- 0:25Speaker 4: it done?
- 0:27Speaker 2: It's Vincent in Wilmington, North Carolina. We are watching Bill
- 0:30Speaker 2: and the success of the Patriots whither away, Nate Wright.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Since defense is going to be fine, it was fine
- 0:35Speaker 2: last year. I love the secondary as is. They make
- 0:38Speaker 2: plays and Bill will make sure it causes chaos for
- 0:42Speaker 2: opposing offenses.
- 0:44Speaker 5: Don't ever change Patriots. It's like back goes, back to
- 0:46Speaker 5: back emails, say everything you need.

- 1:15Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:20Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:25Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, Tuesday, post draft, so we'll be uh
- 1:29Speaker 2: getting all our post draft reactions from Deuce and Alex
- 1:33Speaker 2: and Evan, Paul, myself, Matt and Nabooth. We got lunch
- 1:38Speaker 2: brought to us at Jersey Mike's from who Who's who
- 1:41Speaker 2: bought lunch today?
- 1:42Speaker 3: Kevin and San Francisco.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Kevin and San Francisco. Thank you, Kevin, MVP Kevine.
- 1:46Speaker 5: I love you.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So we're gonna uh somehow get that food here.
- 1:49Speaker 3: But Fate's gonna effort that for us.
- 1:51Speaker 6: Ye.
- 1:51Speaker 2: The problem is it's only a Jersey Mikes in San
- 1:54Speaker 2: Francisco that we can get it from.
- 1:55Speaker 5: That's a long trip. It's gonna be a long deliver. Faith.
- 1:58Speaker 4: You've got to have faith for that kind of See
- 2:00Speaker 4: you next week.
- 2:02Speaker 5: All right.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So here we are, Tuesday, after the draft. How are
- 2:07Speaker 2: we feeling? You know anything? You know, now that we've
- 2:10Speaker 2: been able to digest all of this thoughts, anyone.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I'll jump in. I feel good. I don't feel great.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I don't feel like overwhelming, like I think they nailed it.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I think there's some intrigue, but you know, I think
- 2:23Speaker 3: there's definitely some questions about these guys. The three things
- 2:26Speaker 3: I think will define this class is how good can
- 2:28Speaker 3: Gonzales be, can key on White actually be like a
- 2:31Speaker 3: three down problem? And to one of those two receivers develop,
- 2:35Speaker 3: And those are kind of the questions for me that
- 2:37Speaker 3: those three things will probably determine whether or not this
- 2:39Speaker 3: draft class was a hit. A couple guys I'm excited
- 2:42Speaker 3: to see out on the field in a couple of weeks.
- 2:43Speaker 3: But uh yeah, that's that's kind of where I'm at.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I don't I guess luke warm. I guess would be
- 2:47Speaker 3: would be it, which I guess you should generally be
- 2:50Speaker 3: for a draft anyway, you don't know exactly what you
- 2:51Speaker 3: got till you get a glimpse of these guys. But
- 2:54Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm still a little bit, you know,
- 2:55Speaker 3: disappointed that they missed out on some of you know,
- 2:58Speaker 3: just I think, as Evan kind of alluded to, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 3: just a real needle mover on offense. They didn't get
- 3:02Speaker 3: one of those barring one of those six rounders, surprising everybody.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Anyone else?
- 3:09Speaker 7: I feel great?
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you feel great?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I.
- 3:12Speaker 7: Mean I feel like we're the most positive sports narrative
- 3:15Speaker 7: in Boston right now.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Wow, Red Red Sox, true, right, let's go right, two
- 3:21Speaker 4: games above five hundred.
- 3:23Speaker 2: But they're hot, These kids are getting hot.
- 3:26Speaker 5: I love it. Anyway.
- 3:27Speaker 7: No, I appreciated that my Twitter followers were like fifty
- 3:30Speaker 7: to fifty happy and upset. It wasn't one hundred percent upset.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I don't know, I thought.
- 3:36Speaker 7: I obviously don't put as much credence pre draft as
- 3:39Speaker 7: some of my coworkers at this table, So I kind
- 3:42Speaker 7: of just really enjoy waiting seeing who we get, listening
- 3:45Speaker 7: to them speak, listening to their availabilities, and I feel
- 3:48Speaker 7: like we have a really articulate, smart group of guys
- 3:51Speaker 7: coming in. And I'm excited.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I know they were trying to move up,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and had they done that, we have different players here.
- 4:00Speaker 2: But I'm happy with the first three picks anyway. I
- 4:04Speaker 2: really I'm excited obviously Gonzales, but this key on white
- 4:09Speaker 2: guy intrigues me. I think, like you said, due three
- 4:12Speaker 2: downs inside outside, I think I think they can do
- 4:15Speaker 2: a lot with this guy and then map who I mean,
- 4:19Speaker 2: let's see how the peck is if he can go
- 4:21Speaker 2: right away. But I think he also has the versatility
- 4:25Speaker 2: you know, to be in the modern day NFL, and
- 4:30Speaker 2: you know, add speed to the defense. So'm I like
- 4:34Speaker 2: what they did with the defense all the other guys,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know, you know, Boute if he
- 4:40Speaker 2: can get his act together, maybe he's a you know,
- 4:43Speaker 2: diamond in the rough. You needed a punter and a kicker.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Do you have to spend a fourth round pick? Maybe
- 4:49Speaker 2: in this draft it didn't matter, So I'm fine with
- 4:52Speaker 2: them picking up a punter and a kicker in the draft.
- 4:56Speaker 4: You know, I made some calls yesterday. People around the
- 4:59Speaker 4: league get the scuttle butt of what other people think
- 5:03Speaker 4: of the Patriots draft, and I think there's a lot
- 5:06Speaker 4: of just general kind of meh about what they did
- 5:13Speaker 4: in rounds two through five. Okay, I think that most
- 5:17Speaker 4: people I've spoke with feel like Keon White will be
- 5:20Speaker 4: an NFL player for a long time, will be a
- 5:22Speaker 4: really solid contributor, but maybe not a game changer. And
- 5:29Speaker 4: I think that was the general feeling about him as
- 5:31Speaker 4: a prospect coming in you know, he's got he had
- 5:35Speaker 4: has first round physical attributes to him, you know, the size,
- 5:38Speaker 4: the length, the athleticism. But I think a lot of
- 5:42Speaker 4: people felt, like I did, that there's maybe a little
- 5:44Speaker 4: bit something missing from his game. And I think the
- 5:47Speaker 4: other thing that I didn't really consider that some of
- 5:49Speaker 4: the people I spoke with did is his age and
- 5:52Speaker 4: the fact that he's twenty four years old already, which
- 5:55Speaker 4: means that he's physically tapped out. Like this is pretty
- 5:58Speaker 4: much what you're getting. And maybe he'll make some improvements
- 6:02Speaker 4: with his technique and his processing and things like that,
- 6:05Speaker 4: but for the most part, physically, he is who he is.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So did anyone that you talk to talk about what
- 6:10Speaker 2: his supporting cast look like at Georgia Tech in the front.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Not so much, No, but maybe that that's something that
- 6:18Speaker 4: he was the guy there and that I think that
- 6:20Speaker 4: that's the general sentiment that I got about what the
- 6:24Speaker 4: pick means for their their team, And I think that
- 6:27Speaker 4: the idea is certainly to compliment what they already have
- 6:31Speaker 4: and not necessarily come in to replace anybody. I think
- 6:35Speaker 4: that that's just the general thought is, Okay, now you
- 6:39Speaker 4: have Kean White, Christian Barmore, Dietrich Wise Godshaw inside with
- 6:46Speaker 4: Judan and on the outside not is not going to
- 6:50Speaker 4: be here in a year, so we drafted this kid
- 6:52Speaker 4: to replace him. I think it's more about the collective
- 6:55Speaker 4: of putting that whole group together. The feelings on Mapu
- 6:59Speaker 4: all over the map. Some people had him as a
- 7:05Speaker 4: priority free agent, you know, sixth round, seventh round pick
- 7:09Speaker 4: is usually when those types of guys go if they
- 7:11Speaker 4: do get drafted. Other people see what the Patriots see
- 7:14Speaker 4: in him and saw him as a as a top one,
- 7:18Speaker 4: maybe not one hundred, but top one, twenty five type
- 7:20Speaker 4: of guy. I saw. Mike Reeste did a report that
- 7:23Speaker 4: they were trying to actually trade out of the third round,
- 7:26Speaker 4: so I think that maybe they've even felt it was
- 7:28Speaker 4: a little early for Mapu at that point as well.
- 7:31Speaker 4: But I think the overall theme of the conversations I
- 7:35Speaker 4: had was they got guys that should be on NFL rosters,
- 7:39Speaker 4: that can play in the NFL. They just don't know
- 7:42Speaker 4: if any of these guys are gonna be needle movers
- 7:45Speaker 4: or difference makers or whatever way you want to put it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I think that a lot of these guys they are like, yeah,
- 7:51Speaker 4: they like they'll they'll be fine NFL players, but are
- 7:53Speaker 4: they gonna be game changers? Not based off of the
- 7:57Speaker 4: at least the opinions of the people that I spoke with.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I really like the first two picks. We talked about
- 8:02Speaker 5: this all weekend. I mean, I thought Gonzalez was excellent.
- 8:05Speaker 5: I think we all were for one of the few
- 8:07Speaker 5: guys that we were really universal one. And I if
- 8:11Speaker 5: Keon White ends up being kind of like the guys
- 8:14Speaker 5: that Evan talked to, If he ends up being like that,
- 8:17Speaker 5: I think that's an excellent second round pick. You know,
- 8:19Speaker 5: difference makers, you know, needle movers generally unavailable in the
- 8:23Speaker 5: second round, right, Like, I'm not telling you they can't be. No, But,
- 8:26Speaker 5: like like Evan said, with those kinds of measurables, if
- 8:30Speaker 5: he was a needle mover, he would have been a
- 8:31Speaker 5: first round pick. Now, I'm just looking like cause I'm
- 8:33Speaker 5: working on his profile. I mean, talk about nailing it.
- 8:36Speaker 5: I mean, the Beast had him forty seven overall. You
- 8:40Speaker 5: took him forty sixth. There you go, Like, I mean,
- 8:42Speaker 5: I think to Evan's point, you got guys closer to
- 8:45Speaker 5: where most people felt. Those are the two picks I
- 8:48Speaker 5: feel really good about you. Should feel best about the
- 8:50Speaker 5: ones that you pick early. I have reservations about the
- 8:54Speaker 5: third round pick. Doesn't surprise me to learn that they
- 8:56Speaker 5: were trying to move out of that. I talked to
- 8:57Speaker 5: Mike about that a little bit earlier, and I just
- 9:02Speaker 5: think that that kind of a pick I don't think
- 9:05Speaker 5: you needed to take in the third round. But whatever,
- 9:07Speaker 5: we'll see what he ends up being. And out of
- 9:10Speaker 5: the day three picks, there's two things that I would say.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Number One, the pick I like the most is Booty.
- 9:16Speaker 5: I think it's hypocritical, and this is what I said
- 9:19Speaker 5: on Saturday. I don't think he will pan out, but
- 9:23Speaker 5: I love the pick. I absolutely love rolling the dice
- 9:25Speaker 5: on a guy who has some talent who you know
- 9:30Speaker 5: may or may not have the maturity to go along
- 9:32Speaker 5: with it. I love the idea of that in the
- 9:33Speaker 5: sixth round. I think that's what you do, is when
- 9:36Speaker 5: when those kinds of guys are available, you take a flyer.
- 9:38Speaker 5: So I love love that pick. And the other thing,
- 9:42Speaker 5: I was just surprised they didn't get more aggressive to
- 9:45Speaker 5: try to move up.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, I think they tried, but I think everybody was
- 9:49Speaker 2: doing it.
- 9:49Speaker 5: And it was a record amount of trades yeah, you know,
- 9:53Speaker 5: everybody else seemed to be able.
- 9:54Speaker 2: To They don't like us.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Everyone's against that.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I think, yeah, I think the one position that you
- 9:59Speaker 4: have to lo back on and grow. Was asked about it,
- 10:02Speaker 4: and he mentioned that the guys they had on their
- 10:05Speaker 4: board at tight end flew off the board early, and
- 10:10Speaker 4: you wonder, I think at forty six they were locked
- 10:12Speaker 4: into Keon White because Reese also reported that Keon White
- 10:16Speaker 4: was on the shortlist at seventeen, so they really liked
- 10:19Speaker 4: the player in Keon White. So I don't think they
- 10:21Speaker 4: were taking Luke Schoonmaker in the second round. That was
- 10:25Speaker 4: never I'm sure a conversation in the draft from the
- 10:28Speaker 4: ones that are gonna come out that are were going
- 10:30Speaker 4: to play that game with, you know, it's two to
- 10:33Speaker 4: three years down the line. Or Tucker Craft and Darnell Washington.
- 10:36Speaker 4: In the third round, you took Mapu over both of them.
- 10:38Speaker 4: They both came off the board within five picks of
- 10:41Speaker 4: Mapho at the end of the third or middle of
- 10:43Speaker 4: the third round, I guess. And if those two guys,
- 10:46Speaker 4: if one of those two guys ends up panning out
- 10:48Speaker 4: at the tight end position and you passed for Mapu,
- 10:51Speaker 4: then that will be the second guess of you know,
- 10:53Speaker 4: why why wasn't Darnell Washington in that conversation? He seemed
- 10:57Speaker 4: like such a Patriot prototype in terms of the size
- 11:01Speaker 4: and the blocking ability and those types of things. So
- 11:04Speaker 4: we'll see. I think those are this That's the biggest
- 11:06Speaker 4: second guess for the draft to me is why no
- 11:09Speaker 4: tight ends and why some of those mid round guys
- 11:13Speaker 4: over some of the tight ends that went in the
- 11:14Speaker 4: third and the fourth round.
- 11:15Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, So what does this say now about the offense?
- 11:20Speaker 2: He took some three interior linemen. That's not going to
- 11:23Speaker 2: really help the twenty twenty three Patriots offense probably less.
- 11:28Speaker 2: You know, Andrews goes down and maybe you've got a
- 11:30Speaker 2: good center rookie center there, But otherwise, there's no additional
- 11:36Speaker 2: targets for mac Jones other than what you have right now.
- 11:40Speaker 2: You know, I'm just I'm not counting on the two
- 11:43Speaker 2: receivers that they picked to you know, even make the
- 11:46Speaker 2: fifty three man roster. They you know, they might be
- 11:49Speaker 2: practice squad players or whatever. You know, I just don't
- 11:52Speaker 2: see whose place they're gonna take. You never know, But
- 11:56Speaker 2: for all intents and purposes, the depth chart going in
- 12:00Speaker 2: in terms of targets is how it is coming out. Yeah,
- 12:04Speaker 2: well what are we thinking now?
- 12:05Speaker 3: I mean I would just say one one thing on that,
- 12:07Speaker 3: like they didn't really replace Nelson Aguil or leaving. So
- 12:09Speaker 3: I do think that there's a you know, a wide
- 12:10Speaker 3: receiver spot generally, you know, it's shifts every year, but
- 12:14Speaker 3: I would say generally there's a spot available. I mean,
- 12:16Speaker 3: I don't you know, I'm not going to bang the
- 12:17Speaker 3: drum and say either one of those guys is going
- 12:18Speaker 3: to do it, but I just I think it's it's
- 12:20Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien, it's Mike KASICKI you know, it's Juju Smith
- 12:23Speaker 3: Schuster that. I mean, those are the guys that you're
- 12:25Speaker 3: counting on to get things right this year on offense.
- 12:29Speaker 3: And I mean I do I would just say, though,
- 12:31Speaker 3: you know, like I keep asking myself, like, well, Mike,
- 12:33Speaker 3: what did you what did you think was going to
- 12:34Speaker 3: move the needle on off It's like, other than a
- 12:36Speaker 3: first round pick. Once we got out of the first
- 12:38Speaker 3: round pick, you know, maybe there was one of those
- 12:39Speaker 3: tight ends that could move the needle. But I just
- 12:42Speaker 3: you know, I'm asking myself in retrospect, what was I
- 12:44Speaker 3: hoping for? And I think I was almost I wasn't
- 12:47Speaker 3: putting a name to my claim.
- 12:48Speaker 2: In my head, my name was a trade. My name
- 12:52Speaker 2: was Jerry Judy.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's a name to the claim, and that's
- 12:55Speaker 3: what I'm trying to put a name to the claim.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Looking at available guys, we're talking a lot about Day
- 13:01Speaker 5: two receivers, whether it be tight ends or wide receivers.
- 13:05Speaker 5: You guys both like Downs more than me.
- 13:07Speaker 3: I think we didn't go till I mean, he was
- 13:08Speaker 3: more your guy though, you know, like, but.
- 13:10Speaker 4: He went two picks after they picked Mop of day Yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 4: I am too.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Yeah, And that's like, I'm not telling you that they
- 13:20Speaker 5: would have moved the needle, but I think that there
- 13:22Speaker 5: have been a lot of guys drafted over the last
- 13:24Speaker 5: five years at that position that have done that.
- 13:27Speaker 3: From day two, we talked about that a lot, right,
- 13:29Speaker 3: I mean.
- 13:29Speaker 5: It didn't have to be a first round receiver because
- 13:32Speaker 5: I agree with their assessment of the receivers as a
- 13:35Speaker 5: total aside. And I don't want to like bog this
- 13:36Speaker 5: down on you guys, but I saw the thing that
- 13:40Speaker 5: Mike had about, you know, Keeon White being a consideration
- 13:43Speaker 5: at seventeen. How do you how do we feel about
- 13:45Speaker 5: that because it worries me when I read stuff like that,
- 13:48Speaker 5: when a guy gets taken thirty picks later and you
- 13:50Speaker 5: were gonna you were comfortable taking them, that that kind
- 13:53Speaker 5: of worries me.
- 13:54Speaker 3: And they weren't doing backflips like they were for Gonzales,
- 13:57Speaker 3: like if you still got a player that you were
- 13:58Speaker 3: ready to take a seventeen like, you know, because we
- 14:00Speaker 3: didn't really get the same sense of like, oh my god.
- 14:02Speaker 3: It's just you got the sense they feel like they
- 14:04Speaker 3: nailed the Gonzales pick and they were lucky to get them.
- 14:06Speaker 3: You'd think that that would be the same attitude if
- 14:08Speaker 3: that was the case. But I'm not even I mean,
- 14:10Speaker 3: it'll sound like they really love them.
- 14:12Speaker 5: I'm not fixated on like the whole you know, Evan
- 14:15Speaker 5: was trying to bait me all all uh Thursday night, Like,
- 14:18Speaker 5: I'm not going to fixate on that. They clearly didn't
- 14:21Speaker 5: love Gonzales or they wouldn't have rolled the dice. I'm
- 14:24Speaker 5: not fixated on that because they got them and that's
- 14:26Speaker 5: all that matters. And I think it's a good pick,
- 14:28Speaker 5: But that's a big gap seventeen to forty six. Huge,
- 14:32Speaker 5: Like to me, that's showing that you didn't know the
- 14:34Speaker 5: board if you thought that that was a guy that
- 14:37Speaker 5: you had to take at seventeen. And now they did
- 14:39Speaker 5: they feel like they were lucky that he was available
- 14:41Speaker 5: at forty six.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Well, you say they had to take it seventeen. Maybe
- 14:45Speaker 2: they just on their board he was he was rated that.
- 14:48Speaker 5: High, right, That's what I'm saying. And else's board had
- 14:51Speaker 5: him rated that high, Well, I just I guess it
- 14:53Speaker 5: wouldn't have been available. The one pushback I would just
- 14:56Speaker 5: have on that is, I do think that scheme comes
- 14:59Speaker 5: into play with these boards. So the Patriots' view of
- 15:03Speaker 5: Keon White is going to be different than teams that
- 15:05Speaker 5: don't play a two gapping three. That's why I prefaced
- 15:08Speaker 5: the whole thing is I don't need it's it's a
- 15:11Speaker 5: very subjective thing. It's not something no and I like
- 15:14Speaker 5: Keon White. I've really like I didn't know a ton
- 15:18Speaker 5: about him when we when we drafted him. I said
- 15:19Speaker 5: that Friday night when we drafted him. But you know,
- 15:22Speaker 5: I'm looking, I'm you know, doing some research and trying
- 15:24Speaker 5: to get my profile ready for him, and I'm I
- 15:27Speaker 5: do think that he's he could be a valuable player
- 15:29Speaker 5: on this team. I don't think that he is a
- 15:33Speaker 5: impact player in the passing game, which was the one
- 15:35Speaker 5: thing that I that I had mentioned Friday. But I
- 15:37Speaker 5: think he's going to be a good player, So I
- 15:39Speaker 5: have no problem with the pick. I think it's a
- 15:41Speaker 5: really good second round pick. I kind of looked back
- 15:43Speaker 5: at last year like cold Strange. Clearly they were the
- 15:46Speaker 5: only team that was even thinking about Cold Strange when
- 15:49Speaker 5: they took him. So could this have been a cold
- 15:53Speaker 5: Strange where they're taking like they could have taken Keyon
- 15:56Speaker 5: Let's say, for what for aarguments save Washington took Gonzales
- 16:00Speaker 5: instead of Forbes? Forbes, do we then take Keon White
- 16:05Speaker 5: at seventeen and we've never would have known that he
- 16:08Speaker 5: would have been available thirty picks later? But he was
- 16:10Speaker 5: right like that kind of stuff. I mean, I know
- 16:12Speaker 5: it's a crapshooting all but that kind of stuff kind
- 16:14Speaker 5: of worries.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Why did that is that Reese reporting that they were
- 16:17Speaker 2: thinking of Yeah, he said that there were four guys.
- 16:19Speaker 4: He knew that Gonzales and Keon White. I'm sure he
- 16:22Speaker 4: knows all four, but he didn't report it all four.
- 16:24Speaker 4: And then if you put.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Because they didn't get the other two.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Yeah, if you put Brears spin on it of Jamiir Gibbs,
- 16:31Speaker 4: I guess that's three. So we're kind of waiting on
- 16:34Speaker 4: finding out who the fourth guy was. I I just
- 16:38Speaker 4: putting my Patriots, you know, brain on. I would think
- 16:41Speaker 4: it would be Deontay Banks from Maryland.
- 16:43Speaker 2: But I don't know, you know, so I don't know
- 16:46Speaker 2: where Mike is getting it from. But like, what if
- 16:49Speaker 2: the Patriots got that information out there, so other teams
- 16:52Speaker 2: thought they were interested in Jamier Gibbs or you know,
- 16:55Speaker 2: I like, I don't.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Know, Detroit put it out there. They Detroit told, but
- 17:00Speaker 5: they got it in somewhere Detroit, Yeah, Detroit.
- 17:03Speaker 2: No, but Detroit got it from something.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Like they thought that the Patriots might be interested in
- 17:07Speaker 5: Jamior Gibbs. But why because Detroit told Detroit think that
- 17:12Speaker 5: I don't know why, because why did exactly why did
- 17:17Speaker 5: the Patriots think that the Jets were going to take
- 17:20Speaker 5: Broderick Jones? But because you just you just do no,
- 17:23Speaker 5: you just have a feeld No.
- 17:25Speaker 2: But you there's stuff going on out there that you
- 17:28Speaker 2: have moles or you have people.
- 17:30Speaker 5: That I think Evan just gave you a very plausible example.
- 17:33Speaker 2: But sometimes teams put out these things so other teams think, oh,
- 17:37Speaker 2: they're interested in Jamior Gibbs, we got to take him.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Well.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I also would say that the Lions.
- 17:41Speaker 2: It happens, Paul, That's.
- 17:42Speaker 5: How it works, like, okay, so what's the point. It's
- 17:45Speaker 5: it's what's the point?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Who?
- 17:47Speaker 5: Okay? So they didn't they didn't want Keon so they
- 17:49Speaker 5: didn't really want key On White.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Possibly they didn't want Jamiir Gibbs.
- 17:53Speaker 5: I don't care about Jamier Gibbs. He went six page earlier.
- 17:56Speaker 5: I'm talking about the guy that they could have picked
- 17:58Speaker 5: at seventeen that they picked at forty seven.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I'm just saying this information. It's it's not always well,
- 18:03Speaker 2: you know.
- 18:04Speaker 5: I think that we try to do sometimes. And when
- 18:06Speaker 5: I say we, I mean the collective media talkers, you know, analysts.
- 18:11Speaker 5: We try to paint everything it's such a positive light.
- 18:12Speaker 5: I don't think that paints them in a positive light.
- 18:15Speaker 5: I think that was put out in a way to say, Wow,
- 18:18Speaker 5: what a great job the Patriots. They got two guys
- 18:20Speaker 5: that they would have taken in the first parts. And
- 18:22Speaker 5: I looked at it just like they were going to
- 18:25Speaker 5: take the almost took one guy way earlier than they
- 18:26Speaker 5: needed to. Yeah.
- 18:28Speaker 3: And then one of the big thoughts I had coming
- 18:30Speaker 3: out of this draft, I don't know why specifically this
- 18:31Speaker 3: one was like I really wonder how big the Patriots
- 18:33Speaker 3: board actually is because part of me wonders if there's like,
- 18:36Speaker 3: it's twenty guys, like I mean, it's literally twenty guys,
- 18:39Speaker 3: and that's when they get to the point where they're
- 18:40Speaker 3: just like mapoo. No, I don't know, that's what we
- 18:43Speaker 3: gotta do, you know, take the kicker.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say that based off of what we've
- 18:47Speaker 4: heard in the past on that seventy five players, I
- 18:51Speaker 4: think is Max would be there there.
- 18:54Speaker 3: It's probably like twenty players that we've never even heard.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Right, and in a year like this, it might even
- 18:58Speaker 4: have been even smaller because this this draft is a
- 19:01Speaker 4: little bit watered down to begin with.
- 19:02Speaker 5: So Hevin, you did some you did some research yesterday,
- 19:06Speaker 5: you know, talking about the draft. I'm just curious if
- 19:09Speaker 5: you talk to anybody that indicated that that booty was
- 19:13Speaker 5: taken off of anyone's board.
- 19:16Speaker 2: No.
- 19:16Speaker 4: I actually got a lot of really positive reviews on
- 19:19Speaker 4: to Mario Douglas and a player that I think that
- 19:23Speaker 4: you know, the Patriots went into Gross said that they
- 19:26Speaker 4: went into the Shrine Bowl, but the you know, the
- 19:28Speaker 4: people I spoke with, it was really the Malik Willis
- 19:31Speaker 4: season that that put to Mario Douglas.
- 19:33Speaker 5: That's my concerns with him.
- 19:35Speaker 4: On the on the map. And then the Patriots went
- 19:39Speaker 4: into the Shrine Bowl already knowing who to Mario Douglas
- 19:43Speaker 4: was and wanting him on their Shrine Bowl roster. And
- 19:46Speaker 4: I also heard that they put a pretty hefty install
- 19:49Speaker 4: in on the offensive side of the ball to test
- 19:51Speaker 4: the guys mentally, and to Mario Douglas is one of
- 19:54Speaker 4: the guys that was up late at night, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 4: going through the playbook, going through things and and really
- 20:00Speaker 4: had a good grasp on what they're trying to do.
- 20:02Speaker 4: I think the one that obviously the frame, and he's
- 20:06Speaker 4: five foot eight, you know, one hundred and seventy nine pounds.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I think it was one seventy nine, so he's small.
- 20:11Speaker 4: But I think the one thing that that people that
- 20:14Speaker 4: I spoke with, because my biggest question was, well, he's
- 20:17Speaker 4: got a really similar frame and he's got a really
- 20:19Speaker 4: similar athletic profile to downs in Ze Flowers, So why
- 20:22Speaker 4: do they go first and third round? And he goes
- 20:24Speaker 4: sixth round, and I think a lot of people pointed to, Uh,
- 20:28Speaker 4: he's a little bit raw in his route running. He's
- 20:30Speaker 4: kind of good at what he's good at right now,
- 20:32Speaker 4: but he doesn't have like a full route tree of
- 20:33Speaker 4: routes that at his disposal. And he doesn't play on
- 20:36Speaker 4: the outside. You know, those guys have at least some
- 20:38Speaker 4: especially Zay has some potential to play on the outside.
- 20:41Speaker 4: But Douglas, I think everybody felt like was a true
- 20:44Speaker 4: inside guy with Booty. I didn't hear that he was
- 20:46Speaker 4: off anybody's board. I think the biggest thing that people
- 20:49Speaker 4: questioned about him is is that guy that with the
- 20:52Speaker 4: nineteen year old booty? Is that does that player still exist?
- 20:55Speaker 4: Like regardless of the off field stuff and getting him
- 20:58Speaker 4: locked in.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Ye, with that nineteen year old you can get physical
- 21:02Speaker 5: right on the right on.
- 21:04Speaker 4: The I didn't even didn't even hear that physically is
- 21:10Speaker 4: the ankle and is he does that explosiveness still exist
- 21:15Speaker 4: because I think a lot of people are making that
- 21:18Speaker 4: pick out to be well, if they can just get
- 21:20Speaker 4: him on the tracks mentally that he's he's gonna be fine.
- 21:24Speaker 5: That's only part of it.
- 21:26Speaker 4: The other part of it is that he had two
- 21:28Speaker 4: surgeries on the same ankle because it didn't heal properly
- 21:31Speaker 4: the first time, and twenty twenty two he did not
- 21:35Speaker 4: look like he had the same juice as he had
- 21:37Speaker 4: pre ankle injuries. So he did start to come on
- 21:41Speaker 4: later in the year. Though SEC championship game against Georgia
- 21:44Speaker 4: had over one hundred yards, so maybe they're that further
- 21:48Speaker 4: we get removed, but then the combine wasn't good, so
- 21:51Speaker 4: a lot of people are concerned about if that guy
- 21:53Speaker 4: still still exists in him.
- 21:55Speaker 5: But he was originally going to go back, yeah and yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Basically Brian Kelly said you're no longer part of the family,
- 22:04Speaker 5: and he ended up opting out of the bowl game
- 22:06Speaker 5: and declaring. But to Evan's point, there there it's twofold,
- 22:10Speaker 5: it's maturity and physical and then like there's talent there.
- 22:15Speaker 5: There's no doubt. I mean, we've seen the highlights. We
- 22:17Speaker 5: saw There's there's one clip that everybody's putting out there
- 22:20Speaker 5: of him absolutely dusting Forbes on a on a slant.
- 22:24Speaker 4: He takes fault.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Sorry. So the the other part of it is like
- 22:29Speaker 5: you look back, the freshman year is what really got him,
- 22:31Speaker 5: Like he as a true freshman stepped in and ended
- 22:34Speaker 5: up having a start because guys ended up leaving and
- 22:38Speaker 5: it was it was him and he had a great year.
- 22:40Speaker 5: But about let's say forty of his production came in
- 22:44Speaker 5: one game. It had over three hundred yards in one game.
- 22:47Speaker 5: I think he finished with like seven hundred and fifty
- 22:48Speaker 5: yards against that year. I think there's a lot to
- 22:53Speaker 5: be intrigued. Like I said, I think it's a fantastic
- 22:55Speaker 5: six round pick because I like, if it, let's just say,
- 22:58Speaker 5: he like flames out, like epically, you've lost nothing, right, Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 5: there's only something to This is truly one of the
- 23:06Speaker 5: the Pagriots fans point every transaction into all you know,
- 23:10Speaker 5: all risk, no you know, I mean no risk, all rewarded.
- 23:13Speaker 5: This one is truly that there's nothing lost and if
- 23:15Speaker 5: he doesn't make I mean, it reminds me a lot.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Of those times when they've gone and gotten like first
- 23:19Speaker 3: round picks that have flamed out in the league and
- 23:22Speaker 3: haven't quite worked out. I mean, you know, it's this
- 23:24Speaker 3: kid was like a five star recruit. I mean he
- 23:26Speaker 3: you know, it's just one of those guys that is
- 23:28Speaker 3: a natural receiver that's dripping with talent. I'm with you, Paul.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I love the shot on it. I love to see
- 23:33Speaker 3: just what he looks like when he gets out there.
- 23:35Speaker 3: And I think you heard it from mac Ro too,
- 23:37Speaker 3: like directly, like he was talking to Kaishawn Bhute when
- 23:40Speaker 3: he did his press conference right after, like it's going
- 23:42Speaker 3: to be up to him, so they're, you know, laying
- 23:44Speaker 3: down the gauntlet for him if you want this opportunity
- 23:46Speaker 3: here it is.
- 23:47Speaker 7: It really feels like the injury is the bigger deal
- 23:49Speaker 7: than the off the field stuff. To me, I think
- 23:51Speaker 7: he's a kid that almost had a great opportunity taken
- 23:54Speaker 7: away from him because of his off the field antics.
- 23:57Speaker 7: I don't think people do that twice. I don't think
- 24:00Speaker 7: and like you are.
- 24:00Speaker 5: Who you get trouble at a school like that was
- 24:03Speaker 5: you was really hard?
- 24:04Speaker 2: Really, I feel like it's really.
- 24:06Speaker 7: I think they have they overlook everything, but they have
- 24:09Speaker 7: so much they get crazy. The other one, I just
- 24:13Speaker 7: feel like you put him in New England in this
- 24:14Speaker 7: locker room, and like you are who you surround yourself with.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Like Aaron Hernandez did all kinds of stuff at Florida
- 24:22Speaker 5: and got away with it because you get away with
- 24:24Speaker 5: that stuff at those programs.
- 24:25Speaker 7: It's a different world now though, when Aaron Hernandez is
- 24:27Speaker 7: in college, I think that's way more online. If like
- 24:32Speaker 7: I don't know, I'm giving the kid a chance, like
- 24:35Speaker 7: if he wants to come in here.
- 24:38Speaker 5: But I think I think the maturity is as big
- 24:40Speaker 5: a part of I agree with Evan. I think it's both.
- 24:42Speaker 5: I think it's I think the maturity is a big
- 24:44Speaker 5: problem to a guy in his first year.
- 24:50Speaker 4: I also just think that, you know, talking to everybody,
- 24:53Speaker 4: that I keep on gravitating back to Douglas because that's
- 24:57Speaker 4: the that's a patriot type of guy. Douglas is the
- 24:59Speaker 4: type of that's gonna be here twelve hours a day
- 25:01Speaker 4: working on his craft, studying the playbook, or you know
- 25:05Speaker 4: he wants he has that drive. I'm not saying that
- 25:07Speaker 4: Boot doesn't necessarily have it, but just based off of
- 25:09Speaker 4: what we've heard about him, he's not wired that way necessarily.
- 25:13Speaker 5: I agree.
- 25:13Speaker 4: He's the guy that just has so much talent that
- 25:15Speaker 4: he steps on the field on Sunday and he's just
- 25:17Speaker 4: better than everybody else. Douglas is the worker, and I
- 25:20Speaker 4: think the one comp that I got for him that
- 25:22Speaker 4: made me excited was that he's like if Marcus Jones
- 25:26Speaker 4: was full time on offense, Like, that's the type of player.
- 25:29Speaker 4: They can, you know, throw the gadget plays to him,
- 25:31Speaker 4: they can throw throw balls to him down the field.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I don't know if he'll be as explosive and electric
- 25:37Speaker 4: as Marcus Jones was, but that was the general feeling
- 25:40Speaker 4: was that that's sort of the skill set that you're
- 25:42Speaker 4: getting with him.
- 25:43Speaker 3: So what an interesting study though, I mean, I just
- 25:45Speaker 3: like a lot of the draft for me now is
- 25:47Speaker 3: just like who am I curious when we get out
- 25:49Speaker 3: on the field, just to see how they move in?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Like you laid it out, These two guys, both six
- 25:53Speaker 3: round receivers, draft pretty close to each other, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 3: kind of kind of some definite differences in how they
- 25:59Speaker 3: have gone about things. But what's it? Because I feel
- 26:01Speaker 3: like there is an opportunity for one of if one
- 26:03Speaker 3: of those guys is consistent, can be out there every day,
- 26:06Speaker 3: catches everything that's thrown his way, I think he's going
- 26:08Speaker 3: to get a chance to contribute to the to the
- 26:10Speaker 3: offense this year. But I don't think there's a guarantee
- 26:12Speaker 3: that either one of them do. I'm just crossing my
- 26:14Speaker 3: fingers one of them, but it's an interesting competition.
- 26:16Speaker 5: If one of them pans out, it could push Kendrick
- 26:18Speaker 5: Bourne off the roster.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Well, there's four. They have four receivers, right, I mean Taekwon, Parker,
- 26:23Speaker 4: Thornton and Bourn.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Yeah. So Mike said at the beginning of the show
- 26:29Speaker 5: his room for a fifth receiver, but a contributor. Like
- 26:32Speaker 5: if one of these guys is just here, and that's
- 26:34Speaker 5: one thing. If one of these guys is so good
- 26:37Speaker 5: in the off season in training camp that he establishes
- 26:40Speaker 5: a role for himself, it could push a guy like
- 26:42Speaker 5: Born off the roster.
- 26:43Speaker 4: That would definitely to me, I think the better odds
- 26:45Speaker 4: are that being Boutie, assuming that he recaptures what he
- 26:48Speaker 4: had early at LSU. But I think with him, he's
- 26:52Speaker 4: either contributing and on the fifty three or he's out
- 26:56Speaker 4: of the building. Like I think Douglas is the type
- 26:58Speaker 4: of guy that you could put on a practice squad
- 27:00Speaker 4: and develop and behind the scenes, and maybe he's not
- 27:04Speaker 4: ready right now, but he's ready next year to try
- 27:06Speaker 4: to make a push for the roster. Booty is not
- 27:09Speaker 4: the type of guy that you have on the practice squad,
- 27:11Speaker 4: Like he's either gonna be on the team, or he's
- 27:13Speaker 4: gonna be into somebody else's.
- 27:15Speaker 5: I mean, effort was a question in college before he
- 27:17Speaker 5: was getting paid.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Right, we mentioned Booty had a good game against Georgia.
- 27:22Speaker 2: There's another player that the Patriots picked that didn't have
- 27:24Speaker 2: a good game against Georgia, and some people think that
- 27:27Speaker 2: might have contributed to him being available at seventeen.
- 27:29Speaker 5: That's Gonzales.
- 27:31Speaker 2: But there's some context around that.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I guess, first game of the season, Patriot first game
- 27:36Speaker 3: of the season, but I mean, you know it's he
- 27:38Speaker 3: didn't he didn't look great. I mean, he looked not
- 27:40Speaker 3: physical and you know, got run over a couple of times.
- 27:42Speaker 3: But I mean, I think Evan dove into it too.
- 27:44Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 27:45Speaker 3: I think there's I want a cornerback like that's athletic.
- 27:49Speaker 3: I don't really like that's fine, like they have every
- 27:51Speaker 3: cornerback out here can tackle, Like you're telling me, Like,
- 27:54Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, he's, yeah, he's next level athletic,
- 27:56Speaker 3: but I don't know if he's a good tackler. I'm like,
- 27:58Speaker 3: I'm past that point. I think the lead who can cover,
- 28:01Speaker 3: and that's what it's about. And even in that game,
- 28:04Speaker 3: you can see how next level athletic. The kid is
- 28:06Speaker 3: the way he moves to space. But you know, I
- 28:08Speaker 3: was not impressed with some of his you know, I
- 28:10Speaker 3: mean they got run over by Georgia. They weren't ready
- 28:12Speaker 3: to play.
- 28:12Speaker 5: They were the team itself wasn't ready. It's hard for
- 28:16Speaker 5: like one cornerback to stand out, right, Oh, I was
- 28:19Speaker 5: ready to play with the other ten guys sucked. That's hard.
- 28:22Speaker 5: That's hard.
- 28:24Speaker 4: I think that this is probably there's I have other
- 28:27Speaker 4: issues with him on film, but none of them are glaring.
- 28:32Speaker 4: And this Georgia game thing is just so ridiculous to me.
- 28:35Speaker 4: But it's not out of the norm for top corners.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I think, you know, the guy that really stands out
- 28:41Speaker 4: and this is a j. Terrell who got torched by
- 28:44Speaker 4: Jamar Chase when he played LSU in college and it
- 28:47Speaker 4: caused him to fall, and now he's all pro cornerback
- 28:50Speaker 4: in the league. So Jalen Ramsey similar thing. He had
- 28:53Speaker 4: one game you know, back in his day, didn't cause
- 28:56Speaker 4: him to fall, but he had one thing, one game
- 28:58Speaker 4: where he didn't play well that everybody sort of questioning it.
- 29:01Speaker 4: With Gonzalez, the plays that people are talking about against
- 29:06Speaker 4: the run with him are him trying to take on
- 29:10Speaker 4: pulling tackles or Darnell Washington at the point of attack.
- 29:14Speaker 4: And if you didn't want to draft a corner because
- 29:17Speaker 4: he can't take on a two hundred and seventy pound
- 29:19Speaker 4: tight end coming at him at full speed in the
- 29:21Speaker 4: running game, then I guess you just didn't like the player,
- 29:25Speaker 4: like I don't know, like that, that's why you're not
- 29:27Speaker 4: drafting him, I think is a little bit weird. And
- 29:29Speaker 4: then the one real catch that he gave up, he
- 29:31Speaker 4: gave up a couple of screens, and the one real
- 29:33Speaker 4: catch he gave up was an eighteen yard touchdown on
- 29:35Speaker 4: a perfectly placed back shoulder where the guy the receiver
- 29:39Speaker 4: had to toe tap in the corner of the end
- 29:41Speaker 4: zone to get his feet and bounce. So could he
- 29:43Speaker 4: have played better in the game. Yeah, absolutely, wasn't his
- 29:45Speaker 4: best game by any means. But I think some of
- 29:48Speaker 4: the nippicks on that one are a little bit of egregious.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I do think that they were a little bit egregious,
- 29:53Speaker 5: and I agree with with that notion. I just wish
- 29:57Speaker 5: with him just for the ease of mind. You know,
- 30:00Speaker 5: we all love the pick, but I wish there was
- 30:02Speaker 5: some examples of the others the other way. Okay, so
- 30:05Speaker 5: he went up against Georgia and you know, they didn't
- 30:08Speaker 5: play very well that day. I wish that they went
- 30:10Speaker 5: up against USC and like Caleb Williams with maybe Jordan Addison,
- 30:14Speaker 5: you know, but they didn't. They didn't play. So instead
- 30:17Speaker 5: it was like picking on a one on eleven Colorado team.
- 30:20Speaker 8: You know.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I wish there was that other side. I could say, well, yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 5: he struggled against Page Georgia, but a chance, you know,
- 30:28Speaker 5: he didn't really get a chance to play against a
- 30:30Speaker 5: you know, a really top level and I don't really
- 30:32Speaker 5: think george is a top level offense. I think Stetsan
- 30:35Speaker 5: Bennett's thinks.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Well, he did play against Michael Wilson, who was the
- 30:39Speaker 4: third round pick this weekend, and really played well against
- 30:42Speaker 4: the at the Senior Bowl, and he took him out
- 30:44Speaker 4: of the game. So that was the one that I like.
- 30:46Speaker 5: I mean, I like the player. You don't have to
- 30:48Speaker 5: sell me out.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Well, at Georgia. The Georgia game, what I was really
- 30:52Speaker 4: impressed with was his coverage ability. I think he held
- 30:54Speaker 4: up really well in coverage. And then against Michael Wilson
- 30:58Speaker 4: and Stanford, he was a lot more physical in that
- 31:01Speaker 4: game than he was in the Georgia game. So again
- 31:04Speaker 4: it's they're running these these crack tosses in these sweeps,
- 31:07Speaker 4: trying to get the DB's in the in the run game,
- 31:10Speaker 4: and he's got you know, three hundred and ten pound
- 31:12Speaker 4: tackles and Broderick Jones coming right at him, and people
- 31:14Speaker 4: are saying that, oh, well, he didn't take on Brodrick
- 31:17Speaker 4: Jones and make the tackles.
- 31:18Speaker 5: It's not what I'm paying them for.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, I know, but but that's what that's
- 31:23Speaker 4: what the conversation is about, is when it comes to
- 31:27Speaker 4: that Georgia game.
- 31:27Speaker 2: All right, eight five five Pats five hundred is the
- 31:30Speaker 2: A Sticket hotline, web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 31:33Speaker 2: the email address. Uh, take a quick phone call. Let's see,
- 31:38Speaker 2: we've got Anthony in Seattle. What's up, Anthony? Hey?
- 31:44Speaker 9: Hey, hey, hey, you got to hear me?
- 31:46Speaker 10: All right?
- 31:47Speaker 9: Yep, all right, great, hey, I got a rant today.
- 31:52Speaker 9: And uh so, first and first and foremost, I love
- 31:55Speaker 9: the Gonzales pick. All right, So that's who I want
- 31:59Speaker 9: it know, full disclosure, I don't watch college ball, but
- 32:03Speaker 9: you know, Evan taught me that I loved Christian Zales.
- 32:09Speaker 9: Duce taught me that the only guy worth trading up
- 32:12Speaker 9: would be Christian Zals and that would be dream scenario
- 32:15Speaker 9: if we could get him, but that we shouldn't expect
- 32:18Speaker 9: that because he's not supposed to make it outside of
- 32:20Speaker 9: the top ten. So when he was on the clock
- 32:23Speaker 9: at eleven or Tennessee was on the clock at eleven,
- 32:25Speaker 9: I mean that's when I started calling for trade up.
- 32:28Speaker 9: I'm like, you know, we got good relationship with Rabel, Like,
- 32:31Speaker 9: can we get this pick? So for sure when he
- 32:33Speaker 9: falls to you at fourteen, just make the pick, man, Like,
- 32:36Speaker 9: why are you playing around?
- 32:38Speaker 11: Now?
- 32:38Speaker 9: Here's my problem. Now we still got the guy, and
- 32:40Speaker 9: I'm ecstatic about it. But here's my issue with Bill
- 32:43Speaker 9: Belichick is he's going to still look like a genius
- 32:46Speaker 9: because it worked out. But you're going to gamble that pick.
- 32:51Speaker 9: You're going to play around with that pick because when
- 32:54Speaker 9: the clock came on, when they got on the clock
- 32:56Speaker 9: at seventeen, the ten minut'clock, when we made it to nine,
- 32:59Speaker 9: they picked him immediately. To me, that means he was
- 33:01Speaker 9: the guy at fourteen and he gambled it. So you're
- 33:04Speaker 9: gonna you're gonna risk losing your Batman so you can
- 33:07Speaker 9: pick up an extra Robin later like that is just
- 33:10Speaker 9: silly to me. And for a guy who claims that
- 33:13Speaker 9: he's he's always about the best interest of the team,
- 33:16Speaker 9: that seems like he was more so trying to show
- 33:18Speaker 9: that he's the smartest guy in the room once again,
- 33:20Speaker 9: and that came back. I mean, first off, Washington picked
- 33:24Speaker 9: the corner, and I think they probably picked the wrong guy.
- 33:26Speaker 9: They should have taken govin dollars. But what's worse man
- 33:29Speaker 9: if the Jets take him at fifteen and pair him
- 33:32Speaker 9: up with Sauce Gardner. Also, you can get an additional
- 33:35Speaker 9: fourth man that is a fireball fin I'm sorry, thank
- 33:39Speaker 9: you for the sixth titles. Goodbye. Don't even let him
- 33:42Speaker 9: finish the draft. You go from looking like looking like
- 33:44Speaker 9: the old one.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I mean, Anthony Marble, you're right, if you're right, if
- 33:48Speaker 2: that's the only person they liked at fourteen, But apparently
- 33:51Speaker 2: they had a handful of guys that they were willing to,
- 33:55Speaker 2: you know, pick at that position. You know, any one
- 33:58Speaker 2: of them, in any one of them would have been
- 34:00Speaker 2: a guy that they would have been happy with.
- 34:02Speaker 5: I wouldn't read. I mean that irritates me, but I
- 34:04Speaker 5: wouldn't read into the amount of time it takes, Like,
- 34:06Speaker 5: so they go from fourteen to seventeen, what do you
- 34:08Speaker 5: think that they did during that time. I think they
- 34:11Speaker 5: were probably constantly, yes, constantly, fielding calls for trades. They realized,
- 34:16Speaker 5: there isn't one that we like, so what are we doing?
- 34:19Speaker 5: I tried, I had plenty of time to make a move.
- 34:23Speaker 5: And I do agree with Fred. I don't think it
- 34:25Speaker 5: was one guy. I think they were probably comfortable taking
- 34:28Speaker 5: in a way handful of them. I mean, that's you.
- 34:30Speaker 5: I mean, and Anthony's right.
- 34:32Speaker 2: If there was just one guy and they were just gambling, yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 2: then that's stupid. But I don't believe.
- 34:37Speaker 5: But I do think it was. It was a somewhat
- 34:39Speaker 5: of it. I don't think anywhere near as strongly as
- 34:41Speaker 5: Anthony about it, which is why even even I wasn't
- 34:44Speaker 5: willing to argue about it, and I still am not
- 34:46Speaker 5: willing to argue about it. But it was a risk
- 34:48Speaker 5: for the one hundred and twentieth pick. To me, it
- 34:50Speaker 5: wasn't worth risking losing any of the players that you liked.
- 34:55Speaker 5: If you could say that, like, there were three players there,
- 34:57Speaker 5: and I would have been happy with any of them. Well,
- 34:59Speaker 5: I want my choice any of the three, so you
- 35:01Speaker 5: risk losing one of them anyway.
- 35:04Speaker 4: I just can't imagine.
- 35:05Speaker 5: But the one hundred and twenty fifth, that's my point.
- 35:07Speaker 5: I just I don't feel strongly enough about it to
- 35:09Speaker 5: get mad about it. But it was a take a
- 35:11Speaker 5: needless as solus when if you know this happened, if it, well,
- 35:15Speaker 5: it didn't. Like so they they got the player, like
- 35:17Speaker 5: I have gripes about the whole rest of the draft
- 35:20Speaker 5: that are more important than arguing about whether or not
- 35:22Speaker 5: they should have taken them at fourteen. Because it's not
- 35:24Speaker 5: important to me and you doesn't mean it's not important
- 35:26Speaker 5: to other people. They they felt strongly about the guy
- 35:28Speaker 5: they took, and wish that the Patriots felt as strongly
- 35:31Speaker 5: like for you and me, like, I'm with you. It's
- 35:34Speaker 5: I understand why people are wondering about it. It's not
- 35:37Speaker 5: something that's keeping me up.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 7: But also, like all the calls you're making on draft dal,
- 35:40Speaker 7: all the teams you're in connection with, is it I mean,
- 35:43Speaker 7: you guys would know this better than I. But is
- 35:44Speaker 7: it plausible to imagine that the Patriots might have had
- 35:46Speaker 7: a really good idea who was going to go in
- 35:49Speaker 7: between those two texts, I thought they were okay possible.
- 35:52Speaker 2: It's you know that they knew that none of these
- 35:54Speaker 2: people would take Christian concerned.
- 35:56Speaker 5: I think it would be better.
- 35:57Speaker 2: More possible that they had a handful of guys that
- 36:00Speaker 2: any one of them they were happy at seventeen.
- 36:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and I just don't I think it would be
- 36:05Speaker 5: more believable if Washington didn't take a corner like Washington
- 36:11Speaker 5: taking a corner. They Yeah, they might have loved Forbes
- 36:14Speaker 5: because they didn't think there was any chance Gonzalez.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Was gonna be there, but Forbes is so much different.
- 36:18Speaker 5: May have liked Forbes better, but he's also a.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Much different player. Like this is where I think that
- 36:24Speaker 4: you know, we were talking about Keon White earlier. This
- 36:26Speaker 4: is where scheme matters in the draft because Forbes is
- 36:29Speaker 4: a zone corner. Forbes is a ballhawking zone corner that's
- 36:33Speaker 4: gonna play off and gonna gonna go and get the football.
- 36:36Speaker 4: He's not a pressman corner that you're gonna have shadow
- 36:39Speaker 4: receivers like Christian Gonzalez. So in Jack del Rio's system
- 36:42Speaker 4: in Washington, Forbes makes more sense for them than Christian
- 36:45Speaker 4: Gonzalez does from a schematic standpoint. So if you have
- 36:48Speaker 4: those two guys, now I didn't, but I'm looking at
- 36:51Speaker 4: it from a Patriots prism. But if they have those
- 36:54Speaker 4: two guys relatively close and the scheme fits better with Forbes,
- 36:58Speaker 4: then you're gonna go with Forbes. So I don't think
- 37:00Speaker 4: it's just comparing, right.
- 37:04Speaker 2: All right, we're going to take a break. Subs are here.
- 37:08Speaker 2: We'll be right back after we're full.

- 46:00Speaker 2: food to be served. You know, he comes walking up,
- 46:03Speaker 2: sits down and just puts the puts the sandwich in
- 46:06Speaker 2: the middle of the table.
- 46:07Speaker 5: If he wants to say that I walked through the
- 46:10Speaker 5: press box with attitude to let everybody know. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 46:14Speaker 5: that's I would absolutely i'd cop to that. Yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Did I put it down with it?
- 46:19Speaker 5: And then when you sat.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Down, what did you do?
- 46:20Speaker 5: I just put I put my sandwich down and sat
- 46:22Speaker 5: down and ate it. I wouldn't do that.
- 46:23Speaker 3: So you weren't trying to make a statement.
- 46:25Speaker 5: It is no, no, no, no, no. I necessarily say I
- 46:27Speaker 5: wasn't making a stake. Put it right in the middle.
- 46:29Speaker 5: I had one too many pieces of chicken with a
- 46:31Speaker 5: bone in it.
- 46:32Speaker 2: He put right in the It was it was a
- 46:34Speaker 2: you're paying and.
- 46:35Speaker 5: Everybody was pissed, but I was the only one that
- 46:36Speaker 5: did anything about it.
- 46:37Speaker 2: And we were cracking up, like like we were all
- 46:40Speaker 2: laughing because we knew what he was doing.
- 46:41Speaker 5: It's like I've had it. I literally I literally went
- 46:45Speaker 5: to the line, turned and said, I can't do this again.
- 46:47Speaker 5: I'm going I'm going to De Angelos and I went
- 46:49Speaker 5: to get a sub and I was back in ten minutes.
- 46:52Speaker 5: And they would die. The Friend's right, they would die
- 46:53Speaker 5: and laugh.
- 46:54Speaker 3: That might be be on steak Tips next week. That's
- 46:56Speaker 3: another great moment from.
- 47:00Speaker 19: I.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Like Paul, everybody was pissed, but I was the only
- 47:02Speaker 2: one that did anything about right, Like he's norma Ray,
- 47:04Speaker 2: you know, just making a stand.
- 47:06Speaker 3: It was like dropped the Michael and it was dropped
- 47:08Speaker 3: the sandwiches, like, you know, that's it.
- 47:10Speaker 2: It was very funny. More Chicken with the ball. It
- 47:12Speaker 2: was very funny, very funny. Back here and Patriots Unfiltered

- 47:43Speaker 2: in and web radio at Patriots dot Com. I've been
- 47:46Speaker 2: listening since two thousand and eight, and Paul, you've always
- 47:48Speaker 2: been my second favorite on the podcast, next to the
- 47:51Speaker 2: legend freddie K. It was extremely enjoyable listening to your
- 47:54Speaker 2: change of heart with Evan. You went from hating the
- 47:57Speaker 2: guy and pretty much calling him a fraud, which culminated
- 48:00Speaker 2: when you asked him why he isn't coaching in the NFL. Wow,
- 48:03Speaker 2: huge rocket shop. Please don't deny it. But after some
- 48:05Speaker 2: time he won you over and now you're clearly an
- 48:08Speaker 2: Evan fan. Nice job, Paul, I'm proud of you. Also,
- 48:12Speaker 2: I too, love the value of the booty pick.
- 48:15Speaker 3: I think probably would bristle at quite quite a couple
- 48:17Speaker 3: of things there from that email, but uh, well, but
- 48:20Speaker 3: he did he asked Evan. I mean, I think that's
- 48:22Speaker 3: a good question for Evan though, and I don't think
- 48:23Speaker 3: it was a shot. It's like, why don't you coach?
- 48:25Speaker 3: In the NFL. I just think, why don't you do
- 48:27Speaker 3: you have any aspirations to coach because he clearly loves
- 48:29Speaker 3: that side of the game so much. And I also
- 48:31Speaker 3: would say that I don't think that he's an amateur
- 48:33Speaker 3: but yet either, So both sides of the coin with
- 48:36Speaker 3: that one. But yeah, they're they're fun together.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Let's get to the phones, Patty and agawam's been holding on.
- 48:42Speaker 2: What's up, Patty and how you doing?
- 48:47Speaker 9: Pretty good?
- 48:48Speaker 20: Pretty good? I just want to sound white. I'm really
- 48:53Speaker 20: excitted about the Christian Dollars pick. And then they've never
- 48:56Speaker 20: taken a cornerback that high before to develop like we've gotten.
- 49:00Speaker 20: When Belichick got here, obviously had Ty Law. You know,
- 49:04Speaker 20: they had a Keith Khalib who kind of flamed out
- 49:08Speaker 20: in Tampa Bay that we resurrected his career Steph Gilmore.
- 49:12Speaker 20: Like you guys were saying during the draft, you know,
- 49:15Speaker 20: he was drafted pick number ten. I don't think he
- 49:17Speaker 20: ever really hit his peek until like midway through his
- 49:20Speaker 20: first year here. But I'm excited to see like what,
- 49:25Speaker 20: you know, what what he can be and do and
- 49:27Speaker 20: like like this year and next year, you know, and
- 49:31Speaker 20: throughout the life of this rick and contract and hopefully
- 49:33Speaker 20: I mean, if he's a player, they they they sign him,
- 49:38Speaker 20: you know, when a rookie deals up and they have
- 49:40Speaker 20: him stick around.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Absolutely, I think it's a good point by Patty, just like,
- 49:45Speaker 3: you know, because we've seen them take receivers. I guess
- 49:49Speaker 3: they kind of took Gilmore to the next level, but
- 49:52Speaker 3: certainly Revis was really good before he got here, and
- 49:54Speaker 3: he was really good here after, you know, a similar
- 49:56Speaker 3: kind of i'd say breaking in period. Curious what you
- 49:59Speaker 3: guys would say about that. But but you know, we've
- 50:00Speaker 3: also seen them take undrafted rookies and and changed them
- 50:03Speaker 3: into you know, starting caliber cornerbacks. I don't think we've
- 50:07Speaker 3: ever quite seen them get a ball of clay quite
- 50:09Speaker 3: like Christian Gonzalez, who's just so athletic. I mean, that's
- 50:13Speaker 3: one of the things I'm just excited to see is
- 50:14Speaker 3: just his athleticism on the field. You talk about like
- 50:17Speaker 3: Barmore's burst, like that's just something like his relentlessness that
- 50:20Speaker 3: just in training camp are like, man, this guy is
- 50:22Speaker 3: a handful. Just to see how Gonzalez moves in space,
- 50:26Speaker 3: how well he's able to match against, you know, coverage
- 50:28Speaker 3: against some of these guys and NFL players as a
- 50:31Speaker 3: rookie and he's twenty years old, so I mean you've
- 50:32Speaker 3: got him for five years, so yeah, you know, he's
- 50:35Speaker 3: just it's it's exciting to think where they possibly could
- 50:37Speaker 3: develop this kid with their track record and working with corners.
- 50:39Speaker 2: As far as I can remember, I mean, we've taken
- 50:42Speaker 2: cornerbacks in the first round, but never this high before,
- 50:45Speaker 2: and never one as highly rated as this guy. So
- 50:48Speaker 2: it'll be curious to see, you know, what a highly
- 50:51Speaker 2: rated cornerback looks like right out of the shoot and
- 50:53Speaker 2: training camp.
- 50:54Speaker 3: It's like, I mean even I remember as a kid
- 50:56Speaker 3: watching Ty Law out of the gate and just being
- 50:58Speaker 3: like this guy as are right immediately.
- 51:01Speaker 2: I guess, I'm I don't wreck myself.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Where did he get to selected? I guess I know
- 51:05Speaker 3: he was.
- 51:05Speaker 2: First round and he was pretty high out of Michigan.
- 51:11Speaker 3: I'm trying to think where he had he just looked
- 51:14Speaker 3: had the look.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Yeah he did, Yeah he did. And you know, and
- 51:17Speaker 2: I just remember when Revis got here, you know, like
- 51:20Speaker 2: even at his age, he just he just did it differently,
- 51:25Speaker 2: but it like he was twenty third yeah, but he
- 51:30Speaker 2: was highly rated.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, same kind of thing you could just tell
- 51:33Speaker 3: like he just has that look like you know, he
- 51:35Speaker 3: always had it. He always I mean, give him twenty
- 51:37Speaker 3: four too, and it's even better.
- 51:39Speaker 2: Uh, Dylan in South Carolina? What's up Dylan.
- 51:43Speaker 9: There?
- 51:44Speaker 6: Yep, kind of sorry, guys. I just wanted to call.
- 51:48Speaker 6: I'm listening all since I was fifteen years old. Wow,
- 51:51Speaker 6: And that's the first time I ever called in And yeah,
- 51:54Speaker 6: I pretty much raised my football line and I just
- 51:58Speaker 6: wanted to say thank you over the years, and it
- 52:00Speaker 6: blows my mind here after year where you guys get
- 52:03Speaker 6: rid of Eric and Andy and y'all continuously bring guys
- 52:07Speaker 6: in that are entertaining knowledgeable like Evan. I never would
- 52:10Speaker 6: have thought Evan Bazaar would be as big as he
- 52:13Speaker 6: is on this show. But he's one of the main
- 52:15Speaker 6: reasons that's to me. And it's kind of unfortunately his
- 52:18Speaker 6: phone call right now to let him know that, uh.
- 52:21Speaker 3: He doesn't.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Well, he'll hear it on the podcast.
- 52:26Speaker 3: He's probably listening right now, just in case we said
- 52:28Speaker 3: anything about him.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's great. Yeah, that is awesome, Dylan. Thank
- 52:33Speaker 2: you for listening since you're fifteen and in the compliments,
- 52:37Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 52:38Speaker 5: I would Yeah, man.
- 52:40Speaker 6: One last thing. I grew up in in South Carolina
- 52:45Speaker 6: where he's pretty pretty familiar with Stefan Gilmore. And when
- 52:53Speaker 6: I see Christian Gonzalez, I see a long, lanky corner,
- 52:57Speaker 6: uh man corner outside and uh, I think Bill Brolsk
- 53:02Speaker 6: is gonna do big things with him.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Let's hope that's great. We'll see how Thanks Dylan.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say too, just my own, like, since
- 53:10Speaker 3: Evan's not here, I'll give him a compliment. It was just,
- 53:11Speaker 3: I mean, it was fun getting to kind of get
- 53:13Speaker 3: pushed by him in the draft this year because he
- 53:16Speaker 3: knows so much. He just does so much work on
- 53:18Speaker 3: all these guys, and it's fun to come in and
- 53:21Speaker 3: you know, I would And we tried not to talk
- 53:22Speaker 3: too much because we didn't want to get like the
- 53:24Speaker 3: group think going. But it was really fun when we'd
- 53:26Speaker 3: kind of have, hey, Evan, let's talk about Devin Witherspoon,
- 53:29Speaker 3: you know, just bring in somebody that I had kind
- 53:31Speaker 3: of watched on my radar, and you know, to get
- 53:32Speaker 3: his point of view. And I mean, honestly, a lot
- 53:34Speaker 3: of the times we kind of had similar thoughts on guys.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's probably because both of us
- 53:39Speaker 3: were raised by kind of watching this team and what
- 53:42Speaker 3: this team looks for and what kind of players they like.
- 53:44Speaker 3: So I think our opinions are often similar, but he
- 53:47Speaker 3: just he does so much research and depth. That was
- 53:49Speaker 3: it was a huge asset to the draft show this year.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Let's see John at South Carolina says Paul's right, fans
- 53:56Speaker 2: are idiots. It's been two years in a freaked up
- 54:00Speaker 2: COVID year that screwed up everyone's plans. The Patriots have
- 54:03Speaker 2: had to replace their offensive coaching staff, defensive coaching staff,
- 54:07Speaker 2: and almost do a complete team rebuild. I feel all
- 54:09Speaker 2: the fans that are ready for a change at head
- 54:12Speaker 2: coach or one hundred percent delusional. When Brady left, I thought, well,
- 54:15Speaker 2: we have five tough years ahead. Bill Belichick's worst skill
- 54:19Speaker 2: is drafting talent, always has been, so I always expected
- 54:23Speaker 2: the rebuild to take more time. I never saw another
- 54:25Speaker 2: super Bowl before he retires. We are just spoiled love
- 54:29Speaker 2: the draft shows. The guy who turned it off can
- 54:32Speaker 2: falk off?
- 54:34Speaker 3: Okay, I mean like the video, I guess, I guess,
- 54:37Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 54:38Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know. Let's go to Willem
- 54:41Speaker 2: and philam what's up? Willem.
- 54:43Speaker 3: How are you doing, William?
- 54:45Speaker 2: Yeah all right, okay, Yeah, I'm okay, I'm okay, and.
- 54:51Speaker 16: I heard you, dude.
- 54:56Speaker 3: I'm ready, man, you got you bring it every cop
- 54:58Speaker 3: come on.
- 55:00Speaker 9: I'm okay, man.
- 55:01Speaker 11: I just oh god, you know.
- 55:05Speaker 9: It is what it is.
- 55:09Speaker 19: I had a question for Evan first, so I have and.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Evan's not here.
- 55:16Speaker 5: Right now.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Yeah, he's coming back with me.
- 55:19Speaker 18: Okay.
- 55:19Speaker 9: You talk about the quarterback that we I guess we
- 55:23Speaker 9: were done drafted, that we picked up with Malik kin
- 55:26Speaker 9: of hand.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, call him undrafted. Lamar Jackson runs like the
- 55:31Speaker 3: wind really really, I mean I'm intrigued by that. Like
- 55:34Speaker 3: he's got great speed. I think he's got some short
- 55:37Speaker 3: accuracy based on what I was research I did deep
- 55:40Speaker 3: ball not so much. But it's hard not to look
- 55:43Speaker 3: at him and just see him, you know, sprinting up
- 55:44Speaker 3: the middle on on the kind of Lamar Jackson plays,
- 55:46Speaker 3: and not at least be interested to see him in camp,
- 55:49Speaker 3: but also just wonder if there's you know, a roster
- 55:51Speaker 3: spot for him, maybe on the practice squad at least,
- 55:53Speaker 3: just to get him ready for like the fields that
- 55:55Speaker 3: the Lamars of the world that they just had no
- 55:57Speaker 3: answers for last year. So I don't know, but I'm intrigued.
- 56:00Speaker 3: I don't know if there's any kind of if anybody's
- 56:02Speaker 3: going to make the case of, oh, maybe he makes
- 56:03Speaker 3: some noise as a quarterback in camp. It seems like
- 56:06Speaker 3: generally people don't really think he's got that skill set.
- 56:08Speaker 3: But is this the kid run? And he's open to
- 56:10Speaker 3: a position change and they gave him I think that
- 56:12Speaker 3: was my question. So they gave him some money to
- 56:14Speaker 3: come here, so they they, you know, is.
- 56:16Speaker 2: There a possibility he could play another position?
- 56:18Speaker 3: And that's the reports going on yesterday that he's open
- 56:20Speaker 3: to that. So we'll see where he ends up. But
- 56:22Speaker 3: he's another guy that, you know, just interested to see
- 56:24Speaker 3: in camp for sure. And and I mean we talked
- 56:26Speaker 3: about DTR all the time, about getting a quarterback that
- 56:29Speaker 3: can run. This kid can't throw the ball like DTR can,
- 56:31Speaker 3: but but I think he can run, probably maybe a
- 56:33Speaker 3: little bit better than he.
- 56:34Speaker 9: Cankay, Okay, all right, thanks.
- 56:38Speaker 5: Thanks thanks one.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 56:44Speaker 11: Hey, I got a question. But NFL Network gave bial
- 56:52Speaker 11: a plus for the first date. I ain't for a
- 56:56Speaker 11: second date. In a A for the third day in draft.
- 57:00Speaker 11: Do y'all believe in that crap?
- 57:01Speaker 3: No?
- 57:03Speaker 2: I mean I believe they did it. But you know,
- 57:05Speaker 2: did they give anyone a really bad grade?
- 57:09Speaker 18: Yeah?
- 57:09Speaker 11: They gave Uh, I've got Detroit a C and and
- 57:14Speaker 11: some some other teams see but bs and but he.
- 57:17Speaker 11: But they gave bill an a plus doun dollars A
- 57:21Speaker 11: for the second day and a minors assume a mine
- 57:25Speaker 11: for the second day and A for the third day.
- 57:26Speaker 11: For the people they picked. I'm like, are you kidding?
- 57:29Speaker 11: Altum lineman and a punter you could have got received
- 57:32Speaker 11: in a tight end.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you didn't get to tackle.
- 57:37Speaker 11: I don't know, so I can't understand that.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Maybe it's just because they took ninety I mean I
- 57:41Speaker 2: don't I don't know if they're like basing it on
- 57:44Speaker 2: uh just the player rating or based on team needs
- 57:49Speaker 2: or you know, I don't know how they do. But
- 57:50Speaker 2: I don't put any stock in any of that now grades.
- 57:54Speaker 11: Uh one more question due, uh, I see we got
- 57:58Speaker 11: just two corners speed and and the dude out of
- 58:01Speaker 11: jeckt Now the train by training by about prime yep,
- 58:06Speaker 11: what do you think they fit in? Is they slow?
- 58:08Speaker 7: What?
- 58:09Speaker 8: Uh?
- 58:09Speaker 11: What they got them the sixth rounds?
- 58:11Speaker 2: What do you speed?
- 58:12Speaker 3: Ain't slow speed speeds? Speed's got four to three? Uh,
- 58:15Speaker 3: you know, I hate saying how they might be special
- 58:17Speaker 3: teams guys, but I do think that there's an, you know,
- 58:19Speaker 3: an opportunity. I think both guys have decent size that
- 58:21Speaker 3: neither one of them are as small as you know,
- 58:22Speaker 3: Marcus Jones or you know, Jonathan Jones, So they do
- 58:25Speaker 3: have that going for them. I just it's a it's
- 58:27Speaker 3: a kind of a weird cornerback group. I was looking
- 58:29Speaker 3: at it. There's some guys that people probably aren't aware
- 58:32Speaker 3: are on the roster named Quandrey Moseley and Rodney Randall
- 58:35Speaker 3: that were you know, some late season signing guys early offseason.
- 58:38Speaker 3: So uh, I don't have high expectations for those those
- 58:42Speaker 3: last two picks, but I do think that it's that
- 58:45Speaker 3: there might be some opportunity there. It's just it's like
- 58:46Speaker 3: all the special teams guys. There's so many special teams guys.
- 58:49Speaker 3: How's that all gonna play out? I tried messing around
- 58:52Speaker 3: with a fifty three man roster, right, I didn't find
- 58:54Speaker 3: it all that hard with guys I really wanted to
- 58:56Speaker 3: keep but it's all these you know, B level cornerbacks,
- 58:58Speaker 3: interior offensive lineman. How's that all gonna shakeout?
- 59:01Speaker 2: Thanks? Aldred, appreciate the call. Matt and Devin Uk writing
- 59:05Speaker 2: in at web radio at Patriot dot com first great
- 59:08Speaker 2: draft coverage, so thank you for that. It was great
- 59:11Speaker 2: having Evan during the process this year rather than Eric.
- 59:14Speaker 2: He was like upgrading Rex Grossman with Tom Brady. I've
- 59:19Speaker 2: got one statement and then a question. I said to
- 59:22Speaker 2: myself that if we managed to get Gonzales, then I
- 59:25Speaker 2: wouldn't complain about anything else that happened in the draft,
- 59:28Speaker 2: as we would have finally selected my favorite player but
- 59:30Speaker 2: also a talented player. But why did Bill have to
- 59:33Speaker 2: ruin it with the rest of the draft. I just
- 59:35Speaker 2: don't get why he doesn't take it seriously. My question
- 59:39Speaker 2: is for Paul who just walked in. Do you think
- 59:45Speaker 2: that we should trade for AJ Brown? As sure? What happened?
- 59:50Speaker 2: Who's deleting emails here? What is going on? Uh? Oh?
- 59:55Speaker 2: Like one by one these emails are being deleted. Wow,
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: right in front of it, like I'm not even touching.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Oh my god, that is so weird.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Someone wants to trade for A J. Brown?
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Again?
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: I don't think he's available, but yes, I would trade.
- 1:00:11Speaker 9: For a J.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: Brown, Yes I would.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: That's so weird that all these emails just get deleted anyway,
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: that's weird. Wow, I'll try another one, see what happens.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Mike writes in I have no problem with the draft
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: other than not grabbing a tight end. They appeared to
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: shore up the kicking game, added a few receivers that
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: potentially could fit drafted speed, which we all have been
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: complaining about them doing. It appears dougger and on when
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: you are out the door next year, I hope they
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: are both a priority.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: I mean, I'm with you. I mean, I'm probably with you.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: The writing's got to be on the album, Mike on
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: mind you, I don't, I mean, I don't want to
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: say he is gone. But if you look all three
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: of those guys to me, watch a little of those
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: three linemen they took on day three, they're all like
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: big Mike, They're all just big maulers that that kind
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: of style of play. It's not hard to see just
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: and I mean honestly, like that's how it should be.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: Like you shouldn't be franchising these guys like you should
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: be taking day three picks that have a year to
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: develop and then you plug them into the lineup and
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: you'll let these guys go. As for Douger, I don't know.
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: We'll see what Mapu looks like. I mean, Evin thinks
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: he's going to be a linebacker. I met him on
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: What's Friday. He don't look like a linebacker in person
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: to me, Like, I don't know, He's just he's thin.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: He's he's tall and thin. He's not He looks more
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: like a tall safety to me than than than a
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: than a small linebacker. So I know they asked Bill
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: about putting weight on him and all those kind of things.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: So I wouldn't I wouldn't sign off on Dougger just yet.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: I mean, he's still the youngest and probably in the
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: best of that group, unless unless they Dugger played.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: The mccordy position, or is that a waste of his athletic.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I mean I think he could. I just don't know
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: if it's making the best The best use of him
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: is his best skill is his physicality in the box.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: His size, I mean he's close to a linebacker size
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: at this point. I mean he hits like a truck.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: So hard to say I just I don't. I'm not
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: really too concerned about that Devin McCarty thing. I think
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: that they're going to have some combination of Jalen Mills
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: and Miles Bryant and Jonathan Jones and those three guys
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: who have been in the system for a while and
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: have played on the back end, and they'll kind of
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: do it paint by numbers and maybe eventually somebody emerges
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: as a full time free safety.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: But you can need that if you expect your free
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: safety to be sort of like the quarterback back there.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: It's better to have a guy than have a rotation,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: and it's always a different voice.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: I agree with you for I think it's more of
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: a mental thing, like whether or not a guy has
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: the physical skills. I think Mike's right. I think you
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: could probably have Jalen Mills back there. He might be
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: the guy mentally that's been around. He's you know, has experience.
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: Jonathan Jones clearly has the speed to do it and
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: it starts. So that's what I'm worried about with that spot.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: Not that Devin mccordy wasn't a good player too, but
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: you know, I think we got an FPFW today just
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: talking about how good the Patriots have been in recent years,
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: that you know, not allowing those big kind of plays,
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: and they really have and they creditedy. I would a
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: thousand percent agree with that, just being a big part
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: of the reason for that. Is that a concern And
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: I said, yes, you did it for ad It is
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: a concern because you're losing him for the first time
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: in a long time.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Paul, we had an email who was really congratulating
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: you on your evan evolution.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: I pushed back for you, Paul, on both things.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: I assume it was sarcastic enough, congratulating you a lot
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: of credit.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: The first point was that was that that you you
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: bought him out when you asked him if you ever
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: wanted to be an NFL coach, which I said wasn't
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: exactly true, like you that you were busting his chops,
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: that whytn't you go coach in the NFL? I said,
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: You didn't say NFL coach? He just said generally like
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: why aren't you into coaching?
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: Why do you waste your time with peons like me?
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: It was really the tone.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: And then the second one was like and now you
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: got now you love him, and now you guys, And
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't know if that one's true.
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Evan would push back on that.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Anyways, somebody gave you a compliment. Let's see. Enrique from Monterey,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Mexico was listening to your last podcast and I want
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: to make one observation, and Paul will back me up here.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Bill Belichick, yes, was Lawrence Taylor's coach, but just X
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: and O's the one that really had to handle Lawrence
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Taylor's off the field personality was Bill Parcells. For all
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: you younger people out there, you have no idea what
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: a nut job. Lawrence Taylor was coke addict, party goer, prostitution,
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: et cetera. And Parcells was the only one able to
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: bring him down back to his senses. Belichick learned to
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: deal with difficult players from Parcels. That could be true, Okay,
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Belichick learned a lot more from Parcels than you think.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure you know, how could he not?
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: I mean, wow, I've always said that.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Okay, Bill Parcells is the Hall of Fame football coach,
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: just not in the Patriots hallay.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: So, and how long was Bill with him? I mean
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: like eighty four to ninety something, like that somewhere in there.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: I mean probably close to a decade, right.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: I'm not show one the numbers. Let's see, Adam writes
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: in he is from Louisiana.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: Maybe I don't know.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Super optimistic about the draft this year. Gonzalez is going
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: to be a stud our next lockdown corner for the
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: next five to seven years. Second point out of three.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Any idea when the preseason schedule comes out, I would
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: assume soon since the regular season is released next Thursday, it.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: Could be this. I mean opponents usually come first, I think,
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: and I mean it could come this week, I would guess.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: I think next Thursday is when the cover before or after.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: I mean, the preseason schedule isn't done the same way
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: as the regular schedule. It's done between the teams with
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: some league guidance because some of the games are national.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: But you know, it could come before, you know, the
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: regular season, or could come just right after it, you know.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I remember getting like sometimes and they
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: tell you, like, then it'll be this day like they
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: give you.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: They give me the weekend yeaheah, it's like August eighth
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: through eleventh.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Yeah, or anytime between six pm and eight pm. You know,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: they sometimes they don't know that because the teams are
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: hashing it out because of concert conflicts and stuff like that.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: And finally, who do we think we open with? I
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: think it'll be Primetime versus the Jets. Well, I do
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: think it's interesting.
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: Against the Jets would not be the dumb pick. That's
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: I like what the emailers thinking that.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: I do think it's interesting that there was some type
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: of delay in getting the schedule done up in the
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: league office because they were waiting to make Lamar official
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: and to make Rogers right.
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: Yeah, and then that insight from Fred Kirk.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Once that became official, it's like, Okay, we need to
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: get more Jets games in prime time and we need
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: to have Ravens games in prime time because and I
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: understand that.
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: Yeah, let's you know, freddy kersh well, if you will,
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: you win those meetings meeting.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: No, they don't include me in those meetings.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: They don't include me in any meetings.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Surprising.
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: No, that makes total sense. I didn't. I don't really
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: give the schedule a whole lot of thought. Obviously, I
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: like it. I think you got to make center.
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: That obviously the division opponents and we know what the
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Jets have done and what the buzz is and I mean,
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: I love when they pick games that kind of feed
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: from the offseason narrative of like, all right, this is
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: all kind of building and the Jets going to jump
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: the Patriots and you know, put the Patriots down into
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: into third or fourth place or fourth place.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: I like it.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: I like it, Jack and an Aba. By drafting three
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: interior alignment in the middle rounds, are the Patriots indicating
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: they are going to move Cole Strange to left tackle.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: I'll tell you what though, I mean, cold Strange does
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: not look like those three guys they drafted, and they
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: played left guard and right guard, and I know cheese.
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: I can't, I can't. I don't have all their names
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: right off the top of my head just yet.
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: City Soal played some tackle, but City Sal's the oldest
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: of the other guy.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: City Sale is going to be twenty five next month,
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: so he's old. I know it's going around fifty five
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: something played a ton, So I don't know, but I
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: I didn't totally. I'm not gonna lie. I did think
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: a little bit about like is this some kind of
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: cold strange?
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: I threw I threw it out there on Saturday, and
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: I was summarily dismissed really by you use guys, not
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: so much because you don't do that to me. I
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: just find it. They drafted a couple of backup They
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: drafted two day three offensive lineman last year. They draft
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: three day three offensive linemen this year. I can't imagine
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: that that's just about Michael and you, right like, because
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: they're all basically interior guys. Like four out of five
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: of those guys, I would say Andrew Steuber is probably
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: a tackle ye like the other the other four guys
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: are interior guys. So yeah, it's probably an indication that
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: they didn't love chasing Hines, But it's also an indication
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: that they're worried about the guys as they have the
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: starters that they have. David Andrews is what thirty.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: One thirty one injury issue issues.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: You know, And I just do I think Cole Strange
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: is going to lose his starting job. No, I don't,
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: but I don't think it's just something that you just
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: dismissed is out of hand.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: But you've got somewhere to go now if you had
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: had to bench him again, And I mean and if
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: you're thinking about replacing Andrews, I think correct me if
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: I'm wrong. But didn't he get pulled from a couple
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: of games that Andrews was missing from, So you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: maybe you wonder how reliant on the veteran was he
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: to make him look better last year?
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: That was the narrative Scott and Florence Mass speaking of
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Cold Strange.
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: Florence Mass, I'm not familiar with Florence Florence.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: There is a lot of criticism of Belichick as a GM,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: which I think is deserved. However, a fair amount of
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: that criticism recently's focused on the first round selection of
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Cole Strange in last year's draft as evidence of Strange
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: as a failed pick. People will often point out that
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: he was benched a few times during the past season.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: I find this criticism annoying. Everyone knew that Cole Strange
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: was an athletically gifted but undersized guard from a small school,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: and that was and that he was likely to experience
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: some growing pains before reaching his full potential. Plus he
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: was thrown into a dysfunctional offense without an experienced line
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: coach or coordinator. My memory is that the offensive line
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: itself was unsettled for parts of the year due to
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: injury or poor play among the other players. Strange is
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: reported to be a hard working athlete, and he seems
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: to be a decent human being. He himself has said
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: that he needs to gain weight during the offseason, and
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: I'm assuming that he's on a training program to achieve
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: that goal. Criticize Belichick as a GM all you want. Myself,
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: I've never recovered from the dominic easily pick but to
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: criticize Cole Strange as a player at this stage seems stupid.
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: Well, he was a first set. Let me ask you something.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: Is it stupid to credit Marcus Jones as a player?
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: To credit him, Yeah, to say he's a good player,
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: is that stupid? Now say I'm happy with that player?
- 1:10:58Speaker 14: No?
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: Is that dumb?
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: No?
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: No? Why because he is? Because he played well? Yeah,
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: And it's just as it's just as fair to suggest
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: when a guy doesn't play well.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: But it would be stupid to say that's how Marcus
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Jones is going to be for the rest of his career.
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: No one's saying that, and neither was anybody saying that
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: Cole Strange can't play. But they say he struggled as
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: a rookie and he was overdrafted Paul, and that's a
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: bad pick. Some people say it's a bust. Yes, it's
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: not a bus. Year one was a bust.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: That's not what I just said.
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: And you know it, Okay, Well what do you think
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: is going to happen? I don't think he's gonna end up.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: Being like a first round but I think I think
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: it's just as stupid to say I know he's going
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: to be a pro bowler as I know he's going
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: to be a bust. Same way with Marcus Jones.
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: It's not just as stupid to say the second part
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: because he was a bust in year one. He wasn't
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: anywhere near a force.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Well, he wasn't a bus.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: He was fred. Oh, come on for one year. Like,
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: I'm not saying that ends his story as a player.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: I didn't say, you said, but in year one he
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: was in and out of the lineup due to performance.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: And I like the email or said we knew he
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: was going to struggle.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: No I didn't. I don't pick first round picks as
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: plug and play guys that I know are going to struggle.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Listen, listen.
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: Then it's a bad pick. It's not one of the
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: two has to be true.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Well, we'll know it's a bad pick in a few years,
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: but right now, you can't say.
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: This is my whole thing about offensive Lineman. It's why
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: you can get away with taking offensive Lineman because no
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: one will ever call him a bust.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: You just did.
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: I will, but no one. Paul is the only one. Now.
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: Now he's going to completely change the narrative of this argument.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: Be snucky, make fun of me. Everybody laughs at him,
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: and then we're just people. Do not declare offensive Lineman
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: as readily bust you as Nikhil Harry. You are not
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: on It was Nikhil Harry a bust. Youre not Nikil
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: Harry a bust. Okay you was it okay to call
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: him the bust after one year?
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: No?
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: Okay, it was your consistent.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: It's not okay.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: What do you think he's going to be cold strange?
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: I think he's going to be a fine NFL player, Okay,
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: I don't okay, I don't think he has fine NFL skills,
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: you know. I think I think he's gonna be okay once.
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: He I don't think he'll be as good as Isaiah Win.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I disagree with that he just stays healthy.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: Yeah, he could win that. I'm hesitant to call him
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: a bus put me in the in that anti one
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: just because he played every game. I mean, but I'm calling.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: Him the bust today. I'm saying he's going to be
- 1:13:22Speaker 5: a a bus. Last year was a bus. I don't
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: think there's any argument against that. But I think he
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: is trending to that direction, not to the All Pro
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: A Pro Bowl. Sorry, and Fred said Pro Bowl, And
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: I would.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: Say to the emailer's point, We've seen some video of
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: him this offseason. He looked the same size to me,
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: so you know, I don't know what we were expecting,
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: but I do think that he'll be like he's a
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: target because he was overdrafted. But I think it is
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: worth pointing out.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll always be a target, but he's always going
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: to be considered to be fine because he's always going
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: to be playing until he's no longer a Patriot, just
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: like Isaiah Winn did, who was never really good but
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: was always considered to be fine.
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: But that's not until until they decided I don't want
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: to playing anymore. When he got hurt.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: That's not true either. I think when problem was as
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: much as I want to an attitude as his ability,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: I think when he he had good games, you know,
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: I think he's a.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: Talent, had better games than Cole Strange did.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's a talented player, and I think
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: you know, it goes beyond.
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: But like to your point, like, this is one of
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: those things that we'll argue about, probably for three years,
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: because that's that's what you and I do, and we
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: enjoy it. You're going to say he's going to be
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: a fine player, and I'm going to say he's fine,
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: and we're going to mean totally different things. Right, Like,
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: to me, fine for for a first round pick is
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: an indictment.
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: No, I listen, and I think he'll be fine.
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: I'm not because he's a guard and it doesn't matter.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that they should
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: have picked him where they picked him.
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: But that's all the emailers. But that doesn't mean fighting
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: against that's all the emailer is fighting against people saying
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: that it wasn't where he should have been picked and
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: you agree.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I agree with that.
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: So he's he's arguing with you and me because we
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: agree on that.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: Yes, it is part of it all back around that was perfect.
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: Yeah, Like this is not about like the guy can't
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: tie his shoes and get on the field, Like I
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: think that it's just readily apparent when a skilled position
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: guy can't like Nikhil Harry, Like it never looked Mike,
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: the first day of training camp was the year before
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: you got here, right, Yeah, like the like you could
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: see it in the spring, like this guy I can't play.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: It will never look like that for an offensive lineman
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: as long as he's playing. No one will ever say
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: that because they don't know.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: And that's and that's the same thing like watching the
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: three guys that they just drafted, I'm like, what's wrong
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: with these guys? These guys look fine, Like I don't
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: you know, Like I could watch Cole Strange's film and
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: be like, I don't know. They all seem like they
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: got a nasty attitude. They love to throw guys down
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: to the ground.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: Because an average guys like you and me will watch
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: City Sow and Michael Owenu and not see the differences.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to bring Greg Bridard on the show.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: That's all correct.
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: Bring Greg and they can have their little talk and
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: they and they can break it all down and they'll
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: tell you why you're wrong. They're little talk, little talks
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: of monstrous. They'll have their talk and they'll tell you
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: why you're wrong and.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: Hand when you what was it?
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: Hand placed violence, footweark quick strike, drop and drive, pin
- 1:16:17Speaker 5: and pull, Like I mean, I can. I can make
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: up terms too, Like it doesn't mean that I know
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: how to use them.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: You know one show, you know how we used to
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: do things to set up Eric, Like, you know, we
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: should do a show where we come on and we
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: come up with all these fake terms and see like
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: if if Evan like chalk like says you guys don't
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: know what you're talking about, or if he's like nodding
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: his head.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: Like we do like cover twelve. Yeah, like I mean,
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: look like cover twelve to me, make up some coverage
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: or something.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: Just yeah, he was doing it.
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: There's only eleven guys in the field.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: You know, he was doing a hybrid Z zone, you know,
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: where he's asked to battle.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Look like it to me, for it, you know, look
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: like it to me.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: But like, you know what My point is, my my
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: snart narc aside. My point is average football people like
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: Bill Belichick will look at tow lineman and certainly be
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: able to tell you the difference average guys can't. But
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: you can watch two wide receivers average guys and say, yeah,
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: that guy's much quicker in and out of his breaks,
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: that guy is much better hands. That guy just looks
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: like he's like you could see it. Yeah, that's my
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: point that I'm trying to make.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: Let's see. Somebody earlier emailed about what an improvement having
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Evan on the Draft show was I. He says, after
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: what felt like a lifetime of dealing with Eric Scalavino's
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: lack of caring at all about football and pompous arrogance,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: you had an opportunity to replace him.
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: Okay, is happening again all the like, Okay, I just
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: want to stay as.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: I sit here, emails get deleted.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: I love the fact that we had Evan on the
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: draft coverage this weekend for entirely different that I that
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: I won't share on publicly. But if we're going to
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: criticize the guy who left for his pompous arrogance and
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: we're not going to point out the fact that the
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: guy had that would replace him had a temper tantrum,
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: because he's insisting that he knows more about football than
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: Bill Belichick and wants Bill Belichick gone. That's to me
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: a little bit of a disconnect. And I said all
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: this with Evan by the wag, like you want Bill,
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: like you said it to him right on the show,
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: but you want Bill out. You think you know more
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: than Bill, and he didn't die it, right.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: I mean the modern game.
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: Like somehow he's convincing himself. The picks that he agrees
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: with are Mac gropicks.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: Did you notice how we tried to do that too,
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: Like the Gonzales pick. It's clearly no, no, no, no, you trade
- 1:18:47Speaker 5: down from fourteen to seventeen to get picked one twenty.
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: That's like a picture of Belichick in the draft dictionary, right.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: It's like us doing the profiles they rotate. You know,
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: Mac gets a pick, I get a pick, Steve Belichick
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: gets a pick, and except for.
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: Billy O gets not.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: And again you're just I go back to what you
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: Rod Mayo said after you know, after the pick, we're
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: glad that coach made the pick because I know the
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: room was thinking he's going to trade down again. Yea,
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: you know, give us or something give us our guy. Yeah,
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Bill and Vista, California. The drafts over and we can
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: now impatiently wish for the preseason to be here before
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: we start impatiently wishing for the regular season to get here.
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: I just saw I just found out. Remember when we
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: impatiently waited for the AFC Championship game.
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: No, I hated that that was the worst part of
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: the effort.
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: Those are those of the I do I do When
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: when Andy and I would argue with Fred about the
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: things that were worry someone on the roster, and Fred
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: would get mad, saying like, what are you talking about? No, no, no, no,
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: you gotta stand in We're talking about things that could
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: potentially prevent them from hosting the ABC Championship right, And
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: Fred would be oh, okay, all right.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: I just saw and found out that Mapu is a
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: nephew of Junior. Say, I'll call it wishful thinking, but
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: now I have a higher hope for the kid. It
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: had me thinking, what are some NFL royalty talent you
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: wish worked out or some you see as being future
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: stars like Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: Oh god, uh, I find that an odd like you
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: gonna hear on Teddy Bruski's kids Paul, and you find
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: out that kid Map who is related to makes you
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: feel better about the pick.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: He only made. Well, you know, pedigree, it can't help
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: you met him once. No, I know, but it's the blood,
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: it's the gene. It's that's what he's talking about.
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: Was he really like an uncle? I know, I know,
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: love that like his father's brother.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: Like it's one of those lifelong friends kind of thing.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Right, this is your uncle, Junior.
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: I got a few of those, you know, like friends
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: of ours. It's called Mike. I'm like, you're not really
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: your uncle.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, these emails, why they I don't know what. Something's
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: going on. Somebody has they don't like you. Somebody has
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: access to this thing or something. I don't I don't
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: know what the hell.
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: I'm deleted on my end.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: No, but this is supposed to be my box, so
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: I don't know how anyone could even get in here.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: Somebody's messing with Fred's box.
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: Fred's box alone, let's see Matt's like.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Jake and Bendingo Australia. After letting the draft sit for
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: a couple of days, I finally come around to how
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: we drafted. Now to the offense. We have Billy Oh
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: in the building. We acquired minimal offensive pieces through the draft.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: We are putting a massive amount of faith in Billy
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Oh and him turning the around with what we have
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: come the end of the next season, we make the playoffs. Excellent,
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: we missed the playoffs. Who is getting thrown under the bus? Then?
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: MATC for not producing, Billy Oh for not getting the
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: team where we needed, or do I say it? Dare
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: say it Bill Belichick for not setting the team up
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: to win.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: So you think that they have to make the playoffs
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: or someone's gotta next year? Yeah, someone's got to go.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he's who gets the blame.
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: I mean, it depends on what it looks like.
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: I think if you only one out of those three
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: that even has a chance to not be around, is
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: Mac really? Yeah?
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: Okay, well that's something to think about with the fifth
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: year option. I mean, I'd love to.
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: Be in a fourth year though, Like, you just have
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: to make the decision, right, That's what I mean?
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: Though?
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: Like is that?
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: I mean, I think Mac will be back next year too,
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: But I mean Billy Oh's not going anywhere, and Belichick's
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: not going anywhere unless something happens. They're not getting rid
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: of those two guys unless something happens, like yeah, with
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: them individually, like they did something. It's I mean, it's
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: that's just how I feel. I don't get anybody's going away.
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: It's just getting interesting. I mean, it's getting the teams
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: are getting good jets. I mean, it's it's going to
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: be quite the year.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: Let's see. Paully p says I said nothing. So with
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: plenty of time to go back over the draft and
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: think about the Patriots picks, I'm sold on every pick
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: but two. No matter how hard I try, I just
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: cannot like the key on White pick. Every play I
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: watch just seems to take away way too long to
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: get to the ball carrier. I don't see him being
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: very effective getting his hands on athletic quarterbacks in today's NFL.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: He looks like he's running in sand way too often.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Even though I watched all his snaps against Broderick Jones
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: and White won a lot of the pass rush reps,
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: he was nowhere close to getting to the quarterback in time,
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: and Jones had no problem moving White in the run game.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: I think White has bust written all over him. The
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: second pick is kind of a combination of two picks
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: close together. Hearing today that they want to try Sao
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: at tackle, I can't help but think the right move
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: in the fourth round would have been to take Dewan
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: Jones instead of Jake Andrews, and then either take Andrews
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: at one seventeen instead of Soo. Jones has physical gifts
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: that Sao just doesn't have and will be a starting
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: right tackle at some point this season in Cleveland, like
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Evans said, if you want a receiver, just draft a receiver.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: If you want to right tackle, draft a six 't eight,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: three hundred and fifty nine pounds freak, not a guard
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: who it was a long shot to even play the position.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: All in all, I love the draft.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: However, I just don't know, I mean, took it how
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: far to want Jones dropped in so many It's just
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: it's so on display what group think happens during the
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: draft and all of our like mock drafts and our
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: big boards and it like it. It's always kind of
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: the same guys, you know, and a lot of the
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: guys they drafted were nowhere on my radars certainly, And
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: you know, it's just it's hard. It's hard to know
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: what the heck they're gonna do.
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: But did someone come out and say that they were
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: intended on playing soo at tackle?
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: No, I think that was a breer thing, a breer
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: in his notes, just saying that he had played there. Well,
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: he played that, but like that maybe that he could that.
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: Was just a I get the sense that they might
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: work them out at tackle. What is it this summer.
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: Like he played it. He's Eastern Michigan, right, Yeah, he
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: played at Eastern Michigan. Hasn't played tackle.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: In four years I think nineteen.
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: I thought it was eighteen.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, they'll put him there in shorts and see
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: what he looks like if he looks the part Evan's back.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: How was Juju good?
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: Yeah? I was a little faster than Myers.
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: He said he's the slowest receiver on the team, not
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: even kidding. He was kidding, obviously, but he might be Anyways,
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: he was great.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: I think he genuinely seemed excited to be here, was
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: maybe even a little bit surprised at how much he
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: likes it here already. I think you know the thing
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: that he said that stood out to him or that
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: has really made it great here is just the people
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: on the offense, the receivers in that receiver room. I
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: think he's had a good time with a lot of
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: those guys, and they've had a good time together off
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: the field. At Celtics game last night, bowling a couple
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: of weeks ago. The one thing that he did mention
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: was that, you know, in the free agency process, that
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: that Belichick was a big draw for him to come
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: play here, and that the Patriots had met with him
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: a little bit in the pre draft process come out
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: of USC and it all kind of came full circle
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: this offseason when they showed interest. But I think the
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: one thing that maybe surprised me a little bit is
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: I thought we were maybe we're going to get this
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: Judon type personality, like big, loud, you know, a lot
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: of energy, and he he had had swagged some personality
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: to him, but he wasn't very loud or demonstrative like
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: like Judon is. You know, Judon's a is he.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: Silly at all? That stuff is just that J's silly.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: A little bit. You know, he was joking around with us.
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: You know, someone asked him, what would you say are
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: your best attributes at as a receiver? And he was like,
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: slow can't block, you know, like he was messing with
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: the reporters. So there was a little bit of that
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: going on, I think. And he did mention Joe Toney
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: and being somebody that he really enjoyed playing with in
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: Kansas City and maybe had a few conversations with with
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: Tuney about coming here to New England before he he
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: signed here. But like I said, he genuinely seems almost
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: taken aback about how much fun he's having here. I
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: think all the noise outside the building is always that
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: it's so serious and they don't have any a good time,
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: they don't have any fun, and I think he's a
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: little bit surprised at how much fun he's having. And
- 1:27:15Speaker 4: I think, you know, the one thing he did say
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: about the playbook was that the he thinks that they
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: deserve a college degree for the amount of studying that
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: they have to do to learn this playbook. And at
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: first when I said that, I was like, okay, But
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: then what I thought about it some more. I didn't
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: hear a lot of that last year about the playbook
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: and how come you know, oh it was it's so complex,
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: and you know, he said he's making flash cards.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: But it is interesting that he's saying that coming from
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: Kansas City, which I would think would have a really
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: thick playbook.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: Yeah, so he said that, you know, he's going to
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: go home after this and actually study more and put
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: a couple more hours in, And he said he's making
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: flash cards and he's doing all this this homework to
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: learn the offense. So he definitely talked about the complexity
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: and the just the volume of the playbook, which, like
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: Mike just said, I didn't hear any of that last year.
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: So I think this is a whole different ballgame as
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: we would expect with Bill O'Brien. It's a we got
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: a PhD playbook. Again, this is not this is not
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: just playing fast.
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: Right, Paul? Did you make it of monsters and men? Reference?
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: I did?
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: Oh? What was it? I did? David wants to compliment
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: you on it?
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: Oh, I forget now we're talking about monsters.
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: What's this of monsters and men? What is that?
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: Like a obscure group?
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: Oh, it's not a kid's movie. I know of and men?
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: But it's a song that was like a top It
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: was like a Top forty song. I can't think of
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: it now, all.
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: Right, But you're just throwing out references.
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: What is it of monsters?
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: Of monsters and men? Let's get back to the a
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: stick of hotline eight five five pass five.
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: The name of the song Little Talk was one Little
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: Little Talks is the top forty.
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: And Fresno. What's up? Speed?
- 1:29:08Speaker 21: Hey, how's it going?
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: Uh?
- 1:29:11Speaker 21: That that uh cole Strange talk before was pretty interesting
- 1:29:14Speaker 21: even it was before while you were away. But yeah,
- 1:29:17Speaker 21: like that, like I wonder how Menkins would have looked
- 1:29:20Speaker 21: in the Patrios offense last year. It's kind of like
- 1:29:23Speaker 21: a difficult comparison because what Megan's was was his first
- 1:29:27Speaker 21: year five am I right? Yeah, so like that, obviously
- 1:29:32Speaker 21: he's on a better team all around.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: So but I mean it's not even a comparison.
- 1:29:37Speaker 21: It's kind of like hiding.
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:39Speaker 21: No, they're both first round picks at that position.
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: No, but I'm not talking about we're talking about two
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: entirely different things. I'm saying that you can play as
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: a rookie offensive lineman and you're you're not really going
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: to get a lot of criticism unless Bill does what
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: he did with Cole Strange and takes him out of
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: the lineup. Ye, which tells everybody sure, you know he's
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: he's up and down. Yeah, he was telling everybody if
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: he just played every snap of every game, everybody said,
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: a rock solid rookie year for Cole Strange could have
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: played the same exact caliber. But no one's gonna look
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: at it the same way as we looked at as.
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: My comparison continues to be Nikhil Harry, who from the
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: moment he stepped on the field as a patriot, did
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: not look good. He didn't look smooth. You could see it,
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: like even idiots like me, I was actually crediting you
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: for your pin and poll pop, you know, your little
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: violence with the first step, Like I said, leave that
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: what that's this is how we got I go leave
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: that to the little talks or Greg and Effan. And
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: that's when I said, little talks of monsters and men,
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: that's what That's how I came That's how that came up.
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: What I'm saying, most most people just watch yeah, and
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: like I will absolutely put myself in this category. I'm
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: not watching the offensive lineman breaking it down. Bill can
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: watch Michael Owenu and Cole Strange and tell you every
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: reason why MICHAELWNU was more effective at guard last year
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: than Cole Strange was. I can't other than when they
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: just get beat on a blitz, you know, like but
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: on I can watch Nikhil Harry and tell you why
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: he wasn't as good as Jacobi Myers when they were
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: both rookies.
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: Right, yeah, he Cole Strange had a good end of
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: the year. I thought he finished well and that maybe
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: is optimistic in terms of what he'll come in in
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: year or show at a decent end of the season,
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: really good game against Pittsburgh early on.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: He'll be fine.
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: But there was some I think the conversation around him
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: and this the outward Oh you know they hit on
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: Cole Strange. I would calm down with that. Oh, you
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: can't say that his rookie year was up and down.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: You cannot say that. But my I got into an
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: eye with Paul because I said, you can't. Also, you
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: can't say it's a bus he's.
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: And I don't say that he's a bust now I
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: think I don't. I said last year was bust like,
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: but I can't say that after one year.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: He certainly said all the right things that the at
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: the draft party the other night, I think he said
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: that he is looking to gain about twenty pounds of
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: muscle in the off season, because that was the biggest thing.
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: Was just NFL power right, big guys that Quentin Williams
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: types that were just getting right into him and pushing.
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: Him over the forest buckner.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: Yeah, those are those guys. Get him a handful, that's what. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: the run game. I think the bigger concern was balanced
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: and ending up on the ground a little bit too
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: often because he's being over aggressive and trying to get
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: out of his stance and firing out and then he's
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: getting head over heels. But yeah, the power rushers, the
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: interior guys pushing him the pocket was a big problem.
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: I said, thanks, I saw him. We saw him at
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: that party, and I said, I don't really, I don't
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: see twenty pounds on there yet. Maybe that's a work
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: in pro totally.
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: May, totally May to May.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: You can learn nutrition at the NFL.
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: Get those milkshakes, skinless Chicken. Anthony writes in I assume
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: that in the second tenure of Josh McDaniels as OC,
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: they'll probably let Josh hand most of the offensive game
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: plan and probably just gave the thumbs up most of
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: the time and trusted him. Do you feel he will
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: have the same trust now. I'm quite sure he has
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: had his hands all over last year's disaster. So now
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: will he focus more on defense, excuse me and the
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: overall team little Jersey Mike's coming.
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: I just the thing that I that interests me is
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: I think that the changes to the offense last year
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: obviously were Bill's decision, and I think the philosophical changes
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: not so much like what did you install it, but
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: like the overall like down the field, trying to make
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: big plays. Like philosophically, I felt like there was an
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: evolution last year as much as there was they put
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: Maddy p in charge. So I just wonder how much
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: of that Bill influence of you know, is it him
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: saying to compete right now in this league, we have
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: to push the ball down the field consistently. That's the
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: only like because to me, every time we went out
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: there in training camp, those were the only plays that
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: they that they made, and that was never really the
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: case in previous training camp. So I don't know. I
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: assume to Evan's point about the play thing, that Bill
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: O'Brien just came in and took the last year's playbook
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: and dropped it in the trash and he's like, this
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: is mine now. But I still would think that Bill
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: has some kind of influence on what direction he wants
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: the offense to go with Mac.
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: And certainly like Bill needs to talk to, you know,
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: all the offensive coaches that were here last year to
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: find out, Okay, who's good at what?
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: Who do I have here? Yeah?
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: You know, like who are the players that I have
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: to work with? And like you can't throw out everything
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: from last year.
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: You know, so throw it all out, every last piece
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: of it.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: But I mean, like, you know, there's basic players that
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: are going to be in anything.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: Light it up like a match and say a prayer.
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: But you know, even go back to like the selection
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: of Thornton, you know that's not really usually one of
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: their kind of guys. Like I just I don't connect
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: all of that. Just to Matt Patricia, I think that
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: that was, you know, part of a bigger sea change
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: that's going on offensively, or at least that they're trying
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: to employ that they think they need to do to
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: you know, get from whatever that Josh's version of the
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: offense was to you know, something different, whether that's mac
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: whether it.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: There's a little bit of Macro in there too, I
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: think because every time we talked to Macro about evolution
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: in the sport, I think he talks a lot about
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: speed and athleticism and that being where the league is going.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: And I think a lot of their draft picks all
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: over the field, not just offense but defense too, have
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: pointed to I mean, Gonzalez runs a four to three
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: eight MAPU is this new age hybrid linebacker safety type
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: of player. So I think a lot of their moves
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: have been to get faster everywhere.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: Audrey says, great draft shows again, I will always listen
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: to you live. My top choice, and Mike was even
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: funny this year, much less stress.
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: Audrey's always out my butt.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I must say, you may finally have some competition.
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: The Rich Keith Live Draft party was excellent, featuring opals,
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Andy and Fitzie. They were jacked up on energy draints,
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: especially Andy. They didn't tip picks and reacted to each
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: one live. It was hilarious, definitely worth listening to the
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: day after on the podcast.
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: This is what you guys always do? You change arm
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: I wonder if he asked him about tides that was
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: my fits. He's like, Oh, I'm on the Draft show
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: with any and I'm like, if you can slip in
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: something about rivers.
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: Head, Yeah, I mean when FITZI, you know, he's not
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: one to have short sentences. Conciseness is not part.
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: Of his uh with a couple and then going.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: On energy drinks, I mean, forget it. I mean, I
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: don't know how Rich Keith would get a word in
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: edge wise.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: Is that a big Andy thing? Energy drink? Andy?
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: Is that?
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: Oh?
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: He would come in familiar.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: Fred started it. He brought in five hour energies for
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: all of us for.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: The Draft shows. Oh yeah, but Andy would come in
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: and he'd be like bouncing off the wall. Then last
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: hour he's just like he's like sleeping, you know, like
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: a baby in a crib. Yeah.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: I can't imagine he would be I can't imagine low
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: energy Andy like on a on a show.
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: Oh yeah, he would crash right over in that corner
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: where you're sitting right now. He just he would just
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: end it.
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: Just eat his food, pushes Mike away, eat his food
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: and shut her down.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: Let's see Johnny. Johnny writes in Daddy, I want to
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: thank you Fred for almost making me choke on my lunch,
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: laughing at my box comment, and then Deuce and Paul
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: with the future clip for Matt to edit. Evan is arrogant,
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: he says, he's like Miranda Cosgrove in School of Rock.
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: But that's why he's going to be the next chefter.
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: Put the work in and it shows.
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: Miranda Cosgrove in school.
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: I know, I appreciate the backhanded compliments, but yes, she.
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: Eventually the principal. No, no, she's one of the students.
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: That's true. You guys eventually get me to come around
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: on things.
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: She eventually comes around. Yeah. Someone, So there's another shot.
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: I took it you. I like to be up front.
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: With I appreciate that. At least it's not backhanded compliments.
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: As as I said before, most of the stuff I
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: was saying, I've already said to you, But this one
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: was new. Someone called it down. Someone called it and
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: said what a great addition that Evan was to the
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: draft shows, to which we all agreed. I agreed for
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: a reason I couldn't share on air, because it allowed
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: me to do far less. That's why that's why I agree.
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: But in all seriousness, he said, after years of listening
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: to arrogant. Eric not have any time for it. I said, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: If we're going to criticize the guy who left for
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: being arrogant and not recognize the guy who replaced him
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: as thinking he knows more than Belichick and being all
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: pissy when he didn't pick the guys that he wanted
- 1:38:23Speaker 5: to pick. And I said at the time, I said,
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: and I mean Evan will agree because I said to
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: him on the show, you think you know more than
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: Bill when you want Bill out? And you didn't disagree.
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: I don't think I know more than Bill, and I
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: want to make that very clear. He clearly, he clearly
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: knows more than me. I think I know enough to
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: have an opinion that's different from Bill, like maybe that
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: that's sort of where I come from. More of that.
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: I mean, he knows so much more than football that
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: I will ever know in my life. But I know
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: enough about football to be like, I like this player
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: more than that player.
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: I always get mad.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: One That's the Eric's thing is he didn't care who
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: they picked, just pick.
- 1:39:05Speaker 22: Want that trade down? Trade down in the first he
- 1:39:07Speaker 22: would have been oh again. But that's one thing we
- 1:39:11Speaker 22: always pushed back at wh people. You guys, did you
- 1:39:14Speaker 22: know what? No, of course not. But that doesn't mean
- 1:39:17Speaker 22: we can't have a show. I can't talk about the
- 1:39:19Speaker 22: things that we think.
- 1:39:20Speaker 3: I mean, I know they lost, but they play great.
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: That's what a lot of people. You know, I didn't
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: say a lot of people.
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: Jason still hasn't got his T shirt. Did you get
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: that email?
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: It's in the mail, Nathan, it's in the mail.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: Okay, anything?
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: I mean, you know, so I was asked to sign
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: a shirt for somebody today.
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: That was that was That was, that was my doing.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: Yeah, Casey came up for didn't you T? Shirt?
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: And I was like, you want me to sign that
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: for him? Why don't you get Paul's to sign it?
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: Because the star sign.
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: Let's see James in the Cube. Been a while since
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: I've emailed, but I still listen to every show. Thanks. Yeah,
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: James in the Cube. Uh you're discussion about straight She's
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: got me wondering if maybe they could try him at tackle.
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: He's got the athleticism in enough length. Always thought he
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: looked a bit more like a tackle than a guard.
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: Any chance. I don't think so.
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: I don't know, I was. I mean, you know, when
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: I'm talking about what he looks like. Now I was
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: looking at him, like, what does he look like? I
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: don't know what he looks like? Maybe a center, but
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: like he looks small for a guard. He doesn't really
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: look like a tight end to me. I don't know,
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: Like if I just had to look at his body
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: type and what position does that guy play in the NFL,
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: I'm not sure what I would what I would come up?
- 1:40:26Speaker 5: What did they take two two fourth round guards? Yeah,
- 1:40:30Speaker 5: in a sixth round guard. One of them is the
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: sports the center. The first one is so like, but
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: why is everybody convinced that three day three picks signal
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: is position changed for Cole Strange?
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Oh, we're doing it all over the map, Mike on
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: who back to tackle? Cole Strange to tackle?
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: But Michael wen you thing like not necessarily to move
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: to tackle, but he's in the last year of his deal.
- 1:40:51Speaker 5: I get that, Like, is that that probably? That probably
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: is connected?
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: Yes, And they look just like, why do we.
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: Want to trade? Why do we want to change Cole
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: Stranger's position? And we I don't know.
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: He said going into the draft, they'll probably take a
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: guard or two late in the draft. They did.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: It wasn't late enough.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: It wasn't late enough.
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not saying that. I think that I'm saying that.
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: And I think the fact that it was a primary center.
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: I mean, Jake Andrews did play some guard too, but
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: he primary center I think last two seasons, so you
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: know that one was just a little bit of a
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: of a scratcher too.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but a primary center could also play guard.
- 1:41:24Speaker 5: More than likely.
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: And I don't know if they need it that early
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: in Day three. But I mean, like we've talked about
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: what their backup situation was on the interior. I mean,
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: Rusie was undrafted. Guy Ferrence, I mean, you know, he's
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: been doing it for a while, but small and every
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: time he gets put in there, you're like, just hold on,
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: you know. I think last year we all would have
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: liked to just, hey, would it be great if, you know,
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: a chasing Hines last year had been that backup rotational guard,
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: you know, that kind of thing, because it just it
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: felt like their finn all over the offensive line last year.
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: I still think they did too much and too early,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: but I do think that it was some additions that
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: need to.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: Be Rick and Dallas first fantastic draft coverage. I spent
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: all week in listening, so much better than the talking
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: heads on ESPN. Thank you. Second, I do not understand
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: all these callers complaining about the draft. It seems fantastic
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: to me they got at least three day one starters
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: because Zalas Ryland and Barringer White did.
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: You just na see?
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: That's why I don't judge the emails before they get
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: to it.
- 1:42:21Speaker 5: That was so well doped.
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: White who will contribute immediately one to two future IOL
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: starters line sorry, and a couple of wide receivers who
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: could end up being stars.
- 1:42:34Speaker 5: Why is everyone complaining?
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: Name one other team other than the Philadelphia Bulldogs who
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: had a draft with as many current and future contributors.
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: So that's but that's exactly what I was saying at
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: the top of the show. I agree that they got
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: a lot of contributors from this draft. It's other than
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: Christian Gonzalez.
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: But you have to get contributors when you're draft your kicking.
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: Right, Like I agree though with that sentiment that they
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: have guys that will be on the roster that will
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: contribute in some capacity. They but how many needle movers
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: did they get?
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: Right? But they're the bigger point which we said explicitly
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: on this show, is that they need blue chip needle
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: mover guys and these like you know, like that.
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: You just put in a blue chip there? How many
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: of those?
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: That's what? Well, I know, but that's what I mean.
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: But you're the potential, like you know, to be there
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: and I didn't know that. Look any third round pick
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: if you're trying to sell them as a blue chip
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: right now in any one of the thirty two markets,
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: that people are laughing at you. But and that's why
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: I'm just lukewarm. We'll see what happens with these guys.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: According to the NFL dot Com, all the AFC East
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: teams are in the top ten rank for power ranking
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: except the Patriots. Okay, Bill's Jets in Miami are all
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: in the top ten.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: I'm gonna call them and give them a pas.
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: Am I am I the only one that maybe this
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: is just a homer in me that is not entirely
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: sold that this Aaron Rodgerson is going to be a
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: slam dunk for the Jets. Am I am I on
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: an island I slammed.
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: I do remember having an argument with you about them
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: last year, saying that Aaron Rodgers was checked out, and
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: you pushed back at me for that, saying they were
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: going to be a dangerous team in the playoffs. But
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: now he's a Jet at home.
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: Maybe it is. I don't but he's a year older,
- 1:44:16Speaker 4: and I just I don't know.
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: I don't think it's a guarantee it works.
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: Yeah, And I don't think it was a guarantee at
- 1:44:22Speaker 4: the time that they were going to be a dangerous
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: team in the playoffs.
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: Like I said, but if if it does work, then
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: I think the Jets are a contender. Yeah, if if
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: it works, if he's if he has any Tom Brady
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: and him at all. Now, I saw that the Jets
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: were putting out some some video of him on field
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: already working was part of the program. Uh, they did well,
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: they have a new coordinator. Isn't that the rule?
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: Because of that?
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: Right?
- 1:44:48Speaker 10: So we.
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: Didn't Bill say that last week that we're going to
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: be out there.
- 1:44:53Speaker 8: But.
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Billy will be on the field this week.
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: No helmets, Yeah, no, they had no helmets on. I
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: think Billy oh said when we talked to him last week,
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: we'll be out on the field.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: We were walking by him today.
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, I just I don't know. I looked at
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: that clip that they actually put and it was literally
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: one five second clip of him throwing like a slant.
- 1:45:14Speaker 5: That was that was?
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: That was? Didn't they put his head on somebody else?
- 1:45:20Speaker 16: Oh?
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: No, no, no, this was real?
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: This was real.
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: It was There was no nobody there. He like faked
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: a hand off and threw a pass. You didn't even
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: see where it was. Was that one put a head
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: on somebody? That was Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: It was Aaron Rodgers head, but it was on some No, No,
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: this was real Rogers. But I thought someone I'm like, okay,
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: I'm not talking about that work. I'm saying, does he
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: have the Tom Brady in and where he's going to
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: commit himself and say I am going to f you
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: to Green Bay to I'm going to show you that
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: I still have something left. Now, I don't know if
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: he has that. I don't know if he.
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: Has that in him. Like Tom, you kind of got
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: a sense with that maniacal nature of his Tom was
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: he was he was going to recommit. Yeah, I don't
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: know if he has that.
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: And that might be the gist of you know, not
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: everything clearly, but why Tom Brady got six.
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: Super Bowls, you know, and he's he was one, and
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: and most people who watch those two guys play say
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: that Rogers has more skill. Yeah, and I don't think
- 1:46:23Speaker 5: there's a huge argument to be made against that. But
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: there's a reason why one guy has five more titles,
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: six more titles, sorry upstairs, six more titles.
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: I do think that Rogers is going to be energizing.
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: I think he's gonna, you know, want to show his
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: gratitude to the Jets and the fans, and you know
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: he's gonna want to, I mean, you know, elevate that team.
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: And you know it's let's face it, if they make
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: the playoffs, it's because of Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: Well you guys, he knows you guys who know this
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: better than me. But I mean, what's the what's the
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: difference like the media in Green Bay and how they
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: treat you in Green Bay versus in New York and
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: how they.
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: Chase you in New York. Yeah, you know, And what's
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: which is another reason why I'm not sure to work.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: Yeah, the first slip up, they'll be all over them
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: and they'll.
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: Cover with this little scotch and relax. They'll be like, hey,
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: don't tell me when to relaxe. I'll relax when you
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: get them in the playoffs. Does that sound you know?
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: That's the kind of adversary of relationship there can be.
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: Remember your boy the Yurine stream, Yeah, Meta, Meta the business.
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: He's out of the business.
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: He broke up journalistic rules to be out of the business.
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: Yeah, the Jets broke them.
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: I don't know. I know it's I know it could
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: easily go the other way and they could be in
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: the super Bowl next year. Nobody would be that shocked.
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: But I just it's not. I feel like it's being
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: like there are a top ten team in power rankings
- 1:47:39Speaker 4: and all this stuff, and it's it's being talked about
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: like it's like guaranteed that that's gonna work.
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: About like Brice Hall being back, you.
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: Know, like, yeah, that doesn't move the needle for me.
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: Well who's who's Who's?
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: But I agree, I agree with what you're saying. I'm
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: just saying, I don't who would.
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: You pick them in Miami? Just take Patriots out of
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: the take back Patriots and Bills out of the situation.
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: Who do you think is the better team between the
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: Jets of Aaron Rodgers and Jets Jets?
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: I think Miami. What I think Miami based on what
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: their talent and the Jets. Now, now, if you're asking
- 1:48:08Speaker 5: me who I'm going to invest in, I think there's
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: a better chance that Aaron Rodgers plays seventeen games than Tools.
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: Yeah that's a big one, right.
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: But if I think at full strength, I think Miami's better. Yeah,
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: it's okay, you don't have to agree. He's like, he's
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: disgusted that you do that. He like turned the other way,
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: like this guy.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: I mean, I mean it's pretty.
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: Good when you go when you go head to head
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: with the two rosters, though, I mean they both you
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: know there's some talent on those teams.
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Andy and Cleveland spent sixteen hours in the car this weekend.
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: Very happy to have all the Draft show content to
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: pass some of the time. Sorry, Alex and Tomorrow weren't
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: on more. I think more of their energy would have
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: been a good addition.
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: I have energy.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: I guess we weren't energized enough. Huh. I have no
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: problem with tipping picks. Totally agree. The NFL presentation drags
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: out the announcement, but then why awkwardly break in with
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: audio of Goodell making the official announcement? I'm glad we
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: picked first and second rounders in the first and second round.
- 1:49:04Speaker 2: The rest is beyond my expertise to grade, but glad
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: there are some receivers to watch in training camp and
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: that by the end of the draft. I feel like
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: the show PU Pages and Filtered isn't too negative on
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: the picks overall.
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: So I feel I think we were pretty positive on
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: the picks. Yeah, I mean, I mean there were picks
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: that we didn't like, but I think we were pretty.
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: Oh, thank god we took the first receivers or Eric
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: would I mean Evan would have called.
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: But the first two picks, I mean, that's true. I
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: think the way the guy described that, I would largely
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: consider myself that kind of a you know, like you
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: get beyond the fourth and fifth rounds, I mean, you're
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: beyond my area of expertise. Like, that's not what I'm
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: judging a draft on.
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: My opinion on the draft definitely changing the sixth round.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: Yeah, no, not gonna lie, And that's fine. It didn't
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: for me. Like, I like the first two picks, and
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: if you get anything else after that, that's great.
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: Well, I got a question for you. We had a
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: call about Malie Cunningham, which she talked about a little
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: bit curious what.
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: The new Jeff Tom this undrafted he's literally we're getting
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: a way. He he's a really good runner. He is,
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: and and that's something that I think that uh, that
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: is exciting.
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: But for what for preseason, for a preseason.
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: And his role on the team to me is a
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: better scout team quarterback for guys like Lamar and and
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: the other mobile quarterbacks they might face because they beyond that.
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: I there's a lot of already that Jeff Thomas, you know,
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: Patriot fandom hype.
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: About not as much.
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: That more about him playing receiver.
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: I was hoping Jeff Thomas Freddy was a big Jeff.
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: Thomas more about him playing receiver. I would say than
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: in quarterback, you know, people thinking oh, well they could
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: use that his skill set, the running skill set as
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: as a receiver. I just would say that I am
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: hopeful that we don't need to use Marcus Jones and
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: Malik Cunningham's and those because you have actually good receivers
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: that play receiver for a living and you don't actually
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: have to find that. The reason why Marcus Jones played
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: offense last years because they had they needed it. They
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: needed him to play offense, They needed him to play
- 1:51:24Speaker 4: and make a big play impact. Hopefully Tykwon Thornton's doing
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: that for you this year. Hopefully Juju Smith Schuster is
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: doing that for you. Maybe one of these sixth round
- 1:51:34Speaker 4: guys hits and hopefully one of those guys contributes, Like
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: it shouldn't have to be that they found this UDFA
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: quarterback that's turning into a receiver that now is making
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: big plays for you on offense.
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: I mean, like Julian Edelman.
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: Well he was a seventh round pick.
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: Okay, that's close. Otherwise perfect, Vincent writes in Great Show
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: Having Patriots Withdrawal. You're kidding me about the Rogers head.
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: Right, Yes, well, no, I don't know that's fred.
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: I saw this one clip. He's got like, you know,
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: a giant head. He's got a red shirt, but it's
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: got a number eight on it.
- 1:52:10Speaker 5: Yes, that's the number he wears.
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: That's his number this year.
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: He wears number Eight's.
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: Going to be eight now. Yeah, and he throws. But
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: like it looked like his head was put on a body.
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: It didn't look real to somebody, Like I told you,
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: I don't think he's I don't think was twelve. Name is, yeah,
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: I say, and I think eight was his college number two.
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: But I'm not packing a call.
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's the whole thing.
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: You know, the Malie Countingham thing, Like I don't care,
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: Like it's a third quarterback that you're taking a flyer on.
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: But I'm going to be a lot more excited selfishly
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: watching a preseason game if he's on the field, as
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: opposed to Brian Hoyer. You know, some fifteen year veteran
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: who's playing against guys that Sonny's car washed. Like I
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: want to watch a guy running around making plays. Maybe
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: he can't play, maybe he can't throw. I don't know,
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: but I would much rather watch that's skill set then
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: a veteran pocket passer.
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel the same way about like like the
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: Bam Childress of the world, Like I just booty, Like
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: I have no idea what he's gonna be, but at
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: least I know that there's a little bit of intrigue
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: there of Like, well listen.
- 1:53:11Speaker 5: Absolutely, guy, Oh, I like I wanted I wanted Dorna
- 1:53:15Speaker 5: Thompson Robinson, you know, with a late pick. This guy's
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: not as good as that as a passer, But like
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: I think that's what they were thinking, Like, that's the
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: kind of guy, that's the profile they wanted, an athletic
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: mobile quarterback. This guy probably doesn't throw well enough, but
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: you know, maybe he develops.
- 1:53:32Speaker 2: Who knows Caleb and Knoxville. Every off season there is
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: a barrage of fans he has that quotes who call
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: her write in having complete hissy fits and think they
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: know better than the coach who has been in the
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: league longer than my favorite. Then they're so called fans
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: have been alive. No, Bill isn't perfect, and he's made
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: plenty of mistakes over the years and especially lately.
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: But you're not allowed to call him out of Can.
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: We please stop with the constant crying? I and many
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: others listen in to enjoy some Patriot insight and take
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: a break from life. It's beyond annoying that almost every
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: episode of Patriots Unfiltered has twenty minutes or more of
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: fans melting down and wanting our head coach to be fired.
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: Get a grip, people, your personal identity doesn't lie in
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: a professional sports team. I'm looking at people like Eldred especially,
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: just stop being a fan. Oh stop watching it.
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: A great, great fan just stop being a fan?
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: Why why should anyone stop being a fan?
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: You know, so he's made plenty of mistakes over the years,
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: but evidently Eldred's not allowed to call in and say
- 1:54:32Speaker 5: when he thinks he's made a mistake, right right, You're
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: only allowed to wait till after it appears to be
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: a mistake. Then you could say that was a mistake.
- 1:54:39Speaker 4: Apparently we're too arrogant when we do that.
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: Let's go to Chris and Scott.
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: I just hate the idea of like, do you think
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: you know as much of it? No, no, we don't.
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: Hey Chris, Hey, Chris, Hey.
- 1:54:51Speaker 19: Fred, I owe you an apology for last week. I
- 1:54:56Speaker 19: cut you off and didn't mean to do that when
- 1:55:01Speaker 19: we were talking about the draft and some of the
- 1:55:04Speaker 19: decisions that Belichick's been making and what have you. But
- 1:55:07Speaker 19: I just wanted to let you know the reason why
- 1:55:09Speaker 19: that that happened is you don't know when you're going
- 1:55:11Speaker 19: to be let go from the call, and you have
- 1:55:13Speaker 19: these points that you want to get out, and uh,
- 1:55:15Speaker 19: you know, just kind of snowballs on you when you're
- 1:55:17Speaker 19: impassionates like that.
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: Sure, we'll worry, we'll accept your pology, accept it.
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: I don't even remember.
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: But you know.
- 1:55:24Speaker 19: That's well, I'm just saying, you know, I actually I
- 1:55:28Speaker 19: felt so badly about it, but I asked Paul to slide.
- 1:55:31Speaker 11: Along the apology to you for me.
- 1:55:32Speaker 19: But I just wanted to make sure it got to you.
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: Okay, thanks.
- 1:55:36Speaker 19: Well that being said, you know, it was funny when
- 1:55:39Speaker 19: they were talking about Paul signing a T shirt. I
- 1:55:42Speaker 19: thought about, you guys, what's next trading cards? Where like
- 1:55:45Speaker 19: Van's Rookie of the Year and Mike Reeve and you know,
- 1:55:48Speaker 19: these guys.
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: Are calendar check it'll be in there very good.
- 1:55:57Speaker 19: So I had a question for Evan about, uh, what
- 1:56:02Speaker 19: I mean. It sounds like he's not a Blazer. You know,
- 1:56:06Speaker 19: he's not a well, you know, a four to three
- 1:56:09Speaker 19: guy or anything like that.
- 1:56:11Speaker 20: Do you feel like he can bring anything to the table.
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I don't think that's entirely accurate. So his
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: ankle injury is what really limited his explosiveness. But when
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: he was pre injury, he he was an explosive player.
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: That was pretty much the whole allure of the player
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: at the time. He's a power slot receiver. I think,
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: you know, a little bit bigger than than most slot
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: receivers five eleven, two hundred pounds in a lot of ways.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: Honestly from a skillet skill set perspective, Uh, he reminds
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: me a lot of Juju, Like I think there's a
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: lot of that type of explosiveness after the catch, gonna
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: catch those you know, five yard five step slants and
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: dig routes and things over the middle of the field
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: and then hopefully run with him for a little while.
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: The one thing that I think changes between him and
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: Juju is Juju is much better in traffic and much
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: better at the catch point than than Boute I think,
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: honestly on film, that's probably the biggest concern other than
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: all the other things we talked about with the hands
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: and the ability to make contested catches. But he's a
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: little similar to that. I've compared him to Jarvis Landry
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: at times in the past two or even like a
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: Christian Kirk so someone like that. That he's an explosive
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: guy when he's right.
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: Just to show you how much, just how much talent
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: he has. When he was coming out of high school,
- 1:57:27Speaker 5: he was the number two wide receiver recruit. He was
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: a five star, but he was the number two wide
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: receive recruit recruit in the country. Yeah, his first that's
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: like a position that has a lot Where where would.
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: He have gone if he stayed on the trajectory of
- 1:57:41Speaker 3: his sophomore first.
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: Second round, they had him a lot like again, want
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: a lot of research.
- 1:57:46Speaker 2: On a lot of I love LSU.
- 1:57:48Speaker 5: You know that there's a lot of people that had
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: him in the second round with a possibility of being
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: in the first. Evan's not wrong, But I do want
- 1:57:55Speaker 5: to read the rest of that email that you got deleted.
- 1:57:58Speaker 3: Because I apologize.
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: Yeah, well, Mark and fall River, He says, this is
- 1:58:02Speaker 5: the rest of the email that got cut off. After
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: what felt like a lifetime of dealing with risk Alavino's
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: lack of caring at all about football and pompous arrogance,
- 1:58:11Speaker 5: you had an opportunity to replace him after this draft season.
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: With Evan, I can say, beyond the shadow of a doubt,
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: one out of two ain't bad.
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: All right, all right, that's gonna be it for this
