buying yourself a brand new mixer for the audio
- 9:13Speaker 1: version of this, And I know there are people listening
- 9:15Speaker 1: that are saying, yeah, I want to start a podcast,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I want to do a video cast, I want to
- 9:19Speaker 1: do something you guys do. It may have looked into
- 9:21Speaker 1: Riverside FM or you know, they might still be there's
- 9:24Speaker 1: a lot of people out there that are still using
- 9:26Speaker 1: Zoom for doing you know, remote type of things. Okay,
- 9:29Speaker 1: but you decided to you needed to invest in a
- 9:33Speaker 1: mixer just to bring the sound up a bit.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the mixer was. The mixer that I
- 9:38Speaker 2: had was a Barringer mixer. It was starting to kind
- 9:41Speaker 2: of fail. Yeah, every time we would do pre show
- 9:43Speaker 2: and he's like, hey, turn up your mic, and I'm like.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I can't go any higher.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Captain Like, I'm just like, yeah, the mixer was dying.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So yeah, I went ahead and I bought this. Well,
- 9:57Speaker 2: actually I didn't buy it. I got it for Christmas.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It's a what is it called pup pup g SISU pgsis.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's a tiny little mixer. It's got two MIC inputs,
- 10:10Speaker 2: it's got a music input. It's USB controlled, so everything
- 10:14Speaker 2: is going through USB right now, even your microphone. I
- 10:18Speaker 2: plugged this mixer in and I have a sure microphone
- 10:21Speaker 2: like an actual true radio DJ microphone. Yeah, and I
- 10:25Speaker 2: plugged it in right, and I'm like, I'm not hearing anything,
- 10:29Speaker 2: Like why am I not hearing anything? And then it
- 10:31Speaker 2: come to find out that the shore requires forty eight
- 10:34Speaker 2: volt phantom like it does it requires per your set hour? Yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 10:39Speaker 2: And the Barringer mixer provided that, but this one doesn't.
- 10:42Speaker 2: So I had to buy another like forty dollars pre amp.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, preamp.
- 10:48Speaker 1: There is the word, yeah, primp.
- 10:51Speaker 2: And so I bought this pre amp and I just
- 10:53Speaker 2: literally hooked it up tonight because I haven't been around
- 10:56Speaker 2: tech talk so for a while, so I had needed
- 10:58Speaker 2: to but and he's like, hey, we're doing tech talk
- 11:00Speaker 2: and I'm like.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Oh, okay, let me go hook this up.
- 11:03Speaker 2: So I hooked it up and this is what you're
- 11:05Speaker 2: hearing me on. So the mixer itself is just a
- 11:08Speaker 2: little four channel mixer.
- 11:09Speaker 1: It looks like a little honestly, it looks like a
- 11:11Speaker 1: little gaming audio mixer. It really, honestly is.
- 11:14Speaker 2: It's not a professional mixer that you would probably find
- 11:18Speaker 2: in a in a true podcast or a radio DJ.
- 11:22Speaker 2: But I don't need that. I mean, I'm only doing
- 11:25Speaker 2: this and I don't really use this computer pretty much
- 11:28Speaker 2: for anything else except for doing tech talk radio. I
- 11:32Speaker 2: use my laptop for pretty much everything else. But anyway,
- 11:34Speaker 2: so the mixer has the microphone input.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It has music.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Input, which is basically any sound from the computer. So
- 11:41Speaker 2: if I want to listen to you guys, obviously it's
- 11:44Speaker 2: coming through the computer. It has to go through the mixer.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And then I have a monitor. But here's the coolest part.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I got this.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I got a reverb reverb, reverb, reverb, reverb, and I
- 11:57Speaker 2: also have all right, let's hear this roll.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Oh that's the best one. That's like a dayline episode.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I can also do this one a little bit, a
- 12:17Speaker 1: little bit deeper than me. You know, I had a
- 12:20Speaker 1: pretty deep voice as well. But yeah, I think this
- 12:23Speaker 1: one's better. And then I have this one.
- 12:25Speaker 3: This is a female voice author.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. Yeah, welcome to chat.
- 12:34Speaker 2: The world.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Wart voice which change? You just changed this on the
- 12:38Speaker 1: fly with an effects bank, Right, that's it? Oh yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 1: you're scaring people now, Okay, there's some kids saying, Mommy,
- 12:45Speaker 1: turn off the radio. The monsters on the radio.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I do have I do have a little bit of
- 12:52Speaker 2: like cool features on that, but I'm probably not going
- 12:54Speaker 2: to use them unless I play games and I want
- 12:56Speaker 2: to troll somebody that I might change my voice a
- 12:58Speaker 2: little bit.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You have, dude, you could do like twitch games or whatever.
- 13:02Speaker 1: You know, you just yeah, I could do that. It
- 13:04Speaker 1: just wear oh we're a hoodie, you wear wear like
- 13:07Speaker 1: a hoodie and then do that voice and the next
- 13:10Speaker 1: mister peanut when yeah, I think that's the name of
- 13:16Speaker 1: the show this week. The next mister peanut. Oh, man,
- 13:25Speaker 1: don't you love technology that came with the mixer? You're
- 13:29Speaker 1: having justin you're having way too much fun with this,
- 13:32Speaker 1: way too much. Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 2: O man, Hey, the whole setup, I mean, the mixer
- 13:38Speaker 2: mixer was like probably fifty sixty bucks. About a pre
- 13:42Speaker 2: amp was like forty, right, And obviously the credit goes to.
- 13:45Speaker 1: The Sure microphone. Sure.
- 13:46Speaker 2: This Sure SM seven B microphone is one of the
- 13:49Speaker 2: best microphones ever made.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Now Sure also has for podcasters. If anybody's thinking it's
- 13:56Speaker 1: doing doing this, they have the MV seven, which is
- 14:00Speaker 1: weird at the podcast or they have two models. One
- 14:03Speaker 1: is USB and XLR. XLR is what a lot of
- 14:07Speaker 1: professional mixers will, you know require as an input you're
- 14:10Speaker 1: gonna get you're gonna get better with the xl R.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Yeah you I think you do. Although I have a
- 14:16Speaker 1: fine USB. I have a couple of the USB micro
- 14:21Speaker 1: and they don't sound bad, you know, for somebody who
- 14:23Speaker 1: doesn't want to invest four hundred dollars into a microphone.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And now Sure has uh An s M seven that
- 14:30Speaker 1: actually has the cloudlifter pretty much built into it. And
- 14:34Speaker 1: for people don't understand cloudlifter, Matt on the who's been
- 14:38Speaker 1: has been a while since you've been on the show,
- 14:39Speaker 1: But Matt actually has a cloudlifter where it gives you
- 14:43Speaker 1: just more base, it gives it a little more resonance,
- 14:46Speaker 1: and it just it pumps up the audio much better.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And that's that's in their newest uh SM seven. So
- 14:53Speaker 1: if you're thinking about a microphone to have you cut
- 15:00Speaker 1: our commercials, yeah, that would be great. Glad you got
- 15:03Speaker 1: that set up. Sean is still doing his build of
- 15:06Speaker 1: his studio. You know, we're just trying to figure out
- 15:09Speaker 1: the lighting and then we found out that his desk
- 15:12Speaker 1: is so far away from the microphone that he had.
- 15:15Speaker 1: We're gonna get you a megaphone so that way we
- 15:18Speaker 1: can hear you. Sean, give a wireless mike, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I the d G I Mike. Don't you have one
- 15:22Speaker 1: of those? Can't you just use that?
- 15:24Speaker 3: I probably could. I don't have it here.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Do you actually have a Dji Mike? Really?
- 15:28Speaker 3: We use them at work.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Oh I didn't know that. So now why why would
- 15:32Speaker 1: somebody you use a Dji mike? All right?
- 15:35Speaker 3: Convenience?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, placement, Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I mean they're they have the Dji minise.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Now, the Mike minis. They're only like half.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Inch maybe just over a half inch by half inch really,
- 15:49Speaker 3: and you can you can get them with the little
- 15:50Speaker 3: windscreen on them and they just clip on there, you know,
- 15:54Speaker 3: discreet enough, you can clip them right to a lapel.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Right, let me ask you, guys, do do you get
- 15:59Speaker 1: up set when you're watching somebody that's doing a video
- 16:03Speaker 1: cast on YouTube or or Instagram or TikTok or whatever,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and they're talking to somebody and they're holding that little
- 16:10Speaker 1: lapel mic.
- 16:12Speaker 3: That's the stupidest thing in the history of the world.
- 16:14Speaker 3: It's just lazy journalism. It's not even journalism, it's just
- 16:17Speaker 3: lazy production. It's that and not taking the time to
- 16:21Speaker 3: hide a wired lob mic.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Yeah, hold on, hold on, okay, Look, I don't want
- 16:27Speaker 2: to get too deep into this. But journalism's changed, bro.
- 16:31Speaker 2: It's not like you can just it's not like you
- 16:34Speaker 2: just go up to somebody and say, hey, I want
- 16:35Speaker 2: to put this microphone on you and ask you some questions.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You just got to walk up to them and to
- 16:39Speaker 2: put the microphone in their face and be like, hey,
- 16:42Speaker 2: what do you think about this? So journalism's changed a
- 16:46Speaker 2: little bit a lot in that. But I get what
- 16:48Speaker 2: you're saying, don't get me wrong. But it doesn't bother
- 16:51Speaker 2: me as much as I think it bothers you.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it seriously bothers me because the number of so
- 16:58Speaker 3: because I got in trouble for doing stuff like that.
- 17:01Speaker 3: If I didn't like somebody yelled at me.
- 17:05Speaker 1: And now it's bad.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Because of the level of productions that we did at Fox, Fox,
- 17:10Speaker 3: earun Rabbits, Fox, and San Diego, there was a level
- 17:12Speaker 3: standard level that we had to meet, right and in
- 17:15Speaker 3: our productions for ESPN and NBC, we have to continue
- 17:18Speaker 3: to meet that level of standard because of how visible
- 17:21Speaker 3: it is now. Every local news market is different. If
- 17:24Speaker 3: you go to all the smallest news stations, nobody's gonna care, right,
- 17:28Speaker 3: They're they're all just mmj's. They're all doing it by themselves.
- 17:31Speaker 3: They don't have time, they don't care, and it.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Shows, Yeah, I'm not getting paid enough to care.
- 17:36Speaker 3: So the production quality has gone down because the expectation
- 17:42Speaker 3: of the viewer has also gone down.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I think you're right.
- 17:45Speaker 3: A lot of that, A lot of it was stemmed
- 17:47Speaker 3: pre COVID. COVID changed everything. People just wanted to watch content,
- 17:51Speaker 3: they didn't care what it looked like. And we've never
- 17:54Speaker 3: recovered from that mantra.
- 17:58Speaker 2: I don't think we're going to recover changed.
- 18:00Speaker 1: It's changed, and.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Because right the way content is ingested now, you don't
- 18:06Speaker 3: watch local news anymore. I can't tell you the last
- 18:09Speaker 3: time I turned out a local news channel here locally.
- 18:12Speaker 3: And if I do, it's because I'm at a bar
- 18:14Speaker 3: or a restaurant and I'm just making fun of it
- 18:15Speaker 3: because of how bad it is. But every YouTuber does
- 18:21Speaker 3: jump cuts, every YouTuber does a lave mic that's not dressed.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Every YouTuber just does man on the street with a
- 18:30Speaker 3: sticklike or a love mic and holds it up with
- 18:32Speaker 3: the wired dangling. It looks terrible. It really, it literally
- 18:36Speaker 3: looks terrible from a production standpoint, but people just don't care.
- 18:40Speaker 1: This is new this is the way journalism is now.
- 18:43Speaker 3: I also think too, people don't care well, just if
- 18:46Speaker 3: they can see it and hear it, that's all they
- 18:47Speaker 3: care about.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I also think too a lot of the journalism for
- 18:50Speaker 1: today it's not not necessarily what we're going to get
- 18:55Speaker 1: on our television screens. It's what we're gonna get on
- 18:57Speaker 1: the website. It's what extra content? What? How are we
- 19:01Speaker 1: going to drive people to our website to watch content
- 19:03Speaker 1: there and get an ad, you know, which is revenue generating.
- 19:08Speaker 1: So in that thirty minute block of a newscast, let's
- 19:11Speaker 1: have them watch what's going going on on our website.
- 19:15Speaker 2: See this is this is this is the problem. And
- 19:17Speaker 2: I'm not I want to preface this with saying that
- 19:21Speaker 2: I'm not going to get political with this, but however,
- 19:26Speaker 2: this is the problem that happens what you said, Andy,
- 19:29Speaker 2: is it absolutely true you want to drive content to
- 19:33Speaker 2: your website. The problem is when people go to the website,
- 19:35Speaker 2: people do not have the attention span to sit there
- 19:39Speaker 2: and watch through thirty to sixty second ads before they
- 19:42Speaker 2: get to the content. Nor do they want to see
- 19:45Speaker 2: half of the content interrupted by an ad and then
- 19:48Speaker 2: the rest of the content.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Have you ever done that You're watching a story and
- 19:51Speaker 1: all of a sudden boom, there's an ad. Yeah, and
- 19:53Speaker 1: this is why people don't. They don't.
- 19:55Speaker 2: They don't go to local news anymore. They don't even
- 19:58Speaker 2: go to CNN or MSNBC or Fox or whoever they
- 20:01Speaker 2: go to. They go to platforms like TikTok.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Or even x.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and this is where people are getting
- 20:08Speaker 2: their news from, right, And this is the way journalism
- 20:12Speaker 2: is being reshaped. It's it's no longer the mainstream media anymore.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And I don't care what side of the political platform
- 20:20Speaker 2: you're on, you hear the same rhetoric that nobody trusts
- 20:24Speaker 2: the mainstream media anymore because it's all about clicks, it's
- 20:28Speaker 2: all about engagement, it's all about ads. Well, it's about
- 20:32Speaker 2: how can we get people to click on this link. Well,
- 20:35Speaker 2: let's let's talk about the most crazy thing ever just
- 20:39Speaker 2: to get them to click on this link.
- 20:40Speaker 1: One of the things I've seen a lot, and I
- 20:42Speaker 1: work in media, television media as well, and I understand,
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's got a generate revenue, right,
- 20:51Speaker 1: But one of the things that I just gets me angry,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and I think it gets a lot of our locals angry.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I don't know if your stations do that. We're in
- 20:58Speaker 1: Denver or in South Bend. But you'll have a just
- 21:03Speaker 1: a graphic just what happened here blah blah blah, But
- 21:08Speaker 1: they would say anything or what television star just died
- 21:12Speaker 1: blah blah. They don't give you that info. Click in
- 21:15Speaker 1: the comments. Now, I don't know why does that generate something,
- 21:19Speaker 1: because then you have to click, generate clicks, go to
- 21:21Speaker 1: the so just just.
- 21:22Speaker 3: It generates time on the website, right right, Because my
- 21:27Speaker 3: understanding is that you go to a website, attracks how
- 21:30Speaker 3: long you've been there, that information gets aggregated. Okay, oh
- 21:34Speaker 3: I clicked twice. Now an ad servers, Oh they were
- 21:38Speaker 3: here for forty five seconds instead of thirty seconds. It's
- 21:41Speaker 3: how we can serve them two more ads on top,
- 21:44Speaker 3: and then we can charge more.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It's even more than that, all right.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I work very closely with our marketing director at my company. Now,
- 21:53Speaker 2: my company doesn't do as much as like an ad
- 21:56Speaker 2: like a.
- 21:58Speaker 1: TV station would. Okay, right, she tells me.
- 22:01Speaker 2: She tells, He's like, look, not only do we track
- 22:04Speaker 2: when you go to the website, Not only do we
- 22:06Speaker 2: track how long you spend on the website, we can
- 22:09Speaker 2: track what section of the website you're on. So if
- 22:12Speaker 2: you scroll down and you want to read a certain
- 22:16Speaker 2: content piece that's a little bit might like let's say
- 22:18Speaker 2: three quarters down, the page will track that you've been there.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Then what they do is then they turn that into
- 22:27Speaker 2: what ads can we place in these sections of the
- 22:30Speaker 2: website because this section, section two, out of three whatever
- 22:36Speaker 2: is the most visited, So now we can charge more
- 22:39Speaker 2: money for advertising on that section versus the top section,
- 22:44Speaker 2: which just says welcome to the website or whatever.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So like, if you're scrolling, all of a sudden, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: little Johnny is hung gray, so you gotta go give
- 22:52Speaker 1: little Johnny lunch and usually leave it there, that's gonna
- 22:56Speaker 1: screw up the algorithm.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Yes, everything you do every website, every second you spend
- 23:03Speaker 2: on a website, every position of that website you're on,
- 23:07Speaker 2: is being tracked.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And where you came from and where you.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Went, Oh, where you came from too, it's gonna geographical.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Let's sEH, where you came from unless you're like if
- 23:16Speaker 2: you go to let's say best Buy and you're searching
- 23:20Speaker 2: Laveler microphones and then you go to target The first
- 23:24Speaker 2: ad you're going to see is for Laveler microphones.
- 23:27Speaker 1: That is why when you look for a product, you
- 23:30Speaker 1: may notice when you're on the web, like just Google Baby,
- 23:34Speaker 1: you might suddenly start seeing all those ads or if
- 23:37Speaker 1: you click on something that is interesting, you're gonna be
- 23:40Speaker 1: fed that info.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Right, even if you're on a website, and let's say
- 23:44Speaker 2: you have YouTube TV as your TV provider, what's gonna
- 23:49Speaker 2: happen in the middle of the NFL game. You're going
- 23:52Speaker 2: to get an ad for what you were searching for
- 23:54Speaker 2: on the internet.
- 23:55Speaker 1: We think you'd feed direct ads to your customers, Sean
- 24:01Speaker 1: shaking his head. Yes they can, Yes.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Of course, so anytime they go to it.
- 24:04Speaker 1: So it's it's it's just like think about it, like.
- 24:06Speaker 3: From a broadcast perspective, Right, you used to have natural breaks, right,
- 24:10Speaker 3: you used to have local breaks. So when you did
- 24:12Speaker 3: a local break, you gotta served local content. So instead
- 24:14Speaker 3: of getting served national content or local content during those breaks,
- 24:18Speaker 3: you're not gonna use getting served targeted content during those breaks.
- 24:21Speaker 1: All right, let's speak in the breaks. We got we
- 24:23Speaker 1: gotta take hold on, we got to take a break,
- 24:25Speaker 1: we come back, We'll get your we'll get your thought
- 24:28Speaker 1: with more of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 24:31Speaker 1: Sean come your ad for lovel microphone? Yes, and I'm
- 24:34Speaker 1: justin let me.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Alb now back to tech talk Radio.
- 24:40Speaker 3: I really enjoy listening to your show. It's really cool. Well, thanks,
- 24:43Speaker 3: very informative.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Rookie. Are you a rookie? I'm very much a rookie.
- 24:52Speaker 2: So before the break, we were talking about how advertising
- 24:55Speaker 2: and like local TV and national TV.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So let me let me ask you a question.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Why is it that when you turn on your local
- 25:04Speaker 2: TV channels, whether it be in Tucson, Arizona there or
- 25:07Speaker 2: myself here in Denver or in South Bend, Indiana, why
- 25:10Speaker 2: do you see so much more local news then you
- 25:15Speaker 2: would see syndicated programming?
- 25:17Speaker 1: Why do you think that.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Is syndicated program It costs money.
- 25:22Speaker 2: And when you're in local programming, you can sell your
- 25:26Speaker 2: own ads.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Correct.
- 25:29Speaker 2: When it comes to syndicated or what Sean was mentioning earlier,
- 25:32Speaker 2: national national.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Has to sell the like.
- 25:35Speaker 2: So like Fox Fox Primetime you're talking about like Mass Singer,
- 25:40Speaker 2: or CBS with Survivor or NBC with whatever the hell
- 25:43Speaker 2: they got, they're having to sell national ads.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So they don't get paid for that, got it?
- 25:50Speaker 2: But then they might, they might get thirty seconds on
- 25:53Speaker 2: the back end. That's why you'll see all these sky
- 25:56Speaker 2: Rizzy and all these other.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Like no Razzy, not sky Rizzy, ski Rizzy, sky Rizzy,
- 26:04Speaker 1: sky Rizzy, I don't care. So it's like a guy
- 26:06Speaker 1: I used to hang out with Las Vegas. Yeah, yeah, all.
- 26:09Speaker 2: These medical ads to make you think you have a
- 26:12Speaker 2: disease you probably don't. And then at the very end
- 26:14Speaker 2: they'll be like, Hi, I'm ed from Ed's TVs down
- 26:18Speaker 2: the street, and then they go back to the corner,
- 26:20Speaker 2: they go back to the show.
- 26:21Speaker 1: So that's where they've made their money, or that's where
- 26:23Speaker 1: they made their money. So why do you think now?
- 26:25Speaker 2: So like, for instance, my my station I used to
- 26:28Speaker 2: work for here in Denver, Fox thirty one. They used
- 26:32Speaker 2: to have morning news from four thirty until ten.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Now now, even then, even then.
- 26:39Speaker 2: They were still local because if you look at CBS
- 26:42Speaker 2: or NBC, they cut to CBS Morning, or they cut
- 26:46Speaker 2: to the NBC Today show, Good Morning America or Good
- 26:50Speaker 2: Morning America on ABC.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Yep.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Sure on at like eight am they cut to the
- 26:54Speaker 2: national So now they lose all this profit. Fox thirty one,
- 26:58Speaker 2: they stayed in local from four thirty until ten. Now
- 27:03Speaker 2: they're staying local from four thirty till twelve.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Wow. Wow.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And because because this is how they can earn money,
- 27:12Speaker 2: they cut out shows like Judge Judy and I think
- 27:15Speaker 2: they were showing Jerry Springer at one point, I don't know,
- 27:18Speaker 2: at whatever, Yeah, but they were showing these syndicated shows
- 27:21Speaker 2: because they didn't have talent to be on the air
- 27:26Speaker 2: all that time. The longer you can be on air local,
- 27:30Speaker 2: the more money you can make locally.
- 27:32Speaker 1: A lot of the stations I've noticed, and I was
- 27:34Speaker 1: talking with guy actually who you know I work with
- 27:37Speaker 1: here the same thing. We've noticed a lot of young talent.
- 27:41Speaker 1: There's a lot of young reporters and it and they're
- 27:43Speaker 1: they're learning, you know, they're they're good. But we're seeing
- 27:47Speaker 1: a lot more younger talent that is being featured through
- 27:49Speaker 1: those time slots and they're getting invaluable experience and it
- 27:53Speaker 1: really they truly are. Yeah, And so I mean that's
- 27:56Speaker 1: pretty good. We've had a few from Tucson that have
- 28:00Speaker 1: gone off to the bigger markets, you know, and and
- 28:02Speaker 1: working in New York, LA and other towns.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I've got to say, I got two quick little things
- 28:09Speaker 2: to say about this. I love being that I've worked
- 28:12Speaker 2: in big markets. I've I've worked in television in San.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Diego with Ron Burgundy, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Rob
- 28:20Speaker 1: Burgundy station.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I've also worked in television in Denver. Sean, you've
- 28:24Speaker 2: worked in television and Grand Rapids, which is a smaller market,
- 28:28Speaker 2: but you also worked in San Diego with me. Now,
- 28:31Speaker 2: let me ask you this, Sean, simple yes or no?
- 28:35Speaker 2: Can you tell the difference between a large market talent
- 28:40Speaker 2: and a small market talent?
- 28:41Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 28:43Speaker 2: Really, I I absolutely can too, because when I go
- 28:47Speaker 2: back to visit my mom or something, and I see
- 28:49Speaker 2: the local news there and I see these.
- 28:51Speaker 1: People, they look like they literally just got to a
- 28:54Speaker 1: high school.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and they can barely speak on air, like I mean,
- 28:58Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, They're doing their best, but they're
- 29:00Speaker 2: they're young, they're green, right, Yeah. You go to places
- 29:03Speaker 2: like Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Chicago. These people are experienced.
- 29:09Speaker 2: They know exactly like me, me doing this show, Sean
- 29:13Speaker 2: doing the show. Andy, You've been a radio DJ so
- 29:15Speaker 2: many years. We know how to present ourselves in our
- 29:19Speaker 2: particular format, right right. It takes time to learn that.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But yes, when you go to a small market and
- 29:26Speaker 2: you watch the local news, these people who are just like, so, yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 2: today it's gonna be like forty degrees and we might
- 29:37Speaker 2: get a little bit of snow.
- 29:39Speaker 1: That's a great, great weather forecast. I think we need
- 29:42Speaker 1: to inject more humanity and more humor. But then again,
- 29:46Speaker 1: we're talking news. Sometimes you can't be humorous. But I
- 29:49Speaker 1: mean maybe maybe I don't know if that because that's
- 29:52Speaker 1: what people are getting online. You know, they watch somebody well,
- 29:56Speaker 1: they want they want quality content, yeah, yeah.
- 30:00Speaker 3: And they want familiar and likable.
- 30:02Speaker 1: People, right exactly. I'm sorry.
- 30:05Speaker 2: It's hard to like somebody who's just like literally out
- 30:07Speaker 2: of college who was doing weather, and I'm like, why
- 30:10Speaker 2: am I listening to you?
- 30:11Speaker 1: We got him listening. We got a guy out here
- 30:13Speaker 1: that does weather. And I remember the first time I
- 30:16Speaker 1: saw him on a later cast, I had not met
- 30:18Speaker 1: him in person. I thought, oh, my gosh, he looks
- 30:20Speaker 1: like a kid. I mean he really looked like a
- 30:23Speaker 1: fifteen year old kid. And then I met him, the
- 30:26Speaker 1: most eloquent, smart, savvy, hardworking kid I'd ever met. And
- 30:34Speaker 1: he you know what, Once I got past that.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And got to know him a little more, I thought
- 30:38Speaker 2: this guy's really good. So again, I'm not trying to
- 30:40Speaker 2: I'm not trying to discount these people. I'm not trying
- 30:42Speaker 2: to say they suck. It's just they're they're they're new,
- 30:45Speaker 2: they're green. They don't It's like when I first started radio.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Like, oh I remember, so I was there and burying
- 30:56Speaker 1: Andy or coming on a little bit late, driving in
- 31:00Speaker 1: and listening and going oh boy, yeah no, I mean, yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 1: that's the way I was when I was a kid.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Right, I mean I get it, I get it. But
- 31:07Speaker 2: with life comms experience. But exactly, you can definitely tell
- 31:11Speaker 2: small market talent from big market talent.
- 31:14Speaker 1: All Right. We wanted to get some listener questions in
- 31:18Speaker 1: because we've had some good ones that have come in.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Linda is so yeah, we've really had some good questions,
- 31:23Speaker 3: I'm telling you, yeah, and I want to thank you.
- 31:26Speaker 3: We've gotten feedback, We've had people respond to the answer
- 31:29Speaker 3: to our questions. We've gotten likes on our videos that
- 31:32Speaker 3: we've posted about those questions. So they keep sending the
- 31:35Speaker 3: questions because they've been awesome.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Exactly, and this one from Linda here and Salwadita said
- 31:39Speaker 1: last month, I listened and heard Sean, there you go.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Sean mentioned he wanted a Flipper zero. I looked it
- 31:46Speaker 1: up and now my feet is full of flippers zeros.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Thanks Sean. See, we were just talking about this, she said,
- 31:54Speaker 1: just kidding, but I want to know are they illegal?
- 31:57Speaker 1: And what is really so good about them? My son
- 31:59Speaker 1: has asked for one, but really wasn't sure about this
- 32:02Speaker 1: technology and do I need to be a genius to
- 32:05Speaker 1: set it up? Linda? First of how old is your son? Yeah?
- 32:10Speaker 2: She didn't say, yeah, your son is Linna didn't say
- 32:13Speaker 2: how old are Yeah, Linda. If your son is young,
- 32:17Speaker 2: and let's say I don't know, ten to sixteen years
- 32:21Speaker 2: old and wants a Flipper zero, they're probably going to
- 32:24Speaker 2: be doing some illegal stuff.
- 32:25Speaker 1: With really okay?
- 32:27Speaker 3: Oh right, So the flipper zero is basically a hardware
- 32:31Speaker 3: hacking tool. Right. It will replicate Wi Fi signals, It'll
- 32:35Speaker 3: capture RFID tags, NFC like all this.
- 32:37Speaker 1: It can control bar TVs with like r no with
- 32:41Speaker 1: oh god, got it.
- 32:42Speaker 3: It's got an IRD transmitter in it. It can be
- 32:44Speaker 3: programmed for all sorts of stuff you can get. You
- 32:48Speaker 3: can get add ons for it. It's not something you
- 32:51Speaker 3: want to give children.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Okay, let me put it this way.
- 32:55Speaker 2: The Flipper zero is an amazing device period. Yeah, Okay,
- 33:00Speaker 2: it's a great learning tool for cybersecurity. It's a great
- 33:05Speaker 2: tool to learn just technology in general. However, with that
- 33:10Speaker 2: being said, with great power comes great responsibility.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Oh boy, and you want to know the one thing
- 33:17Speaker 1: I was going to do with it?
- 33:19Speaker 3: What if I got it? But is replicate all of
- 33:22Speaker 3: the ambos for the Nintendo Yep, Oh, you could do that.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Then you can just call them up and set it
- 33:27Speaker 2: out on thousands of dollars of ambos, right, so you
- 33:30Speaker 2: can just scan the ambos.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Okay, stores it and then you can put it on
- 33:34Speaker 3: your switch and it'll recall the AMBO like you can
- 33:36Speaker 3: store RFID.
- 33:38Speaker 1: People.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Okay, first off, people don't understand what the heck you're
- 33:40Speaker 2: talking about.
- 33:40Speaker 1: I have no idea what it is. These are little RFID.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Figurines that you can buy that will if you play
- 33:49Speaker 2: the game that the character is represented inside of the game,
- 33:52Speaker 2: it'll give you an extra feature or a new clothing said,
- 33:57Speaker 2: or just a new power or whatever you want in
- 33:59Speaker 2: the game. What Sean's talking about is basically taking thousands
- 34:04Speaker 2: of dollars worth of amebos, which you can buy a
- 34:08Speaker 2: game stop and other in Amazon and things and just
- 34:11Speaker 2: replicating them on a single device, so whenever he wants
- 34:15Speaker 2: to use them, he can just whip out the flipper
- 34:18Speaker 2: and scan the you know, quote unquote a meebo and
- 34:23Speaker 2: get the benefits of that amoebo without actually having to
- 34:26Speaker 2: pay for it. Right, So again, illegal content?
- 34:30Speaker 1: Okay, Now, I know I've seen people say you could
- 34:33Speaker 1: control like gate arms, but does it mean you can
- 34:36Speaker 1: you can get out without paying attention? Is that what
- 34:39Speaker 1: they're talking about? Okay, okay, okay, Yeah.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Yes, there are just Spencer ton on the internet. You
- 34:47Speaker 3: can look it up yourselves. But there are plenty of
- 34:50Speaker 3: legal things you can do with them. There are plenty
- 34:53Speaker 3: of gray area things you can do with them, and
- 34:55Speaker 3: there are plenty of illegal things.
- 34:57Speaker 1: You can do. So basically a computer, yeah, but it's
- 35:02Speaker 1: it's more for r F r F I D.
- 35:04Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 35:05Speaker 2: There's there's plenty of legal things you can do with
- 35:07Speaker 2: the computer. There's plenty of great things you can do
- 35:09Speaker 2: with computer. Okay, plenty of illegal things you can do with.
- 35:12Speaker 1: All right, if somebody like if so. Last night, as
- 35:15Speaker 1: a matter of fact, I was checking my camera before
- 35:18Speaker 1: I went to bed over the driveway and I saw
- 35:20Speaker 1: I thought, is that the cat again? A black cat
- 35:23Speaker 1: comes by? Right? And I saw it look walking instead
- 35:26Speaker 1: of heading into our pushes with a flipper zero. No,
- 35:29Speaker 1: what a zapp cat. But it walked. It walked to
- 35:33Speaker 1: the end of the sidewalk, and I thought, let me
- 35:34Speaker 1: see on the doorbell camera. And I looked and it
- 35:37Speaker 1: was a poor little mangy dog like I thought it
- 35:41Speaker 1: was a cat. It was so skinny and it was
- 35:43Speaker 1: a dog. If this dog would have had an a microchip,
- 35:47Speaker 1: I could use the the flipper zero to read it
- 35:50Speaker 1: and figure out who it belonged to.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Right, Well, no, it would just give you the microchip data.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Oh okay, we'll tell you it belongs to John. You
- 35:59Speaker 1: would read it.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you would give you a readout of here's the
- 36:01Speaker 3: information on the RFID and then you can use that.
- 36:04Speaker 1: It depends on what type of tag.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Because my cats had tags that literally just read out
- 36:10Speaker 2: an RFID chip number. That number meant nothing to anybody unless.
- 36:15Speaker 1: You took it to a vet. The vet could access
- 36:18Speaker 1: a database.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Now there are other chips out there that would act
- 36:22Speaker 2: as like an actual name tag. So if you scan
- 36:24Speaker 2: the chip it'll say it belongs to Andy Taylor at
- 36:28Speaker 2: such and such address, But normally the chips just read
- 36:32Speaker 2: out a number.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Is it worth it? So obviously for Linda it sounds
- 36:36Speaker 1: like if her son is wonning it, we don't know
- 36:38Speaker 1: how older son is.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I mean maybe I would say not no, all right, no,
- 36:44Speaker 2: let let them let them become an adult and let
- 36:47Speaker 2: them do that yourself, because I'm sorry, Linda.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Liability, Yeah, exactly, Let.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Them become an adult. Be be careful of what you
- 36:56Speaker 2: do with the flipper zero. Let them know the dangers
- 36:59Speaker 2: of it. Let them know that this thing is a
- 37:02Speaker 2: very dangerous tool if used in the improper ways, and
- 37:07Speaker 2: then absolve yourself of that liability by letting them become
- 37:11Speaker 2: an adult and doing what they.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Want, which is your child. If you think about flipper zero,
- 37:15Speaker 1: it's the same thing we do with our kids on
- 37:17Speaker 1: the internet, right. I mean, you don't just put a
- 37:20Speaker 1: seven year old or eight year old in front of
- 37:21Speaker 1: a computer and say, here, go ahead, go online, have fun. Wait,
- 37:25Speaker 1: I mean you're not sposed to do for me. I
- 37:29Speaker 1: I did that. The internet was a little different back then, Sean, Yeah,
- 37:33Speaker 1: and it took you an hour to load up a website.
- 37:36Speaker 2: I let my son on the internet, but at least
- 37:38Speaker 2: I watch him. I watch everything that he does on
- 37:40Speaker 2: the internet. Yeah, so with a flipper zero, you can't
- 37:43Speaker 2: do that.
- 37:44Speaker 1: All right, I got a joke before you for you guys,
- 37:46Speaker 1: before we go to break, I wanted to share with you.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I was so confused last night as my printer started
- 37:51Speaker 1: playing music, the paper was jamming. No, I got a
- 37:59Speaker 1: better one.
- 38:00Speaker 2: What I call a rooster staring at a piece of lettuce?
- 38:03Speaker 1: What do you call a rooster staring at a piece
- 38:06Speaker 1: of lettus?
- 38:07Speaker 2: What is it a chicken sees a salad. We'll be
- 38:13Speaker 2: right back.
- 38:15Speaker 1: And now back to tech talk radio.
- 38:18Speaker 3: So I didn't get to sell a joke because Joe
- 38:20Speaker 3: Yes entered it on a mic drop.
- 38:24Speaker 1: That was a good joke.
- 38:25Speaker 3: So did you know that dogs can't do MRIs but
- 38:29Speaker 3: cat scan?
- 38:31Speaker 1: My god? Okay, d that was actually pretty good.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Here here's here's my all time favorite joke that he
- 38:41Speaker 3: told me.
- 38:41Speaker 1: All right, why are.
- 38:43Speaker 3: There pop tarts but no mom tarts?
- 38:46Speaker 1: Why are there pop tarts but no mom like? You know?
- 38:50Speaker 2: Actually, I went on on a walk yesterday and my
- 38:53Speaker 2: wife asked me how long a you be gone? I said,
- 38:56Speaker 2: the whole time.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Wait, I wonder know.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Why they're no mom tarts.
- 39:02Speaker 3: So the joke is, why are there pop tarts but
- 39:05Speaker 3: no mom tarts? Right, the answer is because of the patriarchy.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Oh go lord, Oh oh okay, that's hard, all right.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Some of the funniest things I didn't let that one land, Shawn, Yeah, sorry, Yeah.
- 39:19Speaker 1: That's all right. Some of the funniest things about cs
- 39:22Speaker 1: were the the ideas that that happened, and they put
- 39:26Speaker 1: stuff out and they say people are gonna love this,
- 39:29Speaker 1: and then people just go, are you kidding me? One
- 39:33Speaker 1: of those that I wanted to mention, and you can
- 39:35Speaker 1: find it now. It's a non reusable lollipop that plays
- 39:39Speaker 1: music through vibrations in your jaw. It's called the Lollipops
- 39:44Speaker 1: Star from Lava Tech and the amous Tasty Sounds Audio lollipops.
- 39:49Speaker 1: They use bone conduction. I had to send music vibrations
- 39:52Speaker 1: through your teeth. Oh that's just great. All my crowns
- 39:55Speaker 1: are gonna break and jaw directly to your inner ear.
- 39:59Speaker 1: I've used the bone conduction headphones from Mojaba, which are great.
- 40:04Speaker 1: They're nine bucks for a lollipop. But if you want
- 40:09Speaker 1: to have a song play while you're having your lollipop.
- 40:13Speaker 2: There you go, Yeah, I don't want to spend nine
- 40:15Speaker 2: bucks to have that and have to spend one hundred
- 40:17Speaker 2: and fifty bucks to get my crown replaced.
- 40:20Speaker 1: And you you get a dumb dumb for what twenty
- 40:22Speaker 1: five cents? Yeah, or by no tuting in to me?
- 40:25Speaker 2: I know we're talking about cees, but I want to
- 40:27Speaker 2: mention last week we took my son to a Great
- 40:30Speaker 2: Wolf Lodge.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Okay, oh, I want to check that place out that
- 40:34Speaker 1: looks in Phoenix.
- 40:35Speaker 2: It's a good place. It definitely is more like family friendly.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I would highly recommend you take your grandchildren over there.
- 40:42Speaker 2: But it's definitely family friendly. But we went to the
- 40:45Speaker 2: bar area and I was sitting down and I was
- 40:48Speaker 2: looking at the bartender and he was wearing these pair
- 40:51Speaker 2: of glasses that just looked a little bit different. And
- 40:55Speaker 2: I asked him, I said, are you are you wearing
- 40:58Speaker 2: the Meta Yeah, I had a glass of the Meta
- 41:00Speaker 2: ray bands and he's like, yeah, actually I am, And
- 41:03Speaker 2: so I asked him about that. He goes, well, these
- 41:06Speaker 2: are the first edition, so they don't do like the
- 41:11Speaker 2: what do you call? Yeah, there's the onscreen display like
- 41:13Speaker 2: in your lens, the hud. Yeah, they don't do the hud. Yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 2: they don't do the hud. But he's like, they do
- 41:19Speaker 2: offer obviously recording. If I press the button, it'll start recording.
- 41:23Speaker 2: And then he did that, and all of a sudden,
- 41:24Speaker 2: the light turned on and I'm like, oh, you're recording me.
- 41:26Speaker 2: And then he's like, also, the best part about it
- 41:29Speaker 2: is listening to music. He goes one of the company
- 41:32Speaker 2: policies here was that we're not allowed to wear earbuds.
- 41:35Speaker 2: So he's like, I just bought the Meta ray bands
- 41:38Speaker 2: and I can. I can listen to music and they
- 41:40Speaker 2: don't even know because they think I'm just wearing glasses.
- 41:42Speaker 2: And I'm like, no way, let me see that. And
- 41:45Speaker 2: he's like, I'll let you wear them. So he wiped
- 41:48Speaker 2: him off for me, gave him to me, and I
- 41:50Speaker 2: put him on, and I swear to god, it sounded
- 41:53Speaker 2: like I had earbuds in in the crazy, even though
- 41:56Speaker 2: it was just simply bone conduction from the the ear arm.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I guess you could say of the of the glasses
- 42:04Speaker 2: going behind my ear bone.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm not a doctor. I don't know.
- 42:08Speaker 1: The Majawas were like that, but they were a little
- 42:10Speaker 1: tinmy I thought.
- 42:12Speaker 2: This sounded great, This sounded great, and he said these
- 42:15Speaker 2: were only like three ninety nine. The new the new
- 42:18Speaker 2: Meta ray bands, the ones that with the hud Sean mentioned,
- 42:21Speaker 2: those are like eight ninety nine and they come with
- 42:24Speaker 2: a little wrist thing where you can do like wrist
- 42:26Speaker 2: movements and then it will like make the screen change
- 42:30Speaker 2: or whatever. I don't know, but I gotta say, just
- 42:33Speaker 2: listening for a couple of minutes with the original rate
- 42:36Speaker 2: of Meta ray bands, the sound quality was actually really good.
- 42:41Speaker 1: To make you want to get one. No, no, no,
- 42:45Speaker 1: not quite. There's so many privacy things with those though,
- 42:48Speaker 1: I mean is Iniry.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Though, well yeah, because he's like, well, the whole recording thing.
- 42:54Speaker 2: He's like, uh, you know, people sell these stickers that
- 42:57Speaker 2: you can put over the lens or not the lens,
- 43:00Speaker 2: but the.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Light that shines up.
- 43:02Speaker 2: But the thing is is Meta has actually a they
- 43:05Speaker 2: have an IR sensor inside of the light itself or
- 43:09Speaker 2: some sort of a sensor that determines if you're blocking
- 43:13Speaker 2: the light, it won't allow you to record.
- 43:16Speaker 1: H Okay.
- 43:16Speaker 2: So all these people that are selling these things like, hey,
- 43:19Speaker 2: buy these stickers to block the lights, and people don't
- 43:21Speaker 2: know you're recording. It doesn't work because Meta blocks you
- 43:26Speaker 2: from doing that.
- 43:27Speaker 1: So but I do like that.
- 43:28Speaker 2: I do like the ability, Like if I'm out on
- 43:31Speaker 2: the street or whatever and I need to record something quickly,
- 43:35Speaker 2: I don't necessarily have the time to grab my phone,
- 43:38Speaker 2: you know. And yes, I get it, okay, Oh, doubletop
- 43:40Speaker 2: the power button to bring up the camera.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I get it. Okay.
- 43:44Speaker 2: But field is tap your glasses once and then being
- 43:47Speaker 2: able to look at whatever you're looking at is being recorded.
- 43:51Speaker 1: That's kind of cool. I know somebody that is using
- 43:55Speaker 1: it as a replacement for a dash cam, which you know,
- 43:59Speaker 1: reallys are great. But when he goes for a drive,
- 44:02Speaker 1: if it's during the day, it'll just pop pop the uh,
- 44:05Speaker 1: the Meta's in and that becomes his dashcam. And I guess,
- 44:10Speaker 1: you know, I guess that works pretty good. I don't know.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I would anticipate that we're going to see more of
- 44:16Speaker 1: that technology and they're going to make a better, better
- 44:18Speaker 1: batteryly life. I know that the newest metas you get
- 44:21Speaker 1: a longer battery life with them, so and that works
- 44:24Speaker 1: out pretty good. Here's a couple of silly ideas though.
- 44:27Speaker 1: At ces Samsung as part of its update to the
- 44:31Speaker 1: Family Hub where there's no there's no handles on this refrigerator.
- 44:38Speaker 1: So now using oh boy, big spe remember big sb Uh.
- 44:43Speaker 2: You know I don't remember big spe because busy sucks.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Bigsby was just you could tell it open the door
- 44:50Speaker 1: or shut the fridge door. You know, I could see
- 44:54Speaker 1: it telling me that I shouldn't be eating anymore and
- 44:57Speaker 1: not opening it for me anymore. I want the left
- 45:06Speaker 1: umber pizza though, please, Big sb No.
- 45:10Speaker 2: No.
- 45:12Speaker 1: The other one is coffee makers that are now voice enabled.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I see a benefit in this one. When you don't
- 45:20Speaker 1: want to get up, walk to the fridge, push the
- 45:22Speaker 1: brew button. Now you could just be laying in bed saying,
- 45:25Speaker 1: you know, brew me a coffee. Okay, coffee on its leg.
- 45:31Speaker 1: If it sounds like that, I don't need the coffee.
- 45:35Speaker 1: And then this is the most ridiculous one. Apparently they're
- 45:39Speaker 1: working on it. Not available yet. The AI robotic barber Okay, no, no, nope, nope, nope.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I mean one could go wrong. You have a robot
- 45:52Speaker 1: cutting your hair.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Sweet imagine if the barber that the AI barber got
- 45:57Speaker 2: a got a razor shave license.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Oh boy, you're not getting.
- 46:03Speaker 3: We're just when I saw though, it's called a toilet
- 46:09Speaker 3: mounted computer that uses cameras and microphones.
- 46:13Speaker 1: No, are you kidding me? One more time? One more time?
- 46:19Speaker 1: Say that one more time, please.
- 46:20Speaker 3: A toilet mounted computer that uses cameras and microphones to
- 46:25Speaker 3: analyze your bowel movements. Designed to establish a personal baseline
- 46:31Speaker 3: for your bathroom habits.
- 46:32Speaker 1: You can't get more personal than that.
- 46:35Speaker 3: But you just talked about you know you're gonna see
- 46:37Speaker 3: more technology cameras everywhere.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Yeah, well there you go. Oh yes, you're having too
- 46:48Speaker 1: much fun with that, all right, I.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Mean outside outside of the weird stuff, right, It's just
- 46:52Speaker 3: there was AI in just about everything, yes, and well.
- 46:58Speaker 2: They were, they were having what was it the Jensen
- 47:01Speaker 2: Jensen Wang, the CEO of Nvidia, all right, went on
- 47:05Speaker 2: stage for like a keynote, and he said the word
- 47:09Speaker 2: AI like twenty five times in like five minutes.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Oh wow, it was. It was ridiculous. Yeah, like, enough
- 47:16Speaker 1: with the AI.
- 47:18Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, people don't realize this, but like when
- 47:20Speaker 2: you're talking about AI, you're thinking, oh cool, this is
- 47:22Speaker 2: this really cool assistant where I can just ask a
- 47:25Speaker 2: question and blah blah blah. You don't realize the footprint
- 47:29Speaker 2: of the data center that has to power this AI. Yeah, this,
- 47:34Speaker 2: I mean these things take up like hundreds of acres. Well,
- 47:38Speaker 2: obviously get smarter as humans going on that right now.
- 47:42Speaker 2: This is just it's not energy efficient. Like if you, okay,
- 47:45Speaker 2: h Alexa, give me a recipe for you know, chicken catchatory.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Well that's good it okay, fine, sure you got a
- 47:55Speaker 2: recipe for kitten chicken catchatory. But you realize that you've
- 47:59Speaker 2: just taken up about the amount of power it would
- 48:01Speaker 2: take to power a small African village for six weeks.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I still't know if it's that just for asking about catchatory.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't know.
- 48:11Speaker 3: I mean, regardless if you're using AI or not, the
- 48:14Speaker 3: data is getting like the powers on at those data centers,
- 48:18Speaker 3: and we have one that's potentially coming down the road
- 48:21Speaker 3: from us here in Indiana.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Right Well, the power is on, but it's not being pulled.
- 48:27Speaker 2: When these GPUs get used and they're being processing a
- 48:31Speaker 2: request from a user, they're going to be taking more power.
- 48:35Speaker 2: The more requests that come in, the more power has
- 48:38Speaker 2: to be drawn.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Got it all right? Here's one from Larry Listener, question
- 48:43Speaker 1: Larry and Tucson said, wondering if you guys is very
- 48:46Speaker 1: quick to the point, wondering if you guys had checked
- 48:48Speaker 1: out this game Stardu Valley. Oh, I'm I I know
- 48:53Speaker 1: nothing about it, I said, I will ask the guys
- 48:56Speaker 1: because I know nothing about it. Sean, you played that right.
- 48:59Speaker 3: This is one of those hold on, well, this is
- 49:01Speaker 3: one of those games that I have.
- 49:04Speaker 1: I've bought you bought it? Wow, I did, But I am.
- 49:09Speaker 3: No, I will. I refuse to play it because I
- 49:11Speaker 3: know I will get sucked in and it'll be everything
- 49:14Speaker 3: I want.
- 49:15Speaker 1: To do for the next thank you. Ah. So it's
- 49:18Speaker 1: an addictive fun is it fun game?
- 49:20Speaker 3: It's it's yeah, I've heard nothing but great things. It
- 49:25Speaker 3: falls in line with some games I love growing up
- 49:27Speaker 3: Harvest Moon sixty four for example, And I know just
- 49:31Speaker 3: the way I am. I would spend a ridiculous amount
- 49:37Speaker 3: of time that I don't have in playing this game.
- 49:40Speaker 1: So I own it.
- 49:42Speaker 3: I own it, and at some point I will play it,
- 49:45Speaker 3: but not right now because I don't have time.
- 49:47Speaker 2: I got Okay, Sean, do you understand that the basis
- 49:52Speaker 2: of Stardow Valley was okay? First off, the game was
- 49:55Speaker 2: made by one guy It was made by one person,
- 49:59Speaker 2: and it continues to this day to be made by
- 50:02Speaker 2: one person. This person created that game out of frustration
- 50:08Speaker 2: for Harvest Moon not coming out with a new game.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Correct.
- 50:13Speaker 2: He wanted the new Harvest Moon and they would not
- 50:16Speaker 2: release it, so he said, fine, I'm gonna make my
- 50:18Speaker 2: own game based on a Harvest Moon yep, but with
- 50:21Speaker 2: an extra story. So yes, this game was created by
- 50:24Speaker 2: one person. Sean is correct. This game is so addicting.
- 50:29Speaker 1: I've put.
- 50:32Speaker 2: About one hundred hours into the game.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Wow.
- 50:34Speaker 2: My mom, however, I introduced her to that game. She
- 50:38Speaker 2: this game was the reason why mom bought a Steam deck.
- 50:41Speaker 2: You have a PC or a console, she bought a Steam.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Deck for this game. My mom has put over seven
- 50:47Speaker 1: hundred hours into Stardow Valley. All right, Stardu Valley, Our
- 50:51Speaker 1: listeners can want to look it up. One joke before
- 50:54Speaker 1: we go to a break. Are you ready? Why did
- 50:56Speaker 1: the computer go to the dentist because it tooth hurt?
- 51:01Speaker 1: Which kind of tooth.
- 51:04Speaker 3: Because it took a micro bite no to.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Get his bluetooth checked. Oh, we'll be right back. I'm
- 51:11Speaker 1: Andy Taylor.
- 51:13Speaker 2: And I'm justin Let me have plenty more better jokes
- 51:15Speaker 2: than that.
- 51:16Speaker 1: But we'll be right back and now fact to tech
- 51:18Speaker 1: talk radio. Be sorry, really bad one.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Here's another one of my favorites. All right, out of
- 51:23Speaker 3: all the nights of the round Table, who is the
- 51:25Speaker 3: least recognized?
- 51:28Speaker 1: I don't know?
- 51:30Speaker 3: Sircumference?
- 51:34Speaker 1: Oh my god? Okay, you know what I'm done? Good night, guys.
- 51:39Speaker 1: All right? Wait, do you guys get ridiculous text messages? Yeah?
- 51:44Speaker 1: All right? And how do you handle it? All right? Well,
- 51:46Speaker 1: I got one today. It says hello Andy Taylor and
- 51:50Speaker 1: there was no space between hello, So obviously you know
- 51:53Speaker 1: that was just a notes. No, that was the way
- 51:55Speaker 1: why you're way you're looking at I put it in
- 51:57Speaker 1: the notes says happy New Year? Are she still at
- 52:00Speaker 1: Tucson of America?
- 52:04Speaker 2: What the heck is Tucson of America?
- 52:06Speaker 1: Exactly? Maybe we should get together sometimes. And the thing
- 52:10Speaker 1: is I have friends that are always so proud that
- 52:13Speaker 1: they were able to interact with these obviously spams, And
- 52:15Speaker 1: they say, how I treat you? Treating a skimp, scammer
- 52:19Speaker 1: and a spammer. However, this is not a good idea.
- 52:22Speaker 1: You get these texts, don't reply to it, even to
- 52:26Speaker 1: say stop refly replying means that that's a real number.
- 52:32Speaker 1: They don't know. It just goes goes out. Obviously they
- 52:35Speaker 1: have info they've bought, they've got on a database somewhere.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Do not click any links, definitely don't do that, and
- 52:41Speaker 1: do not provide any personal infos such as address financial details,
- 52:45Speaker 1: social media handles, and do block the senders number immediately.
- 52:50Speaker 1: You can call it spam, all right, Just yeah, totally
- 52:53Speaker 1: something to think about.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Obviously, my pixel phone handles most of my spam for me,
- 52:57Speaker 2: so I don't Pixel good. And that's what I love
- 52:59Speaker 2: about the phones. They're so good at screening calls. They're
- 53:03Speaker 2: so good at screening spam, right, I hardly.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Use Usually mine comes up that says possible spam.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Yeah, same here, possible spam when yeah, But mine, I've
- 53:11Speaker 2: got mindset a little bit higher where obviously if it
- 53:14Speaker 2: says possible spam, it just automatically denies it. Now I
- 53:17Speaker 2: have gotten legitimate phone calls that have gone straight to
- 53:22Speaker 2: spam from people at my office and they finally get
- 53:27Speaker 2: a hold of me some a different way and they're like,
- 53:30Speaker 2: every time I call you, it goes straight to voicemail.
- 53:32Speaker 2: And I'm like, yeah, well, because your number is coming
- 53:35Speaker 2: up as spam and he's like, yeah, I bought this
- 53:38Speaker 2: phone and it used to the number used to belong
- 53:40Speaker 2: to some Oh never thought of a flower company or
- 53:43Speaker 2: whatever that went out of business or you know, something
- 53:45Speaker 2: like that. And I'm like, well, like I can't help that,
- 53:50Speaker 2: all right.
- 53:51Speaker 1: I found a website, flash museum dot org. Be careful
- 53:54Speaker 1: of the website you visit when you see those videos
- 53:57Speaker 1: online on Facebook. Here's a website usually UTA know about,
- 54:00Speaker 1: but I did check this one out. Games you can
- 54:02Speaker 1: play online. One of the games I played was Tuper
- 54:05Speaker 1: Tario Tros. It's basically Super Mario Brothers. But again all
- 54:11Speaker 1: flash games. But again, careful of these websites. What was
- 54:15Speaker 1: it again, flash museum dot org. And is my childhood
- 54:21Speaker 1: right there? Right? All right? So many games on here,
- 54:24Speaker 1: and then they got Jack Smith.
- 54:27Speaker 3: There are so many games on here that I used
- 54:29Speaker 3: to play Flash Gas. Oh, I know what I'm doing
- 54:34Speaker 3: for the rest of the night.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Now, oh great, all right, that's it for this week's
