- 5:20you to. Because you know, a lot of
- 5:23people suffering salad and they go years and years and the other
- 5:27story. And I don't know if that was
- 5:29your situation, did you go years and years without really scary?
- 5:33So I'm just going to let you just have your way.
- 5:36Thank you, thank you and y'all thank.
- 5:40We want to give a big shout out to Miss Janice Vans for setting

- 5:50Everything, women of every statue, every phase of your life
- 5:54to just come on here. Like, I really thought she was.
- 5:57You know, she stands for the marriage major.
- 6:00But I told her, I say Miss Janice ain't married no more.
- 6:03She was like, I ain't know that, But no, ma'am.
- 6:05This is what my podcast stand for.
- 6:07And I've been on board ever since.
- 6:09I've been stoked and excited ever since.
- 6:10So thank you, Miss Janice. For, you're welcome.
- 6:15And she say God leads her. And it's the reason why God led
- 6:20her to me. Because I'm here, y'all.
- 6:23And we're going to get into it. We're going to talk about how
- 6:25this progress been. But for the first time in my
- 6:29life, on me. Oh, Jesus.
- 6:32Hallelujah. Thank you.
- 6:34Thank you. Yes, Lord, I don't look like
- 6:37what I've been through, but let me tell you, let me share with
- 6:39child some of the stuff I've been through.
- 6:42My the title of my thing. My.
- 6:47That I chose was who are you when you look in that mirror?
- 6:52Who looking back at you? I asked my son that.
- 6:57He's 10. I said, who are you?
- 7:00And he was like, Mama, what kind of question is that?
- 7:02No, baby. Who are you?
- 7:04When you look in the mirror, who are you?
- 7:06And we start working on it and the man can lay out 10 things in
- 7:11in 10 seconds on who he is. Now let's just say that worked
- 7:14on it. You know we we speaking life
- 7:16into ourselves. If if I'm broken.
- 7:19No I'm fixed. You you speaking life.
- 7:21So it don't matter what you've been through when you look in
- 7:26that mirror. But let me give you a little bit
- 7:28background behind me. I'm Tiana.
- 7:32My name is just Tiana. With just Tiana.
- 7:36Because let me let me let me help you out.
- 7:39I've been married twice. This is my.
- 7:43Yeah, my third last night. So I got 3 aliases.
- 7:46So it's just Tiana. Don't call me.
- 7:48No nothing. That's it.
- 7:49But just no last night. But so I grew up in Houston, TX.
- 8:00I got 7 brothers. Y'all it's just me.
- 8:03I'm the girl only girl. It was hard with the Allen
- 8:09brothers, you can imagine, but I was a tone boy.
- 8:12But I end up being raped at 13 by my third cousin and it hurt
- 8:21me. I was confused.
- 8:22I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know.
- 8:24Not one thing about sex. I knew we had sex.
- 8:27She was pregnant. So here I am, 13 confused,
- 8:30thinking I'm pregnant. I think my cousin loved me and
- 8:34I'm going to have to figure out how to love him and had his
- 8:36baby. Oh oh man.
- 8:40So. After I didn't tell anybody, so
- 8:4616 because he lived out of town. So when I was 16 I seen him
- 8:50again and he had had a child and he didn't say nothing to me.
- 8:54He didn't look at me. He just passed by me because I
- 8:59went down there for a funeral and he just passed by me like he
- 9:01didn't know me and he hurt me y'all.
- 9:02And I was so confused and depressed and kind of like he
- 9:06don't love me but he has sex so I'm all over the place.
- 9:11But I held that secret. The first person I told about it
- 9:13was he became my husband. But his I told him about it when
- 9:18I was 18. He didn't know what to do with
- 9:21it. But when we got in marriage
- 9:23counseling, the first session at the marriage counseling, he told
- 9:26this woman My business, I'm sitting up there looking at him
- 9:29like. I know you didn't just tell her
- 9:33that. My deepest, darkest secret.
- 9:36And you just totally strange. From the first time, I only know
- 9:39this woman name. So that's what that's exactly
- 9:45what he was supposed to do. Because he he looked at me and
- 9:49he said, Tiana, you're suffering from it and I don't know how to
- 9:53help you, so I'm still got an attitude, but I'm going to
- 9:58listen to this lady, she said, well do you suffer from you
- 10:04don't like me and holding you down?
- 10:06You don't like rough sex. Like sometimes you have to stop.
- 10:09Like if you're feeling some type of way and don't want to do it
- 10:12again, you cry. Like it's a lot of emotional
- 10:15stuff that you deal with after that that I was unaware of and I
- 10:19was like this lady feed me how she knows.
- 10:22So y'all I was angry. It was a lot going on at that
- 10:25time. So she helped me tell my mom 1st
- 10:30and here I am at this point in my life I was.
- 10:34I was 26, so I was 13 and this was 26.
- 10:38So I had suffered in silence for 13 years, 13 years.
- 10:44Oh, and law and all the law and order SVU became my best friend
- 10:48because Olivia taught me everything there was to nothing.
- 10:54So I had to kind of work through some things after that, like
- 10:57trying to figure out like it's not my fault because, you know,
- 11:00the man told me it was my fault because I was.
- 11:03Playing with him, I was wearing some little shorts, you know,
- 11:06I'm a little kid, you know, so. But I had to get through some
- 11:09things. So I was married, broke up from
- 11:14that relationship, and I got into and I moved to Alabama and
- 11:18got into another relationship. Good Jesus.
- 11:22But out of that relationship, that's what a domestic violence
- 11:25came from. I was suffering from religious,
- 11:30domestic violence, digital, psychological, intellectual,
- 11:36emotional, verbal, like. It became my passion and I I
- 11:40studied on all types of it's. It's more but I studied on all
- 11:45types of abuse and once again because I was taking a class at
- 11:49this time I was in college for and taking a family violence
- 11:53class and y'all once again I'm being read.
- 11:56I'm like. I'm in a domestic violence
- 11:59relationship, This man. I'm thinking domestic violence
- 12:03is really wanting somebody hitting you in your face ain't
- 12:05gonna hit him a face, but can hit him everywhere else.
- 12:08And you know, I stayed in a relationship five years older
- 12:14marriage. I stayed there eight years.
- 12:16That marriage was very he. We were young.
- 12:19Let me tell you about that one. Sorry, I skipped that one.
- 12:22We got married at 21 because I was pregnant.
- 12:25We was in the military and I had orders to oversee.
- 12:28So in the military you want to stay with your baby, got to be
- 12:32married. So that was something me and him
- 12:35decided that was going to be the best for our relationship and we
- 12:38end up getting married. So and we had two children from
- 12:41that marriage and then like that didn't work out.
- 12:43Divorce from him with the the abuser.
- 12:48So I finally left that relationship and came back home.
- 12:51I came back home like two days after I graduated college
- 12:55because I had to stick it out. Came back home to Texas.
- 13:01I miss somebody else. Y'all.
- 13:04He was what I needed at that time.
- 13:07He was caring, sensitive to my needs, understanding.
- 13:10It was something that I never had in a relationship and he was
- 13:13my friend. But it didn't work out and
- 13:17that's okay. So after all of this, I'm, I'm,
- 13:21I'm y'all. I'm sitting in the bed 30 days
- 13:23crying. My children, good thing they
- 13:25knew how to drive because I was giving them my car.
- 13:28Go get the food. I'm in the bed.
- 13:29I'm crying. I don't feel like dealing with
- 13:31nothing. House is out of control, of
- 13:33course, which I was drinking my problems away and finally God,
- 13:40God just stopped me. He isolated me.
- 13:44So. I was working at a job and I had
- 13:51a mental breakdown, but my anxiety had been high for a
- 13:55while and I didn't know what it was.
- 13:57I'm just shaking, nervous, worrying about the future,
- 13:59worrying about everything. It got so bad.
- 14:01I'm driving and I have to sit on side the side of the road
- 14:04because I'm about to have panic attack.
- 14:06All kinds of stuff hit my way. So finally I got into
- 14:11counseling. I say, you know what?
- 14:13I'm going to work on myself because.
- 14:16I'm all over the place and all I needed to do y'all was heal my
- 14:21inner. I had to start by healing my
- 14:23inner child. I didn't even know it was a
- 14:25thing, but I had to work on healing that inner child.
- 14:29I had to because I'm the type I feel feelings hard, like if I
- 14:35think about. Like giving birth or whatever to
- 14:39my my children. Like I can feel it.
- 14:41I remember that pain. Like I can almost feel like I'm
- 14:44still there. I don't know why I feel like
- 14:45that, but it's due. So it's hard for me to feel
- 14:48emotions. I don't want to deal with it.
- 14:49I don't want to deal with it. I don't want to be sad.
- 14:51I don't want to cry. I don't want to deal with it.
- 14:54So I drink it away. I'm better tomorrow if I need
- 14:56smoke. We're going to drink again.
- 14:59That's what I did. Sad, but that's what I did.
- 15:03So and healing my inner child. Y'all I had to go back to when I
- 15:06was little. My brother's being mean to them.
- 15:10It did something to you. You don't.
- 15:13You don't think it. But those little bitty things
- 15:16can transform your life. And I had to go back and see
- 15:21where some of my behaviors come from.
- 15:23Like I had to look at me. Why do I do that?
- 15:25And y'all I would dig and find the answer and I felt.
- 15:30I felt like I was plucking the weeds because I'm healing
- 15:33myself. So all these things were taught
- 15:35in our life. I had to sit up there and really
- 15:38sit down and be like, do I believe this?
- 15:40It's not because Mama told me this, but do I believe it?
- 15:44I had to sit in the room and cry like a little baby holding
- 15:48myself, rocking baby. When I say I had to play out the
- 15:53whole situation and I had to be there and I had to cry.
- 15:57And I had to feel sorry for myself.
- 15:59And I went through it and I let it go.
- 16:02I never knew how to let because I never went all the way through
- 16:05it. It was just stuck.
- 16:06But finally, I I learned how to just let it go.
- 16:08Wendy. Fine.
- 16:09Y'all. It used to be so bad I couldn't
- 16:11watch the news because every time I watched the news I was
- 16:13affected by it. I feel bad for the mother that
- 16:16lost her child. Like I ain't been able to watch
- 16:19the news ever since I was pregnant with my first child.
- 16:22And that's been since 2003. And if I do do the news, I would
- 16:26go online and I'll pick and choose what I want to see
- 16:29because I know how I'm going to be.
- 16:33But after I heal that in a child and heal that teenager child and
- 16:37healed everything I was holding on to and I told those dark
- 16:42secrets, that's not mine that the whole anyway.
- 16:48Like, because remember. Remember Miss Janice?
- 16:50I think you were there when I finally said the words.
- 16:53I was raped at 13. That was the first time I've
- 16:55ever said those words and I was bawling y'all.
- 16:58I couldn't even talk. I just knew that this group of
- 17:01ladies was just going to judge me.
- 17:03But they were only there to. To.
- 17:05Urture me and take care of me and love on me and and show me.
- 17:09That's not who I am. So I had to.
- 17:14I had downloaded this app. It's called I Am.
- 17:18And it goes off multiple times a day.
- 17:21I got my children downloading and my man, so but it goes off
- 17:26and it gives you pick what kind of stuff you want inspiration
- 17:30for. You go on there, you you click
- 17:34how many times you wanted to remind you.
- 17:36And when it go off and I'm not around, it has a special
- 17:39ringtone When it goes off, I say my own affirmation of who I am.
- 17:45So it starts with I am powerful. I am worried.
- 17:48Y'all, I ain't feeling that way. I'm a repeated anyway until I
- 17:52believe it. I am a champion.
- 17:54You look at yourself and you believe it.
- 17:57Even when you got to get naked in the mirror, baby start to
- 18:00love yourself. My hair, my hair is Gray with
- 18:04black highlights. It's black with Gray highlights.
- 18:11Y'all like I had to learn. I had to sit in there for.
- 18:17And y'all know I'm blonde, I'm red or purple, anything for that
- 18:21birthday. But I sat in and I and I loved
- 18:24every minute of it. I had to learn to love me.
- 18:28I don't wear makeup. I wear, I wear a lipstick, I
- 18:31wear a mascara. But I had a season last year
- 18:36with my face broke out like crazy, and then I had to stop
- 18:43putting makeup on because the makeup was making it.
- 18:46Make up. Make it worse.
- 18:48Services that I don't really wear make it when I learn to
- 18:51love these flaws. Because when you look on TV, you
- 18:53see everybody out. Perfect, right.
- 18:56Exactly. That's not who they are, baby.
- 18:58Love the skin you're in? Exactly.
- 18:59Yeah. Exactly.
- 19:03Yes, love them flaws. Love that fat in that in that
- 19:07mirror. Them that sell your life.
- 19:10Love it, that's that's who you are, baby.
- 19:12Look, wear your little shorts and stuff in the house.
- 19:15Even if you in your back room. Whatever, whatever you can do.
- 19:18You know? Wear your stuff, honey.
- 19:20Who are you? What do you love to do?
- 19:24It Don't matter by nobody else. It just looking at yourself and
- 19:28being real with yourself, knowing oh and learning
- 19:32boundaries, Oh my God. That's one thing I had to learn
- 19:35about me, a book. And I learned some boundaries
- 19:38because that's what I lacked. That's what I like, because I
- 19:41was a people pleaser. I'm trying to help this person,
- 19:43help this person, help this person.
- 19:45And that's why I end up having a mental breakdown because I'm, I
- 19:48don't know, I'm taking care of everybody else.
- 19:50Help this one, everybody else taking care of.
- 19:57But me I'm on the background but my God got me he got me in
- 20:01perfect position Let me tell you how he got me he got me after my
- 20:05son his he just had his first year in college and my daughter
- 20:08went to go stay do her last year with her dad in San Antonio.
- 20:12So I just had baby boy and I don't have the twins no more.
- 20:16You know them them teenagers, they be be a lot So I ain't got
- 20:21to deal with them no more Now can focus on.
- 20:25I ain't. Got enough to do with focus.
- 20:27God making me focus on this, He has a way of.
- 20:32Display my smile, my heart, my pictures, My love is authentic.
- 20:37Like if I don't want to do it, I'm going to express that to you
- 20:41in the nicest place. But I am who I am.
- 20:45I love who I am. I just need you to look in that
- 20:47mirror my sister, and figure out who you are.
- 20:55Wow, my goodness, that is an awesome story.
- 21:00I am sure that this would inspire so many women and I'm
- 21:07hoping that this will cause women to say, you know what, I'm
- 21:12going to tell my story. I'm not going to just sit that
- 21:15on my on my story when tender. When you told your when you told
- 21:19your mom, your mom was shot, wasn't she?
- 21:25My Mama was in shock. My Mama now, mind you, my Mama,
- 21:30I never saw my Mama cry. That's why I have a problem with
- 21:32crying. So I thought my Mama was the
- 21:34strongest black woman ever. But the woman told me she was a
- 21:36crybaby y'all and I'm like, how long.
- 21:39So I live my life thinking this woman don't cry.
- 21:42And crying is a weakness because my dad always I may never cry.
- 21:47But anyway, so yeah, she. Couldn't believe it.
- 21:52She couldn't believe it and she cried.
- 21:54And she was just on that phone because I couldn't do it at
- 21:56first. Y'all.
- 21:57And I ain't tell my dad. It's how I went all the way to
- 21:58Germany. He was so mad at me.
- 22:00I went to go visit my friend in Germany and then that's when I
- 22:02got my courage to tell him. And I told him don't don't call
- 22:07nobody. And of course he got on that
- 22:08phone 30 years later. I'm so warm.
- 22:11Did you know? Wow, wow.
- 22:17But I. Am writing a book?
- 22:19Yes, that's what I'm going to tell you next.
- 22:22A girl. You know, A survivor's memoir.
- 22:27I named this A girl. You know, because it can be
- 22:31anybody. It can be it.
- 22:33This can happen to anybody. Everybody has a story.
- 22:38Everybody has a story. Baby, don't be afraid to Because
- 22:44I was afraid to tell people I was raped by my cousin.
- 22:47I was ashamed. Y'all.
- 22:49I thought I had scarlet letter like some written on my
- 22:52forehead. I was ashamed.
- 22:54But just to know the the thousands of women and I already
- 22:58helped by letting them know, baby, it's okay.
- 23:01It's okay to leave that you are worthy of respect.
- 23:04You know, speaking, speaking, baby, speak.
- 23:08It's power in your tongue. It's power.
- 23:11God gave us a tool right here. And you know I'm sitting here
- 23:17thinking about as mother with young daughters that we need to
- 23:24pay attention to if we if if their reaction or or they send
- 23:31to their self or they quiet or they seem like they're bothered
- 23:34by something be be open. How do you handle your daughter
- 23:42growing up knowing what you had went through?
- 23:45Did you make her feel comfortable coming to you
- 23:48talking to you about anything? It's always a person.
- 23:49If somebody tells you if somebody do this, it's okay.
- 23:52Don't let them tell you that you the reason you the cause of this
- 23:58happening, because you know that's what they would do and
- 24:01it's always usually somebody that you usually trust a person
- 24:05that. You would trust your kids
- 24:08because you ain't going to leave them with a stranger then,
- 24:10right? But it was easy for me when I
- 24:15had my kids. The reason why I got the
- 24:18military is because they were trying to deploy me and my
- 24:21husband at the same time. So Iraq or whatever was going on
- 24:26and it's like, hold on, I'm gonna have to leave my kids.
- 24:28And my my son was 4 at the time and he's about to start pre-K
- 24:32for the first time. So you know, it's exciting, like
- 24:35we're pre-K like I don't know how the hell why I'm gonna do
- 24:38anything overseas. And I couldn't protect my baby
- 24:42and that was big on me because. I didn't have that protection,
- 24:45you know, My Mama was working. My Mama was a black woman, hard
- 24:48working, trying to make the house, you know, make ends meet.
- 24:51You know what I'm saying? So we didn't have that type of
- 24:55relationship and I wanted to change that.
- 24:57And yes, ma'am, please believe we knew what good touch was and
- 25:00bad touch. Oh, and this, it wasn't only for
- 25:02my daughters from my son. So you know he's Jesus.
- 25:05And for my. Daughter being, she was like
- 25:08probably five years, five or six years old.
- 25:11Y'all. The girl came home, she said,
- 25:13Mama, I need to talk to you. I said OK, what's going on?
- 25:17She said I had a bad touch at school today.
- 25:19Y'all know Mama line was. So I said, let me see what she
- 25:26told me and if y'all know my daughter, she's something else
- 25:31and this little boy would sit behind me and I ain't want to
- 25:33talk to him and I ain't want to pass him the paper.
- 25:36So he pulled my help and I told the teacher that he touched me
- 25:40in a bad spot. I said that was the bad touch,
- 25:44baby. Yeah, he pulled my house Okay.
- 25:51Well, thank you for telling me. But you know, we had the over
- 25:55the years we had to keep on and y'all my friends, my friends
- 25:59just loved me because when it was time to have the, I'm on
- 26:04YouTube looking up PowerPoint because I don't want to use
- 26:08this. You want, you want, you want to
- 26:13have all the knowledge. I want it because, baby, that's
- 26:16what we suffer from. Ignorance.
- 26:18Lack of knowledge. Baby, I'm not.
- 26:20Dial it out the box, baby. They comfortable talking to me
- 26:23about things other kids wouldn't dare talk to their parents
- 26:27about, but pull up. Hey, I need to know what's going
- 26:30on. I'll be able to help you help
- 26:33yourself. So yes, I was very adamant on
- 26:37that. Like where you're okay to touch
- 26:39people. I don't care who it is.
- 26:41I don't care if it's Mama, daddy, uncle, I don't care if
- 26:43they say this. I don't care if you threaten
- 26:45them like I tried to let them know that this is a safe place
- 26:51so and to give them and like for me because I'm I'm y'all, I'm
- 26:56dramatic. I'm over the top.
- 26:59So when them kids bring their little stuff to you handle it
- 27:02nicely. Handle it well because they not
- 27:05going to be able to bring the big stuff because you can't even
- 27:08handle the little stuff, so that's powerful.
- 27:12Yes. So some little stuff you got to
- 27:14talk them through and, you know, kind of teach them, but just let
- 27:18it go, right? So you build that relationship
- 27:22with your child. Wow.
- 27:25Wow. And to hear you say that you are
- 27:29free. Now, I know you came out and you
- 27:32told your story and well, you wasn't suffering in silence, but
- 27:38I know that was a work in progress.
- 27:42When did you actually feel yourself free?
- 27:46Did you have to get into counseling or what?
- 27:49Yes, I had to get into counseling.
- 27:52I had to get my relationship back right with God.
- 27:56I had to. I had to learn to pray for me.
- 28:01And you know what I'm saying? Because I'm the one, y'all.
- 28:03I'm praying for everybody. I had to learn to pray for men
- 28:07and uplift myself and put positive back into me.
- 28:11I have to take it back to elementary.
- 28:12You know what I'm saying? I had to put that positive back
- 28:16people on Facebook. I had to delete them.
- 28:18Baby, I have to give me some positive stuff coming here, you
- 28:20know, family members, I can't deal with you right now.
- 28:23Friends, I need nothing but. And that's what I stayed around.
- 28:28God had me isolated. Now mind you, I'm a Road runner
- 28:31and I always ripping and running.
- 28:33I'm at somebody house. I'm doing this doing it.
- 28:35Maybe I stay in this house for six months from from December
- 28:39when I had my I had my breakdown in November, but from December
- 28:43to June I was in counseling In June, she told me, she say, see
- 28:48Anna, you're done. And I felt kind of scared.
- 28:49I was like, what? You mean we're done?
- 28:51Like, come on, we we've been doing this for six months.
- 28:54Like we've been seeing each other for six months, every
- 28:56Wednesday at 10:00. O'clock like everybody know
- 28:59about our relationship, but what you mean?
- 29:02What? What?
- 29:03What do you mean you're going to leave me?
- 29:04You're not going to help me with this walk no more.
- 29:06She was like, you got it, you got it.
- 29:10And she calls me every two weeks to make sure she matter of fact,
- 29:14we just had a phone call this last Wednesday.
- 29:16She say okay, you think you can handle a couple months and I'm
- 29:19like, okay, okay, I say. When I say in my mind you have
- 29:26to know yourself, you have to know how the devil plays on you,
- 29:29what he can play on you and you. You gird yourself up like you,
- 29:33you, you, you be ready for and you know who he is and you cast
- 29:39them down as soon as he try to come in.
- 29:41Say not really. Get deep behind me.
- 29:44Press on. Yeah.
- 29:48And and and and. And that freedom feels so good
- 29:51then. I watched too.
- 29:53I bring in my house because different energies that.
- 29:56But when I say it feels good, it feels awesome to wake up every
- 30:01morning and so know that God loves you.
- 30:04And he, He favored me once again to wake me up.
- 30:07He chose me. I mean, I ain't done yet.
- 30:13Ain't done you, child. I love it.
- 30:16I love it. I love it.
- 30:17Wow. What a powerful, powerful story
- 30:21to tell them how that they can reach out to you.
- 30:28Tell them the name of your book again.
- 30:30How they can get a copy of your book and also if somebody just
- 30:34want talk to you, you might be the first person they may want
- 30:38to tell they want to you know they might might been going
- 30:41through this for years and say you know what, maybe I just need
- 30:45to talk to her. You know what?
- 30:48That made me think about my first public speaking.
- 30:51I was scared, scared, scared. And this 86 year old woman came
- 30:56up to me afterwards. She said, baby, you know what
- 30:59she said? You just taught me something.
- 31:01I've been suffering in silence since I was a little girl.
- 31:05And now you gave me the strength to be able to get past it
- 31:10because it always eat at me. And this woman was 86, so that
- 31:15made me think, oh, I'm out here doing something right, baby, I'm
- 31:18helping out. I'm helping out, grandma, baby.
- 31:23So yeah, wow, that's I can't imagine that's a long time.
- 31:30I just thought about my little time and I was like, that's a
- 31:33lifetime. Oh Jesus, that's a lifetime.
- 31:35And people that's. Why I want to help us?
- 31:37Because that ain't a subject nobody want to talk about, not
- 31:40even not even to the to the babies to let them know what it
- 31:44was. Because if I would would have
- 31:45known what was going on, I could have put a stop to him, like,
- 31:48hey, this is not where I want to be.
- 31:50But it wasn't that. And that's why I just want to
- 31:54help people learn what domestic violence really is and let them
- 31:58know. Baby, you don't have to take
- 31:59that. Periods you don't have to take
- 32:03it. You are worthy of more.
- 32:05You are worthy of respect and of love.
