- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. Hello, Big
- 0:11Speaker 1: Blue Nation. Welcome to Just the Cats. My name is
- 0:14Speaker 1: Michael Bennett on this Friday, September 11th, 2026. I hope
- 0:19Speaker 1: everybody's doing okay on a little bit of a cloudy,
- 0:22Speaker 1: a little bit of rain. Hopefully it clears out a
- 0:24Speaker 1: little later and get you ready for a weekend. That's
- 0:28Speaker 1: going to be one that we are not going to forget.
- 0:30Speaker 1: But Justin Kalen's with me this morning. Justy, how you doing?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I am good. Please don't call me Justy. That sounds terrible.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I honestly, I thought about it since we were talking
- 0:44Speaker 1: about it yesterday. Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Did you say a weekend you're never going to forget?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, absolutely. It is a weekend we are never
- 0:53Speaker 2: going to forget. I will bet you money you forget
- 0:56Speaker 2: by next week.
- 0:58Speaker 1: By Sunday? that's how much confidence you have in uk
- 1:04Speaker 1: football oh i'm not feeling good this is this is
- 1:07Speaker 1: not gonna be a good show this is a big
- 1:09Speaker 1: weekend and uk's gonna do.
- 1:12Speaker 2: It no no yeah i'm not seeing it i know
- 1:15Speaker 2: matter of fact you know what i said on my
- 1:17Speaker 2: show what did you say i said i think it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: gonna be a will stein's welcome to the sec.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Moment oh come on All right, well, we're going to
- 1:25Speaker 1: talk about that a little later. You know, I am excited.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I don't know Steven Peek that well. And to say
- 1:33Speaker 1: that we're friends, no, probably not. But I like him.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I hope that after today he'll consider me a friend.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm definitely going to consider him a friend. But I'm
- 1:43Speaker 1: excited about him coming in. Yeah, you should be. He's fun.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He texted me yesterday, Michael, what time you want me in?
- 1:49Speaker 1: How long you want me there? I said, well, I
- 1:51Speaker 1: was kind of hoping you'd get there at 8 and
- 1:53Speaker 1: be hung for the entire show. He said, it's okay
- 1:56Speaker 1: if I get there at 8.30. I'm like, yeah, definitely.
- 1:59Speaker 1: So is he married? Does he have kids? He is married.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Does he have kids? No, they do not have kids,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and I don't think they ever will. What?
- 2:07Speaker 2: I think it's one of those things where they just
- 2:09Speaker 2: enjoy each other's company and never really have had the
- 2:13Speaker 2: desire to have kids.
- 2:14Speaker 1: No, I need a distraction from Patricia, and I know
- 2:16Speaker 1: she needs a distraction from me, and that's what kids do. Listen,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I was scared to death to have kids. I've told
- 2:24Speaker 1: you that before, right? Oh, yeah. You should be scared
- 2:26Speaker 1: to death to have kids.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 1: That's a lot of responsibility. Well, exactly. And I don't
- 2:30Speaker 1: want that responsibility because I knew I was a kid.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But that was the greatest thing in my life was
- 2:35Speaker 1: having two boys. I wouldn't change a thing other than
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'd love to have a girl. But anyway, I'd be broke.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Because I couldn't say no to a girl. Oh, thanks.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Steven Peake just texted me and said he's changing my
- 2:47Speaker 1: name and his phone to Justy. Ah, there we go.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I like this. Yes. Thank you, Steven. Justy Kalen. I
- 2:54Speaker 1: love it. J-U-S-T-Y, by the way, Steven. That's how he
- 2:57Speaker 1: spelled it. Yeah. Okay, perfect. I love this. Yes, it's
- 3:01Speaker 1: a trend. I'm out. Oh, come on. Have a little fun, okay?
- 3:06Speaker 1: We all love you. We just want to have a
- 3:08Speaker 1: little fun with you. But... No, I am excited about, okay, Stephen,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you're listening to me right now. I'm excited that you're
- 3:15Speaker 1: coming in here. Because, listen, I love your work. And
- 3:20Speaker 1: I've watched a few more things that he has done.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And so I'm just curious about him and get to
- 3:25Speaker 1: know him and him get to know me. Not that
- 3:27Speaker 1: he really wants to get to know me, but I
- 3:29Speaker 1: want to get to know him. So especially since we're
- 3:32Speaker 1: on the same radio station and we support the same
- 3:34Speaker 1: school and all that kind of stuff. So there you go.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It'll be fun. Okay? Yeah. I have no doubt. All right.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Let's get the depressing part out of the way because
- 3:44Speaker 1: I think it should be honored. Today's 25th anniversary, something
- 3:49Speaker 1: nobody wants to celebrate, but we do remember it. How's that?
- 3:54Speaker 1: That's the one thing. You know, you always see the stickers.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I don't see them as much as I used to.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Never forget. And I think that the United States has
- 4:02Speaker 1: done a really nice job of not forgetting.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Uh, my son texted me last night, you know, my
- 4:08Speaker 1: youngest who lives in New York city, he's only literally
- 4:12Speaker 1: seven blocks away from ground zero. That always makes me nervous,
- 4:18Speaker 1: makes my wife even more nervous. Uh, but like that
- 4:21Speaker 1: something else could happen. Exactly. Yes. Well, I think so.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I mean, isn't security just so much better than, than
- 4:27Speaker 1: it was 25 years ago in New York? Yes, absolutely.
- 4:30Speaker 1: In the, uh, the, the business he works at, which
- 4:33Speaker 1: is city. and they have security like you've never seen before.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I mean, it's crazy. I think one of the funniest things,
- 4:41Speaker 1: they get lots of protests. I don't know why they
- 4:44Speaker 1: pick on this bank, but they get lots of protests.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And one time it had something to do with hot dogs.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And this lady had a hot dog costume on. And
- 4:57Speaker 1: she was trying, Mason said it was happening right in
- 5:00Speaker 1: front of him as the lady in the hot dog
- 5:02Speaker 1: costume was trying to run into the corporate offices of Citibank.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And he said he had never laughed so hard in
- 5:09Speaker 1: his life. Why would you be wearing a hot dog
- 5:14Speaker 1: costume in protest? Why not? Well, okay, that's a great point.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Why not? Answer me why not. Well, my other question
- 5:23Speaker 1: would be, well, why doesn't she have a hot dog
- 5:24Speaker 1: in her hand and she's eating it? That would be
- 5:27Speaker 1: hot dog overload. It would be?
- 5:29Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:29Speaker 1: All right, then. Well, he said that because he flew
- 5:33Speaker 1: in last night and he said while he was at
- 5:36Speaker 1: the airport, he could see the drones. display. Did you
- 5:40Speaker 1: hear about that? That was cool, yeah. Yeah, so they
- 5:42Speaker 1: had two, if you haven't seen it yet, they had,
- 5:45Speaker 1: what was it, 2,977, which represented each life lost on
- 5:47Speaker 1: September 11th. Which I thought, wow, that's huge significance right there.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I don't know how they get that many drones to
- 5:59Speaker 1: coordinate with one another. Well, you know, exactly.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I mean, I know it's all like a computer program.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yeah. But still, it's mind-blowing. Well, and what they did
- 6:11Speaker 1: with them was mind-blowing. I mean, you know, I tweeted
- 6:14Speaker 1: it out and I said it's beautiful, but on the
- 6:16Speaker 1: other hand, it's heartbreaking. And it is, I mean, you,
- 6:20Speaker 1: they tried to line it or they did not try.
- 6:22Speaker 1: They did. They accomplished it. Line every drone up to
- 6:27Speaker 1: make it look like the tower, the twin towers were
- 6:29Speaker 1: still there. It was the coolest thing I've seen. It
- 6:32Speaker 1: was cool. The drone stuff is getting more and more popular,
- 6:35Speaker 1: isn't it? It is.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's the way we've been moving
- 6:39Speaker 2: for what? Probably 15, 20 years now though, right? Drone's
- 6:43Speaker 2: been around that long.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, we've, Really?
- 6:47Speaker 2: We've probably had him at the last 10 Thunder over Louisville.
- 6:50Speaker 1: If I had to guess, I didn't realize it had
- 6:53Speaker 1: been that long. Okay. So like, for instance, you know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I told you earlier this week, I went to the
- 6:58Speaker 1: Vanderbilt game after the UK game ran to Nashville and
- 7:02Speaker 1: they had a drone display at halftime at Vanderbilt. It
- 7:05Speaker 1: was really cool. And so I, I like they had
- 7:10Speaker 1: at one point they had a image of Dolly Parton
- 7:13Speaker 1: and They had an image of the Commodore, their mascot.
- 7:16Speaker 1: They had an image of what's his name? The head
- 7:22Speaker 1: coach Lee. Clark Lee. Clark Lee. Thank you. And I
- 7:25Speaker 1: was like, okay, this is freaking cool. By the way,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I was wrong. 2021 was the first year for drones.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I was going to say it hadn't been that long.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It's been five years. Yeah. And what they're doing with
- 7:36Speaker 1: him today is just amazing. And what they did last night,
- 7:39Speaker 1: the last couple of nights, I think they're going to
- 7:40Speaker 1: do it one more time tonight in New York City
- 7:43Speaker 1: with the drones. I think it's bigger this year. We
- 7:50Speaker 1: celebrate big numbers. 10, 20, and now 25. And it's
- 7:55Speaker 1: hard to believe it's been 25 years. That is crazy.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Because I can tell you, as soon as I woke
- 8:00Speaker 1: up today, I had a pit in my stomach. You
- 8:03Speaker 1: know what I mean? You know, that was the same
- 8:05Speaker 1: year my mom passed away. So it was 2001 was
- 8:08Speaker 1: just a horrible year. I can tell you exactly where
- 8:11Speaker 1: I was going when I first heard it. I was
- 8:13Speaker 1: taking my boys to Chance School over there off of
- 8:18Speaker 1: Lime Kiln and River Road because they were in preschool.
- 8:22Speaker 1: And I was listening to Bob and Tom. How do
- 8:27Speaker 1: you like that? Whoa, it's there again.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Well, they said they probably made a joke of it all.
- 8:33Speaker 1: No, not at all. No, not at all. They were
- 8:36Speaker 1: taking it seriously. They said it looks like a small
- 8:39Speaker 1: Cessna plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I'll
- 8:43Speaker 1: never forget that. And the fact that it wasn't a
- 8:47Speaker 1: Cessna little plane. It's not a small plane. It was
- 8:50Speaker 1: a commercial airliner, which is just amazing. But yeah, and
- 8:55Speaker 1: I remember going back to the house. And I was,
- 8:59Speaker 1: at the time, I loved this guy that had a
- 9:05Speaker 1: talk show that was about the cheesiest talk show in
- 9:08Speaker 1: the world. It was Regis Philbin. Do you remember him? Oh, yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I loved him. Who wants to be a millionaire? How
- 9:15Speaker 1: could you forget Regis? Yes, exactly. Exactly. Well, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: he had this morning show, Regis and Kathy Lee, who
- 9:24Speaker 1: was married to Frank Gifford. Kathy Lee Gifford? I don't
- 9:27Speaker 1: know if you remember her. She brought down the show
- 9:30Speaker 1: Regis was the only reason I watched that show And
- 9:33Speaker 1: I loved him It was the opposite in his later
- 9:36Speaker 1: years Oh, really? Yeah, he kind of brought down the show.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I disagree. No, he started losing his mind a little bit. Oh, no,
- 9:44Speaker 1: don't make fun of him for that. I'm not making
- 9:45Speaker 1: fun of him. I'm stating facts here. Oh, you did? Okay, well,
- 9:50Speaker 1: his only fault is he went to Notre Dame. That's
- 9:52Speaker 1: the only fault he had, but I thought he was hilarious.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Anytime he went on David Letterman, to me, that was
- 9:58Speaker 1: must-watch TV because their little banter was always fun. And
- 10:02Speaker 1: I watched them talk about what was happening in New York.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And then, of course, after that, I turned on national news.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Did you know, fun fact... That he holds, Regis Philbin
- 10:12Speaker 1: that is, holds the Guinness World Record for the most
- 10:14Speaker 1: hours spent on U.S. television. Really? Isn't that crazy? How
- 10:18Speaker 1: many hours is it? Let's see if I can find that. Okay,
- 10:21Speaker 1: but you didn't look that up. You already knew that. No,
- 10:24Speaker 1: it popped up when I Googled his name. Really? Yeah. Interesting. Okay,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I had no idea about that. Here we are sending
- 10:32Speaker 1: fun facts about Regis Philbin. I didn't sign up for
- 10:35Speaker 1: that today, but here we are. So more people learn more.
- 10:40Speaker 1: useless stuff on this show than there is anything else. 16,746
- 10:44Speaker 1: and a half hours. Yeah. All right. Divide that, divide
- 10:45Speaker 1: that by 24. Okay, go ahead and divide it by,
- 10:55Speaker 1: can you do that? Yeah, hold tight. All right, divide
- 10:57Speaker 1: it by 24 and tell me how many days that is.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Divide it by 24, that is 697.8 days. That's over, what,
- 11:07Speaker 1: two years? Over two years of his life was spent
- 11:10Speaker 1: on TV. Wow, that is amazing right there. Two years
- 11:15Speaker 1: of his life he was on television. That's why he's beloved,
- 11:19Speaker 1: because you were forced to see him and you were
- 11:21Speaker 1: forced to love him. So anyway, that's amazing. All right.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Do you remember where you were on 9-11? Absolutely. Where
- 11:28Speaker 1: were you? I was sitting in sixth grade math class. Oh, interesting.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So middle school, obviously, it was awesome. I don't want
- 11:39Speaker 2: to say awesome. Yeah, I was going to say what?
- 11:42Speaker 2: That feels like the wrong word to use. But to
- 11:44Speaker 2: an 11-year-old, when all that went down and the teacher
- 11:48Speaker 2: flipped on the TV, and then for every other class
- 11:51Speaker 2: I went to the rest of the day, all we
- 11:53Speaker 2: did was watch TV.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, granted, it was on sad content, but
- 11:58Speaker 1: we didn't have to do anything. We watched TV all day.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It was great. That's all you cared about. You didn't
- 12:04Speaker 1: care about what was happening in New York City. Hey,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I got to watch TV all day.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Honestly, as an 11-year-old, I didn't really comprehend what was happening.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I didn't really have an understanding of what and why
- 12:16Speaker 2: and how and all that.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Well, I don't think anybody comprehended. True. Let's just be honest.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It had nothing to do with age. I couldn't comprehend it.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I didn't understand what was going on, nor did I
- 12:27Speaker 1: understand why. And I didn't realize there was a significance
- 12:31Speaker 1: in the Quran to 9-11. And I'm like, oh, my goodness.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Now I learned all kinds of stuff. Because the things that,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you know, I remember watching where I was when it happened.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Then the second one happening. And then the other– I
- 12:48Speaker 1: remember this. UK was supposed to play IU that weekend
- 12:52Speaker 1: in football. Oh, really? Yes. And they canceled the game
- 12:56Speaker 1: until later on in the season. Hmm. And then the
- 12:59Speaker 1: other thing that was really crazy was you look up
- 13:03Speaker 1: in the sky for the next few days, there was
- 13:07Speaker 1: not a single airplane in the sky. Have you seen
- 13:10Speaker 1: the graphic of all the planes in the sky and
- 13:12Speaker 1: then they grounded them all and just like it's dissipating? Yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 1: That's freaky. That is freaky. In my lifetime, I know
- 13:20Speaker 1: the same for you, I've never not seen an airplane
- 13:23Speaker 1: in the sky. Yeah. That was weird. And then the
- 13:26Speaker 1: other part, I don't remember their names, but there was
- 13:30Speaker 1: a documentary that came out. Started watching it again last night.
- 13:33Speaker 1: By the two Frenchmen that just happened to be doing
- 13:37Speaker 1: a documentary on 9-11, not on 9-11, but on a
- 13:42Speaker 1: fire and rescue company up in New York City, just
- 13:46Speaker 1: blocks away from the World Trade Center. Did you see that?
- 13:51Speaker 1: I did not. Oh, you've got to go. It's called 9-11.
- 13:55Speaker 1: That's all it's called.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I will turn you on to Turning Point. turning point
- 14:00Speaker 2: i know you've got a busy day today but if
- 14:01Speaker 2: you get some time late tonight and you need a
- 14:03Speaker 2: good 9-11 documentary yeah go to netflix look up turning
- 14:07Speaker 2: point generation 9-11 it's.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Really so well okay all right well i have a
- 14:12Speaker 1: friend that just well i shouldn't say that i don't
- 14:14Speaker 1: know if he's a friend yet or not but uh
- 14:16Speaker 1: so somebody just joined in the studio you might need
- 14:18Speaker 1: to turn on there.
- 14:19Speaker 2: You go go to that one pete this one there
- 14:22Speaker 2: we go there we go he's here on blue okay
- 14:24Speaker 2: he's here Oh, yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 1: On blue. Red 7. Red 7.
- 14:29Speaker 2: No, Peek knows the mic color. I don't know what
- 14:31Speaker 2: Red 7 means. It's bad for you.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Do y'all get my reference, by the way? Red 7? Yes. Yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 1: the dye?
- 14:40Speaker 4: No.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I thought that was the guy they put in shoes.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think Steven got it. I know. I knew it
- 14:46Speaker 1: wasn't that. Oh, my gosh. Y'all don't get Red 7.
- 14:49Speaker 1: That's where Vince Vaughn is yelling at Owen.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Oh.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Okay. In Wedding Crashers. Red 7. Anyway. Okay. Sorry about that.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I'm famous for that. Calling movie references that nobody really gets.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I can confirm that. Good morning, Steven Peake. Good morning.
- 15:09Speaker 1: How are you doing? Doing good. You know, I wanted
- 15:12Speaker 1: to get here at 8. I knew there was no way.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I knew there was zero chance. I don't know if
- 15:18Speaker 2: anyone told you I'm not a morning person. I've given
- 15:21Speaker 2: up careers to not wake up before 8 o'clock.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Oh, really? Fine. I won't be that then. You wouldn't
- 15:27Speaker 1: like my careers over my lifetime then. You all get up.
- 15:31Speaker 2: You were wide awake at Churchill Downs when I was
- 15:33Speaker 2: there with Nick Roush right before Derby. And I mean,
- 15:37Speaker 2: it's ripening the sleep out of my eyes. And you
- 15:39Speaker 2: and Roush, I know you guys live for.
- 15:40Speaker 1: This, but you're wide awake. You had two cups of
- 15:43Speaker 1: coffee already. Yeah. No, I can tell. Horse people are
- 15:47Speaker 1: morning people. Yes. But I've been this way. The weird
- 15:50Speaker 1: part is, even when I was at UK, I always
- 15:54Speaker 1: signed up for 8 o'clock classes. I don't know why
- 15:56Speaker 1: it is. I did the same. I was always an
- 15:59Speaker 1: early morning guy. Now, getting me out past 11 o'clock,
- 16:03Speaker 1: even as a teenager, it's like, dude, I want to
- 16:05Speaker 1: go home and go to bed.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just with me. If I was 30-something, 25
- 16:10Speaker 2: years ago, I would have slept through the whole thing.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Would you really? I would have woke up. Not really.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Jack Pilgrim that I work with, he is bullying me
- 16:19Speaker 2: for this media madness.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with him. Does he do anything in media? Yeah,
- 16:22Speaker 1: he does. He's our... Okay. All right. Sorry. You don't
- 16:27Speaker 1: know me well enough for that. I know Jack very well. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 2: So he's been bullying me, getting me up, making me
- 16:33Speaker 2: go to Southeast Christian.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And practice for the media madness stuff. That's next week, Peek.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I know.
- 16:39Speaker 2: My knee is not... cooperating with me. I'm taking a
- 16:43Speaker 2: couple days off, and we're going to see how we feel.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Do we have any idea how that's going to work yet?
- 16:47Speaker 1: There's going to be some scrimmages, some drills and stuff.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Now, are you getting to pick your own team, though?
- 16:52Speaker 2: I thought we were, but I don't think that's what
- 16:53Speaker 2: we're doing.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Is it going to be like a schoolyard pick-em?
- 16:56Speaker 2: Pope had us fill out a questionnaire, and it basically
- 17:00Speaker 2: defines your skill level, so I think he's going to
- 17:02Speaker 2: separate everybody by skill level.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I didn't get mine. Did I miss it? Check your email.
- 17:08Speaker 1: They sent it out in an email.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Huh.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Okay. Are you going to be there? I don't know.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Should I? Yeah, you should. I've gone back and forth
- 17:16Speaker 1: whether or not I should do this. I think it's
- 17:18Speaker 1: just going to be cool. I mean, I'm not expecting
- 17:20Speaker 1: to be the 15th player or anything like that. Oh,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I am. Are you kidding? Starting at sitting the bench,
- 17:29Speaker 1: number 88.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It'd be a dream come true, even in my 30s,
- 17:33Speaker 2: to just be that and sit the bench and wear
- 17:35Speaker 2: the uniform for a game.
- 17:36Speaker 1: That'd be so awesome. Hey, Peek, how can you be
- 17:38Speaker 1: the 15th player when it's going to be Trey Kaufman-Wren?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good question. We can't both do it.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Is he going to be allowed to play? Right, there's
- 17:47Speaker 2: no way. He's already signed contracts, I'm sure, right?
- 17:51Speaker 1: To my knowledge, he has not signed a contract. He
- 17:53Speaker 1: was drafted, but he never signed a contract. My question
- 17:56Speaker 1: to you is who cares? Who cares if he signed
- 17:59Speaker 1: a contract or not? He didn't play a game. He
- 18:01Speaker 1: should be allowed. Do you want him? We kind of
- 18:04Speaker 1: need that position. Why would you not want him? Exactly.
- 18:06Speaker 1: That kid's awesome. Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 2: The thing that if you go after him hard and
- 18:10Speaker 2: you don't get him, what message is that sending to
- 18:12Speaker 2: the guys who are going to now have to be
- 18:14Speaker 2: your starting four, either Usman Njai or Justin McBride?
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I think it hurts you a little mentally. Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I can't really– I'm going to put these down. Okay.
- 18:24Speaker 1: All right. Take your time. I can see you now. Oh, okay. Perfect. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:29Speaker 2: That's what I would– that's one thing that I've been
- 18:31Speaker 2: talking about is– it seems kind of desperate if you
- 18:35Speaker 2: go after, you know, Kohler and Mitchell. And now this guy.
- 18:41Speaker 2: And if you don't get any of them, I know
- 18:43Speaker 2: you got Mitchell.
- 18:44Speaker 1: It's good. You should swing. You should swing for the fences.
- 18:46Speaker 1: He did. He had a home run. And then they,
- 18:48Speaker 1: like George Brett, they took the home run away. Yeah.
- 18:51Speaker 2: And now you're still in the position where, like, if
- 18:53Speaker 2: you can't figure out this four spot, then you are,
- 18:58Speaker 2: your ceiling is a sweet 16, I think.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Well. We got to take a break. I mean, I've
- 19:03Speaker 1: gone John Wong long, so we have to take a break. 502-384-1450.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You want to call 502-414-1450. You want to text in
- 19:11Speaker 1: on the Whiskey Thief text line. Or you can tweet
- 19:13Speaker 1: me at Just the Cat Radio. Steven Peake is with
- 19:15Speaker 1: us today. This is not Morning Show with KRC, okay?
- 19:19Speaker 1: This is Just the Cat, so don't get confused. But
- 19:23Speaker 1: we got a lot to talk about because I want
- 19:24Speaker 1: to hear more about your story. I don't know you well.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You don't know me well. I love your work. I
- 19:31Speaker 1: admire your work. But I just want to talk about
- 19:33Speaker 1: that a little more because I have people really gotten
- 19:35Speaker 1: to know you from since you started at Kentucky Roll Call. Yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 1: I hope so. I hope they've gotten to know me
- 19:42Speaker 1: a little bit, but we're still learning things. Are we really? Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I'd like to know more about Michael Bennett.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I've heard so many things before I even started working here.
- 19:51Speaker 1: That's a deep subject, but it's very shallow. It revolves
- 19:54Speaker 1: around just the tip, right? Oh, there we go. Okay,
- 19:57Speaker 1: and probably the death of Michael Bennett on top. Listen,
- 20:01Speaker 1: I got a call last night from Shannon the Dude
- 20:03Speaker 1: telling me, hey, are you still alive? So anyway, he
- 20:08Speaker 1: was at Churchill Downs. He's like, you're out here, aren't you?
- 20:10Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'm on my way. You want to wait? Nah,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I'm good. And he left me. He's like, what the heck, man?
- 20:16Speaker 1: You wanted to see if I was there, but you
- 20:17Speaker 1: can't wait to see me. So let's take a break.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Stay right there. We got a lot more of Just
- 20:21Speaker 1: the Cats coming up with Steven Peake. 502-384-1450, you want
- 20:55Speaker 1: to call in? You know, it's one of those songs
- 21:05Speaker 1: I hate to interrupt. i know i got it really
- 21:22Speaker 1: is i mean if there was a list of people
- 21:25Speaker 1: i could see that have already passed as far as
- 21:28Speaker 1: musicians he would be one of the top ones i
- 21:31Speaker 1: would want to see between him prince well it's jimmy
- 21:37Speaker 1: buffett again of course but uh Is there anybody you
- 21:40Speaker 1: would want to see, Justin? Oh, Queen for sure. Oh,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Freddie Mercury. That's a great one. Or Michael Jackson. Either
- 21:46Speaker 1: one of them.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Really?
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't know. Although, I don't know how good Michael
- 21:50Speaker 1: probably was in concerts. I always heard he was, well,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I only saw the recordings of it, but I never
- 21:55Speaker 1: saw him in concert. I know the closest he came
- 21:58Speaker 1: years ago was Knoxville, Tennessee to Nayland Stadium. It's like,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I don't want to go to a stadium. This was
- 22:02Speaker 1: when it was new for musicians to go to venues
- 22:06Speaker 1: like that. And I just, I don't want to go
- 22:09Speaker 1: down there and see that. Is there anybody, Steven Peake,
- 22:11Speaker 1: that has passed that you would like to see? Jimmy Buffett. Oh,
- 22:16Speaker 1: there you go. Wow, you're after Michael Bennett's heart now. Exactly.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Did we just become best friends? That's what I want
- 22:22Speaker 1: to know. I grew up listening to Buffett.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Really?
- 22:25Speaker 1: Yeah, so I just saw Roger Daltrey a couple days
- 22:27Speaker 1: ago in Nashville. Oh, by himself? He was by himself, yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Hold on. I guarantee you. But Justy over there does
- 22:35Speaker 1: not know who Roger Daltrey is. I do know who
- 22:37Speaker 1: he is. Oh, you do?
- 22:38Speaker 2: Because I listen to KRC, and I heard people hyping
- 22:42Speaker 2: it up for two days.
- 22:42Speaker 1: That's the only reason you knew who he was. All right,
- 22:45Speaker 1: so how was he? Unbelievable.
- 22:47Speaker 2: My dad is a big Who fan. It's my dad's birthday,
- 22:50Speaker 2: September 9th, so we went down there. My sister and
- 22:52Speaker 2: I went with him, and my uncle, who's just as
- 22:54Speaker 2: big a fan. So that was really cool because I've
- 22:56Speaker 2: been hearing Roger Daltrey's voice my entire life, so being
- 23:00Speaker 2: able to actually see him.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Michael, he's 82, and his voice is unbelievable. Really?
- 23:06Speaker 2: I was blown away. I was like, that guy's not 82.
- 23:08Speaker 2: The way he was moving around the stage, I'm going
- 23:10Speaker 2: to tell you, I felt– this ambivalence of feeling like old, like,
- 23:15Speaker 2: cause I'm like, how is he moving around like this?
- 23:18Speaker 2: And my knees are hurting me from playing basketball.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And also young. I'm like, I'm 36. He's 82. That's crazy.
- 23:25Speaker 2: He's just, he seems so like full of life and,
- 23:29Speaker 2: and like, he was moving around the stage, moving, like
- 23:32Speaker 2: swinging the microphone around.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I love that. That's iconic. And his voice was, was unbelievable.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So between him and, And then, you know, Justin and
- 23:40Speaker 1: I have talked about Mick Jagger. Yeah. And somebody put on,
- 23:44Speaker 1: we talked about this about a year or so ago
- 23:46Speaker 1: because I saw him in New York and the Rolling Stones.
- 23:49Speaker 1: And they put a Fitbit on him to see how
- 23:51Speaker 1: many miles he goes in one concert. And he goes
- 23:54Speaker 1: over 11 miles. You're kidding.
- 23:56Speaker 3: No.
- 23:57Speaker 1: And he's 81? 81? Gosh, that's crazy. Isn't that crazy?
- 24:01Speaker 2: How do these guys do this? I saw Bruce Springsteen
- 24:03Speaker 2: a few years ago. Now, he was only like 70-something.
- 24:06Speaker 2: That's his favorite. Oh, no, I'm sorry. It was a
- 24:10Speaker 2: great concert. And I, again, was just like, how are
- 24:13Speaker 2: these dudes doing this?
- 24:14Speaker 1: I agree. Because, you know, back when I was young,
- 24:17Speaker 1: 80 was like ancient. Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Well, my grandfather, he's 89, and I don't think he
- 24:26Speaker 2: was in any shape to do concerts six years ago.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Oh, that's great. But anyway, all right. What were we
- 24:34Speaker 1: talking about before we left? I don't know. 9-11. I
- 24:36Speaker 1: don't know, but, Pink, if you could leave the big
- 24:38Speaker 1: words out, that'd be great. Oh, there we go. Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Holy smoke. No more syllables than three, okay, on this show, okay?
- 24:45Speaker 1: We're simple-minded. We're not that smart. He went to IU,
- 24:49Speaker 1: and I flunked out at UK. So there you go.
- 24:53Speaker 1: We were talking, I think, about Justin McBride, four spot.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Are we going to get this? Yeah. Oh, that's right.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's right. Because I got to find this email. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: don't know. Oh, right. That's what I was on my
- 25:03Speaker 1: phone for. Yeah, that's exactly. All right. I think the
- 25:07Speaker 1: thing that went completely viral yesterday was Will Stein joined
- 25:13Speaker 1: for a couple of minutes and on with Matt Jones
- 25:17Speaker 1: on Kentucky Sports Radio talking about People bringing in flasks.
- 25:23Speaker 1: He does not want people to leave their seats to
- 25:26Speaker 1: even simply go get a drink of alcohol. He wants
- 25:29Speaker 1: them to just sneak in the flat. And of course,
- 25:31Speaker 1: New York Post picked it up. Yahoo National picked it up.
- 25:34Speaker 1: All kinds of people are like, oh, my gosh, he
- 25:37Speaker 1: wants people to yell obscenities to Alabama. And it's like
- 25:41Speaker 1: he was just it was in jest. He knows what
- 25:44Speaker 1: he's doing, I think. How big of an ass-chewing did
- 25:47Speaker 1: he take is what I want. None! He got a
- 25:49Speaker 1: talking to, for sure. You think so? From Jay Back?
- 25:51Speaker 1: Did you see his most recent tweet? No, I have not.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Okay, so he put a tweet out last night. Hold on,
- 25:56Speaker 2: Will Stein put a tweet.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Will Stein did.
- 25:58Speaker 2: And it was very clear to me that our boy
- 26:01Speaker 2: got a talking to.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Oh, you think Jay Back got to? It was a joke.
- 26:05Speaker 1: It was, it was. He said, this is his tweet.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm going to read it. Absolutely. No, I want you
- 26:10Speaker 1: to keep it to yourself.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I don't want people to I want people
- 26:13Speaker 2: to take the original message that he said yesterday. No,
- 26:15Speaker 2: he said he said, I can't wait for Saturday. We
- 26:17Speaker 2: need our fans to bring the energy and make a
- 26:19Speaker 2: difference for our team. Come ready to have a great time.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Be loud and enjoy the day. Be respectful of everyone
- 26:26Speaker 2: in the stadium. There are plenty of options to enjoy
- 26:31Speaker 2: responsibly inside Kroger Field.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Bring the noise. Let's have some fun. See you Saturday.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Go Cats.
- 26:37Speaker 2: That is the message of somebody who got a little
- 26:40Speaker 2: bit of a talking to. Dial it back just a
- 26:42Speaker 2: little bit.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Oh, come on. I loved it. I did too. It's like, okay.
- 26:47Speaker 1: everybody was getting on. That's a UK visit. That's my coach.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And that's exactly how I felt. This is kind of
- 26:53Speaker 1: the resurgence we needed in UK football. I want a
- 26:57Speaker 1: coach like that. I want one. That's going to say
- 27:00Speaker 1: outlandish things like that. It was in fun. If you
- 27:03Speaker 1: took it out of context, that's your problem. I don't
- 27:06Speaker 1: think he needs to come back and dial it back.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And I'm sorry that he was told to, cause you're right.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I think he clearly was told to, uh, Most likely
- 27:14Speaker 1: by Jay Blatt. And I'm not going to criticize him
- 27:16Speaker 1: for that. But come on, man. Are we really taking
- 27:19Speaker 1: that seriously? Everybody has brought in a flask to UK
- 27:24Speaker 1: football my entire life. I think since the existence of
- 27:28Speaker 1: UK football. Me?
- 27:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 3: No.
- 27:31Speaker 1: My earliest memories. I'm not a big drinker. That's true.
- 27:34Speaker 2: My earliest memories of being in Commonwealth Stadium was walking
- 27:37Speaker 2: around and you'd smell the bourbon.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. They didn't sell bourbon in the stadium back then. No.
- 27:43Speaker 2: People were sneaking in. And Will knows how to hit
- 27:47Speaker 2: the viral button. You know, like he knows what to
- 27:49Speaker 2: say that gets stuff picked up, like you said, by
- 27:51Speaker 2: the New York Post, by national outlets.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And all of that is good. He sounds like a
- 27:55Speaker 1: cool coach. Yeah. Oh, absolutely. It's good marketing. He's the
- 27:59Speaker 1: guy I want to hang out with. If I'm going
- 28:02Speaker 1: to a bar, if I'm going somewhere and I'm like,
- 28:04Speaker 1: who do I want to hang out with tonight? I mean,
- 28:06Speaker 1: first person on my phone line is going to be
- 28:08Speaker 1: Will Stein. It just seems like a really– when we
- 28:11Speaker 1: were there for media day, he just was hanging out
- 28:14Speaker 1: with everybody. He wasn't a head coach. He was a
- 28:19Speaker 1: guy that was excited about UK football starting. You want
- 28:22Speaker 1: to talk to him, he wants to talk to you.
- 28:24Speaker 1: And I love that. I love the accessibility that he's
- 28:27Speaker 1: made himself towards everyone. Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:32Speaker 2: He sounds like one of us. I even joked, like,
- 28:36Speaker 2: he sounds like a millennial because he is one. Like,
- 28:39Speaker 2: he talks like one. Even that press conference after the
- 28:41Speaker 2: first game where he slipped up and dropped a little
- 28:44Speaker 2: bit of an F-bomb.
- 28:45Speaker 1: But that's how, like, that's how we talk. He really does.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Instead of the, uh, it's the blanking, uh, like, he just, like,
- 28:51Speaker 1: you know. I'm a big fan of Will Stein.
- 28:54Speaker 2: I'm actually wearing the, this is our uniform from when
- 28:57Speaker 2: we played AAU baseball together.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Is that an every Friday thing now, Pete? Yeah. Wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I didn't know this. You played baseball with Will Stein? Yes. Yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 1: we were on the same travel team. So you know
- 29:08Speaker 1: him really well then. Yeah.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I mean, we, you know, I didn't, we haven't talked
- 29:12Speaker 2: really since, I don't know, his first year at Louisville.
- 29:16Speaker 2: But yeah, we used to, we drove to Lexington together
- 29:18Speaker 2: for baseball games and we met up at some football
- 29:20Speaker 2: games and things like that. So, Uh, you know, went to,
- 29:23Speaker 2: did the high school thing together, but that was, um,
- 29:26Speaker 2: it's so weird. Uh, I first base left field. Um, yeah, he, he, he,
- 29:33Speaker 2: but he's a good baseball player. He's good at everything.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Like he's one of those dudes who like, but you know,
- 29:38Speaker 2: give him a basketball. He's good at that. I've got,
- 29:40Speaker 2: made a mistake i've eric wood i ran into him
- 29:43Speaker 2: the former uofl uh that is a mistake why is
- 29:47Speaker 2: that Oh, there was more to the story?
- 29:49Speaker 1: Gotcha. You just ran into him? Wow. Ran into he
- 29:53Speaker 1: and his wife. And I'm a big Eric Wood fan. Yeah.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Even though he played at UofL. He's offered to come on.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And I'm like, I got to get him in here.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Because he's like, Michael, I got all kinds of stories
- 30:04Speaker 1: about Will.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yeah. So we're going to have... I thought, well, why
- 30:07Speaker 1: not wait until it's UK UofL week? But I think
- 30:10Speaker 1: I'll figure a time to have Eric come in here
- 30:12Speaker 1: and talk about him. Which would be fun. But... All right,
- 30:17Speaker 1: let's talk about the game, because I think that's one
- 30:19Speaker 1: of those things that everybody's buzzing about. Now the entire
- 30:23Speaker 1: country's buzzing about it. Are they? Yes. It's the only
- 30:27Speaker 1: SEC-SEC game. And not just that.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but you've also got Ohio State and Texas. Yeah,
- 30:33Speaker 2: but they're a totally different time slot.
- 30:35Speaker 1: That's true. That's true. Yes, that's the marquee matchup. Oh, absolutely.
- 30:40Speaker 1: It's the number one game. But 3.30, there's going to
- 30:42Speaker 1: be a lot of people tuning in for sure. Oh, sure.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Because there's a lot of people now predicting that, hey,
- 30:47Speaker 1: there might be an upset alert here. And I love
- 30:51Speaker 1: the buzz that's going on. For UK to actually win
- 30:58Speaker 1: this game, what does Steven Peake think that UK has
- 31:03Speaker 1: to do?
- 31:06Speaker 2: Make the simple plays look simple again. And that's offense
- 31:10Speaker 2: and defense.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Yes.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I'm hoping that we see a little bit of an
- 31:15Speaker 2: improvement on the defensive side of the ball with the
- 31:17Speaker 2: cornerbacks coming back. We forget we got Malachi Wood returning
- 31:20Speaker 2: this week also on the offensive side.
- 31:22Speaker 1: So I.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Think that you just continue to make the simple plays
- 31:26Speaker 2: look simple, converting your third downs. I think the best
- 31:29Speaker 2: play that I saw from last week's game was that
- 31:32Speaker 2: third and sixth. Michael, how many times did a third
- 31:35Speaker 2: and six, well, just feel insurmountable. Like it felt impossible
- 31:38Speaker 2: to convert a third and six for the last 10 years.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:41Speaker 2: It felt the third and six. All right, let's go
- 31:43Speaker 2: ahead and just get ready to kick a field goal or,
- 31:44Speaker 2: or punt the ball away. And they just have Willie
- 31:47Speaker 2: Rodriguez go over the middle and you hit them with
- 31:48Speaker 2: a quick pass. Oh, that's 10 yards.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Oh, it's that easy. Exactly. That easy. And we hadn't
- 31:53Speaker 1: seen that in years, even against FCS teams. Right. So, um, yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I think just keep making those, those simple plays simple. And, and, uh, it,
- 32:03Speaker 1: I don't know. You're probably going to need a 300-yard
- 32:04Speaker 1: game again out of Menchie. If not more.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're going to have to outscore them, I
- 32:10Speaker 2: feel like. I don't think the defense is going to
- 32:12Speaker 2: hold Alabama.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Well, that's the name of the game. In order to win,
- 32:14Speaker 1: you do have to outscore them. That is true, yes.
- 32:16Speaker 2: I think just to be able to– this defense I'm
- 32:20Speaker 2: a little concerned about, but we really don't know. No,
- 32:24Speaker 2: I think that Bateman really held back in that game.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I hope so. But we saw a little bit. We
- 32:33Speaker 1: saw a little bit of excitement. It almost felt like
- 32:37Speaker 1: the How Mummy days when you had that just run
- 32:41Speaker 1: and gun, run and gun. And it was so much
- 32:43Speaker 1: fun to watch. Even when you were losing, that was
- 32:46Speaker 1: one of the things How Mummy would bring up. He's like,
- 32:49Speaker 1: look around the stadium. We're losing, but people are still
- 32:52Speaker 1: here and supporting this team. This is not just a
- 32:55Speaker 1: basketball school. People love the football here. They want to
- 32:58Speaker 1: see football succeed. And when we come back, I want
- 33:01Speaker 1: to delve a little more into it because, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 1: one thing you said is like we got to outscore them.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I mean, that's just a drastic comment I've never heard
- 33:09Speaker 1: before that, you know, we should concentrate on that more. Really,
- 33:13Speaker 1: is that what you need to do? Justin, he's never
- 33:15Speaker 1: coming back to do this show, is he? We got
- 33:18Speaker 1: to get more points.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I think if we can do that, almost every team
- 33:23Speaker 2: except for Western Michigan, if they've ended the game with
- 33:26Speaker 2: more points, they've won the game.
- 33:29Speaker 1: That's the best comment I've heard so far. Stay right there.
- 33:32Speaker 1: We got more of Just the Cats with Steven Feig
- 33:35Speaker 1: right here on the Big X. No sunshine. Yeah, running
- 33:38Speaker 1: down a dream.
- 33:39Speaker 2: You never.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Would come to me.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Working on a mystery. Going wherever it leads. Running down
- 33:54Speaker 1: a dream. Thank you for watching! Just to let you know, Mr. Justin. Yeah.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Steven likes this song. No, I don't mind this song.
- 34:50Speaker 1: All right, Steven. Justin lets me pick one song every day.
- 34:55Speaker 1: He wants me to pick it and go from there.
- 34:57Speaker 1: I'll pick the next five based on what he says.
- 35:00Speaker 1: He comes in today and says, by the way, the
- 35:03Speaker 1: songs you picked on the last few Fridays have sucked.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I mean, he completely emphasized sucked. It's like. Well, this
- 35:13Speaker 1: one's kind of meaningful because this song is called Dreams,
- 35:16Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm dreaming we're going to get a
- 35:18Speaker 1: win tomorrow. It works, yeah.
- 35:20Speaker 2: It's like, oh, okay, I get it now. That's when
- 35:22Speaker 2: I had to back off and be like, okay, that
- 35:24Speaker 2: makes sense. You can do Stars Fell on Alabama next week.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good one. I'll play it on Monday.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Listen to him. Actually, I will not play it on Monday. No,
- 35:33Speaker 1: you will not. You'll play it next Thursday. No, I won't.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Why?
- 35:36Speaker 1: Because the stars aren't going to fall on Alabama. Oh,
- 35:39Speaker 1: my gosh, man.
- 35:40Speaker 2: That was the song Hal Mummy picked for his coach's
- 35:42Speaker 2: show the week after they beat Alabama in 97.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I did not remember that.
- 35:47Speaker 2: You know, remember Hal Mummy would pick a Jimmy Buffett
- 35:50Speaker 2: song to close out his show every week.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I completely forgot about that. You remember that Cooper Dry
- 35:55Speaker 1: was called Mummy Pass. Oh, no, I didn't know that. Yeah,
- 35:59Speaker 1: they had changed the name while Hal Mummy was here
- 36:02Speaker 1: and called it Mummy Pass, which I thought was pretty cool. But, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Speaking of how, I mean, yeah, the way the offense looked,
- 36:09Speaker 2: there was a lot of dink and dunking over the middle.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Yes. Very, very reminiscent of the Mike Leach offense. And
- 36:15Speaker 1: not just that, but this is one thing that Justin
- 36:18Speaker 1: reminded us on Tuesday that not only did we pass
- 36:22Speaker 1: it to one tight end, we passed it to two
- 36:24Speaker 1: tight ends. That's one thing. Exactly. That's the other part.
- 36:28Speaker 1: You can't pinpoint who is going to be the main
- 36:30Speaker 1: target right now. Yeah. And I love that. And I
- 36:34Speaker 1: thought many, many. Minchie did a great job. I mean,
- 36:37Speaker 1: I thought Kenny came out there. And for a first game, granted,
- 36:41Speaker 1: I know it's Youngstown State. But let's be honest, too.
- 36:44Speaker 1: They're one of the best FCS teams out there. So
- 36:47Speaker 1: it's not like it was a walkover. It's not like
- 36:49Speaker 1: we're playing Villanova. Hey, all.
- 36:53Speaker 2: You can't play all the– gosh, Louisville schedule is just–
- 36:56Speaker 2: it's– Yeah, thanks for not saying Howard.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I could have said that one as well.
- 37:01Speaker 2: But for real, I mean, Kentucky– the EKU game with
- 37:04Speaker 2: Devin Leary not that long ago was like 7-7 with
- 37:07Speaker 2: a couple minutes to go in the first half. I mean,
- 37:09Speaker 2: UT Chattanooga, the year they had Will Levis, it was
- 37:12Speaker 2: 21-16 in the fourth quarter, and they took a pick
- 37:15Speaker 2: six to, like, get Kentucky– to have a little separation
- 37:19Speaker 2: so exactly just yes you should score 45 points against
- 37:23Speaker 2: fcs teams even if they're really good right but it
- 37:25Speaker 2: was nice and refreshing to see it done so easily
- 37:28Speaker 2: i mean three possessions boom boom boom touchdown touchdown touchdown
- 37:31Speaker 2: you know it's it's it feels like we're we're watching
- 37:35Speaker 2: the 90s again well i i i would get frustrated
- 37:37Speaker 2: because i'd go watch other offenses Yes.
- 37:39Speaker 1: From other teams. Like they're always wide open. Well, why
- 37:42Speaker 1: can't we get wide? Why can't we get a ball
- 37:44Speaker 1: to the player? Everybody kept saying, well, we'll love is
- 37:47Speaker 1: a great quarterback. We'll prove it to me. I never
- 37:49Speaker 1: saw him as a great quarterback. I saw him as
- 37:51Speaker 1: a pretty good at best quarterback. And now that I
- 37:55Speaker 1: think we have a, really potentially a really nice quarterback.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to say he's good. I'm not going
- 38:01Speaker 1: to say he's great. I think he has the potential
- 38:03Speaker 1: to be a good, if not great quarterback. Yeah.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I think he's, he has the potential to look like
- 38:08Speaker 2: a great quarterback in this system. Like, I think that
- 38:11Speaker 2: we had some really good quarterbacks in the Mark Stoops
- 38:14Speaker 2: era that Did we really?
- 38:16Speaker 1: Well, I think like I'm going to I'm going to
- 38:19Speaker 1: come back at you and say, no, we didn't.
- 38:21Speaker 2: I think Devin Leary was pretty good, but I think
- 38:24Speaker 2: Will Levis was good.
- 38:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 38:27Speaker 2: I think he messed up a lot of his stuff
- 38:29Speaker 2: in 2022.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I see. I think Brock Vandergriff had potential to be
- 38:33Speaker 1: the best quarterback of all the quarterbacks under Mark Suess. Yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 2: But he had no line and he had an offensive
- 38:39Speaker 2: coordinator that I just don't think was ready for that.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I think was that, it was that Bush Hamden's first
- 38:43Speaker 2: year in the sec.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Yeah. So yeah. That was a big hit, but a
- 38:48Speaker 1: gigantic miss on top of it all. Steven Johnson was
- 38:51Speaker 1: just an okay quarterback. Terry Wilson was an okay quarterback.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Lin Bowden was great, though. Lin Bowden was your... Listen,
- 38:59Speaker 1: I'll take Lin Bowden over all of them. If you
- 39:01Speaker 1: give me that O-line and you give me... Yes. I'll
- 39:04Speaker 1: take Lin almost over any quarterback of the Mark Stoops era.
- 39:08Speaker 4: See?
- 39:08Speaker 1: I couldn't agree with you more. I put him up
- 39:11Speaker 1: there with Randall Cobb. He could just create... And that's,
- 39:15Speaker 1: if it weren't for Lynn Bowden, we would have not
- 39:17Speaker 1: have beaten Missouri in Columbia. That game that Terry Wilson
- 39:21Speaker 1: connected with, who was the title? CJ Conrad. Conrad.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Yeah. So let's go to the Whiskey Thief text line.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I want to get through a few of these. before
- 39:30Speaker 1: we get any further. Michael, I'm not taking a side,
- 39:32Speaker 1: but a lot of the protests towards the bank stem
- 39:36Speaker 1: from them writing loans and cartoon character signatures that led
- 39:39Speaker 1: to the 2008 financial crisis. Okay, maybe that was the
- 39:43Speaker 1: reason why she was wearing a A hot dog. I mean,
- 39:46Speaker 1: but it was still funny. I'm sorry. Oh, boy. Here
- 39:49Speaker 1: we go. Here is the most optimistic UK fan anywhere.
- 39:55Speaker 1: I'm just going to tell you right now. Oh, big nose. Okay.
- 39:58Speaker 1: It's local John. Oh, right. John. Michael, I took your advice,
- 40:02Speaker 1: and I am completely embracing it and saying it with
- 40:05Speaker 1: my chest. I even put my face and mouth on
- 40:08Speaker 1: my local John 1812 video on YouTube. Kenny Minchie is
- 40:13Speaker 1: the best QB in college. Let's go. And he will
- 40:18Speaker 1: be a future NFL Hall of Famer. See, I knew
- 40:21Speaker 1: he was thinking this. Kentucky will beat Alabama 27-24. Great
- 40:26Speaker 1: to see you, Peek. Watch Kentucky roll call, everyone. It's awesome.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Thank you, Local John. Yeah. Well, you know he put
- 40:35Speaker 1: Kenny Minchie's name along with Joe Montana. Yeah. Hey, look.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Why not? Why not? We don't know yet. We really don't.
- 40:45Speaker 1: He looked great. One game.
- 40:48Speaker 2: One game against an FCS team, but that's okay. We'll
- 40:51Speaker 2: know a lot more for Saturday. If he gets anywhere
- 40:54Speaker 2: close to the numbers he put up the previous Saturday,
- 40:56Speaker 2: we might be all buying that. We'd be coming here
- 41:00Speaker 2: next week saying Kenny Menchie needs to win the Heisman.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Well, he is on the board now.
- 41:06Speaker 1: He's on the board? He is on the board as
- 41:08Speaker 1: a small percentage of winning the Heisman. So, listen, he's
- 41:13Speaker 1: up there. And credit to him. Might as well be
- 41:15Speaker 1: they got Louisville projected in the playoffs in their 0-1. Oh,
- 41:18Speaker 1: my gosh. Wow. Or in the first four out. That's
- 41:20Speaker 1: what it was. Yeah. Listen, I... Well, I don't want
- 41:25Speaker 1: to get started with that because I still love Vince.
- 41:28Speaker 1: And he'll give me a hard time if I say anything.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Sounds like you're scared. No, I'm not scared. I just, well,
- 41:36Speaker 1: maybe I am a little bit. He is a big guy.
- 41:39Speaker 1: And he'd pound me. I mean, he would just take
- 41:41Speaker 1: one fist on top of my head and I'd be
- 41:43Speaker 1: four feet under.
- 41:44Speaker 2: How long do we have to go as Kentucky fans?
- 41:46Speaker 2: How far removed? Because we came back around to Rick Pitino.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I feel like a lot of fans did.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 41:51Speaker 2: We will come back. We will look back at Mark
- 41:53Speaker 2: Stoops fondly because of what he did. First nine and
- 41:57Speaker 2: three seasons I've ever seen. When will we do that
- 41:59Speaker 2: with Vince Merrill? How long until after he's done working
- 42:02Speaker 2: at Louisville? Will we be able to go, yeah, man,
- 42:04Speaker 2: Vince was awesome. He did a lot of good stuff
- 42:05Speaker 2: for Kentucky. I think he was the reason Kentucky had
- 42:08Speaker 2: the success.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I agree. A lot of it. I'm very biased with that.
- 42:12Speaker 1: I think it takes one year because he's promised a
- 42:15Speaker 1: certain radio announcer. In fact, he approached that person, as
- 42:19Speaker 1: soon as I'm done with football, we're doing a show together. Ah.
- 42:23Speaker 1: So I think if he does do that... Then I
- 42:27Speaker 1: think it'll be over immediately. I really do. He's tried
- 42:30Speaker 1: to convince me, Michael, just the card sounds better than
- 42:33Speaker 1: just the cats. I'll get, I'll feed you all the
- 42:36Speaker 1: information you want. Nobody will have any other information like you.
- 42:39Speaker 1: It's like, dude, I am not doing that. Yeah. You
- 42:42Speaker 1: can't for me too. I'll start just the card. Sounds
- 42:47Speaker 1: like a great opportunity. Listen, the name of your next
- 42:53Speaker 1: show is Just the Justy, okay? Just to let you know.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Josh texted out, ask Peek if he ever found a
- 43:01Speaker 1: place to hang the UK medal sign I bought. What? Yeah,
- 43:05Speaker 1: he came in. What? You haven't been here long and
- 43:08Speaker 1: you got a sign from Josh? I have absolutely zilch. Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 1: he came in. Thanks a lot. That's because you're getting
- 43:15Speaker 1: hammered constantly. He's never given you one? They're really cool.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Sorry if Michael's looking at it. Rub it in more, Pete.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Rub it in more. Yeah, exactly. Rub it in some more. Oh, no.
- 43:27Speaker 2: You got to hang it up in my garage. I
- 43:28Speaker 2: have like a Kentucky like shrine in my garage.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's nice. It looks good. He also gave Matt,
- 43:34Speaker 1: the producer, a Louisville one. He gave Matt one. I'm
- 43:39Speaker 1: the reason Matt was here. I haven't gotten a sign either.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Justin never got one. No. Wow. Must be nice. Listen,
- 43:47Speaker 1: I got some donuts one day from Jamie, so I
- 43:48Speaker 1: was happy for that. Oh, there you go. Yeah. I'll
- 43:50Speaker 1: take the donuts over some stinking metal sign. One person texted, thankfully,
- 43:55Speaker 1: according to some, Minchie is Joe Montana and Patrick Mahoney
- 44:00Speaker 1: rolled up into one. He called him Patrick Mahoney. I
- 44:07Speaker 1: love that. Speaking of donuts, but let's get to this one.
- 44:14Speaker 1: The biggest thing I see in Stein is his confidence.
- 44:17Speaker 1: He doesn't give coach speech. Very confident because he's been
- 44:22Speaker 1: a winner wherever he goes. Is it because he's new
- 44:25Speaker 1: to being the head man and he's not used to, well,
- 44:29Speaker 1: maybe I need to tone this down a little bit.
- 44:31Speaker 1: And it's the newness to the job.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I think he sees somebody like Cignetti and the way
- 44:37Speaker 2: that he was just so confident, especially in one of
- 44:39Speaker 2: those opening press conferences.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Yeah, because everybody laughed at him. Google me. Yeah.
- 44:44Speaker 2: You got to have that. That resonates with players that
- 44:47Speaker 2: you're trying to get to play for you. I mean,
- 44:50Speaker 2: they want to play for somebody that has that confidence
- 44:53Speaker 2: and that swagger. And you talk to these players, they...
- 44:56Speaker 2: They like Will Stein. They like playing for him. They said, like,
- 44:58Speaker 2: in the locker room, he is going around singing the
- 45:01Speaker 2: songs with them. By the way, by the way, and
- 45:03Speaker 2: I don't want to get too far off topic here.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Did you hear that Will Stein listens to reggae before games?
- 45:08Speaker 1: Yes. He talked about it on the show. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:12Speaker 1: That blew your mind away. Are we going to break? Yeah,
- 45:16Speaker 1: we're going to a break. Come on. This is the
- 45:18Speaker 1: big X. We don't need breaks anyway. Stay right there.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Hour two. Steven Peake, Justin Kalen, Michael Bennett. Welcome to
- 45:47Speaker 1: Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. All right, hour number two.
- 45:53Speaker 1: If you want to text in on the Whiskey Thief
- 45:55Speaker 1: text line like this guy did, you can do it
- 45:59Speaker 1: at 502-414-1450. Ain't no way Vince actually told you to
- 46:02Speaker 1: name it just the cards. Add that to the list
- 46:04Speaker 1: of things that didn't happen. I'll be glad to call
- 46:09Speaker 1: Vince right now and have him come on and say that.
- 46:13Speaker 1: I mean, I'd be more than happy to do that.
- 46:14Speaker 1: But anyway, why would I make up something like that? Whatever.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Why not? I think we'll get a hello Nick Roush
- 46:23Speaker 1: again this year. I sure hope not. A hello Nick Roush.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about.
- 46:29Speaker 2: So Vince tweeted at Nick Roush last year from the
- 46:31Speaker 2: sideline while Louisville was running the score up on Kentucky.
- 46:36Speaker 1: I forgot that. And I got to be real. Tip
- 46:39Speaker 1: of the hat. Well done. That's good use of that website. Yeah. uh,
- 46:44Speaker 1: Vince Merrow. That was good.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I mean, you know, all's fair and love and war.
- 46:47Speaker 2: So it's, it's a rivalry.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Yeah. It's a rivalry. You know, they were beating us.
- 46:52Speaker 2: And the thing is too, is that we were talking
- 46:55Speaker 2: about this, just not just the Louisville game, but how
- 46:57Speaker 2: about this? If Kentucky gets one more yard against Texas,
- 47:04Speaker 2: that score last Saturday is like 24 to 13.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Cause Mark Stoops is still the head coach. Yeah, exactly.
- 47:11Speaker 2: So if Louisville doesn't do what they did to Kentucky
- 47:14Speaker 2: last year, if we didn't get the hello Nick Roush
- 47:17Speaker 2: tweet from Vince Mero.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Oh, so you're blaming Vince. You're blaming Vince for the
- 47:22Speaker 1: firing of Mark Stoops. Yes. I would. Yeah. Because that
- 47:26Speaker 1: changed the entire dynamic of UK football. It felt like
- 47:30Speaker 1: when he left and. Maybe I'm giving Vince too much credit. No,
- 47:35Speaker 1: you're not. But I felt like when he left, we
- 47:37Speaker 1: all knew, like, okay, this is about over. It's a
- 47:39Speaker 1: matter of time. Yeah. Yeah. I certainly did. And I
- 47:43Speaker 1: like Mark. I mean. Love Mark Stoops. Yeah. How could
- 47:46Speaker 1: you not? Great guy.
- 47:48Speaker 2: These coaching jobs, too, are not like they used to
- 47:50Speaker 2: be where guys are going to stay for 30 years
- 47:52Speaker 2: and be the guy forever. I mean, I don't know
- 47:54Speaker 2: how many more years Mark Stoops would have been there
- 47:56Speaker 2: on his own anyway.
- 47:57Speaker 4: But.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Same with Will Stein. I don't think Will Stein... Will
- 48:00Speaker 2: Stein's 36. He's not going to coach at Kentucky for
- 48:02Speaker 2: his entire career.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Why not?
- 48:05Speaker 2: Because I think if he has success here, maybe he
- 48:08Speaker 2: won't go to another college. But I think in talking with...
- 48:13Speaker 2: How long has Kirby Smart been in Georgia?
- 48:16Speaker 1: How long has it been? I want to say it's
- 48:19Speaker 1: been over 15 years.
- 48:21Speaker 2: I could see a scenario where Will Stein has a
- 48:23Speaker 2: lot of success... Where would he go? And he goes
- 48:27Speaker 2: to the NFL. And he's like the next like the
- 48:29Speaker 2: big high coach that, you know, in the sport.
- 48:32Speaker 1: I could totally see that. Kirby's only been there since 2015.
- 48:34Speaker 1: I thought it was longer. Is that all?
- 48:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Okay, that's shorter than I thought. How many years was
- 48:39Speaker 1: Nick Saban at Alabama? It's probably 10 years for him,
- 48:43Speaker 1: wasn't it? He's there for a long time. He was? Okay.
- 48:46Speaker 1: So it's 2006. Is that when he got there? Scoots,
- 48:48Speaker 1: you got to look that up. Looking that up now. Yeah,
- 48:50Speaker 1: because I'm trying to think, who are the coaches out
- 48:53Speaker 1: there today that have been there? Now, you know, you
- 48:56Speaker 1: can go through the basketball ones. 2007 to 2013. Okay. 16. Okay,
- 48:58Speaker 1: 16 years.
- 48:58Speaker 2: That's the best. That's the guy who's– Yeah. I mean,
- 49:06Speaker 2: that is the football coach. Were you a Saban fan
- 49:09Speaker 2: when he coached your Dolphins, Pete?
- 49:11Speaker 1: Yes. Dude, he would have had the Dolphins in the
- 49:13Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Oh, please. He's a horrible NFL coach. That
- 49:18Speaker 1: doesn't transpire. great coach he flipped that style of no look.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Up that team that 2000 to think 2005 team they
- 49:26Speaker 2: sucked they were awful like at most often teams but
- 49:29Speaker 2: nick saban had them uh turned around they finished the
- 49:32Speaker 2: season i think like nine and seven they had no
- 49:34Speaker 2: business uh finishing above 500 and yes nick saban what
- 49:40Speaker 2: He got really upset that they wanted him to tank.
- 49:45Speaker 2: And if you read the book, I don't think, it's
- 49:47Speaker 2: not the book, he didn't write it, but somebody else did.
- 49:49Speaker 2: And he said, like, the NFL rewards you for sucking.
- 49:53Speaker 2: And I can't be a part of that because they do.
- 49:56Speaker 2: But I will say, if you get the number one pick,
- 49:58Speaker 2: and I looked this up, since 1999, if you get
- 50:01Speaker 2: the number one pick in the draft, only three teams
- 50:04Speaker 2: with the number one pick since 1999 have gone on
- 50:06Speaker 2: to win the Super Bowl, and it had nothing to
- 50:08Speaker 2: do with the picks that they took.
- 50:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:10Speaker 1: So, I know I'm a Dolphins fan. They're not. They're
- 50:14Speaker 1: going to try to get the number one pick. I'm
- 50:15Speaker 1: a Bucs fan. Bucs? Yeah. Oh, so you've seen a
- 50:18Speaker 1: Super Bowl, a couple of them, in my lifetime at least. Yeah, exactly.
- 50:22Speaker 1: We have the worst quarterback in the NFL. I don't
- 50:25Speaker 1: like our quarterback. I think he sucks. And he just
- 50:28Speaker 1: got a brand new extended contract, which he's not worth
- 50:31Speaker 1: any of it. Yeah. By the way, Wes Welker was
- 50:34Speaker 1: on that Dolphins team, Peek. We talked about him earlier
- 50:36Speaker 1: this week. Yeah. Yeah, Wes Welker hit on my wife. What?
- 50:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Really?
- 50:42Speaker 2: She didn't know who he was. Did she hit back?
- 50:44Speaker 2: This was before we were married, but we knew each other. Well,
- 50:46Speaker 2: I hope that was before you were married. Yeah, I
- 50:48Speaker 2: was going to fight him, you know? Bring it on, Wes. Yeah,
- 50:51Speaker 2: good luck with that. You know, just like Gronk would say,
- 50:54Speaker 2: you know, squirrel needs a nut. Let the squirrel get
- 50:56Speaker 2: his nut. They were at some derby party, and they
- 51:01Speaker 2: were hanging out, and she— I think she figured out
- 51:04Speaker 2: he was married or something.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:05Speaker 2: And she was like, oh, okay, never mind. And one
- 51:07Speaker 2: of her friends was like, he plays in the NFL.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Did he hand her a $ 100 bill? Nothing. He's a jerk.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I'm talking to my oldest son's girlfriend over the weekend
- 51:17Speaker 1: when we were down at the Vanderbilt-Austin Peay game. And
- 51:22Speaker 1: this little guy, I don't know how you describe him,
- 51:26Speaker 1: you know, little guy, comes up, and he's probably in his...
- 51:32Speaker 1: I'd say he's in his early 30s, and he's probably,
- 51:37Speaker 1: and I'm not exaggerating, three feet tall, and comes up
- 51:40Speaker 1: and asks my son's girlfriend if she would go dance
- 51:43Speaker 1: with him. And did she? She said, oh, I'm so sorry.
- 51:47Speaker 1: I have a boyfriend. That doesn't mean you can't dance. No,
- 51:51Speaker 1: it doesn't. But my wife quickly said, yeah, he probably
- 51:55Speaker 1: thought he had a chance because he saw her talking
- 51:59Speaker 1: to me. It's like, thanks a lot, Patricia. What does
- 52:04Speaker 1: that say for you? That is a good joke. That's
- 52:08Speaker 1: a good joke. That's my wife. I mean, there you go.
- 52:11Speaker 1: So that's the way I'm treated in my family. So anyway,
- 52:14Speaker 1: but yeah, well, good for you that your wife was
- 52:16Speaker 1: hit on by Wes Welker. Then why didn't she go
- 52:20Speaker 1: with it? She saw he was married. I think he
- 52:22Speaker 1: was wearing a wedding ring. What?
- 52:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:24Speaker 1: The guy had the gumption to go ask a girl
- 52:27Speaker 1: out while wearing a wedding ring.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Some of these NFL guys, they get these derby parties.
- 52:32Speaker 2: I don't think they're too concerned. Oh, this was here
- 52:33Speaker 2: in Louisville at a derby party.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Wow.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Okay.
- 52:36Speaker 2: That's why I asked about the $ 100 bill based on
- 52:38Speaker 2: what we talked about earlier.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you know that, Pete? Was he one of
- 52:42Speaker 1: the guys that was throwing the money out? That was
- 52:44Speaker 1: him that won the money that he wasn't supposed to get.
- 52:47Speaker 1: That's probably the same. What year was that? That was
- 52:49Speaker 1: just like three or four years ago, wasn't it? It was, yeah. Okay,
- 52:52Speaker 1: so it was before that.
- 52:53Speaker 3: 2014.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Oh, was it that long ago? No way. Wow. I
- 52:58Speaker 1: think this happened in like 2017. But yeah. Interesting. Yeah.
- 53:03Speaker 1: I was a big Wes Welker fan. Then he went
- 53:06Speaker 1: to the Patriots and I couldn't be. I'm curious to
- 53:08Speaker 1: see what Steven's wife looks like. So now I've got
- 53:11Speaker 1: to go look that up somehow, some way. I'm sure
- 53:14Speaker 1: he'll probably just show you a picture if you'd like. Okay, well,
- 53:16Speaker 1: show me a picture. But we'll do that during the break,
- 53:19Speaker 1: and I'll gawk at that. Anyway, that sounds creepy. I'm sorry.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I'm not trying to sound creepy. No, just a little bit. Sorry.
- 53:26Speaker 1: I'm only slightly uncomfortable. We're fine. Really? Okay, good. Well,
- 53:29Speaker 1: at least we're across the desk. If you're sitting over
- 53:31Speaker 1: here next to me, it might be worse. What do
- 53:33Speaker 1: you think about the teacher in Texas? I've wanted to
- 53:38Speaker 1: talk about this all week long, and I'm going to
- 53:41Speaker 1: go off. I tend to go off topic a little bit.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Love it. there's a teacher in Texas that put out
- 53:48Speaker 1: a video on TikTok that has gone completely viral where
- 53:52Speaker 1: she has a specific area in her classroom. It's called
- 53:56Speaker 1: the fart corner. I saw that. The fart corner? The
- 54:00Speaker 1: fart corner, yes. So all of her classmates, including herself,
- 54:05Speaker 1: have to go to this one corner where she has
- 54:08Speaker 1: all kinds of spray to spray the corner, but you
- 54:11Speaker 1: are supposed to go in this corner and fart.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Is everybody going to abide by these? How many times
- 54:19Speaker 2: are kids getting up and going to the corner?
- 54:21Speaker 1: I'm going there and trying to force it out every
- 54:23Speaker 1: five minutes because that's all I did. I continue to
- 54:26Speaker 1: do it because I think passing gas is one of
- 54:29Speaker 1: the funniest things human beings can do. I love it.
- 54:32Speaker 1: My wife hates it, but I thought that was hilarious.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I think that's a great, it's not a novel idea.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I think it's a great idea. Is it going to
- 54:40Speaker 1: catch on? Is that going to be a thing? I
- 54:42Speaker 1: think so. Okay. Justin, what do you think? As a
- 54:46Speaker 1: kid in elementary school, did you think farting was funny? Absolutely. Yes. Yeah.
- 54:52Speaker 1: But I don't, I wouldn't want a corner designated to it. Listen,
- 54:56Speaker 1: I want to do it wherever I want. That's what
- 54:58Speaker 1: makes it funny. The sound it makes coming off those chairs. Exactly. Yes.
- 55:03Speaker 1: That's what made farts funny. That's the funny part.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Maybe that was it. Maybe it was too much of
- 55:07Speaker 2: a distraction. All the kids started laughing, and she had
- 55:10Speaker 2: a hard time getting everybody to focus on the math problems.
- 55:13Speaker 1: If you're getting up and say, hey, everybody, I'm going
- 55:15Speaker 1: to the fart corner, you're going to still laugh, and
- 55:18Speaker 1: it's still going to distract everybody. That's true.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Somebody getting up and walking down the- Yes. Because you're
- 55:23Speaker 2: already pre-laughing just watching somebody walk over.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 55:27Speaker 2: And if it's somebody who hasn't done it yet, if
- 55:30Speaker 2: you're like the one person who hasn't done it, everybody's
- 55:32Speaker 2: looking at you like, Really?
- 55:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:35Speaker 1: You've never done this? Yes. See, I'm getting up numbers,
- 55:39Speaker 1: and I'm giving it a ranking. Somebody's got to stash them.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I am going to rank these one through ten. That
- 55:45Speaker 1: was a definite number one. You sucked at it. You
- 55:48Speaker 1: need to work on it. And then there's going to
- 55:49Speaker 1: be some tens up there.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but you keep track of how many times somebody
- 55:53Speaker 2: does like this. Oh, he's got nine this week.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Yes. I like that. And you should rank it by
- 55:59Speaker 1: smell and loudness. There you go. Okay. Just rip it.
- 56:04Speaker 1: What if you don't make it to the corner? What
- 56:09Speaker 1: if it's a shark?
- 56:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I mean, what if it's worse? Does that have a
- 56:11Speaker 1: different corner? I enjoyed that. But can you imagine? It's
- 56:18Speaker 1: gotten well over 6 million views on TikTok. And I thought, well,
- 56:23Speaker 1: that's great. Good for her for doing that. All right.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Did we watch the Rams versus the 149ers last night?
- 56:30Speaker 1: We did. We watched a little bit of that. We
- 56:31Speaker 1: watched the second half. Yeah. Neither of y'all caught the joke,
- 56:35Speaker 1: but that's okay. No, what was the joke? Sorry. The
- 56:38Speaker 1: Rams versus the 149ers. Oh, come on, Justin. Yeah. By
- 56:46Speaker 1: the way, do we think he was there? I don't know.
- 56:50Speaker 2: I mean, if $ 140 is getting him that in Ohio,
- 56:52Speaker 2: what can he get in Australia?
- 56:54Speaker 1: Exactly. All right. It's not so much. So the Rams
- 56:59Speaker 1: lost big time, 27-7, okay? A couple of things. Well,
- 57:03Speaker 1: two or three things I want to talk about with
- 57:05Speaker 1: this game. Number one, did the Rams really screw up
- 57:10Speaker 1: by not traveling to Australia, Melbourne, Australia? 24 hours before
- 57:17Speaker 1: the game. A lot of people are saying that's the
- 57:20Speaker 1: reason they lost. I didn't realize they didn't do that. Yeah,
- 57:23Speaker 1: terrible mistake. Why would you not? Exactly.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Don't they get there many days early when they play
- 57:28Speaker 2: just in London, which is not as significant?
- 57:31Speaker 1: That's only a five-hour difference. Exactly. Yeah, if you're Germany,
- 57:34Speaker 1: it's a six-hour difference because some played in, what was it,
- 57:38Speaker 1: Ireland last year. And then now you've got the Australian one,
- 57:41Speaker 1: which is, what, a 12-hour difference? Yeah, it's like a
- 57:44Speaker 1: whole other– I mean, another day. Yeah.
- 57:46Speaker 2: So it might be 24 hour difference, but that seems
- 57:50Speaker 2: kind of crazy.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Have we talked about a long, long flight too? Have
- 57:53Speaker 1: we talked about Raheem Mostert, Michael? No, we have not.
- 57:56Speaker 1: So did you hear about him? No.
- 57:58Speaker 2: So he, I guess when the 49ers flew out last week,
- 58:02Speaker 2: they flew out on the second.
- 58:04Speaker 1: It's a 15 hour flight. Yeah. So they flew out
- 58:07Speaker 1: late on the second. Yeah. It's a hype. Didn't arrive
- 58:10Speaker 1: until early on the 4th. Raheem Mostert's 50th birthday was
- 58:15Speaker 1: on the 3rd. Missed his birthday. oh not just any birthday.
- 58:20Speaker 2: His 50th birthday he had that is so sad isn't
- 58:23Speaker 2: that crazy that is crazy yeah because that's a big
- 58:26Speaker 2: deal i mean just like just like we all look
- 58:29Speaker 2: at numbers in a completely uh i think we're all
- 58:32Speaker 2: pretty like today's 25th anniversary of 9-11 we look at
- 58:36Speaker 2: it differently today yes when i turned 30 when i
- 58:39Speaker 2: turned 40 when i turned 50 we i i looked
- 58:42Speaker 2: at it completely different i'd That is kind of sad, Justin.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I did not know that.
- 58:46Speaker 2: I'm sure they celebrated on the plane or when they
- 58:48Speaker 2: got there or whatnot. But still, he literally skipped his birthday.
- 58:52Speaker 2: I've never seen anything like that.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Wow.
- 58:53Speaker 1: I haven't either. I mean, those poor people that are
- 58:55Speaker 1: born on leap year. I feel bad for them. My
- 58:58Speaker 1: high school baseball coach was. Was he really? Yeah, we
- 59:00Speaker 1: were making jokes with him that we were older than him. Okay.
- 59:04Speaker 1: And he was like 60. Really? Wow. That's too bad. Well,
- 59:09Speaker 1: he was really high. old then at that point? He
- 59:10Speaker 1: would have been like, I don't know, 60 divided by four.
- 59:14Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 59:14Speaker 2: I was told there'd be no math.
- 59:17Speaker 1: 15. Yeah, there you go. That shouldn't be that hard.
- 59:21Speaker 1: That wasn't that hard. Okay, I was going to say.
- 59:23Speaker 1: All right.
- 59:23Speaker 2: Can we talk about Netflix coverage? Yes, we need to,
- 59:27Speaker 2: and everybody around the country needs to. This is a joke.
- 59:31Speaker 2: I watch stuff on YouTube TV all the time. I
- 59:33Speaker 2: watch it on the ESPN app, and it never buffers
- 59:35Speaker 2: like this. It never gets super pixelated. Was that the
- 59:38Speaker 2: case for you guys? It wasn't just that my house
- 59:41Speaker 2: sucks or my internet sucks?
- 59:42Speaker 1: My house was perfect. It was perfect the whole game?
- 59:45Speaker 1: It didn't. It buffered with like a minute and a
- 59:48Speaker 1: half left. It shouldn't have it. What if it was
- 59:50Speaker 1: a close game?
- 59:51Speaker 2: What if it was a close game and it buffers
- 59:53Speaker 2: with 90 seconds left?
- 59:55Speaker 1: You'd be furious.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Well, the roommate had said, so I was, I was
- 59:57Speaker 2: on the call of a high school game last night,
- 59:59Speaker 2: so I didn't get home till the second half. And
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: when it started buffering, he was like, what the heck?
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: It's like, it hasn't done this the whole game. So
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: it must have been really good on ours.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Well, you know, we had that real problem with that
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: fight they had because everybody was watching it and they
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: promised they would have it all set for a NFL.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: And to me, if it does it one time, that's
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: one time too many. 800%. Yeah. Because you don't, when is,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: when is it going to happen? It's a key play. Exactly. Exactly.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I mean, you only get 11 minutes to watch a
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: football game. They're only playing for 11 minutes. So if
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: you miss a play, you've missed a significant amount of
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: the portion where the, the, you're the ball is actually
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: in play.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: So, Yeah. Figure it out, Netflix. You're one of the
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: biggest streaming companies out there. You can't figure out how
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: to do this. Like YouTube, just regular YouTube.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: I mean, live streamers on their phone are figuring out
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: how to get stuff, you know, without any hiccups.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: What did you think about the pregame with Elle Duncan?
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: She was interviewing commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell. And
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: forces it. First of all, she's wearing gloves the entire time. Horrible.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Why is she wearing? And I'm not picking. Well, yeah,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I am picking on her. It looked ridiculous why she's wearing.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: And then on top of it all, she said, well,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: you know, the player of the game is going to
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: wear this jacket. And I want you to try it on.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: It was a jacket of a kangaroo. Like a kangaroo costume. Because. Right. Yeah.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Because they're in Australia. Yeah. And so she forces him
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: to put on this kangaroo jacket. And you could tell
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Goodell wasn't real thrilled about this. But, I mean, he's
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: already sold his soul to the devil by going to Netflix.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: And he did it. Credit to him. But I thought
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: this was the dumbest pregame I've literally ever watched. I'm
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: looking at the outfit right now.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: It's pretty horrible. The cutoffs with the gloves. Yeah, that
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: is a look.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well, just to comment about this a little bit more,
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: I think it's cool that they do this. I feel
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: like the NFL has just gotten so big, and it's
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: crazy because the whole world now follows the NFL. When
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: I was in London, you saw people wearing NFL jerseys.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Oh, did you really?
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Went to Tottenham's Hotspur Stadium, and the locker rooms there
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: have NFL stuff everywhere because that's the one they're trying
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: to get the Jaguars to play there in London. And so, like,
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: guys around there are huge Jaguar fans, and– It's, it's,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: and it's crazy because the only, it's the only league
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: that's like this, like soccer is big worldwide, but it's
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: many leagues. This is one league that has the whole
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: world's attention. And to, and to fill up that massive stadium,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: what was the What was the attendance last night? Does
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: anybody know off the top.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Of their head? Oh, I don't know what it was.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: It's one of the biggest stadiums ever, and I didn't
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: see very many empty seats. Really?
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: So I would give the NFL a ton of credit,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: as I do every year, for just how they've grown
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: this game.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: 100,021 fans. Oh, so it's as big as Wembley. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly, yeah.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Wembley's pretty big, too. Yeah, yeah. Uh, so, um, uh,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the one I, who was the game announcer? I mean, he,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: did you see where he kept calling Melbourne, Australia, Melbourne? No.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Was he trying to give the accent? I know he wasn't.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: He just kept.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Saying how an Australian person would say Melbourne.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Oh, that does. You're right. All right. I'm not going
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: to let y'all hate on him. Cause it was Noah Eagle.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I knew it was Noah Eagle, but he kept saying Melbourne.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: And he wasn't doing an accent. Maybe he heard other people.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: It's Melbourne. I don't know.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Maybe that's the way they really pronounce Melbourne. Is the
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Australian accent one of the worst?
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: What do you all think? No, I think it's one
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: of the best. Justin has a little bit of an
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Australian accent. You have an Australian accent?
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Let's hear it.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. G'day, mate. Oh, I hear it. I hear it. Well,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: remember when the Kentucky Derby had Chief Wallaby? Chief Wallaby. Yes,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: there you go. He always thought it was Australian. It's like, okay,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: enough of that. He says he has an Indian accent,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: but I haven't witnessed that one yet. I won't do
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: that one. Oh, come on. I'd like to hear it
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: off the air. Okay. All right. Can you do it?
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Do it.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: No, I'm not doing it. We're trying to get them
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: canceled here. Did you like the official last night?
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: The official? The official in the NFL game in Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: That when 49ers made a field goal, he did the
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Australian rules football signal for. Yeah, exactly. He goes down.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: That's hilarious. So he did the signal up and then
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: he goes down. Cause I, you know, they used to
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: show a lot of the Australian football game. I got
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: in super into it during COVID. I did too.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: It was the only live sports that were going on.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: So I picked the Brisbane lions as my team. and
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: rolled with them for a few years. I thought it
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: was great. The other game I want to talk about,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: we'll take a break first, but the Miami, boy, they
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: had a tough game last night.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: I don't know if y'all saw this or not, but
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: we'll talk about that as soon as we get back. Plus,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: we're going to get more into the football game. I
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: know we got a big, big, big game tomorrow, and
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it. I know Steven Peake's even
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: looking forward to it. I'm so pumped. Justin, are you
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: excited about this game?
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: I am.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Okay, good. I appreciate that. So, yeah. For a different
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: reason than y'all, but yeah. All right, then. Howard. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: He's tough. I mean, that's a really, really difficult thing.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Bison on bison tomorrow. I mean, that is so sad.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: We'll stay right there. All right. Well, we will stay
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: right there. You stay right there, too. This is just
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: a test. Cheer up, sleepy Jean.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: Oh, what can it mean to a daydream believer? I'm
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: sleepy Jean. Sweet dreams are made of the years Who
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: am I to disagree?
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I travel the world and.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: The seven seas Everybody's looking for something Some of them
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: want to use you Some of them want to get
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: used by you.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: Annie Lennox, The Eurythmics. I don't know why I know
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: stuff like this, but there you go. Texter's back on
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: me again. Can we have the full story behind your
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: death a few years ago? Well, I died and I
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: was resurrected. I don't know. What do you want me
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: to call him? Jesus. What we think is somebody, cause
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: I had, I used to, when I had the website, uh,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: just guys.com, I had a few interns and they think
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: somebody played a joke on me is what they were thinking. So, uh,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: I don't know what else to tell you, but, uh,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: That's just one of those things. This guy's kind of
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: picking on me and that's okay. Uh, 48 Hanley Wallaby
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: is the brand name of a shoe, uh, favored by
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Mike ball. That's why his wife, KK named the horse
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: that all of a, Oh boy. I, that's, that's an
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: interesting story. I had no idea. Um, One person said,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I'm sick. I'm so sick of scoots. Oh, here we go.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: He admitted live on air that college football is the
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: fifth favorite sport. And he cheers for a team that
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: has the most losses in all division one football. When
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: he talks about my team, it makes me want to
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: punt his little scoots butt across the river. That's a
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: great text. Are you kidding me? Well, what were you...
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Fifth best sport?
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: What?
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Hang on.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: How are the four better than college football? I don't
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: know if fifth is accurate. So it would be college basketball.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Yes. Fair enough. NFL. Yes.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Honestly, I have probably gotten to a point where college
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: football is now number three.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Okay. But... Yeah, I don't even know what would have
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: been ahead of that. See, I think it's a great question.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: We just wasted a championship, like a championship team on
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: a fan base that considers it the fourth or fifth
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: best sport? I just, Peek, I didn't grow up, growing
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: up an Indiana fan, I was never really all that
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: excited about college football because it was, We were never good.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Kentucky was never good. I got excited every Saturday in
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: the fall. You and me both. You all also play
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: in the SEC where you get fun games each and
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: every week. Oh, you think it's fun to go watch
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: your team get blown out? We're down 42 to nothing
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: at halftime.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: You think that's fun? All right. Well, I don't know.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: And not just that we were forced to stay the
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: entire game, no matter what the score was, because my
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: dad says, well, your brother-in-law doesn't want to leave. So
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: we're going to stay with your brother-in-law and sister because
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: he wants to stay the whole freaking game. I mean,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: it doesn't matter where it comes in on my pecking order, right?
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: It does matter. As long as it's on there, I
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: can cheer for who I want to cheer. It sounds
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: like Lexington Dexter's just extremely jealous that Indiana did what
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: they did.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: It just sounds like he's right and he's getting under
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: your skin. And they're going to do it more and
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: more and more and more.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: What would become before college football then if it wasn't third?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm having trouble with. He said NFL.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: I think it's a great question. I don't think it
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: would have been baseball. It wouldn't be hockey, not tennis.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Australian rules football?
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I guess at one point NASCAR would have been ahead
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: of college football. Oh, come on. I was a big
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: NASCAR fan. Were you really? Yeah. I mean, I watched
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: it every week. Where do you rank it, Steven? Oh, wait, wait.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: I forgot one. It's second. UFC.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: UFC is also up there. I don't know that it's
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: ahead of college football anymore, but it used to be. See,
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: who's first? College basketball. College basketball for you. But it's
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: like 1A, 1B. I am one of those people who
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: is like, would you give up a couple final fours
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: to make the national championship in college football?
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Yes, I would.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: I mean, it's the biggest sport. It's the one that
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: has the most attention. And there is, you know this,
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: there is nothing better than beating up.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: On these SEC teams every once in a while. We
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: don't get to do it all the time. But when
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: we do.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: For example, how many years in a row did Florida
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: fans come into our arena, pat us on the head
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: and say, you guys got a good little coach. I
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: think you all can keep it close. They don't do
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: that anymore. I'm ready for the rest of the SEC
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: to get humbled by us. Ole Miss fans, when we
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: went there in 2024. They were just like, it is
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: so nice of y'all to show up. I think it's so.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Sweet of y'all.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Y'all are, you got a, you got a good team
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: this year. And then we beat them and they walk
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: out of there crying. That's what I want these Alabama
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: fans to, because they come into our stadium tomorrow. We
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: know what they're going to do. They already think this
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: is going to be a blowout. They're not looking at
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: this circle in the Kentucky on the schedule. Like we
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: are doing for them. They are looking down on us.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: That is why like, I love a college football win for,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: I mean, for Kentucky Phil's, 10 times as good as
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: a regular season basketball win.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: So it is one, a one B. And then for me,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: it's probably like major league baseball. Then the NFL. Oh, really? Oh, wow.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Well, I'm a dolphins fan. It doesn't get, it doesn't,
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: it really doesn't get very much.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: We'll see. I've grown up loving the worst teams in
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: all of sports, Kentucky football, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: And then Tampa Bay Rays after that. I mean, that's
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: my fandom. My teams lose on a consistent basis for
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: not just a few years, many years. It's been kind
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: of fun seeing the Bucs play well. It's really fun
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: seeing the underdog Tampa Bay Rays just kill all these teams.
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: They almost swept the Atlanta Braves this week. And that's
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: been fun. And then my lowly University of Kentucky football team,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I'm not going to apologize for it, and
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I'm not sorry. I have probably been 1A UK football,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: 1B UK basketball. That's me right there in the nutshell.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Well, I got to go to games. I got to
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: go to Kentucky football games as a kid. You just
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: couldn't get tickets to Kentucky basketball.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, my parents had season tickets and it's like, well,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: but these nine o'clock games are killing me. So my
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: dad gave them up. It's like, oh my gosh, why
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: did you do that? I'm not going to get home
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: in the middle of a work week at 2 a.m.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: And that's where I've always been jealous of my UofL
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: friends that just have to drive 20, 30 minutes, and
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: then they're back home at an easy hour.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: But there is nothing like driving down 64 East on
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: a Saturday in the fall, going to see Kentucky play Tennessee,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: thinking it could happen.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: This could be the year it happens. Right. There used
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: to be a guy on I-64 right there at Simpsonville,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I think it was, or Shelbyville. that would put a
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: sign out on I-64 that said, entering big blue country. Oh, really?
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I love that. And it was a homemade sign. And
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: he put it out there every single Saturday. And I thought,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: that is so cool. I loved it. Yeah, it gives
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: me cold chills right now. Thinking about my entire family
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: going to Lexington. And we would go hours ahead of
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: the game. Enjoy ourselves tailgating. And there would be a
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: lot of times we'd be the only people there. Yeah.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Nobody else is telling you, but we're with my family.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: It was a big family event. Oh, when I was
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: getting into sports, it was Tim couch, Craig East.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah. I was flipping the ball over my shoulder,
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: scoring touchdowns in the backyard, reenacting.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Just like Jared Lorenzen. Just like Craig East.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: And the Alabama game. Oh, the game winning touchdown in
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: overtime when he flips it over his shoulder. And, and, um, man, I, I,
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: my dad was at that game in 97. And, uh, I, I,
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: that was the same year I got to meet Tim
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: couch and I've, became a big-time Kentucky football fan.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: There was this VHS tape that they put out. It
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: was called Air.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: VHS! Air Raid 98, I think it was. And I
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: just wore the tape out on it. I just watched
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: that tape over and over and over. And, yeah, so
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: tomorrow is going to be a special day. It's so
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: crazy that Will Stein is the head coach, and seeing
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: him come out in a 3.30 kickoff on national TV,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: the biggest game of... of the season so far. And
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: this is one of like, I predicted them to go
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: eight and four just because why not? Did you really? Well,
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: I looked at the schedule. I said, there's a bunch
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: of toss up games. What if they won all of them?
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: They'll go eight and four. Now I don't.
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Gun to my head. You sound like John Wong now.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Gun to my head, I don't think that's going to...
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: I fully expect Alabama to win this game tomorrow. But
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: I did predict Kentucky to pull off the upset. And again,
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: as I had to explain to Trevor on my show,
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: I'm picking an upset. This is an upset pick. I
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: fully expect Alabama... to be the better team. I'm saying
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: that if Kentucky gets some one out of 10 times,
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: this could be the, this'll be the one time. The
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: stars are going to align. We're going to rush the field.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: We're going to celebrate on state street.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: It's going to be an awesome day. You've already predicted
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: that you think this is a goal tearing down event.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah. If they win, if they win tomorrow, is
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: it really there?
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: The goalposts? Well, they'll, they'll lay the goalposts down, but
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: the fans will be on the.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Come on. Jay Bat needs to let the fans come
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: down there and celebrates. Take the goalpost out, throw them
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: in what's the closest river. Yeah, exactly. Just because, you know,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: that was huge for Vanderbilt. I mean, my wife who
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: went to Vanderbilt, she still refers to that game. What
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: a great event that was. And now. Besides Alabama, we
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: don't need to do that for anybody else except maybe
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: one team, or do you think it's still deserved at
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: a couple of more teams? What do you think is,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: what are the wins, signature wins that UK football could
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: have where goalposts should be coming down? Well, now it's
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: like if you beat a number one team. like that
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: might be like they but we we stormed the field
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: in 07 but yeah i think we're running out of
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: opportunities to rush the field we're not going to do
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: it if if they beat tennessee anytime soon no uh
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: why wouldn't finally beat florida several now beating florida is
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: almost expected exactly done that like what three yes three
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: out of the last four years so uh.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: See i said georgia georgia yeah That's it. That's Georgia.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Because we didn't beat them at home since 2006, right?
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Yes, correct. So, yeah, I think you're right. We tore
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: the goalposts down that day, too. Yeah. I agree. Loudest
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Commonwealth Stadium's ever been in your lifetime, Steven Peake?
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Florida 2021. I was up in the stands that game
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: and it was rocking and actually like the ground was
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: moving underneath my feet when Wallace returned the block kick
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: for a touchdown. And I bet my head was spinning.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: Like it was just, there was all this noise. And
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: like I said, it felt like a minor earthquake was
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: happening that I criticize our game day presentation. If you've
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: listened to Kentucky roll call, you've heard me do it.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: And TJ and I have argued about it, but when
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: it's a big game, You don't have to worry about it.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: Kentucky fans care about this.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: One of the few teams in the SEC, one of
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: the few programs that genuinely care about their top two sports.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: I agree. I mean, we show up obviously for basketball,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: but we show up for football too. We sure do.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I think it's probably one of them. And I know
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I'm biased. Justin's going to roll his eye in a minute.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: But I think that UK is probably one of the
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: more underrated football fan bases in the SEC. 100%. A
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: hundred percent.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: And because everybody shows up for their teams when they're winning,
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: like when it's a program, of course.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Correct.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: I think Tennessee is the closest. I mean, it's Tennessee
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: and Kentucky. And that's why I think it's a great
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: rivalry because Tennessee fans obviously care about football, but they
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: really care about basketball too.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: They put 20,000 people for their games and bowling. Alabama
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: is a great basketball program, and I've gone there to
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: cover games they play against Kentucky, and there have been
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: like several hundred to a thousand empty seats.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: And I'm one of those few people that actually like
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Nate Oates. I love Nate Oates. I would have loved
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: to have had him come to Kentucky. I love him
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: when he's the Kentucky basketball coach. Before we take a break,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: let's talk a little bit more about basketball before we
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: get into it, because I want to say the last
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: segment for only football. Okay, fair enough. What are you
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: thinking about this? We're just a little over three weeks
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: out from Big Blue Madness. What are you thinking? What
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: is your perception of this basketball team? Did you see
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Jeff Goodman's? I was getting ready to bring it up.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: So they brought up on field of 68 their grades
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: yesterday of how Mark Pope did on the offseason. Jeff
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Goodman gave him a C plus. And what's the other
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: guy's name? Gave him a B minus. Yeah. Rob. Yes. Yeah. Yes.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: I think that's absolutely 100 percent fair. And I know
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: that the guys I work with, the KSR, were apoplectic
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: about it.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: They were robbed. Rob Douster.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they were saying like, how do you there's no
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: way you can. Brandon Ramsey, one of the guys, he said,
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: there's no way you can give it a C plus.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: If you give this a C plus, nobody can have
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: an A. And I argued with Brandon, who I will
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: freely admit, Brandon Ramsey, much.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: He knows ball. better than I do.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: But my argument is I'm not saying the team is
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: a C plus. I'm saying the off season was a
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: C plus. Uh, I like Mark Pope. I think he
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: can figure this out and I think he can, he
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: can hang a banner in Rupp arena.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: Absolutely. 100%. This was a C plus.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: This was, you nearly messed up the zoom Diallo thing
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: because you went after Rob Wright and you missed, you
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: went after Donnie Freeman and you missed, you got lucky.
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: He's out for the season for St.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: John's.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: So thankfully you didn't get them. Um, went after several
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: guys and missed. And it felt like, well, you're kind
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: of settling for your third and second, third and fourth
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: picks here. But the team that he ended up with
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: is actually pretty good.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: But can they play together? I think so. I think so.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: You're right. This was a championship team with Mark Mitchell.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: The stats, well, I'm not going that far. It would
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: have been a much better team. But can this team
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: play together? Is Mark Pope the guy? Because that's the
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: one thing John Calipari was so good at. He was
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: the greatest psychologist out there, bar none. He could bring
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: all kinds of personalities, egos together as one. Mm-hmm. I'm
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: not convinced Mark Pope can do that. No, because he
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: failed at it last year. Correct.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: Now, his first year's team, I felt like most of
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: those guys, if not all, bought in.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: Now, from what I've heard, and granted, I don't think
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: any coaches are going to run to media guys in
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: the preseason and say, these guys just don't like each other,
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: and it's going to be a disaster. But from what
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: we've heard, they like each other. They're all living in
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: the lodge. They're playing video games together. That was the
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: one thing about, like, when you throw in Mark Mitchell,
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: does it mess up any of that?
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: No, it doesn't.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Take Mark Mitchell and hope they figure out the chemistry
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: stuff later. But chemistry is huge in sports, and I
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: think it gets overlooked.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: And you're right.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: A lot of what Calipari did and the reason he
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: was so successful and the reason he really is a
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: great coach, and a lot of people want to point
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: to his X's and O's, he's a great coach because
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: he gets these guys to buy in and play as
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: one unit and not individually.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: But that's only one ingredient for a successful team. I agree.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: Because I still think he's not that great of an
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: X's and O's coach. No, but that's what I'm saying.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Roby was who brought that together. 100%.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: And Cal admitted it as much. And if you read
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: his book, Players First, he talks about how John Robic
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: is the X's and O's guy. So it was never
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: controversial to say that John Robic was the brains behind
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: the operation.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: And as soon as he left, it was kind of
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: all over. Kind of like with Denny Crumb, if you
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: want to go back to Denny Crumb days. As soon
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: as Wade Houston left, it's kind of over for Denny Crump.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Adolph Rupp had one of those guys too, but I'm
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: blanking on his name. He had a, it's funny reading
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: the book about Adolph Rupp and like how he had these, uh,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: this analytics guy, basically they didn't call him an analytics guy,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: but he was like, he kept track of stats and
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: where they shot on the floor. And that became part
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: of Rupp's strategy. When that guy left, Rupp stopped winning championships.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: So yeah, there's, it's those guys, the head guys are
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: the marketing guys. Yeah.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: I feel like, and the, as you said, the, the, the, the, uh,
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: counselor almost like just get everybody on the same page,
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: get them fired up, figure out ways to inspire them.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: And that's what a head coach is good at. And
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: then you have the actual brains behind the operation.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Exactly. Exactly. All right. We got to take our last break.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: If you recognize the voice, it's Steven peak from Kentucky
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: roll call. He has been kind enough to join us today.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: I got to tell you, this has been fun. Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: All right. Let's say, and by the way, Justin.
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: Sounds like he reads a lot of books, too. Yeah,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: he's kind of a book nerd. Yeah, my gosh. He
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: needs a little something else to do besides reading books. Anyway,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: stay right there. One more segment coming up in just
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: a second.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: Sweet dreams are made of these.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Who am I to disagree? I travel the world.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: On seven seas. Everybody's looking for something.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: Sweet dreams are made of these.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: All right, Steven Peake, as we come to our last segment,
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: I'm going to tell you again.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Thoroughly enjoyed this i mean i hope we get to
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: do this again yeah maybe justin you think i'll get
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: invited to krc one day probably not exactly that's kind
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: of how i know you got it you got to
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: come on are you available from peak don't do it
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: don't do it him and him and trevor are like
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: two peas in a pod and it's gonna be exhausting
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: for you No, it won't. Can you host it one day?
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: Can you just host KRC? Sure, if you want me
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: to host it, I'd be glad. I'm always, listen, if
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: I'm in town, I'm available. Okay. So, yeah. What's your number?
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: Can you just tell me your number over the air
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: real fast so I can? Yeah, 502.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: What would be funny? What if I gave out, like,
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Matt Jones' number as my phone number? No, I won't
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: do that. Ryan Lemon had his number sent out a
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: few times. Yeah, I'll be glad. Let's give Drew's out. No,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: let's give Shannon's phone number out over the air. That's
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: who I would like to get back at is Shannon
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: the dude. Does he follow you on social media? Does
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: he follow you on Twitter? Shannon? Yeah.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: I'm still working on that. Day one, we're going to
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: make it happen by the end of the season. Day
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: one of getting Shannon the Dude to follow me back
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: on Twitter.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: The one joke I've always wanted to play on the
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: radio is Shannon and I conspire with each other, and
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: we share the same subject matter and talk about it
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: at the same time on the radio. Oh, that would
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: be cool. I always thought that would be fun, that
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: we have the exact same show on two different stations.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Except for he probably doesn't squirrel the way you do.
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: No.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: No, Shannon, he would always yell at me. Are we
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: going to talk about UK or sports at all? He
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: would always yell at me, either on or off the air.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: It didn't matter which. He'd tell me, we got to
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: talk about this. Anyway, I loved working with him. No
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: offense to you, Justin, but I miss working with him.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: I love that guy. I'll get him back here. Patrick
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: texted out, two great Kentucky personalities meet. What a day.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Am I a great personality? I don't know about that.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: What if Michael can come on Thursdays for trivia? Then
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: I can meet Michael, too. Who's Patrick?
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: Patrick Murphy. He runs the scoreboard for our trivia on Thursdays.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: really yeah so with cory price ah okay so yeah
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: you should come in you should come in and host
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: uh trivia with the questions and how'd y'all end up
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: doing yesterday oh we did horrible yeah yeah i heard
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: the beginning of it it was wasn't good our record
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: is 14 out of 20 yesterday i think we got
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: 9 out of 20 but that's not we turned it
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: on late we were bad good recovery i love trivia
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Corey Price.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: You know Corey Price. No, I've never met him. Who
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: is he?
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: So he is like Kentucky's statistician. Listen, he buys everything
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: I say. He's on with us every Tuesday.
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: Thanks for listening.
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: No, okay.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: It's twice. He got me with the Jack Pilgrim one too. Exactly.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: Will Stein, do you know? Yeah, exactly.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: Do you have a Will Stein's phone number? You're very
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: good at, yeah, but you're very good at the selling
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: off that you don't. I was like, because, yeah, of course,
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: because I know that Corey does the same.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: He asks you the same questions. I know you don't.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: It's okay. I know because he tells me. Okay, there
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: you go. Yeah, I've known Corey for a little bit,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: and I love Corey. Uh, 48 Hanley said the crumb
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Houston scenario. Wasn't about a drop off in X's and O's.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: It was primarily a recruiting drop off. I agree with
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: you there. Uh, 48 Hanley, uh, Houston was one of
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: the top recruiters in the country. Come, uh, crumb played,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: for Wooden, and he knew the X's and O's. You're
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: right about that. It was the recruiting. For Crum? For Crum. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Because they would have had Allen Houston at UofL instead
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: of him going to Tennessee. I've always wondered if Allen
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: regretted not going to UofL.
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: Yeah, when you sign up to play basketball at Tennessee,
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: you are signing up for basketball. you know, an elite
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: eight at best because they're not allowed to go to
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: final fours.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: I think that Denny Crum just for whatever reason did
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: not want to adopt the three-point shot into his strategy.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: So that's the one X's and O's thing you can make.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: And they'd hurt recruiting, I think, like just not wanting
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: to play the modern game. I mean, a lot of
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: these coaches who have success. And you can say that
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: about Tubby Smith.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: You can say that about Calipari. Like it took him
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: a long time to be like, look, Cal, people are
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: playing a spread out offense.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: Dabo Sweeney. You want to talk about football? Is Dabo
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Sweeney the football version of John Calipari? Absolutely. Except to,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: I think it's that situation on steroids. Yeah, they hate
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: him now. Did you see the tweet that Paul Feinbaum,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: I'm not a Paul Feinbaum. He said, you know, we're
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: watching it and he hates to see what's happening to
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Dabo Sweeney.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: He, because of, I mean, he's fine. He's going to
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: be fine.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: I understand.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: He Clemson was like on the same level as Kentucky football.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: Like not that long ago. They're playing music city bowls.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Exactly. Rich Brooks played him down there and beat them.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden Clemson's this big powerhouse.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: It's like, wait a minute. Kentucky just beat them. Yeah.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: Not that long ago. Why are they the big one
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: in Kentucky? It's not a hundred percent.
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: And they just, they took off and he won some
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: championships and then you don't, I don't know where I
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: heard this, but it made a lot of sense to me.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: You do not live on the mountaintop. You visit it
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: and then you come back down. And that is what
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: Calipari did in the 2010s. It's what Dabo did. You
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: don't get to be even Nick Saban started. to fall
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: off towards the end, and he got out.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: And Mike Krzyzewski. And Coach K, yeah, got at Final Four,
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: and he's done. And so, yeah, Rick Pitino left on
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: the mountaintop with Kentucky.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: But he couldn't stay up there. Man, I would have
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: loved to have seen him stay another five or so years.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: I still think he would have gotten... at least a
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: couple of more championships without a doubt. And I think
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: he would fully admit that.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: I think if he'd have came back to Kentucky a
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: few years ago, we may have no banner. And if he,
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: if he did five years at the end of his career,
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: I said, that guy is still just like a recruiting machine.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: Everybody wants to play for Rick. People love Rick Patino.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: It's all right. Football tomorrow. Yes. Games at three 30, uh, Alabama, Kentucky. Uh,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: what's going to be your prediction for this game? We
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: are going to storm the field. I hesitate to say it.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: I feel like we're all picking this upset because we're
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: just trying to talk it into existence.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: He's so excited about it. He's already breaking the microphones
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: over here, Justin. That's fine.
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: But there are real reasons to have high expectations just
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: for this game. I look at this schedule, and I
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: think you can go 4-8 and 5-7 and still have
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: a really good football team that just lost some close games.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Will's going to make mistakes. I mean, it's the
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: first time head coach. Absolutely. There's going to be a
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: time tomorrow where we're going to be like, what were
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: we doing there? Yeah. But I bet game time clock
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: management is pretty good. I would hope that, yeah, that
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: got better. Timeouts are going to be used in an
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: appropriate way.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: Doesn't it drive you crazy when a coach uses two
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: third quarter timeouts? Just take a five-yard penalty at this point.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: No way you'll need those in the final minutes of
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: But, no, I think that it's going to be– I
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: feel like I'm just repeating what everybody has been saying
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: all week. But this is what it's lining up to be,
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: a high-scoring, high-octane, fun game of football that is going
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: to be memorable one way or the other. I think
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: it's either going to be Will Stein's introductory to the SEC,
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: as Scoot said, where you.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Could lose 49-28.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: And still feel kind of decent about the future of
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: the program because you're scoring points.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: I think it could also be a day we remember
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: for the rest of our lives. Wow. Okay. Uh, well,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: it's certainly already a day we're going to remember for
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: the rest of our lives, but, uh, unfortunately with the
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: nine 11, but, uh, It'll be nice 9-12. We celebrate
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: something good. We have a bad day the day before
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: and a great day the next day. That's right. I've
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: had that many times. All right, Justin, go ahead. Alabama's 9-11.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Let's get the– ah, I like that. Let's go ahead
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: and get your ridiculous– because nobody's really going to pay
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: attention to you, but go ahead and tell us your prediction.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: Peak had the right spread at 49-28, but I think
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: it's going to be a little low score than that.
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: I'm going 38-70. Oh, really? Are you in favor of Kentucky?
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Don't you? He's picking Kentucky. I love that. Sure. I'm not. Yeah.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: You all don't want 38, 35 Kentucky. I didn't give a, no, exactly.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: You know, you do not want Justin picking Kentucky ever
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: to win a game. Okay. Fade, fade scoots. 9.9 times
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: out of 10. He's always wrong. Exactly. So, uh, but I,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: unfortunately I kind of, i'm on justin's side here i
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: hate to say it i i my heart is there
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: yeah i want this win so bad i want kentucky
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: football to be back 2018 was uh was so much
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: fun and i want those years every year and it'd
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: be nice to have football and basketball doing well every
