tradition, The Story of the Candy Cane.

Tonight, we gather with grateful hearts as we prepare for the greatest celebration
• 1:03
of all, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
• 1:07
This tradition is special because it reminds us that even the smallest things,
• 1:13
even a simple candy cane, can point us back to the love of God.
• 1:19
So sit back, relax, and let's journey together into the story of the candy cane.
• 1:30
Long ago, in a small village, a humble candy maker wanted to create something
• 1:36
special for the children at Christmas.
• 1:38
Something simple, something sweet, but something that would quietly remind them
• 1:44
of the true meaning of this season.
• 1:46
He prayed and asked God for inspiration, and slowly, an idea formed in his heart.
• 1:53
He shaped a piece of white candy into the form of a king.
• 1:58
When he held one up, the candy looked like the letter J, standing for the precious name Jesus.
• 2:05
When turned the opposite way, it becomes the shepherd's staff,
• 2:09
reminding us of the good shepherd who watches over his flock,
• 2:13
guiding and protecting each one of us.
• 2:16
The candy was made of white to symbolize the purity of Christ,
• 2:22
the sinless, spotless, and perfect in every way.
• 2:26
It reminds us that through him, we are washed clean and made new.
• 2:32
Then the candy maker added red stripes, a bold red stripe to represent the blood
• 2:37
that Jesus would one day shed for us, and the three thinner stripes to remind
• 2:44
us of the scourging he endured.
• 2:46
All because of his deep and endless love. The candy cane was never meant to
• 2:52
be just a treat. It was created as a quiet, beautiful message.
• 2:58
Because Jesus loves you, Jesus is with you, and Christmas is all about him.
• 3:05
As you enjoy a candy cane this Christmas Eve and Christmas morning,
• 3:09
take a moment to look beyond the sweetness.
• 3:12
Hold it up and see that J and remember it's Jesus.
• 3:18
Turn it the other way and you'll see that it takes shape of a shepherd's staff,
• 3:23
  reminding us of his guidance.
• 3:26
See the white and know you are forgiven. See the red and know you are loved.
• 3:32
May this tradition continue to remind us why Christmas fills our hearts with hope.
• 3:38
Because God so loved the world that he gave his only son.
• 3:43
Thank you for joining us on this special Christmas Eve edition of Have Faith, Let It Begin.
• 3:49
From my family to yours, may your home be filled with peace,
• 3:53
warmth, laughter, and everlasting joy of Christ.
• 3:57
Have a blessed night. May you feel the love of God surrounding you. Merry Christmas.
• 4:04
  And remember that you matter.
• 4:06
