- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken Plus. It's your extra dose
- 0:06Speaker 1: of the hottest influencer and pop culture news. I'm Kate Torber.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And I'm Sophie Torber. And happy seventh birthday to us.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I cannot believe that Outspoken is seven years old. I
- 0:18Speaker 1: actually had to put it in my calendar because I
- 0:20Speaker 1: keep forgetting the day. I'm like, I know roughly we
- 0:23Speaker 1: started it in July 2019. But when the notification popped up,
- 0:27Speaker 1: I was like, wow. That's crazy. 2019 feels like a
- 0:31Speaker 1: long time ago now when you think about it. I mean,
- 0:34Speaker 1: we hadn't even been through COVID. We were still in
- 0:36Speaker 1: our 20s. I remember I was freaking out about turning 30.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like we've really grown up on
- 0:41Speaker 1: this podcast because yes, we were 29 when we started.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We had boyfriends at the time. I mean, you'd only
- 0:47Speaker 1: just started dating your partner, hadn't you, Kate? Yeah. Amy
- 0:50Speaker 1: and I were living together and you had just moved out.
- 0:52Speaker 1: So Part of the reason why we started the podcast
- 0:55Speaker 1: was so we had time to actually hang out, like
- 0:56Speaker 1: an excuse to hang out. Yeah. I mean, I didn't
- 0:58Speaker 1: even have my dog Archie then. Like we didn't have
- 1:01Speaker 1: our kids. We hadn't bought our houses. We hadn't had
- 1:04Speaker 1: our weddings. Like I actually want to go back and
- 1:06Speaker 1: listen to some of our early episodes. I'll probably cringe
- 1:08Speaker 1: because they're that bad. Yeah. I actually don't want to
- 1:10Speaker 1: do that to myself. And I'm annoyed that you've brought
- 1:12Speaker 1: it up because I don't want listeners to go back
- 1:14Speaker 1: and listen either. Well, I'm almost having a bit of
- 1:16Speaker 1: PTSD because I thought it would be fun to go
- 1:19Speaker 1: And have a look at some of the reviews we've
- 1:21Speaker 1: received over the past seven years. Everyone knows I'm the
- 1:23Speaker 1: queen of reviews. I always go and check them out.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And you're not talking about nice reviews, because you don't
- 1:29Speaker 1: even notice those ones. You only hone in on the
- 1:31Speaker 1: negative reviews. And for a long time, people have been
- 1:33Speaker 1: asking us, oh, can you do a segment where you
- 1:36Speaker 1: read out your mean reviews, similar to that late night
- 1:38Speaker 1: show that did the celebrities reading the mean tweet. So
- 1:40Speaker 1: here it is today. Well, I actually feel like I'm
- 1:42Speaker 1: almost sweating a bit because I've gone back in time
- 1:45Speaker 1: and I'm cringing thinking about Maybe these people had a point.
- 1:50Speaker 1: This is the tricky thing because there's three of us
- 1:52Speaker 1: and we all have different opinions. Sometimes we get slammed
- 1:55Speaker 1: for someone else's opinion and you're like, well, I don't
- 1:57Speaker 1: even agree with that. I'm getting these negative reviews about it. Also,
- 2:00Speaker 1: over the seven years, as we've established, a lot of
- 2:03Speaker 1: things change in our lives. we grew up a lot
- 2:06Speaker 1: and you also become better at what you do and
- 2:08Speaker 1: trying to see all points of view. Well, you hope
- 2:11Speaker 1: you can become better. Well, I actually forgot. So when
- 2:13Speaker 1: we started, I think we had the tagline that we
- 2:16Speaker 1: have the opinion that most people won't say or something
- 2:18Speaker 1: like it was, do you remember what was it? We'll
- 2:21Speaker 1: say what you're thinking or something along those lines. And
- 2:24Speaker 1: a lot of people are like, wow, I wasn't thinking that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, okay. It's also funny to think what
- 2:30Speaker 1: our relationship with influencers was like at the time because
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'd say we were kind of fangirls and we were
- 2:36Speaker 1: big Sarah's Day fans. And being involved in the podcast
- 2:39Speaker 1: and covering all of those controversies that she was involved
- 2:42Speaker 1: in at the time, it was kind of like a
- 2:44Speaker 1: light bulb moment. I remember when that Moroccan pillow drama happened.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And I had to fight with you and Amy and
- 2:51Speaker 1: be like, no, this is how we're going to cover it.
- 2:54Speaker 1: You guys are being fangirls. You need to realize that
- 2:57Speaker 1: this was not a good thing. Oh, there's a couple
- 3:00Speaker 1: of comments where they're like, I can't believe you guys
- 3:02Speaker 1: are sticking up for Sarah's day. And I was like, oh,
- 3:04Speaker 1: it's funny how our views have evolved, as you say, Kate. Anyway,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm actually going to kick things off with a positive review.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And this is a shout out to OG. listener, Rodney.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So I smiled to myself because he was one of
- 3:16Speaker 1: the first people to leave us a review and he wrote,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure 45 year old men are not the
- 3:21Speaker 1: target demographic for this podcast, but for some reason I
- 3:24Speaker 1: keep tuning in for their take on current events and
- 3:26Speaker 1: some of their fun interviews. Well done on a thoughtful
- 3:29Speaker 1: and entertaining podcast. So thank you. It's funny because as
- 3:33Speaker 1: someone who is an avid viewer of our reviews, quite
- 3:37Speaker 1: often we're people go and change their review. So I'll
- 3:40Speaker 1: see it, the same name pop up over time and
- 3:43Speaker 1: they've suddenly decided to write another nasty one. But thank you, Rodney,
- 3:46Speaker 1: for keeping it nice. The same nice comment for six
- 3:49Speaker 1: years or seven years. Let's get into another comment. So
- 3:54Speaker 1: the title is Basic. This podcast is try hard shameless,
- 3:57Speaker 1: except the hosts are bland, immature and boring. Honestly, their
- 4:01Speaker 1: attitudes remind me of high school level bullying. Definitely would
- 4:05Speaker 1: recommend to skip out of this podcast if you haven't
- 4:07Speaker 1: listened yet. It is insufferable content. When was that one written?
- 4:11Speaker 1: It says six years ago, but I actually think these
- 4:14Speaker 1: are supposed to say seven years ago. Oh, I'm glad
- 4:16Speaker 1: it's not a recent one. But I mean, these are
- 4:19Speaker 1: all from the archives. The ones I've started to read
- 4:21Speaker 1: out are the ones from 2019. I mean, that was
- 4:23Speaker 1: quite a common thread that people would compare us to Shameless.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And obviously, we were pretty incomparable at the time. I mean,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Shameless were massive they had honed their craft. And yes,
- 4:34Speaker 1: we weren't as good as Shameless. Yeah, there were also
- 4:36Speaker 1: a lot of reviews referring to Shameless because we decided
- 4:39Speaker 1: to critique Shameless and the way that they evolved as
- 4:43Speaker 1: a podcast and how they stopped talking about influencer culture.
- 4:45Speaker 1: So here is another review. This is a copycat of
- 4:48Speaker 1: Shameless without the intelligence of the Shameless host. The critique
- 4:52Speaker 1: in the recent episode of Shameless was really tactless and
- 4:54Speaker 1: shows how much less grace and nuance the hosts have.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Compared to Shameless. Unsurprising how unsuccessful this podcast is. What
- 5:03Speaker 1: I don't get is at the time, we literally had
- 5:06Speaker 1: like 500 to 1,000 people listening. And even though we
- 5:11Speaker 1: were the underdogs, people were really mad at us for
- 5:14Speaker 1: that take on Shameless. But also in saying that, I
- 5:18Speaker 1: think it kind of put us on the map. And
- 5:19Speaker 1: a lot of people who agreed with us at the
- 5:21Speaker 1: time became longtime listeners of the show. And we've noticed
- 5:25Speaker 1: that as a thread. Over the years, we've ruffled feathers
- 5:28Speaker 1: with influencers and they might have called us out on
- 5:30Speaker 1: their platforms. But funnily enough, that's actually really beneficial for
- 5:34Speaker 1: us because a lot of the people that follow them
- 5:36Speaker 1: that are probably hate following the influencers then come across
- 5:39Speaker 1: and start being avid listeners of our podcast. Yeah, I
- 5:43Speaker 1: do want to point out that a lot of people
- 5:44Speaker 1: were actually applauding our episode on the Shameless podcast and
- 5:48Speaker 1: saying that we were bang on. So the next review says,
- 5:51Speaker 1: not sure it's possible to find anything more irritating than
- 5:54Speaker 1: three adult, in capitals, women talking about their boyfriends that
- 5:58Speaker 1: we don't know for an entire episode and bickering like schoolgirls.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I want to go back and listen to this episode.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I can't even remember what we said. Even hearing the
- 6:07Speaker 1: word boyfriend, that was what made me be like, oh, wow, like,
- 6:10Speaker 1: they were only our boyfriends then. It's interesting because as
- 6:13Speaker 1: you've mentioned, we started Outspoken when we were 29 and
- 6:16Speaker 1: there was a lot of emphasis on the fact that
- 6:18Speaker 1: we were turning 30 soon and kind of freaking out
- 6:20Speaker 1: about it. And I actually think even being so young
- 6:25Speaker 1: and 29 and 30, that there was a lot of
- 6:28Speaker 1: age shaming going on in our comment section. It was like, oh,
- 6:31Speaker 1: how dare these 29 year old ancient women have a
- 6:35Speaker 1: podcast and an opinion on things. Like now that we're 37,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, we were absolute babies. I know. Now
- 6:41Speaker 1: we've moved into 2020. This one is entitled Pathetic. This
- 6:44Speaker 1: is really disappointing. You girls seem to thrive off negativity
- 6:48Speaker 1: and genuinely enjoy downgrading other people. This is the first
- 6:51Speaker 1: episode I'm listening to and it's just outright rude. Another said,
- 6:55Speaker 1: embarrassing to listen to. If you want to listen to
- 6:58Speaker 1: three girls tearing down other women who are successful, then
- 7:01Speaker 1: backing it up with, we are journalists, that's why we
- 7:03Speaker 1: do it, Go ahead. Cringe, embarrassing and hateful podcast. This
- 7:08Speaker 1: has been a common theme. If you're a female and
- 7:11Speaker 1: you have a podcast and you talk about another woman's actions,
- 7:15Speaker 1: you're always accused of tearing other women down. And it
- 7:18Speaker 1: just annoys me. It's like, oh, okay, because we're all female.
- 7:20Speaker 1: We're not allowed to critique someone who is also female. Secondly...
- 7:24Speaker 1: If that's what the person believes, then why are they
- 7:27Speaker 1: tearing us down in our reviews? Like, isn't that hypocritical?
- 7:29Speaker 1: You know what? I mean, I was piecing things together
- 7:32Speaker 1: looking at these ones from 2020 and it was when
- 7:34Speaker 1: we focused, I think we had a segment on influencer
- 7:37Speaker 1: Madison Bulley. So I think a lot of these comments
- 7:39Speaker 1: came from her friends because another one said, outright bullying,
- 7:42Speaker 1: find a better hobby than talking about people you do
- 7:44Speaker 1: not know. This one made me laugh. These three sounded
- 7:47Speaker 1: like jealous women who were still not over the fact
- 7:49Speaker 1: that they attended public schools, unlike some influencers. I've never
- 7:53Speaker 1: been a fan of influencer culture. However, their podcast comes
- 7:56Speaker 1: across as nasty, tone deaf and bullying in nature. Yuck. Yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: I'm pretty proud that I went to a public school,
- 8:03Speaker 1: to be honest. Public and proud. Clearly written by someone
- 8:06Speaker 1: who went to a private school and thinks they're better
- 8:08Speaker 1: than everyone because they did so. Well, this was now
- 8:11Speaker 1: a critique about editing, which I probably had to tend
- 8:13Speaker 1: to agree with at the time. Someone wrote, lately, the
- 8:16Speaker 1: edits have been horrendous. Double takes left in ads that
- 8:19Speaker 1: just cut in over the top of a conversation. Also,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I don't think there is a depth of knowledge around
- 8:24Speaker 1: topics that are very important to be clear on. A
- 8:27Speaker 1: couple of years ago, we had a lot of negative
- 8:29Speaker 1: reviews because there was this ad that was voiced by
- 8:33Speaker 1: Art Simon, who's a drag performer. And basically there was
- 8:37Speaker 1: an error on our network's behalf where it just kept playing.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Like we actually didn't get paid anything for it. It
- 8:44Speaker 1: was a full mistake. And just like out of nowhere,
- 8:47Speaker 1: this fucking ad would cut in and I was like,
- 8:49Speaker 1: I am Art Simone. And everyone was just like, could
- 8:52Speaker 1: you stop playing that fucking ad? And we're like, I
- 8:55Speaker 1: didn't even know what's happening here. Like we were like,
- 8:57Speaker 1: surely that ad's run out by now. But yeah, I mean-
- 9:00Speaker 1: I think we should have got paid for that because,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I mean, it clearly got in people's heads. I mean,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I felt like we were owed something because we got
- 9:06Speaker 1: all these negative reviews and it was not our fault
- 9:09Speaker 1: at all. Someone else wrote, such a bittersweet love of
- 9:12Speaker 1: this podcast. Love some topics covered and just general opinions
- 9:15Speaker 1: about social media. Hate that sometimes the girls just ramble
- 9:18Speaker 1: on such annoying topics and go on real tangents. Also
- 9:22Speaker 1: find myself skipping through a lot of the episodes. Please
- 9:24Speaker 1: start timestamping. Please. I mean, we still don't timestamp, do we?
- 9:28Speaker 1: Apple and Spotify now do it automatically. So it's very
- 9:30Speaker 1: helpful for people who don't want to listen to us
- 9:32Speaker 1: rambling on. I've now skipped forward to 2021. Now someone
- 9:35Speaker 1: suggested to skip the pit and peak segment that we
- 9:38Speaker 1: used to have. They said, not interested. Listen for the
- 9:40Speaker 1: influencer slash pop culture updates, not for personal stories. Now
- 9:44Speaker 1: that really did play on our mind because we ended
- 9:46Speaker 1: up getting rid of our intro for quite some time
- 9:48Speaker 1: at the start because we would usually catch up on
- 9:50Speaker 1: what we'd been up to. Yeah, this has been a
- 9:52Speaker 1: bone of contention because when I listen to podcasts, I
- 9:55Speaker 1: actually am interested in the host's personal lives And I always.
- 9:59Speaker 1: think it's good to include little bits here and there.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That's why we moved that segment or that style of
- 10:04Speaker 1: segment to the end of our Friday shows. And then
- 10:07Speaker 1: we ended up getting rid of it completely. But it
- 10:10Speaker 1: would be interesting to know if people actually do enjoy
- 10:12Speaker 1: hearing a little bit of an update. I've just found
- 10:14Speaker 1: another one. I've never written a podcast review and don't
- 10:17Speaker 1: want to be brutal, but I think there needs to
- 10:18Speaker 1: be less talking about the girl's own mundane life problem
- 10:21Speaker 1: slash boring chat at the beginning. We heard about Easter eggs,
- 10:24Speaker 1: Christmas decorations and now losing keys. If the episodes jumped
- 10:28Speaker 1: straight into the stories, it would be so much better. See,
- 10:30Speaker 1: this just plays on my own fears that I have
- 10:33Speaker 1: boring stories to tell. Because whenever we're in a phase
- 10:36Speaker 1: where we're like, oh yeah, we should bring up personal updates.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Whenever I bring something up, you and Amy are like, no,
- 10:40Speaker 1: that's so fucking boring. Don't say it. I mean, we
- 10:42Speaker 1: had more interesting lives back then because we were childless.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like we were out and about,
- 10:47Speaker 1: like we were... I mean, I was going to say
- 10:48Speaker 1: whining and dining, but not as such. But I mean,
- 10:51Speaker 1: even this one, update, please stop discussing your weddings. I
- 10:53Speaker 1: understand it's important to you. Everyone who gets married or
- 10:56Speaker 1: has a baby feels exactly the same way. But honestly,
- 10:59Speaker 1: as a listener, it's a grueling, boring experience. Otherwise, love you.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And the below review applies. So they had left a
- 11:05Speaker 1: nicer review before that. It's so funny perspective because now
- 11:08Speaker 1: that our weddings were like, yours was two years ago,
- 11:10Speaker 1: mine was three years ago. And now that I'm out
- 11:12Speaker 1: of that bride phase, I completely agree with that review. Like,
- 11:15Speaker 1: I do find it boring hearing about other people's weddings.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So I'm sorry that everyone had to put up with that. Yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but then there were some people who were like, oh,
- 11:22Speaker 1: tell us more. We want to know everything. So, I mean,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you can't keep everyone happy. Oh, this is one that
- 11:26Speaker 1: I forgot about when we kept apparently pronouncing Kayla Itzenis'
- 11:30Speaker 1: name wrong. Someone said your Friday episode included multiple incorrect
- 11:33Speaker 1: pronunciations of Kayla Itzenis' name. It's seriously not that hard, girls. Dot, dot, dot. Again...
- 11:42Speaker 1: Having the last name Torba, it does piss me off
- 11:44Speaker 1: when people pronounce it wrong. So, you know. This one
- 11:47Speaker 1: was quite funny. Try hard wannabe C-grade celebs bagging out
- 11:51Speaker 1: actual C-grade celebs. That one actually irritates me because it
- 11:54Speaker 1: is so far from the truth. Like. Whenever we have
- 11:58Speaker 1: anyone come up to us and say, oh, I listened
- 12:00Speaker 1: to the podcast, I actually thank them for listening because
- 12:02Speaker 1: I just can't believe people even listen to it. And
- 12:04Speaker 1: often when I'm out and people come up to me,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I am looking like absolute shit. And there's a part
- 12:08Speaker 1: of me that's like offended that they've actually recognized me
- 12:11Speaker 1: as the same person on our artwork because obviously I
- 12:13Speaker 1: look much more polished in that. Do you know what?
- 12:15Speaker 1: This is actually making me realize that the reviews have
- 12:19Speaker 1: been quite kind to us lately because some people have
- 12:21Speaker 1: gone absolute ham. So I'm now in, I think, 2022
- 12:24Speaker 1: and Again, they're playing on the fact that we're in
- 12:29Speaker 1: our 30s. Weirdly immature for 30 plus. I enjoy some
- 12:32Speaker 1: of the topics you speak about and enjoy the influencer content.
- 12:35Speaker 1: But when you discuss your personal lives, I can't seem
- 12:37Speaker 1: to shake the vision that you three would be the
- 12:39Speaker 1: types to tell the teacher they hadn't checked homework or
- 12:43Speaker 1: give me dibba-dobba energy, a bit too straight-edged and PG
- 12:46Speaker 1: for my taste, in comparison to other podcasts who seem
- 12:49Speaker 1: mature and are a lot younger, e.g. Shameless. Bet you're
- 12:52Speaker 1: fun at parties. Another person said... Seriously impossible to listen
- 12:56Speaker 1: to now. Obviously a group of girls lacking life experience.
- 13:00Speaker 1: It's hard to believe they are in their 30s. All
- 13:02Speaker 1: their commentary is rude and closed-minded at times. Even to
- 13:06Speaker 1: extremes I cannot comprehend. That first one kind of hit
- 13:10Speaker 1: a nerve because I don't think I am someone that
- 13:13Speaker 1: is fun at a party and also we really were
- 13:16Speaker 1: tipper-doppers at primary school. How did they know? Was this
- 13:19Speaker 1: someone who went to school with us? I wouldn't say
- 13:22Speaker 1: that we're boring. I'm sorry, but if we were allowed
- 13:24Speaker 1: to share some of the shit that we've been going through,
- 13:26Speaker 1: particularly back then, my God, they would have been great stories.
- 13:29Speaker 1: People used to come up to us and say, your
- 13:31Speaker 1: life is like a reality show. That is the downside
- 13:34Speaker 1: of your podcast getting bigger because people you know start listening.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Because originally when you start a podcast- People kind of
- 13:42Speaker 1: like when you tell them you're doing a podcast, there's
- 13:44Speaker 1: this like pity that comes across their face. And I
- 13:46Speaker 1: even get it now. And I'm sometimes embarrassed to say
- 13:49Speaker 1: that's what I do because I feel like every man
- 13:51Speaker 1: and their dog has a podcast. But then when it
- 13:53Speaker 1: gets to a stage where people realize that it has
- 13:56Speaker 1: got a listenership, then they start tuning in. And then
- 13:59Speaker 1: you have to filter the stories that you tell in
- 14:02Speaker 1: case said person listens or someone tells the person that
- 14:05Speaker 1: you're talking about. So it gets really annoying because you're like, oh,
- 14:09Speaker 1: I would love to tell that story. That story is
- 14:11Speaker 1: so entertaining. But you don't want to invade other people's
- 14:15Speaker 1: privacy or getting back to them. No, it's really difficult.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And sometimes the people that you don't expect to listen
- 14:22Speaker 1: are the ones who end up listening. And that's also
- 14:23Speaker 1: why sometimes I feel more comfortable telling stories on our
- 14:27Speaker 1: subs channel because I'm like, well, I know that they're
- 14:29Speaker 1: not going as far as paying for this. Some people
- 14:32Speaker 1: brought up our arguing on Mike. Now that's actually quite
- 14:36Speaker 1: funny because on Friday night I reshared a video. I
- 14:41Speaker 1: think it was from three years ago when we were
- 14:44Speaker 1: starting to try and film episodes and it popped up
- 14:47Speaker 1: as a memory on my phone and I was like, oh,
- 14:49Speaker 1: what's this? I clicked on it straight away. It was
- 14:52Speaker 1: fuck you and like go fuck yourself and all this.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I've got to put this up.
- 14:57Speaker 1: This is so funny. I begged you not to share it.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And at the time, I didn't even know it was
- 15:01Speaker 1: me that was being the realist on there. I was like, oh,
- 15:04Speaker 1: I can't tell if that's me or Amy. But then
- 15:06Speaker 1: when you uploaded it, and originally you said you were
- 15:08Speaker 1: only uploading it to stories. So I was like, oh, okay, whatever,
- 15:12Speaker 1: it will disappear. But no, you put it on the grid.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Like it's there. It's permanent. Well, at least you're not
- 15:18Speaker 1: in it. It's only my face looking very nonchalant at
- 15:20Speaker 1: being yelled at. always throws me under the bus. She
- 15:23Speaker 1: then tags like, oh, Kate Torber going off. And it's like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: hang on a second. I have that many videos of
- 15:29Speaker 1: Amy absolutely losing her shit, but they're so bad that
- 15:32Speaker 1: like maybe we need a compilation video for the past
- 15:34Speaker 1: seven years. That would be funny. I was actually thinking,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I wish that we had archived all the arguments that
- 15:40Speaker 1: we had and we could have made some compilation episode
- 15:43Speaker 1: because normally once we're done, we just delete the audio file.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I mean, because people seem to enjoy it. They're like,
- 15:48Speaker 1: we want more of this. But some people in the
- 15:50Speaker 1: reviews didn't. One person wrote, their content is good, but
- 15:53Speaker 1: the hosts are constantly yelling over each other and disagreeing,
- 15:56Speaker 1: which is hard to listen to. Another said, great content,
- 15:59Speaker 1: but the shouting and fighting is really hard to listen to.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I get that. So you've got to be selective with
- 16:05Speaker 1: the fights that you share because you've got to pick
- 16:07Speaker 1: one that at least we can look back and laugh.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Like some of them you'll send me and I'm like,
- 16:12Speaker 1: I can't even watch it. It's so awful. Yeah, that's
- 16:14Speaker 1: just vile. Like I actually went back to look at
- 16:17Speaker 1: more videos from that day and I'd set up my
- 16:20Speaker 1: camera and I'd gone to the bathroom and it was
- 16:22Speaker 1: actually just Amy bitching about me behind my back saying, oh,
- 16:25Speaker 1: she's so arrogant and she's just getting upset because there's
- 16:28Speaker 1: lines on her face and she doesn't like the lighting.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And I was like– This is very mean, but I
- 16:33Speaker 1: probably wouldn't share this again. I'm now up to two
- 16:36Speaker 1: years ago. So someone said, not terrible, but the constant
- 16:40Speaker 1: mispronunciation of words. For example, especially, I actually did used
- 16:44Speaker 1: to say that. I'm sorry. Aren't you all journalists and
- 16:47Speaker 1: mispronunciation of people's names and places? Also, what is the
- 16:50Speaker 1: constant obsession with obscure UK influencers like Molly May? And
- 16:54Speaker 1: they spelt Molly May incorrectly. I'm sorry. She's not an
- 16:56Speaker 1: obscure influencer. She's the fucking biggest influence in the UK.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It's funny because when we started the podcast, the whole
- 17:03Speaker 1: premise was that we were going to talk about things
- 17:04Speaker 1: that we want to talk about. So Yeah, we will
- 17:07Speaker 1: talk about UK influencers who we follow and a lot
- 17:10Speaker 1: of people may not follow them. And it's funny because
- 17:12Speaker 1: the influencer space has changed that much over the last
- 17:14Speaker 1: seven years that there is just a saturation of influencers.
- 17:18Speaker 1: So more likely than not, we're going to start talking
- 17:21Speaker 1: about people that you may not follow. But I think
- 17:23Speaker 1: that was back when there was just the core OG influencers.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I mean, we also get criticized for talking about the
- 17:30Speaker 1: same people. So you can't win, can you? No, you can't.
- 17:33Speaker 1: This one made me laugh. It's been left by someone
- 17:36Speaker 1: called Krispy Kreme Donuts. And it just says, just sad
- 17:40Speaker 1: how three women can be so sad. Get a life
- 17:42Speaker 1: and stop talking rubbish. I mean, your name's fucking Krispy Kreme.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I mean, where are the sad ones? I do have
- 17:50Speaker 1: a bone to pick with Apple. I feel like if
- 17:53Speaker 1: you're allowed to leave a review... then there should be firstly,
- 17:57Speaker 1: right of reply. And secondly, the person should have to
- 17:59Speaker 1: leave their actual name. I agree. I mean, on Spotify,
- 18:03Speaker 1: there's a right of reply because these people write these
- 18:07Speaker 1: downright nasty, abusive things. And it's just up there as verbatim. Like,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you know, someone calls you a bully and you're not
- 18:14Speaker 1: even allowed to defend yourself. See, one of my favorite
- 18:17Speaker 1: pastimes is actually reading other people's podcast reviews because it
- 18:20Speaker 1: makes me feel better about our own. And my God,
- 18:23Speaker 1: some of the reviews on Mamma Mia and Shameless, which
- 18:25Speaker 1: are arguably, well, they factually are the top podcast, the
- 18:30Speaker 1: top female podcast in Australia, are incredibly mean. And I'm like,
- 18:35Speaker 1: so is it kind of good if you've got mean reviews? Like,
- 18:38Speaker 1: does that mean you've made it? See, I'm feeling like
- 18:40Speaker 1: we're kind of irrelevant because, I mean, I feel like
- 18:42Speaker 1: we were copying so many nasty reviews a couple of
- 18:44Speaker 1: years ago. Now we don't get many. I mean, we're
- 18:45Speaker 1: going to have to start talking about ourselves again because
- 18:47Speaker 1: it clearly riles people up. This one was funny. I
- 18:50Speaker 1: find this podcast so awful. I love pop culture podcasts,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but this one is a miss. The hosts have nothing
- 18:57Speaker 1: intelligent to say. The topic slash people discussed is so
- 19:00Speaker 1: unimportant and boring. I just listened to a segment about
- 19:04Speaker 1: an influencer who drinks flat soft drink. What? I feel
- 19:08Speaker 1: like that was a topic Amy brought to the podcast.
- 19:10Speaker 1: That was about Georgia Richards who opens up Pepsi's when
- 19:14Speaker 1: they're fresh from the shop and then leaves them in
- 19:16Speaker 1: the fridge for a day to get flat. Then it continues.
- 19:20Speaker 1: The three sisters all convince each other that feedback or
- 19:22Speaker 1: criticism they get from people is wrong. Dot, dot, dot. Guys, honestly,
- 19:25Speaker 1: your content is not good. You lack nuance. You don't
- 19:29Speaker 1: sound like journalists. You claim to be. Don't waste your time.
- 19:33Speaker 1: The fact that we refer to ourselves as journalists really
- 19:36Speaker 1: seems to piss people off. It's like, I'm sorry, but
- 19:38Speaker 1: we do have a journalism degree and we've got a
- 19:41Speaker 1: master's in journalism. Okay, stop, stop. They're going to leave
- 19:44Speaker 1: more nasty comments. Well, isn't that what you want? That's
- 19:46Speaker 1: what you said you wanted. Wow, true. Someone was really upset.
- 19:50Speaker 1: This is a year ago for me criticising Bali. I
- 19:54Speaker 1: think that that was when I was trying to work
- 19:56Speaker 1: out where to go on a honeymoon and I went
- 19:59Speaker 1: to Port Douglas and I said I didn't really want
- 20:00Speaker 1: to go to Bali because it's a bit full on.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Someone's like, lost me after bad-mouthing Bali. Here right now
- 20:06Speaker 1: and it's amazing. Weather divine. And by the way, get educated.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Hospitals are now world-class in Bali. Oh, that's good to know.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I tend to agree. I love Bali. Like I had
- 20:15Speaker 1: my honeymoon there. We went there for our 30th. I
- 20:18Speaker 1: won't hear you say a bad thing about Bali, Sophie.
- 20:20Speaker 1: What about that review? I think it was like last
- 20:23Speaker 1: year where someone said that Amy and I were mean
- 20:26Speaker 1: to you. Do you remember that? No, that wasn't a review.
- 20:28Speaker 1: That was actually a DM that someone sent me. And
- 20:32Speaker 1: they said that they felt really bad for me because
- 20:34Speaker 1: you guys always pick on me and that I'm their
- 20:36Speaker 1: favorite and they relate to me. I mean, maybe this
- 20:38Speaker 1: person has a point. Sick of hearing about the same
- 20:41Speaker 1: people over and over again. Cover some different people instead
- 20:44Speaker 1: of Indie, Sarah's Day and Molly May. Spell incorrectly again, please.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It's funny because over the last year or so, that's
- 20:50Speaker 1: now changed to people begging us to stop talking about
- 20:53Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough. And it's like, well, we could, but she
- 20:57Speaker 1: continues to deliver. Like her life is just so incredibly interesting.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And secondly... As a business, we look at the analytics
- 21:06Speaker 1: and every time Tammy Hembrough is mentioned in the title
- 21:09Speaker 1: of our podcast, we get way more downloads. We're now
- 21:12Speaker 1: catching up to current day. This one's from November 2025.
- 21:16Speaker 1: This is utter mindless rubbish. You can almost feel brain
- 21:19Speaker 1: cells dying as the minutes crawl by. Just stop. You're
- 21:22Speaker 1: not creative, interesting or clever. Get an actual job for
- 21:26Speaker 1: pity's sake. It's funny how the go-to is like, get
- 21:29Speaker 1: a real job. It's like, we do. We've been working
- 21:32Speaker 1: in the media industry for since we were like 21.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And for the majority of the time the podcast has
- 21:39Speaker 1: been airing, we worked a nine to five. Like it
- 21:42Speaker 1: was only a couple of years ago that I went
- 21:44Speaker 1: full time with the podcast because the demand was just
- 21:47Speaker 1: so great. And I think people forget that, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's not just setting up a microphone and talking into it.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Like there is a real business aspect to it. We've
- 21:54Speaker 1: got to do the accounts, the partnerships, all of the
- 21:58Speaker 1: run sheet, the producing, the editing, like we are a
- 22:01Speaker 1: team of just the three of us. Well, also Amy
- 22:03Speaker 1: and I still run our public relations firm up until
- 22:06Speaker 1: this point. As I mentioned on an episode this week,
- 22:09Speaker 1: we have scaled back since having our children. I mean,
- 22:12Speaker 1: and we are full-time mums. So I'm working harder than
- 22:15Speaker 1: I've ever worked in my whole fucking life, working my
- 22:17Speaker 1: ass off at the moment. I mean, Amy's not in
- 22:18Speaker 1: this episode because she's that fucking exhausted. But anyway, Kate,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you were actually correct. I found the reviews. So it's
- 22:25Speaker 1: called Be Nicer to Sophie. While I do really enjoy
- 22:29Speaker 1: the content, I do find that Sophie gets treated less
- 22:32Speaker 1: nicely than the other two girls treat each other, which
- 22:35Speaker 1: feels icky when listening. Even when she's not there and
- 22:37Speaker 1: referred to, there's a vibe, mainly more so by one
- 22:40Speaker 1: than the other, aka you, Kate. I actually find Sophie
- 22:43Speaker 1: the most likable. Maybe that's why, though. Thank you. That
- 22:48Speaker 1: was lovely. And hold on, can I point out, she
- 22:49Speaker 1: also left a four-star review instead of giving us a
- 22:51Speaker 1: nasty review. I think that listeners need to leave some
- 22:55Speaker 1: reviews saying that you and Amy have been nasty to me,
- 22:58Speaker 1: particularly on the subs episode, the one in question where
- 23:01Speaker 1: you guys went rogue. We weren't even rude to you.
- 23:03Speaker 1: You were, Sophie. Who said? No one kicked up a
- 23:07Speaker 1: stink about it. Anyone who thinks she was rude, leave
- 23:09Speaker 1: a review, please. All right, cool. It's like the fucking
- 23:12Speaker 1: carpet cleaner incident. That was a low. That was a
- 23:15Speaker 1: real low. We probably shouldn't even bring that one up.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But that was on the subs, wasn't it? You didn't
- 23:19Speaker 1: return my carpet cleaner for like two years and then
- 23:21Speaker 1: you said you couldn't return it because you had a child.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I'm not even going into that. All right. Because it
- 23:26Speaker 1: makes me too mad. All right. And apparently people don't
- 23:28Speaker 1: like us arguing on here. Now, well, again, are we
- 23:31Speaker 1: rage baiting because we want negative reviews? Oh, I want
- 23:33Speaker 1: positive reviews. Anyway. This one is really up to date.
- 23:36Speaker 1: This is the 14th of April. Stop saying kick to
- 23:38Speaker 1: the dick in capitals, please. It's so gross to hear.
- 23:41Speaker 1: That just shows you can't keep everyone happy. And I
- 23:43Speaker 1: think that is the moral of today's episode because we
- 23:46Speaker 1: have had an influx of people asking us to put
- 23:49Speaker 1: kick in the dick on merchandise. What do you think
- 23:52Speaker 1: our overall rating is? So we have had 2,179 reviews
- 23:57Speaker 1: over the seven years. So what do you think that
- 24:00Speaker 1: our overall number equates to? Out of five. Are those
- 24:04Speaker 1: written reviews or they're like people just putting the stars?
- 24:06Speaker 1: They're just people putting the stars. Oh, I know that
- 24:10Speaker 1: we have a lot of five stars and a lot
- 24:11Speaker 1: of one star. So I think overall it's like a three.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It's a 3.7, which actually isn't that bad. We're back, baby.
- 24:19Speaker 1: It's climbing up. I want to check Spotify now. What
- 24:21Speaker 1: was it on Spotify? Not the comments, obviously, because they
- 24:25Speaker 1: don't allow comments except on particular episodes. Isn't that right?
- 24:28Speaker 1: There's still mean ones on there. Oh, yes. But I mean,
- 24:31Speaker 1: like you have the right of reply at least. I mean,
- 24:33Speaker 1: that's the thing. Like I don't expect everyone to listen
- 24:35Speaker 1: to this podcast to be like, oh my God, this
- 24:37Speaker 1: is the best thing I've ever listened to. And over
- 24:39Speaker 1: the years, some of the criticism has been valid and
- 24:42Speaker 1: we have learned from it. But I just think sometimes
- 24:47Speaker 1: some of it isn't warranted. I'm looking at Spotify now.
- 24:50Speaker 1: We have a 4.1 star rating and have had 1.7
- 24:55Speaker 1: thousand reviews. So that's better. Yeah. The thing is, when
- 25:00Speaker 1: you go and find a podcast to listen to, do
- 25:03Speaker 1: you actually ever look at the reviews? I only look
- 25:05Speaker 1: at the reviews of podcasts that I listen to from
- 25:08Speaker 1: a pure perspective of knowing that we receive bad reviews
- 25:12Speaker 1: and wanting to see what people say about a podcast
- 25:15Speaker 1: that I like to make myself feel better. As a consumer, though,
- 25:18Speaker 1: I never go and look at them. If I hear
- 25:20Speaker 1: about a new podcast, I just listen to it. I
- 25:21Speaker 1: don't go and bother and look at the reviews and
- 25:23Speaker 1: see what people say because I always know that it's
- 25:25Speaker 1: just crap. It's interesting, though, because when I'm a fan
- 25:27Speaker 1: of a podcast and maybe a topic irritates me or
- 25:31Speaker 1: something one of the hosts says, you know, doesn't land
- 25:34Speaker 1: with me or maybe it's been feeling a bit off,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I will go look at the comments and see if
- 25:39Speaker 1: anyone feels the same way as me. So maybe it's
- 25:43Speaker 1: more of a place where listeners can go to be
- 25:46Speaker 1: validated on how they're feeling. Do you think that podcasters
- 25:49Speaker 1: should actually read the reviews and listen to the feedback? Look,
- 25:52Speaker 1: listeners will know that I am very anti-reading the negative reviews.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I mean, I know we've read them now for a
- 25:58Speaker 1: bit of fun, but I find it detrimental to my
- 26:01Speaker 1: own mental health if I go and check the reviews
- 26:04Speaker 1: every day and I find it impacts negatively on the
- 26:08Speaker 1: podcast because then I'll be second guessing everything I say
- 26:11Speaker 1: and how it's said or what we're reporting on. Because
- 26:13Speaker 1: as much as I do think constructive criticism is helpful,
- 26:17Speaker 1: when it's coming from anonymous people who you don't know
- 26:21Speaker 1: what their intentions are, like there could be people that
- 26:23Speaker 1: don't like you that know you in your personal life
- 26:25Speaker 1: or people that you've spoken about on the podcast that
- 26:27Speaker 1: have a vendetta, like you don't actually know who's writing
- 26:30Speaker 1: the reviews. I take constructive criticism on board when it's
- 26:35Speaker 1: actually emailed to us directly from listeners who put their
- 26:39Speaker 1: names and faces to it and actually write presenter in
- 26:43Speaker 1: a constructive way other than, oh, you guys are fucking
- 26:46Speaker 1: 30 and old and boring. It has been a bit
- 26:48Speaker 1: of a wild ride looking back at some of these reviews.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And for some reason, it's made me feel nostalgic, which
- 26:53Speaker 1: is kind of funny. But you're just looking at them,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you remember the different stories that you were talking about.
- 26:59Speaker 1: And the thing that excites me is it's been seven years,
- 27:02Speaker 1: but I'm just as excited to get on the microphone
- 27:04Speaker 1: and discuss pop culture and discuss the influencer world. I
- 27:08Speaker 1: just love it so much. We're just so honored that
- 27:11Speaker 1: so many of you enjoy what we speak about. I mean,
- 27:13Speaker 1: as we've touched on, some people haven't enjoyed it, but
- 27:16Speaker 1: those of you who are paid subscribers, we love every
- 27:19Speaker 1: single one of you and just thank you so much
- 27:20Speaker 1: for the support. It's funny because we often get asked like, oh,
- 27:23Speaker 1: do you ever run out of things to speak about?
- 27:25Speaker 1: And it's like seven years in, no. If anything, the
- 27:28Speaker 1: volume of stories has increased. I think when we reach
- 27:31Speaker 1: our 10 year anniversary, we've got to go back and
- 27:33Speaker 1: find our top favorite stories and revisit them because there
- 27:37Speaker 1: are some absolutely hilarious ones. The Olivia White, body shaped
- 27:42Speaker 1: glasses springs to mind. Like I want to listen to
- 27:44Speaker 1: the Moroccan pillows. I want to go and find the
- 27:47Speaker 1: episode when I got Archie. And because I remember my
- 27:50Speaker 1: voice was so croaky and I was just exhausted. And
- 27:54Speaker 1: also the episode where I secretly filmed Brandon's reaction to
- 27:57Speaker 1: Archie being shaved and him losing it. He still does
- 28:00Speaker 1: not know about that. Don't bring that up tonight. I won't.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I won't. We've got family dinner tonight, so I'll keep
- 28:05Speaker 1: that one under wraps. But thank you so much for
- 28:08Speaker 1: those listeners who have been along for the ride for
- 28:11Speaker 1: the last seven years with us, the OGs. We really
- 28:13Speaker 1: appreciate it. And everyone that we've picked up along the way.
- 28:16Speaker 1: This episode was recorded on the traditional land of the
- 28:19Speaker 1: Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to
- 28:22Speaker 1: elders past and present.
