- 0:00How do we articulate what we really believe?
- 0:03Do you ever find yourself struggling with, first of all, what do I think on
- 0:07the matter, whatever the issue is?
- 0:09How do I access those rooms in my mind and find what I really think about it?
- 0:15And then how do I get it to the point that it comes out of my mouth?
- 0:19How do we articulate our opinions in a way that is substantial and just rocks
- 0:28the room that makes people turn their head and want to look.
- 0:33I'm going to attempt to do that, but I'm going to attempt to explain what I think on this.
- 0:40And you're going to see me stumble and bumble through some things,
- 0:43but I want to show you that everybody has that.
- 0:47Everybody has those things that they struggle with in explaining what they believe.
- 0:53We're all in this same boat, and some people have it better than others,
- 0:56and some people are just blessed and gifted in a way that it comes more natural to them.
- 1:02My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution.
- 1:05We're going to take, this is going to be a little bit different than my normal shows.
- 1:10So I hope you buckle up. We got a lot to cover today, but it starts with this.
- 1:14How do we, first of all, how do we find what we really believe?
- 1:18How do we, because a lot of life is just us listening to others,
- 1:22us listening to people who we think are the authorities on the matter,
- 1:27as opposed to what do I really think?
- 1:30We go to people that we think have more experience, that they've spent the time
- 1:38more to think about it so that we don't have to think.
- 1:41And a lot of times it becomes a really surface level on the things that we,
- 1:46when given the opportunity to say it, it doesn't come out the way that we really want it to come out.
- 1:53And I find myself struggling with this all the time. Do you ever have that where
- 1:57you just, you're like, you think you, I have it every day because I'm doing this every day.
- 2:03I'm like, why did I say it that way? Why did my mouth not say the right word?
- 2:10Why, why am I constantly reaching for words as opposed to, because all of us
- 2:17in our brains, our brains are amazing things.
- 2:20We, they're like a library. that we only access probably about 10% of our brain.
- 2:27That's what I always hear, 10% of our brain.
- 2:29How do we access more of it? How do we open those rooms that seem locked up at times?
- 2:36And how come some people can, the rooms in their house are like lit up more than others?
- 2:42Because I find myself, I think people, it's bandwidth, what bandwidth you have
- 2:46in your brain that you are able to reach and find and what you really think on a matter.
- 2:51But it's also being able to pull those words from your head and to be able to
- 2:57put them in language because language is, it unlocks everything.
- 3:01If we can speak it, it opens our mind to greater realities out there.
- 3:06Things that we think are just basically the very surface of our world.
- 3:11There's so much more going on that if we aren't able to speak about it,
- 3:16And this goes into a lot of us receive a lot more input than output.
- 3:21And I would say to access those rooms in your mind, you have to do it over and over.
- 3:27You have to create more output in your own world, in your own space,
- 3:32whether that's just talking out loud to yourself and going about your day.
- 3:36I mean, people, you know, you get a lot of bad rap, you know,
- 3:40people saying, oh, he's just talking to himself. You know, he's always talking
- 3:43to himself. What a loser.
- 3:44What a loser. He's just talking to himself. Maybe not everybody's watching,
- 3:47but maybe just instead of watching the news or instead of watching whatever it is, a movie.
- 3:54And just absorbing it all in or even a podcast because I find myself all the
- 3:58time I'm listening to stuff and I think I'm getting smarter.
- 4:00I'm reading stuff and I think I'm getting smarter as opposed to really figuring
- 4:05out how much I really know on whatever it is I think I know and start talking about it.
- 4:11And I think whenever you start talking it out and you start living it out,
- 4:15you're going to find things that you didn't know.
- 4:19It's just, it's really, is it tough for you want to hear somebody speak whenever
- 4:23they can't just get to the point or when they can't make sense,
- 4:27their argument or what they're saying doesn't have structure.
- 4:30I struggle with that all the time. I struggle with that all the time.
- 4:34And I look at people and we're going to take a look at one person in particular.
- 4:38I put a couple of links in the description you can look at of something that
- 4:41really helped me in this.
- 4:43But also, I'm always talking about Alex O'Connor. He's a person that can really
- 4:48just articulate what he believes and his opinions and all that.
- 4:53And that's what it can resonate with people because he's able to communicate
- 4:56it so effectively. But like, why can he do that?
- 4:59And somebody else doesn't naturally come, doesn't have that.
- 5:02I think it's just this body that we have.
- 5:05And these cobwebs in our head, they're just blocking up the rooms.
- 5:10And it's like, it's not as clear.
- 5:13There are things out there that you can take that can open your mind.
- 5:17I wish there was a limitless pill, like Bradley Cooper, the movie,
- 5:22where he takes that and it's just, he can think and see clearly.
- 5:26I wish there was that. But there are things like that.
- 5:29There are similar medicine or just natural supplements you can take that can
- 5:36give that effect to your mind.
- 5:38Because we all have it in us. We all have that back in our mind.
- 5:42And we can find it if we start speaking it out, if we start talking it out and
- 5:47making it known what our opinions are.
- 5:49We're going to take a look at, I'm going to take this short clip from Alex O'Connor
- 5:53and him in the middle of a podcast that he had with Sam Harris and him just
- 5:58saying, I don't even know where these words are coming.
- 6:02I don't know how, I'm not even thinking about them. They're just naturally flowing out.
- 6:07There's just this, I open my eyes and there's just this image and I open my
- 6:11ears and there are just these words.
- 6:12And there's a sense in which when I'm speaking right now, I'm not calculating
- 6:16every word that's coming out of my mouth. I'm not thinking about every sentence.
- 6:20These words, where the hell are they coming from? They are just going.
- 6:24I didn't know I was about to say the word going. It just came out, right?
- 6:27And you have no idea how you said it. And when you fail to say it,
- 6:30if you forget it for a moment and you struggle to find a word or you say the
- 6:34wrong word, that too is mysterious.
- 6:37Your success is mysterious and your failure is mysterious. but it makes it so fascinating.
- 6:41Okay. So that is remarkable to me.
- 6:44Because I'm always, I'm always listening to people as I know everybody is that
- 6:47who you admire, who you think, who you, you aspire to be.
- 6:52You want, you want to glean something from them.
- 6:54But how do we in our real life get above, get down below the surface and find
- 7:00out what it is we truly believe.
- 7:01We, we need to think about issues and we need to talk it out because the more
- 7:05we talk it out and just speak what we think, you know, it might not,
- 7:08it might not resonate with everybody and your opinion might not immediately
- 7:11resonate with everyone because you might be able to not communicate it as effectively.
- 7:16As you see, I struggle with that all the time. But as anyone that is a practicing
- 7:19speaker, and we all are, no matter
- 7:23wherever you are, you are practicing becoming a better communicator.
- 7:28Because it doesn't matter how much knowledge or wisdom you have in your head,
- 7:32you're not going to be able to pass that wisdom on to others if you're not able
- 7:36to describe it and make it known what you really believe on whatever it is.
- 7:42And I mean, this goes with like with public speaking, people get have that issue.
- 7:47And I have that that struggle with that. You know, I would get nervous,
- 7:50you know, because immediately when when everything's on you and eyes are on
- 7:54you and people are looking at you,
- 7:56you can start feeling a little squeamish and you can't think as straight and
- 8:01you can't voice what you really mean on the matter.
- 8:05And you just struggle through it. I struggled through it, but I think we have
- 8:09to put ourselves in uncomfortable positions so that.
- 8:13I mean, daily put ourselves in uncomfortable positions and over and over,
- 8:18just make it as uncomfortable as possible so that it's not as uncomfortable
- 8:24as possible for the recipient, for everybody else.
- 8:27People that do this all the time, that are just out there and speaking.
- 8:33I just know that a lot of times we just, and I don't want this to be just projection
- 8:37because this might not be what you're thinking at all and how you see the world
- 8:42at all or how you see language and being able to communicate your opinions at all.
- 8:47You might not feel the same way, but I want to be, I want to unlock the mysteries
- 8:53of our mind because our mind is so deep and rich.
- 8:57There's so much there and it doesn't matter how strong and like just a wellspring
- 9:03of wisdom and life that we have in there, if we're not able to describe it,
- 9:09we're going to be unsatisfied.
- 9:11We're going to be, see me, I'm struggling for words. I'm struggling for words.
- 9:15Like what's my vocabulary? And I don't think it really, we have to say the exact,
- 9:19the perfect right thing at every moment.
- 9:21I think we just need to continue to talk about it.
- 9:25We need to continue to describe to others the world that we're in because we're all in our own world.
- 9:32We need to, because people that are great at things are able to make things
- 9:36simple, taking the complex and making it simple and understandable.
- 9:40And I want, I want to get that way. I want to, and I'm so stubborn about
- 9:47I'm going to somehow figure out a way to get that way.
- 9:51I don't know if you've ever found
- 9:52that in your life that you ever feel so stubborn that you refuse to lose.
- 9:57And even though it might look like you're not winning, you refuse to lose and
- 10:02you refuse to quit whatever it is that you're going through,
- 10:06whatever it is in your life that you're battling through.
- 10:09It's different for everyone. We all come to this world and we have our biases,
- 10:14our opinions, but I think a lot of us, we don't really have our opinions.
- 10:20We haven't hashed it out and formulated what it is.
- 10:24We just, it's easy to be almost lazy in a sense and just think that we know
- 10:32a lot more than we really do and think that we have a stronger opinion on something
- 10:38than we might really do at this time.
- 10:40And I think the more that you're able to think on these things and communicate
- 10:44them, the more that you might see others going through something and you're
- 10:48able to extend grace and say, and you're able to perceive what they are trying to get across.
- 10:55You know, I think, I mean, I might look to you like a little child at times
- 10:59because I'm like trying to get, trying to get a point across.
- 11:02And maybe there's method to the madness. Maybe there is a sense that I need
- 11:07to grow up. We need to grow up.
- 11:09And instead of just receiving, start giving, start producing something that
- 11:13others can benefit from.
- 11:14And I think it is, we have to find out what we believe on certain matters and
- 11:19not just be surface level.
- 11:21That's what I've found. If you are in the same boat, if you are in the same
- 11:24thought process that I'm at all, I would love to hear your opinion.
- 11:28Put it in the comments, what you think. If you are a person that ever just struggles
- 11:32with getting your point across, it just didn't come out the way I wanted.
- 11:37It didn't come out the way I wanted it.
- 11:39I get you. I totally get you. But I think it is over and over doing it,
- 11:45continuing to just press on.
- 11:48Battle through, do it when no one's looking so that when you have the attention
- 11:54of others, because like Gary Vee always says, attention is the most valuable asset.
- 12:00If you got someone's attention, don't waste it.
- 12:04And I try not to waste anyone's attention. I try not to waste anyone's time.
- 12:09And I know I'm not, not a microwave and I don't have like instant access,
- 12:13you know, words of wisdom, but I think it's the repeated trial and error over
- 12:17and over that will make me better at what I do.
- 12:21And I, I think the same thing can go for everyone out there,
- 12:24just doing it over and over and putting yourself in that uncomfortable position
- 12:30so that when you, when your time
- 12:31to shine happens and it might come unexpected. A lot of times it does.
- 12:35It just, It just happens in your face. You're not ready for it.
- 12:40I think we got to just struggle through the wilderness at times so that when
- 12:44we step into the light, we're going to be able to give those words of wisdom
- 12:47at the right time to someone that needs it.
- 12:49But this might be a perfect example of not being able to articulate what I want to articulate.
- 12:57And I think it's just because a lot of it's not just repeatedly over just thinking
- 13:01on it because no matter how much I think I know something, until I start talking
- 13:06it out, I start for everyone to see maybe how much I don't know.
- 13:10A wise person can look like a, a person can look wise if they keep their mouth shut.
- 13:16But I don't think you're going to, you might feel wise by keeping your mouth
- 13:20shut, but you're not going to be a person that's going to change the world by
- 13:23keeping your mouth shut.
- 13:24You're going to be a person that just floats through life and maybe it doesn't
- 13:28get what you really want out of it.
- 13:31And we only have this one life to live. So I want to get as much out of as possible.
- 13:35And I bet you do as well. All right.
- 13:39Well, we'll leave it at that. Let me know what you think.
- 13:43I'm going to keep going. I'm too stubborn to stop. And I hope you keep going
- 13:47as well. And I hope you keep evolving to that best version of you.
