  wasn't just like will came here to be a part of something

  special and it wasn't just about, will he wanted to For the

  team, he was a leader. He stayed on everybody distance

  so he was a he was an incredible teammate like some of my best

  memories are watching will run around the infield.

  Those kind of things. What are you doing?

  Yeah, no, he was the consummate teammate and we really

  appreciate it that we do great leader grade.

  some of my best days just in life just being on that team and

  being in that atmosphere was it was like no other.

  I think it definitely was a integral part of just me being

  turning into a man. Honestly.

  I felt like I didn't feel like I got to college really until I

  got the games with you. I feel like that was when I

  really was like, oh dang, I got it.

  I got to man up. I'm around a whole bunch of

  athletes that are On the same type of time that I won't and

  they all want to be great and I'm coming in and and I want to

  be great. But hey everybody on the team is

  good everybody. Yeah, it definitely just gave me

  a different, a different focus. It was not just on myself.

  It was just you know, I want to you said, you want to be great

  as well. So that's let's push each other.

  Let's hold each other accountable and I think that

  Just helped me to grow as a man. So, so a man and we all know

  this, but we ain't we're not the audience, right?

  I feel like Wills age is in this sweet spot where it's like, his

  career is appreciated, by the people who choose to pay

  attention. And also a lot of it is

  Talent at One time. So I was on the team.

  Omar credit myself. We had Frankie Hammett who he

  went. He went to the NFL as well.

  The Sprint's we had Jeff damps, Chris Rainey to rail Wilkes.

  biggest leader on that group, you know, like Terrell was the

  voice of that team and it was a loud voice.

  If you I mean there was a guy named Blake he read on that team

  every Blake and and Trail got him a couple of times.

  You know, he's like hey, do you know this is not what we do

  here, so, Yeah. Super talented.

  Super talented is funny because I we used to talk about Omar a

  lot. Right?

  Like Omar's will Superstar. And Omar was without question.

  The third Beetle on that team. Right?

  Right. You couldn't convince Omar of

  it, which is, which is why he survived, because if you didn't

  have Omar's personality, there's no chance.

  You could be, you could survive being on that in that jumps

  group with those two other dudes.

  But because Omar is, who Omar is right, like, he was perfectly

  fine, but I used to always say like this, dude could jump 1750

  and still get third. The crazy thing about it is Omar

  used to destroy me at practice like when we would jump like,

  oh, because he was so strong and we will be doing sort of post
• 12:07
  jumps in like me. I need some speed.

  Oh my God, damn it. And I'm like and we had this
• 12:17
  thing called moved to shoot because booby like Moodle shoot.

  You got to show you guys so you got to shoot y'all go grab your

  shoe and put it beside the pit. So Christian go boom.

  He said as he said his shoe right there, I go.

  I move my shoe past everybody else's boom and it just kept

  going and then it's just, it's just like, oh, oh, oh my God.

  Put it out there like and and and I think that kept us honest.

  It kept us going like it wasn't no days where anybody can really

  like because we all were just, we know one to lose and we all

  were just like man, like if I'm not on it, he's gonna bust.

  He gonna bust me today, you know, and that was what

  everything whether we were doing, stadiums, kill, sand

  jumping, you know, running flying 100's it.

  It was with all that I was getting ready to say.

  It wasn't just in the jump it and for the rest of the squad,

  like no, that was when the jump runways were against the wall.

  So, for me, for practice purposes, I wanted to win to be
• 13:26
  going the opposite direction so they would be at the other end
• 13:29
  of the track doing this because if they were down by the Finish
• 13:32
  Line, everybody stop to watch. So I'm like can we do some black

  guards please and put watch him, he's doing so but it but it but
• 13:41
  it was just such an Energy, you know like that.

  My question for you is sometimes it's something that gets lost a

  lot is The Great Battle of your Christian ways to 2011.

  You're in the middle of that right at the NCAA championships.

  It's like so like just talk to me what's going through your

  mind during that, you know, it was as a coach, it was an

  incredible thing to watch. You know, how she was better
• 14:04
  because you guys were on my team, right?

  But you were so tell me what you, what you were feeling

  during that time. Me and honestly, I felt like
• 14:14
  going into it. I knew I was ready and I know
• 14:17
  Christian was ready. And I knew that Christian was.

  I knew he was slow playing me a little bit.

  I know he was kind of slow playing me, like I'm not going
• 14:32
  to really push it that much. I practice because I know I'm
• 14:36
  ready. And so my eye cool.

  All right, so we get the jump in a no Christian he's going.

  He just If you put it out there, he gonna go.

  It's right. Where we put our first jump out
• 14:46
  there and I'm like, oh, I'm on today, like, come on.

  So I go, boom, Kristen come behind me.

  Boom. All right, cool, my time.

  And it was, it was just like a Tit for Tat, Tit for Tat, Tit

  for Tat, and I was just like, wow, like we just took it to a

  level where we neither of us knew.

  We were going to jump that far, you know, I'm looking up and I'm
• 15:08
  looking at the bottom like thing.

  Now, we're jumping 58 feet like, We didn't ever think we're going
• 15:13
  to jump that far. And so, it was really in a I
• 15:16
  appreciated it so much because he brought it out.
• 15:20
  And, and I know that I brought it out of him at the.
• 15:24
  So, obviously, we knew as far as the team, we knew we was going
• 15:28
  to get those points for the team.
• 15:30
  And it was just for us on the runway.
• 15:32
  It was just like, well, who's gonna who's gonna take it out,
• 15:35
  who's gonna get it, you know, and it was just, It also showed
• 15:41
  us that we were. We were ready to go and compete
• 15:47
  against the, the guys that we watch on TV and guys, that were
• 15:51
  jumping in Europe and stuff like that.
• 15:53
  But, oh, yeah, okay, we can do this together here right now.
• 15:56
  We can do this anywhere in the world and we can take this show
• 15:59
  on the road. That's, that was kind of how we
• 16:01
  felt, you know, going from there, but it was, it was just a
• 16:04
  special moment that we both. We both brought ourselves
• 16:07
  outside of our bodies, you know, outside or outside of our minds,
• 16:10
  I should say. And from there on the sky was
• 16:14
  the limit. Yeah, well, you know that's
• 16:18
  that's that's really interesting for me as a fan of these events
• 16:23
  and somebody who's watched you guys collegiately and then
• 16:27
  throughout, you know, the transition of both of your
• 16:30
  careers, which obviously has been spectacular.
• 16:34
  That's obviously the embassy of this, you know, career long
• 16:38
  battle that you two have had. What is that rivalry meant to
• 16:42
  you because it's rare. Like you guys are at the same
• 16:47
  place at the height of your powers for all this time.
• 16:49
  It's been y'all show, its that's probably been.
• 16:55
  One of the biggest blessings honestly, for my career.
• 16:59
  You know, I could I could even speak on high school when I was

  gon die. Stadt and I see Christian jump

  52 to. And I'm like, all right.

  Well, I got to jump further than that, you know, I gotta go 52

  for and then know he come back. I know he's looking.

  So we come back. He got 50 to 60 and then, you

  know, we take that into we take that into college.

  I remember my freshman year at Oklahoma.

  Yeah, it was both our freshman Years and we're at Texas A&M

  indoors and I was our first time meeting each other.

  We never met each other until that we never saw each other
• 17:38
  person until this moment when we jump in against each other at
• 17:41
  Nationals. And so it just was like seeing
• 17:45
  like, Like the unreal purse. Like this dude is is do is
• 17:51
  really real like that. That's Christian.

  Alright, like dang man. I've been competing against you
• 17:57
  for all this time. And I now I'm finally seeing you
• 17:59
  in person and it's just, it's just cold or like to be going
• 18:02
  through this with you not feel like we're gonna bring it.

  We don't bring the best out of each other.

  And that was the conversation that we had and it was just it
• 18:11
  was just a Like right away, it was mutual respect, you know,
• 18:17
  and it was the same thing for Omar to.

  I remember the first time I jump to get, so more in at a younger
• 18:22
  age. I think I might have been a
• 18:23
  sophomore in high school. And, you know, I was on the
• 18:27
  track team that didn't we didn't really have much money and suit,
• 18:31
  I would go to a tracking with a white t own and some some grey
• 18:35
  sweats. And so I go to this meat and I'm
• 18:39
  like dang, who is this buff dude with what all this gyro like he
• 18:44
  had braids yabbies and his Braves and he had the whole like
• 18:48
  jumps Corp, everything is branded and he's just as looking
• 18:52
  like a professional my tank. Is this dude?
• 18:55
  Like he's about to kill me like he on another level so we get
• 19:01
  the jump and jump and jump in and I'm like, dang, he put that
• 19:03
  pressure on me and I ended up, I ended up beating him, but I was
• 19:06
  like, man. Man, like he's in a different.

  He's in a different League like within track of feel like I'm
• 19:11
  just out here, just having fun with it.

  He's for real because that was kind of the first time I got,
• 19:19
  you know, in contact with Omar from there.

  We just became tight to and it translated to when we got to
• 19:28
  Florida to where it's like dang it.
• 19:30
  We actually all ended up on the same team.

  It's a wrap, we taking over the hole.

  Taking over the whole game. And that's, that's kind of how,

  you know, we even on my visit and I took my visit.

  There was just like, I mean, where else would there be two to
• 19:45
  be? Where else with it?

  Is there to go? You know, like this is where you

  got to be. I mean coach Booth is here.

  You guys are here. We just don't take over the

  whole world. That's kind of how a many all

  did I used to? I used to accuse Mouse of

  assembling The Avengers. He still does it.

  So, you know, obviously being around you.

  I've always knew of your love for music, but you never let on

  to me that that was your a passion of yours that you want

  to pursue producing your own stuff.

  many, oh, and I was listen. I'm like, that's will right?

  I think it took me gaining confidence.

  I think it took me gaining confidence in myself to, to

  really do it in a way that because I would always make

  music, and I was just hold, our hold on to it, and I was just

  listen to it, maybe a few friends, like, even me a home

  where we live together. We will make songs at the house,

  but we never like me, just never told Anybody about it?

  And so you know as the years went on and on and I did it more

  and I just I got more reps at it and I felt like I was at a place
• 21:06
  to where all right now, I think people can digest this the right
• 21:10
  way and because I know a lot of athletes have as a hobby just

  tried to do that and it just it's just like that's like no
• 21:23
  stick to him saying what you doing with your support.

  Like, Shaq, Kobe, Carl Lewis. Like,

  if you haven't seen the Carl Lewis music video.

  That is Wills fault. Yeah.

  And so I'm like, I'm not putting this out, you know, and as I was

  able to like even I think after I was out of school and I just

  have more time like I'm not a I'm not a big, I don't like type

  video games and I just didn't really I wasn't doing anything.

  So I was just so I was like, well sure I got time now.

  I'm not at school. So then I start to record a lot

  more and that was kind of just a great for me.

  To get away and then and just you know, just switch my energy

  off. And so at that point is when I

  was like, all right. Now, I'm at a point where I put

  this music out there and that was that was kind of round 2013

  2012. I'm not gonna lie.

  I think I can own this. Like, like I believe most people

  should years ago when I first heard.

  Oh, you here will got album. Like really is that what we're

  doing now? Like come on, but then I heard

  it and I'm like, actually that boy's good.

  Yeah, it was crazy for me because, you know, I'm a West

  Coast baby and your sound is very West Coast.

  So I appreciate it at a different level just because,

  you know, You know, that's a vibe that we have.

  So for like, when you really started to realize, like okay, I

  can do this just as well as I can.

  Do, you know my profession, you know, in protract like you got

  coaches in athletics, who are your like main influences that
• 23:33
  helped you, you know, crystallized your sound and kind
• 23:38
  of dial in like, you know how that all played out.

  Um, Man, I would say, firstly it was it was yg?

  Yg was like the first person to really bring into the studio DJ
• 23:54
  Mustard. Ty$, you know, on just that
• 23:57
  whole can't really just brought me in and, and, and just help me

  just not even by doing anything, but just by letting me be in a
• 24:05
  room and just seeing the process.

  And then from there, just Whenever I had time, I would
• 24:13
  just go to La and getting getting in studio sessions.

  I got be in studio with Juicy J, man.

  It's another it's this this other do was named Eric.

  He, he wrote Derek Milano. He wrote a lot of records for
• 24:30
  Beyonce and made stallion stuff like that.

  And just being in a studio with these type of people and seeing
• 24:37
  the process of my old hanging like, okay, like, you know, I
• 24:40
  just kind of you Take from that and put it in my own toolbox.

  And it really helped me. It helped me tremendously, and

  then obviously, like a lot of my good friends.

  They are artists to like one of my friends.

  He signed to Interscope another my, another one of my boys here
• 24:56
  apps to. So like just Being in in close

  proximity with them, you know, and they all they all West Coast
• 25:04
  guys. So like it's only gonna rub off

  on me and so from there. I just you know, I just felt

  like I was able to build my own sound in my own person just from

  from that and I want like because a lot of people probably
• 25:20
  still are just coming onto the fact that your music is out

  there, like go, listen to it. Like that's the thing that I

  appreciate you. Do have your own sap.

  I, when I hear you, I don't hear like, oh, he trying to do like

  this person. Like you have a very unique

  sound and it's skills. So I you know, amen, props.

  I'm working a lot of work into it and it's definitely a very

  tedious tedious day, similar, triple jump, you know, it's very

  tedious and you got to kind of just master master it and get

  your reps in. You know, it's just takes a lot

  of a lot of just doing it over and over and over and over and

  over and you get more comfortable with the SS as you
• 26:05
  go, so I want to jump in here and ask.

  Probably a question every every jumper or jumps.

  Dawn Staley to the 20. Point four million dollar

  the importance of it and the levels to it, but the bottom

  line is, she deserved it. And so often in our business of

  College athletics, deserving people never see the money that

  they rightfully should get. And so for her to get that on

  time when she deserved it, at the height of her powers is

  amazing and I hope It leads to some kind of trend, not just in

  the basketball world, that moves the needle across the board and

  coaches start getting fairly compensated for the work and the

  production that they have Standing Ovation to Dawn and her

  crew. And honestly to the

  administration, I don't know the ins and outs of how it got done.

  But that was the only decision to make and the fact that

  everybody was so blown away by the number.
