- 0:01Hello everyone and welcome to the Random Heathen Ramblings
- 0:03podcast where we discuss all sorts of things Dramatic
- 0:06Heathenry related. My name is Jesse.
- 0:09I am your host. Let's get into it.
- 0:34All right. Well, Helen.
- 0:37Hello, everybody. Welcome back to another episode
- 0:39of the The Podcast this week. Thanks for tuning in.
- 0:42Special thanks to those of you who have decided to drop a coin
- 0:47to your Vicki. Drop a coin to your podcast
- 0:49host. It's not a drop a coin to your
- 0:50Witcher. Somebody made that observation
- 0:54when I said it last week. But tossing a coin, leaving a
- 0:57coin, becoming a patron on Patreon so that you can watch
- 1:02these sorts of things, you know, when there's a video format of
- 1:05something, a lot of people find more value in that.
- 1:08So I hope that I'm still able to, you know, give people what
- 1:13they're looking for on the audio platforms, but while still not
- 1:17impacting people's lives too much by just charging a small
- 1:20amount of just a dollar for you to come in and watch what we do
- 1:24here on this show. So I do appreciate all of my
- 1:30patrons on Patreon for doing that and for supporting me in
- 1:32that way. Really keeps me going, going
- 1:36strong and and wanting to do these things.
- 1:39Don't forget if you are a Chieftain tier or above patron,
- 1:43you're going to be getting your monthly room draws here within
- 1:46the next week or so. I usually do them around the
- 1:51first or second week of the month after that first cycle of
- 1:54of the previous month's patrons comes through.
- 1:58So if you're a brand new Chieftain tier just subscribed
- 2:02this month in October, then your room drawer will be for the
- 2:07month of October and coming into November.
- 2:10You know. So be on the lookout for that
- 2:12here in the next, you know, week or two.
- 2:16If you're a Scald tier patron or above this month's, what do you
- 2:26call it, one-on-one sort of thing is going to be on
- 2:29Thursday, November 16th. OK, I know last month we we held
- 2:35it and didn't have any attendees.
- 2:38I understand things happen, but just be aware that if I know in
- 2:43advance that you're not going to come, even if it's just, you
- 2:46know, if if everybody says that they're not going to come, then
- 2:50I'll cancel. But if just one person says I'm
- 2:52not going to come, I'll still keep it open that way.
- 2:54Anybody else who is, you know, pledging that their, their,
- 2:59their support at that tier still gets a chance to talk to me
- 3:02one-on-one. So again that will be Thursday,
- 3:04November 16th at 7:00 PM Central time for one hour and you get a
- 3:12chance to talk to me one-on-one sort of thing or or or ask me
- 3:16questions. Or maybe there was a previous
- 3:18episode that you watched that you're like, I wish you would
- 3:20have gone more into this particular topic.
- 3:22You know, basically whatever you have on your mind that you want
- 3:25to talk about for an hour, I'm yours.
- 3:27You got me for the hour and I'll be there.
- 3:29So those are for your skull tier patrons or above.
- 3:34But as always, everybody else, even from the Carls, the Yarls,
- 3:37everybody on up the line. Thank you so much for being here
- 3:41to watch this episode. If you're listening on Patreon
- 3:44or any of the other audio platforms and you want to watch
- 3:47the episode in full, you can become a patron today.
- 3:51And as soon as you subscribe to the Patreon Patreon page for
- 3:55just a dollar, you've got access to the video format of the
- 4:00podcast. Almost just knocked my candle
- 4:02over here. That's the other thing too,
- 4:05right? I'm talking about things.
- 4:06And if you're listening and you're going, what's going on?
- 4:08I almost knocked my candle over. I just like, gestured to my to
- 4:13my right and my finger like, braised the top of my of my
- 4:18candle that I have burning here. Reason I did that is just
- 4:21because, I don't know, I got something going on with my
- 4:23elbow. It's like swollen down here.
- 4:27Don't ask me how it happened. Just kind of one of those things
- 4:31where I just, I woke up one day and I'm like, why is my elbow
- 4:33sore? Feels like I, you know hit a
- 4:37wall or or some kind of hard object that's kind of swollen,
- 4:39feels bruised, don't see a bruise, you know.
- 4:43So it's probably something under the surface.
- 4:44But I don't know, maybe it's just one of those things about
- 4:49getting old that I have to to look forward to is all of these
- 4:52undescribable, undeterminable, determinable aches and pains and
- 4:59things of just like, you know, why do I wake up one day and I
- 5:03can barely walk, you know, Whereas the day before I'm like,
- 5:05you know, sprinting around doing laps, all that fun stuff.
- 5:09But anywho, not to go off into the weeds about stuff, but we do
- 5:16have a guest coming on the show here today here In just a
- 5:18minute, I have had Blake on the show in the past.
- 5:23It's been a while now probably. I have to look back and see
- 5:26which season he came on here. I think it was like season 2
- 5:30maybe, maybe season three, but I feel like it was season 2.
- 5:33But you can go back and you can listen or watch the first
- 5:40episode. I'll I'll leave it annotated in
- 5:42the show notes and and down the description area for you.
- 5:46But he is a a musician himself. He's in Alabama and he plays the
- 5:50toggle harp. You know, so that that infamous
- 5:54sounding fiddle kind of thing that you hear being played in
- 5:59bands like Wardroona, Dannheim, you know, Fuimidan or Fuimidane.
- 6:05I've heard it pronounced Fuimidan, Fuimidan, Fuimidane,
- 6:11Mirknoor, like all these various, you know, Eldervock,
- 6:14right. Skogamor, right.
- 6:16They've all got that that Nordic fiddle thing going on.
- 6:19There's various types of toggle harps, but he plays the toggle
- 6:22harp. He's got a channel, it's called
- 6:23Skaldic Works. All of his socials are going to
- 6:26be linked down below or in the show notes wherever you catch
- 6:29this. So do be sure to check him out
- 6:32and support him. Either give his page a follow,
- 6:35whatever social media he has going on.
- 6:36We'll hear more about that. But the reason he's coming back
- 6:39on the show here today is because him and I first met
- 6:41over, you know, the Internet, through through my social media
- 6:46channels and had never met in person.
- 6:49Our first in person meeting happened just this past week
- 6:53when he and I, when my wife went to, you know, the the Hilung
- 6:58ritual in Huntsville, AL. And he was there also.
- 7:02And we're going to be talking about our experiences, you know,
- 7:06what we felt and what it was like to attend Hilung.
- 7:10Now, I don't know right at this moment if this show was was was
- 7:16his first Highland experience, It was mine.
- 7:19So I'm very excited to to talk about things that you know, kind
- 7:22of were a part of the the whole experience, you know, from from
- 7:29traveling there to being in the area to waiting for the seating
- 7:34to be opened up for people to going into the venue, to just
- 7:39everything from start to finish. So I'm excited to be talking
- 7:42about that today. I'm excited to hear about
- 7:44Blake's experience because again, I don't know for sure if
- 7:47this was his first Highland ritual, but we're going to get
- 7:50into it and we're going to talk about it.
- 7:52And yeah, that's what the today's episode is going to be.
- 7:54So it's kind of like a experiencing amplified history
- 7:59podcast. You know amplified history being
- 8:02that thing that that that that Blake's all of or that Blake but
- 8:07but that Highland is all about. So we're going to take a short
- 8:12break. Welcome in, Blake here.
- 8:13In just a minute, if you haven't yet already, please follow this
- 8:16podcast. Please subscribe.
- 8:17Please do all the things. If you want to become a Patreon
- 8:19Patreon be. Feel free to do that.
- 8:22And yeah, let's go ahead and welcome in Blake to the random
- 8:26Eden Ramblings podcast once again from Skaldic Works.
- 8:28Here we go. All right, everybody.
- 8:32Well, we've got Blake here from Skaldic works.
- 8:34As I mentioned before, he came on here.
- 8:36He's a prior guest, but we me and him and kind of connected
- 8:40long distance now for at least a couple years.
- 8:43I'm trying to remember, Blake, when you came on the show the
- 8:45first time. I feel like it was maybe season
- 8:472 like a like a couple years ago or might have been just last
- 8:50year. I can't remember exactly.
- 8:51I. Think it was like three of your
- 8:53lives, about one or two years ago?
- 8:55Yeah. But I was, I was at this, the
- 8:58channel I was going underneath, well, it's the same channel, but
- 9:01I changed the name of it to the to the monitor now.
- 9:05But it used to be Vladimir. OK, but your moniker on the your
- 9:10your your your YouTube channel is still skaldic works, right?
- 9:13Yes, exactly. So that's cool, you got and
- 9:17you're still doing the the Toggle harp stuff.
- 9:21Right. Yeah, I'll try to get back into
- 9:23the swing of things and by an inspiration.
- 9:25It was just this week was just like so much.
- 9:29I couldn't do nothing. Yeah.
- 9:31Yeah. Well I'm glad to hear that you
- 9:33still like you know that you haven't completely because I
- 9:36know some people when they when they pick stuff up they they
- 9:40just like inadvertently drop off the face of the earth.
- 9:43You know you start following them you're like oh I like this
- 9:45And then you never hear from him anymore Like there's this one
- 9:47guy here recently man. And I'm like, where'd you go?
- 9:50Like he's just got he's just got one platform now and I'm like,
- 9:53well where's your jewelry? Where's your this where's your
- 9:55that where's your he just like disappeared.
- 9:58And I'm like a heads up would have been nice, but not that
- 10:01they're obligated to do that. But it's nice that you, you know
- 10:04still have your your music which you you, you pick back up kind
- 10:09of dusting the cobwebs off of the old toggle harp.
- 10:12Right. Have you gotten any?
- 10:13Have you gotten any new equipment or is it all still
- 10:15your original stuff? It's still a lot of my original
- 10:19stuff I'm trying to work. I'm trying to write some more
- 10:21things new. Just trying to get get the old
- 10:25stuff recorded and then to studio and stuff.
- 10:29Oh, so you have material already that you're trying to put onto,
- 10:33like? Yeah, they're already, they're
- 10:35already up on YouTube, already up on YouTube in the short
- 10:38format or yeah, but I'll try to re record.
- 10:43I'm going to, I'll try to record them all and to a full
- 10:46arrangements and stuff. Oh, nice.
- 10:50One of my relatives has helped me with that in the city a
- 10:53little bit. Very cool.
- 10:56Well, yeah, I'm going to be linking all of your stuff, you
- 10:58know, where people can find you. But for anybody listening, you
- 11:00know there's YouTube. Do you have any other platforms,
- 11:04anything that you do anywhere else or is that is YouTube
- 11:07mainly? One Well, I'm also on Facebook
- 11:10as well, and I'm also on Instagram, OK?
- 11:17I do have a link tree account as well.
- 11:20Oh great. Yeah.
- 11:21So if you just you guys listening and stuff or watching
- 11:24whichever, head down to the show notes or description area and
- 11:29the skaldic works link tree that you'll see down there, that's
- 11:31kind of like I could do. I have this like one stop shot,
- 11:34right? If you want to find everywhere
- 11:35I'm at, you want to see what you can do to support me, I got a
- 11:38link tree like so. He's got one here.
- 11:40You guys be sure to check that out.
- 11:41Follow him. Subscribe.
- 11:43Do all of those things that help support him in that way.
- 11:46And and listen me and stream my musical 5 because I'm not
- 11:50getting anything there so far. You stream it where now?
- 11:55I'm on like Spotify and like everything.
- 12:00I'm like everything right now. Apple Music, Apple Music.
- 12:05I think Deezer is another one. Yeah, it's just through whatever
- 12:10distro Kit has been put me through.
- 12:15Yeah, that's a good. I've had that for about a year
- 12:18and nobody's listened to it. I'll have to find you on
- 12:21Spotify, man, 'cause I have like some playlists that when I get
- 12:25together with people, like when we do some of our tribal events,
- 12:29like I'll sometimes plug a plug a Bluetooth speaker into my, you
- 12:33know, or connect to my Bluetooth speaker and start playing a
- 12:37playlist like, so we got like a Yule playlist.
- 12:39And if there's like, you know, people that I know that have
- 12:42music out there like, you know, Eldervock and Skogramore and and
- 12:47and others, man. But if you're on Spotify, I'll.
- 12:49I'll definitely look you up and get you out of that way.
- 12:50Some of your stuff gets played. Yeah, I'm fixing to change.
- 12:53I'm fixing to change that name eventually to the to the name I
- 12:57came up with. I'm not going to name drop yet
- 13:00until it's all everything's recorded and released of the
- 13:05first name, right. Yeah, I'm going to rewind it.
- 13:09Well, not not this channel, Not not my channel.
- 13:12Skeldrick works, but I'm going to rebrand the the name.
- 13:17Skaldic works music to something else.
- 13:20Oh, OK. Gotcha.
- 13:22Already already have a name picked out.
- 13:23I just got to get some artwork done, logos done, and I get at
- 13:28least two songs recorded out of that.
- 13:30Because streaming service only likes you to have at least more
- 13:34than one before I start promoting, before I throw in
- 13:38promotions and stuff. So I'm going to try to release a
- 13:42lot. A lot.
- 13:43Those, those, at least four of them, and I maybe record my.
- 13:47The last single that I have, the only single I have on there
- 13:50right now, which is the call of the ancestors.
- 13:53I may re record it with a little bit better arrangements.
- 13:57OK, We'll. Definitely be keeping our eyes.
- 14:01Peeled Yeah. All I had was that little small
- 14:02drum that I was using in that one.
- 14:04And we figured out the only way, the best way to simulate a big,
- 14:09high drum When you're not, we don't When you're broke.
- 14:13It's a fight. A it's a fight.
- 14:14A Gem Bay? A gym bag.
- 14:18No, a gym bag. Oh, gym bag.
- 14:21The. Little the little African drum
- 14:24thing that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:26I thought you said like a gym bag.
- 14:27And I'm like, what are you doing?
- 14:28Like wrapping the thing up in a Buffle bag?
- 14:31That's weird. But.
- 14:32OK, my, my. It was my second cousin, twice
- 14:36removed, who's helping me with that.
- 14:38He had what a large one. And you took like a beer of mine
- 14:42for my my little, my little Thai shaman drum.
- 14:46He took that and just started wailing all that, man, that's
- 14:48like this thing throws some air like crazy.
- 14:52It's like we gotta have this thing on.
- 14:55We gotta have this thing on the on the, on the, on the album,
- 14:57but the on the singles and stuff.
- 15:01Heck yeah. Improvise, right?
- 15:02I've heard so many, I've heard so many different, you know, you
- 15:09know, independent musicians who record in their own space and
- 15:12don't have like a studio or a lot of, you know, fancy bells
- 15:15and whistles to add to things. I've heard of of of crazy
- 15:19things, man. Like people like using some
- 15:25software to really tune down the sound of like AI don't know, a
- 15:31rubber band being plucked or or or something Crazy, right?
- 15:35That's something. That's how that's how I did.
- 15:36That's how I did my own things as well, like on my what I did
- 15:41when I recorded on Call of the Ancestors.
- 15:43And I took when my I took that high, that a little high drum I
- 15:46have and I lowered it and some of the tracks and I played both
- 15:52of them together. That kind of the same track.
- 15:55Yeah, layered the same, the same track, but I split it off to
- 16:01make it up with a pitch shift, and that's how I did that lower
- 16:06drum sound. OK.
- 16:08Interesting. Which gives us that Arabian
- 16:10Nights kind of feel that I'm like, how did that come back?
- 16:15How did that rhythm come out there for this kind of this
- 16:17particular song? Yeah, like a little bit of a
- 16:20Middle Eastern kind of vibe, you know?
- 16:22Yeah. Like Prince Adi Fabulous.
- 16:24It's kind of this way. It has almost sounds like How
- 16:32did I go there? It just happened just I just hit
- 16:36record on the tag will happen then I went.
- 16:39Then I just recorded everything else over it.
- 16:42See, now that you mentioned that I'm going to go back and listen
- 16:44to it and see if I picked that up on that because I don't think
- 16:46I picked up on that quite before.
- 16:48Like I remember you mentioning it at one time about like the
- 16:50kind of like, you know, like you say like Middle Eastern or
- 16:53whatever kind of and doing. But I've heard some other
- 16:56artists and and musicians kind of lean into that sound as well
- 17:03with some of their some of their Nordic stuff and the the the two
- 17:08complement one another. They really do like the
- 17:11mandolins, like the various instruments that have used
- 17:13across different cultures. Just they you know styles are
- 17:17are what they are but they they they really complement one
- 17:19another nicely when you kind of blend and mix and.
- 17:23Stuff. And another.
- 17:24The other thing I was going to use eventually, but until we
- 17:26found the Jimbei itself was really good, was we were going
- 17:30to use the floor top. Because if you have you ever
- 17:35heard of Seder Bloat the the trio?
- 17:39I think they're like out of the yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 17:43I know who you're talking about. Yeah.
- 17:45The the main drunk that they have is is just a floor Tom with
- 17:51we're using using like beaters like just stick beaters.
- 17:57Yeah, just like a regular. Like the shaman Drum beaters.
- 18:00Like stick beaters. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:01Yeah. But there are three-year old
- 18:05floor Toms like you would on a on a regular drum kit.
- 18:07Yeah, yeah. So it's just a regular four
- 18:09time, just a single floor time is what it is.
- 18:11OK. Yeah.
- 18:12You gotta use what you gotta use.
- 18:14Yeah. I mean, shoot.
- 18:15Like you got that deep bass resonant sound.
- 18:19You know what I mean? Like, yeah.
- 18:22I think the G bass sounds better, though.
- 18:26It's got that kind of travel sound too, you know?
- 18:28Yeah, it throws a lot of bass to.
- 18:30It's the way we did it. The mic set up he did on it just
- 18:35as phenomenal. So he's he's we're waiting for,
- 18:38he's actually waiting to get a stand for it.
- 18:41So he doesn't. He's so tired from holding it.
- 18:44Sure, yeah. So he can play a lot, does he
- 18:47did some of the rhythms as well. And I did use the little tiny
- 18:50drum I have on it. On it.
- 18:53Well, it's actually. The song I'm working on right
- 18:57now is. It's based on the holidays,
- 19:00secret blokes. So I think I saw your title of
- 19:05that come out or you mentioned that it was.
- 19:07I'm like, can't wait to hear that, you know, because that's
- 19:10one of our major three holy ties, you know?
- 19:13I wrote it. I wrote it before that, like I
- 19:15wrote it around All Star, but it was like between All Star and
- 19:18secret blokes. And I knew it was coming up
- 19:19like, what do I name this? Name this.
- 19:21Oh. Yeah, let's just name it after
- 19:24the upcoming Nordic holiday. There you go.
- 19:28So I may just wait and release it though around that time if I
- 19:31could ever get back to reporting it.
- 19:33Well, you got time for it then. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:41Well, that's cool man. I'm excited to to hear what
- 19:44you've got coming out, and I hope the people are too.
- 19:48But man, Speaking of music, you know.
- 19:51Yeah, this, this past week, you and I both.
- 19:55Although we went separately to the same place, we both
- 19:59experienced the same ritual in in the context that we were
- 20:05under the same roof with, you know, hundreds of other people
- 20:08talking about Hilong, of course, and I.
- 20:11Was that your first Hilong ritual?
- 20:14Exactly my first Hilong. It it was, yes.
- 20:19Mine too. So I was curious, you know, to
- 20:24hear, you know, and for us to talk about it because you know,
- 20:27when you follow, I don't know how long you've been following
- 20:30Highland for listening to their stuff, but you know, they're all
- 20:35of their stuff that gets shared whether you know on YouTube or
- 20:38or anywhere else. You know, you see pictures,
- 20:41right? And it's like it looks so
- 20:45magical, right? And it looks so amazing from
- 20:48that angle from the outside looking in.
- 20:52What we're what what what expectations did you have going
- 20:55to Huntsville this past week, it being your first time, right,
- 21:00Kind of getting that that your Highland cherry popped, as it
- 21:03were because mine was too, right?
- 21:06What what what expectations did you have going into it if any?
- 21:11Well, going back circling back to where you said that first
- 21:13started listening to it was back in 2020 but that's first started
- 21:17hearing about them. I had bands like Highland
- 21:19skulled what well I've heard about Ward Bruna first and then
- 21:23I went went flowed into that and then Skull was third on my list.
- 21:30But going into it, it was an unpopular opinion of this
- 21:35unpopular opinion. But it wasn't.
- 21:38I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to go where with
- 21:40the flow of everybody's favorite is this band and that that
- 21:43stuff. So they were one of my top
- 21:45favorite bands to listen to because again, like Seder bloat
- 21:51and stuff was pretty is one of my favorites, and a Tegra Loopy
- 21:55is another one of my favorites. Oh yeah, I can't.
- 21:58They got some new stuff coming out too soon I'm excited for,
- 22:01but I when I heard they were coming into town or town that
- 22:04was like that was like pretty shocked to take flight North
- 22:09Alabama. Yeah, as their video choice for
- 22:15their upcoming tour. So that's like I was leaning
- 22:20back and forth. I was like that week, you know,
- 22:23when they were about to announce the release of it, you know, of
- 22:27the tickets and stuff, I was like, I'm not supposed to go
- 22:30because I'm, I'm going to probably experience some like
- 22:32this for a long time again. So I didn't want to miss that
- 22:37chance. So I took the opportunity and I
- 22:40got it. So out of all of the like.
- 22:45The last but you say you started listening to Highland, came
- 22:47familiar with him, gave him some attention, you know, like around
- 22:512020, you know, a few years ago. And they've come to the States
- 22:55twice since, since then, at least they did the Red Rocks
- 22:58thing and then they did Chicago and they did other tours, right.
- 23:02So I think this is a, this is a right around like their third
- 23:05return trip to the US was. Was there something?
- 23:12About you know when you first heard them up till now that made
- 23:17you pull the trigger on going to this show and not the other two
- 23:20tours that came prior Like did did something for you that I
- 23:24want to go to this one now and why didn't I go to the others
- 23:27before or anything like that? Well, the reason why, the main
- 23:32reason I think of the others is because distance.
- 23:36They just weren't close to you, right?
- 23:37Yeah. And since they were close,
- 23:39that's what made me pull the trigger, was that they were
- 23:40close. Sure, yeah.
- 23:44The convenience of it, because I'm only like 30 minutes away
- 23:47from 30 to 40 minutes away from there.
- 23:49Nice. So so it's not too far.
- 23:53It didn't take me to drive. I got back here later later that
- 23:56night as soon as the ever the after as soon as I got merged
- 24:02and stuff so. Yeah, was go ahead.
- 24:08No. No, I didn't say if you know
- 24:10was. Without going into it without, I
- 24:15guess you know, you were kind of again, not having any
- 24:17expectations, right? Because an unpopular opinion as
- 24:19you say like hey, they weren't my favoritest band or or or
- 24:22thing coming out in that style of music.
- 24:24But if it's time you're like, well, I figured since they're,
- 24:27you know, within an hour from me, may as well, may as well go
- 24:30and check out and see what all the hubbub is about.
- 24:31See what all the hype's about? Yeah, exactly.
- 24:34And I've always been the kind of person that would listen to a
- 24:37band sometimes. If I haven't.
- 24:39If I don't recognize them or something or if I do recognize
- 24:43the band, I don't usually sometimes if I don't have a high
- 24:47opinion of them sometimes. But I do go to the shows.
- 24:50Every experience I've done I've been blown out of the water like
- 24:55I went to see what was it. Go horror for the first time.
- 24:59I hit Huntsville, where they hit Huntsville back in 2019, I
- 25:03believe 18 or 19. When they came to Maggie Myers
- 25:07over there and I listen to them, they're like, huh, Yeah, that's
- 25:13a small club. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:14Because a friend of mine was opening for us, was his band was
- 25:17opening for them and they're local and stuff.
- 25:21So nice he was. He's not just a friend of mine.
- 25:26He's also a he was also in the my other friend's band at one
- 25:30point before before they split. But he has.
- 25:35He was opening for them that night.
- 25:37So I went over there. I was like listening to the.
- 25:42I was trying to prep and and listen to the main because I
- 25:45always listen to the main band that comes on, you know?
- 25:49Prior to a show, you mean like when you're going to watch him,
- 25:51you're like, let me get into that.
- 25:53Let me let me hear what it's all about.
- 25:55Bout so I know the songs and stuff that can you know so when
- 26:01I but I was like meh or Goat War was the recording you know But
- 26:06when I went into when I went into it and I heard them play
- 26:09live and that energy and stuff I couldn't stop listening to them.
- 26:12I was like, I got to listen to, re listen to this, you know,
- 26:16that was my mindset going into the high log is I listen to a
- 26:19lot of the songs because I listened to.
- 26:21They come on my in my playlist all the time and I have it like
- 26:27on Spotify or whatever I'm listening to.
- 26:30They'll rotate in and I've really or like again every song
- 26:35that they did Wednesday was what I recognized, even though I
- 26:40didn't know the all the words to it.
- 26:42You know, Oh yeah, because I don't know.
- 26:45I don't pay attention to the words mostly anyway, even in
- 26:47English, to soft, to songs, you know, It's like they only know a
- 26:52handful from my favorite bands like Amana, Mars and Jordan
- 26:56Bowden and stuff like that. Right.
- 27:00Well, and that's the other thing too, right.
- 27:01So obviously you've been to many other.
- 27:04Live concert events and I was, I just wanted to tell you like
- 27:11I've got my story to tell and I'm going to get to it
- 27:13eventually, But what was your experience of the actual live
- 27:19event with Hilong in comparison to other live events that you've
- 27:24gone to? What was it like seeing Hilong
- 27:28live and in person versus? I mean, I know that the, the,
- 27:31the genre of music is different in that whole thing, but I just
- 27:34mean like the the atmosphere, the feeling.
- 27:37What was it like for you going to a how long show in comparison
- 27:41to other live events? It was different though.
- 27:43It was really different. When I walked into the building,
- 27:49you know, at first I I knew about what they do.
- 27:55They're the they're process of the shows, you know, as the
- 27:59ritual itself. But when I went in, when I went
- 28:02inside, I was like, you know, you hear, you see the stage,
- 28:05it's like got all the the trees and stuff and there's birds
- 28:10chirping and I like thinking I just entered the Rainforest Cafe
- 28:13for some reason. Right.
- 28:17Yeah. I just when.
- 28:17The elephant got to come out. It's like like where's the
- 28:21where's the elephant or where's this?
- 28:23You know, it's like, it's like that's what meant like.
- 28:26Even happen. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:28Where? Where?
- 28:29Where's the Where's the burgers? Right, right.
- 28:33Or the OR the chicken sandwich. Whichever was good there kept we
- 28:36were overly eating there once. Wait, does that place still
- 28:39exist? Did the Gorillas come out at any
- 28:42point in time? Yeah, the, the Razors, yeah, I
- 28:45think they, I think the company that runs that franchise is
- 28:48still around. I think there's I think we have
- 28:50one here in Nashville still. I was wondering if it was still
- 28:54in Nashville, but it was, it was at Off Your Meals at one point.
- 28:57Yeah, yeah, I I That's what I've that's what I've been to.
- 28:59It's one that operates. A long time since I've been
- 29:01there, but I think they're still there.
- 29:03But yeah, right. And it was, 'cause like we did
- 29:05almost like, you know, it almost felt like you weren't walking
- 29:08into a concert. You know what I mean?
- 29:10Like you're walking into like, AI mean it.
- 29:16The the, the term gets used. Like doesn't get used a lot in
- 29:19like heathen or pay. But it felt like you were going
- 29:21to church, man. Like it was a like, yeah.
- 29:23Let me let me get into the right headspace for what's about to
- 29:26happen, 'cause there was, there was, there was chatter, there
- 29:29was people talking, you know, there was unity happening.
- 29:32There were people, you know, just mingling and being friendly
- 29:36and all that and stuff, right? But there wasn't this just like,
- 29:39it wasn't. It was high energy, but it
- 29:41wasn't this like intense high energy.
- 29:43There was this kind of like simmering.
- 29:47Coals of embers, I guess, is the best way that I could describe
- 29:51it. That was like, let's come in and
- 29:52let's settle in and let's get ready for this fire to be lit.
- 29:57You know, if you. Feel here for a while.
- 29:59Like, that's the closest thing that I could say was, yeah, you
- 30:01chatter. Yeah, you chatter with the
- 30:04people next to you or whatever. Yeah.
- 30:07And then you see, I was also messaging other friends who were
- 30:12there as well, to see and try to locate them, because I also had
- 30:15to stand up for a friend of mine.
- 30:17I also my second, the guy I told you about that was recording
- 30:22help me record my second cousin twice removed, which is my
- 30:26grandfather's cousin's son. I don't.
- 30:29Know how you keep track. He was, yeah, yeah, he he was a
- 30:33couple rows behind me. To the left.
- 30:34To my left. OK, so I saw him there because I
- 30:42we waved this stuff and then I mean, I saw a lot of people by I
- 30:47recognize and stuff. A lot of people from all.
- 30:49Familiar faces, obviously. You there, you know, I mean,
- 30:52like, but I I met some new people too.
- 30:56Like, people that I hadn't met in person but that just, like
- 30:58know me from my my social media, you know, like, hey, can I get a
- 31:03picture with you or can we get a picture together?
- 31:05That was cool. You know, like just to see
- 31:07people out there and that they were there for that experience,
- 31:10but they were also like engaged with one another, you know what
- 31:14I mean? And that's not, that's pretty
- 31:16common with any, you know, like live music event.
- 31:19I mean that's nothing new, but I don't know man, like it just it
- 31:21felt differently for me than I've been to.
- 31:24I mean, I've been to hundreds of live shows, local regional acts.
- 31:30All from every spectrum, you know what I mean all across and
- 31:34this for me was I don't I I can 100% assuredly say that I've not
- 31:41experienced anything. Like what I experienced at a
- 31:45Highland, you know, before that that was, that was, that was
- 31:49something new for me in the greatest ways possible.
- 31:53Yeah. The one thing I didn't get off
- 31:55of it, like most people do get off of it sometimes is that
- 31:58really high spiritual aspect. But I did get like.
- 32:03I did get like, chills, like throughout the whole thing.
- 32:07See, I was also mesmerized by all the all the stage men ship
- 32:12or you know, the showmanship and the.
- 32:14Of everything that was going on, because I I can't only focus on
- 32:17one thing at a time. I can't just see the whole
- 32:19picture. So I have to look here, then
- 32:21I'll miss something over here. Right, right, right.
- 32:23Sometimes until some bite. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:27It's like you could like, it's like you kind of focus on on the
- 32:30on the leads here and then you, you there are the backup seekers
- 32:35are doing something crazy over here.
- 32:37I know, like, I think it was during.
- 32:39I think it was during the. Their their song Proust, where
- 32:45where Kai kind of like ritually kills that one warrior with
- 32:51that. Where she's like bound behind
- 32:52her back and he and he puts the binding.
- 32:56I can't remember what it was called, but there was an article
- 32:58about that that came in. That was local article that
- 33:06talked about that style. Start with the S.
- 33:09Yeah, I know what you're talking about and I can't remember the
- 33:11name of it, but I did share it. And then Maria comes and she,
- 33:15you know, so it was like it was a, it was a ritual in the
- 33:17ritual, you know, Kai. And that kind of kills this,
- 33:21this this figure. And then Maria comes to like
- 33:24resurrect or or or you know provide that that rebirth cycle
- 33:28you know and I forget which song it was in but I was also looking
- 33:31to the right to where the where the three backup singers they
- 33:37were doing an actual seder ritual there almost.
- 33:41Yup. With the with this staff.
- 33:44With that. This staff.
- 33:45Yeah, they were they were doing, that's what that was.
- 33:48It was actually a Seder type, or even better mock up or mock up
- 33:53of it. No.
- 33:55Yeah, you could definitely tell like that was the intent behind
- 33:57the that that ritual or that that that segment of the ritual,
- 34:01you know and. So yeah, I get it.
- 34:03It's like, you know, where do I look at this point?
- 34:05You know, like and granted the stage isn't, the stage isn't
- 34:08huge, but you don't want to miss anything, you know, and it might
- 34:12miss something. If I look to the left versus to
- 34:14the right, walk, walk me through, if you don't mind, or
- 34:18walk us all through because I'm going to, I'm going to do the
- 34:20same, like walk us through the the moment that you, you know,
- 34:25left your house or left work, you know, like when you started
- 34:30that 45 minute or whatever long. Drive to Huntsville to get
- 34:35there, to get parked like and everything that happened from
- 34:38the time you got there to the time you entered the to entered
- 34:42the venue. Do you remember?
- 34:45Yeah, I remember vividly when I did.
- 34:49And boy it was some points was some parts of it were more
- 34:54intense than others. When I was driving, I just drive
- 35:01down the highway like I normally do.
- 35:02I was just layering like I think a heavy metal in my car because
- 35:09I didn't want to over saturate on on like or folk because I
- 35:13wanted to prepare just get my ears.
- 35:16What do you call it cleansed of of that before going in.
- 35:20Yeah right. You know, it's it's you know,
- 35:26it's like cleansing the palate is what I was saying for your
- 35:29ears. So I start heading over to the
- 35:33metering. But The thing is, I I headed
- 35:37there late. I went there kind of late.
- 35:39Then I wanted to go because before I left the house I had a
- 35:43massive migraine. Oh, wow.
- 35:47You bet around one to two, 1:00 to 2:00.
- 35:50So I took a nap from like 1:00 to 3:00, and then I left.
- 35:55I went, well, actually, I woke up about 2:30 and I got dressed
- 35:59in my garbage stuff, which I regret wearing that big heavy
- 36:04wool cloak I wore. It was hot that day, dude.
- 36:07I mean, yeah, I had to. I had to fold it.
- 36:10Well, The thing is, I had to fold it over, oh, about halfway
- 36:14just to get it off the off the floor enough, even when it was
- 36:17sideways. Because The thing is, if it was
- 36:20just a probably a bit more bearable if it was just a single
- 36:23layer, but I just folded it to make a double layer and that's
- 36:26what was insulating me. Yeah you got that weight and
- 36:30extra layer yeah yeah. So and I'm still learning how to
- 36:33work it where I because it's a it's a personal preference kind
- 36:37of thing to to use is what I was I've watched and stuff of how
- 36:42the how to wear it. It's like there's no right or
- 36:44wrong. It's just however your personal
- 36:45preference is. I still got to figure out how to
- 36:48work it though where it suits me.
- 36:52Either that are going to have to cut it down.
- 36:58So you started your, you started your journey coming off of the
- 37:03the the effects of a migraine headache.
- 37:05Yeah, it was. It was still slight headache
- 37:08there a little bit as I was driving, but it was, it was as
- 37:13intense as it was. Did you take anything prior to
- 37:16like, did you take anything to try to?
- 37:18Yeah, I took like Tylenol. Yeah, yeah, basically I can't.
- 37:25I usually take, I my go to used to be like Aleve or or ibuprofen
- 37:30like Advil or something, but my my antidepressant is not really
- 37:38good with that, those two kind of medications.
- 37:41So I didn't want to risk it. So I'm still taking Tylenol now
- 37:44because I don't want to risk any ill effects from.
- 37:49Sure, taking that. So I took the I took like once
- 37:52in the morning when I woke up. Oh yeah, that's something else.
- 37:57I forgot to tell you. The prior to that to everything
- 38:00else too. I'm sorry if I circle back here,
- 38:03but before I that morning I went, I went to a friend of mine
- 38:06who did a tarot reading because I was trying to figure out I've
- 38:15been having this spiritual What do you call this association for
- 38:23a longest time since I moved, even moved in here.
- 38:25My heart practice has suffered because of that and I hadn't
- 38:30did. I haven't done anything except
- 38:33my I hadn't set my altars up until a couple weeks ago, and
- 38:41because I was, because I was trying to plan on cleansing the
- 38:46space. But the people who said they
- 38:47would help me never help me, and it took a while and stuff.
- 38:52They gave me all these different marching orders and stuff that
- 38:56didn't make sense sometimes because I couldn't find the
- 38:58materials necessary. Really.
- 39:02Yeah. Like they said, like a candle
- 39:04that burned beeswax candle that burns for 9 days straight.
- 39:10What's oddly specific I know, but I get it.
- 39:14Yeah, I get it. I think it's also part of her
- 39:15practice as well because it's it sounds like a part of her
- 39:19practice that she does with a nine day visual.
- 39:23Yeah, that sounds very specific to certain practices, you know
- 39:27where they it has to be a very specific thing and and and and
- 39:30all of that. But yeah, I get it.
- 39:32But yeah, I But then I last week I or the week before Last week I
- 39:37decided the best thing to do is just the the.
- 39:41I had a friend come over, the one that ran my cards.
- 39:45She's the one who cleansed this place back in September and I
- 39:50started set building the spaces and stuff.
- 39:53I just got regular paraffin candles the week before.
- 39:56Before last week, about the Wednesday before actually.
- 40:01And I just did a dedication to each of my spaces.
- 40:06Yeah. To my main altar and I have two
- 40:08altars at my main altar and my. Ancestral altar, OK.
- 40:14So because I wanted to keep those separate, right?
- 40:18Makes sense? So I did that.
- 40:23And then wait. So you did that the day of.
- 40:28Week A week before? A week before before.
- 40:30OK, gotcha. Before the Highline concert,
- 40:32which was on Wednesday and then. But then because I thinking that
- 40:37I need to follow my own intuition instead of what other
- 40:40people tell me. Yeah, and that's what came,
- 40:43that's what, that's what came up in the reading.
- 40:45It's by the way in that reading and confirmed what I was
- 40:51thinking all along. So after that I go home, I
- 40:59think, or go get food or something, I believe, and I come
- 41:02back. You know, take care of
- 41:04Jefferson, which is my dog. Nobody, nobody else, knows who
- 41:09it is. I got to meet him off.
- 41:12Yeah, you met him off screen. But I forgot.
- 41:14I forgot nobody else knew. It's my three-year old Pitbull
- 41:18that I got out back in before August, so they adopted.
- 41:26So he's he's a new member to the hearth here.
- 41:32But I walked in as A and and I believe I started getting that
- 41:38headache, that migraine, and really badly because I had the
- 41:41headache before and I took more Tylenol and then I went to bed.
- 41:44I went to bed for about an hour and a half to two hours.
- 41:48And then I woke up, got ready and started driving, and then I
- 41:56ended up going to the metery there at Ravenwood.
- 42:02And to see what their pre show thing was all about.
- 42:06You know The thing is the owner, Roo Klein, who owns it, she
- 42:14actually knew. She actually knows me.
- 42:16She's met me before because she used to be a part of the old
- 42:20Kindred that I was a part of like 2 Kindreds ago.
- 42:24Yeah, because I've been Roof for several years.
- 42:28Yeah, and. Because we talked, she was like
- 42:32she was. I'm glad to see that I was
- 42:33coming to The Wicker Man was supposed to on Friday.
- 42:37We just got pushed back to a different day, fire ban and all
- 42:41that, yeah. Yeah, she was saying that she
- 42:44was because I was asking questions on the on the
- 42:48meadery's page on Facebook and Rue recognized me and said long
- 42:54time no see and. She gave me some information
- 42:58about that, but she didn't say hello.
- 43:00She was so busy that day. She didn't even say hello during
- 43:03that that party and stuff, because I wouldn't even say
- 43:06anything either because I was like I just said, you're being
- 43:09quiet. But I also talked to a few
- 43:11people as well and then I did. They did the hair braid thing
- 43:14and I saw I got the hair braid that you saw during the before
- 43:20the concert is they were doing that.
- 43:23I didn't. I think I had.
- 43:25I didn't have time for the face painting part, so I didn't do
- 43:28that right. So what I did after Rue and the
- 43:36main people left, that's why I said, well, I better get going.
- 43:42So I went to the So I started going.
- 43:46Took me about a hundred tries to find parking because I had a
- 43:51circle around 50 detours. Yeah, we did a, we did a.
- 43:56We did a loop ourselves when we first got there.
- 43:59Yeah, I did. I did a loop.
- 44:00Then I went because I asked people, I asked people where was
- 44:04I found the parking spaces that was on the BBC official spaces
- 44:09on Clinton St. there. And I asked them where it would
- 44:12be if they're all full, like where to be the closest parking
- 44:15to the Marcy Smith concert hall, which is being held.
- 44:18And she said this one, this particular place.
- 44:21Well, I didn't see it going there and I went past it and I
- 44:25saw another one. It's on Clinton, right?
- 44:28Yeah, it was, yeah, yeah. And it's right next to the the
- 44:34concert hall there. I didn't see that one.
- 44:37I I went past. I went to the one that says the
- 44:39jury selection place or something.
- 44:43You know it's a it's it's one more down about four blocks away
- 44:48from the from where we were at. So I had to walk four blocks.
- 44:51The thing is, I went around about several times because I
- 44:55there's so many one way streets there, you know, right.
- 44:58The thing is, I don't know why I can't navigate downtown
- 45:01Huntsville, but I could. But when I went to the
- 45:06Charleston last year, last summer, I with with my ex, I
- 45:13could I I could find my way around, even though there was
- 45:17one way streets there too. So it's like a little bit of a
- 45:22little bit of a of an adventure for you.
- 45:25Yeah, everybody has a everybody's downtown.
- 45:28Every major city's downtown area has one way streets, right?
- 45:32A bunch of them that you can't circle back and you have to
- 45:35figure out how to get back to where you were at.
- 45:38Yeah, it's like I need to get right there.
- 45:40But no, you got to go a half a mile this way to get there again
- 45:42because. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:43So yeah, I went. So I went down parking.
- 45:47I. Took me a while.
- 45:48I get put on my app so I can figure out where the concert
- 45:52hall it was to where I can walk to it.
- 45:55I thought I passed about 6 times I guess.
- 45:58I don't think I did. I didn't.
- 45:59I didn't actually do it. I just just stopped and I
- 46:05thought I I thought I passed it walking and stuff.
- 46:07But I was like, no, it's a little further.
- 46:09It's a little further. It's a little further.
- 46:10And then I found and then I found it by going down and asked
- 46:14people where it was. That stuff.
- 46:16And. They showed me where it was at,
- 46:17and then I found it. And then I went inside and I got
- 46:20in line, found the lines like because I was making sure it
- 46:24wasn't different lines for the different portals, you know?
- 46:30Yeah. It was just one single line when
- 46:34we got there, we were we got there like you I I talked to you
- 46:38and and you were in line and then we had been sitting in the
- 46:41parking lot. But I'm just like well, they say
- 46:43doors are an hour before. So I'm like, do we go in, do we
- 46:45not? No.
- 46:47The white, Yeah. See, even even Rue Klein, they
- 46:54took pictures of it beforehand. They they were in the front, in
- 46:57the wall. They got, they got their, they
- 47:00got, they found their way there and got there earlier.
- 47:04Yeah, which if you've got like standings, you know, like
- 47:06general admission, orchestra, whatever, the standing room
- 47:11tickets, I would say that if you had that, you would definitely
- 47:14want to be there early to get a good spot close to the stage,
- 47:18right? If you're standing, we had
- 47:19seats. I'm like it really didn't matter
- 47:22where I was in line. As long as I get to be there
- 47:24before the show starts. You know if all as long as I'm
- 47:26indoors an hour before the show starts and I think I'm.
- 47:29Good. And honestly, I wasn't.
- 47:32I wasn't too bummed out that I got seats either, because I was
- 47:36like, I don't really. This is not a band I would like
- 47:39to stand for right now. You know, like I would like to
- 47:43sit because I have an extremely orgoraphobic, you know, and
- 47:46being right. But plus you get a better
- 47:50vantage point when you're up in the seated area, right?
- 47:53You get to see more of everything.
- 47:55Yeah. And I heard that it was like, it
- 47:57was like like an amphitheater, kind of like setting it's tilted
- 48:01upwards. So that was like I looked at it
- 48:05and like these everybody says it doesn't matter where you're at,
- 48:08you have good seat views from the.
- 48:11No matter what. And so I found wrote after
- 48:15because it took me a while to find seats.
- 48:16The seats I believe you got, I was going to go after.
- 48:20But The thing is they wouldn't let me split two seats.
- 48:27They won't they? If he had it seemed like he had
- 48:30three, four seats and you put one in the middle between one
- 48:33seat to another. They didn't want you to do that.
- 48:35It would put they won't you on the ends, right?
- 48:38Of of that section. So it took me a lot of bouncing
- 48:43around trying to get the tickets there, but I finally got those
- 48:45tickets and I wasn't disappointed where I was at
- 48:51good. Because I could see things fine.
- 48:53I could see us all where you were at.
- 48:55I could see everybody on the floor.
- 48:57I can see. I can see all the way across the
- 48:59hall. Sometime in the in the you were
- 49:02seated. We were seated as close as you
- 49:06could get to the stage without being on the floor.
- 49:08The last front row before the orchestra pit area, you know.
- 49:13Yeah, a friend of mine got tickets close to there too.
- 49:16And like, I think she got row A. That's where we were.
- 49:20We were row. A Yeah, she yeah, she was 2 year
- 49:22old. She was like a like 2 year old.
- 49:24Rats. Was her name Kit or Katie or Kit
- 49:28or something like that, 'cause there were some people that,
- 49:31yeah, there were some people that were like, I'm right next
- 49:33to you there that whatever that, you know?
- 49:35Well, she's called Kit online right now, but she's her.
- 49:40I think her real name is I am. I'm not going to disclose her
- 49:42real name, but. Yeah, she was also when my old
- 49:47kid proved with mates at one point I think she wants to do a
- 49:51get together and do a yo blot very good coming at this coming
- 49:57season because she was wanting to put that together And I said
- 50:00how important if we do it like on the tradition, the
- 50:02traditional time which is about the 20 near the 25th of January.
- 50:08Yep, Yep. That's when we're our tribe's
- 50:10doing our thing. Well, we're doing ours because
- 50:12the 25th falls on like a Thursday, so.
- 50:15We're going to do our thing on that, like Saturday or whatever.
- 50:18Yeah, that's what we're probably thinking about doing as well,
- 50:20because I don't have a tribe right now anymore because ours
- 50:24is standing up back in May. But the last one we had.
- 50:28And so I'm just doing what we I just called, wandering around
- 50:32and finding them within the community and figuring out where
- 50:35I was like to then where there's a lot of that going around.
- 50:40And who has my best interests is what I'm looking for.
- 50:43Yeah, definitely. So.
- 50:45And I'm glad to hear that you had like a really interesting
- 50:48journey there to, you know, not just at the event but like
- 50:51everything leading up to the event.
- 50:52And you know, I got to say like for somebody that I deal with
- 50:56migraines periodically, they can be, it could be crippling man.
- 51:00Like they can put your own And out for the count.
- 51:04There's no way possible that you can even think of even standing
- 51:07up, let alone drive or anything like that.
- 51:10So the fact that, you know you caught it early on you took some
- 51:12stuff and there was, you know you're.
- 51:14Able to get that was like pray, like go away, please, yeah.
- 51:19Yeah, go away. And I had an ice pack on, you
- 51:23know, I had gotten where darkened my rooms as as much as
- 51:30I could. Got the fan going.
- 51:33Yep. Cold.
- 51:35Dark. Yeah, that's just like the.
- 51:37Best I strip down, I strip down like to the bare minimal and so
- 51:42I can get cold, cold on me because I think I I think it was
- 51:47like a heated, I mean maybe that's been just a migraine.
- 51:49Maybe it's also been like a heated a heat thing too, because
- 51:53it was pretty warm that that afternoon that before noon and
- 51:57being out there probably triggered that.
- 52:01It could have, It could have, you know.
- 52:02You're riding me or running around doing errands and stuff,
- 52:05right? Morning.
- 52:07I know. When we left, when we left, when
- 52:09we left Tennessee. My wife and I, we left like
- 52:15round two in the afternoon, you know?
- 52:17Yeah, 'cause it was about a two hour drive from us, you know,
- 52:20and we took kind of the scenic route through like Tullahoma,
- 52:24Lynchburg, that area, right. We didn't go down 65.
- 52:26We, we we took the back roads and stuff all the way through a
- 52:28really nice scenic area. So that was kind of a cool pre
- 52:32ritual ritual, right? Getting to experience the more
- 52:38you know pristine scenery you know, versus just like a
- 52:42highway. And then you know we get there
- 52:45and it's like well shit you know when we're here and it's 3 hours
- 52:49before the doors open, we got there like 4 and they're like in
- 52:51the show doesn't start till 8 and you know doors don't open
- 52:54till 7. So like what do we do to kill
- 52:56time? And so we we looked across from
- 53:01like the venue there. I don't know if you know if like
- 53:03when you got there, if you noticed it was daylight, but
- 53:04there was like this body of water, like a little lake or
- 53:07something area. Yeah, it's good.
- 53:10It's a good spring park park or right there and I don't know if
- 53:14you've walked there like so we walked around it right and they
- 53:18got this like little you know footbridge that goes over and
- 53:20like these little like monuments and and artsy type stuff and
- 53:25I've. Only been there one time.
- 53:27I've only been there one time because they they used to
- 53:29usually have what's called the Big Spring jam there.
- 53:32OK? And I saw like, Buckcherry
- 53:34there, and Avish 7th Pole was supposed to play there that
- 53:38night, but it was that was a year in Shadows just completely
- 53:40destroyed his voice. Oh, I see.
- 53:44Like that's what you get for not doing your exercises.
- 53:47Yeah, you know that's that's the thing.
- 53:49You know, we we, we, we did, we walked around and like it was
- 53:53neat because even though it's kind of like in the city, you
- 53:57got like ducks and fish and and and all the, you know, spirits
- 54:01of nature that are there. And we're walking around and we
- 54:06would find feathers, like duck feathers, you know, which are
- 54:09prolific. But walking around that space
- 54:15was a bit of a ritual in itself. We we collect the duck feathers.
- 54:18My wife found a ribbon. She like created this little
- 54:21flower like bouquet, almost like what you would do with flowers.
- 54:24But instead it was feathers, you know.
- 54:28And that was all leading up to the moment prior of of entering
- 54:35the venue, you know before it got, you know before the sun
- 54:38started going down, we started thinking about going inside and
- 54:40getting back in. So that was like a neat
- 54:43transition point of you know, we, we we go on this journey, we
- 54:46we travel, we arrive and we find a place that's, you know there's
- 54:51there's a lot of people and yeah it's in a city, but it was very
- 54:54nature focused, you know what I mean?
- 54:56And and they were the spirits of nature that were around and I
- 54:59think going into something like high lung, having that to kind
- 55:04of set the tone for you, at least for us going into that was
- 55:09was beautiful and we didn't plan for that cause again, we've
- 55:11never been to that area before. We hadn't been to that venue.
- 55:15And so we didn't know it was just like, Oh well, here it is.
- 55:19Let's go explore, let's go check it out.
- 55:21Yeah, he threw me off as it has changed so much.
- 55:25And then all that construction's just throwing me off because
- 55:27I've been there a couple times. I've been there a couple times
- 55:30and I've I mostly go to the arena for the arena stuff.
- 55:34I went to the Playhouse one time to see Gallagher.
- 55:39Nice. I know he's still doing stuff.
- 55:42Oh he's he's not doing. He was he was.
- 55:44He's not well, he's he's passed on right now but but I mean like
- 55:48back then like I don't know how long ago that was but.
- 55:50That was, that was at least 10 or 15 years ago.
- 55:53Oh, OK. OK.
- 55:55That was that was I mean you can I mean.
- 55:57Things team early 20s years, early 20s.
- 55:59When that happened, yeah, I mean 10 or 15 years ago, man, that
- 56:01was a whole different. Area Yeah.
- 56:04Oh yeah. It's like things have changed
- 56:06and and they actually got where it's lit up now like.
- 56:12We all got the the like the blue lights on the stand on the arena
- 56:16Dome around the outside. So and this is after they and
- 56:21they I think the because you have the Mars Music Hall which
- 56:24they just built couple or just finished a couple of about a
- 56:30year or two ago wish they had to close it down briefly because it
- 56:35because part of it collapsed. Before they had to, until they
- 56:40got, until they got the, I think.
- 56:41I think it was like the awning outside collapsed or something
- 56:46and they had and they had to make sure it was secure and
- 56:48safe. Requires it.
- 56:51So and it was funny because the the Sunday before that at at
- 56:58there with war came. I didn't I didn't even go to
- 57:04that one. I was like, should we go and
- 57:06take a? Yeah, I haven't seen.
- 57:09I haven't seen gore life. I was like, I was debating
- 57:12whether I want to go see Gore Life.
- 57:13I was like, no, Halo's right near that time frame.
- 57:16I'm like, Dang. I was like one extreme from one
- 57:20extreme to the other. Yeah, and a little prefix here.
- 57:24I took the I took Wednesday through Friday off work vacation
- 57:28time for Highland. Yeah, not just for Highland, but
- 57:31for I took. I was going to take off that
- 57:34Thursday to the recover from. How long?
- 57:37Because I didn't know how late we're going to get back out of
- 57:39there out of the show and stuff. And I know that I've got now
- 57:45shows as late as 2:00 in the morning.
- 57:48And I was preparing for that and then I was like, well, if I'm
- 57:51going to do that I might as well take Wednesday off to prepare.
- 57:55So as they're like well I'm taking Wednesday and Thursday
- 57:57off and I have an event I had the Wicker Man Friday, so I
- 58:00might as well take the Friday off too.
- 58:02Just making the whole half week take a half week and.
- 58:06Just chill for the right reasons, you know what I mean?
- 58:10Like I think going into something like high long like if
- 58:12you can for anybody that listens and watches.
- 58:15I I forget how many days are left on their their their U.S.
- 58:18tour at this point when this gets aired or if it'll be
- 58:22finished. But like, if you if you haven't
- 58:25made it out to high long on this tour, when they do come around
- 58:29again, I think anybody that listens and watches that is as
- 58:34even remotely thinking about going, make the necessary
- 58:37preparations to get to the one that's closest to where you are.
- 58:42Right when I when I saw Highland last week, I was like kind of
- 58:48like silently kicking myself for having not seen them the last
- 58:51two times they've come here, even though they haven't come.
- 58:56Like the closest I think they've come in my proximity was
- 59:01probably Chicago or maybe North Carolina.
- 59:04And I'm like, why didn't I go and see them before and
- 59:07experience this before, right? If you if you know in advance
- 59:12when they're coming right and and they're in like 500 miles
- 59:15let's say and I and I and that's a big area.
- 59:20Right. It was in a 500 mile radius.
- 59:23If there's a if it's a 500 mile radius, I don't know man.
- 59:26Like plan it, figure it out I think the I think.
- 59:29The farthest I've driven was like 250.
- 59:34Oh, I've gone to Chicago. I mean, I've I've driven, I've
- 59:36driven 800 miles one way for for for one concert.
- 59:41I've never flown on a plane to go to a concert yet, but.
- 59:46I said that I would never before in the past to go places, but
- 59:51but it's not. It's more than just a concert,
- 59:53right? Like and that's the thing.
- 59:55It's like it there there's. It's like a ritual in itself.
- 1:00:00Yeah, it it's a whole ritual, you know, And being in the same
- 1:00:04enclosure with other people, even if you don't know them,
- 1:00:07like everybody has this kind of understanding of what's going
- 1:00:10on. And you may have never met them
- 1:00:11before, you've never counted them before, but you meet under
- 1:00:15this canopy, under the same central area, and everybody just
- 1:00:18kind of knows how to behave. They know how to be great and
- 1:00:22they know how to act. And they know.
- 1:00:25The person that I was talking to to my left that was sitting next
- 1:00:28to me, he he was, he told me he was Christian.
- 1:00:33Really. Yeah, And he was talking about
- 1:00:35it and everything. And then throughout the whole
- 1:00:38concert, he was acting like a Pagan.
- 1:00:41He was hollering, he was howling.
- 1:00:43He was doing all sorts of stuff. I'm like, you don't think this
- 1:00:49is a full Pagan? Rituals, like everything you
- 1:00:51know. I did make one mistake.
- 1:00:53I did. What make one mistake though?
- 1:00:55When I when I do it, I usually have a force of habit of
- 1:00:58recording whenever they first come off with the bands first
- 1:01:01come on sometimes. And then I realized this is a
- 1:01:04ritual. So I immediately shut my phone
- 1:01:07off. Well, that's off, but turn off
- 1:01:09the recording and deleted the video of the I recorded a
- 1:01:14little. Bit, yeah.
- 1:01:16And and The funny thing is, is like, I wasn't trying to record
- 1:01:18a lot, I was just mainly trying to get like pictures.
- 1:01:22Yeah, me too. Well, I didn't want to get
- 1:01:23pictures. I was trying to just get video,
- 1:01:24a few videos, but they were really, they were really strict
- 1:01:28about it, Like, oh, you can't have your phone up for more than
- 1:01:3010 seconds. I'm like, OK, that's an odd, you
- 1:01:36know, like, but I get it right and I respect.
- 1:01:38It well, like I'm even forcing it from where I was sitting
- 1:01:41because those people was holding it for 5 minutes.
- 1:01:43I had the 5 minutes and down by where I was, they were like I
- 1:01:47had, I had one of their guys come up to me.
- 1:01:48He's like, I'm telling you 10 seconds.
- 1:01:50I'm like, you know what? At this point I'm just putting
- 1:01:52my phone away because it was early on in the show.
- 1:01:55Yeah, it was early on in the thing and I'm like, yeah, you
- 1:01:57know what? I got what I needed.
- 1:01:58I'm good. Let me let me let me focus.
- 1:02:01On I wish I got pictures too, but I just like, I just got a
- 1:02:05few video of just two big big video of good sized videos of
- 1:02:11part of it, you know. And I deleted what one which was
- 1:02:17during the opening ceremony because I realized that was.
- 1:02:21A Pagan Richard? I didn't record any of the
- 1:02:23opening ceremony. Yeah.
- 1:02:25And I realized I shouldn't have done that because I realized
- 1:02:28that's the space I didn't want to want to record.
- 1:02:31Yeah. And then so I'll kick myself
- 1:02:34from doing that. But I made it.
- 1:02:35I made the corrections to. Yeah, necessary steps to that.
- 1:02:39So that's a little confession of mine.
- 1:02:41But we're always sitting. I had a confession too because I
- 1:02:46was like, I'm literally front row.
- 1:02:48I'm row A, you know, and they start like when when it's, you
- 1:02:53know, Hari Gusty Taiwas and they start playing in Mighty on
- 1:02:58right. And I'm like, I stand up and I'm
- 1:03:00getting into it and I stood there for like the whole full
- 1:03:02thing. And then I hear this tap on my
- 1:03:04or I feel this tap on my shoulder and the guy behind me
- 1:03:06is like, hey man, you mind sitting down because like people
- 1:03:083 rows behind you can't see. And I'm like.
- 1:03:13I didn't see anybody's had to show up, but people are
- 1:03:15wondering if we're all going to stand there, you know, or just
- 1:03:19sit, you know? I just figured that they would,
- 1:03:21but understanding. Yeah, well, the girl that was
- 1:03:24next to my right, the woman that, the woman that was next to
- 1:03:27my right was asking that same question.
- 1:03:28Like, are we supposed to stand? Are we going to sit?
- 1:03:32And then as soon as they started, like, I guess we're
- 1:03:34sitting. Yeah, you kind of have to read
- 1:03:38the room. But being in the front there, I
- 1:03:40couldn't read the room, the device in the back of my head
- 1:03:42and I didn't. You know, in hindsight, if you
- 1:03:45guys are sitting in the front row and it's a seating sort of
- 1:03:48place, be respectful of the people around behind you because
- 1:03:52you're going to be in trance, you're going to be taken up in
- 1:03:54the moment and you're going to be feeling it.
- 1:03:56But be respectful of the people around you and behind you,
- 1:03:59because if they can't see it, they're not experiencing it in
- 1:04:01their way. So let you know.
- 1:04:03Be respectful, everybody. And once I did that, it was the
- 1:04:06last time again, it wasn't bad. Like they were cool about it.
- 1:04:09Just, hey man, do you mind sitting down?
- 1:04:11Yeah, sure, no problem. Sorry about that.
- 1:04:12Yeah, it was the last time I went to, the last time I last
- 1:04:16time I was at amphitheater like that.
- 1:04:17Kind of like it's what it was more of an outdoor amphitheater.
- 1:04:20It was for. It was a sort of a metal
- 1:04:22concert. It was actually to see corn,
- 1:04:25while way different, they were, they were down, they were down
- 1:04:29in Hoover and we went down to that show.
- 1:04:31And everybody was standing, even we had seats we were sitting.
- 1:04:36We sat down for the during the in between the bands and stuff
- 1:04:40but and we're while we're waiting on the show to start but
- 1:04:43everybody was standing. Well, I think everybody did
- 1:04:48eventually stand up, at least for I think it was the closing
- 1:04:51part, the Hummer hippier. Hummer Hippier set set of the of
- 1:04:55the ritual, right, like where everyone's dancing on stage.
- 1:04:59That was almost like an invitation, like every fucking
- 1:05:01body. Get up and dance, you know.
- 1:05:03Well, they were. Telling everybody to get They
- 1:05:04were. Telling everybody to give up.
- 1:05:07They were emotions like they were like hell.
- 1:05:10Yeah, yeah, everybody started doing it.
- 1:05:11And everybody, they were like, you know, it's like they were
- 1:05:14trying to Rev up, the Rev up the people to cut up to start
- 1:05:19getting active during this part, right?
- 1:05:22Because this is a a community sort of thing, right?
- 1:05:25Like, be a part of it. Dance with us, you know?
- 1:05:28And you had to be where you had to be where I was.
- 1:05:31I was in the perfect position, too, because the right top
- 1:05:34speaker, yeah, it's like you got, it's kind of like a like a
- 1:05:38bow, kind of like, well, the bottom section of it was like
- 1:05:41aimed right at me, right here. And I could feel that drum beat
- 1:05:47just hit my chest every single time.
- 1:05:51Did you get emotional at all during the show?
- 1:05:53During during the. Yeah, I got goosebumps, Like
- 1:05:57goosebumps. Some of my emotions were there.
- 1:05:59I didn't have, like, the alibi ritual experience like some
- 1:06:01people have. You know, I went through like a
- 1:06:05kind of a roller coaster of emotions, you know?
- 1:06:07Like there were, there were, there were moments where I felt
- 1:06:09like just so alive, like just so empowered.
- 1:06:13And then there were times where I was, like, brought to tears a
- 1:06:15little bit, you know? And then there was the joy.
- 1:06:18There was this happiness. There was this, you know,
- 1:06:21euphoric kind of feeling of of experiencing what I'm
- 1:06:24experiencing and realizing that what they put into their craft
- 1:06:30is so genuine. You know, it's like this isn't
- 1:06:36for show. You know what I mean?
- 1:06:38Like, sure it's a show. It is.
- 1:06:39It is a show. It is a.
- 1:06:41It's like performance theater almost.
- 1:06:43It is. It's absolutely that.
- 1:06:44It's it's Ritual theater. It's the Performance theater.
- 1:06:47It's it's it's as pure and as genuine that they can get and
- 1:06:53and to keep it that way, having the fame having the audience
- 1:06:59right. Having the diversity that their
- 1:07:02crowd generates that's that's amazing.
- 1:07:07You know what I mean? Because I think one of the
- 1:07:08things that at least in modern Paganism you know people get a
- 1:07:12little gun shy about is having ritual or or holding ritual with
- 1:07:18people who you don't know. You know and I think in the in
- 1:07:23the in the context of a practicing heathen or practicing
- 1:07:26Pagan, right, that that still needs to be something kept at A
- 1:07:30at a close and and and boundaries need to be set and
- 1:07:34maintained. But like Highland, just, I don't
- 1:07:42know like it it was. I wouldn't say that I walked
- 1:07:45away there feeling any different as a heathen.
- 1:07:49As a Pagan myself I I think that what I walked away with feeling
- 1:07:55was just nurtured. You know what I mean?
- 1:07:58Like, yeah, I felt I felt more revived.
- 1:08:01Like I felt like my my Heatha hasn't had more revived.
- 1:08:05That it was like the start of my like a rebirth of my of my path
- 1:08:09there. Because I had came into the that
- 1:08:12revelation I told earlier about me trying to follow my own
- 1:08:17intuition on this and that the inaction, the inaction of not
- 1:08:22doing anything in my home that's caused that disconnect and
- 1:08:27stagnation, you mean? Yeah, and The thing is just
- 1:08:32after the tarot reading and stuff after Halon.
- 1:08:34The next evening I had I went back to the to the metery again
- 1:08:39and that's when I started talking with Rue more because
- 1:08:42she now noticed that I was there, you know because I had AI
- 1:08:44had a Rue reading with that with Karen who was visiting in
- 1:08:49Florida and she read it and it confirmed what my friends Tara
- 1:08:54read session just came out but a little bit more deep more a
- 1:09:00little bit different details but the same concepts and.
- 1:09:04Same summary, same same summary though.
- 1:09:08And it put a whole, and both of those been a whole new
- 1:09:11perspective the way I'm, I'm doing things now.
- 1:09:16So it was a really big ritual week and that's why I'm so
- 1:09:20exhausted right now. It's just like I've had only
- 1:09:24about 6 hour sleep days. Because I couldn't.
- 1:09:29I couldn't. It was one thing my sleep
- 1:09:31cycles. It's just completely whack,
- 1:09:33'cause I'm used, so used to waking up in the mornings, you
- 1:09:35know, that if I even go to bed late, I can't sleep in past a
- 1:09:40certain time. Yeah, your circadian rhythm gets
- 1:09:44set, you know? Yeah.
- 1:09:47Yeah, it's like you had a pretty you had, you've had, well, you
- 1:09:50know all. For all intents and purposes,
- 1:09:52you've had almost nearly a week long, to varying degrees ritual
- 1:09:56experience. So yeah, and then it kind of.
- 1:10:01Die down about Saturday night, during winter nights as I was
- 1:10:06doing it myself, because I went to the Rim fair before that.
- 1:10:09Didn't even stay that long because I was not.
- 1:10:13I was running on so little sleep, you know, because what
- 1:10:17happened was we had a the we had the rain ritual Friday.
- 1:10:24And then, after the rain ritual, I went to see a a friend of
- 1:10:27mine's band played the last time at the Copper Top in that in
- 1:10:30Huntsville. And they they were supposed to
- 1:10:33go on at 12:30, but they get to go on till about 1130.
- 1:10:37So they were they cut their own set a little bit short and they
- 1:10:43canceled the the costume contest, which annoyed the hell.
- 1:10:49I mean, because I was in my ritual guard, you know, I have a
- 1:10:53room paid on my forehead and stuff.
- 1:10:57Our mind room actually paid on my forehead for the rain ritual.
- 1:11:00I come in and people are sitting there thinking I'm Jesus.
- 1:11:06I look like Jesus. I have a a horn.
- 1:11:09The thing is, I couldn't carry my.
- 1:11:10I didn't want to carry my axe inside, you know.
- 1:11:12Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You're the you're, you're,
- 1:11:15you're, you're the Jesus that was portrayed in the Halian.
- 1:11:19You're the Germanic Jesus. Yeah, but I I've always I'm
- 1:11:23using you're the I should be used to this by now because.
- 1:11:26Well, I happened to hold it in so long because my since my beer
- 1:11:29has grown out. But when I had it really shorter
- 1:11:32ever since I had my beard when I was growing out, it was full.
- 1:11:36It was like, you look like Jesus and I'll be like don't tell
- 1:11:41anybody I'm here. I'm on vacation.
- 1:11:42You want holiday? I'm on holiday.
- 1:11:48I try to get. I try to get away from get away
- 1:11:50from God. He's annoying ass all the time.
- 1:11:56Talking about crying for people's sins and shit.
- 1:11:59Whatever. He grabbed me a couple of times
- 1:12:01and like you ain't in charge of me.
- 1:12:08But yeah, I mean that they they have that riffer too.
- 1:12:10Somebody said that I was like, Jesus with the riffer.
- 1:12:12I'm like, but here's the thing, I had my axe with me that time,
- 1:12:15my my big stigox on me and but The thing is I got to give me a
- 1:12:19tunic that's different colors than than that.
- 1:12:22I got to get a little bit of that or something.
- 1:12:27Yeah. I had to have a little bit of
- 1:12:28variety, I don't think. I don't think I'd not get.
- 1:12:32After this year I'm retiring the living leg rats because they
- 1:12:35don't stay up on me at all. I'm going to actually get wool
- 1:12:37because they clean better. Yeah.
- 1:12:41But also with the other thing that was killing it too is I'm
- 1:12:43wearing go in combat boots that flare out a little bit more.
- 1:12:46So taper down like your traditional style style.
- 1:12:52Age boots they have from the the time period.
- 1:12:55Yeah, yeah. So that was a great story, dude.
- 1:12:59I mean, I'm just, I'm still kind of again, like reflecting, you
- 1:13:02know what I mean? Like, I, I, I don't think you
- 1:13:04can go to anything like Highland and leave it.
- 1:13:09And then that'd be the last thing that you think about that
- 1:13:12night. What was what was really
- 1:13:14interesting though, is that the rape, the Midri hosted them for
- 1:13:18after party. I know, I know.
- 1:13:21I heard about that. And I'm like.
- 1:13:24And I saw that. I saw that artwork they drew it
- 1:13:26is it is phenomenal in person. It's huge.
- 1:13:30It's bigger than you think. It looks on on the by the
- 1:13:33picture that it was taken and they were and it's like y'all
- 1:13:35better do something to make it where y'all this place ever has
- 1:13:39to change studios or someone that you tear out that wall.
- 1:13:42Yeah, like carve a piece of that drywall out and take it with
- 1:13:44you. Don't paint over that, please.
- 1:13:46Like, that's that's history, man.
- 1:13:48That's Oh yeah, take a piece of that.
- 1:13:50But you can always put more drywall back on just or whatever
- 1:13:54it was in there. Yeah, that night that.
- 1:13:58That Thursday night though, when I went there and talked to Roof
- 1:14:01for a while, After talking and stuff, I kind of got myself a
- 1:14:05little too tipsy. Well, look, I only had, I only.
- 1:14:09Had I only had two 12 I think I only had like two of the bigger
- 1:14:13glasses of Mead there. I gotta say you know when I
- 1:14:18don't want to go I I didn't plan on going into and I didn't make
- 1:14:22any provisions to go into high lung in any sort of like I don't
- 1:14:27want. I only been there fucked up like
- 1:14:28just to be real. Like I don't want to be in there
- 1:14:30like obliterated off of any sort of substance.
- 1:14:32If I can take something that's gonna like enhance the
- 1:14:34experience whatever, then that's fine.
- 1:14:36And I had, but I had I had a reaction to it that prior to the
- 1:14:41ritual I was like, I ain't feeling too hot.
- 1:14:43Fortunately it was hours before the whole thing started where I
- 1:14:47could get myself right, you know cleanse my mouth and all that
- 1:14:51sort of stuff and just be in a in a better state physically,
- 1:14:55you know. But that in itself too, man,
- 1:14:57like sometimes, like when we when we when we I had.
- 1:15:01Some I had some to breathe that night, that night of, but it
- 1:15:05wasn't as much as I had that Thursday night.
- 1:15:09Well, yeah. And and it was after the ritual
- 1:15:11at that point, you know. But I know, like.
- 1:15:13It was before actually is there the pre party though I I had the
- 1:15:18I had like a what they call a flight which is not that much
- 1:15:20alcohol in it but the but the other one was a little Tim was a
- 1:15:26little bit more than because they're a little bit larger cuts
- 1:15:31so I because I had one during my three reading at Thursday night
- 1:15:35and then. I came out of it and I ordered
- 1:15:37another one. I just sat there talking to Rude
- 1:15:39just to catch up and stuff. Yeah, I definitely don't think
- 1:15:44you should go into anything like this like totally inebriated or
- 1:15:49intoxicated to. The oh, yeah.
- 1:15:51I wasn't like I said I stopped as soon as I had that flight of
- 1:15:56it because it was just so weak, you know, I just like, I'm not
- 1:15:58going to drink as much because I had to.
- 1:16:00I had to drive from here to there, you know, and.
- 1:16:05I don't want to get too messed up, so yeah.
- 1:16:09I leave there, right? It's not about like getting to a
- 1:16:12show and like, let's get fucked up to the Max, dude.
- 1:16:15Like, this is a different experience, you know?
- 1:16:17And if you I didn't. Even go.
- 1:16:18I didn't even go to the concession.
- 1:16:21Yeah, I didn't either. I mean, I was there for the
- 1:16:23experience, not for the, not for the peanut gallery.
- 1:16:28You know, and I didn't think about getting them into the
- 1:16:31merch lane first thing, you know, I thought.
- 1:16:35Which I could have done, you know, I could have taken my time
- 1:16:37and gone into the into that, but I went mealing the doors inside
- 1:16:39my seats and just stayed there because I didn't get my merch
- 1:16:45until after. Some people recommend getting it
- 1:16:48early on. That way you don't have to worry
- 1:16:51about is my size sold out or is the option limited, right,
- 1:16:56Because a lot of people will go there early on, get all their
- 1:16:59stuff, and then by the time you get to the end of the show,
- 1:17:01everything that you may have wanted is gone.
- 1:17:05So I know some people do recommend that if you're going
- 1:17:07to get merch, like get there early enough where you can get
- 1:17:10your merch early and either put it back in your vehicle or carry
- 1:17:13it with you into the ritual or or something that way you.
- 1:17:16Know like that, unlike that for the main like a main band or
- 1:17:18something like that. But I like to get merch from the
- 1:17:21opening acts after I hear the opening acts.
- 1:17:25Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah, different.
- 1:17:26Sort of, yeah. Because it's like.
- 1:17:30Because you don't know how they're going to sound.
- 1:17:31Because I was like, I was like, I'm not going to listen to the
- 1:17:33opening acts till I hear the first hand.
- 1:17:36Because that way I can be blown away.
- 1:17:38Yeah. And then this was a totally
- 1:17:40different thing. I mean, this was just Highland,
- 1:17:42so you know that there wasn't like, who do I listen to do it
- 1:17:46before or after? Like it was a night of Highland.
- 1:17:50Yeah, luckily they they had my sizes T-shirt after the show and
- 1:17:55the line wasn't that long because everybody else got their
- 1:17:57stuff beforehand, yeah. I wasn't sure.
- 1:18:01I think you may have accidentally got into that line.
- 1:18:05Well, my wife ended up getting our shirts.
- 1:18:07So she got a shirt for me and a shirt for for me.
- 1:18:10And I was standing kind of out in that general area and there
- 1:18:13were some people that were like, hey, can I get, you know, can we
- 1:18:15get a picture and and. And whatnot.
- 1:18:17She was over here looking, but I I know she ended up getting up
- 1:18:20at one point and going to get our merch, so.
- 1:18:24Yeah, well, I didn't realize where y'all you were heading was
- 1:18:27towards that merch line. Too, because wherever everybody
- 1:18:31else is having, because that's where that big long line was but
- 1:18:34you ended up in. I think it was connected to
- 1:18:38that, but I don't know remember how y'all got in because because
- 1:18:41my portal was like portal two I think right there on that far
- 1:18:48and I didn't know if that was the same portal but Y'all had it
- 1:18:50in there, I don't know. All I know is we were in a line
- 1:18:53and we ended up in the in the the Amphitheatre.
- 1:18:57Seated area I got to walk from your to your seat.
- 1:19:02From my seat, yeah, yeah. You weren't just a few rows
- 1:19:06behind us. Yeah, I even made the reference
- 1:19:08seat on a comet referencing spit wads.
- 1:19:12Yeah, yeah. It was like the back of your
- 1:19:15head. Just you some.
- 1:19:19Just to just to just to just to take half the time while we're
- 1:19:22waiting. I've been like, what the hell
- 1:19:24was that? Oh, it's Blake.
- 1:19:26Never mind. Yeah.
- 1:19:27It's like I'm going to be a sniper for a while, but yeah
- 1:19:32man, it was a great, it was a great experience and thank you
- 1:19:36for coming. On here.
- 1:19:37Yeah. I can't stop listening to him
- 1:19:38now. So, OK, so that was the next
- 1:19:41thing I was going to say is like, you weren't that big of a
- 1:19:44fan before. Yeah, they didn't, they didn't,
- 1:19:47like strike your fancy or whatever before.
- 1:19:49But having gone and seen them live, how is it now?
- 1:19:52For you it's. I'm always this way.
- 1:19:56If I ever see a band live or stuff, I just can't stop
- 1:19:58listening to them really for a while.
- 1:20:00Yeah, I'll I'll, I'll do it until I just wear them out and
- 1:20:04it's time to change. And I haven't worn them out yet
- 1:20:08so. But they left the lasting
- 1:20:10impression on you and and it because that live experience,
- 1:20:13right? So even if you take a.
- 1:20:14Break even. It's like, yeah, you know, I
- 1:20:16needed something else. Like you've always got that to
- 1:20:18rebound and go back to. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:21And if they come back around again which they probably will
- 1:20:24because the hospitality that they that I forgot who it was
- 1:20:28that they left a comment on the beatery page about their the the
- 1:20:36after show party. They it was one of the members
- 1:20:38that was talking about all the hospitality there.
- 1:20:41So that might. Be a a seller to them.
- 1:20:45Get some bat. Yeah that's a good sign when one
- 1:20:49of the members takes time to to make a a comment on a post and
- 1:20:53and and you know speak up the hospitality like that's a good
- 1:20:59sign. I mean and that's what I'm so
- 1:21:01glad for. You know what I mean is that
- 1:21:03people in this section of the country which you know for those
- 1:21:07that listen and and and whatever my content you know watch my
- 1:21:10content it's like I'm in the I'm in the South right.
- 1:21:13Blake, he's in Alabama. We're in the Bible belt the
- 1:21:17almost the belt buckle of the Bible belt of the United States.
- 1:21:20Right. A lot of churches a lot of
- 1:21:22Christian influence right. And look at the vibrant, active,
- 1:21:28welcoming, Pagan, non traditional religious
- 1:21:31communities that exist here that that it's it's large here it is
- 1:21:37large right. Like it's it's one.
- 1:21:39Of the largest. From from all the way from
- 1:21:44Florence to to Huntsville has the huge probably the largest
- 1:21:48taken sector. If I if I if people are anywhere
- 1:21:52else now bound, please correct me.
- 1:21:54I'll stand corrected. But this is the most I've seen
- 1:21:58in our state was in the north, in the north, north of the of
- 1:22:01the Tennessee River. I mean you guys would know
- 1:22:06better because all I know is what I see here in like the
- 1:22:08Middle Tennessee area. But knowing that like Northern
- 1:22:12Alabama and and even as far as East Tennessee, West Tennessee,
- 1:22:18up to like Kentucky and Indiana and some of those like this
- 1:22:21region of the South, as much of the Bible Belt as it is like,
- 1:22:26man, we got some pagans out in here, man, we got some we.
- 1:22:29Got some We got some people doing some things, you know,
- 1:22:33real things. Not just online stuff, not just
- 1:22:36Facebook groups, like there's people doing grass roots things
- 1:22:41in this area, guys. Yeah, because one thing is you
- 1:22:44got so much scenery and stuff. I mean, you got well, the
- 1:22:47nature, yeah. Yeah, you got a lot of forests
- 1:22:49and mountains and you got lake streams.
- 1:22:52Like, I think Alabama's got probably the most lakes and
- 1:22:55streams out there next to Louisiana and Florida.
- 1:23:00Yeah, there's definitely a lot of that.
- 1:23:02And that's where we gravitate towards.
- 1:23:03You know, where can we be close to nature?
- 1:23:05Where can we feel close to nature, right.
- 1:23:07I mentioned before, we, we, my wife and I, we arrive in the
- 1:23:10middle, the heart of the city, Huntsville, where we arrive in
- 1:23:14the heart of the city and what do we gravitate towards?
- 1:23:16We look for the thing that speaks to us closely to the
- 1:23:21nature. Spirit, right.
- 1:23:23There's water, there's animals of nature, right.
- 1:23:25And even though it's like in a in a congested human, highly
- 1:23:29human populated area, it's still resonates with us, right?
- 1:23:32And so those those. It's also a shadow.
- 1:23:35It's also in the shadow of a Mesa, a mountain.
- 1:23:39They call it a mountain. They must say a mountain's
- 1:23:41considered a mountain, but it's a Mesa.
- 1:23:42If you look at it's flat on top, yeah, yeah.
- 1:23:46Like, I mean, it's that flat, flat, but has that kind of,
- 1:23:51like, surface area up top there. But yeah, looks like you froze
- 1:24:00there for a second. He's all over there.
- 1:24:02Let's look. Wait.
- 1:24:06Yeah, like that. Yeah, but Blake's frozen.
- 1:24:13We're about wrapping this thing up anyway.
- 1:24:15Here. Soon maybe it'll unfreeze for
- 1:24:17him. We'll give it a second.
- 1:24:20But yeah, the the as you can hear guys and as you can see
- 1:24:26right from what we're talking about, is a a heavily vibrant
- 1:24:35community that came and experienced the Hailong ritual.
- 1:24:42Many people having never known one another, Many people having
- 1:24:45never seen one another face to face in life before, You know,
- 1:24:53let me just move him off here. He can rejoin.
- 1:24:58But we we're alive. We're doing things, You know,
- 1:25:04we're we're being things. This isn't just talk.
- 1:25:09This isn't just we're not Larping, right?
- 1:25:12We don't wear these things. We don't dress a certain way.
- 1:25:15We don't put on a certain facade.
- 1:25:17We don't look a certain way just for the shits and gigs.
- 1:25:28It's life for a lot of us, you know.
- 1:25:31And when folks like Hailung come to our country and honor us with
- 1:25:37their presence and do things that honor the land in and
- 1:25:42around us, you know, a lot of this North American tour has
- 1:25:50with Hailong included indigenous Native American dancers and and
- 1:25:57and members of of the respective nations, you know, First Nation
- 1:26:02members of our indigenous North American continent.
- 1:26:09And and when they come here, Hailong, I mean when they come
- 1:26:13here and they and they give homage to the native indigenous
- 1:26:18people and invite them to that space that is such a such a
- 1:26:22powerful and, you know, such a profound thing.
- 1:26:29Hey, what's up, man? Welcome back.
- 1:26:31Hey, sorry. It's a lost connection or
- 1:26:33something. That's OK We're going to be
- 1:26:36wrapping it up here soon too anyway.
- 1:26:37But I I was just saying, you know, the fact that Highland
- 1:26:40comes to North America. Yeah.
- 1:26:42And and and blesses the land in their way but also includes the
- 1:26:47the native indigenous like First Nation peoples and a lot of
- 1:26:52their ceremonies like that is huge.
- 1:26:55You know and that's what really makes a howling experience such
- 1:26:59a life changing thing to me is that you know you're not just
- 1:27:02going to watch a band perform live music and rock out on stage
- 1:27:07cool like no man. Like you're you're you're going
- 1:27:11and you're experiencing something that that ties back to
- 1:27:14historical roots that are so old and that are so established and
- 1:27:20that are so genuine. You know that you can't help but
- 1:27:26if you come to it, like you mentioned before, you had a, you
- 1:27:28had a somebody next to you who was quote UN quote Christian,
- 1:27:31you know, out there jumping around, dancing and feeling that
- 1:27:34music, that's the that's that's the vibration of those roots
- 1:27:38speaking to that person, right. Doesn't matter what your
- 1:27:41religious label is. It what matters is that you're
- 1:27:44being spoke to from things that are just deeply rooted inside of
- 1:27:50all of us. Right, so you can call yourself
- 1:27:52what you want. Call yourself.
- 1:27:54Yeah, well, he was one of those kind of Christians also that was
- 1:27:57accepting of things too. Like.
- 1:28:00Like he wasn't like like. You know, like he would be
- 1:28:03outnumbered for this, You know what I mean?
- 1:28:06Like if he just keeps, like, yeah, I told him, I told him.
- 1:28:09Yeah, he was shocked. I told him about a good majority
- 1:28:12of the people here are probably Pagan.
- 1:28:15He's like, oh, really? It's like, yeah, like Alabama
- 1:28:18has a huge Pagan population. Instead of this Middle Tennessee
- 1:28:23and everywhere around around here, it's we're scattered.
- 1:28:27I mean, we're doing promise. People are doing things.
- 1:28:30And that's the thing about it is we're not just out here dressing
- 1:28:33up like I just you weren't on here a minute ago when I said,
- 1:28:35but we're not just out here dressing up.
- 1:28:37We're not just out here, you know, trying to look a certain
- 1:28:39way, trying to capture a certain aesthetic.
- 1:28:44This is life for the majority of people.
- 1:28:47This is our life. This is what we do when you
- 1:28:49spend. I dress up and connect, yeah,
- 1:28:53because I dress up and garb just to connect, fulfill the know how
- 1:28:57my ancestry smell. Wearing all that, all that that
- 1:29:02that that's a way of doing it right.
- 1:29:04It's, it's it is if we if we dress in period clothing, if we
- 1:29:07put on a garb, if we wear certain things that are period
- 1:29:11accurate, you know, we can enter into that sort of mindset of how
- 1:29:16life was back then and it connects to those ancestors,
- 1:29:21right. We're not, we're not recessing
- 1:29:22to the point of, you know, abandoning all modern
- 1:29:27advancements and and ways to further our, you know, people in
- 1:29:31general, right. We're not trying to be like
- 1:29:33well, let's just go back to the swords and Spears and and draw
- 1:29:35horse drawn carriages days. But we're we're encapsulating an
- 1:29:41essence of the past that feeds those roots, that gives us that
- 1:29:45energy, that gives us that power to nurture the present and then
- 1:29:50feed the future. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:53It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's kind of part of it, all
- 1:29:55right. Not that you have to be this
- 1:29:57way. Not you have to dress in a
- 1:29:58certain way to to feel it. But for a lot of us, this is
- 1:30:03what it's about. This is why we do what we do.
- 1:30:05This isn't just to be. This isn't just to gain likes or
- 1:30:09followers or whatever on social media.
- 1:30:12Not we're not these, you know, Peyton Parish types.
- 1:30:14We're not these, you know, just panderers of of culture.
- 1:30:18Try to. I hate the guy, you know.
- 1:30:22We're not. We're not that.
- 1:30:23It's like a goofball, yeah. Is that the wacky, WAVY,
- 1:30:27inflatable arm flailing tube? Man of the of the.
- 1:30:32Yeah, it's it's it's like I don't want to bash people on
- 1:30:38this. You know what?
- 1:30:39I. Mean.
- 1:30:39Oh yeah. Anytime.
- 1:30:40It's like you see that when people see that type of thing
- 1:30:44and then they see others that are dressing up, they kind of
- 1:30:50put the two and two together and be like, well, this is the same
- 1:30:52as that. No, no, no, no, not necessarily.
- 1:30:55Right. Yeah, there are people down
- 1:30:57here. There are people out here.
- 1:30:59And I don't, and I don't mean just in the southern United
- 1:31:01States. I mean wherever you're listening
- 1:31:02from there have got there. There are people that are
- 1:31:05genuine. Their pursuit to revitalize and
- 1:31:12breathe new life into these old ways.
- 1:31:15It's it's not a game. We're not out here cosplaying.
- 1:31:19We're not Larping, OK? We believe in some of these
- 1:31:24things, some more than others, and and and how we portray
- 1:31:29ourselves to the public is an important thing.
- 1:31:32You know what I mean? Like if if we're out here just,
- 1:31:36you know, being some, you know, God of War cosplay, Viking, you
- 1:31:42know, Assassin's Creed, Valhalla, you know, look all in
- 1:31:45me, like if that's all we're doing, then we're not.
- 1:31:48We're not. We're not doing any justice to
- 1:31:51the actual thing. Yeah, but you wouldn't be
- 1:31:54surprised though that how many people like when I was like to
- 1:31:58the concert Friday night, dress in my garb and stuff.
- 1:32:03People were asked me, like I said, they said that that was
- 1:32:06Jesus. But the other thing is the other
- 1:32:08people were wondering what the hell I was.
- 1:32:11Because I don't have chainmail on.
- 1:32:14I didn't have my axe on me, you know, I just have my belt, my
- 1:32:18bag and my horn, you know, all. And I wrapped around my tear at
- 1:32:23that point, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:32:27But I don't. I don't like the average typical
- 1:32:30Viking walking around either. But I didn't have the helmet on.
- 1:32:32I didn't have a sword. I didn't have a shield or a
- 1:32:34spear, yeah. No, I I mean, I've done, I've
- 1:32:38done some some local community work where I've dressed in my
- 1:32:42tunics and I. Have my boots, you know, a
- 1:32:45tunic, a belt, pants and boots, right.
- 1:32:48And people are like, yeah, I like your.
- 1:32:50I like your cut, man. I like your drip.
- 1:32:51They call it nowadays. They they have these terms and
- 1:32:54stuff. I like it And I'm like, thank
- 1:32:56you, right. Yeah.
- 1:32:58But I'm not you know, I'm, I'm going to do a thing, right.
- 1:33:00I'm I'm going to be and represent a subset of our
- 1:33:04community. That is like, I'm not saying you
- 1:33:09have to do this to to achieve what I'm achieving, but this is
- 1:33:14you know, you know it's. It's, well, the only time, the
- 1:33:17only time I ever you live it. The only time I ever add a
- 1:33:20Latin. Yeah, the only time I ever add
- 1:33:23my axe to my my kit when I'm when I'm wearing it.
- 1:33:27Is if I go into like a rim fair or something like that because I
- 1:33:30don't bring weapons into ritual spaces?
- 1:33:34Well, you can't. You can't.
- 1:33:37You also can't go to Walmart or or wherever and just like carry
- 1:33:40an axe around these. Days.
- 1:33:41I mean maybe Walmart, maybe Walmart cause I've seen some
- 1:33:45crazy things at Walmart, but. You can carry a camp at.
- 1:33:49I see people carry camp ATS in in all.
- 1:33:52Fairness, right? You can't walk around with a
- 1:33:54spear and a shield and and not not be looked at like what the
- 1:33:59hell, you know what I mean? Now it's different if you're
- 1:34:02walking around in a in a linen tunic with britches and boots,
- 1:34:06belt or and you know, whatever and that's, that's your that's
- 1:34:09your attire. Sure you you look, you look at a
- 1:34:11place, but you look. Yeah, less posing and and, you
- 1:34:15know, just less weird. Yeah, like like Friday I went in
- 1:34:20my ritual garb because I well, it got bumped up.
- 1:34:24I had a nail appointment, supposed to be at 3:00, but they
- 1:34:28moved after the two and I've been there in full in my full
- 1:34:33garb, you know, and that's OK. We lose each other again no, I
- 1:34:45think well you're you're you're a little bit glitchy but we're
- 1:34:48we're we're going to wrap it up for the, for the, for the
- 1:34:50listeners and for the I think we got, I think we got a lot of
- 1:34:55good content for for everybody about what both Blake and myself
- 1:34:59experienced for Hilung, right amplified.
- 1:35:03History. That's kind of their thing,
- 1:35:04right? When when they talk about when
- 1:35:06when you go on their socials and when you when you go to their
- 1:35:09websites, right? It's amplified history.
- 1:35:12These are, these are things that are are are touching back into
- 1:35:16ancient roots that we all generate from that we've all
- 1:35:19come from to some degree. Now, how do you feed those
- 1:35:24roots? Right.
- 1:35:26What do you do to feed those roots?
- 1:35:29We don't come from the same, well, let me back up.
- 1:35:33We kind of come from the same root system, but the various
- 1:35:36fringes and branches and things that come out from that root
- 1:35:38system are unique and different. So where do you find yourself on
- 1:35:45that system and how do you feed and what do you do to feed that
- 1:35:53taproot, you know what I mean? And I think that what what what
- 1:35:58what, you know, Blake and I talked about today on this
- 1:36:02podcast shares a bit with you all this audience about the
- 1:36:07things that we've experienced you know his pre ritual
- 1:36:11experience prior to the the Heilung ritual, you know, the
- 1:36:14travel, the headache the the, you know the meadery to just
- 1:36:19everything And then me with you know traveling to walking around
- 1:36:22picking up duck feathers with my wife and all that.
- 1:36:26Right. Like there's there's, there's
- 1:36:27various, there's there's nuance to it, but there's differences
- 1:36:31to it as well. And they were our own separate
- 1:36:33experiences. And if you are listening and
- 1:36:36watching to this now and you were at the Huntsville, AL
- 1:36:39Ritual or any of the US rituals, we'd be really keen on knowing
- 1:36:45what your experience was like, you know.

- 1:37:34We we we've talked now for a good bit.
- 1:37:36Blake and I can share with you about it, and we'd love to hear
- 1:37:40what your experience is as well. There's so much more to tell,
- 1:37:45but it's just hard to get in one video.
- 1:37:48It's dude. We could go on for literally
- 1:37:50hours on like a live stream or something about.
- 1:37:53Oh yeah, it's like you can, you can just.
- 1:37:55It's like so much about it, Yeah.
- 1:37:59Yeah. And for the sake of just people
- 1:38:01listening, you know, like, I mean like an hour podcast is is
- 1:38:04enough and we're going on an hour and 30 or more.
- 1:38:06So maybe we'll we'll we'll retouch on some things maybe
- 1:38:10over time, 'cause I know, you know, you and I, you know, we we
- 1:38:13have a connection over social media.
- 1:38:16So. So we can definitely, you know
- 1:38:18reconnect and and and do some more.
- 1:38:20But yeah, right now, man. Anything else you want to say to
- 1:38:25my audience before we and the recording here before we did
- 1:38:29everybody well? Yeah, just be sure.
- 1:38:33Again, be sure to check my links as well.
- 1:38:36Give me some get some pork. I am trying to weed out the
- 1:38:41merchandise for this channel or for for my own for my YouTube
- 1:38:46channel by this name and moving it over to the Music Project
- 1:38:52itself as its focus point. But.
- 1:38:57The scholars works. It's just it's me.
- 1:38:59It's not just a like a band for me it's more like a or music
- 1:39:04project. It's it's like a place where I
- 1:39:05could just share my ideas and teach people how to a little
- 1:39:11bit. I give some people insight on
- 1:39:13how to play the instrument that I play and share the with
- 1:39:16people. That's the reason why I wanted
- 1:39:19to, that's why I wanted to separate those two because.
- 1:39:25I don't want people to say oh this is the skull that works is
- 1:39:27also a a band or a music project.
- 1:39:30I want them to say that oh this is this is one thing, this is
- 1:39:36the music project is a whole different animal and so just
- 1:39:42check the links out. I'm going to try to see about
- 1:39:45probably maybe doing some online workshops and stuff or first one
- 1:39:50on ones eventually for anybody that wants to.
- 1:39:54Hit me up for that, I'll see what I can do because that way
- 1:39:58it's not going to be like full on lessons because I don't see
- 1:40:01myself qualified to teach. But I can help people correct
- 1:40:06some mistakes or see what their mistakes are and try to help
- 1:40:10with that. But to just check my just to
- 1:40:15check the links out, check the music out and bro some support
- 1:40:22my way. Please do everybody follow him.
- 1:40:26His link Tree link will be LinkedIn the description and
