Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. Over
• 0:04
Speaker 1: the past year or so since Charlie Kirk was murdered,
• 0:07
Speaker 1: there have been a lot of questions and a lot
• 0:09
Speaker 1: of suggestions about what happened on that campus. Well, now
• 0:14
Speaker 1: we have a 158 page report that was commissioned by
• 0:19
Speaker 1: the university and the idea was to try and figure
• 0:22
Speaker 1: out what sort of lapses or breakdowns occurred that allowed
• 0:26
Speaker 1: something like this to even happen. And some of the
• 0:30
Speaker 1: findings in that report are pretty damning. So what we're
• 0:35
Speaker 1: going to do today is we're going to dive into
• 0:37
Speaker 1: an article from the New York Post. And then we're
• 0:41
Speaker 1: going to dive into that report itself. That way you
• 0:44
Speaker 1: folks can see or hear for yourself what the report says.
• 0:48
Speaker 1: Instead of a bunch of people telling you what it says.
• 0:51
Speaker 1: Because as you all know, there are a lot of
• 0:53
Speaker 1: agendas when it comes to this topic specifically. And cutting
• 0:56
Speaker 1: through all the noise and getting to the facts... has
• 0:59
Speaker 1: not exactly been an easy task. So having this independent
• 1:03
Speaker 1: report be available is certainly a good resource to see
• 1:07
Speaker 1: what the narrative is, at least from this official point
• 1:10
Speaker 1: of view. So with that said, why don't we just
• 1:12
Speaker 1: dive right into this article. And this article was published
• 1:17
Speaker 1: by the New York Post and the headline, Charlie Kirk
• 1:20
Speaker 1: assassination report highlights several security failures at Utah Valley University.
• 1:25
Speaker 1: This article was authored by Victor Nava. Utah Valley University
• 1:30
Speaker 1: did not have a robust security plan in place and
• 1:33
Speaker 1: failed to properly follow its own guidelines for major events
• 1:37
Speaker 1: on the day that Charlie Kirk was assassinated on the
• 1:39
Speaker 1: school's campus, according to an independent report on the shooting
• 1:43
Speaker 1: released on Friday. Well, that's not good. You want to
• 1:47
Speaker 1: talk about lawsuits? You want to talk about ending up
• 1:50
Speaker 1: holding the bag? That's how you end up holding the bag.
• 1:54
Speaker 1: The 158-page independent review of the events surrounding The September 10th,
• 1:58
Speaker 1: 2025 assassination of the TPUSA founder determined that nobody at
• 2:03
Speaker 1: the university acted in bad faith or in willful and
• 2:07
Speaker 1: wanton disregard for the safety of others. I'm not too
• 2:10
Speaker 1: hip on all of the conspiracy theories surrounding this, but
• 2:14
Speaker 1: was there somebody saying that the university was in on it?
• 2:18
Speaker 1: They set it up or whatever? Is that one of
• 2:20
Speaker 1: the ongoing theories along with Egyptian planes and Bigfoot and chupacabras?
• 2:27
Speaker 1: Because I have to tell you It's all ridiculous. Now,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: I'm not saying that there isn't anything goofy going on here.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: There certainly is. But does that mean there's some vast
• 2:37
Speaker 1: cover-up involving other nations and the full force of the
• 2:41
Speaker 1: American government? I highly doubt it. And up until this point,
• 2:45
Speaker 1: I certainly don't see any signs of it. Now, again,
• 2:49
Speaker 1: we're still very early on. And this dude has just
• 2:51
Speaker 1: been binded over for trial. Things can change. And things
• 2:56
Speaker 1: will change. Now, does that mean that it's going to
• 2:59
Speaker 1: end up being something like, you know, we get evidence
• 3:02
Speaker 1: that proves Tyler Robinson is not the guy? Maybe. I
• 3:06
Speaker 1: don't find it to be likely, but it's possible. And
• 3:10
Speaker 1: I'm here for it. Wherever the evidence takes us, that's
• 3:13
Speaker 1: where we'll go. And when I have an opinion about something,
• 3:15
Speaker 1: I'll let you know that it's an opinion. Because it's
• 3:18
Speaker 1: important to differentiate what's opinion, what's speculation, and what's fact.
• 3:23
Speaker 1: But the report identified several eyebrow-raising decisions by school officials
• 3:28
Speaker 1: that warrant attention, as UVU considers how to strengthen the
• 3:31
Speaker 1: safety and security of campus events in the future. And
• 3:35
Speaker 1: anytime you have one of these situations occur, there's going
• 3:39
Speaker 1: to be reactionary responses. And there's going to be reports.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: People are going to be clamoring to figure out what
• 3:44
Speaker 1: happened and how they can try and fix it the
• 3:46
Speaker 1: next time. And that's all fine and well, but it
• 3:48
Speaker 1: certainly doesn't help Charlie Kirk, does it? The September 10th
• 3:52
Speaker 1: TPUSA event presented several characteristics that warranted a more formal
• 3:56
Speaker 1: event security planning process. The report stated, noting that Kirk
• 4:00
Speaker 1: was a high-profile speaker, there was anticipated protest activity, uncertainty
• 4:05
Speaker 1: about how many people were attending, and the event was
• 4:08
Speaker 1: taking place outdoors near elevated vantage points. And unfortunately, in
• 4:13
Speaker 1: this day and age, all of that has to be
• 4:15
Speaker 1: taken into account. Never mind the fact that there's drones
• 4:18
Speaker 1: and all kinds of other shit that can be involved.
• 4:21
Speaker 1: So it's important if you have somebody that's giving a
• 4:24
Speaker 1: speech on your property to have the proper security, right?
• 4:28
Speaker 1: And if you have elevated positions, there has to be
• 4:31
Speaker 1: something that negates that. Whether you have your own counter
• 4:34
Speaker 1: snipers or whatever, you have to do what you got
• 4:37
Speaker 1: to do. And if you're not capable of providing the
• 4:41
Speaker 1: security required, you can't hold the event. And if you
• 4:44
Speaker 1: do hold the event and something like this happens, you're
• 4:47
Speaker 1: going to be left holding the bag. Although some coordination
• 4:50
Speaker 1: occurred among university stakeholders, UVU PD, UVU Event Services, and
• 4:57
Speaker 1: TPUSA representatives, the club event was not supported by a
• 5:01
Speaker 1: comprehensive written security assessment or event action plan, investigators found.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: Now look, Charlie Kirk's somebody that obviously was getting death threats,
• 5:10
Speaker 1: somebody that had political enemies. Why wasn't his team more involved, right?
• 5:15
Speaker 1: Why weren't they more adamant about this being a secure environment?
• 5:20
Speaker 1: Now look, I'm not saying that his team was in
• 5:22
Speaker 1: on it and they, you know, assassinated Charlie Kirk. But
• 5:26
Speaker 1: obviously mistakes were made. And in the wake of what
• 5:28
Speaker 1: happened to Charlie Kirk, questions are going to be asked.
• 5:32
Speaker 1: The report noted that the outdoor location for the Kirk
• 5:34
Speaker 1: event was surrounded by buildings, elevated areas, pedestrian routes, and
• 5:39
Speaker 1: multiple vantage points, making line of sight assessment, elevated position review,
• 5:44
Speaker 1: building access control, arrival and departure planning, crowd control, protest management,
• 5:50
Speaker 1: and fixed post assignments especially important. While some concerns were
• 5:54
Speaker 1: recognized and responded to by university personnel, the planning process
• 5:59
Speaker 1: did not include several critical measures, including a line of
• 6:02
Speaker 1: sight assessment, protective operation considerations, pre-event briefing, structured walkthrough, with
• 6:08
Speaker 1: all key security stakeholder. And that's crazy. As somebody that
• 6:13
Speaker 1: was in charge of events for a long time here
• 6:15
Speaker 1: in Las Vegas, no pre-event briefing? The first thing I
• 6:19
Speaker 1: did was get with security. Like when we would get
• 6:22
Speaker 1: a band to come through, I would get with security
• 6:24
Speaker 1: right away. Yo, look, here's what we got. Here's who's
• 6:27
Speaker 1: going to be here. And here's what we can expect.
• 6:29
Speaker 1: And then we'd have another briefing with the actual road crew.
• 6:33
Speaker 1: So we'd bring the production in, their security in, and
• 6:36
Speaker 1: we'd have our whole game plan set. So it's crazy
• 6:40
Speaker 1: to me that there was no walkthrough or pre-event briefing.
• 6:43
Speaker 1: That is wild. There was also no clear coordination process
• 6:48
Speaker 1: with Kirk's private security team or external law enforcement. Who's
• 6:52
Speaker 1: the production manager here? That's the real question for me. Like,
• 6:56
Speaker 1: who's in charge of TPUSA's production? Because they should have
• 6:59
Speaker 1: done this with the pre-production call. Hey, look, here's our requirements.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: I need this, that, the other thing. And obviously that
• 7:06
Speaker 1: didn't happen, at least according to this report. So if
• 7:10
Speaker 1: you want to blame TPUSA for something, that's certainly something
• 7:13
Speaker 1: that you could chalk up as a big-time mistake. Because
• 7:17
Speaker 1: if you're going to set up an event and you're
• 7:19
Speaker 1: going to be the one who's planning it, you're the
• 7:21
Speaker 1: production behind it. Everything's up to you. Security, sound, fucking drinks,
• 7:26
Speaker 1: all of it. But again, just to be clear, that
• 7:29
Speaker 1: doesn't mean that they all sat around and came up
• 7:31
Speaker 1: with a plot to kill Charlie Kirk. But it does mean,
• 7:34
Speaker 1: in my opinion, that a security team was probably negligent.
• 7:39
Speaker 1: The original day of security posture planned for only three
• 7:42
Speaker 1: university law enforcement officers securing the event. which was attended
• 7:46
Speaker 1: by several thousand people. Well, that's never good either, okay?
• 7:51
Speaker 1: And any event that we used to have at the
• 7:53
Speaker 1: Hard Rock, we'd have a security as well as Metropolitan Police.
• 7:59
Speaker 1: You know, the hotel would pay for them to come and,
• 8:01
Speaker 1: you know, staff the event, make sure everything went off
• 8:03
Speaker 1: the right way. And that was all done during pre-production.
• 8:07
Speaker 1: And again, that's what I think the issue is here.
• 8:09
Speaker 1: I don't think TPUSA has the proper production team. And
• 8:14
Speaker 1: when you don't have the proper production team, you're screwed.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: Everything's going to be a pain in the balls. Everything's
• 8:20
Speaker 1: going to be a nightmare. And unfortunately, when it comes
• 8:23
Speaker 1: to what happened to Charlie Kirk, it was even worse.
• 8:26
Speaker 1: I mean, we're not talking about some mistakes on the
• 8:28
Speaker 1: rider here. Oh, you don't have my M & Ms.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: Where are my peanuts? We're talking about a man who
• 8:34
Speaker 1: got shot. And I think that there is plenty of
• 8:37
Speaker 1: room to take a look at everybody involved. Because in
• 8:40
Speaker 1: situations like this, you have to get that HD view.
• 8:44
Speaker 1: And everybody has to be looked at. And not just
• 8:46
Speaker 1: from a criminal perspective, but from this sort of perspective too.
• 8:50
Speaker 1: What could have been done? In what way could we
• 8:52
Speaker 1: have mitigated this and made the event safer? But three
• 8:56
Speaker 1: university law enforcement officers, that's it? That is a gigantic failure.
• 9:03
Speaker 1: The number was up to six when the university police
• 9:05
Speaker 1: chief noticed the size of the crowd, according to the report.
• 9:09
Speaker 1: Investigators also found that the university deferred critical decision-making, including
• 9:13
Speaker 1: where to hold the event, to TPUSA staff. That is terrible.
• 9:19
Speaker 1: And look, I'm going to tell you right now, TPUSA
• 9:22
Speaker 1: certainly deserves some criticism, and they deserve to be looked into.
• 9:26
Speaker 1: And if they were negligent, which it certainly looks like
• 9:28
Speaker 1: they were, then they need to be held to account.
• 9:33
Speaker 1: The organization also wanted to use its own ticketing process
• 9:37
Speaker 1: rather than the universities, which prevented school officials from knowing
• 9:40
Speaker 1: exactly how many people would be attending the event. Yo,
• 9:44
Speaker 1: this is why production is so important. I don't mean
• 9:46
Speaker 1: to harp on it, but it's super important. All of
• 9:49
Speaker 1: that has to be done prior to the event. That's
• 9:53
Speaker 1: what you do the advance for. Like, holy shit, man.
• 9:59
Speaker 1: In our assessment, though, decisions were consequential the report said
• 10:02
Speaker 1: the university's actions were significantly inconsistent with its policies for
• 10:07
Speaker 1: major events it added the report noted that TP USA
• 10:11
Speaker 1: and Kirk security team did not participate in the review
• 10:15
Speaker 1: like what why wouldn't you want to be part of
• 10:18
Speaker 1: the review oh that's right You don't want to be
• 10:21
Speaker 1: held accountable. Got it. And you know that TPUSA, they're
• 10:25
Speaker 1: going to point every finger they have at UVU. And
• 10:28
Speaker 1: the same is going to go back to TPUSA. And
• 10:30
Speaker 1: it's going to become a shit show. Earlier this month,
• 10:35
Speaker 1: the Kirk family issued a wrongful death notice to the
• 10:37
Speaker 1: university signaling a potential lawsuit against the school was forthcoming.
• 10:42
Speaker 1: And it's going to be CYA now. Cover your ass.
• 10:45
Speaker 1: Everyone's running for the exits. Nobody wants to get left
• 10:48
Speaker 1: in a burning building. So everybody's going to try and
• 10:51
Speaker 1: sue everybody else. The notice accused the school of reckless decisions,
• 10:55
Speaker 1: including not having emergency first responders, which allegedly hasten Kirk's death.
• 11:00
Speaker 1: And that's another thing. Where's the fire marshal? Did the
• 11:03
Speaker 1: fire marshal come and do a walkthrough and make sure
• 11:06
Speaker 1: everything was good? Because the fire marshal surely was showing
• 11:10
Speaker 1: up at my events. And you better believe everything better
• 11:13
Speaker 1: be on point. Three feet in the aisles, no boxes
• 11:16
Speaker 1: in front of door, the whole thing. So for me,
• 11:20
Speaker 1: looking at it from a production standpoint, I'm blown away
• 11:23
Speaker 1: with how terrible this all was. And you would think
• 11:26
Speaker 1: that TPUSA, that, you know, they're on the road all
• 11:28
Speaker 1: the time, that they'd have their production locked in. And
• 11:32
Speaker 1: if they don't, maybe they should hire an outside production
• 11:34
Speaker 1: manager that knows what they're doing. And if they need
• 11:37
Speaker 1: some help finding somebody, I can point them in the
• 11:39
Speaker 1: right direction. Because this shit right here is piss poor.
• 11:43
Speaker 1: The buck stopped with UVU leadership and law enforcement, family
• 11:46
Speaker 1: attorney Brett Parkinson said in a statement obtained by the
• 11:50
Speaker 1: Associated Press. Justice for Charlie and his family requires true
• 11:54
Speaker 1: accountability for UVU's fatal shortcomings that day. And look, hey,
• 11:59
Speaker 1: it's an argument to be had. But I think the
• 12:01
Speaker 1: production issues from TPUSA have to be discussed as well.
• 12:07
Speaker 1: And I think there's a lot of blame to go
• 12:08
Speaker 1: around here. Utah Valley President John Anderson said in a
• 12:13
Speaker 1: statement that the school has a responsibility to learn from
• 12:16
Speaker 1: the findings of this review and follow through on its recommendations.
• 12:21
Speaker 1: He added that the university has made meaningful progress in
• 12:24
Speaker 1: strengthening campus safety over the past year. Well, hey, look,
• 12:27
Speaker 1: that's great. That's all fine and well. But there was
• 12:31
Speaker 1: obviously a gigantic fuck up here. And now the argument is,
• 12:34
Speaker 1: who is more at fault? And over the coming months,
• 12:37
Speaker 1: that argument is certainly going to expand. And as the
• 12:40
Speaker 1: argument expands, so will our coverage, because there's going to
• 12:44
Speaker 1: be a lot to get to and a lot of
• 12:45
Speaker 1: ground to cover. And as that journey continues, we'll be
• 12:48
Speaker 1: here every step of the way. All the information that
• 12:52
Speaker 1: goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
